Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Shawn Salisbury, The USC Truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Brian a Lima, Manuel Elmore, Alex Bregman wins the Gold
Glove for third base.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
Nuts.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah, is Sexan's play Sunday. No, I didn't Cowboys lose.
We got all kinds of action to get into. Yeah,
Texas a and m Yeah Man gold Glove.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
Finally, she's gonna look awesome in Chicago, I mean Boston,
I mean Washington.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Be nice to look awesome here, wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
It you would? Yeah, it would not. Sure, well that
should be no surprise. A guy plays great defensive third base. Yeah,
so good for him.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
He's been in the running for the gold Glove every
single year for like the last four years, and uh,
this is first one.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
This is his first one. Matt Chapman always.

Speaker 5 (01:04):
Uh yeah, he came along time with another wizard at
third base. You know, well, that's really reserved for Ozzie
new I mean Ozzie Smith, that's the wizard. But if
you can play in field like Ozzie played shortstop, you've
on wing gold gloves. And Bregman made play after play
after playing has done that a number of times in
his career.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
That's the gold glove for Alex Bregman. We call those
the Breggy glove or something like that. Oh man, how
you living by the way?

Speaker 5 (01:35):
Had a good weekend?

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Living right? How was the Dale?

Speaker 5 (01:37):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I'm back so yeah, I'll tell you what, man, they're there.
That place is just top notch. A little too expensive
for me though.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
You know what expense these nuts? Okay, I'm an let's
make that at some point in time every segment you
got to get one to somehow. That's a pretty good Hey,
it's pretty expensive expense these nuts.

Speaker 7 (02:00):
You.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Uh so, you're just discovering the Scott Stales expensive. Now
go now, now do now? Do do the real estate
and come see me, not just what it's like in
a hotel and to buy a drink at a bar.
But we're listen, man, you can go to the most
inexpensive of towns now and if you want to buy
a steak there, you might as well mortgage, not pay

(02:22):
your mortgage for the month, especially if you're feeding a
family of four or six. It's craziness. Yeah, so but yeah,
but the Dale good times had by all. Huh little
bachelor party.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, it's uh, it's it. The weather was unbelievable there, shocker.
The high when we were there was seventy eight degrees
and dry. Yeah, and the low was I think one
night it got down to like forty five degrees. That's
the desert, man. It was fantastic, weaver. We actually rained
one of the nights that we were there. Rain got
in and out and it got a little chilly again. Yeah,
it was great man. Obviously Halloween weekends so everything was

(02:53):
jam packed, but there's some We went to a place
called Boondocks, great great spot to a football game.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Boon Docks indoor outdoor right around the corner. Ye when
Dylan my son I went on my kids yesterday. It
was awesome. When my son was the chef of the
Phoenix Suns. If you walk out that door and stare
down one block down on the right, you see there's
build the condo apartment buildings right there. That's where he lives.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
And you know the man as a single guy, you're
living it up.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
Oh you think, oh my god, he's right there. Well,
because he now owns three, he's a partner in three
restaurants at Austin and a food truck and he's killing it. Man,
Like when you're like a team chef, you don't get
the experiment like chefs want to. You know, you got
a certain guy like he could. He could right now
tell you what everybody that walked through that line. And

(03:43):
he was there when the I mean, yeah, good teams
right right. It's just two years ago and he the
crazy there two of three to two and a half
years ago.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Three years ago.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
He you know, you get to a part where oh,
I know what Big Frank wants. He want boo boo
boo boo boo boom bom. Head coach wants this Devin Booker,
I mean just right down the line. So if they
come through for breakfast, make it now with his own
He can change the menu all the time, do it
at all. And he's crushing. And I'm going to tell
you something, man, wherever we'll go into Austin for fun.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
And he may be my son, and I may be biased,
but my older brother went and visited my my boys
and this a couple of months ago, and he'd been
there before I had been there. He called me up
and said, your son is killing. He goes, if you
had his, if you had his burger, because he got
a high end restaurant and another one the food trucks
like chicken sandwich, burger, the chili cheese fries. Dude, a

(04:34):
matter of fact, you wouldn't even eat anything there. They're
stupid good, right And you say, well, how can you
screw those up? Well, there's you could screw him up.
He also got to do them right where the French
even the French fries, right, yeah, he made I had
a burger yesterday and my brother didn't.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
He goes the best burger I've ever had.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
And I'll put it up if there's a contest, stick
him in the state contest. That kid knows how to cook. Really, yeah,
he does. So I'm proud of might just want to
put that out there. He's killing us. That's why he'd
leave Phoenix Sunch. He walked out of Boondocks, which is
a fairly decent place in the old town Scottsdale, and
he was right there. So and you know behind that
if you come out there and you know all the
other places are there, you know, like Dirk's Bentley's place, right, Yeah,

(05:11):
the bottle Blonde now but it was a bottle bottle right,
the Mexic half the bell Heath Wi Fi or high
Fi high fly, right high Fi. And that little party
place that swimming pool. Never been in it, but every
time you go buy it on a weekend. So they
used to have a little betting kiosk in there. They
may still have it, Yeah, on a corner bar. Yeah,

(05:32):
when I was like, was there for the Kentucky Derby?
You pop on in there, you do it, you get
your ticket, you can go bet in there. It's all
you can do that anywhere. Now you can go into
a bar there. We went to called Gilligans. They have
they have a lot of kiosk in there. Oh yeah,
an Arizona, a lot of kiosks. They want to get
some lotto tickets. So why you drink a couple of beers.
It's right there for you. Certain place you go in there,

(05:53):
do it. There's a you know, a big square bar
and send another bar. I can't remember. It's not far
from old town, but it's a little north and god still,
and you go in there. I'm sure there's a lot
more now since the bet you know, they opened the
DraftKings place at TPC and stuff. But you walk in there,
you sit there and say I gotta go bet and
you start. It's in the bat I could take a
window with the horse races. Yeah, I go back there
and you pick your horses and go and it's like

(06:14):
that's how it's supposed to be.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Yah, went to the Barstool sports bar.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
That used to be a country but right on the
right on Scottsdale Road that used to be a country bar. There.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
It's big, Yeah, it is big, two stories.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
It used to be one where you could ride the
bull in there stuff and it has changed names a
bunch of times. But that one's hung for a minute,
and that's a The only problem is a little bit
of parking. But that's you think location matters there, buddy,
Scottsdale Road and camel Back there done it right? Oh yeah, yeah,
the good time. I'm glad you got to go again.
So when you got to tomorrow, you're off too, because
you've got a bachelor party on a two. No no, no, no,

(06:47):
no no.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
It's Taco Tuesday for us to taco.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
It's also election you ever heard of it?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Tomorrow is election day as well. Yeah, you know you
got your early voted. You already, torow you're going. This
is the first time I've ever early voted. I was
going to this year, but I had some things, you know,
your bachelor party.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Yeah much. Yeah, So yeah, we'll be we'll do that.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
It's the first thing we're doing right after work tomorrow,
So we're going to cast your vote. So if you're
out there listening, make sure you get your votes in tomorrow.
It's a big, big election for us. Yeah, you know,
we're at boondocks And I went as as a Buzz
Lightyear for Halloween Thursday night. You know how embarrassing he
is to be screaming at the Texans game watching them
get their ass beat on the offensive line while wearing

(07:29):
a buzz Buzz light Year costume.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Can on line light Year And uh, what's his friend's.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Name, Woody?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Yeah, yeah, Woody either buddy.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
It was dresses.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Can you guys line up, put your hand in a
dirt and maybe protect a pat you know. And and
there was like a random group of guys. One was
wearing a Davis Mills jersey. Yeah, there was what was it,
an Eric Winston Texans jersey.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Made an appeals school.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
So they were like a little bit older than me
and we were kind of you know, talking with them,
and just it was like time after time after time,
Stroud has to have shroud gets sacked. Stroud's got to
scramble missing throws, Like dude, it was so embarrassing watching
that damn game on Thursday night.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
They didn't play very well, and a lot I talk
about this week as they get ready for their toughest
opponent of the year, you could say, what you want
to get this team, this may very well be the
best team in football, let alone the best team they faced.
And I'm talking Chiefs in Baltimore Ravens as well. Yeah,
so this team is really good all over the place.
And even when they strugg Dude, golf this year, how's
he if you're not considering for the MVP. The ball

(08:30):
doesn't hit the ground no ever. I mean I'm talking
about again, it's raining, sideways and cold, I mean raining
in Green Bay eleven of eleven. I mean just it's
incredible the and and they're not I mean they've run
good screen game and good short passing game. But they
pushed the ball down the field too. Yeah, they with
you know Saint Brown and that group, it's they're impressive.

(08:51):
So you better be listening there. If they don't play
their best game, they will not win. They will not
beat Detroit.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
The throw to Amen Ross Saint Brown last night on
the back shoulder on a four worth down stupid.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Oh my god, you can't put it any more more.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Person about the balls it takes to take the shot
to throw it there on fourth down, because normally thinking, well,
that's is that a high percentage from high percentage for
them and then execute it to perfection. And I can't
forget that that's a hard throw because you only work
on it a couple times in practice a day. You know, oh,
let's work on the back shoulder on a fade, and
then under the duress, you're like, okay, where's the leverage

(09:24):
of the player.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Everything's got to be perfect.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
You got to make that throw to the to the Really,
it's the inside eye that when you turn inside, it
becomes the outside eye on the sidelines, because if you
miss that throat, it's an easy breakup.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
If you make throw it where you want where you.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
Want to throw it, it's imp I mean literally impossible
to stop because you got to take away the fade.
First guy puts his foot in the ground, the quarterback
throws it while his backsturned.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Bam. Right.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
I just it's it's a bang bang play and it's
pretty impressive. But they're coming to time's here, right, Yeah,
it is Sunday night, Sunday, Sunday night. I'm just telling
you that this is their toughest opponent all around, because
they score from the from the parking lot. They are
playing defense. They've got two runners that would start on
any on most teams in the league and both rush
for a thousand plus yards. They've got a tight end

(10:07):
that can play. They've got wideouts that are home run hitters.
They can possession you to death. They're coached, in my opinion, Reid,
Andy Reid and our guy Mike Tomlin, and there's a
few other I'm gonna tell you what you ain't getting
out of the five right now. If you're talking about
guys you'd want to play for them, that are that
have the the buy in from his team, and Campbell

(10:27):
liked Amiko Ryans is into that. And with the Texans
we discussed today something's missing from the two. They're six
and three something and more than whether it's it almost
at times, and I'll just tease this feels and watch
and I've thought about that, we'll watch back back to
the game again this second. I try to watch both
game twice a week and finally did again. There's something

(10:50):
missing and part of me feels like last years three wins,
cut it loose. They're a better roster this year, even
they've had two guys, but they're better roster.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
And cut it loose. We you got to lose what
another game?

Speaker 5 (11:05):
As we start to build, it's like Hall Pass rookie year,
but Demiko Ryans didn't let that sit in, right. I
almost feel like coming back this year with the expectations
so high, what happens when you have a high expectations.
Initially you protect them, Yeah, you protect them because don't
want to leunhim down, right, So.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
You don't play as aggressive.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
You play almost not to lose and to Okay, they're
talking about us if we just win ten again. I'm
not saying everybody thinks that, but there's got to be
that human nature. We've all been there and it doesn't
matter if it's your business make a big sale. I
don't want to screw it up, so let me whatever
it is. And I almost feel like the play caller
even listen, you could say what you want. I know
he's on his ass all the time, but even c J. Stroud,

(11:45):
he's not playing the same aggressive way he Now. I
understand playing on your ass is tough, but against this
last Thursday, he misthrows it.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
He'd make with a blindfold on. We've talked about he
just did.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
And I don't want to say you're entitled to, but
is going to happen as a quarterback. But and they
close games out, but the schedule doesn't get any easier,
and it is that the line did not play. I'll
tell you the one thing that's keeping going right now
is mixing in the defense. Defense is still pressuring. They're
playing their ass off and run around and the offense

(12:18):
quite frankly, if it's not one thing, it's another. If
it's not a penalty, it was a misthrow Thursday. And
if it's not a misthrow, it's a sack or a pressure.
The one thing I know the MVP of this team
is Joe Mixon period. And I'll tell you right now
it's not close.

Speaker 8 (12:31):
Now.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
Getting Eico Collins back will help, but what disappointed if
he comes back and they exploded?

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Tell you how good he is, and we already.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
Know, but you can't allow one guy to dictate that
your offense is that aggressive or not. I just feel
like they're playing a little bit more. They may not
tell us this, but from my visual I feel like
they're playing. You go back and compare, dude, you know
how you got the fat and skinny picture the before
and after. Ye go back and go back and take
a look at if you just watch games and say,

(12:59):
is this the same aggressive team? And I also think
they've got a crutch now, and it's the guy in
the backfield that I'm third and four.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
You can have to him get a first down.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
I'd use him more, but I'd use him and ex
spread him out, get him in, get him in the
pass game. We need to use him more in the
pass game here. But I just there feels like protect
that everybody loves us, so we mean, we got to
play like that. But the way they've played like that
was putting their foot on your throat last year. And
I just better roster. I know injuries. Offensive line is

(13:31):
not blocking anybody in the pass game. I just there
to be. I don't put them in the category of Detroit,
Kansas City Bolt I just don't. Right now, there's about
five teams that are in that category, and even though
they're six and three, it's not the same six and
three last year, we'd have been all out of our mind,
right six and three this year, I almost feel like
they're better than this, and I think they are. But

(13:54):
when you run against good teams that don't pressure the
quarterback and don't make mistakes, guess what, my friend, you
ain't You're you're not beating them.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
They they probably need to be more aggressive.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, I look at we can discuss this name nasty
too on the offensive side, But I look at like
I want to compare the rosters between the roster for
the Texans and the Lions. I think there's a lot
of similarity, but yet one play caller is doing one
thing and then Ben Johnson is an absolute wizard as.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
A non head coach play caller.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
He's the best in Right now, I'm talking about where
you're like, they're not Kevin O'Connor, you're not Andy Reid
as a guy who's just a coordinator without being.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
The head coach. It's it's not in question.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
Yeah, the guy who when this season's over is going
to be in the highest demand for assistant coaches in
this league is going to be him. It will be
a period, it'll be It's like Demiko on the a
couple of years ago. It's him and then everybody else. Right, well,
unless Belichick wants to come back, but I'm talking about
his coordinators, go, he'll be, He'll be. Hell My USC
Trojans may want to ask if if it doesn't start

(14:54):
to work out for Lincoln Riley getting beat by Washington,
I'm just telling you Ben Johnson is the and if
you if they're up on Sunday night thirty eight to
thirteen and it's the middle of the fourth courty, know
what he's gonna do. Probably, Oh, he's going to attack
you tell. I mean that is his mo o. And
he had not back and off. You're gonna have to
play your best game. This is the best team that
they have faced, and quite frankly, right now in for

(15:16):
my money, depending on where the game is is I
know the Mahomes factor. Detroit's a better team than Kansas City.
They just are, I think. So the way they're playing
in Kansas City's defense is just off the charts right now.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
So there you go.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Let's Let's look at those two rosters between the Texans
and the Lions. Why can't the Texans run the style
of offensive Lions and so forth, Let's talk about a
next on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Oh, also check this out.

Speaker 8 (15:39):
I should have warned you if sewn only cares about
cold hard.

Speaker 9 (15:44):
Back to the Sean Salisbury show on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
That I wanted to discuss this segment, Shawn, and obviously
we're going to talk about it all so long. When
it comes to play calling, simple question, has Bobby Slowick
taking a step back? I think the answer is yes,
but I wanted more than just a yes or no answer,
because I look at I look at the deed Detroit Lions,
and I look at their playmakers. Jared Goff is playing

(16:11):
MVP level football right now. You have Aman Ross Saint Brown,
which is one of the best wide receivers in the game.
You look at uh Sam Laport is a tight end.
You look at Jamiir Gibbs and uh David Montgomery, two
really good backs.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
They make me the deepest, the two best the combination
of backs in the league right now.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
But then you look at their wide receivers outside of
Amen Ross, Saint Brown, Alan Robinson good, good wide receiver,
Jamison Williams, he's suspended, Tim Patrick, Isaiah Williams, Khalif Raymond.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
And Tim Patrick's making plays every single week when I look.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
At their wide receivers, and I'm gonna use even when
Stefan Diggs was healthy, because this this offense has been
struggling even with when he was healthy. Stefan Digs, Nico
Collins and Tank Dell those three are better than this
wide receiving core for the Lions.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Oh, I would, I would say the same thing now,
Joe more productive.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Well, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
So so why can't Why can't the Texans offense and
in the style that they run, Why can't it be
similar to what Ben Johnson is doing with the Lions. Now,
I know offensive line and pass pro is a big
part of it, because the offensive line for the Lions
is absolutely nasty ding ding Those dudes are unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
The word nasty comes into play. I let me just
start here and I'll get to slow it. I believe
that this is gonna sound odd on the field. I
don't think the offensive nastiness and let other than the
dude who's carrying it in the backfield matches the nastiness
on the defensive side. Yeah, that's clear onetive at times.

(17:55):
The other plays aggressive out the ass and they were
more aggressive last year. So there's one thing for Detroit's
favor is the big fellows up front, nasty, mean, and
are as good as we have in the league. And
that's a good place to start, and that would change everything.
I do believe Bobby Slowik has taken a step back.

(18:16):
Now when you say that, people say you don't believe
in me.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Far from the truth, but far from the truth.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
Taking a step back doesn't mean you're not any good
and that you're not going to change it, and you
don't have the personnel and the wherewithal to change it.
This is just a step back on aggressiveness. I almost
feel like they're, like I said, he's a little more tentative,
which I think permeates through their own through the entire offense.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
And I get part of.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
It, Brian, because if you if you came in well
coach baseball, apply it to your league. If you had
a pitcher who was so good on your staff, let's
say your first three guys in your league.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Eight games in they've given up one run. I mean
they're Dante.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
You're looking at him saying those are aces for their
high school team. You got a kid throwing in the
upper eighties at fourteen, right ninety, I mean one of
those type, ye know, and you got three of them, right,
and all of a sudden, but you're and you got
some some bats that can explode, but you're up three
to one. Human nature is going to say, just don't

(19:14):
screw this up, right right, And he went the year
before when we weren't supposed to be good, and we
won the lead, we won the whole we won the
whole thing, and now coming back this year, but expects
us to dominate with these pitchers in the sitting. So
you get up and just applying it in a different way,
and you can go through any you know, it doesn't
matter what level.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
And I think what happens is.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
That they're protecting how good they are, that they're just
getting to point, let's not lose it. In the process
of doing that, they're putting themselves in a mind and
mixing is a great crutch, as I said. So yes,
Bobby Slowick liked the offensive line, like, uh, you know,
a few other thing. Penalties and stuff have taken a
step back this year, But sometimes there's a step back
that's not going from Raiders already fire. You know, Luke

(19:51):
Getsi and two other coaches, they just fine because they're
just not productive here. They're productive, but it's not as
consistent as we expected from last because they I think
they were almost an experimental what are we good at?

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Right?

