Eight forty five thirteen ten WIBA and your twenty seven
storm track forecast from meteorologist Emma hippis Ma says, partly
sunny today, a few showers possible.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Late high of fifty two.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Tonight mostly cloud a few showers, low thirty four, Currently
forty with clear sky, lie sunshine Here at thirteen ten
Wi b A joining us this Halloween morning, WKOW Channel
twenty seven Sports director Carl Winter.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Carl, how are you doing this week? Doing great? How
are you sewing? Happy Halloween? Ambo?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
It's a good day for it on a Friday. You
got a big plans for tonight, A lot of high
school football, of course, yes, man, Yeah, I'll be dressed
up as as a sports for a high school football.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, let's talk. Let's actually start off talking about that
couple of things. Obviously, we are in full swing for
the football tournament. You are telling me during the telling
me during the break, and I know you guys are
promoting this. You guys will be when we get down
to the Camp Randall games. You guys are going to
be there and being going to be live from Camp
Randall for those big the championships games this year.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
We will and not only will they be streamed, they'll
be on the big channel on wkow's Dot one channel,
So for folks that don't know, the kids will get
to be on ABC. So we're excited that hopefully some
of our local teams here make it all the way
to Camp Randle and get to be on TV throughout
the state.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
How are the local teams, I'm i live in Edgerton
call it home. Not a good outcome last week for
the Crimson Tide. What about some of the other teams locally,
how are they doing? Oh, we've got plenty still rolling.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
So you know, from the big schools wanta Key, Monona
Grove are continuing to win. Edgewood has had a great season.
They're continuing to win as well. Manhorror Barnevelp's always good.
But even the smaller schools Belleville want shout out to them.
They got a huge upset win last week and are
continuing to play their way up in the North Woods
in Crandon today. So lots of schools still playing, and

(01:52):
we're excited for Level two tonight and hoping that many
will move on to Level three next week.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
That should be exciting. So in your obviously been in sport.
How long have you been doing television sports?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Now?

Speaker 2 (02:02):
This is this is only year three.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Really really I did a few and up in Green Bay,
so I'm most familiar with those schools of Fox Valley
schools all.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
The way down here to Madison. But yeah, it's it's
been a quick run.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Did they did for when you were in the Green
Bay market? You guys come down and cover cover it
the same or it was a little bit different.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
How does that? How did that work? It depended on
the station.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
But we try to get down here for Camp Randle
every year, obviously depending on which schools came down here.
So last year Bayport was the Division I Section champions
or the state champions and Brightstown made a run a
few years ago, so it really depended on who came down.
But always enjoy I turned to Madison for a state
championship this year.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
You got it made. You can just drive up the
road and thinks much.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Easier to be ten minutes from the state from the
stadium than it is to be two and a half
hours or so.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
And speaking of local connections, you've got coming up on
the tenth Monday night football and you've still got connections
up in Green Bay. You're going to be going to
be up there a couple of weeks on the tenth
four for the Big Packer, Big Packer Monday Night game,
aren't you.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I am.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I'm excited to get up to Lambeau and that should
be a great one.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I mean to think about that.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Eagles Packers Monday Night Football. It's starting to get a
real chill in the air. We'll see if we get
any snowflakes, but man, I think that the fan bases
of both teams are gonna really get up for that one.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
We're excited to have it on our station. It'll be great.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, you can tune in of course, WKW twenty seven
with Monday Night Football. Of course, if you are out
in the bound you've always got the radio at your
side as well. And speaking of as we look ahead
to a couple of weeks from now, we can't overlook
and I hope the Packers aren't overlooking this week as well.
Packers Panthers of course can hear the game right here
in thirteen to ten WIBA, the term trap game does

(03:41):
come into play.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
We already.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I think a lot of us would feel as though
if there's going to be one a season.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
We've got our one out of the way. But you
don't want to overlook the Panthers, do you?

Speaker 3 (03:50):
You do not, And I think the Packers, like you said,
have hopefully gotten that out of their system with the
Browns game and even the Cowboys game. I mean, it
was difficult for the defense. They seem to have settled in.
But if we remember, this Panthers team gave him a
run for their money last year.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
It was a thirty three to thirty game.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
I think in Carolina and Bryce Young carved up the
Packer defense a little bit, so they're.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Aware of what he can do. And we'll be.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Trying to prevent that because that that thirty three to
thirty win last season almost felt.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Like a loss. Yeah it didn't. It's going to be.
It's again.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
It's it's something as we're obviously very excited for the
big Monday night game, but you definitely don't want to
overlook that. Are you Are you surprised by the Packers
this season or kind of meeting expectations or what's kind
of your take as somebody that watches this stuff and
follows the stuff.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Day in and day out.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
They're meeting my expectations. I think that they were surprisingly
great in those first two wars. The talk was out,
you know, through the roof, and then they were brought
back to earth against the Browns and Cowboys. But I
mean things happened in the NFL. Like every week there's
a shocking result. So now I think they're back to
the team we thought they could be. But of course,
it you know, it depends on how the defense continues

