Saulsbury Salisbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this. Shawn Salisbury, NFL
quarterback Berry alongside friend shown Salisbury,Ryan La Lima, go Lobos to the
SHANKI Shop. I'm come away andpig. This is the Shawn Salisbury Show.
(00:26):
Good morning, Houston. Welcome into the Shawn Salisbury Show. Here
on Sports Talk seven ninety Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lima, Triple Emmanuel Elmore here
with you. The Texans fall tothe Jags, the Eagles outlast the Bills
in overtime. The Cowboys dominate onThanksgiving? Who got tons of college football
to get into as well? Universityof Houston football firing daner Holgerson and and
(00:48):
am getting their new head coach.Apparently lot to cover today. I hope
everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday.Glad to be back with you, fellas.
Good morning Shawn and tripley morning guys. Uh was uh excuse me?
What was uh? What's happening?Just like I said, was uh?
Especially with that beanie on this one, A little chili out about forty two
degrees when I got there. Hooeyat a beanie. I'm ready to roll.
(01:11):
Let's go, ready to roll. What's happening, man? What's not
happening? A lot going on,a lot to cover, a lot to
get into I uh, you lookperplexed. Well, a fan base is
apparently elected a quarterback, I meana head coach in one city, which
tells me. I mean, well, I love fan bases, but when
(01:32):
you a fan base elects your headcoach. Yeah, well, even though
the guy they are going to hireis really good. Yeah, and Mike
oco here. If it was mychoice, I would get out of the
RPO. Uh. Spread, Imean everybody's in the spread. The that
(01:53):
group of twenty five guys, itfeels like that are the same. They're
run open offenses, spread them out, play fast, all that, all
that can be implemented. Don't misunderstandme what I'm trying to say. But
if you hire from the same tree, you're gonna get the same result.
I'm just telling you you are. You're gonna get minimal defense, big offense.
(02:22):
Physicality, won't be very good. You'll be you'll be a finesse team
through and through yep, and you'llwin seven eight games for the most part.
Now you make you and you're you'rein a bigger conference. I well,
Like I said, there's a lotof really good coaches, but we
get caught up into this. It'sgot to be a thirty something or a
(02:45):
forty year old. It's got tobe a somebody on the new It's got
to be an automatic offensive spread guywho runs the you know stuff that Leach
and Dana and Tom you know someoneand you know what I'm talking about.
Everybody runs. It doesn't have tobe like that if it was me,
(03:07):
and I'm right now, and thisis no disrespect to a program. I
love Chris Pezlan. I think weknew this was coming. Dana had some
good moments, but the inconsistency isnot the level you want moving to the
next one. Now, tell youwhat he did do. He got this
team rolling to the point where theywere highly successful enough to get into the
Big twelve, which was, bythe way, a nice big bonus for
(03:28):
Dana too. Yeah, no question, but he did some good things,
but the standard of consistency just wasn'tthere. I'm not sure. And I'm
gonna say this as loud as Ipossibly can. I'm talking about football right
now. University Houston's not better thanUTSA or two lane. I wouldn't if
I'm Willie Fritz or trailer, JeffTraylor trailer. Yeah, you got to
(03:52):
think that money will come into play. It's in a Big twelve power conference,
which I get, but as afootball program right now, as a
program that what Chris Peesman's doing andnot you know how we feel about uh
love them. I'm talking about themfrom the football aspect. I take two
lane and UTSA six ways to Sundayand twice and it's not an upgrade right
(04:15):
now. No, it's now theconference is the money probably behind it.
It's going to be the facilities allthat I get, and I like that,
but I need somebody who comes inhere. If I'm a uh and
we'll get the A and M andwe got to get to the Texans.
We got a lot. But youdon't just have to hire somebody who's familiar
with the program. Matter of fact, I think quite the opposite, to
be honest with you. Find mesomebody who comes in here and does not
(04:39):
care about the past. The Universityof Houston does not care about it.
I need physical defense with some excitingoffense. But if you're coming in here
with the Big twelve, it's goingto fit in and hey, seven eight
wins because we spread it out ourquarterback through for five thousand yards. All
that doesn't interest me, unless,of course, they can go win it
all. But I got news foryou. They can. I'm just you.
(05:02):
Find me one that preaches the physicalitythat you want on a regular basis
in that system. Whoever it's goingto be, You give me trailer,
you'll win, guys, phenomenal job. Find me somebody who's built something that
wasn't supposed to be built right andcome here and build that. Find me
that guy. Know you talk aboutthese coaching trees. We discussed this before.
You talk about the coaching trees andthe carousel and things like that.
(05:24):
Overrated. Isn't that what A andM's doing? Yeah, well listen to
me. Let me tell you.Ilko was the defensive courting or two years
ago. He's familiar with the program. Yeah, and he's in the player.
He's good. Don't get right exactly. I don't like whether you like
Stoops or not. I could careless about Mark. Stoops is very abrasive,
in your face, brash kind.Well, the truth is he's got
some rabbit ears like Jimbo Fisher did. But he's a hell of a football
(05:47):
coach. Look what I mean. They went out there and put it on.
They gave Louisville all they they wantedand physically, and the one thing
about him is he likes physical defensivefootball. Point is, I love exciting
on offense. But there's no templatethat says you got to hire from Andy
Reid's tree that didn't work real goodfor Matt and Aggy. There's no template
(06:08):
that says you got to hire fromthe Sean McVay, Matt Lafleur, that
Cliff Kingsbury, Lincoln Riley Tree.As much as I like him, the
fact of the matter is it doesn'talways have to be the Zach Taylors and
Kevin O'Connell's. Those guys are greatdoing their thing. But my point is,
(06:29):
it's okay to go get a guylike Willie Fritz. It's okay to
go get a guy like Jeff Trailer. It's okay to go get a guy
like Mike Elkoho's on the defensive side, and I'll hire good. I don't
know who the answer is for theseprograms, but like a University Houston,
if you want, if you're gonnago get one of these guys, there's
got to be a lot of moneyand commit it to a program. Because
(06:49):
what used to be a bridge programused to come to University Houston to get
to a bigger program. Now there'sa Big twelve, there a Power five.
This is the hell of a program. Dana Holsen Holger say this was
like his dream gig. So whoeveryou hire, do the interview process.
It doesn't need to be somebody.Hey, he's got University of Houston ties
in the tree. Okay, wellthat tree's worked out real well for Bill
(07:12):
Belichick. There's one dude and hestruggled recently, Mike Rabel And he's not
even from the tree. He justplayed for him. So you don't have
to go. University Houston's mo isto go get the guys who coached you.
Got that automatically. You come toHouston. You've got to be in
a spread, throw it constantly andkind of play defense. And if your
(07:35):
quarterback's not playing well, he's notvery good, switch two or three times,
go to the transfer portal. Hopefullyget some guys and win eight games.
That to me, if that's allyou're expecting to do, I can
find any swinging unit to win sevengames. A year. I can,
and maybe not in the Big twelve, but you can. You should be
able to go win seven a year. I know that's not Chris Peesman of
the University's goal or Texas A andM for that matter. So I know
(07:58):
there's a lot to discuss. Itwill dive the into it. But and
Chris Peesman will. I don't knowthe athletic director at Texas A and M,
but I do know that Chris Pesmanwill do the due diligence and Listen,
there's a lot of programs that wouldhave liked. Oh, Dana Bull
eligible sometimes not the other times donesome good things. Dada is good football
coach. You didn't forget out ofcoach. Things just didn't go well,
(08:18):
it's time for a change. Whateverit is they didn't get the buy in
the last few years, whether it'sgetting the transfer portal, its recruiting right,
getting the right quarterback who whatever itis. But you don't just have
to go to hey, let's goget that guy because he comes from Listen,
Andy Reid's tree ain't Andy Reid.Just so you understand, Bill Walsh's
(08:39):
tree ain't Bill Walsh. Okay, now there's some good coaching philosophies, but
they're not all great leaders. Itstarts there, Bill, get me that
guy who isn't just out to putup numbers and do it and go get
me somebody who knows how to winchampionships and beat you the right way.
Those guys last so and they're doingit with Trailer, they're doing it with
Willie Fritz. Find me a guywho's taking program that didn't supposed to win
(09:01):
and he's turned it around and gotbuy in like you saw d on the
first three or four weeks. Nowthey didn't one much later, but who
knows if he's staying around, buthe hires Warren Sap that he at least
got people to listen. And onceyou get Peter to listen, it tells
me you know how to lead withoutbegging to tell you when you got to
go somebody say hey, I'm agreat leader. Guess what you're not,
and you're probably not a great leader. The leadership comes without saying, just
(09:22):
by the way you walk into aroom. So let it start that way.
Here, I listen, I canfind you a million guys right now
that can walk in here, andthat I've been to think tanks and the
rest of it that can sit hereand draw you up place I could,
I could a million of them.We all sit in a room. I
can hand pick you right now andsay, this guy can draw up any
play you want, from the spread, from the RPO, inside zone,
outside zone, a vertical passing game. Well, we've all seen it all.
(09:46):
I can draw up any place. The question is how to apply them,
How to get a good staff, how to develop players? Can you
lead them to make them do stuffthat they wouldn't normally? Do? Find
that guy and if you just getme a guy who goes out and throws
for five thousand yards as a coachand and sometimes plays dinners removed from the
defense, because don't give me thatguy, because you know what, you'll
fire him in five years too.And at A and M. You better
(10:07):
pick up your offense. You betterget recruiting, and you better add some
frigging toughness, physical toughness on theright side of the ball and both sides
punch him in the mouth. Defensedid this year? They better find it
off. There's too many good recruitsthere for us. Every week say well,
well who's A and M? Yeah, right, who's A and M?
Right? They get too many goodrecruits for that excuse, you don't
(10:28):
need to be oh, well,he's affiliate with Aggie Football or Trojan I
don't need anybody affiliated with Trojan footballto know what it takes to win with
all this different realignment. Go finda guy who isn't caught up in this
is what we do. And I'mremoved for the fire me a guy who
coaches a team, not coaches theside of the ball. Does that make
(10:50):
sense? Yeah, yep. We'regonna get to college football in the eight
o'clock hour, starting right there ateight o'clock this morning, we'll talk about
a little bit more about the universityfiring daner Holgerson and Texas saying I'm going
and getting Mike Elko. Apparently heflew into college station early early this morning
to sign his new deal. Bythe way, University of Houston they lost
this past Saturday to UCF twenty seventhirteen. They finished their season first one
(11:15):
in the Big Twelve at four andeight overall, two and seven in Big
Twelve play, Texans fall to theJags. Let's talk about CJ. Stroud's
performance, and there are some questionablecalls on third and fourth downs. What
happened. We'll discuss next on theShawn Salisbury Show. Yeap and sort of
pro painters, let's discuss that nowtoo. My personal experiences. I'm a
customer first and I love what theydo and I'm bringing them back. My
(11:37):
guy, Dale, you don't knowyet, Dale, but I'm you know,
I'm bringing you back all the time. But I'm bringing sort of pro
back soon because there's some paint stuffthat I need to get done that I'm
adding to the crib. And sowhether it's for your home or business interior
X here sort of pro. They'rethe official painting partner of the Houston Astros.
They bring a lot to the table. You know, that's sort of
(11:58):
with the c right, guys, you know what I'm talking about. They
whether it's residential, commercial paint jobs, let them refresh it, get your
holiday home ready for the holiday.Right. Everybody loves that. It's great
because paint can be changed if youwant it, but fall color, spring
colors, or you just need anew fresh coat. So can get into
(12:18):
your home and get you ready forthose holidays, to make it look right
and ready for the holiday parties andthe family. The power of timeliness show
up when they say they will inspiration. They'll help you guide by helping you
pick out the paints too. They'llguide you doing it right. Protects their
property and your property like it's theirown localness. They live or you live
in minimal disrustion that disruption. They'llwork, get it done and get home
(12:39):
and do it with the proper safetyprotocols. It's sort of what the sea
sortup propaintersurtapro dot com for your freeestimate, the official painting partner of the
Houston ASTROSK. You got a homeor a business, they're expensive, protect
them with the power of curt ofPro Painters, the best in the business
sort of pro the power pro.The Shawn Salisbury Show continue He Saw seven
(13:00):
ninety and continues in your home,Say Alexa play Sports Talk seven ninety on
iHeartRadio. Yeah, yeah, Hey, filling young. But he chieved me
(13:20):
like an ogie and he wanted toteam on me. I swear he knows.
He said he put some money onmy head. I guess we can't
see. I won't put no moneyon his saim I told me I gotta
be single full while you can't controlme on those trades and obray stick and
hold me and I saw my walkback with the Shawn South radio here on
Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Bryn andTripley. Texans fall of the Jags,
(13:43):
University of Houston football firing Dana Holgerson, Texas A and M their football programs
set to hire Mike Elko as theirnext head coach. We got tons of
football to get into. Let's startwith these Houston Texans. They lose to
the Jags yesterday. Uh Mondola attemptsa fifty eight yard field goal to tie
(14:05):
it to try to force overtime, joint right off the crossbar. No good.
They fall twenty four to twenty one. C Jy Stroud threw for over
four hundred yar excuse me, threehundred yards once again, but it was
not enough. Stroud twenty six tothirty six, three hundred and four yards,
two touchdowns. Trevor Lawrence twenty threeto thirty eight, three hundred and
(14:26):
sixty four yards, one touchdown andan interception. See j. Stroud led
the rushing attack. Sean, It'sprobably not ideal when your quarterback is leading
the rushing attack. It's a tough, tough, hard fought game. But
yet they lose twenty four to twentyone. What did you think about Stroud's
performance yesterday. I thought it wasa solid performance. I think that there
(14:52):
was some calls and decisions it probablycould have been made difference different. I
do not like the balls in hishands. I don't like the two play
sequence of pushing the ball twenty plusyards down the field on third down and
what lesson the yard. Yeah,I also do not like. It's not
high percentage. And quite frankly,I'll tell you this, unless you've got
(15:16):
a lot of time and you're goingto get the ball back three or four
more times in that situation on fourthdown, do not throw a low percentage
fade route again with a tight end. That is not the specialty of what
they do. Whether it was thedecision. Now you get man coverage,
I get it, but you needfour more swings at it, or at
least an opportunity to move the balland have two more swings or one more
(15:37):
throw. I did not like. It's one thing that people automatically think with
the dial up a play that whenBobby Slowe calls a play and you know
it goes throughout and we'll get tothe referees here in a second, it
goes throughout. You call a playthat it's a one man read. No,
it's not a one man read.So the question is, was was
(15:58):
Schultz the third go to guy toget him on the fade route? Should
we have gone somewhere else with thefootball? What was his progressions? Did
slow just call because he wanted torun a t That's not your high percentage
play in that. I understand onfirst down taking a shot, I do
get a mismatch a slower, biggerguy on a tight end. That said,
(16:19):
have to lead your team and catches, go go get take a shot.
Just do it smart. But onfourth down, can't throw you cannot,
you can absolutely cannot. Less thecorner falls down, You cannot throw
a fade route to a tight endon fourth down lesson he yard your yard,
you can't do it. So whateverplay caller was, matter of fact,
you take that out of the equation. Call that on early downs where
(16:41):
you got a shot for a mismatchI need. I don't care if it's
a sprint right on the run. Now, I thought his feet were great
yesterday he used his feet. Ididn't think it was as clean a pocket.
They looked like they struggled with protections. I saw one time where Josh
Allen, the edge rusher, hemade tons Will look like he was sitting
(17:02):
in concrete. Late in the game, I think they went back to back
sacks. It was Island come fromthe from the defensive right end and he
he just he just punked him.So I think the protection and how I
went about the protection was at timessuspect. Yesterday. I know there's a
lot of penalties. Listen, Iknow how they equal out. Oh you
(17:22):
can't call him. There were someThe call on Nelson when they called holding
coming out for Jacksonville was a horriblecall. Awful, he didn't even touch
him. Awful, And yet yetthere were calls. The truth is on
a couple of calls that fans werebooing at, they got them right,
but they missed him. They missedhim on both sides because it was a
blatant What I'm trying to build inhere is it, let's not walk out
(17:44):
of this and be like some otherfan base. Does it make excuses for
losing a game that the referees hadit in for you. The referee sucked
all across the league yesterday. Yeit's embarrassing. That, Oh, it's
an easy job. And if you'rea referee listening, I'm not talking to
you, unless, of course youread in the game yesterday. If you're
a referee listeners, well, Sean, you know how hard it is.
Yeah, a matter of fact,I actually do know how hard it is,
(18:06):
having watched them have to deal withit. And I wouldn't want their
job. But guess what, Idon't get paid to do be called an
expert at my job as a referee. They can't do my job either.
Okay, they probably have a betterchance of doing my job than I do
it theirs, and that's a fact. They're probably more adept to coming in
here doing my job like I amand you are to talk sports than we
would be to go referee a game. I don't want any part of it.
(18:29):
But if you're out there and you'remaking that money and you're there to
be judged if we if we seeyou missed a bunch of calls in this
game all across but both ways, and it felt to me though, as
the broadcast crew, it felt tome that the broadcast crew had a wild
hair for Jacksonville. They did,it was right, It was really weird,
just like no offense. I'm goingto tell you now, there's two
(18:52):
things that go on, and youknow Nance and Romo. I love them
both. I've known Jim forever andTony four. I love them both.
But I'm okay to to to criticizewhen Essa first off, and we'll get
to Emmanuolacho suit too. I'll getto that, and shame on Fox for
allowing that on TV, because Idon't even know what he's saying when he's
got that kind of suit on.It was quite frankly off. That was
(19:15):
the worst thing I saw all week, and worse than the refs. That
suit makes it like he's a brightguy, too good analyst. I don't
even have. I couldn't even focuson what he's saying. The suit was
so god awful that I couldn't evenget to his mouth okay to hear what
he was saying. But I digressback to these officials. Let's not be
the fan base says we now,you criticize a way we should because they
(19:37):
were frigging awful. You get paidthat kind of money to go referee a
game, you got to get moreright than that. But the the was
it. Evan Ingram is that whoit was? Yeah? On the slant
route, Yeah, they held himfor five yards and the interception that Lawrence
throw I'm talking about it was horroron both sides refering it just was.
(20:02):
There are some bad calls. Thebroadcast team felt to me like they couldn't
wait for Jacksonville to win and Iand those guys are good. I mean,
they give some good insight, butit almost felt as if they weren't
buying into what the Texans now. They love some C. J. Stratton,
Tobikole Ryant. I'm talking about overall, And if you watch the Philly
game against Buffalo, I could tellyou this old Dallas cowboy, he loves
(20:23):
himself some Buffalo and he trying toPhilly was difficult on him to Tony's good,
but you could tell. I canalways tell when a broadcasters leaning somewhere
and he thinks Josh Allen hung themoon, which is fine at times it
looks like he's hung the moon, but when you're listening to that, sometimes
that frustration and jumps into well thereferees, like I said, I think
(20:48):
Tiki Barb was it Tiki or yeah? Tek bar and Matt Ryan did do
a hell of a job. Butit felt to me the energy felt Jacksonville
energy. I get it, Idon't I don't like it. I think
you're supposed to to keep that partout of it. And you could tell
that the energy for I thought inthe afternoon game, which was a hell
of a game, that there wasa lot of energy for Buffalo when Philly
is quite frankly the best team infootball. So and their resilience is amazing.
(21:12):
So let's not be the fan base. Hey complain and bitch all we
want, but let's not be thefan base that blames a loss strictly unofficials,
because that wasn't the case. BecauseI'm gonna tell you they gave up
way too many big plays in thesecondary, way too many the back end.
You can't give up four plays offorty plus yards or more. You
just can't do it. You justcannot do it. So when you're giving
(21:36):
up big chunk plays like that,So I thought Stroud was solid. His
poison ability to come back after amistake and to lead his team back is
uncanny. And his feet are somuch better than people give him credit for.
Guy's a hell of a player. So listen, you got Beatbatch once
again, they're in position their gameout of home field. Advanced about the
(21:57):
playoffs, meaning jackson a good team. Referees were not good yesterday up and
down the slate and awful in thisone. Because we're local, we saw
it. But that is not thereason they lost the game. Because they
got a couple of calls and wenttheir way that if you're a Jacksonville fan,
you'd say that was awful. Iget it, and will trust me
(22:18):
that Jacksonville. The broadcast team letus know on the slant route just how
heinous they thought that call was forabout twenty five minutes. Yeah, okay,
so they wouldn't let it go right, No, of course they wouldn't,
so I get it. But itwas you got it. Those are
the games you got to close outto win divisions, and they couldn't do
it at home. And I getit. Jacksonville's good and Trevor Lawrence had
a hell of a game. Thesimilarities being between the two impressive because they
(22:41):
both can beat you with their feet, they can throw it from the pocket,
and they both have a propensity tomake big plays. I thought there
was a few throws that would normallymake that were missed and I thought that
the protection broke down a little bitmore than I would have liked. But
listen, Josh, they get afterit up front. Now, that's a
good football team. So took aloss, but that doesn't mean anything other
(23:02):
than that it's a loss. Now, you got to move on. Schedule
favors you. Jacksonville's they're gonna getbeat again. Yeah, so you got
an opportunity to jump back in yesterdaywould have been monumental as far as yeah,
getting themselves in a great position. They fell short, as did the
referees, and as did the refereesin a lot of games yesterday. But
that's not the reason. Through afour quarter game that the only reason you
lost. The Texans gave up toomany explosive plays to the Jaguars. Head
(23:23):
coach Demiko Ryans talked about it afterthe game. We'll hear that audio and
discuss next right here on Sports Talkseven ninety. But first, it's time
for your University of Houston football CougarDaily update. The Koogs finished their season
with a loss against UCF twenty seventhirteen. Donovan Smith, the quarterback,
twelve to twenty one hundred and sixtyone yards passing one touchdown, one interception.
(23:45):
On the ground, Donovan Smith fourteencarries twenty four yards, Stacey c
three carries thirty three yards. Nota lot of movement on the ground.
Receiving the football. Joseph man jackthe four reception seventy four yards, Stefan
Johnson's six receptions sixty nine yards anda touchdown. The Coogs fall to four
(24:06):
and eight to conclude their season twoand seven and Big Twelve conference play.
And when you're rooting on the Kogsor your favorite college football team, make
sure you're doing it with the dosesekis. Do sekis. Those game day
is filled with iconic traditions, thefight songs of rivalries, the iconic stadiums.
Whatever your game day tradition is,make sure you're doing it with the
real one, and that is dosekies. Raise one with a real one,
enjoy do sekis responsibly twenty twenty threeDo sequi supported by servaces many ecanas,
(24:32):
White plays in New York get adose. We want to win.
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety takeyou too much? We the best,
say thank you another one another one. Jake College Sketter, Me and my
(24:53):
chick list three years ago. Hexzero s one in a minute Talking Texas
football, you're on the Shawn SalisburyShow, Sean Brian and TRIPLEE. They
fall to the Jags yesterday at NRGStadium, twenty four to twenty one.
Cougars fire Dana Holgerson. So nowthey're gonna have to find a new head
coach. Texas A and M setto hire Mike Elko as their next head
(25:18):
coach for the football program. Eaglesoutlast the Bills in overtime last night.
Got a lot to look at whenit comes to NFL from this past weekend.
Also the Thanksgiving games, Dallas lookedreally good in their game. Demico
Ryans spoke about giving up too manyexplosive plays against the Jags yesterday. This
is what the head coach of theTexans had to say. That's not him.
(25:44):
Sounded like is that a violin, well, violin on a little violin
action. Huh Yeah, there wego. Let's hear from Demico Ryans.
The explosive plays, you can't havethem, right, You give up explosive
plays equals points, and that's whathappened. We gave him too many explosives
on defense, right, They justthey beat us on a couple of plays,
good plays by them. We werethen execute the details of our job.
(26:04):
Well, you don't execute versus areally good team, that's what happens.
And Jacksonville is a really good team. They are eight and three now
and they're five and zero on theroadshon and they're winning. I mean they
listen at times, they look reallypedestrian in games, and when they you
(26:27):
kind of know when they're going throughthat they're that they make No, they
don't hide anything when they're going throughone of those like they did against San
Francisco. It's like, this ain'tthe same team I'm used to watch them,
But you see what a coach anda quarterback have done for them,
and an explosive running back in ETN. And they've got good football players and
their pass rush can be devastating attimes, as the Texans found out,
(26:49):
and Dvinko Ryan's one hundred percent correct. He didn't allow the officiating to I'm
sure it pissed him off, andhe'll go watch tape say how do you
call that? But over the courseof a game, they missed him on
all sides in a lot of games. The truth of the matter is four
plus forty yard plus plays in agame or way too many. Yeah,
you've got Calvin Ridley had a receptionof forty five yards, Christian Kirk fifty
(27:10):
seven, Luke Ferrell forty two,Denis Johnson forty two. And at the
times they came were some clutch moments. They just made a couple more than
this team did. And you knowwhat to lose by, really one more
rotation of a football if it rotatesand he hit the back end of the
front of the back of the frontof the of the ball, back of
(27:33):
the you got the front part ofthe ball hit the back of the front,
which means the like you got thefront tip, and just take go
about six inches towards the middle ofthe football. That's the back of the
front part. Football hits the backand rotates the other way right, and
so it hits and goes in asopposed to coming out. So one more,
really half or a rotation of thefootball, and you're getting an assisted
(27:56):
an assisted tie. That's exactly right. So uh, listen happens. We
may get fortunate enough to see thosetwo teams meet again, but we are
bunched in this league with some guysin the in the in the Hunt group
and the last wild card Buffalo tooktheir loss. They're scrambling in the Hunt.
This team scrambling the Indianapolis Colts allthe I mean, it is a
(28:22):
it's a battle royal for this thisuh, this whole thing and this not
only this division, but going toget in and seven teams are going to
make it and a couple of goodones are going to get left out.
And you start to hear some people, I think it was Josh Allen,
said we're probably gonna need to getto ten wins to get in and and
that that's say, that's some serioussled. And you're at eleven games or
so into the season with what willgive you six to go five or six
(28:44):
to go to get to seventeen? It is it's going to take a hell
of an effort, but the schedulefavors them. Post your score, get
to ten, and let's see whathappens. Yeah, let's go out to
the phone line seven one, three, two, two, five, seven,
nine of the start with Andy,Andy, good morning. You know
sign that offensive line. They giveup four sacks, but they had to
give up a ton of hurries aswell. That's the most I've seen CJ
(29:07):
knocked off the block in any gamethis year. And our defensive line and
I was with basically with four guysrushing. Now our four guys rushing didn't
do nothing, and they didn't putno, hardly any pressure on Lawrence.
And then our secondary and then ourreceivers when was off the block, seems
(29:30):
like none of them could get open. They couldn't break off the routes and
come back to him or you know, he'd get off the block and run
out to the side, and Iwas thinking, well, somebody's gonna be
wide open, and that just didn'thappen. And then our secondary, well,
they couldn't cover nobody, and manthe man, it seems like they
were through two or three yards fouryards behind a guy every time. What
(29:52):
do you think about that? Thankyou Andy? Yeah, I know he's
he's one correct on the scroend. They did a phenomenal job. That did
it happen a couple of times forJacksonville where there was one where it was
a felt like about a ten secondplay late in the game. Remember saying,
damn, dude, you got plentyof times. Somebody's got to get
up it right, left, right, and no one was open. They
(30:15):
plastered about Yeah, and it's it'sthat's important. You'll hear coaches teach it
all the time. Hey, whenhe breaks out of the pocket to play
breaks, you've got to plaster yourguy, and they did a good job
of it. But advantage yesterday passrush for the Jacksonville Jaguars Jacksonville Secondary and
(30:36):
Trevor Lawrence outplayed CJ a little bityesterday because they had bigger plays, which
you're not gonna hear very much.I think I think c J. Stroud's
the quickest to a certain amount ofyards in like eleven or so games of
anybody in the history. Are close. You are correct, Yeah, I
mean his what he's doing is nothingshort of fantastic. But right now he
doesn't care about that. What hecares about is one or two extra plays
(30:57):
it could have been, you know, could have ended in a different result.
But you're always risking it when youkeep the game like that. You
get my point, when when ithovers around there, you're always risking problems
happen, especially against a good team, let alone an average team. This
is a better than the better thanan average team. Both are, but
(31:17):
when you run into a good team, there's certain things you can't do.
And they were pushed around at theline of scrimmage and they gave up way
too many big plays that those arethe explosive you want that we've see in
this offense that Jacksonville had and thepotential because they've got some players that can
go get it now. Yeah, sure do. Let's get to John John
good morning, Hey, good morning. Yeah. You know, there's six
games left and it's just there forwhoever can get it together and rise up
(31:41):
and take it. And we're oneof the teams. It's a good place
to be. We got a reallycritical game coming up. You know.
I'm mixed on the secondary. Youknow, I thought they did some good
plays as well. I just thinkthey got jobbed at critical moments that they
shouldn't have I, you know, and and uh those were important moments when
(32:05):
the you know, the calls didn'tfavor them, and even when you see
the announcer kind of groaning like, you know, where was the penalty?
You know? So, uh,I feel bad for him in that in
that regard and one other thing Iwanted to just throw out there. And
I don't know how you feel I'mnot being critical necessarily. Uh, you
know, hindsight's always easy twenty twenty, But what charn would you have gone
(32:27):
for it at fourth and what wereyou? Fourth and eleven, fourth and
twelve, fourth and yeah, twelinstead of kicking it, No, I'm
kicking you're talking about at the endof the game. Yeah, yeah,
I would have kicked it. Iwould have done well, yeah, I
would have done what he did.Because if you're studying, I mean not
you, but if we're looking atanalytics, the chances literally what you do
(32:51):
is a lot of times in thosesituations you pressure, well instead you play,
you pressure and force the guy tothrow hot. And what they do
is they throw hot and they catchand tackle, so they'll give you a
six yard Now, if it wasfourth and four, different ballgame, catch
blitz, fall forward for a firstdown. But fourth and eleven, I
can force you somewhere to throw theball. Either check out of a play,
(33:15):
which you're probably in those situations alittle nervous to do with a rookie
quarterback, but to call a play. I can force you somewhere to throw
hot and even if you complete it, a catch and tackle means okay,
you get to even if you gotseven yard just still my ball turns over.
But four or less I can catchthrow hot and I'm beyond the first
(33:35):
down marker. I would have donethe same thing. Inside of seven six
yards, I would have put mytrust in my kicker. And he hit
a square, just didn't hit itfar enough, unfortunately, Like I said,
a half revolution, that's just toofar. And on that drive,
forcing them back to put him insituations that was a big part of this
game. They kept taking him outof short yardage, put him in long
yardage, and it just got toomuch. But I think that was the
(33:59):
right call, and I would havegone forward on that fourth and short as
well. Problem is, I wouldn'thave thrown a fade route. I'm not
throwing a fade route to a tightend with the game on. I got
to get the first down, thenI'll take my fade shot. I thought
that was the wrong decision by thequarterback and the wrong play call to give
him. Okay, yeah, fairenough, you know, And I love
(34:20):
Damiko. I I just I meanEmandola hasn't hit one that long. But
I mean it was a chance, and we almost got it. Like you
said, it was just half arotation. Ye get it square right down
the middle. Yep. And Tamika, listen, you go with what you're
feeling. And he's gonna there won'tbe the last time he makes a decision
that doesn't favor us, but he'llmake far more that do than don't.
And you know, referees calls yep, yep, thank you, John,
(34:44):
thank you. Referee calls were missed. But Jacksonville was going down to score
as well on the interference when hewas held, so he can go.
But listen, I was said ofsaying, you can. I cannot believe
what they're missing. And like Isaid, it looked to me like they
were guessing at times, and itwas on both sides. That's what I'm
saying. You can't guess like thatdude hand fighting that they go up let
(35:06):
him play football. I thought itwas weak, dude. I even which
game was I watching where they calleda personal foul? Oh, Josh Allen
to fake with the one, Josh. The was a buffalo yesterday when the
guy came by and pushed on hisshoulder pad late and they threw it.
(35:27):
They got the referee standing right backthere. Did you see this? I'm
like, come on Yeah, wewe, Like I said, we've wissified
this to the point of they justguess at times I don't want their job.
But I can also tell you thatif you are going to be considered
an expert in your field, youcan't miss that many easy calls with the
naked eye. If you do,then we got to double check it.
So there's another Uh. I thinkthat a lot of a lot of fans
(35:50):
are kind of confused. So ahorse caller in the pocket is legal,
but then out of the pocket it'snot right. So there was a questionable
call. Why they didn't all ahorse caller on c J. Stroud yesterday,
Well, he was in the pocket, so it's technically legal. Well,
then there was a play last night. I was pointed out by the
broadcast right by the was it DeanBlandino or was it Well it's a jeans
(36:12):
stator who's really good at his job. And then in the Buffalo game,
Uh, they Josh Allen's getting yankeddown and they actually called intentional grounded because
the underhand got rid of it.But yet they missed the horse caller right
in front of the official. Notonly that, and then they reviewed it
and Tony Romo was spot on.There was no should have been intentional grounding.
(36:32):
No, the guy he flipped itto him. There was a receiver
within three yards, right, footballdoesn't matter how you throw it. You
could throw it around your back ifit's close. He underhanded it. It
was the intention was to get itto the guy close. That should not
have been called The missed one hundredand eighty degrees wrong. Like I mean,
from me to you, there's anofficial right in front of the job
is to watch that, right thequarterback. I just I don't understand it.
(36:54):
Man, right, And then ifyou go back on replay and watch
it, it's a no brainer, freaking no brainer that there was somebody.
There's a there was a skilled positionplayer right around the ball. It's just,
yeah, you can't you see thoseYou can't miss that. You can't
miss the simple just like a quarterbackcan't miss the simple throw to stay a
sustained good player, you can't missthose calls that are right there for the
(37:16):
naked item A. Yeah, it'scrazy. Let's let's look at some of
the uh defensive numbers for the Texansand lack of pass rush. That's next