Speaker 5 (20:04):
And remember this? Their running game was average last year?
So what did you have to do? Put the ball
in seven's hands, protect him and throw it. It's shifted
one hundred and eighty degrees now, so is it there?

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Yeah? You still got the weapons. Bobby Slow a cast.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
They have to come into a game saying their attitude
this week should be my defense is given up forty,
even though I don't. I don't think they're going to
give up forty to the lines, but that's the attitude.
As a coordinator, you go, we're giving up forty this week.
So if you're giving up forty, what is your thought
process going into the week in preparation?

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Score letting it rip?

Speaker 6 (20:33):
You got to score, like you always say from the
parking lote, that's right.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
What do you think Ben Johnson's doing. He's saying, they're
looking this is a good defense he does. They do
have CJ. Stroud, they do have weapons. Nico Collins hopefully
is going to be back.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
I should be.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
I'm assuming so, and so if he's not, it'll be
a concern because that'll tell you that it's the hamm.
He's still bothering him because it's been the four weeks. Right, Yeah,
he's eligible come up this week. So if you, if
you're Ben Johnson, what are you saying they haven't been
as good would be? You should expect them to explode
this week. We got to score forty five. And but
even if they're if the Texans lay ten on him,

(21:08):
he's gonna go.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
They got to score forty five. Yeah, so and we
saw that.

Speaker 5 (21:11):
So sometimes success can be the biggest enemy of the
year before because you take aggressiveness way. If they'll just
get back to nasty upfront, which they've got to be
more nat they I I you know what, give me
a guy who coaches got to grab by the jerseys
before he goes out and destroy somebody. I just don't
for some reason. Now, they may be nasty, but I'm
not seeing enough of it. They need to impress me.

(21:33):
But I can tell you this, ask the tray. If
there's a fistfight going on on the offensive line, which
side you taken right now?

Speaker 6 (21:38):
I would be taking sure you would.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
Just from the just from the optics.

Speaker 10 (21:42):
Right.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
So they sew that up, things will go different. But
Bobby Slow can help them, not protection wise, but can
get back to saying you should approach it like Joe
Mixon is not in your backfield, even though he is. Yeah,
and attack your ast. That doesn't mean throwing it into
coverage and all that. It just means if you got
to throw nine straight times, throw, if Mixon's carrying it
for six yards of carry, run it till they prove

(22:04):
they can stop it. I know it's easier said from
where we are than Bobby Slok. But Bobby Sloke became
a household name last year. Yeah, by doing what putting
the ball in seven's hands and attacking every inch of
the field.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
They're not doing enough of that this year.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Yeah, let's talk continue this discussion about the Houston Texans.
What's missing with this offense for the Texans. That's next
Sportstocks having.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
Cert of Pro painters sort of with a c curt
of pro Painters Sertapro dot com for your free estimate
and each and every curt of Pro business individually owned

beat everybody about them. Army guy, good military guy. Love
our Guiddale curt of Pro and I'm so grateful. I
was looking at my house over the weekend, went and
saw my kids, came back and thought, you know, because

(22:47):
my son had a really good gig going on with
his home, and I thought, you know, let me see
my paint job.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Boom matched it and it looks great.

Speaker 5 (22:54):

Speaker 1 (23:37):
There for The Sean Salisbury Show continued. You broke my
heart because I couldn't dance.

Speaker 11 (23:47):
You didn't even on me around, and now I'm back
to let you know I can really shake them down.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Mike McCarthy's days as the head coach era numbers.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Oh yeah, he's he is. Uh, he wont to be
the head coach of the Cowboys next year.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
You want to think about it? Do you start to
think about looking at teams right now? Is Brian Dable
gonna be Is he going to keep his gig? They
got beat it last going to keep I don't know
if Antonio, I mean, I love him to death, but
the Raiders are struggling.

Speaker 6 (24:16):
Was it the lion? No, not the line, I'm sorry,
who did the.

Speaker 9 (24:20):
No.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
The Bills beat the Dolphins on the last second, sixty
one yard field goal. Yeah, yep, my God, Titans beat
the Patriots in overtime.

Speaker 5 (24:28):
That's what it was.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Yeah, Titans beat the Patriots in overtime.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
The Saints lose to Carolina, Right, that didn't happen yesterday
twenty three, twenty two. Was that the did the Saints
was a Carolina.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, Carolina to beat the same point, right, Yeah, and
Chris Lobby and went to the hospital.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Yeah, and I.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
Got knocked out.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
I thought I saw he was aware and okay.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
He was all all uh movement in his extremities. He
is okay, but it was a scary do he got
sandwiched which on a hard hit went down. Obviously, he
was knocked unconscious. He had to be uh stretchered out
of there. Just terrible, man, just just not not good.
And then Michael Thomas, former Saint, went on a tie
rade on Twitter, calling out Derek Carr saying that.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
This is what he always does. So forth and so on.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
I've got that in our notes to talk about later
on in the show. Seven seven ninety is the number
two joints. Get out to the phone lines and talk
to Steve. Steve, welcome in, good morning.

Speaker 12 (25:21):
Hey, good morning, guys. I got I got into the
truck late. So if you guys already talked about this,
I do apologize. But I was listening to the sports
last night and.

Speaker 11 (25:32):
Uh C J.

Speaker 12 (25:33):
Stroud's press conference, and I want to ask you guys
a question. You know, he's two things, he said, pointing
fingers and buying into the system. Now, so far, the
only part of this team that would be any finger
pointing would be the offensive line or the offensive coach.
So I wasn't sure about that and wanted to get

(25:55):
your opinion. My second one was buying into the system.
This is the same system that they've been running now
since last year. And when he said buying into the system,
is it the offensive line? Is it the the quarterback
not buying? Buying into the system?

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (26:11):
What?

Speaker 12 (26:11):
What exactly should we make of this? And I appreciate
the call and thank you for taking my call.

Speaker 14 (26:18):
I have a good day.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Appreciated, Steve, enjoy your day.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Buying?

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Okay, Man, I think it's a fair question, Sean, What
what what when f C J. Shrouds talking about buying,
It's the same system, right?

Speaker 5 (26:31):
Is this for me?

Speaker 3 (26:32):
It's just I understand, I understand the offensive line is
not very good on pass protection, Obviously you see what
the hell what.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Run very good?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
They're not good at all is running the hell out
of the football. So obviously they're doing something right on
the run, no doubt run protection.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
Remember we talked think about the patients with Mixing has
the jump cuts that he's making that we couldn't make
last year because they just didn't.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
It's just different.

Speaker 5 (26:55):
They didn't understand that inside zone and outside zone we're different.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
That's why ap Peers strugg to get on the field.
So I understand that part of it. But then my
concern outside of that goes back into the play calling
for Bobby Slowick. So this is where to go into
Steve's question, is buying. We're talking about the same system,
so what well, who's not buying any.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
That's what I don't And when they say no finger pointing, well,
they're not going to finger point in their own locker room.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
I can tell you this though.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
If the defense plays well and the offense continues to
take sex, they're already finger pointing under their breath.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
I can already tell you that.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
I'm not saying outlet Every team does it where it's like, man,
we got to get this thing. Whether it's finger pointing
or trying to make the improper adjustments. The elephant in
the room is we know the problem right now some injuries,
but a lot of teams have them, and not only
just the injuries, but the offensive line pass pro So
it's not even a matter of finger pointing from my
fantash point, it's just pointing out the facts.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
They've got to be better.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
And if you can't realize that a player, you're offended
that we tell you got to be better in pass protection,
then you ain't watching the tape on I'm talking about them.
Then they're not watching the tape objectively looking at it properly.
The truth of the matter is most athletes that I
know when they're not playing well know it and don't
need to be told it.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Now.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Some are living in a fantasy world in sports, but
I would think that the offensive lineman beat to a
different drum a lot of times, and they kind of
get it because they you can in a room and
assist them. They can be critical of each other and
walk right out there. Some are a little more sensitive,
usually old lineman aren't. I don't know the feeling in
their locker room, how it air in there. Into individual
meeting room. I'll tell you this, though they I don't

(28:29):
know what they mean by buy buy in. You're not
buying into the play calling. You're not buying into the alls.
We heard last year was everybody buys in. And I
told you when you hired to meet around, you got
to have these. You've got to have talent on the team,
you've got to get buy in, and you have to
have great leadership if you want to and they had
all three of those last year.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
So how do you not buy in?

Speaker 14 (28:49):
This year?

Speaker 5 (28:49):
Your roster's better. Guys are getting opportunities because two receivers
have been out, so those guys can step up. Offensive
line has got a bunch of first round label next
to it, got to play better. And I'm sorry that
Keny greens out. It's a bummer. It really is a bummer.
Before that, we shouldn't cheer that either. No, you should
playing well. He was getting dominated. Might he would have
he should have been benched even before the injury, is

(29:11):
my point. But that's it doesn't mean he's not a player.
But he's got a lot of fixing to do and
a lot of nasty But you just can't get pushed
back like you're playing on your heels because those other
guys on defense in a lot.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Of places are pretty damn good. So they've got to
fix it.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
So buy in and the finger pointing and buy in
to me, everybody's going to point to weaknesses in and
out of the building and try to get him fixed.
But if you don't have buy in, were we missing?
Staff's the same? You got the rosters upgraded? How do
how do we not have buying?

Speaker 11 (29:44):
So?

Speaker 5 (29:44):
I don't know. I didn't see us or hear his
press conference, so I'm not really sure what that means.
If he's talking about finger points from fans, you're gonna
get that everywhere. But if it's buying in the building
and you can feel that someone, why would he make
that statement.

Speaker 6 (29:56):
I don't know if.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
You're if you're if you're feeling the fact that there's
not enough buy in in the building. I don't want
to speak for CJ. Stroud because I am not c
J Stroud obviously, and I don't sit with him after
a game and talk about it.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
But if you're CJ. Stroud, who did.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
I don't know anybody bringing in to is everybody buying in?
That was the question asked last year, right, and everybody
bought into the two to ten wins, And why wouldn't
they buy in so this year? Why, Well, who's brought
up buying? So to me, if he's bringing it up,
I don't want to speak for him, almost speak from
my vent. How I would interpret it is that the

(30:35):
buy in factor that they can feel it in the building.
And if he's talking about buying and finger pointing, if
that's in the building, well then they got to fix
out themselves. You and I can't fix out. So that's why.
And I don't know how else to gather from it
outside the building. Fans in any city, you have a
bad game, what are they going to do? Judge the

(30:56):
hell out of you. It's the way it works. But
if you're a team that doesn't really care what other
people think, that it's you against the world. The mentality
that most teams try to have that it's in the building.
So if it's finger pointing and buying in the building,
then somebody better nip that in the bud right off
the bat. And I'll tell you what. There's a feeling
on a team here they are six and three, but
when you're getting manhandled at the line, of scrimmage and

(31:16):
pass pro. You know what it does. It feels like
three and six. There's six and three in the first place.

Speaker 6 (31:21):
Yeah, they're leaving their division.

Speaker 5 (31:22):
By by a minute too, So get it fixed. But
the thing is, we're not just looking at a team
to get to the playoffs this year. You're looking at a
team do you want to play? Play into January and
see if you've got a chance to get places and
right now protecting the path you can't because he may
he may not be available. You keep knocking his ass
on the ground, that's right. So yeah, so if buy

(31:43):
in and finger point, if if CJ is talking about
in the building, then that's something they're going to have
to take care of. You.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
None of us outside that building can fix that.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
No, No, that's stuff that you can't. You can't. The
players themselves have to control that.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
There is absolutely no question and even a coach that's
you know, it gets to a point where you got
to have be self critical to fix it and whatever
it takes to go to work. Because like I said,
if you're going if your social media is your judge,
then you're then I would suggest you don't look at it.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
I one thing that will that continues to baffle me
with this season. This is want to tease for next segment.
How in the hell is the Texans O line so
good with run blocking and so poor with pass protection.
That's what I want to discuss next. I just don't
understand it.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
I want you to take different which they They're like
thirty eight different It was like it was thirty plus.
I think it was like thirty four thirty five different
O line combinations last year. This Day've had more consistency
on the offensive line this year as far as starting lineups.
And they're head and shoulders worse. Okay, then what does
it tell you? Are they too comfortable?

Speaker 3 (32:50):
So that's that's I want you to take me back
to your playing days and I want to go into
the locker room and I want to know what type
of dudes the Texans might have offensive line.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
There may not be a Hall of Famer on their
team right now on an offensive line. I had two
on the same left on the left side. Two of
them are in and both of them would were the
nicest guys in the world. But we'll tee when you
will talk more about it. But on the field, yeah,
that's what I'm saying like trained killers. Yeah, where's that at? Well,

(33:21):
I can tell you. Random McDaniel lives in Minnesota and
Gary Zimmerman lives in Oregon. Go talk to them. Yeah,
they'll tell you and show you. I got a lot
of tape to prove it. And it didn't matter what
it was great pride. Every day. You beat them once
and they were pissed for three weeks. That's how they played.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Yeah, let's discuss that more on the other side. Next,
in sports Stock seven.

Speaker 9 (33:38):
Ninety, the Shawn Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 5 (33:43):
And now you know.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
That's so toxic.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Yeah, man, I know, toxic man masculinity. Yeah, god, you know,
I mean you know what I'm saying, tripoli. Yeah, I'm
just toxic maxcellent macalenity, maxillinity, maxcellentity, maxillinity coxick maxil Yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
Yeahsick max masculinity.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
Come on, dog. Yeah, you know what the best thing
to do about that? Don't dig? Don't ever say it, okay,
because you can. You want the X in both, right,
you know what I'm saying. Dude, crazy? But yeah, there
you go.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
Yeah, yeah you got Oh my gosh, Alex Bradman wins
the gold Glove. Dude, I'm just you know, all right,
let me get these headlines. Alex Bregman wins a gold glove.
Rockets are back in action tonight against the Knicks. Seven
forty five tip off, six forty five launch pad right
here on seven on your home for Rockets Basketball. We're
talking Texans here on the Sean Salisbury Show, Sean Bryn
and Tripley here with you.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
All right.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
All I'm saying is we're talking about the toxic masculinity.
Tomorrow is election day, Dude, I'm so burnt out in
these damn political ads. Can we get this thing done tomorrow? Like,
come on today and let's and let's let's move let's
move forward.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
You know, I am so imagined.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
I would imagine you probably won't have to wait till
Thursday to know the result. You have to you made
just the final where there's a stamp on it. I
would have a hunch you'll have a pretty good idea
later tomorrow night. I didn't sleep much last night, you know,
with the day and travel and all that stuff, And
I don't anticipate much sleep tonight either, yeah or tonight,
but tomorrow night we're talking about. Yeah, So I would imagine,

(35:18):
but the ads are both ways just madening and I'm
sick of them. Listen, if I don't know by now
who I'm if you're changing my vote by now, I
really wasn't solid in my vote, even though I've already voted.
My point is is, if you're that, I mean both ways,
I'm talking about everybody. I'm not just talking about one
side or the other. The celebrity worship in this country,

(35:39):
why don't you just say, hey, instead of me worship
these celebrities, why don't you just have them come tea
bag your ass?

Speaker 14 (35:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Why did you just lay there and have him flap
them on your forehead? Because that's what it's like. Do
you really think that? And I'm just throwing names. I
don't even know who they endorse. Matter of fact, I'll
pick one that I don't know who, Alan Jackson or
Chris Rock. I mean I can't. I thought I saw
a video we're going. I'm just doing name athlete. I
don't care Tom Brady whatever whatever it is, or J. J.

(36:08):
Watt whoever they endorse. In truth, think about this, if
the roles were reversed and you were on there, and
the is the athlete judging from you, they're voting for
I mean, I know they all do it. It's fine.
And Andy, I'm not voting for one guy because Hulk

(36:30):
Hogan give speech. Yeah, and and and or Le'Veon bell okay.
And I'm also not rooting for the other because j
Lo fake teared us, or because Leonardo DiCaprio told me
we should. Now if they stand up there and say
here's the two reasons why one's better, Oh, listen to anybody,

(36:50):
but Andy Reid's not deciding who I vote for. And
another thing, I'm gonna say this as loud as I want,
because we don't. We joke about Paul to full play
from Just Have Listen. We laugh at everybody and more
at ourselves than anybody else. Is if I got to
lose a friend now, I'm never losing a friend for it.

(37:12):
They may have a problem, and I told you guys
do it before the show. My best high school female
friend couldn't be oh and a family member couldn't be
any different than me. And to this day she's still
my best love her to death, and she's one that
was with the guy all the time, just one of
those agis always a lover. And her older brother was

(37:34):
a center on the football team, great human being, just
great people, completely different than I think, And at no
time has it ever do We may laugh about it
one time every four years, we don't.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
There's never.

Speaker 5 (37:47):
So if your vote loses a friend, shame on them
because I am never losing. I'm not losing a friend. Now.
I can't control both sides of it because I'm never
shoving it down somebody's throat or anything. And you know what,
you got to get over it, regardless of no matter
what say, because on Wednesday you're gonna wake up.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Whether you like it or not.

Speaker 5 (38:06):
You can then if you want to go sit in
a hole and take a time out the next four years,
whatever you have, so deal with it.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Just deal with it.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
But I just the celebrity worship do I do? Do
I really? Am I really going to vote because some
players stood up there, some uh, some actor. No, I
don't care what they think, no hints. That's why we
all have a vote, right, and my vote is not
if you were one hundred and eighty degrees different than me,
We're still going to have the same chemistry and laugh. Yeah,

(38:33):
you just pick and choose your moments, right. I just
the hatred that goes on because of it. I can
never friggin remember my parents hating friends because they thought different.
It everything came up in our home.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
I don't even remember, like obviously the conversation ever coming up,
right exactly, And I.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
Didn't know what side you were on. I didn't know
who who you were going to vote, and I didn't
care matter, right, And I didn't care, like when it
comes to friendships, it didn't matter.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
Listen, now, what's so?

Speaker 5 (38:57):
How many different people on your football or baseball or
basketball team thought different than you?

Speaker 4 (39:00):
A lot of them?

Speaker 5 (39:01):
Yeah, right? But why are they allowed to think different
about race religion? When I say different about race where
they come from and their heritage and the rest of it.
Why is that? But when it comes to politics, we
always everybody wants to fight, Yeah, because you think different.
We talk about all the free where you get to
vote how you want, no big, it's awesome, we all have.
Yet if you punch a ballot some way and somebody
knows they're mad at you forever, it's like, why so

(39:26):
three hundred and twenty million, we're all well, not all
or well?

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Maybe a seven year old vote in this one. I
don't know. Eight year old. But you get my point right,
A couple hundred million people.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Why is it that I'm supposed to be mad at
somebody who has a different thought process than I do.
I've never understood, I honestly, Now, if you're one of
those that you're just a complete son of a bitch
about it and just mean about it to people. I
just never understood the mean We all joke about stuff,
but when it comes down, I'm gonn vote who I
want no matter what you think. And if I lose
a friend over it, screw you. Yeah right, I just

(39:57):
have never understood. This is the last we'll talk about
this until. But my point is is that I've never
understood if I hated everybody that voted different than me,
my circle, get a lot smaller man.

