Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hot, Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury to usc truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima,
Go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Monday edition of The Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Here on Sports Talk seven ninety Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lalima,
Connor McGovern filling in for Triple E. Astros take two
out of three from the Diamondbacks. They're off today. Texans
beat the Colts, University of Texas takes down Michigan. Sean Connor,
good morning, what a weekend man, great weather. Texans look
(00:49):
pretty damn good. Joe Mixon, you said yesterday in our
group text, you think he makes a difference.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I told you when they signed him that this would
be as important a signing, or his big as signing
as anybody had in the entire offseason as a player.
I believed it then, believe it now, and yesterday did
nothing not to validate it. Caught the ball of the backfield,
protects the passer, durable runs in between runs outside. You
saw in third and six they handed it to him.
(01:15):
I mean they are and he's a good four minute
drill guy. Where can wear you out? The end to
kill the clock. It'll be one of the five best
gets in the entire off season on a football field.
If he's healthy the whole year, he will make everything
he's And as I said, Stroud wouldn't have to throw
forty times to get the numbers that looked like a
full and complete offense. Nico Collins, big game, Stefan Diggs.
(01:39):
I'll tell you what though, penalties at some point in
time on the offense on an illegal movement. You've got
to stop this. You have to. I love Laramie Tunssel.
If there's one thing that drives me nuts is his inability.
I know it's a bitch to block those guys on
the edge. You just can't do it twice a game.
You just can't.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Death taxes and false starts just enough.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
But if there's if that, if that's what we're focused on,
then we're gonna be okay because Tonso is the hell
of a player. Just you gotta hold your water a
little more. You just do. But they were efficient special teams.
I mean, you put yourself in a little by and
that's gonna I mean, they got to do what they
always do special teams. Well, I wasn't that the first
block punt that he's had did they was there? There
(02:23):
was a block punt? Right, Am I losing my mind?
Was out the game? No, not tech, I'm thinking of
another game in never mind, I'm thinking of the earlier game.
There was regardless, Yeah there was, Yeah, Okay, there you go.
So I was I'm losing my mind. I think got
I mean it was block punting back in their end. Actually,
so I was like, dang that I did. I was
I dreaming this. But regardless of that complete game, you
(02:44):
can see what Joe Mixon is going to bring to
the table. Uh, they're gonna get after it up front.
They man, Anthony Richardson did a hell of a job
of He missed some of you. If he hits two
home run balls behind him, I'll tell you what bothered
me defensively yesterday. They gave U to much stuff down
the field, even when the play wasn't complete it should
have been. There were two touchdowns. All he had to
(03:06):
do was they were ten round yards out in front
of All he has to do is drop it in
there as touchdown, meaning Richardson and the throw he made
off bounce is as good as throw as you'll ever
see dropping it into a bucket for the touchdown phenomenal.
So you can see that that young fella is going
to keep them in games. And if he was a
little more accurate on a few of those, it may
have been a different result. So they've got to limit
(03:27):
and this defense secondary is good. They've got to limit
those huge plays in the back end. And whether that's
front related because you didn't get to the quarterback not
bringing him down, or just you were late getting out
of your tree, you out of your backpedal, whatever it is,
but there was big plays to happen, and they made
enough big plays to win. It did the Colts, but
they hung in there and did what they did. And
(03:48):
fair Baron's about as good a weapon as there as
in the league. If it's fifty yards longer, he's as
automatic from fifty as some are from thirty. So I
thought it was a complete performance. And like I said,
adding mixing to this mix, no pun intended is going
to be a whole different approach. You who they played
(04:08):
next week, the Bears? The Bears, how are you going
to prepare for this team? When you how are you
going to put a game plan in that? Says All's
you gotta do is prevent the pass and get the CJ. Stroud,
which is not true now because mix it will kill you.
He had as good aday as anybody in football yesterday
at any position. I mean, Cooper Cup wasn't half bad
(04:28):
last night, caught like eighty balls. But it's just mixing's
impact on this team. Okay, I'll tell you yesterday, last
year's run game, yesterday's game, Colts win. Yeah so, but
first game, complete, balanced, made the necessary plays, get you
(04:49):
on third down, moving chains. Stroud continues to make accurate
throws down the field. I'm just telling you that this
this team's real, man. And you look at the AFC.
The Ravens are beatable since Joe Burrows listen, you know
Joe Burrows like Aaron Judge and Alex Bragman about the
first three weeks of the season. Month is he's they're not.
I mean, he was fine, but they just don't win.
(05:11):
He's not very good. Their team's not. By about week three,
they'll kick in and all of a sudden they'll roll
about eight straight. That's who they are. Russ Wilson probably
should stay on the bench. Everybody else was doing a
pre game show yesterday, eybody's worried about well, Russ Wilson's cap.
I said, this may not be the worst thing that happened,
because right now Fields gives you a better chance to win,
even though he's not a great thrower of the football.
So you go around the league. The AFC Buffalo hung
(05:34):
in there, but Arizona beat them. Kansas City looks like
they're a Final four team again. But after weekend one,
when you talk about the versatility of the Texans, they
don't have to they don't have to be anybody's caddy.
They're pretty damn good.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Buffalo came back to beat the Cardinals, by the way
at the end, twenty four to thirty eight.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Yeah, or I'm sorry, thirty four twenty eighth at the
very end. Yeah. Yeah. Did I say they lost? Yes,
I've watched the game. They got him the win because
then they go to overtime, isn't that right?
Speaker 5 (06:04):
You sure?
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah, I'm watching the game, but I had it on
all four TVs. Let's see, Rams game went to overtime
last night.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Josh Allen had to come back and with four touchdowns
to get that get team.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
There goes because they were down seventeen to night and
it was seventeen to three, and then they rolled off
two and got a tie, so it was ah. But
that being said, Buffalo can be had if I if
Josh Allen doesn't play great football, they're not gonna win
many games if he doesn't. And he's hurt too, so
if he's out there done And you know, Miami, we're
concerned about the physicality. We know they can throw it
(06:34):
and score team speed. Tyreek Hill thing, obviously you still played.
But around the AFC, the Texans after week one, you
can't tell me they're not as balanced as any team
in the league. And their weapons all got involved, mixing involved.
Nic o'conins looks like he's going to be a star.
Stefan Diggs a couple of touchdown catches this this team's offseason.
(06:57):
It's going to be a hell of a watch by them.
And that don't think they played their best football yesterday.
The third down throw from c. J. Stroud to Nico Collins,
the ability for c. J.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Stroud to put the ball right there or only his
receiver can catch it, and the fact that Nico Collins
makes that gets his knee and shinned down list I mean,
my god, it.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Wasn't just I mean I saw three Richardson's throw, uh,
the third down throw that you needed for a first
down by Stroud, and then last night Stafford's throw looking
one way after comes side and when he gets hit
right in the mouth by three dudes on the was
was as good as you'll see. Stroud's throw, the location
of the football to his off side backside, and to
(07:40):
throw it at a time when it was to his
bad it was to his left right. Was that the
one to his left you're talking about the third down
catch Nico cons Did he throw it that the guy
undercut it and missed it? Was the way right right is?
It was stra Stafford's was to his left left is
and the one to the left over the middle was
the deep bomb for the touchdown that that Richardson threw.
(08:01):
The throw by Stroud to fit it in when a
guy undercut it, if he misses by a foot, it's
a touchdown. The other way, I mean, if he doesn't
leave his feet, if he misses inside, which a lot
of guys do is and be able to finish and catch,
that's just clutch stuff. Man. He put it in a
position where he couldn't have walked out and handed it
(08:21):
to him any better. Texans are the balance of this
football team. And after week one, you cannot tell me
that they shouldn't think that this is a late January team. Now, yeah,
it's one game, not to overreact, but that's how you
should feel if we're judging this league by one game.
Pretty damn good.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah, you also had, excuse me, you also had Tank
Dell getting in the mix the play calling of Bobby
Sloyk where you had Tank Dell coming around on some
jetsweeps and.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Things like that, getting him involved.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Dalton Schols didn't really have a big game, but I
think what the broadcast team did a really good job
of is highlighting things that players are doing when they're
not necessarily involved in the play.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Give me the football.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
I think Nego Collins at one point there was a
good seal block that he had that allowed for Joe
Mixon to continue. And then just the offensive line to
control all game long was just really really impressive. I
mean these outside of the couple of penalties Lamry tunsilll
early in the game, like, the offensive line dominated, just
absolutely mauled Indianapolis, and.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
They dominated in one position. They haven't dominated for a
long time. In the run game, moving piles. Mixon at
one point had six or seven or eight runs over
six yards. Yeah, and back to that Buffalo game, it's right,
when they were leading late, I was, I just got
disinterested and Josh Allen pulled it out of his rear end.
He really did. And then the way you know, when
(09:48):
you go through the way, the Bears came back to
beat the Titans, a careless mistake by will Levis laight
to his left on don't don't throw that. I mean,
look around the division, Jacksonville, Listen. I don't know when
I'm going to see Jacksonville to the point where they
dominate week in and week out. You know what I'm saying.
When is Trevor Lawrence going to elevate? Well? Did you
(10:10):
see it? I mean his numbers again yesterday and watching
they lose to Miami, but he was It's I don't
want to say he's a pedestrian player, but I'm still
waiting for him. If they put it this way, if
this is what you got the rest of your career
from Trevor Lawrence, if this is what you got twelve
to twenty, I mean, who he is now good and
up and down. As the first pick of the draft.
(10:30):
You know what you're going to say that he underachieved.
Oh yeah, I think people are as much as I
love him as we sit right now, if you had
to redraft him judging from what you see, I'm just
talking about the results, super Bowl, postseason, his inconsistency, yet
his ability is through the roof. Whoever you want to blame,
I'm just looking at the numbers and there and there
there there there January and regular season. Would you say
(10:55):
you tack him again as the first pick, You'd say,
I got to consider somebody else. I would consider somebody else,
So he does have to. And look at the impact
the guy hears making already. I mean, it's just it's
gonna be it's gonna be a fun watch. But this
division is loaded with talent, but careless mistakes will get
you hurt. You saw it in the Tennessee game and
(11:15):
you and you can't miss throws like Richardson made, You
make the clutch throw like Stroud made on the third
down play, and many more, and you know with your
feet all the things they do. And then you look
at you know the Lawrent situation. I don't know if
I don't think right now, if you said Trevor Watris
a Super Bowl quarterback, that's it right now, I'd be no.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
No, I think there's a clear and again I know
it's just Week one, there's a clear separation in the
top five or six quarterbacks in the league and then
everybody else. Yeah, just look at some of these performances.
Jalen Hurts played pretty well on Friday night in Brazil.
Two hundred and seventy eight yards, two touchdown, two interceptions.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah, great versatility.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Justin Fields did what he had to do one hundred
and fifty six yards. But I mean just kind of
a guy Josh Allen, like you said, pulled it out
of his ass two hundred and thirty two yards for touchdown.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Well, he stresses in a phone booth. If he does so,
they can't win.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Kyler Murray, Kyler Murray is doing what he We're normally
gonna see from him. Scramble, scramble, scramble, try to make
a play, doesn't really hang in the pocket. Will Levis
obviously made a mistake late. Kayla Williams didn't even throw
for one hundred yards. He only had ninety three in
his debut, Joe Burrow looked found a way to win. Yeah,
give it to him there, right, Joe Burrow looked average.
(12:27):
James average too. I think Tua was the only quarterback
he threw for three plus yeah, three hundred and thirty
eight yards. I think he's the only one. The Chargers
look pretty good in their debut, or with with Jim
Harbaugh as their head coach.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Sure did. And what did they do physically? Warrior out
did not have to They didn't. It's not like they
had to throw it fifty times. They ran it, were physical,
control the line, scrims. It's a different Chargers team. I'm
just telling you they're going to add physicality to it.
And how about Sam Donald's performance. I know it's the
Giants on the road, but Sam Donald's like, ooh, maybe
he is better than we think when he gets a
guy who can a good running back in Aaron owns,
(13:00):
a good receiver, but also a coach that knows how
to coach quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
How about Baker Mayfield two hundred and eighty nine yards
and four touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Yeah, well they validated that with what one hundred million
in the off season or something, And and he he
and he had a quiet offseason, which is a good thing.
You hear anything from from quiet off season.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
So and then looks are the two guys last night
Matt Stafford and Jared Goffer are both really good players.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Those are two really good teams. They sure are as well,
and they will both rams are going to beat a
lot of teams in Detroit. You can tell they're they're
resilience at the end and a great you know drive
to get themselves in field goal position. So it uh
was and you know, listen, you reward Prescott with a big,
a big deal and they the Browns. You want to
talk about a quarterback who's an underachiever. Oh my god,
(13:44):
Watson doesn't look anything like the same cat man. No,
I'm telling you right now, if they could do it
over again, they would not do it. He just looks
like a guy runs around a little indecisive, makes some
plays as the one drive where he takes him down
and hits like four or five, and he just there's no,
he's not. He's not carrying a team like great players should.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
He's just a guy.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
And I'm telling you that team. Do you realize all
the other guys that have been you look at the
numbers with Watson and Stefanski, there is no difference from
the guys. They're like thirty eight starting quarterbacks since Ty Detmer, right,
I mean, it's a they put the graphic up, it's crazy.
So you look at what they're doing, Thank goodness for
their defense. And yet the Cowboys Michael Parsons, was you
(14:24):
want to talk about if you were as close to
Superman in the game as you'll ever see, you couldn't
block him and good I mean Dak Prescott. Oh, they
don't want Dak Beck, Sure they don't. Well, the guaranteed
money guy, the guy in Dallas was a lot better
than the guy in Cleveland. The guy in Cleveland right
now is just a guy right now, he just is. Yeah,
tell me what scares you about him? Nothing? Nothing, And
(14:46):
it's just it's not the same for whatever reason. Now,
maybe he'll turn out to be great this year, but
right now pedestrian. Yeah at best, no doubt. Yeah, Well,
let's let's continue to talk to Houston Texans. Big win
over the Colt Stefan Diggs got two to whch down passes.
He was pumped up in the locker room after the game.
Maybe you had Deshaun Watson's blind Sean, you think he
needs a little help of his vision, Well, you know
(15:07):
what a lot of quarterback decisions. I was wondering what
Will Levis was thinking to maybe doctor Whitstit give him
a call, or he can give doctor Whitsle call. Just kidding, Hey,
doctor whits It will help though. I mean, I know
when I'm watching the TV, I don't have to squint
to you. Are you tired of contacts and glasses? Well,
why don't you get ahold of Jeff whitst w H

