From various locations via the miracle of Skype.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's the ltn R.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Let's Talk Nascar with your host Todd Baaling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta Go
show anytime at four one four, four two one seventy
nine oh one, and now the creator and host of
the fastest seller in radio, Todd Ling.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Hey, thanks for joining us.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
The racing season is upon us. My god, we're one
week removed from the the really the first event of
the year last week at Bowman.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Gray the Clash of course.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
One week from today is the actual kickoff to the season,
the Daytona five hundred, which means today we'll just have
to bide our time and pretend we're watching the super Bowl. Okay,
there's a lot of people that watch the Super Bowl
and it'll be fun and it's usually a party, and
you know, you go to the grocery store and that's

(01:12):
all I have is stuff for your super Bowl party. Well,
I'm calling and talking to you from lovely, sunny, warm Phoenix, Arizona,
where we've had several high temperature records this week that
I don't want to bring up anymore, and my three
partners who've been back with y'all enjoying that beautiful Wisconsin weather,

(01:34):
starting with Utzburg, Wisconsin's Brian Schmidt. Hi, Brian morning.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Yeah, it's not real beautiful, but it is what it is.
Get through it. We have to get warm by looking
through the TV or your computer screen or your device
all week because speed week's full swing right now.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
It certainly is. PJ in Trempolo, Wisconsin. Hi.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
We have Hi there, we have sunshine, but it's only
eleven degrees here.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
By the way, you weren't with us last week. You
were a little under the well how you feeling.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
I feel a lot better. I can breathe and don't
have the credit as bad in my lungs.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
And our traveling companion, Dan Margetta, who's from Saint Francis,
but I have a feeling he's not in Saint Francis.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
No, not this week.

Speaker 6 (02:23):
I'm in Wisconsin Dells this week and got it, you know,
at the Hochs my casino. Got I've got to pay
for that Daytona five hundred trip coming up this week.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Wait a minute, Usually you leave there, you know, saying
I shouldn't have gone to a casino right before I
was going on Vaca. Yeah, that's that's not how the
playbook works with Dan Margetta. He goes and stocks up
on cash when he leaves casinos. Just makes no sense whatsoever. Well,
we talked briefly about last week. It was the first

(02:54):
time since nineteen seventy one that the Cup Series had
a race, albeit a points race, at Bowman Gray. We
didn't really know what to expect since it's mostly a
one groove race track. But I'll tell you something. Chase Elliott,

(03:14):
you know you expected him to possibly win since he
was starting on the pole. There were other good cars
behind him. Way behind him starting at the rear of
the field was that number twelve car, and Ryan Blaney
ended up second, making this, believe it or not, a
pretty damn good show on a track where you wouldn't

(03:36):
think it would be that good, even though Elliott led
one hundred and seventy four out of two hundred laps. Guys,
I think that that show made the whole thing worthwhile,
didn't you.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yeah. I was way more passing than I thought there
was going to be. I mean, I thought it was
going to be a physical pound fest. Guys would have
to knock themselves out of the way, you know, that
type of deal. But we didn't have any of that.
It was very It was like short track racing. It
was real racing like you should normally see. So I
was I was very impressed with it. I didn't it
kind of blew me away as to what it was like.

(04:08):
You know, I mean it's slow, slower pace. You know,
a lot of people don't like that. But the fans
were engaged and uh, you know, we didn't have the
the ridiculous mad house guys fighting all kinds of crowds.
I mean, I'm not into that stuff. Some are, but
I'm not. So that's why. That's why I thought it
was pretty successful. I was.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
PJ your your sentiment.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
I was just thrilled to see Ryan Blaney actually making
a show out.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Of it, to say the least. That was absolutely the case. Dan.
You didn't have money on that, did you. No?

Speaker 6 (04:44):
I did not, But I'm I was happy with the
way the event went and the way everything was run.
I wish you would come back there and get another shot.
I'm not sure if they will. I think it fits.
It was a pretty good short track race, and and
the area it's in is this racing town and a
racing the crowds into it. You know, you got all
that stuff. It doesn't have the pizazz of LA but
it had everything else that race fans like.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, yeah, how about that at a historic venue like that.
It was in the forties. People were dressed warmly for
this one.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Brian.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
You you brought up a pretty good point. Perhaps if
they had had it earlier in the day, it might
have made a difference.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yeah, I mean, that's the only question I have. I mean,
I remember the camera panning to some kid in the
stands who looked like he was falling asleep, you know.
I mean by the time that race ended, that was
ten thirty at night local time on a Sunday night,
when you know people have to go to school and
work the next day. And I know you want the
dark because they had the fancy lights, you know, with
the during the starting lineups and all that stuff. But
you know, it was dark for about four hours by

(05:44):
time that ended five hours sometimes. So I know it's
about TV, and I know the people on the West
Coast where it used to be you want to see
it in prime time. So I get all that, But
I mean I haven't really seen a lot of feedback
from you know, NASCAR, Like the first year of the Clash.
I mean they had you know, Steve Phelps was even
in the media center afterwards talking about the event and

(06:05):
all that stuff. I didn't see that with Bowman Gray.
And that's what worries me that NASCAR just put it there, thinking,
all right, it's nothing we're going to get by with
for the year. We'll save a little bit of expenses
because everybody can sleep in their own bed. But I mean,
I hope they embraced it and liked as much as what,
you know, most of the purists did. I just don't
know if that's the case.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, it only seats like seventeen thousand people, but they
were enthusiastic. It made a really wonderful racing atmosphere. The
drivers seemed to love it, the fans were totally into it,
and all of that was good. But now, if you'll
remember when NASCAR brought the Clash to the Los Angeles Coliseum,

(06:43):
they said in advance it was going to be a
three year deal, much like the Chicago Road Course race.
We know we're going to do this for three years
and then we will reevaluate everything. They By the best
of my memory, I don't think they ever said Bowman
Gray was going to be a three year deal?

