to come. Gophers in town marooning gold uniforms Wisconsin home white,
Wisconsin in red diagonally down the chest were underway. Badgers,
who have won fifty seven percent of face offs, win
the opening face off. Shoals dumped it in and then
Minnesota avoids trouble in front of its own net and
the Gophers will set it into the Wisconsin end. Daniel
Hauser will one hand the puck around of the near
(01:44):
side Badgers exit their zone more as he gained the
red line and spins it deep into the zone to
our left. Crunching hit by Simon Tassi as he takes
the stick out of the hands of Luke Middlstat pass
up to center ice intended backside for Javon Moore. Good
hand eye co ordination by Logan Hensler to knock down
that aerial feed and then dump it into the offensive zone.
(02:05):
Gophers get to it and pitch it out to center.
Wisconsin's Joe polatachuck in on the rush left wing to
the goal line, lost it put it into the corner
gave it away.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
L J.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Mooney, one of these six freshmen in the Gophers lineup tonight,
just coughed it up. Here's Fitzgerald backside or left. Finley
takes it off the end boards, pressured by Eric Paulson,
wheeling blind pass to the slot, intercepted by Mooney. Take
it away now by Brody Lamb, one of their captains
from Byron, Minnesota, carries it into the Wisconsin zone to
our right. Luke Osburn, freshman defenseman out there with Joe
(02:36):
polatachuck for the time being. Finley patient as he comes
up to the Wisconsin line, tosses it across to Pulata Chuck.
Badgers will get a full change minute twenty end of
the first period. No score the Badgers and the Golden Gophers.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
You know, I saw that beautiful hit by Cassie on
Luke Middlestad, and I look down at the roster. Luke
Middlestad at five to eleven is the shortest and smallest
guy in their defensive corps.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Like Montgomery with a pass backside, trying to hit his
teammate Kyle Kuchanan flying into the zone. They didn't can act.
Here comes Osburn now works across rink wide, passed to Kuchanon,
took it off the wall, through it on goal to Pasco,
made the stop, juggled it a bit, and then put
his mid down and covered and got a stop at
eighteen oh nine to go here in the first no score.
(03:23):
The Badgers and the Golden Gophers. Yeah, Minnesota swept the
regular season series a year ago, earned a tie and
a win here two years ago at the Cole Center.
Last season, the Gophers swept the series three to two
in regulation and then three to two in overtime.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Well, the last play Kyle Kuchanan up against the boards.
There's one thing that he's not scared to do is
shoot it from any place. Yeah, he's up near fifteen
shots on goal. Kuchanon scored his first goal of the
season last weekend against Alaska based off to the left
of the Pasco Horbach takes over for deering.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
The puck goes to the corner. Adam Piedla first shift,
gets lunged into the corner, works through the physicality of
Middlestat and battling for the puck. Middlestat gives them a
jabb or two from behind. Now trying to knife the
biscuit free Gopher is able to squirt it out away
from traffic, and then a collision deep between Deering and
middle stat and now here comes Minnesota's Graham Harris transfer
(04:19):
from Division three Augsburg. He goes down a delayed penalty
on Wisconsin. Harris hold, fourth line right winger, drew a
penalty on the Badgers and not what Mike Hastings and
his staff wanted, an early infraction, giving Minnesota a power play.
Two minutes and nineteen seconds in.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Holding, he'll be the call on Jack Horbach and again,
as he mentioned in the pregame, stay out of the box,
don't give them any life, and Horback takes an unfortunate penalty.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Again two nineteen holding on Horboch. Minnesota's power play is
two for twenty one this season, less than ten percent,
tied for forty eighth in the country. Good Wisconsin penalty
killed eighty three percent. Fitzgerald Finley out there, they'll put
a puck on net Lamb. It's snuck through right pad,
saved by Houser. Badger's heaven all the way down onto Pascuo,
(05:11):
who leaves it off. Now for the defenseman Leo Gruba,
he'll he'll run the power play up top. They want
him firing away. Talk to Bob Moscow prior to the
game tonight about the struggles Minnesota's had on its power play.
He said, we just need to shoot the puck more.
So they decided to put the six to one and
ninety five pounds Gruba up top, and he said, we're
just gonna let it hammer him, hammer the puck and
(05:34):
get him to the net and see what transpires.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Well, as big as their defenseman are, maybe they should
put the defenseman.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Down low and the forwards up high. Right, they've got
Clark out there with Zeemer, LJ. Mooney, Brody Lamb, and
then the loan defenseman is Gruba. Badgers win the face off,
patient leap, a lot of chuck flips it off the
glass into the Minnesota zone, so the Gophers will come
two hundred feet minutes thirty to go on the penalty
(06:00):
to Horbach. Here comes Minnesota's Clark up the left wing,
slowed by Morrissey, dumps it in lamm down the right
wing wall. The right hander gets it off to Zeemer,
pushed it towards the front of the net, but Clark
unable to play it. The Badger is able to clear
it all the way down. Badgers get fresh penalty killers
out there. Fitzgerald and Finley back now with Shoals and
(06:20):
Jack Falin who's listed as the extra defenseman here tonight.
Interesting the Buck played down on Wisconsin from long range.
Eric Paulsen from the red line scooped it towards the
Badger's cage and Hauser had to play a tricky hop
on this Halloween weekend and able to glove it man
a face off to come. Hopefully the philosophy will continue.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Minnesota not having problems getting into the zone, you know,
atypical to the Badgers, but once they're in there after
the first pass, it seems like the Badgers are just
able to freely clear it down the ice.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Which I hope could trend continues. Wisconsin four for four
on the penalty kill against Alaska last weekend, had a
short handed goal, a big one for Jack Horbach. Minnesota
zero for four on its power play and two games
getting swept at home by Minnesota Duluth only two shots
on goal on those four power plays. Wow, Minnesota wins
the offensive zone face off. Here's Paulson now the left
(07:14):
handed swede out to the right point in August Falloon
becket Hendrickson's pass to the point and erit one, and
that sends the Gophers all the way back into their
own zone.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Sendrickson more of a defensive forward than an offensive forward.
I'm surprised to see him here in the second unit of.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
The power play. And now they'll send it in. Tate
Pritchard out there, another good looking freshman from Savage Minnesota.
Badger's battling for it. Twenty five seconds left and the
Horbach pedallee. Wisconsin's Pilata Chuck gets to it. Plenty of
ice and he'll throw it all the way down. Four
minutes gone by opening period, no score. Badger's short handed
here for another fifteen seconds. Here comes Paulson, left hander
(07:56):
slides into the Wisconsin zone, splits a couple of Badgers
coughed it up Gavin Morris. He intercepts, slowly plays the
puck into neutral ice back pedals. Now waiting for reinforcements
at Horbox pedal he has expired. Wisconsin gets the job
done on the pedalty kill. No score. Four and a
half minutes in. I'm wondering if Horbox might get an
year full from the head coach or maybe associate head
(08:18):
coach Todd Cannatt. That might be going on as we speak.
I know last week Hastings benched Horbock for a few
minutes after an unnecessary pedaling and then he comes out
makes a big play. Oh pick set up in front.
Mooney t really fired one from the slot and just
missed the far post. LJ. Mooney from West Miffland, Pennsylvania,
(08:40):
through the National Team Development Program bave science good hustle
by Simon Tassy to avoid icing. Botterrelled down for support,
pulls the puck free, thought about pulling it to the
point he got squashed on the corner wall by the
defenseman John Whipple. We play on no penalty, and now
Jack Falin has it for Wisconsin. Here's Luke Osburn. He
fell across the blue line, but gets back up on
(09:01):
his skates, maintained possession, shoved into the wall by the
defenseman Whipple. Still battling botterrel holds. Tried to get it
deep and put it right on the stick of John Whipple.
The minute Tonka native up to center ice pass intended
for John middlestadt intercepted by Wisconsin and dumped.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Down in well, just like every other Minnesota team, their
transition from defense to offenses second to none.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Ram Harris takes a good hit from Shoals. He separates
the puck from Harris and gives it to Montgomery. Now
zelling off tic tac toe to Kukan in right wing,
peels away at the hash marks off to Shoals. Now
little room to work. He stops and looks Scholz. What's
he going to do? Back door? Goes off a skate
on goal. Stuff by this pass Quo and now it's
zelling off, trying to cycle with Blake Montgomery. He's engaged
(09:46):
with Middlestat. Puck came free to Axel Begley. Badgers try
to force a turnover. They do. Kuchannan tried to draw
it to the net, came off his stick, Montgomery kept
it alive, turnaround, shot cookin and stopped by to pass
Quo and he covers.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Well, that's I'm intense for checking. Those three young gentlemen
turned to puck over in four, maybe five times in
one ship down Low never got really good shots on net.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
But the fact of the matter being is that.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
They didn't let Minnesota have any type of an easy breakout,
and they were able to dominate on the loose Bucks.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Last appearance for the pass wo three nothing lost to
Minnesota DA Loop last Friday stopped twenty one of twenty
four shots. He did beat North Dakota on October eighteenth
up in Grand four, stopping twenty three of twenty four
to pass Goo. The former Michigan State Spartan two and
zero in his career against the Badgers, coming as a
sophomore last year with the Spartans, Morrissey low right Finley
(10:40):
with it. Mike Hastings has already changed up his line combinations,
putting Morrisey back between Finley and Fitzgerald, and the puck
lobbed over the head of Hensler, although Joe Bladichuck quickly
back into his own end to help his defensive partner,
passed by Finley behind Hensler, forcing him to hustle. After
the Badger's fortunate to chip it out to see better.
Fitzgerald gets around the middle stack, kicks it to his forehead,
(11:02):
then it crawls off the toe of his stick to
the far side. He'll carry the defenseman Gruba into the corner.
Gophers come out of there with it four shots on
goal for Wisconsin, two for Minnesota, no score, thirteen oh
eight to go of the first here's Finley. Now Deering
joins in the offensive zone. Deering tied up, loose puck
picked up by Paulson, slowed by Fitzgerald. It's done a
(11:24):
nice job on the wall, Christian he likes to get
physical every once in a while. Long Lean feed Mooney
behind the Badgers defense, but can't catch the puck out
his stick. Howser paddles it over to the near side
and the Gophers force a turnover. Moony down to the corner,
but the only person there is Wisconsin's Aiden Dubinski, who
chips it ahead to Jack Horbach. Lost possession for a moment,
(11:45):
Dubinski there to help deering it. The red line sweeps
it in seven and a half minutes gone by. In
the scoreless opening period of Badgers and Gophers, good hit
by piedl up on the defenseman Whipple Badger Steel. Deering
chipped it towards the high slot. Ettla had already vacated
that spot, and now Piedla with a good hit on
Brody Lamb. Puck held in for a moment. Now whistle
(12:06):
it offside twelve fifteen to go in the opening period
Wisconsin and Minnesota, no score. American Family Insurance is the

