This is the Sewan Salisbury show.
Speaker 5 (00:22):
NFL trade deadline today, MLB free agency flying around, and oh,
by the way, Dak Prescott out for a couple of weeks.
There's no other big headlines going on today.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
None.
Speaker 6 (00:34):
Well, Dak Prescott's our quarterback. Well, it's the Cowboys. Of course,
they're the Cowboys and the Chiefs. Chiefs win and only
way Chiefs can do it every single week. And the
Cowboys Dak Truck quarterback could be Trey Lance quarterback at
with Cooper, Rush and Troyn. But don't quit on Trey Lance.
I made a really good trade for him. I didn't
(00:56):
do Jackass anything else in the last two seasons in
the offseason, but I traded for our third string quarterback
that I didn't give Jack Prescott any players to work with.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Now we're hour in.
Speaker 6 (01:07):
The crapper, nothing, nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
A trade deadline.
Speaker 6 (01:13):
We got the Cowboys, we got free agency opening, Joe
Orkeaty and some guys no longer here.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
We'll get to what.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
Else is one other fellows to college football rankings.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
By the way, you've got a vote. Yeah, there's an
election today.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
It is election day, it is, and you know what,
Happy election Day to those to celebrate.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
And tomorrow you're gonna wake up regardless and you're just
gonna go about your business as usual regardless.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
So be kind out there, folks. Line, I love that
saying business as usual.
Speaker 6 (01:46):
Hey, it's another day paradise. There we go with the
with the with the with the old white guy. Basic
white guys had another day of paradise. Hey, are you
okay today?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
What do you mean the right side of the dirt?
Speaker 6 (02:01):
Still? Hey, every day is a blessing, all true though, right, Yeah,
that's actually true. One thing that's not a blessing if
you're the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You didn't even get the
football last night and overtime and Baker Mayfield played his
ass off. He's competing his ass, dude, he he You
know what it looks like. Remember when we were on
the show when he was going through his struggles from
(02:23):
Cleveland to at the end it got rid of.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
It was when I remember a specific conversation we had
when he went to the Rams and he got the
start after like being there for two days, right, and
he played well. And I remember you saying something along
the lines of this is going to help him find
a team next year. But what kind of Baker Mayfield
(02:45):
are you going to get? Are you going to get
this guy that does Walt commercial or the walk on
Baker Mayfield?
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Right?
Speaker 6 (02:50):
And that was my take because Baker Mayfield has always
been his best. Now being a star and getting paid
for it awesome and making money and that's what you
everybody wants is to get paid and win. Hopefully when
first get paid second. I don't know which comes first,
but I can tell you this that with Baker Mayfield
going through all that where he you know, he first
(03:11):
pick of the draft, had some good times and some downtimes.
Hell Chicago, I mean Cleveland probably wishes they still had
Baker Mayfield after all this.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, yeah, in fact not probably that Garan asked, he.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
Jamis through three picks last weekend, so he and he
plays better than Watson does. So with Baker it was
Okay Starr and all these commercials and sometimes it's not
just him. It's easy to get caught up in that.
But when Baker Mayfield has been at his best, he's
been a walk on meaning walk on mentality for me,
he's a walk on it what Texas Tech and then
(03:42):
finds his way to Oklahoma and you know all those
and then becomes that guy. And so when he finally
he got cut a couple of times removed, it was
all the humbling part of Okay, let me get back
to whatever those roots are, basic mechanics, whatever that is,
or attitude. He didn't lose his talent, but I think
attitude has a lot to do with the way he plays.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
There's a swagger about him when he's going good, that
he's done k tough. He just gets after him that.
It's not like he's playing it too cute because he's
a star.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
He's like that.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
There's a blue collar I know, it's cheese, hard hat
mentality with him, right, And he's doing that again in Tampa.
And look at the way look a look at he
got a little defensive mentality playing quarterback and that's when
he's always been at the best. Yeah, and letting people
know that this way we're going to do things around
here and leading without worrying about the result. And he
is playing his ass off The problem is Todd Bowles
had to grow a set last night. Your team's exhausted
(04:35):
and I did one piece of wallw should they be tired?
You get my point. You're in Kansas City. You can't
take the risk of a coin toss. The guy on
the other team has thrown three touchdown pass. We know
who Kansas City is, and if they win the coin toss,
the chances are the game may be over. Being go
five to five from homes, they go down and win.
He didn't get a shot at it after that great
drive at the end to get him there. Now you
(04:56):
do at home. I would have done what Bulls did
on the road with all that energy. I'm not sure
you can take the risk and the way you went
down and scored, and I know Andy Reid was happy
that they didn't go for two. I thought that was
an opportunity. I know you're playing to you know, hang
around in the division and do it all. I think
when you're playing teams like that, what happens is when
(05:18):
you're playing a Kansas City Chiefs team, I think you
get to the point where it's like, maybe we can
hang in there and overtime instead of I got a
chance you know, you know how I am about endgame momentum,
and they gathered it and they showed guts coming doing
their thing. Had a chance. I know that if you
go for it, everybody says why don't you play for tie?
And if you play for tybody wants you to go
(05:39):
for it. I thought at that moment, probably best to
put the ball in your best player, Baker Mayfield hands,
Let's see if we can get it done and get
up there and run it right away.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Don't even bull it over.
Speaker 6 (05:51):
I think Todd Bowles missed an opportunity to.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
To close it out. Now.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
I don't know how the result would have been, but
I think we'd be to talking more. You know what,
I'm okay with it than you are.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Oh, don't get scared now, let it rip. Yeah, you
got a chance.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
Things are going well in the game late and he
had Kansas City at that point time on their heels
a little bit.
Speaker 7 (06:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Defensively, yeah, I felt like with the environment obviously it
was wet, rainy, cold, you just drove down, you score
a touchdown, and then you elect to kick the extra point.
I'm like, man, in my mind, I was like, dude,
you just had you just drove straight into the teeth
of the Kansas City defense to get an extra point
(06:32):
away from the tie with twenty five seconds left. Twenty
five seconds left and the Chiefs had three timeouts. Todd
Bowles go for two? Why would you let him? Actually,
I think there was thirty one seconds left. Why would
you let him get the ball back? With thirty one
seconds left and three timeouts? And har Harrison, Butker can
kick from like sixty five yards away. Dude, that's two
(06:55):
completions of ten twenty yards and they're already in field
goal range. All you need was thirty yards and he's
a field goal range.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Go for two.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
And even Troy Aikman on the broadcast as soon as
he was like, oh, I wonder if they're gonna go Nope,
they're not, huh. I think he was like, I think
if if that was me, I would I would be
going for two here now. One thing, also, the overtime
rule in NFL sucks.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Well, dude, we've been talking about it. It's so stupid.
It's another gimmick bs you.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
I mean, we've seen it go against Patrick Mahomes before
when Tom Brady had had the football or Joe Burrow,
I can't remember who was one of them. They drove
straight down and scored on the on the chiefs and
the chiefs and get the football back.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
I don't know why it's so hard. Here's here's the
people's argument. Not the people's, but some people's argument. With that,
they'll say, well, your defense. If your defense isn't good
enough to stop them, because you lose a coin toss
and you don't deserve to win, which is not true. Now,
if you both get a possession and your defense doesn't
(07:58):
stop them, then no ball game.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
I'm over.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
I've always believed that that overtime should mirror the regular game.
And what do you get on a regular game when
you kick off both special teams and you know, if
you give everybody just regardless of the field goal, minimum
of one possession and then it's overtime. I even hate
the fact that if it's a tie after overtime one
(08:23):
quarter with ten minutes, now, is that what it is? Yeah,
the game's over. It's called sudden death. Do you play
that damn thing until it ends? Screw ties? The screw them?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
College football ain't God, they do it whatever the system is.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
But how hard is it to say both teams get
minimum in one possession, then it sudden death. So if
the Chiefs go down to score, and when you say,
well they lost on a point to will, their defense
didn't get off the field, Well, yeah, mahomes, there's a lot.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Of defense don't get off the field.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Now, let's see if Kansas City's defense, who started reeling
at the end, if they're good enough to keep the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers from getting off them to get off
the field.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Why is it so difficult to say.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Both team's minimum one possession regardless of what you do.
You kick a field goal or touchdown if they can't. Like,
let's say that Kansas City kicked a field goal in
their first possession. Now, if you're Baker Mayfield in the group,
you go down and you're at the eight years is
that the five yard line? On fourth down? You kick
the tie and there's two minutes left in overtime or
(09:24):
do you.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Go for it? And so that's right.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
So there is a there's some chess in it, you know,
chess pieces in it as well. I hate it because
just give both team's minimum one possession, regardless of what
they do on that first first possession. Now, if you
kick a field goal and they don't score ball, game over.
If they score a touchdown and you get the ball
back and score a touchdown, we're playing sudden death. If
they score a touchdown on the first possession, the game's
(09:48):
not over. Over a coin toss, you get your one
possession to go down, and if you score ball, game's over.
The only way I would say it ends and overtime.
It's going to sound. The only way a game ends
and overtime without both getting minimum one possession is a safety.
If you if you drop back and get a safety
(10:08):
and then get tackled in your own end zone or
get holding while you're dropping the end zone, then the
game ends because you know what, that's kind of a
rare oh my gosh, what happened called? And then it's
like it happens that freak show is then the game's over.
But give them both a minimum one possession, then play overtime,
and it's not that hard, I know, isn't it funny?
Like the parallels between Major League Baseball and their extra
(10:30):
inning rule During the regular season, we put a ghost
runner at second right, excuse me, put the man for
a second. But then when you get in the playoffs,
that doesn't exist anymore.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Why you know what they're telling all the playoffs matter more.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
And then in the NFL, you don't get both teams
in the regular season, don't get one each each, don't
each get a possession in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Each team gets a possession in overtime. That's what I'm saying.
So it's why keep it uniformed?
Speaker 6 (10:57):
Why?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, if what I'm doing the regular season, why wouldn't
I do it?
Speaker 5 (11:01):
I don't get it. We do such dumb ass things
in sports these days.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
I don't know why.
Speaker 6 (11:06):
So regular game five, Oh, they scored a touchdown, Well,
you get your one possession, and if you don't score
a touchdown, down match him. And then you have the
opportunity as well. You score a touchdown on your one possession,
you've matched the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
You can go for two.
Speaker 6 (11:20):
As well as you want and end it there, right,
instead of going into sudden death or kick and then
we play sudden death.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
And go home. I still don't like that.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
It's ten minutes, But if you want to call it
a tie after ten minutes in five quarters.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I'll accept that a little more that I will. Oh,
they won the toss Mahomes goes down, takes him into score.
You don't get a chance on offense.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
Isn't a real game when you play offense, defense, special
teams in baseball?
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Isn't a real game? Is when you pitch and hit them? Yeah? Yes, yes?
Speaker 6 (11:48):
And isn't a real game when you actually have to
earn This isn't This isn't Saturday morning with your buddies where.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
You're playing ball.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
A ghost runner on second, got to move him over
and drive him home, and there's nobody's standing on second,
don't you in most life? I mean, do you ever?
Have you ever got a bonus for not earning it? No?
Has anybody walked up and say, you know what, I
appreciate you. You got here five minutes earlier than normal. There's
one hundred thousand dollars bonus on your contract. No, you
(12:15):
actually have to do something in sales or or reach
a goal. How in the world are we not doing
the same thing post regular season postseason and given everybody
their op So that would mean if we do it
that way, offense, defense and special teams, kick and return
all get all get the same opportunity.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
That's a game. Yeah, I just it.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
But you love it if it's your team that wins it,
and it sucks if it's not. It's just a it's
an till the gimmicks we come up with in sports
are at what would have been a problem.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Don't you want to see how Tampa would have responded? Yes,
you know? Yeah right?
Speaker 6 (12:49):
So if it's so important in the playoffs, what if
it's the final game to get to the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
How important is that for a team that.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
May have If Carolina who hadn't been to plais So,
all of a sudden they got close to the playoffs
and one game cost them, Like this, I'm using them
because they're not any good. Yeah, isn't that game monumentally
important to them?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Imagine it's it's the Bearers and the Panthers and neither
of them I'm sorry, yeah, neither of them have been
in the playoffs in a while. All of a sudden
they both got you know, Bryce Young's they're tried in
the game away Williams is the rookie quarterback. And literally
if one whoever wins, goes to the playoffs and this
is the bs that.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Happens, are you kidding me?
Speaker 6 (13:24):
And then then mon doesn't get a chance to match
because you scored a touchdown. Because it's the regular season,
not the playoffs. Right, it makes no sense to me.
I think it sucks. I don't know why it's not uniformed.
But the let's not bury the lead. The Kansas City
Chiefs find ways to win, always do. It doesn't matter
of their nuts they find. But I'm not on them.
You know, sometimes you get tired of swinging on them.
(13:45):
It's almost like you could jump off and try to
land somewhere else and it will find your way, magnetize
that these nuts.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Yeah, and they you know, they just just magically have
DeAndre Hopkins as one of their wider average else look
what eight catchers, man, unbelievab.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
They're gonna be a tough out to say for the
third year. Eight Yeah, and they don't look you know, no,
I'm gonna save it.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
We gotta gets the next Semel, right, because it's just
it's in your cross.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
Yeah, man, it pisses me off. All right, Well let's
let's let him have it next.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
But also we have to discuss NFL trade deadline today.
What should the Texans do? If anything? We'll discuss an
X on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
This is Craig Vigio.
Speaker 8 (14:29):
You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
You're home with the Stros.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
We're gonna make an executive decision today and we're gonna
just move to out of Tuesday, back to next Tuesday
and just play.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Patriotic music today. Yeah, what do you think about that? Country?
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Yeah, it always is just getting the you know, getting
to get in the mode. It doesn't matter what it is.
It could be a you know, uh, what's our guy?
It could be a Lee Brice song. You can Toby
Toby Keith song. It can be an Alan jack Allen Jackson,
Where were you in the world side Turkey?
Speaker 2 (15:03):
It can be any of those. That's not really Joe.
We don't want that page. We don't need. We don't
want to be sad. We just want to be happy.
You don't put respect on tail on a Tuesday anyway,
So yeah, of.
Speaker 6 (15:11):
Course we can really Yeah, tale on a Tuesday is
my idea. Well it is really a right, but yeah,
there's my peeps. So I just think that today, you know,
did we we honor just how blessed we are to
live here?
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Absolutely, Yeah, I'm good with it, all right, I'm good
with it? Uh something I'm not good with? Can we
can I get this off my chest?
Speaker 6 (15:35):
Chesse's nuts? Yeah, go ahead, What's what's in your crome?
Speaker 5 (15:39):
You know you cannot tell me that the refs are
not on the take in some former fashion when the
Chiefs play. I look, I think Patrick Mahomes is an
unbelievable quarterback. He's going to go down as one of
the best to ever do it. There's no question that
(16:00):
they got weapons, and then they lose the weapons, and
then they somehow they just keep winning. They are physical
as hell on defense. Spagnolo is so underrated as a
defensive coordinator. They don't need extra help.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
He's the best in the league, especially under pressure and
when it comes to big games.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
The amount of times I saw the left tackle and
right tackle jump early for the Chiefs last night is egregious.
And one of the focuses of this season from the
referees was supposed to be eliminating that illegal procedure penalties.
The amount of times I saw it, especially on that
in the overtime drive. They get away with that all
(16:39):
the time, and I don't understand it.
Speaker 6 (16:42):
Well, he's gonna get every call to the quarterback listen.
It doesn't diminish how good he is and how good
the Chiefs are. And Andy ree, there's no doubt it
the way I was saying that, there's no question about that.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
But damn man, I.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Would agree that they'll win without the rest. Yes, I agree,
But I can tell you this, and I never used
to buy it. I don't usually buy into these things
because they usually I say, they even it out. I
gotta tell you, in big calls in certain situations, it
doesn't even out.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
When it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs, it just doesn't.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
It's the same as a superstar in sports. I mean,
you're gonna get certain guys that are gonna get calls
in their favor that another guy just won't. And we
always say, well, that's kind of an unwritten rule. Why right,
A foul is a foul, A foul that's not a foul.
I think that the NFL wants I don't know if
they need wants to be able to put Taylor Swift
(17:30):
on TV. I think they love when the Chiefs win
because they're Super Bowl draw. I think they've got a
guy in Mahomes who doesn't buy He's just a good,
wholesome guy. They've got the Andy Reid, whos as good
a guy as there is in football. They got a
good team. They are owned by a the Hunt family.
It's powerful. I'm not saying they going to pay off
the rest. That's not what I'm saying. No, I don't
(17:52):
think that. Roger Goodel says, hey, make sure you air
on the side of the Kansaity Chiefs. I do think
like a good hitter Ted Williams, Tony Pete rose Uh,
Alex Bregman. I'm not putting him in their category. You
get with their eye, same category Bonds when he was
on fire, you missed by a quarter of an inch
in He homers or hits it hard out. He takes
(18:13):
it and walks two hundred times in a season. But
if it's close, what's the umpire doing.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
When Bonds was probably gonna probably gonna let that take
the walk, He's gonna say, oh that ball Bonds didn't swing.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Tony Gwinden swing got to be a ball here. It's
Mahomes fell to the ground. Gotta be gotta be somehow
you can't hit our guy. It's he is. He would
be great regardless. I'm not saying that his success is
because of it. But if there's ever a teeter totter
that leans on one side or the other, like win
in doubt, benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
The Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
Chiefs are a superstar in basketball or a superstar hitter
who gets the benefit of the doubt, usually on a
call when he's got a great eye and he's like,
and he's a three forty hitter. Yeah, and so yes,
I know I don't usually believe that, but in watching it,
they'll let that the tackle his head start. No, he listen,
we get after tunsil for his This tackle's head start
(19:08):
would be like giving the the uh pull sitter in
the pullsitter in the Indy five hundred or at the Daytona. Yeah,
a sixty meter head start without on the last lap.
You got a sixty meter head start on the last lap.
All you got to do is get out. I mean
(19:29):
for them to catch you. Just you just don't wreck
the car on the last lap, and you win the
Daytona five hundred. Yeah, it's to say, oh, you got
to block the best guys. Guy gets a head start
to the edge, and then I'll call it. It is blatant,
and it happens more than once a game. They crushed
the left tackle for Baltimore in the opening game. They've
(19:49):
crushed tunsl and other guys. So you can't if they're
looking at it the naked eye without a replay, can
see that.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Yeah. So it was so obvious last night and it
just just sadly.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
It's happened more and more for the if if there's
a call, they're gonna air on the side caution and
caution is protect the chiefs.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
I believe that. I don't believe, but like.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
You call them up. But you know how we get
that feeling. You think they liked it.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
The Dodgers won the World Series. Oh hell yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
If O Tawni takes a pitch. Yet most of the time,
what are they gonna do. Oh, they're gonna give to
a TWI probably lean on the side of the golden child, right, yes,
lean on the side of the gold who's the golden team,
fair haired team in this league? And they've earned it.
