didn't take long it Hey, theprevailing winds are out here, all right.

(01:04):
So my young co host here,Brian and Tripley. Not easy but
Tripley. I tell him all thetime about old Yeah, Triple I tell
him all the time about you know, uh, old school morning DJs.
You do a morning show. Ido a morning show and disc jockeys and
jocks when we play music, AndI say, you guys don't know anything
about West Coast disjo. Remember ourguy Wolfman Jack? You know all about

(01:26):
that, right, JB? WolfMan Jack? About what's my guy?
You know? Yeah? And youknow easy he's from continent. And I
was thinking the other day and whenyou were coming on, I say,
JB, give me this answer forthese young bucks right here because they didn't
know it. And I'm thinking DJ'sin the morning, jocks in the morning

(01:46):
that come on. And what's thelittle white dude's name that looks like a
slot receiver? Randy Rick? Icouldn't remember who he was at did the
morning? Is a legend? Well? Who is it due you have about
rick? Uh? Ricky? Uh? What's his name? It's Randy Ricky
de thes not Okay, Hey,I think he was on to it.

(02:10):
I think he was on I've beenon it. That's why I come on,
man, Yeah, that's why Iknew. I just I just I
was like, he's got to knowRick D's but he's not going to say,
is that rick Dy's not there. You go every time we're on.
Ricky started the BOMBA. They don'tknow, they don't know. Great to
have you on, brother, Hey, uh your strong opinion on some things

(02:34):
before we get the Super Bowl. When I say c J Stroud, what
comes to mind? He hit somehome runs last night and hoston I heard
I'm batting practice. Look, man, he grew up. He grew up
up the street. A good friendof mine coaching, and I've been around
him since he was a young kid. You know, he put up I
want to say, he put upforty points in basketball and like three of

(02:57):
the NBA All starts this year theAll Star Game, he put up forty
on him in high school. Hecould play baseball, football, basketball.
CJ is just a guy that hasthat hit factor and he can do it
all. Short that's guinea and tallman. He can play it all.
He can hoop, he can playbasketball, baseball, football, And you
saw la year as a rookie, and that my guy. I think Bell

(03:19):
goes down who possibly those two probablywould have been fighting for Rookie of the
Year. Of course c J wouldhave got it, but he goes down
and TJ still doesn't bat an eyegoes takes it to the playoffs. I
thought played pretty well against number onedefensive football with the Ravens. Came up
a little short. But he justhas the it factor. Man, That's
really what it is. He hasit. I just hope you know John

(03:40):
as I know. Sophomore slumps inthe NFL are the are the biggest tail
tale sign for quarterbacks and their andtheir longevity and how successful they are.
All right, coach this year willbe Tael Telp Yeah, Jabi, So
how do you prevent We do talkabout sophomore slumps in all sports. How
do you prevent being a sophomore slump? Guy? I think he has to

(04:03):
do something that a lot of peopledon't do anymore, and I don't think
the coaches do it well at allwith the players. But I think he
needs to go in and self scout. His self scout. So he needs
to go in and self scout withall the defensive coordinators in the NFL are
going to be self scouting on him. So I think he needs to understand
that. Okay, I need toknow that these are the adjustments they're going

(04:24):
to make on me because they gota year in the books on me.
Now I have a resume now ofone year. Now, they're going to
start doing different things to me.So if they do this, what do
I do? And I don't believecoach quarterbacks do that anymore. I don't
believe they do what you and Idid back in the day. Okay,
I'm ready for this side of justin. If they do this, there's no
way they can bring this pressure fromthe boundary and not drop the defensive end

(04:46):
to replace them. So he knowsthat next year, so when the guy
comes, he don't throw a pickto a defensive end. Little things like
that. Man, I think hecan excel and be a little different than
most if he can do that. And you guys self, scout your self.
Scout coach Jason Brown at on Twitterat the Real Coach JB. He's

(05:08):
a star from Netflix's Last Chance Youalso does the Coach JB Show. You
can see it all over find iton YouTube as well. Does it.
He's taking a little of a vacationthis week, but I'll be back at
it. It's one of the morepopular shows around and get great opinion,
great guests. All right, JBwith CJ. Stroud and you mentioned self
scouting, and I always tell quarterbacksand you and I've discussed this, go

(05:29):
talk to the defensive coach on yourstaff, the staff, the coordinator,
and ask how he'd defend you, which goes back to the self scouting.
What you can do better understand infronts and coverages. So knowing what you
and I know watching him as arookie, and as assuming that Demico and
this team is going to continue tobuild and put players around him five years
from now, just from your coachingknowledge, what are we when I'm interviewing