From the rail Transport Broadcast booth. Bryan and I and
here at the Coal Center and Mike castings and has
shifted his lines a little bit. He had talked about
this earlier in the week and actually thought about doing
this last weekend against Alaska. Well, it's interesting because I
think that's where tulk originally started, correct with Bottrel and
Tassi and Oliver Tulk is out there now talk. The
freshman from Calgary played for Calgary the Western Hockey Big
(14:00):
and started the season with Botterrel and Tassie and registered
a goal and five points in the first four games,
but held without a point last weekend against Alaska. Steel
botterl centering pass intercepted by Minnesota Mason Moe, another freshman
from Eden Prairie former Madison Capital with a steel He's
got the puck at the center circle. Hears to his
right shoal slows his progress. Henzler picks up the loose puck.
(14:22):
Good defensive play by Zach Scholes and now kokan and
knocked off balance. Got to pass off the shoals yet
an open man right wing botterrel but muff the pass.
Now it's loose to the red line. Minnesota's mo puts
it on the stick of Wisconsin Shulz. Zach will take
the ice available and then Tulk couldn't get a deep
off the back of his stick, and Minnesota possesses again.
John Whipple, I don't think Louis puck off the stick
(14:45):
of Prichard and into the crowd. Everybody seems to be okay.
Thankfully there's unfortunately there's empty seats, but thankfully empty seats
where that puck would flying.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
I don't think that pass that Zach was making was
in particular, was supposed to go to Montgomery.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
It was supposed to go to Montgomery.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
But it got intercepted in front and the next thing
you know, it becomes a turnover at the blue line.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Still no score. Eleven fifteen to go. In the first
centerized face off between Clark and Zelenoff, and Wisconsin wins
the draw. Duvinsky throws it off the high glass deep
in the Minnesota zone to our left them, ruining gold.
Javon Moore lost the puck. Montgomery had it on his
stick twice. Now pladachuck a rising shot that was blocked down,
(15:28):
loose chip dat Zelenoff has it and the Ceili will
send it into Kyle. Kuchanan peels away from the defender
stick Kadling shooting once sat made rebound. Oh ricocheted into
the air to the near side, ziling Off with it,
tried to put it back to Montgomery low left, won
back by Pilada Chuck. Montgomery to the fellow freshman, zillanoff stick,
candling and looking. Ziling Off now turns back to his left,
(15:51):
cycles off the wall. Kuchanon looking back. Door man was
there Dubinsky, but the puck didn't get through. Good look
centering pass intercepted by the Gophers. They'll take it from there.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
One of the few times that I would suggested Duvinsky
pinched down, and it was because it ended up being
a two on one in front. He and Montgomery were
taking up a lot of space.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Divinsky a couple of assists in six games as a Badger,
scored seven goals in his one hundred plus game career
three years at Minnesota Duluth before transferring to Madison. Morrissey,
Fitzgerald Finley back out for the Cardinal in white, Osburn
battling also Falen on the ice for the Badgers. Falen
getting physical with Brody Lamb buck in the corner. Here
(16:32):
it's Eric Paulson trying to dig it free. Instead, Finley
has it wheeling pass off the stick of Osburn, collected
by Falan. He leads the three on two Jack Falan
dropped past Morrissey. Can he walk the defenseman? No good
stick that time by Finn McLaughlin, freshman defenseman from Canmore,
Alberta centering passed by the Badgers, Finley intercepted by Lamb
and thrown out to center. Nine and a half minutes
(16:53):
left of the first five shots on goal for the Badgers,
only two for the Gophers. Minnesota not only averaging only
two and a half goals game, only twenty three shots
on goal per game. They're not getting many fucks to
the nets.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
No, it seems to every time they've been in the
zone here in the first ten minutes is more of
a puck control offense rather than just shoot it for
the sake of shooting it.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
John Middlestadt left hander on his off wing We'll slide
it back around the corner behind the net to Osburne,
who goes to get it for the Badgers. Piedla snaps
off pass up the middle to Shules, angles a pass
ahead to Finley, can't get a step on the defenseman.
Good play by Luke Mettelstead to slow the progress of Finley,
who coughed it up fuck lobbed over the point. Man
shoals though, recovers at center ice and we'll fire it
(17:36):
down in eight fifty to go. Still no score. First period,
Deckzheimer down the boards, pinned against the end boards, now
by Middlestat, getting some support from Grady Deering during the
freshman from des Moines six two two oh one. It's
tough to move out of there. Adam Piedl is out
there too, seeing his first game action of the season.
(17:57):
Low Wright shoots one said may and rebound behind. Then
Nick Ray pushed it on the net. Deering almost able
to get it inside the near post, but the passco
kept that out and the Badgers back into their own zone.
Plata Chuck here, he comes up the middle, off to
his left, had his pocket picked taken away by Beckett Hendrickson.
Drop pass now charging in quickly, a chance for Mason
(18:20):
Moe and good defense fact checking Simon Tassey making a
heck of a play.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
All he did was interrupt his hands for enough to
make a bad pass.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Now Horback had a stick swept out of his hands,
low left. They try to put it in front. Hendrickson
was there, couldn't get his stick on it. Gabbled up
now by Tate Pritchard. Where's number three out the McLaughlin
The defenseman finds Axel Begley. His shot stung Pladachuck, who
gets credit for another block shot. He leads Wisconsin in
block shots this season with eighteen, but Minnesota still with possession.
(18:50):
Moe flubbed a pass to the point. He's now tied
up on the near side, wall Hensler doing the job.
There they find an open man long range shot. Whipple
missed the net. Houser watched it go to his right
and then ricochet back to his left, centering pass off
the stick of Beckett. Hendrickson taken away by deering. He'll
calmly scoop it ahead. Not strongly enough for icing. Badgers
badly need a change, Yes, they do. Now across the line,
(19:13):
he was offside and they'll drop the puff back by
the Gopher zone seven point fifteen to go here in
the first period, no score. That was the best pressure
that Minnesota's had so far. Exactly the case.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
And it wasn't that they got a lot of shots
on net, but they did have an extended period of
time for puck control in the offense of zone. And
I shouldn't say that they had the Badgers running, but
they were Badgers were always maybe a step away or
a step short step shy of getting in intercepting passes
and taking men off the puck.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Osburn and Dubinski the defensive pair out there right now,
Tulk is playing with Brian Botterrell and Kyle Kuchanan, And
now Jimmy Clark kicked out of the face off circle
and Brody Zemer will step in.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
If Tulk starts playing goal, then I'll know he is
a very versatile talk.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Won the face off. He's been very good in the
face off circles this season. Sixty three percent botter point
man Dubinsky. A slow rolling shot goes off a stick,
then airborne Kuchening got underneath the defenseman. Jacob Brombach had
it for a moment then lost it and now Clark
up ahead for Zeemer, too far for him. Osborne gives chase.
I thought that would be a nice thing. I thought
(20:21):
so too, But the Badgers come out of there with it.
Dubinsky to mooterol nifty stick handling away from two gophers,
talk wide right, drop past Osborne. Beautiful stick handling moved
to Botterrel in the slot. He maintains possession while going
backhand forehand through the way and then battle back to
get it right wing. Botterrel comes into the dot show
throws one towards the net, kind of a slow rolling
shot that the pascuo was able to stop and cover.
(20:44):
Sounds like the fans crumbling that maybe a penalty should
have been called. Botterrel had his hands lifted a couple
of times. Stop at jim play. Six point thirty three
to go in the first still no score between Wisconsin
and Minnesota. This is Badger hockey from Rearfield.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
You're at the call center during a prey. A young
man just proposed to his girlfriend. She said yes. He
was so excited. He reaches down. He's got like this
knit hockey helmet looking hat on, hockey sweater on. He
stands up, He grabs his beer and starts chugging it
after she said yes, that's the first for me. Oh
(22:26):
that was funny. No score. Wisconsin and Minnesota face off
to the left of Luca the pasquo. Finley carries the
defenseman into the end boards, but the defenseman Middlestat maintained
possession of the puck. And now Minnesota a whistle. They'll
say delayed off side. On Wisconsin, they'll drop the buck
outside the gopher zone.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
I had is such an uncomfortable position for Jack failing
to be in on your backhand. If I throw it
back in, hopefully nobody touches it right.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
It works out, yep. Face off at center eyes. Now
tulk back up with Finley and Fitzgerald. My Hasting's doing
a lot of maneuvering early on here. Fitzgerald physical play
along the boards, free the puck for Finley. He'll spin
it down to the right corner. First man there as
the captain of the defenseman, Ben Dezheimer. And now Finley
had his stick chopped out of his hand. That's a
(23:16):
call out. Three on one far side. Mooney looking in front,
lamb kept out by Howser. You back at Houser, stop
that one too. Badgers have a puck and in transition
it's Faling and Finley. Oh the Badgers got away with
too many men on the ice is ziling Off joined
the rush with still three players trying to get to
the bench. Minnesota takes the puck back and Mooney will
dump it down in big save early on for Houser
(23:39):
on Brody Lamb, Yeah, that could have been ugly. Finley
near the Badger's bench across the way pushed it back
to Falan d Todd to sholz up to cooking In
and he takes a crushing shoulder check from Whipple, but
still dumped it in. Ziling Off, though apply some pressure
freed the biscuit from Montgomery. Silanov then just got dripped.
(24:02):
He tried to get to the puck and make the move.
It looked like the defenseman Rombach got his stick underneath him.
Wisconsin will get a cutest power play looking to take
the first lead of the nights.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
That is one large, large child who just pulled them down.
The Blaine, Minnesota native Jacob Rombach at six ft six ouch.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Six six and he's two ten is of freshmen tripping
at fourteen forty seven on Rombach and so Wisconsin gets
its first power play. The Badgers eighth best in the
country this season little less than thirty percent eight of
twenty seven. Went three for nine last weekend against Alaska
in a soda seventy three percent on the penalty kill,
(24:44):
six goals allowed, twenty two chances. UMD went three for
five on the power play against the Gophers last weekend,
but Motsco told me prior to the game two of
them went off skate, so you know, yeah, you can
look at the percentages, but they weren't picture perfect. Here's
Tassy with it left wing down the goal line, Morris
Fitzgerald's in front of the net. Morrisey back right side
to Tassie right wing, Finley, Dexheimer wants it. No place
(25:08):
to shoot, Finley dex Sheimer playing catch. Now dex Shimer
does shoot? Say made Finley? Oh, he tried to push
it up short side onto Passcuo miss the nets. We
had to Pascal was down. It's a good place to go. Yeah.
Morsey sweeps it around to the far wall and Finley
gathers on the right wing. Minute thirty to go in
the cuenest power play. No score here. Late first period,
Morrisey low left dex Sheimer right wing, finley slot pass
(25:30):
for Fitzgerald, picked off by Lamb and clear.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
Yeah, you've got to put it on your stick if
if you know, we call it to Tony Esposito or
the Phil Esposito power play, the Boston Moving power play.
Four man box and one guy in the center. But
if you don't hit that guy in the center with
right on the stick, it goes all.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
For not second power play in and out Badgers try
to gain control in the offensive zone. They do, Boykuchen,
It's got a quick step here tonight. Tulka's out there.
Montgomery Kuchan in side bottl of the point. Man is
Logan Henzler. Chensler scored his first goal the season last Saturday.
It proved to be the game winner in the four
to one win over Alaska. And the Gophers get the
(26:10):
puck and clear it down again.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
And that'll, I think, bring the first unit back as
quickly as possible.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Thirty five seconds to go on the power play. Here's
Hensler up the middle left wing pass caught by Fitzgerald,
works his way across the line, protects the puck, looking
for support. Morrissey now right dot back to Fitzgerald. Dex
Shimer wants it no place to shoot. Dex Sheimer works
right now to Morrissey at the half boards right, dex
Shimer straight away, Finley left wing sets and try to
hit Tassy stick may have but the puck trickle to
(26:39):
the far corner. Fifteen seconds to go on the power play,
dex Sheimer Finley looking shot towards the front of the net,
off the stick of Fitzgerald. Carem's to the near corner.
Now Kruba leans into Morrissey, preventing him from getting the puck,
but Fitzgerald there to take it away. Two seconds to go,
pass out to the right point in dex Sheimer off
his stick up into the Minnesota bench, just as the
(27:00):
Gophers got back to full strength. So Wisconsin over won

Speaker 5 (27:17):
What I liked about the powerplay was that they had
several opportunities, and when things weren't going their way, they
couldn't set up quote unquote their standard powerplay. They just
made adaptive moves. They just put it to somebody else.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, Horback, deering Piedle out. Now for the Badgers with Plata,
Chuck and Dubinski at center. Is It's Hendrickson, the son
of Darby Hendrickson, former Golden Gopher, longtime Minnesota wild assistant.
Buck is loose in the slot of the Wisconsin zone,
but none of the Gophers can get to it. Moe
(27:53):
and harassed by Dubinski. Horbox slides it ahead to center,
but Whipple will take it from Minnesota off to Middlestad,
who rules it in on Hawser and he left it
there after stopping the bouncing puck that ricocheted off his
left pad, and Hendrickson was hustling in trying to get
to it first, but Howser did, and now Hendrickson had
it bat it off his stick. Prichard sweeps it out
(28:15):
to the point McLaughlan long range shot blockers saved may
by Hauser directs it to the far corner. His rebound
control is pretty good. Not the last one from fifty feet,
but that one there had directed it exactly where he
wanted to go. Now, Pillata Chuck wheeling around behind his net,
just got tripped up, but no penalty called. Dubinsky has
the puck and we'll skate ahead. Pass intended for Montgomery,
(28:37):
too far for him. Back to centers zill and off
PopEd it ahead Montgomery. He's got possession left wing wall.
Two minutes to go on the period, no store backpedaling
ziloof all his backhanded attempt stopped by to pass. Well,
nice look by Montgomery. Zilodolf ran out of real estate.
Speaker 5 (28:53):
Yeah he did, but he also had his back turned
to the place. So anything that he did he knew
he had to go upstairs and just didn't.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Get it up high enough. Osbourne d tody to Falan.
He back pedals into his own zone. Here's Luke Osburn,
defensive player of the year in the USHL last year.
Across the line. He comes, tried to shoot Fan on him,
sweeps it back behind the net. Now looks like Piedl
is tied up. Wisconsin's got the puck. Osburn back to
(29:19):
the corner. It's cooking in with it now. Head's right
cuts back left, pinned against the wall, but able to
find Osburn left wing bottlerel reaching for it point past Tulk,
he'll shoot one. Got through to pass quote, kicks it
to the far side. Minute thirteen to go, no score.
Tulk slows the progress of the Gophers. They heave it
down to the Wisconsin zone Zeemer after it Clark down
the middle. Zeemer tough engled shot. I think Howser may
(29:41):
have gotten a piece of it. Seemer again behind the net,
good looking right handed forward and his pass intended for
more off his stick taken by Wisconsin's Bottrel. Now Tulk
with under a minute to go, Tulk trying to get
around the defenseman Begley shoved him into the wall. Tulk
kept going. Tassy there to help, but now Minnesota picks
up the loose change pass found the stick of Zemer
(30:01):
left wing. Now it's Clark and Zeemer was off side
with forty two point one seconds to go. Here in
the first period. UW Health Sports Medicine, the healthcare team
for the Badgers and proud partner of UW Athletics.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Well always seem some significant line shuffling. I'm not sure
if it was because of penalties or people got hurt
or injured, whatever the case may be, but it seems
to be working. Out pretty well. Oliver Tulk playing with
anybody who will play with them, and the seven defensemen
have made a lot.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Of rotations they have in the Soda wins the face
off and rims it around. Pritchard with it right wing,
pulls it away from two Badgeries, Kruba no place to shoot,
cuts left back right, his shot blocked by Pilata. Chuck
puts it down in front of him. Try to start
the rush out of the zone, no luck, and then
he pushed it to center. Then the Gophers take it
from there and then Dexheimer able to poke it away
(30:55):
from Mo and it deflects down to the Minnesota's one.
With fifteen seconds to go on the period. Gophers after
it big hit Buck free, Gophers have it, Bode chips
it far side, Hendrickson slowed by Hensler. Hendrickson dumps it
in five seconds to go on the period. Duvinsky backhand
tried to clear, unable to do so, and now the
horn sounds, ending the first period of play. Ten shots
(31:18):
on goal in the first period to the Badgers four
for Minnesota. We have no score after one period here
at the Cold Center. Tonight's game brought to you by

All the Badgers and Gophers scoreless after one period of play. Again,
the Badgers with ten shots on goal in the opening
frame four from Minnesota. Daniel Houser wasn't tested except for
that one, that three on one that he kept out
of the net. Yeah, and he had good pad position.
Next thing you know, it going into the corner, so
(35:21):
there was no rebound out in front.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
And give credit for the to the defenseman who just
knew where the puck was going and his partner ended
up picking it up. But again offensively, Badgers with ten
shots and Gophers with four. And the only highlight was
on the big scoreboard when that guy proposed and she said, yes.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Yes, exactly exactly. Bob Motts, go ahead. It's going to
be the only guy to score tonight. I hope that's
not true. Bob motsk Mike Hasting's longtime friends, part of
what they call the Minnesota Mafia with Frank and Tom
Seratori among others. You know, it's funny Bob Motscow in
his career against Mike Hastings at Wisconsin and Minnesota State.
(36:06):
He's twelve five and one all time against his good buddy.
By the way, Hastings in his career against Minnesota is
twelve eleven and one. He went ten and six against
the Gophers while he was at Minnesota State. Motsco's career
record against Wisconsin thirty wins, twenty two losses, and five ties.
But these guys have known each other for a long time,
(36:27):
and you can tell they just like to rib each
other too.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
You may not find a better person than Bob Motskow.
He went through some personal tough times a few years ago,
and I know when I was going through some tough times,
he was one of the first people. I mean, I
haven't been behind the bench in twenty years, and all
of a sudden I get a call, Hey, it's Bob Motskow.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
I know what you're going through, Bob, blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
And it's people like that where you realize what a
small and intimate family actually hockey coaches are. And so
I take my hat off to him every time. The
fact that he's got Steve Miller as his assistant just
makes it weird, more even weird, even more weird. When
I coached against Steve Miller, he was the club hockey
coach at Whitewater.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Oh sure, And I was a JV going wow yeah,
And it was a war every time that we played,
and I was just like, oh my goodness. Yeah. Yeah.
I asked Moscow what it was like traveling with Steve Miller,
the Sun Prairie native, and he said, agonizing exactly.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
You got to take your pain pills before you leave.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Yeah. Oh, he's a colorful character. I will admit that. Yeah.

