women's hockey.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
The Minnesota Golden Gophers, who.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Come to town with a nine to one record, take
on the Wisconsin Badgers, who are ranked number one in
the country.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
They are ten and zero.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Minnesota is rated ninth in the countrys have won twenty
three games in a row. They have gone undefeated in
their last thirty seven games. They are at Lebond Arena
twenty seven zero to one in their last twenty eight games.
(02:17):
But the Minnesota Golden Gophers, according to the scouting people
that watch college hockey, coaches in college hockey say this
Minnesota team is better and deeper, and you'll hear Mark
talk about him in a couple of minutes on the
pregame show. They have one outstanding line, Aba Lindsay on
(02:41):
the left side along with Bella Finale and Abby Murphy.
That line alone has forty six points. And Abby Murphy
they much talked about college hockey player.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
She is feisty, she loves the game.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
She's an agitator, but she is also one of the
premier players in Collie hockey and people are gonna watch
her and it should be an exciting weekend here at
Lebon Arena. Mark Greenhall will be by momentarily, and of
course Greenee down in the locker room. He'll give some
(03:20):
thoughts that he will suggest in terms of goaltending. No surprise,
it's gonna be Aba McNaughton in goal. She's already ten
and zero on the year. Minnesota will counter with Hannah Clark.
She has a goals against average of one point three
six and she is seven and won in her career
(03:43):
so far. This year, we're back with Mark Johnson after

Speaker 1 (04:53):
This is Wisconsin Women's Hockey presented by Folk Park Plays.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Walking the pregame Old Paul Brown. But you have any
women's hockey coach Mark Johnson, Mark, it's one game at
a time. But yet the border Battle Minnesota. It seems
like everybody that's evolved, be it a fan, be it
a player, be it a coach, it just seems to
have a little more interest to it.
Speaker 11 (05:17):
Does most, Oh, it does.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I mean it's been that way since.
Speaker 12 (05:22):
I started on the women's side. I mean, I know
some of the teams I had in my early coaching
career outstanding talent levels, a lot of Olympic players, and.
Speaker 11 (05:30):
A tough place to play in and tough to host them.
Speaker 12 (05:33):
But yeah, it's been a great robbery for a long time.
And you say, the interest when we play each other,
whether it's in the regular season, in the playoffs, or
an NC tournament game seems to be real high, so
that that indicates that the fans want to come and
lets two good teams go at it, and that's what
they'll see tonight.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Yeah, quality players, and you get a couple of back
out of before that's injured. So that's obviously a plush
for you, especially in a big series like this one.
Speaker 11 (06:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (06:00):
Well, I think we're trending in a positive coruption. We
got a couple back, but then we lost a couple
more over the last weekend, but that's all part of it.
And so it's nice to have Rayla back in the
line and then Sims looks good. She's had a couple
of good days of practice, So I'm excited he had
them back in the lineup, and obviously, you know the
rest of pieces, hopefully they'll come back soon.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Brad Bross just became the fourth winningest coach in NCAA
women's college hockey history. You obviously lead in that kind
of thing traditionally in him. What do you see, what
if there is a normal style that he tries to
get out of his players.
Speaker 12 (06:39):
I think on the ice, you know he wants to
go to north That means once the puck change his
hands and they get it.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
They want to go over to the other end as
quick as.
Speaker 12 (06:47):
They can in their transition game with a group that
they have this year is really good. So some of
the things that we have to do as far as
managing pucker are certainly important. He's been able to do
that with a lot of talented players and over the
course at the time, it doesn't surprise me because they've
won a lot of hockey.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Games up there, nine in one this year. When you
look at the tape on them, what.
Speaker 11 (07:06):
Do you see? I see depth.
Speaker 12 (07:09):
You know, they're deeper than they were last year. You know,
they picked a couple of kids up in the transfer Florda.
I know one of them got hurt, but you know,
Jamie Nelson seems to be are on the league for
six or seven years, you know, play that men Cato
had a nice career and obviously had another year of
eligibility and they you know, went over to them. So
that adds depth to their roster. And so anytime you're deep,
(07:30):
you become difficult to play against.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
And that's why their record is what it is.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
And when you talk about the Minnesota Golden Gophers is
obviously one name that comes up all the time is
Abby Murphy. She's obviously having a great year. She's got
fourteen goals.
Speaker 12 (07:42):
Really yeah, I mean she's she's a difference maker. You know,
her skating abilities, she may be the best skater you know,
I guess maybe comparacter to KK, but they played different positions.
But wonderful skater, good hands and obviously it's got off
to a great start.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
You know, she's going to be one of our players,
going to be watching in.
Speaker 12 (08:00):
The Olympics in Italy coming up shortly in February. But yeah,
she's a tough player to play against, and you got
to be on our toes when she's on the ice
because she can get into places real quick.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Do you match lines? You try to match when she's
out there? Marker? Is that one strategy? It's maybe not
necessarily the only one, but is that one that's part
of it? Then the obviously being home with the last change.
Speaker 12 (08:22):
You know, if you can't get the right line against
her consistently, then you certainly want the defensive pair that
can play against her. So obviously KK knows you're well, Jungles.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Knows you're well. You know, you want to make sure
and when.
Speaker 12 (08:34):
She's on the ice, you've got personnel that can play
at her level.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
And I'll tell you, in a series like this, I
guess it would be every series, though special teams could
determined this and couldn't it.
Speaker 12 (08:43):
Yeah, I mean, little things really come into play, So, yeah,
can we own a bunch of ace offs night you
get pup possessions which you really are positive and then
obviously you got to kill penalties when you get some,
and if you get power play opportunities, that's the best
time to create scoring chances. And so those are becoming
the play over the next couple of days.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
In these two games, Mark, you've mentioned several times you'd
love to see your team play sixty minutes. I don't
know if you can say that with the injuries you've had.
But how close have you come in any game this
year to do that?
Speaker 12 (09:12):
I thought out in the game in Union, you know
we were able to do that. We lost a couple
of people and didn't have people in the lineup, but
you know, the people that did dress, I thought they
played hard, you know. And then you know our second
game against man Cato, you know, we slipped a little
bit in this second period of it's a good learning
opportunity for everybody involved in not only coaching staff but
(09:33):
the players that you can take some film and understanding
that you need to play at full sixty minutes and
now when you play against Minnesota, you a better play
full sixty minutes because there can be four or five
or six minutes in a game that can change it
real quick.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
And overall, what do you what do you see in
your club? What do you like in this team at
this point, I know it's only ten games in well,
I mean there's a lot of things to like.
Speaker 12 (09:55):
I like it a lot better than Layla's in the
lineup and Simms is in the lineup. It's little Potter
and Adele and not in the lineup. It gives us
a different look. So that gives somebody an opportunity, and
we've talked about it and we will continue to talk about.
In February, a bunch of these kids are going to
be gone, So getting those kids opportunities right now is
a real positive. And overall our play has been pretty consistent. Again,
(10:17):
you know, coaches are looking for perfection and certain.
Speaker 11 (10:19):
Things, and so tonight it's going to be.
Speaker 12 (10:21):
A lot of the low of things one managed to puck,
you know, to see what kind of face off percent
you have at the end of the night. And then
three and four are going to be the Palmy Kail
and power play. If we can win that battle, then
we have the chance to win it one more Mark
And I know you guys can't control that.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
We've talked about it. This is a very unusual year
with the Olympics and that kind of thing. It looks
like Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota maybe the top three teams
in the league. So you look at the series when
you play the Gophers and when you play Ohio State,
those series alone could very well determined who's up in
that top two to three spot. Yeah, I mean we're
(10:57):
going we do every year.
Speaker 12 (10:58):
We sort of beat each other up, and some teams
have a little more success than the others. And so
you know what we look like this first round is
around when we play you know, Minnesota and Ohio State.
You know, if we're healthy, you know, basically got their
best players. I'm going to get into you late January
in early February, and we played those teams again, We're
gonna look a little different.
Speaker 11 (11:18):
Both teams are going to look a little different.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
So, but if it still comes down to executing.
Speaker 12 (11:22):
Playing and doing what you need to do to win
win the game.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And so tonight and tomorrow it's about.
Speaker 12 (11:27):
Little things and can we do those little things.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
To help us have success? Good luck, coach, Thank you
have fun?

ten seventy. The game free never sounded so good.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Greenhall. I'm Paul Brown. Welcome to lebon Arena.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Game one of this two game WCCHA series between the
Golden Gophers of Minnesota and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
Greeney. This is all a classic and it's a lot
of fun.
Speaker 15 (13:02):
Yeah, my adrenaline's already pumping up pretty good right now.
It's always a bar burner between these two teams, regardless
of where you're playing it or what the records are.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
And the opening line is gonna be finale Murphy and
Lindsey for Minnesota. Badgers are going to counter with n right,
Scandal and Eden. Wisconsin's getting right to left and the
Gophers left or right, n right with it, and it's
played to the blowline of Minnesota. Dump deck down in
(13:32):
the corner on the far boards. Badgers try to pinch
with Eden along with Scandal to hold the attacking zone
back in behind that Minnesota will turn and out. They
come in the right wing and turning and dumping it
down in the corner. That was Abby Murphy went in
on Ava McNaughton, who put it away and stops the action.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
ABA this year is ten and zero.
Speaker 11 (13:54):
She has a.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Goals against average of zero point sixty three, fired five shutouts,
and her say percentage is better than ninety six percent.
Finale's in the face obstacle to the left side of
Ava McNaught It goes around over to Laila Edwards.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Nice to see her back.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
In the lineup. Yes, it is at around the far side.
Over on the far boards. Wisconsin will turn and play
it back down on the corner. Minnesota's Jordan Beck over
to pick it up. Kirsten Simms is also back in
the lineup for the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
That's the good news.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
The bad news is that Adela's Chapel Valley Vova is
out with an injury, and so is Laney Parter, and
those are two key components of the Badgers team. Along
the boards on the near side, over the try and
pick it up, Minnesota's out a couple of players, one
named Paul She's out three months after having surgery, and
(14:55):
Primorano is with the Canadian national team. So the Gophers
are a little shorthanded, but much deeper this season.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
They do have one line. That top line has scored
forty six goals. The next two lines combined have scored
forty five. So would you say shutting down the number
one line? Greene is a primo concern tonight.
Speaker 15 (15:18):
A key component if we're going to be victorious.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Yes, around on the far side over the wave of
Murphy worked it off the boards and at her side
of Minnesota, holding it in with shirts picked up by
Kirsten Simms. She fires it out of the break and
Wisconsin will move it up Ice Gorbatanco is out along
with hal and Sims on a forward line. Gophers turn
and they'll chip it out. They play it past Harvey,
(15:42):
who turns and skates back in her hurry to pick
it up.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
She stops behind it.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
That drew an ooh and anah from the crowd because
she stopped like bang right now and went the other way.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
And going back for to set it up. I love
watching her play around on the far side over to
control at Wisconsin, they hold it in.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Nice job there by. Hannah Helberson laid it back of
the net Minnesota will turn and come out with Sidney
Morrow on the far side, just outside the blueline. McCarthy
holds it in drive and the save into the glove
of Hannah Clark.
Speaker 15 (16:19):
I'll take that shot on net there by McCarthy and.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
We'll have that face off coming up to the right
side of Hannah.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
The Badger's still out on the forward line of Picard
along with Finley, McCarthy and Hannah Helberson back defensively.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
It is Harvey along with the Jungles. They're paired together.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Leyley Edwards is that there's a shot right on by
McCarthy and it's turned away. Good opportunity played around the
boards on the far side, Hannah Helberson back to the
point over the jungles. Two players from Minnesota be on
the net and try to go right out in front.
Badgers hold it in. Jungles will fire it down in
(17:01):
the corner. Back goes McCarthy along the far wing to
try to shuffle it to the point. Badgers try to
hold the zone just across the blue line. The Minnesota
tried to clear it. Badger's changing up and control to
get his Harvey at center Ice fired it around on
the far boards. It got it passed Graham Minnesota tried
(17:22):
to pick it up on the far side, with Jordan
held in by Eden. Eden back down along the wing
on the far side, Eden controlling the puck, plays it
along the far boards, back out on top over the
venusio with a drive. Blockers saved there and around the
boards on the far side. En right along with Leila
Edwards fired it kicked away and a good save by Clark.
(17:46):
Play along the boards on the near side, bnusio around
over to Leila Edwards back in behind the net, comes
around over the scandal back on the point, over the venusio,
around on the far side, over to Edwards Words comes
around to the left point by forty five remaining in
(18:46):
the first period. Our apologies, we did have a technical
issue with power, but apparently hopefully we'll keep our fingers
crossed and hopefully stay on the air. Here the Badger's
lead at one to nothing. I have no idea who
scored the goal.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Do you Greenny?
Speaker 15 (19:02):
Yeah, it was a goal by haul Up.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
There's a shot by Egan on.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
An assist by Harvey Ronald the far side, over to
Kirsten sim and it's going to be set up and
controlled just inside the blueline. Here sims back over to
Harvey and Edwards, losing control on the paths from Harvey,
and it goes all the way back down on the
Wisconsin zone and going back in. Wisconsin will start out
(19:28):
whether it is KK Harvey coming up by Ciner Hurry
comes in over.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
The line, works your way through shot in its block.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
What an individual effort that was totally outstanding by KK Harvey.
Literally end four minutes forty seven seconds remitting in the
first period of play. We have fifty four seconds remaining
on the penalty time. Wisconsin moving it up byce. They'll
flip it down to the corner of the near side,
chasing it as Aba Murphy. Scandal is out of the
(19:58):
ice and play comes back over on the boards on
the right side, goes back in behind Aba McNaughton with it.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
She'll leave it there for Jungles.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Jungles goes in behind the net, starts out for Wisconsin,
coming out of her own zone to the red line.
