Speaker 1 (00:08):
The lt at Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk NASCAR with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one, four, four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the Fastest Hour and Radio Todd Bailing.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Hey, welcome to the program. It's August already. Where the
hell is the summer going? Anyway, We're off to Iowa.
It does not mean idiots out wandering around, that's just
a rumor. Hello, there, Todd Bailing in beautiful Greendale, Wisconsin.
(00:56):
My three partners are spread out just a little bit.
For most of all, Brian and Dan are in the
same place at the same time, and that is Road America.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Welcome boys.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Hello, We are in the track side studio right outside
the pit lane here getting ready for the Motols Sports
Car Grand Prix for IMSA, probably the biggest motorsports event
in the state of Wisconsin. This one and IndyCar kind
of rival each other, and it sounds like this one
here might even be a little bit bigger today. So
two hour and forty minute race this year. Next year
this turns into a six hour endurance race, one of
(01:29):
the five endurance races they have every year. So everybody's
even excited about next year. We haven't even raced this
year yet.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
Yeah, I think there's a lot of excitement going on
for this year because of next year's a big event
and the big announcements that way. Yeah, it's a little
different than being in a car at a casino parking
lot where actually had a racetrack again this time and
watching some sports cars.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yes, Trump Alowe, Wisconsin's own PJ. Neudleman joining US high
Peg Hi there.
Speaker 7 (01:53):
I did not have on my Bengo card early fall
temperatures for Iowa. Usually it's a scorcher this time of year,
so they're going to be enjoying the weather today at
that track.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah. Well, this is the first time in my life
I've ever heard the term corn sweat, of course, seriously,
in all honesty, I'm not a farmer. I've never been
a farmer. I'm a city guy. I never heard of
it before, and it turns out it's a real thing.
So I wonder just how much of a factor the
(02:24):
corn is going to be at today's three hundred and
fifty lapper on a seven eighth mile oval track designed
by Rusty Wallace. I had really forgotten about it. I'm thinking, Wow,
what was the Rusty factor? Did you guys see he actually, yeah,
he did own this thing at one time, didn't he.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Yeah, he was one of the partners in the original
building of this track, and I think it was like
the early two thousands they built it somewhere around there.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
Yeah, he's one of the designers and everything else at
a big plan and getting in there because I think
he thought we need to get a race here in
the Midwest, because in the dust is such a of
conglomerate race fans, and that they were really reaching at
the time, and it took a while to actually get
a race here. Look how long it took before they
finally got one here. People came out last year for it.
Looks like this year too. They call it a sell up,
but now there's only thirty five thousand seats, but that
(03:13):
makes it a tough ticket.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Rustill built the track.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
It opened in two thousand and six, and then NASCAR
purchased it from him in twenty thirteen.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Okay, and they've had major league sporting events there before
with the Indy Cars. This is this the place where
the Indy cars were going so fast that drivers were
passing out.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
No, that was Texas.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Indy Car was just here what a couple of weeks ago,
and they had kind of a subpar crowd there. So
a lot of talk at any car unfortunately, may not
be back at that track next year.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
I think the Schamie will run him both without any problems.
But NASCAR owns the track, so take that for what
it's worth.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
NASCAR owns the track and then what did they do
lease it to Indy Car. I suppose there's a story
there too, which we'll hit on before much longer. The
race itself today gets underway at two thirty this afternoon.
That's when the green flag is supposed to fall. It's
(04:14):
on USA good Weather forecast out there's seventies with a
five percent chance of rain, and stages will be at
lap seventy and two ten. It's a three hundred and
fifty lapper. Brisco My god, Chase Briscoe is the guy
who likes to qualify. Huh. Another poll for Briscoe one
(04:36):
hundred and thirty six point nine three three miles an
hour on less than a mile track. It's pretty impressive.
Couldn't get quite get under twenty three seconds of twenty
three four And I'm looking down the list of cars.
There's some guys up front that you that you don't
see all that often. Let's although you know, now that
(04:58):
you think about it, Wholesavar is starting to show up
more and more.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
But how long will it be?
