Speaker 1 (00:08):
The lt at Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk NASCAR with your host Todd Bailing, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newdleman, head producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one, four, four two one
seventy nine oh one. And now the creator and host
of the Fastest Hour and Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Todd Berling, and it's Championship weekend out here in the
Valley of the Sun. Glad you could join us. I
am not the only one that's in Arizona today. Two
of my three partners are actually here in Arizona with
me facing each other at the kitchen table. How you doing, guys,
(00:55):
It's Brian Schmidt and Dan Margetta are are about miles
from me.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
How you doing, man, morning, Yes, for the beautiful Valley
of the Sun. What a beautiful morning it is. What
a beautiful weather we've had here this weekend. I mean
this is almost Chamber of Commerce type of weather you
would ask for in the Valley of the Sun. For
their final championship, although not final permanently, Steve Phelps says
they'll definitely be back for the championship race here again,
but for the time being, this is the last championship
(01:22):
race here this weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yeah, it's been a really great week. I mean there's
nothing that there's plenty of sunshine and it's definitely in
Arizona here and the tummy is warmer than normal this
timmy year. But it true feels good. And like you said,
this could be the last championship race here for a
little bit at Phoenix because they would go to Miami
next year. Then they'll make it into a rotating and
I think Phoenix will be part of the rot rotation
for that. But we got a pretty good setup this year.
(01:46):
I think the four guys that are going for it
are probably four of your best guys of all year.
There's gonna be no questions which one of them wins that.
I think each one of them is pretty deserving.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
And of course PJ. Neudleman back there on the left
coast of Wisconson holding down the fort back in Cheese,
good morning.
Speaker 6 (02:03):
Good morning. Yeah, it's going to be about fifty degrees
here today and we have some sunshine, so it's not
as light, lovely and delightful as Phoenix, but still it'll
be enjoyable to watch the race. I agree with Dan,
it's pretty much anybody's game last week.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
It was an absolute ass kicking by William Byron to
get himself in. He led the number exact number of laps,
I'm not sure, but he kicked their ass, okay, let's
put it that way, and won all the segments, won
the race. Actually had to put a move, a physical
(02:41):
move onto Ryan Blaney to get buy it. He moved him.
Blaney I thought would have been pissed off, but he
really wasn't. He took it well. He said I would
have done the same thing, and it was very classy
about the whole thing. He knew that he didn't have
a car that was anywhere near as good as Byron's
last week, and Willie b got by him and won it.
(03:03):
And so we have two car owners of the four right,
we got the two Hendrick cars, the twenty four and
five cars, and two of the Coach Gibbs cars, Hamlin
the eleven and Briscoe in the nineteen. They qualified first, second, third,
(03:24):
and twelve. Briscoe is back a little bit, but boy,
it's been some really really outstanding racing here. Well, with
the exception of the Arca race. You guys were there
for that Arca race. I thought it was stinky. I
thought it was a stinky show all the way around.
Were you at any moment were you enthralled sitting on
(03:46):
the edge of your seat on that thing?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
No, not really. I mean it's kind of what arc
has been this year. The Gibbs car, which a good
friend of ours, Matt Millard, drives the truck Ford is
actually probably on his way home right now for his
last ride before he retires from working in NASCAR land.
You know, they've just been that good this year, no
matter who you put in at. I mean I saw
it at Madison with Max Reeves driving that car, you know,
Brett Cruz yesterday. It's just that's how good that team
(04:10):
is compared to the rest of the Arka field. I mean,
you kind of I don't know what the TV shows you,
but when you're at one of those Archer races, you
got to look behind there and watch a lot of
the squirrels in action because that's where you kind of
get your entertainment from. And there's plenty of squirrels in
action in that race. In the behind the leaders.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
First couple of laps, two different females smacked the wall.
Oh what a coincidence, and that they're both female. I
don't know. I don't know if that was a coincidence. Plus,
Corey Heim won the championship and the race on Friday
night after NASCAR kind of looked the other way, had
a little double standard. If you don't think so, you
(04:48):
should probably watch one of those last restarts when they
allowed him to go under the yellow stripe before the
start finish line and they penalized was it the palist
for the same exact move. But the difference is they
wanted him to make sure he had a shot at
(05:10):
this thing, because otherwise they'd have the egg on their face.
You can't put him in the back after winning eleven
races and you know, here's your winning his driver. Don't
you want him to be your champion? Well it turned
out that way. Uh, Timajeski did what he had to do. Uh.
They they took two tires. He was not as good
as Corey Heim when he had four tires. Heim beat
(05:34):
him on every restart. But say, but just for the
fact that Ty had a track position made a hell
of a difference. I mean I got pretty excited there
with in fact, we all did, thinking that Ty was
going to have a shot at this thing right at
the end of the race. But between him's fantastic move,
NASCAR's turning the other way, and the fact that him
(05:56):
just had a better all around.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
And I wouldn't say it was quite as blatant. I mean,
it was close. Tie spot her multiple times said, you know,
he kind of hugged the line. He never really went
right below it till after the start finish line. So
it's not like a blatant turn the other way by NASCAR.
You know, I don't. I don't want people to get
the idea that they just let him win this thing.
That what the move him made in one and two
(06:18):
was spectacular to go seven wide and to get that
car to rotate basically on the inside wall all the
way around there to get even with Tie coming there.
So you know, Kate and honeycuts thing. You could clearly
see it on the replay. He was below the line
as they got the line him was really close. I mean,
it would have been a razor edge call if you
were to make the call.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
And the rule is that he didn't go below the
line before the start finishing it can't make your move,
start your move before the start finished line. That's what
it was.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
And it was.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
It was close, and he kind of laid back at
the start too.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I get all that.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
It's if you were technical about it. Yeah, you could
call it because he called it on a fifty two earlier.