University of Houston football firing Daniel Holgerson, Texas A and M set to
hire Mike Elkah as their next headcoach. College football. We're gonna discuss
that right at eight o'clock in themorning. Got a lot of playoff implications
(39:35):
on the line. Alabama survives.I don't know how Auburn choked that one
off. Texas be down text Tech. We got plenty to talk about when
it comes to college football. That'sat eight o'clock this morning. Continue to
talk about these Texans. You know, one of the things we hit on
a little bit earlier, Sean,is the pocket for CJ. Stroud.
He was sacked four times yesterday fora loss of forty three yards. Trevor
(39:59):
Lawrence he was sacked zero times. So let's look at some of these defensive
numbers. Got some of these statisticshere for you. QB hits on Trevor
Lawrence. How many do you thinkthe Texans had yesterday, Trevor Lawrence,
I think less than five two.How many times do you think the defense
(40:22):
for Jacksonville hit c J. Stroudquarterback hits, hits, pressures right in
his grill sacks that's eleven or twelve? So seven QB hits, QB hits
mixed in with the sacks, that'seleven. There was no pass rush whatsoever
against Trevor Lawrence yesterday. None.See, those are the and when you
(40:45):
let that happen, and you sawthe way he was pushing the ball down
a fit, you let them rollthrough zones and get the places where he
can just step and deliver the greatestthing in the world for quarterbacks. Clean
pocket average quarterbacks become good, goodbecome great, and great dominate you.
And he's between good and great. So he's gonna just like the guy here.
If you're going to give C.J. Stroud all kinds of time,
(41:05):
we've seen it. He bury yourass and he tried to. Yesterday
had him in position once again goingdown the field to win. And I
was damn sure that it was goingto happen, didn't you at least the
time, It damn sure because theway he's played. But you've got to
keep him up right. And Ithought his feet did a good I thought
he did a great job with hisfeet of buying time. But then there
(41:27):
was no separation in the secondary forthe big plays, and you saw easier
separation. And one thing, eventhough we didn't like the officials calls because
they missed the Nelson slant route, they also missed the hold. There was
no doubt it was a hold, you know, on Ingram, So they
missed him both ways. But here'sone thing I do know for the Texans
(41:50):
and the technique or something they getpenalized a lot in the secondary. That's
that's got to be that they've gotto do a better job of whether it's
positioning, playing the ball yet theweek before, phenomenal job, playing the
football in the air, phenomenal job. So and like I said, Christian
kirk Zey John, they're pretty loaded. They got good players, man,
(42:14):
and you got a quarterback that canspot it and if you don't pressure him,
he's gonna beach and he's got greatfeet. So I thought the difference
in the game was twofold one homerun hitters. Too many big plays,
as I said, was the openthe show, and the front seven of
the Jacksonville Jaguars was more active thanthe Texans were. Yeah, and when
(42:37):
that's going on, you either gotto change on the fly your game plan
or you got to hope that you'regetting great back in coverage. And they
just weren't getting it on big playsyes day. Couldn't stick, They couldn't
plaster long enough to prevent the bigplay. You know what. One thing,
and we've discussed this multiple times andI just I still I can't fathom
it. And again it was onboth sides yesterday. The refs are so
(42:58):
bad, yep, throughout the lead? How do we not as a league
have the ability to review everything? How do we not have cameras at every
angle? How do we not haveways to make things right? I'm just
gonna use the tank Dell catch. We tweeted it out with our show tweet.
(43:19):
I tweeted it out yesterday and it'sgetting a lot of attraction. It's
clear he's got control of the footballand he's got two feet in now.
The picture that I posted, I'massuming is from a camera angle of a
photographer. How is there not acamera there to look at for the NFL?
Like for New York, they sendthings back to New York to get
it right. How are we notgetting this right? And how are we
(43:40):
not the Evan Ingram hold that wasblatant as can be? How do they
not get that right with the reviewingcapabilities? I do not understand it and
I will never understand it. Andit was an easy call. Both of
them are right, and listen,I don't you know how I am.
I don't care. You don't needto give him more challenge flags. You
just need to be able to revieweverything. Yeah, get it right.
(44:02):
It's not when I say review. We're not stopped. When we say review.
Somebody will say, so you wantto stop down on a on a
encroachment call and review it upstairs unlessit's blatant. Yeah, actually I do,
But it doesn't mean review. Doesn'tmean stop down, stop down?
Gotcha? Stop down? Yeah, and stop down and have the old every
(44:28):
single play where you stop down andwe got to go up to the That's
not the ability to review every playwhile the other plays going on. They
can be up there looking at itin between. Guys, dude, he
was off side. There was somethingyesterday and the Bills Eagles game, they
didn't expedite a review. That's exactlyright within like not even a minute thirty
seconds, and it needs to bedone and they got it right. And
so for me, it just Ipersonally don't understand when you're calling these Why
(44:52):
every single play? Why can't Ireview illegal procedure? If the left tackles
jumping off sides before the ball stamped, you can go on with the next
play. But then a guy buzzesdown to you and says, hey,
the guy left tackle moved. Yeah, Hey, I just don't understand.
And there's certain calls in a gamelike rough, like certain things that you
want to go review that when theysay it's not reviewab why every call is
(45:15):
a judgment call. Somebody's making thecall, it's their judgment. To me,
everything should be right there formulated. That's the template. And then you
got your two reviews a half andlet's go. Or in a game,
you got your two reviews, let'sgo. I don't like it. I
don't like it at all. AndI think that we have to have a
better way of well pass interference. If a guy pushes this guy and you
(45:37):
don't call her grabs his jersey,we should be able to review that.
Yeah, it's dumb. They hadit at one point, rid of it
because because they took that, theydidn't know how to make a sound decision.
Call it like you see, andlet's go play the blatant ones especially
we got to get right. I'mwith you. I don't understand why we
don't have more camp Listen, wouldyou rather have eight more cameras in the
stadium than it's not that expensive forthe NFL they got plenty of money.
(46:00):
I would you should demand that acertain amount of camera's got to be in