Speaker 3 (05:05):
One of us one of these weeks is gonna have
to pick Carson Hoholsovar to win his first race. None
of us wants to, but all of a sudden he's
gonna win out of nowhere. Almondinger has been qualifying really
good to wholest of Ar qualified seventh.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
I think of whatever.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
Week that Rich Pickles and Costa Rica.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Hey.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
By the way, speaking of which, Wholesavar and Eric Jones
after this race today will be heading to Kakana. Uh
they're racing Tuesday night. So that's uh uh, you know
it's always nice to have Cup stars show up and
uh and race and those two will be Is Bickle
racing this one. I don't think he is. He wasn't
(05:50):
on the entry list for Tuesdays race. Now, okay, all right,
well we got to see him race last week at Slinger,
but I guess he's saving himself for this one, so uh,
interesting stuff. If you'd like to call the program at
any time during this show, I'll only give you this
number in the beginning, but most of you know the
number by heart by now after some forty one years.
(06:11):
It's four to one four four two one seventy nine
oh one. And we'd love to hear from you on
anything having to do with the world of racing, specifically NASCAR.
But you know, we talk about lots lots of interesting
things on this program. Iowa, this is a pretty cool
thing for the state of Iowa. You know, you would think, wow,
(06:32):
what actually, what kind of racing do they actually do
in Iowa. Let me tell you something. Iowa is like
the good old days of Wisconsin. There's so many dirt
tracks and there are so many IMCA cars in Iowa
that pretty much if you want to race every night
of the week, you almost could do that. That's how
many events are going on, tracks are going on. They
(06:55):
all have decent car counts. It's it's amazing how they
do that. And you know, dirt obviously a little different
than putting on a race and on pavement, but Iowa
is definitely a hot bit. I'm not sure if it's
more than Pennsylvania. I know that's the same kind of story.
In Pennsylvania they have a lot of tracks and they
(07:16):
race a lot. But Iowa, I'm telling you, it's amazing
how many tracks and races that they put on, and
racers every division you can imagine in IMCA cars they
chase around the state. What do you people do for
a living that you can do? Many people move there.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
You know, remember Ricky Thornton junior Todd, you knew him
in Arizona. He moved to Iowa to advance his career.
Taylor Cool, friend of ours, moved to Iowa to.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Advance her career.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Right now, there's a chas Baca that used to race
in Arizona all times owner she moved to Iowa to
race more.
Speaker 8 (07:49):
So.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Yeah, a lot of perspective, especially on the dirt side.
They go there and try to advance their career because
you can get so much racing in.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
And they kind of all go back to Arizona for
the winter, which again leads to my question, what do
you people do for a living? You got to win
and leave money to race. It seems like an expensive
hobby to me, you.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Have to win a lot, and that's what those guys
usually do well.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
It's interesting, though, isn't it. Imagine chasing the weather to
race full time. I hope you make it enough to
make this all worthwhile. It's race day and we're pretty
excited about it. There are only three races left of
the regular season after today, and last week we got
(08:32):
ourselves a new winner, the first black driver to ever
win an event at Indianapolis. Bubba did it last week
and did a great job. Actually had a hold off
who is considered the best driver alive, Kyle Larson on
multiple restarts at the end of the race. The same
can be said for Michael Jordan the first. I think
(08:53):
he's the first black owner, if not the primary owner.
You know, there may have been some minority owners in
the past with INDYE cars. I'm not positive about that.
But it's kind of a big deal. And what really
makes it a big deal is it sticks right in
NASCAR's you know, ear because it was an unchartered car
(09:14):
and they get all kinds of attention and h lawsuits
and lawyers. You know, I just think this world doesn't
have enough lawyers and let's just encourage them to get
involved in NASCAR, which reminds me there's been more court
goings on that Dan's gonna bring us back with when
(09:34):
we come back. We're glad you're listening. The boys are
at road America. The rest of us are close by
our microphones in our hometowns, and we'll be right back.

This is the Herb. Wow wow wow wow wow with
Colin cowher.
Speaker 13 (11:56):
He now is eligible for three hundred and eighty million
dollars with the new CBA, and I would have no
problem writing that.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Chet.
Speaker 13 (12:04):
Unlike Luca, I don't question his fitness. I like Donovan Mitchell,
I don't think he elevates teammates quite as much as
SGA does.
Speaker 12 (12:13):
This is the Herd, The Herd with Colin Cowber, weekdays
at eleven on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Well restraining orders, That's that's what we like to talk
about around here. Apparently a judge in North Carolina went
along with Jimmy Johnson's Legacy group.