(05:51):
you and we're talking, what arewe going to be saying about CJ.
Stroud Man top five quarterback in theNFL. I truly believe that, no
doubt about it. I said beforethe season started, I said he's already
head and shoulders above skill set wise, as far as a passer, okay,

(06:14):
just a passer, not just notan overall quarterback yet, but as
a passer, I said, he'salready heading tolders above Lamar Jackson, Jalen
Hurts. I believe he's above alot of those guys Purty, a lot
of the youngsters in the league thatstarted off before him, and I believe
he's catching up to Trevor Lawrence already. He reminds me of a Trevor Lawrence.

(06:36):
Similar skill set, similar skill height, weight, all that stuff,
arm strength, arm talent, sametype of delivery, a little bit of
a wind up, long, longer, longer delivery. I think he's catching
up to those guys. I thinkhe's easily going to be a top five
quarterback here and in the next twoor three years, but the sophomore season

(06:58):
is the one that counts. Ithink, in my opinion. Do you
think he's a guy that you knowhow certainly we've talked about like an Aaron
Rodgers or a Pat Mahomes, whichwe're gonna get to in the next segment,
because I know you have strong opinionson this the talk or a Burrow
or a Tom Brady who elevates everybodyin the building. And you don't need

(07:18):
superstars, now Gronk was, butI'm talking about every year, you don't
need superstars. They seem to makeguys better players, and so is Stroud
that guy. Do you have togive him great players to win a Super
Bowl? Or can it be goodplayers and he's good enough to make them
great? And if they can crownhim a super Bowl champion in this team
at some point. Yeah, that'sa good point. No, you saw

(07:42):
what he did. I mean,Nico is a good wide receiver. I
believe Collins Schultz is a good tightend. But I don't know if those
guys are one. On any otherroster that have you know, two or
three good receivers, He's not aone. They're not. Nico's not a
one in Cincinnati. You know,he's not a one in LA. He's
probably not a one with the Chargers. He's probably not even a one in

(08:03):
Denver. So you think about it, you go around the league's probably is
he better than Pittman in Indianapolis?I don't know, but like he's not
a standout one tank Dell was becominga guy that was a matchup nightmare because
now he can play in the slotin the outside. But really, if
you look at the Texans roster, you're like, they're not the Dallas Cowboy.
You don't, they don't have CeedeeLamb. You're not looking at him

(08:24):
like a freak of nature outside.So it's a good point. I think
he can make you better and makethat team thrive. He spreads the ball,
around. You don't really know wherehe's going. He seems to have
an understanding on adjustments, on defensiverotations and coverage, and so I think
he did a hell of a jobwith that. So to your point,
I think he can win with withwith with good protection, mix it with

(08:48):
a good run game, a goodtight end which everybody has as as a
safety net and uh, and givehim a couple of explosive guys in the
in the slot tank Dell they have, he'll be back and Niho days.
I think that that's more than enoughfor him to win. Well, put
JB. Hold on, man,we're gonna we're gonna take a little quick
break. Come on back, andwe're gonna discuss who's more important to the

(09:11):
Chiefs continued success and who's more responsiblefor it, Patrick Mahomes or Andy Reid.
Sports Talk seven ninety continues. It'sSports Talk seven ninety, Sean Salas,
we show Ray hang on, We'llget through it. We will get
to you out there in Montana.JB. Brown continues with us next here
on Sports Talk seven ninety, TheShawn Salisbury Show continues. I need to

(09:35):
know no now, you know, one of the best football minds I know
he does his show, the JBThe Coach JB Show. You can catch
that on YouTube and wherever else setthing airs, which is all over the
place, and he's the star.Last chance you joins us? Now,

(09:56):
insight, you heard a lot aboutC. J. Stroud and the Texans.
Let's switch over to this Super Bowl. Let's start with Mahomes and Andy
Reid. I asked the question who'smore important to the franchise and I'll say
it's always the quarterback in all thesesituations, even though Andy Reid maybe if
he ain't first, he maybe Mountrushmore of all time. Right now he's
charging that ladder. Who is moreimportant to the franchise and the chief success