Speaker 3 (16:22):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Salsa That's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Welcome back to the Shawan Salisbury Show here on Sports
Talk seven ninety Sean Salisbury, Brian Alima, Connor McGovern Astros
take two out of three from the Diamondbacks over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
They are off today Texans beat the Colts.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Dak Prescott signing an extension with the Cowboys four years,
two hundred and forty million dollars, two hundred and thirty
million guaranteed, continue to talk Texans in that big win
one to zero on the season. Joe Mixon with a
hell of a game. Ste Von Diggs caught two touchdown
passes in his regular season debut with the Texans. This
(17:04):
is how his touchdown passes or excuse me, receptions sounded
on the broadcast.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Stroud on the slant, he's got Diggs, who's got a touchdown?
Stefan Diggs his first touchdown November at the Houston Texans.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
And if they don't make it here, they gotta go
ninety eight yards getting the zone fourth and goal.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Stroud throws caught touchdown Stephan Diggs his second of the game,
and Ryan Knowles the dyce Sonate pays off.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
That's how it sounded on the CBS broadcast UH yesterday afternoon.
Stefan Diggs got a couple of touchdown passes. Excuse me,
Shawn's was making me laugh during the during the audio.
Thanks for that, buddy, Appreciate that pleasure.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Glad to help. What do you think is Defon Diggs
and his debut team captain scores two touchdowns? Did his gig?
I liked it. He took it one play at a time,
is what I heard.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
I mean it didn't cover one hundred and fifty yards
worth of receptions, but they were have to. That's exactly right.
Speaker 7 (18:15):
He was.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
He caught valuable, caught the ball, I mean two tuddies. Yeah,
did everything he needed to do. That's what the kids
are calling it these days, puddies. They call him tutties, tuds.
I've never heard anybody say that you ever heard of
a tud? No, well he caught two of them. Yeah,
that too. Don't just start doing that because we'll start
hearing announcers not only nicknames. We've giving everybody a nickname
(18:37):
and calling him tuddies and all. That's just enough. I
thought Tom Brady did a nice job, solid without man.
People were crushing him because people are stupid. Fine, that
guy can walk you through. You want some broadcasters, go
ahead and say what you said off air. There's a
lot of people that need some work out there. And
(18:58):
when Cole McCoy gets his energy for the Nebraska Colorado
to Colorado Nebraska smart guy. Yeah, uh, if I know
it's it's early in his broadcast career, he's gonna probably
need to call Romo for a little energy. But on
the other side, maybe explain it a little more. But
that's going to take a minute. He fair. You can't
say yeah, yeah, I can't. He he was, he was, uh,
(19:19):
he was. He's gonna He's gonna be fine because he's smart, right,
just takes time to get into it. But and I'm
sure he's very well prepared because I love the guy.
But I don't know what they didn't want for what what?
What didn't you get from Brady?
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
I mean he now listen, he's got it. There's things
he'll get better on his energy. And but I didn't
think he talked over Burkhart.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
No.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
I thought he waited and jumped in when necessary. I
don't think he overacted or over broadcast. There may be
times energy I'd like him to delve a little bit
more about what he's thinking in third and six situations.
And I think Kevin Burkhart needs to continue to tee
him up and four and if he doesn't get the answer,
he wants follow up with it right, meaning you don't
know what the answer is. But for Tom, we don't
(20:03):
want to hear him say well when I played, but
he so quickly removed from it. Seven super Bowls. I
do want him to coach me while he's broadcasting, and
because I'm sitting I antestament. Okay, Tom, this is the
perfect opportunity for you to jump and say when you
and Edelman had third and six in a situation and
single elimination game, what happened? Or when you hit Gronk
on the pump the bender over? Why did it work?
(20:25):
Off play action? You know those things as he can
weave into the broadcast. But anybody who thought his debut
sucked doesn't has no idea. And that's just they would
have went in. It wouldn't matter if he'd have been
a superstar and would have been the best broadcaster in
the history. If he had have been John Madden relived,
they would have said, Oh, if you didn't like Tom Brady,
it wasn't any good according to them. If you liked him,
(20:46):
it was I'm just looking for a broadcasting standpoint. If
I turned it in and closed my eyes, don't care
who the guy is. I thought he was solid. Yeah,
I thought again, he'll get better. I'll tell you it
was the night before I was concerned with Joe Klatt
was interviewing him and they brought up the Cowboys and
Browns game. He was like hesitated. I'm thinking, dude, you're
in front of millions. You play in front of hundreds
of thousand every week, Mid A seven, Super Big or
Tom Right, You're gonna be fine. Just just talk us
(21:08):
like you would go. And it was I don't know
if it was felt like it was a delay in
his ear, but I thought, Tom, come on, relaxed, brother,
taking deep breath. They're good. It's gonna be okay. Okay, Yeah.
All he did was ask you, if you're Tom, how
would you It was a perfect Dallas, what Dallas? Cleveland?
Oh that boom? How I'd have prepared for Cleveland?
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Just tell us?
Speaker 4 (21:29):
And then with the Cowboys weave into how Mike McCarthy
runs office. I thought he made some very valid points.
And so all broadcasters in their first broadcast are gonna
captain obvious statements. They're gonna make status obvious. When he
gets to the point where he is like, okay, everybody
sees that because I can see with my own eyes
the ball was thrown over a guy's head. Why that's
(21:50):
what we can see. If it was radio, you got
to tell what was over the guy said, But on
TV we see it. So now that we know that
it was over. The guy said, what happened? Mechanics and wrongs?
Somebody in his fee he you know, bad release point
because Brady's a mechanic's fanatic, just little things without going
over x's and o's, And I think as he gets going,
you saw some enthusiasm entertained, so I thought he was good.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Though.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Yeah, he did a nice job.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
I think I don't care how long him and Kevin
burke Cart have been doing these dry runs together and
all this preparation and everything. When the lights are on,
so to speak, and it's an actual real game, you're
still gonna have to They're still gonna have time. They're
still gonna have to have time to build chemistry. I
think about you and I. We've been doing this, what
coming up on three years now already, it'll be three
(22:33):
years in the yeah, twenty five, So I would say
for us, and I know for I came in day one.
I was prepared as as all get out, and I
was still nervous as hell. Norman first time for us,
like I probably say, he probably took about a year
to get full blown to where we're at now. Well,
of course you know that's coming in prepared all every
day where you can finish sentences. You guy drive in
(22:55):
you know what you know when a guy with his
hot buttons are all those things. And Burt Cartill find
it right and Brady Brady, he's gonna go back. He's
gonna cringe it just because I guys like him. It's
like when Manning. They're not worried about the things they
said right, they're toad. They're focused on the thing.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Man, I missed an opportunity to pounce on this when
Kevin Tied meant he's gonna go back like a great
and he's gonna listen to his way. He's gonna be like,
oh gosh, even though if to us it may it
sounded fine to him, like anything go it did. I
don't want to hear that from his first broadcast. By
the time this season's over, it'll be like three years
for a quarterback in the NFL, those seventeen games, so,
and he'll get more reps going on the day before
(23:34):
when they interview him and who's the big game, and
they're gonna promote him. They're gonna promote all his quotes
and the great things he said. I thought he was fine.
He didn't win an Emmy last yesterday, but I he was.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Smooth.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
We expect him to be Tom Brady. Remember Tom Brady
quarterback wasn't good as a rookie either didn't play. It
was so let's it's gonna you gotta let it. And
that's why guys that are like you can tell their
trepidation when do I dive in over use the telestrader?
Don't use it?
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Do I do?
Speaker 4 (24:00):
And it's a it's just getting the mechanics straight. But
he's got so much to tell us. And as long
once the energy continues to ramp up, I thought he
was fine.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
And I hope they like did a good job, like
Aaron Andrews and even Mike Perera, like even Kevin Burkhardt
as well. Like I feel like during the broadcast they
they went to like the like the go to oh hey,
Mike McCarthy. Tom by the way said to me in
the pregame when you were playing, I'm so glad he's
in the booth.
Speaker 9 (24:24):
Haha.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
And it did instances like that all throughout the game.
I might stop it. It's like it was a mandate
brought down from Fox. Tell Tommy how great he is
doing a broadcast. I get teeing him up to put
him in successful situations so he doesn't like fail at it. Right,
you wouldn't have had him like if if you were
interviewing a presidential candidate at halftime, you got enough to
do right now, Tom didn't have to ask him those
(24:45):
cool right right, let him focus. But yes, they went overboard.
Oh you know I was talking to Dak Prescott. He
just signed Tommy, I said, Tommy, I said, what a
dog got the bag? Like man or like when they're
in the booth, you know, when they come into the booth.
I think Burkhard says about the looks and the hair.
It's like, well, you know it was a great line
by Brady goes well, you know, whatever the fans want.
(25:07):
Whatever it was, and so it was clever.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
And then Pereira they did a review and Tom was like, hey, Mike,
what do you think on this? And Mike said something
about the play, and then they started bantering back and
forth and he was like, well, Tom, we you know,
we as referee spent all this time protecting you in
your career.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Right it's all, and they're going to do that for
a long so where everything they do is going to
build out Brady's and you know what the game is
the analyst. Yeah, I hate to say, and you're watching
the game for the game, but he's giving you all
the insight. You're the TF guy. His job is to
throw it up there and let him hit it out
of the ballpark. Absolutely, and and Tom will he'll do it.
But I didn't think anybody that says he sucks. Yeah, broadcaster,
(25:45):
they didn't watch. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I'm not a Cowboys fan and I love football, but
just listening to Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhart together, even
though they were little hesitant at times, it kept me
glued to that terrible ass game and just.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
And tying it in it was it was tying one.
I'm sure he tied maybe had a few beers to star.
I'm sure once he finally was able to loose that tack.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Damn Haull.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
This two year hype got it out of the way. Now,
just hit the ground running, tell us something we don't know,
yeah exactly, and you'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
All right, Let's talk about the offensive line for the
Houston Texans. They performed extremely well yesterday in that win
against the Colts, but before we get to that, fellas,
Let's go get you a nice edge up.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Let's get you looking right. Let's get your ears lowered.

It's Boardroom styleing Lounge. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued a
little Motown Monday. You're on the Sewn Salisbury Show. You know,
(27:32):
real quick, you got headlines. There's a million headlines, shdor Sanders.
What a great leader that was. Uh, anyway, we'll get
to that. Gotta love throwing your offensive line on the
under the bus when you leave the field with two
minutes left when you're one hundred percent healthy.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
But I digress real quick about that. Yeah, he's not
wrong there. He's getting his ask kicks. Oh yeah, they're
beating him up. But suck though all the way around
to sit up there and say, fabyitis right ole to
get hit, Well, we're comparing quarterbacks. That's not your offensive line, right,
even if you leave it. And even if he said
things that are right, doesn't mean he got to say
them right. If there's one group of dudes you don't
(28:06):
want to have, you know, throw him under the bus,
say you know we're gonna get better. I got to
help him in protection. We're gonna sew it up Nebraska
plague and stay out there with your teammates because he's
he's an entitled coach's son. He's a hell of a player,
but he's an title coach son. And that to me,
You sit out there with them, U escort them in
with your teammates I'm talking about and take it like
(28:27):
take it, take the loft to yell like a grown
ass man. Yeah, and he gets beat up. And I
know he's a tough and he's a good football player,
but I tell you what, when you do that, it
tells me it's you and then everybody else. And he
knows he's not gonna be held much accountable for it. No,
probably get another endorsement.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Yeah, they tried to Dion Sanders tried to say we
wanted to get him in the locker room to make
sure that he was healthy.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Oh, sure you did. And what about the other fourteen
guys are getting their brains beat in during the game.
So my point is that you know what certain things
you put a muzzle on, and throwing a teammate under
the bus, especially the guys who protect you, because you
know what, I know the those guys I've seen it
at some point in time when they feel they're defeated.
You know what they'll do. You want a free runner, dude,
You're gonna get a free runner. You want to you know,
(29:08):
I know you'd see that Joey in the movies like
North Dallas forty and in the Longest Yard. I got
news for you. It happens with the big boys too.
They'll send a loud message as if to say, next time,
zip it pal. So we'll get to that. Speaking of
offensive lines, I thought they dominated the line scrimmers of
the Texans. But I'll tell you what, they're gonna have
to improve their pass protection. Yeah, I saw which shocked me.
They were not that good upfront pass yet last year.
(29:31):
You know could We've always complained about can they move
the pile, run block and get more physical protect the
quarterback boom? Yesterday it was the opposite. They mauled the
line of scrimmage and had a hard time. And I'm
to tell you what. The defensive front for the Colts
and I was pretty good. Yeah, They've got some good
players up there and they pushed them around. And if
it was the Colts going in thinking well, we got
(29:53):
to focus on CJ. Straw Well, you saw what mixing
did to them. So they're gonna have to sew up
pass protection and give him more clean pockets.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Yeah, because uh for actually, probably for the first time,
uh C J. Stroud ran quite a bit, scrambled, got
out of the pocket.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
I don't mind him buying time and getting extra plays,
But what I do mind is too much of it. Yeah,
too much of it gets you in trouble. And I'll
tell you what. He's not good for us standing on
the sidelines, right, you know we don't need that. But boys,
he yes, he can some of the throws he can
still make, and he even I don't think he was
his sharpest yesterday. He missed a few that he'd normally make.
(30:30):
A man when it's when the when it's nut cutting
time that throw and Collins has taking another step. He
accepted obviously the challenge. Dell's a really good player, healthy
bringing stuff on Diggsie like now yet I'm and he
is talking about just what just what they've been doing
to us with the wide receiver, with the Hilton t
(30:50):
Y Hilton. He's starting to eat. He's returned the favor
big time to the Colts.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Yeah, there's no question about it. Let's hear from Stefan Diggs.
He spoke about that offensive line, old one.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
You gotta get the on line.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
It's credit.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
I mean, we get all you know, the hoop line.
Speaker 10 (31:08):
We got the celebrations and all that, but the game
is one up front.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Playing on the other side of the scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Scrimmers is huge.
Speaker 11 (31:15):
Our line dropped the nuts when they had to came
out with it, Jodie dul By myself. But you know,
it's just a game, teacher, where you can run the
ball with three minutes left, get those two big first downs.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
He gotta put it in the air.
Speaker 9 (31:29):
You're on it.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Something drop a nuts when they had to. Sean, you
wouldn't know anything about.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
That, though, dog, come on now, because some of us
just automatically dropped well before our time.
Speaker 12 (31:41):
Yea.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
The offensive line was was really really good, phenomenally dominant
in the run game.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Man.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
I just I love the fact that Joe Mixon just
runs out there with no gloves on a couple of elbows.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
That's old school. Frank o'haris stuff, man.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
But is he not a beast?
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Like his vision and his cuts like for a bigger
running back. Did you see no disrespect to Damien Pierce,
but did you see the understanding of what they're trying
to get done. Yeah, it was like one of his
early carries boom jump weighted patient patients, set it upset, boom,
puts his foot.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
In the ground, cuts back. He reminds me of Arian Foster. Yeah,
like the way that Aaron Foster ran the football when
he was with the teams.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
Probably Aaron Foster physical, but also I mean he's one
of the slide slides up, boom hit the whole. Mixing
I think between when you're just going straight downhill might
be yeah, a little bit a little more, just a
tad more physical, which doesn't take anything away from Foster,
but I'd say Foster's probably a little swifter. But yet,
if you were wondering if he had wiggle, Mixing's got
(32:41):
plenty of wiggle. But he is Remember we talked about
a guy who can handle twenty five touches. You saw it,
check down, get him the ball. You saw everything that
they brought Mixing here for. And then some guy doesn't play.
He obviously takes his conditioning serious. He was ready to play.
It's not like, well, he's on a pitch count. Yeah, no,
give him twelve fifteen carries to working back. It's like
(33:02):
this full grown man. The ball ain't heavy, give it
to him, and of the ball off of a third
and like seven or whatever it was. Or so I'm
just gonna tell you how important if this, if this
if his pre Now they're not gonna run for Buck
thirty with him every game or Buck forty, but the
touches and the thread out of the backfield, catching it
and play action is going to destroy defenses this year.
The Colts are pretty damn good. I'm just telling Mixon.
(33:24):
I was so excited when they went and got him
because this is such a When you talk about versatility,
the guy you're going to watch tonight, McCaffrey is pretty
friggin versatile. Right, Yeah, but you tie and you saw
Saquon Barkley's game. Yeah yeah, But when you talk, I'm
talking about all around. Like I said, the guy with thumpia,
who's during all the things you want from a back
Joe Mixon has, And I thought Slow did a phenomenal
(33:47):
job of making sure you didn't let him wonder how
he was going to fit into the offense. You found out. Now,
if you're the Chicago Bears this week on a practice field.
Good luck. Yeah, you prepare for what that band would brings.
Now and Tag Dell touches it, Digs touches it. The
tight end will get more involved as they roll along.
Nico Collins, you you can't. You have to prepare this
(34:09):
week and we'll get it at the end of the week.
If you're the Bears, you Sunday Night football, You got
to prepare this week. Your first priority is going to
have to be stopping Joe Mixon. It's just gonna have to.
If you don't stop the run, you got no chance.
And that's saying something on a team that's got an
MVP quarterback, right, So what one guy? I think he's
(34:30):
was the only he had to move the pile. But
I'll tell you what, he did a hell of a
job moving the pile a few times by him, damn self.
Joe Mixon is a full grown man now.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
I'm telling you seven pet three two two five, seven
ninety is the number to join. We'll open up the
phone lines. Tom, Ronnie Roger, you guys are up next.
We continue to talk about these Texans beating the Colts.

back to the Shawan Salisbury Show here on Sports Talk seven.
Hy Sean, Brian and Connor Tripley out today. He'll be
back with us tomorrow. Triple eadn't quit, did he? I
don't think so.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
He's up in Shytown. Dog geez dude, starting a vacation
like you do. Okay, every frigging day off. Here we go.
You two have just decided that hey, if we can't
get a baseball game day off because it's a day game,
we'll just take of ourselves.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
I also, you know, it is Motown Monday. And Connor
reappreciates you joining us this morning? Do Connor even know
what motown means? He's an hour, he's just like night.
So two basic white guys, now we got three basic
whit we really do? We have no culture on?
Speaker 9 (37:05):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Yeah, the whoa, whoa, whoa. There's plenty of culture on here. Yeah,
but that's got to be racist. And you don't think
any white guys have culture. Well we're three basic white guys.
Well there, you could be basic and still have culture.
I mean I have culture. I'm from Spring Spring, you're
from this. We got welcome. We gotta welcome, we gotta welcome.
He's a rookie to our show, is correct?
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Doing a great jobs one other time?
Speaker 2 (37:24):
I think? Right?
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Right, Connor, I don't think I've ever this is my
first time. That's right, he's never done it, but he's
never produced the full time. You guys have stayed back
and covered for next time. Right, Yeah? He I mean
look at you know, tall, handsome white guy. But is
there any guy that looks more like you just waltzed
out of an airport in Missouri than Connor? Yeah? You
look at it.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
He's got he's got it. White guy, clean collar shirt exactly.
While we're wearing joggers and hoodies.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
There is no question he's the guy you want to
take to the like when you when you bring them
home to mom. Yes, absolutely, there he is. Oh look
at this basic marry my daughter. Yeah, if I didn't know,
he's like Stanford and Vanderbilt built into one right here. Connor, though,
I don't think so. I think I think he's scared
a little scarl man, don't. I don't think he had
(38:11):
one beer this weekend, Connor. I might have indulged a
little bit, a little bit. Even he's smart. He didn't
even say had a beer. It's like indulge. Yes, there
you go, there you go. He'll be in, he'll be
he'll be in the manches at Newport, Rhode Island before
you do it. Great to have you on, brother, appreciate
you being here. Welcome to the be the third basic
(38:32):
white guy for it. I appreciate it. Yeah, tripley, right
and triple He's in a sheets right now. I guarant as.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Soft. Yeah, man, Cadillac up there, man, and we're doing
we're down here grinding. You know, anybody, we didn't even
have to pay dues for this country club man? Sure doesn't.
Don't believe real incredible talk to Tom. Tom, we appreciate
you holding uh Connor, can you help me out a
little bit there? He is?
Speaker 4 (38:55):
What's up Tom?
Speaker 10 (38:57):
Hey, guys, great to be with you. What a start, man?
And where do I start? Let me just say this last.
Speaker 13 (39:04):
Year, Sean, in the preseason, I called up and I
said something about a quarterback and I couldn't put my
finger on it, and you said the word boys, we
saw it early in the game. Yes, they're the poison
of this quarterback and it carries to the rest of
the team. Behavior bleeds and you know what I'm talking about.
If you don't just watch the first half of that game,
(39:27):
the poise that was exhibited by j holding On could
have been could have been danger toime as far as
Joe Mixon Stefan Diggs paying dividends already. You know the
thing that stands out to me about the game when
it's all said and done, The Colts were never allowed
(39:47):
to get back in that game. They never let them
overcome the Texas. Even when Richardson took that ball into
the end zone. Man, he's a low.
Speaker 10 (39:57):
That guy's going to be urged him.
Speaker 13 (40:00):
The text entailed on they came down the field after
that touchdown, and they made it work. And that's what
I like to see about a team. And there was
no better moment for me at the end of the
games than to have the Miko Ryans who dents that
ball to Nixon that said it all. This is what
we brought the guy here to do. And if it
(40:23):
keeps going like that, it's going to be a happy
season for us. We'll got some things to clean up,
but they'll get it done. Thanks for letting me and
guys appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
Tom, Thank you. And there's always things to clean up.
And I'll tell you what you want to walk. They're
going to watch the film the day and say there's
some pretty good That was a really good clean start
on the road where they've had trouble with the Colts.
But the Colts don't seem to win opening games. They
just me in that BI, I think they haven't. Is
it like with nine in a row or ten or whatever,
eight in row something? Yeah, whatever it is. But it
was a and it was a gut check win too,
(40:55):
because they had they had to stave off some big
plays that they had to overcome, but man winning doubt
and hand it to the big fell and you're in
good shape man, Ronnie. Good morning, Good morning, guys.
Speaker 14 (41:06):
I don't want to let my baseball mentality interfere with
the football thinking, but I don't want to have to
see Mixing be forced to exhibit one hundred percent max
effort on every play all the time. I don't have
any carries he had, but if he has to do
(41:27):
as much as what he did yesterday for all seventeen games,
number one, he's not going to be able to. And
you know, they got to find somebody to help him out.
And I know they've got the whole you know, the
whole offense. We know what it's like. But there were
times when you knew he was going to get the ball.
He had to get the ball. But if he wouldn't
have been in a game, will you have given it
(41:48):
to Damien or would you have given it? And where
was cam Akers? Was he on the inactive? I didn't
remember whether he was active or not.
Speaker 9 (41:56):
But it was a great game.
Speaker 14 (41:58):
But I just hope that they don't overuse him, you know,
because it's just like starting pitchers. Oh my god, he
threw one hundred pitches.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Get him out.
Speaker 14 (42:06):
Oh he's throwing complete games every time get him out.
I don't want to see that happen with Mixing. I
don't want to see him exhausted by the seventeenth game.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
It's a great point, Ronnie. Thank you, Ronnie. It's an
an excellent point. The one thing I do know that
he's strong enough to do it, but you want him
that strong in December. While these early wins matter, they
all do, but you want him that strong to when
the run. You'd like to have a game where it's
you know, forty one to ten, Tory gets fifteen touches
and you're out by three touchdowns and then you can
(42:36):
get the other two guys work. And Ronnie answer your question.
There was no way Damian Pierce would have got that
load yesterday. No, and because he can't, that's too much
load for him. And it was inside and outside running.
But you saw the difference. And listen, I love the
fact that they're patient with Pierce, trying to get him
to another level and hopefully in his appearent you know,
(42:57):
his spot appearances in a game. He'll start to watch
mix and understand how important patience is in this type
of system. Mixing epitomized it yesterday. He was outstanding, and
you just knew. You can see the difference on tape
when they watch it. You're running into one guy's back
because you're not patient, and you're getting six, seven, eight,
ten yards because you are clutch running from him. He
(43:18):
is strong enough to handle the load. But I'm with you, Ronnie.
I'd like to have him to the point where when
he hits December, he feels even refreshed and ready to go.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
But he won't.
Speaker 4 (43:27):
They'll they'll win games where he doesn't have to do
what he did yesterday regularly, but they're gonna have to
sew up their pass protection, which I trust because well
we've seen him do it. I needed to know how
physical they were, and I found out yesterday up front.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
At least in this game, thirty carries for mixing hunting
fety nine and how many catches catches Joe Mixon had
three for nineteen yards.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
So he had thirty three touches in the game. Give
me about twenty five to twenty eight and I'll be
in that twenty five touches, twenty two carries, four or five.
He'll he'll start to catch more balls in space. But he,
as you see, he is a friggin load man, and
he's got some great football intelligence because he's a patient runner.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
Let's look across the AFC South from a big slate
of games yesterday, obviously the Texans being the Colts. We'll
continue to discuss it right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Hey guys, uh sort of pro painters. It's that's painting
happy is what it is. Meaning they when when you
see the paint job, and when you see they're doing
their paint job, and when they're done and wall the
way through, it makes you happy.

they would do their own. And to me that matters.
It's a personal touch and again efficiently, not hovering around
and wasting time and taking seven hour lunch breaks, getting
it done right and efficient the way you want it
and it looks great. It's sort of with the sea
sort of pro sortapro dot com sort of pro painters.
That's painting happy.
Speaker 1 (45:33):

Speaker 2 (45:38):
Okay, let's do this.