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Was it? I know? And that's because it's a racetrack
that's always going to be there, so I guess it doesn't.
You know, they spent the money to upgrade it and
do some safety aspects to it and make it better.
But you know, if they come back, they come back.
If they don't, well, now bo mcgray's got some nice
new fancy amenities that they're going to be able to
use for their weekly event Coliseum in Chicago. You had
to build that for that event, so you kind of

(07:22):
had to know if you're going to get the resources
for it, you got to do this for some limited
amount of time.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
The other thing is too I think NASCAR just doesn't
really want to reveal too much of its plans because
they don't even know what's going to be happening.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Yeah, there's been some very odd talk this week. You know,
they come off and a successful stop. Me if this
sounds familiar with Road America. They come off a very
successful event and with everybody saying wonderful things about it,
and the first thing they're talking about. Is there's there's

(07:57):
all these rumors that it could move around.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Now.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
I don't know that moving the clash around is a
bad idea, but you have to remember some things because
you know, it is February and you have to kind
of stay into a warm weather location. So what are
the names of the places that they're kicking around this week?
First one is Brazil. Well, there's an idea, let's.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Ship all our I thought that was a wax job.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, this is completely different than that. Where the hell
did the Packers play Brazil or Argentine?

Speaker 7 (08:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:35):
They're in Brazil?

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah, all right, all right, so okay, yeah, I suppose
there's going to be race fans down there. Is it
really worth sending everything down there for that? I guess
that's one of the things they're talking about. The other
one was somewhere in Europe Dubai. Europe has the same
weather that we have basically.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Well Dubai, it's always hot there, so you do Bai.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
I didn't see that one. That's the Dubai clash.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
One of the other things you're gonna have to look into.
With it being Super Bowl week and all the radio
shows from Radio Row, there's a lot of talk that
in NFL by twenty twenty seven is gonna have their
super Bowl on President's Day, which is now daytona five
hundred week. So NASCAR, while they're thinking about what they
want to do with the clash, are also gonna have
to figure out how are they gonna line everything up?

(09:26):
You know, right now, we do the clash, we have
the super Bowl for the week, then we do the
five hundred. If they move the super Bowl forward a week,
that would be next weekend. Now, because they're gonna play
an eighteen game schedule, where are you gonna put your
five hundred? Are you gonna push everybody back on the
NASCAR side of it? And then we're gonna be having
the championship race right before Thanksgiving like we used to do,

(09:47):
And then you're gonna, you know, be that many more
weeks into the season, and then where's that clash gonna land?
Then you know, when are you gonna play NFL? Are
you gonna have your weekend between the super Bowl? Then
I would assume they are, but you never know with them.
So there's a lot of moving parts here over the
next two years. After that announcement came just the other
Day in twenty twenty seven Super Bowls. That's only two

(10:09):
years from now.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
By the way, they keep talking about there should be
there should be a holiday after the super Bowl, like
Hangover Day or.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Something called President's Day. That's why they want.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
To do that day. Yeah, I always liked it because
it was a built in travel day coming home from
daytona five hundred. I hope they don't mess that up.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
We'll be back.

Speaker 8 (10:29):

Bob Uker's impact on Milwaukee and Wisconsin exceeds anything that
happened on a baseball diamond.

One such thing is the Bob Ucher Endowed Chair in
Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This

To all involved, thank you.

Speaker 12 (12:31):
This message of gratitude is presented by the Medical College
of Wisconsin and WISN Radio.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Welcome back to WELTM. This is indeed a treat for
us because we get to talk to Josh Bilicki, who
has been Wisconsin's only cup driver. If I'm remembering right,
it's been a while since we've had very many drivers
that come from the good old cheese land. Josh joins
us right now. First of all, Josh, from all of

(13:03):
us here, congratulations on becoming a new dad. You and
your wife Caitlin had Cole Michael a couple of weeks ago.
How's the fatherhood business coming along?

Speaker 13 (13:16):
Heil, Thank you very much first of all for having me,
and thank you for that too. It's it's been incredible
for first time parents. So obviously there's a lot of unknowns.
His due date was actually today, so he came a
week and a half early, which works out great for
my schedule with Daytona being next week. I was a

(13:37):
little bit worried at first with is he gonna come
in time? You know, if he does come in time,
how's my wife gonna gonna handle me leaving two days
after he's born. So, you know, Thank the Lord, he
came just a few weeks early, so I was able
to spend basically two weeks with him. And he's he's good,
Mama's healthy. It's just obviously a small adjustment with with

(14:00):
our sleep schedule and and schedule, which is obviously managing,
you know, my career. But we're we're navigating it and
it's it's been a lot of fun. You know, it's
only been you know, two weeks, but I already feel
like he's grown quite a bit. So I'm excited to
see his growth over the next couple of years, and
I'm excited to eventually one day get him into a

(14:21):
go part Dad.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
What a great name. You are an accomplished road course racer.
We've known that you are an SCA guy.