Speaker 6 (40:09):
That's a lot and and and I'll never do it.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
Some may you may. I got a great idea, grow
your ass up and don't talk about it at the
table or when you're out having a beer.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
If you can't handle it, then don't talk about it.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
Yeah. Other than that, I really don't care how other
people think, because you know what, it's all, it'll rear
its head on the on the fifty one percent are
gonna love one and forty nine percent are gonna love
the other. Yeah, that's the way it is all the time.
And guess what I'm gonna do on Thursday. I'll be
here going to work, Wednesday, going to work, just like
everybody else will. You may be pissed or happy, or
celebrate or hung over, whatever, but guess what in January?

Speaker 4 (40:43):
What are you gonna do?

Speaker 5 (40:43):
In March?

Speaker 4 (40:43):
What are you gonna do?

Speaker 5 (40:45):
It's even the candidates themselves, the constant. I'm past, just
get I'm done with I'm done with it. There's plenty
of blithering idiots and politics. You just got to choose
which blithering one you want.

Speaker 6 (40:57):
That's on both sides. That's what I'm talking about. That's
on both sides.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
Take and have that. The key is you want to
be safe.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
Whatever your keys are in your life, right, and you
just want peace right. I wish the way I wish
there was a vote on peace. Who's going to give
everybody the most peace?

Speaker 4 (41:13):
I just it's baffling to me. I'll never hate you
for it. If you hate me for it, that's on you.
I don't have to explain anything to you.

Speaker 14 (41:19):
That's on you.

Speaker 10 (41:20):
That's on you.

Speaker 6 (41:21):
Problem.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
All right, Let's talk more about this offensive line for
the Houston Texans. Obviously they're struggling in past protection. Why
are they so good when it comes to run blocking?
And also where does the offensive line coach come into
play with these struggles. That's next on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 15 (41:37):
To eighty KBM E Houston, HDT Houston and I Heart
Radio station The Astross the Rockets, Rockets your home for
your home teams.

Speaker 16 (41:50):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Shawn Salisbury, NFL USC Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
Ryan Lima, Go Lobos. This is the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
Texans preparing for the Lions on Sunday Night football Cowboys
beat by the Falcon seven to one, three two point
two five, seven ninety is the number.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
Joint.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
Got a couple guys I want to get in on
this Texans conversation. We'll start with John John, welcome in.

Speaker 10 (42:29):
Hey, how you doing man?

Speaker 5 (42:31):
What's happening?

Speaker 17 (42:35):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (42:35):
The Lions are pretty team man.

Speaker 12 (42:37):
I think Jared Golf should be in the m VP
conversation and Dan Campbell should be in the Coach of
the Year conversation and they also got.

Speaker 5 (42:46):
This get number ninety on the dat time.

Speaker 10 (42:48):
Man, that's our office.

Speaker 18 (42:51):
Man, Uh, I think be slow with the up.

Speaker 5 (42:58):
Tripley.

Speaker 3 (42:58):
Can you talk to John. We had some connection issues
on that end. Sound like a little bit of a robot.
See if we can get that fixed, then we'll go
to our guy, Adrian. Adrian, good morning, good.

Speaker 10 (43:08):
Morning, welcome back Ryan from your day arrest.

Speaker 5 (43:11):
Thank you, sir. I had to pick on you this morning.
We missed a Friday.

Speaker 6 (43:15):
Yeah, I know, man, I appreciate it. What's happening?

Speaker 19 (43:19):
Uh not this offensive line? I don't understand something I
don't know. Maybe Sean can explain this. Last year, our
offensive line goes to shambles. Everybody's thinking the worst. We
get the best from all the replacements, and everybody's yeah,
we can't wait till this team gets back and offensive
line is healthy. How is it the offensive line we

(43:41):
waited for?

Speaker 5 (43:42):
That's all nice and healthy.

Speaker 1 (43:44):
There's worse than the guys that they're replacing.

Speaker 19 (43:50):
Number two CJ. Los Nico last year for a few
games and his percentage went up in completions. All the
replacements were good. We've been they're seeing that.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
How is it this year?

Speaker 5 (44:03):
Nico? Goes out.

Speaker 19 (44:05):
We have a brand new replacement, We have a brand
new running back, and the backups are worse. I don't
understand what's going on over there, but we got what
eight days till the Lions get here. We might as
well put the obituary in the paper right now, to

(44:25):
go in and put him out until next season. If
the Lion feed like everybody else has been feeding off
this offensive line. And I hope the phone calls over
there in Nick Casario's office this week. He doesn't pick
up just one lineman, he picks up two or three.
That way, when we get back to football things this week,

(44:46):
they walk in, they see the new faces. Yeah, we
said we were gonna get it fixed.

Speaker 5 (44:51):
So now everybody's job is on the line. You fellas,
have a good day.

Speaker 19 (44:56):
I'm off about to go shopping with the daughter, so
I'm out here and then my morning medication.

Speaker 6 (45:01):
And to the rest of y'all, hey appreciate Adrian, a
little powered up dog like it.

Speaker 4 (45:07):
I wish I had an answer for him as to why.

Speaker 5 (45:09):
I've tried to tell you how I feel, But the
simple it comes down to the simple execution. None of
us know why they're not other than we watch if
it's bad technique or what have you. Everybody has an
opinion but valid point on how they took a step backwards.

Speaker 4 (45:23):
And I hate to.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Break it to you, Adrian, but we're not eight days
away from it. And we're now six days away from
Sunday night football, right and so, and then the draft,
I mean the UH draft tomorrow, trade see the trade
deadline after trade deadline tomorrow, and Uh, I don't think
they're going to be able to get three linemen. Most people,
if they're in it, aren't given away linemen. And if

(45:48):
they're out of it, they're going to try to fleece
you knowing that you're struggling past protection and that one
of your starters is now hurt. So I would like
to think they had somebody. The question is where you
if you go to the raid, can you go get
somebody on there? Because they're firing coaches and moving on
teams that are like, oh there. I don't want to
say finished. I mean, look at the Rams. Rams were

(46:11):
finished weeks ago. Now they're at five hundred and in
the hunt in the NFC West, So can you go
pluck alignment from somewhere? But remember they have to come
in and learn the verbage unless you get him from Minnesota,
San Francisco, Cincinnati one of those teams that has the
same verbage as you you know around the league. So

(46:34):
if you're gonna win the titles, probably with who's in
the building now and who's healthy, can you go get
one for depth and a guy who's he may not
be a Hall of Famer as an offensive lineman, but
is a productive player, maybe a traded the line. What
are you gonna give up to get him?

Speaker 4 (46:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (46:48):
I would imagine they're making calls and do you need
another weapon maybe depending on how bad n Eco cons
is and knowing that Stefan Diggs has done for the year,
so upgrade. But the truth is, if you're gonna win it,
what's in the building right now is going to be
the difference, not outside the building. Even though we all
wish that we could get you know, another great, another
big time you can go out and snatch a big

(47:09):
time receiver and then you can grab a depth somewhere
else and get a stud all pro offensive lineman that
somebody's trying to part with because they don't want to
pay a salary. I got news for you, Trent Williams
ain't available, But I get Adrian's point. Let's keep on
getting out to the phone line seven one three any
good morning?

Speaker 13 (47:28):
Oh yeah, you're right you and it's gotta be inside
that office and with it again said, people behind the
starting guys are not as good as the starting guys.
So yeah, they're in the world hurts. So it's up
to Bobby Slowick to figure it out. Basically, he's got
to figure out how to protect his quarterback and what

(47:50):
scheme he can run to do that. Do you have
any pass attempts? You don't many catches Mixing had last game?

Speaker 7 (47:58):
Uh what?

Speaker 4 (47:58):
Maybe one or two?

Speaker 7 (47:59):
Maybe?

Speaker 13 (48:01):
How about Zebra, a guy who was one of probably
one of the top five running backs is catching the
ball out in the backfield over the last four or
five years, and you're not utilizing it, and especially where
you meet him to maybe help with a defensive end

(48:22):
and then slide out into the flat. I'll take Mixing
out in the flat against the linebacker twenty four to seven.
That's just that's just stupidity. Now do you remember the
first play that the offense were handed last week?

Speaker 10 (48:36):
Do you remember?

Speaker 13 (48:36):
Now, look at this, but this is the first play. Right,
he's having trouble with the offense. The offense is struggling, and.

Speaker 18 (48:45):
This is the first play.

Speaker 13 (48:46):
Do you remember that? Do you remember the play?

Speaker 4 (48:48):
I don't.

Speaker 16 (48:49):
We don't.

Speaker 13 (48:50):
Okay, I'm gonna tell you. You know why I remember
it because I'm sitting at my neighborhood bar and I
look over at my buddies and I go, he has
no clue.

Speaker 10 (48:59):
He runs.

Speaker 13 (49:00):
He spreads two wide receivers left two right, mix it
in the backfield. The far left wide receiver is Stover,
so that means a cornerback is going to cover him.
No linebacker is going to run out and cover a
tight end far out. They clear out, They clear out,

(49:22):
everybody runs deep and Stover runs ten yard and in
and the cornerback is draped on him. And I thought
to myself, that's the number one play you want to
run instead of instead of running everybody deep and run
a tank dell across the middle. My goodness, this guy.

Speaker 14 (49:47):
Just lost it.

Speaker 13 (49:49):
He cannot and he hasn't done anything to help c
J out. And look, CJ is struggling too, And there's
a reason there was the person giving up the sacks. Right,
I'm guessing they're probably the worst im pressures as well.

Speaker 4 (50:03):
Yeah, they're at the lowest there, they're at the bottom
of the league.

Speaker 13 (50:05):
Yep. And you mean I think the defense is the
top league giving up touchdown passes.

Speaker 5 (50:09):
And pressures and tackles for loss. Yeah, they're they're near
the top.

Speaker 14 (50:13):
Andy.

Speaker 5 (50:13):
Let me let me explain to you one thing. I
get what you're saying on that one. I don't know
who went out and covered when you call that. I
can tell you this in preparation when you shift normally,
and I wouldn't put U who was it to shifted
out again that you said what tight end?

Speaker 4 (50:29):
Wasn't Schultz?

Speaker 5 (50:30):
It was over?

Speaker 4 (50:31):
Yes, over?

Speaker 5 (50:31):
Okay, here's the deal. And I can tell you this
unequivocally that percent time is a guarantee how you feel
when a guy like that shifts out. I don't know
who was on him. I'll go back and look, and
I wasn't pay attention if it was a corner, a
linebacker of safety. I can tell you this though, ninety
nine percent of the time, it won't be a corner.
When you're tight end or full back or somebody shifts out.

(50:54):
You do if you're playing zone and not man, they
just stay too. Stif if you're covered too, it's two,
stay too. You're just going to play it, you know,
to play it where it's it. We're cover two, we're
in zone, so it doesn't matter who's there because you're
in your own zone. If it's man coverage, I assure
you when I called it, I'd put it in too,
creating a mismatch. Thinking if I see it all the time,

(51:14):
a tight end or a running back will shift outside. Well,
you saw it with the Texans reverse it. They put
DeVante Adams in the slot and they covered him with
Jalen Petree. No sense, No, no, you can't, you can't
do They need to call time out or adjust. That
needs to be a corner. So when you went bought

(51:36):
from Bobby Sloan, and I'm not defending their lack of aggressiveness,
but when Bobby slowk sends out Stover to stretch him out,
if they're in man, you know what they're looking for.
That would be a safety or a linebacker that walked
out with him. You're not going to cover Stover with
a corner. You're wasting your corner in man. In zone,
they're just gonna So I don't know was it zone
or man coverage? I'll have to go back and look,

(51:58):
because if they if the if the corner stayed there
and there's two high safeties that the corner stayed there
and nobody went out with stover, that tells me it's
zone because normally when you call that, you're anticipating if
it's man, a linebacker safety to walk out with that receiver.
You want corners on receivers, not safeties or linebackers. You

(52:21):
want linebackers on tight ends or h backs or fullbacks.
So if it was zone, then it wouldn't matter. If
it's man, it's not gonna If it's man, then that's
a defensive mistake because you do not want a corner
covering a guy who's not real big in your pass
pro and you're throwing the football. So I'm gonna go back,
I'm gonna find it. And if it's zone, then it

(52:43):
wouldn't matter. They're trying to figure out when they shift
a guy out there, who's going out with him, because
if a linebacker does go out, you know what coverages
man Now you could still run it. So there's there's
a method of the madness that's not I mean, you
do that to find out on the first play of
the game. He said it was a first play, right, Yeah,
you do that to find out what they're doing defensively
on the Yeah, if the linebacker didn't go out with him,
I'm here to believe that it was zone. But Andy

(53:05):
saw it and I'll go back and check it out.
So I get why you full back ahe backer tighten,
you flex him out there early to find out how
are they going to defend this rest of the game.
It's not that you're planning on throwing it to Stover.
You plan on working somebody else because you're hoping you've
got a mismatch elsewhere.

Speaker 3 (53:21):
Yeah, let's we'll continue this discussion, but first we got
to get to the stakeout. Next on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
We're gonna have to turn this matter over to Sean
Oh no more Sewn Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (53:39):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 9 (53:42):
The Salisbury's takeout, Salisbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (53:51):
All right, sign for the steakout here on the Shawn
Salisbury's Show, Sean Brin and TRIPLEI here with you Rockets
back actionally tonight against the Nick seven to forty five
tip off six forty five launch pad right here on
seven ninety you're home for Rockets a basketball. Alex Bregman
w was the gold glove for third base Cowboys beat

(54:11):
by the Falcons and Sean for the Cowboy or for
the stakeout. I want to talk about the Dallas Cowboys.
They got beat last night. Excuse me yesterday afternoon. I
should say, uh, well because uh, Dak Prescott left the
game with a hamstring injury and then he was with
about three minutes four minutes left in the ballgame.

Speaker 5 (54:34):
Uh, the camera crew paanned to him.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
I believe this is he's talking to Trey Lance on
the sidelines and uh there's some lip readers out there,
and you can clearly say he looks at Trey Lance
and he goes, we fin suck.

Speaker 5 (54:51):
Well, you guys want the truth? Lie?

Speaker 6 (54:54):
No, I don't think he's lying. What in the hell
is going on with Dallas?

Speaker 5 (54:58):
We're not very good. I'm not even talking about the record.
Look at him. I mean, didn't they scratch Zeke Elliott
because of a team reviolated rule violation? What does he
bring into the table. He's a retread that's got no
tread on the retread. No disrespect to him. He had
a decent career, right, uh huh. There's a good player
in his heyday and tough and a good blocker and

(55:20):
a good runner and had his moment. He's nothing but
just a he's fill in a roster spot. He didn't
bring any production. And if he's not on time to
meetings and not doing all that, I mean, why I mean,
and then you get to I mean basically you're stealing
money when you're not just him. When you're in that situation,
name me, how many guys on that team moved the
needle for you as a talent? Does the head coach

(55:43):
move the needle for you? Quarterbacks?

Speaker 4 (55:46):
Good?

Speaker 5 (55:46):
But does he carry a team without when somebody can
he carry a team without talent? No, there are some
quarterbacks that can now make their team better. Dak Prescott
is great when the team's great, meaning they have personnel everywhere, right,
they run the ball well? No, how many weapons do
they have outside for the most part, For the most
part from Ceedee Lamb, who quite frankly looks like he's

(56:07):
disinterested at times this year as well.

Speaker 4 (56:09):
Yeah, he got hurt yesterday too, right, Okay?

Speaker 5 (56:11):
And then on defense when Michael Parsons is playing, he's
a beast, right, But does it look like the cowboy
defense is the last handful of years that we've seen
with Dan Quinn dominate it.

Speaker 9 (56:21):
No.

Speaker 5 (56:23):
So if that's the case and your field goal kicker
is one of your MVPs, you're probably in trouble. But
I don't know, what do you tell me? Offensive line?
Zach Martin's a good player? Do they dominate up front? Now?
They get pushed around and bullied? Matter of fact, you
can go into their building this year, not last year
where they couldn't be.

Speaker 4 (56:39):
Beating their building.

Speaker 5 (56:40):
You can waltz into their building this year and you
can eighty percent your way to forty points. Yeah, it's
a there are and a lot of If Jerry's the GM,
which he is, they did them know that team needed
eight different players, eight new players this offseason. And the
players they did get have they been what do they do?

Speaker 4 (57:01):
Great?

Speaker 5 (57:03):
Market Hence that's why you're that's why you're marketing. Your
marketing chief shouldn't be your GM. So, first and foremost,
they don't have enough good players. And secondly, those good
players underachieve under pressure That's as simple as I can
put it.

Speaker 3 (57:21):
Do you think Mike McCarthy survives, meaning unless Jerry Jones
I'm talking about like during the season, you think they're
gonna write it out.

Speaker 5 (57:27):
Let me ask you this in truth. Okay, you got
Mike Zimmer on the defensive side, he calls the plays,
does U McCarthy? What what's the advantage because no matter
what happens to this stage of the season, first of all,
they're not good enough to help, and interim coach ain't
changing it. He may win a game or two. Look
what happened. Look how long it took the Jets interim

(57:49):
coach to win a game and it had to be
against the text warts like of course, right.

Speaker 4 (57:53):
So here's a if you hire.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
An interim coach ten games into the season, twelve games
in the season, what do you do in five more
games firing him to right? So you play it out?

Speaker 4 (58:05):
Put it this way. If you play it out and
they don't keep winning, it makes the decision easy.

Speaker 5 (58:08):
Now. The only wild card is Jerry loves guys he
can control, and I wouldn't expect you to think he's
going to make a call to Bill Belichick. He won't
because then he doesn't get to be the GM and
the head coach and everything else. If he does, He'll
make a call to a guy that would take the
Dallas Cowboys job if they paid him one hundred and

(58:30):
fifty grand a year. You get my point, that guy.
So the Dallas Cowboys are talent they're not talent rich.
They've got some good players. The sum the parts are
far better than some and there's not many good parts.
So other than that, they're really good. Okay, you got that.
What scares you about the Cowboys unless Michael Parsons is

(58:52):
being blocks You gotta block that of three dudes. But
what scares you about them? Nothing?

Speaker 4 (58:59):
There you have.

Speaker 5 (58:59):
It's danger of finishing. I'll tell you right now. They
keep playing like this, they may end up in they're
going to challenge the Giants for last place in the
divisionikes because Philly and Washington are running away and hiding. Yeah,
Washington seven and two is one again that that Redskins
team is final. Sorry, I'm gonna tell you now. Everything

(59:21):
that we loved about C. J. Stroud you get out
of j Jdan Daniels accept and even better feet. I mean,
we got some pretty good young players in this league man,
and that kid is a different level as well. Yeah,
he's I think they're I think they're the best team
in the division. Philly is the most talented team roster.

Speaker 4 (59:43):
Head to head.

Speaker 5 (59:45):
Jayden Daniels can play with any quarterback in the division.
Matter of fact, I still while I like Jalen Hurts,
I think that if you said five years from no,
who's going to be the better three years from now,
I'll take the kid in Washington And I liked you.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
I think I think Jalen Hurts his leadership.

Speaker 5 (59:56):
He's just a better thrower than Jalen Hurts his and
they both have great feet, high football IQs for both.