a half. So if you tookthe over, sorry about it. I'll
bet you you win far more gamestaking the under in soccer than the over.
I would think that. But no, my betting luck, our betting
luck from the weekend, don't sayhour. Well, there's a mouse in
your pocket now that what do youmean, you're right there with me.
We should have known better in theMichigan the course, of course, Marvin
Harrison wasn't going to catch six ballbomb? What bomb you think, Jackson?
(49:45):
Do you think they had your gamblingin mind? I was two yards
shy of a big six hundred payoutlast night. If mar Jackson is a
bum, If I had a dime, if I had a dime for every
single time I came up a yardor a player or a point short in
gambling, then guess what you mightown the hotel and casino they're building their

Do you want to start hanging outdimes or what dropping dimes? I'll drop

the deck with that eure. ButI love the Dynamo and I'm glad this
is awesome. Another championship in thistown would be great in any sport.
And congrats to the Dynamo. Backto your gambling. Uh, the fact
(50:50):
that you're have become a degenerate, yep, an enthusiast probably, which is
a good thing. I'm a suckerfor a parlay man. But you're here's
here's what you'll do. You willtake the fate, you'll take the here's
the three things with I'm not sayingyou're an amateur gambler. Probably am,
but here's what the majority of them. They take the favorite, they love
(51:15):
the over, and they always betthe big game. There you go,
instead of bet the ones you can. You're in it to make money,
okay, And then the best thingto usually do is stay out of If
you have a team you love, stay out of the emotional part of it
because instead of rooting for your team, you're then you find yourself, well,
(51:35):
we're up by five. I tookthe other team because they were favored
by whatever. I need my teamthem to score another point even though we're
gonna I want to win the bet, even though I'm losing the game,
or vice versa. When I've whenI bet on you, I've lost more
money on the Trojans than I haveon any team. Because it's the emotional.
That's exactly right, the emotional partof it, so you can't do
it. But yeah, it's it'llalways I'm up. Hey, how many
(52:00):
two yard shot? Oh man? They got me on a back door cover.
Great, that's why it's gambling.I don't know how they do it,
but they do it, and Itry to look at it fairly closely.
But sorry missed out. Brother. Here was my four player parlay last
night. I took the over forPatrick Mahomes throwing yards passing yards two hundred
and sixty two and a half.He got two ninety eight. I took
(52:21):
the over on rushing tds for JalenHurts and I got one. Two overs.
Yeah you go. People love theovers. Here we go. Lamar
Jackson needed forty one. You rushedthe yards. I took the over,
he got thirty nine, and thenI took Justin Tucker over one and a
half field goals made he made two. I bet I could have won.
Yeah, I would have won sixhundred and fifty bucks. Yeah that hurts
(52:44):
cuts deep. Are you kidding me? No? I'm not kidding, because
you bom Lamar Jackson two more yards. Yeah. Gambling, dude, it'll
get you it's fun, man, though, Keep you interested in games you're
not interested in and I did.I did a running back parlay yesterday to
thanks a lot Devin Singletary for youreighteen second half rushing yards. You bum
(53:05):
They're all bums, really so therethey should take you. They gotta.
I mean, it's all about yourbetty. It is right now. There's
somebody saying out there saying, Iam so happy the Jacksonville's defense shut down
Devin Singletary and hell of eighteen yardand second half because I won. I
took the under See every single betyou took it over. You didn't take
one d I didn't come over theweekend? You did? Did it hit
(53:29):
h the one I did? Yeah? You're right, so yeahdn't the key?
I need a study if you tookthe underdog, meaning the gambling underdog,
not the winner lose underdog, thegambling underdog points wise every game an
entire NFL season, the underdog.I wonder what the statistics say if you
(53:51):
took the underdog every game and tookthat and and they the somebody laid you
those points and you took them.I wonder what the percentage of underdog verse
favorite is this year. I knowthey get that. Analytic has to be
out there. That's a big partof gambling. I'm not wise enough to
go through all this crap and lookfor it. But at some point in
(54:13):
time one weekend, it's like, just take the under every time, right,
or take the underdog or the underin yards, in points, in
passing ears and see just on asimple base, I can lose one hundred
bucks. Let's do this. Isee what happens. I'll bet you that
the under. Because amateur gamblers, they do not the sharp. They love
(54:35):
overs, they love the big game, and they love the favorite. I'll
tell you what. Doing something todegenerate gambling. A couple of parlays here
and there. It gets you lockedin. I've never I watched every single
game this weekend, dude, you'llbe watching games. Yeah. Man,
you couldn't get me off the couchyesterday, I promise you. I worked
out early and I went and satand watched every play of every game I
(54:58):
could. Yesterday, laptop up hadmy TV on both of them, and
you would have thought, you wouldhave thought I had my mortgage on the
on the line. I got newsfor it. I had total like thirty
bucks on the line college hoops ona Tuesday night, when I got Seaton
Hall, when I got Villanova takingcare of Seaton Hall, You're like,
I'm watching Seaton Hall. Oh yeah, you'll sing duke in Colgate. Yes,
(55:19):
I took seventy on because early on, these teams will the heavy the
heavy fair If James Madison, whothey beat earlier this year, I think
they beat somebody. They beat somebodypower in Michigan State. So just I
love college oops. This is thegambling season for me that even the bigger
one. College hoops is where Iwhere I you know how a good hitter
(55:42):
I do damage. Yeah, that'swhere I do some damage in a lot
of it in college hoops. ButI digress. The most valuable player in
the NFL. You mentioned Lamar Jackson. He ain't it. Okay, he's
having a good year, but hisnumbers are not gaudy enough to be I
think it's a three horse race today. And our guy here and I'll tell
you why our guy here now whenI win at six, well he should
be. He's gonna be the offensiverookie of the year. But right now,
(56:06):
you see j Stroud's not in thetop three I'll tell you who I
believe is is that Dak Prescotta,Noe no particular to Prescott, Hurts and
Purty should be your top three, ahead of Lamar Jackson, aut of Trevor
Lawrence, ahead of Josh Allen turnsthe ball over too much. I had
of Patrick Mahomes, who's really good. His name will be in the first
four or five as well, aheadof C. J. Stroud, although
(56:27):
he's done some amazing things those three. Look at Perdy's numbers, look at
Prescott's numbers, look at both oftheir teams, and then third, Well,
Jalen Hurts is just a full grownman. Yeah, that guy's poises,
but is his is poised as anyplayer we've had in the poised is
any player we've had in the lasttwo decades? That's how he's that poised.
Yeah, he showed it last night. That's for damn sure. He's
(56:49):
a winner. Man. Let's getto the stakeout next. On the Shawn
Salisbury Show. Hey, this isCharles Barker. You guys called I put
on some way since my playing days. You should see Sean on Solsboro Horroble.
Now back to the Sean Solisboro Show. What a knucklehead? All right,
(57:12):
Sean, what are you hearing outthere now? The Salisburysteakouts, Salisbury's
Takeouts on the Sean Salisbury Show.Time for the steakout here on the Shawn

Houston firing their head football coach DanaHolgerson. Texas A and M set to
hire Mike Elko as their next headcoach for the football program. Houston Dynamo
head of the Western Conference Final inMLS action. They beat Sporting Casey last
night one nil. Before I getto uh my question, Sean, let's
(57:53):
get to Marcus. He's been holdingon for a while. Marcus, good
morning, Good morning guys. Iheard you, guys. I mentioned some
of the MVP candidates, and Ijust wanted to ask, is the MVP
truly based on Hey, if Itake this guy off the team, this
team is gonna plummet, because ifyou look at some of the quarterbacks that
perform this year, like that ChrisCoott, some of his best numbers are
(58:15):
against teams that aren't even five hundred. So I think it's just this year
they have to seriously consider a nonquarterback winning the award. And a comment
I wanted to make is that maybewe need to reevaluate what a franchise quarterback
is. Is Lamar and Josh Allenhave not been that guy. They're great
quarterbacks, but franchise like top five. I think it's time we reevaluate and
(58:37):
move toward into that conversation. AndI'll hang up and listening to the guys's
comment on that. Yeah, Marks, you make a good point. I
don't think we know what the criteriais. They may set it for the
people who vote. And when Iwas at ESPN Television, I had a
vote for the NFL Player of theYear on one of the uh one of
(58:57):
the voting, not the fifty onewhere it's the one for NFL was another
one, and I took it serious. I don't know what the criteria is.
I'd hope that people do take itserious. The criteria meaning is it
best player on best team? Isit numbers? They'll tell you a certain
criteria, but if they tell you, well it shouldn't just be about the
(59:20):
numbers, guess what they're going todo. Still look at the numbers.
If they tell you, and Idon't. I'm trying to separate the two.
It was Marcus who called right, correct, is there's a difference between
a franchise quarterback and winning the MVP? And you are right, Louis Lamar
and Josh Allen appear to be franchisequarterbacks and are paid like it. If
we only judge franchise quarterbacks based onSuper Bowls, then there's going to be
a lot of Hall of Famers andgreat players that are going to miss out.
(59:43):
So I do believe Lamar and JoshAllen are franchise quarterbacks. Are they
the elite of the franchise quarterbacks? As franchise quarterbacks eventually win you a championship.
But I don't think that has anythingto do with the MVP because I
don't think most people thought rock Pertywhen he was drafted seventh round, last
pick of the draft was an wasa franchise quarterback. He's turned into one.
At least that's the way it appears. So yeah, the criteria,
(01:00:06):
maybe it is. And the twoguys that come to my mind, and
Tua does need to be in theconversation. Just like Mahomes Prescott's numbers.
People may not go back and sayYeah, Well, Dak had four hundred
yards passing against a bad team. You can't control that because if he only
had two hundred and twenty yards versusbad team, guess what we'd say,
Well, he should have thrown forfour hundred. So I don't think it's
going to be judged like that. But yes, is it if you take
(01:00:28):
him off the team? Can theteam still do what they want to do?
Can they have the same numbers ifyou take him off the team?
Are they a non playoff team withthe team or do they get I mean,
does he upgrade everybody what is andthat they have the offensive player of
the year. So to me,you know what, it comes down to
the biggest numbers on one of thebest teams. That's kind of what I
feel like it does. But Tua, if you're going non quarterback, to
(01:00:52):
me, the top two candidates inthe NFL are Christian McCaffrey and Tyreek Hill.
Those guys who literally changed the courseof a game offensively without the ball
in their hand. Every time theyjust do. It's a phenomenal. It's
like with Randy Moss. Moss usedto change the course of the way you
defended a game, even if hedidn't have a career game. So the
(01:01:15):
difference in franchise how we evaluate. There's certain guys. They'll tell you the
fifteenth player on the rock of thefifteenth best quarterback in league's a franchise quarterback.
What is a franchise quarterback? Isit a guy who gives you a
decade of great work? Is DerekCarr franchise quarterback? He's paid like one.
He is their quarterback in the franchise. I can tell you right now,
Derek Carr and Dennis Allen and PeteCarmichael, that trifect has never win
(01:01:36):
in a Super Bowl in New Orleans. It's not going to happen. You're
not going to see it happen becauseafter this year it's going to change.
And no disrespect, just fact.So yeah, I don't know what the
judgment is. I can tell youthis though, that the Purty and Hurts
and Prescott, McCaffrey, Hill Tuaand then there's a narrative. I don't
know what it is. It's almostlike people still don't want to give two
(01:01:58):
of the credit he deserves. Hethrows on time, he says accurate as
it gets. That's why the MiamiDolphins are sitting in a really good position,
and if he's late, his arm'snot strong enough like Josh Allens is
to make up for it. Sowhatever that criteria is to me, if
I'm voting, I'm taking all ofit into account. Numbers. What happens
if you remove him from the roster, what happens if he stays on there?
(01:02:21):
How's he play in the clutch? How does he play against good teams?
How's he play against bad teams? How's he play in the second half
of a game in December? Andremember, when it comes to the MVP,
we're not judging postseason. It's justa simple regular season award. So
the truth is, it's in myopinion, it's the best numbers on a
playoff caliber team. Is how they'regoing to judge it. Me, that's
(01:02:43):
how they're going to judge it,and that's the way it's always going to
be. So they And if youhave a non dominant to the point where
a quarterback does not have that seasonwhere it's like five thousand yards and forty
touchdowns and there's a time to getoutside where it's it's truly a quarterback award,
then that other guy's got a rushfor nineteen hundred yards and score eighteen
(01:03:04):
touchdowns, like have a two thousandplus yard catching and receiving season right where
you combined, And then now you'retalking that guy could creep into the MVP.
But if it continues, we're goingto continue to give it to the
best quarterback on the closes on aplayoff caliber team that puts up the guttiest
numbers. That's usually the way itworks. So that was gonna be my
stag up question is who is yourMVP as it stands today? And is
(01:03:30):
it a quarterback? Taking everything intoaccount, I don't of the teams.
Do I think the forty nine erscan win games without Rock Perty? I
don't think they'd be you'd know howI feel about Perty. I think that
the stigma because of worry was drafted. If he was the fifth pick of
the draft, everybody in San Franciscowould be saying, Okay, cool,
we got the next great player here. That stigma. But I do believe
(01:03:51):
you can win ten games, maybenot twelve, and maybe not go I
think another quarterback and when they've provenit, Jimmy garopp they can win.
You can win. So can youstill without Purty? Probably, but I
still think Rock Perty's at the top, top three MVP guy. I don't
the numbers are going to change drasticallyin Dallas without Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush
to Trey Lance doesn't matter. Prescottis at times supremely disrespected. He just
(01:04:16):
is, and I know last yearhe earned it with the way he threw
it, But it feels like he'she's confident this year. They're playing good
football. I think the way thatMike McCarthy's calling plays fits him a little
bit better. And I don't think, I don't even know. I think
they'd struggle to finish in second placeif Prescott wasn't the quarterback in battle for
first I do. I think he'sa difference maker for them. Whether you
(01:04:36):
think he's you know, in JoshAllen or Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrows category,
that's not my point on that Cowboyteam, but the guy that if
you take him out, they sufferthe worst of those three teams, it's
Philadelphia with the way they run theball inside zone, read, outside zone,
play action RPO. He smoothed hiscommand, his poise. I think
(01:04:58):
that Philadelphia suffers the most. Theirroster's friggin loaded. But I'm just telling
you, you could put a backupquarterback in there and they ain't doing near
what they're doing with Hurts. Ithink they would suffer the most, even
though their roster is the best ofthe three and forty nine. He's got
a hell of a roster. Sothe Cowboys the Eagles may have the best
roster in football, but he enhancesthat roster. I think he may be
(01:05:19):
the MVP now with Purdy and Prescottin a battle, and then you got
two of mahomes, Hill and McCaffreyhanging around. Listen, as good as
Allen's been, he's throwing twenty plusWhat twenty touchdowns are more twenty four and
thirteen? That's too much touchdowns Interceptions, That's it. He's throwing more to
interceptions than a MVP would throw awhole season, let alone with six games
(01:05:40):
to go. Can't give them theMVP. He's a hell of a talent.
Can't give them the MVP. I'llgo with those guys, and I
think Hurts is just there's there's adifferent special I'll be shocked if he goes
his career without winning a Super Bowl. Absolutely shocked. That's how good.
I think he is, Yeah, and that that roster is loaded. They
(01:06:00):
have dudes up front that are fullgrown ass men and there's a lot of
them. Yeah, one comes out, another goes in. Jalen Carter is
going to be dominating people for fifteenyears. He's a monster. As long
as he stays hungry, you canforget it. He owns you in your
backfield. Yeah, he is abeast. He is a monster. Let's