Speaker 13 (14:31):
Correct, Yeah, So My background is karting. Grew up racing
at Badgrickcart Club in Delsman, Wisconsin, and then after KRTS,
moved into racing in the SECA and really multiple different classes,
but mainly out of go karts. I ran a class
called Spec Meata, which is just a Mosda Meata base

(14:52):
with with some small performance enhancements, but it's it's a
spec class, so it's very, very competitive, and we ran
at Road America the SCA runoffs. There were seventy five cars,
so it doesn't matter if you're racing up front, it
doesn't matter if you're racing in the middle of the
pack or the back pack. You're racing somebody at all times.
And it was a great learning experience, and it actually

(15:14):
took me a little bit to comprehend how to drive
those cars because when I was racing go karts at
the end of my carting career, I was racing shifter carts,
which are power to weight ratio closest thing to Formula
one car, and you go from that which has fifty
horse power in a you know cart that weighs three
hundred and fifty pounds, to a full sized car that
has one hundred and twenty horse power and it weighs

(15:37):
twenty four hundred pounds. It was an adjustment because the
car just had no power, but it really taught you
to keep the momentum up and I still use that
skill set to this day racing a NASCAR. So yeah,
long story short, you know, raced SECA for a while
out of you know, out of my parents' garage pretty much,
and respect me out of class and I was able

(15:57):
to pick up some fowndship and go in racing, which
is a pro sports car series, and then some trans
am stuff before I moved in NASCAR.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
So, and you've been in NASCAR now ten years, and
it's it's a dog eat dog world and you really
have to be able to get sponsorships to survive. What
is the secret sauce for you, Josh Bulicky, to be
able to continue to survive ten years through all the
politics and the sponsorship needs.

Speaker 13 (16:28):
It's it's tough. I mean, it's a grind. There are
times where honestly I've I've contemplanted, contemplated, you know, do
I even want to do this? And the toughest part
about our industry is it's obvious you need backing. You know,
whether it comes from the team, whether it's your family,
whether it's sponsorship. You know, I was very fortunate. My
dad took care of me through the amateur racing and

(16:48):
he made me work, you know, while I was racing
in SECA. He made me work and buy my tires,
but we couldn't fund anything out of really amateur racing.
And so he always taught me really early, don't be
afraid to to you know, work hard, ask questions, you know,
ask sponsors, sponsors if you want to support us. So
just from a real early age, I was a go geter,

(17:10):
you know, always going out after new sponsors and partners
and you know, connecting the dots with people that I
already know. And that really has carried through my whole
professional racing career. And you know, one reason I think
I'm still active in the sport today is because I'm
not afraid to work hard.

Speaker 9 (17:29):
You know.

Speaker 13 (17:29):
There's times, you know, even this last week, you know,
with a new baby, obviously it's it's kind of throwing
a wrench into my work schedule, but you know, up
until midnight, you know, grinding and actually my team and
I DGM Racing to put together a new sponship deal
for Atlanta which is in two weeks, so you know,
I'm managing that and I'm taking care of the press
release and just really you can't be afraid to work hard.

(17:50):
And I think some people just get kind of you know,
they their passion kind of goes away when they see
what it takes to stay in this industry so long.
It's so much work, and it can be demoralizing at
times even you know, I'll use a guy like Ryan
TRUICKX as an example. He drove for Joe gibbson. He

(18:10):
won i think five of his ten races over the
last two or three years in the Exfinity Series and
he doesn't have a full time ride this year, you know,
So that kind of shows you even winning doesn't always
cure your problems. Money cures your problems in our industry unfortunately.
So I just really buckle down and try to manage
my sponsors and bring in new sponsors so I can

(18:32):
stay in the industry.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Yeah, how do you go about approaching a new sponsor?
I'm thinking like this year, you have Rita's on the
car as a company from Pennsylvania, and how does the
guy from Wisconsin convince them to first, you know, take
a chance on being a NASCAR team, and then to
stick around and go for more next year.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (18:51):
So Rita's Italian Ice is a company that for us
here in Wisconsin we're not very familiar with, but it's
exactly what it sounds. Italian ice and custard very popular
down south and on the East Coast too, which is
obviously perfect for the NASCAR market. We raced Pocono last year,
and leading into the race, we didn't have a sponsor.

(19:11):
So I really liked Pocono and I was kind of
scheduled to drive for DGM Racing at that race regardless
of if we had a sponsor. But I knew that
if we had a sponsor, it would put us in
a better position going into the race weekend. So I
put a lot of focus on finding sponsorship for that race.
And one technique I have found, which is kind of
a little secret of mine, which it won't be too

(19:32):
much of a secret anymore, is, you know, if we're
racing in Pocono, I'll look at a lot of the
other local tracks around that area, you know that might
not host NASCAR races, they might only host you know,
weekly shows. But I look at some of their marketing partners,
and then I mean I spend the time look at
these marketing partners and figure out, all, right, you know,

(19:53):
is this a local company that their budget's only going
to be five thousand dollars or is this brand? You know?
Are they and wide? And Ritos had come across my
website numerous times when I was looking at local tracks
in Pennsylvania. Obviously they're they're based not far from Pocono,
but they're a nationwide brand. They have over five hundred locations,

(20:14):
so it just kind of seemed like a perfect fit.
And when I reached out to the I reach out
directly of the CEO on Tuesday before Pocono. Within five minutes,
she came back to me and said, if this is
a real sponship opportunity.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
We'll do it.

