Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury Old by Houston.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury, there to usc true, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (00:22):
Rockets take down the Lakers, Texans beat the Titans. They're
gonna play on Saturday afternoon wild Card match up here
in Houston, hosting the Chargers. Drod Mayo fired after finishing
four and thirteen in one season as the head coach
of the New England Patriots. Sean Tripley, Good morning, what's happening?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Good morning?
Speaker 6 (00:44):
What's going on? Good morning? How are you guys doing good? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (00:49):
We're good, man, Yeah, yeah, we are good.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Aren't we. Sis January sixth, people back at work. They
little cold, little chilber out there.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Little he'll get twenty eight degree When I got my
truck this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Where that hag hits you?
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Oh my god, what the hawk?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
You don't know anything, but you thought a hog that
hits you?
Speaker 6 (01:12):
Trust me that you have to think. So what No,
I said the hawk. You know when that wind comes ouling,
aren't you?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Oh? Yeah? When that usually, I said, hog, Dude, if
it's this cold out, ain't no hog hitting anybody. Okay,
all right, so I just I mean a little, you
know a little, but this is good football weather.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
Let's go, let's turn it on. Uh kind of turned
out exactly what we said last week. He's going to
start the starters. If you give me a driver or
two that work, then we'll get you out. Yeah, we'll
open up the drive down to score, get them out.
And I'm okay with it because right today, you know
what they think, even if it's even if it's fool's gold,
they think our offense is clicking again. I know it's Tennessee.
(01:53):
I mean all that, but that's that's what it is,
and it can be it can actually fool you into confidence.
We don't have any better feel for their offense today
than we did four weeks ago, because right, hey, listen,
but I love what you know. Backups come in, met
you getting involved. Damian pierced with the long run and
ran hard yesterday. It was it was a it was
(02:13):
a fun watch man. It was just to see some
of the I like seeing some of these guys come
in and say, I mean, are they they They may
have to be a big player in this, you know
what I'm saying. If something you never know when somebody's
going to turn an ankle. You don't know, so that part.
But it was easy to lose interest in the game
because Tennessee was.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Never in it. No, no, man. They came down scored.
But that's the way you want.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
You want to now go to the to your locker
room and go home this week and get ready for
this weekend's game and say Saturday game as you said
right Saturday day and with the Chargers coming here, is
that you get that feeling of okay, this is the
way our offen's supposed to look. So it just it
It makes you feel a little better. Even though it
was one drive and then you got them out. That's
(02:54):
just it's the and I think that that's what they
needed to do, nothing else because we know who they are.
You just got to execute it. And we know who
the Chargers are coming to town. So you didn't You
didn't learn much about yesterday's game other than you could
tell they wanted to get to ten wins and around
the league, man, some incentives are flowing. Oh yeah, man,
how excited were Mike Evans teammates for him? It was phenomenal.
(03:17):
It was the best thing about yesterday, Yeah, no doubt.
Eleven straight seasons one thousand yards or more. And then
the when he got it, fellas are running onto the
field and he gets a three million dollar bonus for
a guy who's not a self he's not a self promoter,
just keeps on playing. When he made that catch and
the fellow start running over, I'm like, they all knew
and it's it's the greatest thing. And a lot of
(03:38):
incentives met yesterday. I mean the Courtland Sutton got himself
a half a mil pretty early. Then they came out
and through the ball deep down the field. There were
some people getting them, but Mike Evans situation was it
was great to see and then they and then they
end up winning and win the division. So it was
a nice bonus day, big day, big Sunday, the last
day of the season for for Mike Evans. But them,
(04:01):
we will discuss it today. I don't know how I
feel yet overall about the Texans and coming into this week,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
And I do know this.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
The Chargers are a sneaky team in the AFC because
they can physically handle you.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
And Herbert can play.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
Yeah, and he's playing really good for he is he
can play and he protects the ball, and they're going
to shorten every game they can. You're not going to
get many possessions if the Chargers are doing it the
way they want to change, run it, play action, play
good defense, and they want to keep the score. Now,
they'll score some points, but they don't they like to
win twenty one to seventeen type games. I mean, that's well,
(04:40):
that's been hardball's m's whole career. So I'm not sure. Yeah,
the drive was great. I be honest with you, watching
a bunch of different games yesterday, it wasn't. You're looking
at pieces and how this comes in, and you know,
little things like you know, another offensive line, penalty, re movement,
the little things that bug me that you're still going
on the road. Got to be able to handle because
after this week, if they win, they'll be going on
(05:01):
a road more than likely. Right, Yeah, So it just
I don't like and who knows how long you go
on the road and how the playoffs go. But I
still don't feel comfortable offensively that this is who they
are yet. And that's crazy if you don't know their
true identity. Eighteen weeks and seventeen games in Yeah. Well,
(05:24):
I mean it's a hard fact. We don't know last year.
Last year it was there was young players and a
quarterback and an upstart offensive coordinator. This year it started
to me, I thought their m O was mixing and
play great defense. It's still pressure. They're gonna have to
Joe's gonna have to play well against the Chargers, and
so is that offensive line.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
Yeah, there is no doubt, man, that's what it's gonna be.
The key is the offensive line, especially against the Chargers
have one of the best run blocking defenses in all
of football. In that drive yesterday, c J. Strouds six
is six fifty yards with a touchdown, Joe Mixon five
carries twenty three yards, almost five yards of carry, and
then of course Nico Collins five receptions thirty eight yards.
(06:07):
So the one drive against a really bad Tennessee Titans
team looked really good. Will Levis Sean Will Levis does
some things that you're like, damn, this dude.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
This dude.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Obviously we know the arm, we talked about that for forever,
but it's like some of those throws he makes, I'm like, damn,
this guy is really good. And then out of nowhere.
He is just awful.
Speaker 6 (06:29):
Well, dude, he don't have a guy five yards opening
misses him by ten yards.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
It's crazy. I just said he just listen.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
The Titans had the first pick right now they do.
Excuse me because what you call it's one and they
lost New England, which was part and parcel. I think
they may have fired Drid Mayo. Anyway, they have their
It feels like they have their eyes set.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
On Mike Vaibel right that they didn't want, which is
weird to me because you could have had him last year.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Right, and which is also weird that did coach Mayo
really have a chances? Now you got it? You're starting
Drake may young quarterback. You don't have many players Bill
left with of what a four and thirteen season, So
the cupboard wasn't there, but it sure wasn't full. Right,
They have some good players, but quite frankly, they.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Don't have a lot of weapons. No they don't.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
They're not saying they're right, and so what what did
you What did you think was going to happen? If
you're the craftman, you know you knew you were. You
were setting him up almost for when you do that
to a rookie coach. It doesn't matter what rookie coach,
they're getting the job more than likely because the guy
either got real old and retired or wasn't very good,
or had to create it just you know, like Belichick,
(07:39):
it was time to move on and uh to North
Carolina's gain. But with that, you're you know, it wouldn't
matter where if you're not going to give him at
least some arsenal to give him a two year build,
even two years. Listen, well, Sean, what about Cully? And
there's difference here even though they were all in Lovey
Smith been a coach, David Cully Heaby, and Mayo was
(08:02):
in the building and had been there. He didn't go
outside the building and get an offensive guy that's a
wide receiver coach.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
He just who was not ready for the stuff.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
And maybe Girod Mayo wasn't ready either, but he'd been
on Bill's staff as an assistant for a while.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Now.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
How he got the gig or who he got in
cahoots with, I don't know, because we're all the way
out here. If somebody in the building or covers them
every day may know more. But in truth, just on
the on the optics of it. What chance did he
really have? Hedn't give them any chance. I mean it
wouldn't have in truth, Well, Sean, look what horrible? And yeah,
what Harball has a quarterback to start? Drank May's going
to be a hell of a player. I'm gonna tell
(08:34):
you what, even if they got the first pick, I
wouldn't take quarterback. I think you're I think that the
Tennessee may be forced to getting back to Levis in
a second to take the first pick of the draft
as a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I wouldn't have one. I in truth, I don't have.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
Now they're going to be one or two or maybe
three are going to get drafted high in that first
handful of picks. Yep, but I would not. There's not
a guy in this draft that I bet my franchise on.
And if I'm not doing that, then I can't pick
him in the first ten picks.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Give me a I know it's gonna be.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
Remember we talked about the safety for from Notre Dame.
I remember last year, for me, the safest pick in
the draft was Brock Bowers when he came in right
and then uh and this year was what Bowers is
a rookie this year.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, Bowers.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
We said Bowers and Martin Harrison Junior were felt like
the can't misses. And then when Hamilton came out of
Notre Dame, it felt like, you're just gonna be a
great player no matter who drafts him. And he went
to Baltimore. You're like, Okay, what was it two three
years or whatever it's been. And so there's those picks.
He to say, that's a that's a guy Hunters. I
think that guy. There's about three or four guys I see.
(09:38):
It feels like you have to do a lot for
Hunter not to succeed in the.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
Tight end from Penn State, right, he's Warren, Tyler, Warren that.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
There's some just guys.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
There's a couple of edge rusher in the defensive line
that I think Graham, I mean, they've got guys you like,
this guy's a monster, But I don't feel I think
that the guy who's drafted in the second. I think
that Jackson Dart could end up being better then then Sanders.
I think Sanders maybe better than Ward. Ward may be
(10:10):
better than Sanders.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Hell.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
There may be a guy that's getting dragged to end
up quin Yours may up being better at all of them. See,
there's no one that I would not turn my franchise
over right now to a quarterback. Yes, you just by chance.
And none of these guys are better than Drake May.
Now they may have end up being out, but right now,
would you do you think that you're safer with Ward
Sanders or Quinn Yours over Drake May after watching him
(10:32):
plays a rookie all day every day. Yeah, So even
if you had the first pick, you'd say, let me
go get Hunter and one of these linemen. I'd taken
that Tennessee to Levis. To your point, Will Levis monster
m I see this movie though, Take him out with
all the quarterbacks, put shorts and a T shirt on
at the local at the local football stadium, and not
(10:52):
know who they are.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
You'll come out of that sand Who the hell is
that dude? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (10:56):
Then you throw them in a uniform and you say
he'll make a jaw dropping play. You're like wow, And
then he'll make four plays. It's Zach Wilson all over again. Yeah,
with less hype going in. Levis had hype, and you
know Zach Wilson with this pro to, everybody was crazy.
It's you picked in the top three picks. He's still
trying to find his way yankin balls. But neither of
(11:19):
them make the simple play regularly. But they make spectacular players.
You're like, oh, that's why they got drafted in the
first round. I just need more of it. And that's Levis.
And Levis wasn't a first round pick. But Will Levis
is not accurate enough to be a dominant quarterback in
league to write at least right now, Yeah, it's and
he didn't get better this year.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
There was a play that he uped up the left
sideline right in front of the Texans bench that he
dropped the ball in the bucket from like forty yards out.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I mean, I'm dude, it it hit the dude he
drugged two feet.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Yes, he caught it, and I was like, holy hell,
this dude is unbelievable. Very next play, he like misses
a short seven yard slant router that.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Throws a shallow cross right. I'm like, what the And
then decisions he makes he'll come away with us. He
throws the deep ball for the touchdown. That's a punt
that should have been intercepted, and a guy just jumps
in front of him walks in on the deep defensive
backs like, oh, why didn't I just try to catch
it his waist instead of above his head and high
point it. So but he's there's no doubting his physical ability.
(12:17):
But good gracious, So then is it Ward? Is it Sanders?
Do you believe in some of this? I just know
this if I have too, if there's if surround a
player's name, I just think this is a very I
don't want to say weak, but a fairly weak quarterback class.
But the other three teams in the division aren't gonna
touch one. No In for obviously, but that team may
(12:39):
have already realized that Will Levis is just not accurate
enough and doesn't make the smart enough decisions at this
stage for us to commit to him. And now you've
got a chance at Sanders or Ward or whoever it
is you want. I just don't think there's that true
l Way type first guy picked in this draft. I
think I think you're I think it's risky because I
think Hunters. I think Hunters a is close to guarantee
(13:01):
coming into the NFL that he's going to be a success.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Is as you'll have in this draft.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Yeah, he'd have to not show up, I think to
be a failure in the league. Now, can you say
that about the quarterbacks or could you see them being
lepus in two years?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (13:17):
Or you say what they're they're the Sanders? Is Jaden
Daniels or Andrew Luck? Right, but it's the IFFs that
bother me. Yeah, And you start to see all the
programme they're going down. You know, Okay, he's the best quarterback,
but he's the twelfth ranked player and he still gets
taken third. You get my point, And you know how
franchises are. They're going to be craving a quarterback because
(13:38):
well that's what franchises do, even if it's not the
best player.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
Yeah, the Titans got the number one pick, so we'll
see what they do. All right, let's let's talk some playoffs.
The schedule is set. Texan's going to be hosting the
Charges of Discuss the next right here on Sports Talk
seven to eighty.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Hey, guys, my guys at Country Boys Roofing John Country
Boys ROOFINGLLC dot com.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Now listen.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
Price gouging becomes a problem with this freeze, somebody's roof
it rains. You know, whether you're getting out in front
of it or repairing something that's new damage. You want
to be safe and secure. And John and Country Boy's Roofing,
that's what they're all about. They'll go anywhere in Houston obviously,
CertainTeed certified as well as family owned and operated and
(14:21):
JF Shingle and Texas Windstorm certified. All that jargon that
some of us don't know, but we know it's important,
all right, But that is the case here and John
will take care of but no price gouging at a
time like this.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
They need to know that they can be secure.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
People are putting roof on, people are getting there, you know,
an estimate, or people that are concerned about their family
instead of oh I can get them now because they
need it, they're desperate. That's not how Country Boy's Roofing thinks.
That's not how John thinks. John thinks like this, mentioned
my name meaning my name Sean, and tell them that
I sent you and that's a thousand dollars discount on
the full roof estimate.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Let's make no mistake.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
You can't have a two dollars two hundred dollar roof
fixing or put a new roof on, get a thousand
dollars discount. It's got to be our half roof, got
to be for the full roof, and one thy five
hundred for first responders, military and educators. You can't double
dip on both. But that's for an estimate and done
with the full roof. That's a lot of discount at
a time when people price godget so you can trust
Country Boys Roofing, no job too large or too small,
(15:17):
and anywhere in Houston because they care about you. It's
country with a K and boys with a Z. Countryboys
ROOFINGLLC dot com. The number eight three two seven three
one fifty six twenty eight three two seven three one
fifty six twenty Country Boys ROOFINGLLC dot com.
Speaker 7 (15:34):
Buckle up.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
It's gonna be a hell. Uh.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
They have played Sean in the wild card round uh
quite a bit. I believe it's like nine times, and
every single time they played on Saturday at three thirty.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Well every single time.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Again, We'll see how this works. Try it again. It
will not be easy. I think you probably would have
rather played Pittsburgh at this stage. So the way that
they're struggling and Russ Wilson is struggling mightily right now,
and their offense is struggling mightily right now. You would
have got the Steelers at the right time. Now it's
(16:19):
a Mike Tomlin teon. They could turn it on. Their
defense will come get you. But you're playing with a
more consistent offense with the Chargers come to town.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
Let's see the Speaking of the Steelers, they play the
Ravens Saturday night at seven o'clock. I believe the Baltimore
Ravens are gonna win that one. And then on Sunday
it's the Broncos and Bills, Packers and Eagles, and then
excuse me, the late game the Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
(16:50):
and then on Monday, you've got the Vikings and Rams.
I think that Vikings and Rams is a sneaky matchup.
Vikings got dominated last night. The Lions put it to him.
They got completely hammered. No, there's no doubt. Jamiir Gibbs
ran all over that. Really good defense of the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
How good is he?
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Man, here's nobody in this league that gets to the edge, Yeah,
faster than that and turns a corner faster than that.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, is zero to sixties. Unreal.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Yeah, and they're and they're doing that without David Montgomery.
So it's the Jamiir Gibbs Show.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
And they have twelve fourteen, They had twelve guys going
in on defense.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Hurt.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
I would have thought, and I said it last year
on a show in Minnesota, that I favored Minnesota's defense
in this because of all the Lions injuries and with
David Montgomery out. But Jamier Gibbs is a freak show.
He's so he's so urgent, so in his quick twitch
and he's so sudden and he gets there and you're like,
I had.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
The angle on him, but I couldn't get to him.
Is they But Detroit did what they do.
Speaker 8 (17:50):
Man.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
They took care of their business at home, and they
are they are special and they're still dangerous as hell.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Defense are not like that. But their defense played well.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
And you know, Sam had a rough go of it
last night and they were knocking him around a little bit,
only a couple of sacks and they don't get to
the quarterback much. Hell, they're leading. Isn't the leading sack
guy still Hutchinson And he's on the sidelines, so he'd
been leading the team in sacks. I think it's seven
and a half and he's been out since what October. Yeah,
so they don't pressure you a lot without him, and
(18:22):
their top two sack guys weren't in the game.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
But that's a dangerous, dangerous team. And here coming here.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Though, you probably would have rather had the Pittsburgh Steelers
because with the charge, you know you're gonna have to
bow your neck in this one. They're gonna run it,
they're gonna play action, and they've got a really of
all the quarterbacks we're talking about, you know, Burrows thirty
seven of forty six this week, and Lamar Jackson's playing
at a pace right now that I mean, I think
Josh Allen's gonna win the MVP, but damn Lamar Jackson season.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
And would somebody with a narrative that he can't throw,
would you guys just stop? Ye go out the wall.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
You can't keep living there because now I start to
question credibility that you're not watch day. What's the ex
So tell me why you're saying it. They can't. People
can't tell you why the guy you're you know, pumping
it up at mid four hundreds and rushing for nine
hundred yards and throwing for four turty through it to
the our team four times, and through what forty.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Touchdowns or something. Yeah, it's over forty yeah, forty one. Yeah,
it's crazy.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
But you know what, through all this, the Borough play,
the Allen play, the Jackson play, Golfs play Darnald. You
know last night was a struggle, but that quarterback play.
This dude in Los Angeles is playing good football. Herbert is,
and he's got the right coaching demeanor to lead him
where he needs to go right. And his legs, well,
we'll get into it as week goes on. Be careful
(19:41):
with his legs. Now, he's he's pretty he's underrated carrying
the football. They'll get something out of that this week,
meaning the Chargers, and it's something that the that the
Texans defense cannot take for granted.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
Yeah they can't, there's no way. And then also JK.
Dobbins runs the football pretty damn well. Yeah, just super
physical and of course it's Jim RBA.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
What do you expect.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Then that's how they're gonna win. They're gonna make some
big plays. They've got the ability to throw it if
they need to throw it. Fifteen times in a row,
but he's gonna wear you out and play action. You
and a Jim harball team is not going to be
ever known for finesse as first at least, and at
this time of year, I'd say that they're probably quite
grateful that that's how they build their team.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
Would you rather play on a Saturday game or a
Sunday game? As a player player, I don't really care.
Not when it gets to the playoffs. Yeah, when it
gets to the playoffs, it's like it's almost as if
you want Saturday because you want the game to get
here quicker and you know, less talk and just go play.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
It didn't matter.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
I'm one of those guys that the sooner it gets
there and the sooner the day, earlier in the day
the game is, let's get out. I want to go
a place, you know, to set around and let it
fester all day and out think yourself. I want to
get out of bed and go play. Yeah that's how
I've always That's how I've always been.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yeah, I play Saturday three quite literally.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
That's what they've played every single freaking season that they
made the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Yeah, every Saturday. This will be a hell of a
physical test for them.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Yeah, it's it's it's like Christmas Man, same day every year,
first Saturday in January. Round okay, baby, give it to
the Texans at three thirty. What are the crowds going
to be?