(04:57):
to gel and how Jordan Love continues to play. So
I think we the best of the Packers in that
second half against Pittsburgh, and we'll see if the sky's
the limit for the team.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It's going to be an exciting few weeks, of course
with the Packers. And of course we can hear all
the games here and Monday night games over on WKW
channel twenty seven. And Carl and I was going to
ask you too. As we're as we're talking a little
bit about about football, the Badger football team has their
second bye week, which also is a surprising things going
on in college football these days. I think for a

(05:28):
lot of folks, and I don't know, I'm not smart
enough to analyze this stuff. Clearly this season, in the
past few seasons have been frustrating for fans. I'm not
the type of guy to have any idea as to
what the solution is or more importantly, I think for
a lot of us identify fully or understand what the
problems may be. The nice thing is and I think

(05:50):
sometimes what we forget is Madison is a heck of
a town. Camp Randall is a premier, world class stadium.
UW is a phenomenal school and got great facilities with
all of that, and I think sometimes we forget that
there's hope that, whether it's Fickle or somebody else in
the future, that this team can can just simply buy

(06:11):
the fact of what they have. You can bring in
some really good talent and put together a competitive team,
can't you.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
You can.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I think it's a great place to recruit, and they
lean on that and not just the history of the program,
but what student athletes can get here in Madison. But
I mean, if you look at what Indiana has done
in a very quick turn around here with a new coach.
I'm not saying that a coach can overhaul the program,
but with the right investment, anybody can be successful in

(06:41):
college football right now. So I think that although you
know in some senses, the rich get richer in this
nil era. There are also some other schools, like in
Indiana or a Texas Tech that if you just invest,
if Indiana and Texas Tech can be successful in Loving
Texas and Blimington, Indiana, you'd think that we be able
to do the same here in Madison.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Talking this morning with WKW Channel twenty seven, sports director
Carl Winters, kind of getting a snapshot of things going
on in sports, we mentioned some of the unusual stuff.
Kind of strange, at least for me to have a
couple of bye weeks with the Badger football team also
kind of strange. I don't know if you want to
call it a by night or what with the with hockey,
it threw me. Badger men's hockey, they do not play tonight.

(07:23):
They played tomorrow. They played last night. The team so
far looks pretty pretty good this season.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
What a start, right They started number twenty in the
country and that may have been optimistic, and now they're
up to number fourteen.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Seven games, no losses.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
They have two ties technically, but they won those in
exhibition shootouts.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Even so, an incredible start.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
And the last night's went over Minnesota was their first
in more than two calendar years.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
So they knock off the.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Gophers and are you know, looking to really establish an
identity and I think they've done that so far. So
we'll just we'll see if the blue line play and
the goalkeeping can you continue to be as good as
it's been.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It's funny when we're talking hockey and undefeated and our
lead story is the guy side, because the.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Reality is and it's weird.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
What's funny to me is our expectation is the women's
team is of course they're going to be undefeated at
this point in the season. What a phenomenal program Mark
Johnson has put together with Badger women's hockey.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
It's an absolute machine. And they'll have a test tonight
as well. They've got the Gophers this weekend as well,
so another rivalry there. It's number one versus number three.
But man, the women that they've had a couple of
their best players out with the Indiennes season, christ And
Simms has been out and Leila Edwards has been out
and they don't miss a beat. I mean, it's a
next woman up mentality there and they look just as
good as previous seasons should be.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
It should be an exciting, of course, exciting weekend of hockey.
We've got the women playing tonight over on ten seventy
the game. Also men tomorrow night on thirteen ten WIBA
and women tomorrow afternoon on ten seven the game as well.
Speaking of things coming up, obviously high school football, big
stuff on the on the TV tonight, and anything else
you've got you've got cooking Carl for sports coverage.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Well, Badger volleyball plays Nebraska tonight. That's the number one
team in the country coming to town, so it should be.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
It should be a tall task here on Halloween.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
But yeah, plenty going on, even on a weekend where
the football team does not play. You know, it's another
great weekend in sports.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
An exciting weekend in sports, of course, Carl and everyone
at WKOW Channel twenty seven they will have you covered,
of course, to all all that stuff online WKOW dot com. Carl,
thank you so much for joining us this morning. You
have an absolutely fantastic day.

Speaker 2 (09:30):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