head coach of their football program. We're gonna tak College FOOTBA at eight o'clock
this morning. So in a coupleof segments, we continue to talk about
the NFL. Some big games overthe holiday weekend. Sean, the Cowboys
(01:08:41):
dismantled, I mean they beat thebreaks off of who they play, Washing
Washington Commanders. There you go.I was about to call them the the
Redskins Commander sorry, or the Washingtonfootball team. Yeah. Forty five ten
was a yeah. Changes are comingthere to already have you know, Jacky
(01:09:02):
Jack del Rio's out, ye Jack, Yeah, And they may new ownership
group, the Magic Johnson's part ofthat as well, I believe, and
he is that group. Normally youwant your own guy in I like Ron.
But if they don't have more successthe last five six weeks, the
six weeks of the season, they'llprobably make a change there too. You
(01:09:23):
know, you could see changes happeningthere. Chicago Chargers again prove that that
changes I think has to happen there. Sean Payton's probably the coach of the
year right now considered, I meanhonestly, with their won five in a
row and Russ Wilson's playing. Herejuvenated Russ Wilson, who at times is
baffling and then other times he's beenand this year he's been really good.
(01:09:45):
And Sean after that slow start, has got them in a playoff just on
the outside looking in. So Iyeah, I with Dallas, the Cowboys
aren't going away. This is agood football team. Is are they going
to Cowboy in January? Remember theyhave not seen February since early to mid
(01:10:06):
nineties. It's been a long runfor them. They are primed and they
run it. They're physical, theirdefense is after it. If the quarterback
protects the football, they'll be inevery game. They are a dangerous team
because they can score from anywhere andtheir defense can get stops. And that's
a good combo. We're gonna findout just what kind of moxie Mike McCarthy
(01:10:26):
has in January, because the whilewhat are they nine and one now or
ten and one ten in one?The Eagles, Yes, ten and one,
and that's two game lead in theDivision. It's gonna be tough to
overcome that. Hell, I'm notsure how many teams are going to beat
the Eagles rest away this year.I'm not sure how many are going to
beat them. So you're looking atthirteen and four, fourteen and three,
type ten. Do you see themin the last six weeks losing four games
(01:10:50):
their schedule? Well, they gota big one, forty nine ers,
right, yeah, for at excuseme, where did it go? Yeah?
Excuse me? At home? Excuseme, my goodness, at home
against San Francisco, at Dallas,at Seattle, home against the Giants,
home against Arizona, and then atNew York. They got the Dallas game
(01:11:13):
will be difficult. This week willbe difficult, but they get it at
home. And then there's the thirdone, which is who at Seattle Seattle?
Which will be tough there, butthey should beat Seattle. Seattle's not
Seattle's not the same team that theywere last year, talented and capable of
winning. I would take Philadelphia thatone. There's let's say they lose two,
(01:11:33):
that gives them a fourteen and threerecord, and you're gonna have a
hard time beating them that So they'regoing to end up the one seed in
the NFC unless they just fall flaton their face, which isn't going to
happen. And so three of theirsix games, two of them are real
tough. One of them Seattle willbe kind of tough. They're going to
(01:11:53):
curb stop the other three teams,Arizona and the two New York's games,
and what the Giants twice is thatwhat it is? Yes, they're going
to curb stopped them. So that'sminimum of three and three, which gets
them to thirteen and four. AndI'll be shocked if they don't somehow beat
a cowboy Seattle. I'm gonna saythis team's fourteen and three, fifteen and
(01:12:15):
two. And if the game wasin San Francisco, different story. The
last time the forty nine ers wentto Philadelphia, they did it without a
first second quarterback, got the thirdin hell, finally got to the point
where, well, the rules changedin the offseason because of it. It'll
be different because you're gonna have fullfull health. I personally think it's a
preview. And while I'm not discountingthe Dallas Cowboys by any stretch of the
imagination, I think this is apreview next week of what you're gonna probably
(01:12:40):
see come NFC Championship weekend, andthen you look some of these other Thanksgiving
matchups. Green Bay took down Detroittwenty nine, twenty two. Detroit did
what they do. Detroit did whatthey do while you a lot of it
and then all of a sudden, what are you doing? They just got
to hope that one of those doesn'thappen. And the week before they had
(01:13:03):
a chance of that happening, andthey were able to, you know,
come back and beat Chicago. Imean, they've given two back to back
week's teams a chance to win.But that's who Detroit is. Now.
We're gonna find out just what kindof guts they have in January, because
they're going to win the division.I think Minnesota's not going away, but
Detroit's the best team in the division. So but that did not shock me
(01:13:25):
either. I mean that they weregoing to go out there. It's they
the question, I afer, Detroit, can you roll through three games in
the postseason to get to February anddominate like you do at times for four
quarters for three straight games in Januaryagainst those type teams because you don't get
any any average teams coming to you, and they play good at times against
(01:13:47):
really good teams, so they canscore. I just don't know if they're
ready, if that Prime times themjust yet they are close. I'm not
sure it's there, but I loveDan Campbell. They just ran into it,
got there, but handed to themover the weekend as well, by
a Jordan Love played great football. He had a hell of a game.
So listen, every quarterbacks capable. The question is in Detroit's capable too.
(01:14:10):
Can they sustain it for a goodrun through January? But it's not gonna
be easy getting through San Francisco andPhiladelphia and Dallas to get to that point.
Speaking of San Francisco, they manhandled Seattle in Seattle thirty one thirteen
and Chris McCaffrey continuing to just impressnineteen carries, one hundred and fourteen yards,
(01:14:31):
two touchdowns, Rock Purty taking careof the football twenty one to thirty
two hundred nine yards, one touchdown, not gaudy numbers, but yet he
did have one pick. But yethe does what he has to do and
he gets the job done and theycontinue to win. They are playing really
good football. They're impressive, man. Their defense is really good. Yeah,
and then you say, Okay,Siriani's becoming one of the best coaches
(01:14:54):
in the league. Kyle Shannon ithas a lot to prove in the postseason
because he's been to the Super Bowltwice once according once as a head coach,
end of the NFC Championship game, again as a head coach in San
Francisco. And while we're looking forplayers to step up, he has to
as well. He's gonna have totake his game to another level too for
us to mention, because he's agreat play caller, but somehow they come
(01:15:15):
up short. So Kyle Shanahan's there'ssome pressure on him to go do this.
Man, I'm not talking about jobpressure, but there's pressure on him
to go do this because our memoriesof him is like a player, his
best hasn't been in Super Bowls yetas a coordinator and or a head coach.
So but he is so good andthey've got such a dynamic, talented
(01:15:35):
squad, and they're precise in everythingthey do, and that running back is
McCaffrey's so frigging good and they canmove piles. So listen, look at
the three teams that you talk aboutthe NFC. What do they have in
common? Forty nine Ers, PhiladelphiaEagles, Dallas Cowboys. Both sides of
the ball have unique skill sets anda lot of them quarterbacks are MVP candidates.
(01:16:02):
They are aggressive but smart. Allthree teams can run it and throw
it. All three teams can getto the quarterback and the disrupt the passer
and so then it you know, what comes down to here is and it
appears to me that Prescott, Pertz, and Purdy all have big enough stones
to handle it. They've seen it. Even though Perdy's young, he got
(01:16:24):
a pretty good idea in those threeteams. Doesn't it simply come down to
about five to eight, six toeight plays in the game? Yep?
And that's what it'll come down towith those three teams. I don't think
your curb stomping any of the threein a round robin tournament. But they
all have that in common, andthey are extremely and they've all Another thing
(01:16:44):
they've all done is lost coordinators, lost coordinator from last year to this year
and are still clicking. Kellen Mooregone. Two coordinators are Philly gone.
Passing game coordinator and defensive coordinator gone. In San Francisco, what are they
retooled and done their thing. Justgoes to show you they got good quote
coaching, but they also have goodplayers that can overcome just about anything.
(01:17:06):
And it's gonna be one. Youshouldn't be shocked if any of the three
are sitting there in February. Butall three are, in my opinion,
the lead dogs in the NFC.I'll tell you what before we get to
break the most electric game yesterday theGiants and Patriots. Yeah sure, it
was ten to seven. New Englandmissed a game potential game time field goal
(01:17:27):
as time expired. They missed TommyDeVito lighting it up baby one ninety one
yards. Patriots are pathetic. Theysuck. They are not good, all
right? With the Texans losing tothe Jaguars, how does the AFC South
shape up? That's next on theSeawan Salisbury Show. We're gonna have to
turn this matter over to Sean OhNo more. Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk

people wanted to kill there's several somepeople wanted to fit in with the popular.
That was my problem. I wasin the dark room loud toombs,
looking to make a vowel zoom thatI'm gonna get doubling up my cup.
I see the crowd moved changing bythe minute, and the record over beat
the AFC South. After the Texanslose to the Jags, women die.
(01:18:40):
You have the Jags at eight andthree, four and one in the division,
the Indianapolis Colts at second, sixand five with a two and two
division record, Texans in third atsix and five with a one and two
division record, and then the Titansfour and seven, oh in two in
the division, Texans obviously splitting withthe Jags. Of this season remaining schedule
(01:19:08):
for the Texans, they don't playthe Colts until the final game of the
regular season. They've got the Broncosthis coming weekend. Broncos are hot right
now in the hunt for a playoffspot. Then they're at the Jets,
at the Titans, against the Brownshome against the Titans, and then at
the Colts. There's no guarantee thatthe Jaguars are going to continue to win
(01:19:33):
Obviously they're a pretty good team, but they've had some up and down times
this season. They've still got theBengals, the Browns, the Ravens,
the Bucks, the Panthers, theTitans so well. I mean, they
got pretty pretty easy schedule games infront. I think it's gonna be very
(01:19:53):
Yesterday was paramount if you wanted towin the division. Of course it's still
in play. But while Jacksonville's gotto win, so to the Texans.
Correct, Texans still have to win. And you say, did you say
the Texans played Denver this coming weekend? Yeah, that's right, Okay,
I was thinking two weeks this weekend. This is a Denver team that at
the beginning of the year or abouta month and we just said Texans are
(01:20:13):
better than them. Right now, this is a this is a different team
than you saw, damn near twomonths ago. This is a different team.
So to me, now, witha two game lead and six games
to go, I think it's aheavy favorite to win the Division's Jacksonville,
(01:20:34):
now, you're just in a battle. Go take care of your business.
Don't worry about what Jacksonville does.Someone's gonna beat him. The're not winning
six more in a row. Butyou got what you can't do is let
a Colts team or you know, will Levice beat you in a football game
between now and then? You justcan't. And they got the Jacksonville part
(01:20:58):
of it out of the way. They got well, one more against Tennessee
and one more against the Colts too, correct, And they've got two against
Tennessee, one played Tennessee. That'sthree denvers four. And then they also
have who do we have in thefinal five and six with the last two
games again and not the last twoon the schedule, but we had two
with the Tennessee. They have playedTennessee yet. Yeah, so you got
(01:21:19):
the Broncos this coming weekend, Coltsat the Jets that they're going to beat,
the Jets, at the Titans righthome against the Browns on Christmas.
Then the Titans and the Colts,I would listen. As good as the
Browns can be, and they've gottalent, the Texans should win that game
(01:21:39):
here, right, so we'll seeit's it's here, right, you said
the Browns they play here? Correct? Yeah? Christmas? Yeah, that's
right. Let's say they win threenine eight, hell of a season.
May not be good enough, gogo go win for get the ten and
(01:22:00):
then I'll take my chances. You'dlove to win the division, but two
game lead in the division and you'vesplit with them. They'd have to play
some awful bad football with their schedule, meaning Jacksonville for them to squander two
games, and the Texans go winsix in a row and Jacksonville, you
know, goes three and three.Of course there's a chance, but I
don't think right now. The divisionis year. It was a whole.
(01:22:23):
It's amazing what one game does wellone drive right, think about how the
narrative shifts from oh now he broughthim back again, he's in the MVP
talk meaning C J. Stroud. Now they're seven and you know, seven
and four as opposed to six andfive, and they are in first place
because they beat Jacksonville twice. Nowwe're a different narrative. Now it's just
a sprint to the finish. Uverse them match them win for winning,
(01:22:45):
you go in. So it thenthree is getting you in. So it's
Jacksonville's the team. Now that youprobably aren't worried about them in the division.
You just got to go play andlet it take care of business.
But the key is get in nomatter how you can. Yeah, you
look at the Broncos who are comingto town. They beat the Packers,
then they beat the Chiefs, thenthey beat the Bills, then they beat
(01:23:08):
the Vikings, then they beat theBrowns and some good teams, and they're
playing really solid defense and Russ Wilson'sactually making some some big place. This
looks like they've got Sean Payton's confidenceand stamp all over them. It's impressive
to see a whole different ballgame thantwo months ago. It is. And
I if I'm picking today, Denvershould be favored in the game. I
(01:23:31):
would, I would, I wouldfavor If I was a gambler, I'd
pick Denver as the favorite, butlike two and a half points and an
early yeah, under three and ahalf. It's three right now, Okay,
there you go, Denver plus threeover under forty five. There plus
three, Denvers plus three. Ohsee, I would, I would.
I would have the Bronxos coming.I wouldn't give me the Broncos all day
(01:23:54):
today, not to win. Butthat spread looks awfully tempting from with the
way the Broncos are playing. Butyou cannot discount they're gonna have to cover
better on the back end, andyou're gonna have to get a little help
from some referees, you know, sharpening their game. But get back to
running the ball like you did theprevious two weeks. But and protect your
(01:24:15):
quarter because they're gonna come after himnow. I'm just telling you they're gonna
come after him, but they've beenplaying good football. I'm keeping an eye
on that line of which way itgoes, and you'll get an idea as
we move closer where the money's flowing. I'm not sure a field goal.
Maybe because it's home, they're givinghim an automatic three points and you usually
get that. It's basically a pickhim game. Denver's playing pretty freaking good
(01:24:35):
football right now, and you gotto protect your quarterback next week. Russ
Wilson throwing for twenty touchdowns only fourinterceptions, and yet we're not even mentioning
him in the MVP talk. Maybewe're so stunned after what happened last year.
If they go on to make theplayoffs, he's staring and he can't
win. He's not gonna win ComebackPlayer the Year because he was healthy all
year. Right, But you canmake an argument for x's and o's in
(01:24:57):
the way he's changed that. You'dhave to con hitter him the biggest improvement
from one year to the next fora guy who was a star at one
point. Yeah, and then youlook at everything that Sean Payton's done to
come in and kind of turn aroundthat organization and especially on the field,
and the best thing that he's doingfor Russ Wilson and and that squad is
he's letting Russ cook. Yeah,he is. I mean that that's part
of the job description. Rusk's Russcook one of the most important. Let
(01:25:21):
Russ cook. On Sean Payton's resume, it's the first thing he wrote,
not even his name, it's SeanPayton. I will let Russ cook.
He's cooking. And four the Walmartfamily, right, don't they own the
Broncos. What's their names? Walmarts? No, the Waltons, the Walmart's
the Waltons. Yeah, the Waltonssaid, Oh wow, Sean Payton's gonna
let him cook. We got tohire him. Yeah. Well, that's
(01:25:42):
the key. You say, lethim cook whenever Russ's names Actually, you
say let Russ cook. That thatgives you the inside of the job.
And then you gotta let him cook, right. Have you noticed that there's
like he hasn't really had the cheesypostgame pressers and cheesy on the field interviews.
This is not like what happened. It's not coincidence. Well, first
off, off your day job,if you suck at it, yep,
(01:26:02):
those commercials, nobody wants to eatyour friggin sandwich. Okay, So what
happens is, yeah, So whathappens is you come back and you're good
at your job because you're focused onthat. You're not worried about being a
celebrity. You're focused on football.Realize your ass is going to be sucking
buttermilk if you don't get better, because Sean Payton will play and you're playing
better, and it's a big differencein their win streak. I can tell
you this. Also, remember thefirst two weeks of the season, the
(01:26:25):
Denver Broncos were laughed at. Matterof fact, people were saying, this
isn't hack, it's fault. SeanPayton's just as bad. Look at they
they gave up seventy did they notto the Miami Dolphins did? Yeah?
Yeah, Now look eerily similar tothe Giants who went on after two straight
losses, gave up almost ninety pointsor whatever. Early in the season one
of their Super Bowl runs I thinkit was the same maybe two thousand and
(01:26:47):
seven season maybe, and then theywent on they lost their first two and
everybody in the world was what now, maybe it was gosh, what was
their first Super Bowl win? Whatyear was it? Thee not with Phil
some talking about with Eli what yearwas it? Uh? New York because
they went on a two thousand andeight I believe, right was that the
(01:27:08):
eight Super Bowl seven season? Thathad to be it? Right? I
believe it was two thousand and eightSuper Bowl two thousand and seven season.
What were their first two games? And let me get down, get that
up. We come in during thebreak, because if I'm not mistaken,
they went oh and two. AntonioPierce was on that team, and they
(01:27:28):
got curb stopped, give up ninetypoints or something. First two games,
went on a roll end up.I think it was the same year went
on winn a Super Bowl. I'mnot saying Denver's going to do it,
but yeah it was. Uh,let's see in two thousand and eight the
Giants beat the Patriots seventeen fourteen. That was the Patriots undefeated season. Correct.
Yeah, and then what dude, does this have the log of who
the first two games were. Yeah, I'll get that. Okay, during
(01:27:48):
the break, you got it.Yeah. Let's get into the eight o'clock
hour and let's start looking at collegefootball. The conference championship games are lined