Speaker 4 (01:00:02):
Yeah, it's it's impressive to watch that kid play.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
Yeah, with Philly, they are talented up and down that roster.
But they lost a j Brown again yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
He went out with uh happening. Ye man, he's a
huge weapon.

Speaker 6 (01:00:14):
Yeah, obviously it hurts my fantasy team too.

Speaker 5 (01:00:16):
Yeah, that'll cut you deep on. Damn it, man, damn it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
All right, let's get back to talking about these Texans
in the offensive line. So, with the struggles when it
comes to pass protection for the offensive line, what should
the play calling look like? Former uh NFL player lineman
Mark Schlareth wigs in on that, so we'll hear it
and we'll get Sewn's thoughts on it next right here
on sport Stock seven ninety, But the Shawn Salisbury Show

(01:00:41):
continued six forty five launch pad for the Rocks seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
Machine love it?

Speaker 5 (01:00:50):
Are you kidding? Yeah? Are you freaking kidding?

Speaker 6 (01:00:53):
You're gonna bet on this offensive line for the Texans.

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
Against Detroit?

Speaker 5 (01:00:58):
Probably not, Nope, but but am I gonna bet that
they're gonna get it fixed and play better. I'm going
to go glass half full home or they say you
can't play worse in pass protection. So there's only one
way to go, and that's up. Just a little more
nasty for me. I need you asked me about my
Minnesota guys real quick? Is done with your headlines? Yeah, yeah,

(01:01:18):
you asked me about it a couple sevenths ago. Tease
it so this n'll be paid off real quick. Our
offensive line in Minnesota was nasty and mean. The nicest
guy's more smart. Knew who to block, and they knew
who to get and how to get him, and their
pride was they didn't want a guy within three yards
of their quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
And listen.

Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
And you say, how do we now win this super
Maybe as a quarterback's fault because our guard attack, our
offensive line was was they would fight you, and you weren't.
You weren't getting away with anything. And technique wise, attitude wise,
smart wise, study wise, prep wise, random McDaniel and Gary
Zimmerman can make the argument, and I can go through

(01:01:57):
some offensive lines over the course of time Upshawn Shell
were on the same left side. I go through the
course of time that I would contend that that's one
of the five best one side of the lines that
we've ever had. Both are in the Hall of Fame,
and boy, there's five six Hall of Famers on that
one roster on a Carters in the Hall of Fame.
Dolman's in the Hall of Fame, John Randalls in the

(01:02:18):
Hall of Fame, Zimmerman's in the Hall of.

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
Fame, and Randam mcdam's in Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (01:02:22):
It almost felt like, man, what do we got the
seventy five Steelers seventy four Pittsburgh Steelers roster, five on
one roster and a defensive Player of the Year. Yeah,
there that isn't in the Hall of fame on the
roster and a noseguard that should be in the Hall
of Fame. Come on, son, I mean we were loaded,
freaking loaded, damn. And so with that, with those guys,

(01:02:47):
we rarely had any trouble running that way or protecting
the quarterback from there. And those two had to block
Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, Richard Dent, the best that you have,
Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael. It's three Hall of famers right
there for the for Chicago and we and they had

(01:03:07):
to block, you know, like I said, Reggie White, everywhere
you look, they had to block your best and they
rarely were you beating them.

Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
So that's the difference.

Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
And so it's unfair because right now there's no Hall
of Famer on the Texans guys five up front, we
had two of them in a dominant center, a guy
who's a judge now at right tackling Timberwin, who's who
was a beast as well. I mean, we were everywhere
you look, we had a player. So comparing those two,
that's it. It's hard for me to say because I've

(01:03:35):
been on teams and at sc Come on, dude, I
had Bruce Matthews and Don mostbar both first round picks,
so we didn't. I've been on teams I've been fortunately
pretty dominant line, and we won the Great Cup. I
had the best left tackle in football on my team
and the best center, both on the same team, and
they knew what they were doing to I had to
direct the traffic they needed, and the quarterback put them

(01:03:56):
in positions to be successful, and so did the coordinator.
So if you're not nasty, you can't survive at the position.
His camp, Yeah, and I think that's missing right now.
It is missing, There's no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
Mark Schlareth, former NFL guard him and Danny Parkins on
Breakfast Ball discussed the offensive line struggles for the Texans,
and Slareth kind of alluded to how the play calling
should be adjusted.

Speaker 5 (01:04:18):
This is what they had to say.

Speaker 20 (01:04:20):
The issue with the Texans is they're not protecting the franchise.

Speaker 14 (01:04:25):
CJ.

Speaker 20 (01:04:26):
Stroud getting sacked eight times by the Jets last night,
and he was already the third most sax quarterback by
sack percentage coming into the game.

Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
Stink.

Speaker 20 (01:04:35):
At this point, I think the question is will CJ.
Stroud survive the year? If Houston doesn't figure this out,
will you give that bait sacks.

Speaker 21 (01:04:43):
Does your offensive line have some issues? Absolutely, they have
some issues, But I'll point to the coaching more than
I'll point to the offensive line, because when you're down
to starters, you have to mitigate potential disaster. You look
at the three losses right now that the Texans have,
look at the pressure rates. Almost fifty percent of the

(01:05:03):
time that he draws back, he's under pressure. And then
four sacks, four sacks, eight sex. When you run the
ball like they did last night, and they ran the
ball exceptionally, well, then you better call a game better
based upon the problems that you're facing. So slow it
their offensive coordinator. You've got to use not only the

(01:05:24):
play pass action, but you got to use hard run
play action. And to me, it's the three step drops
the ball out of your hand quickly. It's the movement
of the pocket. It's changing the launch angles. It's getting
your quarterback outside the pocket and taking away the ability
to rush the passer.

Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
That's Mark Schlairt and Danny Parkins from Breakfast of All
that was on their episode on.

Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
The right, and I think alike, yeah, last week going
to the game, would I tell you that they had
to do. Change the launch point. Yeah, you can't drop
him back at the same spotal ten. What else did
I say? Quick game, ball's got to come out slant, slant, hitch, slant,
a double move and then get it done if you're
dropping back the same spot three five step three. When
I say three, it's not three rhythm. Just so people understand,
when you're under center of the quick game is one
two three out. When you're in the gun, it's catching release.

(01:06:08):
You don't even take a drop, it's catch flip, replace
your left with your right if you're throwing to the
right or the left, or take a little rocker step
or little cheap step boom, put your foot in the
ground and let it go. And if you're throwing it
down the field, like who's the best intermediate passer in
the league last year? This guy here was. Yeah. I
mean you hold the ball one two, three, four five
or one two three and take a hitch and let

(01:06:30):
it develop. They don't have enough time to get to
number two, let alone number one. So you see him
throwing and the built in time clock for a quarterback.
It's just human nature to say I've been hit fifteen times.
We have eight sacks. This ball's got to come out quicker.
It's hard for a ball to come out quick when
you're still running routes that are down the field. There's
no there's there's no shame in. If you're running the ball,

(01:06:51):
well keep running it. That's another thing with Schlaire's saying.
So there's got to be an element of run the ball,
naked boot, sprint, set up, sprint, stay on the run,
three step, drop from the gun, take a hitch and
throw the outcut, catch and release. When you catch it,
throw the slant round, come back in and come back with.

Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
The quick game.

Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
Hit mixing, a little slow screen, then get mixing, go
empty and get mixing. On a linebacker and let him
run a six yard option route with a three right break,
not hard, and a ball comes boom boom boom, balls
out and by it is incumbent upon Bobby's look, not
to ego. Fill it to where you can be aggressive
and still throw the quick game. Aggressive doesn't mean throwing
it into coverage and throwing it down the field all
the time.

Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
Aggressive means you can be aggressed.

Speaker 5 (01:07:32):
What if it's first and ten and you decide to
take a shot great second ten, You come back quick
game third and three boom mixing. Then you come back
on first and ten mixing in a screen game. There's
ways to mitigate trouble and pressure, but you got to
get help from the offensive line. But the play caller
can keep you out of Listen. You should never get
hit in the quick game as a quarterback. If you are,

(01:07:54):
then we got a problem. Yeah, you should never take
a hit at least before the ball's out in a
quick and if you're throwing in boom, catch and throw,
all needs to be out and that's how And then
what happens if you're the defense then you say, okay,
I'm not sure where CJ.

Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Stroud is going to be.

Speaker 5 (01:08:09):
You absolutely have to change the launch point, which has
been a bitch of mine for in quarterbacks, to it
if you want to help the offensive lineup.

Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
Because you know they're not good pass protecting. You just
know it.

Speaker 5 (01:08:18):
So you can sit there and overload your mouth with
your ass and say, oh, we're good. No, Neil, you're not.
I'm not saying they've said it, but I can just
tell you if they were good. This doesn't happen all
the time. And then you're without your two best receivers
that you trust to finish, and so you're waiting on
other guys who doesn't that don't have enough reps, football reps,
playing game reps that okay, got to hold a split
second longer, and that split seconds causing escapability and then boom,

(01:08:40):
sack or run into trouble and now it's third and
fourteen and mixing's taken out of the game. I know
it sounds simple, but the best coaches I've ever been
around take something that looks really, really sticky and muddied
and find a way to clear the picture. If you
can't get rid of clutter in your offense, then the

(01:09:01):
offensive coordinator needs.

Speaker 4 (01:09:02):
To change some things.

Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
And you go in in you may tell the players
we're really good upfront, we're going to be better, because
you want to build their confidence. But in those meeting rooms,
you better put a game plan in that says we
I'm not. Every game plan should go in dealing with
the biggest conflict and then adjusting from there, not the
other way around, where hey, we're great, we'll worry about
the conflict on game day.

Speaker 21 (01:09:20):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
No, your biggest conflict is protecting the passers. So you
better go into a game, protecting them without taking it.
If you're if you're assuming you're going to take fifteen
pressures a game, then that's fifteen plays. You better eliminate
and get the ball out. Quicker and the quarterbacks got
to get the ball out. Quicker can't hold it. Uh,
take a sack, throw it into the stands if that's necessary. Yeah,
get rid of the football.

Speaker 4 (01:09:39):
There's no doubt.

Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Let's continue this discussion about the Texans offensive line woes
sevene three two one two five seven ninety. We will
also get out to your phone calls next right here
on The Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Seven one three two point two five A seven ninety
is the number to join Brandon, Thanks for holding good morning,
Oh your morning.

Speaker 15 (01:10:03):
Guys.

Speaker 22 (01:10:03):
Love the show always and Sean agree with one hundred
percent on the points out there too. When your quarterback's
getting sacked eight times of the game, that's just a
physimal to head coach and to the work he goes
into the game. That was a former coach myself at
the high school level for over ten years, and I
tell you it's the little things and the small details
that really work for offensive lineman the footwork, keeping the
pad level low. I mean, just immediately firing their hands off,

(01:10:27):
Like I'm just like an old western movie, you know,
getting the shooting the guns out of a holster and
you know, being shot before your shot type thing. And
then the blocking scheme from the first level of the
second level to the third level, understanding the assignments and
the alignment of where it goes if you're playing a
three or five and that kind of thing. So no
excuses when players don't perform making millions of dollars and
letting a franchise quarterback get sacked eight times there too,

(01:10:48):
and like like Schlarry's is saying fifty percent of them
in those three games right there too. And just my
cowboy tech sean. I'm not a cowboy fan, nor am
my textan fan, but just kind of just a football
fan in general. Looking back, this should have been done
a long time ago. The first what second year McCarthy
should have been gone. I think Jerry Jones, and we've
said this many times, He's never gonna let go of
the reins of his team. He's never gonna hire a

(01:11:09):
president of football operations. I'm a Cardinal fan, John, and
I love monti osinfort. I love what he did in Detroit.
He's turning the Cardinals around right now. They're a game
over five hundred, they've won three in a row for
the first time in like three years. It's optimism there too.
But the director of football operations and a general manager.
I go back to the Ravens day Sean wh Ozzie
Newsome was a general manager putting together some great.

Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
Defense, phenomenal phenomenal GM.

Speaker 22 (01:11:33):
Player development, scouting, all that kind of comes into it too.
And I think that's the problem with Dallas is you
know they had their chance this offseason again to go
spend money. And you can say what you want to
say about it, and you know, Derrick Henry was available
six to eight million dollars. If we didn't have the money,
that's all bs when he comes down to it, he
just didn't get out there and beat the other general
managers to talking to ages and things like that. Maybe
he did, but honestly, you get the job done, you

(01:11:54):
sign a guy, or you suffer the consequences. Now three
and five, you know, Dax hurt, CD's hurt. Those contracts
came way late too. They overpaid for those guys. Anyway,
and I'm with you. This franchise has never been anywhere
in what twenty five years since the ninety five Super
Bowl and what one playoff win in the last fifteen
or something like that.

Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
So I'm not a cowboy fan.

Speaker 22 (01:12:12):
They're a bysible to watch, but I wanted to touch
base the trade deadline tomorrow, Sean, and talking about many
osin for with the Cardinals, just the job that he's
done since coming in. I love Jonathan Gannon, Drew Petsing,
and of course the Nick rawls over there to the
scheme they're putting out there to let Kyler get out
of the pocket more two or do you think the
Cardinals should should upgrade trade.

Speaker 14 (01:12:31):
Deadline, Sean?

Speaker 22 (01:12:32):
Maybe another offensive lineman or maybe that pass rush?

Speaker 14 (01:12:35):
What do you think?

Speaker 5 (01:12:35):
I think if you could do both, depending on what
you're willing to give up, I would because listen, Kyler
Murray is a lightning rod. When he's playing good, he's
one of the more talented dudes we have in the league.
When he's off forcing balls and running around trying to
be a hero, it becomes all They were going through
a trend where good bad good bet they're starting to
shape it up and it takes me. I think Dannon's

(01:12:57):
done a hell of a job with that. With what
he I would add another weapon or two and if
not in the draft. And like I said, they've got
good players, but I'm greedy. So anytime you ask me
for how do we get better and give more weapons,
I do everything I can to go get somebody else.
Because Marvin Harrison Junior going into this season, I said
that the safest pick in this draft for success was him.

(01:13:20):
I believe he's gonna have a great career. He's one
of those that for him not to be successful, he'd
have to miss the team bus every week. I think
he's gonna be a great player, and they are building
it right and it's coming upon Kyler to elevate his
play in his preparation and make sure he's doing the things.
And he seems to be doing it this year and
playing a lot better football without him having to throw

(01:13:41):
forty times or be a hero every week. That's how
I know they're getting better defensively. So another a guy
who can disrupt on defense. Anytime you can get another
wide out or playmaker and an offensive lineman to sew
it up big time and they're playing I use the
term nasty, but they're playing a lot more physical then

(01:14:02):
we've seen in the past with them recently. I like them,
and if they can be active at the trade deadline,
do it. If i'm them perfect opportunity to go win
their division. Why in the world would you not go
upgrade the good ones Baltimore, Kansas City do good rosters
and want to be better. I would expect them to
do something. But those are the three edge rusher, another
weapon no matter how you get it, and somebody to

(01:14:24):
protect the pass or more as.

Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
They continue to develop.

Speaker 5 (01:14:26):
I think Gannon of the Gannon Siriani and who's my
guy in Indianapolis?

Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
What's their head coach?

Speaker 10 (01:14:33):
Nandy?

Speaker 5 (01:14:36):
Right now? Early returns, I mean Sirianni's got the best roster,
but the way that they're headed the other the right way.
I almost feel like Arizona since they don't don't have
the players Philadelphia's, but they've got some that Gannon's got
them and their front office has them in the right direction.
It appears to be both those guys are not only
tied at the hip, but have the same philosophy on

(01:14:57):
how they're going to build the team.

Speaker 6 (01:14:59):
And real quick before get to the top of the house,
talk to Holly.

Speaker 17 (01:15:03):
Yeah, I just wanted to say something I've observed and
it might just be me, but I just don't take
the chemistry in this team. They don't have no oh
you know, no, it just seems like they don't have
any fire. And I just want to get your all
opinion on that. And if they don't fix that offensive line,
then TJ is gonna get hurt and then the season's
gonna be over it. Thanks you guys, have a good day.

Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
Thank you Holly, And let's discuss that as we get
into the eight o'clock hour. We'll continue to talk about
these Houston Texans and that embarrassing loss to the Jets.

Speaker 10 (01:15:33):
C J.

Speaker 6 (01:15:34):
Shroud sacked eight times.

Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
They got to figure it out because the Lions are
coming to town and they are one of the best
teams in the NFL. We'll discuss the next as we
get into the eight o'clock hour right here on the
Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Kb E Houston, k TV E HD two Houston.

Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
An I Heart radio station.

Speaker 9 (01:15:49):
Yeah, as a Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your home

Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Hoon. Okay, let's do this. Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
To usc truth, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.

Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
Rockets back in action tonight taking on the Knicks seven
to forty five is the tip off six forty five
launch pad right here on seven one, your home for
Rockets basketball. Alex Bregman winning the gold Glove four third base.
That is his first of his career. Cowboys beat by
the Falcons yesterday. We're gonna get through uh an entire
recap of NFL Week nine. Next segment seven one, three,

(01:16:44):
two point two five seven ninetys talk to Ray Ray,
Good morning, Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:16:49):
Good mor uh. I'm just curious. I mean, maybe I'm
an old school but maybe we should put like a
fullback in the backfield to protect Strouds more. I mean,
do we even have a fullback on the roster because
I never see them play with one. I know in
the NFL they want to try to get rid of
that position, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Speaker 5 (01:17:12):
They did have one.

Speaker 6 (01:17:14):
Let me find him.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
He went out early in this British Brooks was gonna
do some stuff for the full back position, but he
had a torn maniscus and had to have surgery back
in the middle of October.

Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
They got three tight ends. And tight ends should you
are usually better blockers pass protectors. They should be at
least in chipping because they understand it. Full back, you know,
when he's leading up into the hole in the run
game old school I back, you know, guy behind him
and got the fullback leading on the strong safety or
the edge or getting up on a linebacker and an ISO.

(01:17:46):
When it comes to pass protection, they've got enough able
body guys to do it.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
They're just not very good at it.

Speaker 5 (01:17:51):
So and how you keep them in and if it
gets to the point where you got a max protect
and run two man routes. My problem is when they're
rushing four, they still having trouble blocking with five or six.

Speaker 4 (01:18:04):
That can't happen. That cannot happen.

Speaker 10 (01:18:07):
Yeah, I saw it. I mean I'm like, once they
get and the thing is, you don't have anybody in
the back sold the blocker stroud once they get past
the line, I mean, he's dead meat.

Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
Yeah, it's it's what the ball's got to help hm out.
Ball's got to come out quicker with play calling, and
you know you're going. You're getting to the point where
it's going to be desperate if this keeps happening. And
this is this is a six and three team, and
we're i mean the unfortunate. The offensive line, pass protection
woes outweigh anything. They're doing great on defense and they're
playing some really good defense and their quarterback and they're

(01:18:44):
you know, we know what kind of game he's got,
but they have they have got to and Joe Mixon
is the MVP on offense and it's not close right now,
so they're gonna have to do something to help him
out or eventually what's going to happen. They're gonna start stuffing.
They're gonna run, blitz the run game, and you're gonna
make that tough on him, and then you're gonna put
him in a long yarded situations and the quarterback is
going to have to hold the ball longer.

Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
And that's that. That's not a good thing for the
Texans right now.

Speaker 10 (01:19:08):
Well, I guess you see where they need to go
in the draft. I mean they need it, that's.

Speaker 4 (01:19:14):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
And because it's it has not turned out the way
you we would have expected it too. So far, still
a lot of season left, but they've got some work
to do, no doubt about it.

Speaker 10 (01:19:25):
Well, at least we've got at least we got the
Cowboys liking what three weeks, two.

Speaker 5 (01:19:28):
Weeks, that's a get well game. Yeah, that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:19:33):
All right, guys, I'll have a great And Holly's Holly's.

Speaker 5 (01:19:37):
Point about uh, the umph that they're lacking. That goes
to me. I think we're on the same page, just
use different verbiage. I just feel that the aggressiveness on
the offensive side of the ball, defense, flying defense side
the ball, it almost feels like they're treading lightly, trying
to feel their way. This team didn't feel their way
last year. They were three win team. They took they
went after it and attacked got him along with some

(01:19:58):
good play defense. The they elevated their play and then
they got to it and it's almost like, okay, we're here,
how do we prevent from taking a step back? Just
you know, we got mix and just played safe and
we got a couple of injuries, Let's just play close
to the vest. Close to the vest is when you've
got a seven point lead and there's four minutes ago
and you can hand it to Mixing. Eight times in
a row and get home. But I feel from my

(01:20:19):
vantage point, I may be wrong, but from my vantage point,
it feels like they are there, that he who hesitates
is a little step late. I feel like there's some
hesitation in the aggressive part of it. And when I
say aggressive, that doesn't mean throwing deep shots every down.
Aggressive means you're playing fast, playing with some tempo. You

(01:20:41):
can still huddle and play fast, give them time at
the line of scrimmage and.

Speaker 4 (01:20:44):
Let's get up and play.

Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
But you can be aggressive without throwing the ball down
the field and holding it for four seconds. Yeah, because
right now, the way they're protecting you can't hold it
for four seconds.

Speaker 10 (01:20:53):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (01:20:53):
At times it looks like And I know this sounds harsh.
You know, when you go to your first fourth grade
game Pop Warner and the best players like their defensive end,
and he's playing against a bunch of kids that are undersized,
and every time he's also your quarterback on the other side.
Every time your team drops back, he beats the quarterback
to the spot. Yeah, because he's just so much physically
more gifted. At times, I feel like we're playing guys.

(01:21:15):
It's like they're walking him back in like they're like
they're they're bench pressing five hundred pounds and the other
guys one hundred and eighty five pound max. You get
my point. It's just the the domination is almah, and
they're not doing anything out of ordinary. They're just physically
whooping your ass. So if that's the case, then something's
got to change. And in the run game yet, which

(01:21:36):
requires physicality, they're moving bodies and mixings bringing his own
blocker on a regular basis.

Speaker 3 (01:21:42):
Yeah, I think with Bobby Slowick's play calling as we
look I head to the Lions, they're just gonna have
to have a great game to win.

Speaker 5 (01:21:53):
Man. That's deep.

Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Now that's some analysis. They're gonna have to have a great.

Speaker 5 (01:21:58):
Game to win.

Speaker 6 (01:21:59):
Yeah, they got it again on the same page.

Speaker 4 (01:22:02):
How many players at a time? Should they take it one?
One play at a time?

Speaker 5 (01:22:07):
Problems should do?

Speaker 6 (01:22:07):
You know a little more? They gotta want it.

Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
You gotta want it.

Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
That your mo you gotta want it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:13):
Look man, offense cells take his defense on's champions.

Speaker 5 (01:22:16):
Let me tell you how the perspective of sometimes of
when you see, you know, a perspective from us in
the media or fans.

Speaker 4 (01:22:22):
Sometimes I want you to think about this.

Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
Okay, a guy from the USC like he's on social
media on the Facebook side. There's a trojan you know
where you Yeah, he posts, he goes, I don't ever
I didn't know what he posted.

Speaker 6 (01:22:34):
Are toxic?

Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
Oh my gosh, dude, he posts it.

Speaker 5 (01:22:37):
I don't even know who the guy is, but in
that group he posts it and he says, I don't
ever want to see this from my quarterback again. They're
in the red zone, they run it, it gets stuffed
in the backfield, see shocker, right, And it was like
fourth down, so they're walking out the field or either
fourth down or two point conversion.

Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
I can't remember. Maybe it was two point conversion.

Speaker 5 (01:22:54):
But to get stuffed in the backfield and Moss, the
quarterback stairs down, looks out and dips his head and
walks off the field because he's so frustrated. It's like, man,
how can we get you know, the frustrated that we
would all do. And the guy says, I don't ever
want to see this from my quarterback again. And everybody
was like, because he doesn't care what because he walked

(01:23:17):
away the possessions. Now on the other team, he's walking
towards the sidelines and after the guy gets stuffed in
the backfield, he like walks away like, oh gosh, dang,
we got dominated again. That looked at We discussed because
none of you are playing well. And he said, I
don't want to see this. What would you expect him
to do?

Speaker 14 (01:23:34):
Jump?

Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
And do jumping?

Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
You're like, let's go, we're getting our ass kicked again. No,
And that's what I'm saying. We all have that propecial
how we're spoiled, Like what you said, just play better? Right,
I don't And how we could tell from a distance,
well that guy wasn't into it. Why because the back
got stuffed in the backfield. The guy through fifty times
the running back get stuffed in the backfield. They're five
yards deep in the backfield, and you're telling us, well,

(01:23:55):
I don't want to see this from my quarterback. I
actually want to see that from my quarterback because you
know what it showed me. He was disgusted with the
way their team was playing. He didn't point a finger
and he just walked off like, damn, I can't believe
that happened to get stuffed.

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
And so did you get perspective?

Speaker 5 (01:24:07):
And a couple of people are like and then he said,
I don't think he does because he doesn't care.

Speaker 4 (01:24:13):
Huh, because you.

Speaker 5 (01:24:14):
Can tell from your television set that the guy doesn't
care because the back gout stuffed in the back of
what did you want him to do? Start punching the
defensive lineman in the face. I mean, that's my point.
And then somebody challenged him on it, and he's like, ah,
he just needs to care more. Oh gosh, that's what
I'm talking about. Sometimes, do you guys take it? It's

(01:24:38):
not toxics, it's just plain out ignorant and stupid. There
are certain people we should never give a platform too.

Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
Apparently the Facebook group for like the Astros Facebook groups
are like, it's.

Speaker 6 (01:24:50):
Like the worst place.

Speaker 18 (01:24:51):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (01:24:51):
I don't follow that ever. Yeah, but I just see
screenshots of.

Speaker 5 (01:24:57):
Oh my gosh. You know how we say, Hey, it's cool,
we respect everybody has an opinion voice it.

Speaker 14 (01:25:02):
Some of you.

Speaker 5 (01:25:03):
Yeah, grab a muzzle and stay out of it, dude, Yeah,
stay out of it. Yeah, it's that those cross your
family at home. We're going to your mom's basement, don't
just Hey.

Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
Also, now that I think about it, Thursday, we didn't
play football time in Houston. That's another l that they've
caught because we didn't play it well.

Speaker 5 (01:25:21):
You might need to play some song from the Green
Beret or Special Forces this week. You may need that
help I'm talking about to protect the path Detroit is.
They're going to challenge you every on all sides, both
sides of the field, and every part of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
One thing that I've I've noticed is, like, I don't know,
two weeks ago, people were saying, like some of these
writers and stuff were saying, all the Lions, how long
can they keep up this Finesse? Their play calling is
so good, but it's too Finesse. I'm like, what are
you watching?

Speaker 20 (01:25:56):
Dude?

Speaker 6 (01:25:56):
They're as physical as anybody in the league.

Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
And there's another defensive and their offensive line, their offensive line.
Oh you know, I wish the Texans had eighty five
percent of what the Lions offensive line has.

Speaker 5 (01:26:10):
Finesse.

Speaker 8 (01:26:10):
What you know what?

Speaker 5 (01:26:11):
Finesse's nuts?

Speaker 4 (01:26:12):
Right about that? Exactly? Yeah, dude.

Speaker 5 (01:26:14):
They run it as physically. I mean, they run it
too well.

Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
You want Dave Montgomery for two straight series? Do you
want Jamiir Gibbs, Which one doesn't matter. They're both gonna
run it down your throat?

Speaker 5 (01:26:23):
Is it true? That the last time Jared Goff to
an incomplete pass was September twenty second.

Speaker 6 (01:26:28):
There's no way that I did.

Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
I just see that. I think that was the Saint Brown.

Speaker 6 (01:26:34):
I think that was the last time Daddy an incomplete
complete pad yet to him.

Speaker 5 (01:26:37):
Yeah, oh to say, oh, I was going to say,
because I know the ball hit the ground. The ball
hit the ground at some point. I mean, well he
was rolling in the rain. But no, finesse isn't the way. Well,
I got news for it. If if hanging forty and
fifty a week is finesse, have at it. Okay, you
go ahead and have at it many shared.

Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
Goff has a seventy five percent completion percentage this season.

Speaker 5 (01:27:04):
And they're not just checkdowns, dude, Yeah no, No.

Speaker 6 (01:27:07):
He's averaging eight point seven cards per throat.

Speaker 4 (01:27:10):
They're aggressive.

Speaker 5 (01:27:11):
Ben Johnson's if Ben Johnson's making a case, so I'm
going to show the world, I'm gonna because he could
have left last year. He wanted to see it through again.
If he's showing the world that I'm the hottest name
in football, then he's doing a hell of a job
of it. His passer rating Sean is a one fifteen
it's frightening. Well, so you and you can't fourteen tudies

(01:27:32):
four inner show it can't be finesse tuddies. And we're
halfway through the season. If you're really if you're really
finessed team, wouldn't he have twenty five of them now
going for a fifty touchdown season, fourteen of them, which
tells me they're scoring a lot of different ways, right
And I watched them regularly weekly because I'm trying to
learn something from how they're doing their business.

Speaker 19 (01:27:51):
You know who.

Speaker 5 (01:27:51):
It feels like Andy Reid when they got all their
weapons in the past with speed and physicality, that they
can do anything they want and it's work, and it
starts with the guys up front. That offensive line is
as good as we have in football period. Crazy and
you think the quarterback feels comfortable right now, deliver in
the ball a little bit, man, a little bit. They're

(01:28:12):
not questioning aggressiveness in Detroit right now. No, no, no,
they're not.

Speaker 6 (01:28:17):
They're not at all.

Speaker 3 (01:28:19):
And then also there was a narrative that the Detroit
Lions can't compete in outdoor stadiums because I believe this
is their first game outside of a.

Speaker 5 (01:28:25):
Dome well, guess what in the rain in Lambeau. In Lambeau,
in the cold, they hammered them.

Speaker 3 (01:28:30):
There was a there was a part of the game
where Aaron Andrews came to do a sideline report and
she said, oh, by the way, there's an extreme wind
warning right now, gus up to forty five miles an hour.
It was like forty five degrees and raining yesterday.

Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
They can't play outdoors or they just haven't played outdoors much.

Speaker 6 (01:28:49):
No, it was a narrative that they don't they don't
play well because they.

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
Played say it, but I can tell you this.

Speaker 5 (01:28:54):
Where's the Super Bowl this year in New Orleans? It
is in New Orleans.

Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
That is a dome.

Speaker 5 (01:28:57):
Oh yeah, they don't have to play outdoor, So don't
don't let him get there because they they may not
be fun for the opponent. Yeah, but I think yesterday
might have answered that against the team that's that rising
in the power rankings in Green Bay. Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
Yeah, Well their defense feasted on Jordan Love. He didn't
even throw a touchdown pass. Tom Ass picks six.

Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
Yeh.

Speaker 6 (01:29:16):
Can't be careless with the football, you.

Speaker 5 (01:29:18):
Know, especially at home. And that happened, I mean at
a time when the game was still I.

Speaker 6 (01:29:22):
Mean it was thirty seconds before the half.

Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
Yeah, I was driving back because they get back for
the second half. And then listened and even the Packer
announcers were like, because it was a serious but it
was a Packer broadcast game.

Speaker 8 (01:29:35):
It was.

Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
And and then guess who got the ball to open
the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
Lions, right, Yeah. Tom Brady said it at the halftime report.
He said, you can't throw a terrible interception like that.
You cannot hand the ball back to the other team,
especially right before half.

Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
Was a gift, right, gift half touchdown. And that's what
Detroit's not doing to their opponent right finish.

Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
And this is it.

Speaker 5 (01:29:54):
This is the toughest task. Hell, this may be the
toughest task they face all year long. Yeah, that's how
good Detroit is right now. Yeah, they're playing really good
football the Detroit lines.

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Let's take a full look at the NFL recap of
the Sunday action of Week nine, and then also let's
continue to talk about these Houston Texans and get your
call seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety
as we roll along right here on the Shawn Salis
Ray Show.

Speaker 1 (01:30:18):
This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (01:30:21):
And his name is sure Sean? Really, where are fine?
Sports Talk seven ninety Let's talk to Biscuit. First, Biscuit,
what's happening?

Speaker 18 (01:30:31):
Hey, topping the morning?

Speaker 10 (01:30:32):
My brothers. Hey, hey Sean, let me ask you something
Sean is uh, first.

Speaker 18 (01:30:39):
Of all, in my opinion, Sean, the thinking that the
office of line at this point is going to vastly
improve is is fool's gold. So you got to you
got to come up with ways to counteract, and you
just got to live with the fact that you know
right now your office line and what it need to be,
and you just got to live with it. So what
are the things that they can do to me that

(01:31:02):
you know, what do you think they can do to
counteract the fact that you know, the office line came
past block? Especially in long down situations. I mean, uh,
I'm not thinking. I'm thinking like shoying, like okay, Usually
you think of team's running draws.

Speaker 10 (01:31:16):
Maybe, you know, if they.

Speaker 18 (01:31:16):
Want to run up the field, okay, well let's let
them run up the field and we just come right
behind them. You know, if they want to run up
the field, let's run some traps on them or something.
Let's you know, besides rotating the pocket around. You know
that too, And I think Sez got to take some
of them on itself.

Speaker 13 (01:31:32):
That you got to get rid of.

Speaker 18 (01:31:33):
The ball man, tied ends and backs man.

Speaker 5 (01:31:35):
Let's go, let's get it to the short mat and
Bobby Slower put them in position that you can still
make huge plays doing it that way. And I'm the
draw game. You know that used to be old school
and I so where you could lead a full back
up on the mic linebacker. Now it's like the quicker
if you want to get the RPOs and if you're
inside zone outside zone. I'm big on the trap game too.
Let him come in, trap the guy and let's kick it.

(01:31:56):
And mixing is good enough to like I said, he
can bring himself as a blockers. He's such a physical guy.
And I'm with you. People always add the one thing
I can't fix during a season normally. I mean, I'm
talking about with the bodies. Now you can do it
as a play caller and quarterback and change the way
you're scheming things, but it's hard. You're exactly right to
say we're all of a sudden gonna wake up and
be more physical than pass protection. We're just going to

(01:32:18):
change our attitude ten games in. I kind of believe
at this stage we know who you are. So now
that I know what the conflict and the weakness is,
how do I combat that? Because they ain't nobody coming
to rescue them outside the building in twenty twenty four,
what they got in the building maybe an extra body
for depth they can go get at the trade headline.
It's gonna be hard to compile a superstar or two

(01:32:39):
that you're going to get to protect you. So with that,
I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
You have to as you have to.

Speaker 5 (01:32:43):
The quarterback has to be a place where you can't
find him on every snap one two. CJ's got to
understand he doesn't have the luxury of taking five and
a hitch and holding it for a twenty yard comeback.
We just don't have that luxury this year, at least now.
But maybe if you change up quick game three, step here, boom,
catching here, inside trap game, inside zone, screenplay, sprint right,
throwback to the tide, all these things that make a

(01:33:06):
defense say they're multiple, they're playing it all over Watch Detroit,
Watch Kansas City. They make you cover everything. They make
you cover everything with quite Frankly in Kansas City, less
offensive weapons, not name Mahomes and Kelsey truth. So yeah,
and Andy Reid knows. See, Andy Reid, it's not what
your strengths are. Andy Reid and Ben Johnson know what
their weaknesses are. And when you know that, we know

(01:33:28):
the strengths are going to be. It's like anything you
want to stay out of your weaknesses, it create problems.
So I'm with you.

Speaker 14 (01:33:33):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
It's incumbent upon Stroud and Slowick and Demico to say, listen,
we are going to we got really good defense. Just
don't give them short fields. Be aggressive, but smartly aggressive.
And you can be aggressive by not taking deep drops,
holding the ball and waiting for things to happen. Once
you've established the quick game and that they can't get

(01:33:54):
to the quarterback, now you can change it up and
mix long stretch play action and throw that deep backside
in cut or the comeback that Stroud's so good at throwing,
and it opens up the band. It just can't be
Nico Collins is the reason why the quarter the quarterbacks
on his ass that and you're not changing that at
least player wise for the most part in mid season.

(01:34:14):
But you're gonna have to scheme him up to help
your spot.

Speaker 8 (01:34:16):
On with that.

Speaker 18 (01:34:18):
Yeah, and last thing I would say, Sean, I think
one of the issues with Allways in line, and I
may be wrong, but when the when the guy who's
supposed to be the.

Speaker 5 (01:34:29):
Leader, I know where you're going, and you ain't wrong, brother.

Speaker 18 (01:34:33):
And he's called something to you know, there's another air
word that's thrown out there. I know some guys over there,
there's another air word that's thrown out there in his name,
and they ain't leadership when he is the leader. Man,
you you got issue, Shane. That guy got to be
a dog. And if he ain't a dog, I expect
the rest of them to be dogs, you know. So

(01:34:55):
I don't know how they can, you know, fix that
because they locked.

Speaker 14 (01:34:59):
In, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:35:00):
So, Yeah, Biscuit, With every with every team you've been on,
I mean, do you've watched growing up? Basketball? Football, Bay?
Whatever your team is, right, I know who your teams are.
But no matter where we are is it doesn't every
team on both sides of the ball. I mean you
got to have a lot of or now, like when
Georgia's winning national titles or Alabama or whoever it is,

(01:35:20):
what's the one. I mean, aside from a lot of
things in common that the teams that dominate have, but
you know one thing, and it's it's we we joke
about it. But you do have to have dogs every
and I'm talking about big, not only that bark, but
bite two. You have to have those guys stepping out
in front. Because I've been in locker rooms and if
you're passive aggressive, guess what, usually your roster ends up

(01:35:40):
being passive aggressive You're it does if your dogs are
stepping out in front and willing to fail to be
successful and accountable for it. All of a sudden, that
guy who's not a dog that he's like a He
goes from a poodle that just yaps to a Doberman
Pencer who's been trained. You get my point, and then
now it's a big dog, and then it starts to

(01:36:02):
permeate through your roster. I am a firm believer that
without talking about it, and I know in every locker
room I've ever been in, who the dogs are?

Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:36:11):
Let me give you two of them. In San Diego
and my last year in my career, to the names
Junior Sale and Rodney Harrison, ring a bell on and
on the practice field Johnny Randall in Minnesota, we're getting
the people get Joey Brown and getting fights every day.
Why because they were such dogs you and I'm talking

(01:36:32):
about big dogs that now everybody else like, damn, they're
embarrassing me on the practice field. I got to step
my damn game up and be a dog too.

Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
And then we had twenty of them. So that you're
one hundred percent correct.

Speaker 5 (01:36:43):
So I can go through micro and say, you know,
I want to know why that guy on the practice field,
if you came across the middle and were jogging and
he was a defense your offense, he was going to
hit you just to let you know that that ain't
the way we play. And a coach didn't have to
say a damn thing. So you are one hundred percent correct.
And the question is can you develop dogs or dogs
born with it? Something we need to discuss. So but

(01:37:04):
and I know this, even when you watched Indiana basketball
with Bob Knight, did they play with some dogs on
their team when they were at their best?

Speaker 18 (01:37:12):
Hey man, you're talking about keep your hand on the
swim with some picks coming.

Speaker 4 (01:37:15):
At the bingo. There you go, great point, biscuit.

Speaker 5 (01:37:18):
Appreciate the call, brother, thank you, and they got their
toughest task this week on Sunday night for the entire
world to see, at least the football world. It's Sports
Talk seven ninety. Uh, Brandon and Ray and the rest
of you callers, we got you. It takes step side
here for one second. Coming right back at Sports Talk
seven eighty more talk on how do you fix or
at least a just an offensive line that become that

(01:37:41):
has become a glaring weakness for a team that we
think has playoff in Super Bowl aspiration, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (01:37:49):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, God mancy you guys from you.

Speaker 14 (01:38:01):
I gotta I gotta got a couple by the minute
man to make them come in. But youse guys are
talking about a dog mentality. I tell my son, who's
who plays basketball this, I say, I don't care.

Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
You don't have to.

Speaker 14 (01:38:14):
Score thirty a game. You know, Draymond Green is in
the NBA, Barry Wallace is in the Hall of Fame.
Can't score a point. But they have those are dogs,
certified dogs. Every team has to have one. I'll say that.
To say this, and you say, how to fix the
Texans office a line. I want to pose this to
you guys. What about we uh put Blake Fisher in,

(01:38:36):
we try to we move Titus Howard to left guard.
We put Blake Fisher in at uh at how in
Titus Howard's position, and then we have Patterson in for
Kendrick Kendrick Green. That's one. And then my last point
is for all the fans, with the fans out there,
that's that's just automatically saying that the Lions are going

(01:38:58):
to just come out here and just curve stomp us.

Speaker 11 (01:39:01):
I would.

Speaker 14 (01:39:01):
I went to their Twitter page this morning, their fan page,
and they all are pretty nervous about this game. They
they don't have a much of a pass rush and
and this is the game that we could that we
could that we could do some things because they they've
been struggling to generate a pass rush. And you know,
if Nico comes back, man, it's it's you know, it's

(01:39:22):
pretty much all bets off. But you know, I'll hang
up and listen you guys, have a great week.

Speaker 4 (01:39:26):
And take care you too.

Speaker 5 (01:39:28):
Ray, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:39:28):
Here's what I do know.

Speaker 5 (01:39:29):
The problem is, Yeah, losing Hutchinson has become when I
say their biggest weakness is that the pressure on the
quarterbacks different for Detroit.

Speaker 4 (01:39:36):
But don't don't. I'm gonna tell you right now. Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:39:40):
They will still try to create pressure elsewhere. So I
wouldn't go in thinking, oh, because they don't rush the
passer very well without Hutchinson, that they're they're not any
good at it. We talked about when the Texans play
the Cowboys, it's a good way to get healthy, I mean,
to get well as a football team when you're playing
the Cowboys. If you're the Texans, well, if you're Detroit,

(01:40:01):
isn't this a good way to get healthy rush in
the passer? Yeah. And I don't think for one second
Detroit's going to come in here thinking this is a
curb stomp. And I wouldn't because the Texans are not
only formative, they're formidable. They're six and three, and they
are capable of having an offensive attack just like Detroit's had,
So they can score on you.

Speaker 4 (01:40:20):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:40:20):
And it's going to be a fast paced game, maybe
you need to slow it down a little bit and
change Detroit's tempo so you get a It was a
strength with Hutchinson's still trying to find their way in
Detroit's front and pressure, you get a great pressure team
against the Detroit passing game, meaning the Texans. Yet Detroit's
offensive line is really damn good, just like the Texans

(01:40:43):
pass rush and tackles for loss and their physicality on
defensive front. For the Texans, the matchup is a more
equal opponent simply because Hutchinson isn't there, so you can.
I assure you They're going to try to mix and
match and force some confusion Detroit is. But there is
no way the Lions are looking at this. If they are,
they're on crack. The Lions are looking at this disrespectful

(01:41:07):
and thinking maybe a fan base is that, oh, we're
going to curb stomp the Texans.

Speaker 4 (01:41:10):
I wouldn't think that at all.

Speaker 5 (01:41:12):
I don't even know what the early spread is, but
I can tell you this, the Texans are not only
capable of beating them at home, meaning here in their building,
but the Texans are capable of humbling that the Lions
in a hurry. I don't think the Lions are coming
in here thinking this is going to be a cakewalk.
The Texans are a good football team. The record alone
says it, but they also Detroit knows where the weakness is,
and I assure you they're going to attack it. Yeah,

(01:41:34):
I think.

Speaker 3 (01:41:36):
I'm trying to think how to put this. If you
can figure out a way in the next what six
days to adjust your game planning. From Bobby Slowick's standpoint,
you'll have a chance against the Lions. But if you
have an offensive line that's gonna do what they've been

(01:41:57):
doing over the last several games when it comes to
pass pro, you're not going to come close to being
the Lions. They are so physical on defense and they're
so gifted on offense, and Ben Johnson is unbelievable. You
cannot continue to try to just do the same thing
over and over and over again. Obviously that sounds very cliche,
but yet we've seen it. Do they can They can't
pass block to save their life.

Speaker 5 (01:42:19):
And here's what happens when you're struggling with that. What
do you think if you're playing Detroit, if you and
I are sitting in the meeting room, what's our thought
process this week?

Speaker 6 (01:42:27):
They're gonna try to run the damn football?

Speaker 5 (01:42:28):
Oh, meaning the Texans. Yeah, but if you're the Texans
overall roster and you're looking at Detroit.

Speaker 4 (01:42:34):
Are you saying, yeah, this team's not that good.

Speaker 5 (01:42:36):
Are you saying this team's good and even with our defense,
don't you expect that Detroit can score on anybody?

Speaker 10 (01:42:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
No, I don't know if it's forty, but they can score. So,
if you're an offensive football team, what is your response
to that we play conservative? Or no, you gotta let
it rip, air it out so open, you let it rip,
or you letting it rip with sound protections? Are you
letting it rip? Thinking we got to match them play
for play? You don't have to match them play for
play because quite frankly, your offense isn't as good as theirs.

Speaker 4 (01:43:02):
Hate to say it, it's just not.

Speaker 5 (01:43:03):
No, it's not. And now your running game matches theirs
because your guys are about to he runs like he's
two dudes, yeah, meaning mixing. So if you're going in,
there will be the tendency to say, match them throw
for throw. But now you want to be as efficient
as they are. But you have got to do what
you can to control this thing. It wouldn't hurt them
to have like four drives of like twelve to fifteen plays.

(01:43:26):
That'd be nice, meaning the Texans, because the truth is
right now, the best way to limit the Detroit Lions
is to keep them. I know this sounds cliche, but
keep on the sidelines. It really is the way that
they're playing. It's true. So but you can't get caught
up in the Texans aren't desperate. There's six and three
where they are a bit desperate and not even a

(01:43:47):
bit I underplay that they are desperate. On how are
we going to find a way, like you said, to
create in six days and the rest of the season
that allows us not only to get to January, but
to win in January and to start at this week
against Detroit, because it's a hell of a test and
barometer where you are overall as a team. But the
desperation isn't the football team. The desperation is the five

(01:44:08):
cats up front blocking, and the backfield, and the tight
and the and the play caller an offensive line coach.
How you're going to sow this up? And desperate teams
don't make really good decisions. But maybe in this case,
desperation is the best thing that can happen to them,
because if they wonder if their jobs are on the line,
maybe a little bit of fearal help them, not that
you tell them that, but by watching tape they got

(01:44:29):
to know this not just a job. But I hate
the Kenyan Greens hurt. But even if he was healthy,
could you run him out there next week?

Speaker 21 (01:44:38):
No?

Speaker 6 (01:44:38):
How how could you? He's been atrocious.

Speaker 5 (01:44:41):
It's not a blessing. You need him, you don't want that.
Anybody that cheered for that is sick. But the other
side of it, the other side of it is you're
at left guard. You're you're not taking a huge step back,
is my point. Yeah, yeah, do you need just depth wise,
losing him sucks. But he's got to be better when
he's healthy. And this offensive line just has to. And

(01:45:02):
they're when one's doing it, two aren't when three are
doing it. Two aren't when four are doing it. Ones
not when they run the game, when they're running the ball. Hell,
you may have to run it forty times this week.
This may be the week you do it.

Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
Yeah, honestly, seven one, three, two two five seven ninety Brandon,
Good morning.

Speaker 17 (01:45:19):
Good morning, Brian, Good morning, John.

Speaker 2 (01:45:20):

Speaker 5 (01:48:10):
I was on vacation, man, Okay? Why oh man?

Speaker 14 (01:48:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:48:21):
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
Detroit's first outdoor game this season was in week nine.

Speaker 5 (01:48:28):
If here the Texas do you leave? Do you open
the roof?

Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
Open the roof? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:48:33):
Why not?

Speaker 4 (01:48:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:48:34):
Just for the hell of it, to see if you
could test him two weeks in a row.

Speaker 4 (01:48:36):
Yeah, I feel you.

Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Monday night game tonight Tampa Bay at Kansas City. Let's
go Baker, see how how that goes up at Geehaw
Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City favored by nine damn
who Tampa Bay Bay. It's kind of disrespectful to God
wins out, Mike Evans is out. Yeah, that's tonight. Yeah,

(01:49:02):
well why would you listen? Why would you I understand
the grit and the grind. Why would you think Tampa's
going to finish any closer than that? Yeah, Mike Evans
went out last week. Chris Godwin's banged up, Bucky Irving
is questionable.

Speaker 4 (01:49:19):
Not to be confused with Michael Irvin or BUCkies.

Speaker 5 (01:49:23):
The Evans not to be confused with, or what's the
Evan Williams, Yeah, or any mic that exists? Michael Jordan few,
Michael's out there. Yeah, big mic is, there's a big mic.
Mike Evans first ballot, Hall of Famer Mike Evans.

Speaker 6 (01:49:42):
Well, as long as he comes back this year, he's
going to have another thousand yards.

Speaker 5 (01:49:46):
Love the fact that he's not a self promoter. He
just does it his performance every friggin year. But it's
crazy at home. Does Kansas City ever get national TV games?
You mean like noon games? No National TV? They've play
inter national Sunday it's Monday night or the late afternoon
on a Sunday. Yeah, no, never.

Speaker 4 (01:50:06):
I mean it's incredible.

Speaker 6 (01:50:07):
They don't ever play any noon games ever.

Speaker 5 (01:50:10):
You think they ever get catered to?

Speaker 3 (01:50:12):
Come on, man, they got the rest in their pockets.
They're gonna go. They're gonna win the night. It'll be
eight No, yep, I mean like look, look, oh wow,
hey check it out. Finally, uh this coming Saturday Sunday
they play the Broncos at noon.

Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (01:50:30):
Oh wow, wow, check that out. Dude, they got let's
see one.

Speaker 5 (01:50:34):
You have to slide one in once in a while
just to keep them honest. Yeah, well watch this team
because it's kind of defense that they're like offensively, they're
really not the same offense as they've been. Watch them
go undefeated with this with this, No, I'm not serious.
Could you imagine they all of a sudden roll through.
They're seventeen to oh and they roll through and win

(01:50:54):
what two playoff games at a super Bowl? They end
up twenty and zer and we're like, how did that happen?
M you know, it's been such a wild ass fall
football NFL in college anyway. Why not? Yeah, that's just Crown.

Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
Let's just say they're going undefeated.

Speaker 5 (01:51:10):
Yeah, well, you know, if they can't, there's no way.

Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
What's the commissioner's name in the NFL, Roder Goodell Rogers
his way, then he probably would have the Ravens or
not the Ravens of the Kansas City Chiefs going to feeded.

Speaker 5 (01:51:22):
Well, he'd probably like to have the Jets and the
Giants decent football teams.

Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
True, that would help.

Speaker 6 (01:51:27):
Yeah, so the Giants suck. Jets are Yeah, the Giants
are very good.

Speaker 5 (01:51:33):
How about the move Kwan Barkley put on yesterday, unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (01:51:39):
That all the respect we put on this, they got
magnets in the glove.

Speaker 5 (01:51:42):
I mean, you know what that thing. It's like Spider Man.
Those gloves now are So I'm not saying that those aren't.
We've seen about I've seen like eight catches in college
in the NFL the last week and a half that
have been like Odell Beckham plus. I mean every week,
I'm seeing these catches. Every frigging week, I'm seeing these catches. Hell,
we saw one with the Jets on Thursday night. We're
seeing him every every week. We're seeing one of these catches.

(01:52:05):
So much respect for that talent. Got a lot of
gifted players, and we give guys love when they hurdle
a guy facing them. This dude's back to him. He
takes a little glance, his peripheral visions off the chart,
not only to jump and try to attempt it with
his back turn to a guy heading downhill, but the
fact that he missed him, Like he's playing leap frog

(01:52:26):
with your buddies with his back turn, and he missed
it perfect I mean to a perfect ten hits the
ground running it Just what do he did with his
back turn? Why are we talking about that?

Speaker 11 (01:52:38):
Und?

Speaker 4 (01:52:39):
I mean, it's like, oh, oh, by the way, that's
not normal.

Speaker 5 (01:52:42):
He spins off of one guy, glances to him, turns
his back and jump over him backwards right and the
guy goes right undo his legs. Now we're going to
talk about Barkley's move, But how about the guy who
attempted to tackle him and didn't touch him. It's like, ye, dude,
it was a do you want to talk about? Freak show?
That's more rested than a one handed grab with a
glove that's got four pounds of stick in it. Sticky still,

(01:53:04):
you know, the the tackiness, and those are impressive, Like
that's the move of the year so far, Like I
get the spin move, but then also even to try
to jump over a guy facing being backwards, how many
and completing it and yeah, I'm talking about he broke
the high jump record. Yeah, and to attempt a most
guys would say, let me just back into him and

(01:53:26):
take the hit in the upper body. This dude said,
my periphery boom. And then the time it to perfection
where the helmet doesn't get in this taint area.

Speaker 4 (01:53:33):
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean, yeah, of course,
has there been a better move this year?

Speaker 5 (01:53:38):
No, now, not to disrespect this team, this one isn't close,
but there hasn't been a better move off the line
that DeVante had him just put on. Oh god, yeah,
grab this un money.

Speaker 4 (01:53:50):
It was like grab this helmet face. I was like,
got him.

Speaker 5 (01:53:55):
It was just that that's called this called young fella.
I've seen that in practice on the track steel where
the young fella's talking and the veteran will, like a
Chris Card will put a move on and then they'll
come back and laugh and they'll go whoa. That was
one of those, like I guarantee in the film room
the next day and then he Alan Iverson crossed him over, yeah,
and put him on the ground.

Speaker 4 (01:54:14):
So that was pretty impressive.

Speaker 5 (01:54:16):
But if there's a better move that you've seen, I'm
impressed with guys that leap over guys facing them. This
dude he hit it backwards with his complete back turn
to him and didn't get touched.

Speaker 3 (01:54:28):
No, he executed the perfection. Now you think he's been
in addition to that team, they're pretty good.

Speaker 4 (01:54:33):
Oh my gosh, man, he.

Speaker 5 (01:54:35):
Like mixing here has taken their offense when they're at
their best, to a complete another level. The difference is
that Hurts isn't as good a thrower obviously as Stroud is,
but his feet on the perimeter a little better. There
are po fanatics, right and rightfully so because they're playing
to hurt his strength. But man is Saquon Barkley added
a dimension that they needed.

Speaker 3 (01:54:54):
And you know what, with all that being said about
the Eagles, they're not even number one in their division.
I know because the Washington Commanders are playing lights out football.
They're seven and two. The Commanders are.

Speaker 4 (01:55:01):
Sure are a hell of a watch man.

Speaker 6 (01:55:03):
Yeah, have you seen what the NFC North is doing?

Speaker 5 (01:55:06):
Have I got four, I mean, got other than Chicago's thing.
But Chicago's been a two weeks ago they were in
the playoffs. Four teams in the division all playoff worthy,
I mean, and records said playoffs. Now I can tell
you this, I don't see why three aren't gonna make
it three in the NFC North, the winner of the AF,

(01:55:26):
the NFC North, the winner of the NFC West. But
the problem is two teams in the NFC East, and
then you have the NFC South. Somebody's got to win
the division, which looks like Atlanta Falcons Romesterix. So it's
going to come down to the second place team in
the East and the third place team I think in
the in the North. That's crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:55:48):
It's nuts, man.

Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
Pretty impressive, man, that's uh, that is impressive.

Speaker 3 (01:55:52):
I think that's a team that's excuse me, that's actually
been playing really good football here as of late is
the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaker 6 (01:56:00):
They've won three in a row. Also, the Arizona Cardinals
have won three in a row.

Speaker 4 (01:56:05):
Yeah, and you got the the.

Speaker 5 (01:56:06):
Lonely San Francisco forty nine Ers at five hundred four
and four. The forty nine Ers and Seahawks were supposed
to be at the top of the division, right and
then the Rams. But with the injuries, the Rams quickly
fell off to Look. Look they're at five hundred in
the hunting and do you trust Arizona continue this trend,
we'll see.

Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Yeah, let's get into the nine o'clock hour. Let's talk
some college football. Couple of upsets on Saturday. Let's look
at those. Next right here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 9 (01:56:30):
Ninety d E Houston ATDHD two Houston, and I heard
radio station.

Speaker 4 (01:56:38):
And the rocket.

Speaker 9 (01:56:40):
Is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home seeds.

Speaker 23 (01:56:47):
Hey surbris Smith right now your side one thousand dollars
on Sports Talk seven night just entered this nation wide keyword.

Speaker 1 (01:56:54):
At Sports seven ninety dot com.

Speaker 9 (01:56:57):
Credit that's credit it now at Sports seven nighty dot com.

Speaker 16 (01:57:06):
Salisbury Olby Salisbury Hoson.

Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
Sean Salisbury, the USC Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (01:57:18):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury show.

Speaker 6 (01:57:26):
Rockets take on the next tonight. Seven forty five is
the tip off.

