Here's the voice of Badger Hockey, Brian Posick.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I'm a big tap.

Badger's Home White Cardinal helmets and trim and Wisconsin diagonally
down the chest, skating right to left in this opening
(01:21):
period against the maroon and gold clad Minnesota Golden Gophers,
who are trying to snap a three game losing streak.
Buck is out near the Minnesota line. Here's Luke Middlestat
going D to D to Finn McLaughlin. He'll carry it
up near the benches and dump it into the Wisconsin
zone to our right. Zach Schulz got to the wall
near side, but the Gopher is able to hold the
zone at the point. Mason Mose starting at center, the
(01:42):
freshman from Dyna prier Eden Prairie, that is, with Beckett
Hendrickson on the left wing, another freshman Tate Pritchard on
the right wing, buck loose in the corner of the
Wisconsin zone. Deckheimer skates away from pressure, then hits the brakes,
turns back behind the net. Gophers will change, so will
the Badger's forty seconds into the opening period.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
Interesting that it's been pinning in their own zone the
whole time. Once they get the puck, everybody just vacates,
And I'm pretty sure that deck Sheimer felt lonely back there,
like do I have bad breath or what's going on?
How come everybody's leaving?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Here's Gavin Morrissey slides it back to Pladachuck. Badgers break
out of their own zone. Aiden Dubinski playing with Pilata
Chuck tonight with Hensler out. Here's Simon Tassi at the
right wing. Try to get it deep off of skater too.
Morrissey's got it, bumped it back out of the point,
held in by Dubinski, sweeps it behind the net. Now
Bottrel try to put it in front.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
It's loosing.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
The skates of Tassy tied up by the defenseman Jacob Brombach,
and apparently the puck either in the mid of Aria
or on the netting, possibly behind the cage. Whistles stop
play a face off to come in the Minnesota zone
a minute fifteen in would have taken.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
Some sort of perfection to get that puck pass to
goaltenders right our left pad. Excuse me, he had it
blocked off pretty good, So I would assume that I
would go with your second theory.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It's on the netting, on the side of the net.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Ary beat the Badgers here in Madison a year ago,
stopping twenty eight of thirty shots in a three to
two victory for the Golden Gophers, who swept the regular
season series from Wisconsin a year ago, but the Badgers
won the first one on Thursday night of this season.
We'll see if they can complete a sweep here on
home ice. Kyle Kuchanan on the ice with Blake Montgomery
(03:20):
and Vasili Zillanoff, and Montgomery's point pass a little bit
past Wisconsin's Dubinsky and the Badgers back into their own zone.
Dominsky hard rim around Kuchanon let it go under his stick.
Zilanoff will catch up to it, try to get it deep,
and the line's been gotten the way. Then he retrieved
the puck and found kuchanin coming in right wing. His
shot was partially blocked. Montgomery digs it freeze, Zilanoff tried
(03:42):
to put it on goal, instead blocked away by Axel Begley,
Normally a defenseman. Because Minnesota is shorthanded up front, Begley
listed as the fourth line right winger. The Minnesota native
and former member of the Wisconsin Wind to Go getting
his first shifts at four here tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I would like to know where they came up, What
is the wind to go? What is that I want
to know, Mia man, I want to say it's some
sort of.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
I don't know, if it's a deer, some sort of animal.
We can look that up. Or if somebody wants to
shoot us some information on social media, feel free.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
You know.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
I understand Badgers and yeah, go all the rest of
the sure mascots or logo team names or whatever.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
But I've never heard of a wind to go all right.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
The Badgers have the pucket center ice Adam Piedle, that
made his season debut on Thursday night after scoring one
goal and three points as a freshman in thirty one games.
A year ago long range shot by Wisconsin's Jack Phalen
blocked and gathered in by Graham Harris. He's a sophomore
from Minnetaka transfer from Division III Augsburg. Badrews have the
(04:52):
puck in their own zone. Grady Deering able to flip
into the corner. Brewno e John, freshman from Croatia, got
knocked down at the Wisconsin blue line, got up and
looked for the ref to maybe have his hand up.
It wasn't the case, Brody zeemer give and go with
l J. Mooney instead. The puck taken away by Quinn Finley.
Battling on the near side wall, able to lift it
out to center. Mo now has it for Minnesota, and
(05:15):
he fired it right into the back of the linesman
Pat Richardson, and Richardson actually turned and looked at the
Gophers and blamed himself for the fact that they weren't
able to get a deep Badgers have possession of the
puck three point fifteen in neither team with a shot
on goals so far.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
Yes, this has been pretty much the most lackluster three
minutes that we've had in a long time.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Here comes Finley up the ice, now taps it off
for Tulk. Wanted a refeed, but he was defended. Tulk
flings went far side, Dexheimer off the wall, tried to shoot,
locked away by Minnesota's Max Rude.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Back them up, Finny and.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Finley got knocked down dex Shimer on one knee as well.
Puck slies to the near side. Good hustle by Christian
Fitzgerald to get to it before the Gophers. Good and
Wisconsin will regroup back in its own end. Zach Schulz
fires ahead for talk too hot to handle Wisconsin as
Ice the Puck our Game title sponsor this weekend Alliant
Energy building a strong resilient energy future today and for
(06:14):
generations to come.
Speaker 6 (06:17):
Zach Schultz better take a little mustard off those passes,
those ones that are eighteen inches off the ice at
forty miles an hour.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Got to knockdown and get into the zone. Face off
to the right of Daniel Hauser. Oliver Tulk won that
face off. Fitzgerald with possession, actually skated back into traffic.
And now Ben Dexzheimer has to hustle back into his
own zone and goes D to D with shoals his
outlet passed if Fitzgerald handcuffed him.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Not very crisp. No coming out of his zone. Neither team. Nope.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Now here's Leo Gruba. Sawmore defenseman six to five from
Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
You'll send it in, but dex Sheimer first there, hard
rim around.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Tassi had a step on the defenseman, but he couldn't
pull it off the kick plate. Now Morrisey pokes it past.
Druba comes in low right. You just can't get a
shot off. It bounced off his stick. Botterrel now over
skates Wisconsin's Dubinski behind the net. Morrissey right through the
middle slot pass caught by Bottrel as he was going
one way back the other turnaround shot now by Bottrel,
(07:17):
sticked aside by Airy. Now Morrissey tries to cycle down
low for Wisconsin's Tassy, but Gruba took the buck away.
The Gophers escaped their zone. Now five minutes gone by
no score, Still no shots on goal. They say, I
thought Aery got a piece of one from Bottrel.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
A moment ago.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Good back check by the Golden Gophers, and they'll fly
into the offensive zone with the puck as Javon Moore freshman,
very talented young lad in Ottawa.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Senator's draft choice.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Now here's Jimmy Clark, said, ding Ah Pritchard. He's denied
by Howser in tight five feet away. How's her big
stop early? Now Clark from the right wing. Howser stops
him too. Clark gets it back right, dot Com shoots again,
Howser saved, tries to get to the rebound and does
Daniel Howser sharp early while his teammates not so much.
Howser very very good on that sequence.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
First five minutes of the period, the Badgers are right
on top of people, not letting them breathe so not
getting any shots on net. The similar situation in the
Minnesota zone, but this last shift of forty five seconds
where there were a stick length away and not really
on top of their man, and it.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Only took the two defensemen at that point in time.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
I'm trying to think who it was, Joe Pullouto Chuck
and Dubinski, and I just get in a situation where
when they locked down, at least it gave the goaltender
Howser an opportunity to make a save and cover up.
And that's exactly what he had to do on that
three or four shot flurry that Minnesota had.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Fans still filing in here tonight.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
The lower bowl is mostly full, the second deck getting there.
The students certainly have shown up here tonight. You yeah,
and they're up into the second deck. Great to see
and still coming in. Gopher's forced a turnover. Brody Zeemer,
the Buffalo Sabers draft choice, dumped it in. Luke Osburn,
also a Sabers draft pick, got to it first but
lost it to Harris, who rims it out to the
(09:13):
point middle stat Now to Harris right wing turnaround shot
hit his teammate John Middlestat in the shin guard and
the Badger is able to possess, although the puck off
of stick bounced right to Zeemer walked in low right
and Howser protected the near post and made another save.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Four for four. So far.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Unfortunate bounce for the Badgers, but Howser there to stop Zemer.
Zeemer now nice pass up the middle and Howser with
a bucker save on a step shot from Mason Mo.
Gopher's half possession again, John Whipple near side. Begley looking
back pedal, sends it deepest Stick in the way again,
Shoals tying up Hendrickson, Moe pushing a man down. Now
(09:52):
the Badgers half possession of the puck. Adam Piedla tries
to skate out does but from behind Lamb picked his
pocket and Minnesota on side.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I will pick it up and whip it in Mottmar
puck control by Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
Then we saw any at any time on Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Five shots on goal for the Gophers, none for Wisconsin.
They say thirteen to fifteen to go. In the first
Jack horback out there. He fumbled the puck. It's loose
to laid off side. Deering will touch up. Lamb will
pick up the loose biscuit. Brody Lamb, the senior captain
from Byron, Minnesota, former Green Bay Gambler, having a pretty
good senior campaign with four goals, seven points and nine
(10:29):
games that he's played a goal and two assists in
the series against North Dakota.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
You'll recall his.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Dad, Jeff, played for the Denver Pioneers not too long ago,
twenty plus thirty years ago or so.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Here's Gruba. Now.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
A couple of guys tied up in the corner, Palada,
Chuck and Lamb. The referees let him play on Mooney
with a puck, gets it in, fire, is it in?
And now Houser back behind the net, actually stepped on
the broken stick and had to shake it out of
his skate. Wisconsin's got possession, Finley across the line. Two
on two, Finley why left shoots one low, Aery saved
and he covers. Badgers finally get a shot on goal
(11:05):
from their top goal scorer from a year ago, Quinn Finley.
But Airy made this stop and then covered time out
on the ice. With twelve twenty four to go in