set to hire a new head coachfor the football team. That's Mike Elko,
former head coach of Duke. TheDynamo headed to the West Conference Final
in MLS Action. Let's talk collegefootball? Oh real quick, let me
(01:29:36):
play off your New York Giants. In two thousand and seven. Two thousand
and eight, they won the SuperBowl. They started that regular season going
zero to two, losing at theDallas Cowboys forty five thirty five and then
to the Green Bay Packers at homethirty five thirteen. They rattled off one,
two, three, four, fivesix wins in a row. They
(01:29:56):
lost one game on the road thatseason one on the went on the road
in the playoffs, took care oftheir business and they gave up eighty points
the first two games and everybody laughedat them, and then they went on
the road and took care of theirbusiness and then beat the undefeated team having
the best season they've ever had.Yes, it can happen. Hot matters,
(01:30:23):
getting rolling at the right time matters. Your quarterback playing well matters,
and a smart coach matters. Theygot all that right now. Twenty and
four puts you into Pro Bowl asa quarterback. Not that that matters,
but he has been rejuvenated and SeanPayton deserves a lot of credit for this
offense doing some things they need todo, But it's the defense that'll keep
(01:30:43):
them hanging around against Kansas City.Really is so get college football. Start
with the big one. Michigan takesdown Ohio State at the Big House.
Really in the second half. Imean, Sean, you and I had
some action, if you will onthat game, and Michigan did what they
(01:31:06):
had to do. They take careof business. Ohio State couldn't figure out
a way to win. So that'sgonna thrust Michigan into the Big Ten Championship
against Iowa. They won that game. Michigan won thirty to twenty four.
Excuse me, I'm gonna tell youand you know what's odd. It's not
a good chance because I don't thinkOhio State's gonna do anything. But you
(01:31:30):
could be in a situation what ifWhat if the Ohio State Big Boys decided
eleven wins isn't good enough. Ifwe're not getting to the Final four again,
you can't consider moving on from him, can you? Because of the
big game, they haven't been theydon't beat top five teams very often Ohio
State I'm talking about. Yeah,I think Ryan Days a good coach.
(01:31:53):
There's no way you can move onfrom him, can you. He can't
straight losses to Michigan, he can'tever beat he can't ever win the big
one, top five te' that's mypoint. Would they consider doing it?
I wouldn't. I think we getrid of coaches too soon. But that's
how impatient it is. I guaranteeyou'll hear some banter about that and Michigan.
The NC two A reserves are right, they can come in and suspend
(01:32:14):
him even more. A lot ofpeople think he is going to start the
season off suspended in twenty twenty four. If your Jim Harbaugh with five or
six these coming up, are youjust tired of the hassel and say you
know what, enough of this.I'm moving on if all that happens.
So two eleven and zero teams thatwent on the winner going to the final
four, and that'll be Michigan, both with really good coaches, but both
with coaches that can't quite win thatone national title game right now, right
(01:32:39):
or what it takes. Yet,Ohio State with Ryan Day ran into Georgia
with CJ. Stroud and that yousaw that game, and then you also
Michigan. You know, you runinto some good teams, You're going to
run into the Georgias and Alabama's alongthe way as well. Both are well
coached and both may have both coachesback. So that was a physical game.
(01:32:59):
I think the better team won.I think Michigan's the better team.
I do going in we picked Ithink Michigan is the better team and they're
going to be legit excuse me,in this final four. But getting to
that right now, who's forget who'splaying. I want you to tell me
who the four best teams in collegefootball are in your mind right now?
Yes, Georgia the way they're playingtoday, Georgia, Michigan, oh Man,
(01:33:30):
the way they're playing The State isnot out out for me, right.
I think the way that Oregon's playing, I think they're one of the
top four teams. But I alsohave to throw in Texas too. But
then, and the way that Alabamahad no business winning that game the other
night, no business winning it.Auburn choked that away. If you have
no business winning it and you winit, what is that? Teams?
(01:33:53):
They're good? Right? And nowthink about the narrative. If Texans win
a game like that, we're sayinggood teams find a way to win,
right, Yeah, and we givecredit. Shouldn't we give Nick Saban the
same credit. I still don't thinkthat they're I mean, I know they're
good. Yeah, you gotta givethey're one of the top four teams in
the country right now, and Imean not on the rankings. If we
(01:34:13):
had a round robin, are theygoing to get to the final four?
I think the four best teams inAmerica right now, I think they are.
I think they would be right there. I think it's Georgia, Michigan,
Oregon, Texas, Alabama. Thoseare my top five. Okay,
I think Alabama beats Georgia. Weknow Alabama's in. I still don't see
(01:34:35):
how you're leaving Georgia out with oneloss. To me, right now,
the teams playing the best are Oregan'splaying great football right now. You may
not like him in the final four, and I don't want to hear anybody
talk to me about that their scheduleis not good or that they didn't beat
a team by sixty I don't.Oregon's a good football team and they're going
(01:34:57):
to give Washington all they can frigginhandle. Matter of fact, I think,
well, I think Oregon should befavored Washington. Washington does not look
good. They're not as crisp throwingthe ball and doing the things they want
to do. I think I actuallythink Organ's beating them. I think I
do, and if they do,they're going to the Final four. Oregon,
Yes, if they beat Washington.I think that I'm talking about from
(01:35:19):
committee standpoint now, not yours committee. To me, the best team in
America is Georgia the I I actuallythink Michigan's the second best team in America
right now. I think we couldsay that about them, and then it
comes down to about four teams fortwo spots. To me, how it's
going to end up, I think, And kudos to Kentucky for taking care
(01:35:43):
of Louisville. Louisville has still gota chance. Now, if you're Florida
State, you know what you wantedLouisville to win last week because you're going
to get a Brom's gonna have themready to go, and you still don't
have your quarterback. And Florida Stategutted one out right now, to me,
the way it sits before championship, can gimme Texas, give me Oregon,
gimme Michigan, gimme Georgia. That'sthe final four yea in my opinion,
(01:36:05):
Florida State, I think that allfour teams on a neutral site are
favored and beat Florida. And Ithink Alabama's favored over Florida State and beats
them as well. I agree,And the quarterback has to come into play,
and this is no disrespect to them. I just don't. I don't
think the ACC is that good thisyear, and I don't think Florida State
without their quarterbacks that explosive they gotby. I don't think you get by
(01:36:28):
against Alabama or Georgia, or Texasor Oregon, hell, probably not even
Washington to me right today, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, and Michigan are
your four best teams. And Ithink, okay, if we say who
we think is going to win,I think Georgia is going to beat Alabama,
(01:36:48):
which Alabama's done this year. IfGeorgia beats him, Texas takes care
of Oklahoma State on a big comebackwin and staving off BYU, then they
should win. They're going to beten point favorites at least. I think
they got to be a touchdown fieldgoal favorite. It is still Oklahoma State.
(01:37:10):
Matter of fact, I'd have beena little more nervous of Oklahoma's GYU
was beating them. I'm thought, man, if you're Texas, I think
you'd probably rather have Oklahoma State. That's just my opinion. So you got
that game that they'll win. Well. I think Oregon is going to be
Washington, and I think that FloridaState, even if Florida State goes undefeated,
(01:37:31):
I can't. I can't put themin if everything turns away. We
said if Georgia wins, Texas wins, Oregon wins, and Michigan, Florida
State can't go among those four teams. And I think that Oregon beats Florida
State by two touchdowns. Or more, and I think Texas does as well,
So the committee's got a lot toThe key here is if in fact,
(01:37:54):
Washington beats Oregon and stays undefeated, you know they're going. But if
Alabama beats Georgia, then what thenwhat you're begging? First off, you're
Texas, you just got to takecare of what you do. But you
are begging because you know what, you don't want to leave the decision up
to a committee. If you're Texasand Oregon and Florida State, all three
of you are saying, please Georgiabeat Alabama because we know Georgia is the
(01:38:18):
winner of the SEC is going ifAlabama wins. The problem is that Alabama
wins, you may get too becauseI still think even if Alabama beat Georgia
on a walk off, I wouldnot pick anybody over Georgia, and in
a betting point spread of any ofthe teams in the final four or five
or six teams, I wouldn't doit. Everybody should be begging for Georgia
twin and then you go from there, especially if you're the Texas, Oregon,
(01:38:41):
Florida State. Hell, I'm notsure. It doesn't mean you need
a whole lot to. I don'tthink Florida State, even if they're undefeated,
ghost dude. As long as theteams that we just said win,
I don't think they're going because Idon't think they're I don't think they're I
don't think they're a final four team. They're not deserving of it right as
far as how good they are,and if you'll lost your quarterback, that
has to come into player your decisionmaking. Well, that's why you have
(01:39:03):
a committee now, because it's humanelement. Now, that's not the BCS.
I'm not into a computer right, that's out out of the question.
I got a lot of respect forwhat Mike Norvel's done, but I got
news for you. I think they'regetting left out because I think Oregon,
Texas, Michigan, and Georgia willgive you a much better chance to win
a national title. Let's continue thisdiscussion about the College of Football playoffs and
how these conference title games are goingto come into play when it comes to
(01:39:26):
those final four spots. That's nexton the Shawn Salisbury Show. The free

Sewan, Brian and Tripoli Texans fallinto the Jags. Yesterday at NRG
Stadium, the Dynamo headed to theWest Conference Final. They beat Sporting Casey
last night at Shell Energy Stadium, they win one nil. Texas A and
M set to hire Mike Elko astheir next head coach for the football program.
(01:40:56):
One of the things that I wantto discuss Sean is strength of schedule.
So let's just say I don't know. Alabama beats Georgia in the SEC
Championship. You can make a casefor Georgia and Alabama both to go to
the college football Playoff. Well,a lot of people keep discussing if it
came down to it, who isgoing to go? Could it be organ
(01:41:17):
could it be Texas? If bothtake care business in their respective conference championship
games? So strength the schedule herethis according to the AP, so Ohio
State has the sixth toughest strength toschedule Texas number thirteen, Alabama, number
thirty one, Oregon all the waydown at sixty two. Where does strength
(01:41:40):
the schedule in your mind play afactor when it comes to this committee?
Well, I think it matters.I think it matters. Yet here's the
irony of it. For the mostof the season, what will we crown
and the people across the country. Is the number one conference in college football?
Pac twelve? It's all the ringteams? Yeah, so they rolled
(01:42:02):
through those. Maybe it's their nonconference that they've had, or the team
when they played them had come offa loss or a drop in the STAN
I mean, I know their schedule. I mean i'd have to go,
we'd have to go through it.I mean, you go through and who
they've played, But I don't know. Okay, So if we mark them
down for strength to schedule, thenI guess we better put Ohio State still
(01:42:26):
in the lost They've only lost one, yeah, just off a strength to
schedule. They've only lost once. They're only they're playing and they're going to
be playing in a New Year's Daygame. See. But then then my
next question is going to be Okay, so let's look at big time wins.
I'm just looking at Texas and Oregon. But I get where you're saying,
wor Ohio State, Beau. Ifyou're look at strengths schedule, then
Ohio State is a one loss team. They've got a better strength of schedule
than both Oregon and Texas. Butwhen it comes down because this could be
(01:42:49):
when it comes down to it,this could be the two that one of
them is going to get left out, Oregon or Texas. Texas beat Alabama,
we know that in Tuscaloosa by ten. Oregon beat Texas Tech thirty eight
thirty and you saw what Texas didTexas Tech a couple of days ago.
They beat the brakes off of them. All right, So are we taking
into does the score matter that muchto you? I mean, yeah,
(01:43:10):
we've I mean I think in thecommittee's eyes, Yeah, not me,
I'm talking committee right, texas bestwin is number eight Alabama. Orgon's best
win is number twenty four Oregon State. But they have they still got to
play Washington. I'm just talking aboutthis, this matchup here, meaning Oregon
in Texas with the committee, notus, not you and I the committee.
Now, then let's talk about wherethey were ranked. Give me,
(01:43:33):
do you have Texas's schedule front ofit? I can get that right real
quick. Okay, who have theybeat? I'm just thinking from a committee
standpoint. I've already told you Ithink Texas is a final fourteen. Yeah,
so they've They beat Alabama when theywere number three, and then they
beat Rice Alabama. That was weektwo of the season, right, correct?
And what did did they? Theyhad mil Rose their quarterback. They
changed the next week. Okay, all right, So, and if you're
(01:43:56):
gonna take strength to schedule or orhow bad you beat somebody by, for
instance, let's say both teams. But let's say Alabama and Georgia, or
let's say Oregon in Alabama both playeda non conference game and they won.
They beat a team by both oneby forty four and the other one by
(01:44:17):
fifty four. Because they kept theirstarters in longer. Should we reward the
team and one by fifty four morethan the forty four team? No,
that's not will No, right,I think it played so to me,
the Oregon Texas Tech thing got himon the right day, bears has the
score of the game has zero impacton me. Now, if you kick
three field goals, turn it overfour times, referee made a bad called
(01:44:40):
controversial call, you should have lostit. But if he won by five
or one by fifteen, I personallydon't care. Because the truth is Texas
is better now and Oregon's better nowthan the last time they played Texas Tech.
So you take that into account. But I believe text in the final
four? So Texas all right? So Oregans? Yeah, so I'm looking
at Texas. Texas. They beatAlabama in the second week. They were
huge win, got him at theright time as well. They beat Kansas
(01:45:01):
when they are number twenty four, they lose to number twelve Oklahoma. They
beat number twenty three Kansas State, and then they are getting ready to play
Oklahma State. Whres nuberween? Okay? So right, okay, so who's
in your mind Kansas State and Arizona. I'm just using PAC twelve who who.
Okay, do you actually think theBig twelve is better football this year
(01:45:24):
than the Pac twelve this year?Yeah? No, I'm talking about this
year, this only year that mattersright now? Correct? Correct? Yeah
no, So that's that's the we'relooking at this, Remember from who we're
from the standpoint of we're looking atthis from the standpoint of the committee,
right correct? Yeah? Not us, No, not us. I tell
you who. If we picking today, it's Texas, Georgia, Oregon,
(01:45:47):
and Michigan. But the way Alabama'splaying is dangerous. Alabama can win the
whole thing. I don't think they'rebeating Georgia, but they are capable with
the way they're playing, and theydid not play great football this past weekend.
So but it isn't rivalry game,so I get it. Oregon beat
number nineteen Colorado. The time Coloradowas right, Colorado was the talk of
(01:46:09):
the country, and we saw whathappened to them. So let's not Colorado.
As we said at the beginning ofthis. Matter of fact, I
picked them for five wins this year. In August, they got to what
four four their four to eight,so they weren't even as good. And
we said to depth is gonna bea problem. They caught the world by
start, and they caught an averageTCU team in game one, and what
Dion's done is nothing short of phenomenal. But let's slow our role on how
(01:46:31):
big a win is because that Coloradowin by Oregon ain't that big a deal.
And a win over Texas Tech rightnow by either of these teams ain't
that big a deal because Texas Tech'snot very good. No, they're not
good. They're not. So thenyou continue to look, they beat there,
they lost to Washington obviously late late. Should have won that game.
They gave Washington a chance late. Then they beat they manhandled Utah, number
(01:46:55):
thirteen in the country at the time, and they just beat Organ State when
they or was that game too,It was in Utah, it was in
Provo. It's exact, no,sorry, salt like city. Provo is
ill BYU. Yeah, uh so, And then they just beat number sixteen
Oregon State. And now their coachis going to Michigan State. Yeah,
and he actually played quarterback at OregonState. So you see, the point
(01:47:16):
is so really one two, three, three ranked wins for Texas and a
ranked loss for Oregon. Three rankedwins and a ranked loss right, So
that's why. So when you startto look at it different of who they
were and where they are, you'regoing to get the committee that's also going
(01:47:36):
to give you this. And it'sunfair to Texas because Alabama was ranked third
in the country. They went inand kicked their ass. You're going to
get the committee says, yeah, but you got them at the right time.
Nicks turned it around Milrow, theyfinally found their quarterback. They're better
now. I'm just telling you whatthe committee is gonna say to me.
(01:47:58):
The team that's out is Florida State. Yeah, I agree, the team
that's disruptive if they lose. Ipersonally, I'm not sure I can keep
Georgia out of this because even witha loss, I actually think you'd piss
them off and they could go andwin the whole thing. I'm having a
hard time George is going over FloridaState. Even if Georgia loses this week.
(01:48:18):
That for me. Now it comesto Oregon, Texas, Washington,
the Alabama Georgia thing. Michigan andGeorgia with a win are in. I
think Washington at thirteen and Er witha win in a pac twelve Championship against
Oregon. Washington's a stone cold lead, pipelock, even though they're not playing
(01:48:40):
better than a few of these otherteams that are Alabama's playing better than Washington
is right now. So the pointis is that if Oregon wins, there
are still some that are going towant to keep organ out with one loss
and win in the Pac twelve.I get it, But they're playing such
good football right now. So yousee how you see how this commit he's
going to look at this. Idon't see how if Oregon curb stomps Oklahoma
(01:49:02):
State, I mean, if Texascurb stomps Oklahoma State, how somehow,
someway we're not fitting them in asthe fourth team even if Georgia goes in
or the third team, even ifGeorgia goes in after a loss. Then
it comes down to winner of thePac twelve and Florida State, correct,
(01:49:23):
because you get Michigan Texas and ifGeorgia wins Georgeorgia, it's where if Alabama
wins, another team jumps to theframe that team is the number one ranked
team in the country right now thatI don't see how you're leaving out in
a close game because They're not gettingblown out by Alabama. You need to
know that. Now, if theylose by a field goal, I'm going
to guess today that Georgia is stillgoing to the Final four with a loss.
(01:49:45):
I think george is in regardless.I may be wrong judging from the
committee, I think Georgia in regardsand I'm not so they'll be the four
seed because they got one loss tothe three seed. But I'm telling you
another thing. Most of the countrywill have them the favorite to in the
whole thing. And you know what, the whole wild card through all of
this is gonna be in the aCEC. It's going to be Florida State
versus Louisville. In that a SECtitle game like it, Louisville eliminates Florida
(01:50:11):
State. Now it comes down to, honestly Oregon or Washington. Probably Oregon
because if Washington wins, they arein right undefeated PAC twelve chamber. They're
going and it come down to Texasand Georgia. If Alabama wins, if
Louisville takes care of their business againstFlorida State, Texas and Georgia, it's
gonna come down to a one lossone of one loss of each and I'll
(01:50:32):
bet you the committee takes Georgia,I'll bet you. And that's not fair
to Texas. But nobody said thatcommittee's fair anyway. They're got their they
their rooting for Georgia, and youand I both know it. Hey,
let's look at what's going on withTexas A and and what happened. They
were set to hire Mark Stoops astheir head coach, but he's not going