Speaker 14 (12:37):
Dan.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
It's only for ten days. I'm not sure exactly what
that's going to prove or do.
Speaker 14 (12:43):
Well.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
It's a temper Gillen.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
We'll have like a preliminary injunction probably forthcoming after that
one will be a little more permanent. I'm guessing it's
gonna be until their other law students is completed. I
remember that there's suposably had an agreement to get one
of Rick Whare's charters for next year. Then Rick Whaire
Racing said that, no, we didn't make that agreement. That
didn't happen. We're going to keep that charter. So they
suit them and then the night in the meantime, Rick
(13:06):
where said, Okay, I'm gonna sell my team to TJ
A Pewtoker and UH for one hundred and fifty million dollars.
Then you know I'll not getting charters. He's gonna get
all three of them. Now that's what made Legacy water
Club upsets. They filed for this re studing verses, you
can't be selling your whole organization and those charters while
this loss it's still going on, and the judge kind
of agree with them. So that's kind of where that is.
(13:27):
It's it's another messy deal, just like the other one. Yeah,
it seems like lawsuits are the name of the game
so far in this partter system.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Rick Ware is telling people that it's a one hundred
and fifty million dollars deal. How many how many charters
does he have to or three is two one hundred
and fifty million, while of course there's probably property involved
and you know all of that and and equipment and
(13:55):
about one hundred and fifty does that is it me?
Or does that seem really high?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
It seems high? But I don't know, you know, I
guess I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
I don't have a team. I don't run a team.
I don't know what was into it. I just sit
and watch. All right, Well that aside, and you know,
last week we talked about the other losses going on
and how that was all gonna go. We always kind
of forgot that we you know, if they got to
the point where it looked like NASCAR was going to lose,
we kind of forgot that. On a table there is
(14:25):
to just get rid of the charter system all together.
And then I kind of forgot about that last week.
And I probably would have brought that up because you
look at that deal. You know, if if if they're
not going to open the books before it's open the books,
they may just say charters are done completely and we're
not gonna do this at all. Now that'll make a
bigger miss mass forum for the other teams. And every
other teams will say, hey, wait a minute.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
We signed your agreement. Why are you doing that to us?
Why are you making all this money we spent workless
all of a sudden. Yeah, Well, we need to remember
that NASCAR is such that they do not, as we
mentioned last week, do not want to open their books
and show what they're making and where the money's going
(15:08):
and who's getting what. And if you didn't believe that,
you might think of it this way. NASCAR was a
public company for a short time. It was listed on
the Stock Exchange. It is not anymore. They've gone private.
They will not open their books. I'll tell you right now.
They can't. They won't. They will do they will settle,
(15:29):
they'll do away with the charters, they'll do anything. But
they won't open their books. It's just an impossibility. They
can't do that. I just don't know how. You know,
if they are the they own the sandbox, how are
they being forced to do all these things? I'm not
sure how that all works.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
But if they are and say the charters go way, well,
what's a win?
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I still don't know what a win is.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
What, Okay, say NASCAR loses and NASCAR wins obviously the
win and they keep things right, are going say they lose?
How is that a win for everybody else? When it's
all gone to somebody else come in and pick it
all up. I don't think you can do that overnight.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Yeah, be careful what you wish for. In other words,
they may pull their pants down, but exactly what do
you hope to gain by the whole thing? Charters are
in the balance, and I'm sure that the other team
owners are aware of it and are getting kind of
nervous the closer they get to these court dates. So
(16:31):
I don't know, it doesn't sound like a good idea.
Now I want to say a few words about Stuart Friesen.
You talk about a week. He did really good last
week at I RP and I don't even know where
he finished PJ. Do you know.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
He was third?
Speaker 7 (16:50):
Yeah, he finished third, and then found out that the
front end was too low so they got the cued
and then he.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Basically yes, the penalty was upheld this week too, and
so you know, thanks for your third place, but you
know you're losing everything. Then he goes out to race
his modified that's a kind of a different kind of
a modified isn't it, Brian.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
It's the East Coast model, the big black Modified's the
ones you see on the East Coast. You see him
down to Belusha for speed weeks, and then obviously he
was up in Canada with it.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
And it was a kind of a triple whammy. First
of all, he got the right sides over the top
of the berm and the thing flipped over violently, hit
the walets in the air. What's that, Brian?