Speaker 9 (21:18):
Like?
Speaker 6 (21:20):
Oh, I think I think they'll be packed. Yeah, it's
a playoff game. I mean it better be. I would
hope back to back ten wins seasons. And I know
it was a little bit odd. The way they got
to ten was wasn't as pretty as you wanted it
to be. But there's still ten wins and won the division.
Now they get a chance in the new tournament.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Saying that you and I both predicted them at ten
and seven, and Triple you had them at like fourteen
and three or something like that.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
The good thirteen wins did it? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Yeah, Triple you remember what you predicted.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
I'll try at thirteen. Yeah it's all right.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
By the way, still get there, no, no, no, but
not a regular season? A regular season? Yeah yeah, I uh,
we're about to say, by the way, what.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
I was gonna say to we'll get back to football.
But have you been watching how good? Now? Big ten's good?
Good conference? Have you seen how good?
Speaker 10 (22:10):
You?
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Have you seen how good SEC basketball is Yeah, it's
pretty good. They've got like twelve teams and that I mean,
the teams are not even talking about can win. Yeah,
I mean Kentucky, I don't know if you saw the
Kentucky game over the weekend, you know, and in Tennessee
at number one. Tennessee is really good too. Man, they're physical.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
But the SEC, the brand of basketball they're playing this year,
it's like you woke up and it's like what, Yeah,
it was like twelve teams to four team teams. You're like, man,
who who's the worst team in the conference? They're pretty good?
Speaker 5 (22:45):
Well, I mean you got it's Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma,
Texas A and M Mississippi State.
Speaker 6 (22:57):
And nobody's talking about Misissippi State. Not a lot of
people are talking about Texas A and M. I'm just trying.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
Yeah, an Ole miss that that just named all those
and they're all in the top twenty five.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
Yeah, and then they got like there's like twelve teams
minimum in the top forty or fifty whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
I mean they are it's special college basketball. We're head
this is gonna be a fun watch and then you know,
we know what the Big twelve has been in the past.
ACC is always going to have good basketball. I mean
it's it's uh, it's pretty impressive to watch, and a
Big ten will be their physical plotting self, right, but
sec basket of basketball. It was a fun watch over
the weekend with what Kentucky and Florida playing, and it
(23:35):
was a Kentucky they get up and down to flora
Mont typical even though even though you know Calipari has
moved on to Arkansas, it was it was a hell
of a basketball week and needless to say, for me.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
I love the college hoops.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Florida thirteen and oh and you got Tennessee at the
top of the nation twelve and oh so.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
They got well the Florida was thirteen, oh until they
ran into Kentucky this week.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
Yeah sorry, yeah, right right, it uh previous right, so
that but that's one of those things. You you play good,
you can't win. I mean you're watching I'm watching golf
yesterday out in Hawaii and Colin marcous thirty two under
par U Matsuyama broke the all time four days, scoring
(24:20):
thirty five hundred. Can you imagine shot thirty two undred
park not winning, I'll be beside myself and you lose
by three strokes.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
I mean, come on now, So a lot of good
sports and this is this kind of the official day
that kicks in January, right, Jane Monday, first Monday in January.
Let's go and the Texans. The text is gonna have
to gear up because the Chargers are not going to
finesse you to death. They're gonna they're gonna come at
you and try to punch you right in the face.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Are people working today?
Speaker 6 (24:44):
I I you know what we are. Yeah, but there's
always that built in. It's cold out, stay home, work
from home the thing, right, that's what it's gonna be
called for.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Like ten straight days or something, and figured out, Yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
I actually don't know if people are though my knowledge
it was so was the second third though, Right, that's right.
I mean where I come from, what is it? Corn
bread and chicken? Okay, code bread?
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Okay, go bread. It's good to break.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
We'll continue to talk about these Texans headed to the
wildcard round.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Next, I had to live out.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Usually, this is the day
where uh.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
The last regular season game.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
Yeah, yeah, well I saw Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen
are safe. Did you see the video of Jim Irsay
coming out of the locker room in like his little
like Uh, it's not even a wheelchair. It's like a
motorized like cart looking thing. Not a typical rascal, but
I'm talking like a weird Uh. I don't even know.
(25:45):
Did the dude's sixty five years old, It's not like
he's ninety five and they had to wheel his ass
out of the locker room because his hell's not great?
Speaker 10 (25:56):
Right?
Speaker 5 (25:57):
But he comes down and says Shane stykeing and or Chris, Yeah,
our safe.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah so, and it looks like I'd like to see
people get another chance to go at it.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Mike McDaniel's safe in Miami except for after the game
Tyreek Hills that he wants out said, I'm opening the door. Basically,
I'm tired of being here. I'm too much of a
competitor to just be out there. I'm paraphrasing, of course,
so he did not that that what a disappointing year
(26:29):
for that offense for the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
And you can tell that they're going to go. They
go when two is playing. It's just different for them,
and uh that's good. These well, you know what, at
least these coach this front officer saying we still see
something and allow them to build at least get their
roster together. Then they're tied to the hip. If it
doesn't work out, we move on. But I just I
(26:55):
think we fire coach too quick. I do now. Some
I get that, you say now in over the ad,
I get the one and done. Sometimes I do. We
saw it here. It needed to happen with David Colley.
I mean, great man, hell of an assistant, beloved in
the league, all that, but he was ready to be
a head coach and it just wasn't his calling and the
team won't very good. That's a bad mix. But I
(27:15):
like to see, you know, a little patience. The coaching
profession's brutal, man. It's a great job, a great career,
hard job, and I mean, you can be coach of
the Year one year and then the next year nobody
everybody you know. You know Stefanski's two time NFL Coach
of the Year. Yeah, two time NFL Coach of the Year.
(27:37):
He was as hot a commodity as there was now
they're wondering if they're going to draft a quarterback. You
heard that talk too, So it's a tough gig. I
like to see a little more patience and with the
Stikeen and Chris Ballard and you know they're gonna there's
gonna be a lot of debate in that city over
this stuff. But I just think you at least got
(27:58):
to give a coach of chance to see if it
works out. And sometimes for people who lose jobs, the
second time around ends up being better than the first
because you learn a lot on it. Yeah, tell me
Steve Spagnola doesn't deserve an interview.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Oh yeah, with what he's done with that defense.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
It's so there's a lot of guys, and I hope
for Mayo it turns out one year wasn't enough. He
just listen, they weren't going to win no matter who
the coach was. They're not that good. But they've still
got some parts like Drake may that can build on.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Yeah, and what Doug Peterson has done with the Jaguars,
it's I wonder if his time's up. Yeah, he's a
name that's probably going to.
Speaker 6 (28:34):
Be He's had an opportunity to build it.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
The way.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
He mean, he's had the chance now if they want
to go one more year and say, let's give it
one more year run back. But the clock is ticking
on the urgency for for him and uh and he's
a good coach, but you know what, you got to
get a little lucky with injuries and performance as well
as a coach, and what's going to go on with
Antonio Pierce, you know with that?
Speaker 2 (28:59):
So I got news for you.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
Start counting because you know in New York the Jets,
the Jets and the Giants are both you know, the
talk of that stuff, and the Jets are already interviewing coaches.
So you know, old Brook's not getting that job back
from a from his standpoint as an interim coach, and
they rarely do, right, So it's I'm anxious to see
there's going big jobs with a lot of blue blood
(29:24):
history in them that are gonna come available. I would imagine.
Then I wonder what is going to be at the
top of the list of guys you want to hire.
I wonder what the Cowboys are going to do. I
think Mike McCarthy's coming back. That's what I think, don't you, Yes,
I do. And there they'll tell you what. They've made
a hell of a run the last I mean, they've
played better football last six or so games. Oh yeah,
(29:45):
you doing it with a lesser lineup than they've had
in the past.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
You mentioned the incentives yesterday for a lot of these players.
Cooper Rush had himself an incentive if he I believe
it's a snap count incentive, let me double check that.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
And he was benched. He didn't get the start. Yeah,
they started Trey Lance. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
And then after the game Jerry Jones said that he okay,
so would have been a two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars and for him incentive.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
That's a that's a lot of money, yeah, because he's
not making five million a year, yeah, or ten million
a year. He's making.
Speaker 6 (30:22):
Well on the lower end of the quarterback spectrum, backup
quarterback spectrum stuff.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
And he was not played, he did not get the start.
And then after the game, Jerry Jones said he had
no idea that he had an incentive.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
So are you the GM or not?
Speaker 6 (30:39):
But who set him down and why they wanted to
get a look at Trey Lance as well.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Reportedly, Jerry Jones told Mike McCarthy yeah, started that, well
we can, and then to say he didn't know that.
That's part of it because I would think mich McCarthy
wants to go with the guy who's kind of giving
him a chance to win lately, right, and then he
yanked out from under him.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
Speaker 5 (31:03):
Are you the GM or you not? Like you know,
I thought he negotiated the country exactly. You know the incentives.
Come on, Jare Come on, Jare bear look Rush, I
didn't know the incentive.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
If you're Mike McCarthy, don't you gotta fight for the player, yes,
say no, we got to play the best player, Jerry, Yeah,
and you're really gonna do that, because if you're on
that team, you're like, what if you're healthy?
Speaker 6 (31:23):
And listen, So I traded there. They Cooper Cooper Rush
is the backup quarterback, right, and Dak Prescott's heard he's
played well enough to get him some wins? Right, Why
are you doing this to him?
Speaker 5 (31:38):
I listen, but I'm just okay. So look at the
franchise this year. It's so dirty. Look at look at
the Dallas Cowboys and what they did to Cooper Rush yesterday.
Whether Jerry Jones wants say he didn't know it or not.
Simple fact is he didn't play and he missed out
on the incentive. And then you look over at the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They knew that Mike Evans was coming
up on an incentive and a record and there was
(31:58):
like thirty seconds left. All they had to do is
neil the football. Instead they throw a pass to him
so we could get that Todd Bowles supporting his guy,
and I'm sure the GM and the owner had zero
issue with it. Then you look at the GM and
the owners, the same person for the Cowboys. Oh hey,
let's let's start Trey Lance. Let's let's just go ahead
(32:19):
and start him. And sorry, Cooper Rush, I know you
got an incentive coming up, and you know you could
make yourself two hundred fifty fifty extra thousand dollars because
you're not making very much money in the grand scheme
of the NFL. But hey, Bud, sit down, dude. See
I got a problem with that, so do I I
got a huge problem.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
I mean, Sean Payton comes out and they come out
and go deep the sun and get a big like
forty seven years catch. He needs like eighty some yards
and they came right out of the shoot trying to
get it for him.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
Hell, if it was me and you're in that situation,
you're throwing it to the guy five six, especially in
the game with Kansas City when you were kicking their
ass from the get go. I'm throwing it to him
fifteen times until he gets his record and he finally
got it, until he gets his incentive. And with Mike Evans,
how cool is that that you want and he still
got his when you didn't need to do anything and
(33:06):
I and then he makes a little run turn and
run after the catch. Phenomenal. Now that's called being that.
That's called not being a dirty not the only teammate,
but not being a dirty organization To hold back on
two hundred and fifty grand for a guy who's just
kept his mouth shut and played and Dack's not healthy
and you're going to rip that out from under him.
Yeah you should pay him anyway, Yeah, because he did
(33:27):
deserve the start. Yes, that's dirty man. Go figure though, Well,
it's how.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Do you learn to trust it?
Speaker 6 (33:37):
Because if that's in the DNA, if that's your thought
process going into it, sit him so I don't have
to pay the incentive. Why and it don't ever if
you're a fan get mad at a player for leaving.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
No.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Now, I understand the player too sometimes leaves because it's
just they're selfish, or they want more, they're greedy. I
get it, but don't ever feel sorry for ownership. Well
why would he do that? Well, well, here you go,
there's a perfect example of why the guy deserved it.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Now to put it in his check, it's ridiculous. Man,
I didn't know, Okay, I thought he said, Cooper Rush
is our quarter.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Cooper Rush like he's supposed to start, but we're gonna
go with Trey Lance.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
You think Jerry he's got an incentive?
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Who does what if he turned it around and said, well,
that's Mike McCarthy call and turned it Oh god, McCarthy's lap.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
That's a that's Mike McCarthy.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
Mike decided to sit him down, and I thought we
needed to get some run from Trey Lance. So now
Mike becomes up Variah.
Speaker 5 (34:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, except I think everybody knows that that's
a Jerry Jones call.
Speaker 6 (34:36):
That's so frigging bush league. If that's if that's how
it went down, complete bush Ley.
Speaker 9 (34:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:41):
By one of the richest richest organizations.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
And also nobody said nobody said billionaires got rich being
stupid with their money. But that's called being just a
little thing like that, Like if you saw Tampa Doo,
that's called building trust and in DNA and an environment
of culture, and you're building of trust. Yeah, can't go
anywhere without it.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
Man, you watched The New Landman yet episode?
Speaker 2 (35:04):
I watched it.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
Didn't we finish the last season already? In the season
one over, you said, well, last night, yeah, oh yeah,
oh I know. I bet Jerry Jones is in it. Oh,
then I finished it up until last night. Yeah, he's
in it because of the game. Yeah, I'll watch it tonight.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Oh man, it's a good one. Hell yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:18):
I mean I like that that that actor, that Bill Bob. Yeah,
I like that Bill. He says, Hey, Tommy, how you doing.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Bill Bob? I really like Bill Bob.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
I just wanted me to be in it, but I'm
too busy running the Cowboys and screwing people out of incentives.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
You know.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
But hey, that's Mike McCarthy. Call what they gonna do
if he dumbs it? Mike's lap nothing. Mike's trying to
save his old ast week man, it's very weak. All right,
let's get to break. Well, let's get back to these Texans.
Interesting matchup Justin Herbert and the Chargers discussed next to
Sports Flock seven eighty.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
No, no, now, you know, well, I will say, no,
that's the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Did I said the Patriots?
Speaker 11 (36:07):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:07):
You said yeah, you know you said that, you said
the Titans.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
I just wanted to say, said that they don't they're
not going to hire a new coach that they're holding
the male.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Yeah, because they got a coach, right.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Will Levis apparently loves Mayo, so that makes sense for
the Titans.
Speaker 6 (36:21):
Will Levis loves man. Oh yeah, it's male commercials, that's right.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Yeah, they're gross, so gross, nasty, it is nasty. I
would I would suggest that Titans stop wearing those oiler
throwback uniforms when they play the Texas. Not because of,
like you know, all the drama that comes with it,
but they're just not very good in them, and they
suck when they wear those damn jerseys.
Speaker 6 (36:40):
They put a little uh that's the word. I'm looking
for a little uh try to get a little dig in.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, they've done it two times down they're
oh and two. They got beat by case Keenum and
now Davis Mills, Yeah, David Mills, why bad? Yeah, David Mills, Okay,
Bill Levins and David Mills yesterday.
Speaker 6 (36:58):
Well they they tried to well what they should do.
Did every player exchange jerseys? So the jerseys back at
the right locker room? Probably they toe they beat him down.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Yeah, they were.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
They're just not very good.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Nope, they're not.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
They literally got beat by case Keenum last remember that
game last year they had to win the Texans did yep?
Case Keenum came into town. Yeah, because c J. Stroud
was still hurt. It concussed as we have to yep.
And then this year it was it was a concussion.
It was yeah, week two of that concussion. Yeah, so
this year he stayed healthy.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Meanings, c J.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
Stroud, What do you think the element of Justin Herbert
is gonna do?
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (37:36):
And again we're gonna dig into it all week long,
but just what do you think the the element of
Justin Herbert does with them coming into town for the Charger?
Speaker 6 (37:44):
Look at his Look at his numbers too. I mean
they're not as gaudy as some of the other guys
because they spend a lot of time shortening games and
running it. But he's accurate. Uh, they playoff play action,
they're gonna run it. He's got a good offensive line
that'll protect him. And the hidden key is his feet
on the edge because he can buy time and make
no mistakes. He can rip it, he can make every throw.
(38:05):
He's accurate with the football, he protects the football. For
the most part. You're you're dealing with the guy. He's
not going to get the same run is love, but
that the big names are from this year because the
Burrows and the Jacksons and the Allens have had a
phenomenal season. I'm just telling you, if you're asking if
he can take over a game and carry this team
on his back with his legs and his arm, he
absolutely can.
Speaker 5 (38:26):
It's throwing for three and seventy yards, twenty three touchdowns
and just three picks.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
And protects it. Doesn't throw it to the other team.
Like we said, now look at that for a second.
He's thrown for almost four thousand yards and in an
offense that has required them to spend a lot of
time running it, and they you know, they'll get down
there and they'll pound you in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
They're not gody, But I'll take twenty three and three
any day of the week, right, is that what it is?
Twenty three touchdowns, twenty three or twenty three three? He
protects the ball. That's the one thing that Alan Jackson,
Alan Jackson, everybody said and Herbert the great ones this year,
and Burrow included that although they're not in the playoffs,
is look at these guys. The one that they've cut
(39:07):
down on interceptions. Your great quarterbacks don't throw it to
the other team.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
They just don't. Yeah, and Herbert's dangers.
Speaker 6 (39:13):
The Chargers are going into this playoffs and then truth
is anybody really talking much about them?
Speaker 2 (39:18):
No, they're not.
Speaker 5 (39:19):
And that's that's the concern. Be careful, that's a concern
for me. They're good.
Speaker 6 (39:22):
That's a good football team that will You're gonna have
to work for everything. Jim Harbaughs teams and the way
the Chargers play this year, they are used to beating themselves.
If you remember in the past, they couldn't get a
call right on third you know, time management and Staley
is a smart coordinator, but it wasn't right for the
head coaching decisions and they had to make a change.
(39:42):
Jim Harbaugh is right for those decisions. This is they
don't beat themselves very often. Michigan didn't do it very often.
This team doesn't either.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
Let's see defensively, as we get ready to go to break,
guess who the number one team defenses in all of
football as far as pointsburg game. It is the Los
Angeles Chargers. They only allow seventeen point seven points.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
And I want you to think about that for a second.
You're saying this on a team that we talk about
the offense and Herbert and then being able to protect
the football and run it.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
We talk about that.
Speaker 6 (40:16):
Their defense has actually been a big reason why they're
in this position.
Speaker 5 (40:20):
Number fourteen in the league as far as yards per
game on the ground, and then you look at yards
per game passing, they are right below the Texans one, two, three, four.
They are number seven in the league. Texans are number.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
Six pass defense.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Yes, pass defense. So they're gonna be formidable. Yeah, they're
gonna be good, no question. Let's get into the seven.
I wouldn't expect a forty to thirty eight game. No,
I'm gonna take the under to be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
And I think the Chargers are an early favorite of
two and a half, so I would take the under
because I think it's going to be a hard nose, physical,
physical type game. But again, we'll dig into that much
mudd much more as the week goes on. Because they
will be playing on Saturday. It's a three thirty kickoff
over at NRG Stadium. Let's take a look at the
entire playoff picture in the NFL as we get into
(41:10):
the seven o'clock our Right here on the Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 11 (41:12):
Show ab E Houston, ADHD two Houston, an iHeart radio station.