It's sent her eyes that it's going to be driven
down in the corner on the near side over the
Scandal scannal and the Badgers try to control it, but
Minnesota dumps it. The chase is on finale in behind
the Badger net for checking all alone, trying to hold
(20:30):
it there. Badgers turn and they come up ice, controlling
it down to thirties or six seconds remainting. On the
power play, there's a shot kicked out of the air
by Hannah Clark.
Speaker 15 (20:43):
Nice shot by Hall from the top of the left circle,
but glove cleanly by Clark. Yeah. Haul got our loan
goal about six forty two into the game, and I
was a shot from the low slot, five hole on
the ice and it was in the this by Harvey
on that one.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
And for Cassie Hall. It's the eleventh goal of the year.
KK Harvey with the assister twelfth of the year. Face
off coming up to the right side. Badgers shots at
this point twelve for Wisconsin, eight for Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Aba McNaughton along.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
On the board's near side over the McCarthy, Minnesota pinching
trying to hold his own. Badgers will look to chase
it down and we'll have an icing called against Wisconsin here.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
In the first period.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Three minutes and thirty two seconds remainting in the period,
we'll have a face off coming up back in the
Wisconsin's own.
Speaker 15 (21:39):
Glad to be back on the air.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
Paul, Yes it is Dad. We'll have that face off.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Coming up to the right side of Aba McNaughton down
along the boards on the far side, over to pick
it up. Hannah Halverson. Halverson with it, works it in
over the line. McCarthy trying to chase it down. Both
teams not at full strength, so you're getting a lot
of different u situations in terms of line combinations, and
(22:08):
maybe not the depth you'd normally see. Here's Harvey with it,
moving it back in behind the net, right out and
pro fuck came loose, back edwards with a drive. It's loose,
and the Badgers try to hold it in. KK Harvey.
That's enter Ice controlling the puck, circling back in the
Badger zone. Slides it out nice lead over to n right,
(22:29):
moving it in, shot it wide. She put that right
on her stick. From blue line to blue line, over
to Edwards. Here's Edwards moving it in. Oh, she passed
it back to the point. She could have pulled the
trigger on that one.
Speaker 15 (22:42):
I'd like to see it come off her stick more often.
She's gonna n right.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Tried to hold it in and hit her skate and
carried off the boards. Minnesota backup ice, they pull up
and they drive it toward the net. Can play is
going to be stopped with two twenty three remaining in
the first period.
Speaker 15 (22:59):
Yeah, Edward's almost unselfish to a fault there. I'd like
to see her go ahead and put that puck on
net on it's on her forehand like that. Now we'll
have a face off to Eva's left here or yeah,
to her.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Left face off coming up. Minnesota controls it.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Both teams at full strength here and they'll move it
right out in front, directed away from in front of
the gold There good traffic by the line of Lindsey,
Finale and Murphy, and the puck is loose at center ice.
More over to try and set it up Badgers, we'll
play it to the blue line and at their own
blue line. They'll set it up and come back and
(23:36):
right in over the line to Eden. Eden pulls up
in the circle, trying to take off a backhander, but
that was poked off her stick in the Minnesota regroups.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Abby Murphy with it comes through center ice.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Abby in control of the puck, got partially deflected off
her body and Wisconsin will turn and back. They come
up the near boards, in over the line, scan on
the fore check, trying to hold the Gophers in. Minnesota
plays it to the Badger line where Edwards turns and
plays it around over to Sims. Sims moving the pucket center.
(24:10):
Ice comes in over the line of the play, over
the Harvey Rve with it in the corner. Tried to
center it in front of the Net's going to be
cleared away by Graham. Minnesota back with Jordan angling it
off the boards, trying to pick it up in control,
skating up Ice coming in over the line and with
it is Dello Sandro and you cover up by Ava McNaughton,
(24:32):
who's called upon to make nine.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
Saves so far in this first period.
Speaker 15 (24:38):
Yeah, a nice steve there and covered up the pucks
an old rebound. There's always a gopher going to the
net for a rebound if it's there. So good control.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
And we'll have that face off coming up.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
We're down to one oh six remaining in the first
period of play, and going back over to try and
set it up along the boards on the near side,
coming back over in behind the net around on the
far side to control it and it's going to be
played towards center Ice, dumped down on the corner, back
going over to set it up as lightening Lightening with
(25:12):
it comes out of their own zone on the play
Ahead comes in over the line, controlling it down on
the corner of the right side as Kaiser went in
behind Crusher in front of the Badger net two players.
Booving was there, Kaiser was there, but the Badgers will
clear it out.
Speaker 15 (25:27):
Student body in the blue paint there.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Aymen and going back over to try and control it
and coming up Ice with it. It's going to be
played ahead, dumped down in the corner and going back
down deep in the zone. Back in behind Wisconsin around
the boards on the far side, over to Eden.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
They'll turn and come up Ice. On the break.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
Buck comes to the blue line, Minnesota over to set
it up and regroup. Both teams in possession of the
puck at center ice. Wisconsin gets control of it, they'll
move it around on the nearby coming over, and there's
the end of the first period of play. And your
thoughts on the first twenty minutes.
Speaker 15 (26:06):
Well, one thing I noticed, if you're getting pressured, you
don't want to stick handled. Yeah, this this outfit. The
Gophers will pressure you no matter what part of the
rink you're on, and no backhand passes, no forget passes.
Speaker 4 (26:18):

Welcome Back to Wisconsin Women's Hockey presented by oak Park Place.
Speaker 21 (29:34):
And Welcome Back inside Levon Arena here in Madison, Wisconsin.
This is the intermission report brought to you by Fields Madison,
your premier Luxurianto Group serving customers since nineteen seventy one.
My name is Aiden Michaels. It's going to be back
with you guys. The Badger's with a one nothing lead
after the first period. Guess who Cassie Hall getting another one.
She was the first Badger to reach double digits and
(29:56):
goals after last weekend, getting her tenth of the season.
She gets her eleventh of the season tonight by scoring
on her own rebound good saved by Clark, but then
on the rebound she wasn't able to keep it out
and Cassie All gets it going again. But it's not
that red hot second line that we've seen quite a
bit in this season. We talk about the line with Gorbatenko,
Scannel and Hall. There have been some changes with the
(30:16):
injury of Adela Chappo valle Vova getting injured on the
hand after blocking a shot late in the third period
in the second game against Minnesota State out of the
lineup tonight, So Maggie Scannal from playing on that second
line with Gorbutenko on Hall moves up to center the
first line with Eden and Enwright. The wha Ford of
the week who stays on that first line, and coming
(30:37):
into that second line is Kirsten Simms, who's returning after
suffering that ankle injury in the Icebreaker tournament championship game.
She had at least a point in every game of
the season up until that point. She gets back or
she gets back into the lineup today, and I'm not
gonna lie. I wasn't thrilled when I saw Maggie scannal
Is being broken away from Gorbatenko and Hall because of
(30:58):
how good that line has been. Say, if you're gonna
add one player to that second line in place of
Maggie Scannell, Kirsten Simms certainly is the player on defense.
It's great to see Laila Edwards back, obviously, had that
knee injury suffered a few games ago, missed some time,
but she is back on the ice, playing most of
her time with Caroline Harvey on the blue line, and
it's great to have her back, especially now considering Landy
(31:19):
Potters out after suffering an injury in the first game
of that Minnesota State series, and Leila Edwards has.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
Done quite the job.
Speaker 21 (31:27):
Vivian Jungles has played some time with Caroline Harvey and
Ava Murphy on that blue line. But so far the
Badgers have been holding down the fort but that's mostly
because of Ava mcnotton, who has had her busiest first
period of the season, you could say, facing nine shots,
making nine saves on those shots. Avian McNaughton has been
absolutely shut down. So is Hannah Clark, wha goaltender of
(31:49):
the week for Minnesota. The sophomore been making some quality saves,
but Avan mcnatton so far in the first period pretty
shut down. Paul Brown had a chance to talk to
Avian McNaughton after practice yesterday. We're going to take a
listen to that. This is the player profile segment, brought
to you by Goodman's Jewelers.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
Take a listen back.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
During the intermission. Paul Brown with Ava McNaughton. We got
to get those stats changed. Dava, you're listed with five shoutouts.
There's seven, but I know you don't really care about it,
but that that doesn't seem fair that you don't get
those other two as well.
Speaker 22 (32:22):
Yeah, definitely kind of an interesting copy out of the
rules there, but you know, it's part of part of
what the stats are and it's good to get hit
ryas in minutes and get her in the game, and
so I'm happy for.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Her to have the experience, but it also says what
about the Badgers as a team. Obviously, when the shutout,
when you had that many from your perspective, what does
it say.
Speaker 22 (32:46):
I think it really just shows that, you know, obviously
people know it as a as a powerhouse, but we're
also able to shut it down the d zone.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
And even without the shutouts are goals.
Speaker 22 (32:56):
Agat served very low and haven't knock up one let
in a powerful goal. Yeah, so I think that that
really just shows the character of our team and like Yues,
we have really strong offense or also.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
A lot atonomysm you like me in the workhorse you.
Speaker 22 (33:11):
Want to speak, I'd say yes, I think that's kind
of how I've gotten myself to my position today and
ont Temosa and different teams through through my journey. And
I think obviously skill is one thing, and you can
always kind of develop that, but you can't necessarily get
some of the.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Work hard or I think that's something I've.
Speaker 22 (33:30):
Always prided myself on, is you know, I'm always going
to compete for every puck, and you know I might
not be by this day percentage of wise and practice
or you need a game, but you know, I'm going
to compete until it's either you know, a whistle in
the net or in cover. So I think it's just
something I've always prided myself on.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Do you do anything different to AVA during the week
in terms of your always playing in that kind of thing.
Is you're conditioning a little different? Is there anything different
about what you do on a weekly basis?
Speaker 22 (33:59):
Yeah, I think it differs between you know, when you're
playing both games in the weekend versus when you're not,
or even between a goal and a player, just the
capacity that you need is different.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
So the players tend to do a lot more air.
Speaker 22 (34:10):
Goles, but I'll do a lot more like steady state,
so like longer duration, so you just kind of get
the legs burning, so you kind of get used to
your legs having that load on them, and you know,
it only needs to happen maybe once or twice a week,
depending on how practice goes, because oftentimes practice does take
care of a lot of the load for you. So yeah,
there's definitely differences between you.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Know, when you're playing both and when you're a player
versus and you're not playing. So I'm just curious how
much does the equipment for a goaltender on the women's
side way approximately, I'm going to guess twenty five pounds.
Speaker 22 (34:43):
I don't know just the gear itself, but I know
when I fly and it's all said and done without
any accessories or in anything in there, it's fifty pounds
fifty five, So you know, I'd say, I don't know.
Speaker 11 (34:54):
If you're around forty that's just crazy.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Yeah, but after a while you don't even notice that,
do you.
Speaker 20 (35:00):
No.
Speaker 22 (35:01):
No, I feel like it shocks me able to have
a pick up my bag and it like pulls me over.
But obviously I think it's I am still a pretty
tall golf under so I think the gears, you know,
just as you're top and they know it's so pretty.
Speaker 5 (35:13):
Big and you're getting a lot of experience. But if
you had to pick one or two things where I
want to get better, this is what I need to
improve on, what would it be?
Speaker 22 (35:22):
I'd say the main thing that I'm really working on
right now is being composed and confident on my feet.
I think that as the game gets faster and I
moved through the levels of you know, collegiate pro international hockey,
I think being able to trust your feet and be
on your feet for as many.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Shops as possible is a really big advantage.
Speaker 22 (35:41):
And I know that I'm capable of getting to plays
on my feet, but it's just you know, executing it
and having confidence that I'm fast enough to get there.
And so I think that's something that it seems like
a small change, but I think that it can have
loads of impact on my game in the future.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
You know what, go and people take it for granted,
they love watching you play on that kind of thing,
but this is really an unusual year for you and
your teammates when you're taking on the regular responsibilities of
going to school, playing hockey and that kind of thing,
and then there's this thing in the future that's looming
down there, the possibility of playing in the Olympics. What's
(36:21):
this whole experience, like, what's life going through this right now?
Speaker 22 (36:26):
It almost doesn't even feel real, Like the fact that
you know I'm on, you know, buying first spot on
the national team.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
You know, I just turned twenty one.
Speaker 22 (36:38):
It's never really something that I expected, but it was
always something I dreamed them as a kid. And obviously
you work for it, and you know, hopefully those dreams
become goals and the realities.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
But it's just kind of crazy to be to be
living that dream and to say that I'm you know,
a couple of cuts away from being on the national team.
Speaker 22 (36:56):
But it's definitely really difficult. It's not as converse, I think,
as people expect it to be. Like you said, there's
a lot of responsibilities and definitely it takes us till
some days more than another, but definitely, at the end
of the day, it's it's pretty just unreal.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
To be to be in the spot that I'm in,
and at the end of the day, I'm so grateful
to be in it. What don't we understand or what
don't we know about how difficult there are unusual it
is for you and the other teammates that are going
through the same thing.
Speaker 22 (37:26):
I think a lot of it is just the fact
that it's so different now with no centralization, and so
nobody really knows how.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
It's going to go or what to do or how
to manage it because it's so new to everybody.
Speaker 22 (37:38):
But for me, I think a lot of it is just,
you know, the day is always so busy, even without
you know, teamor saying the Olympics kind of looming, but
also being gone for a week. But I think it's
definitely it's difficult sometimes too. It's we all say it,
but it's really hard to be where your feet are sometimes,
just because there is so much.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Going on in your head.
Speaker 22 (37:58):
You're you know, you're worried about school, You're worried about
I'm worried about work, and you know what I'm gonna
do for a classes next semester if I make the
old big team, but what if I don't make the
old the team. And so there's just so many what
if they kind of circulate through your head that are
really hard to you know, kind of quiet them down
and be where your feet are. But obviously that's the
overarching theme this year, and just do your absolute best
(38:22):
to be where your feet are.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
So in addition to thinking about all those teams, now,
there's this team from up north that's coming in here
for the weekend in the border battle. Tell me about Minnesota.