But I'm kind of glad they didn't because it gets
that Tiki tak on something like that that just made it. Yes,
I was more mad at the fifty or the eighty
one truck for riding around or a flat tire for
ten years until it finally blew and was bringing a
cross out and setting this whole mess up exactly.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
You gotta give him the benefit of the doubt, I
mean in that in that situation, and he certainly was
a deserving champion for sure.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
And Lane Riggs was a big loser in that because
Lane Riggs was gonna win that race. I mean, they
made the call with I want to say forty ish
or thirty five laps to go to pit and take
four tires, and right after they decided to go win,
Ty Spoder goes ah. We would have been set up.
If we would have done that, that would have put four
tires on Tie's truck with time with not fresh tires
(07:36):
at all. Maybe that would have made a difference. Now
in the grand scheme of things, it wouldn't have because
we went through the whole rigamarole with the eighty one
truck causing a problem to help his teammate Tyler Ankram.
But you know at the point that really Joe Shiro was,
you know, probably kicking himself for not doing that, which
in the end, glad, glad it worked out the way
it did in a sense because you won't have that
thought process in your head anymore.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Right, and they're going to redo the supposedly they're going
to redo the formula. Anyway, in the Exfinity Series, it
didn't go like NASCAR really would have liked. Connor Zillish
had a dominant season and ended up third place in
the race to Jesse Love, who had a spectacular race
(08:17):
yesterday when you really needed it, he came through and
did a great job. Just one former Slinger Speedway feature
winner Jesse Love one and that was pretty cool to see.
By the way, we never really mentioned Sam Mayer last week.
Are supposedly a Franklin driver who never raced anywhere really
(08:39):
in the state of Wisconsin. He kind of kind of
skipped the local racing and just kind of went from
rented ride to rented ride on a higher level. That
Franklin driver got suspended the week before because he had
a temper tantrum. And I think he learned a very
valuable lesson there are though, you can't take a guy
(09:07):
out after the race is over and expect there not
to be some sort of penalty. It just doesn't work
like that, does it.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
Do you think he learned his lesson?
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Oh that part, No, probably not all that.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
You know. Listen, this is why we race in these
in these lower series. We get all this experience out
of the way. The first time Sam Mayor raced at
the here at Phoenix, I believe he had six different
speeding penalties on Pitt Road. And that wasn't that long ago.
(09:39):
It was about three years ago, Dan something like that.
But he learns it's a learning experience. You want to
get all that water under the bridge before you move
to the next level. Is he ready to move to
the next level. I think he pretty much waved a
big flag and said, no, I'm not. I still have
some valuable lessons to learn. And Jeff Burton wasn't even
(10:02):
worth you mentioning rather than even swearing about them, and
taking them out after the race. Okay, So you'll be
okay in the long run. He does have a lot
of talent, that's for sure. If you would like to
call us and be a part of this program, you
can do so at our telephone.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Welcome. Those breaks go fast, and we don't have all
the w ok ycraft to play in there, all right,
So this week came. Uh, the closer we get to
the trial, the more we're learning. They're opening things up
and we're and the fans are learning things that we
(12:37):
never would have been privy to in the past. Now
this week, what are some of the things we learned, Well,
we do it. We did hear that NASCAR wants to
settle this out of court, but nothing is really imminent.
And this week Steve O'Donnell spoke about the state of
the sport. You two were at the No, you weren't
(13:01):
at the press conference, but you heard what was going
on in there, right.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Yeah, we listened to it. We were actually the parking
lot of the track, so that's where we learned it from.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
Yeah, and it was it was it pretty much what
you expected. There was no you know, uh, breaking new,
huge breaking news there. The only thing that they addressed
the lawsuit. They read a statement and that was it.
They werenay were gonna take questions, but otherwise that whole
press conference probably would have been dominated by just lawsuit questions,
you know. Pretty much, they said that they don't think
they're an antitrust organization and they don't agree with it,
(13:32):
and it opened to a settlement. But if not. I
guess we'll see in court kind of thing. It really
wasn't any groundbreaking that way. What really came out this
year or this week though, was that the charter agreement
has made public because they're all court documents. I mean,
if you want to go get them, you can go
to pacers as the website, you can pay the download
fees and you're welcome to download the hundreds of pages
(13:53):
that are part of this case. It's all there, and
that's what people were doing. So they're coming out to
see these and like the charter agreement what to get.
It came out that what each charter is worth one
hundred and forty one thousand dollars approximately per event, or
about maybe eleven point nine to twelve million dollars a year.
Some obviously that's the average. Some that they make more,
some make less.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Not a terrible number remembered, they say to twenty million
dollar a year to operate. So that's taking a pretty
good chunk out of that, right.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
And that that's if everybody got the same amount, which
they don't. They don't all get twelve million dollars. I
think that's the average. Some I think get more depending
on how well they do, your better teams get more,
your worse teams get less. So that that came out
and and you know, MASCAR, some of financials came out
and said that they make what one hundred million dollars
this year. Last year they made four five hundred million dollars,
(14:45):
but that was included four hundred million dollars from the
sale of Auto Club Speedway.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
You know.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
They so they make one hundred million dollars in revenue,
but their profit margins only like six percent, which is
not much. I mean, that's really not operating at a
very big offit margins.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
So it's not operating smart with your money.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Right, And that's I think that's some of the teams
maybe are saying. It's saying, yeah, you're putting a lot
of stuff back into it, but what are you putting
it into. You know, we're we're racing in Mexico. We're
going we're building a Yeah, building the coliseum.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Wasn't the cheap ticket to make that into a racetrack
and then Eric down again.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Yeah, you lost lots of money in the street course
at Chicago the first time around. Through there, that kind
of thing. I think there are may be some people
that are saying we can go to Rockingham and you
can maybe give the teams more money kind of thing too.