But you jump off sides. Guess what that is. It's
off side. It's off side. They're way too good. They're
(20:37):
gonna beat your brains in without that help. So let's
be a little more. It's pretty easy to see how
how early this guy's getting off.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
So the tackles blatant actually.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
And also another thing, Patrick Mahomes on that little he
was rolling out to his right, dumped off for a
touchdown to Kareem Hunter or whoever it was, uh p Ryan,
whoever was, and then he kind of jammed his right
leg and he goes down, and then the training staff
comes out. The crowd goes quiet, and they two grown
(21:11):
ass men are helping Patrick Mahomes off of the field,
just for him to turn around and start jogging around
on the sideline and.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Then come back. And now he's a hero, like a
look at his tough What are we doing? Are such
a bitch? Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
One of the arguments was, oh he's hey, valiant effort
by a gimpie or whatever.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
You know. Patrick.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
The headline on ESPN he was playing with a broken
like It was playing with a like a like a
torn achilles or a yanked calf or.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
A Holmes shrugs off. Scary injury for Key Kansas City win.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Was an ankle, right, Yeah, I saw. I actually did
not see them carry him off, you know.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
They carried him off. It was him with his two
trains arms.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Yeah, dude, and they're like, all right.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Dude, it's the great thing because it sets up for
the John Wait is the hero, dude.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
And then and then dude, he's a he's a Warrior.
They go to they go to break, Warrior, and then
and they Warrior.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
They go to break, and then Michelle Tafoya they go
down to the sideline for her, and she's like, oh, yeah,
it seems like the chief anymore, not Michelle te Foy.
It's yeah, Michelle Foy is definitely not there anymore, assaulter. Sorry, yes,
they say, uh, she says, oh, the chiefs are telling
me that it's an ankle injury, but he's expected to
go back into the game.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Warrior.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
Dude, you you would have thought, Hero, you would have
thought this dude just broke his his hip bone, except.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
The fact that he overcomes an ankle injury more the
better than anybody in the league. They put him on
the training table, walked him in the blue tens. Have
you seen his body, Well, yeah, chiseled out stone. My
man's got a bad po shizzled out of stone. That's
how he overcomes I'm just gonna tell you right now, Hero,
Patrick mahomes a skinny, fat, friggin hero. He's the best
(23:10):
quarterback in the NFL. But he is skinny, fat, skate
of the legs that he missed legg day. But the
man's got a beard. Yeah, dude, don't don't hate hero
dragged scary the field shrugs off a scary injury, valiant
efforts like.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
When Paul Pierce was wheeled off in a wheelchair, turned
around to come back to the very next minute.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
The simple fact that he could send a playoff is
so annoying.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
The simple fact that he could do that. He's a warrior,
what hero warrior? You know what, just because you twined
your hand and got a miss a week, don't hate
my whole you know what, dude? It look I mean
they had an ankle replacement on the sideline for him,
do you know that.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yeah, he had an ankle.
Speaker 6 (23:55):
Replacement on the side there. They did surgery, ankle replacement,
came back warrior here.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Also, it's gonna suck that Dak Prescott's out.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Now we're not going to get to hear the but
we go. But isn't that fair? Isn't it his? Isn't it?
Dak's there? It is Why Eddie?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Why Eddie learn.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
At kill kill Kelsey? Yeah? An you know what else?
Need one thing? You need to respect?
Speaker 9 (24:27):
Why?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Okay, let me ask you this, did Eddie? Did Dak
Prescott come back from his injury and be a hero? Okay?
Speaker 10 (24:36):
Here we go, Here we go?
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Why Eddie?
Speaker 6 (24:40):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (24:41):
And going there to finde.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Kelsey? Hey? But I didn't even know this? Did uh?
Did uh?
Speaker 6 (24:50):
Did Watson come back from the sidelines his injury? Did
Dak Prescott?
Speaker 2 (24:56):
No? Who's the warrior and the hero and all this?
Pretty grind?
Speaker 6 (25:00):
Uh bgg do not hate Mahomes's dude?
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Hero shrug? How do you shrug off that injury? Scary injury? Dude?
Speaker 6 (25:08):
They gave him an ankle replacement on the sideline and
in a matter of minutes he's rehabs it and he's.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Ready to get fine.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
Crazy.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I can't believe what a hater you are. You played
the b card too, didn't you.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (25:18):
Yeah, she's a hero though, No, not Brittain Gregor he
called in that moment.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Yeah for sure, dude. He was a warrior and a hero.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
Man, man, I love it.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
He got helped off the field.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
Hey, what you ever seen Lebron Lebron's never faked in
injury or flopped. No, he comes back. Hero scores twenty
in the fourth quarter after blowing out his ankle.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Did Browny play last night?
Speaker 6 (25:43):
Unbelievable? There's heroes and then there's heros. Uh warrior you
ever heard of that? Okay, let's get to break. Let's

Seven one three five seven one. He is and number
to join. We're going to talk Texans this uh, this
segment and.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Nicely greenwood cut. Yeah yeah, I thought you'd say qualify.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
What do you qualify? No? Qualify already? What's wrong with you? Man?
What happens? Seriously?
Speaker 8 (27:46):
What?
Speaker 11 (27:46):
What?
Speaker 2 (27:46):
What actually happened to you along the way? I'm a
product of my environment.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
Tell you what the when's the last time you showed
up her?
Speaker 2 (27:53):
When's the last time I show up? When you pulled
you when you pulled your hammy?
Speaker 6 (27:56):
Yeah, when you're handy, like last week Friday, hammy?
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yeah? Like, well, last week Friday when you pulled your hammy.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
He lied and said you went to Scotts saleh yeah
what what that?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
That would be? The batch batched it up? Did Were
you a hero? Did you show up like Mahomes? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (28:15):
No, your hammy hurts the guy, the guy, the.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Guy almost lost his foot. He did the game last night.
They came. I saw did you see the saw on
the sidelines? Saw?
Speaker 6 (28:30):
They were gonna cut it off right there, right there,
but he said, hold off, let me get to the end.
He goes in there place that does what Mahomes always does,
finish this game. Guy's phenomenal and you decided to bury him.
Hammy keeps you out amputation of a foot.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
He came back.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
I actually the left tackle jumped off sides so quickly,
I mean the right tackle was was uh illegal procedure?
Uh huh without getting the right tackle was in the
huddle for the next play.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Right.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
He got off the ball so quickly before the ball
stap that you didn't even know it played with by
No reff could even keep up with it. He was
so quick he got away from the ball. He only
got like a four second headstart. That's fine, but hero,
he shrugged off a scary injury. Scary, dude, crazy. Anytime
you can shrug it off, you we all get to
take some notes. Dude, we got a note the foot
was only it was damn near left on the field.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
Uh do you ever hear of a footnote? Footnote to it?
His foot, A note to you? Uh play hurt? The
guy played with the stub and still almost and still
pull unbelievable, crazy, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
So it makes him the best man. But the truth
is he is the best I know. Seven five seven, Roger,
what's happening?
Speaker 12 (29:51):
Good morning? Fellow's just sitting here in my car watching
the bottom fall out.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
That's all raining outside this morning. Yeah, what side of town?
What's well? You didn't rain this morning?
Speaker 12 (30:01):
It wasn't any any any side of town right now?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
One side of town? Are you on, Roger?
Speaker 12 (30:07):
I'm on right off off the boss and I tend.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
The thunder and lightning was intense, dude, morning we didn't
have anything else on them.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
Well, of course you guys out there here, I mean
you guys, you guys with your computer control the climate.
I mean you don't want it to rain as you
do is push a butt there.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
You guys going on in Conroe and all that.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
Now, if you were really in Spring Spring or Esco,
you wouldn't be able to do anything because the mean
streets don't allow that.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
See what I gotta do with Roger unbelieving?
Speaker 12 (30:36):
It's all good man, I love it. I love it
every morning, man, you got's a part of my day.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Man.
Speaker 12 (30:40):
Anyway, Trade deadline?
Speaker 13 (30:42):
Uh man?
Speaker 12 (30:43):
Can you guys right now imagine you know as good
as C. J. Strouders putting a drive like that that
did Baker Mayfield put together the last the last minute
of that of that game, and and putting a drive
like that, and and you know, forcing overtime. I just
I can't see our team do and stuff like that
right now and reason because you know, we just don't
(31:04):
have the depth. And I know we're about to find
out how serious we want to be as far as
winners this year. Because I know it's hard to find
offensive lineman. I know it's but you know, for some reason,
and wide receivers, for some reason, Kansas City seems to
be pulling those trades off and getting those getting that
talent on that field. No matter what kind of injury
(31:24):
they sustained, they they seem to make up for it
and get the guys that they need to move forward.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
And I just hope that.
Speaker 12 (31:31):
We can be that team. Is that some at once?
You know, maybe in the future. I'm not sure about
this year. I think really just really really strapped this
year with our talent up front.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
That offensive line. Hey, Roger, let me ask you.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
If you're the GM and I said, you get a
wish list, I'm gonna let you not any not any
particular player, just a position. If I said wish list
offensive line or wide receiver, and you get the best
who the best of available in either category, but you
only get one one? Which one is it?
Speaker 10 (32:03):
Man?
Speaker 12 (32:04):
I just really think we have enough receivers right now
to do to do damage if they play at their potential.
So I'm gonna go with offensive linemen and the best
of it. Sure, why not give it to me because
I need I need stroud to be I need to
I know he can get the ball out fast, but
he's starting to get those he's starting to get those hips, man,
And those yips are hard to you know, to let
(32:27):
go of once you start getting them, you know, you know,
they get the happy feet. And he just wasn't doing
these things. These mechanics were not in his repertoire last year,
and now this year they are. And it's just bad
habits are hard to break, man, And I don't want
him to get any more bad habits because of the office,
because of lack of offensive live production and that you know.
Speaker 7 (32:45):
That's how really all I had to say.
Speaker 12 (32:47):
And as far as the astros go, Man, yeah, we're
about to find out, I think, Gregman, you know there
is a there is a world which Greagman can stay
an astro.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
That's up to him.
Speaker 12 (32:56):
Though we're not gonna have we're not offering peanuts, so maybe,
you know, we'll just see what happened. I do hope
that they shop the the top shelf this year, not
the bargain basement again. And uh as far as u,
you know, getting a placement for Bregman. Those two corners
cannot be Like I said, there's those two hot corners though,
(33:17):
you know, first base and third base, they cannot be
amateur hour this year, this season. You just can't. All right, guys,
that's all I got.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Appreciate you, brother, thank you, appreciate it.
Speaker 14 (33:25):
Roger, thank You's rain and man, I can't believe you
didn't know what's raining out. And Roger is correct about
you know, first and third got to be a dominant position.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
We know Bregman can't get finistation.
Speaker 6 (33:41):
So there's a lot of things going on today when
it's sports world to concern this city.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
I know no doubt about it.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
So let's keep talking about the Texans trade deadline three
pm Central.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
What moves should they make?
Speaker 5 (33:53):
Also, we'll get out to your phone lines or get
out to your phone calls on the phone line seven one, three,
two point two five seven nine is keep it rolling
right here on the Shans Ilsbury Show.

price gouging happens. They want to make sure you're safe

because you're roofsold or a storm hit and you need help.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Why in the world.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
Would somebody take advantage of that as opposed to making
sure that you take advantage of it so you get
the best deal possible.
Speaker 2 (35:03):

Country Boys Roofing Country with the K Boys with the
Z Country Boys Roofing l LC dot com.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
Boy, You're back.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back at it.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
Seven ninety is the number to join. Let's get back
out to the phone lines. Talk to Randall. Randall, welcome in,
good morning, Hey.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 15 (36:00):
Want to keep Alex Bregman and trade Jeremy Pinya, and
my wish list is for an offensive line. And I
wanted to ask you guys a question. Who do you
think have the best football team right now? Even though
Cincinnati has a more than five records in Houston is
sixty three?
Speaker 7 (36:19):
Give me your take on that?
Speaker 2 (36:21):
You cut out in my ear? What did you say?
Say it again?
Speaker 15 (36:23):
Randall talked to I wanted you, okay, I said, I
want to keep Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pinyon. My wish list
is offensive line, and who do you think have the
best football team right now? Houston has a six and
three and Cincinnati is four and five. I think Cincinnati
is going to make a run. I hang up and listen, okay, Randall,
(36:47):
thank you. In all those I'd love to keep Bregman.
It's really going to be on the money offer and
how close you're going to be to whatever whoever trump's
that offer, right, And with Panya, I think you got
one more year of who is Jeremy Pania before you
consider that he'll be the starting short stop for the
Ashls in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 6 (37:08):
Yeah, but I understand random the frustration. But he's got
so much ability. I think we're one more year of
this and it's going to say, okay, has he made
strides at the plate and getting his glove in his arm?
I mean, like I said, the late defensive struggles were
odd this year, very odd. So I don't think we're
there yet. But I understand Randall two. Yes, you want
offensive line Texans, no doubt. And to answer your question
(37:31):
about I picked the Bengals to go to the super
Bowl this year. So did I and I don't know
if that's going to happen, but this is the time
they usually go on a run and Burrow's having a
hell of a season that they are really good. If
they both played the Texas, if they played the Texans
right now, I'd be hard pressed not to pick Joe
Burrow and the Bengals in that game. I think the
Texans are as good as them. Their record says they're better,
(37:54):
but kind of. I guess it depends on what you're getting,
who's healthy and who's not that whole thing, right, Yeah,
but the Bengals have enough problems of their own. But
I'm not quitting on them yet because if they get
in they'll be dangerous because Burrow is just a monster,
right And if you if if you were extending this
to who's the best team in football? The team you
saw last night? I still think the Baltimore Ravens belong
in that talk. And do not sleep on the Detroit
(38:15):
Lions being the best team of all of them. They
can play with any of them. So, uh, those three
sit at the top for me as far as the
best teams in football right now.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
I think it's the Lions right now, I really do.
That was did you pick them in the NF Who
did you pick in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (38:29):
I had I had the Bengals and the Lions in
the Super Bowl, the Bengals winning.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
And I had the Lions and we both had the
same picks for the Super Bowl. So I'm sticking with
the Lion. I mean, I'm not waffling either. I'm gonna
stick with them. But yeah, it's a it's a tougher
task for the for the uh Cincinnati Bengals with their
their start, but Burrow, like Bregman, so it must be
an LSU think slow starters, and then Bregman turns it
on Burrows every year starts a little slow and by
(38:56):
the end of the season, he's in the MVP talk.
If he stays healthy and then get in the playoffs,
they'll be dangerous. I'm anxious to see if they're going
to do anything today.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
You gotta think they would, right, We'll see, Yeah, we
will see that.
Speaker 6 (39:08):
There's only so much to go around for teams that
are going to be doing some moving for a guy
that can make a difference on your team.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
Right, But there's still players on teams that aren't doing
very well that could be those teams could be sellers, right.
Speaker 6 (39:18):
So there's no doubt or players that are earning too
much money and not earning it.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
Right, And now there you go, there's that as well.
Let's get to Ryan real quick before it gets to
this seven o'clock hour trip. I got it right here, Ryan.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (39:28):
What's up, guys, I'll do it.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Suck suck man, it's jumping on the north side.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (39:35):
It wasn't that, dude. When I left the house. It
was not close. Parkway's a wrecked.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
But anyways, at hands, it's not.
Speaker 7 (39:44):
It's not looking good anyways.
Speaker 16 (39:47):
I think I said I wanted to talk about the Chiefs,
but it's kind of it's Texans adjacent the.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
Chiefs being the Chiefs seem to just barely.
Speaker 16 (39:55):
Squeak out wins, and I feel like it's been this
way all season.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
I don't think the Chiefs are the Chiefs of yesterday.
I think they are beatable. They've just been pulling it
out of their butt every time.
Speaker 10 (40:06):
So I don't know.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
I think the signo, Ryan, is that the sign? Well, okay,
then you can't tell me the Texans. The Texans been
pulling it out of their ass against some average teams
as well.
Speaker 16 (40:17):
Correct, that's what Okay, let me Okay, you're right, Sean.
You run it back and bring that back in. The
Chiefs are a good team, but they're not what the
world beaters.
Speaker 7 (40:26):
They used to be. Everything with a few pieces.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
With a few pieces, they're beatable.
Speaker 16 (40:31):
The Texans, the Texans, the Texans can pull it out,
but I do think the Lions are gonna win it all. Also,
Alex Bregman will stay at Houston astro Brian knows.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
I already believe that.
Speaker 16 (40:40):
And also Nick wanted me to.
Speaker 7 (40:41):
Tell you all.
Speaker 16 (40:41):
He says, Hi, sorry, I tweeted. He doesn't miss you guys.
He just hasn't had a chance.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
With working everything unbelievable. Tell Nick, you know, just to
figure it out, Son, figure out. Figured out? Yeah, Ryan,
But you were right Ryan, real quick. You are right.
Speaker 6 (40:55):
I think with a couple moves them, there's a couple,
two or three teams that close the gap.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
There's a right now.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
I think Detroit can be played with can say I
think Baltimore is in their category. They just find ways
to win, which is a great thing. But if somebody
can get an extended lead and plays the same type
of football and at a pace they play it has
a great quarterback. I think that that there are teams
that can close that gap and beat them. They're beatable.
They're not going undefeated. They're not that good offensively, they're
(41:21):
just not that that that that goes my sentiment.
Speaker 16 (41:24):
I was I was wrong to say they're not.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
No, you're right. No, you're right, but they're not the
same team that they've been when it's the explode. You're exactly.
Speaker 6 (41:30):
They just find ways to win, which to me is
the signs of good team because they win without playing
their best, which I kind of like at some point
they're going to have to play their best to beat
those other teams.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
You're talking about no doubt.
Speaker 7 (41:41):
Of course, you guys, you have go to stay drive.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
You great stuff. He's one hundred percent correct. I wish
they can't. I don't think they can win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (41:52):
The inconsistent, but they when they got the ball last
or when he's going the quarterback is always going to
keep you in it, of course, and their defense is
so good. But they are They're they're not world bees.
Where they're this ain't the two thousand and seven two
thousand and seven New England Patriots where they went won
every game that got beaten the Super Bowl, but where
every time you looked up they were every game.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
But they are capable, that's for sure. It's getting the
seven o'clock hour. Let's take a look at what what
would you add first? If you had the GM spot
for the Texans, an upgraded offensive line, or a wide receiver.