What do you see from looking out and goal and.
Speaker 22 (38:34):
The goal for Yeah, I think we've we've seen them
obviously the Ohio, which is kind of, you know, the
biggest test they could have coming into this.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Week and so just you know, they obviously added some really.
Speaker 22 (38:46):
Good young talent, and then obviously they have so much
returning talent too, and then you know, you kind of
just got to be prepared for it.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
All.
Speaker 22 (38:55):
They have a pretty versatile line up, and you know,
each of these lines kind of has their role as
to do ours, and so I think it matches up
pretty well. So it'll be interesting to see, you know,
who does the little things better, because I think that's
what really prevails in the series like this, and so
you know, hopefully we can pop a couple in on their.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
Mistakes and hopefully we can minimize ours. They have this
gall over there that I'll call her feisty, but she's
also a pretty darn good hockey player in Abby Murphy.
You pay attention to her when she's out in the ice.
Speaker 22 (39:26):
Yeah, I think she's one of those players where you
have to I mean, obviously she's she's or in the
athlete she has for a reason. She's you know, she's
like an infamous player. You know, she's super fast, has
a great shot, great skill set, and obviously she's gonna
try and get under your skin. And personally, I think
I'm a pretty calm, pretty level headed person.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
But obviously I know that it's hard to stay that way.
Speaker 23 (39:48):
So obviously that's one of.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
The things that you have to think about. You know,
when she's in front of the night you you know,
she's probably gonna, you know, get in there, and you.
Speaker 22 (39:55):
Got to be pretty little headed about it. But yeah,
I definitely have to you wherever she is and you know,
if she's fine zone.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
She loves to do that.
Speaker 22 (40:03):
So but it is nice, you know, I get to
see her week out them every month too, so I
don't know, I have a little inside scoop on you know.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
What she's working on. And yeah, I was just going
to ask you what do you think she's like? And
she what you expected like.
Speaker 22 (40:16):
In terms of off the ice, Yeah, honestly, she's like
completely that in day I can completely understand like people say,
like you, she's the type of player you hate to
play against, what you want on your team.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
She's like the herd of ble offer.
Speaker 22 (40:28):
She's always off and always having a good time, So
completely different than what you see on the ice.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
And she's great teammate. Yeah, fun watching you play. Good luck,
Thank you so much.

One call that's all injured. Remember one call.
Speaker 5 (43:06):
That's all.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
Just underway in the second period with the Badgers leading
it one to nothing. Eden comes in over the blue
line along with scandals shot fired. Why of the goal
comes all the way around out to center ice on
the right side or near boards. Gorbatanko goes back for
Wisconsin circles behind that at the Badgers whistle and away
from the play.
Speaker 5 (43:31):
What did we have? They blew the whistle and stopped
the action.
Speaker 15 (43:36):
They're sending venusia O to the box.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
Venusio gets a penalty, the first one for the Badgers.
Not sure what they called her for, and that comes
at one oh one. The time of the penalty here
in roughing is the call and it comes up in
(43:58):
the second period. Minnesota's got eight power play goals in
thirty three attempts. As they go on the powerplay situation
and an opportunity to tie the game comes around to
the boards on the near side, played back down Wisconsin
turning and the penalty killing unit.
Speaker 5 (44:17):
They've been perfect on the year.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
They are in a situation where they've not allowed a
power play goal when opponents thirty one times have been
on the power player. That is super impressive. Yeah and
coming up ice. Minnesota's setting it up to come through neutral.
They come in over the blueline, moving it in. Shot
hit the pipe and came out. Boy, was that a
(44:42):
shot right there by Minnesota with an opportunity to tie
the game. I don't know if it touched Dave at all,
but it hit the crossbar and christ where it drops
it back to the point Moral with a drive. She's
the one that fired it. That hit the pipe and
went out of a hard shot down in the corner,
picked up by Kaiser. Back to the point in the
past and there's a drive from a bad angle. Jungles
(45:06):
blocks that Badger playing without a stick in front.
Speaker 5 (45:09):
Of the net. We have Eden and uh or that
look Murphy.
Speaker 15 (45:14):
Murphy gonna be sat down, I believe.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
So it's gonna be a five on three situation now
man one minute after the last penalty two to one
the time of the penalty or one minute later, the
Badgers are now going to be shorthanded five on three.
That will be for one minute and one second.
Speaker 15 (45:40):
What did he get Murphy for? What was the call?
Did you see that?
Speaker 4 (45:44):
And we'll have that face off coming up? Possibly interference
shots on goal are twelve to nine so the Badgers
are going to be five on three. They no, they've
got five on four up on the board. Venusios Peneling.
(46:06):
There's two in the box. But they've only they've only
got Okay, they matched them, they matched them up. We okay,
they matched them up. That's what we got going here,
coming up and controlling get don just outside the blue line,
played back down in the corner, trying to set it
(46:26):
up and controlling get moving it around.
Speaker 5 (46:29):
That's finale. We're out back out on top.
Speaker 4 (46:32):
We've got a situation where Minnesota has the advantage, but
for thirty two seconds and then it should equal out
here and back Badgers in the penalty kill at center Ice.
Minnesota comes in over the line. Look out, here's moving
off in the pass. They try to come back over
to the lighting and and the Badger's forced to play
(46:55):
and they'll jump. A nice play by Enright, lot of
hustle from blue line to blue line to force that
all the way back down of the Gopher zone. Four
seconds remaining coming up, Ice, controlling it, coming back in
over the line, trying to move it around down in
the corner, going in behind the napp Adam. Minnesota is
gonna lose control of the puck and the Badgers will
(47:17):
turn and they're coming back out of the penalty box.
So both teams are back at full strength. Nobody converts
on the power play. Adam goes all the way back
down to the Badgers zone and we'll have an icing called.
Speaker 5 (47:29):
With sixteen thirty eight remaining in the period.
Speaker 15 (47:34):
Yeah, pardon me, I didn't catch that they were matching
them up when Murphy got a penalty there there was
a Gopher that was had an infraction as well, Murphy
for roughing and the Gopher for I'm not sure what,
but yeah, okay, Nelson for holding. I'm glad we came
out unskithed on the penalty kill.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
There, face off coming up to the left side, back
in the zone of Clark, the goaltender to her left
in the Gopher zone. Badgers try to set it up
down in the corner. Off on the play, Gorbatanco down
deep in the zone in the corner, trying to control
it around on the far side. Sixteen twenty one remaining
(48:17):
in the period, Badgers laid it one to nothing. Dad
Wisconsin comes back in over the line. Here's Harvey back
to Gorbatanco shot heavy a pipe, yet around on the
far side are coming up I ice controlling at Minnesota.
So both teams have hit a couple of pipes here
in this game, Dad, Wisconsin coming back out of their
(48:37):
own zone. We'll play it back down in the corner,
coming in over the line. Here's Sims around Ann Harvey
with a drive and a nice save cutting down the
angle by Hannah Clark.
Speaker 15 (48:49):
Yeah, she came out and took the net away from
Harvey there, good shot on Nett, good save.
Speaker 4 (48:57):
Four penalties have been called in the game so far.
They matched up two of them and two other minor penalties.
Neither club has converted on the power play. Badger's at
full strength and Cassie Hall is out on the ice
for Wisconsin. Her pardon me Picard is out along with
(49:18):
Halverson and McCarthy again doing a little shifting now and
then coming back coming back in over the line, there's
a shot avon her pans stuck it in her glove
and stops the action with fifteen twenty one remain in.
Speaker 15 (49:34):
Yeah, they're gonna face it off to Eva's right here
in our own end. See if we can win to draw.
Speaker 4 (49:43):
And Minnesota nine and one on the year. They're only
lost to the Buckeyes of Ohio State. Yeah, looks like
the top three teams in the league are definitely Minnesota,
Ohio State and Wisconsin and a familiar huh yep and.
Speaker 5 (50:01):
Duluth in fourth currently.
Speaker 15 (50:05):
Can't take them lightly.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
Face off down along and the shot stick saved by
McNaughton around of the far side, played back down on
the corner Scannal who they moved up to center on
that number one line because Adela Chapel Valley Bova is
out of the lineup with an injury, so is Potter. Defensively,
those two losses are key for the Badgers are out
(50:29):
of the far side, but it is good to see
Edwards and Sims back in the lineup, and both of
them seem to be skating pretty effectively coming back in
over the line. Here's En right around over the Scannal,
turning with a drive that's block. Badgers look to hold
the zone and the Minnesota brings it out, pop checked
away by Edwards and dump back down on the corner
(50:51):
on the far side. We'll have an icing call against
the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Speaker 15 (50:56):
Nice to see Edwards use that long reach on the
pop check there at the blue.
Speaker 4 (51:00):
She's wearing a knee brace. You see that, just probably
for a little protection.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
Huh.
Speaker 15 (51:06):
Yeah, yeah, little reinforcement while she rehabs fully.
Speaker 5 (51:10):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
Cassie hauled in the face off circle. Cassie's got the
goal of the game or eleventh of the year here
five on five gold in the first period. Eden Nan
Harvey got assists on the goal. There's a shot when
wad of the goal. Badger's at the right point hold
it in with Jungles angling it along the boards and
nearer side Wisconsin trying to bring it out of the zone.
(51:32):
This could be one of those games where maybe three
goals would be enough. Here's Gorbatanco moving it in risk shot.
Oh and it deflected the way and Gorbatanco pulled the trigger.
Tried to go low toward the feet on that, which
is not a bad thought. Nope, don't always shoot the puck, Hye,
(51:53):
go low.
Speaker 15 (51:53):
Clark made the save and then it trickled out from
her for a moment. She wasn't quite sure where it
was when it went to her left a bubble. It
actually hit the pipe in there, Yeah, stayed Elan. Yeah,
she got a break there. Nice shot by Griver Tinkle.
Speaker 5 (52:07):
And we've got.
Speaker 4 (52:09):
Time out being whistled here, We're going to take a break.

Welcome back to Wisconsin Women's hockey presents off, come up to.
Speaker 4 (53:33):
The left side, back in the Minnesota zone, all along
with Simson Gorbatanko out on the ice. Harvey and Edward's
back defensively and Ava will cover up in front of
the net and we'll have a face off coming.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
Up there Halloween night.
Speaker 4 (53:49):
Maybe a reason why there are some empty seats here
at Lebon Arena. Also, women's volleyball is over at the
field House. I saw people waiting outside the field house
this afternoon about three point thirty four o'clock. They were
sitting in lawn chairs. Are out of the far side
trying to control it. Dump back down of the corner.
(54:11):
Badger Men won in hockey against the golfers last night.
Those two teams will play tomorrow night. And moving it in,
there's a shot, block comes back over the Harvey back
out on top. Here's Edwards with a drive and that
went through and wide. Minnesota setting it up and coming
over to pick it up. Badgers come back in over
the line, controlling it right side to give it to Harvey,
(54:33):
give and.
Speaker 5 (54:33):
Go behind her back on the pass in front shutting.
Oh what a save man.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
Unbelievable by Hannah Clark coming back through and an open
net shot was turned away, came through the Oh yeah, boy,
oh boy.
Speaker 5 (54:53):
That was a beauty right there.
Speaker 15 (54:55):
Heck of a play, heck of a save.
Speaker 5 (54:58):
Man, oh Man Badger Men's game.
Speaker 4 (55:01):
Of course, tomorrow night he'll be on WIBA with Ian
Parrin and Brian Posik.
Speaker 5 (55:08):
Hopefully they can sweep the Gopher Men.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
That'd be nice played back down on the corner on
the left side, going back over to set it up
in control. It's going to be played in the Minnesota zone.
Comes just outside the blue line, Wisconsin regrouping. As you
analyze this game so far, what do you see.
Speaker 15 (55:27):
Well, you can't send any weak passes to the middle.
They're gonna get picked off. You know, everything's contested.
Speaker 5 (55:33):
That looked offside, and yes it was.
Speaker 15 (55:36):
You're correct, Paul, But yeah, you just we've tried a
couple of you know, back or whether even if their
forehand passes softly to the middle of the zone and
they're gonna get picked off and off they go the
other way. So if you don't have any other options,
get it to the net, get it in deep.
Speaker 4 (55:50):
Now we were off the air unfortunately for a short
period of time, but we have not mentioned Abby Murphy
much in this game.
Speaker 15 (55:57):
No, she's out there and she's got a couple shots,
but yeah, she isn't as strong a force as she's
been in the past.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
Well, they got the line of scandal along with enright
and Eden on her. Yeah, asked Mark about matching up. Yeah,
that line against their number one unit because they have
forty six points.
Speaker 5 (56:15):
That's more than the next two lines have combined.
Speaker 15 (56:18):
Yeah, very potent first line.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
You want to keep strong defensive pairings out against that
group as well. Here's Eden coming over to try and
pick it up. Aiden down on the corner with a
drive and that went into the glove of Hannah Hanson.
Speaker 15 (56:32):
It was a kind of a low angle shot, but
I'll take that from there. You know, if you don't score,
there's potential rebounds as people are going to the net
down the slot. Good shot by Eden.
Speaker 4 (56:42):
Hannah Clark is a left handed catcher with her glove.
She's out of Oshawa, Ontario, one point three to six
goals against average good goaltender set to get up in
controlled Harvey with it with a shot right on.
Speaker 5 (56:58):
KK Harvey.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
It a great year already total of seventeen points on
the air. She's already more than one hundred and fifty
points in that zone defensively, that's a new record, surpassing
the one of Sis Paulson, who used to play for
the Badgers and worked with the hockey program for a
number of years and now is up in Minnesota with the.
Speaker 15 (57:21):
Professional team in Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
Frost going back over, we'll have it an icing called
and another face off coming up back in the zone
of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Badgers have next weekend off
and they'll go on the road to Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
Yeah there, and Thanksgiving, they're in a holiday tournament down
(57:44):
in Nashville, Tennessee, and then they take on the Buckeyes
of Ohio State in Columbus.