Speaker 4 (17:30):
He hit the end of the wall.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
The track had like a the wall going into turn
number three. There's kind of like a blunt end of
it with like maybe a tire there, and he hit
that and it kind of cannapulted him up into the air.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Great idea good place to put a tire while he's
in the air. The thing burst into flames. I'm thinking, oh,
that's really ugly. And that wasn't even the bad part
once he landed. He got hit so hard. He has
multiple pelvic fractures and compound leg fractures. He is done
(18:04):
racing for an indefinite period of time. The question would
be what are they going to do with his ride?
I mean, there's somebody they're in the playoffs, correct, yeah. Yeah,
that truck has a win. He won at Michigan, and
I thought Christopher Bell was gonna drive it the next
month after this week is Watkins glints he's gonna drive
(18:25):
it at the road course. But I don't think they
have a driver like named for the rest of the
season that I have not seen yet.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
I don't want to act like I but I mean,
his wife put out the latest press release which said
that he's going to be starting to get right back
into physical therapy. This is a guy motivated to get
back behind the wheel. I could see him getting back
into the truck before the end of the season.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Ooh, I don't know, I could Oh my god, yeah,
I don't know. Maybe maybe by speed weeks. Nick, how
long was Kyle Busch out in fifteen?
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Yeah, that was a leg. That was half the season, right, Yeah,
so that was six months. This is your leg and
your pelvic you know.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
I can't imagine.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
I mean, when I saw it, I wasn't watching it
at the time, but another friend of mine called me
and says, oh my god, you gotta watch this. I mean,
he's like, I think we just saw him die and
he didn't show it and didn't show it and didn't
show it. And finally there's somebody that you know, put
it online and you could see it and it just
it took your breath away when you saw it. Yeah,
the guy, I've never seen a wreck that bad and dirt.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
And here's what you guys remember about this racing deal.
It's still dangerous, you know. I think about Friday, we
walked down Pitt Road, I think Pitt xt to Tie
was still at freezing.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
He was there.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
We talked to him, Brin's, hey, you're going up to Canada.
They talked at about run up there, and then three
days later that happened.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
It was yeah, I mean this this last what month
here has been we haven't seen this kind of Thank
god nobody's died. I mean that's the best part. But
I mean at Alda or in the King's Royal, how
many sprint car guys got hurt?
Speaker 4 (19:52):
What do you attribute this to?
Speaker 5 (19:54):
I don't know, It's just it's just one of those deals.
It's I mean last week's Sunday night, justin Grant, one
of the you said stars Brocus foot in a wild flip.
You know, we had we had the wreck before the
King's Royal at Sharon Speedway where that guy was flighted
out of there. I mean, it's just it's kind of
on a roll here, and I think it's just, you know,
everybody's reminding everybody. Hey, this is like Dan said, this
is still very dangerous and when you get complacent, you know,
(20:16):
things happen. This might just be the big reminder that hey,
we can't be complacent. We always got to look for
more safety standards. We gotta look for better ways of
have an these tracks safe.
Speaker 6 (20:24):
I think it's even for when you're on the race
truck everybody else racing with each other, you got to
somethow use your head. Yeah, don't don't try to make
any crank crazy. None of this recks really well because
of that. But you know I see that out there
sometimes guys making wild movement. It's like, boy, that's video
game type stuff because you don't get hurt.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Video We'll be back after these kids night is back

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Well, Brian Schmid had it pretty much figured out. There's
nothing set in stone yet, but all the big name
reporters are saying that Joliet is going to be back
on the schedule next year. We already knew that they
weren't going to raise the sho Chicago road course. When
did they announce that Mexico City lost their date?
Speaker 4 (24:06):
Well?
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Did that come out as part of the San Diego deal?