We'll discuss the next Sports Talk seven ninety ADM.

Speaker 5 (43:03):
Free agency in Major League Baseball underway, NFL trade deadline
today at three o'clock Central, see if the UH Texans
make any move. So, Shawn's where we begin this hour
talking about these Houston Texans. They're gonna have to gear
up this week to take on arguably the best team
(43:24):
in the NFL, the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
That's gonna be on Sunday Night football. Do they make?
Speaker 5 (43:29):
First of all, do they make a move today? Basic
ask question? Obviously we'll have to wait and see. But
in your opinion, do you think they try and go
make a move?
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Now, there's a difference between make and try. Well, which
one do you want to hold me to? Do you
do they make a move?
Speaker 6 (43:47):
Okay, now let me take it one next level. Is
it a significant move or one that AD's depth and
one that that's fairly a significant starter? As significant starter? No, yeah,
I don't think so either.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
They made to No one may inquire about it, but
where's that guy coming from? Yeah? And what do you agree?
Speaker 6 (44:04):
Because if I okay, give me a team that you
don't like or they that that's that you think they've
got to be moving out of this, Uh, Tennessee, maybe
Saints Saints.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Is Jacksonville prepared to do it yet? The Giants? Okay,
all right, let's go with any of those who's a vague.
I mean, what do you what do you? What are
you gonna have to give up?
Speaker 6 (44:26):
I'd hold you high if you call me up and
I'm the Tennessee Titans and you want a left tackle.
I just I'm a wide receiver. I don't know who
you'd want as a wide receiver. But if you're going
to offer, I'm trying to think of who else might
be in the league. Okay, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, the Raiders
were at the top of my list. I mean, they're
let they're firing coaches.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
They might.
Speaker 6 (44:47):
I mean, if they're going to get rid of players.
Devonte Adam's already gone. I wonder if Max Crosby moves today,
That's what I And you know what, I wonder where
Detroit gets. Well, if if Detroit gets Max Crosby canceled,
the NFC, they're that good.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Yeah, I don't a significant one that makes it.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
Do.
Speaker 6 (45:05):
I think they'll try to and could pull off a
depth move maybe, But do I think they're gonna be
willing to give up a high asset for trying to
get into the fray with somebody because they'll get held
because especially if it's somebody in your conference, right, I
don't think they'll pull that off today. Be great if
they did. I'm sure they're trying, but that those are
(45:25):
hard to come by. And if you do, what are
you willing to give up to get that person? So
now now we know there's gonna be bodies out there
that teams are like, okay, man, we've got to move
on from this, right, Yeah, And I don't know if
they're going to be able to pull that off. It'd
be great if they did. I told you that you're
going to get an idea how they feel about their
(45:48):
team with if they're if they didn't even attempt to
make a move, there's no movement, then we'll know how
they felt about the team. If they go and make
a move, and a significant one, you'll know how they
felt about that position.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
What do you willing to part with? Looks like.
Speaker 5 (46:03):
I'm just kind of looking at some reading some of
these articles when it comes to the Houston Texans the
let's see who is this buys the CBS Sports, USA
Today Sports the top position that Texans to trade for safety.
Houston needs a healthy Jimmy Ward to return if it
plans on making a run. Rookie Kaylen Bullock might leave
the team an interception, but he's been inconsistent in coverage.
(46:25):
Opposite Eric Murray. The same goes from Murray when asked
the defense explosive place. I okay, look, I mean.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
The top, not the top.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
The top is adding some depth to that offensive line,
or at least adding some competition if you can't make
a blockbuster move, which I agree with you, Sean, I
don't know where the top offensive linemen are probably not
going to be available to trade the deadline, but at
least go add some competition and add some depth.
Speaker 6 (46:45):
Well, if there is a top top offensive lineman, excuse
me available, you think other teams don't know that, right,
they're going to try to jump in on the Fray
as well. I'm I'm I'm actually really anxious to see
where this goes and how they what they're willing to
part with. But it's amazing some of these guys. You'll
(47:07):
get good players for a third or fourth round or
wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
So I don't know.
Speaker 6 (47:11):
I mean, the offensive lineman don't just fall off a
turn up truck and land in your lap to come
in and make a huge difference. If they do, something
feels more like a depth move instead of a star move.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
There's also, excuse me, one of the offensive linemen that's
rumored to be a potential move at the trade deadline
in Chicago Bears offensive lineman Nate Davis. He was He's
an interior lineman. He was at one point in the
starting lineup for Chicago, but not anymore. And if Chicago
is truly willing to pay a bulk of his eight
(47:39):
million dollars salary, it could be a target for the
Houston Texans. So there's one offensive lineman. Obviously, you've got
wide receivers that room. Demiko Ryan said that they're going
to monitor Nico Collins all week long to see if
he'll be able to start Sunday.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
They've got to have that guy go. He's got to
get back in this lineup.
Speaker 5 (47:59):
And obviously, you know, we we can talk and talk
and talk about the struggles of the offensive line, but
the fact is right now, your number one wide receiver
without an ego. Collins in the lineup is tanked, Dell.
You have no weapons now, John Metchi, Xavier Hutchinson. Those
are guys that still need time in this league to
get to a certain point. Robert Woods is a veteran, Okay,
(48:19):
that makes sense. Joe Mixon out of the backfield, which
they don't even do anyways. The play calling is run, run, run, run, run.
Try to make a couple of make a couple of throws,
but yet CJ. Stroud is running for his damn life.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
So I'm disappointed. Still got to maybe add somebody to
the wide receiver room in the lack of mixing in
the passing game. Yeah, yeah, that was one of the
things that we talked about when they got him.
Speaker 6 (48:38):
There's not five better backs that do it out of
the backfield to catching the football than him. I don't
understand why that's not been expanded upon, and I wish
it would be because anytime you can put the ball
in his hand, good things happen from the backfield or
catching the football. Plus you get the ball out pretty
quickly when you're running screens and putting him on option routes.
He's good enough to beat people and So that's one thing.
(49:00):
So I I uh, you know, the aggressiveness and the question.
Think about this though, how they went from a deep
wide receiver room to or question if they have enough playmakers?
You'll know today how they feel they go get a
playmaker somehow. And okay, let's say you could grab all
Let's just say they're not going to But what if
the Bengals were willing to move on from Chase? What
(49:21):
would it take? I don't give a damn to make
it happen.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Okay, So that's where you're at with that. Hell yeah,
I don't dynamic.
Speaker 6 (49:28):
The Bengals also realize we're that we're in a position
we could still make a run.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
They're not going to part with the Chase today. So
you say, okay, who's the net?
Speaker 3 (49:36):
Where?
Speaker 2 (49:37):
Where does it? Where does that the pecking order receivers stop? Where?
Speaker 6 (49:40):
You say, okay, that guy is available? I mean where's Ridley?
Is he in Tennessee right now?
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Yes? Would they be willing to part with him?
Speaker 5 (49:51):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (49:52):
They went got him to be, but they would willing
to part with him. The Titans, well without him, I
don't do they have to. I mean they're limited receiver wise.
If they let him go, So would you be willing
to for what third third round, fourth round pick? I
don't think they're going to do that.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (50:07):
He just came to mind because he was an ad
you know, they brought him last year. Was frustrated early
in the season, had a big game the last week
of the week before where he got involved.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
So the question is where you looking for this? Yeah,
the Titans will never do a deal with the Courts.
Speaker 6 (50:20):
Staying in the division is going to be tough. I'm
just looking bodies around that'll move.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Then.
Speaker 5 (50:24):
Well, you know a guy that's that's really not getting
a lot of pub in the league. He's the top
top ten receiver statistically. Why this is Brian Thomas junior
from Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
He's damn near. He's got.
Speaker 5 (50:35):
He's got almost he's got over six hundred yards receiving
right now. Top he's number eight in the league.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
And how do you feel about that team?
Speaker 6 (50:42):
So they're not very good. They're not That's that's the thing.
So the question is are are they are they ready
to say this isn't this isn't just working for us
at Jacksonville.
Speaker 5 (50:54):
I don't know, just trying to look I mean other
than that, what if Court, I mean, if course and Sutton,
Sutton comes available.
Speaker 6 (51:02):
Well, they feeling pretty good about their team. I mean,
you know, they beat this weekend, but they're feeling pretty
good about that.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Sans beat the hell out of it like that crazy.
Speaker 6 (51:14):
So somebody's gonna try to get better though, and a
good team I've talked about, So you'll be in a
bit depending on who you're going after.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Yeah, so it did. We'll have to monitor it all
morning long.
Speaker 5 (51:23):
But I just I just I really feel like if
the Houston Texans want to get to where uh we
all have the expectation is AFC Championship game farther than
they did last year, they're gonna have to add some
depth to that wide receiver room, especially with Stefan Diggs
being out for the season and Nico Collins not back
just yet from ir You know how those soft tess
tissue injuries go.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
All right, let's uh, let's continue on. We're gonna talk.
Speaker 5 (51:45):
Uh, I don't know, there's an apology in the NFL
that was not needed, and we're gonna get Sean's thoughts
on it because that's coming up next.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (51:53):
During the stakeout here, on the Seawan Salisbury Show. Before
we get to that, Kobe Stevens Golf Parrel Kobe Stevens

about Intrepid Care. Trepid Care is a nonprofit organization created
to empower veterans through nature and sports. At Intrepid Care,
the mission is to ignite transformation and they believe that
nature heals, camaraderie strengthens, and friendships blossom when veterans step
(52:34):
into the great outdoors.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
So what a great cause Intrepid Care is.
Speaker 5 (52:39):
The funds that are going to be raised at Kobe
Stephens' second annual Charity Golf Tournament is going to support
multiple programs with Intrepid Care, which takes veteran service members,
first responders, and their families on outdoor activities like hunting
and fishing trips, supporting sports activities as well. As provide
financial support. I mean, you can't find a better organization
to help out our veteran community. Everything that they have
(52:59):
done to keep us safe, they need to heal, they
need to strengthen that camaraderie and their friendships and so
forth and so on, especially with their family and their friends.
And that's what Intrepid Care does. It helps the veteran community.
So all the funds for that golf tournament goes back

he really played the game.

Speaker 17 (54:05):
Right here, He actually has it on his name tag
former pro QB right here.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Back to Sewan on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, Sean,
what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 17 (54:20):
The Salisbury stakeouts? Salsbury takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
Time for the steak out?
Speaker 5 (54:28):
Here on the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sean Brown and Tripley
Rockets beat the Knicks last night astros MC qualifying offer
for Alex Bregman.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
The Chiefs stay undefeated.
Speaker 5 (54:41):
They beat the Bucks in Monday Night Football with a
win in overtime last night. All right for the stakeout.
Jason Kelcey over the weekend, what's the Penn State game?
He was heckled by a Penn State fans slash student
kid walked up to him videotaping him making I'm crazy ass,
(55:03):
just saying some off the walls of the gesler.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
He did the F word the Gessler Yeah, talking about
his brother and Taylor Swift.
Speaker 6 (55:10):
See the problem is they think security did security protects
them from getting punched in their face?
Speaker 2 (55:16):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
And last night before the Monday night football game, he
was on the set with Scott Van Pelt, Ryan Clark
and who else was it?
Speaker 19 (55:24):
What?
Speaker 7 (55:24):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 5 (55:25):
Uh, this is Jason Kelcey. Scott, Scott Vanpelt gave him
the floor and this is Kelsey on what happened.
Speaker 11 (55:35):
You know, Listen, I think everybody's seen on social media
everything that took place this week. That's what I'm listen.
I'm not I'm not happy with anything that took place.
I'm not proud of it. And you know, in a
heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and
(55:56):
I just don't think that that's a productive thing. I
really I don't think that. You know, it leads to
discourse and it's and it's the right way to go
about things. And in that moment, I fell down to
a level that I shouldn't have. So I think the
bottom line is, you know, I want to live my life.
(56:17):
I try to live my life by the golden rule.
That's what I've always been taught I try to treat
people with common decency and respect, and I'm going to
keep doing that moving forward, even though this past, even
though I feel short this week, I'm going to do
that moving forward and continue to do that. So, yeah,
(56:38):
I think we got a game to focus on, obviously
a matchup. I don't think this is the platform the necessarily.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
And that's Jason Kelsey.
Speaker 5 (56:46):
Basically, he finishes off in the next twenty to twenty
five seconds, basically saying, that's all I'm going to say
about it. Let's focus on the game. And then Ryan
Clark says, yeah, we got your black blah blah blah.
Was this even necessary?
Speaker 6 (56:56):
No, he said, lived by the golden rule, you know,
treat you with common decency. The problem is the other guy,
the punk kid who see these guys who get away
with this stuff. They can run and hide on a
keyboard and they can run.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Listen.
Speaker 6 (57:09):
I don't promote violence at all most of the time.
When you get a guy like last night. And I'll
get into it later, but imagine being the endorser for
a brewery and you simply say, oh, Land say somebody
asking you to talk about it, and you don't even
address it to anybody other than the friend of yours
or the guy you know on Twitter you follow, and
(57:31):
you just put it in the comments right, and that
he is so follows you and so hard up and
he's the director of research and development at that brewery
you endorse for, and then starts talking about your kids
and about your personal life on Twitter to me, and
I wouldn't even did even talk out of nowhere and
kept going. Now, imagine how stupid that is, knowing that
(57:52):
I'm right down the street and I'll get to see
him on Thursday or Friday this week because he gets
to instead of a keyboard, his research and development gets
to see me face to face. Now, imagine that when
the when the owner of the company has spent that
kind of money here and on a new national show,
just I might as well why not announce it now?
New national show will be doing announced in November, and
(58:16):
there'll be two of them, and I'll leave the other
guy's name out on the other one. But imagine somebody
giving that kind of and then the head of your
company comes on there and starts dropping the P word
and that because he's so triggered by some comment somebody
made there wasn't even directing him, and wasn't even a
comment about either candidate.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Oh you see what I'm saying, And so imagine that
and guess what. Guess what I get to do.
Speaker 6 (58:41):
He gets to see me face to face and talk
all the P word he wants when I get there.
And I'm not apologizing one bit. And they've all been warned.
So back to Kelsey, Sometimes you just got to make
sure you address them and make sure that they understand
their place. I stand on being hurt right so, and
I don't promote vins. But guess what, I'm tired of
(59:02):
letting smart mouth, bitch ass kids or adults think they
can get away because they think they're protected by somebody.
Because I don't really care what any of them think.
I've done enough of. Oh yeah, common decency is you
better give me common decency In return, Kelsey didn't know
that he dropped the F word. He didn't punch him
in the face. He slammed his phone to the ground
(59:23):
good way.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
Oh, I get that.
Speaker 6 (59:25):
It's a bad look, and you I understand what he's doing.
I hope he's doing that on his own instead of
somebody tapping us and you need to do. I don't
think he needed to apologize. I think the kid needed
to get on social media and apologize to Kelsey.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
I think Kelsey can buy him a new phone, no problem.
Speaker 6 (59:39):
The apologies should have come from the kid first, who
says that not expecting when you're talking about a family
member who not expecting a friggin ass whoopan. So no,
I know I'll take and it's fine if it makes
Kelsey feel more peaceful, good on him. Yeah, And I
usually choose the side of come on, dude, yeah, of
(01:00:00):
not letting that happen. But you start talking about my
kids and getting personal in my life or somebody else's
life or in Kelsey's life, and I talk about if
they said something to you or about your fans, You're
damn right, I'm gonna react.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Yeah, oill Sean, you can't do that. Try me.
Speaker 6 (01:00:13):
It's happened before. Asked the two guys asked the guy
in Philly who took a bitch slap to the face
all the way back to Philly from Jacksonville by saying
something that he shouldn't have said in front of everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Ruth Chris Restaurant to.
Speaker 6 (01:00:27):
This day, It's still one of my all time Hall
of Famer right open face slaps right in his bitch
ass face. That left the general manager of the building
escorting him out and saying it's the best thing I've
ever seen.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
So there you go.
Speaker 6 (01:00:42):
And no, I don't promote violentating, but sometimes instead of
cower in the corner and be a little bitch about it,
somebody needs to be addressed and have a little fear
in their heart that you just don't get to say
and do whatever you want without consequences. And I'll take
my consequences however they come. I've been there. Ain't nothing
you can do or say to the rock bottom. I've
already seen period. But guess what you overload your mouth
(01:01:05):
with your ass, Guess what you get to do. You
get to actually greet me in person, and that I
promise you to God as I sit here now, that
I will be in that building addressing him this week
and give him an opportunity to tell me exactly what
he said on Twitter and my right to me. Of
course he's not, but he'll get tracked down by me, okay,
(01:01:26):
or I'll start drinking carback.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
One of the two.
Speaker 6 (01:01:28):
Now that's a representative of that come you imagine and
then spending a far more than six figures at this place.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
And that guy wants to do that. And I looked
it up.
Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
Thing who is and I said, oh, yeah, he's the
guy who wore a shirt four size is too small?
That guy you know, the guy I'm talking about. Yea,
and it ain't it's four sizes too small and not
in the right places. Does that make sense?
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Yeah? So I'll leave at that.
Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
But he's going to get to say all the things
he wants to say to me in person, and I
talk about my kids and my family and me and
bring up the anything he wants in my past. I'm
will to give him an opportunity face to face. He's
not going and then I'm gonna bear he's not going to.
But with Kelsey, I don't think he owed an apology.
I think the guy apologies. I don't. I don't promote VI.
He didn't do Anythingvice slammed the phone to the ground.
Go buy your own phone if you think you got
(01:02:09):
the thing, and do you use the f F Oh
why why are we criticizing the guy for using get
gay slurs and the rest of him?
Speaker 5 (01:02:16):
So that's the whole thing that I that I have
a big, big problem with with this situation. First of all,
Jason Kelsey, oh is nobody in apology. I don't give
a damn what anybody said. If you're upset because of
the get over which that he get.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Over, well you'll get over it. Your kids here worse the.
Speaker 5 (01:02:28):
The The second thing that I have an issue with
is this younger generation of kids and their social media.
And I don't want to sound like a boomer because
I'm only thirty five years old.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
I can get the social media.
Speaker 5 (01:02:39):
My point is, what did the kid expect going up
to Jason Kelsey with the phone in his face and
screaming at him about his brother and he's Kelsey didn't
whoop his ass.
Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
Or at least grab him around the nap of the
neck and skin don't talk about my family. Can you
imagine if Kelsey would have gone up and just grabbed
him a little bit and went after him. Yeah, quickly
he'd ran behind his buddies and or pete himself. Yes,
of course he would have. So these kids on violent,
but sometimes you just got to send a out message
that keyboard guess what.
Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
Right, it's it's it's these kids in their social media
and they think that there's no consequences just because you
run up on somebody and put a phone in their face.
Speaker 6 (01:03:14):
YEA, well, it's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be awesome.
I mean, Kelsey, I get it, and and you know what, No,
but he didn't need to do that to apologize. Buy
have a new phone after he apologized to you for
dropping the gay the f gay slur and then talk
about your friend. Listen, when it comes, I'll suffer the
consequence of when comes to protecting my kids and my
family and my friends. And if you got a problem
with it, corporate executive or anybody else that filters on down.
(01:03:37):
I'm easy to friggin find And guess what your days
of being able to cancel people are over, especially when
the people that try to support you and not only
your career, but what you do that's impossible to do
now and plus stage in your life.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
Where can't be canceled.
Speaker 6 (01:03:53):
Brother, right, Okay, already been I've already been that way, Okay, Okay,
try to try to get it on audition on TV.
Take me seventy years, Okay, don't need to do that,
but I'm happy right where I'm at. But I'm on
team Kelsey. That prick wouldn't have got an apology for me. No, absolutely,
And Nora is the guy he's gonna owe me apology.
But you got to get a chance to hand me
one of those little spindle tap beers right across from
(01:04:14):
the beer. Uh, mister director research and develop, He about
to research and develop my He about to research and
develop a little deeper into my life because he's going
to need to when I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Yeah, crazy man reading this interaction, What are we doing?
They think they whatever comes out of their.
Speaker 6 (01:04:28):
Mouth, they're protected by Oh until person just happens to
live in your town.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Yeah, and be in your pressent right down the road.
Oh my goodness. Seven seven.
Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
We'll get out to the phone lines and take your call.
It looks like a lot of people want to get
in on this Jason Kelsey comment. Also, Robert, we see
you holding there. We'll get to you next. Continue to
talk about the Texans. Let's uh, let's keep brawling right here,
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
He's not He's not going to be there, dude. He
gets every listen.
Speaker 6 (01:04:58):
I love to give opportunity to guy it it wasn't
to talk to me about this person. Well, he's gonna
get the chance. He's gonna get the chance. I promise
you that Kelsey didn't need to apologize that guy. He's
lucky he didn't get his ass whooped.
Speaker 5 (01:05:12):
I know, I know, if you're a kid, what what
do you except? Actually you know me, I'm not going
up to Jason Kelsey and run in my mouth.
Speaker 6 (01:05:20):
Well the reason why you do that because you know
if he comes over hits me, all assume he deserved that.
What he should have done is to go after him
a little bit and scared him, grabbed by his T
shirt and make watch the guy yeurinate down on his
legs so he could suffer the embarrassing while everybody else's
videotape and his stupidity. Okay, you don't get carte blanche.
What happens is, well, you can't promote us to screw
your violence. I mean, it's not abount violence. You don't
(01:05:44):
get the opportunity to talk about family or kids. Now,
he didn't hit him, which is a wise movie. He
probably would have wanted to take that one back, slamming
the guy's phone now's probably good that that kid probably
needs a new a phone. Go get a flip phone
and leave Kelsey and his family alone. Kay, exactly, But
I love to see guys the second. It's amazing how
many times that happens. Duden't like, I'm telling you where
(01:06:05):
it's that guy who flips you off and cuts you off,
and then then you happen to pull into the same
grocery store parking lot and you get out of the
car and he decides he doesn't need groceries at days
and drives away.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
Just how karma finds you, like the ball finds a rookie. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
And I guarantee this guy hmmm, oh that's right.
Speaker 6 (01:06:23):
Kelsey's Oh that's Kelly. Oh that's that's the guy works
down the street and actually endorses our beer.
Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Huh. And I'm the head of research and development. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
Not wise, not wise, because then you know how we
say put up or shut up? Yeah, show up or
what show out? They get an opportunity to show up, Well,
that's just gonna be I get to go to his place,
he's not going to be there.
Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
I'm even gonna be convenient to go to his place
and just show up and say thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:06:50):
He's not gonna be there.
Speaker 6 (01:06:51):
Yeah, well that's okay, that's fine, But I Kelsey shouldn't
have apologized.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
No, he had no reason to apologize. Yep seven seven.
Back on to the phone line. Start with Robert, Robert,
thank you for holding.
Speaker 8 (01:07:03):
Good morning, Hey, Sean, Hey, Brian, Hey, I have a
quick question for you. As a quarterback, Sean, would you
prefer an offensive line or would you prefer a wide receiver?
And then I have another question for you guys. I
saw on the odds that it was like the Lions
are only favored by two and a half, and I
know the Texans like normally the home team gets three.
(01:07:25):
So I just found that interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Yeah, oh, I think it's gonna be a close thing. Sorry,
I'm running. Oh, no problem.
Speaker 6 (01:07:30):
We can tell you're getting your exercise in brother, No problem.
Enjoy be safe out there. I didn't think the spread
would be higher than three.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
I didn't either. I thought, oh no, I'm sorry. I
thought it would be actual. Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
On the road, I didn't think it would be that
much because things are going well. The Texans are good
at home. Stroud play, this team plays better at home,
so I get Now we'll see how the movement goes between.
Now it's on Sunday night right on how the line moves.
But I personally, to answer Robert's questions quarterback, I believe
great offensive line play if you have a really good quarterback,
(01:08:03):
like the Texans do, great offensive line play can take
an average receiver making better Why you got more time
to deliver the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
It always starts there.
Speaker 6 (01:08:11):
Great quarterbacks with good receivers, they can make them even better.
Great quarterbacks with average receivers turn them into pretty good,
and great quarterbacks with great receivers and they have a
chance to win off. But great quarterback with great receivers
and a line that doesn't protect you the great the
receivers become average because by the time you're finished, he's
on his ass. So Robert, to answer your question, I'll
(01:08:33):
always start inside out big boys first, perimeter people second. Now,
once I know the big boys are sewn up, I'm
as greedy as it gets. Give me eight of them
wide receivers. But when it's one, like if there was
a major need at both for me offensive line first
receiver second. In this case, I think it's to say
(01:08:54):
spect Kenyon Green's out they've got to have something that
a light of fire under their ass to get them
rolling in pass pro because it's not working right now
and they can't win a championship with the quarterback feeling
like he is, So give me the give me the
lineman first, receiver second.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
I'm greedy.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
I want both those same. Yeah, that's that's how I feel.
Definitely offensive lineman first, though. Doctor Dennis. Dennis appreciate you allhim.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Good morning, Hey, good morning fellas.
Speaker 20 (01:09:22):
Yeah, I just had a comment about the Kelsey thing. Yeah,
Kelsey had nothing to apologize for. That kid was basically
go ating him, trying to get his fifteen minutes of
fame and then trying to get a potential lawsuit from him.
And then I'm not sure if you guys saw the
James Franklin video where he was walking out the field
and a couple of fans came up to him jobbing
a couple of F bombs and stuff like that. I
(01:09:44):
don't understand fans nowadays. They take it way too seriously.
Penn State going to that game was third of the nation, undefeated.
It's not like they're playing sisters with the poor. They're
playing Ohio State, which happened to be fourth ranked in
the country, and so they lose, and then the tire
ambience is basically booing him, telling him he needs to
get fired. I just don't understand fans nowadays.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
They take sports way too seriously.
Speaker 20 (01:10:07):
Some of these people need to go out and get
some hobbies, maybe take a quilting or something I.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Don't know, or get laid that help. That might help
him too.
Speaker 20 (01:10:16):
Yeah, yes, I mean, I love my I love my teams,
but I'm not gonna go tell PJ. Fleck, you know,
you know, go fly a kite or tell Kevin O'Connell
you suck.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
I just don't understand it.
Speaker 6 (01:10:27):
So tennis, we can't say it better than that. Man
add to it, you're you're exactly right, and it's not
a Most fans are really good and they get it.
You get your over zealous, mouthy ones and everybody. If
you want to boom boo, you want to do it.
But when they start to get to the personal stuff,
you're exactly right. You have one of the best teams
in America and you're just happen to get beat by
a team that's got the most talented team in America.
(01:10:47):
Ohio State and now you want to fire all James Franklin,
stop it just and then you start slinging, you know,
all the stuff you sling it and get personal and
all that. If you just said all the team sucks
and keep going to James Franklin doesn't care about that.
If if he did, he'd hire the fans sitting in
the fifteenth throw who doesn't, no squat. Most fans are
really good and know and are smart and intelligent. But
you'll run into ten percent of them that think that
(01:11:08):
they can run the team better, play better, or have
the balls to get over zealous with their mouth or
their their their their physicality or lack thereof, and have
no accountability on the recourse because they think nobody do
because he's exactly because they think, oh, I'm gonna pin
him down, make him hit me and then go see
(01:11:30):
him and make myself some money. But you can actually
send a loud message without punching the guy in the
face or fear or you punch the face and deal
with the deal with because every now and then, I
hate to say it, somebody and all Sean, that's fine it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
There are plenty of people who deserve a straight right
hook to the face.
Speaker 20 (01:11:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:11:46):
Sometimes, and then there are some out there who aren't
worried about the consequences, are afraid to give it to them.
Speaker 7 (01:11:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
I just just you know what, Look, you know what
it is f them kids. Man, Well, it's not even
just kids.
Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
Oh, there's plenty of When I say, well, there's plenty
of forty fifty year olds, ald adult, You'll take three
beers and think that they're a little tougher than they are, right,
and a right hook to the face settles out real quick.
And then you pick them up, dust them off, and
set them down and say, you know, put the hat
over their head and say have a nice sleep.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:12:16):
Yeah, oh, man, seven seven, I will keep on taking
your calls. Uh, what's gonna what's what's the latest in
the NFL trade deadline. There's been a move Lions adding some.
Speaker 6 (01:12:27):
Shock a good team, got better think about it real quick, bright, Yeah,
Chiefs went out and got two guys, correct, Baltimore Ravens
went out and got a guy the receiver. The Detroit
Lions hutches out. He decided, you want to ramp up
your your your pass rush, you go get a guy.
Who are the three best teams in the league in
your mind right now.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Uh, the Lions, the Chiefs, the Ravens, and they all
just got better. Let that be an example for the
rest of the day.
Speaker 5 (01:12:53):
Let's talk about it next on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Salisbury, Kenneth, good morning,
welcome in.
Speaker 9 (01:13:07):
Remember one, I had a couple of things, man, But first, Brian,
you go to a lot of weddings.
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
To be careful son at that moment.
Speaker 9 (01:13:17):
No, but listen, but seriously, man, it's women at these weddings,
and they looking for you. Man, this guy man, and
you're gonna find yourself, this middle aged guy hide not
there in the garage, wondering how you got into this.
But I'm warning you be careful. I like, yeah, and
(01:13:42):
uh what I wanted to come in on this Kelsey thing.
And I can't help but to think about what Jackie
Robinson went through and and for that matter, I can
I can remember some game but the Chemo Lodge one
when they was on they run. I remember of times
he had people almost in his ear yelling, and this
(01:14:03):
dude had a way of like he was in a bubble.
Speaker 21 (01:14:08):
But when you when you're in the spotlight, you really
got to put.
Speaker 9 (01:14:11):
Yourself in a bubble until somebody really invade your space.
And I would tell this, Kelsey, boy, man, you gotta
call you gotta call on what the great was done,
because you want to be great, you gotta do great things.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Man, you gotta block it out, you gotta you gotta
walk around in a bubble, you know.
Speaker 9 (01:14:34):
And I just had to say that because you know,
right now, I can't even watch a KC game for
I had to. I'm scared for Kelsey to catch his
brother to catch a ball because I gotta look up.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
There and see something.
Speaker 9 (01:14:48):
I really, I'm just ready getting tired of looking at
her and and uh but I just wanted to come
in on that.
Speaker 7 (01:14:56):
Thank you, Thank you, Kenneth, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Oh yeah, and you listen, there's time and a place
for it all.
Speaker 6 (01:15:03):
And you do got to rise. And literally that's the problem.
You got to walk around at a bubble. Sometimes you
can't even walk through it. And he's just walking through
a crowd trying to be a good dude, right and
the phone and you do. You have to resist the
temptation to want to knock somebody out every time. But
you never know when a guy sees that red when
you push him too far and start talking. When you
make it listens, See that's my delineation, the delineation between
(01:15:26):
the two. You make it personal, and you have the
guts to stand there in person and make it personal.
Don't you have the guts to deal with the circumstance,
the pay the return. Yeah, and you got to be smart.
But sometimes you never know, Like they say, what somebody's
going through, and then you start talking about family or kids.
You don't know what the limits are for each and
(01:15:49):
every one of us individuals, see, because some of us
don't care what you think.
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
You know what I mean? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:15:55):
And where you're going to go with this? If you
got the guts to drop those slurs and do that
in person on somebody who would eat you for breakfast,
And you think you know what I'm saying?
Speaker 7 (01:16:06):
La?
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:16:07):
So I don't think he owned an apology? Think the guy,
oh's an apology to Kelsey? He probably next time won't
slam the phone down, but I can replace a phone.
The guy doesn't recognize that his nose misplaced on his
face probably wouldn't be a good idea, because one day
you're gonna run into somebody who doesn't have as much
patience as Kelsey does. Because that was patient to just
take the phone as opposed to that guy. You never
(01:16:28):
know when you're gonna run to that guy who says,
you know what, not today, son, and then you're gonna
get tested.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
I don't think Kelsey own an apology. Good on him
that he made it. Yeah that's not me. Yeah for
Jason Kelsey told just slam his phone, the kid's phone.
Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
Yeah, like that's a that's an accomplishment because I don't know, man,
he gets to a certain point if you start spouting
off stuff. I've got two sisters. If you start spouting
off stuff about my sisters well and my kids or
my parents, then for me, yeah, we're gonna have a
b See. Then I don't think about the circumstances at
you don't.
Speaker 6 (01:17:01):
You can talk crap about me and say all the
stuff you suck as a player, can't stand yourself?
Speaker 5 (01:17:05):
What that?
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
That doesn't bother me.
Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
Now you decide to grab me or decide to touch
one of my family members, start talking there.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
See that That's what I always say, whether it's.
Speaker 6 (01:17:12):
Talking about a player, if you don't make anything personal
and none of it ever bothers me, who you vote for,
who your team is, all that stuff. The second across
the line of personal, you're telling me that you don't
care about the results, or the or the or the
bite back, right, And some people bark and some people bite.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
I'm not a good barker. I mean I can.
Speaker 6 (01:17:33):
I can bark, but I can't do it very long. No,
maybe it's a weakness of mind, but a weakness I'm
belt willing to change. Yet I don't even bark these nuts. Oh,
before we get into the eight o'clock hour, let's talk
to Brandon. Brandon, good morning, Good.
Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
Morning, Brian, Good morning, Sean.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
How you guys, We're well?
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
Hey Watts won?
Speaker 6 (01:18:01):
Yep, they did. What's your what's your cand Did you
watch it? Did you watch the game?
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
I watched the repeat of it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
What was your favorite thing about the game? Give give
us that didn't see it some insight?
Speaker 15 (01:18:17):
I missed Yeah, I missed it, but we watched the repeat.
Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
Oh you'll watch the repeat. I got you, Okay, I
got you.
Speaker 7 (01:18:23):
Oh sweep.
Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
Football. Texans needs to.
Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
Throwing and we need some But why Ze needs to
catch the football?
Speaker 5 (01:18:41):
They sure do, Brandon, Yeah, they gotta you know what,
wide receiver, their job catch the football.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
They gotta catch it.
Speaker 6 (01:18:46):
And they gotta go finish and get the end zone
because it's going to take points against Detroit.
Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
That's for sure. That is for sure.
Speaker 6 (01:18:52):
Yep, appreciate you, Brandon. Enjoyed the day, you, buddy, appreciate it.
Be safe out there. Today's a good day. I let
the rain detory from getting out to the polls. You
know what I'm saying, watch games hopefully the trade deadline.
Three teams have making. Three teams that have made trade
deadline stuff already. I think that Cincinnati traded for my
(01:19:14):
buddy Q, who comes on this show, traded for a
running back, gave up a seventh round pick to the Bears.
They get the Bengals want to get better, try to
upgrade their teams. So teams are moving, and the three
best teams in football, in my opinion, have all three
made moves either pre today or today to get themselves better.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
There you go Herbert first seventh round pick headed to
the Bengals running back from the Bears.
Speaker 6 (01:19:39):
You also had Cadarius Smith would says.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:19:45):
Zadarius Smith, defensive end for the Browns has been traded
to the Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
So they saw a need. They found a weakness with
Hutchinson out, They upgraded with Hutchinson out. There you go.
So best teams in the NFL are getting better.
Speaker 6 (01:20:03):
No, I don't know if they'll be able to pull
it off because it takes a two way street. You
got get somebody who wants to deal with you.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Yeah. I can't imagine Nick Cassa is not at least
fielding or making calls.
Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
Yeah, we we got to talk about the Texans and
this trade deadline, because the deadline is today at three o'clock.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Are they going to make a move. That's next?
Speaker 4 (01:20:19):
Kd E Houston, k t V HD two Houston, my
heart radio station.
Speaker 18 (01:20:24):
Yes, that's a Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your home
for your home team.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
Salisbury Hot, Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:20:49):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
Rockets beat the Knicks last night, Chiefs stay undefeated. They
beat the Tampa Bay Bucks in overtime. Astros make a
qualifying offer for Alex Bregman. Also, NFL trade deadline is
three pm Central today. The Lions acquired defensive end Zadarius
Smith from the Browns. The Bengals add a running back,
(01:21:17):
Khalil Herbert getting sent to Cincinnati from the Bears for
a seventh rounder. Will the Texans make any moves? We're
gonna talk about that this segment. Some things starting to
fire up in the NFL with this trade deadline. Obviously,
the Chiefs had added DeAndre Hopkins prior to the trade deadline.
The Ravens added a player. I mean, those two teams
(01:21:38):
are the best two teams in the NFL. Obviously, the
Lions are arguably the best team, and they just got
better today. Will the Texans make a move? They should.
If I'm Nick Cassario, my batphone's ringing off the hook,
what are you willing to give up? I don't give
a damn what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
They're still kids. So what do you want? First? There
we go.
Speaker 6 (01:21:56):
You want a running back? I mean a safety? Do
you want a receiver? You want offensive line?
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
I one offensive line at first?
Speaker 6 (01:22:02):
Okay, is there anybody who's put out a list on
one of these gurus that say who's availa who may
be available as offensive line? You know what I'm saying,
Like a trade deadline guru who says these names that
they've heard like a chefter saying these names could be available.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
Do we have any of that?
Speaker 6 (01:22:19):
If you're in the hunt, why trade an offensive lineman?