was off in Minnesota, scoreless. As we get set for
period number two, the Badgers four to oho and two,
their best six game start since the two thousand and
two thousand and one season, when Jeff Sowers squad got
off to a seven to oh start. Say to be
said of the seventy three seventy four Badger Bob squad
(38:18):

The eighty one eighty two Badgers thirteen oh to one
in their first fourteen games.
Speaker 5 (38:27):

Speaker 2 (38:30):
You were the reason they went through the jvs and

Speaker 5 (38:35):
Rook said to me one day, he goes, in, what's
the difference between our power play from when you played?
And we you know, in my junior year, I mean,
I've never seen a power play like it. We finished
at what thirty seven point seven percent or whatever it was,
And he goes, what's the difference?
Speaker 2 (38:54):
And I said, you should allow them to shoot.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
And next thing you know, that was like a license
to kill for Jelly, Olsen, Flatley and Driver, and I like,
oh boy.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Badrick skating left to right. Here in period number two, Morrissey,
Tassy and Bottrel on the ice together. Ryan Bottrel with it.
He'll heave it into the right corner. After it middle
Stet carried into the wall by Tassi, freed the Puckford
Bottrel to the point. Man in deck Szeimer faked left
stop now shoals his high rister missed it at traffic
in front. Tassi went down. He's missing most of his stick.
(39:30):
Now there's a gopher laying on top of him. Shot
from out high by shoals off the end boards, ricocheted,
did the pass Quo's right. He put his mid down
to cover and now a whistle stops play and fans
wanting a penalty as Luke Middelstad found himself pinning Simon
Tassi along the far goal line.
Speaker 5 (39:49):
Oh, I thought he and Tassie were doing like a
little WWF on the side there. I didn't know what
was going on. They were rolling around like two kids
in a.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Sand pit and tass You off to a good start
this season. Three goals, seven points plus six as a
goal in each of the first three series this season,
four points from last year's total. Three goals from last
year's total. An injury plague junior campaign, Fitzgerald had a
chance to steal in the offensive zone over skates buck
(40:19):
out to center. After it Pulata Chuck reaches for it
once twice, now has possession, leaves it ahead right to
the right hand of Oliver Tulk finds Quinn Finley point man.
Polata Chuck shot partially block trickled towards the slot, trying
to retrieve Tulk as the defenseman whippled tried to skate
out taken by Tulk. Now right side passing tenant for Fitzgerald.
(40:40):
Good sliding play by the defenseman Rombach to break that up,
and then Polata Chuck couldn't hold his zone. Badgers have
to touch up a little over a minute gone by
here in period number two. No score.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Yeah, and there's not a lot of ice marks down
in the Badgers zone.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Now beers Fitzgerald now works his way into the offensive zone.
Pass left wing to Finley. Didn't catch it cleanly, otherwise
he could have ripped one. Now Tulk spins around to
the far side. Kucanon lets it go to the point
man Osburn. Dubinsky puts one towards the net, got through
to pass Goo to the corner. Steers it there. That's
a long shift. That's where John Whipple takes it. Can't
clear Dubinsky's got it slot pass. He fanned on it. Oh.
(41:15):
He had Montgomery coming right down the middle, and we
saw what Montgomery could do when he comes down the middle.
Last weekend against Alaska, went through all four polar bearers
on the way to the net. Here's Wisconsin's Osburn goal.
Lye left, works behind the net and out of the
right wing, turn around backside passed for Kuchan. In wasn't
ready for it. It handcuffed him. He was open low
left and just couldn't receive the puck. Half of the
(41:37):
net was wide open waiting for him to shoot. Yep,
here's Kuchan and now slides it ahead on the attack.
Wisconsin'sad On off left wing and Montgomery can't catch that
pass he was open to. Gophers take a hit, try
to clear, nudged out to center. Two ten into the second,
still looking for our first goal of the Knights, Montgomery
gives Jason shoulder to shoulder with a defenseman ron Bach.
(41:59):
Gophers can't clear. Falen holds works right, shoots one low
off a ski a stick or eskate to the far corner,
taking out by Zillan Off rows it out to the point.
Falan steps in, blocks shot by Hendrickson and then chopped
out by the Gophers and dex Sheimer will be the
first two. It out through the neutral zone back up
the middle, now to Adam Piedla change from twenty eight
(42:21):
to the number eighteen as a sophomore this season, Gophers
set it back to center shots on goal twelve to
four for the Badgers, still no score. Piedla across the
line left wing. I'll snap one off too high over
the outstretched right hand glove hand of Luca to Pasquo Piella.
Horbach deering on the ice for Mike Hastings squad. Horback
(42:44):
takes a shoulder from middle stat tries to get around
the veteran defenseman and the puck slides far side to Rombach.
Headman passed for Moe off his stick and the Gophers
need a change and the Badgers with possession now. Piela
got squashed by the defenseman Max Rude redchord softwore from
Saint Cloud and the Gophers sent it all the way
(43:05):
down on ice. The buck face off to come and
the Gophers end sixteen thirty four to go in the second,
still scoreless. Here in the Big zent opener between Wisconsin
and Minnesota, a lot of skate marks down in the
Minnesota zone.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
The Badgers have done a good job of having zone control.
Even if there's not a play, they'll just dump it
undown to a corner and let their forward the defenseman.
He'll dump it into the corner and let the forwards
go and get it. Minnesota's had a really tough time
here in the first three and a half minutes, trying
to get out of their owns end.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Morrissey wins the face off Hensler's shot block. Tassi goes
to the corner trying to fend off Gruba. Botterrel in
the way on the left wing wall, throw it back
behind the nets. Rude now will sweep it up, pass
the point man and all the way back Wisconsin's way,
no icing, and the Gophers again get a change.
Speaker 5 (43:56):
Yeah, I think a Gopher touched it at the blue
line when he was being pinched.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Head man pass slur to Botteril can't walk Rude the
defenseman who's been out there a while trying to poke
it free Jevon Moore, and now it's taken by Minnesota's Rude.
That man's up the right or left wing. The Ziemer
now to clark down to the corner of the Wisconsin zone.
Badger's after it there. Morris he can't pull it free
(44:19):
to Gophers. Three badgeries behind the badger's nets. Kevinski can't
get to it out to the point. McLaughlin pass off
to Begley and he'll pitch it down to the corner.
Around to the left corner. It comes McLaughlin pinching down.
Fitzgerald meets him there, and now the Badger's Joe Palatachuck
has the puck and slides to the head. Finley la
(44:39):
Fitzgerald behind him. They tried to stretch it out. Fitzgerald
has the angle so no icing as he got to
the puck first. They got knocked down from behind. In
a penalty coming up on Minnesota. Finn McLaughlin puck in front,
Oh to Pascal kept it out. Falan. Now with it
far side. Osburn extra attacker for the Badgers. The late
penalty on Minnesota. Osbourne hits the brakes far corner, sends
(45:01):
it out to the point. Morrissey passed. Now straight away Falan,
we'll go to the right wing. Finley extra attacker. Delayed
penalty on Minnesota. Badger's trying to get on the board first,
Finley one time or to pass. What made the stuff
rebound there? Fitzgerald had it on his stick, couldn't locate it.
Gophers possessed whistle blows, stopping play. Oh and then Felan
just took a stick in the mid section it looks
like I here, you went up under the neck, up
(45:23):
to the neck or up under the face. We've got
a penalty for sure on Minnesota. Are we gonna have
one matched up with Felan and Mooney? Maybe so.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
I'm not sure Jack may have instigated it, but the
retaliation should definitely go against Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
There should be two penalties on the Gophers. There will be.
They're gonna take the defenseman McLaughlin who's.
Speaker 5 (45:50):
Banked Faling right in the head, but I'm not sure
that that wasn't a retaliation shot. The initial call would
be the tripping call.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Holding on McLaughlin five h six. Then l Jane Mooney
for Minnesota Jack Falin of Wisconsin both get two minutes
for roughing. So McLaughlin's penalty, though, gives Wisconsin a cune
his power play a five on four skater advantage, or
(46:23):
as my grandmother used to say, is that two minutes
for not playing nice? Roughing? Is that rough housing? I
love it? Badgers are going to get a power play.
I don't care. Yeah, oh for one. So far tonight,
based off to the pass Row's right, Morrissey did work
out wins a draw, Lamb has it and they tried.
(46:44):
Captain scoops it all the way down to the Wisconsin zone.
Dex Shimer has to hustle after it and he faked
out lamb and has some open space. Morrissey right wing,
Finley across the line, stops outside the circle, passed off
to Dexzheimer, back to Finley, right back to dex Shimer,
and the Badgers will set up no dex him great.
The wrecked Fitzgerald and gells Airn Badgers with a power
play goal had on top against.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
Minnesota five point twenty eight of the second period, and
what seemed like an innocent play with two Badgers in
front of the net against tube Gopher defenseman just locked
the puck at the net and I think it was
Fitzgerald who touched it originally. I'm not sure if the
second badger down low had anything to do with it,
(47:28):
but it just tipped it, changed its angle, bounced into
the net. To be honest with you, doesn't matter how
you score them, it's how many you score. And that
is a power play goal for Bucky here at five
point thirty eight of the second period, excuse me.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
Finley got it to deck Sheimer and then he shot
the puck and Fitzgerald able to get his stick on it.
Tassi was in the vicinity too to Pascual was moving
left of the puck, ricochet back to his right. Fitzgerald
will get the goal, a power play goal, his fifth
goal this season, fourth on the power play, with de
Rozheimer and Finley getting the assists. It's one nothing Oh,
(48:04):
a chance for Montgomery, but to pass vo able to
keep that out. Badger's battling slot Cookin analyzing shot inster
that off the glass than the shelf. Badgers continue to pressure.
A lot of chuck, far sided sailing off Oh poked
away from him, Mason mow potential breakaway two on one,
a lot of chuck Backboe with it right wing, Chulty
scars right off the right shoulder of Houser and in
(48:26):
freshman Mason mo gets the game tying goal just a
few moments after the Badgers had taken the initial lead.
Speaker 5 (48:33):
Yeah, and every coach will tell you that a turnover
at the offensive blue line is the worst you can have.
It was a two on one and I really expected
him to make the pass, but instead he took the
bad angle shot and he was just at the faceoff
dot and he beat Hauser bottom low stick side. Yeah,
tough place not to make the stave.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Mason Mo gets his second goal of the season. The
former Madison Capital who had seventeen goals for the Caps
a year ago in the Usahl gets an unassisted goal
at six oh five and so thirty seven seconds after
Fitzgerald's power play goal, Mo ties it up a one
to one game here in Madison, thirteen forty four to
(49:15):
go in period number two.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
Well, when it rains at poors, I guess, I mean
we went so long, we went almost got twenty five
minutes without anything happening, and then all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
It's bang bang, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:30):
And it's kind of the temperament of the game that
it has been tonight.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
It has been so.
Speaker 5 (49:36):
Evenly matched except for shots on net, and when they
got the opportunity, they made good on it.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
Fifteen to five shots on goal in favor of Wisconsin.
But it's a one to one game. But through center
ice back to get it, Luke Osber passed to Botterrell.
He blew a skates, blew a tire, but he's back
up on his skates now. Beckett Hendrickson hoop check by
Dubinsky and the Gophers have it again. Here's Hendrickson now
(50:06):
three goals, twelve points as a freshman. The Boston Bruins
draft choice Osburn now with it for Wisconsin. The Buffalo
Sabers pick long lead feed for Tassi, too far, he
has ice the puck. Let's pause ten seconds for station identification,
ten seconds for a legal ID. You're listening to Wisconsin
Badger Hockey.
Speaker 20 (50:27):
You're listening to Badger Hockey on the only station that
gives a puck. News talk thirteen to ten wid.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
The finale's Saturday night six o'clock with five thirty pre
game on the Badger's four network, based off to the
right of Daniel Hauser Clark with a draw won by Wisconsin.
Dubinski poked it ahead, fn Rols slides a slow moving
past to Tassy, runs it down right wing shot. Oh
A pet's saved by the pass quote. He can't control
it though it got caught up in his skate. It
appeared as he extended his left leg. Badgers, though, couldn't
(50:57):
get to the loose puff and the Gophers set it down.
Speaker 5 (50:59):
That is one thing about Minnesota's defenseman. They don't skate
by the puck. They'll stop and make that extra that.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
I guess, the extra effort in order to get that.
Some defensemen make those mistakes right, well, they'll skate right
past the nets.
Speaker 5 (51:14):
They'll see that the goaltender head the shot and go
for a public skate.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
Badgers take the pucket center three on three, Finley backside right,
Tulk past, too far for him, tough angled shot though left.
Pillows say, by the pass quo and now here's Logan Henzler.
He feathers one towards the net. Break the brack donal
a chance for Finley as it popped into the air,
but he batted it wide. Finley's got it low. Left,
cycles off the wall to Tulk. Oliver. Tulk shoots one load,
(51:41):
just missed. An nearside post comes off the corner boards,
pitched back in by Polada chuck. And now it's Fitzgerald
tied up centering past Finley from behind the net. No
one there for the Badgers. Gophers scoop it all the
way down. It rolls wide to the Wisconsin net. Could
hustle by Pilada chuck. That caused icing, so Wisconsin gets
an all fensive zone face off. Eleven fifty four to
(52:02):
go in the second. It's a one to one game
here in Madison.
Speaker 5 (52:05):
Interesting, Platachuk was in a foot race with Graham Harris.
And it's been a long time since I've seen a
Division three player come from Augsburg of Division three of
the Minnesota League. And now he's the starting right winger
on the fourth line at the Minnesota Gophers. So something's
good about him.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Graham Harris nigels twenty two points in twenty five games
at Augsburg last season. Badgers have the puck Dubinski backpedals
at the blue line, left wing, pass Kook and any
whistles one and the passco made this stop kukan and
then with a strong check to free the biscuit centering
passed by Wisconsin's Montgomery all the way through everybody and
(52:48):
down to the Wisconsin zone. It goes well.
Speaker 5 (52:50):
Interestingly enough, Dubinsky was not going to take that shot.
Kuk would take it from any.
Speaker 2 (52:54):
Place right exactly, puck up at center. Kuk couldn't control it.
Now here's August Falloon, Badger's take it. Osburn with it.
Bob Mootsko called Luke Osburn a wild colt. He is
kind of u uh here it comes untethered. Oh, a
(53:16):
blast by Montgomery, left wing, stop by the gold tender,
the blockers saved, made by the pastuo and then right
in front of the net Brody Lamb got hammered into
the Gophers netting and Wisconsin's Kuchen's going to get a
two minute minor.
Speaker 5 (53:31):
Yeah, two minute minor for cross checking. I think is
going to be the official call. And we've got a
stoppage in play.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
With eleven minutes to go in the second period, Wisconsin
and Minnesota tied at one. The golfers have a power
play when we come back. This is pager hockey from Learfield. Hey,