me. You haven't got some interestingsuit choices these days for some of these
analysts. Sean Well, though, the one I saw over the weekend,
I can't find it where where itwas a Sam Emmanuel It was Emmanual Ocho.
I think which one see the Foxone or the s fanel annual Oo.
(01:53:40):
I don't even know. I thinkhe's the I think he's I know
there Texas. Emmanuel Acho is ananalyst for Fox Fox. That's him Okay,
Yeah, he was on the setwith Chris Peterson, and I think
it was it Mike Hill. Whoelse would know somebody else was on the
set. I can't make Maybe itwas Mike Hill, it was I was,
And I do it tongue in cheek, laugh because I really don't care
(01:54:00):
what he wears. But what adistraction to try and listen to what he
said. I'm talking about. Itwas yellow? Head to tell it was?
I couldn't. It was yellow. It was yellow, it was it
was. It was bright yellow, more yellow than your ripest banana, more
yellow than your ripest taxi, moreyellow than than than then the line that
goes, well, that's kind oforange. What's that line that we put
(01:54:21):
on the football fields that orange areyellow? It's yellow yellow, more yellow
than that, more yellow than then. What's the yellowest thing? Then?
A when you yearnate and you're nothydrated, that's awfully yellow? Right?
Yeah, I mean it was,Okay, French is mustard yellow? Is
(01:54:42):
that yellow enough for you? Canyou not find it? No? I
can't know why it was, AndI'm doing it kind of joking. But
he's a smart guy. Books he'sa brilliant guy and a good analyst.
Hot takesh at times. But Icouldn't remember what he said over the weekend
because I was so focused on ahot dog with french Is mustard on it,
but he was wearing it on theset. I can't find it anywhere.
(01:55:05):
I don't. I don't know howthat's not a viral me or like,
did you really that wasn't it?Though? That that's not the look
I've seen some suits that was.I don't whoever that designer is, don't
call me because I don't need thatyellow suit. Okay, I can't find
it, man, dang it.It would have been a good costume.
(01:55:26):
It was. It's not good andanybody that saw it had that. You
couldn't no matter even if you likecolorful and I do. I like a
little color, add a little, you know, I like a pink shirt
with a navy suit, and allthat that yellow suit was was whoa for
a guy who like That's why ittook away. It's like that guy who
wears like like stripes and and youknow, vertical stripes and horizontal stripes in
(01:55:48):
the same outfit. It's like that. You can't get away with that.
Dude. Don't do that. Idon't even know what you're saying, because
the suit side with suit is sothis one was so loud. It was
like it was like extra ten toyellow coming off on the other guy's faces.
Because French is mustard. They shouldhave had product placement right there,
just right frenches on the front ofit. You'd have had the suit covered.
(01:56:09):
Yeah. Not good, but he'sa good analyst. It just took
away. It took away from hisverbiage. He's got some good things.
Tod like idiots. Well, hehe sometimes gets a bit hot takeish for
me, a bit come on,what do you always say? You're you're
a nicer gentler. I wouldn't saysome of the things he says. That's
(01:56:32):
okay, it's his opinion. I'mnot trying to tell him what to say.
My whole point is, if yougot a lot of good to say,
don't wear a suit like that, because then I never hear it because
I have no idea. And yousay, Sean, what did he talk
about over the weekend? I havezero idea, but I do know what
suit he had on. And itwas louder. The suit almost broke my
ear drums. And it wasn't eventalking. There you go joking, right,
(01:56:57):
No, nobody want to wear thatsuit. It was awful. Make
sure it was awful. You canbe you could be a person that likes
to take chances. That ain't takinga chance. Dude, you see my
gambling history. Yeah, well yourgambling history has got a better chance of
hitting than that well suit. Let'shope so I might get in some action
for money night football. I gottamake up these losses. Well, see,
there's your first problems. Don't chasechasing money, chasing money, I'm
(01:57:18):
saying again, like I'm saying itlike I lost. No, I can't
believe you haven't seen that suit. Can't afford that he's Let's go out to
the phone line seven one three twoone two five SEVENY talk about the playoffs
here, Let's go to queue Q. What's going on? What's going on
with what's happening? Say man,y'all shows hilarious, y'all, y'all,
(01:57:43):
y'all my favorite by far. ButI got a little scenario. But i'd
like to put out there for y'all, and i'd like y'all to figure it
out and maybe tomorrow something. Listeningto it, it's a it's a travesty
that you have so many teams thatare equally matched and maybe a team like
Ohio State that just lost for youknow, a good close game to Michigan
(01:58:06):
and cases that got just one goodloss and they have to fight just to
get in the tournament. Where ifthey had like two brackets of four and
uh you put a one against anage or three against a six and one
back at the other back of two, seven, four or five, and
(01:58:27):
if you had kickses at eight orOhio stated eight playing a number one Georgia.
Man, that's that's a dream tome. But what it would do,
he would give the committee one job, find the eight best teams,
put them in their brackets, andthen they threw with it. All we
gonna do is see three good roundsof football and the best man standing and
(01:58:47):
gonna win the tournament. Period.Appreciate it you and thank you for that
compliment. Well, yeah, wereally appreciate the compliment. You're gonna get
that wish, just not this year. You're You're gonna get more teams to
get a chance to play. You'rejust not going to get it this year.
Or so, Yes, if you'reFlorida State and you don't get in,
and you're undefeated and you beat Louisville, you have a major gripe.
(01:59:09):
You do. I understand their plight, and they should they it should be
allowed a lowed gripe. But Idon't think they're gonna get in. That's
just me unless all hell breaks loosearound them. If you're Texas and you
get snubbed, you have a majorgripe. If you're the Pac twelve winner,
(01:59:30):
you have a major gripe. Orgonna Washington, Washington's going if they're
undefeated. Matter of fact, ifboth Washington and Florida State are undefeated,
it came down to those two teams. Why Florida State's the odd man out
and all this? I believe,I don't know how you're gonna pound the
table. I mean, they deserveto have the table powderful. I don't
know how you pound the table forthem more than anybody else, they be
the underdog, and every team theyplayed in the top eight, Florida State
(01:59:53):
would be the underdog. Ohio Statewould be favored over Florida State right now.
They state. In my opinion,if they win, they're not going.
They shouldn't be there. I wouldagree that they do have an argument.
Can you imagine going in if MikeNorvel told his team, guys,
if we get to thirteen and zeroin the ACC this year, you'll you'll
(02:00:15):
be able to have all your dreamscome true, an opportunity to be in
the final four. And then he'sgonna have to turn back to them and
say, sorry, I don't know, I don't I don't know what the
I don't know what the how wecan do this or what I can say
to you guys, but you earneda chance to be playing in this They
will have a gripe, although we'lllisten to it, and I'm all for
in Tallahassee got to be screaming atthe high heavens if they were able to
get there after losing that that's evena better argument. Yeah, you you
(02:00:40):
lose, and then you've got towin your last game of the season against
what Florida, right, and thenyou've got to go win the conference championship.
You've got to be the hot Louisvilleteam that's played great football this year,
and you go to the finals.I mean, you win and get
it all on third jail. Andthe last two games you've won with the
pressure of having to win, andyou don't have your starting quarterback who's been
a high been type Canada all yearlong, don't they deserve to have at
(02:01:02):
least somebody rally around them and say, doesn't that prove that they're a better
team than just their quarterback? Thatsomebody else stepped up. That makes the
argument. But in truth, they'renot going to be They wouldn't be favored
against Texas, Ohio, State,Washington, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia,
Michigan. Like I said, ut, I think they're going to be the
one out the whole thing that's goingto muddy this if everybody wins except Georgia.
(02:01:27):
Now you're in, I'll tell youwhat what else muddy it? Which
which would be a trip if iowallpulled off a thirteen to ten win against
Michigan, if they pulled one outof their rear end and won this game.
There's no way though, No,they're not going no, no,
I know that had no shot.I'm just saying there's no way they win.
Well, dude, their offense isa trois. Dude, It's it's
(02:01:48):
just that I don't I mean,it's as bad as you'll ever see.
It is horrible. What if theypulled this off though got a defensive score,
then what do you do? Imean what we don't even want to
get in that conversation. There's nofrigging way. But I'm just telling what
if Kirk Faris's team did pull thisoff, Now nobody from the Big ten's
in. Yeah, they're both outyees, then what well two SEC teams
(02:02:10):
or if Alabama wins, two arein guaranteed, Florida State is still out,
Texas and Washington that that that that'syour final four? Wow? In
my opinion, if Washington beats Oregon, you know, if they win,
or if Oregon beats Washington, theTexas, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia could
But if George, I can't seeit. I was so bad. They're
(02:02:32):
not golf. But if they pulledthis off after you know all the emotion
of Ohio State Michigan. Can youimagine though? But if Georgia loses and
everything else goes as normal, you'regonna hate the delay because it's gonna be
nasty. In then the Heisman Trophy. Did James Daniels sew it up or
(02:02:53):
Nick put his on there too?Literally? I was just gonna tease.
Next segment, we're gonna discuss, after a big weekend of some rivalry matchups,
who is the leading Canada to winthe Heisman Trophy in college football.

That is, you showed it tome. Chris Gordy sent me the
picture as well. Dude, thatis okay, So you're the boss one
of the worst suits I've ever heyou're the boss on that set. I'm
saying, go home, right, got you? No, I'm saying you're
not wearing that. You are notwearing that. It's that bad. You
(02:04:48):
are not You're not. I mean, it is that bad. And me
and you were discussing it if that'smy teammate or my my my coworker,
however you want to put it andhe's go back and take that off.
Too many things, just you gottoo much good to say. Don't let
that disrupt your flow. What areyou? What are you wearing? He's
wearing a mustard colored suit with amatching mustard yellow turtleneck. Right, Who
(02:05:12):
the hell let him wear that?Apparently, somebody at Fox thought he's not
Craig Sager. Can you imagine Canyou imagine though, getting up in the
morning and putting that on and sayingto yourself, man, look at yoursel
I look good. Throw a littlelittle smell good on. Got your stuff
like tightened up? Probably tighten yoursides up a little bit, you know
with the clippers, Like I dosomething around here, you just put you
(02:05:33):
tighten it up. Hey, well, let me see. Okay, there's
this suit, a nice little color. Got some yellow in my tie.
I'm gonna wear a black jacket yellowin my tie, but you know,
or I got this or a littlenavy little pinstripe. You know. Oh
man, I got four or fiveto choose from. I know what I'm
gonna do. Let me choose themustard color yellow one. And you know
(02:05:55):
what makes it, you know whatthe great accent is. Let me throw
a mustard color turtleneck on a suitcoat on my suit first off, turtlenecks
undersuits. To me, this ain'tChuck Norris in the seventies, okay,
Or you think that's good where theturtle neck's hitting your chin and you've got
and it's the matching color. I'mnot a big turtleneck under the suit guy.
(02:06:20):
Some may like the look, it'snot my style. But when it's
when it's plastered with complete mustard coloryellow and as mustard as it gets,
that I'm with you. I justsaid, dude, you got you can't
come on the set with that.We got to change. Use that on
your own time so you can lookin the mirror and say, man,
I look at because I hate totell him. For a smart guy and
a really really hell of a careeron the field and off it combined,
(02:06:45):
that's a that's about as that's aboutas bad a look as you will ever
see in your life. And he'swearing U a matching gold watch too,
the accident yellow gold. Gotta havea little yellow gold watch. The yellow
gos the mustard. Oh yeah.Somebody commented on his on his on this.
If somebody said it looks good, they're idiots. I love his trip.
I'm loving the mono chromatic yellow.Look at Emmanuel Acho with a fire
(02:07:12):
emoji and he quotes tweeted and that'swhen he put it. The he put
the picture. Yeah, boy,im sure you are well that that that
guy has that that guy who putthat up, Grab another shot at tequila.
I mean, come on, dude, gracious tripley, have you seen
it? A right, get onour sports Talk seven ninety Twitter and just
look up Emmanuel Ocho and then you'llsee it. I'll thenk But did he
(02:07:33):
really did gon? He honestly didn'twake up that morning put that. Honestly,
I look sweet today for my collegefootball insight. Oh gosh, he
didn't say that, did he?No? I just I just read the
text that Emmanuel sent us in ourgroup chat, breaking news out of the
NFL pants. Let me let medouble check this, make sure, make
(02:07:55):
sure I'm not getting pumped. Hefired, They fired Frankly. They fired
Frank right right, that's right there. Oh, here we go. They
fired Frank Wright. Remember on Friday. But on Friday we talked about it.
We said, what do we saythat it was on Wednesday? Yeah,
I kept keep forgetting when you know, we said we remember, we
talked and said that with Frank Reich, he had the play calling, gave
(02:08:18):
it up and then asked for itback. That's never a good recipe.
That means everything scrambling around. Imean they didn't even get out of year
one and got rid of him.Frank Reich's head coaching career probably not an
NFL head coach anymore. Somebody willhire him. He's a great dude and
really good with quarterbacks. That's whereFrank belongs right now. Yeah, they
(02:08:41):
haven't done much and this does notsurprise me one single bit, not one
friggin bit. Jim Harbaugh's name willcome up with that too. You watch,
his name will start to come upwith that one too, But I
don't. I this does not surpriseme at all that it happened now at
all. That's crazy. I knowit is. I know, but he's
(02:09:03):
not a real patient guy. What'sthe owner's name? His name is?
Or the GM he's got the nameof a is it Tepper? Dave Tepper?
He walked out of the Apparently hewalked out of the locker room yesterday
and was dropping F bombs left andright, screaming the F word. Well,
he's pissed off. Well, hescreamed another F word. You're fired.
Well damn uh triple You see thatsuit? Yeah, I'm like you,
(02:09:26):
you are not wearing that. Youcan't wear that on the set?
Can't? You can't because they won'ttake this. They won't take anything.
We say serious, I can't wecan't wear that one if you walked in,
wouldn't walk in Like, But I'mjust saying, let's just say for
Quinn first, I would say,Sean. What you'd say, Sean is
we say it's a joke. Right, Come on, dud, What's what's
(02:09:48):
that? I saidy, Like, what do you got going on? Is
this for like a charity or something? Put this on McDonald house. That's
like that suit would be worse thansomebody wearing the worst sweater at a Christmas
party. You know, the Christhat it looks like a gag gift.
I know it's exactly what it lookslike. Don't do that. He looks
like a yellow Range of Power rangesmart guy. Put that one of the
matter of factoring yourself a favor.Call up the guy who tailored it,
(02:10:11):
Tell him you don't want your moneyback, but don't ever put that swatch
in front of me again. Doyou remember Do you remember a couple of
weeks ago when Shannon Sharp had anew makeup artist and she kind of butchered
his lipstick, made it look likehe was wearing lipstick and eyeliner and all
that stuff. Yeah, you see, you had pointed that out. She
looks better with lipstick and eyeliner onthan Emmanuacho in that yellow mustard suit.
(02:10:33):
Put is he that way? Andthey cooked they cooked Shannon Sharp for that.
Yeah. Well, and yet peoplewere coupling this monochromatic yellow suit by
far and away. That's rotten tomatoesthere. Well, it wouldn't be tomatoes
because they're read. But you getmy point on that. That's as bad.
The suit was as bad as itgets. Unbelievable. Man, Wow,
(02:10:54):
yeah, you're not allowed to wearthat. No, you're not,
absolutely not. Frank out just thebeginning these licks coaches in college in the
NFL. That's where I wanted toget ugly. And we also got a
Heisman Trophy vote. It's what arewe two weeks away from that? So
the championship games will come into play, they will let's talk about that Heisman.