Speaker 4 (41:18):

your home teams.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
This is Sports Talk seven nineteen.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Salisbury, Oldbury, Salsbury, Houston.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
To USC Troves, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
Texans beat the Titans. They're gonna host the Chargers this
Saturday at NRG Stadium. Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
Patriots fire their head coach Drawn Mayo after just one season.
Got some college football playoffs that are gonna be later
on this week as well, Thursday and Friday or those games.
(42:14):
Alex bregnan' is still free agent. By the way, there's
your Astros update for the morning.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Man.
Speaker 6 (42:20):
We're a January now, they're kicking in there six weeks.
We've got to get I mean, they're now kicking it in.
Before you know it, they're gonna be reporting. Man, where's
he gonna report?
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Boston? Boston.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
You're gonna be bricked up when that news comes out.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Yeah, you think I'll be bricked up when he goes
to Boston.
Speaker 5 (42:44):
No, you'll probably be like, look, man, it's a really
good get. Devers is gonna have to play first base,
Bregnant at third base.
Speaker 6 (42:50):
I mean, you gotta give me some love. If I
mean you don't want him here, but if you're resigned
to the fact that he's leaving Boston's.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Okay for you, right, that's all right? Yeah, of course
I'd be happy. It's a lifelong I mean, he's no
Butch Hobson who but who is? Right? You throw door?
Not either?
Speaker 9 (43:06):
No?
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Okay, let's see.
Speaker 6 (43:08):
You know, well, you know Wade Box was a pretty
damn good third had a great eye, and you know
you had to throw strikes to box here you were,
you were going to hammer you any where he wanted. Bregman,
you know that short that that monster will be staring
him right in the face if he gets there and uh,
you know, taking him off the grass, throwing people out
(43:29):
at third.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
He's got to leave the Astros. He might as well
go to Fenway.
Speaker 5 (43:32):
Park thirty six days until pitchers.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
No, that's what I'm saying. It's incredible.
Speaker 5 (43:39):
Before we know, it'll be a month and then a
couple of weeks.
Speaker 6 (43:42):
And when we were so far off when we thought
Bregman would commit, commit to a team or side.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
I guess so far off.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
I guess the way that I think you and I
saw it is Okay, Soda was going to be the
big money first, right, and then you heard during.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
He was late though to know and still got paid.
Speaker 5 (44:04):
Yeah, so I thought for sure, and we discussed this,
but I thought for sure. You had that week of
the winter meetings, you know how the rumors go and
the reports and everything, and then Soto signs and I'm like, okay,
if Pregnant's gonna get two hundred million dollars, which he wants,
it's gonna be now it'll be this week. Boy, it's
it's it's January sixth then, and he's still a free agent.
Speaker 6 (44:24):
Yeah, which we said, Okay, the meeting's early December. Oh,
mid December, you'll be you'll be he'll be opening that
signing bonus before you'll be opening Christmas press.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Yes, now it's January sixth. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
I hope they got the plan that they like, and
I hope that the market's still ripe for them.
Speaker 5 (44:42):
I don't know what's going on, man, I don't know
where it's going to end up. But what I still
believe is that he will end up in Boston and
it's gonna be for like twenty seven million year, so
basically a little bit off of what the Astros offered.
Speaker 6 (44:56):
So and it's gonna be a good It's a good
problem to have if you're the Red Sox be able
to move Devers if you want, right.
Speaker 5 (45:01):
Oh yeah, can those two guys at the corners.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Your defense just got better.
Speaker 6 (45:06):
Yeah if you get yeah, if you land Bregman and
then you just you can have a little more versatility
and Devers doesn't have to play a position that requires
I mean, I know first base does. Don't misunderstand me
just a little different, right, Yeah, and uh, at that
hot corner can be something. And Devers is already one
of the more dangerous hitters in the league. And plus
(45:28):
there's protection, even more protection in the lineup. Yeah, because
you know you're gonna get a lot of swings when
Bregman's at the plate, when you're on deck and Bregman's
you know, in front of you, behind you know he's
going to make a picture work, which.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
Is a good thing.
Speaker 5 (45:41):
Yeah, yeah, Ad, And that's more protection for that lineup,
like you said, no question, And Devs Devers is really
good man. So if you have those at the corners,
good for the Red Sox. If that's where he ends up,
still who knows. So January sixth thirty six days until
uh pictures are catchers report and Bregman's still a free agent?
Speaker 2 (45:58):
What the There's no way it goes out? Is there?
There's no way up until like like a week tell
the pictures report. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:06):
I think there is a chance. We've seen this movie
before with Scott Boors' clients.
Speaker 6 (46:10):
I just if you're Bregmant, don't you want to get
of solidified and get gone.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
I thought you would have done it the week before.
Speaker 6 (46:14):
I'm sure he's working on his game, but there's you
can work on your game and be ready because you
know you're gonna end up somewhere, but there's still that
there's this like when you're committing off season, it's almost
you want that you want to be able.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
To visualize where you're gonna end up doing it.
Speaker 6 (46:28):
Yeah, because it almost feels empty, like you turn on
a mic and you're you're in your room. You know
it's not going out on the it's you know, it's
sign of going out here. It's like I'm working out
putting all this time, but who am I doing it for? Well,
even though you know on the radio it's going out
or you know you're going to get picked up for
a great for life changing money, yet you still don't
(46:49):
know where where it's going to be. So it feels
like it's empty training even though it's not. And the
hard part is to discipline yourself because the season's coming
and when you're not signed with anybody, you know what
these things to do is well, you almost feel like
it's off seed, that it's like off season vacation time,
when in truth is and he's a pro and a grinder.
So I'm sure a week after the season he was
beating balls, you know, in the off the tee or
(47:11):
hitting ball wherever he is, whatever his off season training
consists of, and getting his body the way he wanted
it prepped and ready.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
For spring training. So it's just it's just odd.
Speaker 6 (47:20):
I would have never thought it would have taken this long,
even with Boris as his agent, knowing that he he's
pretty well respected around Major League Baseballs FGM as a player.
Speaker 5 (47:31):
I've got a guy too, I'm I'm just I really
just think it's going to go up until pitchers and
ketchers report.
Speaker 6 (47:36):
If it takes that long and he still makes a
buck sixty five or a buck seventy. What a grind
man to know you're getting what you were going to
get when it all started.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
Right exactly all that, when the ash was offered to
you that like week one of the off season. Freaking maddening.
Oh yeah it is. That's probably what's going to happen.
Watch he's gonna hit up somewhere else for like a
buck sixty five.
Speaker 6 (47:59):
I wonder when these guys panic. Now, you're not gonna
panic because you go from one two hundred to one seventy. Okay,
I'm not talking about your panic that you're not gonna
know where your bills are going to be paid, but
the panic of and the ego part of.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Maybe they don't like me that much?
Speaker 6 (48:14):
How does that affect you going in mentally? I'm not
saying just bregnant, anybody, all of us would be well
as good as he is and as much money you're
gonna make. Wouldn't you be sitting back saying.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Might not as good? Wouldn't you start saying might not
as good as if I did? It would be right now?
Because you got to think about it.
Speaker 5 (48:30):
I tell you're inmpurgatory, right, yeah, because you've got the
holidays right, and pregnant's a father, got another baby on
the way as well, so you're doing the family thing right.
You got your friends, your family, your child. You got
the holidays right. And then you go through the hustle
and bustle the holidays, Christmas, Santa Claus. Then you go
to New Year's Eve. Well, here we are. It's pretty
mu quote unquote back to reality. It's January. It's first Monday,
(48:52):
and you still don't have anywhere to go. I'm like, man,
January six, hits you in the face. Yeah, and you're like,
I'm not signed yet.
Speaker 6 (49:00):
Ye as much confidence you can as you have, Right,
we all of us may have about our game. There's
always that we every single great athlete I've ever been around,
the great ones, that there's always that hint of the
fear of not being ready. You know, the great ones
are that they're they're obsessive. They're obsessive about getting themselves ready,
(49:20):
and they want to know. I mean, if they're OCD
like most a lot of athletes have that O here,
that superstitious or whatever, but that OCD, Am I ready?
Speaker 2 (49:28):
And it's still you can't help but say, well did
my last season? Are they questioned? If I'm durable? Are
they questioned if I can if still hit like I
used to, if my eyes the same, all those questions
that you start what you I guess what I'm saying
is you.
Speaker 6 (49:39):
Start to borrow trouble. You start to assume and think
for everybody's out there, they don't like me as much?
What's going on? What's wrong with my game? And I
wonder if that can have an effect on you? And
he's a slow starter anyway. Yeah, So I'm just I'm
just and I know he's a confident guy. But sometimes
the most confident guys are also the biggest insecure grinders
because they want to keep that confidence and it's not
a bad thing. I'm anxious to see where he is
(50:01):
when all this is done, because longer it takes it
would seem to me not only the frustration and knowing
you're not getting what you want. So if you don't
get what you want where you thought you were gonna
get to sit out to start the season, isn't there
part of you that's okay, there's a chip on my shoulder.
They don't think I'm as good as I was because
they didn't.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Pay you two hundred million. Do you ever go through
that in your career? Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (50:22):
Absolutely, Or you're like, even if you played well, you
go into the off season, there's always that you gonna
draft a quarterback in the first round eight years in
you know you're nine years in, Or you go like,
am I gonna get a chance to.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
Be the guy next year?
Speaker 6 (50:36):
Like I told you the story about the contract out
in the way, there's no doubt. I don't know many athletes.
There's a time where you go through sick everything's great
and then there's that lull. It's kind of lonely work
you're doing, and in lonely work your mind can run rampant.
Rather than that, you've got to control it. Right, well,
what if this is you start to what if yourself
to death?
Speaker 2 (50:52):
Right?
Speaker 6 (50:53):
It's different, but it's all relative whether you're a backup
trying to stay on a roster, whether you're a starter
trying to get big money, or whether you're trying to
whatever it is. I think that every you know, I'd
like to think of myself when I was competitive and
a damn good competitor, an athlete growing up and playing
at every level. But there wasn't a time at all,
(51:13):
even when you're a high school All American or you
go to college, you're playing at se and you're the
start then everything matter of fact, for me, it was
there's that the insecurity creeps in every day at some point.
And when I say that, it's not insecurity where you
need to be padded on the back, it's that insecurity
that you that self. Insecurity you got to drive yourself
to say, Sean, get that out, because you know, working
against you, everything goes well. But you we always tend
(51:35):
to think and I am one of those guys that thinks, Okay,
all this is going great, what happened on these three
throws here? Why did I would I do wrong? And
so we spend too much time focusing on that. So, yeah,
it's sure, and I think I think it's hard, but
you do. Then when you get four hits in a
game or you throw four touchdowns, you know what. The
first thought is, okay, by a little time, but then
(51:56):
you get back into.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
Yeah, but I got to do it again. So it's
that constant.
Speaker 6 (51:59):
So it isn't off season, but you're damn right. I
went through that in my ten year care. You want
to you win or you play well, but you still
know how fragile it is.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
And it's extremely fragile.
Speaker 6 (52:12):
And when somebody's not paying you what you think or
what your market is or what you think it is,
the number one thought process is they don't think I'm
a good player anymore. Yet you're still making one hundred
and sixty billion, right, they don't think I'm the player.
So the expectations, that's the key is less in your
expectations when I when I did that, less in your
expectations about others, and quite frankly will give you more
(52:32):
peace of mind about yourself because then you can't be
disappointed by it. So then you go and prove them wrong.
That's really the great ones to do. Some of them
pout about it and you never hear from them again. Yeah,
you're on your You're you are your own worst enemy,
and if you're not, you're probably honestly probably not competitive
built you're not beating. If somebody else has to correct
(52:52):
you before you know what you did wrong, you're damn right.
Then you need to do some self examinations. Self scouting, Yeah,
no doubt. Self scout is massive.
Speaker 8 (53:00):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (53:01):
If I could preach to these younger athletes, what would
regardless be your own worst critic and self have some
self awareness.
Speaker 6 (53:08):
Right and don't let it fester, get to it and
get moving on. The ability to move on from good
stuff and bad so important, no doubt. But the problem
is we allow other people to control how you feel
about yourself. I know it sounds cheasier motivational speech type
of thing, but it really is. I'm going to tell
you now. Self scouting is far more and self evaluation
(53:29):
every game, every day is far more important than somebody else's.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
Evaluation of you. I couldn't couldn't agree more.
Speaker 6 (53:34):
Man, what people see, they see all that. We all
have that that exterior. But the only way you ever
find out about what kind of player a real player
is is all the stuff that doesn't get coached and
you can't see, you know, you'll find out who that.
Speaker 4 (53:49):
Is, you know.
Speaker 5 (53:50):
I feel like the number one self scouter of all
time is Kobe Bryant.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Oh there's like just like, listen to his post game stuff. Dude.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
He like there was a game he had like fifty
points or something crazy, like he had a double double
fifty five and something, and he basically in the in
the post. I just saw this on TikTok. It's so
funny that we're talking about this.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (54:09):
They interviewed him and he was pissed off. They're like, Kobe,
your team won and you drop fifty five And he
brought up like two plays in the second quarter that
bothered him the entire game because he didn't execute.
Speaker 6 (54:19):
Hence rings Hall of Fame dominant and a trained friggin sniper.
Yeah on on the basketball court, yeah, Jordan Bird, Brady Manning.
I was a teammate a Warren Moon and I got
news for you, brother. Nobody self scouted himself more than
that guy. Yeah, and he threw for eight billion yards.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Right, So the great ones do, right, the great ones do,
and then they get over the good.
Speaker 6 (54:42):
They don't let the good fester till Wednesday. It take
it's over. Man, got to do another one. Yeah, and
they sure as hell don't let the bad. But you
gotta suffer a little bit, or you got to celebrate
a little bit, or you never get to appreciate either, right,
and both are both have growth opportunities. So we'll see
and you get another opportunity for the Texas to grow
this week too.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
No doubt.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
Let's get to the steak out next on Sportsbox seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (55:04):
The Shawn Salisbury Show. Put ours smart ass on your
smart speaker.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
Google play Shawn Salisbury on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 5 (55:18):
All right, Sean, what.
Speaker 4 (55:19):
Are you hearing out there now? The Salisbury's takeouts, sALS
Berrife takeout on.
Speaker 12 (55:25):
The Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (55:48):
It's time for the steak out here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Sean Brin and Tripoli seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety. Let's get out to the
phone lines. Talk to John first, John, what's happening, Hey guys.
Speaker 8 (56:00):
Good morning, Hey, talking about the Astros. I'm hopeful that
the Astros will You remember I brought this up a
week ago that they signed Anthony Santander. I've been watching
the uh boy, I tell you it's all over the
place because you know, like the right I think it's
called the Right Way Network. They said the Astros will
sign Santander. Others are saying that, insiders saying no, the
(56:23):
Astroals won't pursue him. So I don't know what to think.
I don't know what you've heard, but I tell you,
you know, having him with his forty four plus home
runs and your done on the same team is going
to be an awesome, powerful lineup. And I'm hoping that
it happens. I'm always asking for a lot, but you
know the Blue Jays have extended. Yeah, I think it's
(56:45):
the Bruisejas. Yeah, this extended an offer to him, and
you know some people have done that. I just I'm
just hopeful that that happens. But was learning what your
thoughts are on that because I'm I'm just watching it
day by day and I'm just hoping that it happen.
We make a run at him, but I don't know. Yeah,
but I'll just turn it oversee what you think.
Speaker 2 (57:06):
Thank you, John. Let's talk to Dennis so we can
get to that as well. Dennis, what's happening?
Speaker 7 (57:12):
Hey, good morning fellas.
Speaker 13 (57:13):
Hey, Sean just wanted to check in. My Devikes took
a big hit last night, Aaron Glenn and that defense
fand of the plan and shut that bikes and biking
team down. If you're the Vikes, what do you do
with Sam Donald? Do you a sign to extended deal?
Do you franchise him for one year?
Speaker 7 (57:31):
Or you just let him walk?
Speaker 3 (57:33):
And then one more question for.
Speaker 13 (57:34):
One more thing for you guys, You guys couples, go
ahead and ask why the rains are down in the
NBA because clown's like Jimmy Butler come out and start
crying because they can't.
Speaker 7 (57:44):
They want to force their.
Speaker 13 (57:45):
Way out of their team because they're not getting financially respected.
If Jimmy Butler wants to sit there and cry and
say he's lost his joy of basketball, how about switching
paychecks will be He'll get that joy back real quick.
I'll hang up a lesson.
Speaker 6 (58:00):
Other yeah with with but I think we give players
too much power at every level, and it's getting worse.
The empowerment. Whatever happened today, You sign a contract, you
live by it. We just and we allow them to
say no, I'm not coming. Okay, then what do we
got to do to make you happy? Well, you know what,
when is it? When are they going to have the
balls organizations to say we're not trading them, We're not
(58:22):
doing anything. If you want to see if he if
he doesn't want to show up, then guess what, he'll
get fined and we'll we'll just wait him out. Most
athletes don't like to lose money. Most people don't. So
I just I think we we got players needed more,
say fans need more. So I get all that I do.
But the seat at the table the players while they
(58:44):
we tune in to watch players in the games, but
the ability to there's still got to be a sense
of you work for an organization, while we know how
great you are in the organization. This organization football is
going on long after the player is done. But another star,
another star, another star, and there's always another star. Is
these are organization is realizing that while player in power
empowerment's important, there don't deserve to be the head seat
(59:05):
at the table once they're under contract. It's your business model.
They just happen to be great at doing it. So
that's one too. With the Vikings, Sam did not play well.
I think they'd be making a mistake. And this may
be what you saw last night maybe actually good for
the Vikings, not that they've got to go on the road.
But right now people are saying Vikings aren't a threat,
and that's a fourteen and three team that's not a threat.
(59:27):
They picked the wrong time to look awful on television
and to be playing for home field advantage. Now go
on the road, you know. Now they got to play.
They've got to go on the road. They got to
play in at least it'll be warm. You know, Sam's
familiar with that area. Donald is, so both coach. Listen,
everything you see, they're mirrored McVeigh, which quarterback Stafford or
(59:49):
Donald's going to make more plays?
Speaker 2 (59:50):
McVeigh and who has more players?
Speaker 6 (59:52):
McVeigh and Donald and Kevin O'Connell and Stafford. Everything that
comes out of their mouth is going to be the
same gage.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Right.
Speaker 6 (01:00:00):
It's all so we're just headed for who's a better
team next week? But Dennis, I personally, if I'm them
Sam did it for one year, I would franchise him. Yeah,
as much as I lay. And he's you say, well,
he's five years at fifty million. But if you're worried
about it, and it didn't help Sam's cause for a
long term deal last night, but it franchise him. That's
forty plus right around the forty million range, forty one
(01:00:23):
or something, the franchise tag, prove it one more year,
McCarthy gets to get healthy. We don't want to rush
people along if you're the Vikings and just let Donald
walk waiting on a guy who's a rookie I hadn't
played a snap and gonna be a second year and hoping.
And he may be, but you know what, how many
times we seen this in the guy's that's not since
And McCarthy may be a star, but you don't have
to risk that yet.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Yeah, let him get his way and play his way
into it.
Speaker 6 (01:00:43):
So if it was me, Donald gets franchised, he gets
forty million in that range, and then he has to
go do it again and then we'll deal with it
with he and McCarthy at the end of that year.