You know, that's that's probably how they're viewing it as
it's just a lot of the stuff came out now,
which is kind of it's all public record now, and
there's gonna be a lot more if this goes to trial.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Oh yeah, this is this is great. The closer we get,
the more we're going to learn, and the more it
screams for an out of court settlement. But uh, you know,
in NASCAR's defense, going to some of these different places,
it's nice that they want to expand their horizons. They
don't have to go to the same old Southeast US
(15:59):
tracks all the time. It was nice that they expanded
and did some other things. I thought, that doesn't mean
you have to make them a permanent part of the
schedule either, And I don't think that was really ever intended. Like,
for instance, it appears that Mexico City was a one
off deal. We all this is pretty good here. We
(16:23):
all thought that the Chicago Street circuit was a three
years and done thing and that they're going to somehow
come back to Rade America. And especially since next year's
schedule has the Chicago Oval on it. Joliet is back
on the thing on the schedule. But we have learned
(16:45):
this week that the Street Circuit in downtown Chicago is
not dead and that they're probably going to be back
as soon as twenty twenty seven. Yep. The question, Brian
I would have are they going to raise both the
street circuit and the Oval?
Speaker 4 (17:02):
But yeah, that's a real good question. I mean, you know,
we're hearing from people down here that, you know, people
that are working for the Chicago Street Circuit didn't get
transferred Oval to work for the Oval. They're hiring different
people to manage the Oval. They're spending I think it's
over two million dollars to get the Oval ready to
race again, only to be told that the city of
(17:25):
Chicago wants them back in twenty twenty seven, but they
don't want the fourth of July weekend in downtown Chicago
in the worst way. Now, my mind would say, if
you're gonna spend that kind of money on the Oval,
you're gonna keep racing there, right, I mean, you're not
going to just run there once and then leave, you know.
But I don't know, is can Chicago have two races.
I mean, you think that the city that market, I mean,
(17:47):
it's a big market, but they have a hard time
filling both of them. And you know one, yeah, tickets
aren't flying off the shelves right now for the Oval
if you take a look at it now, Yeah, we
have a long way to go yet, but you know,
you think there'd be a lot of hype for it.
They would because if the place isn't that I think
there's about maybe fifty thousand seats there or something like that. So,
I don't know, this is very interesting, and this all
ties in with what everybody's saying NASCAR and their spending ways.
(18:09):
You know, I don't know this one. That was a
puzzling one. When I heard that that it sounds like
they're gonna go back at twenty twenty seven, my jaw dropped.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Really And this is a really really good source. Okay,
don't don't think that we're just making this shit up.
Where we actually found this out this week that they're
the plan is to come back maybe as early as
twenty twenty seven. It doesn't that remind you, guys, just
a little bit of Nashville. You know, there's that Lebanon
(18:40):
Tennessee is what a half an hour east of Nashville,
and that we're talking or they were talking suddenly we
haven't heard very much about that Nashville project.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
No, not at all about.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
The State Fairground.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
What happened there, Yeah, I don't know. And then there
was there was talk I had heard as of just
a couple of weeks ago that maybe the Nashville Fairgrounds
would go away. Now we've had some short track schedules
come out out here in the last week. Cars Tour
and the ASA Stars Tour plan on being back there
again next year. So as far as it completely closing
is gone. But I've heard nothing about renovating the place
and their apartments built like right up to within, you know,
(19:13):
several hundred feet of the racetrack. So I don't know
what the plan is for that. But I think as
far as NASCAR racing there, I think that's probably off
off the shelf right now.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
You know, when you buy a place, a newer place,
like Brian mentioned, there's condos, they probably are built more
recent than the rest of the neighborhood there in Nashville,
because it is it's a little bit like the Wisconsin
State Fairgrounds it's close to houses, and when you buy
a house that's next to a racetrack, there are disclaimers
(19:46):
you have to sign. I know this because my place
here in Arizona is right by the Glendale Airstrip and
I had to sign off on it. You know you're
gonna have airplanes coming and going, Okay, no problem. I
like airplanes. I like race cars too, but not everybody does.
You know. So if you think that that's gonna meet
(20:07):
make this Nashville project goal away, I don't think it is.
I think they're gonna go ahead with it, but we
haven't heard anything either. So there are problems and lots
of other things going on, which we'll cover here in
a couple of minutes. The lawyers aren't done yet. There's
more lawyers involved. Why are there more lawyers suddenly than
race cars? I don't get it. We'll talk about that
(20:29):
and some other things when we come back them.
Speaker 10 (20:31):

Speaker 3 (22:35):
Just like that, we're back. Then. There's a lot more
with this financial stuff as it relates to the teams.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Yeah, some of their financials kind of got released too.
There was a document that showed twelve teams and didn't
say which one was which, and it showed kind of
what they took in, what they spent, and how much
money they made or lost. And there were some teams
that had made some money early on, like around I
think twenty twenty at far as I went back and
were lose and money now, which a lot of people
could say that could be the car. They car had
a lot of extra costs in it. There was one
(23:04):
team in particular, it was Team three on it. They
dould know who it was. But they went from make
and bringing in twenty million dollars back in twenty twenty
and they're down to under ten million dow and they're
still spending as much. And they said they lost like
ten million dollars last year, which I'm not sure which
team that is. I don't know. They didn't identify any
of the teams. And then that case you don't know
either too because some of these teams have four cars.
(23:25):
So do they do they have the same losses every
year or do they you know, d loook of it
as a whole. Do you kind of move losses around
each year per car? I'm not sure how they how
they account for all that, you know to know exactly
how that was there, but that's out there as well
as that. There was some team financial stuff too, and
that more stuff that will all come out and a
lot suits as the trial goes on great.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, and we I tell you, I'm looking forward to
seeing as the is the dirty laundry is going to
get put on full display here before we get a settlement.
Let's see how much we can find out before they
actually settle and everything goes back behind closed doors. How
many of you remember when the great Koreem Abdul Jabbar
(24:08):
was playing basketball for the Bucks and then of course
he went got traded to the Lakers, and then you know,
he made all his millions and millions of dollars, and
later in life we found out that he didn't have
any money. Well, now, how could that be? You got
a superstar, you got all that money he made. Where
(24:28):
did the money go? I've heard this for other athletes too.