coaching carousel just said, it ain'tdone, spinning around and around and around.
It ain't done. Think about thistoo, you know it's not done.
And if you're Mark Stoop's probably bestyou just don't start talking about a
job until it's finalized. Because thefans talked, what a nightmare? The
agent's out of that one? Whata nightmare? Oh unbelieved. Now,
(02:13:48):
if you're Kentucky, what are youdoing? He's been really good for you.
Are you bringing him back? Sothey brought him back? I know,
yeah, it was kind of awhat's the word I'm looking for a
h it was. I mean,if you're Kentucky at the time when it
was going on, see, whatdo you say to your players after you've
basically told staff and guys you're leaving, which one of you guys is coming
with me? To accept him back? But you know why, it's success
(02:14:11):
and you can't fault the guy forwanting more money and what would be perceived
as a bigger job at Texas Aand M. Although Kentucky's played better football
than they have since Stoops has beenthere and since since Jimbo was here.
But I actually think they've hired agood coach and Mark Stoops is a good
coach as well. I think itwas wise for Kentucky to keeping But my

point is that loyalty. You're like, don't want to back, but we

Hardball's done at Michigan. You knowwhat coaches that are going to and
we're gonna get to the Heisman Andwhat else? Did you want to talk
about coaching carousel or oh, DanaHolger hol you had this Mark Stoop situation,
Mike Elkoch, Yeah, Frank, right now, it's just all coaching,
right, coaching coach that way untilfor the next month, and then
(02:14:52):
in the NFL, well till theplayoffs, NFL over the next six weeks,
seven weeks, and college football isgoing to run rampant now is and
then you look at guys who maystill lose their gig. You know,
as much as I like him,did I watch Robert Sala coach and put
(02:15:13):
it this way, if you watchthe If you watch and they're both really
good defensive coaches, but put acamera on Robert Salah and Todd Bowles and
Tampa and in New York for fourstraight quarters and just keep one camera on
them, and you will look atthe two most unenthusiastic, disinterested coaches you
(02:15:39):
have ever seen in your life onthe sideline. It's almost as if I
can't make them better. I don'tcare, but I know they care.
Or I can't even watch this team, or you're just resigned to the fact
that every single week you're going togo through a dog on an ulcer because
you're coaching at teams. But Tampa'sdecent, right, They hanging around?
(02:16:01):
But when's the last time? AndI don't mean this wrong, I just
watch him because I've told you Ilike Robert Sala. I'm not sure Todd
Bowles how much longer he lasts isa head coach. He's a great defensive
coach, but he also looks Iknow they're not, but doesn't he look
disengaged on the sideline. Yeah, there's no more disengaged coach on the planet
that from his team during a gameduring the week. I'm sure he coaches.
(02:16:24):
I've never seen a guy and I'mtalking about Lovey Smith. I'm talking
about all of them. Love Hewasn't the most over enthusiastic guy either.
I've never seen a guy with aheadset on at a ballgame. Who is
the head coach look more disinterested ina football game than when I watch Robert
sala in game on the sidelines.Every looks the same, arms are folded,
(02:16:46):
headsets on, jacket or sweatshirts on. He looks miserable to be there.
And I get it. The Jetsaren't very good. But he's got
talent, got a hell of adefense, got some skilled offensive player.
I have never seen a guy lookas if he hates coaching, but he
does not coach on Sundays. Hedoes not up and down unless I'm missing
(02:17:09):
something in the locker room. Idon't know what he says, even during
his interview. So he did aninterview at half to I was like,
well, we're you know, wellit's unfortunate that we missed that throw and
we threw the pick at the endfor the pick six, and you know
that. The things happen and we'lljust do our best. It was it's
like he's resigned to like I gotno shot. I'm talking him. I've
never seen a guy coach less duringa game in a season. Then the
(02:17:31):
last six weeks or so said that, I've seen Robert Salas standing on the
sidelines coaching. I feel bad forhim because it almost feels like here we
go again. I know what's goingto happen. I don't blame him for
being frustrated, but I can't remembera time. Would do you ever see
him go talk x's and o's toanybody? No? Isn't it the same
look the whole time for a guywho I think is a good football coach.
(02:17:52):
Man, are you primed for NewYork and losing? That's the problem
when it comes to coaching. ToddBole's face with the Jets too, but
both of them, it's almost likethey're frustration. They have such high expectations,
like I can't believe I'm watching this. They gave up a hail Mary
picked six at halftime day at thenight at the one yard. I caught
(02:18:13):
it and then all the skilled playerswere down the field and the fat guys
couldn't catch up to right If that'sme, if I'm Robert Sola, dude
knowing that everyone's catching straight. Didyou watch his reality you just walk back?
Yeah? And his his his demeanor. I feel bad for him because
I also, I mean Frank Reich. You know what if you watch Frank
Wright coach and he's calling plays. His demeanor on the side lens is almost
(02:18:37):
like and Aaron Rodgers, you know, wanting hacket there. You start to
wonder if Hackett having Rogers in greenBay, Hacketts as an assistant in green
Bay, got Rogers, got hackethired. Yes, he would have never
got the Denver job if Aaron Rodgers'success in Green Bay wouldn't have shown up
(02:19:01):
and said, oh, this isHacketts. He's got his father who coached
in the league, and now inNew York. Their offense is he's a
play caller. Dude, then theiroffense is putrid. At some point in
time, what do you say?If you're Robert Sali, you're probably shaking
your head saying that guy too.Once my quarterback went down, we suck
and I feel bad for him.But watching him, I'm like, that's
got to be difficult. Now you'regetting a big paycheck, but it's got
(02:19:22):
to be tough to go to workwith that demeanor. It's as if he
can't wait till it's over. I'venever seen a guy feel I've never seen
a guy look so disengaged from afootball team than when I've watched him standing
on the sides. Now, wedon't see every camrangle or every snap,
but when he's on, when theygo to him, which is a lot,
it looks as if Robert sala isresigned to the fact that please Aaron
(02:19:45):
Rodgers get back, or am Igoing to have this job when this season's
over. Frank Reich was for thePanthers fired, so obviously today fired mid
season. Wasn't he fired in seasonin Indy? Last year? Did they

said it ain't done, spinning aroundand around and around. It ain't done.
(02:21:16):
Think about this too, you knowit's not done. And if your
Mark Stoop's probably best you just don'tstart talking about a job until it's finalized.
Because the fans talked, Uh,what a nightmare. The agents out
of that one, what a nightmare? Oh unbelieved. Now, if you're
Kentucky, what are you doing? He's been really good for you. Are
you bringing him back? So theybrought him back. I know it was
kind of a what's the word I'mlooking for a Uh. It was point
(02:21:39):
being if you're Kentucky at the timewhen it was going on, I see,
what do you say to your playersafter you've basically told staff and guys
you're leaving which one of you guysis coming with me to accept him back.
But you know why, it's successand you can't fault the guy for
wanting more money and what would beperceived as a bigger job at Texas A
and M. Although Kentucky's played betterfootball than they have since Stoops has been
(02:22:03):
there and since since Jimbo was here. But I actually think they've hired a
good coach and Mark Stoops is agood coach as well. I think it
was wise for Kentucky to Keaton. But my point is that loyalty. You're
like, don't want to back, but we see guys for it, with
it all the time and come onback. Horriball's done at Michigan. You
know what coaches that are going toand we're going to get to the Heisman
and what else? Did you wantto talk about coaching carousel or Dana Holger
(02:22:24):
you had this Mark Stoops situation,Mike Elkoch, Yeah, Frank, right
now, it's just all coaching, right, coaching coach that way until for
the next month and then in theNFL, well till the playoffs, NFL

when this season's over. Frank Reichwas for the Panthers, fired so obviously
today, fired mid season. Wasn'the fired in season? In Indy?
Last year? Did they have aninterim coach at the end of the season,
Yeah, it was Jeff Saturday. That was last year, not two
(02:27:45):
years ago. Yeah, Saturday tookover his job. It's exactly right.
It's exactly right. Frank probably goingto be an assistant coach from here on.
He was fired, But he wasfired in November of last year,
November hasn't been good to Frank andone of the really good dudes, just
(02:28:07):
like Robert saw a good dude. But Frank looks a little bit disinterested.
I'm not saying they are. I'mjust talking about the optics of it and
the optics of Robert Sala on thesideline. It's like, dude, I
got no shot and my guys aren'tvery good on offense. So they're tough.
They're not Wow. One and donefor Frank Wright, see you later,
(02:28:28):
Bryce Young and that squad going tohave an intern coach for the rest
of the season. That's crazy.I mean, we talked about a little
bit last week and what was goingto happen and would they finish out the
season with him as the head coach, And yet here we are November twenty
seventh and Frank Wright couldn't even finishhis first full season with Carolina. I
mean, damn and a first pickof the draft in Bryce Young. I'll
(02:28:52):
tell you the big reason why.I'll guarantee you they don't feel like Bryce
Young's making great progress. I guaranteethat's a big reason why they better make
it important higher that are make animportant ire well if you look at his
look at Bryce s Young statistically likeand again like, I understand that he's
on a very good team. Butcoming into the season, CD Shrout was
(02:29:13):
not was considered not on a verygood team. Bryce Young hadn't even throw
over two thousand yards. Like,He's sixty one percent completion percentage, nine
touchdowns, eight interceptions, He's beensacked forty times. He got a long
way to go. Wow. Yeah, that team's got a long way to
go. And the one thing aboutDave Tepper his impatience. He's not going
to allow you to He doesn't care. He got plenty of money. It's
(02:29:37):
like, I don't care. Yeah, I'm finding out fire the next gul
fire that it doesn't matter. They'vehad a hard time finding the guy they
want. Hasn't worked out him atRule Frank Right, they got some fixing
to do. Yeah, they suredo. And I'll tell you Wilkes was
doing a good job for them untilthey let him go as an interim coach
himself last year. Yeah, hewas the guy that I thought they were
going to keep and make him thehead coach. Understandably, So you think
(02:29:58):
you're gonna get Jeff's Saturday No,No, I wouldn't think so. I
wouldn't think so. Urban Meyer,he go try his chances in the NFL.
Urban's NFL. NFL head coaching careeris gone. You might want to
put that one on the shiz elfelf. Yeah, okay, as in
the NFL, I'm not sure headcoaching career is done, but we'll see.
(02:30:20):
Is that Bill O'Brien's music. What'sthat? Is that his music for
the Carolina job? No, Bill'snot getting the Carolina job. Have you
watched his offense? You watched hisoffense that he have. Yeah, that's
how New England is so bad.You know who doesn't suck? We got
to get to it. Jaden Danielshe should win it. I don't know
(02:30:45):
if Phil Yeah, he's sure ashell should. Let's discuss the Heisman race

We're talking Heisman race here on theSean Salisbury show. Before we get to

going on? Man? I'm glady'all got in here. Man to get
some Texas talk in man Or Carolina. That stay problem. I'm glad wing
got it. Uh uh, John. I want to ask you a question.
And I've been saying this. I'vebeen evaluating my guys the whole season,
and I've basically been evaluating the coaching. And I'm gonna tell you seun
(02:34:33):
C J. Stride is so aheadof the curve the coaches better get on
board with him because that dude gotsomething him. He's not accepting nothing less
than a win. And by thatgame yesterday, Sun I'm gonna blame that
all on coaching, and the refereesplayed a part in that, Shun.
In the second quarter, they gota penalty and we choose not to take
(02:34:54):
to back them up. We chooseto play for the mister down. We
got to pass in the fence andthey end ups going to touchdown. Back
them up. Come. We alreadyknow, excell and Os, it's harder
fourth quarterback inside the twenty to tryto throw pass us because it's so much
traffic. I'm gonna take my chanceswith that. Moving right on along to
(02:35:15):
the fourth quarter, Shun. Iwas listening to Great Andre Well break the
game down and talk about the urgencyand about in the huddle again that we
go to twelve man on the field. It depended that I have to use
the time out and not even asense of urgency coming out the huddle with
five and six Sepson on the clock, like it's like it's the week up
by big floored and you know hehas to take accounting for you know,
(02:35:37):
I don't just praise him when they'regood, but I have to call you
on your stuff. A lot ofit is shown the coaching staff is so
with calls and and uh CJ.Strout winning these downs with the play breaking
down, So it just tells meby big Sloyd plays sometime ninety percent of
them is CJ. Strout because theplay breaks now and he had to extend
(02:35:58):
that. When he has to extendit, that somebody floor. My thing
is that I think they need tostep up their coach and sewan because they
not even fundamentally basically, because ifyou're not that going into next year show,
once you get the fundamental, youtake another year to get basic.
Coaches, they have to get thenuance and Demico lyon coaching the defense and
(02:36:18):
head coach, he has the thirdand one? Why you throwing two balls?
Third and one, four and one? You choose to throw the ball?
Come on, that's no fundamental AndI listen to you take thank you
out. I did not like evenif you're gonna choose to throw it.
I thought the choice of throws waswrong on third and fourth down, and
(02:36:41):
then you go watch did you seePhiladelphia on fourth and four? List was
the third and four, fourth andtwo? I think it was fourth and
four, fourth, Yeah, Jalenhurts, HiT's a quick out. Just
give me that. Whether it's theplay call. See you know what I
do in a situation like that tomake it easier on a rookie quarterback.
If I'm calling the play, Idon't give him the fate option way fourth
down. It's not even in theoption. Why have you give them the
(02:37:01):
option when you have a route runnerlike I'm I'm running like a choice route,
which gives him a three way break, push up, sit down past
the marker flat flood zone. Soif you get zone er man, if
it's flood zone, you'll get apick built in automatic or a shallow cross
or pick built in. If it'szoned, then they can sit down four
or five yards two yards and giveme an easy completion. It's not listen,
(02:37:22):
you can't go twenty for twenty onfade throws to a tight end against
air. It's just wide receivers. It's ball's going to bounce out of bounds
one time, and then I gotpeople covering them. In those situations,
I'm taking it out that decision frommy quarterback. I'm not giving you that
opportunity to get to your read whereyou're throwing a fade route when the game
is on the line to a tightend. Not good. His name's not
(02:37:43):
Gronk and you're not on it.Even then, that's not the specialty.
Guts is one thing, and takingchances and shots is another. They got
to be judicious, dude, andthat wasn't I also thought that Demico turning
down the play and defensive owl.Glad we got to this. I was
waiting for the to the last coupleof segments about a few other things to
look forward to is I thought Demikoryans now worked out for him that the
(02:38:07):
fourth down they got the stop whenhe didn't take the penalty to push him
back and they went for it.They still got the stop because of bad
play call and great penetration by theTexans. I would have taken the yardage
right, taken the yardage penalty. And I thought they were poor on their
usage of timeouts. I thought theywasted some. Yeah, they had inexcusable
when they were inexcusable. Getting theball pun into that twelve men can't happens,
(02:38:30):
and that is Those are the thingsthat either special teams coach a player.
They all got to come to it. Now where I disagree with Al,
I don't believe it's just the coachesthat cost him a game. They're
not above reproach or criticism. Theydeserve criticism when they do stuff we don't
like. But you know what givingup a sack, getting beat inside on
inside charge by by your best passruster which get a clear path to the
(02:38:50):
quarterback, throw a play calling whereboth throws the ball was in the air
over twenty yards on third and fourthdown. Both can't do it. I'm
talking about on third and four, not third and and twenty seven, third
and and seven or third and uhand fourth, third down, fourth down
(02:39:13):
and three or less. Right, you have to give yourself a chance to
to uh do that. I'm takingthat decision on the fade route out of
the quarterback's hands by giving him somethingelse to go to, not a fade
route to on those on those callsthat we're talking about, it was the
nine to twenty nine left in thefourth quarter. It was third and one
at Houston forty six yard line, incomplete pass deep looking for Nico Collins.
(02:39:35):
And then the fourth down in oneincomplete deep left the Dalton Schultz can't do
it, and fourth and one, even if you run it on listen,
why not we can all say,but the broadcast crew get him well why
not get him on the edge togive him a chance to run and throw.
I don't like to limit and makeit a one person read when it's
(02:39:58):
not there and my one person readand Dalton Schultz is a good player working
zones and playing man running pump seemswhat I don't want is a guy.
You know, we don't do veryoften in practice, and I'm just telling
you now, throw fade routes totight ends. We just don't do it.
It's not something I can guarantee you. They don't go down to the
goal line and throw forty fades ofpractice like you do to Nico Collins.
(02:40:20):
You just don't do it every nowand then you got an inside like what
we call a big box fade wherethe tight end comes off a pick and
he runs to the back of theend zone. Or you'll get Gronk on
a corner once in a while whenhe was playing, or you throw the
fade or the slant. I getthat, but the fade, just just
how to locate the ball is notsomething that they're working on daily. I
(02:40:41):
think now they may have worked onit this past week. But a fade
route on fourth and one when thegame is on the line to my tight
end, even if it was thebest tight end in the world, is
not the matchup I want because they'renot used to catching balls like that.
Usually balls are thrown this way ona line a one or a two ball,
You're rarely getting the ball pushed downthe field. Drop it to do
a bucket to a tight I didn'thave to locate. And if it's not
(02:41:01):
right on the money ball drops outof bounds or drops incomplete. I didn't
like to play. I didn't thinkthey had good use of timeouts, and
in the secondary way too much giveup on the home runs. Too many
home runs. You give up fourhome runs in a game, you're gonna
get beat. And those were fivehundred footers yesterday. Yeah. I didn't
like to play calls at all, especially third and one, fourth and one