They are precious and you need them. If you're out
of it, what kind of lineman are you going to trade?
And what's the asking price? Because if the guy makes
too much money but he's underachieving, or if he's a
good player and you're just trying to fire sale your
team and just get movement and go, okay, what's it
going to take to get a top flight offensive lineman
(01:22:41):
off a bad team? They do exist, So what will
it take? Let's see the third round pick, fourth round pick,
second round pick. What are you going to give up?
And how many of those guys are you aint gett
Ronnie Stanley from Baltimore? You and I both know that,
all right, So let me just say one thing while
you're looking that up. One last We said it yesterday.
(01:23:04):
If they're going to get to the super Bowl or
win the Super Bowl, guess what that means.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
They're winning it? What's in house? And I'm talking about
healthy in house?
Speaker 6 (01:23:11):
When getting Nico Collins back, they're gonna win it with
what's in house, and you and I both know it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
The guy out there that you want.
Speaker 6 (01:23:19):
Is probably on a really good team right now, or
maybe cost too much or they're not going to trade him.
Speaker 2 (01:23:24):
But the guys you're now you may go get some depth.
Speaker 6 (01:23:26):
But regardless of what happens today, the guy under center,
the offensive line, the you know halfway through, you guys
are gonna have to come in and learn new verbiage.
Whatever you get a Nico Collins back, you've got it,
you know, depleted with the loss of digs, but you've
got a wide receiver room that can be formidable with
pass protection so he can deliver it. And you've got
(01:23:48):
a defensive flies around and is getting playing in your backfield.
If you're going to get where you're going, you're gonna
do it with the guys in the building now. The
job would be easier if there's some stud you can
get it wide receiver or offensive line to help you.
But if we're looking for some magical potion in the
NFL at trade deadline, that guy doesn't exist, because let's
(01:24:09):
go get a quarter You don't need a quarterback, and
people don't trade good quarterbacks trade deadline that are on
good teams, that are stars, right, and you don't need
them here. The Raiders or somebody else may need one
of those guys, but you don't need them. So if
you're gonna win it, the guys over there on Kirby're
in the building. If they're gonna win it, and the
coaching staff as well, they're just gonna have to suck
it up and get to another level in play calling,
(01:24:31):
in the tech technique and teaching, and the players in execution.
Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
It's really that simple.
Speaker 6 (01:24:36):
The execution has been lacking in certain positions this year,
and other parts it's been phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (01:24:42):
All right, So let's see. Excuse me, I've got some
offensive linemens. So the number one basically when it comes
to I've read through several different articles from Draft Guru, CBS,
Sports USA Today, Sports, NFL dot Com.
Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Uh Nate Davis.
Speaker 5 (01:25:01):
I mentioned him earlier in the show. He is with
the Bears, and it looks like also Andres Pete he
is with the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (01:25:15):
His name has been bantered. I've heard that banteat about
a couple of times over the last few weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:25:21):
You also have a couple of other names Brandon Schurf,
former pro bowler, he's currently with the Jaguars, and a
and a good player Joe Noteboom with the Rams. And
then another Jaguars offensive lineman, Walker Little. So there's a couple, a.
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
Little former local kid. I think Walker Little.
Speaker 5 (01:25:42):
Is a.
Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
Is he an Episcopal kid? Let's Stanford grad? Might lose
my mind?
Speaker 5 (01:25:50):
Another sorry, another guy? Let me give this another guy,
Daniel Brunskill. He's uh, he's Tennessee. He's with Tennessee. So
kim off the list because Tennessee would never do a
deal with The text.
Speaker 6 (01:26:02):
Was Walker Little Walker, little local or maybe Kincaid or
little high School.
Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
Let's do a little tail walker, little local kid, Stanford guy.
Speaker 5 (01:26:12):
If I'm not mistaken watching, he did play college football
at Stanford and he went to Episcopal High School.
Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
So that was a first at first. Yeah, so it
was a pretty pretty high draft pick.
Speaker 6 (01:26:22):
So, yeah, some guys that can depth because the truth is,
how many teams from here on are going to have
all five guys up front playing starting or playing every
play of every game.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
They're not. So you need a little depth there.
Speaker 5 (01:26:34):
Yeah, get some depth, get some competition, change it up
a little bit in that room. Man, get some dogs
in there. You know, dogs are dogs?
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
Dogs?
Speaker 6 (01:26:43):
How do you spell it? D A W G S
exactly right. Dogs would be guys that you want to
get out of. Well, if you get a dog, Oh, man,
that guy's a dog.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
We need more dolls. But if he's a d if
he's a d G S, you want him out because
he's a dog, and get him out. Give me a dog.
You need a W G right, I feel you d
A W G yeah, maybe with a Z at the end.
We need more dolls. Yeah, that's the d A W
G Z. I like that. Yeah, I'm with you on that.
Are you picking up what I'm putting down? Always?
Speaker 5 (01:27:14):
That's what I'm talking about. Let's talk to Biscer, real quick, biscuit,
Good morning, Hey.
Speaker 21 (01:27:19):
Top of the morning. My brother's singing in the rain.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Oh yeah it's a rain man.
Speaker 17 (01:27:27):
Hey.
Speaker 12 (01:27:28):
Shot.
Speaker 21 (01:27:29):
There's a general manager around the league. Manager don't know
what the hell he doing. And he got uh left guard. No,
it's right, he has a right guard. It might be available,
Jerry call man, mar.
Speaker 6 (01:27:43):
Oh, yeah, you know what if they're gonna if they're
gonna their quarterbacks hurt, they're trying to move on, you
might be right, go pluck to Zach Martin for the Cowboys,
and you instantly get better there. I could guarantee that
that's great. That's what I'm wanting to pay for that one. Yes, sir,
I'm with him.
Speaker 21 (01:28:01):
If you shot hey, BG called Jerry round about three
o'clock after he had a couple of cocktail.
Speaker 6 (01:28:09):
I'm all in on that one. That'd be a day.
That'd be a great steal. At about three point fifteen
before or two forty five, Jerry did that? How that
sound that single bault taste? Now, by the way, can
we have Zach Martin for a third round or a
fourth rounder? Yeah, we'll send him over to you guys
and'll be ready to play on Sunday night against Detroit Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
We're in, yes, sir, I got you, and.
Speaker 21 (01:28:29):
And he'll play against those the following Monday.
Speaker 7 (01:28:32):
That's Jerry.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
Oh yeah, oh yeah. Let him come dominate us a
few weeks later, right, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 21 (01:28:40):
I'll tell you what, man, after watching the game last night, Man,
and I don't understand the NFL, man, because why would
you trade somebody to the two time defending Jim And
now this is that might just clinch it for him
man getting de hooped like that.
Speaker 6 (01:28:57):
Yeah, and't not your favorite thing. Hey, the best team
in league, let's just send a guy there to make
him better. So we still get to So so the
gaps extended between how good they are and and it
was an a I mean, a guy from the AFC
goes there. It's like, oh, you know what, we want
to see Kansas City and Andy just keep winning. So
let's go get him a guy who you know is
going to play better with the quarterback that he has.
(01:29:17):
It's only you know, Hopkins is gonna put and eight
catches later, It's like, are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:29:23):
Why did somebody just wake up this morning and send
him four other players for for nothing for compensation? I mean, yeah,
what are we doing here? Just make the best better?
It's sick, you're right, yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:29:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 21 (01:29:34):
And as far as the Chickens, I don't think they
can get a lineman, like you say, what lineman is
actually other than maybe Terry. But but they could get
a receiver. I think Mike Williams, I think I think
be ready to give it. Him and the hit at
QB ain't on the same page.
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
You might be right, that may be somebody they can
part with. That's a good point by your brother.
Speaker 21 (01:29:57):
But yeah, man, I was just chicking in with y'all.
Speaker 7 (01:29:59):
Man, there you go, you.
Speaker 6 (01:30:03):
Better be listening. There you go ahead, Thanks man, appreciate
it that good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
Cooper Rush is our quarterback, you know. Dak's gonna be
out for a.
Speaker 5 (01:30:12):
Couple of weeks, you know, and CD is dealing with
an ac joint injury.
Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
Uh, CD's nuts. He got that phrase from from h Digs.
From Digs, you know, and and uh, look, CD might
be out for a week.
Speaker 19 (01:30:31):
Get ready to go in about six seven days. Nothing
else will yep.
Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
And Cooper Rush is our quarterback. Yeah, can you believe
saying that? Again? Cooper Rush is literally their quarterback?
Speaker 7 (01:30:41):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:30:41):
Jack's injury a little more different, a little hurt more
than thought. Oh and I'll tell you what suck on
that for a week.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
You've got to deal with pluses and minuses. We're gonna
find out I get you ready or not? There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:30:56):
Know. And hey, you know, Salsbery, you know, if you
ain't gonna ask me the right questionestions, I'll remove your ass.
Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
Sure you will, j Jerah, Okay, sure you will remove
your ass. Sure you will.
Speaker 6 (01:31:08):
Win a few games in a championship, all the way
back to where I was like a rookie in the
league and then come see me.
Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
Okay, then we could talk about that.
Speaker 5 (01:31:15):
The pluses and the minuses. But it's not minuses, it's minusses.
So but you got that cut has got to be
in there somewhere. We got to do pluses and the minuses,
and you know the ex'es and the o's and the
Jimmy's and Joe's, you know. But but I must confess
Cooper's Cooper Rush is a good quarterback. And he's gonna
it's not Trey Lance. Okay, it's gonna be Cooper Rush.
Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
We might try to trade for Russell Wilson. We might
go get him. I don't know. Look, Mike McCarthy, well we.
Speaker 19 (01:31:46):
Got a minus going right now, don't real bigs.
Speaker 6 (01:31:49):
Hey, we got to mind this. I'm gonna tell you
right now, Mike, Mike, Mike's done a fine job here.
His job's safe for now. I'm gonna extend him. I
did it with Dak and CD, so why.
Speaker 2 (01:31:59):
Not do with mine, Mike?
Speaker 5 (01:32:01):
You know, Mike, Look, Mike is a yes man, and
that's the only guy I'm hiring and he doesn't.
Speaker 6 (01:32:05):
Have to rock the boat, refuse to hire anybody who
wants more power than me.
Speaker 5 (01:32:09):
And the last I looked, we're making ninety five billion
dollars a year, so why why do I need to
put a.
Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
Good No, there is no argument there's stick to that.
Speaker 19 (01:32:21):
Money that it's possible for Rush to come in here
and play at the level of win games the way
Prescott did when he took over for Romo.
Speaker 7 (01:32:30):
Yes I do, Yes, I did.
Speaker 2 (01:32:32):
I certainly think that's possible.
Speaker 6 (01:32:34):
That was what two years ago, right two years ago,
and it's it resonates right now too.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
His quarter.
Speaker 5 (01:32:39):
He's gonna say the same damn thing today on his
on his weekly segment with the Boys.
Speaker 2 (01:32:43):
I believe?
Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
Do I do? I believe that Cooper Rush is going
to come in just like Romo did Hey for Drew
Bletsoe and when Dak came in for Romo.
Speaker 7 (01:32:53):
I do.
Speaker 5 (01:32:54):
We got a couple of pluses going on with this
lot of look some pluses, and that's the marketing. It's
skyrocketed because we have so much money coming.
Speaker 6 (01:33:03):
In even in losing, my franchise is going up in
value and it stays went, well, why do I need
a product. Why would I need to put a good product.
I'm thinking about suiting up myself. You ever, Yeah, never mind,
I'm gonna go off on a Stephen.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Stephen told me I passed the v O two max
on the treadmill. I got a hyperbaric chamber that I
can you know, I can recover.
Speaker 6 (01:33:25):
I went over at a single mault, and uh, I
got my breath back quick. I can give you a
few plays, or I can tap out like Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Maybe you know Richardson tapped them and it looked like
he was tired. Now we don't have been there in
the sheets a few times. I tapped our dogs and
then I just knocked down another blue dart and we
get after it.
Speaker 6 (01:33:44):
But let's get back to the an elephant in the room,
Cooper Rushes. It was a minus for us, I mean
a plus my bath.
Speaker 19 (01:33:51):
And it's possible for Rush to come in here and
play at a level and win games and the way
Prescott did when he took over for Romo.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
Yes, I do, yes, I do, Yes, I do.
Speaker 5 (01:34:01):
Hey, let's get to break and I want to talk
about Baker Mayfield doing what he did last night without
his two top receivers. So tell me why Houston's offense
can't do the same damn thing when it comes to
the Texans.
Speaker 6 (01:34:13):
That's next, Trajan Well, maybe everybody just needs to hire
trades well so you can make money, like.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):

Speaker 2 (01:36:16):
They're done. The courtesy flush is old ways appreciated. Thank God,
Thank the good Lord.
Speaker 17 (01:36:21):
Thank you from the management team here at Sports Talk
seven night back to Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 5 (01:36:29):
Gary, Welcome in, Gary, Gosh danks Son you know trip
lecvie's there.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Unbelievable. Come on man, Gary, noep we move. Imagine just
going on hold just to not say anything like fiddle
with your what are you fiddling with? What would what?
Speaker 7 (01:37:01):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:37:03):
I can't do that, all right, excuse me.
Speaker 5 (01:37:06):
Baker Mayfield last night played really really good football. Did
not have his top weapons in Mike Evans and Chris
Godwin both are hurt, and they moved the ball offensively
against that Chiefs team.
Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
Sucks.
Speaker 5 (01:37:24):
They didn't get a chance in overtime obviously because of
the rules. Baker Mayfield last night twenty three or thirty one,
two hundred yards two touchdowns. Now you look at the numbers,
two hundred yards, eh okay. They ran the football nineteen
times ninety five yards. But listen to these wide receiver
Sean Sterling, Shepherd, Trey Palmer, Rashad White, and Kate Oughten.
(01:37:47):
Kate otten tight end led the team in receiving yards
eight receptions, seventy seven yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 6 (01:37:52):
So what are you saying? They're not wowing you on paper? Correct,
they are not wowing me on paper. But against a good,
well not good, a great Cans, a city team maybe Okay,
they're they're good this year, beatable.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
Yeah, they're not going undefeated. Let's just put it that way.
Really good though, Why can't the Texans do the same
damn thing? And you know what this is? This is
where I want to get into it.
Speaker 6 (01:38:17):
And Reid helps you're talking about the Tampa Bay Buccanets
and helps them with their because they are similar receivers.
Adon Hopkins was a big help, right Why but.
Speaker 5 (01:38:27):
For the Tampa Bay Bucks and Baker Mayfield can do
it without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin agreed. And the
play calling that I saw last night there was a
lot of two to three step drops get the ball out.
Speaker 6 (01:38:36):
Well, you know he specializes getting the ball out in
a quick game for him, right, that where he doesn't
have to hold it and try to be a hero
when he's doing boom boom boom, slant out of the
gun boom. Wants to get to get the ball out now,
little play action when I'll come in off play action
and getting him on the edge. See how often they'll
change his launch point. Yeah, there's no doubt there. Kate listen,
this is not a hack receiver room, right, I got
(01:38:59):
news for you now. That receiver room is better than
the current Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver room. But if you
don't have time to set, deliver, and finish routes, what
do you got to do? Okay, then we've got to
shorten what we're doing, get the ball out quicker. But
in the process, we still got to create lanes and
give a quarterback a chance to go through his reads
and his decision making right, so they can Brian listen,
can we get a Nico Collins back? Can you survive
(01:39:21):
without making a receiver decision?
Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
You can?
Speaker 6 (01:39:24):
You absolutely can because with experience, whether it's Hutchinson or
Matchi elevating their play. Good quarterbacks help guys elevate, right,
they just do. But it's hard to elevate if the
pressure is there all the time because you don't get
through your reads. So there's a little bit of everything.
I think it's far tougher to win a championship without
(01:39:45):
upfront great blocking and great tackling than I do having an.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
Extra receiver that's a superstar I do.
Speaker 6 (01:39:53):
I feel like from my perspective back there, I would
think that the offensive line's got.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
To be the top priority. Yeah, there's no doubt and
getting it right, there's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
And if you know what, if they don't make a
move and you still have the same offensive line, Bobby
slog has got to adjust the play calling. There's no doubt.
I understand you want to run the football with Joe
Mixon every time he.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
Will have to and you still have to. That'll help
the protection control the ground game. I get it.
Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
But there's no excuse for Bobby Sloan in the Houston
Texans to not make adjustments after seeing what Baker Mayfield
did last night, or without his two top guys.
Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
We're far enough in the season the adjustments show that
they should happen on the fly. Yeah, you're far enough
into the season to understand what you're right now. You're
telling me teams don't know what their identity is and
there or the lack thereof. And certain they've got some
great identity here, but the one weakness in pass protection
is holding this back. And with that, the quarterback starts
(01:40:51):
to execute and think a little different. You don't have
time to get that, you get your receiver or too hurt.
So what's the coordinator's n actual reaction, natural reaction? How
do why you become a little bit less aggressive because
you're concerned that your quarterback can't hold the ball on, Well,
then he's got to make the adjustment of Okay, how
do I get out of my concerns and still stay
aggressive without pushing the ball down the field every single
(01:41:12):
to drop him back deep getting the ball out. They're
going to have to instill more screen, more quick game,
and still run the football. They just are and this
team should be as good a play action team like
Baltimore as there is in a league. Why because you
have to stop run first when you play them, or
Mixon is going to hammer you. He's one of the
best hammers in the league. You have to stop run first,
(01:41:34):
Which is baffling to me that by running the ball
as effectively as they are.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
There should be.
Speaker 6 (01:41:39):
You should be able to buy more time in the
pocket and your decisions. That's the most baffling thing. If
it's a bad protection team, A lot of times it's because, well,
we can't run the ball man. You're dropping back every time.
Everybody knows the t off on you when you run
it like they do. They should not be able to
get off the ball as cleanly as they do, which
they're also obviously seeing tendencies whatever those are for the
defense that they're allowing them. Say oh, they're going to
(01:42:01):
throw it in this situation, so they're pinning their ears back.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
They're gonna have. It's like anything. If you're a guy who.
Speaker 6 (01:42:05):
Goes fastball, curveball, fastball, one of those of your routine,
I would suggest you change your routine up. You don't
always have to start first pitch fastball, right, same thing here,
you might have to. You might have to adjust your
routine to the talent you have as opposed to what
you had last year. Because guess what last year ain't
this year. This is a better roster. It's underachieving in
certain situations more than it did last year.
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
At six and three. Yeah, Yes, there's six and three.
Speaker 5 (01:42:30):
Here you go, and we're we're talking about the offensive line.
Well seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety.
I got some guys who want to get in on
these Houston Texans. We'll talk about it next in sports
Stock seven to eighty.