Texans Roger, Good morning.
Speaker 5 (46:24):
Good morning, gentlemen. How are you guys doing?
Speaker 4 (46:26):
Fantastic?
Speaker 16 (46:28):
Man, those ut Longhors, what a message sent. First game
of the year, first big game of the year, within
in the big house. That's that's pretty impressive. And I
don't even you know, I'm not a big Longhorn guy,
but you know we're in Texas. Uh I stick, I
stick a local to the koots. But bad that was impressive.
Uh So the Texans? Uh yeah, that was a good
That was a.
Speaker 5 (46:48):
Good win on all three phases. Amen.
Speaker 16 (46:50):
Good, good start, nice team, nice team victory. Yeah, a
little a little over over worked by Joe Mixon first game. Man,
that's impressive.
Speaker 12 (46:59):
Guy.
Speaker 5 (46:59):
We're we're concerned about his training.
Speaker 16 (47:01):
I don't think I mean his uh yeah, his his
training in the off season, and we'll have to be
concerned him that anymore.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
I don't think, uh man. Uh So, Anthia Richards is gonna.
Speaker 13 (47:10):
Be a problem.
Speaker 5 (47:11):
I didn't want to have to say that, but yeah,
he's gonna be a.
Speaker 16 (47:13):
Problem if he learns how to do any eater media
throws and read redefense is better.
Speaker 5 (47:18):
Yeah, he's gonna be a big problem for us.
Speaker 9 (47:20):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (47:21):
He almost beat us with two gives and.
Speaker 16 (47:23):
A freaking rubble to the end zone. That's that's crazy.
But yeah, great great work by by by CJ and
the offense and the defense coming through offensive line looked good.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
At the end.
Speaker 12 (47:36):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (47:37):
So we're moving on to mister Verlander.
Speaker 10 (47:41):
Yeah, I'll know they're.
Speaker 16 (47:41):
Giving him every opportunity to uh to grab that fourth
spot in the rotation. But I've never seen Verlander look
that bad in in uh in spring training to the
two to eight runs and like three or four, honey,
and so I'm very concerned with that moving forward. Ronell
brock Will looked very strong out of the bull pit.
I like to see that if he had that kind
(48:03):
of luxury guys for the pleasure as always.
Speaker 5 (48:07):
It was good time.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
Well, I can tell you this from the result we've
seen the last four or five starts. Verlander is not
in your rotation right now in the postseason and starting
rotation can't be. Nope, And that's not disrespect to a
guy lifetime achievement of order. It's just fact he can't
he's having trouble getting anybody out.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
He just can't.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (48:27):
I mean, he got shelled. His whole career has been fantastic,
but we're talking about current.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
You can't now unless you run him out and start
him and you're prepared in the third inning to get
somebody else in there. He's not better than Blanco right now.
He's not better than Hunter Brown. He's not better than Fromber.
He's not better than I mean, Arraghetti. We know what
is rough. I mean he had one too that made
you think, what was that the Thursday night? Was it Thursday? Thursday?
(48:56):
It was it Thursday? The last game against Cincinnati?
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (48:59):
Right?
Speaker 5 (48:59):
Where he?
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (49:00):
I mean what nine runs in the first inning. But
I can tell you now, I don't know how aside
from veteran and KG performance wise, you can run him
out there as a starting rotation because he's not getting
anybody out. No, no, not at all. Something's not right. Yeah,
it's it's not good. It's too those guys are just
raking him. It's becoming too easy. I hate saying that
(49:22):
for a guy that I am a big fan of.
Speaker 3 (49:25):
Four starts since coming off the injured list, as era
is nine point six to eight season era five point three,
three innings, eight hits, all of them, earned one walk,
seventy five pitches. In those three innings, he generated just
four whiffs. So the swing and miss stuff not there.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
It's just not good. He's not in your rotation. Sorry,
this is what it is today.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
He's not a damn about the back of the baseball
card pedigree all that other.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
He's not in your playoff rotation. And we say, okay,
we'll give him what four or five more starts to see.
I mean, let's wait until the postseasons here before we
see it. But you've got to see some eviden that
tells it that he's one of your front three guys.
The evidence tells me he's not. Yeah, since he's come
back right right now, right, not in it. I mean,
(50:12):
but do you think they'd started Uh? Yeah, I agreed.
I do think they would roll them out there. Agreed? Yeah, John,
welcome in.
Speaker 6 (50:22):
Hey, good morning guys, Hey Texans game yesterday. What was
really nice to see is that we were able to
do ball control. I mean, we controlled that second half
time wise, and we did the right thing keeping the
Colts offense off the field, I think it was well
into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
The announcer said that that Colts.
Speaker 6 (50:40):
Had only had the ball like for five minutes, and uh,
I think like towards the end of the game, we
were wearing them down, and the Colts are a very
physical team, so it was, uh, it was great to
see that we have the ability to do that. And
I that's what's really encouraging to me, that we can
really control the ball and dominate the play basically in
the clock. So it was great win, great win against
(51:02):
a good team. So very encouraged and liked what I
saw a lot, and you know, there's some things to
work on, obviously, but overall it was a very very
good win.
Speaker 4 (51:11):
Appreciate it, John, thank you for the calls. Always a
great point about being able to control the game and
control the clock and control the tempo of the game
with your run game and then make the necessary throws
when you had to move changs. And it was a
really and they kept themselves for the most part in
not having to go third and twelve, third and four.
(51:33):
In watching the Cleveland and the Cleveland game and going backwards,
you can't, I mean, when you're playing third and twelve,
second nine, third and ten. That far behind the change,
you've got no shot. And they gave themselves a chance
by keeping the down and distance reasonable on a regular basis.
And one of the things I felt strongly about is
(51:56):
it on third and five, third and six. You don't
always have to throw it, and I saw yesterday they don't.
So if you decide to spread out and play that
and you're playing coverage and it's third and six, Bobby
Slow has to have the confidence and after one day
have one game, how can you not of being able
to give the ball to Mixing in the right situation
that he's going to get that first down or at
(52:17):
least on the other side of the field, get you
to fourth and short to where you can now have
a decision whether to go for it or not. And
now you understand why I don't play starting running backs
in the preseason. I don't know what Joe Mixon, I'm
not worried about it. Pro get himself ready to play.
He's never been fat and out of shape. He's a strong,
powerful guy. What benefit do I have even if he's
(52:39):
new and he's been in this system and knows the
verbage anyway? With Cincinnati, what do I need to learn
about Joe Mixon the preseason nothing. That's why I wouldn't play.
If he was one hundred percent healthy, he would not
have seen the field. And if you play your starting
running back, why would I play McCaffrey. Ever in the
preseason you don't? Yeah, well, I mean I just why
would I? Now, Damian Pierce should have taken eighty percent
(53:02):
of the snaps along with Cam Akers, right, yes, and
they did for the most part. He's not seeing the field,
mean him mixing, and you saw how fresh leged he
was yesterday. You mentioned not having a chance. You know
who doesn't have a chance. The Panthers. They're gonna be better, dude,
But I'll tell you what if they have to be.
They have a forty seven attacks.
Speaker 12 (53:22):
Now.
Speaker 4 (53:22):
Now, if you're watching that game against the New Orleans team,
that's good but not great. Now, their defense made Bryce
Young and red. They made the offense. Now, Dennis Allen's defense,
they'll get after you, and they've got really good back in.
They're good defense. I can tell you this, though. They're
not forty seven points. And now they were top ten
scoring last year, which may shocks people were the Saints.
(53:44):
But they're not a top ten offense in this league,
but Carolina made it look way too easy and I
was actually shocked. I expected them to show up and
keep it close. I think a lot of people did.
Offensive line got better, their perimeter people got better. And
I said, on a show, Yet, there's no way we
can after one year call Bryce Young a bust and
tell us that CJ. Stroud's in the Hall of Fame.
(54:05):
But I can see this trial who's better. I get that,
But I wouldn't quit on Bryce Young after one year, right,
But I can tell you one year one game, after
watching that, you're like, they don't their offenses, No, they're pathetic. Yeah,
And you're like, they've got to get better doing this correct. Yeah,
and then they absolutely have to. Yesterday they were they
look like and they should be playing on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
Giants are Giants are not very good either. Daniel Jones, man,
he stinks. If this continues, they're that whole. They're gonna
they'll have a new quarterback and new head coach and
a nude staff at the end of the year. Yeah,
because Daniel Jones, he's got Melik Neighbors as an unreal talent.
And there were throws that he just flat out missed
(54:49):
to Malik Neighbors.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
Daniel Jones will never be a consistent starter in the league.
He got that money, though I respect him. He's a
guy who'll be in the league as long as he wants,
probably ten twelve, fifteen years yep, as a back. But
if you're thinking he's going to be leading you to
the super Bowl, that those chances are slimming and none. Yeah,
let's go.
Speaker 3 (55:05):

beat the Colts, Texas beats Michigan, Notre Dame upset by
(56:52):
Northern Illinois. All Right, yesterday in the NFL, some interesting
things happened. I reak Kill was detained by police trying
to make his way into the stadium down in Miami.
He spoke on the field about getting detained, and this
is how it sounded, you.
Speaker 17 (57:13):
Know what, man, So when I left home, I told
my wife, I was like, Babe, I'm finna go to
work and I'm gonna get prepared for my day.
Speaker 3 (57:19):
Literally, Dad.
Speaker 4 (57:20):
No, that was quite a surprise on the way, man.
Speaker 3 (57:22):
But you know what, at the end of the day, Dog,
I got a time to do.
Speaker 17 (57:25):
If my job is to come inside of this stadium
and be great, doll.
Speaker 18 (57:28):
So what did it mean to you for your teammates
to join you this morning and show support, Boy?
Speaker 3 (57:33):
I loved it.
Speaker 17 (57:34):
I was fired up, dog to see Joe new to
see class, you know, right there in.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
The heat of the battle with me.
Speaker 17 (57:39):
Man, That goes to show that, man, it's more than
it's more than about football.
Speaker 12 (57:43):
Dog.
Speaker 3 (57:43):
Like the brotherhood that we got outside of just.
Speaker 17 (57:45):
Football is amazing, dog, because those dudes were like really
risking their lives for me.
Speaker 3 (57:50):
You feel me?
Speaker 17 (57:50):
So shut out to Joe new Shout out to Las,
Shout out to Drew Brooks.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
Shout out to everybody.
Speaker 12 (57:54):
Man.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Turn out to my mom too. My mom got out
the call go So I'm talking to you.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
Feel me?
Speaker 3 (57:58):
Turn out, Come on, Duke too.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
You feel me?
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Tyreek, what happened this morning?
Speaker 17 (58:03):
You know what, I'm not gonna come in on any
of that, man, like whenever stuff.
Speaker 12 (58:07):
Come on.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
We're the best in the nation.
Speaker 12 (58:09):
Man.
Speaker 17 (58:09):
But look like I said, I'm not gonna coming on that.
We're just gonna lit by guns, speaking by guns.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Move on and learn from it. That's it. Appreciate the time.
Ty Hi free zbo I free cheetam baby slam.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
That's Tyreek Hill all that. Did he call her dog
like eight times? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (58:27):
You just feel me dog?
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (58:28):
Yeah, shout out to mama. Hey.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Uh So he was pulled out of his car. Uh
he was handcuffed, slammed to the ground. In the video,
you could see a police officer with the need of
the back. My question, you, Sean, is we saw what
happened in Kentucky at Valhalla with Scottie Scheffler with an
over zealous cop, And now we see another over zealous
cop with Tyreek Hill, professional football player, trying to get
(58:51):
into the stadium. Allegedly he was weaving in and out
of traffic trying to get into the stadium. Whatever it is,
but to pull this man out of his car, put
him in handcuffs, slam him to the grounds, like five
cops around them. Tyreek Hill's like five to nine, what
are we doing?
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Well, I'm I'm not willing to put it all in
the cops. I'm sorry, I'm just not and I'm not
willing to put it all on Tyreek Hill either one
of them till I know what happened. I just saw
speculation from a distance. People jumped down Scottie Scheffler's throat
and they were wrong. Now he was wrong by doing
but probably by being a little late andret that what
are you gonna do? And and going past somebody that
(59:28):
he didn't realize, not paying a little paying attention but
not enough. I guess, okay, because you're focused on what
you're about to go do. Tyreek Hill same way. I
don't know what was said, and I don't know what
was done. Do they get over zealous yet? But for
me to sit here and say, Tyreek Tyreek Hill has
been a turd in the past. Look at his background,
so it's easy for you to say, oh, what a shock.
This guy got himself and a great player. But he's made,
(59:49):
he's made some done some heinous things in the past.
He's been forgiven of it with Andy Reid brought him
in to Miami. So I'm not old. This passed against
We all got a past. Doesn't mean I have to
endorse his past, Okay. And I don't know what went
on there because Janke you I saw it from a camera.
Now two or three days, something will come out. I
don't know what he said.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
What you say doesn't deserve to get you dragged out
and handcuffed. It does to talk and come over there
and take five guys what you said. Listen, we ask
people to kids to deal with people who say stupid things,
and we say stupid things. It's the same thing here.
Somebody says something, it's like, you've got to be a
little have some common sense when somebody's talking. Now, he
(01:00:30):
punched the guy when it went after him, and then
you all we saw was the guy pulling about different stories.
So I'd love to say it's not sitting on the fence.
But I hate when we jump out and automatically blame
the cops or automatically blame one guy one hundred percent,
because that's what our optics want us to believe until
it comes out and we know exactly what it is.
There's plenty of over zealous cops, and there's plenty of
(01:00:51):
really good ones, and there's plenty of athletes who are
entitled and are turds. The question is how big a
turd was he on this or was it all on
the cops. I don't know, but you feel me, dog, Yeah,
I know that. And he's gonna let bygones be by gone. Yeah,
I don't know. I don't know if he's gonna let
bygones be bygones, but he wants that to happen. So
(01:01:12):
I have no idea how deep it goes.
Speaker 19 (01:01:15):
I know this.
Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
I'm sure it lies somewhere once again, and they're in
the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Yeah, just like the Scottie Scheffer thing, and still actually
all the facts came out. It's just like I don't
know if there's okay, let me ask you. Obviously you
played in the NFL. How difficult is it? And again,
I'm not trying to back up either side here, cops
or I support first responders. I support the military that
has we're talking about. This is a single you're talking about,
this situation fair and this is two instances now that
(01:01:42):
we've seen where professional athletes trying to get into their
venue have been different cities, right, different cities, different states,
different cops. How difficult is it as a professional athlete
to get in, especially from the football side of things.
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
You have your own entrance, yeah, are your own part?
You don't you're not parking in the same area. Anything
about Now, if you want to get there an hour
before the game starts, you don't get your own you
don't get your own pathway. That's why the bus goes early.
And that's why if you're driving yourself you go for
a one o'clock game, guys are there usually between nine
and ten am or a little after. I got there
(01:02:19):
ten thirty for a one o'clock game. For a noon
game nine to thirty, I didn't require two hours to
get ready. I didn't like sitting around that long right
for some if you're running behind, you still got to
be smart. That's I mean, that's just you robbed Peter.
Now you're paying Paul. I don't know the weave in
and out of traffic. We've seen how that happens. But
(01:02:40):
what happens and not by the weave in and out
but another bus. You just got to be careful. That's
why the quick we all have this. Do you want
to be the first to say the guy I don't
know what Tyreek Hill did, and I sure as hell
don't know how it takes five and we say he's
five nine fights in, but Tyreek Hill's not exactly. It's
not exactly some four pound weekling, right, I mean, guys,
(01:03:02):
guy taking punishment every week so he can handle himself.
Does it take five cats or three dogs to do it?
You know what I'm saying, No cats and dog. You
get my point? You feel me? Dogeel. But so that's
why try not trying to resist like oh, because of
his past he's still a turd, or because of the cops,
because of what happened in Kentucky. It's on him now.
This is a situation. You got to be able to
(01:03:24):
compartmentalize and do it and eventually we'll know and that's why.
And then you could say, well, what a shock, the
guy's a turd, or here we go a little over zealous.
You find one in every group, right, yeah, right, it's
just but it's not hard to get to the stage,
especially if you're getting there at the time. You know
the entrance, and even if it takes an extra few minutes,
(01:03:45):
leave five minutes early.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
You know who is the guy that I never want
to hang out with? Those that Jeff Darlington of ESPN,
because you're there too.
Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
Yes, again, it's like, is Darlington just setting all this up?
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
Dude? Was there when Scotty Scheffer got arrested right there
thing yesterday?
Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
I guess what that's called? Good timing Award to break stories. Brother,
It's almost like, Jeff, let I got a story for you, man,
let's do this, and so you can. But you know,
a good timing award by Darnington, all those those are
two stories to two timing awards. You really don't want
to have to report, yeah, because you don't want that
to happen. But here we go again, what do they
you know? You don't they didn't build a bike path
(01:04:22):
for players to get into the stadium, so you got
to leave at the right time. But they do have
their own parking area, right, Let's be wise and little patient.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Jerrosenhouse, Tyreek Hill's agent, was also in Miami, spoke with
Jeff Dardent and said basically that he had no business
being put to the pavement, but we're going to do
our due diligence. And apparently Tyreek Kill has been outspoken
about wanting to be a police officer after his football
career is over and has something for God ifits is
a foundation that he supports, the military for him.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
I don't think he did it because he hates I'm
just saying to do that, right. Yeah, I don't like
I said. I I think Tyreek Hill deserves the un
tell don't judge his passion this, but people are going
to and then don't judge these police officers by somebody
else who did something wrong because we don't know, and
I don't care to be first on. It's just like, okay,
let's get it right, then we can break down. Don't
(01:05:13):
do this. What's the solution? All those things? Nobody got hurt.
But I do have a hard time if nobody's in
a physical danger. Why over a violation drive? And I
got to put a guy on the pavement. I can't
just at least put him against the card. He's not
going to sprint away and run away. Can we a
little common sense both ways? I don't know what happened
to it, we don't seem to have much of it.
(01:05:33):
But the judgment on either side isn't fair until you
have the facts. The problem is we're in a society
where everybody thinks they got the facts and they overload
their mouth with their ass before they got them. I'm
not willing to do that because then you got to
come back to say by apology. I don't have to
apologize to anybody if you're straight with it. And what
I do know is what's happened to past in certain
situations and this one, who the hell knows. We'll find
(01:05:54):
out though, Thank goodness, nobody got hurt, like what happened
with the bus and the picking people up and some
of the gentleman gets a volunteer. Thank goodness, none of
that happened here.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Yeah, crazy man, Wait up, you see Tyreek killing handcuff somebody?
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
I thought I was like, are you sure that's him?
Are you burying the lead? Though? Who's that? Russe Wilson
inactive and had his shoulder pads on? Damn it, dude,
That's what I was about. The teams it up, dude.
Well he is, then, you know what, he's the gift
that keeps on giving. He is, Hey, you're not playing well,
I'm gonna put my full uniform on anyway in my pad.
(01:06:33):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
All right, let's let's talk about Russell Wilson in his situation.
We'll also look across the NFL UH and some of
the results from a full slate of games on Sunday.
Let's continue to do that next right here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Fellas, it's all about looking good, especially
when you're going out on a date, going in for
a job interview, going to work, wherever you're going. You
(01:06:55):
gotta have your hair right. You gotta have it nice
and tight. You gotta have a good look on top
of the head with the uh with your haircut. And
I know where you can go for that, and it
is the boardroom styling lounge. Right now, they have their
twentieth anniversary going on, and there's a twenty dollars off
their signature service called the Benchmark. That Benchmark, it's an

exclusive deal for their most luxurious service. The offer is
only available for a limited time and the Benchmark is
a step above the typical men's haircut. When you walk

a complimentary beer, and then you sit down with your
stylists for a personal consultation. You tell them whether you
want you want to fix up your mullet, if you
got a mullet, your mohawk, your faux hawk, a little
(01:07:37):
line on the side, a little edge up, it doesn't matter.
You're gonna sit down or you're gonna tell them exactly
what you want. The service includes a tailored expert cut
and precision neck shave. Plus you get a relaxing spa experience,
a hot towel wrap, paraffin, hand dip pressure points, scalp
face and hand massage.