Speaker 4 (24:10):
I can't remember. This week they talked about that they're
now right. I don't know if they ever officially did it.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
I think it was everybody kind of talked about it,
and then Jordan Bianki kind of put that thing out
there that said he kind of a little more official, like,
I think this is what's going to happen. Everybody's kind
of whispering about it the last couple of weeks, but
I think that was he was the first one to
actually say this is what I hear, and I think
this is.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
All it's going to go down.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
The dates, I suppose are what we have to think
about now. If San Diego is going to be Father's
Day weekend, perhaps Joliette will keep the Chicago fourth of
July date, Brian, I mean.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
But it's sounding like right now, yeah, which you know,
I don't know. To me, it's a little concerning that
you're going to go back there on the fourth of
July because that's where you were before and you didn't
get a real big crowd. You know, if it was
me and this was my idea, because you know that
the road courses get the big camping and the big
family type atmosphere. If you don't want to come here
at Road America where we are now, then why wouldn't
(25:03):
you go to Watkins Glenn with him on the fourth
of July Because that's a big camping Watkins Glen. Road
America is very similar when it comes to how the
setup goes for people and campers and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
So why they don't do that, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
But I mean, Chicago may get a good crowd, but
if they don't, I wouldn't be surprised either, because again
it's the Fourth of July is on Saturday next.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Year, and it's all hit or miss on weatherwise.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
I mean, it can be brutally hot on the fourth
of July week the one Chicago race here there that's
still until we measure hotness at a racetrack, Is it
Chicago hot or not?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Yeah, the humidity and all that it was. It was
atrocious there and there's no place to hide because you know,
you're out in the middle of you know, the sun.
At least at the at the street course. You could
try to find some shade and sit in there there
when it's hot.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
But sure big Speaking of weather, oh my god, what
could have been worse? Fox has been promoting the Bristol
Speedway Classic for the Cincinnati Reds against the Braves. They've
been talking. I cannot believe the amount of promotion that
they were putting into that baseball game, which was supposed
(26:06):
to be last night at six o'clock on the Big Network.
You know, let's push it, push it, push it. And
they knew in advance it was gonna rain, and they
were so committed to this whole thing that they came
on last night, went through the whole rigamarole and tried
to start the game. It had a two hour and
some minute delay. Here you're on the big network and
(26:28):
you're killing time with stupid crap.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Chase Elliott and Kyle Bush were there even, Yes, how
about that?
Speaker 3 (26:34):
You know, I know you guys Areowa in Iowa tomorrow,
but you're playing over to Bristol for us well and
entertain these guys and talk about racing in case it rains. Well,
of course it rained, and they played an inning and
a third and it was the water was standing in
the infield. I mean, it was really ugly. And so
(26:56):
what happened was they finally came out and put all
this I don't know what that diamond they call it
diamond dust, I guess, but it's just to put some
fresh dirt down there. And then they covered it. And
they're gonna say they they postponed it until noon today.
Now I haven't looked, and I don't know what programming
(27:16):
is supposed to be, but it might be on Channel
six in Milwaukee. It might be pushed over to Fox
Sports one because FS one, you know, it doesn't have
a committed programming like they do on Fox. So I'm
not sure exactly if they're going to jump over to
that or not. I didn't see it. But there's a
thirty percent chance of rain today too, you know, they
(27:38):
might be dealing with the same crap today. We just no,
just play the game in it, you know, Oh good god.
It's already one to nothing too, so get that to
look forward to. Also, I did have two tickets to
that game, that's right. I did not go. I was
when it first came out that it might be kind of.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
Cool cool and if you had tickets to speedway motorsports races.
I had tickets to Vegas. You got it off then
to get tickets before everybody else did. It wasn't terribly
expensive for the higher and the seats weren't super close,
but they weren't super far. They're middle seats. I thought
about doing it, and then as they kind of came
more and more and like, I don't want to. I
don't want to give up the sports car weegue and
(28:14):
I rode America, and that's kind of why I came here,
and I'm kind of glad I didn't right now because
that would have been a mess to go through.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
I've heard estimates between eighty and ninety thousand. I don't
know is that what they sold or is that what
they expected.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
I think that's what they sold. I don't know how
many gonna show up.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Oh my well, I don't know what kind of walk
up you have in the eastern on the Virginia, Tennessee
state line. I do know it's the first ever baseball
game ever played in the state of Tennessee. So that's
should be a big deal for those for those folks,
for those volunteer folks, and get out there and see
what they can. We'll see starting at noon. I don't
(28:51):
know where it'll be, but we're happy you're tuned into
this program. We've got a few other things to talk about,
which we'll cover after this break. We're making mad happy
right now. We'll be back in just a couple of minutes.