Speaker 2 (12:36):
No score white out at the Coal Center, Badgers hosting
Minnesota offensive Zone face off four. Wisconsin still lose Tulk
looking for it. Fitzgerald tried to dig it free, still
between some skates. Finley goes to get it, bumps it
out to the point in Osburn he'll set it to
the corner. Tulk, tied up by a rob bocket, goes
to the far side. Fitzgerald revers his course. Tulk had
already left that area, but Osburn comes down the wall,
(12:59):
gets session and flips it back behind the net for
Fitzgerald puts one towards the front of the net, but
Tulk forced wide. Oliver controlling passed to the left circle
that got between the legs of Finley. Good hustle by
Flan to get it deep and then he's bumped away
from the near the Gophers bench. But the Badgers have
the puck. Falan out high right shot block slot, turn
around shot.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Finley stars oh.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Finley fired that one home right past Dre's plucker.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
What nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
You know that was all set up by hard work
because there were so many opportunities where the Badgers and
the Gophers just kept it to the wall, kept it
to the wall, kept it to the wall. Then it
went off a skate and the defenseman takes a shot.
There's a rebound out in front. Guess who's standing all
alone by himself in the slot.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Quin Finley, And he made no question about it. He
put a top stick.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Shelf yep Finley eight seventeen the first period, his fourth
goal this season. He's had a goal in each of
the Badgers four series this season. He extends his point
scoring streak to five games. Quinn Finley is fourth from
Jack Fhalen and Oliver Tulk at eight seventeen.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
Boy, it's been a defensive struggle, Yeah, for both teams.
It's an offensive struggle for both teams, I should say,
because they're playing so well defensively.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Second shot on goal of the night finds the back
of the nets. That's a sad statistic when you think
about it.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Oh yeah, shoals will keep it deep in the attacking
zone for Wisconsin. Rude and Tassie going at it near corner.
Puck slides free middle stat to his brother John and
then it's banked out by rude and all the way down.
Jack Schultz goes to get it down. Quinn Finley can
be a game breaker that time. It was a broken
(14:47):
play after Falen's shot was blocked and the puck ricochet
of the high slot in Finley able to reach turn
and shoot and he found the back of the nets.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
I mean he was standing there all alone because nobody
knew where the deflection was going to go.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Right and yeah, Finley's just lucky the Irish.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Here's Montgomery with some speed in the offensive zone after
Kuchanon took a pretty good pop to get.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
It into the attacking end.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
And now Minnesota's Begley has it to the near side.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Lamb.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
They'll try to break out, but force back deep and
John Whipple with it now around the wall but not out.
Gopher's getting hemmed in by Montgomery, Couchanon and Zilinoff and
the Badger's forced a turnover. Montgomery with it looking shooting
and he rose it too high. He had Zilanoff coming
down the left side. Blake elected to shoot the puck
and miss the nets. I think he made the right
(15:36):
decision to shoot it. And now Moe got planted to
the ice as he escaped his zone, but in the
process Kyle Kuchanan lost his helmet. That's an immediate whistle
from the referee, stopping play for safety reasons. The Badgers
had the puck in the offensive end, but it had
to stop, and they'll drop the puck outside the Gophers zone.
Ten minutes to go in the first period, won nothing, Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I guess that's why you used your chin strap. Make
sure it's on.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
It was a good hit, but there was no contact
by either player up by the head and cooking and
just on their reaction of it as helmet goes off,
and it caused the delay. And excuse me because the
whistle and you just get into a situation where the
Badgers were in control coming into the zone at that
point in time.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Badgers with a puck after winning the neutral ice face off,
but the Gophers take it away. Rombach up ahead now
Pritchard too far for him. Osburn after it, Pritchard right
in his hip pocket, but Wisconsin gets to it. Jack
Failing supporting his deep partner Osburn. Now Oliver Tulk will
sweep it behind the Wisconsin net and Osburn goes to
(16:42):
get it. Bank to pass ahead. Intendant for Fitzgerald too
far off the wall and icing on Wisconsin. American Family
Insurance is the official insurance partner of UW Athletics. Visit
amfam dot com Slash Badgers all season long for exclusive content,
Badger fans, sweepstakes and more. And now the silly's zillingoff
(17:03):
going off the ice towards the Badger's locker room, and
I'm not certain why. It looks like Andy Roadie up
the Badger's trainer went with him. So the Badger's third
line freshman center's zilanoff headed to the locker room for
some attention making that too.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
And now Fitzgerald got clobbered.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Right by the Minnesota bench and he's slow to get
up and now bent over at the waist and Nate
la Point now the acting trainer on the bench talking
with FITZI to make sure he's okay, And he's favoring
his left arm.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Yeah, arm, shoulder, elbow, whatever the case may be. But
that's where the hunched over and tucking it in. Yeah,
and he's still bent over sitting on the bench.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
You know, Wisconsin Ian was the aggressor last night when
it came to physical play. The Gophers a little bit
more so tonight, aren't they?
Speaker 6 (17:54):
Yeah, they are, and I think that they've been told
follow through, finish your check every time you get the chance.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Ashcross, intended for Piedla, got caught up in his skates,
Gophers taken away, Zeemer can't get it past pilatachuck into
Wisconsin line and Joe will skate ahead. Joe weaves his
way into the Minnesota and in Zip's a rister that's
glubbed by Harry and he hangs on with a thirty
four to go in the first one nothing Wisconsin lead.
Finley his fourth goal of the year from Falan and
(18:20):
talk for Falen, that's his fourth assist this season, and
for Oliver Tulk his first point in four games.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
We're not going to curse failing and say this could
be the night he gets his first goal, are well, you.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Just did curse him this forty fourth collegiate game, and
you know he actually has matched his point total from
his freshman campaign with four assists and we're only eight
games in. Here's Ryan botterrel now with Tassy and Morrissey.
Botterrel stick candling finding Tassy right wing. A whirling turnaround
(18:57):
shot by Tassy went wide. Then from a long range
Pallota Chuck kicked out by Airy. Morrissey moves it around
to the right point and Dubinsky Badger's kind of getting
their game going here a little bit ian, a lot
of chuck will flip it into the corner.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
As long as they have fuck control, they'll get that
one shot like Plata Chuck tuck and everything will be good.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
A lot of chuck change his places with Dubinsky. Dubinski,
now at the left point, skips a shot in pad
saved by Airy Botterill tried to throw it in from
the left corner that didn't get through, and now Minnesota
is Jimmy Clark with a puck. Clark will send it
in off the end boards, bounces behind the Badger's net.
Dubinsky went one way, the Gophers went the other, and
Clark got possession quickly, and then he got bumped away
(19:37):
for the biscuit by Dubinsky, and Wisconsin's got it back
aiden Dubinsky. The Minnesota Duluth transfer double of assists so
far as a Wisconsin Badgers. The Badger's dump it into
the attacking zone. Montgomery squashed by Whipple along the end boards,
but Blake fights through it. Montgomery is still possessing his
long reach, keeping Whipple at bay out to the point.
(19:59):
Now Phelan thought about shooting, instead placed it back behind
the net again. Whipple be deering to the puck, then
poked it away from Kuchen and Kyle still for checking.
So's Montgomery. Badger's hammer it deep again. Deering cuts off
the defense bin Begley Osbourne can't get to it near wall,
and it comes rolling out through center ice in the
Badger's back to get it one nothing, Wisconsin six fifty
(20:20):
to go in the first Ooh, big hit from a
hud by the Badgers Deering.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
He turned Robert hendricks.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
In and went in hard into the near wall, and
now the Gophers and Badgers need to be separated.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Good thing.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Hendrickson's okay, he got up really quickly after Deering popped
him pretty good. But the Badger's freshman is going to
get them gates for at least two minutes time out
on the ice. With six fifty to go first period,
Wisconsin's up one nothing.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
This is Badger hockey from lar Field.

All the referees David Marcott and Sean Bernandez looking at
video to determine whether Grady Deering should get a five
minute major or just a two minute minor, And how
come Sean Fernandez two minute minor for boarding on Grady Dearing,
So the Badger's shorthanded here for the next couple of minutes.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
Yeah, I don't think the Minnesota A bench would concuess
that if they saw the replay the same as we did.
You get into a situation where, at least from my perspective,
just as he was about to get hit, he turned
his back. Yeah, then kind of fell into the boards,
and Deering just continued on and squashed them.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Minnesota on the power play one for three last night.
Just three power play goals in twenty four tries this season,
about twelve percent. Sisconsin penalty kill at eighty one percent
this season. With Jack Horbach, Gavin Morrissey, Joe Polata, Chuck
and Aiden Dubinski on the ice right now on the PK,
the Gophers have l J. Mooney, Jimmy Clark, Brody Zeemer,
(23:00):
Brody Lamb, and Leo Grubba, big defenseman right hander will
fire it in left corner to rights.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Morny loves to handle the puck.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah, here's Zeemer now right wing out to the point
he goes but actually never got to Mooney, taken away
by Horbach, who hands off to Morrissey and then Morrissey
will set it in and now he's tied up with
Zeemer at center ice.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Those two going at it a little bit. Well, here's
a nice thought. Yeah, Christian's back out on the ice.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Good to see Fitzgerald with Finley on this penalty killed
Gophers may have just gotten away with an icing failing
gets to the puck behind the Wisconsin net and whips
it around and out the Gopher's back to get it.
Leo Gruba Clark Cup champion with Fargo a couple of
years ago, USHL Defensive Player of the Year. The quarterback
on this number one power play lamb to Mooney and
(23:50):
Mooney couldn't.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Control the pass, but Joles heaved it all the way down.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
He likes to handle the puck, but he's not too
aggressive to try and go and get it when he
loses it.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yeah, forty five seconds left on the Minnesota power play.
Luke Middlestead gets up and goes right through the center
circle trying to get around Dubinski and does chase it
down in the far corner to the near side. Now
and Prichard Prichard stick kandling, the right hander bumps it
out to the point. Mo has control right side walks down.
Now passed back to the center point and Luke Middlestead
(24:19):
too far. Middlestad was going right, the puck went to
his left and out of the zone. Badgers only have
twenty seconds left to kill off on this Minnesota man advantage.
Howser can't stop the puck behind his net now covers
the far post just in case Wisconsin got to it
and whipped it around and out.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Nice job by the Badgers again to clear Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
It's been kind of a comedy of mistakes for Minnesota.
Even when they get into the zone and they have
clear control, they're trying to make it a cross ice
pass and bounces whatever.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Badger's made that penalty kill look easy.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
They get the job done, deering out of the box
Finley with a puck, Wisconsin out of its own Finley
will chip and Chase. Can he get around Whipple in time.
Looks like Prichard will get there first, but he up
the puck, recovered and bounced it off to Gruba, who
takes a bump from Tassie. He releases it to center
and the Badgers have it back. Osburn now little shake
Head and shoulder fake and he sends it into the
(25:11):
right corner of the offensive zone. Tassy with a high
hit and the Gophers lifted back to center, but the
Badgers get it right back. Botterol turns left, had it
pooked away by Javon Moore. One on one the other
way against Sack Schulz more with it left circle, shoots
one low. Hauser saved in the corner. Daniel Hauser stopped
all six shots he's faced so far. Wisconsin up one nothing,
four minutes to go in the first.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
Yeah, Minnesota hasn't had many many shots, to be honest
with you, but they've had some quality shots.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Early on Hawser had it come up big twice for
the Badgers, had coughed up the puck in the offensive zone.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
A broken stick out in the way on.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
One quality effort for the Gophers, and now the Badgers
Osbourne will scoop it out to center.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
And Tassy with them.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Monster hit on Whipple freed the puck for Botterl but
he couldn't carry it to the net had it poked
off his stick.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Oh, keep your head up, young man.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Big hit by Tassy, now deering with the puck, wanted
to drop it to the point, instead sweeps it deep.
Ben Dexheimer, the defenseman captain down in the offensive zone.
Try to make something happen. Now he gets knocked down
from behind. Deering placed it to the corner, but Rude
took it from there. He can't clear Dexheimer good hold
left side that he got popped by. Zeemer went down
the back up on his skates.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Don't kick cocky Bendett. Scheimer put it in the corner.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Here's Mooney waiting patiently made cutting to the net, and
Mooney got so far low that he couldn't get the
pass to Paulse and tried to go upstairs, missed the net.
Badgers the other way. Centering passed for Bruno e John
from Piedla didn't get through.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
It was a three on two and Bruno or Adam
Piedla just couldn't control the buck.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Buck behind the net. Now Morrissey after it.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
He's slowed and a holding penalty coming up here in
a moment on Minnesota hed time, Eric Paulson just grabbed Morrissey.
Badgers have the puck. Extra attacker coming. Dubinski shoots one low.
Oh it may have hit the near side post and
then off Piedla, who is going back door, Airy covers
and Wisconsin will get its ACUNAS power play leading one
nothing late first period to.
Speaker 6 (27:07):
Thirty seven left here in the first period in total
domination in the offense of zone for about the last
minute to a minute and a half by the Badgers,
both defensive men, defenseman and forwards pinching, making good passes,
making good plays. Two minute minor goes up on the
board and Badgers with two thirty seven have this chance
to put a little more icing on the cake with
this power player.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Aleric Paulson is sophomore from Sweden.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Two minutes for holding at seventeen to thirteen ACUNAS power
play for the Badgers, they're converting at thirty two percent
this season, ten of thirty one, two for four last night,
five of thirteen over the last three games. Wisconsin wins
to draw dex Sheimer with it Warrisey open left side.
Now dex Sheimer straightaway shoots one blocked down. Tassi takes
a whack at it as Airy stopped it. Then from
(27:53):
behind the net, Tassi tried again. Harry had to keep
that one out and now leaning to his left on
his knees, the Minnesota goldtetd aer Cover gets a whistle.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
I just been looking.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
I haven't seen zelenof come back to the bench by
any chance. And h you know, I've always wondered, how
do you determine whether you're going to dress an extra
defenseman and extra forward.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Dressing the extra forward tonight seems like, uh who, that's
a good decision, coach. Thirteen forwards for Mike Hastings tonight.
Speaker 6 (28:20):
Now down to twelve and four lines of three. Yeah,
makes things easier.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
To pair or three pair of defenseman. With Logan Hensler
out with an illness, Badgers win the offensive zone face off.
Morrissey out to dex Shimer. He started moving before the
pucked out to him and he fumbled it. So the
Badgers have to touch up two ten to go here
in the opening period once o Wisconsin, Morrisey just wiped
out in his own zone as the Badgers were going
to work on their power play breakout. And now here's
(28:48):
dex Sheimer right down the middle. Feather to pass to
the far side, tracked down by Tassie, sends it around
the near wall. Morrissey open man slot, Fitzgerald passed behind him.
Dex Shimer kept it alive in the attacking zone goal
line right, it's Tassy behind the net, Morrissey left side,
setting up Fitzgerald. His shot left arm saved by Arian
up and out of play. Good puck movement by the
Badgers and Fitzgerald, as he told us last night, a
(29:11):
shoot first mentality. He did not waste time getting that pass.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
No, he didn't.
Speaker 6 (29:15):
And it all developed from a broken play. He saw
that the Morrissey struggled with the puck. Here shoots it
all the way around dex Sheimer has trouble corraling it.
And then when Tassie gets it behind the net, everybody
gets set up and it's bing bang bong, and we
get a good shot on net. So back to the
matter of being, take a broken play and make it
into a good play.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
That's a positive shift.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
With Henzler out, Osburn will run the second power play unit.
He's got the puck of the blue line. Osburn looking
left side outside the ring is Tulk back to Osburn
right wing. Now Montgomery, botter Rol in the pump position,
Kukinen in front, and a shot trickled off. A couple
of bodies went to the corner. Tulk retrieved fifty seconds
left on the cun's power play, Wisconsin, trying to add
(29:55):
to its one nothing lead, Tulk head and shoulder fake
slot drop back left side Osburn. He shoots one too high,
comes off to Dasher all the way out to the point.
Tulk kept it alive, snapped off a pass cross ice
for Osburn out of his reach, and the Gopher is
able to clear Minnesota on the penalty kill. This season,
sixty nine percent have allowed eight power play goals in
twenty six chances. But Mooney, with a steel turn around
(30:17):
shot in front of the net by Andrickson, missed it.
He went twirling around three sixty, fell off balance down
to the ice, but still got to rocket off and
missed the net by a foot.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
Badgers forgetting about their defensive responsibilities when there's when they're shorthanded.
When they get back into the zone, they just kind
of like, WHOA, let's go get the fucking get it.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
I'll get out of here. But it didn't work that way.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Gophers have a one short handed goal so far this
season from Tanner Lucky, who didn't make the trip to
Madison because of an illness. Gopher is able to clear
off that power player kill off that power play, just
like the Badgers had done to Minnesota earlier in this period,
So both teams at full strength. It's one nothing Wisconsin.
Final half minute of play. A lot of chuck sends in.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Off the wall.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
A shot got through off the stick of Piedle. It
kicked out by Ariy right to Pritchard, gains the red
line and throws it to the left corner of the
Wisconsin zone. Shoals after it bumps it off for Dubinski,
went between his legs all the way out to Bruno
e John who protects at the Badger blue line.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Five seconds left. Shoals now to the right wing.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
He'll backhanded in the corn will sound and Wisconsin as
a one nothing lead. After the opening period of play.
Quinn Finley scores his fourth of the year from Jack
Falin and Oliver Tulk at eight seventeen, the Badgers on
top of the Golden Gophers. Hey Badger fans, if you're