If Sam plays the same type of football. I ain't
letting him walk because that'd be a major mistake, and
then you're turned over to hasn't taken an NFL snap
yet now Donald stays in Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
I agree one hundred percent. I agree you got to
keep him and real quick. On John's point about Anthony Santander,
the Astros are three million over the first part of
the CBT. That threshold starts a two hundred and forty
one million. The Astros are around two hundred and forty
four million. Yep, They're not going to sign Anthony Santander.
I just do not see it happening because if they do,
(01:01:24):
the amount of money that Santander reportedly wants is going
to put them over that second bracket. They'll put him
into the second bracket. That means more taxes for Jim Crane,
more taxes for the organization. And it's already been reported
time after time after time that Jim Crane doesn't want
to cross into that. And I think the only thing
or the only player they would do that for would
(01:01:46):
be Alex Bregman.
Speaker 6 (01:01:47):
To John's point, I would love him to do it same.
I would that power baut in the lineup would be
all You and I both said they got to upgrade
that outfit, right and you know, to the two and
forty home runs wouldn't be a bad thing, right And
John over the weekend a tweet out talking about make
some of the most dangerous lineup in baseball. Maybe not,
it's not the most dangerous guy. Look at the Dodgers.
Some teams have got some guys like it. But I
(01:02:07):
can tell you this, We're getting Walker at first, and
now adding Santandera if they do, and then obviously with
Jordan in a full season of health and hopefully pain,
you get more power in the back. You know all
those things in yainer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, formidable as hell,
one of the better ones and could produce a lot
of runs. That power a bat is epic and you
gotta have it. Yeah, it's just are you willing to
(01:02:27):
go into that extra tax bracket and extra tax the
problem and just get out of your comfort zone for
one time.
Speaker 5 (01:02:34):
There's jerks and profile out there. That's a good addition.
He's not going to bring you the big power numbers,
but at least he's more versatile.
Speaker 6 (01:02:40):
What a solid player he's been. Yeah, he's still out
there every single. Yeah, I'd like a guy who can
who can change the game with one swing of his
bat in this lineup, it'd be great.
Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
Yeah, that would be great. They got to upgrade the outfield.
Let's get back to some football. Let's look at the
entire NFL playoff picture. Who are the two number one
seeds and what that could look like for the Texans
if they get past the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
That's next.
Speaker 5 (01:03:06):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, draw Mayo after just one year.
Got some breaking news coming out of the NFL. The
Jacksonville Jaguars have fired their head coach, Doug Peterson. So
(01:03:27):
there's another head coach fired, Drowd Mayo yesterday and now
it looks like Doug Peterson, Well it was the next
casual team.
Speaker 6 (01:03:38):
Last last segment or two segments ago said he's gonna
you know, he's been there, he's had a chance to build,
he's had a chance to build his team, and we
thought they were headed in a great direction. They just
haven't got better for three years. That's a fair that's
a fair time to judge somebody. And it's it's time
for Jacksonville. I think it's getting stale there and the
(01:04:00):
Giants are keeping Brian day Ball.
Speaker 5 (01:04:01):
Yeah, that's that's further breaking news coming from Adam Schefter.
That's surprising. I really did not think Brian Daball would
be back what he is and the.
Speaker 6 (01:04:10):
Giants one more time, and they'll obviously be running it
back with a new quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
Yeah, yeah, they're gonna need it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
So Doug Peterson, uh, gonna be fired by the Jacksonville
Jaguars obviously excuse me, in the same division, the NFC South. Uh,
the Titans are going to keep their head coach Brian Callahan.
He's in his first year. They did not they were
not very good. Jim Mersey coming out yesterday saying that
Chris ballor their GM and their head coach Shane Steiken
(01:04:39):
will return as well. Brian day Ball staying so uh
quote unquote black Monday in the NFL today, you had
Doug Peterson fired as of a couple of minutes ago.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
So that's the first one we've heard today.
Speaker 5 (01:04:53):
I don't know what else could happen as far as uh.
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
Yeah, the last, it's not the last we've done today.
Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
Could be who Antonio Pierce could be another one?
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Raiders?
Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
Yeah, obviously the Jets, how quickly are they going to
hire somebody win is Rabel taking a job? Is he
which one does he want the most? Is it the Patriots?
Would it be the Raiders. He's kind of in a
situation that Demiko rans was in where you had two
or three teams that wanted to use their guy. He
appears to be the number one guy on the in
(01:05:24):
the pecking order, not named playoff teams like Ben Johnson
or Spagnolo or even Joe Brady in Buffalo with what
he's done with them this year. Some of these the
teams that wait longer to hire, we know what they're
waiting on. The teams that you know, wait longer to fire.
Maybe also the Mike McCarthy's in the world. Are you
holding off because you want to do it, you think
(01:05:46):
there's a better candidates, a grass greener, or you just
like toying to keep people's eyes and ears on you
for the pub so you stay relevant.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Bring a non playoff runt before you hire somebody.
Speaker 5 (01:05:56):
Jordan Schultz Fox Sports NFL Insider. He tweeted out the
news of Doug Peterson being fired this morning, and then
he also just tweeted out again saying multiple sources emphasized
last week that the Jaguars would struggle to attract the
top head coach if they kept if they kept Trent Balky.
They faced similar challenges during their last coaching search. Owner
(01:06:19):
Shad Khan spoke with many people, but he remains unmoved.
Balky is staying Balky. The GM one source just now
to me saying, quote efing insane end quote. Go figure
an owner not making smart moves for their organization. If
you had issues last coaching search because of one dude,
(01:06:42):
how do you think it's going to go this time around?
Come on, man, ain't changing. It's not rocket science. Why
do these owners do this? Why do these owners make
this so hard because they can? It's always, I swear,
it's always coaches get fired. Head coaches get fired. They
don't get enough time. But yet these dumb ass gms
(01:07:04):
get to stay because they buddy up with the owner.
Speaker 6 (01:07:06):
Oh yeah, there there's no doubt about it. And then
they and they're there forever. Yeah, oh there's no question.
How do they do it because they can't because they
they make the money, They signed a paychecks, They can
do whatever they want.
Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
Like, what's the what's the is the polls up in uh?
Ryan Poles in Chicago.
Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
How the hell does he still have a job? Honestly,
how does Chris Ballard still have a job? Like, do
those two guys still have jobs?
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
I mean going on there in Indiana, in Indiana and Indianapolis.
Speaker 6 (01:07:33):
They Boy, there's some people who are down on Chris Ballard.
Dude bad, that's I know, that's probably any team doesn't
make the playoffs, he's gonna get that argument from you know,
most of the time, not everybody. There's some gms that
just you know, may have had a bad John Lynch
isn't gonna get any flack no about how good he
is or what he's done to help put them in position.
(01:07:54):
But yeah, man, you uh, these guys he whether it's
Chris Ballard, whether it's somebody in another city, you tie
yourself to that guy, and you're like, well, the coach
keeps going out there and struggling, the guy the general
manager hired, why does he keep getting fired? The coach does,
and the GM keeps hanging on if you're not giving
him good players?
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Who's that? Who's responsible for that? Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
Uh, Mickey Loomis, how is how does he still have
a job?
Speaker 6 (01:08:19):
The ownership has been with Mickey for a long time,
and it's almost like it's everybody else can go, but
Mickey's not.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
He's been there.
Speaker 6 (01:08:27):
Mickey was our one of our finance guys when when
I first came into the league in Seattle.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
He's been the general manager since O two. It's it's whole.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
He's got to be.
Speaker 6 (01:08:39):
He's got to be I think with one team pretty close.
If not, he's got to be the longest standing with
one franchise GM right now. That's a twenty two year run.
That doesn't happen very often.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
No, it does not. How the hell does he still
have a job. It's just crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:08:52):
Well to what you said, Oh yeah, they still have
a Super bowlring. But he's well connected to the front office.
Least it's comfortable for them, right.
Speaker 5 (01:09:05):
That's probably the laugh that he has every morning.
Speaker 6 (01:09:09):
If they if the loyal, if an organization is stick
by you all the way through it, you God bless you,
and they're st in Chicago. Think Ryan Poles is in
over his head right around needs to go as well.
Oh there's no doubt whether they will or not. But
you also got to look, it doesn't mean at some
of these organizations that struggle at the top. Sometimes the
GM's hands may be tied like a Ryan Poles or
(01:09:31):
because that ownership in Chicago, Buddy is a bit wacko.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Ya, and so you know.
Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
And if some of the same franchis I franchise keep
having the same problems and the owner's not willing to
trade change some things. A lot of these owners don't
get out of their comfort zone. It's just who they are.
They fire too fast, and they hang let people hang
around too long, and they don't know how to discern.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Between the two.
Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
Jerry Jones, Oh that's right, Well, Jerry, that's what you
don't get your hopes if you're never if you're a
cowboy fan, good to see somebody who's got more, who's
more the face of the organization than Jerry Jones, which
means he's never going to hire a Belichick or a
Saban because that would shift power where Jerry doesn't want it, right,
(01:10:11):
because then Jerry's hallway meetings, you're not gonna get the
same because you want to hear from the other guys. Yeah,
they're never going to hire a guy as long as
Jerry Jones owns this team that has that when you
wake up on Sunday and think, man, I can't wait
to talk to Jerry. Will not allow somebody in the
organization to be the face of the organization from here
on than him. And it won't be a head coach.
If if it's a player, he'll deal with it. He's
(01:10:32):
not gonna allow it to happen if it's a coach
out of his complete comfort zone.
Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
What a circus they are, man Like, just watching his
postgame presser yesterday. He goes in, talks to the team,
comes right out, and there's like a billion reporters waiting
for him. I mean they had it had to be
thirty reporters around him last night.
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Okay, So why would he go talk to the team.
Speaker 5 (01:10:54):
He goes and talks to the team, talks about a
disappointing season, you know, not the season we wanted. Here's
the timelines, blah blah blah.
Speaker 13 (01:11:04):
You know.
Speaker 6 (01:11:05):
My ten years in pro football, at no time in
a day after the game in locker room.
Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Did in.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
General manager talk to the team. I see the owners
would hang around, shake your hand.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
At no time. Yeah after a game?
Speaker 6 (01:11:26):
Have I ever been on a team unless they're like,
you have a game ball that where they've addressed us
and gone through his speech only the coach. Have I
ever been a team where an owner's walk down and
spent time addressing in ten years in the locker room
after a game, they may coming. You'll see him hovering
around a GM come down, celebrate and you win the division.
Now it's the coach, Dinny Green, Jerry Burns. I never
(01:11:50):
nobody addressed our team other than the head coach or
coordinator who had to speak to his players. I never
had to sit in there after a game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Think, man, the GM's talking to us.
Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
Ever and ten years, that's how changing that owners now
feel like if you're getting rented to off season and hey,
we're moving the franchise, were build a new stadium. Guys
get ready for the off season. But the motivational, hey
come in here and judge us after a game. None
of those players will listening to an owner do that.
Most players don't trust the owner anyway. Yeah, it's first thing,
Jerry badly enough. Yeah, Jerry walked right in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
See as an owner of your speech has become white
noise tired? Yeah every week?
Speaker 6 (01:12:26):
Yeah enough, man, See Jerry talks just to talk at
times because he loves the ego part of them. Jerry's
see at times, Jerry, the more you talk he thinks,
the more impact he's making. Quite frankly, Jerry could probably
right now make a much bigger impact by saying nothing.
Because NPE leave, people don't wonder what the hell is
the guy thinking about? I know every week with Jerry
Jones is thinking about too much right, way too much. Uh,
(01:12:49):
it's amazing. We don't talk about the coach. We talk
about the Yeah, we talk about owner's speech, not the
coach speech.
Speaker 5 (01:12:53):
We talked about Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
It's nuts.
Speaker 5 (01:12:55):
It is nuts, all right, let's get to break right here.
On Sports Talk seven to eighty, the Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
The number one seed over on the NFC side, the
Detroit Lions. So both those teams are gonna have home
field advantage throughout. You got the Chargers and Texans. Then
(01:13:16):
you have the Pittsburgh Steelers in Baltimore the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
That's gonna be Saturday, those two games.
Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
One starts at three thirty, which is the Texans in
the seven o'clock I would assume when you look at
the bracket because in the NFL, they have what the
lower seed plays in the divisional round against the Chiefs.
So if everything stacks up, if the Bills and Broncos,
that's the two and seven seed, Ravens three and six
(01:13:45):
seed against the Steelers, and then the Chargers four and
five seeds. So if the Texans win, the Bills win,
the Ravens win, the Texans are gonna go to Arrowhead
to take on the Chiefs in the divisional round. Yeah,
so well it's either that or yeah, I mean less
than any something crazy happens where the Broncos go up
(01:14:05):
to Orchard Park and take down the Bills, and the
Broncos would go up there and then the Texans would
have to take on I'm assuming the Ravens are gonna win.
So I hate to say this, but I think I
would rather take my chances against the Chiefs than the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
Right now. You might right now, but uh so, who
does who does Pittsburgh play in the first round?
Speaker 5 (01:14:24):
The Baltimore Ravens. That's right, They're gonna get cursed on.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
I don't I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:14:28):
I don't know how their offense. I don't know how
their offense is keep it up and the run defense
and the way that the Baltimore Ravens defenses started to play. Yeah, yeah,
they're they're frigging nasty man. Yeah, and Hamilton's a frigging beast.
Yeah yeah, I'm I I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
I'm not sure how you stopped the Ravens, right, That's
what I'm saying. I don't I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:14:48):
I don't know the way Lamar is playing, and Derrick
Henry and the way that they're getting the ball out
and his command of what's going on. He threw a
sidearm pitch underneath the guy's arm on an over route yesterday.
It's like and and pumped it right on the outside
shoulder with a guy trying to trail and undercut. Only boy,
the ball could be put, and only place that could
be put.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
He's such a threat. Trying to game plan him is miserable.
I don't now. Pittsburgh's formidable as hell on defense. I
just don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:15:18):
I'm not sure Pittsburgh can score twenty four points again,
can against Baltimore? And if they can't, I think Baltimore
can score on anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:15:25):
I think the way that you beat Baltimore is have
Baltimore beat themselves. And what's the narrative around Lamar Jackson.
He does not win in January.
Speaker 6 (01:15:33):
Well, he's got to pre tell you what if he
the narrative is gonna grow, The pressure is gonna get
huge if they are one or two and done and
he doesn't play like he's played all season because this
is his the truth is judging from his regular season,
you think this dude's gonna shine, He's just gonna you
gotta take it over. Yeah, in the postseason, but it
is time for him and this is a such a
(01:15:55):
they're listen. I don't know how if we don't have
I don't know anybody playing better.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
I really don't overall.
Speaker 5 (01:16:02):
Yeah, I don't know a team is playing better than
his team right now in the entire NFL. I think
the best two teams right now are the Ravens and Lions.
Those are your two best teams right right now.
Speaker 6 (01:16:15):
And the reason the reason why people won't pick the
Lions sometimes is because the injuries.
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
To their defense. Yeah. Yeah, at fifteen and two, I'd
say they've damn well earned it.
Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
Yeah, They've got home field throughout ye and then you
know you've got the Eagles which Jalen Hurts still banged
up coming back from a concussion protocol. You got the Packers,
that's the two and seven seed. They play on Sunday
at three thirty. Jordan Love hurt himself yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:16:39):
Yeah, disappointing for them. Yeah, hopefully I mean elbow. Hope
he's gonna be okay because I got news that you're
gonna need him.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
Yeah in this one. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:16:47):
And you know, we do spend a lot of time
talking about Detroit, but the threat of Philadelphia when they're
going if the hurt, if the quarterback's healthy, and with
Barkley and the way that that they've got home run
hitters on the perimeter, man and their defenses is playing
good football. This is a they're they're they're dangerous, man, Yeah,
very very dangerous. Where if you're Detroit, you're grateful you
(01:17:10):
don't have to go play anybody in that building. That's
what makes them dan. If you had to go to Philadelphia,
that's a hard place to play, man. But by winning
last night was a monster lock it in for the
for the Detroit Lions, right.
Speaker 5 (01:17:21):
They and they dominated. Jamior Gibbs four total touchdowns, three
on the ground. Jared golf played well. They they made
a statement against the How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
How does anybody catch that guy from the I don't know,
he is so good in the screen game with him.
Speaker 5 (01:17:37):
Yeah you good luck to play early in the game
where they threw out to him in the flat and
he shook off Brian Cashman.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
He threw him down. Is Blake. Brian Cashman is the
GM of the Yanks.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
Blake Cashman threw him off and then made a couple
couple guys missed to get to the first down on
like third and six or whatever.
Speaker 6 (01:17:53):
I don't know anybody that's I don't know anybody the
full speed in one step and that guy appears to.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
Be yeah crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:18:00):
Yeah, they're they're loaded offensively, even with the Montgomery injury.
Detroit playing at home is huge because you don't ever
have to face one ounce of anything greater or less
than seventy or seventy two, because you're going to set
the temperature in your building. Yeah, and they're gonna be
all and that city's going to be going wacko with
with this success and the way that they're playing.
Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Yeah, good luck to the Broncos. Going to Orchard Park
on Sunday, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:18:25):
But I can tell you this though, dude, that bo
Nicks the ball didn't hit the ground but three times yesterday. Yeah,
and the one that it did hit the ground, the
guy was wide open for a touchdown that he underthrew
the first first in completion. Yeah, but they are I'll
tell you now. Their defense can show up to Denver scan.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
We. I think Buffalo went at home, don't misunderstand. I do.
But I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:18:50):
If I think that you're going to waltz through this
one because Denver can get a little bit cold too,
and they play in that. And then that you know,
in a in an environment where you're in I have
to get used to the elevation and.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
All that it is.
Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
And they're dangerous team and Sean Payton will not hold
back on pulling out all anything you need to get it.
And the danger is the same things that cause you
problems trying to defend Josh Allen are the same damn
things that cause you problems trying to defend bow Knicks.
He is great with his feet and do his accuracy.
Think about the quarterback he and Jayden and Daniels accuracy
this year for rookie quarterbacks impressive. And Sean Payton, you know,
(01:19:29):
he'll control the game and uh, they'll try to run
a lot of plays.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
But bo Nick has had a elevacy. Wouldn't that be
a big win for him to be able to waltz
into that Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:19:41):
Yeah, so dangerous team. But Sean Payton's got them going.
He got the quarterback he wanted. Yeah, and it wasn't
Russ Wilson. H And I'm curious about what Mike Thomas
gonna do. Is he got to trust that Russ is
going to pick this up in the postseason or is
the last three or four weeks we've seen Russ Wilson
that's who Russ Wilson's become again. Yeah, because he was
having to he was playing good football and it earned
(01:20:02):
the right to be the start of it. Right now,
that team's reeling going into the playoffs. Yeah, the worst
time to hit hit that slump man and a wrong
time to play this week if your offense is reeling
because they're going to score, yeah, meaning the Baltimore Ravens,
Yeah they are.
Speaker 5 (01:20:16):
Let's get into the eight o'clock hour talking Texans offense.
What do they need to do to get it done
against the Chargers. That's next.
Speaker 11 (01:20:24):
Kd E Houston, k t D HD two Houston, an
iHeart radio station.
Speaker 4 (01:20:29):
Yes, that's a Rocketports Talk seven. Your home for your
home team.
Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
Salisbury Salisbury, Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (01:20:48):
Sewn Salisbury USC true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:20:54):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (01:21:02):
Some more information coming out about Doug Peterson being fired.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
Excuse me.