(10:20):
and in particular last Sunday Man.All right, listen, I got the
Queendom fan base all over me.Right. You guys call him the Kingdom.
I call him the Queendom. Obviouslyhad a cup of tea with the
Chiefs organization, love them dearly, loved the fans. I got a lot
of phone calls the other day withthe tragedy that happened there in town up
during the parade, which is thisridiculous. So I got a lot of

(10:45):
friends there still Listen, the realfans, No, not the fair weather
fans, The real fans, theones that were not asking for Andy Reid
to be fired when they got blownout by Tampa just a few years ago.
Those real fans that everyone forget. It's about understand what I say when
I say that I think Andy Reidhas devised a system that is I call

(11:09):
it. It's a gimmicky system fora quarterback to get away with certain things
to allow for success. He doesn't. We broke him down. Sound You
and I have broke this guy downmany many times. Listen. We know
he's a freaking nature arm talent. We know he can spend it with any
anybody. He can throw any hecan make any throw he makes. Ad
Lid plays with his feet. Butwhat he doesn't do well is hit the

(11:33):
top of his drop and make athrow on time, where a lot of
greats that we grew up watching did. And that is where I cannot put
him in the mount rushmore. Already, we anoint guys too quickly, so
and I just got to be honest, We annoint guys too quickly, and
for people to already say he's thegoat or even even second, he just
tied Troikman with three super Bowls, and people want to talk about how fast

(11:58):
it success is. Well, behonest here, Traikman won three super Bowls
in his first five or six yearsin the league. Two No one wants
to talk about that. He didn'tlose any games, and he threw five
touchdowns to one interception. Patrick Mahomesis almost is almost even steven when it
comes to touchdowns and picks. Andthis was his first three hundred yard super

(12:20):
Bowl and it took overtime to getit. He hasn't been stellar in super
Bowls, which are the biggest gameson planet Earth. He hasn't been great.
He's probably won. So my pointis this, can Patrick Mahomes be
a great winner but not yet agreat SUPERB quarterback? That's where I'm at
with it. That's where I'm Petertottering. And if I asked you,

(12:43):
Sean flipped the question to you,if you rank these three guys, where
do you rank them? Andy ReidSpagnola Mahomes go Mahomes reads Spagnola, Oh,
get out of here. You knowthat reads first Mahomes. Well,
you're going by the unfair part toMahomes on that and I told you,

(13:05):
I'm going to challenge you on this. Is Spags and Andy been doing it
longer. If you're talking about valueto a team, all right, let's
switch it and you and where I'mgoing to agree with you on this.
If Burrow was a Kansas City chiefwould they would would he be three super
Bowls in? Yeah? Right thereyou go. Okay, exactly, so

(13:28):
I in order of importance or who'swho's been the best, it goes read
Spagnola, Mahomes because of the longevity. But without Patrick Mahomes on the Kansas
City Chiefs, Spagnola ain't got aring under the current without without Andy,
Without Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid stillsearching for his first Super Bowl. Now,

(13:50):
I've told people on this show, and you know, I've known Andy
for forty years and you've known hima long time too. The marriage with
him and Mahomes. He's the perfectguy for Mahome because you are right at
the top of it. If youwant to study mechanics, don't study Mahomes.
If you want to study timing,on one two, three foot in
the ground, throw the slant routeunder center or catch and throw in the

(14:11):
gun doing Mahomes Now if you wantto talk about off schedule, all the
spectacular through the roof. So let'stransfer this now, Patrick Patrick Mahomes with
Nick Sirianni, Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia. Are they better? They got to
be right, you can You cannottell me who's better? Who's better in
Cincinnati? Is Mahomes better in Cincinnatior Burrow better in Cincinnati under the current

(14:35):
set? I like Burrow. Ilike Burrow there it fits the system better
with the lightouts and stuff. See, Mahomes got an ad lib. Ton
Mahomes has to add live in anoffense. You know, think about it.
He leads the league over the lastthree years and touchdowns under five yards
and you see what they do.They do a lot of shovel path now,
smoke screens, now routes. Theydo a lot of things to get
the ball out of his hand forpeople listening. And now route means it's

(14:58):
it's quick sideway, he's football horizontalboom ball comes out right now and get
Kelsey on a bubble screen in spaceor one of those guys. Now means
we're getting it out right now exactly. And he leads the league. He
leads the league in the last threeyears. For he also leads the league
in yackyards. His white out ledthe league in the last three years,
even when Tyreek Hill, of course, in yakyards meaning the ball was thrown