May first intermission report brought to you by American Family
Insurance and Sure Carefully dreamed fearlessly American Family Insurance. Here
at the Cole Center in Madison, a whiteout fans see
Wisconsin score the low goal in the opening period of
one nothing Badger's lead Wisconsin out shot in Minnesota on
goals nine to six in that opening frame. Nathan Airy
(35:19):
eight saves for the Gophers, Daniel Hauser perfecting goal for
the Badgers. Both teams had a power play unable to convert.
Both teams with one penalty, Wisconsin one eleven of fifteen faceoffs,
Kevin Morrissey four out of five. Vasili's Zillanof was three
for three, but then went to the locker room. Didn't
see him return, and that forces Mike Hastings to shuffle
(35:41):
things up a little bit with his thirteen forwards in
the lineup.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what he does actually
with Zellanoff gone. I'm not sure if he won't just
bump Grady Dearing up one shot and move either Horbach
or eat John into the middle of that fourth line.
I'm not one hundred percent sure, but it is nice
(36:05):
to have that luxury of not having to shuffle all
four lines because you dressed the extra forward.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, Christian Fitzgerald played center the last two years, but
I don't think you're going to be breaking up him
tulk at Finley.
Speaker 6 (36:15):
Right, Probably not in any situation that they can be together.
It's a lot better off than he's trying to split
them up. But you know what, I look at Finley
and I look at Talk, and maybe not so much
with Quinn Finley, but the first two that I mentioned, I.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Think they can play with anybody.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Sure, you know, they just kind of good universal players
or all round players, whatever you want to call it.
I'm not so sure that Quinn can play any place
except left wing, or if he plays right wing, he's
got to have a left handed center who's going to
feed him instead of Talk the right handed center who's
going to feed him. So you know, all of those
things come into play when you're talking about changing lines
(36:58):
and changing positions with people. But for the most part,
I don't think there's any Badgers that are in any
danger of not being able to play all the positions.
It's just a matter of whether they can be better
with other people or not.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
At the first intermission, brought to you by American Family Insurance,
Wisconsin Leeds, Minnesota one nothing. We'll check the scoreboard when
we come back in ninety seconds. This is Badger Hockey

Ah with Ian parent Ryan Posik, Wisconsin Leeds won nothing
still about a minute until the second period begins. Like
to thank our producer Mason Sapp who answered the question
that Ian Parrin asked me that I didn't have an
answer to.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
What is a wind to go? Hello?
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Windigo is a monstrous creature from Algonquian folklore. Ave depicted
as a gaunt, cannibalistic giant with an insatiable hunger for
human flesh. Typically it looks like a deer monster and
that's what the logo is now you know. They were
in Eagle River for a few years, then relocated to
Brookfield this past year and John Mitchell, the former Badger
(38:18):
the head coach of the Wisconsin Wind to Go looking
for vasili zileenoff, but have yet to see him return
to the bench.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
I didn't see him skate out with the team, even
if he was just going to sit on the bench.
I remember when I separated my shoulder, I had to
sit on the bench in the second and third period,
and my coach said, well, you're only here because we
have sixteen players and if anybody's going to serve a penalty,
it's going to be you. I was useless in pain,
but right at the end of the period he goes, Okay,
(38:49):
we're done, you can go to the rest.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
I was like, oh great, all right, all right. That's
when the rosters in the East Coast League were sixteen
only amazing two goalies. He had two goalies.
Speaker 6 (39:03):
Yeah, and then when we got one goalie Hurt our
athletic trainer was a former goaltender, all five foot four
of them. Then he ended up playing in the third
period of one game. Wow, all right, both team's at
full strength. As we start period number two, Morrissey kicks
the puck to the red line and dex Sheimer and
he'll whipping around the.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Boards and the Badgers try to control, but ricochet's to
Beckett Hendrickson. He'll scoop it into the Wisconsin zone to
our left. Zach Schulz there fought through a slash from
Mo good breakout by the Badgers. Morrissey now through center
ice right wing, but ran into McLaughlin, the freshman defenseman,
and Minnesota able to place it back into Wisconsin zone
(39:45):
and get a change. Thirty seconds into the second period,
Quinn Finley scored at eight seventeen of the first the
lone markers so far here tonight. Then Dex Sheimer handling
the puck. Four assists in the last two games for
the bat Badgers captain Gavin Morrissey, He's got an assist
in each of the last four games. Does Wisconsin sophomore
(40:07):
centerman and the Badgers Aiden Dubinski will set it deep
into the Wisconsin offensive zone. Finley tried to poke it
past the defenseman, got the job done behind the net,
comes out to the right wing, turnaround shot Airy with
a save. He was watching all the way the goldtetter was.
Finley sometimes likes to shoot without looking. Airy was ready
for it.
Speaker 6 (40:27):
And if you'll notice Minnesota defenseman, look at all of
them boxed out a guy.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Finley over skates behind the net, giving Minnesota a chance
a centering pass to Zeemer.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
He was right outside the blue.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Paint, but couldn't get anything on Gold and the Badger's
fortunate there.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
Yeah, kind of lackluster minute and a half here were
both teams kind of the way.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
The first period started for Wisconsin, but the Badgers got
to their game eventually, Sometimes.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
It takes just a good hit by the opposition to
wake you up.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Yep, and Christian Fitzgerald got popped in the first period,
sat on the bench a while, but he's appears to
be no worse for the wear. And now Wisconsin's Montgomery
gets through a couple of gophers behind the Wisconsin net,
skates it out to the line but can't get it
out and Luke osburn back. Now for Wisconsin d to
d to Phalan Falan takes the ice available. Uh oh
(41:23):
kuk and and who got a hit from behind squashed
along the near side glass. Kyle's fine. He ads to
the Badger bench for a change.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
At least he had his chin strap on that tires.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Clark trying to feed ahead the lamb. He does, and
somehow Brody Lamb got a stick on it elevated the
puck at Houser, who snagged it with his glove and
hung on. I say, reactionary by the Badger's netmin Daniel Hauser.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yeah he did.
Speaker 6 (41:47):
I mean, you just get into a situation where Rody
Lamb took a swat at the goaltender's glove and Jack
Falan said, nope, don't do that not doing it. So
we'll see if any thing results out of this. But
I would say that Lamb for maybe contact with the goaltender,
and Jack Failing for putting Lamb and d lambs his
(42:11):
head through the glass.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
They're going to say slashing on Lamb and then okay,
Failing gets a cross check. Get Trump the matins yep.
So basically coincidental minors at two twenty and we will
skatee four on four for the next two minutes or
(42:35):
five on five? Is Bill Howard always likes to count
the goaltenders.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Yeah, Old goaltenders are like that. They kind of lose
perspective of the game when they get to bill'sie.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
All right, Brady deering out to face off against Mason Moe,
a couple of large freshmen, and Luke Middlestat with the
puck out near the Wisconsin blue line. Mo's it now
with Dexheimer on him Man de Man. Dexheimer stays with
him to the right wing out of the left point,
and Pritchard Osburn shadows him. Pritchard will sweep at right
(43:10):
corner to left and down the wall comes Gruba Ruba,
pestered from behind by Montgomery and the loose puck picked
up by Prichard, He's forced to center and then he
lost it to Blake Montgomery waddling his way into the
offensive zone. Was Luke Osburn spins it around Montgomery over skates.
Gophers have the puck Pritchard at the center circle to
(43:32):
Gruba drop past Mo He had a goal last night
at Mason Moe stick candling with Osburn on him. Good
play by Osburn to use his body and reach around
Mo and poke it free and the Badgers now possess
minute five to go. In this four on four, here's
Montgomery dangling his way into the offensive zone, try to
cut to the net, lost in edge, low right back
(43:53):
up on his skate, still battling, but John Whipple now
has it.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
Whipple a Detroit.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Red Wings fifth round draft pickup years ago, product to
the national team development program, as is LJ. Mooney, who
gets into the offensive zone, can't get a shot off
as he cut to the net, then tried to find
the trailer hendrickson the pass behind him as he was
flying down the right wing. And now Dubinsky to Morrissey.
The Badgers will back deep into their own zone. Gophers
(44:20):
will change Poladachuck season and here he comes. Gophers laid
on there change two on two or four on four.
That is a little flip pass with a backhand by
Morrissey hoping to spring Poladachuck up the middle.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Didn't work out and the Badgers back into their own zone.
This has been the quickest two minutes of four on
four that I can remember. It just seems like time
just flew. There's only ten seconds twelve seconds left in
this four on four. Now votteril right wing.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Fitzgerald finds an open man Shoal sets and fires in
a glove safe made by Area. He hangs on five
seconds left of the four on four with fifteen forty
four to go in the second one, nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
This will be.
Speaker 6 (44:58):
Uh Jack Falin Thankfully he's a defenseman. They come out
of the zone. Should Minnesota win the draw, you know
what they're going to do. They're just going to try
and throw it down the ice so that they're teammate
who is coming out of the Brody lamb who's coming
out of the penalty box could have some sort of
an offensive opportunity.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Piedla horback on the ice along with Osburn and Bruno,
e John so three forwards and one defenseman for the
offensive zone face off as the penalties expire, and now
Fhlan will join Osburn on the ice worked out fine, Yes,
it did. Badger's able to hold his zone left point,
(45:41):
Osburn pushed it deep.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Right wing.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Horbock gets a bump on Gruba back to the left
side and Osburn will rim it back to the corner.
Add a backhand passed by Horbock to the middle of
the ice, intercepted by the Gophers and they spring free
Jimmy Clark right wing. Now at Zeemer back to Clark
bounced a way off stick and then lamb was coming
down the left wing and it bounced over his stick.
Otherwise he may have been able to get a backhander off.
Speaker 6 (46:07):
Yeah, Pieddla got just enough of it to make it
a disruptive play.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Osbourne head man's now to e John right wing. Four
Gophers back e John low Wright tried to one hand
to pass over the left corner and talk didn't work
out for him, but e John keeps battling, got chopped
down to his knees and appenalty on Minnesota. The Gophers
will get a two minute minor for hacking at five
fifteen in Wisconsin will get a cue as power play
(46:31):
leading one nothing.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
It's interesting because no.
Speaker 6 (46:35):
Gopher at any point in time was making their way,
but now all of a sudden, John Whipple took a
two minute minor for slashing and the Badgers have the
opportunity to be on the power play with fourteen forty
five left here in the second period, leading one to nothing.
I like the fact that that whole first unit has
been rested for about the last two and a half minutes.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
Right, so Whipple part of their penalty kill leading shop
blocker in the box from Minnesota at five point fifteen,
they say, tripping on Whipple, and so Tassy, Morrissey, Fitzgerald,
Finley and Dexheimer on the ice. Morrissin directing traffic. Here
(47:18):
is Finley backpedals closer to the high slot and after
the face off whin Finley is opened straight away, but
just move the puck. Badgers will set things up in
an umbrella formation. Dex Sheimer straight away looking at Finley
top of the right circle. Morrisey trying to sneak backside,
Fitzgerald in front of the net. Tassy with a puck
left side down Morrissey, Badger's leading one nothing on a
(47:38):
power play here early second period, dex Sheimer's shot off
a body skipped wide. Gophers try to clear, but Morrissey,
protecting the far wall, holds the zone. Morrissey backside right,
Finley Hammerson at home. Beautiful look by Morrissey Quiffinley a
one time plast.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Power playing goal two nothing.
Speaker 6 (47:57):
Wisconsin took a little bit of time to set up,
and I was a little skeptical that they weren't trying
to go right across the backside to Tassi on the
back door. But once they didn't get a successful pass
across to Tassy, they just kind of looked for the
next option, and it was Quinn Finley who was top
of the circles. But nine times out of ten there's
(48:19):
not a player on the Badgers that could make that
shot and score. Quinn Finley is not that he is
the tenth one. He is the guy who can make
that shot and score. They work on it in practice
all the time.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Try to set up Finley with one timers from the
right circle, and he blasted that one past Nathan Airy
at five forty three. Gavin Morrissey should get the primary assist.
Tassy will get one as well. Second goal of the
night for Quinn Finley. Badgers lead the Gophers to nothing
and looking for more. Vacilly zill and Off is out
for Wisconsin. He's back on the ice after leaving in
(48:52):
the first period with an unknown injury. But Zilanoff is
fine and he's back centering Montgomery and.
Speaker 3 (48:58):
Kuchinin right now, and the Gophers have the puck.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
Begley tried to bump it ahead near the benches and
it went into the Wisconsin bench, stopping play.
Speaker 6 (49:09):
I guess what happens when you get old like me
and you have bad eyesight. I did not see Zelenoff
come out between that first and I said.
Speaker 3 (49:16):
It, excuse me.
Speaker 6 (49:17):
Between the first and second period, I did not see
him come out to the ice, and I was.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Looking for him periodically, but I was doing a couple
other things and eventually we see him out there.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
So that's good to know.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
Vacilis zilling Off from Moscow, Russia.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Oh, I'm gonna have to talk to Bruno.
Speaker 6 (49:35):
Yea, his hometown was the answer in the crossword puzzle today.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
Okay, here's h Here's Zilanoff. Face off, he lost it.
Gophers have the puck. Luke Middlesta sends it ahead to
Javon Moore to Pritchard. They break out for Clark can't
handle the puck that cent our eyes. Then he loses
a stick and the Madgers have the puck and Montgomery
slaloms his way into the offensive zone. Lost it, got
(50:01):
it back thanks to pull out of Chuck. Montgomery out
the failing sets and fires just missed love side on Airy.
After it Wisconsin's Kuchanan to the corner in Montgomery, Kuchanan
poked it towards the net, picked up though by Eric Paulson,
and the Gophers will settle things down. Minnesota's been struggling
to score this season, twenty two goals in nine games
(50:23):
so far. They've scored two goals or less six times
this season. They're down two to nothing right now. Keep
in mind Wisconsin last night had a two goal lead,
but Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Kept working at it, got.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
Within one, made it interesting, but the Badgers eventually finished
it off.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
In the third.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
Paulson a little flip sauce pass to Mooney as he
gets out of the defensive zone. He sends it into
the corner in Zeemer his pass back to Mooney. Look out,
Badgers turn it over backhatter by Paulson, block by Shoals,
who actually had his back turn to the shooter.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
I'm not sure who Quinn was trying to pass that
to me either.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
Here's talk now with it high slot, right wing, Fitzgerald backside.
Speaker 3 (51:02):
Cutting down the middle.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
Was Techheimer, but read nicely by the Gophers, who take
it away. Here's Mooney now back pedaling Shoals. He's got
a pivot. Mooney heart of the neck, got a shot off,
Houser kept it out. It's back behind the cage now
dex Sheimer double team slot pass, turn around shot John
Middlestead taken away by Fitzgerald. Lead feed Tulk, who was
set to change couldn't handle the pass at center, otherwise
(51:23):
he'd have a breakaway. Twelve to ten shots on goal
Wisconsin Badgers lead to nothing.
Speaker 6 (51:29):
I'm sorry, I'm old fashioned, but I hate this running
gun Gus. It's just one heart attack after another.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Piela looking for a pass from Horbock, knocked down by
the Gophers and taken by Brody Lamb bitch to pass
to John Middlesdad got by Pilotta, chuck but can't catch
up to the puck and it's trimmed out to center.
Piedla braces for a hit, protects the puck and dumps
it into the Gophers zone.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
But that's where.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Romback now will bump it off to his teammate. Harris
and John Middlestats breakout pass eludes Lamb, but Rombach catches
up to it and sends it in with eleven twenty
five to go. In this second, the Badgers lead to nothing.
Quinn Finley has scored a both one on even strength
one on a power play. Piedlos keeps it alive in
(52:15):
the attacking zone. Deering with it now go line left,
skates it to the right corner, turns and winds it
around to Osburn now and he'll return the favor all
the way back to the right wing. Deering tried to
lean in and play the body rather than the puck,
and Luke middlestadt took it away and sent it Wisconsin's way,
But the Badgers have it back. Bottle had center good
(52:38):
back check by Mole lifted his stick and took the puck.
Pritchard then will dump it in Osburn for Wisconsin quickly
after it walls off the four checker, Hendrickson able to
break out. Morrissey lead feed off the heel of tassy stick.
He's tried to chase it down, does and then shot
miss the net. We have gone off the stick of McLauchlin.
Morrisey keeps it alive. That's a part of Tassie. We
(52:59):
haven't seen timber shoots one low from long range. Easy say,
per are, I'll hang on ten to thirty to go
here in the second period of play, Wisconsin leeds Minnesota
two to nothing. Wisconsin Badger Hockey brought to you by
UW Health Sports Medicine, the healthcare team for the Badgers