Shawn Salisbury Show continues and it no no now, you know,
coming up in a little less than an hour, now,
we're gonna have astros broadcaster Steve Sparks. He will join
the show at eight thirty, as he does every single Monday,
right here on the Sean Salisbury Show. Those astros take
two out of three from the Diamondbacks. Over the weekend,
(01:08:36):
Texans beat the Colts. Dak Prescott signing an extension with
the Cowboys four years, two hundred and forty million dollars,
two and thirty one of that fully guaranteed. Russell Wilson,
he was inactive for the Steelers. The Steelers one, Justin
Fields got the start. Russell Wilson still has an issue
(01:08:59):
with his calv But Russell Wilson being in active, fully dressed,
Sean pads cleats everything.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
Why no idea? Why I don't know he's trying to
get into football mode. Why though, somebody tell me why
he's in full gear? Inactive? You know what inactive means
you're not playing? Why is he in his full path?
I don't know, and we missing something? But I miss
(01:09:32):
is about an active players or two guys get hurt?
Can he play?
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Was that?
Speaker 12 (01:09:35):
What?
Speaker 4 (01:09:35):
Could he actually player? Is we doing that?
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
You know the rule that changed last year? What's the
what's the rule? But he's hurt? Correct and so? And
he was on the injured list and he's inactive? Uh huh?
Full gear? Were you allowed? Are you allowed to play him?
If both quarterbacks? Remember what the brock Purty rule the
forty nine quarterback? Could he play?
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
So?
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
I don't want to dog him too hard if that's
the case. As much as fields runs, I want to
make sure if he's listed on the injury list is inactive.
Why else would he not come out in sweatpants or
Pittsburgh Steeler gear? Why the full uniform? Just google? Can
an inactive player quarterback play? If you play him and
(01:10:22):
the other two guys aren't hurt, the other two guys
can't come in. But can you play? I mean with
that rule, so many rules get skewed during the offseason.
I don't pay attention to him until the season starts.
I don't want to dog him too hard because maybe
every inactive quarterback was in their gear yesterday. Okay, so
that's right, isn't it. So I know you wanted to
(01:10:42):
rip him. It just looks stupid and I'm wondering why.
But Rusty Wilson, he is inactive.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
It was listed as inactive as the Steelers emergency number
three to.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
Go inactive player is different. A wide receiver that's an
active is not playing inactive quarter back. If the other
two guys get hurt, you can put him in the game. Yeah,
so there you go. So I wasn't gonna That's why
I caution. I said, it looks but be careful how
you think about this, because I know that with the
(01:11:13):
rule change, they the forty nine or playoff game two
years ago, and it's like, okay, now you put you
that you guard against. But if he was able to play,
if he was hurt, So here's my here's my only
thing about that. Yeah, if you have him as the
inactive quarterback and he's hurt, you're telling me, if to
go down, you still would have been able to play him, right,
(01:11:36):
So then why is he inactive? Why not play him?
Speaker 12 (01:11:38):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:11:39):
Well, because he'd only be he'd just be under there
to get the center snap and hand it off. Okay,
he's still got to move and push off and go
from the gun. You still got to turn and push
off it. And if you're down, what if he was
down seven points, what if they were down a touchdown?
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
You got to throw it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:11:56):
So you see see the uh see the quandary I'm
in right there. Quandary, Yeah, a little quandary. Yeah, but yeah,
before you onload on Russe Wills, and I think that
it is the rule I'm glad I saved you from
because it was too too convenient to wear his ass out. Yeah,
I'm like to this dude, man.
Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Yeah, this dude being inactive, Like, imagine that that rule
is Like, it'd be so Russell Wilson though.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Oh if anybody was going to do it and probably like,
let's go, guys and not played that. That guy who's
like like the wristbands and he's the guys to the ninth,
let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
He's the guy playing on your varsity football team, senior
just got promoted to divarsity just because he's a senior.
Never plays. He holds the flag first out of the tunnel.
Think Howard, Think how we just asked Russell.
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
Think what he's given us these last year's and he
actually played pretty good and didn't for last year or
like the first year. Do you realize this guy's had
a great career. We look at him now, it's just
like a character, because it would be if it was
if they weren't allowed to. I mean, if they weren't
and he's still dressed because you want to be part
of the team. Russ Wilson might have been the guy
in high school ran through the sign at halftime first.
(01:13:05):
He might have been spread it to it first. That's him.
Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
I love his enthusiasm what it's not fake.
Speaker 4 (01:13:12):
But I was gonna I had to prevent you from
burying him, I mean, unloading on him because it was
too convenient. Yeah, I would have been perfect. So I
figured the rule was damn yeah, damn man. If it
was gonna be a guy from the league who would
do that, it's him. But he needed to in case
something got hurt. Of the guy that runs through the
(01:13:32):
sign at halftime coming out, Oh yeah, there's there's absolutely
no question, goes yeah. Oh he's that guy. Yeah, oh yeah,
printing down, oh yeah, finger up, gets to the end
zone first to pray oh yeah, oh no, there's no
question about it.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
Runs back to the sideline, you know, pumping the crowd up,
waving his hand.
Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
Let's go down by thirty, go down by thirty with
like a never give up now by thirty with like
a minute and thirty to go, and his skill tell
to TeV we got this tay with me. We got
a chance we could score four times.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
In a minute thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:14:04):
I didn't sing yet, boys score we got this bro
Sit down, You're not that's him. I know it is,
But I'm not gonna let you destroy Hible the weird
gear because he had to because oh yes, it was
too perfect. It was too so Russ Wilson. That meme
got sent out.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
I sent it to you guys in our group tags
and I was like, this is so Russell Wilson, but
damn it. But it's a good point though. If he
if he's the emergency quarterback and can in a touchdown,
so what happens? Then why is he not just active?
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
So why?
Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
Yeah, I'll tell you what though, leave your glove on
the mound too long, Mike Tomlin may not let you
back out there on the field.
Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Look at look at the dolphins, like or not. The Dolphins,
the Steelers, they had no business winning that game yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
And they wanted Chris Boswell scored all the police for
him at Mike, isn't that who Mike Tomlin is?
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
Yes, they just find ways to win and hang around
crazy man, no doubt. They just win, you know they
they just take it one play at a time.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Too.
Speaker 4 (01:15:02):
They show up and show out.
Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
Dog.
Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
You know, I can't remember when's the last time you
showed up and showed out? Every day? Brother, every day,
every almost every f and day. Yeah, yeah, almost just
said every f and day. By the way, how about
the how about the first of all? Michigan's not a
top twenty five team? No, sorry to tell you. I
mean maybe they are. Their offense is awful. How are
they going to be? How do you beat Ohio State?
(01:15:26):
We're gonna get the breaks beat off of How are they?
How are they not losing three more? Notre Dame, like
I said, overrated every single year? Well, Notre Dame is
you know the respect I have for them and a
couple of our callers who love the fighting Irish and
I do too. Yeah, even as a trojan, so much respect.
They did what they always do remember at the beginning
here we picked them to go to the playoff. You know,
(01:15:46):
we said, both of us, Yeah, they will find a
way to lose to somebody that they should not lose to. Yeah,
and here we go. And then they may roll off
seven in a row. That and I'm not sure Riley
Leonard's a great thrower. The football brother man alive. We'll
talk about one mentional they are. There's no wet now
they may go on a run. But after that and
go on Northern Illinois for their battle and their coach
(01:16:07):
and the emotion. But I'm telling you, we get one
of those every year, and this one was it Notre
Dame's expense, But Notre Dame gives you a game or
two like this every year, and then you know, I mean,
I'm sure they'll come back and play well, But if
that team's top twelve team in the country, then I ain't.
Then I'm watching a wrong football game. And even worse.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
A and M sucks because they lost that Notre Dame,
Notre Tame team that lost to Northern Northern Illinois.
Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
They got healthy this week, but now the schedule is
going to start to toughen up. As you rolled through
for A and M. Yeah, there's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (01:16:44):
Hey, shout out to Iowa Dames. When was Texas A
and M was just even a worse loss. There's no
doubt it's a worst loss. Let's talk college football next
right here on Sports Talk seven eighty. But that's also
gets you ahead of the storms. Look, there's a lot
of movement in the Gulf of Mexico right now. Looks
like we could have a tropical storm on our hands. If,
(01:17:04):
for whatever reason, it does come here, you know we're
gonna lose power. If the winds get up to what
they did for Hurricane Barrel, which that tropical system is
predicted to get to a hurricane what the category one,
then God forbid it comes our way. Looks like it
might miss us. But if you have a home generator
for Brotherly Love Electric, you don't have to worry about
(01:17:24):
losing the power because that generator flips on boom, You
got everything rolling like it never went out. Storm season
is still here. Brotherly Love Electric has a fully stocked
warehouse and they're ready to go for you getting that
thing installed. They have been servicing in the Houston area
for over ten years. They offer services and generators residential
troubleshooting and repair as well as commercial and industrial electric.
(01:17:46):
So if you already have a home generator and you
need it serviced, Brotherly Love can offer that service as well,
but you need to get yourself an American made Briggs
and Stratton home generator from Brotherly Love Electric. Three four
six seven seven seven three three sevens zero three four
six seven seven seven three three seven zero.
Speaker 4 (01:18:04):
That's the number to get a quote.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
Shortest lead time in the city for that American made
Briggs and Stratton home generator for brother the Love Electric connection.
Speaker 4 (01:18:11):
You can count on.
Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continued. Welcome back to the Sehn
Salisbury Show here on Sports Talk seven. Honey, Sean, Brian
and Connor McGovern here this morning. Film in for tripley.
You will be back with us tomorrow. Astros take two
out of three from the Diamondbacks over the weekend. They
are off today, Texans beat the Colts, Texas beats Michigan,
(01:18:33):
Notre Dame upset by Northern Illinois. Coming up at eight
thirty this morning, we're gonna have Astros broadcaster Steve Sparks
join the show. Justin Verlander got shelld yesterday once again,
I'm sure Shawn will ask him about that. We're gonna
talk to Astros obviously in that eight thirty segment, and
then of course in the nine o'clock hour, continuing to
talk about football, especially with college football. Ut Sean dominated
(01:18:58):
Michigan in the Big House in front of over one
hundred thousand fans. I mean, they kicked their ass well overall.
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Let's look at, uh, the top teams in America right now, Alabama, Georgia, Texas,
Ohio State. Yeah, I'm just using those an example. I mean,
Oregon struggled again. Boise State's a good football team, hung
around with them. Tell you what Arizona, the Arizona and
Arizona State team make an impact. Utah looked okay, Baylor's
(01:19:30):
not very good. Non Utah didn't even play a great game,
and they Baylor still just didn't look something's missing there, right, Yeah,
maybe it's just talent alone. I don't know, but I uh,
you tell me right now if you talk about complete teams,
and this is even with running backs going three or
(01:19:52):
four deep to get to a starter now considering what
they've lost, yeah, injuries, you tell me if there's a better,
more complete team in the kind tree right now then Texas, Yeah,
I mean Georgia, you can Georgia belongs and I'm talking
about that. You've seen this. Tell me they don't look
as complete as Georgia today. If they played on a
neutral site inside a touchdown fase, that's a three point
(01:20:13):
game at least going into it the way they throw it.
And I'm going to tell you what, Quinn yours is
really good in big moments, I mean on the road,
during the regular scene, that big house. They didn't phase
them a bit, no, And they're physical on both sides
of the ball. Their offensive line obviously can move people.
(01:20:36):
You saw Michigan's offensive line little, I mean, and they're
they're just they just can't move the football and they're
not going to move the football against some teams. And
Texas was more physical than them. You know, Michigan's got
good interior people in Texas, good offensive line. As long
as Quinn Ewers stays upright, this is going to be
a really good season. And I think they are focused.
And I had no idea that Steve Sarkis and his
(01:20:58):
wife are going through divorce, and that's I mean, you
know you're whispers, but when you saw the message they
sent and both mutual respect for each other and doing
you know what's right. But I know, I imagine schedules
are just hard man, right, but they just to stay
focused and go so best to his family. I mean,
he's been through some adversity in his past with in
(01:21:19):
his personal life, so hopefully it'll be okay. But he's
got this team playing high octane football and they are
as good as anybody in America right now. And you
can make the case that they can play with anybody
and beat anybody right now because they also know how
to travel. And Sarkesian's got it going on right now.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
Yeah, and then you just kind of look across college football. Obviously,
Georgia dominated Tennessee Tech, Ohio State boat Race, Western Michigan.
Alabama took down South Florida. They put up twenty eight
points in the fourth because it was a fourteen thirteen
game going into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
And just the talent and the physicality wears a team
out eventually. I'm gonna tell you something else now about
who'd you mentioned? Oh in the sec you better not
sleep on that quarterback and that team that can score
to Tennessee. Yeah, Oh yeah, they jumped up, I believe
into the top ten. I'm telling you they can their speed,
they will finesse your ass to death. And that kid's talented.
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
Another another team that you can't sleep actually two other
teams that you can't sleep on, Ole Miss and Connor's
Missouri Tigers.
Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
Well going in. Look what the drink's done for that team?
Yeah they are. They are playing great consistent football. And
who'd you mentioned Ole Miss? Oh? Jackson Dart's pretty good
and he can beat you with his legs and his arm.
That's a team that on the right day gives anybody
in the SEC all they can. Hell, they were my
(01:22:46):
sneaky team to be in the final four this year
if we picked one. I don't know if that'll if
they can sustain it, but I can tell you this
that that is as it's as good at ole Miss
team as we've seen in a minute. They're really good.
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
Jumping up.
Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
Tennessee jumped up seven spots to get to number seven,
Missouri number six, Ole Miss five, Alabama four, Ohio State three,
Texas two, and then Georgia number one.
Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
Go to them again. Georgia SEC. Who's two, Texas SEC
Who's three? Ohio State Big Ten, Alabama SEC, Ole, miss SEC,
Missouri SEC, Tennessee SEC, Penn State Big ten. And they
did not look good. They did not they what they
got loved. There was there was some danger going on
in that football game early on. I mean Bowling Green Man,
(01:23:32):
damn near. Do not disrespect Bowling Green.
Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
Don't do it. I took a live bet on them
because at one point it was like plus five hundred
and they were down by.
Speaker 4 (01:23:42):
Like a point whatever. They hung around ben Man.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
Yeah. Then then you got Oregon, uh number nine, drop
has not played great football yet.
Speaker 4 (01:23:50):
And then Miami number ten. They are closing their will.
They're pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
Man, and man, your USC Trojans getting jumped up to
or bumped up to number eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
There. They pitched a shutout this week. Now, I know
it was Utah State, but I can tell you shoutouts
are good no matter who they're against. They're more physical
they've been in years, and that's gonna be the difference
for them. It's fun to watch September twenty first at
the Big House.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:24:18):
I can tell you right now us he's gonna be
I don't I don't know how Michigan can keep up
with us. If you hit the quarterback, you can. Their
defensive fronts really good. But I can tell you this,
I don't know how they're gonna score because this defense
for us, he can stop them from scoring.
Speaker 3 (01:24:33):
Yeah, they can the way they're playing now, right, we'll see. Right,
Let's continue to talk college football. Colorado dominated by Nebraska.
Schardore Colorado is not good. No, they're not they they're
not there. There's nothing physical about them. Talented, not physical.
Speaker 4 (01:24:48):
Yeah, they're not good.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
Schador Sanders throwing his offensive line under the bus. Let's
talk about it next on Sports Talk seven. And it's
also talk about Classic Chevy Sugarland Classic Chevy Highway six.

Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
Sean Salisbury, NFL.
Speaker 15 (01:25:59):
USC it's longtime friend shown Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Ryan Lima, Go Lobos. This is the Sean Salsbury Show
ATO three here in Houston, Texas. Welcome into the Sean
Salisbury Show and Sports Talk seven nine. You can also
listen to us on the free iHeartRadio app. Sean Salisbury,
Brian Aleemaconne mc govern Astros take two out of three
from the Diamondbacks over the weekend. They are off today
Texans beat the Colts. Dak Prescott signed an extension with
(01:26:24):
the Cowboys four years, two hundred and forty million dollars
two hundred thirty one to that guaranteed. Talking college football,
Nebraska dominates Colorado. Shador Sanders quarterback for Colorado running for
his life. Offensive line not good Colorado just as a whole,
they're just not a good there's not a good football
team for the second year in a row.
Speaker 4 (01:26:45):
They're not a good football so physically gifted on the perimeter,
they're got good speed, they're just not they they're not physical.
They don't protect the passer. And when you don't protect
the passer, he throws the under the bus. Make sure
no mistake about it. Yeah no, and oh man, good
player leadership leaves something to be desired at least when
you do that, you just I don't care if you
(01:27:05):
guys if they can't block anybody. While he's not wrong
in what he said about it's when he said it,
and why he said it, and how he said it
out loud, go talk to those guys in the locker.
Don't throw those big fellows under the bus. And when's
the last time one of them was on a commercial
with him?
Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
Not one.
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
So guess what that means. You do everything you can
to endear yourself to them. I don't mean kiss their
ass and expectations, but you don't need to throw onto
the bus. Because what happens when he throws a pick
when it's a clean pocket. What should you say? Oh
you suck?
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:27:36):
Man? Can you did Ryola throw it to the other team?
I mean, do you want your wide receivers or your
defense to say that about you or your offensive line? Yeah? Now,
a hell of a talent. But I thought he missed
the he missed the mark on what he said after
the game started. Compare it to Nebraska's offensive line. He
didn't get hit. That's not the point, dude. And I
don't care if you're losing by seventy stay your ass
(01:27:59):
out there with your teammates. Yeah, no question, there's inexcusable
unless you're hurt going in the locker room for two
minutes left healthy? Come on, man, he walks under his
own power. Exactly crazy, I don't we don't have to
get listen. Doesn't mean you hate the guy, and you
don't have to. I mean, just as much compliment as
we give him for being a hell of a talent.
He's not above criticism either, even though his last name
(01:28:21):
is Sanders and coach Prime and the rest of it.
And you know, I like Dion, but I can tell
you this that he doesn't get a free haul pass
for me because people are afraid to criticize the Sanders
because it happens to be Dion's kid. Now Shudor Sanders
owed it to his team to stay there, and owed
it to his offensive line to keep that. Throw him
under the but do it in a private room and
go up there and dress him down and let the
(01:28:41):
talk it out in a private meeting. I don't mean
a team meeting. Communicate with him. Maybe you do, because
they're not very good and they are getting up too
many hits. I don't think that we can see it
with our naked eye.
Speaker 9 (01:28:51):
You don't have to.
Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
Matter of fact, you could have reversed it. So they're
trying their ass off, right and jed even though you
know that you're getting pounded and he's tough because he's
get the hell you got hit all over the place
last year. Still still you don't. As a leader, if
you're the CEO of a company, you don't come down
and say, my middle manager suck, My sales team sucks.
Is Apple's team any good? Yeah? Oh, their their sales
(01:29:15):
team made some sales last year. You don't do that. Nope,
you matter of fact, the leader doesn't tell you, he
shows you. Step your ass out in front and take
responsibility even though we know you don't have much time
to throw.
Speaker 3 (01:29:27):
It's really not hard to say, look, man, my guys
are grinding their ass off like we all are. We're
just not playing good football. We have to get better
and leave.
Speaker 9 (01:29:34):
It at that.
Speaker 4 (01:29:34):
Yeah, not they, not them. That's exactly in a in
a very what may have considered a roundabout way, it
was a complete bus toss and you just don't do it.
We can see that Shudor Sanders has no time to
set his feet, so you don't have to validate that,
like captain obvious statement. Matter of fact, do great leaders
do whatever they can to protect their own teammates? Yeah,
(01:29:58):
it's see to me, I think say us and them thing.
There's certain guys. There's the group of the talent guys
that are getting all the commercials doing it at all,
and then there's the other side that well, they don't
live up to our expectations type. But Colorado ain't winning
you know, I games this year.
Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
It's it's one thing to be Travis Hunter and their
best player because he plays offense and defense.
Speaker 4 (01:30:22):
He's the best player on the team and probably is
good all around football players. There is in the country,
but you don't hear from him. I know it's maybe
because he's not the quarterbacks. Still, at the end of
the day, he's one of the best players in college football,
and you don't hear from him. And if his criticism criticism,
do it with your teammates in private.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
And then you just hear you hear, you hear more
from what's the other Sanders kid's name, Shiloh, the one
that plays defense, that runs his mouth.
Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
He walk off the field too. Yeah, I mean, didn't
bull Sanders so and then you got schador like I
just he doesn't. You don't need to do that, right
because we can see you know that thing when he
was with the obvious, and you got to keep pointing
out the best thing to do, no matter what. It's
like a quarterback center exchange. When you're under center, the
center may he's got some big dude to block, and
he may snap it wrong and the ball ends up
(01:31:05):
on the ground in a fumble. Guess who should never
blame it on the center of the quarterback. He should
walk off there and say I gotta do better. He's
got to, even if everybody in the building knows. And
on that sideline knows. The center short snapped him, short
set him, dropped his ass, the ball went on the ground,
and everybody knows the quarterback didn't pull out, Peter pull
out soon. Yeah, it's okay, we see this. You don't
(01:31:26):
need to blame it on the center center snapped. It's
always your fault, right course, it's always your fault.
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
And even though it's not.
Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
Yeah, but that's why you're the quarterback and that's why
you that's why you're in that locker room doing the
stuff that none of us are doing and rallying around.
And to me, leadership is easy when everything's good. Leadership's
hard when it's not. And he missed the opportunity to
praise a team that's getting their ass handed to him
up front. And I'll tell you what if you're gonna
(01:31:53):
if you're gonna question Caleb Williams because he wears all
the stuff, and we're gonna question certain leaders of the past,
and when he comes out, if this is who we
don't you got to ask that question? Absolutely? Is it
gonna bus toss us? Is it is it Shadeur and
the Sanders versus everybody else? I'm not saying, you know,
I do I love Dion. I think what they're doing
at Colorado sometimes is misguided, and I think that we
(01:32:15):
he knows he didn't get you know what his accountability is. Yeah,
he's right, he's getting his asking. He's not wrong that
he's getting hit. You don't need to tell the world
that we see it and you're it's actually an assaulting
our tounchs. We know what kind of player you are,
and we know it's not physical with your offensive line
can't block anybody. But damn, I sure want to go
to work the next day hoping that next week they
(01:32:35):
get better, because right now, if your quarterback's tossing you,
who's protecting you?
Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
Yeah, this is this is how it sounded Shador Sanders
talking about his offensive line after the game.
Speaker 20 (01:32:47):
I mean, how many times, how many times good touts?
There was a like, of course, of course, whenever you're
able to run the ball consistently, and whenever you're able
to then opens up the past, you know, But it's
just like you got to understand like what your team
good at. So it's like, why would we keep running
the ball if okay, we are we out there and
(01:33:09):
we get in a situation where's it must get and
we won't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
Nah, I'd rather we're gonna go down.
Speaker 20 (01:33:14):
I'd rather go down swinging, honestly, because I know I
could throw the best punches.
Speaker 4 (01:33:20):
It doesn't even really make sense on what he says,
especially when you're out there for fifty eight minutes instead
of sixty. That's the time, Like I said, I've always said,
when you're losing and getting your ass kicked, you know
when that's the time to be a leader is to encourage, right.
The best time to criticize is when things are going
perfect right, because nobody's sensitive to it. Right now, you
think those big fellows are walking out the field saying,
(01:33:41):
I'm so glad we got our ass kicked by Nebraska.
I am so glad that my quarterback. I'm trying my
ass off to protect him, and I didn't do a
good job. Very I'm not as physical as talent. In
your own mind, you're thinking of thinking, I know one
dude that's got my back. It's that dude.
Speaker 3 (01:33:55):
Oh he doesn't. You go right to it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:59):
And you see how quickly he deflected it with Colorado.
He went right to Nebraska and Riola. You ain't playing Riola,
You're playing Nebraska's defense, right, let your defense handle them.
I just to me, with all the compliments we give
the extremely gifted Shador Sanders and a first round talent,
the leadership yesterday was about was a no draft pick
(01:34:20):
first no draft pick talent with what he did. Now,
of course he's going to be a high draft pick,
but he missed an opportunity to pounce at the worst.
You know, you got your ass handed to you against
a rival and they took it personal last year because
of Matt rule for whatever reason, and you had a
chance to listen, guess who you're not going to play
with Nebraska's offensive line. You got to go back to
(01:34:42):
work with the same. There ain't no miracle frigging cure,
especially when let me tell you what about physicality, which
you don't fix. You're either physical or you're not. And
Colorado has got as much physicality as as a seventh
grade team right now. I hate to say it, but
it's true perimeter talent, but they're just not You don't
fixed physicality in the middle of a season. So guess
(01:35:02):
what Shador Sanders is gonna have to do? Deal with
it every friggin week, and it ain't gonna get any easier.
So again, again, tell me, tell me again, why that's
when you got to salvage that moment. So those guys
next week come out and say, I'm gonna run through
a wall for this cat. He defended us when we
didn't do squat for him. We let him get his
ass handed to him. And how that is. That's unacceptable
(01:35:25):
as an offensive line. But what's equally unacceptable is approaching
the guys who are down there doing all the dirty work,
not some of it, all of it. Sometimes you take
the yell and get your ass handed to you by
somebody else. But that's the time when the good ones
meeting leaders. And at the worst of times, when you
don't want to say anything nice about anybody, is the
time those I don't care if you talk about Travis
(01:35:46):
Hunter once in yesterday's Saturday's game. I do care about
the five guys that don't even just have your physicality
in mind, have your lifeline in mind when it comes
to your career.
Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:35:56):
No, if he thought that Nebras because beating was the
worst he's taken. Stay tuned, Yeah, good luck, stay tuned.
Seven seven ninety is the number to join. Will continue
to take your calls John Biscuit Ray, you're up next.
As we roll along right here on the Shaun Salisbury Show,

it's the uh side effects or collateral damage from a hurricane.

get Country Boys Roofing out there to look at it.
And if you're gonna wait till the storm hits, well,
you don't want it set there in a leak and
put a bucket in your house. Get somebody out there.

Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
And we're v The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. I see
the back, how.
Speaker 9 (01:37:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:37:41):
Letting it out?
Speaker 3 (01:37:42):
Heym how?
Speaker 12 (01:37:46):
How?
Speaker 5 (01:37:49):
And that's a fact.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
You know about a stack dog?
Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
How you know?
Speaker 4 (01:37:56):
You just say? Hell, that's no cap on a stack dog?
For real?
Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
What is wrong with you?
Speaker 4 (01:38:06):
You asked me about a stack about a stack dog?
Speaker 3 (01:38:14):
Cody?
Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
What did Tyree say to her?
Speaker 8 (01:38:16):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:38:17):
Let bygones be bygones?
Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
Dog?
Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
You feel me?
Speaker 12 (01:38:20):
Dog?
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
Didn't know you feel me?
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
Dogs at bab I'm going to work. You don't say.
Speaker 21 (01:38:28):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:38:29):
Coming up next segment, ASTROS broadcaster Steve Sparks is going
to join the show at eight thirty. Let's take some
phone call seven one three two one two five seven. Biscuit,
good morning.
Speaker 9 (01:38:40):
Man, you're playing my theme music.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
My brother there it is Motown.
Speaker 9 (01:38:46):
Yes, sir, hey shot forget my takeover the Texas and Shine,
I'm not I'm not gonna kill the young fella man. Shine.
He got his bill wrong, man, and I'm surprised to
let him back in the game when he got hit
that time and he me he put his hands to
his helmet and yeah, man, you know you hear frustration, Sean,
That's what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Still got it though. I'm with you, Biscuit, one hundred
percent with you. As I said, he got his ass
handed to him. They're not doing a good enough job
all those things that he didn't lie. There's no question
you didn't lie. You still can't say it publicly. You
just can't.
Speaker 3 (01:39:21):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (01:39:21):
You can't ring, you can't bust toss your team. I
don't care if they gave up forty sacks. We all
can see it. That's the time. Even though it's hard
to do. You just the frustration kicks in.
Speaker 3 (01:39:31):
But you got it.
Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
You you just you got to leave those big five
fellas out of it. You just let somebody else criticize them.
You just can't as their leader. You just can't do it.
Speaker 9 (01:39:40):
I'm not I'm not disagreeing with you. What I'm saying
is it's best for him to go through this now
in my opinion, you know, because adversity is, like you said,
what you're talking about is how do you handle adversity?
You'll go through it now and when you get the NFL,
and if he can, you know, because that's what happened
to some guy.
Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
Man.
Speaker 9 (01:39:56):
They get out there and everything is fine and dan
and then all of a sudden you get to the
big league and you get some adversity.
Speaker 4 (01:40:02):
And now what you'll be prepared to take an ass
whooping on Sundays because he's taking plenty of you on
one right now. That's for damn.
Speaker 9 (01:40:10):
The one thing shying. It feels like a broken record shot.
But the one thing.
Speaker 22 (01:40:14):
All the games I'm watching the Colorado.
Speaker 9 (01:40:17):
The Texans, the Cowboys, filled i mean all the games
over the weekend. Man, if you team, if you got
the big boys up front, and you can move some
people around and you can run the ball.
Speaker 10 (01:40:29):
That's where football's.
Speaker 9 (01:40:30):
Going, man, all this four men wide and all, yeah,
that's fine and Danny, but if you can't block and
you can't tackle, you forget about it. And ut man,
they gonna be hard outside. You're not kidding, and that
offer is a line.
Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
Boy.
Speaker 4 (01:40:44):
They be moving some people, You are not kidding, man.
And they got the field that we know. They can
throw it and they're finesse, but they are physical too,
which is something over the last FW year's Sarkus reinstated
and they got it. You're they hard out hell. They'll
give Georgie which is all they can handle right now,
I can.
Speaker 7 (01:41:01):
Tell you that.
Speaker 9 (01:41:03):
And that number nine, I think he's like the fifth
running back Jesus. I mean sorry that he just stacked
it up over there, man, he just stacked it up.
Speaker 4 (01:41:12):
Agreed.
Speaker 10 (01:41:14):
And mixing for the.
Speaker 9 (01:41:15):
Texans when they made that tabe boy, because they tried
to get Saquana couldn't game. And then all of a
sudden they you know, last minute, man, that that might
say they season shot that mixing man, that's gonna make
things difference.
Speaker 4 (01:41:27):
I told you with Danil Hunter and all the things,
Stefan Diggs and all that. My number one signing for
them this offseason was him because of the band with
he creates. And he also instills a sense of physicality
that you're talking about. Validates the run game of physicality
because he ain't He's not gonna sit there and toe tap.
That dude is coming. See he is patient, but when
(01:41:48):
he hits the ground, he's bringing two hundred and twenty
pounds a load. Man, So you better, you better as
a defender be ready for it. And as an offensive lineman.
They love guys like that. You know what offensive lineman
want to do. They want to they want a run block.
Oh yeah, that's because because you're taking somebody's soul away
from him instead of in past blocking. So you're right
mixing monster full grown man.
Speaker 3 (01:42:09):
Ye number twenty four.
Speaker 9 (01:42:11):
The coat that dude is stealing nice to man because
he got ran.
Speaker 4 (01:42:16):
Oh yeah, he's like, I better start playing on the
balls at my feet instead of my heels because they're
coming downhill. There's no doubt. You ain't lying, no doubt, biscuit.
Great shot. Okay, right, appreciate it. Tell you what our
defense found out a little bit at the goal line too.
How you better tackle Anthony Richardson at the goal line too. Yeah,
(01:42:37):
the hitting at with that guy. They hit him about
the two and a half yard line and he said,
excuse me, Yeah, hop on, I'm your jungle gym. I'm
walking you into the end zone. Yeah, phenomenal. Let's talk
to John John what's happening.
Speaker 10 (01:42:51):
Hey, guys, good morning.
Speaker 2 (01:42:52):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 7 (01:42:53):
The sdor Sanders thing really made me appreciate the level
of polish that CJ Stroud has. If y'all remember the
early weeks of last season, our line was struggling terribly
and CJ went out in front of that media every
week we won. We two week three talking about how
hard that line was working to come together and that
he could do a better job of getting rid of
(01:43:15):
the ball to help protect them. It just it just
showed how well you handled that situation. And then you
got your door and like you said, we don't hate
the kid, but he's got some growing to do on
a leadership level, because those kinds of comments can is
at the end of the world, no, but it can
make cavities in the teeth of your locker room that
can cause long long term effects, and it just it
made me really appreciate CJ and how well and polished
(01:43:38):
he handled that almost exact same situation.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
It is.
Speaker 7 (01:43:41):
I can't wait for McNair pay that dude's sixty five
million a season.
Speaker 9 (01:43:44):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:43:45):
Well, he's going to get it on its way, I
could say, you, and that's such a great joint. I
don't know how we even add to that is to
handle it when he could have very easily taken his frustration.
But he protected those guys even though we all knew, Man,
the guy's getting hammered. That's the difference in charity that
hopefully Shader Sanders will get. His Dad's been in the
league around football long enough that I'm sure his dad
(01:44:05):
probably lets him know because his dad's a pretty good
rule keeper with setting up front in class. You know,
he we really got old school, some old school stuff
in him, but no doubt how good he is. But
he hit such a great point on the stroud part
of how to handle that part of it, which goes
part and parcel to being a leader of a football team.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Right and at that position, here's no question, Ray, I
got about forty five seconds for you, brother, what's on
your mind?
Speaker 22 (01:44:31):
Okay, real quick, I'm going to disagree with you, Sean.
As far as Deon Sanders, when he was in the league,
he didn't like to tackle. He just wanted to cover people.
Joe Mixon would come around that in he'd flatten Deon
Sanders like a Pancall wait a minute.
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
You're disagreeing with me on what When did I talk
about don Sanders tackles and Deon Sanders couldn't tackle you
in your living room, but he could cover everybody. So
what what part of talk about? Yeah? Go ahead, where
do we disagree on?
Speaker 22 (01:44:57):
That he is a shador is a direct reflection of
how Deon Sanders was when he was in the league.
He talked a lot, he ran his mouth a lot.
But when I was one of the few that thought
he was overrated, he didn't like to tackle, which is
part of any position of the defense. And now Shudor
is just well, I'm gonna throw everybody else under the
(01:45:20):
bus except me. It's always somebody else.
Speaker 4 (01:45:23):
Yeah, I don't think we disagree on that because I
stated that that's not good leads With Dion. I could
tell you this having played against him on Sundays, he
wasn't an overrated football player, horrible tackler, But if we're
looking at he wasn't Rod Woodson when it came to tackling.
But he a pretty good football player. I don't agree
with a lot of the things he did, but Dion.
My point was, like, Dion's been around the league long
(01:45:45):
enough to know how you're supposed to handle those situations.
That's all I said. I didn't say anything about his
tackling or the rest of it. Shudur sound Shudor Sanders
is a talented player. Shudoor Sanders needs to recognize that
that throwing your linemen under the bus will get you
an apple and a roadmap and sent down the road
if he continues to happen, so better now than later. Yes,
(01:46:05):
and that.
Speaker 22 (01:46:06):
Wouldn't that kind of comment. Would not be a first
round draft pick on my team.
Speaker 4 (01:46:11):
Well, I can tell you this. I know this about
front office guys. Ray, thanks for the call. I know
this about front offices. They'll draft anybody that they think
they can get better with on the field. Whether we
think I'm with you right now, you say that the
kind of guy I went out in front of my team,
But how many times didn't we hear that about Stroud,
not not the same way that he handled it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:28):
But they said lack of leadership. That's what that was
one of the low IQ because of whatever whatever tests. Yeah,
and you know what the Texas did, They did their
own du diligence. Realize, no, no, that's not him. So
on a surface, what happened yesterday was or Saturday was inexcusable.
Speaker 4 (01:46:42):
He can't do that. Yeah, but when I say inexcuseble,
you can fix it. Probably apologize to the guys whatever
it is, Go buy him a watch, you got enough
nil money, take care of him, tell him, but you
just got to handle a little better. It doesn't make
he's a bad kid. It doesn't mean he's a bad
football player. But right there, it showed bad leadership. And
the guy here as was as was talked about, showed
you something that everybody should aspire to do. Handle as
(01:47:06):
a young quarterback. Handle those guys kids. Now, those guys
will do anything for CJ. Straud, Right, will they do
anything for Schuder Sanders after Saturday? But his sugar Sanders
is not wrong. They're not very good and knowing certain terms,
but he is wrong by telling the world that we
all saw it. Yeah, you don't throw your teammates on
us in a media session ever. Ever, God, so I
don't disagree. And as far as Dion Deon couldn't tackle,
(01:47:28):
couldn't tackle your local Pop Warner guy, nor did he not?
You didn't want to, but he wasn't overrated as a
football player. That guy was a game changer. Yeah, talking
about a game changer.
Speaker 3 (01:47:37):