tonight two for twenty two this season, Clark, Mooney, Zemer,
(55:13):
along with Lamb and Gruba the five skaters for Bob
Moskow Squad Morrissey to take the draw. Minnesota won it
though Gruba's got it in the zone to our left.
Mooney steps in low left and the right hander spins
back to the point. Gruba back left wing. Mooney open
steps toward the cage, fires one in and out of
the glove of Howser. Badgers can't clear. Gruba holds Mooney
(55:34):
with it outside the left ring, got Morrissey to move
wild pass out to the right point in lamb. He
was headed one way, the puck went the other and
it came out to center and the Gophers after regrow
Na Tim Mooney's really quick. Holy cow, has he got
some wheels. He is LJ. Mooney, fourth round pick of
the Montreal Canadians this past season two years in the
National Team Development program. Averaged over a point per game
(55:57):
with an NTDP last season. Tough thing to as a
seventeen year old playing USHL in college competition.
Speaker 5 (56:03):
He just loves to have the buck on his stick
and he is ultra quick.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Across the line. They'll throw it towards an ad good
reach by Falan preventing it to getting to Hauser, but
from behind Fulloon took it from Falan, spun around to
the far side wall Finley after it quickly tried to
two hand it out, no luck. Nice catch left wing
Loony backside pass, good stick by Falan, high stick Fulloon
on the head of Findley. Nothing called now Gruba far side.
(56:30):
It's Falloon Gruba one timer on goal. Houser save rebound
there for a job. He chuggled it then covered forty
five seconds to go in the Gophers power play, one
to one game, nine forty five to go in the second.
Despite the fact that that was.
Speaker 5 (56:43):
A point shot with all four of Minnesota's players down low,
a point shot by the right handed defenseman. Please notice
that there are three Badger defenders in there chopping and
hacking to make sure that our goaltender, mister Hawser doesn't
get anything chipped in on him or tipped in on him.
Speaker 2 (57:01):
Good play defensively. Morrisey out to take the face off Horback,
his partner on this penalty kill with Plata, Chuck and Dubinski,
puck loose in the circle and Horback reaches for it
and gets to it back hand. He'll lift it high
end of the air all the way down. Morrissey giving
chase as Prichard got there first from Minnesota. Ramp it
around far side, and there's Luke Middlestad with it. Now
(57:22):
Montreal Canadians seventh round pick a couple of years ago,
works this way into the offensive zone pass right wing,
Falloon's got it. The left hander peels back at the wall.
They go d to the Here's Paulson actually point the point.
If you will only one defenseman on this power play,
it's Middlestad who has the puck. He cuts left down
to the circle. Now I'll pass back out to Paulson
(57:42):
off the stick of Pritchard. Paulson bounces at far side.
Falloon after dots to the goal line. They go four
seconds ago on the power play. Here's Paulson now walking
down goal line right. Tried to shoot Fan on it.
Padger's have it out of the box. Comes Wisconsin's Kuchenin.
Diving pass ahead by Horbock to Kuchanan, but he had
no angle to the net, stopped and then waits for reinforcements.
(58:03):
Gets at centery pass Montgomery. The scores all patient play
by couching in allowing sailing Off to get on the ice,
and then Montgomery off the bench right to the net.
Hammer's at home second straight game with a goal for
the big freshman Blake Montgomery to to one. Wisconsin. Well,
it was two options.
Speaker 5 (58:23):
Cochonan got the puck in the corner and there were
actually two Badger forwards making their weight towards the net
against one Minnesota defender. And if you could see the replay,
you'd see that Montgomery was the most open and Couchanon
picked the right guy to give it to.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
Blake. Montgomery scored his first goal last Saturday. Gets a
second here on this Thursday night at eleven thirteen from
selling off and Kuchon and the Badgers back on top
two to one. Let's see if they can hold this
lead longer than their first. Yeah, lasted just over a
half minute. Minnesota with a puck, here's Javon Moore, good
(59:02):
looking athletes, sends it into the Wisconsin zone. Dex Sheimer
got his stick on it, out of the near side.
More try to dig it free. Instead, it's Cukon in
with it, slide to pass through traffic to Montgomery, crawls
off his stick. Montgomery follows it up. Kuchanin's got it.
He shoots one. It's block Montgomery had it out of stick.
Now here's Hensler hit shop block, got it back. Hey
(59:22):
scores oh Hensler second after hey Berry's won three one.
Wisconsin leeds Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (59:31):
Well, we were worried about how quickly they would come back,
you know, like Badger scored all of a sudden Minnesota
coming back. But this was two nails in the coffin
in a very very short period of time.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Well, they did it. Last Saturday, Ian we saw Hensler
and Montgomery score two goals early in the third within
fifty six seconds. Here, Montgomery scores, then Hensler nets won
forty three seconds later, the Badgers go from a one
to one side to a three to one lead. Just
like that, Hensler gets the goal, his second in as
(01:00:05):
many games, and he equals his freshman total Badgers with
a three to one lead. On there our tribal out
shooting the Gophers twenty one to seven. Talk mishandles its center,
but retrieves the puck cross the line, shoots one and
into the bread basket of de Pasquo, who's on his knees.
He gives up no rebound with seven to forty five
(01:00:26):
to go here in the second period of play. Well,
it doesn't take much time for the tide to change,
does it. Holy cow?
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
That was good offensive pressure, a little bit of luck, yeah,
and pinpoint passing by everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Who is involved in those two goals. Base off in
the offensive zone. For Wisconsin, but won by Minnesota. Face offs,
the Gophers have the advantage sixteen wins to eleven. The
Badgers one of the best face off teams in the
country better than fifty seven percent, but the Gopher's getting
the better of him there as far as initial possession
(01:01:03):
of the puck and it slides into the Wisconsin zone
Shoals but not out long range shot redirected Ziemar on
goal and on his knees. Houser saw the play coming
and smothered that shot for his seventh save of the nights.
Speaker 5 (01:01:18):
That's just a defenseman's nightmare. You get Dexheimer left there
all by himself. Schol stepped in between two forwards in
order to try and chip that puck out and to
get intercepted by the Minnesota defenseman. He gets a shot
that means that Shoals and two forwards are up by him.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
He gets a shot down low.
Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Dexheimer's there to try and pull down the fort and
to be honest with you, it was a one on
two against Dexheimer. Luckily Hauser was there to close the
door and freeze the buck.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
Paulson in the face off with Morrissey and the Gophers
win it. Lamb tries to shoot Morse he got his
stick of the way. Badgers now have the puck Tassy
with bottle roll two on three Tassy down to the
right corner. Bott roll after Gophers get there though, and
Paulson will outlet the Lamb banks it off the glass
out to center, give Kyle Kuchanan the lone assist on
Hensler's goal. Kukan in with a couple of helpers within
(01:02:10):
forty three seconds of one another, and a shot from
a tough angle botterrel stick saved to passquo and it's
thrown out to center by Minnesota. That'll kind of get
him with a lead. That'll kind of get him out
of the court. Chastings doghouse. Here's Wisconsin forsy. He rips
one from the left circle, stop by to Passuo good
two feet outside the crease that he hangs on. Stop
(01:02:32):
it and play six thirty seven ago in period number two.

At Menar's three to one Wisconsin lead. All the goals
scored in this period the Badgers Fitzgerald, Montgomery, and Hensler.
Minnesota's mow lit the lamp. Badrew's pressuring in the offensive zone.
Steal the puck. Here's horrorback back pedaling in the slot.
(01:04:22):
Good Pope, check by Middlestad, good fight back by Piedle,
and tried to win the puck back a Dubinsky down
the wall, able to gain possession. Now Deering will shove
it down deep. Horbach try to play it away from
Axel Begley. The puck loose in the corner. Deering, We'll
try to dig it from there. I thought you were
going to see Axel Foley. There's Davinski now off the
(01:04:45):
right wing. Here's Osburn from the left point, Skase to
the right. Now back to the left, turnaround shot. Where
is it? It's loose. It may have hit Deering in
the back or the back of one of his legs.
It was loose in front of the Minnesota net. But
the Gophers now have possession. Begley outlet pass to tape
Pritchard and Pritchard will scoop it in Axel. Begley played
(01:05:06):
for the Wisconsin Winnebego or wind to Go, that is
Winnepego for the Wisconsin Windigo, which is now based in Brookfield.
Used to be the old Minnesota Magicians, but they're playing
out of the ponds in Brookfield. And the coach of
the Wisconsin North American Hockey League team, not the NAHL
up in Eagle River NAHL three, but the one in
(01:05:29):
Brookfield is John Mitchell, the former Wisconsin Badger. I don't
know if I'd do anything bad with him as my coach.
He was a Coach of the Year in then all
last year he won forty one games, got to the
good Man the league semi finals, five minutes to go
on the second three to one, Wisconsin Lee Montgomery some
(01:05:49):
nifty stick handling and then he turned it over. Here's
Mooney with it. Turns on the Jets, but three Badgers
on him. Mooney faked Wright, came back left and then
just got crushed by Wisconsin's Kyle Kouchen and he's on fours,
no pedalty. Mooney's still down, and the whistle blows stopping play,
and he remains down on the ice. It looks like
the Minnesota trainer is going to come out Jeff Winslow
(01:06:12):
as Mooney remains down on all fours.
Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
Neither official made any effort to make a call on
how they're talking about it outside the line. But I
don't think either official. There was one right down and
then one right out here by our blue line, and
I don't think that either one of them thought that
there was anything of any significance with the check.
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
But it was.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
Actually it looked like incidental or accidental contact because Mooney
hit the brakes and then Kouchen And was right behind
him and basically fell on top of him. There wasn't
like real strong contact, correct, But Mooney, I don't know
if he lost his wind or what. But he went
back to the Gopher bench without his helmet, now sitting
down and being attended to. Maybe one of those hurt situations.
(01:07:02):
Face off outside of the Wisconsin zone won by the Badgers.
Schulz takes his time up the middle Hensler left wing
pass redirected by Findley deep to Pasquo, thought about going
to his right, went back left, around through everybody and
back into the Wisconsin. Zeta goes, here's logan Hensler. Now
he lost the pot. Yeah, then he got his system
(01:07:24):
sticking away, knocking Clark down. Penalty on the Badgers sophomore defenseman. Yeah,
misfired on the buck came around the corner of the ned.
It came off of his stick.
Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
Minnesota takes it, and he didn't really intentionally just chop
him down or anything. He stuck his stick in between
his feet and the young men from Minnesota tripped over it.
So it'll be a two minute minor for tripping with
four twenty four left here in the second period, and
the Badgers will find themselves with the defense of his
own face off and a man down.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Third power player the night for Minnesota zero for two
so far. So Hensler gets the gates or Bach with Morrissey, Plata,
Chuck and Dubinski on this pedally kill. Mooney is back
on the ice.
Speaker 5 (01:08:09):
I was about to say, please notice who's standing right
out there in the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Two goals, four points for Mooney so far this season.
He's got the puck low left, setting up Clark is
shot tonyed by Howser ricochet to the far side. Good
playoff the face off but Howser up to the task
out to the point Kruba right side. Lamb thought about shooting.
Now steps in his shot blocked by Dubinsky right to
Kruba low left. Oh, Mooney, that's fought off by Houser.
(01:08:33):
Excellent stop by Houser. Moving to his right. Mooney chips
the puck to the corner in Clark fight through some
contact cause the puck Dubinski tried to clear hit his
teammate went to Kruba low left. Here's Mooney his shot
off a skater two. Then the right pad of Hawser
slides around to the far side in Mooney. A minute
twenty to go on the Minnesota power play. They've had
(01:08:53):
some pressure here. It's a three to one Wisconsin lead.
Late second period. Leo Kruba pitch to backhander, off to Clark.
Out at Gruba again he's looking to shoot. Mooney wants
the puck and gets it out high rights. Mooney now
squares low right, Clark to the dots out to Gruba,
catches on a backhand left wing now to Mooney. Fifty
(01:09:13):
eight seconds to go on the power play, low left.
Chance for Lamb try to put it in front, Deflected
to the corner. Who's trying to set up Zeemer. Moody
now with it.
Speaker 25 (01:09:23):
L J.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
Mooney left wing. Zeemer open shoots one, plucked by plata Chuck.
He chops at it once or twice, try to get
assistance from Dubinski. The Badger's trying to dig it free.
Aiden can't clear right to the stick of Gruba again,
thought about shooting. Mooney wants it thirty seconds to go
on the power play. Mooney low right, Clark with a
pivot and it gets three to Zeemer and he hammers
(01:09:45):
it in a power play goal from Minnesota. Wisconsin lead
down to one here late in the second period.
Speaker 5 (01:09:52):
Unfortunately, the Badgers were trim pinned in their own zone
pretty much the entire power play, and the penalty killers
were out there for a minute and a half. Minnesota
did get to change some powerplay people, but they just
kept hammering at it and hammering at it and hammering
at it. And it wasn't a pretty play by any
stretch of the imagination, as two Badgers tried to take
the puck carrier and Zeemer standing all by himself out
(01:10:15):
in the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
Front Brody zeemer Is fourth goal of the season. It
comes at seventeen to oh eights and so Minnesota because
a two goal deficit to one. Brody Zeemer, who had
three goals in seven points in four games against Wisconsin
last season, gets a power play goal. Here's a three
(01:10:36):
to two games and really Owser had no chance on
that one at all. No Clark and Mooney the helpers
on Zeemer's goal. Badgers have it. Fitzgerald Finley off his stick,
Middlestat ties him up, Binley tries to fight through it instead.
Tate Pritchard, now has it from Lakeville High School, sends
(01:10:59):
it down in shoals. After it patient with a puck,
Falan break out to Finley, He'll skate up back, can
pass just out of the reach of shoals. Zach will
catch up to it and dump it down in With
two minutes to go on the period, Finley lifts the
stick of a defenseman setting out on the Jetla and
he didn't get a lot on at that puck trickled
past the goaltender to Pasco and why out to the
(01:11:21):
point Dexheimer thought about shooting, waited out a tulk blow
the goal line left Piedla over skates and now Minnesota
with possession. Whipple takes a crushing blow from Jack Horback
as he released the park and the Packers now half possession,
and hit Horback.
Speaker 5 (01:11:37):
Yeah, it was lucky, illegal and the referee was standing
four feet away.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Pienla Osborne shot no oh, the Pasco was down and out,
got back up on his skates. Horback from behind the
net tried to bank it in off the goaltender. No luck.
Turn around shot Piela from long range, leaning right with
his glove to Pasco. He snags it and hangs on.
Three to two, Game one, twenty four left in the
second period.
Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
Good way to rebound after that powerplay goal against. They've
had great offensive pressure here for the last minute and
a half to two minutes and some big time hits
by Dekhorbach based.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Off of the Minnesota's zone. Again, the golfers are two
five and one. Bob Motsko admitted we're disappointed. They own it.
He said not good enough yet, but he said give
us time, we will be good. I think I agree
with him. Golfers hanging in right now, only thirteen shots
on goal, but they've scored a pair down one nothing,
(01:12:34):
then tie them down three to one. It's now three
to two with seventy five seconds to play, Kukanon will
fire it in left corner to right down the boards.
Montgomery helped to the corner by Minnesota, and a long
range shot by Henzler skipped y off the wall, p
a lot of chuck low left back behind the net,
(01:12:54):
knocked off balanced with a stick, no penalty called. Minnesota
able to get it out to center with under a
minute to go on the period. Here's Henzler now from
his own zone up ahead to stealing off cuts left
and then dropped it back to Montgomery, but threw it
back out of the offensive zone, so the Badgers have
to touch up. They do. They'll get a change with
(01:13:16):
thirty five seconds to go on the period, and Middlestat
will stand back behind his own nets. Look middle stat
Madison Capitol first team All USHL in the twenty one
to twenty two season. Very very good player, Yes, sir,
he still is. He's a senior now with the Golden Gophers.
(01:13:38):
That's fuck chop. Dada goes over the glass and into
the crowd. Eleven point eight seconds to go.
Speaker 5 (01:13:44):
I remember watching him with the Capitols and now he's
the senior and I'm going okay. Times flying way too
fast for me right now, way too fast.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Tays off outside the Minnesota zone. Three to two, wisconsonant
with the lead. All the goals scored here and period
number two. It's amazing how that happens, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (01:14:03):
Yeah, we got nothing in the first period for either team,
and then all of a sudden the doors floodgates open
and bingo, they're gone.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Off the draw. Here's dex Sheimer to Osburn low left
back behind and at Osburn turning and trying to go
short side in tight He got the puck on gold
in the past Goo stopped it with his face and
then he fell down, lost his stick. The puck went
to the corner as the horn sounds.
Speaker 5 (01:14:26):
Interesting coaching change by coach Hastings was all of a sudden.
Dexheimer and Osburn are the two defensemen with only eleven
seconds left. Not gonna worry about making a defensive mistake,
but you are going to give yourself an opportunity offensively.
Speaker 2 (01:14:43):