Speaker 6 (01:42:41):
There, But the Sean Salisbury Show continued. So do your thing,
because tomorrow, what are what you gonna do? You ain't
changing it. Next day, you ain't changing it. So you
just have to go and deal and and adjust whatever
that adjustment is. But be kind of the person to
sit next to you. It's it's okay, it's it's all right.
Things are gonna be all right, regardless if you vote
different than that person, because if we did that, then
(01:43:02):
then it would be I don't know if TRIPLEI is
anybody ever won one hundred percent of the vote. So
I don't think we're supposed to hate the people who
think a little different about religion, race, food, what they
want on their pizza, who they want is their present.
It's okay, But enjoy it and be safe out there.
It's raining, and at least here locally, if you're listening
anywhere else, have a good day. Cheers and grab yourself
(01:43:24):
a cold beer or soda or whatever it is that
you like, and be safe and then we'll be back
at it again tomorrow. Well, we got a bunch of
finish today, so let's get out to John Northwest Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
John, Welcome in, brother, what's up?
Speaker 10 (01:43:36):
Good morning guys.
Speaker 7 (01:43:37):
Hey, I just wanted to chime in.
Speaker 10 (01:43:39):
You know, we're talking about what's wrong with the Texans,
why they can't adjust, you know, like what Tampa did.
And I mean I've been calling in every week on this.
It's coaching. And you know, Dimiko, I love Dimico. He's
done a great job with the defense, but you know,
it's the offensive line coach, and I'm very disappointed in
slow exibility to adjust to what's going on with the game.
(01:44:00):
I'm just very very disappointed. I mean that's you know,
like when you look at an Andy Reid or somebody
like that, their their strength is doing adjustments and everything,
and we don't have that. And I'm just gonna again
chime in and say it's totally on the coaching and
I don't know if they're they're going to do anything
about it, but the line has not.
Speaker 7 (01:44:20):
Approved at all.
Speaker 10 (01:44:21):
In fact, it's taking a step back in my opinion,
and h I know a lot of people called in
and we've talked about this a lot, and I've chimed
in every week about it. But there's just a problem
there and it's just not going away. And if Stroud
goes down, I mean, this town is going to erupt.
And I, you know, I just pray that doesn't happen.
But I just have a real concern there.
Speaker 6 (01:44:44):
So that John, let me ask you a question about
the coaching, and I think that you know, obviously teaching
and coaching when people say, oh, coaching is not that important,
it is important getting through and getting buy in and
all that.
Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
I have two questions for you. One is.
Speaker 6 (01:44:58):
It can't just be coaching though, right Where is your
level of accountability to somebody?
Speaker 7 (01:45:03):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Is it Bobby? I'm just I don't. Some of it
drives me crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:45:07):
But is it Bobby Slower or Demico Ryan's fault or
the offensive line coach's fault when Laramie Tunsel jumps off
sides unless they're not holding to accountable in practice, then
it is their problem.
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
But well, or when you hold whose fault is a
drop ball? Is it coaching? Where do the players come in?
With accountability.
Speaker 10 (01:45:24):
Well, drop ball is different, but I mean I'm just
talking about like.
Speaker 6 (01:45:27):
The discipline and stuff. Yeah, okay, yeah, it's discipline.
Speaker 10 (01:45:30):
I mean, and I put that on the offensive line coach,
but I think the offensive coordinator has to do something
about it. I mean, I don't know if Demko has
to jump in on that then I mean, clearly he's
right now just defending everybody. But I mean, to me,
it's just blatantly obvious accountability. When you have, yeah, when
you have like Tunsil, how many times he jumped off side?
I mean, you know, you know, jump too soon, and
(01:45:54):
and I mean you know, he's got this attitude like
where he doesn't have to practice and all this stuff.
I mean, there's just an attitude there.
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
That I just don't like. And they.
Speaker 10 (01:46:04):
Yeah, they have not, they have not. But the problem
is the problem. I just don't see any steps forward.
I see it steps backward, but I don't see any improvement.
That's my problem.
Speaker 7 (01:46:14):
Okay, you know it's not being resolved right.
Speaker 6 (01:46:15):
One other question, at this time last year, do you
I know you, I mean, you've got a really good
memory on some of the stuff that you've either set
on the show or that you've researched in the past.
At this time last year, do you remember how you
felt about the staff and the team nine games eight
games in.
Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
Three. I felt I felt.
Speaker 10 (01:46:34):
Better last year. I did, you know, like we you know,
we had a number of games where we had this
makeshift line we put together and they looked really good.
I remember, like the Jacksonville game where they won their
first game last year. I mean, the line was just
protecting Stroud excellent. You just don't see that. I mean
Stroud doesn't even have the ability to plant before he throws.
I mean it's just he can't even set right now.
(01:46:56):
And the team see this, I mean they they know
what schemes are working, so they're going to try the
same thing as well. And uh but yeah, I felt
better last year about it, but I know this year
it's just gotten worse. And I don't know that's where
I put but that's where I put the blame. I
just don't see where there's any coordination. People know what
their their responsibilities are and things like that. I mean,
(01:47:19):
they just seem like a deer in the headlights and
it's just very, very frustrating.
Speaker 6 (01:47:23):
Yeah, I feel you appreciate you John, Thank you very much, brother.
I always appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (01:47:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (01:47:28):
I think that you know, when it comes to accountability,
everybody's got to take some. The question is where is
it being distributed. This team is very capable and it's
six and three. The fix can be they can fix
this or adjust it. They're not going to win all
their games from here on out, but there's just some
things they got to do because I think we're all
at the point that getting to the playoffs, even though
it's just the second year with this there, I think
(01:47:48):
we have higher expectations that I do believe Damiko, Ryan's
and the staff and the management does. But there's some
there's some cracks when it comes to production and performance,
and it's got to get fixed if you're going to
compete in single elimination football in January and to get
to February. There's some things that they're going to have
to dress and protecting your quarterbacks at the top of
(01:48:08):
the list. Let's get to kind about another minute. Gary,
Let's get to you out in spring. How you doing,
Bud Hey doing good?
Speaker 7 (01:48:14):
Listen on John's comment there, he's fifty percent right. The
coaches plan for the game put in the.
Speaker 22 (01:48:20):
Plays and everything, and then when the kickoff starts, it's
handed off to the players. The players have to execute,
and then if the execution is not working, then the
coaches come back and make adjustments in the coaches.
Speaker 7 (01:48:33):
So it's back and forth. Is fifty to fifty? I
was going to ask you, you pretty much answer my
question at the first of this segment.
Speaker 17 (01:48:40):
Here.
Speaker 7 (01:48:40):
I'm old school. I don't go analytics. I don't like school.
I hate studying. So I'm all about the hyge test.
Speaker 22 (01:48:46):
And what I see here is I'm reminded of the Texans,
the first Texans, Oh my god, the quarterbacks getting murdered.
Speaker 7 (01:48:54):
So there has to be adjustments. The coaches have to
make adjustments. And you spoke about this.
Speaker 22 (01:48:59):
I see them wanted them Like last year they were
throw first and run second. Now the other teams have
adjusted and they're coming after him big time. So now
we have to adjust to do go back to more
of the run first since we have a good ground
game now, and use the pass as a secondary our
(01:49:19):
plan B. So and when he does run back, go back,
it has to do one or two things like they
did last night. Throw the ball quick or a rolling
pocket cannot continue to throw the ball with normal drops
with this line until they until they correct things. So
let's start running a little bit with our great running
back and I like that Taylor guy.
Speaker 7 (01:49:39):
He looks good too.
Speaker 22 (01:49:41):
And throw a second and move that pocket around a
little bit and throw quick.
Speaker 7 (01:49:44):
You got to make adjustments. It's time for the coach
to make adjustments. But the but the players have to
execute what the coaches give them. And then that's what
I see. What do you think about that?
Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
There, Sean, I'm one hundred percent with you and Gary,
thank you for the call.
Speaker 10 (01:49:57):
Brother.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (01:49:58):
I am when I say one hundred percent all in
on change the launch point of the quarterback. I've been
begging for it. You don't have to listen. You can
change the launch point of Even when Tom Brady said,
well he doesn't move much, they change the launch point
for him all the time. They'd play action and start
that naked boot he'd pull up at the backside tackle.
I know because part of the plays you put in
(01:50:20):
that we'd work on for like the Elite eleven, you
know what they call it, the Brady that was one
of the stretch play bootleg, pull up the tackle and
throw the backside deep over route, so and then move him.
You don't have to run the football with your quarterback.
It's great if you have that benefit. Jayden Daniels or
Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen and CJ. Stroud's underrated feet
(01:50:42):
to buy a little time to give you some extra yards.
We have that advantage over Peyton Manning and Tom Brady here,
he's better with his feet. Use those two in an example,
because they were prototypical pocket guys. But what did both
of them also have in common? The line did not
let them get touched, and when they did, things did
not go well. Even as good as those guys are.
So I'm a big launch point, mixing the run, screen, game, boom,
(01:51:04):
run the game, run the ball, run the ball, quick game, hitch, stutter,
go bang post, then take your shot over the top
because by that time they're like, okay, what are they
doing here?
Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
Move the launch point, boot him out. All those things.
Speaker 6 (01:51:17):
I think it's important because when I know in this
league where a guy is going to be, I can
make it awful tough on you as a defense. At
a huge element to this. I'm just telling you it's huge,
and it all goes back into the offensive line. Starts
with those and what they are and how they're approaching
game plans each and every week, not only on the
offensive line, but Bobby Slow. It's part of his job
(01:51:37):
is to put those guys in the best position to succeed. Now,
if you're putting them in position to succeed and they're
just on tape when you watch it during the week,
they just can't block anybody, and we've seen that a
couple of times, then you just got to change.
Speaker 2 (01:51:49):
You've got to change the body.
Speaker 5 (01:51:51):
You just do.
Speaker 6 (01:51:52):
If the free agent backup is playing like the first
round starter, meaning that I can get the same out
of that guy, because this guy's playing like a free
agent backup that made that barely made it in the.
Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
League, then you got to play the other guy. Yeah,
because I get no value.
Speaker 6 (01:52:11):
What value are you bringing other than me signing your
paycheck each week. That's not protecting my quarterback. If you're
not sorry, I love you. You can be a friend.
But when it comes to production, you're gonna have to
go over there until you get better.
Speaker 2 (01:52:23):
You're gonna have to watch the guy that's been waiting
for a chance.
Speaker 5 (01:52:26):
Yeah, there's there's no question about that let's get some
break and we'll continue to talk about this discussion for
the Houston Texans offensive game planning and of course that
trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
Next Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue. Well, he's about
to get it. I can even finish it without laughing.
Speaker 6 (01:52:47):
We may have to research and develop and research and
develop a rehab program, and I ain't talking about drinking rehab. Okay,
leave it at that. Okay, whether what's he rude textan
boy or something?
Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
What a name I got your research about?
Speaker 6 (01:53:08):
At Texan rude boy? Jeremy Jeremy, Sorry, man, I don't
know if you.
Speaker 5 (01:53:13):
Wanted me to put him off full blast, will already
Jeremy am at Texan rude boy?
Speaker 6 (01:53:18):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (01:53:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:53:19):
What what?
Speaker 2 (01:53:19):
What he got? Balls?
Speaker 6 (01:53:20):
Didn't they across the line of one thing to personal,
which I never do to anybody, but it's now.
Speaker 2 (01:53:26):
It is personal. Do you want to make a bet
that he doesn't show up when you're there? Well then
well no, no shock.
Speaker 6 (01:53:35):
Yeah, well you got to take a lot of days off.
Then he gets to make it personal right in front
of him. But isn't that so stereotypical though, that that's
so on brand for for for people that think that
his walk of life.
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
Yes, yeah, what a shock you make one comment about something.
Speaker 6 (01:53:51):
I didn't even make a chronic but it was anybody
wasn't even it. It wasn't even was And it wasn't
even a comment, you know. For for all he knows,
I could have been saying somebody else by a landslide.
It was just a simple comment throw I.
Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
Wasn't even paying attention. It wasn't even to him.
Speaker 6 (01:54:04):
It was a gun thrower got a couple of million
five just I follow him, and I think some of
his stuff's funny, and so it was no big deal.
I don't know, and I don't know who. Most people
I could care less who they vote. Listen, your vote
ain't mine, so I don't care. And then to go
and start talking about my kids and me and bringing up,
you know, deep seated stuff. And I endorse the beer
(01:54:25):
at the brewery from a research and development guy. He
ain't that big and that good.
Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
I got news for you.
Speaker 6 (01:54:30):
They'll be drinking car bock if he's not safe, so
be careful. I'm sure they'd like that too. And his
own his boss spends way too much money, yeah, locally,
And I'm on my new national show that starts in November. Okay,
who I love as a dear friend. But there's a line.
You don't get to be personal and hide behind it,
and especially when all's it is is one little drive away.
I get to go greet it and bring him a hamburger.
(01:54:53):
He ain't that stupid, but apparently he is. You stay
away from the personal stuff you get or you're gonna
have what do they say, You're gonna have to uh
a true face to face, come to Jesus, way way,
way too comfortable.
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
What does he do? Research and development? That's that's what
he says. And uh so, yeah he wants a spindle
tap gusher. He's gonna get one, so there must have research.
Speaker 5 (01:55:23):
He's not.
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
Developed research and development or grow us. There you go,
There you go, man.
Speaker 5 (01:55:31):
Not not very much movement going on so far this morning,
uh trade deadline wise, except for a couple of those
moves that we saw earlier this morning in the six
o'clock hour, the Lions adding Zadarius Smith defensive end from
the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (01:55:46):
I did just see that.
Speaker 5 (01:55:47):
Jerry Jones, I guess, on his radio appearance, said the
Cowboys are not going to be sellers at the deadline.
Speaker 6 (01:55:54):
Well, because Jerry believes that his team. We're going places. Sure,
you are, You're going to You're going to the bar
in the off seas to watch the games in the playoffs,
like we are. They are not the team here, but
us as fans.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
No, we are not gonna sell sell at the deadline.
I guess that. I guess that does the way with
Zach Martin. Grab him a right guard, right, Oh well, yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:56:15):
Because Dak Prescott is going to be out for several weeks,
according to sources. A couple of these insiders, Adam Schefter
Ian Rappaport all reporting that as well, who who knows
when he'll be back Ceedee Lamb shoulder injury doesn't seem
(01:56:35):
like it's gonna be too too significant.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
But Cooper Rushia gonna be their quarterbacks. So CDs like,
I'm so glad I got paid this off. I know,
I know, I got man.
Speaker 6 (01:56:46):
That's just a that's a bit of a train wreck.
Not even a train wreck, it's a little it's more
than a fender binner in football terms.
Speaker 7 (01:56:52):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:56:52):
Yeah, it's not good. It's not good, and it's not
gonna get any better. Texans play them in two weeks.
They didn't have to buy or sell in the offseason,
Go pay, go find players, right, So Zeke Elliott was
your fine player guy? Yeah, man, wait much respect for
a guy who's had a good at college and NFL career,
(01:57:13):
was a solid player early in his career, was over,
was drafted too high?
Speaker 2 (01:57:19):
But that was your go to? Yeah, that was the move. Yeah,
that was a good one. Yeah for what and they
suspended him? But that's your go to for what? Warm body? Yeah? Yeah,
lifetime achievement A why good move? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:57:34):
And then you go out and spend eight billion dollars
on two players and neither one of them will be
playing this week more than likely.
Speaker 5 (01:57:40):
It's craziness man. Yeah, man, that's that's Jerra he we
go with game. That's Jura Jerry Jones. Craziness man. See, well,
we'll be monitoring the NFL trade deadline see if the
Texans getting on any action. As we get into the
final hour of the nine o'clock hour here on Sports
Talk seven ninety, the Astros make a qualifying offer for
(01:58:02):
Alex Bregman. They also d f a a couple of players.
What is going on with the Astros as free agency
opens up in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
That's next k b E.
Speaker 17 (01:58:11):
Houston ATBHD two Houston, and I heard radio station.
Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
And the Rocket produce.
Speaker 18 (01:58:19):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home seats.

Speaker 1 (01:58:45):
Saulsbrey, ol Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:58:55):
To usc Tropes, longtime friend shown Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Ryan Lalima, Go Lobos. This is the Sean sALS Very Show.
Speaker 5 (01:59:05):
Salisbury, Brian Lolima, Emmanuel Elmore. Rockets beat the Knicks last
night hngon with a double double. Jalen Green also nineteen
points in that win. Astros make a qualifying offer for
Alex Bregman. That's what we're going to talk about this segment,
and also some movement for the roster for the Astros.
Speaker 2 (01:59:26):
The Chiefs reainn undefeated in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:59:28):
They beat the Buccaneers last night in overtime NFL trade
deadline three o'clock today Central time. See the Texans will
make any moves, not sure if they will. Maybe some
depth that offensive line may be a wide receiver who
knows will monitor it. I'm sure all lineup is gonna
be talking about it all day long. Hey, here's some
(01:59:50):
news real quick. Former U of H football head coach
Dana Holgerson is being added to the staff of the
University of Nebraska, being added as an offensive consultant. He'll
work with the offensive staff in a role that will
evolve as the season goes on.
Speaker 6 (02:00:08):
That's a good hire Nebraska. That's that's a good offensive consultant.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
That's good.
Speaker 6 (02:00:13):
Dana know's offense, he knows how to tack. He's been
coaching a long time, but or some good people and
as a head coach himself, and Matt Rule obviously has
some respect for what he's all about. And Ryola's a freshman,
true freshman helped that. There's that there's there's no that's
a reward there.
Speaker 2 (02:00:30):
That's good. That's a good opportunity for Dana on a
team that I think.
Speaker 6 (02:00:34):
Has a chance over the next few years to get
better because the quarterback's really freaking good.
Speaker 2 (02:00:37):
Yeah, he's pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:00:39):
Here's some moves for the Houston Astros as free agency
has opened up in Major League Baseball. Excuse me, Uh,
so the Astros gave Alex Bregman a qualifying offer they announced.
Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
No surprise there.
Speaker 19 (02:00:50):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:00:51):
Basically, it's it's it's a formality. Bregman's going to decline
that qualifying offer, I would assume, But it gives the
Astros a compensation pick after the four around the next
year's draft if he signs elsewhere, and the Astros can
still look to add Alex Bregman back on a new deal.
So the qualifying offer, like I said, it happens every
(02:01:13):
single year. Some teams, or excuse me, some players will
accept that qualifying offer. I think the last one I
remember for the Astros was Kobe Rasmus back in twenty fifteen.
If I'm not mistaken, excuse me, he got a qualifying offer.
Did not play very well in twenty sixteen. Obviously they
(02:01:34):
parted ways after that, But that twenty fifteen team exceeded
well exceeded expectations. They won the Wild Card and then
went and took it five games to Kansas City, and
Kansas City went on to win the World Series that year.
Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
They were I went away.
Speaker 5 (02:01:49):
They had him here at home, and obviously remember a
couple of heirs ball hit off the foot of a
picture for the Astros. But I don't need to continue
to open up that wound for that season with Kobe Rasmus.
DIDs have that qualifying offer, Alex Bregman, I would assume not.
I think the deadline to accept or decline, excuse me,
(02:02:09):
except or reject? You ass November nineteenth, so still fourteen
days away.
Speaker 2 (02:02:13):
Two weeks.
Speaker 5 (02:02:14):
Also some following uh moves for the Astros. Yesterday they
acquired outfield Taylor Trammel from the New York Yankees.
Speaker 2 (02:02:26):
No Idea heard of him. Yeah he's no Bubba Trammel
or Alan Trammel. No, No he's not, No he's not.
Speaker 5 (02:02:32):
They also outrighted two players off the forty man rosters,
right here to pitcher Oliver or Tega and right here
to pitcher Jose or Keaty or Katie Now a free agent.
Speaker 2 (02:02:42):
Does that surprise you?
Speaker 5 (02:02:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:02:43):
It doesn't.
Speaker 6 (02:02:43):
With his injuries, No it does not. Do you think
you could have rehabbed him and traded some trade?
Speaker 2 (02:02:47):
Is something for him? Or was this the right move
to clear some space for other people and give jose
A or Keaty a chance to start fresh.
Speaker 5 (02:02:52):
I would think, honestly, selfishly, I would have said, rehab
and let's trade.
Speaker 6 (02:02:56):
Let's see what we can get, see what we can get.
But but then you rehabing get started with his new organization.
Speaker 2 (02:03:01):
What value? Not much? You know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (02:03:04):
Because he's been banged up a lot the last couple
of years to having Tommy John just a couple of
months ago. So what what trade value? Would He'll add
some depth to somebody. Oh, I hope when he gets right. Yeah,
there's no there's no cause I like him. Yeah, pitch him.
He pitched pretty well when he was healthy at least.
And they also uh dfa'd outfield or trade cabbage right
here to pitcher Seth Martinez and rit here to pitcher
(02:03:26):
Penn Murphy. They were claimed off of waivers by several teams.
Cabbage goes to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seth Martinez headed to
the Arizona Diamondbacks, and pen Murphy headed to the White Sox.
Pen Murphy was a good git for the Astros, but
he didn't even pitch because he was hurts.
Speaker 6 (02:03:40):
And he'll be a good git when he's right. His
next stop, and think about the other two. Cabbage has
got some pop in his bat, can play with a
couple extra positions. So Pittsburgh gets an opportunity to have
a guy who, uh maybe if he can break in there,
give him full time or be a platoon guy. And
then you look over at Seth Martinez that has to
be part of of pitching coach too. But he knows,
(02:04:03):
he knows his past has to be when it comes
to the pitching coach there, who was I mean, can
we make the argument he's as good as areas in
the league.
Speaker 2 (02:04:10):
Have we had him here? We talked about that ad nauseum.
So I I.
Speaker 6 (02:04:17):
Don't think this is what has happened with the outright releases.
I don't think. And two things, I don't think this
affects much of the team right now, but I can
tell you what it is a tribute to They put
him on waverwire and all three of those.
Speaker 2 (02:04:34):
Guys were snatched in a hurry and a hurry quick.
Speaker 6 (02:04:37):
Martinez with Strom obviously knows about him and a good background.
Speaker 2 (02:04:42):
That's right, that's exactly right. Right, that happened, That happened
this offseason.
Speaker 6 (02:04:46):
A week and a half or two weeks ago, but
them knowing Strom's background with Houston and Seth Martine seeing
enough of him, he did good work here. He saw
Yeoman's work right, that's exactly right for people, and that
kind of got lost in the news cycle. When I
saw that, I was shocked. Do we think it was
him or do we think it was them? I know,
you know what I'm saying, was it. Let's let's move on,
(02:05:08):
because you don't normally just say I'm getting rid of
what is considered a top pitching coach in baseball and
how look look what it's done for Arizona the last
couple of years. So that's exactly one of those news cycles. Aside,
it's like you kind of pass away, say is this
real fake news? That's exactly right, and we that's first
time we've mentioned it on the air. But and then
so all three of those guys picked up by somebody
else tells you that they trust this team's development of players,
(02:05:32):
and so.
Speaker 2 (02:05:33):
I don't think it's that big a deal.
Speaker 6 (02:05:34):
When I do want to go with this trade deadline,
I mean, with the free agency kicked in, let's be said,
we joke about Bregman and what's going on. Then we
get serious and stuff. Where do you think this is
going to hap? What do you really deep down? If
I pressed you on it and you had to come
up with an answer, And I'm setting here rolling it
through my mind? How valuable is he to this city
and team? I'm talking about? Can you win without him
(02:05:58):
a championship? And and do you think he's here or
somebody's gonna go off the beaten path and overpay. When
I say overpay, run by a Chapman or something, or
get in the Devers category type of money, start with one. Yeah,
and you win a championship without him? Tougher replacement Springer
(02:06:20):
Correa Bregman, M. You haven't replaced the center fielder yet, No.
Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
You haven't.
Speaker 5 (02:06:26):
Jimmy Paynton looked like he was the good replacement for
Cars Carellies for the CoA a little bit. Yeah, he's
come back down to earth. I've always for me, I've
always said it was George Springer. I've always said that,
like he was the one that I did not want
to leave. I was okay with Cars Correa. I thought
the money that he wanted the energy of the team.
Speaker 2 (02:06:44):
Right.
Speaker 7 (02:06:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:06:47):
Now, Alex Bregman, he's done so much and it's not
just with the glove. Obviously just won his first Gold glove.
He hits very well in the postseason. He's a notorious sosar.
Speaker 7 (02:06:56):
Do we know that?
Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
I think it's it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:58):
I think what what is gonna make a different if
they do not sign him back is what he does
inside of the clubhouse and also for the pitching staff,
Like there was so much written about him this year
on what he did to help out these pictures with
pitch sequencing. How often do you hear that that your
third baseman is meeting with your younger pitchers to go
(02:07:19):
through pitch sequences.
Speaker 6 (02:07:20):
But and why not for a guy who's got his
kind of eye and his kind of plate plate discipline,
why wouldn't you lean on Again, he doesn't have to
be a picture to understand it or a catcher to
understand and lean That's why I always say quarterbacks, go
talk to the defensive coordinator. How does he play you?
How would he defend you? If he is preparing a
week if you're CJ. Stroud, how are they defend how's
(02:07:40):
Demiko Ryan's going to defend c J.
Speaker 2 (02:07:42):
Stroud for the week? I want to Quinn, you were
defensive coordinat go sit with your defensive coording? How would
you defend me this week? What am I doing? What
are my tennessees? Do you? Where are my eyes? At
am I doing?
Speaker 6 (02:07:51):
When you when I drop back and you see me
in scouting and practice and you're scouting? What do you
see from me? And we go ones versus ones? How
would you defend me if you had to deal with that?
Eighty plays a game, So it's the same thing here.
Bregman's a perfect person to lean on because he's as
plate disciplined as anybody in baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:08:05):
Now, with that, let me make it all three in
their prime.
Speaker 6 (02:08:08):
Let's say they're all still playing All Star Baseball Korea,
Springer and Bregman, and they're on the twenty twenty five roster,
or right now, twenty twenty four roster, and you can
only keep one?
Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
Who you keeping? Who you keeping? My god, man, damn
that is that is a really good question based on
their last two years results.
Speaker 6 (02:08:31):
How's that all three of these guys, based on their
last two results, you got to make a decision to go.
One's got to stay.
Speaker 2 (02:08:37):
It's definitely not George Springs. Have you told them what
he's healthy? Yeah, have you seen his numbers? They're awful.
He's like barely a two to ten hitter.
Speaker 6 (02:08:46):
It's sadly enough, it feels like we've seen the best
of George Springer's baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
I hope that's not the case. And I'm sure you
were even talking about him losing his starting spot. I
know they're still talking about it. That is crazy.
Speaker 6 (02:08:57):
So let's answer the question when he's at his best,
which hasn't been much lately. To me, it's Bregman. Let's
judging from the rosterrat we see paying. Yeah, we say
it would have to be Bregman. I get I'm getting
by in center field with multiple bodies. Yeah, the question
is can you just get by at third base without
Bregman if you don't replace him with a stud thing?
Now you got to talk about your corner infield is
(02:09:20):
going to be all new?
Speaker 2 (02:09:21):
Yeah? Sorry, Springer hit two twenty this year, So is
it Bregman? I would think?
Speaker 5 (02:09:29):
So?
Speaker 6 (02:09:29):
Okay, I mean, who who, who the hell is going
to play third base right and play it like him
and play it every day right and and be that. Okay,
So there's that. So that adds money to my to
my pot for him. Right, and and my ability to
want to keep him. So you can answer the last one,
and we'll answer the last one. I have to break
because I'm curious. Now, can you win a title without
(02:09:50):
him not knowing who the replacement is?
Speaker 12 (02:09:53):
Do you?
Speaker 8 (02:09:53):
Do?
Speaker 5 (02:09:53):
You?
Speaker 2 (02:09:54):
Lessen?
Speaker 6 (02:09:54):
And then how much money would you pay him? You're
the general manager? How much money you paying him for?
How many years to keep him?
Speaker 2 (02:10:01):
And your your decision mining your decision will come to
a decision together. We're co GM's. It's the last this
is a fun We are either keeping him or lett
him go today, man, I yeah, talk about that when
we get back. Yeah, let's so. Let's let's sake, can we.
Speaker 6 (02:10:18):
Win a championship without a without a staple at the
third cornerstone at first and third?
Speaker 2 (02:10:25):
Ye take that into account too. Let's discuss that next
right here on Sports Talk seven to.
Speaker 17 (02:10:30):
Eighty eight, Towns most Complete Breakfast Klatches, Breakfast Tacos, and
Sean Salisbury Steak.
Speaker 2 (02:10:41):
Don't forget to book a few air holes. You'll be
cleaning that microwave, trust me.
Speaker 17 (02:10:47):
More, Sean right now on Sports Talk seven ninety You
like dudes on dudes, don't you?
Speaker 2 (02:10:53):
Of course I do.
Speaker 6 (02:10:55):
Hey, whatever, however, it takes whatever, whatever. Since you're fancy, man,
I guess, no big deal.
Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
I guess.
Speaker 5 (02:11:01):
Talking about the Houston Astros, they offered Bregman that qualifying
offer yesterday, free agency getting underway in Major League Baseball.
They also DFA had a couple of players Seth Martinez,
Trey Cabbage, and Penn Murphy. They outrighted Jose Orkeaty, who
is now a free agent, so obviously coming back from
(02:11:23):
Tommy John surgery.
Speaker 2 (02:11:24):
Some movements.
Speaker 5 (02:11:27):
With free agency opening up for the Astro seven seven
ninety is number to join Billy Good morning.
Speaker 23 (02:11:35):
Hey, good morning guys. Yeah, I'm going to bypass the
Dudes on Dudes thing. Uh sounds a little bit like
the polar opposite of Girls Gone Wild, So I'm really
not overly excited about that. They need to change the
name of that podcast, Dudes on Dudes, Man, I'm good.
Really got a question worried about first and third, and
(02:11:55):
obviously we don't know anything if we can get Breagman
back or not, but would you be more comfortable with
Ragmann and singled in at first, bring the third single
at first, or if it could happen Whitcomb at third
and Christian Walker at first. If that's another option for
the Astros a little bit older, it might be a
little cheaper. Is going to be in that year range
for the Astros. And the other question of God is
(02:12:15):
if the Asters were able to pull off a trade
for Coddy Bellinger, does that change anything in your mind
about the about the infield and maybe being able to
more stomach Decenzo at first and Witkim at third, and
I'll hang up.
Speaker 2 (02:12:28):
Listen to what you guys got, Thank you, Billy uh.
I think that man. So Cody Bellinger is staying with
the Cubs.
Speaker 5 (02:12:39):
He picked up his option and he will return yep
uh for the Cubs, so they're not going to trade him.
Plus that's a twenty seven and a half million dollar option.
So that's one thing. I get that they have Dezenzo
and shay wickhamb As he's young and up and coming players.
But if I have an opportunity to re sign Alex Bregman,
I'm going to take full advantage of it. I don't
(02:12:59):
want to go into the twenty twenty five season where
Zach Decenzo is my starting first basement and shay Woodcomb
is my starting third basement. Is it.
Speaker 6 (02:13:06):
Let me, let me put this, no disrespect for those guys,
and they're still young and learning.
Speaker 2 (02:13:09):
Yes, exactly. And is it Keratini or Diaz who are
in up playing first base? Who knows?
Speaker 6 (02:13:15):
Okay, is it gonna be? Is the first basement and
third baseman? I'm saying Bregman's on the roster as we speak,
even though he's a free age.
Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
You get my point. Just play along with the game.
Are both of them on the roster as we speak
starting in opening A twenty twenty five?
Speaker 6 (02:13:32):
Is one of them on the roster? I mean the
starting guy that's currently on the roster. Is it the
third basement? Is one on the roster? Is it the
first basement or neither one?
Speaker 2 (02:13:40):
I would on the roster? I think it would be
Zenzo for first base.
Speaker 6 (02:13:44):
You think he starts twenty twenty five on the roster
that the first basement that opens twenty twenty five is
on the current roster.
Speaker 2 (02:13:52):
That's my point. That's my point. No, No, no, I
don't I think Decenzo makes the roster. No, and that
makes it. But okay, day starter is the first third
basement on the roster right now?
Speaker 6 (02:14:01):
That will both be? Will two of them be there
will one of them? Will it be third or first base?
Or none of them?
Speaker 2 (02:14:14):
Man?
Speaker 6 (02:14:14):
That's yeah, what odds would you put in order of like, Okay,
what's the one most likely to happen one of them's
on the roster that starts, two of them or none
of them?
Speaker 2 (02:14:26):
Damn, you know, I wish I have no idea what
they're going to do this off season. I really have
no idea. First is a little bit of a baffling.
You can you can you can who their parent is
right or don't answer right?
Speaker 6 (02:14:38):
If well, if they've said we're going out to get
a bopper at first base unequivalently, no doubt about it,
we we don't know that. And it's going to take
money to keep Bregman. And then you don't get to
dictate it completely because we're past that. Bregman can go
where he wants to. Somebody makes more money off And
then you say, okay, now, or do we start two
young guys? Do we start Singleton and keep him and
(02:15:00):
platuning with somebody else while that guy learns? Do we
take one of our catchers and put him there and
put the other one behind the plate.
Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
Do we have descent?
Speaker 6 (02:15:07):
Do we have a third basement, the Descenzo or a
group that can play there, or do I got to
go out and get me a every day guy there?
Or do we believe the every day guy like when
pained you took over for Korea. That guy's on a roster?
Which ones more apt to happen?
Speaker 11 (02:15:21):
One?
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
None or two?
Speaker 6 (02:15:23):
Damn dude. I would think it's one. Yeah, that's the
safe bet. Yeah, I think it's one right now. If
I was betting you, the safe bet would be one.
And it's the first base. Yeah, that's exactly where I
was gonna lean to. I would think it's the first base.
Can they win a title without without us knowing either
one of those right now? If either one, if both
of them are new and neither one are boppers and
(02:15:43):
both are gone, is that hurt this team too much? Yes,
especially with the injuries correct, I think so? Okay, So
what's it going to take in your mind? What are
you paying Bregman? And I'll tell you we can come together.
What do you how many years you given him and
paining him?
Speaker 2 (02:15:56):
Right now?
Speaker 6 (02:15:56):
And I don't want to forget the negotiation. I need
your final offerre leave and I'm Scott Boris right now too.
I would say, okay, so he's thirty, give me, let.
Speaker 7 (02:16:09):
Me do some simple math.
Speaker 2 (02:16:12):
Hang on, let me do that real quick.
Speaker 5 (02:16:16):
I would probably go like six years, one hundred and
sixty five million, six years, one sixty five. So that's
uh once fed by six that's twenty seven and a
half million dollars a year, six years, maybe five years
with an opt out after that fifth year. And I
(02:16:36):
know we talked about out opt outs yesterday, but the
five more years with Alex Bregnany will be thirty five,
thirty six years old. Give him an opt out, let
him go get a two year contract, and then right
off into the sunset, get the best four or five
years that you can get for him. I would draw
a hard line in the sand. I probably wouldn't give
him over twenty eight million a year. I'd probably give
him between twenty six and twenty eight million, maybe even
(02:16:57):
maybe twenty five.
Speaker 2 (02:16:58):
I know he's not gonna take that. Which give me
your max.
Speaker 5 (02:17:00):
Yeah, I want twenty yeah, six years at twenty seven
and a half million year, that's one sixty eight.
Speaker 6 (02:17:06):
What if he says, if Boris comes back, I said
to you, and you say your final off, he comes
back goes, give us six years for thirty and you
can keep him.
Speaker 7 (02:17:14):
We won't.
Speaker 2 (02:17:14):
Negotiations stop down right now.
Speaker 5 (02:17:17):
Six years thirty at thirty eight years, so one hundred
and eighty million. Damn dude, that would put him in what.
Speaker 2 (02:17:25):
Then the Devers in the rarefied air category? Yeah, at
third base.
Speaker 7 (02:17:32):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (02:17:32):
I'm not doing thirty million a year.
Speaker 6 (02:17:34):
So over six years and two and a half two
million dollars twelve over about sixteen million bucks, fifteen million
bucks over the course of six years.
Speaker 2 (02:17:44):
You're not doing it. No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't do
it thirty a year.
Speaker 6 (02:17:47):
So your line is twenty seven and a half or
twenty eight yeah max, twenty eight max. So the extra
two million kills a deal for you a year? Yeah, yeah,
because then you could take that two million. You got
to put it somewhere else. You got to go get
a first basement. So the overall fIF fifteen million of that,
you kind of start to do that to what if
they think their first baseman's on the roster, they they.
Speaker 2 (02:18:06):
Do, they do, Oh, then let's go up to thirty
million if then yeah, so.
Speaker 6 (02:18:09):
If they got their first basement, they're not going out
and getting a bomb by Bunny Guy. You're you're weighing
in that they're gonna have to go get that guy too. Yes,
that's what I'm weighing in on.
Speaker 2 (02:18:16):
Fair enough. Yeah, because you could take that two million,
you could that two million.
Speaker 5 (02:18:19):
Maybe the difference in trying to go get I'm not
saying it's going to be Pete Alonso, but if they
want to try to go get Pete A. Lonzo and
resign Alex Bregman, something's going to have.