Speaker 13 (20:27):
So let me tell you, it always doesn't work that easy.
I mean, I probably had one hundred and fifty pitches
out for Pocono and you might only get a response
back on one hundred and thirty of them. If that so,
you know, I'd say for every single, you know, one
hundred no's, you might get one. Maybe, you know, then

(20:48):
if you're lucky that maybe I'll turn into yes. And
that was the scenario with Ritos.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Oh weird to impress that. Wisconsin's Josh PULICKI, Josh, if
you can hang on through a break, we'd appreciate it.
We've got some more questions. Oh yeah, and we'll be
back with Josh right after these. Miller's sales and service

Speaker 3 (23:23):
They are talking with Josh Bilicki, who was getting ready
to make the trip to Daytona for his annual trick.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Brian, Yeah, Josh, last year you got to drive the
Gibbs Car for a couple of events and after that
was done, talked about possibly doing that again this year.
How was that looking for? And I know you got
a partial schedule with DGM this year. Any chance we'll
see you back in a Gibbs car in twenty twenty five?

Speaker 13 (23:47):
Yeah, that really was an incredible opportunity and I'm super
thankful for that opportunity from Gibbs and all our sponsors.
The conversation is happening. It's died down a little bit.
You know, as I mentioned before the break, you know,
racing requires sponsorship dollars, and you know, there are some
drivers that drive for teams that manage the sponship dollars,
you know, but I would I would say seventy five

(24:08):
percent of drivers in NASCAR, in all three series mostly
are required to bring their own sponsorship dollars. And it's unfortunate.
But you know, I feel like we ran well. I
don't feel like we got that the finishes we deserved.
And at the end of the day, like I said,
it just takes sponship dollars. So I don't know if
Gibbs will be an option for me this year. Well,

(24:29):
it's certainly an option. I don't know if I'll be
selecting that option. We have a couple of other options
on the table that are very competitive options in the
top three series, and I'm not opposed to even a
Truck Series opportunity if it means that we can try
to win a race. You know, I think at my
point in my career, you know, it's my tenth season now,

(24:50):
I really want to win a race, whether it's a
road course, whether it's an oval, and we're just kind
of looking at all options with my sponsorship dollars and
seeing really what's the that's bang for our buck without
losing that quality. And you know, hopefully in the next
couple of weeks we'll have something to announce.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Speaking of winning races, one of the coolest things I
saw last summer was I went out to Plymouth one
night and you were running the three sixty sprint car there.

Speaker 15 (25:14):
For uh for his names right now, yes, yeah, And
and you were line up any heat race with champion
Ben Schmidt and a couple other heavy hitters out there
and went out and won that heat race.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
That was cool. Now, the sprint car thing, I mean,
talk about diversity. You know, road racing, NASCAR stuff, Sprint
car racing doesn't seem to quite fit in there. But
you've you've become a pretty accomplished little racer in the
sprint car in the last couple of seasons. What are
you looking like going forward for this year?

Speaker 13 (25:42):
And that well, I appreciate that the sprint car has
definitely been honestly my favorite form of racing in many,
many years, just because it's it's so different and part
of the reason I started racing a sprint car is
because of it's so different. You know. It's it's a
car that's not very comfortable to drive. And I don't
mean like seating position. I mean to drive the car

(26:04):
fast year out of your comfort zone. And that's something
I feel like maybe in the past I've struggled with
a little bit on the NASCAR side because I don't
have an oval background. I felt myself struggling sometimes with
the sensation you get when the car is really loose
on corner entry, and what's a spring car. Sprint car
is always loose on corner entry. So you know, the

(26:24):
first first time I drove a sprint car was in
twenty twenty three, so it's not like I have a
lot of experience. But I was able to put together
some decent runs last year, winning a heat race. You know,
it was definitely pretty cool. We want to win a
main race. Just the cars didn't fall right last year,
but that was in the three sixty. We actually had
plans to run the four ten and then to last year.

(26:47):
Actually a fair night last year. I was running second,
I was running down the leader in the main and
I made a small mistake. I just overdrove entry, I
spun out and I got hit and we damaged the
car and with the cost to fix the car with
their team owner, but that took away all the extra
budget I had to go four to ten racing for
the end of the year. So my goal for this

(27:08):
year is to run the four ten as much as
I can in between my off time. My NASCAR schedule
this year is pretty busy compared to last year. Last
year I had about twenty five races. This year, it's
looking like I'll probably have over a thirty five between
all three series. So you know, if I have an
off weekend and there's a race that lines up, it's,
you know, preferably a four ten race, I'll try to
make it work. Just unfortunately, I don't think I'll be

(27:30):
in the sprint car as much, and that's tough because
you're racing against guys that are in those cars every
single weekend and you know, sometimes twice in the weekend.
So the goal, you know, once a month is definitely tough.
But I will continue to do it because I love it.

Speaker 4 (27:47):
And Heavy with Simple Siple is gonna put the four
ten together for you.

Speaker 13 (27:51):
That will be with Simple, But there's also some options
to run for a couple of different teams, and you know,
especially kind of expanding my schedule. You know, if I
can find a race that's near our NASCAR race, even
if it's a bigger series. You know, I'm not expecting
to go out with the World of Outlaws and even
make the AMATE at this point. You know, hopefully one
day I can. But you know, there's races all around

(28:12):
the country that line up with our NASCAR schedules. So
you know, the bulk of them here in Wisconsin will
be with Simpul in the four ten. But I'm not
a post adding any others on my schedule too.

Speaker 6 (28:23):
And now you're you're bulk, You're NASCAR races this year
are going to be in the Xcinity Series with DGM Racing. Correct,
and you how you guys set up for Daytona coming
up here?