The same thing happened is happening or happened to Kyle Busch.
Kyle and Samantha are suing Pacific Life. They're the ones
that have the whale that jumps out of the water
and goes brah, you know, financial security. They're suing Pacific
(24:50):
Life for eight and a half million dollars. That supposed
least some guy said he was a I'll take care
of your money for you. Yeah, what happened. Well, they
lost the money and they're being sued right now. Yeah,
this this particular guy they're suing was an employee of
Pacific Life. So therefore we go after the life line
(25:14):
there and go right after Pacific Life. Terrible. Sorry to
hear that. Kyle's still making some money, which you know,
I'm I'm pretty relatively sure he doesn't have to worry
about where the next meal's coming from. But eight and
a half million is nothing to sneeze that, folks. And
let's be honest, it's pretty crappy all the way around.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
And I'm sure when you get that kind of you know,
you get that kind of success and you actually make
that kind of money, and there's plenty of people around
waiting to spend it for you order to do stuff
with it, so you got kind of be careful I
think what you invest in.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
Right. What was that asshole's name that worked for out
in New York. The name is like the pon scheme guy,
the Ponzi dude? What was his name? Died in jail?
Speaker 5 (25:54):
Yeah, Bernie made Off?
Speaker 3 (25:57):
That was it. Yeah, there's a Bernie made Off out
there waiting for all of us. We just have to
avoid finding him because they will love to get their
hands on anybody's money. Oh yeah, I'll take care of you. Yeah,
I bet you will. Speaking of Kyle Busch, remember the
Kyle Busch rules. We're tired of one guy stinking up
(26:18):
the show in the Exfinity Series and the Truck Series.
And Kyle Busch comes here and all he does is
win our races, and it really screws up our points
and really takes the emphasis away from our young stars
what we want it to be. And while we're doing
is talking about a guy who's a cup driver coming
in and stealing the money every week. So we're going
(26:39):
to make a rule that cup drivers, if you got
three years of experience, you can only race five races.
So Kyle Busch races five races a year and has
ever since. And the Truck series, let's see, what was it,
three races is all you can do in the truck Well,
(27:00):
Boddy has thought enough that this might not be such
a big issue anyway. For one, I don't I am
not the one to say that Kyle is getting older
and irrelevant, But why in the hell did they suddenly
change this to ten races instead of five? Dan has
the perfect theory, I.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
Would saying a lot and before a lot of guys
ran that because that's where the sponsors were. They wanted
Cup guys in their cars, and that's where a lot
of these Accinity teams got their deals from. The sponsor
would come and sponsor the Cup guy for ten races
and they had to put some ins arrested. It was
on the car all season. So that's kind of where
that the one time we had fourteen guys I think
in the Infinity race and it's they got tired of
(27:43):
people winning it. But if you think about it, if
you have Cup guys racing more races and more of
them do it, they're probably not going to have a
regular win ten races a year, are we anymore? Or
eleven races in the truck series, and we're not going
to be stuck in a situation where we have a
guy who winning all these races that could lose the
championship m H. A.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Zillish for instance. Yeah. Interesting. They also change the age requirements.
You have to be sixteen to run the truck, seventeen
to run the O'Reilly Series, and eighteen to run in
the Cup Series. And what was it mile and a
quarter and below and road courses you have to be seventeen.
(28:24):
Did I see that one right? Then? I think that's
what it was. And you can't run a big track
that means Darlington and above unless you're eighteen. So that's
all right, that's nothing wrong with that, we feel, you know,
that makes sense. The folks from colleague who are going
(28:47):
to transition, they're going to be the ones that are
going to bring Dodge back. They are going to have
a five truck team next year. Two Cup cars will
remain as long as you know, NASCAR is still racing
in the Cup Series next year that the lawsuit gets
settled somehow. Those five truck teams, they've started announcing the drivers.
(29:12):
Daniel die and he's been around a little bit. Justin
Haley is probably the biggest name of everybody that they
have because Haley does have a Cup win and has
a lot of Cup experience, and he's going to take
a step down to the to the truck series. Not
the worst thing in the world for him. He'll probably
lead the charge for Dodge as they keep moving up.
(29:34):
Butterbean Queen is going to be one of their drivers,
and good for them. They got the kid to sign
a deal to stay with them. That's good. Who are
the other two drivers that are going to be in
the colleague truck teams for Dodge.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, it's not been announced, but I mean, you know,
rumor has it it could possibly be Tory Bridinger could
be one of it because she brings all that influence
her money in. And the other rumor that really kind
of seems bizarre is there's a reality show going on
out there that they may bring the winner of a
reality show in to drive the fifth truck, I mean,
(30:12):
off the wall stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Well, that's just there's one thing about bringing attention to
your team. But you know, is this some guy or
is this some guy at a local level that came
up and has.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
So much that part? I don't know, and I really
haven't heard much about it. But I mean the Daniel
Die one is interesting because Daniel Die's family is a
huge Dodge dealership owner in Florida. So that's where the
Daniel Die connection comes in, you know, because they're going
Dodge racing there, So you know, that's that's a that's
a big one for him, you know, butterbeans a good one, Haley. Obviously,
(30:46):
he needed to find a home, but the other two
I don't. I don't get it.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Man, you need for the money and for the show.
And uh Tony Bridinger must bring some cash whether I'm
guessing we'll be back. Sales and service, Random Lake is

Matt Crafton, who has won three truck championships in his career,
has been around for a while. He's forty nine years old.
I think it was just a coincidence that they told
him he was going to retire the day after he
took time A Jeski out and erased the earlier this year. Oh,
this was planned the whole time. It's your timing was
(33:04):
kind of odd, it seemed like to me. Matt Crafton's
last full time race was Friday Night with the Truck series.