Speaker 2 (54:27):
Tonight quarter battle matchup brought to you by Alliant Energy,
building a strong, resilient energy future today and for generations
to come. Finley's second goal reached Findley from Morrissey and
Tassi at five point forty three of powerplay. Goal at
gives wisconsinday to nothing advantage based off inside the Minnesota zone.
(54:49):
Badgers try to stay unbeaten through eights while trying to
hand the Gophers their fourth straight loss. Morrissey face offf
actually won by Minnesota More to Zemer, you'll pitch it
towards More, but he was defended by dex Sheimer. The
puck slowly spun on Gold and Houser just on his
knees stopped it, covered face off to come.
Speaker 3 (55:10):
Yeah, that's good backchecking. I like it.
Speaker 6 (55:12):
When there were three on three, they forced them to
just dump it towards the net. Goaltender makes an easy
stop words discussion about how's your science class between Dexzheimer
and Moore sure after they locked.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
Horns in the corner. I like that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
It was midterm week for the Wisconsin Badgers. I know
that was on the mind of a lot of young men,
especially the freshman who'd still trying to figure out how
to manage their time. Finley across the line, he's got
two so far. Talk with it now. He tried to
shoot and fan on it. And now Middlestad has it
and he'll lob it out to center. Shoals will beat
Zemer to the puck, banked it off the sideboards. Finley
(55:52):
now saves it center circle. Fitzgerald on a blind pass
from Findley, Fitzgerald left wing through it through the low
slots and Tulk will retrieve right wing and he'll wind
it back behind the net, but Middlestack got there first,
released it quickly right to the stick of Wisconsin's Fitzgerald
skates it behind the cage. Middlestat meets him there and
separates him from the puck. The referee he just took
(56:13):
the dicker in the right corner. Becauys the Gophers clear.
More than halfway through this hockey game to nothing. Wisconsin
leads Minnesota. Finzgerald tries to get it deep the defenseman
stick Rombach. It's snapped in half, so he's minus a
stick and just goes and stands right in front of
the Minnesota nets. Loose puck picked up by Wisconsin zillanof
but unfortunately for Vassili he didn't handle it cleanly initially,
(56:38):
and it came across the line by just a few
inches and Wisconsin offside.
Speaker 6 (56:44):
He just turned to the linesman, just gave him a
slap on the bottom and said, yes, it was offside.
Speaker 3 (56:49):
They were both kind of laughing and grinning.
Speaker 6 (56:51):
And I'm not sure what kind of a relationship you
have with the linesman in a game, but oh well, now.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
Now, Kyle Kuchanan is going to the Badger's locker room,
followed by trainer Andy Roadie. Remember Kuchanan got squashed near
side boards right in front of us in the glass.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
Earlier in this period in Yeah, and then it was
after he had lost his helmet on the other play right.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
And again the Badgers suited up thirteen forwards tonight and
Horbach is kind of the Swiss army knife no play
wherever Mike Hastings puts him. Gophers have the puck in
the offensive zone, Mooney with it left wing, hit the
brakes and they gave out on him.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
He fell down, lost the puck. Badgers have it.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Horbach protects it from Mooney and then lifts it up
into the ear down in the Minnesota zone to the
stick of the defenseman. Jacob Rombach Nashville Predator's draft choice,
second rounder, thirty fifth overall this past year. He's a
large young lad at six six two ten from Blaine, Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
And he moves pretty well for a big man.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Yeah, played a couple of years with the Lincoln Stars
and the u SHL. Minnesota has always had some big defenseman, nimble,
skilled defenseman. You think of Brock, Faber and Jackson Lacombe
and Sam Frenzel.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Samuelle got his first goal in the National Hockey League
the other night of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
Yeah Steel, Piedla trying to set up Deering in a slot.
Good thought, but Pritchard able to cancel out Deering, knocking
his stick free.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
Now Piella low.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
Left, carries it to the net, falls down, gets a
shot off anyway, just couldn't get it up high en
up as it was stopped by Ay and now a
Steel quick christer buy e shot off of body and
up into the protective netting. But the fans appreciate what
they see from E, John, Deering and Piela the Badger's
fourth line.
Speaker 6 (58:44):
Well, you also get into a situation where you appreciate
the fact that they don't give up on any of
the close stuff. And when you're winning the one on
one battles close down, those are the times when you're
going to get scoring opportunities that the other team isn't expecting.
Speaker 3 (58:59):
Good to see them.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Piedla, back after missing the first six games this season
with enough for body injury, mentioned a goal in three
points a year ago in thirty one games as a freshman,
but he's a heart and soul guy Ian, and he
brings his lunch pail and he can lay the wood
every once in a while too. He's not scared to
(59:21):
here's Zeemer now. John Middlestet in transition block shot off
the stick of the back checking Morrissey and it spins
back behind the Wisconsin net. Badgers try to break out.
Nicely done backhand catch by Morrissey. Rink white pass too
far for botterrel lucid neutral tass He's got it. Here
comes Morrissey across the line, pressured by a pair of golfers,
(59:44):
so he sends it down and turnover. Now here's a
chance bott roll with a backhander. Aery got a piece
of it popped into the air about ten feet high
and then down to the ice again and then cleared
out by Minnesota's John Middlestat and not strongly enough for icing.
With seven h four to go in the second period
of play, Wisconsin leads to nothing. Oh miss breakout passed
(01:00:04):
by Shoals. He coughed it up. Look out Javon Moore
with its slot pass behind the intended receiver. Clark and
the Badgers get a break. Fitzgerald on the rush wanted
to drop the talk Oliver able to handle it. Talk
then knocked to his knees, tucked, pulled free by Finley
and it comes crawling across the line and the Badgers
have to three groups. Send it in and talk now
(01:00:26):
with a little for checking pressure. Finley follows, talks mishandled
the buck.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
I don't know what it is tonight. He hasn't been
as sharp as usual. He's jamming.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Jimmy Clark sends it down in Osburn, fakes left, went
right and ran into two gophers and turned it over.
Clark out Hi Luke Middlestown long range shot stop by Howser,
bumped into the air right in front of the face
of Howser, and then he saw it drop to the ice.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
And he gloved it quickly. Yeah, he got a whistle. Yeah.
When you've got.
Speaker 6 (01:00:57):
Big guy like Javon Moore stand right in front of
you and a Badger defenchman all over him, there's not
a lot of places you can see the puck, but
he did.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Yep. Time out on the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Six seventeen to go on the second Wisconsin Leeds Minnesota
two and nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
This is Badger hockey from Lairfield.