Hanging in there with it.

but Tuesday would be the day an.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Indy car show cars at the fair this week. Maybe
it's a good place to meet up there. Wow, Okay,
that's interesting.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Let's see.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
I don't know. We're going in the afternoon, so seeing
who's I would imagine this does have to work. You know,
we have to work. Oh that's right, I forgot about
those days. No apologies for me. This is a big
deal this week. Howl does Roger Penske eighty something right?
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Yeah, he's in his upper eighties.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Upper eighties. Maybe he's thinking, you know, I don't know
how long I'm going to live, but if I can
get up between one hundred and twenty five and one
hundred and thirty five million dollars to sell one third
of the Indie Car franchise that includes the track, the
series and all of that.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
I'm taking it.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
And that's what he did.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
This week, eight years old eighty eight. Okay, so worth
is five point eight billion with a B.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
The series was when he paid for it, didn't he
pay like four hundred at the time. So I don't
know if this is really any kind of He didn't
make a whole lot of money to sell a third
of it for that kind of money, about one say
one thirty average.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
But and listen to me throwing.
Speaker 17 (34:12):
Million dollars nine digit numbers.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Around, like I know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
The IndyCar series doesn't seem to me to be that great.
They have one race that is the ultimate race, and
the rest of it is if you don't believe me.
Last week on television, NASCAR Cup Series on TNT had
two point five million dollar, million dollars million viewers. The
(34:39):
Exfinity series had one point one Formula one on ESPN.
By the way, Exfinity is on CW Channel eighteen. ESPN
had Formula one, they had a million, and IndyCar on
the Big Network on Fox only had seven hundred and
thirty four thousand because it wasn't the Indianapolis five hundred.
(34:59):
Basically you're buying the Indy five hundred, right.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
But so far in twenty twenty five, the season is
averaging a thirty one percent increase in viewership from over
the past previous years, and the Indy five hundred had
a forty one percent increase wow the previous years. So
I mean, we haven't seen IndyCar numbers over the years.
It's always been buried on whatever channel NBC put it
(35:24):
on over the years. So there's obviously an increase going
on and it is looking strong to the point where
Foxes they want to get involved with this, which is
which is big for IndyCar to do it. So I
mean the series itself as a whole. Their crowds at
the events other than Iowa are way up this year.
I mean this place this year had a but it
was a thirty five percent ticket increase from the previous
(35:44):
year at Road America here for this race, we'll see
what We'll see what Milwaukee does.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
But last year's Milwaukee crowds were outstanding.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
So their product in person is really good and their
TV pro product from years past is on the uprise.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
So that is where I think think Fox is interested
in this. Well, I mean you can schedule it against investment, right.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
Yeah, and you can't schedule it against the NASCAR race.
I coud last week and they ran head to head
and that you had to look at somehow working that better.
Which now the Fox buying this, the series and the track.
A lot of people online and there are some talk
about what happened with the brick there at four hundred.
Does it stay where it's at because right now it's
in the portion of the schedule which is either NBC
or TNT some other network. And if Fox the third
(36:25):
of the racetrack, do they want another network broadcasting the race.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
I don't know. I mean maybe they don't care.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yeah, Well, they've been known to pressure NASCAR to change
the schedule around in the past to accommodate television.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
It seems like TV.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Is the reason behind this goofy playoff format that we
have and playoff points and all that stuff. You know,
I don't really consider myself an old timer, but that
you don't have to be an old timer to not
think this is the greatest system in the world. It's
all contrived drama. As far as I'm concern do we
(37:01):
really need it? Well, I don't know that any of
our opinions matter because the people that pay the bills,
which is the television networks, they want it. NBC is
the one that pushed for it, and they're the ones
that have it. And then you know, that's it is
what it is, and I don't think anything is going
to change in the near future no matter how many
polls that Mark Martin has that says people don't like it. Well, people,
(37:26):
you know, aren't the networks. We're trying to compete with
the NFL and that's basically what the motivating factor was
behind this whole schedule.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
So well, I think people just want racing to be
different because we always thought it was different and we
never was the same. And they're kind of trying to
tailor it to sticking ball sports. They don't tailor those
sports to the racing. No, you know, why do we
have to go that way?