That number eighty eight Minards sponsored car truck is going
to be time of Jeski's from now on. I believe
it's just going to be the same team and they're
going to put the yellow rap on the ninety eight
(33:24):
truck instead. Happens out of that deal, by the way,
is that Luke Fennhouse ends up getting the ninety eight truck.
But we haven't heard anything about that. Dan, did you
say something I just.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
I said correct about the wrap and the truck, same team.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Yah, yeah, that makes sense. It does make sense. But
Crafton ended his career and then got out and was
asked about everything with this, with the state of his
career and all that, and he was a little embarrassed because,
let's face facts, he's been he's not been very good
over the left last couple of years and was asked,
(34:03):
you know, what about what are you gonna do? Now,
and he said, I'm gonna I'm gonna race my modified.
At least I get to use two feet from for that.
You could put a trained monkey in one of these
trucks at a mile and a half track and teach
them not to lift and just turn left, because that's
what it's come down to, probably get in trouble with Nascar.
(34:25):
I wouldn't worry about that. You're retiring, but but that
was pretty interesting. Uh, I don't know, what did you
guys think? There's a lot of truth to it.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
I mean, you know, and that's been a lot of
the frustration with a lot of the parrots that these
vehicles are so easy to drive, that you know, you
could put these kids in there and they can just
drive it. We saw the Arka race yesterday. Dan, How
many times do we see these cars coming around the
corner and we're like, oh my gosh, the guy's gonna,
you know, gonna lose it, and they're just able to
(34:54):
hang on to him. And he even turned. Dan even
turned to me and said those cars are way too
easy to drive. Trucks are saying same Odor. It's it's
the Illmoor engine in them, you know, And and that that's
the big frustration. And that's where Crafton has the massive
frustration that the drive they took a lot of the
driver out of it. You know, the days of Skinner
and Hornery and those guys driving them trucks. That's gone.
And that's what he came up with, that that that
(35:15):
group of people. So I agree a lot with what
he says. Now, he should have won a little bit
more if it was that easy, but he didn't.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Yeah, yeah, no kidding if you can.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
Yeah, that's I I agree. The same thing is that
the UH on the ARCA race there were a lot
of those cars that were wayside. Was that if that
car had more horsepower or had less stability, these kids
would have would have, you know, busted it and hit
the fence because they were so side. Wasn't able to
drive it back. And like, this is not that I
don't think it's teaching to be really great drivers because
you get in a situation where you have higher horsepower
(35:44):
you can't handle it.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
That's a fact right there. The UH the Cup series
has been UH sponsored the last few years by four
major sponsors, which is why they don't call it Winston
Cup or Sprint. Their next teller in that they have
four sponsors, so they just end up calling it the
Cup Series. Bush, Coca Cola, Exfinity, and geicol Those are
(36:09):
the four sponsors over the last four years. They didn't
make a big deal about it, but they lost Geicel
after this year and a new insurance company is going
to take their place, Freeway Insurance. Now I never heard
of them before, but they're the they're the ones that
are going to sponsor Daniel Suarez and his full time
(36:32):
He's They're the number one sponsor on the on that car.
What number is he going to be? Did we ever
figure that out yet? I don't remember, Well, I don't
even know that they've determined that yet. They also haven't
determined Zilish's number.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
He's going to aspire right to seven card, probably stay
the seven.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Okay, so seven Freeway Insurance, that's right. He did replace
Justin Haley, So yeah, that makes sense. Last week in
the ratings, the Cup Series was on NBC. They had
two point three five million viewers. Formula one What was
that on ESPN? I think yeah, I think so. I
(37:12):
think that one was, yes, not on a network either way.
One point three and that was at Mexico City, was it, Yes,
Mexico City ratings are still killing Formula one for all
the snooty, pinky finger martini kind of folks that are
watching Formula one races. And I say that knowing full
(37:34):
well how popular that sport is in some circles, Like
in my own family, I have a kid that doesn't
follow NASCAR, that follows Formula one. Can tell me all
this stuff I don't care about. That's really nice, that's awesome.
I don't care.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
I think we'll see next year what really happens there
when all those Formula one fans are going to be
forced to buy a subscription to watch the race. It's
going to be on Apple TV.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Yeah, well, how much is that Apple TV? I don't know.
I know that if you have T mobile, this isn't
a commercial. But if you have T mobile, it's fair.
Speaker 6 (38:05):
You get it for free. I get Netflix and Apple
TV for free with my T Mobile.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Pretty aweso.
Speaker 5 (38:11):
I think it's like ten bucks a month.
Speaker 6 (38:12):
Otherwise, Oh, that's it, that's nothing.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
You know what though, we can think of that, PJ.
Since you and I both have T Mobile, Like, just
keep subtracting that from what we're paying every month.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
Right, That ten bucks a month is one hundred and
twenty dollars a year, So you got to do the
math on that. See, and there's I'm not going to
pay that to watch Formula one. I wouldn't do problems
on tight you know.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, but they have baseball on during the summer too,
so keep that in mind. Sometimes if you didn't have
Apple TV, you couldn't watch the Brewers on Friday nights.
And I'm sorry, but I didn't like watching my Brewers.
They're going there's going to be a new YouTube program
coming out. It's one of NASCAR's own productions. You will
(38:57):
find it on YouTube, meaning that's free. I guess right,
anything on YouTube except for the premium channel option is free.
It's called Rising. There's going to be five episodes and
they're going to follow the twenty five season of Carson
ho Savar, Jesse Love, and Rajah Caruth. So there's some
(39:23):
must be must see viewing right there. I don't know
when it starts. I think we saw the cameras there
the other day, didn't we, guys when we went to
the press conference.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
Rod, I'm pretty sure media day for Jesse Love, there
was a guy with a real big camera falling around
behind him, and I was kind of wondering because he
was different than the other guys as you could go
around there, and I'm guessing that must have been for
that show.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Yeah, probably because we've found out about it right afterwards.