Sean Salisbury stock spider. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
yeah yang yeah. One first shot? Who pulls the more? I got
(02:43:15):
no betting from Jim? Have youdone who pulls more? With us?
Yet? He has? He did? Yeah? We bringing it up about
a starter and a backup or somethingwe did? Pulls it? We just
said you brought it up last week? Was something you brought up last week?
All right? Who pulls more?Mark Stoops or Mike Elko? Mark
(02:43:37):
Stoops career at Texas A and Mlasted about as long as Aaron Rodgers' career
with the Jets. You see thememe where it says Texas A and M
new head coach twenty three and thenthere's a hyphen this is twenty twenty three.
Yeah, twenty three to twenty three? Who pulls more? I'm gonna
say Stoops okay, uh Elkome, you know, obviously due He's got Texas
(02:43:58):
A and m background and coach defense, and he'll have them physical and ready
to go. I'm looking forward toseeing how Mike does with this. And
Mark's brash and gets after it andhas made Kentucky a more than just a
basketball program in school program. He'sdone a hell of a job. But
I think this is a good hire. I'm anxious to see it's rare.
(02:44:20):
I think maybe I'm wrong. Maybemore listen to it than not. And
I'm not saying fans don't deserve asay, because I mean they're the ones
that are paying and showing up anddoing all that and fill in a stadium.
I'm anxious to see if it reallywas the backlash of fans, if
fans honestly the backlash to hire Stoopswas so bad that the fans talk the
(02:44:41):
border regents and the athletic director outof it. Are they going to let
fans make all their decisions as theymove forward? It's usually not a good
I'm not saying fans don't know, but all of them don't know, some
do, some don't, and there'ssome who don't care. They just like
the camaraderie at every school. See, it doesn't matter where. But I'm
(02:45:03):
always a little bit concerned when afan base decides they don't want to coach,
and you listen up. But theymay be spot on. Stoops can
coach. But they cried loudly apparentlyfor uh that not to happen in the
eleventh hour. It didn't happen,so the deal wasn't done. I don't
want to put a buzzkill to it. Yeah, well not even a buzzkill.
(02:45:24):
But uh, Mark Stoops and MikeElko look identical. There's a similar
look. Let me let me youmean you mean the average white guy in
Iowa. Yeah, there's Mark. There's Mark, Yeah, Mike. They
could be twin brothers. It's irlesseerily similar. And he's got his brother,
Mike Stoops out there. So yeah, very you're you're right. I'm
(02:45:46):
gonna got a little jollier in theface, right, thick tough guy.
Look. And Elko's done a hellof a job at Duke, hell of
a job this year. And uhand we we know Mark Stoops. So
both guys are worthy of hiring, and both both had good jobs Duke and
Kentucky are good. Ironically, thetwo basketball schools that you get football coaches
(02:46:09):
battling for the fact that you're notjust Duke and Kentucky basketball. Have really
made Duke and Kentucky not just Dukeand Kentucky basketball with what Stoops and Elko
have done. And Elko gets thisgig. Stoops will keep his Kentucky gig,
and A and M gets the fanbase apparently gets the guy they want.
We'll see how that works out.I'm telling you, you could find
(02:46:31):
both of these guys walking through theSalt Lake City, Utah airport. Yeah.
Probably both have put them together, and somebody might come up to him,
say, you guys brothers like you'reYou're going to find them in de
Moyne, Iowa. Yeah, Icall it dismoyn Us, just des Moiness,
just two basic white guys rolling through. So we'll see. But I
think A and M's got a goodcoach now going in. You never know
what's going to work out. ButMike, you don't have to worry about
(02:46:54):
the you know, whether academics oranything might comes from Duke. He understands
the importance of that. And youknow, the recruiting, it's Texas A
and M. They're going to getplayers, and I'm anxious to see how
he does it because listen, defensively, they're going to show up. They
got players. The consistency of gettingWigman back and playing great offense is there
next level. I'm more interested nowin who he hires is as assistance.
(02:47:18):
That's what I can't wait to seethat that that's something that I want to
see on that team. All Right, as we're talking college football school,
I say, I know I teasedTexans, but I want to also true.
I want to look at this Heisman. So when you look at everything
of this season combined, I thinkthe two front runners as it stands are
(02:47:46):
Michael Pennix and Jayden Daniels. Disagree, Okay, who do you ask?
I think it's Michael Pennocks and Imean, uh, Jade Nanis and Bo
Nicks. Okay, Pennicks top five. His performances statistic recently have not been
Heisman Trophy like I'm talking about judgefrom Heisman Trophy voters. I love Pennix.
(02:48:09):
I think he's a top five guy. I think he's probably getting invited
if they go and beat now Listen, the voting doesn't end until I think
December fourth, and then the Decemberninth is the ceremony on Saturday. So
what is that a week from thisSaturday? Yes, yep, so you
still after conferenceation. That's why it'snot one. Here's the disadvantage for Jaden
(02:48:31):
Daniels. He doesn't get the extragame, and it's an extra big game
if bow Knicks goes out and throwsfor three hundred and runs for eighty and
they beat Washington. From a votersstandpoint, I think bow Knicks is a
great numbers. He's been in theit feels like twenty years, like six
(02:48:52):
years of college football. But bowKnicks is on a better team and he's
played great football. I don't wantto I'm not shrinking his If you're telling
me, would Oregon be the sameteam if Jaden Daniels was on was on
oregonist that LSU and the answers absolutely, oh yeah, no question. So
to me, those losses no faultthat jad and Daniels threw losses and wins
(02:49:18):
and playing in the SEC every singletime he's been asked to pull through,
he has. Bo Nix has beengreat. The disadvantage because of all of
a sudden, Panis goes for fourhundred and four touchdowns. He will win
it, even though I got himlike third in that third range. Now
they all eyes for the Heisman.I mean you have to if you're a
Heisman voter, you absolutely have towatch and you got to watch Carson Beck.
(02:49:41):
He's he's a late I mean,he's been putting up a Heisman Trophy
type numbers. He's not gonna winit, but he's a good player on
the best team in America. JJMcCarthy's numbers haven't been got enough. He's
out. It's it's a three horserace in truth right now in my opinion,
two quarterbacks in the Pac twelve andJayde Dams. My vote today.
(02:50:01):
Jayden Daniels. Yeah, Jayden Daniels. I think he's been the most consistent
best player in college football on offenseat the skilled position, which is who
the award goes to all year long, better than anybody with his arm,
his leg, his feet, hisclutch, his consistency, his deep ball,
his intermediate everything. He's on accuracyeverything on a team that if they
(02:50:22):
had a top fifteen defense, wouldprobably be sitting in a possible undefeated situation
right now, but they're not.So you know, the only if man
had ball, she'd be my uncle. I would vote for him first today.
Now he gets to sit and watchwell, and I can get you
know what game he's watching this weekend. He'll be watching SEC. I can
(02:50:45):
just as sure you. Jayden Daniels'eyes are focused on Washington and Oregon because
if both of those guys go throughand defenses step up and they have like
you know that game where you're seventeento thirty for two forty five, two
touchdowns and a pick and you win. I remember Charles Woodson's last game with
(02:51:05):
the Peyton Manning. Charles Woodson. Here these guys who show with the lad
when it's close and have that onebig game at the end, or they've
had a lot of good games whereit's like the announcers are going crazy and
that height of pick six, makeeighteen tackles, you know, a pass
breakup, if your woodsn't catch aball on offense, if you're running rout,
all those things. Charles Woodson andManning, they remember the last one.
(02:51:26):
And it's not like bone Nicks andPennix haven't had good seasons. They
both had monster seasons. If bothof them play decent but don't dominate the
losing quarterbacks out of the is notwinning the Heisman. And you're gonna say,
well, Sean, if it's Washington, that's only one game. Yet,
Jane Daniels has been better all yearlong. So for me, I
(02:51:48):
think great game catapults the guy inthe Pac twelve championship. Average or decent
games for both you got to goback to who's been the best quarterback all
year long, and well, it'snot fair to Jayden. They he didn't
get the extra game. Well,it is fair because their team didn't get
him the extra game. They're notplaying in it. They're not in a
conference championship. That's the way itis. My vote today is jayde and
Daniels, bow Nick second, MichaelPennock's third. They can overtake him with
(02:52:11):
one extra game. If both ofthem have good to average the good games,
Jayden Daniels wins it. If oneof those guys shines to the point
where like wow, and they dominatethe defense, that guy will win the
Heisman Trophy. I think bow Knicksis ahead of I don't know what the
odds say right now, but Iwould do you know what the gambling odds
say. I got Daniels, Knicksand Pennix is my top three. I
(02:52:33):
have zero idea what the odds saytoday, but I have I was voting
now it's Jade and Daniels. Butthis weekend is going to be big monster
weekend. This weekend after week thirteen, bow Knicks is the favorite minus one
thirty five. And who's Jayden Danielsat plus one ten? Number two?
And Penix is third. Michael Pennixis number three. There you go,
(02:52:54):
plus sixteen hundred. Do they haveus four? It's just the top three?
Okay? Oh no, hang on, sorry, I mean they got
some other ones. It's uh topfour, I mean tied for fourth.
You got Carson Back and Marvin HarrisonJunior. So then they are even thrown
in j Jalen Milroe. So theyactually put Carson Beck in there. Okay,
So I think that he's not goingto win it, but he can.
(02:53:16):
He will be one of the leadingguys going into next year. Beck
will great team starting quarterback. He'shad a hell had a sneaky helified season
numbers wise. But if one ofthose guys show up and play their ass
off in the Pac twelve Championship.I think they win it if Jade and
Dan if it stands pat and theyhave decent games when not spectacular Jayden Daniels
today, Daniels gets my vote. But we'll see how this Pack twelve champion.
(02:53:39):
That's where the eyes are going tobe focused for the Heisman voter.
So the Heisman ballots have been distributedtoday, The voting deadline is from today
the fourth and then the Heisman ceremonyis the ninth yep, So you get
That's the only thing I would wouldn'tbe cool if you saw like Jayden and
Daniels playing against Alabama and in agame or Georgia where he had a chance
to go shine like c J.Stroud died against Georgia last year in the
(02:54:01):
playoff, right, but in aconference championship. But Daniels to me has
been the best, most consistent player. I'd give it to him today.
But I bow Nixon and Penix don'thave to apologize to anybody for their season.
They're they're If either one of themwins that you should not have a
gripe. No, no, youshould not. Who could be the next

was the Jags Texas A and Mhiring Mike Elkauzer next head coach Frank Reich
fired from the Panthers in the NFLUniversity Houston, also firing their head coach
(02:57:03):
Danner Holgerson Bye, see you later. Something not going on by and not
being there. They lost to CentralFlorida over the weekend. They only won
two Big twelve games. UH interestedto see who they could go and get
Chris Pezman. Obviously the ad atthe University of Houston Tilmore FOTIA will be
(02:57:24):
in on that decision as well. There are some early names that have come
out. What is it? MikeTraylor No, Jeff Traylor from from Willie
Fritz. Both have done phenomenal jobsat their programs upgraded and they got it
from their coaches. Willie Fritz overat Tulane. Uh he former head coach
of Sam Houston State, took themto some national title appearances. He's done
(02:57:48):
great everywhere he has gone. Lookat what happened to Sam Houston State overall,
I mean Sam Houston right back. They had to say struggled a little
bit, but there they got someI know a couple of coaches on that
staff that are really friggin good.It was just a yacht truff year with
banged up a little bit. Everybodyhas them. Plus, if I'm not
mistaken, it's their first year andwhat the Yeah, they stepped up their
conference. Yeah they went up.They left from f CS to FBS,
(02:58:11):
right, and so it's tough, but Willy Fritz is a good choice.
Both of those guys would be great. The question you have to ask yourself.
Now, I understand it's a bigtwelve. I understand who's the better
team right now? Ti Lane orHouston. Who's a better team right now
U TSA or Houston UTSA? Right, So you have to ask yourself going
forward over the next year or two, where am I going to have great?
(02:58:31):
Because you know what, let's justsay that Fritz and or Trailers stay
where they're at. And then allof a sudden, Ryan day next year
doesn't make it all of a sudden, how state comes up and Trailer goes
ten and one next year Willie Fritz, Oh, you're thinking hmmm. Now
now you're thinking to yourself, okay, by being you don't always here's my
(02:58:54):
point. You don't always have torush at the first job that comes open.
If you're building success somewhere else, just like at Kansas with what they're
doing there with Leipol, they're buildingsuccess. You don't always have to jump
with the first job. In anythingyou do. We get so anxious.
I want you're looking over somebody's shoulderto get out and want to go to
the next job. That you goto the next job too soon. You
(02:59:16):
had something special in that, Thereal special one was two jobs away.
The question is is the Houston jobspecial? I love Chris Peesman, you
know that. Yeah, And youknow how I feel about what Kelvin's go
doing over there. I love itand I want them to get the best
guy, two things that I love. If you're Willie Fritz and if you're
Jeff Trailer, you got to looklong and hard as okay, because if
(02:59:37):
you come here even though you've builtthose programs. If you're not successful three
years, you're getting fired. Arethey primed in the Big twelve to go
win right now? And any goodcoach that's worth assault says, hell yeah,
when I get there, we're goingto be ready to go. This
is a put it this way,the potential with the high school players in
this area and go to the Bigtwelve. This program should be better.
Does that make sense? And Iwish Dana all the luck in the world.
I love Dana Holgerson. You knowwhat, And you guess what Dana
(03:00:01):
will be doing again coaching? Yeshe will. He's a good coach and
this was his gig and he lovedit and it started out good. It
just didn't end well, meaning victorywise. Right, So it's okay,
Dane's got plenty of coach coaching future. He's young and knows how to coach.
But they needed to move to thenext level, so they will.
But if you're Willie Fritz or JeffTraylor, you've got to be awfully say,
(03:00:24):
Okay, what's the next step forUniversity Houston? How am I going
to get us there? Because thatnext job may be the best one.
I hope for Chris peesman in theirhigher on their side. I also hope
that they don't just jump in onsomebody because somebody had one. I'm not
talking about the two lane or utsa. They've had some sustained success over the
last couple of years. I'm talkingabout just, oh, we play in
(03:00:48):
this where everybody's got to spread itout and do it. You know what
what does Kelvin Sampson do on defense? He could contest shots, plays great
defense, offense feeds off and he'sgot ters boom, they elevate and he
gets buying from players. Right,So here, give me a guy who
gets buying. I don't need youto hire a head coach just because he's
(03:01:09):
had success with the spread, youknow, the gun offense where everybody's spread,
you know, the air raid offense. It does not have to necessarily
be an air raid guy because wethat's that what everybody does. It's okay
to do something. Get under centeronce in a while, run the gun,
run some RPO, push the balldown the field, run you know,
vertical stretch, some West Coast mixin along with RPO. You don't
(03:01:33):
have to do it just because hey, we're in Texas. This is the
background of run and shoot back inthe day with you know, with with
Andre Ware and David Klingler all theway up to oh now we run our
po all the stuff the big Twilve'sdoing. You can do stuff a little
different. You can. Now ifthat coach you're going to hire is all
about all that spread and you know, being perceived as a finesse team,
(03:01:56):
then go find him. That's that'sfine. But just because somebody's got a
connection to the University of Houston oris a spread guy, sometimes, well,
who's gonna win the NC to it? Look at the four teams that
are going to be in it.Oregon's defense has knocked you in the mouth
all year long. Michigan defense anygood, that's pretty good. You think
they're okay, all right, Iowa'sdefensive. Their offense sucks. Iowa's defensive
(03:02:20):
Look at this, their offense sucksbeyond measure. They're in the Big Ten
Championship. Now they're on the weakerside, but they're still in Georgia.
How they play? You think they'rephysical? Yeah, they're pretty good,
just a hunt right, all right? Texas is Texas? Well? They
well, how's their defense flying?Or how's that run game. When they're
running, they could throw it,but they are knocking the hell out of
you. Go up and down,go up and down. Who's gonna win
(03:02:45):
the physicality, all the finess isfine. You got to have that quarterback
who makes plays. But when allis said and done, you know Wyohio
States lost to Michigan last three years. Knock them, punched them right,
smack dab in the face in thesegames. Look go look the numbers,
especially the two years previous this, they wore their ass out physically. So
if you're University of Houston, thisis a This has the potential to be
(03:03:07):
a home run job. I'd loveto coach over there. Why ad buy
in, president, buy in buildingsomething special with basketball facilities are so much
better. It's called you got andyou can listen. There's a you don't
have to leave Houston to get greatplayers here. You don't have to leave
(03:03:28):
twenty five to fifty square miles andyou can field a big twelve competitive roster.
You absolutely can find me a guywho gets buy in, who knows
how to recruit, and who leads. The x's and o's will take care
of itself. Whether you're in airraid, whether you're in under center doing
what Michigan does and run an eyeformation and knocking you in the mouth like
Stanford, or whether you're spreading itout and going empty the whole time and
(03:03:50):
throwing slants and flats and seam routesand all those things that we talk about
our po fax and running it offevery and in the gun every snap.
Whatever you want to do, giveme a leader who gets buy in and
knows how to recruit and gets thestaff can recruit. I'll find you x's
and o's. I could the x'sand o's guys so much easier to find
than the great leader who gets buyin. I promise you I'll volunteer to
(03:04:16):
help pick that coach if you want. They need not that they're calling me,
but it sounded good. Director ofops or whatever. I'm just telling
you, give me a yeah, probably let's go. I just think whoever
they go and get me in theUniversity of Houston. They've got to get
somebody that can recruit this city.If you can recruit this city, then
you're going to be just okay.Probably not a bad idea you'll be doing
(03:04:37):
okay. Probably not a bad ideato check one of these programs out and
go snatch a really successful high schoolcoach to be on your staff around here
or too. They know how torecruit this area and understand a landscape,
but can also coach as assistance andwhat I can find you fifty players in
a week. They can play here. Interim head coach for university see right
(03:05:00):
now, Corby Meekins. You knowwhere he coached. We talked about him
last week. Local Westfield High School. Yeah, one of the top programs
in the city year in and yearout. Yep, they're getting ready to
I can name you a bunch ofplay I go getting ready to play Duncanville.
And then you know what you do. If you're Houston, you steal
a four or far five star guy. If you can recruit and get buying
and you lead, it was gonnago somewhere else. Yeah, gotta do
it. A and M's got that. We got some and it's some fertile
(03:05:22):
recruiting grounds, but you've got somecompetition. Let's go. Good luck and
good luck to Dana Hey and wearyour yellow suits worrow please thanks. I'll
never wear a canary yellow suit aday in my life. You'll if you
had a bullet. I'll take thebullet first. Okay, all right,
you heard it your first. Ifyou said, Sean, you have to
wear that yellow suit, I'm gonnashoot you in your foot, shoot me
in my foot. Okay, whatabout you there to me? Take that
(03:05:46):
out? Ye go here. Youcan show you anywhere. That keeps me
alive. But I'll have to sufferthrough the pain. I'd rather suffer through
that fan than wearing a canary yellowsuit with a turtleneck. That's canary yellows.
I'll pass. That's it for thenSouth Less Dana in Houston as they
hire into Texas, A and M. You're onto something. It's Shawn Salisbury.
Our producer Emmanuel Elmore, Triple E. I'm Brian Lima. Thank you
(03:06:07):