Speaker 3 (01:57:29):
Six forty five is when the launch bat starts right
here on seven out of your home for Rockets Basketball,
Cowboys beat by the Falcons. Let's look at some college football.
A couple of upsets over the weekend. I would say
the big one Texas A and M getting upset by

(01:57:50):
South Carolina. They got they got their ass kick in
the second half. They didn't score a point.

Speaker 5 (01:57:53):
They got smoked. Remember we wore that front seven, the
aggressives and a tough place to play in Columbia. It's
hard place, man, South Carolina. The records not their team's
better than their record. Yeah, they were just better.

Speaker 3 (01:58:08):
Let's see two games losing by a couple of points each.
So they I mean they're three and three in the
SEC five and three overall, they could easily be uh
seven and one.

Speaker 5 (01:58:19):
So I'll ask you, is A and M a playoff
team they lost to as of right now? No, forget
where they stand in the RAID. And then tomorrow it's
tonight the rankings for the first time come out.

Speaker 4 (01:58:31):
Is it tonight?

Speaker 5 (01:58:31):
I think with the for the college football.

Speaker 4 (01:58:33):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 5 (01:58:35):
Yeah, Okay, they got they had their first SEC loss,
Right that's the Aggies. Are they, in your mind a
national championship threat?

Speaker 6 (01:58:47):
No quarterback issues and what I mean one.

Speaker 5 (01:58:50):
Running with the other decision making with the other who
should be a better decision maker because he's you know,
we expected more from Wigman. I guess question is where's
his confidence now? Because you're going to play the other
guy right now? I think right still, Marcel Reid, I
still think I would start him for the rest of
the year, to be honest. So with that, are they
are they the best team in the SEC? I'm gonna

(01:59:11):
tell you another thing. Even though they won and came
on Carson Beck looked, how many throw how many? How
many he's throwing eleven interceptions? I think in the fast
eleven or t last five games, he can't stop throwing interceptions.
He looked against Ian to say this, but under duress
and pressure, he's a He is a he is a
subpar player.

Speaker 4 (01:59:31):
Yeah, dude, I watched that whole game and I was
tripping over. What are you doing?

Speaker 5 (01:59:36):
Yeah? What are you doing? He looked a trophy. He
was throwing balls to places you can't You couldn't have
fit him in. It's like, why are you throwing it there?

Speaker 4 (01:59:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:59:44):
Like I said, he's a good player, and they've got
their defense is filthy. He's got to play better, man,
he has got to play better if they're going to
win a national championship. So I'm saying, here's the best
team in the SEC now. Jackson Dart over the weekend
through for five, five, twenty five or whatever six touchdowns
and probably could have thrown for seven hundred if they

(02:00:06):
had kept chucking it around the lot. You say chunk,
and I say chuck it. I'm who's the bet? Is
it Tennessee? Is it Georgia? It ain't Alabama?

Speaker 4 (02:00:17):
Is it Texas?

Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
Probably Texas? It's probably Texas or Tennessee as of right now.
If Carson Beck continues to play like he's been playing,
it's not Georgia. Texas, A and M has their own
QB issues, It's not them Tennessee's. Actually, when you look
at Tennessee's quarterback, he makes some dumb ass decisions too.

Speaker 5 (02:00:34):
Tremendous talent, but but two inconsistent right needs almost it
almost feels like he's another year away from a national
title type team.

Speaker 3 (02:00:41):
Honestly, probably right now after what we just said, is
probably Texas and LSU, And.

Speaker 5 (02:00:48):
Yet LSU had to buy this week and last week got.

Speaker 6 (02:00:51):
Beat got beat by Texas, A and M.

Speaker 5 (02:00:52):
Right by a team he just got beat by South
Carolina My point with this is you can name three
or four teams that you say that's the best team
in the SEC right now. How Hey, even though they struggled,
don't you put Ole Miss's offense up against anybody? Yeah,
they're pretty damn good too, which is the way I
like it. So who is going to then you say, Okay,

(02:01:15):
who's got the best quarterbacks? Well?

Speaker 4 (02:01:17):
Ole Miss.

Speaker 5 (02:01:18):
Beck at times, yours at times, Nico at times from Tennessee.
Meyer as tough as any of them, but he had
a second half that you're like, what happened to you
last weekend?

Speaker 14 (02:01:32):
Right?

Speaker 8 (02:01:33):
So?

Speaker 5 (02:01:34):
And Milroe's good, but Alabama's up and down. I don't
trust them. It's a it's a trip, isn't it. Yeah,
we've seen Missouri start off well and good and getting
their ass kicked a couple different times. It is we're
aheaded Who's the best team in America not named Oregon? Indiana?

Speaker 4 (02:01:51):
I think so better than Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
I think Ohio State's right up there. But the way
that the indian is playing football and I and again
their schedule more respect.

Speaker 5 (02:02:01):
They need some respect.

Speaker 6 (02:02:02):
They're they're they're nine and oh six and oh and
big ten.

Speaker 5 (02:02:05):
You would have had Penn State in it, but Penn
State's they Ohio State's defense came to play. Yeh, Will
Howard didn't get recruit he didn't play his best game,
matter of fact, through a pick six right up, but
then grinded his way through it. So my point is
there's a lot of helen. You'll the front seven in
South Carolina where they at home can beat anybody. Who's

(02:02:25):
the best team in America not named Oregon? I think
is the second one. No, I think it's organ and
then everybody else might be that's gonna make their quarterback
that's gonna make this playoff the way that it is
and awesome. And you thought that you weren't going to
get any bitching from because we have twelve teams. Oh,

(02:02:46):
you have no idea, dude, I can't wait the fifteenth.
The fifteenth team is gonna say what the hell?

Speaker 11 (02:02:51):
What?

Speaker 1 (02:02:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:02:51):
Oh, it's coming.

Speaker 5 (02:02:52):
Oh, I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (02:02:53):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (02:02:54):
I think it's tonight, starts tonight. When people are like, well,
how are they ahead of us? I could tell you
some t that aren't going to be in it. We
know who they are. And then I'm wondering where they
putting Army. Were they putting Boise State and the way
that state?

Speaker 11 (02:03:11):
I know?

Speaker 5 (02:03:12):
So my point is they got beat over the weekend.
My point is were you putting where you putting them?

Speaker 4 (02:03:17):
After? Oh, they look like they were on the right.

Speaker 5 (02:03:20):
Look at BYU the number and they are playing great
football twelve and I think they were off this weekend too,
that they were I b yu in your top seven
or eight, right, it got to be right. They have
to be the half Army won with the backup quarterback
this week and they're they're they're starting quarterback. Hell, you
could mention him for the Heisman the way he's played.

(02:03:42):
I know he's not gonna win it, but you get
my point. So it's going to be kind of cool,
I know. And you think about if a team like
Army gets in. Let's just use them as an example.
Think about and you don't have a long time to
prepare and you don't see the offense, the offense like that. Yes,
that's what the great equalizer is with those guys. They're undersize.

(02:04:03):
So you say, okay, how do we do it? We
make them have to defend the whole like laterally, the
whole field and when your quarterback in the option game
is a great decision maker.

Speaker 4 (02:04:11):
You know what ends up happening.

Speaker 5 (02:04:12):
He said, we got to stop stop the option, and
then you get those three or four plays a game
where they run play action.

Speaker 4 (02:04:16):
And hit a guy running right down the middle. It's
just it. It's actually created a lot of fun.

Speaker 10 (02:04:22):
Man.

Speaker 3 (02:04:22):
Oh another team that we're not mentioning, Miami. Oh, Well,
to me, they're probably you know what, they're probably the
number two team in the nation, the second best.

Speaker 5 (02:04:31):
And their core and he played he started off slow, dude,
his second half, they came out friggin smoking in this game.

Speaker 6 (02:04:41):
Drop the ball?

Speaker 5 (02:04:42):
Man, what a what a.

Speaker 4 (02:04:48):
A bummer for them?

Speaker 5 (02:04:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:04:50):
Yeah, you know what, man, like, what what are you
going to do with a team like Army? Also, you
know who's creeping up and look at it, Look at
what SMU is doing. They're number thirteen in the nation
right now, they're five in acc play eight and one overall.

Speaker 4 (02:05:04):
They who they beat Pitt? Yeah yeah, Pitt was undefeated. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:05:07):
So I'm telling you and and and their coach has
been up. Many have mentioned him for coach of the Year.
Uh nor doozy. Yeah, So what about Rhet Lashley? The
way he's got SMU playing. Yeah, No, I mean it's
we're in for one hell of a run. There's gonna
be somebody gets left out. It's gonna be bummed out.

Speaker 4 (02:05:25):
That's that.

Speaker 5 (02:05:25):
And it's gonna be and you know what it's gonna be,
and maybe a non power for team as well. It's
I can't wait to see how this thing shapes up.
I really can't.

Speaker 3 (02:05:35):
Let's see when do though. Yeah, actually, man, tomorrow is
a big day. We get our first look at the
new twelve team playoff rankings tomorrow at tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (02:05:47):
Okay, so it's on it's on, uh, but it's on
uh election day. Yeah, okay for some NFL tonight.

Speaker 23 (02:05:54):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (02:05:54):
You got tomorrow, you got the NFL trade deadline, yep,
You've got the election ye. And you've also got the
first look at the new new twelve team playoff rankings
tomorrow evening.

Speaker 4 (02:06:03):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (02:06:05):
Makes for a hell of a Tuesday, doesn't it. Man, Sure,
there's gonna be. Here's what I do though. There's gonna
be happy people think about it. Trade the headline. There's
gonna be happy people and miserable people because somebody didn't
do enough the playoff. There's gonna be happy people, miserable
people because somebody's gonna think they belong in the top
twelve and don't and aren't. And it's gonna be happy

(02:06:25):
and miserable people who voted for their guy or girl
and or man or woman. Should I say guy or girl?
It seems like they're too young, like fifteen years old,
a man or woman and the one you didn't vote
or the one you voted for. If it doesn't win,
you're gonna be unhappy. And if you won, you're gonna celebrate. Yeah,
if you're candidate one. So we're gonna have three different
types of categories.

Speaker 4 (02:06:46):
They are gonna be really happy people.

Speaker 5 (02:06:48):
There's gonna be some miserable people in teams and individuals
all the way across. There's gonna be some why didn't
we make a trade? And it's all happening on Tuesday?
And you know what, I'm here for every friggin part
of it. Meeta, wait, can't wait? Seven seven ninety is
the number to join.

Speaker 3 (02:07:04):
We'll get back out to the phone lines and continue
to talk about college football. Who is leading the way

Speaker 5 (02:08:45):
He's the yseternal judge who sits on high Here's the
final say on all disputes.

Speaker 1 (02:08:51):
Back to the Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (02:08:56):
We're talking about college football. Talk to Anthony, Anthony, what's happening?

Speaker 8 (02:09:00):
Hey, guys, Hey, I wanted to give y'all my team
that I think is getting slept on. And then I
have a question for y'all. But I don't think Indiana's
getting enough respect or attention. I tweeted Sean this this
weekend while they were playing. Uh. I mean, they're an
undefeated ACC team and they can score some points and

(02:09:21):
play some defense. I think that tomorrow when those playoff
ranking rankings come out, If there are anything lower than five,
that's disrespectful. But I didn't want to ask. I know
y'all briefly touched on it, but I was watching Nico
ye Ia Maliava play this weekend. I know he does
make some mental mistakes. He's a freshman, but I think

(02:09:43):
if you know, if somebody has to go to Rocky
Top and play a playoff game, that that that team
is going to be a problem. And I I just
wanted to know what y'all thought of him.

Speaker 5 (02:09:50):
I think he makes some good throws, enormously talented, and
the Big ten Indiana Hoosiers are definitely he's talking about
Indiana cut out a little bit.

Speaker 4 (02:10:00):
Is that he talking about respect?

Speaker 5 (02:10:02):
Yeah, And he did tweet me over the week and
I think Indiana and they're so well coached, things are
a change in there. You're not just a hoops program
and they're proving it. They're hell to pay for anybody,
and their quarterbacks. A really good decision maker got him
back after being out.

Speaker 4 (02:10:16):
So there's one.

Speaker 5 (02:10:18):
And Nico is a big time skill set and that's
a hard place to play, you know who. Hypel reminds
me of on aggressiveness and playing fast. Is he's to
me like, got some Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions
in his pocket because he wants to play fast and
if he's got forty five, he wants to score fifty two.
And that's a problem for them. If Nico's playing well,

(02:10:40):
that team at home in Knoxville, that's a hard place
to go in and visit. Kid's gonna be a hell
of a player. He already is talented. He's just got
to be wiser with some of his decisions. But there's
nothing he can't do. Star, Yeah, Star. Got some breaking

(02:11:00):
news coming out of the NFL.

Speaker 3 (02:11:02):
Adam Schefter senior NFL insider reporting the New Orleans Saints
have fired their head coach Dennis Allen. With New Orleans
firing Dennis Allen, questions remain about what the Saints are
gonna do before the four pm Eastern trade deadline, which
is tomorrow. The team hold a two and seven record.
Pro Bowl cornerback Marshawn Lattimore is already drawing interest from

(02:11:23):
other teams, So the Saints fire Dennis Allen fire. He
was with them for two plus seasons. They went eighteen
and twenty five under Dennis Allen. They started two to
zero this season, scored forty plus points in both games,
but they have lost seven straight.

Speaker 5 (02:11:40):
That team is they got some good players. They may
be tearing it down and they may be a team
you go raid during this next two days, today and tomorrow.
I'll be honest, Dennis Allen has been a really good
defensive coach in this league.

Speaker 4 (02:11:56):
Yeah, but as a head coach with the Raiders and
the Saints, he's just a guy.

Speaker 5 (02:12:00):
And I hate saying that because it's a hard business,
but some guys are just built to be a coordinator
or a position coach instead of a head coach. I
going on in Louisiana every single week last year. I said,
I'll be shocked if he's the head coach. And I
kept the offseason offseason, offseason, and he.

Speaker 4 (02:12:18):
Kept his gig. There's a lot of loyalty there.

Speaker 5 (02:12:20):
Mickey Loomis gets a ton of loyalty from the you know,
the from the ownership group. And Mickey Loomis gave Dennis
ound a lot of leeway they have to make a change,
or had to make a change once he got through this.
I figure halfway through the sea and everybody thought oh
my gosh too. And oh the Saints are real. The
Saints aren't very good, No, they're not. They're not very

(02:12:42):
talented and highly overrated. After they beat Carolina and then
who they beat the second was at the couch, not
Dallas who they beat in their second game. They smoked
Carolina in their opener and then they hung forty on
somebody else. That was a little shocking when they won
the two and then again lost seventh straight.

Speaker 4 (02:12:57):
This this was inevitable.

Speaker 3 (02:12:59):
They beat the Panthers forty seven to ten to open
the season and they beat the brakes off the Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (02:13:03):
For ye well as now that we look back at it,
both fools gold. Neither neither Carolina blows even though they
won yesterday, not very good. And we know the Dallas
Cowboys are just they're just an average team at best. Yeah,
So that that, and it's shown the last seven games
they're just they're been in they've been in some games,
but a non factor. And this was going to happen.

(02:13:24):
It was inevitable. Next hire will be important obviously for them.
And the question is are you going to the college
ranks to find an offensive guru? But you know who's
going to get.

Speaker 6 (02:13:34):
The first call more than likely Bill Belichick.

Speaker 4 (02:13:37):
No, probably Ben Johnson. Oh yeah, but.

Speaker 5 (02:13:41):
If you're smart and you're the Benson family and you're
Mickey Loomis, Yeah, you might want to just check in
with Belichick's agent and to see if he if New
Orleans interests him. Just a hunch, Just a hunch, because
you know what, it's always intriguing to hire a coordinator,
an offensive or defensive coordinator, but it's still risk guy
who's not been a head coach. There's nothing risky other

(02:14:03):
than Belichick. You're you're probably gonna have a little bit
less fun.

Speaker 4 (02:14:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:14:07):
Maybe Bill, because he's been on TV seeing it from
a different perspective, comes back and coaches, and maybe he's
a little bit like Tom Coughlin, you know, came back
in a little bit, a little bit more latitude.

Speaker 4 (02:14:19):
But can he coach that way?

Speaker 5 (02:14:21):
I don't know. Just like what if Saban came back
in the heat of this NIO, could he the next
ten years get to three national titles? I don't know,
But I'm always inquiring about the best in the business.
You can tell me no, that's fine, but I at
least got to ask. I think for me, if I'm
huge higher for the Saints. I would probably.

Speaker 3 (02:14:39):
I would probably acquire about Ben Johnson first, and the
truth is, and then I would go to Bill Belichick.

Speaker 6 (02:14:45):
But I'm definitely calling for Bill Belichick.

Speaker 5 (02:14:46):
And Rattler's probably not your franchise go at least right now.
You don't think so. As a rookie, car makes a
lot of money. But is he Car's not taking you
to a super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (02:14:54):
No, he's just not.

Speaker 5 (02:14:55):
He's a good player, but he's like a lot of
those guys in the middle, right, good player, petitor, but
you're not getting to a super Bowl as the starter
and him being the guy. Now, the question is, is
there a guy in this draft that you like enough
to make him your pick in the first round? Is

(02:15:16):
there right today? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (02:15:19):
No?

Speaker 5 (02:15:20):
No, the guy in Colorado is a two way player.
He's half bad. I don't right now. To me, there's
not a quarterback worthy of the first pick of this draft.

Speaker 6 (02:15:29):
I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (02:15:30):
Man, the very first first round, yes, yeah, first first pick, No,
I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (02:15:36):
So you're gonna have to look elsewhere.

Speaker 5 (02:15:37):
But the Saints, now they're not going to pick first
because I'm somebody else is gonna have a worst record.
I think with the two wins, they're in the hunt.
So the question is where do you go with this
and who they hires the interim. It's not Clint Kubiak.
They didn't put him in there already, did they?

Speaker 6 (02:15:51):
I would, I would. Adam Sheffer didn't a report.

Speaker 3 (02:15:53):
Okay, I have not seen it, but yeah, when you
look at some of the worst teams in football right now,
the New England Patriots at two and seven, the Browns
at two and seven, Jaguars at two and seven, Raiders
at two and seven, Giants at two and seven, the
Saints at two and seven. So there's, yeah, there's gonna
be a couple vying vying. Also the Carolina Panthers vying

(02:16:14):
for that worst spot in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (02:16:16):
And think about this when you need a lot of
those teams, the Giants I think are probably gonna be
in the in the mix for a quarterback. When you
are one of those teams that's looking for it, who
you going with? Is there a surefire? I mean, yours
has got game right, Beck's got game, inconsistent game and
Quinn same way. But they can rip it now and

(02:16:38):
then you look at you know, I don't think, first
of all, the kid at Organ is not he's he's
not the first pick of the draft. Matter of fact,
he's not even a first round pick. But he a
guy you keep, you know, maybe not as gifted with
arm strength, but as a winner and competitive. Then you
start to look at other places. Garrett Nussmeyer, Cam Wored's
name will be uh me, no doubt. Well, yeah, five

(02:17:00):
or six years now. I think he's gonna six year,
isn't he? And then you've got nuss Meyer who's tough,
and New Orleans being right there where lsu is. Maybe
you try to snatch him if you're the Saints, but
there's the Giants. A lot of those teams are the Raiders.
Do you think they're secure quarterback? Uh or Aidan O'Connell.
So are they going to be looking for somebody at
a year when you were with you were hoping for

(02:17:20):
last year's class. This year, you know what I'm saying.
And some of the better quarterbacks might be guys that
aren't draft eligible. Interest is going to be an interesting
offseason too. But the Saints had to.