We're glad you're tuned in. We're gonna come back with
some results. Hang in there, will be back.

LTN Hour Presidents turn on the Dirt with Brian Schmidt.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
It's getting to that time of the year where the
dirt results are pretty slim. They're supposed to be the
big short Track World Championships in Charlotte this weekend. They
had five hundred cars entered in like I think six
or eight classes, but rain has been hampering that all
weekend and they are going to run the features this afternoon.
There Friday Night Stock in California, the three sixty sprint
car feature. There was the headliner Joel Myers Junior, who
(41:35):
ran a lot of IRA races this past year in
the Wisconsin area, picked up the future win there. Phoenix City, Alabama,
the East Alabama Motor Speedway the National one hundred Night
number one for the Super Late Models five thousand dollars
to win. Brandon Overton was your winner there. Georgetown, Delaware
the Fall Clash eight thousand dollars to win for the
Super Late Models. Greg Saturley picked up the win there.
Moved to Saturday night down in Sumner, Illinois. Still racing
(41:56):
in Illinois the four ten non wing Sprints where the
headliners Jane Rodgers pick up the win. Georgetown, Delaware, Saturday
Night the superdrit Caur Series Big Black Modified Delaware Diamonds
seventy five. Alex Payne picked up the win there. Stockton, California.
The King of the West NARC four ten sprint Cards.
Justin Sanders grabbed the win. Phoenix City, Alabama, Night number
two at the East Alabama Motorspeedo for the National one
(42:19):
hundred and ten thousand dollars to win for the Super
Late Models. Jimmy Owens grabbed the win there. The Big
thirty thousand dollars to win National one hundred is this afternoon.
I'm not sure that one might be on flow. You
have to check check your local listings for that. And finally,
Buds Creek Maryland Potomac Speedway Fall clash for the Eastern
Coast Super Late Models ten thousand dollars to win. Mason
Ziggler grabbed the win there and that is everything for
(42:40):
this week. Next week it is the big World Finals
at Charlotte, so that is going to be the headliner
for everybody to watch.
Speaker 5 (42:47):
That is under vision. Yeah, Bryan highlandits schedule that going
to come on nytime soon, supposedly on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
Talked to Kyle Larson during media day on Thursday and
asked him about racing around here and racing at Plymouth,
and he chuckled and said, if my axle wouldn't have broken,
I think I was going to be in pretty good shape.
And then I said, guy's gonna be running on the
east side of Wisconsin. He thinks, he says, you know,
I don't know for sure because I don't have the
schedule in front of me. He thinks the schedule is
(43:13):
supposed to come out on Tuesday. He's pretty sure they're
gonna run Monominee in Red seedar and he thinks there's
gonna be an East coast, your East side of Wisconsin race,
but he's not sure where it is. So keep your
eyes open for Tuesday schedule release.
Speaker 6 (43:26):
Possibly all right, onto the asphalt side of things. Not
a whole lot going on, but the car's tour did
run out at Phoenix, where you guys are at. You
saw Brent Cruz pick up that win. In the ARCO
West one hundred, Trevor Huddleston was the champion. He finished
tenth and Derek Krause finished fourteenth. In other news, though,
(43:49):
we do have.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
The shitty car by the way, let's face facts.
Speaker 6 (43:54):
Oh I thought it was sponsored by shitty coolers.
Speaker 4 (43:57):
No, okay, I mean that's that's the Shockwave. The guy
who owned Shockwave, Dave Smith. He's out of Canada this year.
They brought two cars. Shockwave is a big supporter of
Derek's Assholes Super a Model program, so basically gave them
a hand and helped them because Dave is an older guy.
He's got to be probably in his seventies, I'm thinking.
(44:18):
So you know, Mark was decked out in the whole
driving suit on the pit road with a helmet out
and everything. He was sweating it out yesterday. So it's
kind of cool to see a small operation at work
this weekend in that In that series.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
He did him a favor by driving his car.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
Basically, yeah, I kind of helped himut a little bit.
I mean, when you're running to ARCA West, it's a
little different than running a National Tour because when the
West runs their own races, you don't have the Venturini
which is now nitral cars usually don't have the Gibbs
cars there, so they can compete a little bit better.
So I think that's what he was helping them for.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
We're sorry to interrupt PG.
Speaker 6 (44:49):
No, It's okay. You guys are out there. I'm not there.
There is a good race coming up though. Next weekend
it is the finale for the Stars National Tour, say
Stars National Tour. That's the All American four hundred that's
going to be at the Nashville Fairground Speedway for the
probably eighth year in a row. It's the rumor that
this will be the last race there. Not sure what's
(45:12):
going to be happened, but yeah, condos do continue to
encroach the track. Who knows what's going to happen. So
it's a good year to go. We got a lot
of Midwesterners making the trek down there. Kraus will be
down there Derrek Krause, Penn Sowters on the entry list,
Austin Nason, Gabe Summers, Levon, Vander Geese, Ty Fredrickson, and
Ty Majeski all on the entry list from the Midwest.
(45:36):
So it's a good conglomerate from the Midwest that will
be down there running. It's next weekend November seventh through
the ninth, and that will be streamed as well on
track TV. If you want to watch it there, you
sure can.
Speaker 3 (45:50):
The ASA Stars put out their schedule for this coming year.
Speaker 6 (45:54):
I see, yeah, and they got kind of a doubleheader
for Wisconsin. They'll be at Slinger Super Speedway Sunday June
twenty first, and then on Tuesday at Madison June twenty third.
Speaker 4 (46:08):
It's an interesting racing on a Tuesday night in Madison.
That's happen done that in a long way.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
We used to do that. That was always one of
the rounds of the Nationals every when they were at
both tracks. We have Tuesday nights.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
Oh yeah, but there's there's a downside. We have to uh,
there's a five hundred pound elephant sitting in a corner.
We got to talk about it. The Indy Car Series
is racing at Road America the same day as ASA
Stars are racing its Slinger, and.