Speaker 13 (28:31):
That is correct? Yep, I'll be the anchor driver for
the ninety one car this year. You know, probably I'm
going to guess twenty five of the thirty three races,
so that's you know, most of the races. We're going
to Daytona with Elease Motor, which you pretty much have
to now, you know, we showed up to Daytona in
twenty twenty two without a lease motor. We qualified decent,
raced really well, finished inside the top ten. Showed up

(28:53):
the next year with the same exact package Mario's own motor,
a good car, and we missed the race. So and then,
you know, we've always basically made a decision, all right,
we need to raise the extra budget for Daytona to
have a lease motor. So we're going there with the
Hendrick lease motor. We feel really good. You know, we're
not expecting to qualify, you know, fight for the pole
and qualifying, but Mario always gives me a car that

(29:14):
race is really really good at Daytona. You know, I
think I would rather have a car that sucks up
and handles really good in the draft rather than a
car that's really fast by itself but is not great
in the pack. So I'm excited for Daytona. And then
we go to Atlanta too, which is kind of a
smaller version of Daytona. And then we go to Coda,
which is a road course. So I'm excited for the
first three.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Well, you've done a lot, You've raced the Sprint Cars
is a Cup Cars Exfinity Cars, road course racer a
lot on But I'll tell you what. We're looking forward
to your next ice race because we know you can
win on the ice.

Speaker 13 (29:53):
You know, we we I think it was twenty nineteen
won the World Championships soombil derby up an Eagle River
in Outlaws six hundred sleds. So I would love to
do that again. I've never had the chance to go back.
It just doesn't allow the best schedule. But basically those
cars are Outlaw six hundreds. If you don't know what
they are, they're like a micro, like a dirt micro

(30:14):
with a snowbial engine and offset track in the back
and then two skis up front, so you drive it
actually somewhat similar to a dirt car, and it was
a lot of fun. I would love to go back
and do it.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
So those those guys at the hockey game on the tricycles,
they didn't really that's what.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
I was talking about.

Speaker 13 (30:29):
What you're talking about. Oh yeah, Johnny Sunder and I
had a good run at at at the hockey game
and we we we won the race. That was pretty
cool too. If we Hey, that was my first race
of the year. We want it so hopefully that means
this will be a good year.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Thanks for taking a little time with us, Josh, and
the good luck Daytona and Atlanta and the rest of
the year. You're going to be a busy guy. It'll
be fun to follow you.

Speaker 13 (30:54):
Thank you so much. I appreciate you guys having me.
Have a great day, Josh.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
Right now.

hilarious and he's got a really great program going on.
Lots of big shows coming up this year at Cedar Lake.
So you can check that out both on YouTube or
anywhere you get your podcast wherever you listen to LTN.

Speaker 4 (33:44):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
We're like almost a team here. Jim is on the
phone with us from Delafield, Wisconsin. Jim, welcome to the program.

Speaker 7 (33:54):
Oh yeah, good morning. Question for you God, could you
get an update on Matt Kim Is he still going
to be working with the Jimmy Johnson crowd and if so,
what are his duties there?

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Boy, that's really a good question because I had when
we we had him on here last year with Robbie
Riser and uh, and I accused him of not following NASCAR,
and he said, well, and you're not watching because i'm,
you know, driver coach with Jimmy Johnson said, I forgot
about that, but he didn't offer very many specifics.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
I think that's a.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Pretty good question, and I think that'll be a good
reason for me to text him this week and find
out exactly what he does.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
Uh huh. And one other thing I want to throw
out there, because you guys always have your ears down
to the ground, is there any talk of President Trump
coming out of Daytona five hundred, because obviously he's going
to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (34:53):
Is going to be there, You're right, And there's a
repoort out there that says he's supposed to be there.
I don't seeny thing official yet, but there are reports
that it.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Was in the works. Jim Trail get to introduce them
for the second time. That's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
I don't think they're going to put a lot of
specifics out there just because.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yeah, of the weirdos. Yeah, it's bad enough that they
told them we're going to be in up the stadium today.
I'm sorry, Go ahead, Jim, Yeah, I have a good one. Okay, thanks,
thanks for the call. We do appreciate it. If anyone
else wants to call the program, why Jim remembered it.
But in case you don't know the number, it's four

(35:31):
one four four two seventy nine oh one.

Speaker 14 (35:35):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
This is speed Week in Daytona tomorrow if anybody is
headed down there by tomorrow or to say this afternoon
or tomorrow. There is a party used to be called
the Wisconsin Party that went away long ago, but it's
now called the Midwest Party. It's at a place called
the hard Deck Tiki Bar. It's a tiki bar, and

(36:00):
it's at twenty nine hundred Bellevue Avenue, and it's at
six thirty tomorrow night. Tuesday is a good night to
go to New SMYRNA. The ASA Stars will be racing there.
It will be televised on track TV and Flow gets underway.
We figure approximately six thirty Milwaukee time, maybe a little before.