Speaker 4 (02:17:31):
Make a decision.

Speaker 3 (02:17:32):
Yeah, Saints, so we're going to have a head coaching
vacancy and I know the Dallas Cowboys will too, There's
no way.

Speaker 5 (02:17:37):
Mike McCarthy servives, well, the Giants probably will, and there'll
be a few others. The question is are you going
to continue to stick with Todd Bowles and Tampa? They
played decent football?

Speaker 10 (02:17:46):
Is he?

Speaker 4 (02:17:47):
Is he gonna stick with him?

Speaker 20 (02:17:48):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (02:17:49):
Is it time for them to make a change. Although
they've done some good things, their defense has been a
little off this year. So there we're not done with that.

Speaker 4 (02:17:56):
Questions.

Speaker 5 (02:17:57):
Will Antonio Pierce survive Raiders? Well, I mean we can
go up and down the list of man Will Day's.
I think the NFC North is their Their coaches are
not changing. If they all of a sudden fold up
and go home and have a crappy playoff, Philadelphia Eagles
will be looking.

Speaker 4 (02:18:13):
For a new two. I guarantee it.

Speaker 6 (02:18:15):
I wouldn't be surprised. To Nick Sierrian it was on
the hot seat.

Speaker 5 (02:18:17):
Well, well, he's gonna be on it because it's Philly period.
But if they don't go deep into the playoffs and
have a chance to get back Super Bowl, they're gonna
they're gonna their head's gonna explode.

Speaker 3 (02:18:26):
Yeah, you know another one also, how long. How much
longer does Sean McVeigh have. I know he's young, how
much longer does he have? In well, Los Angeles? See,
mcvay's got the trump card of all. Just go be
a broadcaster for fifteen million.

Speaker 5 (02:18:36):
True, he's been, I mean, honestly, yeah, but he's what
he's I don't even think he's hit forty thirty eight.
There you go, and with the way there, he's got
the hall passive players injured. Yeah, and the fact that
they're now playing well, I I don't unless Sean wants
to go and broadcast right now, or he wants to
go coach USC's team. Anyway, I don't think that that's

(02:18:58):
I don't think that he's in danger right now. And
Shanahan's not either. Yeah, we got to talk about your
USC Trojans. Man, Well, there's not much to talk about.
To talk about it, just say, well, go ahead, you
have and dude, you know me, that team still can't
defend and they can't close it out. And Lincoln Riley
is a hell of an offensive coordinator? Yeah, yeah he is?

Speaker 4 (02:19:16):
Is he hell of an offensive coordinator?

Speaker 5 (02:19:18):
Not sure?

Speaker 6 (02:19:19):
Man, There you go, let's talk about Sean's USC Trojans.

Speaker 5 (02:19:21):
Next, there's a lot of place they're going to charge
you a lot more money to do your thing when
it comes to curt of pro sertopro dot com, cert
of Propainters, certopro dot com for your free estimate and
all the safety protocols you need. Each and every cut
of Pro business is individually owned and operated, which gives
you that boutique feel that you would want when people

(02:19:41):
knowing who you are, what your tastes are, help you
pick out the paint colors if you want to change indoor, outdoor, interior, exterior,
business or home. It's expensive to own a home in
a business, isn't it, So why wouldn't you protect it
with the quality painting of cert of Pro Painters. It's
expensive and so you want it done right, and they
do right. And I was a customer first, which makes

(02:20:02):
me proud to be part of a great team that
came into my home, did three or four rooms, did
some exterior stuff for me, and I'm like, now that's
the way it's supposed to be done. You di I wires.
I love you. But even if they can go one
better and free up your time to do something else,
why wouldn't you it's sort of pro painters, sort of
with the Sea surtopro dot com for your free estimate,
official painting partner of the Houston Astros. There is no

(02:20:24):
better sort of pro painters that's painting happy. But the
Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Rockets take on the next tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:20:34):
Seven forty five is the tip off six forty five
launch pad right here on seven on your home four
Rockets Basketball.

Speaker 5 (02:20:41):
Believe what God is wing on? Win Sha, I let
into the Bregman thing. I can't believe that God has
done my blessing for Bregmant.

Speaker 6 (02:20:49):
He's golden. There you go, he's golden. To get paid today.

Speaker 11 (02:20:54):
Dog.

Speaker 6 (02:20:54):
Let's talk to Mike. Mike, appreciate you, Holden, good morning, Yes, sir, it's.

Speaker 7 (02:21:03):
For most two segments ago. What the hell about free agency?
That's going to impact more athletes? To be anything else?
To board?

Speaker 14 (02:21:14):
Say that?

Speaker 5 (02:21:15):
Say that again?

Speaker 7 (02:21:18):
Pre agency in baseball?

Speaker 5 (02:21:19):
What about it?

Speaker 7 (02:21:22):
What's going to impact?

Speaker 2 (02:21:23):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (02:21:23):
Told athletes board Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (02:21:28):
Oh you're talking about you're talking about adding free agency
to that list? Yes, yeah, no, you're over there.

Speaker 9 (02:21:35):
You go.

Speaker 4 (02:21:35):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (02:21:36):
That's what it starts, right, it's opening a free agency.
So that means we got four categories opening a free agency,
we got trade deadline football, we got the first UH
poll for where the top twelve are in college football,
and we got that other thing that's an election. Yeah,
it's a pretty busy tuesday. Man, You ain't lying. That's
a good point.

Speaker 7 (02:21:56):
Absolute Okay, thank.

Speaker 5 (02:21:58):
You, appreciate you, buddy, Thank you, Mike. And it's true.
And the guys that are, I mean, we already know
that Sodo's tests and free agency. He is till Rekman's
test and free agency. There's gonna be some bodies out
there you can go get. And how about Garrett Imagine this?

Speaker 6 (02:22:16):
Are you about to talk about Garrett Cole? Yeah, okay,
imagine this.

Speaker 5 (02:22:19):
You got one hundred and forty four million, You have
three years left on your deal, one hundred and forty
four million still to come, and you can say, nah,
I'm an opt out because they get Why do I
tell you I hate opt outs? If you're paying somebody
that much money, do they deserve an opt out in
the middle of it. That's why I was adamantly against
Carlos kray. Well after one year, give me an opt out?
Why so you can pad your numbers do it and

(02:22:41):
then go use us as a stepping stone to go
somewhere else to bigger money. No, no, no, no, I'm
telling you right now, Brian, I'll say it as loud
as possible once. So do we getting an opt out?
If he's coming to me, he does not get I'm
paying you six hundred million your opt outs right on
these nuts. Okay, you're staying here till it's all gone.
That's not happening. So you asked for it. I'm telling

(02:23:01):
your agent right off the bat, Alex bregmant anybody else
the word that, the two words opt out, I'm assuming
it's I don't even know if it's a hyphen. I
don't think so opt out don't even don't even bring
that up because you are not.

Speaker 4 (02:23:15):
I don't care.

Speaker 5 (02:23:15):
If you ask for eight million dollars a year instead
of twenty eight, you ain't getting an opt out.

Speaker 4 (02:23:19):
Nope.

Speaker 5 (02:23:20):
Okay. Secondly, can you imagine having one hundred and forty
four million on a contract and being able.

Speaker 4 (02:23:25):
To say I'm opting out?

Speaker 1 (02:23:27):
Crazy?

Speaker 5 (02:23:28):
What's gonna happen is they're gonna add thirty six million
dollars to the contract and he's gonna end up making
a buck what was what's that buck eighty some buck
eighty two or whatever, buck eighty four, whatever it is,
and with no intentionally als he has to do is say,
opt they gave him that, and it's costing them thirty
six extra million dollars.

Speaker 6 (02:23:46):
Whoever negotiated that, Scott boris good for you?

Speaker 5 (02:23:49):
Man? The answer is no, dude. The money we're paying
you is enough for you to say, I'm staying here
no matter what I don't And again do they have
a world series to show for it? That answer is no.
As good as he is, the answers still know. Since
two thousand and nine been to one, the answers still know.

(02:24:10):
And you know what opt outs? You ain't get one.
I'm just telling you and team and player empowerment's fine,
agent empowerment. You're not getting an opt out. I'll pay
you more money before I'll give you an opt out
to use me as your bridge to another team that's
going to pay you more.

Speaker 4 (02:24:27):
Not happening.

Speaker 5 (02:24:29):
Not happening because to my knowledge, as good as they are,
so doo yep, Garrett Cole both gonna get paid huge money,
adding thirty six to one and about five hundred and
fifty million to the other. Guess what, I know that
they don't have his Yankees a ring, then go.

Speaker 4 (02:24:50):
I can listen.

Speaker 5 (02:24:52):
I can finish in second place. Yep, without giving you
an opt out. Ain't now I'm a player. I'm asking
for it. Hell yeah, I'm asking for But isn't it
almost aren't you telling them I'm not really fully all
in with you guys. I want the opt out in
case I really want to leave and you guys aren't
doing the right thing, so I can leave. Aren't you
winning all the way around? But if I offered soda,

(02:25:13):
I'm just using to get five hundred and fifty million,
Why would I even give him an opt out?

Speaker 4 (02:25:18):
You don't give him.

Speaker 5 (02:25:19):
If there's an option, let me have the option, right
tour emotion. If we're halfway in it, you're you're playing,
you're hitting two twenty, and we're three years into a deal,
maybe I, on my end now probably not going to
get it because the money still it's going to be
fully guaranteed. So the point is is it? When I
say opt out, we're a decision, a team decision. The
opt out for the player basically says, if you don't

(02:25:39):
like us anymore, you can leave, or you can the
opt out. Oh, you're going to add seventy million dollars
to one more year of an extension.

Speaker 4 (02:25:47):
And who wouldn't opt out of a contract?

Speaker 1 (02:25:50):
Who would?

Speaker 5 (02:25:50):
Because you're guaranteed to get the money anyway. And if
you opt out of it, you get an extra thirty
six mil. For Garrett Cole because who's not going to
pay him as a right handed nine hour ninety nine
I'm on our thrower the potential alone, and Asa Young
says got to pay him. So Yankees don't want to
lose that. He's their best picture, right. So with that
in mind, when Soto, he's gonna five hundred million, is
gonna be a pay cut if you pay him that,

(02:26:12):
he's gonna get somewhere in that range, I am assuming.
And if the Yankees want to keep him, they're they're
gonna have to probably step up even more than that.
So in that right field fence is sure enticing show
the porch for me, man, I'm just telling you, Brian,
I am. And when people say, well, then you're gonna
miss out on good players, and okay, and guess what
the Yankees get to take with him more than the
Astros do this year one extra series of paychecks. Yeah,

(02:26:36):
or two extra two extra series of paid Okay, and
that's great. You don't get a ring. So I can
finish in second place without giving you anybody an opt out.
I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (02:26:47):
I'm just not doing there.

Speaker 5 (02:26:48):
We all have our hard and steadfast rules that we
would live by if we were a GM.

Speaker 4 (02:26:52):
That's one for me.

Speaker 3 (02:26:53):
Yeah, if I if I'm not mistaken, I want to
say Blake Snell opted out too of his contract.

Speaker 6 (02:26:57):
Of course he did because he had to opt out
after year one.

Speaker 4 (02:27:00):
Yeah, he did.

Speaker 3 (02:27:00):
He opted out of his contract. He had an opt
out after year one, year two, in year three, so
he opted out. Let me ask him year how stupid
is that? Wh Why aren't you agree?

Speaker 4 (02:27:10):
You know what opt outs are to me?

Speaker 5 (02:27:12):
You're just renting the player, and in order to keep him,
you got to dig deeper into your wallet again, but
you'd dug deep into the wallet if you feel like
you're getting a bargain with the guy, then I can
at least listen. I got a bargain with you. Okay,
you're not. You're giving me a hometown discount. Maybe I'll
give you an opt out after four years of a
five year deal. But I assure as hell am not
I pay you five hundred million or Garrett Cole, you

(02:27:34):
got one hundred and forty four left. Why would I
give you the opt out to run on us and
go get paid for somebody else?

Speaker 3 (02:27:38):
And it's all I mean, why if you're like, if
you're a team and you're about to sign like a
thirty year old, Let's just take Bregman. Let's take Bregman.
He's what thirty, about to be thirty one or about
to be thirty. He's thirty, we'll say thirty. You sign
him in a five year deal, you get him, and
with the opt out after year four, you get the
next four years of him. And then usually when players

(02:28:00):
get to thirty five what happens father time. Well, I'm
okay then, because now him to go get one more
two year deal, make the most money, and then retire.
If he's playing great at thirty four, he opts out,
you're gladly happy enough to pay that if you're gonna
do it, which I'm adamantly if you're gonna player that that,
we feel like, okay, he wants to stay here, but

(02:28:20):
not one year in right, not two years in not
three smell three straight years in so basically you're just
renting him every year.

Speaker 5 (02:28:28):
Yeah, and he wins at every at every stop. That's
not called betting on yourself. That's called covering your ass.
If you're not doing well, you're still gonna go get paid.
I've never understood it and I never will. If you
pay opt outs, you deserve all The Yankees deserve everything
they get with it. Yeah, I agree, I would.

Speaker 4 (02:28:44):
I think they suck and I'm.

Speaker 5 (02:28:45):
All four crane not doing and I wouldn't give Bregman
one either, especially in year one, two or three. You
want a five year deal for that twenty eight million
by year four maybe the last year, because if you're
not playing well, I'd love to opt out. If that's
the case with any player, I'm not doing it as
all of them ask no way.

Speaker 6 (02:29:02):
Final segment on a Monday edition Next four Suck seven eighty.

Speaker 9 (02:29:07):
Let the celebration start wars Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:29:15):
John, thanks for holding good morning.

Speaker 1 (02:29:17):
Dang Sean and Brian.

Speaker 10 (02:29:18):
Listen.

Speaker 11 (02:29:19):
Man, you know what, Man, I was very upset like
all of us, especially when the Texans lost to the Chest.
But you know, after I gave you some balls, and
I put things in the perspective. This is this rookie
coaching staff, this is the second season, This is uh
CJ strive second season. You know, you're not this is
still a developing team. You're not going to any super

(02:29:42):
Bowl your second year. That just does not happen. Not
with all, not with a rookie coaching staff and and
pretty much a rookie quarterback. You're still gonna have some
problems here and there that you have to you know,
get rid of players or coaches and stuff like that.
You have to build this thing. So we need to
be a little bit more patient.

Speaker 8 (02:30:01):
Now.

Speaker 11 (02:30:01):
Detroit is my favorite, my best, my second favorite team.
I believe they'd with k C if they'd have gotten
that super Bowl last year, and I think they're gonna
do it this year. So but look how long it
took the coach over there to get over there and
and and get the cart read. I think they won
what three four games their first season with that coach.
I mean every team, you know, got to do some

(02:30:22):
bill and got you know, in places and stuff like that.
So people I fell into the hype about, oh they
super Bowl ready this year, but maybe they're not, And
if they not, that's okay because last year that same
rookie coaching staff and rookie quarterback won ten games I think,
and won a playoff game. Man, that is really really good.
So let's just let them work on this offensive line

(02:30:45):
team and stuff like that, and you know, and that's
how it is in football. We just got to be
a little more patient. Y'all have a good one, okay, hey.

Speaker 5 (02:30:52):
John John gray point. If you go back to Dan Campbell,
you remember when they got Jared Golf. He came out
at one point and said, Golf has to play better.
That first year. I believe it was when he got
him and he was on a hot seat because they
were struggling up and down, struggling. They stuck with him,
the fan that the ownership group stuck with him, and

(02:31:14):
they've turned it around ever since. Wise move, because he's
obviously can be coach of the year. Yeah, he's he's
been fantastic. A guy you'd like to play for.

Speaker 6 (02:31:25):
Hey, real quick, before we get out of here.

Speaker 3 (02:31:27):
The Houston Astros have just announced their twenty twenty four
Silver Slugger Award finalists. Jose Al Tuvas Silver Slugger Award
finals for second base, Jordon Alvarez for d h Yiner
Diz for catcher, and Alex Bregman for third base.

Speaker 16 (02:31:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:31:42):
Do you know who I think has the best chance
to win it?

Speaker 1 (02:31:45):
Ye?

Speaker 5 (02:31:45):
Jordan no Yiner.

Speaker 4 (02:31:49):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (02:31:49):
Or is it another braggy bomb clean swepe on the
awards this off season?

Speaker 5 (02:31:53):
Blooming Nice Dias had a hell of a Silver Slugger
Award Oval album? Does does do any of them win it?

Speaker 3 (02:32:05):
Give me two seconds, I just had the full list.
I think Al has got a good chance. He's going
against Colt Keith, Marcus Simeon and Labor Torres. Brent Rooker
had a hell of a season for the Oakland Athletics.
That will be between him and your Don Bregman, Rafael
Devers and Jose Ramirez. He's not gonna win that. Jose

(02:32:25):
run and then uh Yers competing against Shaye Langleers from Oakland,
Salvador Perez and Cal Rawley.

Speaker 5 (02:32:33):
That'll be competitive.

Speaker 6 (02:32:34):
That'll be competitive for sure. I think Al wins one.

Speaker 4 (02:32:37):
Maybe the catcher that's not gonna Happeny're.

Speaker 3 (02:32:40):
Probably gonna give the Silver Slucker to Brent Rooker. He
had a really good season for the Athletics, and then
Jose Ramire should win the Silver Sluck Award. He had
such an underrated as offensive regular season.

Speaker 4 (02:32:51):
So there you go. We're gonna do it again. Tomorrow
is a huge day.

Speaker 3 (02:32:56):
He got a big day tomorrow, boys, we got a
big day. You got And if trade deadline three o'clock
central free agency opening up in Major League Baseball, You've
got the very first college football playoff twelve team poll
tomorrow evening. And then oh, by the way, it's election
twenty twenty four Kamala Harris by.

Speaker 5 (02:33:14):
The way, Yeah, and uh well, guess what, make no mistake.
There's nothing better than twelve teams in the poll.

Speaker 4 (02:33:26):
I'd be it serious. Why are you looking at me
like that?

Speaker 5 (02:33:28):
You are not being I am be it serious. Normally
we like our top six. Uh huh.

Speaker 4 (02:33:32):
Now we got, you know, twelve teams in the poll.

Speaker 8 (02:33:34):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (02:33:35):
Do you are they given top fifteen or just twelve twelve?
You know how normally it was the top four? Then
I got six, so I get six five? Then to
out right for first four? Him if they're doing that, yeah,
twelve people in the poll. It's nothing better beats four?

Speaker 4 (02:33:52):
Serious? Yeah, I know, beats four.

Speaker 5 (02:33:53):
Yeah, more than Marrier around the pole, you know, by
the way. Presidential like, yeah, there is a presidential election
that's happening that is too. Have a good one, big,
big day tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (02:34:01):