(15:22):
at or behind the line of scrimmage, more than any other quarterback in the
NFL. This is things I study. You know, he leaves the league
in that he's not like he's throwingtwenty five yard dig routes on a break
versus one high and the second window. This isn't what he is. Now.
You can say he's great, adLiver, fine, but when we
talk about the Grapes of all time, I'm just I have a hard time

(15:43):
putting him in there. Now.I don't have any ill will towards the
kid. I think he's been agreat kid. I love that he went
out there with a hobbled ankle lastyear to come back and beat Jacksonville.
But people forget that Chad Hitting wentin there and went down and scored a
ninety nine yard drive, or thatgame is over. Jacksonville wins the game.
So it's not an offense that we'resitting there asking, oh man,

(16:03):
we have to have mahomes. They'veshown you what they used to do with
Alex Smith with a much less talentedrich roster, and Andy Reid did magic
tricks there. They did not haveSagnola and they did not have this defense.
This defense is a top three defensein the NFL. Stagnola is the
biggest, big game, best biggame defensive coordinator in the history of football.

(16:27):
Oh said, that's he's the mostIt's phenomenal how he is under pressure.
And Sean, I'm gonna be honest. You just mentioned you know Mahomes
winning well with Spagnola. Listens,Bagnola won two times against Tom Brady also
in New York with Eli Mannings. So this guy knows how to win.
Was whoever the quarterback is. That'swhy I would put Mahomes third. Because

(16:49):
of the plug and play style ofoffense that Andy Reid has and uses.
You can put a guy in there, not not is they gonna put Chad
Inny in there to win the SuperBowl. No, I'm not saying that.
We know how great and what awinner Mahomes is, all right,
So winning is one thing. Beinga great quarterback is another. Because when
we talk about all this stuff, you know people that have won it well

(17:11):
look to no offense to Trent Dilford, but he'd also won a super Bowl
on a great team, so didFoles. So did you know what's the
man's name in Cleveland this year thatcame in and did a hell of a
job? Black Placco. So arewe talking about their great quarterbacks or are
they just the one plug and playwinner on a team that had a great

(17:32):
defense. And by the way, don't forget now, this isn't knocking,
but this is just the truth whichpeople don't want to understand and listen to.
The AFC West has been the worstdivision in football for Mahomes his whole
career, just like Tom Brady whenhe was in the afcast for twenty years.
They were the worst division in football. Now, is that a knock
on them? No? They stillgot to win the games in front of
them, and that's what Mahomes isdoing. So there's no knock on them.

(17:56):
But I just want to be clear. We're talking about the goat conversation
we're talking about right now, andof course we'll put Mahomes at one go
ahead. He's won three, Burrowhasn't won one, Josh Allen hasn't won
one, Herbert hasn't won a damnplayoff game yet, So all these freaks
that are out there, but theyhaven't won anything. Mahomes is on the
pedical on his own, but inthe terms of all time, shoans,

(18:18):
No, I can't put him inthere. Okays not yet. He's got
to do a lot more for me. Ken the two minutes I have left
with you, a couple of things. One is are you saying or if
you were and somebody asked you andyou had, you have to give me
an answer. Is he overrated oris he underrated? Patrick Mahomes? Uh,

(18:40):
you know my answer. I thinkhe's overrated all day long? Three
Super Bowl? Now, what what'sthe response when somebody comes to you and
says you're just an old head dude, you don't understand the new game.
You Yeah, that's all I get. That's all I deal with anybody.
You. Here's the thing, Tom, You know what it is Everyone that
says that never saw Troykman though theynever saw Dan Marino throw a football,

(19:02):
they never saw John Elway hurtle aguy and throw a ball sixty five yards
on the line, and they allthink this is the this Josh Allen Mahomes,
that Herbert are the best three quarterbacksthey've ever seen. And I'll leave
you at this. I've come tofind out why why that is. It's
gambling. It is fantasy football fanboyswho go out there and they pick Magic

(19:23):
Mahomes on their on their on theirdraft kings or fan duel or or or
whatever. They go out there andpick him, and Mahomes will get him
forty five Fantasy points. And thenthis novice casual nobody thinks that Mahomes now
is the greatest thing since slice breadbecause he got them forty Fantasy points and

(19:44):
one them five grand. But theydon't watch film like you and I.
They don't sit there and go,oh, shoot this guy through sixteen bubble
screens and Tyreek Hill took six ofthem eighty yards. People don't realize and
break down the film. They justsee what they do on fantasy for them
and their fans. And that's whatI'm finding out to be true more or
less than anything else. And it'ssad right now. It's really sad because