Speaker 15 (57:54):
That'll be a dandy, boy.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
That's a wonderful rink down there around on the far side,
over the Kka Harvey with a drive and down on
both knees.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
It's Hannah cloone booth. If playing in a phone booth
and you have to get up to the press box,
it's like a little cattle. How would you describe it.
It's like with a almost like with a ladder crawling
up into this little box.
Speaker 15 (58:22):
It's an adventure, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
Kind of reminds me of the old days at the
Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. There, you couldn't even stand up
in the Broadmoor. Your head had hit the ceiling face
off coming up here to the left side of Hannah Clark.
Back down on the zone of Minnesota, it's one nothing
shots on goaler twenty two to eleven, Badgers two to one,
(58:46):
but only a one to nothing lead on Cassie Hall's
eleventh goal of the ear matching her number and plake
and whistles stop in front of the Minnesota net there.
Speaker 15 (58:55):
It's good to see Sims back in the lineup.
Speaker 5 (58:57):
Is yeah, you know, he looks full strength.
Speaker 15 (58:59):
She does. She starting to play with a little more
confidence as each shift goes there. She generated a nice
shot on goal there from the right dot.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Out is Lany Potter, one of their better defensemen, and
also out is Adela Shappy Valley Vova. I'm not sure
on the length of time that they're going.
Speaker 5 (59:19):
To be out of the lineup.
Speaker 15 (59:22):
Hope they get healthy soon.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
And comes back to the point. It's all part of
the game, as coaches would say. But boy, when you
come in bunches with four that's tough. Badgers pass it
out of the zone. The Minnesota chips it ahead, but
back goes Venusio. Venusio trying to play it out of
the zone, Minnesota trying to hold it in. You don't
want to make many mistakes in this game because both
(59:47):
clubs are very capable of capitalizing on it, and they
move it in. Try to go backdoor on that pass
to Rono the far side. Gophers look to try and
set it up. There's a shot went in behind far boards,
controlled Sandro around on the far side, back to run
on the play. Wisconsin trying to bring it all. Minnesota
(01:00:09):
holds it in. Gophers with pressure.
Speaker 5 (01:00:12):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
They tried to pass it right out in front. Della
Sandro had an open net there and the pass went
behind her. Couldn't get it on her stick break for
the Badgers. Eleven h seven, Ory mening in the second period.
Wisconsin turns and they come out toward neutralized back ended
back in.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Hey, the ice is pretty tilted one way here.
Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
Yea.
Speaker 5 (01:00:35):
We don't like the tilt here. It looks like it's
downhill toward the Wisconsin net.
Speaker 15 (01:00:40):
Let's lift up that end and get it the other way.
Speaker 5 (01:00:42):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (01:00:44):
Nearing the halfway mark of the second period here with
a one to nothing game.
Speaker 11 (01:00:52):
Yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
We'll have the face off coming up now to the
right side on Wisconsin. With that one to nothing lead.
Four penalties called in the game. Mark talked about one
of the keys in this game is face offs. Yeah,
and who's going to get the most face off.
Speaker 15 (01:01:10):
Right and engage right away whether they win it or
we do, get on that puck.
Speaker 5 (01:01:14):
And around on the far side, coming around over to
pick it up.
Speaker 4 (01:01:18):
In one game, Shappie Vadovova had twenty one face off wins.
There's a drive by n right around over to Murphy
with a drive that's partially block Murphy along the sidewall,
turning and clearing it. It comes back out over the
center rights over the Vivian Jungles. Jungles angled it off
the boards on the play to N right in front
(01:01:39):
of the Badger bench. Minnesota looking to try and set
it up, and the Gophers will bring it up ice
on the far side. They'll dump it back down in
the corner, Ava Murphy chasing it there, tied up along
the wall ten thirteen remitting in the period. Gophers go
back in their own zone and coming up to control it.
The Gophers looking to come out of their own zone.
(01:02:00):
With Humphrey Humphrey off on the play, They drive it
in wide of Ava McNaughton behind the net, moving setting
it up on the far side. She circles and carries
it out and fired it toward the goal in Ava
and traffic made the save.
Speaker 15 (01:02:14):
A lot of traffic is right Paul, with Kaiser and
Nelson right in front of the net and the blue paint.
Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
Practically and we'll take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger
Women's Hockey.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):

Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
We're back here at Lebon Arena along with Mark Greenhall.
I'm Paul Brown.
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
Where the game has won nothing Wisconsin The only goal
of the game came six forty two of the first period,
five on five goals scored by the Wisconsin Badgers. Has
Kake Harvey got her twelfth assister of the year, Eden
got her eleventh, and Cassie Hall got her eleventh goal
(01:03:29):
of the year. And Minnesota around their coach Brad Fross.
By the way, he now has won enough games where
he is fourth on the all time list in women's hockey.
Speaker 5 (01:03:42):
Yeah, he's done a nice job at Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (01:03:45):
He sure has. He's consistently put a good team on
the ice year in year out for a long period
of time.
Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
Now, so nine minutes fifty two seconds remaining here in
the second period of play.
Speaker 5 (01:04:00):
It's nice to see our engineer here in the booth.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
Yeah. No, David sitting at home quietly relaxing with his
wife and all of.
Speaker 5 (01:04:08):
A sudden, get in here, buddy. He came in too,
checking things out. We appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
David McCann does all of the engineering and the Badger
broadcast with mapped and football and basketball and all kinds
of stuff coaches shows. He's the guy that keeps everybody.
Speaker 5 (01:04:29):
On the air.
Speaker 15 (01:04:29):
Yeah, you want to keep you don't keep David Half.
Speaker 4 (01:04:33):
Yeah, thanks for coming in, mister McCanny, checking things out,
face off, coming up just outside the blue line. Nine
minutes thirty two seconds, remitting in the second period of play.
Speaker 5 (01:04:49):
Sure feel a lot better with about two or three
up on the board here, I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Paul, back in behind, Wisconsin turning, trying to bring it
out along the boards on the near side, back to
the point, over to Humphrey with a drive.
Speaker 5 (01:05:02):
Oh right there.
Speaker 4 (01:05:03):
Ava McNaughton was down and Minnesota couldn't get that rebound
played back of the net, Wisconsin turning, trying to come
out of their own zone. Badgers have won the last
seven games against the Gophers of Minnesota. Around back in
behind the net and they turn and try to bring
it right out in front. I'm sure that's something that
(01:05:24):
sticks in the crawl a little.
Speaker 5 (01:05:25):
Bit of the Gophers.
Speaker 15 (01:05:26):
Yea, you know they are talking about that.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
Yeah, coming up and controlling it and the puck comes
in over the line. Here's Cassie Hall with a drive
right on. And you know what was kind of cool
last year when you guys were down on the ice celebrating.
Speaker 5 (01:05:42):
When they won their eighth national title. Yeah, you look
around and you do.
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
You kind of looked and you go, you know what, Minnesota,
they've got six of them. Yeah, the Badgers have eight,
and you know what, they're winning their eighth in the
home of the Minnesota Gophers at Ritter Arena.
Speaker 15 (01:06:00):
That kind of gave it a little extra didn't Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
Just just kind of a nice little feeling.
Speaker 11 (01:06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:06:07):
Yeah, scandal in the face off circle to draw back
to the point over the Jungles. She played her high
school hockey at Adyna, Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
Yeah, moving it up ice. In fact, she was the
best player player of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
In Minnesota at he Dina when they won the state championship.
Corondo the far side over to try and control it,
back over to the point and Minnesota setting it up
in the Badger zone.
Speaker 5 (01:06:29):
With eight twenty four remainting in the period.
Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
And back on the wing, Minnesota regrouping both teams full strength.
Shot blocked in front by Harvey and Jungles back over
to pick it up. Jungles with it, angles it around
the boards, gives it off over on the plate of
Harvey looking one way, trying to find the outlet on
the pass. There's a shot almost tipped right in front
(01:06:54):
by Finale corondo the far side, Minnesota back door with
a shot coronal the far boards over to try and
control it. They try to center it Minnesota with pressure
and then they get it back. Would Badgers do The
Badgers come back in their own zone and they're gonna
cover it and the face off coming up.
Speaker 15 (01:07:14):
Yeah, you know you said Jungles was the best player
in high school when she played in the DNA. She's
one of our best players. She does it all under
the freighter, you know, real smart player, smooth skater, does
the right thing with a puck, has a nice shot,
real complete.
Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
Hannah Halverson is also out of a dinam Minnesota for
the Badgers, number eight.
Speaker 15 (01:07:33):
It is a hockey hotbed.
Speaker 5 (01:07:35):
Hi aady Dinah. The Hornets, Yeah, you know, you know
what they used to call them, the caky eaters.
Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
I do remember that around on the far side, controlling
it coming up, Ice coming in over the.
Speaker 5 (01:07:46):
Line and Laila with a drive popped out in.
Speaker 15 (01:07:50):
Front, which somebody could have ram that rebound home.
Speaker 4 (01:07:52):
Man, it's going to be played all the way back
down and the Badgers will go back to pick it
up coming around on the far boards and Wisconsin chasing
it up. Ice picked up chasing it down and trying
to shuffle it off over to Picard with it behind
the at looking for the outlet right in front peaking Hogen, and.
Speaker 5 (01:08:12):
That drive is steered away as peaking Hogen.
Speaker 15 (01:08:15):
I like her in there right around the net.
Speaker 5 (01:08:17):
Five ten freshmen out of Saint Catharines, Ontario.
Speaker 15 (01:08:23):
Yeah, she gives it her all, man, She's got one
speed and that's hard.
Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
You know the reason they were called the cake eaters,
don't you? A lot of the teams in Minnesota, Well you,
Dinah is a prosperous suburb in the Twin Cities, and
in terms of hockey, sometimes they'd have fifty sixty seventy
players come out for their for their team and that
kind of thing. And those small towns in Minnesota like
Roso and Roar Road, right, they go, we want to
(01:08:50):
go down to the Twin Cities and knock off those
cake eaters.
Speaker 15 (01:08:53):
Yeah, there you go. Yep.
Speaker 5 (01:08:55):
That's uh.
Speaker 15 (01:08:56):
That's where Craig Norwich was fromm Yeah, he played it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
He was one of those cake eaters too.
Speaker 15 (01:09:03):
Yeah. Willard Eikela was the long standing high school for
many Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
Six point fifty one remaining. That's our history.
Speaker 15 (01:09:11):
Lesson for the night. There you go, always something here.
Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
Paul laid up ice ConTroll to get in the neutral
zone and Gorbatanko over to try and set it up,
and it's going to be played. Here's Jungles with a
drive and Sims holds it in down in the corner.
We've gone to the six thirty mark of the second
period in a one to nothing game. Badgers with a
backhander picked out of the air again by Hannah Clark.
Speaker 5 (01:09:39):
Yeah, we'll have another face off coming up.
Speaker 15 (01:09:41):
Just keep getting that puck to the net. Somebody will
bang in a rebound.
Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
Thirty to eighteen in shots in the game so far,
Badgers with the edge. Badgers in total shots, they're averaging
about forty six a game. Minnesota's averaging near forty. Dad,
we'll have the face off coming up. Scandal draws it
backwards Badgers in the zone of the Gophers, but they
(01:10:07):
turn and they'll bang it out with finale and Wisconsin
looks to play it back down.
Speaker 5 (01:10:12):
In the corner.
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
We're down to six thirteen remaining in the second period.
Wisconsin Eden trying to get away from a check to
pick up the puck, but it's going to be played
on the near board's left side, and Wisconsin goes back
the Leylea Edwards with it works the wing on the
near side. Minnesota looking to hold it in. They bring
(01:10:34):
it around the boards to the near wing, back out
on top both team's full strength. There was a shot
that was taken by Jordan cleared by Wisconsin. Minnesota intercepts
a cent our eyes. They play it to the Badger line.
Here's Abby Murphy with a backhand or high and.
Speaker 5 (01:10:50):
Wide of the goal.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
It's one of the few times we mentioned her name
here tonight so far, but she's got fourteen goals already
on the ear in ten games. Played back down in
the corner and Leila Edwards and Booming go behind the
net Ronald the far side. Wisconsin will turn and they
lift it into the Gopher bench.
Speaker 15 (01:11:10):
You know one thing, Murphy, I haven't seen her in
the penalty box. She's kind of cleaned up her game.
You know she used to, Abby, Yeah, she used to
get in a few. Just when you say that now
post whistle, you know, you know you can say that.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
But when she gets feisty and commits a penalty, that
gives you the advantage, right right, We'll take it. Sometimes
those penalties, stay out of the box, stay disciplined in
a game like this that can cost you big time.
Speaker 5 (01:11:34):
You're right, and it's going to be played back in
and covering up.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
And we're down to five minutes and ten seconds remitting
in the period, and we'll have another face off coming up.
Same two teams will play tomorrow afternoon game time at two.
Speaker 5 (01:11:53):
O'clock here at Lebon.
Speaker 4 (01:11:58):
Badgers are twenty seven oho to one in their last
twenty eight games here at Lebon overall. Tonight's if they win,
it would be their two hundredth win at Lebon against
twenty one losses in twelve ties and McCarthy with a
drive Badgers hold it in and a shot by per
Card covering up peganag and Nan whistle and.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
Play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 15 (01:12:23):
As a nice little series there. Pericard won the draw.
We got the puck out to the point we got
it to the net, couple of shots on net, two
people going to the net. Hard I like it.
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Five minutes two seconds remnting in this second period. Goal
of the game came at six forty two of the
first period by Cassie Hall, her eleventh goal of the year.
She's having a nice season so far. Yes, she is
around of the far side Wisconsin to the point. Venusio
near board, sets it up, turned played it wide of
(01:12:54):
the goal, hit the back of the cage. McCarthy holds
it in back out on top over way for Murphy.