Speaker 5 (01:21:07):
Jordan Schultz reporting more on this. He's an NFL insider
for Fox Sports. He tweeted out that there's pure shock
around NFL circles that the Jags have opted to keep
their GM Trent Balky quote unreal, quote, makes no sense.
Quote what has he done to survive two head coaches?
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Quote?
Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
The job is not as coveted with Trent. There many
NFL people are stunned.
Speaker 6 (01:21:31):
Yeah, well, I mean you're the one who hired him.
You hired the two, the two head coaches at GM.
It hasn't worked. So where is the accountability?
Speaker 5 (01:21:40):
Yeah? From shotgun, there is none?
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
Right, all right?
Speaker 6 (01:21:44):
So I don't know what to say about it other
than he's got the ear of the owner, and as
the ear of the owner, you can do a lot
of things and have a lot of latitude when this
because the truth of the matter is, I don't know
how do gms get by, but you know they did
it here, went through two coaches and Wade and got
the right one. But Trent Balki's been around football long enough.
(01:22:09):
The word is the accountability. How often do you keep
doing this? And if you're not going to put players
in their lap, then why aren't you? I mean you
should be held accountable two ways. You got to help
them get players. You're the GM. You got to scout
them and do it right. And then you got to
find the right head coach for your team. And if
that hasn't worked, when does it get to the point
that maybe the problem isn't just the head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:22:31):
So not forget that this is the same GM that
was there with Urban Meyer and that whole bleep shit.
Speaker 6 (01:22:35):
They've been some underachieving dudes now in Jacksonville, underachieving for
all the talent that every oh man, this is Jacksonville's
year to run through the division. They they just became
another just a bottom third type team this year. Yeah,
and it's always going to fall in Doug Peterson and
(01:22:55):
it's going to fall on the quarterback. But how the
general manager is eluding the accountability is hard to believe.
Speaker 2 (01:23:03):
There is none. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:23:05):
I mean, if you're the head coach and your offensive
coordinator sucks for two years or three years and you
keep him, wouldn't you be there as the owner of
the GM go to your head coach say well, if
you're not going to do it, then then we are,
or you might have to go with him.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:23:17):
So, if you're the GM and you're hiring coaches, whether
regardless of their resume in the past, if it's not working,
who's accountable for that? I confess it's the coach's fall down?
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
Yeah, yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker 6 (01:23:29):
The all I confess he did it. Yeah, well, Jacksonville
better make them good hire this time or we'll be
revisiting this two years.
Speaker 5 (01:23:36):
From now, not going to be able to with that
GM still there. According to Jordan Schultz.
Speaker 6 (01:23:40):
Yeah, so yeah, you're gonna get the right guy because
you know what, don't kid yourself. It's like when you
recruited kid, you're recruiting parents too, And with this one,
when you go to a team, you're recruiting the GM too.
And if if the players don't want to go there,
or a coach is like, why would I go there
only to be put in a bad situation or a
situation that it's hard for me to succeed?
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Why would I do it?
Speaker 5 (01:24:01):
Yeah, it's like, right now, why would you want to
go to the Jets they're dysfunction?
Speaker 6 (01:24:06):
Well, the only way two a lot of mobile Three.
One you're gonna get paid a lot of money. Two
is you always believe you're the one that can turn
it around. They're gonna load you with bs. As every
chief coach does the player when it comes like recruiting them.
They tell them everything they want to hear. What you
know an NFL bringing everybody, It's all fine and danny
(01:24:26):
until well, you start losing. And then the third reason
why I'd go there is if you haven't had an
opportunity to be a head coach, you're a first time
head coaching, like, I don't know if you get Jets,
of course, that's exactly right, that's why. Other than that,
if you're going there for stability and stuff, you're saying this,
this might not be the place for me. And look
at all that bench and think about Carolina going to them. Now,
(01:24:48):
you know, Dave Canalis. Things are starting to go better.
Think about a year ago at this time, how people
were talking about Bryce Young. Yeah they're out on them,
done bust. Yeah, guys turning into a pretty good player.
He had a good second he sure he guys playing
He's turned into a pretty good player.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
Got a starting job. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:25:04):
Yeah, Well and looks to me like you may have
something if you build some players around.
Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
Yeah, crazy how that works?
Speaker 14 (01:25:09):
Huh?
Speaker 5 (01:25:09):
It sure is seven seven nineies number to join. What's happening? Ray?
Speaker 15 (01:25:16):
Hey, good morning, guys. I don't know if you guys
watched the TV series land Man or not. You guys
were talking about Jerry Jones. He made a guest appearance yesterday. Yeah,
and he was blabbling on about how he bought the
Cowboys because of uh, he wanted to be close to
his family. I don't remember that being the case. I
remember tex Shram having a lot of problems with the Cowboys.
(01:25:39):
Landry just had the worst season they'd ever had, and uh,
being from Arkansas, no greater pride for them to own
some part of our state and he can't own A
and M so uh. I don't know if did y'all
watch that or not? Because I told looked at my wife,
and I was like, that's not what happened.
Speaker 5 (01:26:00):
Yeah, So I, Sean and I both watched land Man.
I've watched the recent episode, which was obviously released yesterday
because they come out every Sunday. Sean hasn't watched it.
I asked him in the six o'clock hour about the
Jerry Jones stuff. So Sean still got to watch that episode?
Speaker 6 (01:26:14):
Ye No, I mean I watch it every week. I'm
obsessed with it. But I did not watch it because
of football and all that stuff last night. So I'll
watch it tonight.
Speaker 15 (01:26:23):
Okay, Well, if y'all remember, just let me know what
you think. In the morning, I was just like, I
don't remember that scenario playing out, But okay, all right,
you guys have a great day.
Speaker 5 (01:26:34):
Appreciate you, Ray, Thanks Ray. I did did Jerry Jones
get himself the Cowboys?
Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
Remember when that whole thing went down? Well?
Speaker 6 (01:26:41):
Yeah, I know, yeah, I don't really fired Tom Landry
and and he bought the Cowboys I think for one
hundred and eighty some million dollars or maybe it was
two hundred and eighty. I don't think he spent a
half of I mean five hundred million on him. I
don't think you can go back check what were the
Cowboys bought for?
Speaker 12 (01:26:56):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
They're worth what nine billion dollars? Something? He bought him
for forty million?
Speaker 6 (01:27:00):
There you go, and they're worth what eight billion something?
Nine billion dollars back in eighty nine?
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
Do the ROI on that one. Uh, that's pretty good.
I think it's pretty good. You'd think, Yeah, I said,
I didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:27:15):
I'll have to react to what you know he was
talking about afterwards, because I haven't seen the latest episode
of Land.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Was it the season finale or no?
Speaker 5 (01:27:23):
This this week was second to last. This coming week
is the finale.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Yeah, season, it's a good one, man, Buckle up, Buckle
up with this recent one. Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah,
every one of them is good from if you ask man. Yeah,
but this one, this one's epic.
Speaker 5 (01:27:39):
I wouldn't say it's epic, but there's some things that
it's gonna I wouldn't say alter the course of the show,
but there's some things that you didn't see coming.
Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Damn, we got altered early. Well, yeah, it's tailor shared.
What do you expect altered?
Speaker 5 (01:27:51):
I'm actually really surprised he hasn't made his cameo yet, Like,
when's he coming on? You know he's gonna make it
at some point about himself. It always does, jackass. He's
actually roll up off. He's a really good rider, really good.
I don't even know if he does production. I'm assuming
he does, but damn, dude, he will screw up a
series real quick.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
Do you t share? No? Absolutely not know.
Speaker 5 (01:28:13):
How many times did he take a shirt off in
the in the in the last season of Yellowstone?
Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
Come on, guy, maybe he's getting he's did plowboy in it.
Speaker 5 (01:28:22):
That's what he was doing. He was plow boying it up.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
Well, you know he's out there getting done. Abbit out
a little bit for him. Yeah, dude, what are you doing?
Speaker 7 (01:28:30):
This?
Speaker 6 (01:28:30):
A Wrangler commercials better Taylor Swift or Taylor Shared. Taylor
Swift she is yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Okay, aulth have met quite a bit of success. Taylor
Swifts kept her. Taylor Swifts kept her shirt. Probably worth
a little bit more money.
Speaker 5 (01:28:44):
Well, her and Travis kelseer in love. So they love
is in love with himself. Well, they love each other though.
It's so good to love each other. Are you surprised
he hasn't actually made his cameo yet? He hasn't been
on one episode yet. It's not like him, it's not
like happen. He's in the right Maybe the timing he's
taking shirt off. Maybe he will get into a relationship
(01:29:05):
with Ali Larder. Maybe he tries to sneak attack a
move on Ali, and probably and Bill.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
Bob has to go off on him.
Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
He probably will. Next thing, you know, they'll kill off
Billy Bob.
Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
You can't be killing off Bill Bob. The show goes
away if Bill Bob's.
Speaker 5 (01:29:16):
I agree, But Taylor Sheridan likes to kill people off shows.
Speaker 6 (01:29:19):
Yeah, you can't give rid of Bill Bob. Pay him
whatever he wants every every year, give him what he wants. So,
I mean his wife's you know, committed and loyal Bill
Bob's He's not mouthy at all. She's made to come
back at her career.
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
Ali Larder.
Speaker 6 (01:29:35):
Yeah, this is a big This will be big. It'll
springboarder into some other roles. But Thornton carries me as
much as anybody carries a show. Billy Bob carries it now.
Speaker 5 (01:29:43):
Or if you know you want to, or if you
want to springboard yourself into into the spotlight and get
yourself your own show on Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
You could just be Joy Taylor. Whoa.
Speaker 5 (01:29:56):
I waited until I want to leave that with a
load dog that I didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
Want to say nothing.
Speaker 16 (01:30:00):
You read it, I have, Yeah, I read. I read
it last night, reading it last night.
Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
Here's there's some thing going on. I mm hmmm. You
know that. How much it would be nice for me
to go off on this right?
Speaker 6 (01:30:19):
Consider you think about the big picture, a big picture
and the minor part of one in the middle, just
the stupidity, right, But I'm not going to why not.
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
I'm gonna way to let the facts play out. That's
what's the fact play out? Brian.
Speaker 6 (01:30:35):
Maybe shouldn't dude, this this lawsuit is she made a
fast track to the Yeah. I mean, maybe it's just
because she's great on air.
Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:30:44):
I don't want to back. But he was rapid. They
did some good things and she got a good show.
Don't look at me like that because I'm not saying
I'm not doing it like.
Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
Let mean they about it over the bridge. I want to.
I want to get into it good as you should. Dude.
It's uh, it'll make you say, oh okay, now I
get it. Yeah, now I get it. Yeah, I don't
see a lot of I'll tell you what.
Speaker 5 (01:31:14):
She likes to have those those bad boys hang out.
You know the her upper body upper body.
Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
Strength is a tremendous upper body strength.
Speaker 5 (01:31:22):
Yeah. Like I said, I don't you know why she
dressed like that.
Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
I don't know. I know about the ins and outs
of that network, but that's on that out.
Speaker 5 (01:31:30):
There's a couple of things going in and out, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (01:31:31):
Yeah, there's I'm sure today is a different day there today,
well a unique morning there.
Speaker 5 (01:31:38):
Emmanuel Acho involved in this as well, and he has.
Speaker 6 (01:31:40):
Keep an eye out, keep an eye on what they've
they've disappeared on social media and how their show I mean,
if they if they show up to their shows today,
keep an eye on that.
Speaker 7 (01:31:49):
Well.
Speaker 5 (01:31:49):
That that's why I put I put it.
Speaker 6 (01:31:51):
If the executives on vacation now, you know a couple
of weeks, right, we'll see.
Speaker 5 (01:31:56):
Oh my goodness, Triple, did you see all the stuff?
Speaker 16 (01:31:59):
Yes, I've been looking at it this morning again, man, dude,
it's it's she I'm looking. I want to see what's
time their show starts today?
Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
I know.
Speaker 5 (01:32:08):
Yeah, the facility with a MANUALO that he hosts that
starts at nine our time. I've already got it up
on f S one because we're awaiting to see if
a manual Ocho is gonna be f S one.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
What time does that come on?
Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
It comes on at nine o'clock our time. Okay, we
got their makeup?
Speaker 2 (01:32:28):
Yeah, no, no, put in ten.
Speaker 6 (01:32:29):
They're goett their makeup and hair done right now, getting
ready to go on the set for their nine o'clock
well nine o'clock R ten, which is seven o'clock their time. Yeah,
on the West Coast. I wonder if Joy Taylor's there.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
I wouldn't know. We will see.
Speaker 6 (01:32:42):
She don't watch their stuff, so I wouldn't know. Maybe
she's anxious to get to the bottom of this.
Speaker 5 (01:32:46):
Maybe maybe her and Emmanue Ocho or privately discussing things.
Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
Maybe could be Yeah, could be as friends. I'm sure
morning the light or what I'm sure friends, Let's go
to breaking? Sure as friends?
Speaker 5 (01:32:58):
Yeah, get the break right here. Sports Stock seven ninety.
Speaker 15 (01:33:03):
Going non Stop Sean with former QB Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 5 (01:33:12):
There is a lawsuit from a former hairstylist for FS one.
The lawsuit alleges that Skip Bayless offered her one and
a half million dollars for sex. But then the big
part of it, Joy Taylor made her rise really quickly,
got her own show on FS one. This lawsuit also
alleges that Joy Taylor had romantic relationships with Fox Sports
(01:33:36):
executive Charles Dixon and Emmanuel Osho to help her secure
job opportunities at Fox Sports. Also, she allegedly had a
plan in place. Once her quote unquote plan was complete,
she was going to go to her boss or another
(01:33:57):
boss and allege Charles Dixon of sexual assault and rape
that he quote unquote forced himself on her. So there's
that part of it that is uh allegation she.
Speaker 6 (01:34:08):
Put that down and had it planned just in case
to cover everything. Yeah, well, dude, that alone, forget who
the forget who the parties are involved. Just say executive.
I mean we said, but my point is, you know,
I'll make my point. We know who's involved. Executive allegedly
(01:34:29):
executives a talent on the air to talent on the air,
and an executive. The simple fact that if it is
true that she planned and was going to after sleeping
with and Kevin, an affair with a guy I don't work.
Both sides married at the time too.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:34:44):
So in this lawsuit, we're also alleges that Joy Taylor's
husband found out about these things and divorces.
Speaker 6 (01:34:50):
Right right, But when they when it happened, she was
married and was executive married as well. Yeah right, that's
kind of a rhetorical question. So the point is is
that how do you walk around a building comfortable knowing
that your boss is being fair with promotions? How do
you walk around a building wondering if you're ever going
(01:35:12):
to get a gig that maybe you deserved, if you're
quite how can you not question now the pecking order
of how somebody got to where they are if this
is true, How can you feel comfortable if you're another
talent walking down the hallway? And if she does premeditate
this stuff, like you said allegedly that was planning on
going and doing this to the executive, how do you
walk down a hallway and not keep your head to
(01:35:33):
How is there any camaraderie in the building, because now
it's like if you talk to her, she becomes a pariah.
If this was pre mean that she was going to
Oki do sleep with him, get the job, and then
Oki dokam and get him out. I'm not saying any
of it's right. And I'm sure as hell not playing
you know, the self righteous part. I'm just going by
what this says. Right, it's public court. I mean, it's
(01:35:55):
fouling court, so people know and they're talking about it.
So wherever the truth lies or somewhere in between. But
the most heinous part of it is because I'm sure
executives and talent that it's ain't the first time it's
happened at a network, as we well know. But and
it's taboo because it's it's it's executive and a talent
(01:36:15):
and some if it and when they're always afraid of
this happening and not ending. You know, Now if they
go off and get married, oh it was awesome. They
met when they were both interns and one became the
CEO and one's on talent. Okay, and then they're married
and they're married forever. But this is the reason why
they haven't a lot of these places having placed the
workplace right. Well, if all these how do you feel
(01:36:37):
comfortable sitting on the set, How do you feel comfortable
if you say hello? Or she's not going to tell
you if this is true that she didn't play I mean,
how heinous is that? Yeah, I ended the moral issues
is one thing which marriages were ruined over and the
rest of it. But I'm talking about the part of
premeditating this to claim this, didn't we go through that,
(01:36:58):
didn't we see this, didn't we see this play out
at Duke and now always yield later and the lives
that were ruined.
Speaker 5 (01:37:04):
Yeah, And she came out just just recently and said
that she made.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
The whole thing out.
Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
Like the moral whatever your moral code or values are,
that's for you to judge, right, each individual, and for
Fox executives and the people in that building to judge
that are making sign and paychecks for them to judge.
Speaker 2 (01:37:18):
But I can tell you this that the worst part
of this is the what kind of what does it create? Now?
Speaker 6 (01:37:26):
Wondering now, what if something serious happened to a woman
there or to her and she went and complained about it,
and you're somebody there to say, really, Hrgi saying Nick, really,
we already know what she planned the last time and
if she really needed it, and it kind of ruins
it for others as far as Okay, if a female
now is successful, what's the first thing people think in
(01:37:47):
that building today.
Speaker 2 (01:37:48):
Yeah, well, did she deserve it, did she earn it?
Did she do that?
Speaker 6 (01:37:52):
And it's not fair to the next person who does
go the right way allegedly through all this right, so well,
the moral clause and all that stuff you'd have to
deal with.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
It's if this is true, dude, you can't how do
you You can't have all three of them in a building.
You just can't. You can't subordinate one thing.
Speaker 6 (01:38:10):
Subordinate hanging around the talent or sleeping that that right
there is put you in a major problem. But secondly,
and the optics and all.
Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
But the second part of it is to plan this
and plan it out that she was aftergot the contract
and the job, was going to go in and claim
it was this. Oh come on, man, See, we got
to start to punish people for the false accusations as
much as we do for the person who creates whatever
that accusation is. I'm not saying somebody shoots somebody.
Speaker 6 (01:38:38):
We got to complain that somebody saw something different and
blamed on somebody else. Although it's another life involved, it's
it's probably fairly ugly in that building today. And if
you like, in the it's all alleged were reading but
I don't know anything. I would not have any inside
information or preview to, nor would I want any with that.
Speaker 5 (01:38:56):
And I'm not a watch Joy Taylor's show. But I
did notice in the media realm she went from like
just being on the radio well sidekick, Yep, she was
a Sidekicks co host.
Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (01:39:13):
Colin Coward dominates, says he should she When I say sidekick,
I don't mean it disrespectful. Just like Jason McIntire, McIntyre
is now here. There's she's the Ed McMahon and he
was the Ed McMahon for Johnny Carson.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker 5 (01:39:25):
So she had that, and then she continued to make
her rise and rise and rise. And now she's got
her own show every four o'clock every day, the host
a handful of others. Yeah, on on f S one
and so. In the lawsuit, it says that Joy Taylor
was nothing but a bartender and a random radio host.
All of a sudden, she became the host of a
big show on Fox Sports from Miami from Florida. Let
(01:39:48):
me say Florida. I don't know if it was from Miami. Yeah,
from Florida. Yes, now you now you're in Cali. Excuse me,
now you show yeah, now you know. Now you know why.
Speaker 6 (01:39:57):
And no matter what happens, whether this was true or not,
if part of this exisit wherever the truth is right.
I was fortunate to work with Linda Cohne, Susie calber.
Speaker 5 (01:40:10):
To, the greatest dude and of all time male or female?
Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
The the uh why am I losing my mind?