to two. It is three to two after two periods

Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Well he in a very eventful second period. It was
scoreless after one, and then the Badgers got on the
board after Finn McLaughlin took a holding pedalty Wisconsin converted
on a power play, Christian Fitzgerald tipped in Ben Dexheimer's shot.
Quinn Finley got an assist. Fifth goal of the year
for Fitzgerald is fourth on the power play one nothing Wisconsin,
but then thirty seven seconds later, a mistake at the
(01:18:47):
blue line led to a breakaway or at two on one,
Mason Moe, instead of passing, elected to shoot an unassisted goal.
Is Moe Beatauser at six zh five, most second goal
of the year. So it was one to one, but
then within a matter of forty three seconds, the Badgers
took a two to one and then three to one
leads Blake Montgomery set up by Vassili Zillanoff and Kyle Kuchanan.
(01:19:10):
Second goal in as many games from Montgomery. It came
at eleven thirteen, and then Logan Hensler scored eleven fifty six,
with Kuchanan getting the loan assist. Second goal in as
many games for Hensler it was three to one Wisconsin,
but then a penalty on Kuchanan beg your pardon, A
penalty on Hensler after a turnover in the defensive zone,
he pulled a man down, tripped him and then the
Gophers just pressured and pressured. The Badgers had many chances
(01:19:34):
to clear on that penalty, kill could not. Brody Zeemer
scores a power play goal at seventeen oh eight from
Lamb and Clark, and so after two periods of play,
it's three to two shots on Golan the second period
seventeen to nine in favor of Wisconsin, twenty seven to
thirteen for the game, Daniel Hauser eleven saves through two
(01:19:55):
periods and Luca de Pasco has twenty four. But you know,
Wisconsin get on the board first, Minnesota answers, but then
two quick ones and Wisconsin was playing well. But it's
the discipline, just those little penalties that can cost you.
Speaker 5 (01:20:09):
Yeah, and coach Hastings alluded to it in his pregame show,
where we just got to stay out of the box
and that's all there is to it. And rightfully, so
each team has a power play goal, so they both
got penalized for that, but even strength five on five.
I think that the Badgers will be very successful at
least down the road against teams like Minnesota who are
(01:20:31):
not great defensively and when they do turn over, the
pucket usually costs them, and I think the Badgers have
capitalized on those turnovers, especially.
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
At the near blue line. Badgers lead the Gophers three
to two. Second intermission. We'll return in about two minutes.
This is Badger hockey from their field.
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
A lion energy powering beyond for you and by see Geek.