Murphy will lame play it along the back wall. Pekanagen
is there now. The Minnesota turns, tries to bring it
out Badger's pinch, but boving with it comes in over
the blue line of Wisconsin. Shuffled it toward the net.
Murphy cleared it fired by the deep side on the left,
(01:13:17):
but the Badgers turn it away. Here comes per Card
with Pekanagan in over the line over the McCarthy shot,
and the glove save is by Hannah Clark.
Speaker 5 (01:13:28):
She looks like she's really got a nice glove. Yeah,
in terms of save.
Speaker 15 (01:13:32):
I would agree with you. She's a good goaltender. She
gets out, her depth is good, sees the puck and
picks it clean. Good hand eye coordination by their goaltender,
Hannah Clark.
Speaker 4 (01:13:43):
And we're down to under four point thirty remitting in
the period, actually four to twenty four.
Speaker 5 (01:13:49):
Both teams full strength in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:13:52):
Here in the second period, Cassie Hall trying to win
the face off draw goes Minnesota will control it back
deep in the zone around on the fore side, Jordan
looking for help to bring it out and Gorba Tanco
held it in that shot was blocked. Minnesota trying to
bring it out, Sims and Gorbatanco and they shoot that
up into the netting and we'll have another face off
(01:14:15):
coming up. Gorbatankle with a little discussion there with Jordan.
Speaker 15 (01:14:20):
Yeah, Jordan was giving her a little bump there after
the her cries, maybe one of them after they're both
of them. After the whistle.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
And the face off will come up to the left side,
back in the zone of Minnesota comes around on the play,
going back in behind around Gophers set it up to
bring it out. Jordan with it and in the neutral
zone backhanded to the blue line of Wisconsin. Dello Sundro
with it or not, losing control of the puck, and
(01:14:50):
Wisconsin plays it out over the Gorbatanco backhands it in
over the blue line and Hansen quickly around on the
far side on the break. Minnesota comeing out and moving
it in all alone. Shot yet hit the pipe in
the funnel and they got a major break there is
the rebound.
Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
Wow, did they get a break?
Speaker 15 (01:15:11):
First of all, I'm surprised at gel got past Jungles,
but she did for one on old shot.
Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
And coming back over to set it up. Here Sims
to come out of the zone. You talk about snake bit.
Here's Harvey comes in over the line three nineteen, remaining
as and there's a potential break again. Minnesota with pressure,
Badger's looking to set it up and controlled. You can
see where both of these teams have quality players and
(01:15:39):
Sims try to control it.
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
Badgers Edward's looking to hold it in.
Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
Minnesota turns it out on a break and moving it
in and trying to go to the backhander. They took
it away from Abby there. Murfield, Yep, nice play against Abby.
They almost got a break there. Murphy likes to do
that kind of lag back a little bit and then
around on the far side over to pick it up
(01:16:04):
in control. Back to the point there's a drive went
in behind the net two thirty five, reminting in the
period coming up Ice and.
Speaker 5 (01:16:13):
Leyla Edwards with it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
Both teams at full strength and coming to the blue
line of Wisconsin back and Abby Murphy fires it in
over the line intended for Lindsay Lindsey off, there's a
shot by Likeness in front and a good save there.
Pressure by the Gophers here late in the period, Nelson,
the crowd sensing it.
Speaker 5 (01:16:34):
They're trying to cheer the Badgers on here two o
seven remaining. Listen to the crowd. They're trying to Minnesota
with a.
Speaker 4 (01:16:42):
Drive back in or in front, heavy traffic and the
save made and McNaughton gets knocked back.
Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
Into the goal after the well after the whistle too,
that was unnecessary. And she's gonna get up.
Speaker 15 (01:16:57):
Yeah, Jordan kind of ran into her for from Minnesota
there after the whistle.
Speaker 5 (01:17:02):
And she hopefully didn't hit her head in there.
Speaker 24 (01:17:05):
No, I know.
Speaker 15 (01:17:08):
She's taking her time getting up. I think she's gonna
be okay.
Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
But and right, they're gonna have a couple of matching
miners here. They're gonna take Scannal in the box and
also Kaiser is gonna go in the box.
Speaker 15 (01:17:25):
You're gonna match them up. Uh, I don't know what
scandal got was? Did they say a rough by them
or rough by scandal?
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
So they got matching yeah, yeah, slashing in a roughing call.
We'll match it up.
Speaker 18 (01:17:47):
Here.
Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
That's the second time they've matched them up in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
Yeah, so both teams are four on four plus goaltenders
here and the face off coming up to the right
side of Aba back in the Badger's zone. The draw
comes to the point near side Minnesota four on four,
Lightning with it, circles around on the far side of
(01:18:14):
her to set it.
Speaker 5 (01:18:15):
Up back door. They got Jordan. They couldn't get the
pass clearly to Jordan. They flip it around on the wing.
Speaker 4 (01:18:21):
Badger's on the near side, trying to work it loose
within his jungles, jungles head manning it out of the zone.
Here's Harvey on the rush. She skates in over the blueline.
Harvey with it, the pass the sims sims a move
tried to get clear, goes in behind the net, centers
it right out in front. Badgers set it up over
the KK Harvey, Harvey with it back door shot. Oh tip,
(01:18:45):
Badgers had a chance there with an open net. That
tip went wide off the stick of Cassie Hall.
Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
Yep, a little redirect there and moving it in, shotting
the goal by booming.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
Booming gets the goal or fifth of the year, and
we've got a tie game at.
Speaker 15 (01:19:03):
One one, A hard wrister just over the block or
glove and taken just outside the blue paint to even
up the score at one apiece.
Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
Send him again, so Boobing gets the goal, her fifth
goal of the year. That was a four on four goal.
Speaker 15 (01:19:24):
Yeah, well, we gotta can't give him that high percentage
shot in that tight I guess, huh.
Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
One eleven remaining on the matching minor calls and it
comes back over to Venusio off on the break, trying
to pick it up. His picard. Picard comes in over
the line. Let's see what the Badgers can do here.
In the last one a minute, Harvey with it around
on the far side over trying to control it, back
out on top over to Venusio. Venusio around and controlling it,
(01:19:56):
goes to eaton eating with the puck aiden controlling it
back over to the Ucio shot right on from the
point forty two seconds a minting in the period, going
back over to try and control it and play back
down deep in the zone in the corner. Back over
to try and set it up. They'll come around on
the play and control it and the Minnesota sets it
(01:20:18):
up to come back out of their own zone and
they try to work it ahead, striding back down in
the corn owners moro. They're pretty good at getting somebody
back on the break. Yes, they are sixteen thirty remain
or sixteen seconds remaining and along the boards in this
one to one game here back in behind the app
Wisconsin over to pick it up. Murphy on her knees,
(01:20:40):
played it around. Badgers are pinned against the wall and
coming over to prime pick it up. And your thoughts
on the end of the second period here.
Speaker 15 (01:20:49):
Well, I tell you you can't afford to have a turnover.
I mean any misconnected pass. You got a quick transition
and an odd man run other way. They had a
couple odd band rushes a period, so we gotta eliminate that.
Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
We'll be back after this time out. This is Wisconsin
Badger women's hockey. They give it to Harvey given goal
behind her back on the path in front shot.
Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
Oh what a save man, unbelievable by Hannah Clark coming
back and the open net shot was turned away from
Minnesota coming out and moving it in all alone shot.
They'll hit the pipe in the follow and they got
a major break. There is the rebound. Wow did they
(01:21:45):
get a break.
Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
And moving it in shotting the goal by booming.
Speaker 4 (01:21:50):
Booming gets the goal or fifth of the year, and
we've got a tie game at one one.
Speaker 17 (01:21:59):

Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
Welcome back to Wisconsin. Women's Talcket presented part plays.
Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
That's during the intermation Pagram and the play by play
announcer for the Minnesota Going in Milker's Dan. Let's start
a little bit with your history. You've been doing it
quite a few years.
Speaker 5 (01:24:14):
Seven.
Speaker 26 (01:24:15):
Yeah, I go back almost as long as Frosty there
with the team, and he's been with the team nineteen years.
I came on the year after he was hired as
the interim, so I've been doing this eighteen years.
Speaker 4 (01:24:26):
And to be honest, Paul has been the most fun
I've ever had in my career. And I'll tell you
talk about Frosty, He's now fourth on the all time
winning list. So he's had a heck of a lot
of the success of Minnesota there.
Speaker 26 (01:24:38):
I mean, well, especially in his early days, they got,
you know, so many just wonderful players, as you know,
the forty one old team that they had with Brandt
and Steckline and oh there's so many Nora Ratu and
just so many even good role players that you didn't
hear about on a regular basis.
Speaker 5 (01:24:58):
You know.
Speaker 26 (01:24:59):
And yeah, and with the players he's got coming in,
I expect a lot more success to come out of
it too. So he's him and his coaching staff are
really working hard and doing a really good job, I
think on the recruiting trails here in these last few years.
Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
Let's talk about some of those players that he brought
in the transfer portal. It seems like he's used that now. Yeah,
you know, as every team, every team, you know, it's a.
Speaker 26 (01:25:22):
Daft or die, you know, I don't think it's necessarily
a popular thing amongst coaches, but you know, it isn't
almost a necessary evil now.
Speaker 11 (01:25:32):
But yeah, we've been able to pull in some good ones.
Speaker 26 (01:25:35):
You know, we got Molly Jordan, a good defense but
from BC Sarah Paul from Princeton who unfortunately she'll be
out for the next three months.
Speaker 11 (01:25:44):
You have a surgery performed on a lingering injury, so
she's out.
Speaker 26 (01:25:48):
But yeah, he's been able to pull in, you know,
the pieces that kind of to supplement the freshman that
he's got coming in the Scotty report and you take
it for what it's worth, but Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (01:26:01):
This year is probably more talented than it's been in
the last couple of years.
Speaker 11 (01:26:05):
And deeper.
Speaker 26 (01:26:06):
I would definitely agree with the depth. They've been rolling
four lines on a regular basis. Now that probably won't
happen today, depending on, of course, how the game goes
and our health wise too.
Speaker 11 (01:26:19):
We've got a few players.
Speaker 26 (01:26:20):
Dinged up so they're not one hundred percent, so that
kind of shortens the bench up there a little bit,
but Bella Finale has come in stepped up, has played
great with that top line, made an instant impact. We've
had Sianna del Sandro who has yet to hit the
back of the neck, but boy, she's come close a
few times. She's seen a lot of ice time here
(01:26:40):
lately too. And then of course, you know just in neck.
Having Leila hamp a little extra depth there to Hannah
Clark really has helped.
Speaker 11 (01:26:49):
Out a lot too.
Speaker 4 (01:26:50):
And Frosty's normal situation in terms of looking at a
team year to year, what kind of coaches idiot, what
does he expect out of his team?
Speaker 11 (01:27:00):
You know, he's not a very loud coach. He's soft spoken.
Speaker 26 (01:27:05):
He tries to get his point across, you know, firmly,
but with very little yelling. I've never seen him actually,
you know, get vocal or with a player. Uh now
with other coaches, and that's another thing, as we talked
a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 11 (01:27:22):
But you know, this is a very nurturing coaching staff.
Speaker 26 (01:27:27):
Frosty has brought in I think you know boom By
and Mitch Baker along with Jess Scott, and they're all
kind of similar.
Speaker 11 (01:27:34):
They're they're they're teachers.
Speaker 4 (01:27:36):
Uh.
Speaker 26 (01:27:37):
They really watch a lot of video maybe in my opinion,
maybe a little bit too much, but they're really good
teachers there.
Speaker 4 (01:27:44):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (01:27:44):
And and you know, as all good teachers do, they find.
Speaker 26 (01:27:48):
Out what somebody needs to improve on and then teach
them the proper way and hopefully, you know, they'll.
Speaker 11 (01:27:54):
Find success, which they have.
Speaker 4 (01:27:56):
And they have one player that seeks to draw attention orre.
She goes, but I'll tell you what, Abby Murphy we're
talking about, who's already got fourteen goals in ten games.
But I was talking to the gals at Wisconsin that
our potential candidates.
Speaker 11 (01:28:11):
For the Olympic team.
Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
In fact, Ava McNaughton was talking about it, and she goes,
you know what, I like her when you're around her
as a person, not on the ice, but as a person.
She's friendly, she's outgoing, she's sincere. She said, I'd love
to have her as a teammate. But yet at the
same time, she's feisty to play against. She's not I'm
(01:28:33):
not sure that's the right word. Oh well, feisty might
be the nice way to describe it there, Paul. But
you know, avas described.
Speaker 26 (01:28:41):
Her perfectly on the ice, fierce, ferocious, I mean, hard
knows she if you're in her way, she's gonna just
go right over you, as you have probably seen more
than once.
Speaker 11 (01:28:52):
But yeah, off the ice, and I've said this.
Speaker 26 (01:28:55):
Many times to any people, she is so kind with
her time, especially the children who come to the games, and.
Speaker 11 (01:29:04):
The kids all lover So it's no surprise that players
on other teams don't feel.
Speaker 10 (01:29:08):
The same way.
Speaker 4 (01:29:09):
And overall, as you look at this team versus say
the last three or four that you're broadcast.
Speaker 26 (01:29:14):
What's the difference. As you said, it's the depth, and
it's the amount of talent there. And with what's coming
in here in the future, I think even after Abby's
gone and a few other people Nelly Lytton is graduating,
Josephin Boubang will be moving on, so there'll be some
(01:29:35):
holes to fill, but definitely the future is bright. The
recruits they got, at least to verbally commit, look to
be outstanding and will be more than able replacement. So
I think the program, you know, you've been there, but
we haven't been really you know, elite, And I think
this program is about to become elite here over.