Speaker 6 (46:37):
There's a dirt race too, Brian.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Yeah, the Friday Saturday, the World of Outlaws are going
to be at one forty one. So you know, save
your money now if you want to attend to all
those races, because you'll be moving fast and spending some cash.
Speaker 5 (46:50):
One thing with the Stars Race and IndyCar Race, it's
not head to head. I mean Indy Car will be
in the afternoon. Stars most likely start at night. You mean,
if you if you're quick, you can probably get down there.
I'm gonna do it all. Have to leave the New
Car Race early though, but to get down into the
Star's Race, that Slinger. But it could be done. It
could be a doubleheader day.
Speaker 4 (47:06):
Yeah, you could conceivably make every single one of those
four big events without much of a problem.
Speaker 5 (47:10):
You're a beast, Dan, We're going to do it.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Absent on the schedule is the Red Bud four hundred.
That was kind of a surprise to see. I mean
we had heard rumors that it might be, you know,
coming off the schedule. Dan and I went to it
this year. Glad we did. But they're not on the
schedule and they're opening at New Sumerna again. We'll be
there for the season opener for the Stars that Tuesday
night in February. February tenth, for the opener at the
New Summerna Speedway part of speed Weeks.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
I probably should have asked you guys before we started
about this one, but the Governor's Cup at New Samurna
is going to be in the middle of November, and
I can't Didn't we have a really bad driver turn
off for that last Didn't they have a terrible car count?
Speaker 6 (47:53):
It's then kind of dwindling.
Speaker 4 (47:55):
Yeah, Florida. You never know what you're going to get
in Florida that time of year.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
It's a thought it should be okay, but that way,
I don't know either way. That's coming up too, and
I'm not sure if or where it will be televised either.
We'll try to keep you up on that because there
are folks that don't have all of the streaming services.
They might have one or two of them, such as myself,
but when it comes to you know, God, you could
(48:22):
chase around and spend a lot of money and have
all these streaming services for one race here and one
race there, and it just doesn't make a lot of sense.
Speaker 6 (48:30):
We didn't talk either, though, about another conflict with the
twenty twenty six schedule for the Stars National Tour, and
that is that Winchester's race is in direct competition with Octoberfest.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
Why would they do that? Yeah, Wait a minute, isn't
that the same? Isn't that the ASA the same?
Speaker 6 (48:51):
Well, you would think, so it's a Midwest Tour race
and then a Stars race both on the same Sunday,
October eleventh.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
Hmm geez.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
In an era when car counts are dwindling, wouldn't you
think this would be something that would be better planned for.
Speaker 6 (49:11):
All I'm gonna say is, as the wife of Toby Noodleman,
I'm glad that Ty got to win the Winchester four
hundred this year, so we can hopefully count on him
instead to be at October.
Speaker 5 (49:22):
Fest, and that would probably cost him a few Midwest
cars as tour and the program they have for the
Stars program is not a bad deal, right, pribably mean,
if you want to do that, but if you schedule
races on top of each other, you're not gonna be
able to do something like that.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Yeah, I was talking with Mark Cross about it. I
think it was Friday. We were talking for quite a
while and he said, it's been a really good deal
for them. They get a really nice hunk of change
every time they pull in, they get six pit passes,
they get their drivers registrate. I mean, now they had
to pay that money up front, but he said he's
more than gotten that back already. So yeah, guys like
that are the ones that it's really gonna hurt because
he's gonna have to pick one or the other. You know,
(49:57):
if they indeed run that whole tour again next year,
that's yeah, that's a head scratcher because they're wonned by
the same guy. You know. It just it that and
I mean track TV, that's not a huge operation, Dan,
you worked for them. Now they're gonna have to split
their group up and cover both. I mean, are they
gonna let you have two of them going at once
because a guy like me over here, I'm gonna have
to have two TVs going to watch both.
Speaker 5 (50:18):
Of those of it that happened before that happened at
the Jefferson Race. Jefferson there was too race was the
same night as the Track Will Cross one. Because they
were there a Newport, Tennessee problem. So that was and
that was kind of a skeleton type crew. I mean
it was, but he had to work. But you know,
with the less people. But that's kind of the same
thing there where I got split up.
Speaker 3 (50:36):

See they were supposed to have mentioned or or announced something.
Junior said something about announcing a full time gig for
Carson Quopple. Did they were they did.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
I just don't know if it'll be in the same car.
I think it might be between two of the cars, but
he's going to be running full time next year in
the Expinity series. Excellent as O'Reilly series, it's not expended anymore.
I gotta click car on with that, all right.
Speaker 4 (52:44):
And I got to add about Carson with him being
this first time, you know, we talked to him quite
you know, for a while a little bit on Thursday
during the media thing. I mean, what a well, what
a well mannered kid. I mean for someone who really
wasn't in much of the limelight. I mean, we we
all saw it. He did a really great jobry articulate
and how he said it, very gracious about everything he did,
I mean, really came off.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Well.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
It's just too bad. We never saw Travis all weekend,
you know, to congratulate him on you know how cool
this must be for him. We looked around yesterday. I
didn't even see him.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
Yeah he was supposedly here, but I didn't see him either.
Speaker 4 (53:14):
I'm sure he was, but I don't know if he
got in later what We just never were able to
run into him.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
Yeah, it's called pardon me, the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts
Series or nope, I know, could you have thought of
something better?
Speaker 5 (53:31):
That reminds me of remember when when Rusty Wallace first joined.
It was was Wallace Miller Penske or something like that.
You used to win racing, remember that became Penske South
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
Or or or Toyota Racing development turds. You know, yeah,
I think you gotta think about stuff like that. This
week at that press conference we mentioned that the Steve
O'Donnell had Jennif Fryer, who's not afraid to ask questions
that make you cringe, said to Steve O'Donnell, Dan, it
(54:09):
had something to do with if you penalize Hamlin for
speeding on Pitt Road.