Speaker 4 (37:45):
Way?
Speaker 6 (37:45):
And then if you're not a race fan, I kind
of get where the network's coming from. You want this
excitement stuff, but you get something happening like I don't
where's Seane then Gezberger now in points he was thirty
something before now he's up more because he wants some races.
But you have the equivalent of the team. That's how
bad the Cleveland Browns were before. You know, the they
automatically get in the playoffs and win the super Bowl.
You know, That's what was going on there. So we
(38:07):
got to find something to prevent that from happening.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
It's funny. He brought up SVG the Oval Trek education
of Shane Van Gizberg and continues he what was that
he won? There's a pretty big Legends show at Charlotte
Brian right, Well, they run Legends there every year. I
think it's either Tuesday or Wednesday night there and a
lot of a lot of the you know guys with
their kids, Kyle Busch's kid, you know, Harvick's kids always
(38:30):
get started down there.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
So they show up.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
And then they have a division for what they call
the pros, which are just basically older guys or racers.
They put a car together and they run it, so
Bubba Wallace competes in it. Bubba was talking about and
its post race presser last week, him and Scotty McLaughlin
from the Hindycar Series running that. And then SVG has
been in there too, just to try to hone his skills.
So we finally won a feature this week, so that
was pretty cool about that. Bubba says, he's just terrible there.
(38:54):
I don't know how I can win in Indianapolis, but
I can't win in a Legends car at Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
He goes, I don't get it.
Speaker 13 (39:00):
Uh uh.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
My friend Bill Pritzel once told me that the Legends
car was the hardest car he's ever driven. And he's
driven in dirt pavement, road courses, ovals, and he says
that that Legends car is the most difficult.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
It looks like a challenge just to get into the
darn thing. I mean you kind of squeeze yourself in here.
It looks like you I think your butt is about
two inches off the ground when you're riding the thing.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Speaking of SVG, he qualified right in the middle of
the pack today at this race. Every no one has
raced here before, so everything we're going in kind of equal.
Not actually say no one. There's been a couple of well.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
They raced their last year. A couple series are in
there last year at night.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Yeah, so I mean, you know, well, it's it's a
limited experience. I'll we'll put it that way, and so
he's he's doing all right. If this guy gets even
average on ovals, he could be really a force to
be reckoned with. We're glad you're tuned in. Brian's got
some results, and so does PJ. As a matter of fact,
when we come back hanging there, Indy Car is.

And finally, the big money race of the week was
up at New Richmond, Wisconsin, Ceeda Lake Speedway, the thirtieth
Annual USA Nationals for the World of out Law Real
American Beer Late Models. One hundred thousand dollars to win,
and Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa picked up the big
money went up there. Pretty cool to see someone not
(48:02):
named Pierce, not named Davenport, and not named Thornton pick
up wins like that. He led the vast majority of
that race and pretty much just kicked their ass. So
congratulations to Ryan Gustin on a big win up there.
And that is everything for this week.
Speaker 7 (48:15):
All right, onto the asphalt side of things. We'll start
on Thursday night and loop back to Slinger at the end.

The Zmax Car's Tour was running at Hickory Motor Speedway. However,
they had a competition caution during the Pro Late Modal
race and all of a sudden they got hit by rain.
So with only forty laps completed, Caden Honeycutt was the
leader at that time. They're going to complete that race
and run the late model stock cars today. It's a
(50:04):
pretty big deal. The sixty laps left in the Pro
that race pays thirty thousand to win. The Late Model
stock Car feature that's going to be run today after
that is going to end up paying fifty thousand to win.
Lane Riggs will roll off on the outside of the
front row. Tristan McKee was the fast qualifier. Caden Qopple
will be starting eighteenth in that so it's a pretty
(50:27):
big deal and it starts at twelve thirty Central today
on Flow.
Speaker 4 (50:33):
You will also be able to watch a slinger on
Flow later.
Speaker 7 (50:36):
More on that in just a bit. But then, as
mentioned earlier, the Midwest Tour is also going to be
running on Tuesday at the Wisconsin International Raceway in Kakana
for the Ganrud Auto Group two fifty affectionately known as
the Dixie Land two fifty NASCAR Cup Drivers Eric Jones
Carson Hosov are going to be there, and of course
Tim Majeski from the Truck Series, returning to defend his title.