go here. What's wrong with Justin Verlander? From your vantage point.
Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Well, it's not velocity.
Speaker 18 (01:49:25):
I mean last night's velocity was up a couple of
months four hours, so that was encouraging. And for me,
you know he talked about it was more about his
off speed stuff, his curved his slider. He didn't feel
like he commanded that well, so probably guys were just
setting on the fastball. For me, it was more fastball
location because of the way the fastball profiled. But what
(01:49:46):
I mean is like usually his fastball has really true
ride on that pitch where it looks like it hops,
and I thought last night a lot of those fastballs
tailed so he couldn't get inside to the LEFTI peved
Smith got him a couple of times. I think fastball's
trying to get inside. It bleeds back over the middle
of the plate toward the barrel of the lefties. I
thought was problematic. But when the velocity is there, I
(01:50:09):
think there's a fix there. And if anybody can fix something,
I don't want to be too fluffy about this, but
I think that was some encouraging signs with his velocity
ticked up about two or three miles per hour.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Again, yeah, Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:50:20):
Aside from that velocity, we you know, fans, we all
react quy, we need jerk. You see it every day
instant And we're looking at a guy in the Lifetime
Achievement Award. He has been so good and you trust
him because he knows him, then he'll go to work.
But that being said, the trend has been struggling for
the less what three or four starts, So that if
this trend continues, and I know this is tough, but
(01:50:41):
I got to ask it, how can he be one
of the rotation guys once we get to the postseason.
If this is the if these are the results we see.
Speaker 18 (01:50:49):
Well there's still some time to go. So that's all
I'm going to say about. That is justin Verlanders. So
if anybody can fix.
Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
It, he can.
Speaker 18 (01:50:56):
And all I'm going to say about is his velocity
was back up. I think he can fix it. I
think just you know, just probably a couple of tweaks
here and there to get things back under control. And
if he doesn't, then you deal with it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
At the end of the road. So I think the
main thing right now is the Astros have a few weeks.
Speaker 18 (01:51:14):
He's got three or four starts left, see if he
can make some adjustments, because when he's at his.
Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
Best, you need him.
Speaker 4 (01:51:19):
Oh boy. And that the true Steve Sparks for his
weekly visit, Steve. If I were to tell you in
spring training that this was going to happen, what's happened
with all the injuries this year, the Verlander struggles, now,
all those things with the pitching staff, and I said
they're going to be four and a half games in
front of first place, and Kyle Tucker out, we can
include that as well, and Bregman struggles early. And I
said their four and a half game in front of
(01:51:40):
first place and that the pitching staff has been a strength.
Would you have told me I was nuts.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:51:45):
I wouldn't have thought they would have been able to
score enough runs.
Speaker 18 (01:51:48):
I didn't see, you know, the arrogant He's coming out
of the woodwork, you know, to come and be as
good as he's been. We'll see how he bounces back
from a rough one and since against Oakland on Tuesday.
So uh, but just overall, the pitching stats been unbelievable.
I thought it was a great pickup to get Fakucci
uh and the ash Sean.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
You look at what they've done against the contenders.
Speaker 18 (01:52:12):
They've played very well against the hopeful so far UH
all around Baseball, National League, American League, They've got favorable
records against the majority of all those contenders for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:52:24):
Steve this, I mean watching this team and not only
at the plate, but on the mound and seeing that
the way they've played against good teams. Now as we
go to the stretch run, the teams like Oakland come
to town. Are the is the hitting where you wanted
to be where we are today? Pitching seems like it
is for the most part, is the hitting where you
want it to be.
Speaker 18 (01:52:45):
Well, it was the first time you got the big
four in the lineup for the first time in three months.
You know, since June third and Tucker went down, you
weren't able to get you know, your best hitters, al
toov Bregman, Alvareza, Tucker and the same lineup together in
a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:52:58):
So probably going to deal with some things from time
to time. I'm encouraged by his heart outs.
Speaker 18 (01:53:06):
Jordan and Altuve are swinging the bats great, and Tucker
probably within a week will start to have a lot
better timing. So I don't think it could come at
a better time. You know, you might have some of
these guys pretty well rested going into the playoffs, including Sean.
I'll say this, it's been a weird stretch for the
Astros this last week, since since we talked anyway, but
(01:53:27):
they've had a lot of lopsided games, you know, whether
it be the wrong way or not, but they haven't.
Speaker 2 (01:53:32):
Been able to haven't had to overuse a bray You
and Hater and Taylor Scott.
Speaker 18 (01:53:38):
Impressing, and these guys, they haven't pitched that much at
all this month. So I think that's going to bode
well going down the stretch, being able to push these
guys when they need to.
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
Oakland's no cupcake. These guys. I think they have the.
Speaker 18 (01:53:53):
Third best record since July first, and I mean, how
did that happen? But they can bang, they can hit homers,
they can score a lot of runs. So the Astros
are gonna have to slug the beat them. Two of
three would be great against.
Speaker 4 (01:54:04):
Them, no doubt.
Speaker 12 (01:54:05):
Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:54:05):
With Kyle Tucker, do you see and you mentioned the timing,
which will come with more at bats, But is there
anything in his swing or in his does it look
like he's got the torque in the lower half explosion
that you need for it just to be timing and
nothing but more reps.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
I think it's more timing than anything else.
Speaker 18 (01:54:21):
I think he's putting a lot of pressure and it
force down on that leg to to give you encouragement
about where he's gonna end up. I think it's just timing,
just be on time for the fastball and just everything else.
He's given you a lengthy at bats where sometimes a
lot of these astros try to ambush hitters. Kyle's going
to see some pitches, and I think that's nice in
(01:54:43):
the middle of your lineup to be able to get
a more blend offensively. But other than that, I mean,
you feel encouraged by Yiner, you know, and things are
starting to stretch out, McCormick starting to swing the bat well.
If you can get him to anywhere close to where
he was the previous two years, that makes the line
(01:55:04):
up pretty lengthy.
Speaker 4 (01:55:05):
Steve sparks a couple more minutes here for his weekly
Monday visit on Sports Talk seven ninety Steve, has Kakuchi
exceeded your expectations?
Speaker 18 (01:55:14):
Yeah, the slider's better than I thought it was, and
he's tweaked it. He's getting two and a half more
inches drop on that pitch to where he could throw
it to both sides of the plate and get a
lot of swinging miss It's.
Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
Hard like a slider, and it breaks more like a
curve ball, and that's lethal.
Speaker 18 (01:55:30):
That's lethal against righty's and lefties, and that's why he's
getting so many strikeouts.
Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
So, man, I love that acquisition. I don't think you know,
I know they overpaid, and Dana will tell you, like, yeah,
we had.
Speaker 18 (01:55:43):
To overbid, and we had to outbid a lot of
teams to get the guy that we wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
But they got the right guy.
Speaker 18 (01:55:50):
That was great evaluation and the astros are perfect and
his game started, all right, Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:55:56):
If ver let's go back to you. If Verlander isn't Verlander,
which we hope he is, there's no question about it.
But the what if part of it? Are they good
enough to win a World Series? If he doesn't put
I'm just let's just say he's a bullpen guy good
enough to win a World Series with their staff. They are,
aren't they?
Speaker 2 (01:56:12):
I do.
Speaker 18 (01:56:13):
Yeah, To be honest with you, there's a lot of
teams that are going to be in the playoffs that
have warts just like the Astros.
Speaker 12 (01:56:22):
Do you know?
Speaker 18 (01:56:23):
You can look around and you don't have to be
a rocket scientist to figure out that there's some weak
points in this Astros lineup, in the bullpen, rotating whatever
you want to say. But I would say there's probably
less with the Astros than most teams. And I think
the Astros have the pedigree to play very well in October,
(01:56:43):
and I would expect a nice run, not to say
that they're anywhere close to the finish line. Yet, There's
still nineteen games left and Seattle Mariners are playing better baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
They've got to take care of business. Win the two
out of three out of against Oakland.
Speaker 18 (01:56:58):
I would feel like doing a back handspring as well
as they've been playing, So you got to take care
of business. But but right now, with what you got,
and you look at Brown and Valdez as you're one
two punch. There's not many better in all of baseball
right now than those two, and I think you got
to feel great about that going into any series.
Speaker 3 (01:57:18):
Steve.
Speaker 4 (01:57:18):
I'll leave with this is fromber. I mean, we've had
some incredible stretches by him, you know, in different seasons.
Have you seen him pitch better than he's pitching now.
Speaker 18 (01:57:29):
He's pitching as good as he's ever pitched, you know,
And I think he's very confident. But I mean, I
just love the he's simplified. He's gone to the three
pitches that I think are his best, and I think
they're all that he needs. He can tell you that
a fastball's coming and you're still going to hit it
into a double play. It's just that turbulent when it
gets into the hitting zone. You just it's really hard
(01:57:51):
to square up. We've seen it for years. And when
he's on his game and he's got that pitch, I
don't care who it is, you know, righty, lefty, great,
low ball, I.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
Don't care who it is. He's gonna make you pound
it into the dirt. And I love that about him.
Speaker 18 (01:58:04):
His curveball, it's one of the best swinging miss pitches
in baseball. And I think when he's pitching as confidently
as he is, I think everybody feels it that he's
a hard mattep for anybody.
Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
We're in for one hell of a run these last
nineteen games and in the postseason. It's going to be
a blast to watch and three good games coming up
with Oakland. Can't wait to watch it. And we always
appreciate your phenomenal insight for us. Brother, Thank you, you
got Sean, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (01:58:30):
Body you bet.
Speaker 4 (01:58:30):
Appreciate Steve sparks great from er Valdez. I mean you
talk about a workhorse. He looks like is dominant a
left handers is in baseball right now, he's pitching that good. Yeah,
Hunter Brown ain't exactly chopped liver. No, he's pretty no question,
won two punch. Yeah, you know why I do eat liver,
But it's not just regular liver. Yeah, liver in front potatoes.
Oh yeah, growth both. You don't cook liver anywhere. But
(01:58:55):
you're throwing in that old sky skillet. Put a little
flour around it, bred it a little bit redded. Oh
you dude, you go all over it now, Okay, that's
old school. What you know about that? Your pops and
mom knew all about that. I guarant asked tee it
you ain't you ain't there, you haven't bought it, and
yet has smothered nions, no little ketchup on it. Oh
come on, now, son does Dale the pain So it's
(01:59:18):
not there, but probably not. It's probably you probably tried
it though, I hope so, because you might paint the
wall with vomit if you if if you eat the
wrong liver. But listen, sometimes you just gotta suck it. Okay.
So it's not the most flavorful then all right, but
it was inexpensive growing up had another one that is flavorful.
But what crushes it is sort of Pro Painters and
my guy Dale, who brought me into the family. And
(01:59:39):
I'm a big believer guys, and you hear people, you know,
influencers and all over. My favorite is when the influencer
endorsed and they've never used the product. I'm a customer first,
and that's why sort of Pro Painters has been nothing
but phenomenal for me. They did my house to perfection
and they can do yours too. They're efficient, they're local,
(02:00:00):
they're timely, they do their job the way you'd want
it done, and like they do their own home. I
have nothing but great things to say about the official
painting partner at the Houston Astros each and every sort
of pro business is individually owned and operated and you
can go to certapro dot com for the free estimate.
Pop on in there and get it done. It is
sort of with a C. It's expensive to own a
(02:00:21):
home in a business. Don't you want it done right?
I'd love the di y. I'm big on it overboard sometimes,
but then when I watch them do it, I say,
let me save myself the hassle have at it and
nobody's done it better. The very Best Again, official painting
partner of the Houston Astros. It's sort of with the
sea sort of pro paintings. That's painting happy.
Speaker 8 (02:00:42):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:00:43):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:00:46):
Are you kid man?
Speaker 8 (02:00:47):
Just get just?
Speaker 4 (02:00:47):
I want you to sit back and just enjoy this
beat for a second.
Speaker 9 (02:00:57):
What is wrong?
Speaker 3 (02:01:02):
Be you got to be read because you yelled just
a little love.
Speaker 9 (02:01:12):
You need you?
Speaker 4 (02:01:16):
I really need you now. I just want to read.
I just it's got to be read. You just want
to be the ad lib guy in the background. Oh
what a banger? Huh motown Monday Baby? He liked this banger? Yeah?
Really it'll get you.
Speaker 1 (02:01:35):
Feel me done?
Speaker 3 (02:01:38):
Just wrapped up with Steve's fark sash for the badcaster.
If you miss it'll be up on our block after
the show at Sports seven ninety dot com.
Speaker 4 (02:01:45):
Justin Verlin and Sean.
Speaker 2 (02:01:46):
What we can do?
Speaker 4 (02:01:48):
As Steve said, let's let it play out four and
a half in front. He's gonna you're keeping him in
the rotation right now. Oh yeah, he's gonna get his
three or four more starts, see if he can fix it.
It's not like the vlow was it ninety two up
velocity which is encouraging movement, not so much location, not
so much, but the fact that the velocity's up gives
(02:02:08):
you hope that if there's a guy who manages his
the way he does his game and how to get right,
been doing it for what the better part of twenty
years now as a pitcher, a guy if it can't listen,
if it's going to get fixed, it'll be him. Can
you imagine having to trust somebody else who hasn't had
to fix things in their past? So I'm riding with
(02:02:29):
Steve Sparks on this today. He would not be in
the postseason starting rotation. No, but guess what we're not
doing today? Just like when people say, hey, if the
playoffs started today. Guess what they don't. So three more
weeks or three or four more starts, and now let's
see where that gets up to six innings, and then
he's up and around eighty five ninety ninety five pitches
and he's winning games and keeping the ball in the
(02:02:49):
ballpark all those things. Then then you've got a decision
to make. Right now, you're making the decision easy. But
Steve's exactly right. What has told you in the past
that this guy can't fix it? Gonna find out because
as we look at the result now, if the playoffs
started tomorrow, you can't.
Speaker 10 (02:03:06):
No, you just can't.
Speaker 4 (02:03:07):
They're too precious. But he's earned the regular season for
us to see these next three or four starts. How
it turns it now, if it's if it's the same way,
just got to chalk it up. Wasn't that it wasn't
his time this year? If it's not and he and
he fixes it, then you got decisions to make when
it comes to your first three or four. Guys, you
(02:03:28):
don't have any decision to make on the first two
or three, to be honest with you. Kuchi's he's running,
he's running three, and he's running hot and he ain't
far behind the other two. Those are your first three.
You know that for a fact. It has to be
Oh yeah, Now Verlander goes and does his thing and
the movement and what Steve says in the next three
or four starts, if he fixes it, then we sit
(02:03:50):
back and say, Okay, what a shock he's done what
he's always done, get it right.
Speaker 3 (02:03:54):
Three innings last night, eight hits, eight earned runs. Yeah,
wasn't a good say it was. It was Aaron Getty like.
But when we Sayngetty because we we make fun of
it because there's no in it. But I'm saying all
the time, joking around. But with the way rag Getty
went about his business and night, it looked so far
out of what Justin.
Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
Verlanders used to doing.
Speaker 3 (02:04:10):
I mean, he got chill. It's been a tough three
or four starts for him. Yeah, he's got over a
ninety RA in his last four starts. Seven seven ninety,
isn't i'mber to join Robert.
Speaker 19 (02:04:21):
Good morning, Hey, good morning guys. I haven't talked to
you guys a little while, so it's nice to talk
to you all again. Hey, I just have a quick
question on the scheduling. I was looking at the Astros.
I know they have like nineteen games or something, but
I was looking at the last twelve games. That really
caught my attention. So they have two series against division
opponents and then they got the Yankees and the Cubs.
Speaker 18 (02:04:44):
In the middle of the What do you think they
need to go in order to lock.
Speaker 5 (02:04:47):
This division up?
Speaker 9 (02:04:49):
And Uh?
Speaker 19 (02:04:50):
I was gonna say something about the Texans.
Speaker 2 (02:04:52):
I forgot though.
Speaker 19 (02:04:53):
Man, oh well, why do you pay a guy like
Dak Prescott?
Speaker 2 (02:04:58):
Uh so much money?
Speaker 19 (02:05:00):
But he had his track record in the playoffs is
just I mean just awful.
Speaker 4 (02:05:05):
Hey, Robert, let me ask you a question. Let's reverse this.
What Uh even if Dak played great in the postseason,
with the way they've played all around, would you would
you think that they still lose in January? I mean
he had now he's listened him cousins, I can Josh Allen,
Lamar Jackson, I can roll through a bunch of great
players that in the postseason have not lived up to it,
(02:05:26):
There's no doubt, and Prescott has not. He was second
the MVP voting last year. They didn't do much to
help him out. I mean, while it may have been
an overpay. We know it's timing because his contract, he's
gonna he's gonna get bypassed. When when Stroud goes, he's
gonna blow by him, somebody else will blow by him.
So the timing of it. But I always ask, Okay,
if not Prescott, then who. If you're gonna run, If
(02:05:49):
you're gonna run Prescott out, then who. Yeah, there's no
other option.
Speaker 2 (02:05:53):
So I get it.
Speaker 4 (02:05:54):
And that's where you're in a position of then you
get to bar then you get the negotiations leaned towards
you because you say, Okay, do we pay him two
hundred and forty two hundred and thirty million guaranteed or
do we sit here and hope that somebody had You know,
I want to go with Prescott's a good player. He is,
He's a good player. Something's got to hit for not
just him, but for the Cowboys in January as well.
(02:06:15):
So I get why he got paid. I don't have
a problem with the wallet. And the production is going
to have to match in the postseason, no doubt. But
that being said, everybody wants to replace people. But who
you play Trey Lance, what's the other kid? Cooper Cup?
I mean not Cooper, Cup Cooper, they got no shot.
He gives you your best shot to win. So overpaid probably,
(02:06:37):
But I can tell you this. We can roll down
all kinds of quarterbacks who are overpaid and haven't done
enough in January. So that's why, that's why they do it,
because they believe that, Well, there you go, so but
so I get your point, and he does have to
rise in January. But he's pretty good man. He's a
pretty good player. He's not a hack. So let's see
if this year is different. They sure played well against
(02:06:59):
Cleveland or going to find out if they can do
that same thing, sustain it throughout the year, and then
sometime in January win a playoff game or two. But
great point by you, and we appreciate it. As far
as what do they got to go in nineteen games
to win the division? They've got three games over five
hundred to win the division. They've got uh.
Speaker 3 (02:07:15):
Oh, let's get to the top of the hour, okay,
because you got to tell us more about men's t clinic.
We can talk more about this Astros schedule at nine o'clock.
Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
YEP.
Speaker 4 (02:07:21):
Appreciate it. Great to hear from our callers and great
to talk about Men's Tea Clinic and Brian and I
have talked about it. Guys, I'm just going to say
one thing. If you're struggling with what might be brain
fog or what might be energy, or might be sexual
wellness in the bedroom, whatever it is, and you're thinking,
I don't know what it is. I'm getting more sleep
or I'm trying to I'm not as active, so I
(02:07:43):
shouldn't be I should be rested.
Speaker 12 (02:07:45):
Is that it?
Speaker 4 (02:07:46):
Have you gone to Men's TA Clinic, won of five
convenient locations with that optimization wellness team and drawn a
little blood, got the results by the end of the
day and said, oh, my testosterone is a hundred points low. Boy,
what a novel concept. So if you're sitting around struggling
or sluggish, what are you waiting on? You know, if
you need eight hundred horse power, Men's T Clinic can help.
(02:08:06):
It's non invasive. You're out of there in a hurry,
and now they can start to normalize and get out
of your low gear. So if you're struggling with sexual wellness,
but remember while we talk about that a lot, this
is full body wellness and who doesn't want to wake
up with energy? Through the roof, more productive, less irritable,
and more to offer in and out of bed. Who
(02:08:27):
doesn't want that? I imagine you do. I imagine you
want it. So why wait till twenty twenty five to
get right?
Speaker 2 (02:08:33):
That's right?
Speaker 4 (02:08:34):
The opportunities right here, Men's T Clinic ten years, they've
been doing this, changing lives. You can be one of them.
Get out of lower gear, get that eight hundred horsepower
and get the Men's TA Clinic, Men'stclinic dot com, Men'stclinic
dot com or nine seven two go Men's Tea.
Speaker 1 (02:08:50):
Sulfrey, Houston.
Speaker 2 (02:08:55):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (02:08:56):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 15 (02:09:00):
To usc truths, longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:09:02):