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
To drop the put. For the third period, Bryan host
it with the Inherent here at the Coals Center. The
Badgers leave the Gophers three to two. Wisconsin will escape
left to right here in period number three, the creased
creatures have a big beware of the greased creature's flag
flying behind the Minnesota Netminer Luca to Pascuo, who last
(01:21:26):
year at Michigan State Eaton was seven to oh with
a one seventy goals against a nine to thirty three
save percentage, beat the Badgers twice, including once in overtime
at the Frozen Confines at Wrigley Field that Trey Augustine
decided to return for his junior season to Pasco decided
to leave East Lansing and went to Minnesota, where he
(01:21:49):
replaced another former Fig ten goaltender, Liam Soulier, who had
transferred from Penn State to Minnesota. So, Bob Mosco, when
he loses a goaltender, he looks out were in his
own conference and he found Luca to pass quote who
was a really good goaltender in the BHL. Ben Tickton
won a title up there a few years ago. So
he went sixteen to oh to one of the playoffs
(01:22:11):
something like that. He's a good one, but the Badgers
have beaten him three times here tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
Yeah, he's very recognizable in the fact that he so aggressive, Yes,
face off Badgers after the puck in their own zone.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
Minnesota had it for a moment, but now Simon Tassy
out of his own and he'll gain the red line.
Nice pass ahead of Morrissey on side bottlel Morrissey's trying
walked the defenseman just couldn't finish the play, and then
he centered one off the stick of Zeemer. Tassy's got
it behind the net, trying to set up Morrissey. He
kicked at it, couldn't put it on net or anywhere
else in particular. Now Tassy out high, feathers a passover
(01:22:45):
to Hanselor shoots one low. It went off the stick
of bottlerel to the corner. Tassy up high, shovels it
back deep, bounced through the legs of Morrissey. Good pope
check by Middlestat, and the puck came to Gruba and
the big right hander will skated ahead. Lobbit ahead too far.
He just iced the Talk for no apparent reason. Fifty
seconds into the third period, three to two, Wisconsin with
(01:23:05):
a lead and unoffensive zone face.
Speaker 5 (01:23:06):
Off coming up and a good shift to start off
the third period went, they got the puck deep, they
created the turnover in their own zone that came out
of the zone, and they created five or six turnovers
against Minnesota here in the first fifty seconds. And Minnesota
is tired, and the face off still has to stay
in their end, and now the Badgers should have offensive
(01:23:29):
pressure if they can get away with it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
Yep, But Oliver Talk loss the face off to Jimmy
Clark so the puck is out at center. Quinn Finley
with it. Three goals, six six points so far for Finley,
three game points scoring streak for the Badgers. Junior forward
fuck kicked around near the Badger's line. They hold it
in man open backside. Paulson was skating wide open to
the left of the net minor Houser, but the pass
(01:23:53):
by Mooney didn't get through. An Now Fitzgerald with speed
into the offensive zone. Backside, back hand shot the byzone,
a swooping glove safe by the pasco. He hangs on.
Oh boy, the Badger's picked up the pace there and
Tulk almost finished. Yeah, it became a three on two
just because of speed. But you look at the pasco.
Speaker 5 (01:24:12):
It's a backhand shovel pass by Tulk trying to put
it upstairs. And it's one of those ones where if
I was a goaltender, I'm sorry, but I would just
show it to him and say, you better shoot harder
than this.
Speaker 2 (01:24:22):
Young man's filing off out with Kuchanan a Montgomery. This
has been a successful line combination tonight. Kuchanan off the draw,
just over skates. It's poked past ten all the way
down to the Wisconsin zone as it rolls that way,
and now Luke osburn for Wisconsin. You know, Bob Mosco
will be coaching the US and the World Junior Championship
(01:24:43):
in Minneapolis at the end of December and in January,
and he's got an eye on Wisconsin freshman defenseman Luke
osburn and sophomore Logan Henzler, who won a gold with
the US at the World Juniors a year ago. Badgers
just ice the puck too offensively gifted defense.
Speaker 5 (01:25:01):
Yeah, I would agree that, having not seen the rest
of the young men who qualify for the junior team,
I would put those to at the top of my
list for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:25:15):
Hence they won a gold a year ago. As I mentioned,
Quinn Finley won a gold for Team USA at the
World Juniors in twenty twenty four. Osburne takes a man
with him and actually able to break out with a
backhand through the legs of one of the Gophers. And
now a whistle and we have what a trip the pedal.
I can now look out a little pushing and shoving afterwards.
Tate Pritchard, the freshman from Savage, Minnesota, going at it
(01:25:38):
with senior Kyle Kuchanan and I'm afraid the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (01:25:45):
Now the Gophers gave Gophers excuse me, are going to
take a two minute minor for tripping.
Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Yeah, and the aforementioned Tate Pritchard gets the gate at
one fifty seven. One of the least penalized teams in
the country this season. Last year it was are they
taking Pritchard or not? He went in the box. Now
he's back out of the box, and are they going
to take Pritchard or are they going to take Beckett Hendrickson.
Speaker 5 (01:26:15):
Richard just looked at him and like, I wasn't even
anywhere and close to this. I was still scrapping with
somebody downstairs. And it is Hendrickson who's going to make
his way. Beckett Hendrickson is going to make his way.
And the only good statistic that Beckett Hendrickson has is
that he's the only plus six player on Minnesota's team
(01:26:35):
despite their record.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Yeah, but he's in the box right now. Face off
slides through the neutral zone all the way back into
the Badger's end, and that's where Ben deck Sheimer will
pick it up. So Hendrickson in the box for tripping
at one fifty seven. Cunas power play for Wisconsin one
for two so far, leading three two. Early third period
Morse he coughed it up. They can't clear good hold
(01:26:58):
by dex Sheimer. Fitzgerald steps in Hey scores Tassie right
in front of the goaltender. Simon may have gotten the
piece of it. Nevertheless, a power play goal. It's four
to two Wisconsin. Sometimes if you don't shoot the buck,
you don't score.
Speaker 5 (01:27:12):
But there was no question that Fitzgerald realized he had
a lot of traffic out in front, and not only
did he beat the goaltender, but he beat him on
his glove side, which is rare for a goaltender to
get beat.
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
Even though the fact that.
Speaker 5 (01:27:26):
The shot was from outside the top of the circles,
there was just so much traffic in front that FITZI
just spreaded the needle basically, So a.
Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Power play goal, big one for the Badgers. It's a
four to two advantage now and waiting for a video replay.
Fitzgerald with a rister. We'll see if Tassy got a
piece of it or not. I don't think so. That
should be Fitzgerald's goal at two nineteen. They're gonna give it.
Fitzgerald from Tassie and deck Seimer, So the Badgers now
(01:27:58):
lead four to two. Goal of the game for Christian Fitzgerald.
Both have come on the power play. He's got six
goals this season to match last year's total. He has
five power play goals already this season. It helps when
you get three or four in one game, though, right. Yeah,
he had a three goal weekend at Lindenwood to start
(01:28:19):
the season. Plot of Chuck on the rush and his
rister from the left wing blocker away by the passco
and then cleared out to center. You know, the Golfers
have allowed nine third period goals in eight games this season.
Make it ten in nine and osburd tries to go
short side. It actually hit the pass one in the
mask and he shakes his head and brings his mask
off and whistle stops play.
Speaker 5 (01:28:41):
Yeah, the referee was looking right at him. Smart play
by the young goaltender. Now it's just one of those
deals where hey, it hit me up there and my
mask isn't secure.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
I don't feel safe.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
Sure, referee gives him the call, He throws off the
mask and then we'll start afresh.
Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
By the way, the Badgers have now outs their opponents
eleven to one in the third period this season eleven
to one. That's a winning formula. Oh yeah. Looking at
another replay of Fitzgerald's power play goal, not sure if
it touched Tassie or not. Simon, it may have grazed
(01:29:18):
his right knee and if so, that'll be Tassy's goal.
Right now, they have it. Fitzgerald from Tassi a beggar, pardon,
Fitzgerald from Deck Sheimer at two nineteen, second helper of
the night for dex Sheimer shot by Montgomery block. Gophers
now have it four to two Wisconsin three and a
half minutes into the third period series opener between the
(01:29:39):
Badgers and the Gophers. Minnesota swept the regular season series
a year ago. Wisconsin will dump it in and goes
off a sticking up ban out of play with sixteen
fourteen left here in the third period of play, Wisconsin
Department of Transportation reminds you to always drive sober zero
in Wisconsin. Together, we can save lives. Get the drive
(01:30:02):
sober app today. Quote from one of my senior citizens.
Speaker 5 (01:30:09):
Yes, would you tell those people from Minnesota to turn
the w the right side up next time?
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Make on me? And she was being very sincere. She
was Okay, Begley headmance to Pritchard and he's in on
the ford check. Houser kind of baited him into making
a move that allowed him to exit the zone up
to dex Shimer now at center, and then dex Shimer
ran into Begley and the Gophers have it back, but
(01:30:37):
Pritchard gave it away and talk now reaching for it
in the offensive end four to two Wisconsin power play
goal for Christian Fitzgerald, the second of the night. Oh,
here's Mason Moe got through one Badger couldn't get past Fitzgerald.
Moe went down with Fitzgerald stick in his sweater. And
now Ben dex Sheimer will come ahead. Back to back
(01:30:59):
to a games for Ben deck Sheimer last Saturday and
now here on this Thursday night and the series opener
against the Ghofs.
Speaker 5 (01:31:06):
And it never want to big up bad things about
a defenseman who plays on the power play but took
Dexi a long time to get goals last year.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
Yeah, only one. In fact, Badgers get it into the
offensive zone, Morrissey sweeps it around to the right side,
Hensler comes down the boards, it goes to the corner.
Morrissey after it bumps it off the kick plate once
or twice. Botterrel lifts the stick of the defenseman to
free the bucking and Hensler pinched up. Gruba poked it
ahead but too far, and now the Gophers force a
(01:31:36):
turnover in the Wisconsin zone. Good blocked by Morrissey. Long
range shot by Moore that was blocked and now out
to the point Middlestat fumbled It got knocked out of
the ice by Bottrel, who takes it away. Morrissey now
will scoop it down deep. Badgers need a change fourteen
thirty five to go on the third four to two Wisconsin.
(01:31:57):
Here's Mooney now Tassie immediately on him. Mooney one none
of him and sweeps it around to the near side.
Deering gives Chase Horbock bumps pulsing away from the puck,
and it's sent back deep into the Minnesota's owe to
our left middle. Stat takes a crunching blow from horback.
Badgers force a turnover. Long range shot by Piladachuck went wide,
tough angled shot stopped by to pass. Quo scrambles back
(01:32:19):
to his right, and then a pass by Deering to
Piladachuck off his stick, forcing the Badgers back into their
own zone. I found it interesting that Ryan botterol throwing
his weight around badrews getting their bumps here tonight. For sure,
Wisconsin's Osbourne will dump it into lay it offside on deering.
He's not aware of it. And now he touches the
(01:32:39):
puck and then gives a shoulder to rude. And now
the linesmen step in and separate any possible Shenanigans. Thirteen
fifty two to go here in the third Wisconsin with
a four to two lead. Sitting at the rail Transport
broadcast booth, Bryan Posik and Ian Perrin, what do you
do one on your empty Friday night Tomorrow night? I
(01:33:03):
think it's called Helloween. Oh that's right, I've heard of that.
And it's an annual thing, isn't it. Yeah, they make
fun of me at the home depot. They had all
those animated monster whatever, and the young lady said.
Speaker 5 (01:33:17):
Mister Parron, I think the rest of your family is.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
Here, Charlie and Sir Pawler. I thought, yeah, it was great.
Montgomery couchan In low right, shot up block. Couchanin's got
it back. He's got a couple of helpers tonight, stick handling, possessing,
nicely done. Kuchenon slides it towards selling Up who was
not defended in front of the net, but it went
off of skates. Paulson rims it around but not out,
failing down the boards. He'll push it back deep Gopher's
(01:33:42):
lodew control. Max rude with it. Dad, of course, very
good defenseman with Colorado College twice the Defenseman of the
Year and the WHA. Eric now assistant coach on Brett
Larson's staff in Saint Cloud. Been there for a while
now Eric could play the game boy, Yes, sir, man
failing with a puck, playing keep away from the Gophers,
(01:34:05):
Mason Moe pestering him behind the badger's net, long lead feed,
hoping to catch the Gophers napping. Finley was in the
offensive zone as the puck was loose, and now the
Gophers have it back. Begley will fire it in right
corner to left. It goes dex Sheimer gives chase down
the wall comes Hendrickson. Those two bump a bits. Now
that's Begley. One time blast from the right side, block
(01:34:27):
by Finley. Twelve and a half minutes left, four to
two Wisconsin. A couple of power play goals for the Badgers,
both from Christian Fitzgerald. Here's Finley on the attack across
the line, ran into a Gopher, still has the puck,
spends it down to the corner in Fitzgerald pushed against
the end boards by the defenseman. Rombach talk trying to
(01:34:49):
dig it away from Moe unsuccessfully, and now Begley coughed
it up to Finley turn around shod. He whistled as well.
Wide Ensler quickly on the attack behind the net looking
for reinforcements. Pass out to the point. Pallata Chuck right side,
Bottrel swings it to Fitzgerald lowright steps in saved made
by the Pasco off his stick, and then chipped ahead
(01:35:10):
by Begley out to center. Gophers badly need a change
fits He's hot, keep shooting. Jep Botterol comes flying in,
tries to get a four hander off. He dragged it
towards and at the Pasco with a saved Tassi, then
from a tough angle to Passo fought that one off too.
Plata Chuck pinches in Morrissey out the Botterrel shot rate
directed to Pasco, stopped at Tassie in the vicinity took
(01:35:31):
the crack at the rebound, but the past goo covered
fans like what they see here at the Coal Center.
We'd like to see more of you here on Saturday Night,
eleven twenty nine ago. In the third, it's four to
two Badgers over the Gophers. This is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
Christian Fitzgerald, a couple of power play goals Blake Montgomery,
Logan Henzler have scored as well. Four to two is constantly.
It's Minnesota eleven twenty nine left in period number three.
Speaker 5 (01:37:04):
The Gopher just on his own accord left the ice
with the athletic trainer.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
I didn't catch the number, but something happened. Obviously offensive
zone face off Morse he kicked out of the circle.
Bottrel will step in. Tassy to his right. Tassy with
a puck, slides off his stick and Gruba cuts him
off from getting it back, and here comes Minnesota Javon
(01:37:33):
Moore will dump it in. More of the fourth round
pick of Ottawa, Minnesota Mister Hockey finalists a few years
ago was more from Carver, Minnesota. One of the Badgers.
Tassy goes down. Gophers have the puck. Jimmy Clark. Clark
the left hander pinned against the cornerboards by Osbourne, who
lost his stick. Now he's trying to retrieve the puck
(01:37:56):
and he cuts off Clark and the Badgers, fling it
out to center oh Man. Then Tassi got his stick
in the way and the puck goes into the benches.
Speaker 5 (01:38:06):
I think he went off of the linesman who was
sitting on the boards in front of the Badgers and
went up probably ten rows up to the top side.
Because we all know that if it would have hit
an eate la point, he wouldn't even grunt it.
Speaker 20 (01:38:21):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:38:23):
Stitch me up, Doc, Yeah, right. Face off won by
the Gophers. They've done a nice job on face offs
here tonight. It's about fifty to fifty deck. Sheimer puts
the puck through traffic for himself, leads the breakout, selling
off through the center circle, drop past left playing Montgomery
now out to Kochinn, who wanted to shoot but fumbled it.
(01:38:43):
Then he did shoot a no look shot, easy saved
to pass. Well, I can just hear the other guys. Well,
you hit him in the hands. What do you expect?
Speaker 5 (01:38:52):
Here?
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
Goes Max Rude. He pitchforks it deep off the glass
houser out of his net. Look out young man, his
teammate Dexheimer and Brody Lamb of Minnesota in the way.
And then how was her able to play it cleanly out.
You know it's back into the Wisconsin zone now or
Minnesota zone. Beggar pardon the Gophers middle stat fumbled it
(01:39:12):
and then kicked it far side roots Headman passed to
Hendrickson off the stick of Shoals. Moe comes flying in
out of nowhere to keep it alive in the attacking
zone from Minnesota. Mason Moe looks like a pretty good player,
third round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils. Badgers
now have the puck here, Zach shuls to Horbach and
(01:39:33):
he'll stoop it into the offensive zone to our left.
Midway through the third period here in Madison, four to two,
Wisconsin leads Minnesota in the big ten opener up to
center steel by Horbo and then he tried to draw
it to his forehand, lost it across the line. Badgers
on side. Gophers though with the puck. Axel Begley with
it and he'll scoop it into the Wisconsin zone. Kind
(01:39:56):
of flopped it in and stopped for Zach Schulz who
picks it up. Sholes missed the last four games with
an injury, but back out there now. It's played pretty
well tonight too. Junior alternate captain. Badgers get a change
with nine minutes left in the third lead feed got
off a stick. Look out, here's more centering past a Zeemer,
but he flubbed it and Zemer harder the net had
(01:40:18):
a step on Fitzgerald. He just slid down like he
was going into second base to avoid any contact with
a goaltender.
Speaker 5 (01:40:25):
I was about to say, if there was anybody who
was going to catch him, it was going to be Fitzgerald.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
He's got some wheels. Who's John Middlestad? Now into the
offensive zone? Fourth line centerman put it towards the front
of the net. Houser, where is he? He's going back
and forth. A shot blocked. Here's Gruba now, group of
backpedaling near the blue line. Fitzgerald stays on him. Dropped
it off now Zeemer long range. Battling in front of
the net. Two Gophers, three Badgers. One of the Gophers
(01:40:50):
just took a shot from his own teammate. Whipple hit
more more, struggling limping to get back to the Gophers bench.
The Badgers deep into the offensive zone. They go oh
Finley to morrisy goal line. Left walks in Osbourne blast
kicked out by the Passcuo and he makes that look easy,
doesn't he? He does it. Yeah, get a shot on
(01:41:12):
net and then I'm back. Yeah. Eight minutes to play
in the third and the Osbourne will lift it ahead.
It's sliding towards the net miner to pass Goalwana's knees
will cover seven point fifty three left in the third,
four to two. Wisconsin against series finale tomorrow a beg
Your Pardons Saturday night at six pregame at five point
thirty on the Badgers Sports Network in the Varsity Network app.
(01:41:35):
There is hockey on campus tomorrow night. The top rank
Wisconsin women open a weekend series against third ranked Minnesota
tomorrow night six o'clock. Badgers have won ten in a
row from the Gophers, including a six to two win
in the NCAA semi finals a year ago at Mariucci,
where Wisconsin eventually beat Ohio State and a thriller to
claim its eighth national championship.
Speaker 5 (01:41:58):
It's as much of a love hate relationship as the
men's side of the bucket.
Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
Oh yeah, here's cooking in from the right wing wall.
Whistles won wide and he carried off the near boards
and all the way out to center and Osborne back
to get it with Zach Schulz right now, seven and
a half minutes left in the third BADGERWS finished sixth
in the Big Ten a year ago with a seven
sixteen to one record. Pick to finish fourth this year.
(01:42:23):
Here comes Montgomery into the offensive zone. It's deck Seimer.
The Shoals steps in a rising shot, miss the net.
Should say Wisconsin pick to finish fifth this year. Minnesota
picked to finish third after equaling the number of points
Michigan State had atop the conference a year ago, but
the Spartans got the number one seed in the tournament
(01:42:44):
with a better head to head record against Minnesota. Then
Michigan State went on to win the tournament. Horback will
dump it down in and he falls down. Appears to
be okay, no harm, no foul against Axel Begley. And
now it's the defenseman Finn McLaughlin and then Grady Deering
(01:43:05):
just pasted Axel Begley who released a pass up to
center ice and Deering just went shoulder to chest and
crushed the young man to the ice.
Speaker 5 (01:43:15):
And the fact that it was open ice, you know,
that makes it even more impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
Clean hit, long range shot by McLaughlin off a body
behind the nettic goes Piedlo, walling off Grub of the
puck underneath Piedla, who's on all fours. He's trying to
kick the puck backwards to Hensler. Instead, Gruba on the
near side wall spins it around to the farboards and
Whipple will whip it back behind the nets, centering pass
(01:43:39):
in front a chance, but knocked down Hendrickson as he
tried to wrap it around, hit from behind by Ensler.
Looked up at Ensler, got no apology for the Badger's
defenseman and no penalty called by the official. Six h
two to go in the third, Wisconsin leeds Minnesota six
to two back in a moment, This is badger hockey Fromlearfield.
(01:44:03):