We don't just deliver, we dominate.
Speaker 7 (01:02:11):
UW Health remarkable.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Two nothing Wisconsin ly it's been a sta face off
to the left of Daniel Hauser, who stopped all twelve
gop forher bids so far Wisconsin able to work the
puck out of the zone. Montgomery flips it over to
ziling Off, back to Horbock and refeed ZeLing Off, but
lost it. Now the Badger's get it back and a
lot of chuck. A one timer from it out high left.
(01:02:38):
Must have been up on edge because he missed that
shot ten feet high.
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Yeah, head the sand wedge instead of the driver. Yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
Now here's Horbock retrieving the puck and the offensive zone.
Ruba gets in his way. Horbock ties him up, waiting
for support. Montgomery pulls it free. Blake Montgomery with it
left wing out to the point faal and shoots one
low off of skate. Luke Middelstat picks it up, pushed
it ahead for himself, skates right through the middle of
the ice and he'll pitch it into the corner and
the Badgers will go to get it in their own zone.
(01:03:06):
Five and a half minutes to go. Here in the
second to nothing Badgers, Finley has scored both goals for
Wisconsin and now over skating whipple steal by zillanoff, but
it's out to center. Mo pass behind Zemer Piano has
got it. Zeemer loafing to get back. Now the puck
deflected out of play. We paused ten seconds for station identification,
(01:03:27):
ten seconds for I legal ID. You're listening to Wisconsin
Badger hockey Brian Posik and Ian Parrin at the Coal
Center in Madison, Wisconsin, looking for a sweep of Minnesota
in this building for just the third time ever and
the first time since February of twenty fourteen. Flan off
the draw, low shot didn't get through. Backhanded tempt by
(01:03:48):
Botterrel canceled out by a slash from Gruba. Now Botterrel
turns and fires and Whipple intercepted that, but then he
iced the puck and a face off back into the
Minnesota zone with five minutes left in the second per.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
Yeah, that's frustrating. Phalan's had good shots. Piettal has had
good shots. Unfortunately, very few of them have gotten to
the net. Give credit to Minnesota for tying up people
in front blocking shots. If you look at the first
period statistics, Badgers had zero block shots and Minnesota had three.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
I would imagine it will be a similar type time.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Now says off one by Wisconsin. Gruba lets it go,
mo slid it near side Hendricks and he's pressured and
the puck went off eajohn stick and slid right to
the netminer who was paying attention and covered it up.
Another face off to come.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
Good aggressive core check by Bruno. He's just you know,
I guess.
Speaker 6 (01:04:46):
Being out of the lineup on Thursday, now coming back
on Friday or on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
He's got to prove himself again and hard work will
do it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
He John half a year for the most part. Lincoln
last year at twenty five goals and forty seven points. Turnaround,
shut from the left goal line through the blue paint.
Now Grubo with it, rimmed it around, shoals down the wall,
able to hold for a moment, but then Zeemer bumped
it out the center, put it on the stick of
Morrissey and he sends it right back into the Wisconsin zone.
(01:05:16):
Good job, and now here comes Luke middlestadt off to
his left of the Red Lion. We'll fire it in.
Pladachuck one hands it off the body of Lamb Finley
protecting Pladachuck trying to pull it free and does with
four fifteen to go in the second and then Dubinsky
no look bump hoping to hit Polada chuck. He was
(01:05:36):
not ready for it. The Gopher is able to get
it deep again, and now John Middlestat will rip it
around far side and put it on the stick of Finley.
So what goes around comes around. Now Finley can't clear.
Lamb knocked it down out of midair from behind. Tulk
took it away. He bumps it ahead. Finley's behind the
Gopher's defense, but the past too strong, Airy out of
his net, flips it over to the near sidewall. Finley
(01:05:58):
was after it couldn't catch up to it. Fitzgerald now
double team. Puck squorts free and the Gophers collect and
they come up the middle of the ice. Lamb will
put it towards the Gopher's bench. He needs a change
though in Wisconsin's got the puck. Tulk tape to tape
osburn through two gophers, gets around a third forced wide.
He's got it, puts a puck on the left dot
(01:06:19):
for Montgomery. He splits a pair of Gophers, but then
couldn't control it cleanly, and now here's Javon Moore on
the rush, but four badger's back. Still Moore shoots one
when farside glove side on Hawser and missed the nets,
but not by much. No, he sticked by a few inches.
We were but Howser had the angle right. We had
the perfect angle here, so to Houser. Now Osburn up
(01:06:41):
the middle of the ice, hoping to hit horror Bock
went off his stick. He leaped into mid air to
grab it, got knocked down. Fans wanted a penalty, but
Wisconsin was offside. Correct Banger Hockey brought to you by

at the Cole Center, or next weekend at Yost Arena
and Ann Arbor, where the Badgers play the Michigan Wolverines
next Friday and Saturday night, both games at six o'clock
on the Badgers' Sports Network.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
One of the most intriguing places to play Yost Arena.
Love going there, oh Man, history just dripping all over
every pillar.
Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
I tell people often that it's like playing hockey at
the UW Fieldhouse. They put an ice sheet in the
middle of the building and you just wouldn't expect it.
And Michigan used to play basketball there back in the
day before converting it into a hockey arena and basketball
moved to Chrysler Arena. That's still the home of Michigan basketball.
Here's Paulson at center ice, left wing, passed to Mooney
(01:07:45):
immediately on him dex Sheimer slowed his progress, but the
puck held in Rude banks it off the end board.
Zeemer in a battle with Deering and Grady. Deering came
out of there with it and took a step and
got by him. Zemer again slow coming back. Here's Piela
for Wisconsin. Tough heckled shot stup by Airy, ricocheted far side.
Zemer up the middle of the ice and eluded Paulson.
(01:08:07):
Hendrickson able to chop it to center. Paulson's got it.
Zemer defended. He's going backside, but Paulson will rip her
around to the right corner. Long range shut from the wall,
fought off by Houser. He reached up his right arm
quickly and his blocker bounced awkwardly in front of him
before he covered with one fifty six left in the
second to nothing Wisconsin lead.
Speaker 6 (01:08:27):
Every time you don't take a shot, you never know
what's going to happen. When you do take a shot,
you still don't know what's going to happen. But it's
strange plays like that that are just typical of a
hockey game, especially a game between Minnesota and Wisconsin, where
anything can happen as long as you shoot the buck on.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
Net face off to Howser's left.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Minnesota last night had only sixteen shots on goal at
thirteen tonight for the Gofers, Yeah, the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Have only had six shots here. In the second period, Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
With a face off and set it to center, but
the Gophers get to the puck. Low A crossed the line,
met with a shoulder from Dubinsky and came back to
neutral ice. And now Hendrickson checked by Fitzgerald, and that
freed the puck for Platachuck, who backhands it around all
the way back out to center ice. Ninety seconds to
go in this second period. Then Finley even strength in
(01:09:22):
the first period, Then on a power play in the second,
Gophers set a deep a lot of chuck double team,
but worked through it and breaks out up the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
Of the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
Hears Fitzgerald now off to his right. They'll backhanded towards
the net. It rolls on edge to the kick plate,
tulk down the right wing wall through it through the
low slot. No one there for Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:09:42):
Finley admitted a change and out came Montgomery. Just a
couple oohe is slippery. Be careful.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Dave Pritchard with speed, came out of his zone and
just fell down. He tried to cut to his left.
Now here's Montgomery with speed around behind the nett wanted
to wrap it around.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
And lost the handle.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
He passes out Osborn all balance shot ricocheted off his
shin bad to the corner. I's hill and off tied
up by Whipple. Three Gophers to one badger. Minnesota attempts
to clear, but Falan down on his knees, blocked it
like a catcher and held his own.
Speaker 3 (01:10:12):
Although the Gophers get it back and.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
McLaughlan will set it out to neutral ice, Clark goes
rink Ye McLaughlan defenseman thought about dropping it, cuts to
the corner on his backhand.
Speaker 3 (01:10:24):
Now forehand to the point he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Mooney will fire one in Houser again on his Knees
fought that one off. Now it's Clark out high Whipple
try to one timer and he fan on it and
then couldn't locate the bucking owl whistle to a pedalty
coming up on Minnesota for slashing his Horbock had his
stick knocked right out of his hands, and the Badgers
get a cutest power play leading to nothing, and the
freshman l J.
Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
Mooney's gonna sit down for two minutes.
Speaker 6 (01:10:50):
Yeah, I don't, uh, I don't imagine that that was
the quite uh, But coach Blotskow told him to go
out there and do by any to the imagination. With
thirteen seconds left, take a penalty, all right, But again,
it's been kind of whole hum here for the last
eight nine minutes. Very few scoring opportunities, Yeah, very few
(01:11:13):
individual efforts to set things up, excuse me, and maybe frustration.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
Set in for LJ. Mooney. I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
Nineteen forty seven at the time of that slashing penalty.
Next goal is a big one, though, Ian Badrews lead
to nothing. With just over a period to play offensive
zone face off, Morrissey wins it out to the point
dex Shimer slides it down to Morrissey left wing hi
the net task a seven seconds in the period, Finley circle,
looked at the clock, put in front, rate direct, that's
(01:11:43):
Jerill Anna stop by Aery Morrissey. After the rebound, couldn't
put it home. And that's it for the second period.
Speaker 6 (01:11:49):
They got a good look, Yeah they did, and that's
all they were asking for is one good look with
only thirteen seconds left in the period.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
One goal scored in that second period by Wisconsin Quinn
Finley is second of the night, and after two the
Badgers leave the Gophers by the score of choos nothing. Hey,

Second intermission from the Cole Center in Madison, Wisconsin, Leeds
Minnesota two to nothing. Lone goal in that second period
came out of power play, scored by Quinn Finley his
fifth of the year from Gavin Morrissey and Simon Tassi
at five point forty three. Second goal of the game
for Quinn Finlay, who with five goals now is one
behind the team leader, Christian Fitzgerald. Both teams eight shots
(01:15:55):
on both of the second period. Daniel Houser stopped all eighties,
got fourteen saved through two period a period. That is
Nathan Air seven stops in the second fifteen for two
periods of play. Minnesota four penalties for eight minutes three
in that second period, wisconstab will start the third period
on a power play with a two goal lead, and
they always say, ask anybody, I guess two goal leads
(01:16:18):
are the worst to have in hockey.
Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
Yeah. That was told to me by Alex Hicks, former
All American at UW o'claire and assistant coach now at
Arizona State.
Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
He said, coach, the worst lead you can have as
a two goal lead. And I said, so, what do
you think we should do? He goes, let's make it six.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
And we went out and we hammered Saint Thomas like
eight to one or whatever it is. They go, see,
I told you that's what I was talking about. Oh,
that is funny. It is funny.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Two goals for Quinn Finley, a team leading four shots
on goal so far tonight. Minnesota's Jimmy Clark has three
shots on goals, so does LJ. Mooney, but the Gophers
have been shut out through the first forty minutes of play.
Wisconsin leeds Minnesota two to nothing back in a couple
of minutes. This is Bachger Hockey from Airfield.

Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
Fin with a parn Bryan Postik here at the Coal
Center of the Badgers lead the Gophers two nothing and
have a power play to start period number three for
a minute forty seven.
Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
By the way, I in.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Overtime, Michigan has knocked off Notre Dame by the final
score of two to one. Will Horkoff gets the game
winner halfway through ot so Michigan improves its record to
nine to one.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
Notre Dame falls to three four in one overall. Yeah,
I mean it's uh. I shouldn't say.
Speaker 6 (01:18:01):
I guess it's a plus for Notre Dame because they
haven't been scoring that many goals And to play a
team that came in there hot as hot can be
and take them to overtime even though you lost in overtime,
I'd still treat it as a plus if I was
the coaching staff.
Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
Waiting for the ice to settle here at the Coal Center.
Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
So again, Wisconsin will play at Michigan next Friday and Saturday,
nights at six o'clock Central time, Marcy to take the
face off against Clark and Morrisey able to direct it
deep into the Minnesota zone. Gophers will get their first
try to use the boards to clear the zone. Got
the job done, but Morrisey quickly after it and Wisconsin
(01:18:44):
will take it at center. Andrew's so far one for
two on the power play, I fitz drive passed to
the point off of skate and all the way back
into the Wisconsin zone it goes.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
I hate blind passes like that.
Speaker 6 (01:18:54):
All fits he had to do was bump it off
the boards back to his defensive partner and we would
have been shape dex.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Sheimer drops it to Morrissey with speed, picks it up
in the badger's own hands off left wing. Finley low left,
goes upstairs and I think Aarry got a piece of it.
Then off the high glass behind the net. Fitzgerald's got it.
He almost knuck that one in short.
Speaker 6 (01:19:12):
Side and there was a hole up there too. I
think he saw the same hole that we did.
Speaker 2 (01:19:17):
Texheimer long range shot didn't hit the net tass. He
got his body on it and then tried to play
it off the end boards, but Minnesota cleared. Wisconsin controls
again at center. Finley couldn't catch at the lockout take
him by a lamb short handed. Here's Hendrickson now cross
the line, shoots once saved by Houser. Big rebound there,
Badger's cleared out of arms way. Fitzgerald leads a three
(01:19:37):
on two the other way. Morrissey cuts to the slot
looking backside right. Fitzgerald wanted to feed Finley or Morrissey.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Its split.
Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
The two Badgers, though, possessed the puck and settled things
down on the power play. Half minute left in it.
Osburn now running the point, Finley with the puck back
to Luke, Osbur and the freshman defenseman. They changed places
far side, Tulk left wing, Finley off a stick and
Quinn will I'll hammer it deep. He'll stay on the
ice for the time being. Montgomery can't play held by
(01:20:05):
or Osburn.
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
No, it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
He got it as it came across the line. Try
to put it back in and then got popped by Brody.
Zemer whistle stops playing. Fifteen seconds left of the Badgers
tunis power play still to nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (01:20:18):
Actually their best scoring opportunity was the fact that they
came back on that three on two or three on three,
I guess what it was. And instead of taking the shot,
Morrisan's electing to pass it, and that one may have
been their best scoring opportunity during this minute and a
half that they had on the power play.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
Now the Gophers toff it up, each on reaching for
it Montgomery too. Montgomery picks it up and stops it
over Arian Inlake montgomery third straight game, the rookie has
lit the lamp, a big goal for the Badgers early
in the third.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
It's three zip. It's a strange game, isn't it, Brian.
Speaker 6 (01:20:55):
You get into a situation where you had a power
play and you're blasting shots, and then all of a
sudden there's a turnover and Montgomery just walks in and
goes top shelf, and it's makes it look easy as pie.
It's it's not a difficult game if you play it
like Blake Montgomery does.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
One thirty nine the time of that goal, Montgomery's third
in as many games, and the only reason e John
couldn't get to the buck is because Montgomery's reach is
so much longer. Otherwise e John may have had a
chance in tight on area. Now Montgomery and e John
together the other way two on two. But the pass
behind e John now pulled free by Montgomery, slowed by
(01:21:34):
the body of Gruba, and it swings around to the
new Year side.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
That is a power play goal.
Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
Now here's Montgomery again on a centering pass. He tipped
another one in, Blake Montgomery. Back to back goals for
the freshman, the first at one thirty nine, the second
at the two minute mark of the third, and he
wants more.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
It's four and nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:21:58):
Little tip in Joe Plata, I think was the initial
person who made the shot from the point, and regardless
it was kind of a bouncing puck and how it
got over the goaltender prime being tipped by Blake Montgomery.
Don't care because it's for it's for nothing, and he
has two goals in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Similar to last Saturday night against Alaska when the Badgers
were tied with the then Nooks and then Bang Bang
scored two goals in fifty six seconds in the first
two minutes of the third. Here it's Montgomery at one
thirty nine out of power play, then Montgomery at the
two minute mark.
Speaker 3 (01:22:36):
Even strength.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
It goes from two nothing to four nothing in twenty
one seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
Got to make the Badger Faithful happy.
Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Montgomery's first goal unassisted, his second goal set up by Pilatachuck.
Speaker 6 (01:22:50):
Yeah, I would like to see a replay on that
again because that was a strange bounce.
Speaker 3 (01:22:54):
Yeah it was.
Speaker 6 (01:22:57):
I'm sure Blake will tell us it was all skill,
but I'm thinking it might have been from luck too.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Piele has shot off the stick of Rombach and wide
out to center ice and then sent back in. So
Blake Montgomery, the freshman from Bovie, Maryland, fourth round pick
for Mattawa two years ago, twenty six goals sixty points
with London and the Ontario Junior League last year helped
them to the OHL Championship and the Canadian National Championship.
(01:23:25):
Now zeemer in the slot Nesta shot. He was wide
open between the circles. Man here he's making an impact
on Wisconsin. Long range shot by rude leaning left Houser
snags it with his glove hand and hangs on sixteen
forty four to go in the third. Wisconsin now up
four to nothing. You know Ian Wisconsin has now outscored
opponents fourteen to one in the third period of play.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
How'll work. That's a good formula. Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:23:50):
If you have a formula like that and it's successful,
usually pays big dividends.
Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
Now Montgomery's first goal again either he or e John
and Blake just had a longer reach, got to it
and shifted over the.
Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Left shoulder of Airy.
Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
And then his second goal is centering passed by Pulata
Chuck that he was able to redirect upstairs.
Speaker 6 (01:24:14):
All the people that we were concerned with was Zellenoff
going off and right now all of a sudden, you've
got cooking and gone off. So you just go back
to the original lineup that you had. Promote a couple
of people, put a couple of people on different lines.
The thirteenth forward has been big evidends tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Yeah, Badgers have the puck in their own zone. Montgomery
can't clear held in long range shot by Axel Begley. Well,
why Gophers with sixteen shots on goal tonight make it
seventeen His houser with a blocker save.
Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
On a blast by Rombach.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
I mean one more shot on goal tonight than all
of last night, when the Gophers managed only two goals
and lost by three. And now the puck back in
the Wisconsin zone. Gophers have to touch up a lot
of check as the biscuit.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
This is getting sloppy. It is now Wisconsin. Just ice the.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
Puck as well. Again Montgomery unassisted. I had won thirty
nine a power play goal. Then Montgomery from poladachuck at
the two minute mark.
Speaker 6 (01:25:17):
Yep, and just you know, twenty one seconds later, all
of a sudden, it's a four goal lead.
Speaker 3 (01:25:24):
I mean it just liked last night. It happened bing
bang too right, we're on hat trick.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Watch shot by Gruba shanked it held by McLaughlin and
now down to the corner and Paulson does not want
to get hit by Dubinski. He backed off. Battle for
the puck, though Paulson won it. Mooney left wing on
him Polata chuck shifty is LJ Mooney look out a
misshot that was shanked. His houser was down and now
(01:25:53):
from the slot lamb shot blocked by Fitzgerald Neckcaren's out
of play.
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Come on fourteen and twenty eight. Find man.
Speaker 6 (01:26:00):
You're both standing by each other covering one man and
the guy walked out of the corner. Communication between you
two and coach Chasing just walked over and said exactly the.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Same thing that I said.
Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Now they're veterans too, Ian a junior and a graduate
student or a senior in Dubinski.
Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
Alta.
Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Chuck's been playing most of the season with Hensler and Logan.
Hensler's out with an illness tonight, So nevertheless the two
play together, same deep hair in the Peenley Kill Ballata
Chuck and Dubinski. So just little talk, little communication. Here's
Fodderrel tried to feed Deering on the rock, broken up,
taken by Zeemer, hustling back faling. Zeemer will shoot for
(01:26:40):
the right wing, canceled out by the stick of Jack Falan.
Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
Good job. That's what happens when you have a nine
foot reach. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Zeemer's had quite an early career against the Wisconsin Badgers.
Five goals, eight points in the five games he's played
against Wisconsin, dating back to his freshman year last year.
Bad pass mos steel. Here's Bottl sets and fires too
high on the glove side of airy.
Speaker 3 (01:27:05):
Oh, I'd have to give him some ribbon on that.
As soon as we get soccer nets, Ryan, you're gonna
score a lot of goals.
Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
Ram Harris fights through a check but turned it over.
Schules now has it as Wisconsin. In the midst of
a change, Zach will dump it in. Airy will drop
it off for Rombach try to move it up the
far side boards, but Tassy holding there. Morrissey gets it
out to the point. Deck Seimer puts it towards the
net area with a stick Savee directed at near sidewall.
Prettiered after it takes a bump from Tassie, and now
(01:27:34):
it's Rombach as they break out.
Speaker 6 (01:27:36):
That's the part about deck Seimer that I really liked,
how he's growing up. Yeah, he could have passed a
defense to defense, but could have also gotten intercepted. So
just throw it at the net. Play the safe game, yep.
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
John Middlestat's tough angled shot denied by Houser thirteen forty
to go on the third of four to nothing Wisconsin
advantage on Minnesota. Shoal steps up. Moore had his head.
He could have blown him up, but just knocked him
down and separated him from the puck and the Badger's
in pursuits in the offensive zone. Horbock protecting out to
(01:28:09):
the point. Pladachuck moved left and pushed it to the corner.
Lake Montgomery back out there. He scored the last two goals.
Scooped ahead. Now Lamb tries to get by polatachuck Aiden
Dubinski comes over and helps his de partner. Passed towards
the slot and Lamb off of skating out to center.
Speaker 6 (01:28:28):
Keep creating those turnovers at your own offensive blue liar
at to do offensive blue line and you're in good shape.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Jimmy Clark on the rush, trying to go upstairs. Howser
stopped it. Badger's poke it to the corner. Porbock will
just scoop it out to center and slow things down
a little bit. Well, the gophers picking it up a
little bit. Now Clark will send it down in with
twelve forty five to go in the third, Wisconsin leads
for nothing. Finley is potted a pair, so is Blake. Montgomery.
(01:28:55):
Now Mooney behind the net, lost it, got it back,
Finley took it away. He was ready to skate out
of the zone. Didn't realize he didn't have possession. Then
Moon he gets Fife and Lee backdoor pass ah. Hauser
goes left to right. Somehow got a stick on that shot. Yeehah,
I us to say it to night yep Daniel Hauser
keeps it four to nothing with twelve twenty to go
on the third. Now Dubinsky turns banks it off the
(01:29:17):
boards and out to center.
Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
Spend a lot of time in the Badger's zone in
the last two three minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Yep, Paulson now shot block seemers got it turn around
shots stick saved for Hawser up to twenty. Stops tonight
for Daniel Hauser after making fourteen on sixteen shots Thursday
night in the five to two victory over the Gophers,
and now Luke Osburn will step back and try to
settle things down, but the Gophers pressuring on their fore
(01:29:45):
check and the tuck banked up off the glass and
into the Badger bench, stopping play. We'll take a break.
With eleven forty nine to go in the third, Wisconsin
leads Minnesota four nothing. Looking for a series sweet This
is Badger hockey from Learfield.