Speaker 6 (01:40:19):
Sideline reporter from Nancy and Romo, Tracy Wolfson, The list
goes on and on. Phenomenal. Linda Cohne as a sports
center anchors. She's the greatest female sports center host of
all time. Pros had fun all that, but we're pros, right,
and there's a there's so many great ones. I mean
(01:40:40):
you look at you look at there's so many good
there really are that are really good at their job.
Now think what it doesn't just right now in that billy,
it's like, now even if you're her Joey Taylor going
to the next job, or if it's this when you
keep everybody's gonna look at you like, did you earn this?
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Even if even if.
Speaker 6 (01:40:58):
She does have a job where she goes on or
something and rises to the next and it was because
they loved her work and she won an Emmy. You know,
now though, it's going to be really how do you
not the credibility part? Think about the sideline reporters that
that work there, I mean, and the hosts and the
female we talked about Doris brook Off the charts. It's
(01:41:22):
just it's and it's not just males. I'm sure do
their thing and find an executive that they load. They
may not be sleeping with them, but load their your
shoulder to shoulder to and get advances before somebody else
when it comes to promotions. But yeah, this it's just
not a good look when it's talent and executive. And
if it's allegedly true that oh my gosh, she was
planning on doing this and getting a guy in trouble
(01:41:43):
that didn't do it was consensual. That gives you a
six stomach thinking about so how do you have how
do you walk around the building creating teamwork there?
Speaker 5 (01:41:51):
Yeah, well, I just think about how hard it is
to get where you need to go in this industry.
Speaker 6 (01:41:55):
Whether it's she is really really look at Holly Row
Holly Rowe is going to go down as one of
the best, if not as one of the best reporter sideline. Yeah,
look at it as in her Giant she is so good.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
At just assaulters Pam Oliver, Lord rud Religious carving her
career out in the very nice phenomenal host. We see it,
we see it. But a lot of good ones. There
are a ton of them.
Speaker 6 (01:42:23):
Yeah, Well it's toll the point now where we're not
it's not male female when they're there's talking sports, right,
But in this situation, when it gets to there like that,
it makes you think, well, why did this person And
it's not fair to those who have worked their ass
off to get there. It's a bad look, the subordinate part,
but also it's a horrible look if this if it
was planning to sell a guy out after it was consensual.
(01:42:45):
We saw that movie and it didn't end well for
the gal, then it shouldn't end well for the guys
to do it. And it's not it's I If that's true,
the alleged part of it, then you then you can't
stay in the building.
Speaker 2 (01:42:55):
You can't.
Speaker 5 (01:42:56):
So I'm interested to see if she's actually you be
on TV today and he's supposed coming up in.
Speaker 6 (01:43:00):
Any one of those maybe one of those don't talk
to the media. You guys take a couple of weeks off.
Yeah that maybe one. I'm being here.
Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
Let's get our ducks in the earl, and then then
we go.
Speaker 6 (01:43:09):
We got some we'll talk to you. But today you toay,
you're getting a two week extended vacation. Not the way
you start twenty twenty five. If you're the hupple of
the executive, are there because you had high hopes.
Speaker 5 (01:43:17):
I'm sure going in. Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
All right, running behind, let's get the break.
Speaker 4 (01:43:20):
Next, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 5 (01:43:28):
He became suspicious at that dinner soon after missus Taylor's
husband found evidence of the improper relationship and devoice to
Joy Taylor. And then you just think about how she
got her start on on TV that there were There
was rumors in July at twenty sixteen Fox employees about
(01:43:49):
a news show that was going to be a big
deal as it with star mister Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharp.
It was known that Fox was looking for a woman
with significant TV experience to also star. Therefore, it came
as a big surprise when Fox announced that Joy Taylor,
who was a bartender and radio host in Miami with
no very little to no TV experience, would be the
moderator of the news show, a sports debate h called
(01:44:10):
Skip and Shannon undisputed. Miss mister Bayless later disclosed to
Miss Faragi, miss Farraggi is the uh, the hairdresser who
is suing these people. She's yeah, she's a plaintiff.
Speaker 2 (01:44:24):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:44:24):
Skip basically told Miss Farragi that he did not want
Miss Joy Taylor on the show, but mister Dixon was
adamant that Joy Taylor would be the star.
Speaker 2 (01:44:36):
Oh put some respect on my name. You gotta put
some respect on Oh, here you go. Here's another one.
Speaker 5 (01:44:45):
Mister Dixon arranged a dinner between Skip Bayless and Joy Taylor.
When she arrived, Uh, in provocative clothing and active in
a provocative manner. When that did not change the mind
of Skip Bayless, uh, mister Dixon asked him to approve
of her as a favor to him. Hey, Joy, I'm
gonna need you to dress up. I need you to
(01:45:05):
show some you know, show little some some for Skip.
He doesn't like you, but he wants to. He wants
to see those hammers we got, So I need you
to wear your your.
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
Your it wouldn't matter what she wore. Yeah, they're they're
not hideable. They're not hideable if you're talking about the attire.
She was proud.
Speaker 6 (01:45:32):
Wow, it appeared, it appeared. I don't watch the show,
but I have seen on TV that we all have.
Speaker 5 (01:45:43):
So here's here's here's just a little more and then
we'll get out to the phone. Last seven one, three,
five seven ninety, when Missus Taylor and missus Ferragi would
go out, mister Dixon, that's the Fox executive that he
would always buy the drinks. So in this lawsuit, it
says miss Faragi suspected that the pair were sleeping with
(01:46:06):
each other, and although this concern Miss Farraggie, as she
knew Missus Taylor was recently married, Miss Farragi kept her
opinions to herself. In June of twenty sixteen, while at work,
mister Fraggi noticed mister Dixon in the elevator. Surprised by
the coincidence, Missus Farragi found Miss Taylor and told her excitedly, quote,
the guy who always pies our drinks was in the
elevator end quote. Missus Taylor quickly silenced Miss Farragi, explaining
(01:46:29):
who he was. Wait a minute, So the girl, the
hairdresser gets excited. She just saw the executive goes to
the Joy Taylor and Joy Taylor's like, whoa, whoa, pump
the brakes. Hey, that's our executive respecting me?
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
Is our boss?
Speaker 5 (01:46:43):
AKA stopped talking about my man, my side piece because
I'm married and I'm banging our boss.
Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
I don't think she said that. Those are my words,
not not the lawsuit. By the way, I don't think
she said that.
Speaker 5 (01:46:58):
She's clapped by me with you, man, say that.
Speaker 2 (01:47:04):
What is wrong with you? All right? You gotta it
looks like you got some hawk too. And now there's
spits that spit that spit, spit that shim there, he
goes out. I can't say spit because I've said you're
looking at you hawked.
Speaker 5 (01:47:24):
To Joy Taylor, hawk to a sound about right?
Speaker 2 (01:47:28):
Don't it? Spit that out?
Speaker 6 (01:47:30):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:47:31):
Yeah? What was that? Did you hog?
Speaker 6 (01:47:33):
Hawk?
Speaker 2 (01:47:34):
Did you howk?
Speaker 7 (01:47:34):
A little?
Speaker 9 (01:47:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
A little bit? That's really that'll make if not stop
this is all alleged. That's right, legend right man, Man,
maybe shouldn't do anything, well, okay.
Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
She'd do anything at all. Just take a quick call.
Gary has been holding on.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
What's up? Gary?
Speaker 5 (01:47:53):
Thanks for holding?
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
Hey, guys, I have a question about the Texas.
Speaker 9 (01:47:57):
Put first, how much allegedly he offer her for that action?
Speaker 5 (01:48:03):
One point five million skip bayless off for the hairdresser?
Speaker 3 (01:48:06):
Damn?
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
Now, I question on that before the Texas.
Speaker 9 (01:48:09):
If that transaction is found out to be true, would
he be able to claim that under entertainment.
Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
On his taxes?
Speaker 6 (01:48:18):
Apparently it is tax season and I got any man
that spends one point five mil trying to get theirs
and if they get this, ain't nothing. I got news
for you. I don't don't change the subject now, harf
for just getting started, Gary, Yeah, I don't know, man.
You guys paying one point five million for it? No anywhere?
(01:48:42):
I ain't paying a dollar fifty. Yeah, I'm asking them
to pay me, but I ain't paying it. No, I'm
kidding it.
Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
That's an expensive price. Tag day. I'll invest in some
other way. How's that? The other ain't no kiddy cat
walking around after work? One point five million dollars? Amen?
Or even one of those shaved? Was it skinned with
it's hairless? Right? Yeah? That guy?
Speaker 15 (01:49:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
What's that? The cat's davids? It wasn't.
Speaker 6 (01:49:11):
Yeah, j No, that's not James on Austin Powers Right,
all right, Gary? What you got on these Texans?
Speaker 7 (01:49:21):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
The fact?
Speaker 9 (01:49:22):
Sorry, I didn't listen to the first hour or two
and uh, man, I don't know if it was just
me or not, but I saw a different uh uh
Davis Mills yesterday. He looked very decisive, very uh. He
was very confident everything. I know he's playing against some backups.
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
But was it just me?
Speaker 9 (01:49:40):
Or did he just look really really good? And did
his his payroll just go up the way that he performed?
Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
What?
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
What did you did y'all talk about that we didn't, Gary?
And I will tell you this.
Speaker 6 (01:49:51):
We spend time on like basically looking forward to the
Chargers and kind of looking at a little bit of
the pre matchup. I I've said, we said on the show,
and I said it. Davis Mills can start in this league.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
He can't.
Speaker 6 (01:50:04):
He's proven it here and with a good team he can't.
I don't think Davis Mill is ever going to be
the guy who's winning an MVP. But I can tell
you want me to go, Davis Mills should be starting
on the Tennessee Titans. The best quarterback they got and
He's not even there as a backup. So it's a
great luxury here. But at some point in time, Davis
Mills is going to want to go test the waters
to be a star because in truth, it's not going
(01:50:24):
to happen here. But I Davis Mills can play. He
looked confident, He looked relaxed the whole time, and that
also goes with some experience sitting back and watching at times,
this isn't such a bad thing, but I'm sure he wants
to go out and try to carve it. You tell
me right now. He couldn't have played as well as
anybody on the Giants this year. Yeah, he could be
the star with Tennessee Titans. Yes, the way Jacksonville's quarterbacks play,
(01:50:45):
he could. He could start there. I mean the Raiders.
I mean, I think Aidan O'Connell's got some potential. But
Davis Mills can do that. So, yeah, Gary, I was impressed,
but I expect him to be able to come in
off the bench and do these things if you need him.
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
Put it this way.
Speaker 6 (01:51:00):
But all of a sudden, it's a tie game and
he had to come in for a couple series because
some ankle or he had to play a half in
the playoffs. I'm not overly panicked about it, are you.
I think that his experience early on through some crappy
ass teams was pretty good. I mean to gain that
experience will benefit him well down the road. I don't
think this is Davis mills home team for the future.
(01:51:21):
At some point in time, he's going to want to
go test some waters and whether you trade him for
a mid round draft pick, he's going to want to
go because Davis Mills is better than a handful of
the guys I saw in.
Speaker 2 (01:51:30):
The league this year.
Speaker 5 (01:51:31):
Yeah, didn't they just get him a new contract, Davis Mills?
Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
If I'm not mistaken, they may have. I'm pretty sure
they did. He may have even mentioned it.
Speaker 6 (01:51:39):
But my point is is that in order to be
a star, he has to go play and regularly. But
it's a luxury to have because he came in there
and played really really solid football yesterday, and those type
of feel good things make you comfortable in case somebody
gets an ankle or what have you and you.
Speaker 2 (01:51:55):
Have to survive it.
Speaker 6 (01:51:56):
But listen those rears that think about Jeff hostetlerup quarterbacks
that have been thrust in to go do a job
and then they go do a job and you never
know when that rear it said, I would imagine this
franchise has a lot of confidence in Davis Mills coming
in plenty looked like yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:52:10):
Yeah, he was signed to a one year contract in September,
so they've got him through next season.
Speaker 6 (01:52:14):
There you go and impending on what goes right and
depending on what goes on, that's a good get. Yeah,
it's a very it's a nice security blanket.
Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
Who can play.
Speaker 6 (01:52:22):
But if you're Davis Mills, at some point you're gonna
want to You're gonna want to test the waters out
there and see if you can go compete for a
starting job.
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
He won't get that chance.
Speaker 10 (01:52:28):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
Let's let's get to break.
Speaker 5 (01:52:29):
We'll get back to talking about the Houston textans also
to take your calls seven one three two sevenineties number
to join right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:52:39):
Let's go. This is the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
They needed a couple of things to happen yesterday, but
it did not work out. Joe Burrow had a phenomenal
uh season about the Bengals miss out on the playoffs.
Seven one three two point two five seven ninety is
the number to join.
Speaker 2 (01:52:57):
Brandon.
Speaker 17 (01:52:58):
Good morning, Good morning, and how are you guys.
Speaker 5 (01:53:01):
We're good man, buddy. What's on your mind?
Speaker 17 (01:53:04):
I'm doing okay. How was y'all's weekend?
Speaker 2 (01:53:06):
It was fantastic.
Speaker 17 (01:53:08):
Did y'all watch the Texans game?
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Sure? Did?
Speaker 17 (01:53:13):
I missed it?
Speaker 5 (01:53:14):
Brand Brandy, hold on, hold on, Brandon, hold on. Now
you call us every day, you tell us you're gonna
watch the games. You say you're gonna watch the Rockets game,
you say you're gonna watch the Texans game, and then
every time after the games you say, oh, I forgot
to watch it. What do we got to do, buddy,
to get you to stop missing out on these games?
Speaker 17 (01:53:35):
All right? I was I was busy. I was doing,
I was doing. We were at the Saturday where we're busy.
Speaker 5 (01:53:55):
The Texans played on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
Brandon.
Speaker 5 (01:53:58):
Yeah, we gotta stop missing games. Anyways, what's on your
mind about the Rockets.
Speaker 17 (01:54:04):
Anyway? Train gring needs to shoot free throw?
Speaker 5 (01:54:11):
He needs to shoot a free throw. Well, he shot
plenty of them and they won. Brandon A what's that?
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
Brandon?
Speaker 5 (01:54:24):
Ask your amazon, buddy. We gotta get you going. Thank you, Brandon, he'll.
Speaker 6 (01:54:33):
Probably watch the game this week. Man was busy. He
was busy on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
Filler bed some free throws. Do I look like ESPN? Yeah?
Well no, yes, let's know you don't look man.
Speaker 5 (01:54:58):
We love Brandon, okay, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Do I look like the ticker at the bottom of it?
Speaker 2 (01:55:03):
May maybe you better fill him in or what happened?
He called you for some answers. Yeah, he's got an Amazon. Yeah,
well he's got that go you know, maybe maybe he
needed to fill him in on I'm shooting free throws
and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:55:15):
Man, Jay had He had thirty three points last night.
He was four for four from the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
A lot of pregnant.
Speaker 6 (01:55:22):
He needs to do well, he said. He needed to
make a free throw, and what do you do? He
made four of them. He's four for right, So I
mean like you like, hey, coach a belog Yeah, I'm
like one of those chefs, the other guy who sits
back and judges the chefs said back, Okay, now you
say got it? There you go up his game. Here's
(01:55:43):
busy Saturday, Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
But he's busy Saturday. Okay, Man's get Man got busy. Fools.
Better recognize you're one of the four. Man, I am
a fool. You got problems.
Speaker 5 (01:56:03):
I don't have Joy Taylor problems though.
Speaker 6 (01:56:05):
Man, what's wrong with you? You can just pile on? Yeah,
well you are, aren't you?
Speaker 5 (01:56:09):
No, no pun intended, but yeah, Ajo show's gonna be
starting about five minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
Can't wait to see if he's gonna be on there.
Well to see man. Tough times.
Speaker 5 (01:56:21):
Man, We were talking to off air that defensive coordinator
lou Anna Rumo for the Bengals two years ago, the
year they went.
Speaker 6 (01:56:29):
To the Super Bowl, one of the hottest commodities. A
lot of people thought he was gonna go get a
head coaching job, but he may have even interviewed.
Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
Didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:56:35):
A couple of years later. They gave up. I mean,
I know they're banged up a little bit. They gave
up a lot of real estate this year. Even with
Joe Burrow's damn near five thousand yards in phenomenal season,
they just couldn't get stops on the defensive end. And
just how fragile it is. Two years ago some labeled
him one of the best spag nola. He was in
the You know when you mentioned five names his name
(01:56:56):
was always mentioned as a hell of a coordinator and
now he's a looking for work and they cleared some
house on the coaching staff. That's one of those where
the front office comes at you and says, you need
to get rid of this guy, this guy, this guy,
this guy, or you're going to I don't know if
that happened, but you get my point. They made a
hell of a run down the stretch. They just needed
one more week. Unfortunately, in seventeen games, which should have
(01:57:18):
been enough, their slow start destroyed their chances.
Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:57:23):
Joe Burrow four and eighteen yards, passing forty three touchdowns,
nine interceptions. He had a completion percentage this season of
seventy one percent.
Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:57:32):
I think he was thirty seven of forty six over
the ball hit the ground nine times.
Speaker 5 (01:57:36):
This last weekend he was indeed thirty seven of forty six,
a comple percentage of eighty percent.
Speaker 6 (01:57:46):
Yeah, in an NFL game with the playoffs on the line. Yeah,
he's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:57:51):
Cheez man.
Speaker 5 (01:57:51):
Yeah, yeah, man, don't don't talk about Oh, it's just
a September game. They lost their first three and that
was the demise of They lost to New England out
of the gate.
Speaker 6 (01:58:00):
Remember how when everybody says, oh, you gotta win in December. Yeah,
but if you win in December but don't win in September,
it won't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
Yeah. And for them, just give me all they needed
one more.
Speaker 5 (01:58:11):
Victory, just one more Yep, they won five straight to
in the season.
Speaker 6 (01:58:15):
They won more victory and STUDJ just beat a team
you're supposed to beat early and they let a couple
of them get away from them, and now they're going
to watch and right now, the truth is, you really
wouldn't want to play them going into the playoffs. No, hell,
because the quarterbacks dynamic as hell. How are you going
to I mean, their offense is moving the football and
they're doing some good things. They'd be dangerous. I actually
think that the AFC is probably grateful that that happened.
(01:58:38):
They kept that, They kept them out.
Speaker 5 (01:58:40):
Their eight losses, only one of them was double digits.
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
Everything else was a one score game. There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:58:47):
And that was a blowout loss to Philadelphia thirty seven
to seventeen. Everything else they lost sixteen, ten, twenty six,
twenty five, thirty eight, thirty three, forty one, thirty eight,
and overtime thirty five thirty four thirty four to twenty
seven forty four thirty eight.
Speaker 6 (01:58:59):
And those numbers you mentioned, that's why they fired the
defensive coordinator and a handful of other guys.
Speaker 5 (01:59:04):
Yeah, listen to those scores. Yep, ye, All right, let's
get back to the Houston Texans. Seven one, three, two,
two five, seven ninety is the number to join. We'll
also get back out to the phone lines Texans Chargers
this Saturday at n RG Stadium. Let's take a look
at some early keys.
Speaker 11 (01:59:18):
Next a Houston ADHD Houston my hard radio station, and
the rocket.
Speaker 4 (01:59:29):
Is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams.
Speaker 1 (01:59:36):
Salisbury Salbury, Houston.
Speaker 4 (01:59:41):
Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:59:46):
To USC true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:59:49):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (01:59:56):
Texans beat the Titans. They finished the season ten and seven.