Speaker 4 (01:29:56):
The next year or two. You know, I'm going to
ask you the same question, and I get asked by
a lot of people. For many years, I wasn't involved
in women's hockey quick frankly, didn't pay a lot of
attention to it. And I can remember going to the
first Badger practice and there were gals in the team
that couldn't pass the puck across the ice. I say
to friends now that I've never seen a Badger women's game,
(01:30:18):
or like this weekend would be a special time to
come to the rink because what they would see the
quality of play, the quickness, the speed, the passing ability,
the shooting ability.
Speaker 11 (01:30:31):
You feel the same way.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
I mean, idiot's top notch hockey.
Speaker 11 (01:30:35):
I definitely agree, And you know, you get a little
sense on TV, but you really do experience, have to
see it in person. But yeah, the talent level is
just is top notch.
Speaker 26 (01:30:46):
It is a lead maybe not the speed or the
strength of the men's game, but nonetheless either talented individuals.
Speaker 11 (01:30:53):
And you know, Paul I was kind of the.
Speaker 26 (01:30:55):
Same boat when I started eighteen years ago and I
was like, wow, go for now, and they hired.
Speaker 11 (01:31:00):
Me on and like women's hockey, I'm like, okay, you know,
my experiences.
Speaker 26 (01:31:04):
Were kind of the early days where you know, had
a hard time just completing a pass across the ice.
And my first game I can recall very vividly. It
was against Robert Morris and I remember Gg Marvin and
that's a name from the past. Here picks up a
puck and just makes this drive down the wing and
(01:31:26):
then just a hard cut to the net and ended
up scoring in the first minute to play, and my
jaw has dropped. And I've been in love with the
women's game ever since. So yeah, if you haven't seen it,
you really need to come out take it in person.
And you know, and actually it's quite an economical ticket,
to be honest. I mean, many many programs free admission
(01:31:47):
for children or very cheap tickets. So I would tell
you i'd definitely take tell parents to take advantage of that.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
I tell you what, thank you for your time, and
you know, you and I we got kind of a
pleasure tonight. We have an opportunity to sit here and
broadcast what probably will be a pretty good hockey game.
Speaker 11 (01:32:04):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Paul, thankss thanks for
having me.

Speaker 1 (01:34:09):
This is Wisconsin Women's Hockey presented.
Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
We are back at Lebond Arena on a Friday night
here where the Wisconsin Badgers take it on their arch
rival in the border battle, the Minnesota Golden Gophers in
women's hockey men's hockey. The two teams met last night
at the Coal Center and the Badgers defeated the Golden
Gophers of Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:34:32):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:34:32):
It's one one in what has been a good hockey game,
and I guess that's what everybody expected. A low scoring,
very good hockey game with up and down action and
the two goals that have been scored Wisconsin. In the
first period at six forty two, Cassie Hall got her
eleventh goal of the year.
Speaker 5 (01:34:50):
She's the leading goal scorer.
Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
For the Wisconsin Badgers, number eleven scored her eleventh. Eden
got an assist on the goal that was her eleventh
of the year, and KK Harvey picked up an assist
on the five on five goal that was her twelfth
of the year. In the second period at eighteen fifty,
Minnesota tied the game as Booving got a goal, her
(01:35:15):
fifth of the year. Abby Murphy got an assist on
the goal, her eighth of the year, and Lighten and
picked up an assist and for her it was a
fourth time this season she picked up an assist.
Speaker 5 (01:35:29):
And that was a four on four goal.
Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
Shots on goal are thirty five to twenty two edged
for the Badgers. Greenies back from the locker room, and
the discussion was what down there.
Speaker 15 (01:35:41):
Primarily it was get pucks in deep, you know, don't
mess around with it up top if you don't have anything,
get it to the net, get it in deep, get
it in deep quick transitions.
Speaker 4 (01:35:52):
Do you think miss Minnesota doing anything that maybe you
guys didn't expect.
Speaker 5 (01:35:56):
No, not really.
Speaker 15 (01:35:57):
You know, they the chance, like I said, are they
challenge you wherever you have the puck, no matter what
zone you're in. And they're they're good enough players.
Speaker 22 (01:36:05):
To do that.
Speaker 15 (01:36:05):
You know, they don't get burnt attempting that. So no,
it's it's pretty much what we'd expect, you know, no
real surprises. You know, we're without a couple of players, as.
Speaker 5 (01:36:16):
Are they Minnesota. Yeah, they've got two out. Yeah, Free
Morano is out and Paul is out.
Speaker 15 (01:36:22):
Yeah, so yeah, he you know he Mark was saying,
the team that gets the pucks and the nuts probably
gonna win it, or you know, gets it in deep
more often, he's probably gonna win it. So hopefully that'll
be us.
Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Well, the Badgers have a lot on the line. They
have won twenty three games in a row.
Speaker 5 (01:36:41):
That in itself is amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:36:43):
It carries over obviously from last year when they won
the national championship. They're undefeated in their last thirty seven games.
They haven't lost the game here at Lebon. They're twenty
seven zero to one in their last twenty eight games,
and they're seven and oh in the last seven games
with the Gophers.
Speaker 15 (01:37:03):
You know, it's funny when you bring up those I
don't even think of those, you know, I don't realize
those streaks are going on, or those you know, one
sided win column stats. But yeah, you'd like to keep
it going. But each game's a separate challenge.
Speaker 4 (01:37:19):
And since Lebond opened, if the Badgers would win tonight,
it would be their two hundredth win in this building
against twenty one losses in twelve times. We've got Lindsey
out with Finale and Murphy and that line of Enright
scandaling Eden out for the Badgers. Edwards and Harvey pair defensively.
(01:37:43):
Badgers back in their own zone. They'll slide it out
on the right side over to Eden Aiden, over to Layla.
Edwards comes back over to Enwright en Right playing on
the number one line on the left wing, down on
the corner on the near side of Minnesota and the
Badger's zone, working the around. It's Finale with it around
on the far boards, Edwards shot it wide of the goal.
Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
Badgers on the near wing.
Speaker 4 (01:38:06):
Pick it up with Eden Aiden trying to control it
down in the corner, eating with it around over to
nd Right back over to Edwards with the drive and
Wisconsin holding it in. KK with it back out on
top over to Eden even between the circles, shot it
off the glass. Minnesota turned and they tried to flip
it out on the boards. Back goes KK, Harvey Murphy
(01:38:29):
again lagging back. Wisconsin comes back in over the line.
Eden on a drop the past pulling up in the
corner was scandal. Gophers will turn and they come out
of their own zone and the Gophers setting it up
back in their own zone. Here in the third period,
just underway coming up I ice and with it Jordan
fired it in over the line, booming who's got the
(01:38:51):
goal of the game. Whipped it around the boards trying
to clear it and the Minnesota regroups just outside the
blue line of Wisconsin kaiser at it lost it.
Speaker 5 (01:39:01):
Badgers come in over the line. There's a shot and
covering it up.
Speaker 4 (01:39:05):
And it's going to be controlled along the board's near
wing and it goes all the way back down to
the Badger's zone. Ava with it flipped it around on
the near side on the boards, Wisconsin near wing, looking
to bring it out. They do it to the blue
line of the Gophers, lightening around on the far side.
Off on the play, Gophers will carry it to the
(01:39:25):
blue line of Wisconsin. Badgers break it up and Gorbatanco
on the left side. Minnesota turns Sims tried to take
it away. Badgers look to play the puck and they'll
flip it down on the corner. Sim's trying to chase
it down, lighting and whistle and play is going to
be stopped in the zone of Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (01:39:46):
You know, Paul, you commented on something and I hope
everybody out there notices it. And that's when Murphy tries
to cherry pick a little bit. You saw it in
that last shift she was out there for the Gophers
where she kind of hangs back and they spring a
pet ask quickly to her. And that's an odd man
rush with an appoint that you don't want to have
to give that too if you can prevent it.
Speaker 5 (01:40:06):
And there's a shot in front. Mcnonton shotting a goal.
Speaker 4 (01:40:09):
In the follow oh Minnesota gets the rebound and they
tip it in and they've taken a two to one
lead over the Wisconsin Badgers, and Wisconsin's going to have
to play catch up here. As Humphrey, I believe got
the goal that who it was Humphrey? No, I think
(01:40:31):
it may have been Dela Shando.
Speaker 15 (01:40:34):
The Alessandro yep, yep. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
That comes at two ten the time in the third
period as Dela Chandro gets the goal.
Speaker 5 (01:40:47):
That's her first goal.
Speaker 4 (01:40:50):
Wow, and uh Minnesota with a two to one lead
over the Wisconsin Badgers. Dela Chando with the assist to
Humphrey and also picking up and assist on that goal.
So Minnesota with the lead over the Wisconsin Badger.
Speaker 15 (01:41:16):
Yeah, we gotta get that one back, Paul, hopefully sooner
rather than later.
Speaker 5 (01:41:23):
Going back over to set it up and control.
Speaker 4 (01:41:25):
Badgers come back in over the line, VENUSI over the drive,
played back down in the corner. Gophers look to bring
it out of the zone. Scandal tried to hold it
in around the boards on the far side. The Minnesota
will regroup and they come up ice to the blue
line of Wisconsin. It's going to be turned back by
Scandal and played back down in the corner. Lighting and
(01:41:46):
over the control back in behind the NPT. Gophers look
to start out of the zone. They come up ice
on the far side and they control it at the center.
Speaker 5 (01:41:57):
Blue line.
Speaker 4 (01:41:57):
There they took it up and dump it back down
of the boards, coming in over the line. Sims dropped
a pass on the wing. Wisconsin works it on the
near side, try to go out in front over to
sim taken away by Boving, coming up Ice controlling it.
Booving skates in over the Wisconsin line, moving with a backhander,
and it's going to be turned away. Good pressure in
(01:42:20):
the park by Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (01:42:22):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:42:22):
Play in the neutral zone. Badger's over to set it up.
Hat's in her eyes trying to control it. Gophers come
back in over the line, moving off on the play,
moving it in, shot high and wide of the goal,
and that.
Speaker 5 (01:42:35):
Was fired by Nelson.
Speaker 4 (01:42:37):
The Gophers try to work it in the slot, the
Nava covers up and makes the save.
Speaker 15 (01:42:44):
Yeah that Boving is pretty involved in a lot of
action today.
Speaker 5 (01:42:48):
Huh. She's one of their better players obviously.
Speaker 15 (01:42:51):
Yep, she's in a lot of plays here, going to
the net.
Speaker 4 (01:42:54):
Hard Poshova also picked up and assist on that last
game her goal and so to Humphrey. So Minnesota with
a five on five goal here in the third period,
takes a two to one lead. KK Harvey around back
in behind and McCarthy with it comes up ice on
(01:43:15):
the near wing and McCarthy will play it back in
behind the Gopher net around the boards on the far side.
McCarthy over to pick it up, works the wing on
the play back to the point over the KK Harvey
around over the Laila Edwards off on the play over
the McCarthy with a drive deflected wide of the goal,
back of the net of Minnesota. Badgers try to hold
(01:43:36):
it there with Picard, but it's turned around by lightening
on the break, moving it up ice. The Gophers come
to the blue line of Wisconsin taking back and it's
going to be played back down in the corner, Picard
chasing it trying to get there first though the Gophers Franco.
Minnesota comes back up ice through neutralized with it is
(01:43:57):
a poshova and moving it in sho a goal.
Speaker 5 (01:44:02):
They get a breakaway goal and.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
Minnesota has taken a three to one lead as they
caught the Badgers and turnover and the Gophers have taken
a two goal lead in this hockey game.
Speaker 15 (01:44:16):
That goal was by was that by moral? Heck of
a draw? Yep, it was Moro. She really was patient
and deeked and then once Eva committed.
Speaker 5 (01:44:25):
She throw it twenty eight at the time of the goal.
Speaker 15 (01:44:27):
I drug it to her fore hand and put it
in on the right side.
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
Yeah, Moro gets her third goal of the year. That's
a five on five goal. That one silenced the Crown
crowd here.
Speaker 15 (01:44:41):
Yeah, we gotta we gotta get it back here, Paul,
see what we can do, See how we respond.
Speaker 5 (01:44:51):
Pusova got another assist on that, her second consecutive one
one assists on the goal.
Speaker 4 (01:44:57):
But a three to one lead now four minutes Soda
and the Gophers showing a lot of hustle.
Speaker 5 (01:45:04):
Good for checking here.
Speaker 4 (01:45:06):
Yeah, along the boards on the right side, there's another
shot blocked and it comes out of his own back
on it sent her eyes over to control it on
the right side. It comes around over tomorrow. Morrow fired
it in and it's going to be cleared. Play back
down behind the net of Wisconsin.
Speaker 15 (01:45:25):
Devenuzio was taking her time there a little bit. I
don't think she would realized she was getting pressured like that.
We're gonna have a face off to the right of
Ava here in her own end. See who takes the
draw for us here, looks like Cassie Halls in the
center circle and see if she can win it.
Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
Both teams at full strength and Badger's down by two.
Here played back down on the corner on the far side,
over the Mackenzie Jones there, she's coming out defensively. Badger's
shortened the bench back.
Speaker 5 (01:46:03):
On the blue line.
Speaker 4 (01:46:04):
They're obviously missing Potter coming over to try and pick
it up. Fan play comes back into the line and
there's an off side by Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (01:46:14):
So right there, Paul's what I mean about, you know,
managing the puck and stuff. So Jones is gonna clear it.
She tries a long diagonal pass while a team like
Minnesota's going to pick that off, which they did. We're
lucky they went off sides to prevent a shot on goal.
Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
And the Gophers nine wins on the year, only one loss.
Everybody you talked to said they were a deeper team,
they had better personnel than they've had in the last
couple of years, and they were going to be a threat,
and they obviously are.
Speaker 5 (01:46:48):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:46:49):
You can see that very plain and simple around on
the far side over to try and pick it up,
back down to the corner, and it's going to be
chipped down on the far side.
Speaker 5 (01:46:58):
Badger Sims with it.
Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
Sims will turn Wisconsin looking to come out of their
own zone off and the Brakes comes in over the line.