Here is We're nearing the midway point of the third period.
Here's Bruno E John on the attack. Try to go
through three gophers and had it poked off his stick
by Rude, and Minnesota now has it back Max Rude.
He's dad Eric, a very good defenseman at CC back
in the day's tough angled shot far side by Harris
(01:31:49):
goes off his stick and up and out of play.
You know it's looking at this earlier Ian. You know
Wisconsin's in good position.
Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
Right now, and don't want to overlooked Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
But the Badgers have swept Minnesota at the Coal Center
only twice since this building opened in October of nineteen
ninety eight. Only twice have they swept Minnesota in this
building nineteen ninety nine, and the last time was back
in February of twenty fourteen, when Jake mccab and Nick
(01:32:23):
Kurdilis both were credited with third period game winning goals.
Joel Rumpel stopped fifty nine of sixty one shots in
that sweep of the Gophers here at the Cold Center
back in twenty fourteen.
Speaker 6 (01:32:34):
I tell everybody Joel Rumple is by far and away
my favorite goaltender from Saskatchewan, just because I played with
Roy Schultz's uncle.
Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
Yeah, I don't want to give him any credits.
Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
Ten fifty left in the third Horbach will whip it
around left corner. Montgomery can't hold it, but his line
made Zillanoff does. Duvinsky pinches in. Zillanoff pushed it towards
the net, hoping to hit one of the Gophers went
down hard. That's Harris. Minnesota has possession of the puck
(01:33:08):
and Al McLachlan up the ice. McLachlan a pretty good
looking young defenseman, the freshman two time Clark Cup champion,
once with Fargo and then last season with Muskegan.
Speaker 3 (01:33:18):
He's out on the ice right now for the young
Golden Gophers, who were minus their second line centerman Tanner
Lucky out with an illness, August Fulloon, a second line
talents injured last night, cal Thomas, one of their try captains,
out with an injury, and Teddy Townsend, a freshman forward,
was injured in preseason practice and hasn't played for.
Speaker 2 (01:33:40):
The Gophers yet this season. I will say this look
out steel by Minnesota. Clark with a puck stick Handling
threw a couple of Badgers and then coughed it up
to Piedla, slides it over to mottorrel Bottrell across the line.
Stick Candling gets away from Clark. He's wide open, all
balanced shot stop by Ariy and.
Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
Ricocheted the near side.
Speaker 6 (01:33:58):
Well, you better be thankful both his linemates Peddla Endearing
just went in and made a whole bunch of traffic
for Ryan botterol for him to shoot at lead.
Speaker 2 (01:34:08):
Feed by Begley and tended for more too far. I
sing on Minnesota. Hey, Minards is a proud sponsor at
Badger Athletics and reminds everyone to save big money on
all your home improvement needs at Monarns.
Speaker 6 (01:34:23):
Well, this face off will be what nine five left,
so just past the period. But I will give credit
where credit's due. Minnesota has not shown any like give
up type attitude.
Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
Turn around, shot out high by Finley off of stick.
Fitzgerald has it now right wing. We'll set it back
behind the cage. Finley was hoping to pull it with him,
but over skates and then Tulk lifted the stick of
Clark and tried to free the puck. But Pritchard's got
it from Minnesota. He'll softly scoop it ahead, slowed by
(01:34:58):
Osbourne and Jack goes to get it for the Badgers.
No penalties here at the third period, now a lead
feet and Wisconsin is ice the puck.
Speaker 6 (01:35:09):
Yeah, Fitzy knows what he did wrong. Yeah, all he
was trying to avoid the check. All he had to
do was stick a stick out and touch that puck
and could have had the line change, wouldn't have had
a defense of his own face off all the rest of.
Speaker 3 (01:35:20):
That kind of stuff. Oh, I see your brothers are here.
Kiss is here.
Speaker 2 (01:35:23):
Yes, the four young men dressed up as Kiss and
they're singing out loud love it. Yeah, there have been
few Halloween costumes here tonight. See a couple of cows.
Also a referee or two. Fitzgerald dumps it in, tries
to give Chase angles through the blue paint through a
couple of Gophers, but Minnesota takes the puck and then
(01:35:45):
lobbed out to center to Ben deck Simon.
Speaker 3 (01:35:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Thursday night, we all thought that Christian Fitzgerald had a
hat trick, which would have been his second of the
season and would have been the first for a Badger
against a Gopher sauld Steve Tuttle back in Night teen
eighty six, but the official scoring on Fitzi's second goal
was changed. It was a rister from the left circle
that actually hit the right knee of Tassy and went in,
so Tassy got credit for the goal. Fitzgerald finished with
(01:36:12):
two goals and three points. But Finley has a pair
of tonight sodaes Montgomery, so there's a chance that a
Badger could score a hat trick against the Gophers tonight,
the first for a Badger against a Minnesota team since
nineteen eighty six. We'll see behind the at hendrickson centering pass.
Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
Where is it?
Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Ricochet's back behind the cage. Here's Mason Mowe tried to
dig it free, Shulls kipped it along the kick plate,
came out to the left circle, and mclonklin really kind
of handcuffed, unable to shoot the puck properly. But Minnesota
holds lamb with it. Now here's right, turns back.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
To the wall.
Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
Plata Chuck got his sticking away and Wisconsin takes the
puck away. You're right, though, ian Minnesota hasn't given up.
Things aren't going their way for sure, but they've been
better than the Badgers here over the last several minutes.
After Wisconsin had extended its lead to.
Speaker 3 (01:37:05):
Four, they just seemed to hold the offensive zone so long.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Yeah, here's Horback now spins it out to the point.
Flan Low's shot missed the net off the end boards.
Osborne fakes the shot, carries it behind the cage. Luke
Osburn to the right wing. Luke Osburn to the slot, turnaround,
shot off the body of Zillnev and Airy lays out
and covers up. Osburn went one to eighty in the
offensive zone.
Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
Kind of.
Speaker 6 (01:37:31):
I'm trying to think who he reminds me of again,
but just in the zone at all times. Every time
you turn around, he's down low, he's up top, he's
in the corner, he's whatever for Osburn. Definitely one of
the smoothest skating and stick handling defenseman as a freshman
that the Badgers have had in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
Face off to the lefts of Nathan Airy, who is
stopped nineteen twenty three Badger bids tonight. Here's Zeemer, He'll
scoop it into the offensive zone. Flan goes to get it,
able to get it through the body of Harris to
the far wall. Piedtle of braces for a hit from
(01:38:13):
Zeemer and left the puck off for Osburn. Tough pass
up the middle of the ice in front of the
Badger's cage, but found botterrel in his shot kicked aside
by Area Piela behind the net. Now botterl again tied
up from behind Piello with some pressure. Osburne left corner
has possession. Folk checked by Clark, pitched it to the
(01:38:35):
near side. Minnesota's got the puck. Zeemer to John Middlestat,
knocked off balance and threw it down to the Wisconsin zone.
Good hustle by Javon Moore. Yeah, An Icing waved off
at the Badger's get to the puck.
Speaker 3 (01:38:47):
He's got some wheels Jevon, Yes, he does.
Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Here's Finley across the line. Given go with Deering. It
bounced wide into the paint and sticked away by Airy,
and then Moore tried to I beg your pardon, yep more,
try to flip it back behind the net. Now the
Gophers take it and they'll send it out to center.
There's Pritchard drop pass left wing.
Speaker 3 (01:39:08):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
Clark had a lane to the net, but over skates.
Five point fifty to go in the third. Wisconsin with
a four to nothing lead on Minnesota, trying to sweep
the Gophers on home ice for the first time. Since
February of twenty fourteen, and the Badgers have iceed the
puck with five thirty eight left here in this period again.
Tonight's sponsor is Game title sponsor is Alliant Energy, building
(01:39:31):
a strong resilient energy future today and for generations to come.
And the Badgers will be on the road next weekend
to play Michigan. The next home series is November fourteenth
and fifteenth against Ohio State. Call one eight hundred, Go
Badgers or go to UW Badgers dot com for tickets.
Wisconsin five and a half minutes away from being unbeaten
(01:39:54):
through eight games this season. Puck played off the glass
and up and out of play.
Speaker 6 (01:39:59):
Regards us of the beaten unbeaten streak that you're gonna have,
just don't get any bad habits here in the last
five minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
Bad habits are injuries.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
Time out on the ice with five twenty seven ago,
wisconstant leads Minnesota for nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:40:11):
Oh wait a minute, we'll keep it here. Mike Tyne and.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
The Coal Center crew ready to shovel off the snow.
Speaker 6 (01:40:18):
But uh say no would have been to Bucky's advantage
because they would have had some tired five out there Yeah,
that would have gotten a break.
Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
Yeah, after an icing. It's not supposed to be a
media time out, if you will. The light went on,
the doors open, the referees are like, no, here's Lamb
with a shot blocked down by dex Sheimer. He's got possession.
They'll scoop it ahead, hoping to spring Finley. But Gruba
back now from Minnesota and keeps it away from Finley.
Talk though, lifts the stick of the defenseman McLaughlin for
(01:40:48):
a moment. Badger's have the puck osburn with it back
pedaling left wing. Shot stick saved, made by aery chop
that by Wisconsin's talk to osburn again is shot again
off the stick of Lamb and up into the netting.
That will bring a whistle and a stoppage of play
for nothing. Badgers four fifty one to go in the
third back in a minute. This is Badger hockey from Larfield.

Four thirty to go here in the third Badgers four
nothing back past left wing Tasty sets and fires and
Airyma that save look easy as he squared himself to
the shooter.
Speaker 6 (01:43:03):
Yeah, I don't think Tasty was actually shooting to score.
I think he was actually shooting to get a rebound
out in front.
Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
And is Soda misfires on a headman passing ice the
pup With four to twelve to go here in the
third period of play, I.
Speaker 3 (01:43:17):
Can tell you for both coaches that clock is going
to move as slow as molasses in January. Yeah, because
coach Watskat wants to get out of here yep, and.
Speaker 6 (01:43:32):
Coach Hastings would like to see it finished quickly. But
regardless of what they both wish for, it's going to
be a long, slow four minutes and twelve seconds a
long bus ride home for the Gophers too.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Bob Bobsko, Steve Miller, Ben Gordon on the coaching staff.
Here's Montgomery low left, works his way around the defenseman.
Bagley's centering pass came right back to him. And now
a skirmish to the right of the Minnesota cage. Gosh
who's involved with its? Mason Moe and Jack Horback were
(01:44:05):
going at it. Horbach got knocked down. Mo is going
to get the gates. Interesting roughing on Mason mo at
the fifteen fifty eight mark, Badgers will get another power
play already leading for nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:44:23):
Annoying Jack Horback just a little bit. I would say
that they weren't discussing classes as they were locked down there.
Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
How are your classes?
Speaker 6 (01:44:32):
There's probably something else, maybe that stems from some other time,
some other place.
Speaker 3 (01:44:36):
Not sure. He planted him on the ice pretty good though,
Yeah he did.
Speaker 2 (01:44:41):
Mason Moe Senior or Beggar pardon freshman from Eden Prairie,
former Madison Capital taking out a former Mazis Madison Capital.
Badger's Tune's powerplay shop by Morrissey off a stick or
a leg, Badgers hold his own dex Sheimer. Morrissey back
to dex Sheimer straight away looking setting shooting blocker saved
made by Airy and cleared by the Gophers.
Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
The right idea. Everybody was geared towards Finley, both the
defenseman and the top side forward for Minnesota in that box.
We're just ready to jump. As Finley got the puck.
Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Dex Sheimer drops for Morrissey between two Gophers right down
the middle. Finley picks up the puck, tries to go upstairs.
Aery fought it off, though Finley may have been too
tight as he pulled the trigger on that shot. And
now it's Christian Fitzgerald on the nearest side wall down
the hash marks to the goal line. Fitzgerald out to
the point Dezheimer. Finley wants it take the one timer
and actually didn't catch the pass, then got bumped away
(01:45:34):
from the puck, but able to get it deep before
the Gophers taken away and Ruba can't clear. He shanked
at Badger's hold. Dex Sheimer right wing, Finley off a stick.
He collects sauce back to dex Sheimer. A minute to
go on the power play, Morrissey passed back to dex Sheimer,
but it won't reach him. Is split two people and
out the center. Badgers need to touch up. It looks
(01:45:55):
like they're a new puck. Yeah, it looks like they're
trying to force it over to Finley, hoping that he
might get a hat trick. And maybe the second power
play unit will try to do the same with Blake
Montgomery if he comes out in the eyes. Oh, dex
Seimer just coughed it up in the defensive zone. Look
out more has it caught up in his skates and
then tried to shoot and tass he got in the way,
(01:46:15):
And now Bruno e John with it for Wisconsin gains
the line slowed by a pair of gophers, pulled it
away from those gophers, and a blind pass put it
on Pritchard's stick to twenty to go here in period
number three, Wisconsin's power play has about sixteen seconds left,
so many people to choose from. When it comes to
a number one star of the game tonight, here's Wisconsin
(01:46:36):
on the attack. To Montgomery, tried to go for them, Oh,
Larry stopped him. Oh, with speed it was to Montgomery.
You almost finished off a hat trick.
Speaker 6 (01:46:45):
Just that speed getting in there and getting the shot
off made him the number one star in my book.
Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
Yeah, I think though the way things are going here,
Ian we may go with number thirty one.
Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
Yeah, that's a possibility.
Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
He wasn't challenged very often. And we've given you a
history of Wisconsin's success against Minnesota in this building, having
swept the Gophers at the Coal Center only twice before.
Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
Gophers with the puck.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
Here's John Middlestad turn around shot blockers say, by ours
er out of play it goes Yeah. Well, there's some
other interesting tidbits we can share. If this finishes off
in the next ninety three seconds the way it looks
like it might.
Speaker 6 (01:47:30):
It'll be the first time, as me as color commentator, that.
Speaker 3 (01:47:33):
The Badgers has swept to go for. That would be yes, Yes,
it will be.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
I remember the twenty fourteen season when Wisconsin swept them here.
But and he actually two thousand and oh one. I
mean that was pretty good team. You got Danny Heatley.
Speaker 3 (01:47:50):
On that squad. That wasn't too bad.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Actually that was the ninety nine oh two thousand squad.
So you got Ryan Practon, Malonson and Desner and on
and on and on.
Speaker 3 (01:48:00):
Yeah, they had a pretty good squad they did at
that point in time. It was right when I came
back from o'claire.
Speaker 6 (01:48:05):
And I'll be honest with you, I've had season tickets
since whenever, but when I got them here and then
I would come on Fridays and Saturday nights.
Speaker 3 (01:48:14):
It was kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
Well, the fans that came out tonight had some fun
for sure watching Wisconsin take on Minnesota. We'd love to
see more of you here at the Coal Center as
the season moves along. I mentioned Ohio State in a
couple of weeks. That'll be the last home series in
the first semester. The Badgers start the second semester though,
with six straight games in this building, including series against
(01:48:39):
Michigan State and Michigan fans coming to their feet at
the Coal Center here. The Badgers lead Minnesota for nothing
under a minute to play a lot of chuck to
dex Szeimer. They spread things out piedla Horbach and deering
out there. Gophers have the puck. They slide it now
to Begley. They'll skate up the center sandwich by a
pair of Gophers, and I begging Pardons by a pair
(01:48:59):
of Badgers, and Minnesota dumped it in. But Wisconsin quickly
to the puck. During the white out, they handed out towels,
and those towels are being waved here tonight thirty seconds
to play. Quinn Finley scored in the first period, then
added a power play goal in the second, and then
Blake Montgomery two goals in twenty one seconds to open
(01:49:21):
the third. And Daniel Hauser has been perfect in goal
twenty two says for the freshman netminder, Daniel Hauser puck
put in front, and the Wisconsin Badgers, for the first
time since February of twenty fourteen, sweep the Minnesota Golden
Golphers at the Coal Center, and for the first time
since twenty ten, a Badger's goltender has shut out Minnesota.
(01:49:46):
Daniel Hauser and the Badgers blank the Golphers and complete
a weekend sweep with a four nothing victory.
Speaker 6 (01:49:55):
Yeah, it's sweet. I mean it's sweet. I think if
you saw the attitude all.
Speaker 3 (01:50:02):
This week, I think there were some nervous people.
Speaker 6 (01:50:04):
But to get the win last Star on Thursday night
and then to come back here on Saturday and put
the icing on the cake, I'm sure there's a lot
of freshmen have just figured out how we've got to
play in order to be victorious into Big ten.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
First time the Badgers have shut out the Gophers since
November fifth of twenty ten, when Scott Goodmanson made twenty
four saves and a six nothing win in Minneapolis, a
span of sixty two games in which the Badgers hadn't
shut out the Gophers until tonight. And it's the first
time of Wisconsin goldtender is shut out Minnesota in Madison
(01:50:37):
since November of nineteen eighty three.
Speaker 3 (01:50:40):
Ian that's a long time ago.
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
Yep, Wisconsin completes just the tenth home sweep of the
Golden Gophers in the modern era, five to two on Thursday.
For nothing here tonight.
Speaker 6 (01:50:52):
I'm trying to think through the goaltender would have been.
Maybe Mark Beharron.
Speaker 2 (01:50:55):
Could have been Badgers winners here tonight, shaking hands as
they leave the ice. These teams will meet again at

are happy. People are happy. Yeah, wow, Yeah the Cole

Ford and nothing first time again. The Badgers have shut
out the Gophers since November of twenty ten, so fifteen
years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:54:49):
Hard to believe. But what Scott Goodminson.
Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
Did then Daniel Hauser, a freshman did here tonight against Minnesota,
which loses its fourth in a and has scored only
three goals.
Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
During that four game losing streak.
Speaker 6 (01:55:03):
Yeah, I don't think that either goaltender was that blame
for the losses. As far as Minnesota was concerned, their
inability to put the biscuit in the basket might be
a major concern for Bobby Motskall and his staff.
Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
And so Wisconsin wins four nothing. Gophers folded two, seven
and one, OHO and two in the big ten of
baddress six to zho to two overall, two to zero
in league play. Let's get to our three stars of
the game tonight, brought to you by ever White solar Ian.
Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
Well, we'll go.
Speaker 6 (01:55:30):
Backwards, okay. Number three Quinn Finley, he could shoot the buck.
The boy knows how to score goals. Let's put it
that way. And if you took a long, hard look
at the replay of his goals, the first one five
on five goal where Falan gave it to him and bingo,
he gets the rebound and shoots it up. The power
play goal was here. Let's set it on the end
(01:55:51):
of the pier and see if you can hit the ocean.
He just ripped it top shelf. Two goals. Not much
he can do about that. But the fact that is
that he can score when he gets the opportunity. Number
three Star of the Game, Number two Star of the Game,
Blake Montgomery two goals the hard way, the old fashioned way,
not on the power play, not by shooting it off
(01:56:13):
the pass, but kind of bulling his way for his
first goal, and it came at such an important time
at one thirty nine of the third period. There was
a little bit of a push for Minnesota when they
came out in the third period, and then bang Montgomery
gets the first of his two goals at one thirty nine,
and then just twenty one seconds later he gets a
(01:56:35):
tip in on Joe Pilatochuk's Those are two very big
goals and their momental killers as far as Minnesota was concerned.
So good for him, But at no point in time
did we ever have our number one star in jeopardy.
He made some key saves at all times, and to
come out of here with a twenty two save shutout,
and I guess just the fact that it's been an
(01:56:57):
eternity since the Badgers have done this to Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (01:57:01):
Good job, mister Hauser. You are a number one star.