They will host the Chargers this Saturday in the AFC
Wild Card Round. Patriots fire head coach Jerrod Mayo. Jags
fire their head coach Doug Peterson. Why are you looking
at me because you're about to say something.
Speaker 6 (02:00:17):
No, I'm focused on getting stops on the for the
Texans defense. That's where all my focus is Bregman, wondering
where he's going and getting stops with the Texans defense
and seeing if you can challenge that really good Chargers
defense with some big plays this week. Need some chunk plays.
That's where I'm at. You're still achos on TV, by.
Speaker 5 (02:00:37):
The way, is yeah, Yeah, he's on TV acting like
nothing happened.
Speaker 6 (02:00:39):
Yeah, probably smart. Go about your business. See what it
is going? How much more business you gots? You better
go about it right?
Speaker 5 (02:00:48):
Might as well?
Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:00:49):
Oh man, oh man, oh man, seven three seven ninety.
We're gonna break down the entire playoff picture in the NFL.
Also talking about the Texans matchup against the Charge. Let's
get out to the phone lines, start in order the
longest wait, John, what's happening?
Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
Hey man?
Speaker 7 (02:01:05):
How you guys do run?
Speaker 5 (02:01:07):
We're good, buddy? What's talking you mind?
Speaker 7 (02:01:09):
Hey man? I got a couple of things right quick.
Speaker 14 (02:01:11):
I'd never find Dug Peterson. You got to put some
respect behind any coach that won a Super Bowl. That
to me, that's not their problem. They've been latching on
Callum for many years. But listen, I heard somebody calling
in them by David Mills. Look Man, I got the
same questions before the Texas Games. I got the same
questions right now after the games. We can't really believe
(02:01:34):
anything that we saw out there because a bunch of
scrubs playing out there.
Speaker 7 (02:01:38):
And that's for that kid, what's his name?
Speaker 14 (02:01:40):
Ye man?
Speaker 7 (02:01:42):
That was so funny.
Speaker 12 (02:01:43):
Man.
Speaker 14 (02:01:43):
He's standing up there like somebody about to hand him
a Thanksgiving then on a plate and homeboy come right
through there and just snatch it up and kept it moving.
That was so funny, man.
Speaker 2 (02:01:56):
Thank you John.
Speaker 6 (02:01:58):
It was funny. It's already funny if you're watching on TV.
If you're the guy back there waiting for the fair
catch and a receiver jumps in front of you and
takes it to the house.
Speaker 5 (02:02:08):
Back there looked like he was trying to catch a punt.
Speaker 6 (02:02:10):
Yep, exactly, I got it. I got a fair catch
it and move receiver boom rolls right through there and
makes it play. And the one thing about it yesterday
I get with John saying, but you can't really learn
much from the backups. But what I do learn is
that if I need Pierce, and I need a couple
others that you know, Metchi got good work in yesterday
it's still mattered. So you know, the real test is
(02:02:32):
in the playoffs. But what you saw yesterday a whole
bunch of teams, did you know place some of their
starter spots are some of them? Put them in street
clothes and don't be tempted to play them. The Texans
still have a lot to prove because I would say
going in, the only offense that I trust less in
the AFC right now is the Steelers. Trusted the way
(02:02:52):
the Chargers offense has been and running it. We also
obviously know about Baltimore, Kansas City, Buffalo, and then who
am I leaving out Baltimore, Kansasity, Buffalo, Texans.
Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Then there's Chargers, Chargers, Broncos. Yeah, I mean, and Steelers.
So right now I'm not saying they're more talented, but
right now, if you're talking about explosiveness and the way
they're going, the Steelers, the Texans would not potential, but
the way they're playing, yeah, you would put them sixth
in the in the pecking order of offenses in the playoffs,
(02:03:25):
and only Pittsburgh because Russ Wilson and their offenses is reeling.
Speaker 5 (02:03:29):
Right gone downhill quick, no doubt. Seven one, three, five, seven,
ninety Michael and the Heights. What's happened to Michael?
Speaker 7 (02:03:36):
What a dog?
Speaker 14 (02:03:37):
Pay?
Speaker 7 (02:03:37):
Man? Uh?
Speaker 10 (02:03:39):
I think I think it's gonna be an ugly playoff
game for the Texans because the Chargers can score points.
Speaker 7 (02:03:44):
Man, I don't.
Speaker 10 (02:03:45):
I just don't have any faith this offense can score
any points. And uh, let's can we can we travel
back in time real quick to the Ravens game.
Speaker 7 (02:03:53):
They didn't even want to be there, man, I mean
it was cleared.
Speaker 10 (02:03:56):
I don't know if you guys talked about that, but
the Texans didn't even want to be on that field,
and it was clear J. Stroud kind of mailed it in,
which kind of pissed me off.
Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
They embarrassed themselves in Baltimore and in football terms, I'm
talking about no doubt about it.
Speaker 10 (02:04:11):
Absolutely. I mean it's like c J. Stroud just kind
of lacks the you know, he just kind of just
some of those throws.
Speaker 7 (02:04:16):
He was just like whatever. I just kind of flushed.
Their attitude was.
Speaker 10 (02:04:19):
Let's not beat ourselves up in this game because we
already got a home playoff game. But I mean, man,
I just think that the Chargers might punk us, dude,
you know what I mean like they might just punk
us and then and then then what do we do.
I just think this offense is it's just like it
was last year in the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (02:04:35):
We had a bunch of receivers.
Speaker 10 (02:04:36):
Hurt, you know, tang Dell was hurt, like all of
our you know, all of our good guys, our offensive
weapons were hurt.
Speaker 7 (02:04:42):
And uh, I just think it's going to be a repeat.
Speaker 10 (02:04:44):
Man.
Speaker 7 (02:04:44):
So you know, season is not over yet. I guess
we got a shot.
Speaker 10 (02:04:47):
But hopefully these guys you know, toughing up and uh
want to play and uh, I don't know, man, We'll see,
but I'm I will say the Ravens Steelers game, that's
gonna be because the Steelers Ravens, they always play tough.
Speaker 7 (02:05:01):
You know, that's gonna be an amazing game.
Speaker 10 (02:05:03):
And I was laughing to myself that of course the
text them to get the Saturday early game because they're
kind of a trash team.
Speaker 7 (02:05:10):
But anyways, later.
Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
Guys, I remember this now. The one thing though, that
the Bengals have a hard it's the Bengals have a
hard time against the Ravens Riders the other way, right,
and that the Steelers don't The Ravens own the Steelers
like nine, and I mean, haven't they owned them? Or
is it the other way around?
Speaker 5 (02:05:27):
I think it's I think it's the Ravens on the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (02:05:29):
Right and then the then the the Ravens have owned
the Steelers and the Bengals have given the Ravens trouble
or the Bengals troubles.
Speaker 2 (02:05:38):
Right there you go.
Speaker 6 (02:05:39):
So and I can't remember what the red the last
ten times they've played. I'm curious about the braven Ravens
Steelers the last that that defense can create problems, meaning
Pittsburgh for and the Baltimore's offense is playing is a
much higher level than this than the Steelers are offensively
right now. And you know, they can keep they can
(02:06:02):
hold you down and then they can kill the clock.
And then with Lamar in the playouction and they had
some big plays out of play action, he bought time
as he's done all year long.
Speaker 2 (02:06:09):
He's had a phenomenal season.
Speaker 5 (02:06:11):
Yeah, so it's uh, it's so, yeah, the Ravens give
the Bengals fits, Pittsburgh gives Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (02:06:16):
That's that's what right.
Speaker 5 (02:06:18):
Yeah, So Baltimore Ravens have a two to eight record
in their last ten games. Against the Steelers, all right,
and they dominate the Bengals. Yeah, and that's that's why.
So that's the that's the when when he brought it up,
I think it was Michael. That's the saving even though
they're going on the road. The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to
game plan Baltimore better than anybody in the league, and
you just can't figure it Out's like, we haven't been
(02:06:38):
able to fay, Well, why does it The kan City
Chief struggle against Cincinnati in a you know, a handful
of times. So this is a game that if you're Baltimore,
you got to dial in because the past history in
the last ten games says the Pittsburgh Steelers play you
as well as anybody in the NFL. But if your
offense doesn't improve, it won't matter. They're gonna have to
get some stops on defense, but they're going to have
(02:07:01):
to match a score because Baltimore is going to score.
My question is how much how many points can Russ
Wilson and Pittsburgh put on the board. This game is
more interesting than you think because of the history of
this matchup the last ten games. Let's talk to Barry
before we get to break Barry, Good morning.
Speaker 18 (02:07:15):
Good morning, gentlemen. You may have already covered this attune
in late but how does the Black Monday coaching Carol say, look,
Normally coaches get fired after that.
Speaker 6 (02:07:23):
Well, a bunch of a bunch of assistant coaches and
defensive coordinator on Cincinnati Doug Peterson head coach. And in Jacksonville,
we obviously know the Jets are going to get their
new head coach, Brian Dable, and the Giants is staying.
I would imagine Chicago is going to make a move
to a head coach. Here the Patriots fired. That happened,
(02:07:47):
so it's moving pretty rapidly and it probably won't be
the last one fired today.
Speaker 18 (02:07:53):
At least quick About the rules, then, is the rough
in the pants an intentional crime or the players seeming
they were trying to stop themselves but his momentum carried
him into the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (02:08:08):
They'll call rub and intent matters when it comes to it,
But it doesn't matter if you run into a guy
and you are trying to slow down and you hit him,
and whether it's you know, if it's three steps like,
they're going to call it even if it wasn't intentional,
And depending on how fierce the hit is. It's really
hard to judge because I see it called so many
different ways. Just whatever it is, they're going to always
(02:08:28):
air on the side of protecting the quarterback. And yeah,
guys are trying to pull up on a regular basis
because they know what's happening, and even then trying to
pull up. But if you're late to the party, they're still.
Speaker 2 (02:08:39):
Going to call it. I would imagine most of them do.
They're protecting the quarterbacks overboard.
Speaker 18 (02:08:44):
That's quest. And then is it a better chance for
the sun to start going to the earth to start
going backward than for the Troy line to win the
Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (02:08:52):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:08:53):
Can you imagine? And you know what they're they're sure
as hell capable of it. They've played great football and
I don't think they've ever had in their French history
home field advantage throughout the playoffs, and they have it now,
so it'll be great. Appreciate the call, Berry, Thank you
very much. You know one thing I had to I
think it was the Texans game, the personal foul on
the low hit on the receiver.
Speaker 6 (02:09:13):
You remember one I'm talking about. Who was the receiver?
Was it John MITCHI? Yeah, it was Mechi. He went
down and the defender was going down to make a
low like a thigh hit. Yeah, and because Mechi ducked
and hit him, and then they went helmet to helmet
on accident. But he if you saw or it was,
it was almost like shoulder pad to helmet. But he
(02:09:33):
tried to turn his body and show shoulder pad to
the lower body. But because Mechi dipped his body and
went down low, he met him down there, and they
still called a personal foul. See that's not that shouldn't
be the intent of the rule. Not that it mattered
in the big scheme of the game, but I can
tell you this that should not have been called.
Speaker 5 (02:09:48):
Geene Sarator even on the broadcast, said the same. He
was like, I understand why they're doing it. He was like,
but I don't like this. This is what I don't like
that one.
Speaker 6 (02:09:56):
You got to look back and say, let's go check
this out. That guy dipped down because he first a
little higher the receiver, not on purpose, but initiated that
low contact.
Speaker 2 (02:10:05):
So what is he supposed to do? You can't just
tap out, you can't. I mean he tried to you.
So you try to turn his body and he gave
him shoulder, not head. That didn't sound right. Yeah, you
give him his head, especially especially today with what you've
been reading about things that are having a fox.
Speaker 6 (02:10:24):
Yes, gave him shoulder in the head. If I said
head and shoulders, you'd say, okay.
Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Great, let's play on. Let's play on a commercial. But
I decided to start with shoulders and in with head.
Speaker 5 (02:10:35):
So everybody's like.
Speaker 2 (02:10:39):
He gave him his head.
Speaker 6 (02:10:40):
Okay, on a platter anyway, But he tried not to initiate.
That should not have been called. Don't you agree the
letter of law? But I also understand the the let's
let's have let's have some feel intent right, There's no
question a matter of fact, he intended to go down
and not even come close to him with the shoulder,
and the receiver will not on purpose initiated the hit,
(02:11:03):
and so he gets penalized fifteen marks.
Speaker 2 (02:11:05):
I thought it was weak, but not that it turned out.
Speaker 6 (02:11:07):
But if we have the game plays like that in
a playoff game, that changed the game around on a
one possession game, not good.
Speaker 5 (02:11:14):
Plus it goes back into what you and I always say,
review everything, Review everything.
Speaker 6 (02:11:22):
Now guys are up there just buzzing down and say,
hey man, that's not a you shouldn't be called here's why.
Let the intent was not there, there was, matter of fact,
the dB did everything possible, yeah, to stay away from
so but it just makes no sense, especially it's going
to come back and hunted, which it already has in
one score or playoff game, single admitigation, single elimination games.
Speaker 2 (02:11:41):
Then you know, you get an apology. Yeah, well, an apology. Yeah,
that's how we It's craziness, man, yeah, that's how we
do in the NFL these days.
Speaker 5 (02:11:49):
Just review everything, man, you got expedited review. It takes
them five seconds.
Speaker 6 (02:11:53):
In between the next play, unless there's a two minute
drill and they're playing tempo. You got time to buzz
it down, right. And it's not like you're gonna do
it forty seven times a game. There's gonna be games
where like two or three times a game it's like
what was that?
Speaker 5 (02:12:06):
Oh, and there's gonna be a play like that. It's
gonna happen in the playoffs. Going to turn a game around,
it is, it's gonna change the game. Didn't the personal
foul with the Texas game? Didn't that turn the game around?
It sure did.
Speaker 2 (02:12:16):
The helmet the helm with that. They didn't call it.
Speaker 6 (02:12:17):
They didn't call they go down kick a football games
over over, and now Texas gonna got a chance to
go win the national title. And that call, I know
it's never one call in a game. That call was significant,
big time in save in Texas's as.
Speaker 5 (02:12:30):
Let's get to break early favorites as the playoffs are
a couple of days away from kicking off. Who the
early favorites to win the Super Bowl? As the playoff
field has been set, that's next.
Speaker 15 (02:12:43):
Let's go call.
Speaker 4 (02:12:44):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show by Bill Withers.
Speaker 2 (02:12:50):
Okay, who pulls more? Billy Withers or Billy Preston?
Speaker 5 (02:12:54):
Alight, Bill Withers, let me get the tail of the tape?
Speaker 6 (02:12:58):
Or who Billy depressed? You just will it go around
in circle? That was Bill Preston right there, m M,
who pulls more? It looks they look damn near identical
Billy Preston.
Speaker 2 (02:13:10):
That's got it triple right on the edge.
Speaker 5 (02:13:20):
These are two basic white guys. Yeah, well both African American.
They both they are you saying that.
Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
A lot of white guys like in Cleveland, Ohio, look alike?
Speaker 6 (02:13:28):
Yeah? Iowa, Oh you'll find them the airport.
Speaker 2 (02:13:33):
There's Bill. There's four thousand Billy Billy white guys here right.
Speaker 5 (02:13:38):
Yeah, there's the Yeah, they're all over the place.
Speaker 6 (02:13:40):
But the basic white dudes. Yes, So Bill Withers or
Billy Preston, who pulls more? Man, Let's see, most people
out there don't really know what they look like, so
they're not so this can be a quick fix if
you want.
Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
I'm gonna go Withers. Mmmm.
Speaker 6 (02:13:57):
Maybe a little more recognizable when it comes to cuts.
But Billy Preston had a good run back in what seven.
Speaker 5 (02:14:04):
Year I'd probably say Bill Withers, Billy Withers, Yeah, yeah,
feeling good about him? Yeah, hold him, hold it up,
let me check out. What's what you're looking at right now?
So you got but I mean you just got to.
We pulled up Bill Preston. Yeah, here's here's Billy Preston.
Speaker 6 (02:14:19):
Yeah, I know what he looks like. Yeah, you got
Billy's had some Bill Withers good hair.
Speaker 2 (02:14:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:14:25):
Oh yeah, I'm gonna say Withers pulls more. They walk
into a bar, yeah, I would especially at the maybe
the fifty and older, sixty and older crowd. Yeah, I
mean he may pull when they hear when he plays
his music. I mean, come on now, Bill Withers was
six to two, Yeah, strapping lad.
Speaker 5 (02:14:41):
Let's see Billy Preston. Not that's the wrong Billy Preston.
There's one Billy Preston that was six ten and that
ain't him. No, but I'm gonna go with Withers on
the hoop pulls more. Figured i'd throw that in there.
Billy Preston. You know where he's from, probably Texas, He's
from Houston.
Speaker 2 (02:14:58):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (02:15:00):
Yeah, maybe some old school folks know the run running
to Billy Preston along the way.
Speaker 5 (02:15:04):
Oh, Billy Preston six ' four.
Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
Whoa strapping lad. A couple of strapping lads. Yeah, yeah,
the Tale of Tale. I'm gonna go Withers, I'm gonna go.
You might pull a little more. I think his music
plays a little more.
Speaker 5 (02:15:19):
Yeah, I think Bill Withers but a good cut, right.
Speaker 2 (02:15:22):
Yeah, I got a song we ain't got no the.
Speaker 5 (02:15:24):
First time I've heard it. So let's heard that cut.
Oh man, that hurts.
Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
May have to add that to the playlist. It's no shock,
but it hurts. Well.
Speaker 5 (02:15:31):
My music band with is way better than my movie
band with an know that. Excuse me, so put some
respect on it.
Speaker 2 (02:15:37):
We'll put it on your name. Put some respect. You
need to put some respect on Billy Preston though. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm not doubting, doubting or anything. Are you doubting? Thomas?
Just making sure you're not a negative Nelly either. No,
absolutely not.
Speaker 9 (02:15:52):
No.
Speaker 5 (02:15:53):
I say negative Nancy, but.
Speaker 2 (02:15:55):
A lot of people do. I don't know why.
Speaker 5 (02:15:56):
I like Nelly better like Nelly, like Nelly or like Nelly.
Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
It just kind of rolls off my tongue a little better.
Speaker 5 (02:16:02):
Than negative Nelly. Negative Nancy.
Speaker 16 (02:16:06):
Hey, guys, I got our guy feel called in Huh.
He said that Bill Pulls more he married some woman
named Denise nicchol Nicholas, something like that.
Speaker 6 (02:16:16):
Bill Withers. Yeah, I'm going leaning towards Withers as well.
You know, married well, Billy Preston.
Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
Probably. You know, I had had a.
Speaker 5 (02:16:26):
Few Denise Nicholas, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:16:28):
Bill, Bill Preston probably had a couple of good runs
in him. You know what I'm saying, zoidified.
Speaker 2 (02:16:33):
Man, Yeah, probably, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, running
to the club back in the seventies, maybe some some
some really sweet felt pants.
Speaker 6 (02:16:41):
Oh yeah, that was in the seventies. There was some
high with some clogs, you know, a big old yeah. Yeah, man,
you're in that's I imagine BP pulled some and so
did b dub Okay, Bill Withers, Bill Preston.
Speaker 2 (02:16:55):
Yeah. I think I'm gonna go with Bill Withers.
Speaker 7 (02:16:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:16:57):
I said the same thing. There you go, there you go.
What's wrong with you? Man?