Man trying to move it through a SIMS and it's
going to be.
Speaker 5 (01:47:09):
Picked up and controlled Minnesota backing over the Wisconsin line.
There's a shot that was deflected high and wide.
Speaker 15 (01:47:16):
They we've got a piece of that thing.
Speaker 4 (01:47:17):
God, and that one was fire right on by Dello
Sandro and Wisconsin will play it up the boards on
the near side and that should be an icing called
against the Badgers with thirteen fifty four remitting.
Speaker 5 (01:47:31):
In the period gotten very quiet. Yeah, Lebon, you're not
used to that, but.
Speaker 15 (01:47:39):
Now we don't have the band here tonight. They must
be out trick or treating Paul.
Speaker 5 (01:47:43):
Either that or maybe they're over with the volleyball.
Speaker 15 (01:47:46):
Could be at the fieldhouse.
Speaker 4 (01:47:47):
That's right, You've got to time out. This is Wisconsin

the game Welcome Back to Wisconsin Women's Hockey, presented by
oh Park Plays.
Speaker 4 (01:49:12):
Mark Johnson is the one that called the time out,
and he was talking to the whole team over on
the bench, and he's obviously sending a message and going, look,
you've given up two goals in less than two ten
and four to twenty eight.
Speaker 5 (01:49:28):
Yeah, so less than two minutes and thirty seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
You give up a couple of goals and you want
to kind of repeat what you think that speech might be.
It's as simple as hey, we better get our act
together here, right.
Speaker 15 (01:49:41):
Yeah, tighten up on her own end and make smart
passes so nothing gets picked off.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
In the neutral zone, and we'll have the face off
coming up. The crowd was loud for a couple of
seconds right before that face first face off, and now
they're quite it down again.
Speaker 5 (01:50:00):
Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (01:50:03):
See we can give him something to cheer about here.
Speaker 4 (01:50:05):
Paul put one on the board here thirteen forty four
remedic in the period, going back over Badgers in their
own zone.
Speaker 5 (01:50:12):
They're pinned along the near wall.
Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
The Gophers look to hold it in around rink wide
in the pass, Minnesota setting it up just inside the
blue line. They try to go back door the tip
down in the corner, going over to try and pick
that up. Minnesota with the lead, both teams at full
strength to Abby Murphy with a drive that's block raybound
(01:50:34):
is pushed wide of the goal. Finale with it back
to the point, comes around back over Tomorrow at the
right point that shot is blocked. KK with it back
hands it out on the break coming up ice to
Eden Aiden cutting in over the line down in the corner,
she's forced wide, goes in behind the net. Gophers will
turn and they'll hopefully give it up to the Badgers.
(01:50:56):
But they clear it out over the center ice and
Booving was checked by Murphy and taken to the ice.
They gotta get Murphy on that check.
Speaker 15 (01:51:06):
I don't know, Oh, come on, yeah, that was.
Speaker 4 (01:51:10):
I don't know what.
Speaker 5 (01:51:11):
Ah man, if that's a what's that was a cheap one.
That's a cheap one.
Speaker 19 (01:51:25):
Yeah that was.
Speaker 15 (01:51:27):
Oh yeah, that's something that's uh yeah allowed all night.
And then they uh and.
Speaker 4 (01:51:36):
Now they got a powerplay situation. Uh well, if that's
rushing or roughing, I'd like to see.
Speaker 15 (01:51:44):
Yeah, that was.
Speaker 5 (01:51:47):
Almost no touch there, but it is what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
You're onto the far side, Gophers looking to set it
up three to one of Minnesota just inside the blueline.
Gophers with the power play this undoubtedly would make it
almost a mountain too high to climb for the Badgers
to come back. They'd be down by three. They don't
have a short handy yet this year. That's true, coming
(01:52:13):
around over to try and control it. That it kind
of turned things a little bit here, Yeah, wouldn't it
Dumping it down back in behind the net. Badgers turn
and they'll bang it around the boards, but Murphy holds
it in at the point, goes around on the far side,
and play going to be set up at the far side.
The Minnesota controls it at the moving it in. They
(01:52:34):
come around over and the pass went Jordan picking it
up at the point. Jordan with it, goes cross ice
on the play and it's going to be played down
to the corner on the far side of Minnesota looking
to set it up, play it around the boards, Nelson
with it. There's a drive. We're down to one minute
remaining on the power play. Gophers will change up, Badgers
(01:52:55):
will change up. Power play situation for Minnesota. Finale is
out of the ice, Lightening is out of the ice,
Boving is out along with Lindsey.
Speaker 15 (01:53:11):
You mentioned possibility getting a shorty. Wouldn't that be nice
right now? That bring the crowd to life?
Speaker 5 (01:53:16):
Huh? Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:53:17):
What back lightning to the point on the near side,
little given gold, Minnesota setting it up. They pass it
just inside the blue line, Lightening with it, Lightning going
back door, shutting the goal Beauty by booming. Yeah, booming
gets her second of the game or sixth of the
year second tonight, and that play was a big time play.
Speaker 5 (01:53:40):
Wow, executed to perfection. Yeah.
Speaker 15 (01:53:43):
She just took a blast from below the dot, you know,
not too far off the circle on the low end
to Eva's left and just blasted it.
Speaker 5 (01:53:53):
Eight twenty three the time of the goal here.
Speaker 4 (01:53:58):
In the third period, Minneso Soda has scored at two, ten,
four to twenty eight and eight twenty three.
Speaker 5 (01:54:05):
Just well on their way to victory with a four
to one score.
Speaker 15 (01:54:11):
Yeah, I'd like to say we could make something back here,
but we got to get going quickly here. Not a
lot of game left. Eleven and a half minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
And it's played around the boards, coming over to try
and pick it up and play back in behind. Minnesota
with a three goal lead over the Badgers here and
coming up ice controlling it. Gophers coming through the neutral zone,
round over to pick it up. Jordan with it, moving
it toward the front of the net. Big traffic there,
shot a goal, Murphy, Abby Murphy gets the goal for
(01:54:43):
fifteenth to the ear and the Gophers laid at five
to one.
Speaker 5 (01:54:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (01:54:50):
Eva made the initial save in about two seconds later.
There was a rebound there and Murphy jumped on it,
popped it in a high with a little bit the
traffic in front of the net.
Speaker 5 (01:55:02):
Eight fifty two the time of the goal. Wow, we
got to.
Speaker 15 (01:55:10):
Play for a little pride here in perspective, base this
adversity and answer the bell to it a little bit here,
see what we can do, huh.
Speaker 5 (01:55:26):
And coming back over to set it up and control
along the boards in the neutral zone, Wisconsin will dump
it back. Well you can. I think it's safe at
this point to say all the streaks are going to
come to an end here. I agree with you, Paul,
but it well, we knew it was gonna happen.
Speaker 15 (01:55:47):
Sooner or later, inevitably one day or another.
Speaker 4 (01:55:49):
Yeah, and it's coming in. The streak is going to
be ended by a good hockey team, no doubt about it.
I'm not saying the Badgers are bad team by any means,
but on this Minnesota is there's a shot went high
and wide of the goal. They're obviously the better club tonight,
maybe tomorrow afternoon, the Badgers will turn the tide on them,
(01:56:11):
coming up Ice, controlling it, Dan coming in over the line,
Scandal down in the corner over trying to pick it up.
We are nearing the halfway mark of the third period
in a five to one score man, Yeah, this.
Speaker 5 (01:56:24):
Will rate us a few eyebrows around Collie chalking now.
Speaker 15 (01:56:27):
They scored four goals in less than ten minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:56:30):
And around on the far side may even cost the
Badgers the number one ranking depending on what happens tomorrow
and coming back over it to set it up, and
it's gonna be dumped back down in the corner.
Speaker 15 (01:56:41):
I think he's gonna call Peak and their official's gonna
call Pekinhagen for something here. She was defending in the
neutral zone there, but I think she's gonna sit down
for two minutes. I don't know what the call will
be officially named, but we'll find out. Tripping. Yeah, two
(01:57:04):
minutes for tripping Peckenhagen. Well we're getting to work on
our power play or our penalty killed tonight anyway, huh.
I'm always looking for something positive out of it. Yeah,
two minutes for tripping.
Speaker 4 (01:57:24):
Uncharacteristic for the Badgers in terms of the power or
the penalties.
Speaker 15 (01:57:28):
Yeah, well that, you know, they were both kind of
She was just trying to defend in the neutral zone,
I guess, I you know, must have got her stick
involved too much there, but pretty good efforts by Peckenhagen.
Speaker 4 (01:57:42):
But one of the keys of this game, and that
was no penalties played disciplined or you're going to suffer.
Speaker 5 (01:57:49):
Well, yeah, that's exactly what's happened here too.
Speaker 15 (01:57:52):
You play a really good team and uh, to ask
yourselves to play a man short and expect the way
it is kind of unrealistic, you know, So we'll see
what we can do here. They're going to face it
off to the left of Ava McNaughton.
Speaker 5 (01:58:05):
Here in our own end, a lot of people are
heading out.
Speaker 15 (01:58:09):
Oh boy, there they kind of are, aren't they.
Speaker 5 (01:58:11):
Pep, they're leaving. You don't see that very often, not
at this building, but they're even tonight they are. Maybe
they're going trick or treat.
Speaker 15 (01:58:19):
Yeah, that's probably It got that sweet tooth. It's nagging
up a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:58:25):
Dad.
Speaker 4 (01:58:25):
We'll have the face off coming up. The official is
talking to Lighten and I'm not sure what they're discussing,
but five straight goals for.
Speaker 5 (01:58:35):
MINNESOTAO in about a ten minute span.
Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
Four in this period, two ten to eight fifty two
four goals and they scored at eighteen fifty of the
second period. Yep, coming up Ivice. Minnesota comes in over
the line, controlling it down to the corner on the
far side, over trying to pick it up, and Wisconsin
(01:58:59):
will turn out. They come controlling it and Venusio with it,
fires it down deep in the zone in the corner
and around the boards on the far side, angling it
around on the far side over to try and pick
it up.
Speaker 5 (01:59:13):
Play in the neutral zone.
Speaker 4 (01:59:15):
Minnesota, they're going to go to ten and one on
the ear both teams will be tied for the lead
in the WCCHA. Minnesota was three points behind coming in
and there's a backander and the save was made good
effort by Eden and play along the boards on the
near side, over to try and pick it up and
control and with it is Abby Murphy Abby coming up.
(01:59:37):
Ice comes in over the line and drives it around
the boards, rims it on the low side, and Wisconsin
we'll try.
Speaker 5 (01:59:45):
To bring it out and do with McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (01:59:47):
McCarthy tried to work it in over the line, tried
to chase it down behind thenad of the Gophers and
it's on the far side trying to control it. Minnesota
has it Kaiser Guyser back of the NAT and they'll
come out the Gophers on the puck, controlling it. They
work it up Ice. It's Graham, Graham on the play tomorrow.
(02:00:08):
Morrow comes in over the line, pulls up in the
near circle, goes back on the point on the plate
to Nelson. Nelson at the right side, a little given
go to Murphy still on the right near boards, back
out on top, comes around on the pass over to
Graham and a shot and to say by Ava, Yeah,
you know, I guess what begs The question now is.
Speaker 1 (02:00:33):
Is this in.
Speaker 4 (02:00:36):
A situation where having Potter and Chappie out of the
lineup may or may not have made a difference.
Speaker 5 (02:00:43):
I may have made a difference or two by a
goal or two.
Speaker 15 (02:00:46):
Yeah, I think it makes a difference. But there's some
other things that we got to do a little differently
that you know, we cannot pin on the absence of
those two players. Now, some adjustments to be made.
Speaker 5 (02:00:57):
And coming over to pick it up and control and
moving it in and going back in behind to that
around on the far side. Seven forty remitting in the period.
Speaker 4 (02:01:09):
And the play comes along the boards on the near side,
coming up Ice controlling it, coming in over the lines
with it, sims back door shot Venusio carried it behind
the net and coming up Ice and Minnesota trine and
controlling it that carry it back to the blueline.
Speaker 5 (02:01:25):
TiSER fired it.
Speaker 4 (02:01:26):
In back over to Abe Murphy able with it around
on the break on the far side, it's Gorbatankle ahead
on the play and trying to come in over the line.
Play comes back and it's over to sim Sims with
it and played back in behind gorbatankle to Cassie Hall
around over to Vivian Jungle Jungles with it on the
(02:01:49):
far side, comes back out at center ice, tried to
drive it down in the corner and did Badgers are
going to change up coming out on the ice as
Scandal also out on the ice peaking Hogen and going
back down deep in the zone over to try and
control it, and the Badgers back out at center ice
will play it back down in the corner and Wisconsin
(02:02:14):
trying to pick it up and control it back around
on the break. They come up Ice and they laid
it down in the corner and Scandal out along with
peking Hogen and right and Murphy and play Minnesota back
handing it down in the corner and KK Harvey whips
it around the boards on the far side, over the
peak and Hogen.
Speaker 5 (02:02:34):
Who have laid it toward the blue line. But it's
going to be covered up by Aba McNaughton as the
Gophers dump it back in.
Speaker 15 (02:02:43):
Yeah, you know, we have been on the pedalty kill
a little bit this period, but we've been out shot,
you know, thirteen to three, and that's just in this period. Yeah,
you know, and that I know, like I said, I know,
someone's on the penalty kill. But even still we got
to get some puck possession and do some things with it.
Speaker 4 (02:03:03):
Thirty eight thirty six in the shots right now, back
over to KK Harvey behind the net. KK working the
back wall and backhands it ahead at center ice. McCarthy
turned and one armed it down along the back wall
in the Gopher zone. Wisconsin on the fore check trying
to hold it in with Picard on the near side.