Speaker 2 (02:09:22):
I know?
Speaker 3 (02:09:23):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (02:09:25):
That'd be great? It's Brian whom you know what?
Speaker 5 (02:09:27):
Shawn?
Speaker 4 (02:09:28):
Who have I? You can call me whatever you want,
just don't call me late. If I call you Bryan,
what will you call me?
Speaker 2 (02:09:32):
Miss?
Speaker 3 (02:09:33):
The South bearn.
Speaker 4 (02:09:37):
I really good, love it. It's already nine o'clock. Yeah, man,
Connor's in the mix on the hits. Connor is here. Yeah, okay,

Speaker 4 (02:11:04):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (02:11:04):
Why not? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:11:06):
Connor?
Speaker 4 (02:11:06):
How was that wake up call this morning? I was
all right, it was a little rough. I went to
a concert last night, so that didn't help. Did you
go see Chingy?
Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
I did not know.
Speaker 4 (02:11:16):
Did you go see maybe Shoboozy not Shobboozy? Do you
know that the kid Larroy oh Man one of my favorites.
Speaker 3 (02:11:23):
Yeah, wants to go see him? Where did he perform?
Buy you Music Center? Where is that downtown? Is that okay?
Speaker 4 (02:11:30):
What about kid? Is a kid Cutty? Is that is
that day?
Speaker 2 (02:11:34):
Night?
Speaker 4 (02:11:34):
Yeah? What about him? Not sure if you performed last night?
Speaker 9 (02:11:37):
He did?
Speaker 4 (02:11:37):
I think he was here in the city, But you
went straight to Chingy.
Speaker 3 (02:11:43):
I'm like, where's the ninety jails?
Speaker 4 (02:11:47):
You didn't hesitate? Did you go see Chingy? They told
you saw Chris Staple, and I would say, did Chicky play?
You know who was at the William's Pavilion this past Friday?
Probably Lany Laney Wilson and Chingey. No we're collabing. No, no, hey, dude,
post Malone's collabing with with all of you. It doesn't
matter if he'll collab with you and I Yeah, why not? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:12:09):
Yeah, Imagine Dragon? He did Imagine Dragon? He says you,
has he ever, Connor have been to the Imagine Dragons concert?
Asking Connor, have you ever been to Imagine Dragons concert?
Speaker 4 (02:12:18):
I'm not fault for that. He's heard. Oh what a
great concert that is so so connored? What time did
you wake up? What time the along Goethe? This morning?
Speaker 3 (02:12:30):
About four fifteen, four o'clock? Yeah, actually four fifteen ext
Oh my gosh, rough, isn't it. Yeah, it's uh.
Speaker 4 (02:12:37):
If I was on the schedule everyday, it'd be a
little bit easier. But though, yeah, it's that routine, right, Yeah,
this this is might throw a wrench in like tomorrow Wednesday,
just uh, catch back up, right, It'll be all right, though,
you got you got triple duty today. Yeah, I'll be
I'll be in the studio till through the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 3 (02:12:52):
Damn way, Matt, Matt Thomas and Ross actually have a
show today, I know they Oh wow, they have a
day off Thursday though, of course, Shaker.
Speaker 4 (02:13:00):
Yeah, no, shock there. Maybe they'll bring you lunch today.
He's earned been here all day long. Man, I wish Hey,
so yeah, I'm just I was just curious and I
was watching The Mechanic last night. The Mechanic resurreck, you
know with h I love Jason Statham. Yeah, do you
know who we're speaking of?
Speaker 12 (02:13:14):
Who?
Speaker 4 (02:13:14):
Who's the collab guy? Wasn't post Malone in that? Damn right?
The second one?
Speaker 2 (02:13:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:13:18):
Yeah, oh you're talking.
Speaker 9 (02:13:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:13:19):
What do you think about his acting? I watched both
of them on, but I was watching it was just on.
It's phenomenal.
Speaker 7 (02:13:23):
Man.
Speaker 4 (02:13:24):
What do you think about Postpon's acting career? It's all right? Yeah.
What do you think about his collab career? Not badly versatile?
The collabs are good, different genres. He did the Grand
Ole Opry. Phenomenal, man. Dude, he rips heaters like and
it's nobody's business. Oh hey can't. Hey, my man's got
to stop it.
Speaker 3 (02:13:41):
Yeah, he's a I'm talking like he'll smoke a heater
and then he'll smoke a heater before the first heater
is even done.
Speaker 4 (02:13:48):
Kind of reminds me remember Dennis Leary, the comedian who'd smoke. Yeah,
you can kind of like that. I mean it's grit
after grit. Yeah, man, it's unbelievable. I want him to
packs the marvel round, you know what. Talented collab guy
though he is a good clap really really is really is.
So just get that. I'm just looking for Chingy. I
wait for that concert. Okay, let me see if I
can find hang on what he still performing? What do
(02:14:13):
you mean are they still performing?
Speaker 2 (02:14:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:14:16):
Chinge's not performing anymore?
Speaker 3 (02:14:17):
Man done?
Speaker 4 (02:14:18):
No concert travel? Hell's Chinging? Now? Chingy is there? What's
the what's his real name? The lead singer? Who the
I mean it's not just one dude, right is it?
Chingy is forty four? Really?
Speaker 3 (02:14:30):
Yes, he's forty four himself, right Yeah? And his in
his real name is Howard Earl Bailey Junior.
Speaker 4 (02:14:36):
Okay, so but it did so it's it's just kind
of Chingy in his in his peeps, I mean ching
the boys. Yeah, I like chance, it's just Chinging. That's
there you go. So he's forty four. Forty four, I
realized he was that been around. I mean, he's a pist.
Season well, there's no doubt about it that I did know.
Your birthday is on the tenth, right, March ninth, But
thanks for asking, because yours is on the fifteenth, his
his is March ninth, so it is mine. Yeah, that's
(02:14:58):
what I thought. Man Chaney are tied mouse nut.
Speaker 3 (02:15:00):
That's why you keep saying, because you guys are on
the same wavelengths exactly right, Pisces.
Speaker 4 (02:15:05):
When he makes a comeback tour on the on the
travel tour, I'll be right there, upfront and personal with him.
You probably couldn't name one Chingy song, right, I couldn't
name it if I heard it? Right, Yeah, I'm but
just like name the title of it? No, could you there?
Speaker 8 (02:15:16):
It is?
Speaker 12 (02:15:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:15:18):
Right there? Oh oh yeah it's right there? Not there there?
Oh no, let me get after it. You are are
that's are we allowed to play a cut during the segment.
He'll just have to edit it out there you go.
That's the pod. Yeah, all right, I love Chingy. Do
it now and ask for forgiveness later, right, little bit
(02:15:40):
better beg forgiveness or ask ask permission or beg forgiveness?
Speaker 2 (02:15:43):
Beg?
Speaker 4 (02:15:44):
What does it beg? Steal and borrow and borrow, cheat
and steel? Yeah, better to ask forgiveness and permission is
what you were looking for? Yeah, there you go. Is
that a quote? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:15:53):
Okay, if it is and it is now.
Speaker 4 (02:15:54):
Yeah, well yeah, this definitely is now.
Speaker 3 (02:15:57):
Seven one three two one two five seven on Conrad James,
what's happening this morning?
Speaker 12 (02:16:02):
Oh?
Speaker 23 (02:16:02):
Yes, I want to talk a little college football since
I'm a Cougar fan and.
Speaker 4 (02:16:11):
Prefaces. The game wasn't televised so for me on my.
Speaker 23 (02:16:17):
Television, so I had to get all my information from
YouTube and watch the game there.
Speaker 3 (02:16:25):
But you know, we could have won that ou game.
Speaker 4 (02:16:30):
It was there for the taking.
Speaker 23 (02:16:32):
But I have an issue, I don't know if you
all watched the game with some of the offensive plays
that we're running, especially in the last half, we're at
the thirty yard line and we do a lateral to
the right and lateral to the left rather than going
over the middle and try and score a touchdown. Because
(02:16:54):
you see throughout the game they were having success with that.
So the offensive calling I have a problem with. But
I saw also on the upside, a vast improvement from
the first week. So I'll listen to your thoughts about that.
About the Cougars, okay.
Speaker 3 (02:17:14):
Thank you, Conrad James. Yeah, they fell to OU sixteen twelve.
Brett Venable, the head coach OU, after the games and
said it twice. We did not deserve to win that game.
He said, we deserve to lose. Donovan Smith played much
better twenty four and sixty yards with a touchdown and
an interception. But they on the ground sewan fifty eight
(02:17:35):
rushing yards.
Speaker 4 (02:17:35):
That's it. They did not run the ball to save
their life. Won't be enough. I can tell you this.
See the Forest of the Trees. Willie Fritz will change
this program. Yeah, and Smith played better, and Oklahoma found out.
They messed around and found out and should have lost
the football game.
Speaker 2 (02:17:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:17:50):
Now, and I saw a bunch of different highlights. I
did not watch the game. It was on at the
time when I was watching another guy. I did not
see game from start to finish. It was like what
six thirty say. It was a night game. Yeah, well,
but I was immersed in a few other games. I
did not see the game. I'm trusting Conrad James from
what he talked about, since he saw the whole thing.
(02:18:11):
I saw some highlights of it. Yeah, but they gave
and keeping an eye on the score, they gave Oklahoma
all they could handle. And Willie Fritz will change. That's
what you got to see, even though they lost. And
I know people, I don't believe in moral victories, but
for a team still trying to build it, the moral
victory is going to turn into a victory sooner than later.
It seemed like.
Speaker 3 (02:18:28):
So I watched quite a bit of the game, so
it seemed like probably because I was betting on it,
But that's neither here nor there. It just seemed like
during some of the drives offensively for U of h It,
things weren't smooth, like with the play calling, some plays
didn't really make sense. And for me, like just looking
just from a pure box score standpoint, thirty five rushes
(02:18:50):
for fifty eight yards, it was almost like they were
just continuing to force and force the run game when
it just wasn't working.
Speaker 4 (02:18:56):
Thirty five carries for fifty eight yards is less than
it's a little over a yard of carry. It's a
little over a yard and a half. One point seven. Yeah,
that's what I'm saying, you're not even get two yards
of carry. Yeah, so it looks like they just forcing
it and forcing it and just was not working tried
to They're looking for that one big break and with it,
here's another reason why you do that, Brian, close game,
(02:19:17):
you think, okay, if we can just bust one and
push this ball and take care of it and get
it in. It's such a low scoring game that we
got a chance to win. But you obviously you've got
to get to the point where you trust your personnel
to be able to make a play, a throw or
a decision in a close game. What's not running. It
was square peg, round hole when it came to the
run game. And Venables is a really good as the
(02:19:39):
head coach, but he's a hell of a defensive coordinator.
That's his mindset, right. Yeah, but you're not gonna win
many games in the big twelve score in sixteen and
you're not gonna win many scoring twelve. Oklahoma got away
with one. But Willi Fritz, if you see it, Willy
Fritz is going to things will be different around here.
And you saw the physicality that they at least defensively,
(02:19:59):
they hung in there. In this football game.
Speaker 3 (02:20:00):
Yeah, defensively, they only gave up two points in the
second half, and that was courtesy of a safety by
oh you on you of age. So that's it was
fourteen twelve going into the fourth quarter, and then they
got the two oh you got the two points on
a safety and made it sixteen twelve. It was just
a honestly all the way around ugly ugly game. Very
just looking from the highlights.
Speaker 4 (02:20:20):
I saw. The score says it. But the highlights I saw,
Like I said, I didn't watch it from start to finish. Yeah,
just a really really ugly game.
Speaker 3 (02:20:26):
All right, let's get back to talking about these Houston
Texans and that offensive line, and Joe Mixon will discuss
an next right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety.

You're listening to the Shawan Salisbury Show. You're on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Shawn Salisbury, Brian a Lima, Connor McGovern.
Astros take two out of three from the Diamondbacks over
the weekend. They are off today, open up a series
tomorrow night at min and May Park against the Oakland Athletics.
Speaker 4 (02:22:19):
Texans beat the Colts.
Speaker 3 (02:22:20):
University of Texas takes down Michigan Notre Dame upset by
Northern Illinois College football. Seven two five seven ninety is
the number to join. Let's get to Drew Drew. Good morning, Hey,
good morning guys. Love your show. Just want to let
you know that.
Speaker 4 (02:22:37):
But the biggest thing about it is is, uh, I look.
Speaker 3 (02:22:39):
At two things.
Speaker 4 (02:22:41):
The crucial thing Collins.
Speaker 9 (02:22:43):
Catching that catch at the end of the game and
the time of possession of the ball.
Speaker 4 (02:22:49):
Texans had it for forty minutes and the Colts only
added for twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:22:52):
That's pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:22:53):
I would let y'all talik and I'll get off. Thank you, Drew. Yeah,
you look at that time of possession Seawan. I mean
you're always spot on.
Speaker 4 (02:23:01):
Give him less possessions. Damn, it's a moral of the story.
And you saw the big playability by Anthony Richardson yesterday.
If he makes a few throws with wide open receivers
down the field this it may end up being a
different game. They let some guys sneak through there had
a chance, but that back end is going to be
really good. I love the physicality and when you control it, listen,
(02:23:25):
and I stood by the Joe Mixon was going to
be a top five hell I might be cheating him
out of that when we said it before camp started,
when they got him one of the great offseason pickups.
And if this is who you get and now he's
like a rusher buck forty or whatever every single game.
But I can tell you this, he is going to
tote that ball a lot. He'll pick up in protection.
He's a three down back, phenomenal get and just him
(02:23:48):
alone adds this sense of physicality. Even if the line
didn't have a physical nature, he makes you feel more
physical and they did yesterday. I needed to see I
mean not that they had impressed me, but needed to
see them dominate the line scrimmage in the run game,
and they the run was the main reason they took it.
Now the stars, the stars showed up, Digs, Nico Collins,
(02:24:09):
Stroud made some plays on defense, and Joe Mixon and
then what they do. You protect the ball, you get
clutched first downs, You run the ball even when it's
a passing situation and still get first downs. And then
you make a throw the throw that would have fit
in a coffee can at the end of a football
game to secure victory. Come on, now that they did
that right, and they didn't play their best football yesterday,
(02:24:30):
stay tuned. Defense is even gonna get better. But Anthony
Richardson is going to pose a problem in the NFL
for the next few year, especially if he gets more
precise and accurate and certain throws. But he is dynamic.
That dig route he threw for a touchdown, or that
you know, the one across the middy stuck in That
was filthy throw. They got him down inside that he's
a Did they score on that or got inside there?
It got close?
Speaker 12 (02:24:51):
Right?
Speaker 4 (02:24:51):
Did he go out the back door and score on it?
He might have? Did he go score on the dig route?
But regardless, Richardson is a dynamic talent. But that physical
run game was the best in the NFL yesterday.
Speaker 3 (02:25:05):
Forty minutes compared to twenty minutes Texans. The Colts time
of possession.
Speaker 4 (02:25:08):
Think about how many pent double think about how many possessions?
That is, Yeah, and I got news for you. The
Browns are not that the Browns are a lot of
people think they're a playoff team. Watson just looks like
a guy, and I know they were out with a
couple of their offensive linemen and the Texans at the Browns.
The Texans made sure with the Colts. I'm sitting here
watching it on TV thinking of Watson and the Cowboys.
(02:25:29):
But with the Texans taking care of the Colts yesterday,
the culture of physical front there were people that went
into this game that thought the Colts front was better
than the Texans. I was on a show yesterday they
said the advantage for the Colts is their front seven.
Speaker 2 (02:25:41):
Right.
Speaker 4 (02:25:41):
I'm so caught up in the Watson thing because of
watching they watched the house they got because Dallas dominated,
Michael Parsons was otherworldly like mixing was. But the Colts
front seven is really good and they also run the
ball good. And what they do to Jonathan Taylor, they
shut them down, damn right. They just gave up too
many big, broken plays and some on schedule plays that
(02:26:02):
in the secondary they're going to get better at. And
it couldn't happen to a better guy. When the Cleveland
Brown situation, I.
Speaker 3 (02:26:08):
Know it did because at that was you dude, he
was airmail and balls all over the place. Like there
was a ball that was thrown down the left sideline
that was like eight ten feet out of bounds and
he had a wide open receiver.
Speaker 4 (02:26:18):
Look what a pass rush and then that does to
make a guy throw it? And we got a quarterback
here that's poised beyond belief. But I really liked their
front seven. So it was two good front sevens, and
you know, in in an offensive line, our offensive line
and Joe Mixon dominated their front seven yesterday. Yeah, they
were far more physical. But Richardson's ability makes this going
to be a fun division with the quarterback play moving forward.
(02:26:41):
And there is no better quarterback in this division than
the guy here. Right, it's c J. Strout already, Yeah,
no question about it. It's talk to Kenneth.
Speaker 10 (02:26:47):
Kenneth, Good morning, Sean, h I got a word at Mixing.
I mean, yeah, I'm I'm gonna be one there. You
were correct and uh uh speaking of that car to Ron,
I started following that. But but tell me, man, I'll
(02:27:10):
see a lack of displ little lady hit targeted and
and they seem like they don't have no discipline. Man,
what what? I don't understand this, man. It is really
a lit down.
Speaker 2 (02:27:21):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (02:27:22):
And I'm seeing it pretty much the same thing coming
out of these other fans that there, man, because uh,
when your leadership is like this, I think this is
gonna They're going down to toob man. But you don't
like the quarterback and you I know.
Speaker 2 (02:27:38):
You know that.
Speaker 10 (02:27:39):
But I remember like with car Collins, man when he
they turned on him, it was old.
Speaker 4 (02:27:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (02:27:47):
Yeah, I just wanted to come in on that.
Speaker 4 (02:27:50):
And we appreciated Kenneth and thank you. Yeah, I you know,
you know, I was singing mix AND's praises and I
thought that the rest in the and and not playing
in the preseason, that he'd be fully freshman to go.
I don't need him in the preseason and he validated that.
But a great point by you. As far as Colorado
the physicality, it will come unwound. If this continues, it will,
(02:28:11):
And you're right when an offensive line that I was
on a team, and I think I've told you this before, Brown,
I was on a team. I'll leave it out and
I won't say the quarterback. I was on a team
that and I didn't even gonna tell you the level.
But I was on a team that the quarterback had
a tendency to if a ball was thrown or intercept
or hit, walk off the field with the shoulder looking
(02:28:33):
at his thumb. You know that that tod to make
sure everybody knew that really wasn't him. And a great
guy and a good player. But take a look at
some of the tape when he got sacked or hit
with the offensive line, what a normal offensive lineman would
they do when they rally around a guy when even
when he's playing crappy, spread to him, pick him up.
I was on a team where they didn't pick him up.
Speaker 3 (02:28:54):
Jesus.
Speaker 4 (02:28:55):
It was hard if they were strolling around but didn't
make it overall. Now you say, well, they should still do,
but they got to the point where they felt at
times disrespected. Right Once you start that, it's it's tough. Now,
Sanders is a good play, hopefully during the practice week.
He lets them know in the past and now that
he did that, that isn't me guy's frustration, So they know.
(02:29:16):
But the last, the last group you want to lose,
even if they're not playing well, is those dudes, because
they that that did that offensive line continuity and that
offensive line fraternity may be as loyal as any fraternity
there is. Now, I'm not making a big deal over this.
They've got a lot of problems and it ain't Sudure
(02:29:37):
Sanders throwing the ball, but leadership may permeate through there.
They're gonna have to get better if they want to
even compete at all in the Big twelve. Yeah, they
got they got some their work cut out from that that.
There's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (02:29:47):
There's no question about that. All right, Seven one, three, two, five,
seven ninety is the number to join. Got some guys on, hold,
I want to talk about these Texans. We'll get to
you fellas next. Uh right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:29:57):
THEN'ST Clinic, men'st Clinic dot Com at a lower gear.
Stop the nonsense of waiting. That's we procrastinate on everything.
But would you procrastinate if you had a check coming
in the mail and he needed to deposit it. No,
you'd go because you've got to cover your bills. You
want to go get your finances right and maybe want
to go out and get yourself take a celebrated dinner.
(02:30:18):
But you're putting that in right, are you? Are you?
When some comes out or there's a new drop on music,
or somebody's got an opportunity to go to a game
and the tickets there and you got him if you