Speaker 5 (54:14):
Right, Yeah, The question was should Hamlin incur a penalty
or if their penalty happens during the race, are you
concerned about fan backlash because of the lawsuit in the
background and all that. It got kind of mad about it,
called it an absurd question, and really it shouldn't come
into play at all. But it was the question that
you know, she asked, because it's hanging out there, people
are thinking, you know, i'll just los suit help and
(54:37):
Hamlin has a propensity for speeding on Pitt Road. But
you know, o'donald backed it up and said that there
are a lot of technology on this deal. You don't
just you can't just make a call right now. We
have receipts to back it up. You know, there's plenty
of technology out there that we can show where they
did speed.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
Yeah. The other side of the coin there is NASCAR
is almost probably afraid to do it, thinking there might
be you know, backlash. You know, I'm not sure or
if they're afraid of that kind of car.
Speaker 6 (55:02):
No, they're not afraid. They're just stupid.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
There's a difference. Parker Kligerman, ex driver, current announcer. I
don't know if you put it on a post that
he had. You know, when you're listening to drivers in
the UH Exfinity series talking about their race cars and
they also say, yeah, my car was as fast as
(55:26):
Exfinity Internet, and you thought to yourself, you know, I
wonder if they're supposed to say that. Hello. Yes, as
a matter of fact, Clickerman, let the cat out of
the bag. It was six hundred dollars cash when you
said that, No, it seems like it should have been
more than that. Didn't my car was fast as Exfinity Internet.
Speaker 5 (55:46):
I think somebody kind of told it up for Connor Zilich,
he made like thirty seven thousand dollars, saying fast as
Excinity Mobile's.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
He has a fast car too. I don't even know
anybody that has Exfinity Internet. Is it available in the
state of Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (56:03):
I think it is. It's better in probably larger metropolis's.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
Uh huh, okay, well that would answer that, all right.
Speaker 5 (56:13):
I met the guy Beck when was twenty fifteen. They
came into the sport during the media tour at Charlotte.
They had a big deal at the Art Museum downtown
and Charlotte, complete with beef, Wellington and wine. It was
quite a quite the deal. A lot of people felt
out of place because it was so fancy. I remember
they asked me what kind of wine you want to like?
Speaker 8 (56:31):
I don't know red.
Speaker 5 (56:32):
They don't ask me that at slinger There you go.
Speaker 3 (56:37):
Well, I think they have wine. Now it's Slingers, so
they get cocktails. You might as well have wine too.
All right, let's uh, we're at that point where we
made our picks for championship a long time ago. All
three of my partners picked Ryan Blaney to win the championship,
so we'll just cost those out. I picked William Byron
(56:57):
to win the championship, and yet it would be a
slam dunk to pick him, the same guy that I
thought would win it all today, I just cannot get over.
First of all, Hamlin needs to win this. He's running
out of time and NASCAR's.
Speaker 6 (57:13):
You know, his dad is dying.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
His dad is dying. This has got to be Denny
Hamlin time. Right, Well, Kyle Larson has got a rocket
ship today. He's the best driver of the bunch as
far as I'm concerned. And it's sure is gonna be
hard not to have Kyle Larson as the winner today.
It's I guess it's a it's an observation more than
a prediction. Yeah, I said Byron was gonna win the championship,
(57:38):
but my god, it's gonna be tough to keep Kyle Larson.
Go ahead and just give us your thoughts, my partners.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
Well, I'm gonna, yeah, I'm I'm I'm gonna. I'm gonna
kind of say that I'm still kind of right because
I think Ryan Blaney's gonna win the race today. Ryan
Blaney wins the race and Denny Hamlin wins the championship.
I'm not gonna drink Kyle Larson because if they do win,
I can't wait to give Jesse a high five and
shake his hand afterwards.
Speaker 6 (58:04):
I'm actually going to go next because all I gotta
say is ditto to what Brian just said. I think
Blaine's gonna win the race, and I do hope Hamlin wins.
I'm like Aaron Baird. I want to have the controversy
be very uncomfortable for NASCAR.
Speaker 3 (58:17):
It would they wouldn't damn.
Speaker 5 (58:19):
I'm gonna go with I think Blainey is a good
shot to win this race. I agree the Penske cars
are good here. I'm gonna go with Kyle Larson, though.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
I think.
Speaker 5 (58:27):
You know, we talked to Jesse Saunders this week.
Speaker 9 (58:30):
You know.
Speaker 5 (58:31):
One of the things he said was, Art you glad
you have the Penske cars. He got them out of
here because they're pretty good in practice, and so I
think I got something for them. I think we're okay.
So he was pretty confident. I think eleven and five
are your two favorites for the championship. Twenty four is
right there. Nineteen's a little bit behind. They had that
tire issue in practice. A lot of guys had tire
issues in practice playing with the Canberra in the air pressures.
(58:51):
So the nineteen lost in practice time because at the
eleven has got that clutch issue would just still going on.
They claim they sot to have it a fixed, but
they didn't replace everything.
Speaker 3 (58:59):
So that batch of bed doalve springs or something.
Speaker 5 (59:02):
In last last week, somebody asked the question of what
engines are running this week or two, and Larson said
that he had He's got the engine from the nine
car last week and they were like, well, it's got
to be a good one. And Chase Briscal's like, well,
I can tell you Denny and I don't have ours
because we don't want those because they blew up.
Speaker 4 (59:18):
Man. I think going into the weekend, I was going
to give a lot more to Chase Briscal because I
thought you would have been in really good shape. But
losing that, I mean they lost over half of practice.
And this is the old format. We got the fifty
practice fifty minutes of practice, so it really sucks for him,
but best of luck to Chase. Good guy.
Speaker 3 (59:32):
Hey, here's something we want everybody to remember. Real race
cars have doors, even if they do climb in through
the windows. Let's talk Nascars produced and directed by dangerous.