(50:57):
Five of the last six week Dixlans have gone to
tie a Jeski, so we shall see tonight. It's a
sixth tire race by the way, and there are thirty
cars entered, only twenty four are going to be starting
the race, so five or six guys are going to
be watching the race.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
That one is fifteen thousand to win.
Speaker 7 (51:15):
And then last Sunday, I'll turn it over to Utah I'll.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Tell you what I'll tell you about Slinger Speedway after
we take a break, and we'll be right back.

Last week at Slinger, Dennis Prunty took advantage of the
invert led every single lap of the Carl Wegner Memorial
is a seventh annual already. It's amazing to me that
that guy has gone that long already. One of the
absolute heroes of short track racing in the state of Wisconsin.
(55:08):
And we had a great turn off. Twenty five super
Late showed up and Dennis Prunty took ten thousand dollars
to win and another two grand in credit from Wagner.
What a greatly supported race by our friends at Wagner
Motorsports too. Peage, what's tonight tonight is?
Speaker 4 (55:26):

There you go. A couple of notes.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Yet, Connor Zillish, who is a can't miss race car
driver at nineteen years old, this week maated that he
wants to race. He want you would love to race
the Indianapolis five hundred someday. Put that in your memory banks.
That kid will be around for a while and that's uh,
that'd be a good one to have in an Indy
car too.
Speaker 7 (56:12):
We got a little Wisconsin nugget as well too with
the Exfinity Series. Thank you to Danny Church Junior. Jordan
Duvoy made his Exfinity Series debut as a team engineer
for Ryan Seeg yesterday. Seek finished eighth in the race
and the car is actually crew chiefd by Matt Noyce
from the Midwest. So more local connections getting infused into
(56:34):
Naskar gues So.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Speaking of which, speaking of local Sam Mayer, who PJ
mentioned one in the Exfinity Series second year in a
roll he is. First of all, it was a Ford
anything but a Chevrolet seems to be a pretty big
deal in the Exfinity. But what I thought of was
it's Hass's only winner. You know, he's got Sheldon Creed
(56:56):
and Cole Custers is the other drivers there. Sam wins.
That's the difference between those the three. Sam actually wins,
so good for him. Austin Hill was suspended, not a surprise.
It was the Iowa race yesterday. He was not in it.
Austin Dylan went in. It was quite the penalty for
(57:19):
Austin Hill. Brian not only five laps during Indianapolis, but
a whole race and all of his playoff points. Yeah,
no kidding, but it could be worse. It was worse
for Josh Williams this week. Very popular driver, colleague fire
(57:39):
Josh Williams. You know, it's a performance based industry, what
can we say?
Speaker 4 (57:44):
And he wasn't doing it.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
He had He was a very likable guy, a little
bit like Matt de Benedetto and a little bit like
Haley Degan. Uh, they're all social media darlings. Unfortunately, that
doesn't win your races. It keeps you around for a while,
but you know, I ultimately you're gonna have to win
if you want to hang around in this sport. So
he was replaced by Carson Holsavar yesterday. Not to blow
(58:09):
horse Ar's horn for him, but you know, he did
pretty good in that car. You never saw Josh Williams
running up front, and Wholsavar definitely ran up front.
Speaker 4 (58:19):
Yesterday, right, yeah, so in his pretty mouth, well just yeah, yeah,
there's that too. All right, Well, Dan, why don't we
you brought it up.
Speaker 3 (58:33):
You can start.
Speaker 18 (58:34):
I'll Chase Elliott, Okay, I'll take Ryan Blaney, you just
you just love him, and Brian I'll take Denny Hamlin
and as a bonus pick, I'll take here the sixty.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
Car by Akira Meyer, Shank Racing, Tom Blunquist, and Colin
Brown to win here. Colin Brown NASCAR tie, he's used
to run a NASCAR He's not going the rest of
his career without winning. I'm taking Ed Keselowski today at Iowa.
A good starting spot and got a good car, and
now we'll see if you can actually come through and
(59:09):
win it. It's a two thirty Central time green flag
for the Cup race today.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
Bad good weather and all that. Oh yeah, We're almost no. Hey,
real race cars have doors, even if they do climb
in through the windows. We'll see you next week.