Speaker 6 (02:18:27):
To give Love bregnant. They can't make him the highest
paid third basement. No, but somebody may try to do that, right,
somebody will, and if they do, is he leaving?
Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
Yeah? I would agree, I think so. I would agree.
Speaker 6 (02:18:37):
I think that's that would be the majority of our listeners.
If every single one of our listeners and callers, we could,
if we knew what they were thinking or they told
us speaking speaking of election day, what would the majority say,
at thirty million a year, keep him or let him go?
Speaker 2 (02:18:55):
In this city? I think, I ask you to me,
I think it would be split.
Speaker 7 (02:18:59):
Really.
Speaker 2 (02:19:00):
I think some hundred thousand, two.
Speaker 6 (02:19:02):
Hundred thousand votes, thirty thousand, thirty million for six years,
or he's got to go or he's leaving. What do
you think they're ultimatum the agents given? Ultimately, what would
the two hundred thousand voters or listeners that are listening
to show what would they say?
Speaker 5 (02:19:19):
I would say sixty No, we'll do it, Like forty
to fifty one and forty nine percent watched that close.
Speaker 2 (02:19:25):
I think it Honestly, I think it's right there, splplit
fair enough.
Speaker 5 (02:19:28):
Fifty one would say don't do it for thirty million,
because I think a lot of the people also know
that they needed to fix. Basically, I think the three
positions that they need to fix amongst the fan base
would be fans want a first baseman, fans want a
centerfield and everyday center fielder, and obviously they want to
resign Alex Bregman. But I think a good majority of
fans know that if you're going to try to resign
(02:19:48):
Alex Bregman, he's going to command quite a bit of money.
If you're going to go get out, go get a
legit first baseman, and that's no disrespect to what John
Singleton did, But if you're gonna go get a legit
first basement, that's also going to cost significant money, and
we know how Jim Crane operates when it comes to
not giving long term deals and things like that. Plus
you have the big contract to Josh Hader, you still
got Jose Bray, you on the books, you still got
Rafael Montyer on the books, Montero. So there's money that's
(02:20:11):
still on the books that you're not gonna be able
to utilize because of those contracts, and you're not gonna
be able to give it to Bregman and a first
baseman or both. And then also you're gonna have to
keep in mind that a lot of people want Kyle
Tucker signed. They want they don't want to go into
free agency with Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 2 (02:20:30):
They would rather I.
Speaker 5 (02:20:31):
Think a good amount of people would rather have Kyle
Tucker than Alex Bregman. Now after his poor offseason or
not offseason, but playoffs, even though it was just a two,
you know, two games out of three series because of
the short wildcard series, but again he didn't come.
Speaker 6 (02:20:46):
He didn't perform in October. Again, I wonder where the
fans are on that one.
Speaker 5 (02:20:50):
And just looking at some of these numbers for third
basements in the league, let's just say Alex Bregman had
an AAV of thirty million, that would make him it
would be manument. I'm taking Anthony Rendon out because he
is pulling highway robbery, and quite frankly, so is Nolan Aeronado.
Speaker 2 (02:21:06):
No disrespect Nolan Aronado. At least he's not.
Speaker 6 (02:21:08):
Stealing quite as much from the Brinks truck. Right, since
since Rendon's been there, he hasn't done a damn night.
He hasn't even on the field. Yeah, he's had a good,
really good career, but that's not he's it's legalized theft
in in Anaheim.
Speaker 5 (02:21:22):
And Nolan Aeronado getting up there at age has not
competed as much as or has not performed as well
as we have seen.
Speaker 2 (02:21:31):
So I'm gonna take those two out.
Speaker 5 (02:21:33):
Many Machado is making an AAV of thirty one point
eight and then Rafaeld Devers is making thirty one point three,
and then it's a drop off the Matt chap And
at twenty five and a half. So that would put
that would put Alex Bregman right behind Many Machado and
Rafaeld Devers at thirty million.
Speaker 6 (02:21:48):
And those two production wise should be paid higher. Yeah, right,
he falls into the third slot I live with.
Speaker 2 (02:21:57):
I lived there. Yeah, but you're not going to thirty.
Speaker 6 (02:21:59):
I wouldn't go to thirty, Okay, No, I would probably
stay around twenty eight million if I could. If I could,
But if I'm trying to if I'm not trying to
sign a big bopper at first base, it's jacking up
to thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:22:08):
You should keep one of your cornerstones.
Speaker 6 (02:22:09):
And you also, it's tough to keep losing core players
right and stay relevant, dude, And as good as they've
developed players, it's still tough to do.
Speaker 5 (02:22:18):
Look at Jose Ramirez just making a casual twenty million
year because he chose to stay.
Speaker 6 (02:22:22):
And well, if if Jose Ramirez would have tested it
and left and made him pay what his value is,
he'd be quite frankly challenging the Machado dever's money.
Speaker 2 (02:22:34):
It would. He's that good he is, You're that reductive, right, dude,
had a sneaky damn your forty forty seats without being
a self promoter. No one said anything about him. It's crazy.
Speaker 5 (02:22:42):
Let's continue the discussion about the Astros seven one three, two,
one two five seven ninety. We'll also take your calls
next Sports Talk seven to eighty. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued,
I'm gonna request either Born in the USA by Bruce
Springsteen or roc K and the USA by John Cougar Mellencamp.
Speaker 2 (02:23:03):
Number two.
Speaker 5 (02:23:04):
Yeah, yeah, r O c K in the USA by
John Cougar Mellencamp. You ever heard John Cougar Mellencamp.
Speaker 2 (02:23:14):
Have heard of him?
Speaker 6 (02:23:15):
You have played catch with him on a field in Hawaii?
Threw him routes at the Four Seasons Hotel?
Speaker 2 (02:23:22):
Did you really damn right? We did.
Speaker 6 (02:23:26):
Dig routes up launching the pill four Seasons model dead
as serious. They got grass next to pool. He's out there,
walk out there on a Pro Bowl vacation right after
the Pro Bowl stated another week. Huh sounds he's got
his too, He's got his boys out there. And then
Elaine Irwin was the super U see her on all this.
She's a super was a supermodel that they're divorced. Now
(02:23:47):
that they were out there talking so time married. I
start talking to it's like's Cougar Mellencamp.
Speaker 2 (02:23:53):
Yeah, we call him just cougar.
Speaker 6 (02:23:54):
Now Mellen Camp, me, what do you call John Mellencampy
just Mellencamp. And so Coug's is there a little short guy?
And I'm thinking, I love this guy. I mean I've
been to his I was doing to this concert at
Market Square Arena in Indiana. We're his hometown. And so
we start talking because they're all we're just kind of
milling around on the big piece of grass next to
the pool.
Speaker 2 (02:24:11):
It was like, hey, you've got a football with his kids.
Starts talking. He wants to talk football. I want to
talk music. So what do I do?
Speaker 7 (02:24:18):
I throw?
Speaker 2 (02:24:19):
I thrown it.
Speaker 6 (02:24:19):
I've thrown to Billy Billy Shat in her post routes
on the beach in Calsanta, Monica. And I've been blessed
to throw playing catch at the Four Seasons Hotel with
John Cougar Mellencamp. And I said, okay, rocking into the
US A brother, uh little diddy about Jack and throwing.
Speaker 2 (02:24:45):
Solid? Said was the slot guy?
Speaker 8 (02:24:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:24:49):
Makes sense, but really really solid hands. And I said, dude,
if you drop the ball, just start singing. Maybe the
roughly I didn't say that, it was I just out
of door, you think, I think through melon camp routes
and in Malahwaii, I would have to get lunch by
the pool.
Speaker 2 (02:25:07):
I'm like, Hey, I.
Speaker 6 (02:25:08):
Think I'll play catch with John Cougar Mellodchips. That's pretty cool, man.
I love your concert Market Square. Can I come up
on the stage? Exit and by the way, get that
dig route. Make sure it's a fifteen half. I need
a classic seven seven hinty, Joseph, good morning.
Speaker 13 (02:25:23):
Oh hello, Hello, How y'all doing y'all doing okay?
Speaker 5 (02:25:25):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (02:25:26):
Here's the question, Joseph, are you doing okay? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:25:29):
I'm doing great, man. I just got off from work
until I'm working part time now, I've been retired for
three years.
Speaker 2 (02:25:36):
Will yeah, I go what I Well?
Speaker 13 (02:25:40):
I don't understand baseball, I really really don't, because see
Brakeman is big there, just as moms at Too Bay
and if our two wey vouched for him and everybody else,
all the fans like them. What seemed to be the
follow me all about money every day?
Speaker 7 (02:25:57):
Can't be all about money. I don't hang up.
Speaker 13 (02:26:00):
I have a good day.
Speaker 2 (02:26:01):
Thank you, Joseph.
Speaker 5 (02:26:04):
All right, First and foremost, Sean jose Al Tuve has
been with the Asher since twenty eleven. Alex Bregman, if
I'm not mistaken, made his debut in twenty seventeen, So
that's six years and it all comes down to money.
Speaker 2 (02:26:21):
Yeah, that's all.
Speaker 6 (02:26:22):
You can have forty guys and just to let him.
It doesn't matter what player endorses you. Now, if you're
Holmes and you say I'm leaving as a free agent,
if you don't bring this guy in, certain guys have
that empower, and al Tuovey's got that respect. Of course,
I wouldn't expect al tuo v or anybody else in
the dugout to say you're in the clubhouse, say anything
else other than they want Bregman there. I'm sure altove
(02:26:43):
wants me. I'm sure he wanted Coorean Springer too. That
didn't work. So as much as you love to your
players wanting the guys around, because Bregman's great and it's
a great clubhouse guy and has been a staple of
the franchise, Jim Crane's not gonna make the final decision
based on Jose Al two Bay's endorsement.
Speaker 2 (02:27:00):
No, as much as you want that far, but it's
not going to happen, especially.
Speaker 6 (02:27:04):
Now if it was within a couple of a million
bucks or two or a year maybe, but over the
course of it all and Alex Bregman's not going to
make his decision based on jose Al two Vay's endorsement. Right,
I'm sure you want they're tight and he wants them there,
but if the money blows it away, and guess what
Altuve will understand, as will Alex Bregman.
Speaker 2 (02:27:22):
Do you think? Do you want?
Speaker 7 (02:27:25):
Do you do you?
Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
Okay, we can we can tease this for the last segment.
Speaker 5 (02:27:29):
Also, we got to think are folks over at ciphair
I SD Police Department about tarow.
Speaker 6 (02:27:33):
I was going to say say that the SCIFA that
that back the badge. Yeah, I was gonna say for
absolutely phenomenal people. Twelfth annual, man, oh my gosh, and
we get to MC. We had a lot of laughs
and had a blast. They do it right and their
range the day they walked us ron, do you talk
about doing it the right way and care about the
people they're protecting? We love you and literally we love
(02:27:54):
you guys, So thank you man.
Speaker 2 (02:27:55):
Yes for the time. Didn't you have a blast yesterday much?
But we might just might be on SNL.
Speaker 5 (02:28:03):
Do you understand that we like roasted everybody every cop
in that building yesterday?
Speaker 2 (02:28:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:28:08):
And then we asked if we could be free from
any ticket. Yeah, but we did it with love truly.
We were we emceed. Uh it's called back the badge.
It's for Sci fair Is SD. We've got it two
years in a row. And they are spectacular people. Yeah
you got to come with us next year.
Speaker 2 (02:28:23):
Yeah, you do.
Speaker 5 (02:28:24):
They are fantastic people. They treat us well, very respectful.
I mean, it's just all so much love around there.
And uh, me and Sean literally roasted everybody like nobody.
Nobody was safe yesterday from our taunts. You know, Gordy
walks in there wearing an L. S U jersey, He's
getting his ass roasted.
Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
We we we and it was a blast.
Speaker 6 (02:28:43):
And but they know everything we did out of love
because and they've said that you guys are near lifers,
and so we're not going any That's what I said.
I'll be a time one hundred and two good. I mean,
I'll be able to walk up on a stage a
one hundred two. But I'll that's exactly what you talk about, dude.
Speaker 2 (02:28:57):
You'll be up.
Speaker 6 (02:28:58):
Your ass will be after the baseball back gets taken
to your back from from one of the cartel You know,
you even pulled with one of our officers. What we said,
you start talking about the bead streets. I said, yeah, right,
another victory for my people. Aren't they great people?
Speaker 2 (02:29:18):
Yeah? They're the best man literally quite literally the best.
Speaker 6 (02:29:22):
You guys are, Maddie, thank you, I mean Captain and
chief of police. We are you talk about saying we
have some good sports So because they're our guys. A
little baffled by their Dallas cowboys, aren't they definitely?
Speaker 5 (02:29:34):
Oh yeah, brought last year and they're about they're about
on tangents mans.
Speaker 2 (02:29:38):
All right?
Speaker 5 (02:29:39):
Do you trust that the Astros can make a deal
happen for Alex Bregan. Let's talk about that next on
Sports Talk seven and eight.
Speaker 2 (02:29:46):
We want to John Salisbury continues on seven.
Speaker 5 (02:29:50):
Ninety show Stuck Door Guy, Big Jay, Big Jay in
the Mix where the big girls at cut.
Speaker 24 (02:29:56):
Good morning, Happy Tuesday, Election Day. I got out and
voted this morning. I did my write in vote Shawn
Salisbury for President, Brian Lima vice president, triple e State Senator.
Speaker 2 (02:30:08):
There we go, There go the last question you posed.
We'll get it all done for you? Yes, I know
you will.
Speaker 24 (02:30:15):
I know you and your stories and your fun and
you're serious. So that God bless America. God bless the
Shawn Salisbury so and God.
Speaker 6 (02:30:29):
Oh they're they're gonna be on the cabinet. I got broken,
nice cabinet.
Speaker 2 (02:30:35):
There you go. If you need a guy, I know
a guy the head of security. Yes, I will lock
them down already. There you go.
Speaker 24 (02:30:47):
Hey, uh, the last question you posed to the Astros,
how do we feel about them getting a deal done
for Brickman? And then you list it off all those
guys that have walked, and man, my my barometer is
going down and down. I just don't know that we're
gonna get a deal done to us. I mean, you know,
I hope that Alex considers the fact, Hey, you stay
in Houston, we're gonna be competing for championships.
Speaker 2 (02:31:09):
But man, it just seems.
Speaker 24 (02:31:10):
Slim as we let those guys walk, and then if
you don't sign Breckman or we signed Bregman or off
make him an offer. It's like, what stars are we
gonna keep in Houston like Astros for life? You know,
we're letting too many guys walk, and that's what concerns me.
Speaker 6 (02:31:25):
So hey, big Jay, what are you playing on? You're
the GM right now? Before you go, what are you
paying Okay, let's say it's a six year deal. What
are you giving him early?
Speaker 24 (02:31:32):
Yeah, twenty seven and a half. I can't go thirty
because I heard you guys talking about it. Man, you know,
let's meet in the middle of twenty seven and a half.
But then I thought, okay, what if we let him
walk and we get I mean, but there's nobody out
there and this year, like he's the Golden Goose, right,
so he's the king of the hill at third base.
And you know you're not You're not gonna go get
(02:31:53):
a wan so toe. But what if you could get
Blake Snell and Christian Walker?
Speaker 19 (02:31:58):
I mean, do you do?
Speaker 24 (02:31:59):
You do you accept that? And you need to go
with Wick him at third or Pete Alonzo and Blake
Snell and then you go with him at third.
Speaker 2 (02:32:05):
All right, let me throw this at you. You want?
You want Kokuchi or Blake Snell?
Speaker 6 (02:32:10):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:32:11):
Man, Oh, it's hard.
Speaker 6 (02:32:16):
After the way that Kokuchi pitched the last ten or
eleven games, right.
Speaker 24 (02:32:19):
You could probably get You could probably get him for
the cheap, and then you can give more to Alonzo
or Kokuchi and Bregman.
Speaker 6 (02:32:26):
If Bregman does walk, Big Jay and Brian aren't we
gonna see some big splash player come in.
Speaker 2 (02:32:32):
I would I would assume.
Speaker 6 (02:32:34):
Don't you think they gotta they gotta? Or are we
saving it for next year?
Speaker 2 (02:32:38):
Big Jay? We appreciate a big dog.
Speaker 6 (02:32:40):
Big Jay, great stuff, you always appreciate. You have a good,
safe day man. We got great listeners and callers they all.
And then I think we're treading lightly on the Bregman stuff.
But it would tell me if you lose one, don't
you think you got to replace it?
Speaker 2 (02:32:51):
Big?
Speaker 6 (02:32:52):
Are we saving fromber and Kyle Tucker money? You are
thinking about that already?
Speaker 2 (02:32:57):
Or No, if you lose.
Speaker 6 (02:32:58):
Bregman, don't you got to replace him with You want
offer somewhere you want to take for me?
Speaker 2 (02:33:02):
Yeah? No, I well that's why I I don't know
if it's a hot take or not.
Speaker 5 (02:33:06):
I think the Ashleys are gonna explore trading from her
Valdez h that's my opinion.
Speaker 6 (02:33:10):
Well, we've discussed that for about a year and a
half to wonder where they sit on his overall.
Speaker 2 (02:33:16):
Yeah, I think I think they might look to trade him.
Speaker 6 (02:33:19):
Well, that would bring in some assets. Are a good
player depending on what you're getting for it, No doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:33:24):
Yep, No, doubt and uh.
Speaker 5 (02:33:25):
Lastly, another special thank you to the sci Fi ISSD
Police Department and everybody that was at the Back the
Badge twelfth annual Back the Badge yesterday, Sean and I
had the privilege of MCing for the second year in
a row.
Speaker 6 (02:33:36):
We love you guys. Y'all are fantastic and we can't
wait to be back next year. And not only fantastic
your service. We appreciate you. And the story they read
a guy who won an award. Oh yeah, they went
in chase, ran into gunfire.
Speaker 2 (02:33:48):
Yep. And somebody who got shot in the check. I mean,
I think this is for public.
Speaker 6 (02:33:52):
It's in the public, right, got shot twice, went in
and saved the person's life and he's lived to tell
about it himself.
Speaker 2 (02:33:58):
And he got an award yes year. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:33:59):
Man, all basically said was I know that that I'm
looking at everybody you would have done the same thing.
Speaker 2 (02:34:03):
And he walked, dropped the mike. Mike dropped for him. Incredible,
believable stuff. You guys are awesome. Thank you. Yep. Hey again.
Election Day, get out and vote and.
Speaker 5 (02:34:14):
Those who already did, yeah, sit back and enjoy. There
you go, Sit back and relax. That's gonna do it.