Speaker 28 (01:44:58):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:45:07):
It's four to two Wisconsin with six h two to play,
not six to two with four to oh two to play.
It's four to two Wisconsin fleets Minnesota. Thank goodness Ian
parents here. There's some kind of a critical term for that,
isn't it. I don't know what. Yeah, yeah, I've got
all kinds of mixy uppy. What it is?
Speaker 5 (01:45:25):
I think it's called mixy uppy numberes padricks.
Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
When the face off of the defensive zone and get
it out to center, sent back in by Minnesota Morrisey,
though bumps it over near side botterrel nice catch angles
a pass far side Tassie slowed by Luke Mendelstadt, but
Tassie still possesses point pass for Dubinsky knocked away, but
it slies to Osbourne. Shot in front, went off the
stick of a Gopher and then bubbled by the pass
but who left it in front of the gold Mouth
(01:45:51):
Padricks couldn't get to it, but they still have possession
in the offensive zone. One of them, it was Botterrel
got spun around hog tied by John Middlestat. Badgers get
an extra attacker, delayed penalty on Minnesota. Osburn has possession
of the puck. Taps it off to Dubinski, now to
Bondrel tried to force it towards the net. Trickled through
the legs of a Gopher. Tulk got it off to
(01:46:12):
Dubinski again, delayed penalty. Badger's in the offensive zone looking
to add to their four to two lead. Osburn Dubinski
straight away back to Luke. Osburn. Badger's content just to
play keep away right now right wing. They go to
Morrissey at the half boards. It's Osburn no angle to shoots.
Gophers have their five skaters out there to lay penalty.
(01:46:32):
Low left talk backside right wide up in Morrissey sliding
safe to pass, but puck into midair that is bat
it out of midair and now whistle blows is the
Gophers control and Wisconsin will get a Cunea's power play.
Speaker 5 (01:46:45):
Took a long time to set up that back door
pass and to get that shot off, and then when
it becomes a jump ball and finally the whistle's bowling.
But I want to say that they were on the
delayed penalty about twenty five seconds. Yeah, so not only
does that kick down time on the clock, but it'll
now give them a power play with four forty eight
(01:47:06):
left instead of the five, something which could be detrimental.
Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
Luke Middlestat holding at fifteen twelve, Badgers get Acuna his
power play. Two for three so far tonight and now
ten for thirty on the season. Yeah, Middlestad just basically
grabbed bottle, rolled around his waist and spun them around
(01:47:33):
based off to the right of the pass wo four
to two Wisconsin advantage Orsey wins it back to deck.
Sheimer walks the line now left wing Morrissey Finley looking
for position to shoot dex Sheimer's got it. Finley imposition
to shoot, blast block, got it, back shot it high,
Oh of the defenseman is gimpy, wimple and now here's
(01:47:54):
Dechzheimer pass left wing Morrissey Orsey's got it. Hear the
half boards, left patient with a puck, and at thirty
five to go on the power play, Finley calls for it,
He's got it, changes places with dex Szeimer drops him
off at the right dot, shoots one club saved the
pass well, no rebound, and then Begley pop Tassie, who
was waiting hoping for a rebound. It didn't come.
Speaker 5 (01:48:15):
Yeah, it didn't come, and signon very wisely, even though
he got cross checked right across the chest, just backs
away from it because you can't afford to take anything
stupid like this. With four seventeen left ind period and
on a power play, you don't want to make it an.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
Even strength situation. For the last three four minutes, Gophers
only sixteen shots on goal tonight, just three here in
the third period. Badgers were up three to two after two,
but added a power play goal from Christian Fitzgerald. It's
four to two. Looking for another botterrel with it left
wing second unit out now for Wisconsin. Montgomery has replaced
(01:48:53):
Bruno e John a second power play unit. E John
one of the healthy scratches for the Badgers tonight. Take
the puck away and scoop it down Wisconsin's way, and
now the Badgers will take it from there. Montgomery pressured
by Mooney, and he'll peel back behind his net and
leave it off for Henslin. Games back to back games
(01:49:14):
with goals for Hensler and Montgomery. Montgomery waddles his way
into the offensive zone and Bottrell's shot one that went
off the left art of the goaltender and wide. Looked
like he got a piece of it and actually ricocheted
behind the net. Oh oh, and slippery back there. Yeah,
that pup cleared all the way down and Daniel Howser
out of his net for the Badgers. Took a digger,
but he appears to be okay. They'll be yelling, isis slippery?
(01:49:37):
Thirty seconds to go on the power play four to two,
Wisconsin le three to fifteen left, nice pass Morrissey two.
Finley tried to carry it to the net, got a
shot on goal, but fell over the pads of the
goaltender to pass well and the Gophers clear again. Eighteen
seconds to go on the Cunis power play for two Badgers.
Three minutes left in regulation. This would be some nice
(01:50:01):
icing on the cake. A lot of Chuck ahead man
to Finley too far, No, they'll wave off icing Finley
good hustle mooved it around to Fitzgerald, back to Finley
behind the net on his back end, try to refeat Fitzgerald,
who cut on the right wall, got knocked down in
the process. Gopher's back at full strength. So the badgerws
right now. Two for four on the power play, Minnesota
one for three, a four to two Wisconsin lead two
(01:50:23):
and a half minutes left.
Speaker 5 (01:50:24):
This top line was out there a long time on
the second part of the power play. I'm glad they
were able to get a line change when we went
back into the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:50:32):
Daring to Horbach. Apparently Jack was off side with two
twenty five to go. You're wondering why this is an
eight o'clock game on a Thursday night. If he hadn't
figured it out. It's televised by the Big Ten Network.
PTN actually is televising a record thirty one games this season.
There will be nine Thursday night games over seven different Thursdays.
(01:50:55):
Minnesota's feet Minnesota's featured on BTN eleven times this season.
Was Watson only four times out of one hundred and
sixty eight conference games. Total between the seven teams. BATN
is televising twenty five of the one hundred and sixty
eight conference games. Yep, two ten to go. Here in
(01:51:16):
the third Wisconsin leads for two icing on the Badgers,
and we'll pause ten seconds for station identification, ten seconds
for a legal idea. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger hockey.
Speaker 20 (01:51:26):
Badgers play here. This is your All Badgers Sports station,
thirteen to ten. Wiva Madison.
Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
It'll be crazy, it's gonna be great. Tork again in Madison.
Time out called by the Badgers Mike Hastings. We will
keep it right here. Badgers just ice the puck. They
have a two goal lead, but an offensive zone face
off from Minnesota. What's odd in this instance here is
that Hastings calls the time out the goaltender was still
(01:51:59):
in goal from an soda. Now, well, Bob Motsko, rethink
this and hey, let's empty the goal for an extra
attacker with an offensive zone face off, like Hastings just
gave us a chance to do that.
Speaker 5 (01:52:10):
Well, you also get into a situation where they're playing
into Hasting's hand. If they do pull a goaltender, he
has bottle roll out there.
Speaker 2 (01:52:18):
So that's just almost automatic exactly if they throw an
extra attacker out there. Ryan Botterol has three goals this season,
all empty net goals. You know, sometimes just have a
knack for things like that, like Owen Lindmark had a
knack for short handed goals. Right, very very much.
Speaker 5 (01:52:36):
So it's for whatever reason they seem to be able
to get open at the most unique times. And we
are right, the goaltender has been pulled and.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
Ryan Botterol is not on the ice. It's Tassy Morrissey
and Fitzgerald with sALS and Decksheimer, okay, because they just
pulled our bottle rolls line off. Yeah, face off of
the right of Houser, extra attacker for Minnesota. Badger's lead
by a pair with two oh seven to go, Morrissey
(01:53:06):
to take the draw instead of colk yep against Clark,
and Clark is warned by the linesman. Morrissey eleven out
of nineteen in the face off circle tonight, Gavin thirty
out of forty five against Alaska last weekend, sixty one
percent in the face off circle. This one, though, won
by the Gophers. Kruba dd D Middlesdad right point works
(01:53:29):
his way back left a blast stop by Houser, rebound
in mid air, knock to the ice, put in front
by Zeemer. No one there for the Gophers. Wisconsin battling
for it behind the nets. One fifty to go, extra
attacker for the Gophers. They're down two Minnesota. Oh, look out,
shoals almost tackled Mooney. Buck goes to the corner Lamb
reaching for it. He's got it. Pass out to the point.
(01:53:50):
Kruba faked to shot. Mooney now lost the handle, tries
to regain possession. Morrissey dragged him down. No pedalty. Mooney,
looking up at the reference, wanted to pedally. Then he
did hand pass it, but it actually went off of
Badger escape first. Now an empty net attempt as it
slipped it all the way down, just rolling wide. And
that's icing on Wisconsin. That was close.
Speaker 5 (01:54:12):
Yeah, close counts and horseshoes and hand grenades, not in
shots at the puck. That would be uh as close
as you can get without scoring. Unfortunately, what it does
is one twenty four left is bring the defense of
his own face off back into the Badger's zone. Yeah,
and Gavin Morrissey is out there to take another draw.
Speaker 2 (01:54:32):
And he is taking his time to get to the
face off circle, like really taking his time. Line's been
ready to drop it, Morrisey not ready. Morrisey just kicked
yous got warned. You'll get another chance. Fitzgerald is there
in case they need a second centerman to take a draw,
but Morrisey to take the face off. He wins it,
deck Szeimer up over one gopher but not out kick
(01:54:54):
free by Tasse, he lose buck Morrissey, he's got a two, Fitzgerald.
He's gotta score any Deanetter hat trick for Christian Fitzgerald,
the Badgers will beat the golfers tonight. Yimmy, what an
unselfish play by Morrissey. Fitzgerald, who hadn't had a two
goal game in his career until the Lindenwood series to
(01:55:17):
start this season, gets his first collegiate hat track and
a few hats come on the ice here at the
Cole Center.
Speaker 5 (01:55:24):
Well obviously people were playing attention.
Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
Good for him.
Speaker 5 (01:55:28):
Yeah, FITSI again the draws won by Morrissey. It's hard
work against the boards by Morrissey, and Fitzgerald just has
the speed to go by. As you mentioned, a very
unselfish play by Morrissey to turn.
Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Around and.
Speaker 5 (01:55:47):
Just dished the pasch off and I thought Fitzy was
gonna skate it all the way in, but no, he
was like just inside the blue line.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
When he shot it, yup, he had nobody in front
of him. Fitzgerald from Morrissey at eighteen forty five, an
empty neck goal in. The Badgers lead five to two,
So Minnesota will fold to two six and one, only
one win in its last eight games since opening the
season with a victory over Michigan Tech, while the Badgers
(01:56:13):
extend they're unbeaten streak to seven games. Still fifty five
seconds left a five to two Badgers lead. Fitzgerald for Morrissey,
empty net goal at eighteen forty five. Here's horback at
center Ice slides it ahead to deering wide right, he goes,
dumps it in Porbach after it digs it free for
(01:56:34):
Pietala thirty seven seconds to go. Well, everybody here at
the Coal Center that made it out tonight standing appreciating
what they see from the fourteenth ranked team in the country.
The Badgers lead five to two with twenty seconds to play.
Fitzgerald for Morrissey and Tassie at eighteen forty five, trying
(01:57:00):
now Here's Montgomery charging into the net, got a backhander
off stop by to Pasquo, and he covers with eight
point one seconds left. We're getting a crack. Information from
Paul capel Bianco of UW Athletic Brand Communications. The last
time the Badgers scored a hat trick against Minnesota a
(01:57:21):
man was October twenty fifth of nineteen eighty six. Steve
Tuttle did it at the Dane County Coliseum. No finer,
finer man in the world. Face off to the right
of the pass Quo won by the Badgers. Failing to Montgomery,
He'll lob it towards the net, brought down by the
gimpy whipple, and that's it. The Badgers knock off the
(01:57:43):
Golden Gophers five to two, five zero in two to
start the twenty twenty five twenty six season. Hat trick
from Christian Fitzgerald highlights this five to two victory over Minnesota.

I'm also brought to you by Alliant Energy, building a strong,

Posik and Ian Parrin's outscore the Gophers two to nothing
in the third period, Christian Fitzgerald a power play goal
at two nineteen from Simon Tassy and Ben deck Sheimer,
then an empty net goal for Fitzgerald at eighteen forty
(02:02:11):
five from Morrissey and Tassi that finished off the scoring.
Sixteen to three shots on goal in the third period
four Wisconsin forty three, sixteen for the game. Daniel Howser
only had to make fourteen saves to get the win.
Luca de Pasco stop thirty eight shots, but he took
the loss. Gophers now two six and one, Badgers five
(02:02:32):
to zero to two and win their Big ten opener
here tonight five the final score of five to two,
and Ian, you know we were talking about the last
time a Badger scored a hat trick against Minnesota. Steve
Tuttle did it October twenty fifth, nineteen eighty six, at
the Coliseum. The final score of that game was also
five to two.
Speaker 5 (02:02:53):
I can't say that I honestly remember it, but anytime
that Steve Tuttle gets a player of the you know,
gets a recognition like that, I would say the most
mild mannered, even keeled person I've ever met to play
in the Badger uniform, and yet will only be remembered
(02:03:13):
for his pro career for the unfortunate incident of with
Clint lighting with the goaltender Clinton Larchuk and causing havoc. Yeah, anyway,
no congratulations to our boy FITZI. He deserved everything he's
got tonight because all three of those goals were well earned.
(02:03:34):
Badgers win here tonight, five to two. As we start
our postgame showlet's name our three stars of the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:39):
Game, brought to you by ever Light Solar. I.
Speaker 5 (02:03:42):
Well, interestingly enough, we'll start from the bottom and make
our way up as much as people realize that there
was only fourteen saves made by Howser, I gave him
my number three star because there were times when Minnesota
had the pressure on and if he didn't make the
big save or make the least clearing play the Badgers
(02:04:02):
could have been in trouble. So yeah, he gave up
two goals on four and sixteen shots, but the fact
of the matter being is that he made.
Speaker 2 (02:04:10):
The big saves at the correct time. So I gave
him the number three star.
Speaker 5 (02:04:14):
Number two star I gave to our only plus two player,
Ben dex Sheimer, number his He comes up with two
assists in a five goal game, and not only that
he kind of anchors the power play at which we
saw scored two power play goals, but just the fact
(02:04:34):
that he never looked out of control tonight. He was
just always in the right place at the right time,
and to get those two assists at important time. Ben Dexzheimer,
and no surprise to anybody, our number one star had
two power play goals and one empty net goal for
a second hat trick of the year. And there's not
(02:04:54):
much more you can say about FITZI except that this
was a whale of a game for him.
Speaker 2 (02:04:58):
Yeah, Christian Fitzgerald say on the scores sheet, he took
three shots and he converted all three. That would be
that would be pretty good shooting. I would say, very
very good shooting percentage. So our three stars of the game,
brought to you by ever Light Solar, Save money, Save
the Planet. Start with ever Light Solar energizing performance of
the game. Up next Wisconsin Knox Off Minnesota five too.

From the Rail Transport Broadcast booth here at the Coles
Center at Madison, Wisconsin of five to win over Minnesota,
and the Big Ten Openers series finale is Saturday night,
six o'clock Central time, five point thirty pregame on the
Badgers Sports Network. All right, and who's the energizing performance
of the game?
Speaker 5 (02:08:45):
Energizing performance of the game came from one play when
the score was tied one to one, and as we
both know, in the second period, it was a free
for all as far as goaltender our goals were concerned,
but none more important than freshman Blake Montgomery, who did
it again. It's tied one one eleven thirteen of the
second period. All of a sudden, Blake Montgomery gets a
(02:09:07):
goal at the end of a power play for Minnesota,
and you get into a situation where Kukanen, who was
in the sin bin, came out and he and Zelenov
ended up getting the puck to Montgomery, and that.
Speaker 2 (02:09:21):
Just seemed to turn the tide.
Speaker 5 (02:09:23):
That was when, all of a sudden, the Badgers breathed
a big sigh of relief, and as we all know
that Hensler ended up scoring like what thirty seconds later
or thirty four seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:09:33):
Later or whatever it is. Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:09:35):
But Montgomery's goal was the spearhead. It's kind of like
the catalyst that got the Badgers going in the second period.
So for the second night in a row, he gets
a big goal to go ahead. And congratulations to Blake
Montgomery because I think you've done good things at motivating
your team.
Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
Yep. And second game in the row, Logan Hensler gets
credit for the game winning goal.
Speaker 5 (02:09:55):
Let's say this is like a bad opera or bad
it just keeps repeating and repeating.
Speaker 2 (02:10:02):
But I'll take for the Badgers. It was a good play. Yeah,
it's a good play. Good reviews. Wisconsin defeats Minnesota here tonight,
out shooting them forty three to sixteen of five. Two
victory energizing performance. Brought to you by Alliant Energy, Powering
Beyond for you scoreboard highlights, head coach Mike Hastings, and