(36:23):
Kind of watch it and see when they tell you
Wednesday busy day. At seven o'clock on FS one, it's
qualifying for the Daytona five hundred. On Thursday, we have
the qualifier races, which actually have more storylines than they
have had in the last couple of years because there
are then six or seven open cars trying to make

(36:45):
the race.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
Yeah, there's a lot this year and it's only come
down there's two open spots, right, I mean, so there's
actually gonna meet something in the qualifiers On Thursday.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
It'll be fun.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Friday will be the truck race that will be carried
on FS one at six thirty. Verge begins at six thirty.
On Saturday, they've got two different events at Daytona. Uh,
the Arca Race, which we've lovingly called the Human Sacrifice
two hundred over the years, is at eleven o'clock. That
will be on Fox on the Big Network, and then

(37:17):
later in the afternoon, the Exfinity Race will be at
four o'clock on the CW Network Channel eighteen in Milwaukee
if I'm remembering about sixteen in Madison something like that.
And then of course a week from today, the five
hundred covered starts at one thirty on Fox. We'll talk
more about it as the time gets.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
And if you've seen the forecast for the Florida area,
it is absolutely spectacular this year, far cry from what
we had to deal with last year. I mean, load
of mid eighties every day, no chance of rain. So
this looks like it's going to be a spectacular week
as it was this past week.

Speaker 5 (37:51):
Down there, and Toby's already rubbing it in its seventy five.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Everybody who lives in this house, with the exception of me,
is there right now. So it come home today and
the cars do get on the track on Wednesday at
nine o'clock in the morning our time for a fifty
minute practice session. I would imagine that will be covered somewhere.
You just have to check your local listings. But coffee
with NASCAR Wednesday morning their first practice lost one that

(38:18):
talks about a long day for those guys. I mean
they're gonna practice. This is Florida time now ten am
to ten fifty five and then they don't race until
eight are up, qualify till eight fifteen till ten pm.
Remember Dan, last year we were talking with Jesse. He
was talking about how a long day it was, and
they just made it longer for him.

Speaker 10 (38:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Beautiful. By the way, Dan, you are going to Daytona
correct one Wednesday.

Speaker 6 (38:41):
I leave Wednesday and I'll be there in town Wednesday
afternoon and get what I can get to and have
a lot of fun looking forward to the five hundred
and Brian, don't don't talk too much about that weather.
I want you to drink sick because I went through
a little bit last year.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Yeah, I know right.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
You looked really good right now to me, Dan that
you should have perhaps gone twenty four hours earlier so
you could have caught a new Sumyrna.

Speaker 6 (39:04):
Yeah, I mean that was trying to do that.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
I wanted to move.

Speaker 5 (39:07):
It just works.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
Scheduled everything else, you know, anything else you got to
plan around to get down there, didn't didn't work out
this year.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
Work gets in the way of everything.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
Everything. And speaking of work, Pja, your husband's going to
have a busy week down there, isn't.

Speaker 7 (39:21):
He He is.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
He's down there. He's not staying for the whole week though.
He's just really focusing on that Tuesday night ASA Stars
race with Timajeski.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
And he's on his way now.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
He's already there.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Yeah, oh my, we're getting situated at the track. Would
we have to fight for a pit spot or something?
Why are we there so early?

Speaker 5 (39:40):
No, Toby's just like a dog with a bone and
waiting for the ups driver to show up, you know,
I mean he's just ready to humble egg or something.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
Practice tomorrow. To his defense, all the ASA practices tomorrow
and all that he was qualifying race on Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
On Friday.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
Wo oh you so on the forecast, I would get
the heck out of here too.

Speaker 5 (40:03):
Well, that was that was his theory, get out before
the snow hit.

A wide open week of speed Weeks racing this week
across the state of Florida will start Tuesday in O'calla, Florida.
Lucas Oil a late medal Dirt series always was at
East Bay this past week, but with East Bay closing down,
they moved it up to O'calla. A lot of people
didn't know what kind of event we'd have. Turned out
to be a really good five days of racing there
seven thousand dollars a win Tuesday night. Devin Moran grabbed

(42:57):
at the opener. Wednesday night up at Lake City, Florida.
The off Tech raced away for the Short Trek Super
Series Big Block Modified. Stuart Freezing of Truck Series Fame
picked up the win there. Back to o'calla night number
two for the Lucasayla Late Maldert Series another seven thousand
dollars on the line. Jonathan Davenport took home to win
there Barberville, Florida, the Lucia's Speedway Park for the World
of out Law and Noss Engineering Sprint Car Series. They

(43:18):
opened up Wednesday night. It was not a points night
for them. They always had a practice night. Instead of
a practice night. They just had a race for just
cash and say you can take home a gator and
Carson Messito did just that, grabbing the win. Kyle Larson
also ran He finished third. Thursday night, Lake City, Florida,
another night of the Short Trek Super Series Big Block Modified.
Stuart Freeson made it two for two, grabbing that win.

(43:39):
Thursday night at o'cala for the LUCASAI Late Modelert Series
and ten thousand dollars on the line. Jonathan Davenport made
it two in a row, picking up the win there.
Thursday night at Barberville, Florida, the Lucia's Speedway Park the
World of out Lost Sprint Cars points paying night for them.
Christopher Bell grabbed the win over Kyle Larson by less
than a carlink. That was a spectacular feature finish. If
you saw that one really Thursday night, Friday night down

(44:01):
in Clewiston, Florida, the Henry County Speedway the King of
the Three Sixties for the three sixties Sprint Cars and
they're opening night. Tyler Klem that is Bubba the love
sponges Son grabbed the win in that one. He's the
guy who wounds o'calla Speedway. Ironically enough, Lake City, Florida
park or something, didn't it Yeah, well yeah, it used
to be called Bubba Raceway. PARKA made it back to

(44:23):
o'calla now Lake City, Florida. Friday night at the al
Tech Raceway for the Short Treks series. Big Block modified
somebody other than Stewart Freeze and finally grabbed a win.
That would be Matt Shepherd. O'calla, Florida. Another night of
Lucas Sol Light's Model Dirt Series competition. Ricky Thornton Junior,
not to be outdone by Jonathan Davenport, picked up the
twelve thousand dollars prize on Friday Night. Back to Ilusha
for Friday Night, another night of World awel A Sprint Cars,