(20:07):
the state of affairs we're in rightnow. People don't don't know. They
never saw those guys play. Wesaw Dan Marino and those skills challenges hit
the deep target on the bulls eyeevery time. Did you see the bulls
eye at the flag football it nowthat we call the Pro Bowl. Did
you see that Dan Alowski hit moretargets in a suit? Yep? Quarterback

(20:30):
plays it at all time. LowSeawan, You know I'm gonna stand on
that hill as long as I keepwatching film and it shows me that that's
the truth. It is bad highschool football, college football. The coaching
is bad. We're not demanding asmuch as from the players. We allow
it instead of coaching, and wedo too much no huddle, too much
not gun, and too many signals. Rather than just sit it in our

(20:51):
ear and replay the pall, wetake the mental decision making and wonder why
they're behind out of the quarterback's hands. We just leave it to the coach
all the time instead of let aguy go up and you run the show.
We don't do enough of that andteach it all right. Let me
let me let me the last onefor break. I'm your general manager and
you're my head coach, and Icome to you, or you could be
the GMS if you want. Butyour coach, your ex is and OS

(21:12):
guy. So I've come to youand I say we're building a franchise of
all the current NFL players, giveme one, two, and three in
order of quarterbacks on our wish list, right, so current NFL playership?

(21:33):
Yeah, because of his durability andhe's won three. Mahomes Burrow scares me
because he's injury prone. I thinkhe's the best quarterback in the NFL quarterback,
but he scares me. So Iwould take Mahomes one right now.
With the hiring of Harball. Youasked me right now. So Harball is
in place where he is. Ibelieve Herbert is going to be up there.
I think Herbert and the Chargers makehuge strides. I would take Herbert

(21:56):
as far as upside goes, andthen I'm going to take I'm going to
take. I'm gonna take CJ.Stroud. So you're going because if Burrow
was healthy, you'd put him first, wouldn't you always if you knew he
was durable? Yeah, he justscares me. I think he's he's aising
before our very eyes without winning theSuper Bowl yet. So he got Stroud
at three. Yeah, good wayto end this. You and I will

(22:19):
break down the draft as it getscloser, because I know you got strong
feelings on Kayleb Williams in this quarterbackclass, and I'll be honest with you,
I'm concerned about his ability to commandthe building with other players. And
we were going to get to thatand uh, make make it, make
you a regular guest. Brother, you're the best man. And uh,
hey, we're breaking down the Chiefsnext week. I got it. I
just got it in the film roomhere. So we're gonna be breaking that

(22:41):
down. So announce that to yourfans. We're going to be breaking down
this past super Bowl and and uhand we're going to do down in distance
for both teams Niners and party andhow overrated and overhyped Kyle Shanahan is and
how he's yet to win anything. But that's a whole nother conversation. And
we're going to break that down andthey'll be able to get that on Patheon
too, Right, buddy, we'llgo in there and do it. They

(23:03):
go through the entire game and givethem something they're not going to see anywhere
else. Look forward to it.Brother, You and me appreciate you,
always appreciate. I get to cutyou out on that too. I get
to cut you out there too. That's okay, good, cuss me out
all you want, go ahead.Uh, hey, coach jb Uh,
can you break down these for ustoo? Or now yeah, yeah,
one hangs a little lower than theother one. It turned right in the
win, Papelling wins. Yeah theyhit they hit these right on the spot.

(23:26):
And then uh and then Sean Mayhit a home run and the Papelling
wins out. Four fifty yeah, center, four fifty turn on one.
And by the way, let melet me let me just say this to
you after you make me a sandwich. I'm from the edge. By the
way, before you say that timePat said these because you didn't show up
and uh and we were in Vegasand uh and Pat played pretty well and

(23:48):
uh he'd yeah, Pat, youtell tell Pat Praz with all that money
he makes, then my home runsnow four seventy five to some to send
his bitch ass private playing for me, and I'll be or my invite must
have got lost in the mail.Okay, all right, hey, I'll
be there Monday for my birthday andscottsdlle you won't be there because you know,
yeah, yeah, you know whyI won't be there because I actually

(24:11):
work for a living now get yourass off my radio show punk And by
the way, you're you're Compton.I'm lb C. That's all I need
to say. Hey, we nevergot to see the LBC because he's catching
the LBC. Couldn't make it throughto the CPT. I love you,
brother, great stuff and i'll textyou a little later on. All right,

(24:34):