Well, the Badgers couldn't beat the Gophers last year, but
in their first beating this season, they knock off Minnesota
five to two on home ice. The Badgers, now five
oh to two, their best seven game starts and starting
seven to zero in the two thousand and one season,
did the same in the seventy three seventy four campaign.
Only three other Division one men's college hockey games. Tonight,
(02:12:56):
Atlantic Hockey Holy Cross beats Sacred Heart five to two
Northeastern and went to Chestnut Hill and knocked off eleventh
ranked Boston College four to one, and fourth rank Penn State.
Rallied from two goals down in the first period and
beat seventeenth ranked Ohio State three to two in Columbus.
JJ Weebush the Verona Natives, scored his tenth goal of
(02:13:19):
the season for the Nitney Lions that leads the country.
Dane dowiec tied it with about ten minutes left in
the third, and then freshman Luke Mesa got what proved
to be the game winning goal. Kevin Raidler twenty eight
saves for Penn State Christopher Everley thirty two in a
losing effort for the Buckeyes. Penn State off to an
eight and one start, but All American Aiden Fink was
(02:13:42):
injured early in the third period of that game. Don't
know the extent of that injury. They have a lot
of talent in state college. But you lose an All
American and you're hoping that he's not out for a
long period of time because he's fun to watch.
Speaker 31 (02:13:56):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:13:56):
One of the things that.
Speaker 5 (02:13:58):
After all my years of coaching and being behind the bench,
I will say this is that when you use lose
an All Star like that, it's disruptive. But Penn State
is just loaded with stars from top to bottom. The
problem that you face is that, yeah, you're what eight
and one, nine and one or whatever. It is how
is the chemistry of that affecting everybody, because now everybody's
(02:14:22):
going to have to be playing with different people and
that might be a more significant injury than you could think.
Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
Sure. Also tomorrow night, the top rank Wisconsin women's hockey
team will open a two game series against third rank
Minnesota right next door at Labon Arena against six o'clock
tomorrow night, two o'clock on Saturday. The Badger women have
won ten straight games from the Golden Gophers. Well, the
Wisconsin men open a two game series against Minnesota here
(02:14:49):
tonight at the Cole Center, and they're victorious five to
two over the Golden Gophers. Head coach Mike Hastings kind
enough to join us here on the postgame show, My congratulations.
A good effort out shoot him forty three sixteen, a
couple of power play goals, and a hat trick from
Christian Fitzgerald. All around A pretty good night, wasn't it?
Speaker 4 (02:15:07):
Yeah, it was a good night.
Speaker 35 (02:15:10):
You and I had talked about what we didn't want
to do was go to the box early. That one
went right out the window. I was wondering, I didn't
even get a stick a gum in.
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
Did you say anything that Jack or did you just
put his head down and get away from you, right.
Speaker 35 (02:15:25):
You know what, our guys stepped up and pulled his
bacon out of the fire, which is what good teams
do and what good teammates do, and so you know what,
I just I liked that we you know, found a
way to score a power play goal. And then I
thought our third period was really good management by our group.
I thought they played selfless, possessed it, and when we
(02:15:48):
had an opportunity to extend the lead, they did it.
Speaker 4 (02:15:51):
And you know, we bent a little bit on the
six on five and didn't break.
Speaker 35 (02:15:55):
I thought seven really did a good job of just
managing our group out there, and it's a big win
for us.
Speaker 5 (02:16:03):
You know, I don't question your coaching ability very often,
but when you took botter All off when there was
an empty net, I was.
Speaker 2 (02:16:10):
Going, what is he thinking that?
Speaker 35 (02:16:12):
You know what, the guy he went out for was
thirteen and he scored, So I'm going to take that
one and say, hey, you know what, it's not bad.
So I'm sure I'm sure bots was looking at me.
You know, I don't think he turned around and stirred
me in the eyes, but I might have got a
little side out.
Speaker 2 (02:16:29):
How about Christian Fitzgerald. He had never had a two
goal game in his career and he gets one at
Lyndon Wood. So he had never had a hat trick collegiately,
and he gets one tonight and he has seven goals,
one more than he had all of last season. What's
gotten into Christian Fitzgerald?
Speaker 35 (02:16:43):
Oh fifty, Just he did a lot of self reflection
this summer and went to work and you know, he's
become a very selfless type human being. And it's great
to see guys that put in the work habit come
to fruish for him. And you know, you look at him,
(02:17:03):
you look at Tassie and two guys that you know
maybe didn't have a season that they wanted to have
last year, and it wasn't because of effort. It was
just they sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't.
And they didn't pout about it. They went right to
work and came back with a purpose. And you know
it's great when the game rewards you.
Speaker 2 (02:17:23):
Yeah, you talked about the power play too, and it's
oftentimes starts with your quarterback. Ben Deckzheimer was was shooting
the puck tonight wasn't.
Speaker 35 (02:17:30):
He You know what, that's a step for him and
you and I have talked about this multiple times, and
he gave me a look after the first one gets
tipped in, and you know, he shoots it well, and
it's it just makes it more difficult to defend when
the guy up top is delivering it. And I'm happy
for him too, because it's it's been a long road
(02:17:52):
for him on trying to work on that. And I
want to give Simon Tassi again an awful lot of
credit because he's in there getting beat up, uh, standing
in front of that net.
Speaker 1 (02:18:01):
And so it was.
Speaker 2 (02:18:03):
It was a good night for a power play close
to sixty minutes, wouldn't you say overall? Mike, Yes, yep.
Speaker 35 (02:18:08):
You know, we hit a couple of bumps in the road,
but not a lot of them. And you know, like
I told the guys, I thought they earned tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
And now we're gonna have to, you.
Speaker 35 (02:18:18):
Know, get some rest and refocus because we're gonna have
to go learn it on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:18:22):
Also, yeah, you got a day of practice too. Yep.
Speaker 4 (02:18:25):
You know, we'll see what we do with that.
Speaker 35 (02:18:27):
Everything's about energy on Saturday right now. So for us,
it's you know, we'll do our part on breaking things
down and those guys will do their part of getting
refreshed and bringing the energy on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:18:40):
I'd love to see the fans do their call to
it brings tonight.
Speaker 35 (02:18:43):
Yeah, come on out and see. And you know what,
this place is a special place when there's a lot
of people in it. And I want to say thank
you to the people that came tonight. And why don't
you grab a neighbor, grab a friend and bring him
to the game on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:18:56):
All right, Mike, thanks for your time. We'll see you soon. Thanks, guys,
sure that some of Mike Hastings, head coach of the Badgers,
after a five to two win over Minnesota here tonight.
I hope to hear from Christian Fitzgerald in just a bit.

Back here at the Cole Center in Madison, Wisconsin and
Minnesota opened Big Ten play here tonight at The Badgers
off to their best start through six games in twenty
five years, Minnesota off to its worst start since Bob
Motsko's first season as head coach of the Gophers back
in eighteen nineteen, Minnesota struggling to score. The Badgeries have
(02:21:42):
been putting the puck away. Here are the calls of
the game. Dex Sheimer back to Finley, right back to
dex Shimer, and the Badgers will set up no dex
Shimmer shoots great directed Fitsterly Couzier Bachers with a power
play goal and on top against Minnesota. We're bock to
couchan In, but he had no angle to the net.
(02:22:03):
Stopped and then waits for reinforcements. Gets it centery pass.
Montgomery pay scores all patient play by kuchin In, allowing
zeland Off to get on the ice, and that Montgomery
off the bench right to the net. Hammer's at home
second straight game with a goal for the big freshman
Blake Montgomery. Two to one Wisconsin. Couchanon's got it he
(02:22:25):
shoots one, It's block Montgomery had an out of stick.
Now here's Enzler Pishop block.
Speaker 4 (02:22:28):
Got it back.
Speaker 13 (02:22:29):
Hey scores oh.
Speaker 2 (02:22:30):
Hensler second effort. Hey Berry's won three one. Wisconsin leeds
Minnesota leading three two. Early third period, Morrisey coughed it up.
They can't clear good hold by dex Sheimer. Fitzgerald steps
in Hey scores Tassie right in front of the goaltender.
Simon may have gotten the piece of it. Nevertheless, a
power play goal is four to two Wisconsin. Fitzgerald is
(02:22:54):
there in case they need a second Centerman to take
a draw, but Morrissey to take the face off. He wins.
Dex Sheimer up over one gopher but not out kick
free by Tassey. Loose puck Morrissey, He's got a two, Fitzgerald,
He's gotta score in it, Leanetter, hat Trankfort Christian Fitzgerald.
The Badgers will beat the golfers tonight. And that's exactly
(02:23:15):
what they did tonight, winning five to two the final
score again going through the scoring scoreless after one period
of play. Christian Fitzgerald got the Badgers on the board
first at five twenty six of the second period of
power play goal from Ben dex Sheimer and Quinn Finley.
Minnesota tied it, though thirty seven seconds later Mason Mowe
an unassisted goal at six zh five. Badgers got the
(02:23:36):
lead back at eleven thirteen Blake montgomery Is second goal
of the season from Vassili's z Illanoff and Kyle Kuchanan,
and then forty three seconds after that, Logan Hensler at
eleven fifty six his second of the year from Kuchanan,
three to one Badgers power play goal for Brody Zeemer
at seventeen to oh eight, his fourth of the year
from Jimmy Clark and LJ. Mooney made it three to
(02:23:56):
two Wisconsin going into the third, and that's when Fitzgerald
got the power play goal at two nineteen to extend
the Badgers' lead to two. Fitzgerald sixth of the season,
deck Seimer with his second assist of the night, fourth
and two games, and then Fitzi finished off the hat
trick an empty net goal at eighteen forty five from
Morrissey and Tassi, and that was it. The Badgers forty
(02:24:19):
three shots on goal tonight compared to Minnesota's sixteen. The
Badgers committed four penalties eight minutes, Minnesota five for ten.
Gophers went one for three on the power play, the
Badgers two for four tonight. Also for the Golden Gophers,
Luke middlestat minus three this evening, Brody Lamb and LJ.
Mooney both had three shots on goalsz Emer and Moe
(02:24:42):
both scored for Minnesota. We'll do more of the stats
here in just a bit. But why don't we go
downstairs and hear from our number one star of the game,
Christian Fitzgerald is first collegiate hat trick Christian, Brian and
Ian upstairs. Hey, congratulations, not only on your individual effort,
but beating Minnesota always feels good. Done it.
Speaker 24 (02:25:01):
Yeah, thank you as a good game.
Speaker 36 (02:25:04):
Obviously you need to get it done again Saturday night here,
so but yeah, obviously you could get.
Speaker 24 (02:25:08):
The first one.
Speaker 2 (02:25:09):
Were you feeling it tonight? Christian.
Speaker 36 (02:25:12):
Honestly, fella gives a little bit of a slow start
for myself, But I thought as the game kind of
went on, kind of settled into it and got the
puck a little more and just try to put it
and put it on net at times, and it worked out.
Speaker 24 (02:25:25):
Obviously, the biggest thing is just getting to win.
Speaker 2 (02:25:28):
Yeah, for sure, you were three for three in your
shot attempts. That's pretty good percent.
Speaker 24 (02:25:32):
Yeah take that.
Speaker 2 (02:25:35):
It takes Ian a thousand and three shots to get three.
Speaker 5 (02:25:40):
Well, I just want to know, did you turn to
bottle roll and say, hey, how do you score those
empty neck goals?
Speaker 2 (02:25:46):
Could you show me what I'm supposed to do?
Speaker 36 (02:25:49):
I said to him, at the end on the bench
after I put that last one, and I said, I
think I stole your candy there, So.
Speaker 24 (02:25:57):
It was nice to him to let me get one.
Speaker 2 (02:25:59):
What is it about Tim he's celebrating as if he
scores when his teammates are actually the ones they score.
I don't know.
Speaker 36 (02:26:05):
Obviously we all get excited when the pot goes in
the net, so I'm just yeah, we're all excited.
Speaker 2 (02:26:10):
Yeah. So you know, Minnesota came to town. They were
struggling a little bit, but they're the Golden Gophers. So
I mean, you had and you had a short week too, Christian,
how were you able to kind of get everything together
and focus on just getting the job done here tonight? Yeah.
Speaker 36 (02:26:24):
I think we had like a good week, just kind
of stuck to our details and then kind of carried
over from our success last weekend kind of through practice
this week and then kind of build it up and
then obviously solid effort tonight. Thought they're still areous we
can improve upon, but overall, I thought we did really well.
Speaker 5 (02:26:44):
I've never played like a Thursday Saturday series when I
was in college.
Speaker 2 (02:26:50):
Do you think the day off is going to hurt
you or help you?
Speaker 24 (02:26:53):
I think it'll be good for us. I think it'll
kind of be similar to Junior a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:26:56):
So, yeah, that's true. It'll be good to have a.
Speaker 24 (02:26:59):
Day off in between, kind of reset and then get
back to work.
Speaker 5 (02:27:02):
Yeah, but you don't have a fourteen hour bus ride
in front of you to get to Prince Albert from
Calgary or whatever.
Speaker 2 (02:27:10):
So you're telling me Halloween night is not going to
distract the players college camp. I'm just kidding. Are you
have you decided what you're going to be for Halloween?
Speaker 36 (02:27:20):
No, honestly, right now, just focused on the game and
I haven't really thought too much about it.
Speaker 24 (02:27:25):
Costume.
Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
Okay, he's already thought about his. Hey, well it was
it's fun beating the gover. They got you a few
times last year. It'd be nice to finish them off
again here on Saturday, wouldn't it.
Speaker 24 (02:27:35):
Yeah, for sure, we definitely owe him a few all.
Speaker 2 (02:27:36):
Right, Hey, Christian, thanks for coming up.
Speaker 24 (02:27:38):
Congrats, Yeah, thank you, appreciate you guys.
Speaker 2 (02:27:40):
Yeah, Christian Fitzgeralder number one star of the game. Yeah,
FITZI was was pretty good tonight. Again, specifically about Minnesota's individually.
I mentioned Ziema and most scored luk at the pass
Quo stop thirty eight shots tonight, but he suffered the loss.
He's now one and two in his career against Wisconsin,
one and three on the season. Minnesota fell to two
six in one, zero to one, and the big ten.
(02:28:02):
As for the Badgers, you know I mentioned the power
plays in the penalties. Wisconsin won twenty eight of fifty
five face off Gavin Morrissey twelve of twenty one. Boy,
when Mike Hastings wants to win a face off late
in the game, he's throwing Morrissey out there more times
than not. Any Yeah, he is.
Speaker 5 (02:28:17):
And I'm not so sure that Gavin Morrissey, like Tulk,
wins a lot of them clean and doesn't win any
of the little scramble ones. But Morrissey, no matter what,
it always ends up in his feet or on his stick,
or he can push it away. Nobody gets a good
scoring opportunity or a clean win against Gavin Morrissey.
Speaker 2 (02:28:37):
Also, the Badgers blocked ten shots tonight. Joe Platachuk had
four of them, so he's putting his body on the line.
Christian Fitzgerald three goals tonight, first hat trick as a
Badger Logan Henzler and Blake Montgomery also scored to assist
for Ben deck Sheimer tonight three shots on goal. He
was plus two to assist for Kyle Kuchanan tonight, a
(02:28:58):
team best five on goal. Daniel Howser only had to
make fourteen saves, only three in the third period. It's okay,
you'll take the win. He's five oh and two. That's
Wisconsin's record through seven games, one to oh in the
Big Ten. Seven thousand and seven fans paid to watch
a game that took two hours and ten minutes to play.
The Badger's beat Minnesota five two, and we'll wrap things
(02:29:20):
up in a moment. This is Badger Hockey from Lairfield.