(44:44):
Kyle Larson made it. Kyle Larson picked up the win
over Christopher Bell that night, getting back at him. Bill
Bailock also had really good runs those two nights, finishing
in the top ten, and I believe Friday night he
finished six, but there were only two World awow A
regulars in front of so a really good points to
night for Bill bay Log in his second season on
the Outlaw Tour. Finally, Saturday Night up in Sylvania, Georgia

(45:07):
at Screven Motorsports Park, Winter Freeze ten thousand dollars win
for the Super Late Models, Cody Overton was your winner.
Cluist in Florida Henry County Speedway the King of the
three sixties ten thousand dollars to win. Mark Smith grabbed
the win. Scottie theal Park took in that event and
finished the eleventh file light of the short Track Super
Series in all Tech Raceway, Lake City, Florida. Stewart Freezing
made it three out of four, grabbing the win there.

(45:27):
The Big Blocks move on to Vlusha starting Wednesday night,
the final night of the LUCASOA Late Model Dirt Series Ocala, Florida,
twenty five thousand dollars to win, and Devin Moran passed
Jonathan Davenport with about eleven laps to go go in
a pretty thrilling race there at the end of that one. Overall,
I say Okala did a really good job taking the
place of East Bay this week. Good crowds for the

(45:47):
most part and pretty good racing there. And finally the
big event in Barberville, Florida, Lucia Speedway Park for the
World of Allos Engineering Sprint Care Series twenty thousand dollars
to win. Kyle Larson picked up the win and the
Gator champion and Chip of the sprint cars for the week. Also,
the undercard last night was for the ump modified They
had one hundred and six modifieds there this week, sheeting

(46:08):
in multiple features. They ran like six features a night.
That's why I didn't name them all because they had
different ways of lining them up. But the big all
came down to the big Gator Championship last night for
five thousand dollars a win in Kurt Spaulding grabbed the
win in that one last night, and that is everything
this week. Probably the busiest week of short track racing
was this week. Next week for the most part, Vlusha
is really the only dirt track running. Volusha and Ocallo

(46:30):
Kala has the USAX sprint cars and then Vlusha has
the Late Models and the Big Buck modifies this week
to wrap up speed Week's twenty twenty five and this.

Speaker 5 (46:37):
Is also pretty big for the Asphalt Series as well.
World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway kicked off
on Friday night, had a double DQ to get things
started and the Super Late Models William so Walitch crossed
the line first, but he was deqed for his car
being a quarter inch too wide. Just fyi. That was

(46:58):
actually discovered in pre tech, but apparently they didn't fix
it so they were dqed. That handed the win then
to Carson Brown's car too, isn't it It is? And
it's also sponsored by the Racley war Team, which is
also so it was a very hard dq for the
ASA sanctioning body to make, but at the end of

(47:19):
the day they did the right thing. They told them
you're too wide and they didn't fix it, so at
any rate, that hands the win over to second place,
which was Carson Brown from Anthony Campy Racing. Cole Butcher
was now then second for Donny Wilson Racing. Derreck Griffith
was third, George Phillips fourth in another Donny Wilson Racing
and Connor Jones fifth. Midwest notables Paul Shaeffer Junior was eleventh,

(47:43):
ty Frederickson seventeenth, Bobby Kendall nineteenth, and Derek Crouse twenty fourth.
Prolate models also ran Friday Night to kick it off,
and Connor Jones crossed the line first, but he was
dqed for an unapproved carburetor. It was used another series
but not approved for ASA to for their super Lights
Superor Prolates. According to Matt Weaver, it was safety wired

(48:06):
with epoxy to prevent pucks from falling in and hanging
the motor wide open, so it was a safety thing. However,
it was an unapproved carburetor, so that handed the win
over to Hunter Wright. Notable for you, Brian, your gal Jade.
I can't even pronounce Aldijia.

Speaker 4 (48:24):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (48:25):
She finished twelfth. She's with Donnie Wilson Racing for some
limited Prolate races this year. Randy Sargent was fourteenth and
then last night the World Series of Asphalts. The NASCAR
Wheeling Modified Tour winner was Patrick Emmerline, driving for Bobby Daughter,
Craig Lutz, Justin bon Signor and Luke Baldwin. Tommy's kid,
as well as Austin Beers rounded out the top five.

(48:48):

five laps and the Florida Modified will be the main
event with fifty laps. Super Lates will have Monday off,
but there will be that big two hundred lap ASA
Stars Tour race on Tuesday night. Lots of Midwestern flavor
entered into that one, including the latest for the Platinum

(49:52):
Series program, Derrek Krause and Johnny Sowder have entered, so
that's pretty cool. Prolates are to have their biggest race
of the series Wednesday night with one hundred lap feature.
Super Lates will have another one hundred lapper on Thursday night,
and then the Tour Modified will have their one hundred
lap feature on Friday.

Speaker 3 (50:12):
Do you know I was thinking about this. Johnny Sowder
ran in the old ASA series. He won a bunch
of races with that. He'll be the only driver that
has raced with both ASA series now that he's going
to be a regular driving Richie waters car who was
originally from Green Bay, also so to a Wisconsin team.

