Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eight oh seven thirteen ten Wiba Madison in the morning
and asked the experts, there's what I was looking for.
The heat is on, Oh, the heat maybe off. Either way,
it's been a little bit warm. We're checking in this
morning with our good friend Andrew Larson. Of course, Andrew
comes to us from Larsen Home Services. The website Larsenhomeservices

(00:21):
dot com. That's l A R. S O N Home
Services dot com. They're twelve number six, so eight five
three five forty three forty three. That's five three five
forty three forty three. And Andrew as weird as as weather.
Maybe there are some benefits to these slightly warmer temperatures.
How you doing, And let's talk about some of the

(00:42):
benefits to this time of year with the with the
warmer temperatures.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Just like took me back to like, I don't know,
nineteen eighty nine, with like a spiked hair and a
bullet and girls wearing lots of hair spray spiking bangs.
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, I remember, though, those are good times, fond memories
of those days.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Tight roll the dancing type look you know, yes, yes,
good stuff, good stuff. Yeah. So this morning, there's a
lot of warmer temperatures. It feels it feels wonderful. It's
so odd. Last week was like imminent death and now
it's like, wait, what in the world is going on?

(01:21):
But what I want to talk about specifically was roof
restore and it's something that we promote a lot. It
is different than a roof repair. A roof repair is,
in my mind, is just a quick fix. It's you know,
I got a leaky pipe boot, let's just replace that
pipe boot. When we know that when your roof was done,
all of those pipe boots and all of those flashings
were done at the same time, So it's time to

(01:43):
restore and take a look at everything so we can
get many more years out of a roof. So this
weekend we received six calls for our rapid response team.
And if people not first time listening or have heard before,
but we have a rapid response team and if you
have a leak, we typically not all ours. This is

(02:06):
something we're still building out, but we've been pretty good
at it. A leak in your roof, we have usually
have team members that are ready to go. They can
get over there and make a temporary, temporary fix. Until
we can get an estimator over there to do a
true inspection and come up with a more permanent fix.

(02:26):
So this weekend we had five or six calls for
rapid response and a few more for leaks, which is
odd because well, there's no snow on anyone's roof, and
I'm pretty sure it didn't rain. So what's going on. Well,
we have a leak in our roof, We've got a
spot on our ceiling. You know where I'm going. But

(02:49):
with all of those cold temperatures, nobody was going outside.
Everybody was staying inside. Furnaces were running a lot more
than they typically would. I don't care. You know what
type of insulation you have. Obviously, if you've got an
ultimate addic solution from us your furnace, you're gonna lose
less heat because there's just no better way to do it.

(03:10):
But no matter what, your furnace is running more, you're
staying inside. You're probably doing more cooking inside. I mean,
who even wants to go to eat when it's that cold.
You don't want to leave the house. It's like it's
house to car, car to work, work, the car, car
to house. Well I got that right on the first try,
but more cooking, more heating. So what are we doing.

(03:30):
We're putting more moisture into the attic, and there's really
drastic dew point temperature differences in the attic. So you've
got warm moist air from the inside of the house
getting up into that attic and it's freezing, freezing, freezing cold.
That water is going to condense. It's gonna, first of all,
it's gonna freeze on the undersiding over your decking if

(03:51):
we don't even if we have adequate ventilation. Honestly, when
it's that cold and you've got that much of that
much of a temperature change, it doesn't really matter. Ventilation
is extremely important, but it's really what's more important in
those instances is air ceiling. So one of our reps
went out to a home and they were certain they

(04:12):
had a roof leak, and we knew it wasn't a
roof leak because there's no there's no moisture coming from
the sky, right, and so we just put put a
video out on social media, and so I believe it's
on our Facebook account and all that stuff. But he
took a video and it was legitimately snowing in the

(04:34):
snowstorm in there. The moisture from the inside of the
house was condensing and freezing so rapidly, and air was
moving up from the ventilation so quickly because it was
blowing that it was like a snow globe in their attic.
It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen.
And obviously it had nothing to do with nothing to

(04:58):
do with their roof whatsoever. It was one hundred percent
the lack of air ceiling, because that ventilation was actually
making it more snow globe. Bish. If we should say
it's that's I don't even know if that's a word shown,
but people can picture it is right, Yes, yes, it
stuff white snow moving all over the place. And then
that white snow is then falling down onto the insulation