Speaker 5 (02:17:03):
I just saw our guy Big Mike listens to us
on the in the mornings, said hey, yo big pause.
Speaker 2 (02:17:08):
Yeah, oh what I said, shoulder, Yeah, that wasn't even playing, man,
I got I'll tell you fight. That's right. Uh, Bright,
it's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (02:17:19):
It's gonna hit a little different this Astro season without
miss Carroll.
Speaker 2 (02:17:23):
It is it is. It sure is because.
Speaker 5 (02:17:26):
When the sky is falling and the Astros lose eight
in a row or you know.
Speaker 6 (02:17:31):
Caught it, she would catch this guy and try to
prevent as from letting fall. I'm sure we'll have a
lot of conversations and bring her up often come baseball season.
Speaker 5 (02:17:40):
Bright, mister, Oh, here we go. Ian Rappaport with some
breaking news.
Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
Were we hitting the sounder next?
Speaker 5 (02:17:48):
No, we'll talk about it next. It has to do
with the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (02:17:51):
Whoa talk about it? Next four seven.
Speaker 5 (02:17:54):
Eighty, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued National NFL insider.
Speaker 6 (02:18:03):
I'm gonna I'm gonna suggest I haven't seen it that
it has something to do with an assistant as opposed
to the head coach h Mdida.
Speaker 5 (02:18:10):
Does the Jets have put in request to speak with
Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick his first request of the
cycle after being a hot candidate last year.
Speaker 2 (02:18:22):
Did they not watch the Texans offense this year?
Speaker 6 (02:18:25):
Well, it's once you get that interview that others come
say what am I missing? So maybe I mean I
would just let Bobby know that. Well, Rogers may or
may not play another year. You better think about is
how quickly that contrue? You saw with average quarterback Aaron
did not play great this year. He played good yesterday
(02:18:46):
and you know the Jets played a good game. But
that But if it's offered and nobody else offers it,
he will take the job. You know this That goes
to what we were saying about, Well, why do people
do this? Here's why. If Jacksonville offered slow at the job,
and it was the only offer he got, He's going
to take it. I'm assuming because it would be his
first head coaching job. Everybody wants that opportunity to lead,
(02:19:08):
and you never know how many times it'll come down
that come come your way. I can tell you this,
if they offer him the gig and he takes it,
that will have meant they held him in the highest
regard because they looked at the first year, in the
second year and they had more struggles this year, but
they would have dived deep and then you know, ask
people what kind of leader he is, which is going
to matter and all that. It will have meant that
(02:19:29):
they really wanted him because this wasn't their best year offensively.
So that'd tell you something about the Jets interest or
it'll tell you that the Jets are just to continue
to be in over their head and he's not ready
for it.
Speaker 2 (02:19:40):
But we don't know that yet.
Speaker 6 (02:19:41):
I would think that in the Ben Johnson situ, he
stayed one more year to get another year right to
and now Ben Johnson calls his shots, he's going to
have a He and Brabel are going to be the
top one for a first time head coaching job, the
other for a second. He's they're going to be ready
to rollo are those are going to be your two
prime guys? I would imagine. But Ben Johnson in that
opportunity last year to decide come back, and it was a
(02:20:02):
wise move. So will Will Bobby Slowkeff offered, say no,
give me c J. Stroud in this offense fully healthy
one more year, or go take the coaching job because
you never know when it's going to be offered to
you again.
Speaker 5 (02:20:12):
Is there a world where an offensive coordinator like a
Ben Johnson Will just has in his mind he just
wants to be an offensive coordinator for the rest of
his career.
Speaker 6 (02:20:21):
No, there comes a point in time I've been with
some officer like Tom Moore. I've told you about Tom Moore,
coach Bradshaw, he coached US in Minnesota, he coached Manning,
he coached Brady Dude. Ready, if there's a Hall of
Fame for assistant coaches, Tom Moore belongs in it. But Tom,
other than I think interim for a second in University
(02:20:42):
of Minnesota, has never got He's never pined for it.
Speaker 3 (02:20:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:20:45):
I'm sure early in iscir Tom's get in his eighties.
Speaker 6 (02:20:47):
Now, I'm sure if at some point and as sharp
as it gets did when he was fifty, somebody offered
him head coach job. He'd taken it, but it got
to the point that you even knew in Minnesota that
Tom's just the perfect lifetime assistant and was is okay
being it. He Tom loves the relationship with the quarterback
being in the room and the quarterbacks and the coordinator.
(02:21:08):
He doesn't like all the shake hands and kiss baby stuff.
He's always respectful. Tom's if you want to see, if
you see football coach, some coffee, a little cigarette, that's Tom.
You look at him and say, that's what a football
coach looks like. Great, so, yes, some, but at Ben
Johnson's age, oh no, Now, some may be destined that
they're not good enough to be a head coach, and
they get back to it and realize that that's their
(02:21:30):
job and that they get passed up time and time again.
In this you spend forty years being a coordinator. Okay,
that's fine, you can carve out a phenomenal career. But
in Ben Johnson's case, or a young guy like that,
no matter of fact, I'd question if you decide to
keep turning down head coaching jobs that if you were
too afraid to be the guy with all the responsibility.
So no, and when you're at his age at sixty five, maybe,
(02:21:51):
but most guys if offered and then someone like Tom
got pigeons certain coordinators. He's just so good at his
position coach or a coordinator. I don't want to waste
him as a head coach, right. I know that sounds crazy,
but the relate it's just too good. It just fits perfectly.
So in Ben Johnson's case, no, I'll tell you what.
We got that a little bit in college. Remember how
many times Brett Venables will get an interview to Clemson
(02:22:12):
defensive cord and was making a couple million bucks a
year as a coordinator, and you're like, we're making all
that money, dabble gets wear on a great team.
Speaker 2 (02:22:18):
What do I want?
Speaker 6 (02:22:19):
Because everybody wants that I'm running the show here, meaning
I'm a leader. Yeah, it kind of validates all the
hard work you put in from the time you decided
to be a coach. So it's rare, but there are
a lot of guys that are just lifetime assistants. But
there's very few guys that when they get into coaching
say all I want to do is just be an assistant.
Everybody gets in wanting to run the show Bobby Slowick.
(02:22:40):
Last year, six teams had interest in him. During that
hired cycle. Three of them interviewed him twice.
Speaker 2 (02:22:47):
Just a little note and when they bring you back
a second time, there's an interest there there they're diving into.
Speaker 6 (02:22:52):
Okay, we like this guy. Let's go a little, a
little deeper dive to find out where the depth of
this is.
Speaker 2 (02:22:57):
And is it premature? Is it time?
Speaker 5 (02:22:59):
You remember when Eric b Enemy's name was just being
tossed around left and right, next, next head coach, hottest
head coaching candidate. Didn't he just get fired from.
Speaker 2 (02:23:09):
The ULF coordinator? Yeah, mm hmmm, it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (02:23:14):
Just I just started to think about, you know, the
hiring cycles we've had over the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (02:23:18):
He was at the top. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:23:19):
And if you wonder why to keep didn't get you
didn't get jobs obviously along the way, somewhere along the line,
whether personality conflicts something, just the way he interviewed was
not conducive for whatever reason, we like he be, but
it's it was constant when he was having the greatest
amount of success. Once again, as we said, all along,
as good as Eric being to me is and I
think he's a really good coach. He's he's fiery, and
(02:23:41):
he challenges players. It's the way he played as a
player as well. The problem is, you know, you got
to get the right players who can react to that.
That's number one. But when people were saying, well, Eric's
responsible for this offense in Kansas City, as you know,
the guy who's responsible for that offense is the guy
who has a place the size of a stadium.
Speaker 2 (02:24:01):
And Andy Reid and as good as we have in
the NFL right now.
Speaker 6 (02:24:04):
Yeah, and he because whether it's Matt Naggie or him
or he's and Andy's good at getting his coach's opportunities.
And he and Eric beinge me were great together. But
they're fifteen, they're fifteen to two. They still exist with
or without and it's because of Andy Reid.
Speaker 5 (02:24:17):
Here's some fun. Here's some more breaking news coming out
of the NFL. Brown's GM Andrew Berry announced that QB
Deshaun Watson. Watson suffered a set back in his achilles recovery.
The team was informed of this information yesterday and the
impact on his twenty twenty five season remains uncertain. Jesus man, geez,
(02:24:38):
I mean you already got that awful contract, all that
guaranteed money. They're apparently going to restructure it to help
out with the salary cap hit. And now you might
not even have him next year.
Speaker 6 (02:24:49):
And I don't think you're ever going to see Watson
play the football that you thought you were and that
he played here. Yeah, that's he's carrying a lot of
baggage matter.
Speaker 2 (02:24:59):
Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 6 (02:25:00):
And not just the but not just the physical injuries,
but all the baggage that every move he makes.
Speaker 2 (02:25:05):
Yep, it's a.
Speaker 6 (02:25:07):
And it's hard to be a leader when people are
clowning you, yeah, all the time. And that's what they're doing, right,
clown in his contract and about what you know, they
just are and he's become just a guy in the league.
And thirty million dollar that will go down. It's one
of the five worst, and maybe as bad as any
contract we've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (02:25:27):
This keeps up. I think it might go down as
the worst. Yeah, right now, it's the leader in the clubhouse,
crazy man.
Speaker 5 (02:25:34):
Yeah, suffered a setback and uh, uncertain about twenty twenty five.
So what are the Browns gonna do?
Speaker 2 (02:25:41):
Don't have a top.
Speaker 6 (02:25:42):
I think the Browns are gonna do the top I
think there are top top three or four. They're they're
if they were smart, they at some point in time,
if this keeps up, you're going to sign a quarterback.
You're going to draft a quarterback, and you're at some point,
don't you gotta cut him. You can't trade it for that,
but you have to cut him and work out even
an injury settlement.
Speaker 5 (02:26:02):
Didn't they didn't The Browns just fire their offensive coordinator.
Speaker 6 (02:26:07):
Uh, Kenny Dorsey. I'm pretty sure they fired if they
if they fired Ken Dorsey overnight and.
Speaker 5 (02:26:12):
Yeah, this was yesterday, they fired their offensive coordinator, Ken
Dorsey and their old line coach.
Speaker 6 (02:26:16):
Yeah, they've fired a lot of coordinators over the recent years. Yeah,
Alex Fanne know Van Pelt and him, and I mean
there's been a lot of guys that have been sat
packing by the Cleveland Browns. At some point, you're gonna
get to if this keeps up, you're gonna have to
cut him, pay him his two hundred thirty million and
just suck it up.
Speaker 2 (02:26:31):
That sucks, man.
Speaker 6 (02:26:33):
If if this is the way it's going to continue
to go, Yeah, and what if they're sitting there and
they love SCHD door Sanders, What do you do?
Speaker 2 (02:26:41):
You have to draft him? Right? All right? Do you? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:26:44):
If you love him, you think you have to.
Speaker 2 (02:26:45):
I think the Tennessee Titans are going to move on
from Levis in a hurry. I don't think.
Speaker 6 (02:26:49):
I think if they, if they love the quarterback, I
think that they'll draft Shoulder Sanders Reward right off the bat,
or maybe somebody else. Of whoever they love is the quarterback.
I whether you would or I wouldn't, they may need
to just for fan base and the rest of it.
Speaker 2 (02:27:03):
What happens if they draft him in Tennessee, Levis is
he's not going to get a shot. There's your competition,
and then he's got a shot, right, That's what I'm saying.
So who knows?
Speaker 6 (02:27:13):
And the Deshaun Watson thing's been a disaster for a
couple of years. Yeah, better them than the thirty million
dollar experiment. Yeah, yeah, and guaranteed one. Yeah, it's guaranteed, fully,
fully guaranteed.
Speaker 5 (02:27:26):
Let's get into the final segment on a Monday edition
of The Sewan Salisbury Show. Let's talk about the updated
Super Bowl odds for the playoff teams.
Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
That's next on Sports Talk seven to eighty.
Speaker 4 (02:27:38):
Let the celebration start war. Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk
seven ninety You're not, I am not at all.
Speaker 2 (02:27:47):
I actually kind of am I'm not. I actually I'm
ready to grind man way man. Oh, I'm not.
Speaker 6 (02:27:51):
I'm ready for base I'm not ready for the textan season.
And I'm looking for them to have a little bit
of an out of body offensive experience this week and
get after the Chargers and see if we can't protect
your home base, and then take your chances with whatever
presents yourself next and maybe hope that the Steelers take
care of Baltimore and start knocking off other teams. The
underdogs start winning along the way, but defensively they're stout.
(02:28:15):
The Texans will knock around, knock you around, and fly around.
I just got to see the point of attack the
run game and the play action game. And like Stroud,
who's dangerous, Herbert's. The truth is Herbert's a better runner
because in the open fields, Stroud's are real natural. He's
very good at extending plays and throwing on the run.
Herbert can beat you with his feet more than people know.
Speaker 5 (02:28:37):
Yeah, as far as baseball season is concerned, I wouldn't
mind if football season lasted until March.
Speaker 6 (02:28:42):
Really, yeah, you always got the spring league dog. I'm
good on that one. Baseball, I'm really not ready for it.
I'm not, but it'll be here soon. I'm starting to
feel I'm feeling it because I'm now my hockey. Like
I don't know, if you watch the winner Cli I did,
the Blackhawks and the Blues. It was awesome. I'm getting,
(02:29:04):
you know, or the Blues at the Blackhawks in Wrigley Field.
So I've it's hockey and college hoops to my college
hoops over the weekend was flowing. My meatic skills too.
On college hoops. I don't want to brag, but I'm
going to and so with that, But I still i'd
like to see we I think, I know we say
this a lot of the charge of the Texans played
(02:29:27):
their best game yet.
Speaker 2 (02:29:28):
This year they have not.
Speaker 6 (02:29:29):
Now at seventeen games in you really got to think why. Yeah, well,
it can't just be injuries, because you know what, the
Detroit Lions are banged up.
Speaker 5 (02:29:37):
It's play calling and it's lack of execution.
Speaker 6 (02:29:39):
That they're the lack the discipline and execution has been
a problem for you this year.
Speaker 5 (02:29:44):
Yeah, Jarmie Tunzel a couple of fall starts over the weekend.
Who's counting, Yeah, most penalized players in the freaking league.
Speaker 6 (02:29:50):
But I'm hoping that they, like, there's a different DNA
in January.
Speaker 2 (02:29:56):
Let's say, let's.
Speaker 5 (02:29:57):
See, Hey, everybody's own Oh yep, one one one band,
one sound baby.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
Fourteen teams get to keep on playing the other half
of the league's home wondering if what's what's going on
when they're when of course they're playing. I wonder if
Joy Taylor's gonna be on TV today. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:30:13):
No, yeah, yeah, Hey.
Speaker 2 (02:30:21):
I'm not the moral code for them.
Speaker 5 (02:30:22):
No, you're not, no, not, None of us are last
call the show here on Monday, John, what's happening?
Speaker 2 (02:30:31):
The last call of the day. No last call.
Speaker 5 (02:30:34):
The last last last call the show?
Speaker 2 (02:30:37):
Yeah, okay, whatever. You could take a classic song and
just butcher get down on it. Uh, get down on.
Speaker 7 (02:30:47):
It, big goober. Hey real quick.
Speaker 2 (02:30:52):
Hope y'all had a great holiday. Anyway? Who the hell
is Joy Taylor? Did y'all keep yapping about? Uh?
Speaker 5 (02:30:59):
John, Just go her and you will see all you
need to know. Joy Taylor. She was a radio host.
She was I'll make it real quick. She was a
radio host in Miami. Her brother is Jason Taylor, remember
the badass that played for the Dolphins. So okay, So
Joy was a radio host. She was also a bartender.
Out of nowhere. She made this rise in sports TV
(02:31:19):
and she's now has her own show on FS one.
Uh there's her former Her former hairdresser came out in
assuing her an Skip Bayless for a bunch of different things.
And in this lawsuit, Joy Taylor is accused of sleeping
with one of the Fox executives and Emmanuel Acho, who
also is a host of a show on FS one.
Speaker 2 (02:31:39):
Yeah, there you go, I gotcha. Okay, check her out.
Speaker 15 (02:31:42):
Check it out now, al I know she she likes
to get her knees dirty, allegedly.
Speaker 2 (02:31:49):
Anyway, now we got you do.
Speaker 5 (02:31:56):
I got like thirty seconds off because we got to
get to the top of the ear. So what you
got in these bone.
Speaker 7 (02:32:01):
Sean?
Speaker 15 (02:32:02):
Does any does the agents get any type of that
bonus that the players received?
Speaker 6 (02:32:08):
Usually bonuses or the player keeps all the bonus incentives
and incentives worked in uh now unless that's changed over
the years. But when my when they did mine, the
incentives were all mine. That the agent that was just
part of the negotiation, that the agent got a cut
of the base and the bonus, but not the not
the incentives. I don't know. Maybe that's the each individual
(02:32:29):
if you do it. But you know, while they're given incentives,
I don't think that the agent should take one dime
from somebody reaching their incentives during the season.
Speaker 2 (02:32:38):
So hopefully not they didn't with mine. All right, you'll
be cool, thanks, buddy, stay easy because.
Speaker 5 (02:32:48):
Oh, Johnny, you say, did you say Geno Smith got
all six million dollars of his players and incentives six million?
Speaker 7 (02:32:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:32:56):
I ready he reached six million in incentives. Good for him.
Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
Cool one was Mike Evans. Good for him? Yeah, that
was awesome to see.
Speaker 5 (02:33:03):
Eleven straight seasons of over one thousand yards reception receiving
for Mike Evans just kind of does it every single season. Hey,
the odds updated odds for Super Bowl winners. The Lions
lead the way plus to eighty, then the Chiefs at
plus three fifty, Ravens and Bills at plus six hundred,
(02:33:25):
Eagles plus seven hundred, and then he got the Vikings
at plus sixteen hundred packers plus eighteen hundred bucks plus
three Grand Chargers plus thirty five hundred Rams plus thirty
five hundred Commanders also at plus thirty five hundred, Broncos
and Texans plus eight thousand, and then the Steelers plus
ten thousand.
Speaker 2 (02:33:43):
So damn the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (02:33:46):
They consider the lowest odds, yep, the least amount of
opportunity to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:33:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (02:33:55):
Offensively, there's no question that's the case. Yeah, but Mike
Tomlin's pretty good coach. So, but they're running into the
wrong I mean, even though they're what two and eight
you said the last ten games against them, they're running
into a team that's as HoTT as could be. I
think that that loss, that that's the way that Pittsburgh's
dominated Baltimore is gonna come to a close in this game.
Who they have is number one Detroiter Cancons Detroit.
Speaker 2 (02:34:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:34:16):
I thought the uh the finalists for the Super Bowl
the best odds to play each other, the Ravens and
the Lions plus eight hundred for them those two to meet.
Speaker 2 (02:34:26):
I have no argument with that right now. Check that out, man.
They look like the two best teams in each conference
the way they're playing today.
Speaker 5 (02:34:35):
Man, I figured the Chiefs would have some pretty good
odds on that they will. I think people still questioning
the offense and oh I take that back. Sorry Chiefs
Lions number one, but not by much. And then sorry
Chiefs Lions. Then the re's fair. It's in the Mahomes
and Andy Reid. Fact, they just know how to win
in January and February, no doubt they Sure, dude, We're
going to dig into so much coverage this week of
(02:34:56):
the Texans and Chargers, you're not gonna want to miss anything.