(50:33):
But that's pretty cool. And Derek Krause going to be
a regular in that series, which we're not surprised at all.
I mean, seems like that'd be a good place for him.
He needs to get a couple of wins. That'd be
a good place to do it. We're going to be
back hanging there. Miller Sales and Service at Random Lake

Speaker 3 (53:17):
Oh we got a cool things to tie up here.
The Cup practice that Brian talked about on Wednesday, that
starts way too early. Yes, it will be televised on
FS one starting at nine o'clock in the morning Central Time.
For those of you who want to expose you recorded
and watch it when you get home from work or something.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Who would watch.

Speaker 3 (53:38):
Practice practice, We're talking about practice. It's kind of a
big deal though.

Speaker 6 (53:45):
And we haven't been on track and how many months.
That's why you watch practices, Carl.

Speaker 4 (53:49):
Yes, they don't get much practice anymore in nask Car.
If you think about it, it's amazing. Hey, Brian, I
wanted to mention also, they are now accepting applications for
the Alan Kowiki Driver Development Program for this year.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
It looks as.

Speaker 3 (54:05):
Though from what I have seen that it's changed quite
a bit from what it started at. You might want
to check that, but either way your application. They're now
accepting applications Wisconsin racers who believe that they have a
shot at that thing, which should get their applications and
because we are usually very well represented in the in

(54:27):
cheese land here, so make sure you do that. Hey, Brian,
give us a Billy Bailog update, would you.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
Yeah, if you were watching the race last night, you
saw you had a spectacular performance in his heat race,
coming from third to win. The heat race started third
in the feature and on I think it was the
second lap, got up in the cushion and turned four
and had a nasty looking roll. Wicked flipped pretty good
and for the longest time that the people doing it
didn't show what was happening. And finally, after I think
it seemed like forever five minutes, they said he was

(54:54):
conscious and alert and was transported to the hospital in
the am. And unfortunately the update we have this morning
here this is about an hour ago. Bill is on
his way home. No broken bones, thank goodness, just some
soft tissue damage. Luckily they have a few weeks off
before the next race, which is back at Vlusha the
first week of March. So thanks to everyone for the
positive message. Probably it came from his racing page. So

(55:16):
scary stuff sprint cars when you're going that fast and
a half mile, it's nasty looking stuff. So fortunately Bill's
gonna be all right, but he's gonna need some time
to heal up.

Speaker 5 (55:25):
Testament to the safety equipment for sure.

Speaker 4 (55:27):
Yes, yeah, you saw the replay of it. It just
just up on the cushion and the car just snapped
sideways and just started tumbling.

Speaker 5 (55:34):
It.

Speaker 4 (55:34):
You never know what those cars. It's crazy. But he
was having a heck of a week before that, and
hopefully he comes back in the same form he was before,
because he looked like he could be pretty sporty this
year and maybe pick off a couple of all all wins.
Wouldn't that be cool.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
A couple of things to wrap up here. The Exfinity
announce that they are no longer going to sponsor the
Exfinity Series, so NASCAR is going to have to find
a new sponsor for their second series. They will stick
around and be one of the series sponsors for the
Cup series. They're one of four and they have announcer

(56:09):
are going to stay there.

Speaker 4 (56:10):
Also.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
They are going to sponsor the Exfinity Fastest Lap. I
don't know how you sponsor that because there's no cash involved.
It's one point that will be given to the driver
who turns the fastest lap in any race. It's across
all three top tier series and NASCAR, so that's kind

(56:30):
of differ.

Speaker 6 (56:31):
Down to the Martinsville race and it's gonna be who's
going to go to the final deal. Can I put
tires on and does rip off a a and get
a point?

Speaker 4 (56:40):
Yes, Yes, it.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
Seems like that would be something that was now part
of the strategy of a race. So interesting.

Speaker 4 (56:48):
They've been doing that a Formula one for years. You've
seen that a guy having a bad day in Formula
One and all of a sudden he'll go in late,
put on some tires and rip off the fastest lap
and finish like twelve. But he gets that point.

Speaker 5 (57:00):
They don't have to have money with it to make
a sponsorship valuable. It's just for name mentions and that's
that's good enough for.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
Them and that's what they're part of what they're getting
for the money they spend with NASCAR overall. Yeah, that
makes sense.

Speaker 6 (57:13):
Like half waved, half way winner always got money back in.

Speaker 4 (57:16):
The home back in the day. This is a money
lap down, Okay, alret some was a dale.

Speaker 6 (57:22):
Jared threw a Brickyard four hundred away chasing that money,
and I think he was trying to get that lap
up as well.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
Well, we have to be smart and think the big picture.
Snoko is done after this year with their NASCAR sponsorship.
What it involves is they bring all the fuel to
NASCAR and provide it free of charge to the teams,
plus pay NASCAR to do it. They've been doing that

(57:49):
for twenty years. They are only the second oil company
to have done that deal after Union seventy six did
it up until twenty years ago. But they are now
going to talk with other petroleum companies about taking over
the official fuel of NASCAR. And whiskey wars.

Speaker 4 (58:10):
How great is this.

Speaker 3 (58:12):
We've got Traveler Whiskey with Algier, We've got Green River
Whiskey with jj Yally, those two will be competing at
Daytona against each other and then in several other races.
Rebel Bourbon is going to be a sponsor on Kyle
Busch's car, so you know we'll have to watch big fun.

Speaker 5 (58:32):
Sugar Lends Distillery is also getting involved as a sponsor
of NASCAR. Overall.

Speaker 3 (58:37):
Oh, isn't that just perfect? We're gonna take that money
and get you hey, thanks for tuning in. We do
appreciate it. And you know, there's there's the little words
of wisdom. We like everybody to remember.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