(05:19):
and there's every bit of insult every insulation. Our insulation
all addicts has dips and valleys like it's never perfect.
And then it sits in a low area and it
sits there, and now it's closer to to our condition space,
which is going to be warmer because we don't have
any air ceiling, that warm air is moving up through
there even easier. Now it's fine, and it's happening over

(05:41):
and over and over and over and over, and then
you look up one day and you go, oh, no,
we have a roof leak, when we really don't. All
we have is improper or lack of air ceiling. And
I say improper because even if we have air ceiling,
if it's not done correctly, can actually make the problem
worse because now we have all of the warm air,

(06:04):
warm moist air going through one small area instead of
being spread across the entire attic. So we do get
legitimate calls for roof restores now more in our northern
territory because we just we just haven't had any snow here,
or we haven't really had any rain, so we really
know that it's not a roof leak. So while it's

(06:26):
fun to get, I shouldn't say it's fun. It is
fun to be able to go to somebody's house when
they think they have one problem and then tell them
what it really is. Because there's a lot of contractors
out there, roofing contractors especially, that don't understand how a
home works, how it's heated, how it's cooled, how we
lose energy gain energy. They don't understand that, so they

(06:47):
wouldn't know where to look, and they would automatically look
for a leak above where they see a spot in
the ceilings, and now we're going to end up paying
for something that doesn't fix anything.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
It's pretty dramatic as well, and I hope folks get
a chance of not following Larsen Home Services on Facebook
and social media. Make sure you do that and definitely
head on over to their social media sites today because
the video is quite dramatic. It literally looks like like
you'd see in the Arctic with these with these trusses,
and there's almost like stalag types or slagmites, I forget
what those are, of frozen snow and kind of a

(07:21):
snow globe effect coming down from the and this is
somebody's attic, and Andrew, if folks are experiencing this stuff,
and obviously we want to call right away. Maybe folks
have questions as well, could this happen to me? What
is going on with my roof? One of the great
things about calling Larsen Home Services is your guys will
actually take the time to look at what's going on

(07:42):
and see exactly if there are any problems in somebody's
attic space. Or on their roof.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, and that's exactly what we're here for. So if
anybody's wondering what is my installation like, especially if your
home is more than twenty years old, if you haven't
had insulation work or home performance work ever done, the
chances of your attic being air sealed are very, very
very slim. It's a lot more common now. A lot

(08:10):
of builders have become more in tune to you know,
energy star ratings, using better windows, better insulation, actually air
ceiling everything. It's it's become it's become very common because
we now understand just how important it is. We understand
that insulation in most most most cases is actually more
important than than the than the insulation. So we know

(08:34):
that the insulation is really, really, really important in the
summer because our attic gets to be one hundred and
twenty hundred and thirty hundred and forty degrees and our
ceiling turns into a radiant heater and heats the rest
of our house. And we know in the winter we
want to stop that warm air from rising, and the
best way to do that as air ceiling. So, if
your home is more than twenty years old and you

(08:55):
don't know it's probably a good idea to get it
checked out. And you know, our our estimators can show
you where you're losing the heat, how you're losing the heat.
They come in with tools to show you exactly what's happening,
and then they show you exactly how to fix it
and make your home more comfortable. Where we make our
home warmer and the warmer in the winter, cooler in
the summer, and you know, just an awesome side effect

(09:18):
of that is we save energy.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
One of the nice things too, is is because they
do such a great job of doing that, doing that inspection,
there's no pressures. You'll see as a homeowner, you'll see
exactly what's going on and then you can make that
decision about what's right for your home. And that's a
great thing about working with Larsen Home Services. They don't
need to apply pressure why because they give you the
facts and you as a homeowner, you got any questions,

(09:40):
they're their answer for you and you get to make
that determination. All I got to do this morning is
pick up phone, gimme call six oh eight five three
five forty three forty three. That's five three five four
three four three for Larsen Home Services the website Larsenhome
Services dot com. That's l A R s o N
Home Services dot com. Don't forget to check them out
and Facebook and social media. Check out that video too.

(10:02):
It is very, very dramatic. Andrew did a great job
describing it, but it's one of those things too you
really want to see in person. Make sure you follow
lur snome Services on social media. Andrew, it's always great
talking with you. Enjoy this beautiful day and I know
your guys are probably loving this weather for sure. So
you guys have a good one and we'll do it
all again in seven days, all right, See you next week.