(02:03:25):
Egan comes over to help out. Harvey is there, but
it's cleared away by Graham. Graham trying to get help
from Nelson Badger's look to hold it in. Back over
to McCarthy out on top, over to KK Harvey. Harvey
moving the puck around and backhands it toward the net.
Percard with a shot went behind the net. Eden picks
it up, tried to center it back over the layla
(02:03:47):
Edwards pull the trigger.
Speaker 5 (02:03:49):
That's deflected.
Speaker 4 (02:03:50):
Why Pericard hit the side of the net and Gorbatanko
over to pick it up. Garbatanco centered it and Minnesota
tried to clear it. Gorbitanco fired it high and why
five minutes, ten seconds here's Harvey with a drive right
on and the save is made, nice saved.
Speaker 15 (02:04:09):
By clerk squares up to the shot comes out a
little bit, takes some of the net away, no rebound.
At least we had some puck possession as shift, you know,
which we have in a little while.
Speaker 5 (02:04:21):
Face off coming up back in the Minnesota zone.
Speaker 4 (02:04:25):
I think you might see a little celebration on the
part of the Gophers after this one's over.
Speaker 15 (02:04:29):
I would agree with you. Well, they're putting together a
pretty good game.
Speaker 5 (02:04:34):
Yeah, yeah, they are.
Speaker 4 (02:04:37):
Cassie Hall asks to leave the circle and Gorbatanko will
come in Minnesota trying to bring it out of the zone.
Murphy try to hold it in and that the blue
line play has stopped.
Speaker 15 (02:04:48):
Yeah, squirt it out just barely over.
Speaker 4 (02:04:53):
Same two teams tomorrow here at Lebon Arena, game time
two o'clock.
Speaker 15 (02:04:57):
Yeah, new day tomorrow, yep, start all over again.
Speaker 4 (02:05:02):
Sun will come out hopefully tomorrow, the Badgers hopefully will
pick up a victory.
Speaker 5 (02:05:06):
Take this split, and.
Speaker 15 (02:05:10):
I think he just slid is Did I see Rya
going there?
Speaker 5 (02:05:16):
And you're round on the far side. Yep, the goaltender
has changed.
Speaker 11 (02:05:19):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:05:19):
Riah's in around on the far side.
Speaker 4 (02:05:22):
We're got four forty five remnting getting some experience for
Rias Stewart.
Speaker 15 (02:05:28):
Yeah, do her good to face Minnesota, you know, yep, and.
Speaker 4 (02:05:32):
Play back down in the corner and it's going to
be chipped out and its rolls all the way back
down to the Gopher zone.
Speaker 5 (02:05:40):
Badgers will be ten and one on the year. There'll
be uh six and one in the WCHA same as
Minnesota now six and one, and both teams will be
tied for the lead in the WCCHA. Ohio State's right
there as well, the luth in fourth place.
Speaker 15 (02:06:00):
That'll be exciting tomorrow and.
Speaker 5 (02:06:02):
Coming back in of the line control to get there,
stick hand of with the puck.
Speaker 4 (02:06:05):
That's post sovo posuvu around on the far side, Christ
with it and Christ.
Speaker 5 (02:06:15):
Tried to pick it up. Minnesota Turns fired.
Speaker 15 (02:06:19):
It, blocked by scandal.
Speaker 5 (02:06:23):
And going back, controlling it in the neutral zone. Sims
with it.
Speaker 4 (02:06:29):
Sims had deflected off her stick, Badgers in their own
zone three point thirty, remitting in the period, coming up
Ice controlling it back in of the line. Sims with
it down in the corner, back of it the KK,
Harvey KK with it back out on top, comes back
of it to Edwards wrist shot in the glove and
popped out. Yeah, I had a rebound there, yep, came
(02:06:52):
in and out of the glove.
Speaker 15 (02:06:53):
Yeah. I like seeing Edward shoot the puck.
Speaker 4 (02:06:56):
We're gonna take a break and we'll be back after
this thirty second I'm out.
Speaker 28 (02:07:01):
When you've been injured, you need a winning team on
your side. Groober Lofses will fight for the results you deserve.
Called groober Lofts is today a proud partner of your

Speaker 6 (02:07:29):
Come for the beer and definitely stay for the food.
Speaker 5 (02:07:35):
They dashed out of the corner on the near side,
going back over to pick it up with two fifty
remedican the period in a five to one game, moving
would have scored the game winner, her first of two
here tonight, Abby Murphy's got a goal as well.
Speaker 4 (02:07:52):
She leads the country. She's got fifteen goals already on
the year in eleven games. And then the puck is
loosened the Neutrals on over to try and pick it up,
as Minnesota has put up a total of thirty six
shots now in the game, the Badgers have forty, but
they're up with five on the board and Wisconsin's loan
(02:08:13):
goal was Cassie Hall for eleventh of the year. They
move it in, there's a shot and another rebound went
past Riah Stewart as Wisconsin will turn and try to
bring it out, trying to get some experience for Riah
because she could potentially.
Speaker 5 (02:08:29):
Be the one when the Olympics are on that'll be
in goal for the Badgers.
Speaker 4 (02:08:34):
As Ava McNaught, and they got a golfer back away
from the play that may be hurt.
Speaker 5 (02:08:39):
There's a drive and cover up in the save is made.
Speaker 15 (02:08:43):
Is that Murphy? I think that's Murphy down there taking
her time to get up slowly behind the extended goal
line near her right leg. Seems to be bothering her, Paul.
Speaker 4 (02:08:57):
And she's having trouble getting off the ice. Croud appreciating
their giving her a round of applause.
Speaker 15 (02:09:05):
Yeah, I'm glad she's all right. No penalty involved, so
it was clean play. I think her and Leela Edwards
just collided at the wall.
Speaker 5 (02:09:15):
Leilah went back and looked and that type of thing.
Speaker 24 (02:09:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:09:21):
Yeah, one remaining here and the trainer over by the
Minnesota bench. They're talking with Abby.
Speaker 15 (02:09:31):
I hope she's okay. Don't like anybody getting hurt, and.
Speaker 4 (02:09:35):
It's going to be set up to play down in
the corner on the far side. Abby obviously is a
definite put. Well call her a candidate, but she's going
to be on the Olympic team.
Speaker 15 (02:09:46):
There's yeah, I think it's a safe bet there ball.
Speaker 4 (02:09:48):
Yeah, unless hopefully she's not injured right at all and
we're not playing the Olympic team because she's a great player. Yep,
she sure is and face off up.
Speaker 15 (02:10:00):
Like you said, she's got fifteen goals already.
Speaker 5 (02:10:02):
Yeah, yeah, seven a great year.
Speaker 15 (02:10:06):
That's a lot of goals.
Speaker 4 (02:10:08):
And the face off just outside the blue line. And
Ava McNaughton said when we interviewed her, she said she's
a nice person when you get to know her off
the ice. Yeah, I suppose, very pleasant, friendly, outgoing. Yeah,
kind of a leader in the locker room. And she
said she'd be a good teammate.
Speaker 15 (02:10:28):
She even said cool. Well, yeah, I'm glad to hear
her say that.
Speaker 1 (02:10:32):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:10:33):
Now, Abby is turning around and she's sitting up toward
the bench, good standing up, kind of taking a look,
so maybe she's going to be okay. Laid out of
the far side and controlled one twenty three remitting here
in this third period of play Minnesota with a victory
(02:10:53):
over the Wisconsin Badgers, stopping those streaks we were talking
about earlier.
Speaker 5 (02:11:00):
Abby's up and kind of walking it off down on
the bench, so she apparently's okay, comes around over to
Aba Murphy played back down in behind, moving is over
to talk to Murphy on the bench as it's going
to be set up. One minute remainting in the period
going around over trying to control it and.
Speaker 4 (02:11:23):
Plays down deep in the zone in the corner, and
here's Pekanagan Pekanagen coming in.
Speaker 5 (02:11:29):
Tried to slide it through and around on the far side.
Speaker 4 (02:11:33):
It's going to be played out and Mackenzie with it
down to thirty four seconds are minting and play continuing.
Badgers come back into the line at the blue line,
back over to pick it up and played back down
in the corner and going back over to try and
control it and coming off the boards on the near side.
(02:11:54):
Minnesota pins it down with sixteen seconds remitting as the
Badgers go back.
Speaker 5 (02:11:59):
In their own zone, wind it down yep, and.
Speaker 4 (02:12:15):
Minnesota comes up with the victory and they have stopped
the Badger's streak.
Speaker 5 (02:12:22):
They had a big victory. What's your thoughts here, greenne.
Speaker 15 (02:12:25):
Well one, stay out of the box number two, tighten
up on her own end a little bit, uh and
and don't pass in an area, don't force passes if
it's being contested. Just get dumping in deep you know
you can't. Can't try and put it somewhere where they're
gonna pick it off.
Speaker 4 (02:12:43):
Okay, Greennie, we'll see you tomorrow afternoon. They're lighting up
kk Harvey leading the way. The handshake among all the
players is uh yep. And Minnesota has now taken a
ten in one record to see the Badgers and they
take the victory.
Speaker 5 (02:13:01):
They're now ten and one as well. Thanks Paul, Okay,
we'll talk to you tomorrow. Adamisconsin, We'll be back after
this time out. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.

Speaker 4 (02:14:19):
We're back here and downstairs sistan head coach Dan Cook,
Dan Overall, how would you evaluate what happened here tonight?
Speaker 5 (02:14:28):
What would what did you see from down there?
Speaker 29 (02:14:32):
Uh, we really liked our start, you know, all of
each period except for the third period, and you know,
we were up one nothing. We had chances to go
up to nothing, and Clark played well and made some
good saves to keep it one nothing. And then they're
a team that can capitalize on mistakes, and we made
some mistakes managing the puck and they were able to
(02:14:53):
put it in the back of the net.
Speaker 5 (02:14:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:14:56):
What would you say were the breakdowns that you obviously
will be working trying to correct for tomorrow's game.
Speaker 29 (02:15:02):
Stuff we talked about all week taking care of the
puck in between the blue lines. We thought, whoever could
get the puck in deep behind the other teams that
would be more successful and they did that. If you
look at the opportunities, especially later half of the game,
they got the puck in below our goal line and
then we had some defensive breakdowns.
Speaker 4 (02:15:22):
Dan, you can say that Badgers were not at full strength,
but you could also say the Gophers got a couple
people out of the lineup. So I guess what I'm
saying is what we've heard about Minnesota and what you
guys said and what you saw is their club is
deeper and better than they've been in the last couple
of years.
Speaker 29 (02:15:40):
Right, Oh, definitely, Yeah, yeah. We obviously a lot of
our players are teammates with those players on the national
teams of their countries, and they're they're heavily loaded, and
they're a very good, strong opponent.
Speaker 4 (02:15:54):
And ava you gave an opportunity to get a little
bit of a break, so Stewart gets some playing time.
Speaker 5 (02:16:00):
Right Yeah.
Speaker 29 (02:16:01):
Yeah, it's the third part of a game. We've got
to see her, and I thought Ryan made some really
good saves, especially on Murphy there at the end. She
came out and got her feet set and made a
great save. And yeah, it was great to have her
have that opportunity. Obviously, we wish it would have been
a different circumstance.
Speaker 5 (02:16:19):
Well, and we knew that the day was going to come.
Speaker 4 (02:16:21):
You guys had won twenty three games in a role
you were on beaten in your last thirty seven. You
were twenty seven zero to one in your last twenty
eight games at labon. It couldn't last forever, right, and
maybe this is a learning experience and motivational too.
Speaker 29 (02:16:35):
Huh yeah, definitely, yeah, we you know, I don't think
it was as you know what the score said. It
was a much closer game than that. But we definitely,
you know, need to continue to work on things. Some
players got more minutes tonight than that normally do, and
I thought they handled it pretty well. And I thought
the big part was their goalie. Their goalie did well
(02:16:58):
through the first period and a half where we could
have gone up maybe two or three goals, and she
kept it one nothing. And then we just had some
breakdowns that they capitalized on.
Speaker 5 (02:17:07):
Dan, appreciate you giving us some time. Thank you very much.
You appreciate it. That's Dan Cook, they head assistant head
coach of the Wisconsin Badgers down in the locker room, and.
Speaker 4 (02:17:20):
Let's replay the highlights of this game. We're not going
to play all of the Minnesota goals. But Wisconsin only
got one and that came in the first period at
the six forty two mark of the period and right
with it and it's played to the blowline of Minnesota.
Dump deck down on the corner on the far boards.
Badgers try to pinch with Eden along with Scandal to
(02:17:42):
hole the attacking zone back in behind that Minnesota will
turn and out they come on the right wing. They
give it to Harvey, give and go behind her back
tucked on the pass in front shut.
Speaker 5 (02:17:54):
Oh, what a save.
Speaker 4 (02:17:57):
Unbelievable by Hannah Clark Are coming back through and then
open net shot was turned away to Minnesota coming out
and moving it in all alone shot. They'll hit the
pipe in the funnel. They got a major break there
is the rebound. Wow, did they get a break round
(02:18:18):
over to pick it up, Jordan with it, moving it
toward the front of the net.
Speaker 5 (02:18:21):
Big traffic there shot a goal.
Speaker 4 (02:18:24):
Murphy Abby Murphy gets the goal for fifteenth of the
year and the Gophers laid at five to one.
Speaker 15 (02:18:34):
Winding and do yep and Murphy.
Speaker 4 (02:18:39):
That was her fifteenth goal of the year and she
is tops in goal scoring and you can see that
she is a premier player. Obviously will be on that
Olympic team as well. And Minnesota did the job, especially
in the third period here when it was one point
one and they scored at two, ten of the period,
(02:18:59):
four eight of the period, eight twenty three at eight
point fifty two and skate away with the five to
one win. So for Aiden Michaels along with Bradley Burg.
Back at the studios for Mark Greenhold, I'm Paul Brown.
Thank you for joining us. We'll be back on the
air tomorrow afternoon, game two of the series, and hopefully
(02:19:20):