Tea without for the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, What am
I going to Sean Salisbury show here on Sports Talk?
Seven hinety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety is the number the joints get back out to
the phone lines talking Texans.
Speaker 4 (02:31:29):
We'll start with Larry, what's happening?
Speaker 12 (02:31:31):
Larry?
Speaker 9 (02:31:33):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:31:33):
Be Leema's son? How y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 4 (02:31:36):
Mane all great?
Speaker 9 (02:31:37):
Man?
Speaker 4 (02:31:37):
Victory Monday?
Speaker 5 (02:31:38):
My man, hey man, look here I know it.
Speaker 9 (02:31:41):
Man.
Speaker 12 (02:31:41):
It's a beautiful day in the eighth man. And uh,
just just after what we saw yesterday, Man, we got
a lot to talk about, so I'll get to it
real quick, real quick. On that Colorado thing that the
last caller was talking about, that same thing happening up
in Cleveland with Desaun Watson when the offensive lineman didn't
try to help him up or he tried to hlping
up and they didn't want his hand. Hey, man, when
(02:32:03):
it goes bad, it goes bad quickly, man. And at
some point when you lose them board and in the trenches,
it's gonna be a long life for you in that
football organization.
Speaker 4 (02:32:12):
Man.
Speaker 12 (02:32:12):
So I don't know if Colorado just they're like new shoes. Man.
Speaker 3 (02:32:16):
It fades, man.
Speaker 12 (02:32:17):
Once you get a scratch on them. And when you
get a scratch on him, you might as well go
buy your new pair, because the fans gonna eventually get
rid of you.
Speaker 21 (02:32:24):
Man.
Speaker 12 (02:32:24):
So that's what's going on up there in Colorado. But look, Son,
you talked about something with them Texans real quick that
I talked about yesterday. The physicality of the way they
played football yesterday. That is grown man football. When you
can run the football, when they thinking you need to
pass the football, like any thought that we was gonna
(02:32:46):
just be passing all game or whatever. Joe Mixing bust
them boys, and how he was finishing off runs. That's
the physicality that we've been missing in a town. That
kind of balance where you know you gotta trigger man
and you gotta running back. That's gonna just destroy you.
I saw Joe Mixon hit the hole on a couple
of plays and dip his shoulder into them Dv's man,
(02:33:07):
and they did not want to tackle anymore in.
Speaker 8 (02:33:09):
That fourth quarter.
Speaker 9 (02:33:10):
Man.
Speaker 12 (02:33:10):
Look, we've been saying that they've had some great acquisitions
with Joe and with Stephn and you got Nico making
a count of catches that he's making an Indy that
makes us laugh at them like t Y Hilton used
to do us when he would play the Texas. This
is gonna be a fun season shown because here's the
thing about it. That offensive line played well yesterday with
(02:33:33):
Ken Young Green looking like he actually belongs in the
National Football League, and the fact that Indy was triple
team and Will Anderson yesterday and him and Daniel Hunter
played the game exactly the way that Miko drew it
up so that his inside boys can go and put
some hits on Anthony Richardson. Sue's gonna be fun watching
AR fifteen try to get some wins against my boys.
(02:33:53):
But as long as we got number seven putting up
one hundred and fifteen quarterback rating and hitting Nico on
the sideline taking stuff like that, I am anxiously awaiting
whenever we decide to book them tickets to the super
Bowl in New Orleans. Man, because this is gonna be
a fun squad man. And I'm gonna tell you, man,
my Yeady was four yesterday laughing at talking about we
(02:34:14):
weren't gonna win an Indy and all.
Speaker 4 (02:34:16):
He's exactly right physical and it's set such a different
tone for your season. Was there a more physical team
in the NFL yesterday? Nopey on running the offensively? No,
there sure wasn't. And and those and I'm telling you
what they're walking into the meeting today not only happy
when you bury somebody for that, It's like in boxing,
if you flail away and hit somebody in the face
(02:34:38):
and knock him out, it's like, give me a rematch, man,
not a lucky throw. He made a couple of great throws.
Can you sustain that? I'll tell you what is sustainable
when you do it? Like I said, why you can't
teach teams that aren't physical to be physical during a season?
Guess what you can't. You can't take out of a
team that is physical, physicality and that. And then when
you boxing somebody, that guy who keeps punching you in
(02:34:59):
the rib but he's capable of knocking you out with
one swing to the face. That's who they've become by
adding mixing and and just look at the attitude difference
up front in the run game. They know they just
they don't have to hold hold the hole. He'll be
patient and once all is open, his big ass is
getting through it. Loved it, loved it. Larry's right. I'm
telling okay, who's dominant in the American in the AFC.
(02:35:24):
I'm talking about one weekend. You look around that show
me the landscape. Kansas City's really good. Yeah, Buffalo's resilient.
I just don't think they can sustain this because Alan
can't keep this pace up. Of all the hits he
takes and now he plays and he's a phenomenal skill set.
Baltimore is Derek Henry gonna be that guy? He's a
downhill guy? Is he gonna be?
Speaker 3 (02:35:43):
You start to look.
Speaker 4 (02:35:44):
Around the AFC Miami, they're not more physical than this
team to great team speed. So I'll simply ask whine
out the Texans as this goes on. Got to be lucky,
got to be healthy. A long way from it. But
if we're just judging by one week you'll take that
offensive they're push at the line of the screen.
Speaker 3 (02:36:00):
You talk about a new line of scrimmage. They did
Chargers random football really well. Carries one hundred and thirty
five yards on the ground. Yeah, so there are a
couple of big runs on ten carries, right, Yeah, with
that being obviously gashing through that here's the thing runs.
But you knew that was going to be the case
with Charge talked about that far ball. Oh yeah, no question.
And we'll see how Uh, we'll see how the Jets
play tonight taking on the forty nine.
Speaker 4 (02:36:21):
Ers, so on the road in San Francisco. Correct, Yeah,
it uh, two pretty damn good teams and pass I
mean you could you can say that they should that
they both could be around and mid I mean forty
nine ers. Yes, if the Jets and Rogers are healthy
and they stay healthier, they got playmakers. It's real that
they could be an AFC East contender. Yeah, it really is.
(02:36:41):
Let's talk to Mike. Good morning, Mike, Hey you guys,
how you doing this morning? Good buddy?
Speaker 2 (02:36:46):
Hey, just real quick?
Speaker 9 (02:36:47):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:36:49):
On the Texans, I mean, man, a whole lot of
good yesterday.
Speaker 24 (02:36:52):
Let's just not lie, I mean everything, everything that we
saw from the running game and CJ and and uh,
you know, our ally is received that he has to
pick from the throw to and a lot of good
don't don't get me wrong, but if if you had
to critique something that maybe concerns you a little bit,
and you can tell me if I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (02:37:11):
I mean, a lot of big plays over the top
on on our defense.
Speaker 8 (02:37:14):
Man.
Speaker 24 (02:37:14):
I mean we, as you guys already stated, we had
double the time of possession in the football game and
and and won by you know, a marginal amount, and
that's because of the big plays over the top. I
mean it seems like every time he dropped. I mean,
he's a great player, don't get me wrong, but is
that is that a concern maybe moving forward? And obviously
(02:37:36):
the penalties, I know that's just a part of the
you know, being the first game and working out the kinks,
but it seems like we had a lot of penalties
as well.
Speaker 4 (02:37:42):
Yeah they can listen. Yeah, great point, Mike. The first off,
you in order to be where you want to go,
you get by it. Sometimes you can't continue to penalize
yourself because you'll run into a team that has one
of those days that the Texans had yesterday. Offensively, can
throw it and run it and then you're in for one.
And they made some big plays. So yes, penalties have you.
Just the team that is the best and protects the
(02:38:04):
ball and doesn't penalize themselves will be in position at
the end of the year, regardless who that is, they
just will. But I can tell you another thing is
that was the biggest weakness. Yes, they got to get
a little better protecting the quarter and they will because
they were really good at it last year. They'll be
better this year protecting the quarterback. But on defense, that
was the thing we opened the show with today. First
(02:38:25):
fifteen minutes of they gave up too many big plays
on schedule and off a dig route that runs out
the back door, the throw that got behind the secondary
that make some big plays, but there was too many
chunk plays, explosives that you don't want to give up
and that you can't give up. And there was two
more that Richardson just flat ass missed. And what a
(02:38:46):
talent he is. If he hits those, we may be
looking at a different result. But the gifts don't matter.
They took care of their business when necessary and limited.
Think about if they had the football ten more minutes
if it was thirty thirty forty twenty limit. But it
had a pretty explosive team on their possessions, which was
huge right yesterday. Yeah, and you control the line of scrimmage.
Seven one, three, two, two, five, seven to ninety is
(02:39:08):
the number to join.
Speaker 15 (02:39:10):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:39:10):
Let's get to break and we will continue to take
your calls to end the show. Continue to talk about
these Houston Technants. How did we go Ryan's feel after
win one of the season in week one?
Speaker 4 (02:39:18):
That's next.
Speaker 3 (02:39:19):

seven ninety final segment on a Monday morning on Sports
Talk seven and you can also listen to us on
the free iHeartRadio app Sewn Salisbury, brian O, Limaconnormackover sitting
in today, TRIPLEY, Gonna be back with us tomorrow. Astros
(02:40:46):
take two out of three from the Diamondbacks. They're off today.
Texans beat the Colts, ut taking down Michigan Notre Dame
upset by Northern Illinois seven seven nineties' never to join.
Speaker 4 (02:40:57):
Great stuff today too, Connor, thank you for taking time.
Appreciate it, man, no doubt about it. And by the way,
Notre Dame they they Notre Dame, they sure did, didn't
they They're overrated them and what a what a horrible
loss for them and Northern Illinois.
Speaker 3 (02:41:12):
Good on you, their head coach crying man good loved it.
Good for I love that man got.
Speaker 4 (02:41:18):
Cares and you know what, him pointing out that people
have stayed when they could have left.
Speaker 2 (02:41:22):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (02:41:22):
It's also a really bad look for texas Ana. Yeah,
on the thing, But you know what, what's worse texas
A and M's lost to Notre Dame and Notre Dames
win more impressive or Notre Dame's lost in Northern Illinois
were more harsh. It's the loss, Yes, it is definitely.
Speaker 3 (02:41:39):
You don't want.
Speaker 4 (02:41:39):
You don't want more than one of those.
Speaker 18 (02:41:41):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (02:41:42):
It won't be the last time, no, well, I and
I tell you what, It's not gonna be the last
time Michigan loses either, because their offense can't score on
anybody right now. No, oh, I sure can't brag, good morning.
Speaker 21 (02:41:55):
Hey, I love Mixing. Man, that that just changes the
old thing, the whole everything. You could have a bad
team you got Mixing running the ball. Oh my god,
that just blew me away. Yesterday he looked like I
never seen him play like that with the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (02:42:13):
He's just like like a ball of steel on wheels.
Speaker 21 (02:42:18):
But the one native and I don't want it to
be too big in thereative. But when it came to halftime,
you can't leave three points. Somebody's got to step up.
The coach, your quarterback, somebody's either going to call time outs,
they hold on. There's something you know they let they
(02:42:39):
could have lost.
Speaker 19 (02:42:40):
If you think about it, by then, that.
Speaker 2 (02:42:43):
Three points could have been the difference.
Speaker 4 (02:42:46):
They didn't know the rule, and you gotta know it.
That's exactly they'll know it now, right, you know, not
getting instead of lineup for a field goal, using time
out and doing what you gotta do, let's the clock
run out. And you're right, that could backfire in their
face at some point. Great point bradon about Mixing. I
wonder why people are I saw Joe Mixon do this
at Cincinnati. Yeah, and Brad's right. The toughness of him
(02:43:07):
gives you like, wow, it's even more than your thought.
But why didn't people think? What is Joe Mixon not
showing people in Cincinnati? He's been durable. I don't know,
he's been physically catch the ball. I don't know why
this surprise. And he's got a quarterback like Joe Burrow
who can deliver it from the pocket and get him
the football. I don't know what's not to like about.
But and I'm not saying Brad doesn't. But I don't
(02:43:27):
know if we expected it in the first game to
be this physical, but I knew we were getting a player.
Speaker 9 (02:43:32):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:43:33):
So looking at Joe Mixon's career fourteen, I'm gonna go
through twenty his whole career fourteen fourteen, sixteen six that
was in twenty twenty because of the COVID season. Yep,
uh whatever he had going on that season. But anyway,
sixteen fourteen, seventeen durable for the most part.
Speaker 4 (02:43:48):
For a guy who runs, he doesn't He ain't stepping
out of bounds. He's coming to greet your ass. And
the production this offense is perfect for him, perfect for him,
and you don't have to substitute him on third down
because he's one of the better receiving backs in the league.
Speaker 3 (02:44:05):
Over fifty percent of his career he's had over a
thousand yard rushing more than fifty percent closer to sixty
five to seventy percent of.
Speaker 4 (02:44:13):
Tell any of the guys the guy can play. And
yesterday was a great example of one another step that
the Texans had to take in the offseason and then
apply it and make it instrumental in how you went
in the fall. And for one game against a team
that's not exactly chopped Liver in the front seven, they
(02:44:33):
pushed the ball on him and moved the pile and
move created a new line of scrimmage on their side
of the ball, which we haven't seen here very often
in the last few years.
Speaker 2 (02:44:42):
A back.
Speaker 4 (02:44:42):
It's not just him they open holes, but they also
Now there's this confidence that says, we don't need to
do it long we did, and and he's gonna find
the open hole because he's got great vision, because he's
been in a system like this in Cincinnati, and man,
when he decides to get north and south, he is
putting his foot in the and you better come with
the with the full suit of armor, because that dude
(02:45:04):
is gonna thump your ass and I love him. I'm
gonna ride with it, and I'm gonna stick with it,
regardless that he was going to be one of the
five best pickups in the NFL in the offseason. And
I'm sticking with it, especially for what this team had
to have and they got it and they needed it.
You bet, damn right, bet. And a coordinator that trusts
it and runs with it, it doesn't bail on it
(02:45:25):
at all? Right, Michael and the Heights. What's going on?
Speaker 24 (02:45:28):
Fellas Fellows fellaws?
Speaker 8 (02:45:30):
Hey man at all the years watching the Texians, the
Textims that I know would have never have won that game, right,
they just they do. They pounded the football and they
ran it down their throat even though they gave up
two big plays the Texans that with Peyton Manning on
that team, on the Colt team, never ever we we'ld
have won that game, especially in Indianapolis. But Hey, on
(02:45:52):
a side note, Sean had all your all the money
you made and all your travels. Have you ever been
to a Safari? I booked a trip. I'm going to Kenya.
You have done a Safari? No?
Speaker 4 (02:46:01):
You know what that's number? Oh safari? No I haven't.
I haven't been to Somari.
Speaker 3 (02:46:05):
But can you.
Speaker 4 (02:46:10):
You're not going to be able to get that in
on us because we already got you.
Speaker 3 (02:46:15):
But I will tell you.
Speaker 4 (02:46:16):
I will tell you this and in truth without it
being on these nuts. Is one of my top bucket
list goals. Is a is a two week safari in
uh in Africa?
Speaker 7 (02:46:28):
I do.
Speaker 4 (02:46:29):
It is the top of my bucket list, but it
ain't on these nuts. I'll tell you that's a nice try.
You got us once and never again.
Speaker 12 (02:46:35):
No.
Speaker 8 (02:46:35):
I actually did work with a guy that was from
Kenya and that's what inspired But yeah, you guys got
me this time. But I'm cooking something. I'm waiting in
the shadows. I'm going to strike whenever you least expect it.
Speaker 2 (02:46:45):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:46:45):
Anyway, you got us once, it won't happen again. We're
good pupils.
Speaker 3 (02:46:49):
Okay, good luck, good luck.
Speaker 2 (02:46:52):
I love it.
Speaker 22 (02:46:52):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (02:46:53):
But hey, man, that Texans they look good.
Speaker 8 (02:46:55):
Like I said, man, don't you think Anthony Richardson is
just going to get hurt in like five games? I mean,
they guy took some major shots and he's just but
you know, he's a big dude, but still like.
Speaker 3 (02:47:05):
He the sack.
Speaker 8 (02:47:06):
I forgot who sacked them, but they slammed him into
the ground, and.
Speaker 4 (02:47:13):
Yeah, crazy, that's a big dude. Yeah, Michael, thank you
for the call. He is a a very physical guy.
And you know what, I hope he doesn't get hurt.
I want to see the best of him.
Speaker 12 (02:47:23):
I do.
Speaker 4 (02:47:23):
Yeah, yeah, but like it. But you can only I mean,
the hits start to add up.
Speaker 5 (02:47:28):
The boy.
Speaker 4 (02:47