You're at the Coal Center, Wisconsin of four nothing victory
over Minnesota to finish off a weekend sweep. Our energizing
performance at the game brought to you by Alliant Energy,
Powering Beyond for you Ian.
Speaker 6 (02:00:45):
Our energizing performance of the game only took twenty one seconds,
so pretty easy to pick this one out. Blake Montgomery
scores five on five at one thirty nine of the
third period on a broken play ends up Either he
or Bardo could have slapped it into the open net.
He is the one who ended up doing it. And
(02:01:06):
then just twenty one seconds later he gets a tip in,
which was a good tip in because Plata Chuck just
kind of shot it at the net and it was
kind of flipping and flopping, and Montgomery tipped it up
over the right hand shoulder of the goaltender from Minnesota.
So in twenty one seconds, Montgomery's performance in the third
(02:01:28):
period changed the complexion of the game significantly. As we
all know, four nothing leads are a lot harder to
come back from than a two nothing lead.
Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
Montgomery now four goals in the last three games. He
scores twice in early in the third and made it
a nothing game to a four nothing game. And that
really was the final nail quite honestly, so your energizing
performance of the game to Blake Montgomery. We had so
many players we could have chosen to try to speak
with during our post game show, but again, since Daniel
(02:01:59):
Hauser pitch to shut out tonight, we'll speak with him
hopefully as we move along again. Wisconsin's first shutout of
Minnesota since November of twenty ten, when Scott Goodmanson and
the Badger's blank the Gophers six nothing up in Minneapolis
for nothing. Wisconsin victory here tonight back in a couple
of minutes. This is Badger hockey from Lairfield.

When your car is making a strange noise, no matter
what it is, you can't just pretend it's not happening.

That's an interesting sound.

It's like your mental health. If you're struggling and feeling overwhelmed,
it's important to do something about it. It can be
as simple as talking to someone or just taking a deep,
calming breath to ground yourself, because once you start to
address the problem, you can go so much further. The

There's danger out there. It lurks on highways and quiet
neighborhood streets. It's more likely to kill you than a
shark and more terrifying than the biggest snake. Distracted driving
claims lives every day. Every notification, swipe, social post, video,
or selfie while driving risks your life. So while you
might think public speaking or the zombie apocalypse is scary,

what's really terrifying and even deadly is distracted driving. Eyes forward,

If you build a relationship, then it becomes easier. If
you build trust, becomes easier. As a parent, you want
what's best for your child, To give them the love
of that a child needs. That's probably the best thing
you can do a for a teenager.

Council Wisconsin of four nothing went over Minnesota, Minnesota tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:04:31):
Good golly, miss Bolly.
Speaker 2 (02:04:33):
Yeah, well we'll have highlights coming up with it here
just a bit.
Speaker 3 (02:04:37):
Wow, my tongue has been time.
Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
Game seven of the World Series, Toronto, the Dodgers, three nothing,
Blue Jays, fourth inning.
Speaker 6 (02:04:48):
I tell you what, I have never been so excited
to watch a bottom of the ninth as I was
last night.
Speaker 3 (02:04:55):
And to have it end the way it ended, Yeah,
drove me crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:05:00):
One Actually, the Blue Jays lead the Dodgers in the
fourth inning of play. Yeah, that game ended with a
double play or the runner at second base got caught
off on a line drive to left and atypical second
double play. Let's put it that way exactly. Let's take
a look at scores else where. I wanted to mention
the Wisconsin women's hockey team bounce back from yesterday's loss
and beat third rank Minnesota seven to two as Kelly
(02:05:22):
Gorbtenko had two goals and an assist. KK Harvey and
Kirsten Simms also had a goal and three points. Leyla
Edwards lit the lamp as well. Ava McNaughton nineteen saves,
Mark Johnson's Club eleven and one, seven and one in
the WCHA idle next weekend and then back in action
at Saint Cloud State. The next home series for the
(02:05:45):
Badger women November twentieth and twenty first against Saint Thomas
non conference hockey. Tonight's top twenty five matchup. Cornell won
at Massachusetts three to one. Linden would a three to
two lead late in the third period at Faris States
Lake Superior State a six to two win at Clarkson,
and Clarkson had beaten Penn State earlier this season. Good
(02:06:08):
win for the Lakers out East.
Speaker 6 (02:06:10):
Yeah, and it's been a struggle offensively. They've really had
difficulty scoring goals.
Speaker 2 (02:06:15):
Michigan Tech a three nothing shut out at Saint Lawrence,
Princeton up a goal on Alaska late third period out
East Dartmouth down Stonehill five to two. Late third period,
air Force hanging on against Brown. A four to three
lead riit in the third, A two to one advantage
at Colgates, Denver. Three goals against Anchorage. Second period, it's
(02:06:36):
three to nothing at Magnus Arena Atlantic Hockey tonight, Bentley
beat Mercy Hearst seven to two. Mercy Hurst. What now
zero to ten?
Speaker 3 (02:06:45):
Is that the mark? I think so yep.
Speaker 2 (02:06:48):
Robert Morris won at Niagara four to three, and it
looks like Army and Canisius will go to overtime.
Speaker 3 (02:06:54):
Tied at two.
Speaker 2 (02:06:55):
Cchbamidge States three to two overtime win at Bowling Green, Augustana.
A three to one lead on Northern Michigan late third period,
Northern in danger of dropping to zero to ten. And
the last I saw Saint Thomas was on top of
Minnesota State late in the third period three two in
man Cato. I did not see any other update on that.
Speaker 3 (02:07:16):
Have you in?
Speaker 6 (02:07:17):
I didn't see anything either, and it was like four
or five minutes left in the third.
Speaker 3 (02:07:21):
So we'll see what.
Speaker 2 (02:07:22):
Happens, all right, Ecac Union of three to nothing win
at RPI Hockey East, UMass Lowell beat Providence five to one.
Yukon did the same to Merrimac. Vermont edged New Hampshire
tonight two to one, and Maine and Boston University have
combined for ten goals six to four Maine on top
of the third period in Orno, Maine. NCCHC. Miami suffered
(02:07:45):
its first loss last night and then beat Arizona State
tonight five to two.
Speaker 3 (02:07:49):
And they just came out of nowhere. Yeah. Right. They
were not a good hockey team last year, not at all.
No they what they had.
Speaker 2 (02:07:55):
They went the last twenty six games, six or seven
games without a wine. Sant Cloud State of four nothing
lead at home against Western Michigan late third period North
Dakota on top of Duluth of five to one. Umd
had been playing well, but the Bulldogs are down late
in the third and Grand Force Colorado College just scored
cc leads. Omaha won nothing midway through that hockey game
(02:08:17):
in Colorado Springs and one other big ten game tonight,
Michigan rallied and beat Notre Dame in over time two
to one on Will Horkoff's goal. His third goal of
the weekend. Jackie Ivankovich, freshman goaltender, made nineteen saves. Michigan
improved to nine and one and sweep that series on
the road to open Big Ten play. That'll be a
(02:08:39):
tough challenge for the Badgeries next weekend at YOST Arena,
taking on the Maze and Blue.
Speaker 6 (02:08:43):
Yeah, and we'll also find out what kind of a
road team they are.
Speaker 3 (02:08:47):
I mean, they've.
Speaker 6 (02:08:48):
Played pretty well here at home, and they've had some
comeback victories and when times got tough, all of a sudden,
one of the upper classmen kind of spearheaded to come back,
if you want to.
Speaker 3 (02:08:58):
Call it that way.
Speaker 6 (02:08:59):
But when you're on the road and you're playing in
a hostile environment like you Ost Arena, we'll see how
road tested.
Speaker 3 (02:09:07):
They are going to become. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
So the Badgers of Victoria's here tonight by the final
score of FOD to nothing, and we go downstairs and
head coach Mike Hastings kind of up to join us
during the post game show. My congratulations, you sweep the
Golden Gophers on home ice. That must feel pretty good
for you and the boys in the locker room.
Speaker 3 (02:09:24):
Yeah, you know what, it was.
Speaker 31 (02:09:28):
A really important weekend for us to try and get
into a league play and defend our home ice. And
it was a six game home stand and wasn't perfect,
but it was really good and just really happy for
the guys because they've been they've been putting a lot
of work in so it was big weekend for us.
Speaker 2 (02:09:45):
Yeah, when it comes to crunch time too, it seems
like your team's able to make the plays like you
did early in the third again tonight.
Speaker 31 (02:09:51):
Yeah, you know what, we had some what a coming
out party for Montgomery this weekend, right, I mean, and again,
you know, we need some guys that we get digged
up a little bit there at the beginning of the game,
and we had some guys fight through some things and
you see, you know, Quinn Finley does some Quinn Finley
things tonight. And I love the way that we came
(02:10:12):
out in the third period and extended the lead.
Speaker 3 (02:10:15):
Yeah, Blake Montgomery, boy.
Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
He's he's got a knack around the net. He's got
some hands, doney.
Speaker 3 (02:10:20):
He does me.
Speaker 31 (02:10:21):
Boys, He's something to watch go through the neutral zone skating, right,
I mean, he can put defensemen on their heels and
I just like the confidence that he plays with too.
And it was good to see our guys find a
way to get Game two and learn. We've talked about this,
you and I before. You got to learn how to
win hockey games, and these guys are learning.
Speaker 3 (02:10:42):
Yeah, Michaeh.
Speaker 2 (02:10:43):
The first time the Badgers have swept the Gophers at
home since February of twenty fourteen.
Speaker 3 (02:10:47):
It's been a long time.
Speaker 2 (02:10:48):
Well and actually it's the first time that a Wisconsin
goaltender has shut out Minnesota since November of twenty ten.
Daniel Hawser, while he only made twenty two saves in
the first period alone, he made a huge stop to
keep it a scoreless game at that point.
Speaker 31 (02:11:03):
Well, and you know how momentum is, right, and again
we you knew they'd have a push and we weren't
exactly on our toes early, and that's what a good
goaltender does for you. He erased his mistakes and we
made a couple of them early, and Daniel just allowed
us to keep it at Ghosts And then you know,
Quinn's core is a big one because we had then
(02:11:25):
a great start and those guys went in and got
to work and allowed us to get a lead. And
you know, it's something that I think I want to
say this, thecreased creatures. I got to say about our students.
They have been since day one here and what an
unbelievable group it is to provide energy in this building.
(02:11:47):
And the ten thousand that came tonight. I want to
say thank you. But that student section is special and
I want to make sure we recognize them because our
guys sure love playing in front of him.
Speaker 2 (02:11:57):
It was a lot of fun and white with the
towels and then beating the Gophers shutting them out. Yeah,
that was a lot of fun. Hey, you're going to
hit the road to play Michigan. They can get up
and down the ice.
Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
Holy cow.
Speaker 31 (02:12:07):
Yeah, I'll worry about that headache on Monday.
Speaker 2 (02:12:11):
Enjoy yourself tomorrow, nice and easy, all right? The watch
Sure that's coach my castings with us on the post
game show after Wisconsin's four nothing win over Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (02:12:23):
Yeah, he just wants to go home and collapse in
an easy chair right now.
Speaker 3 (02:12:27):
That's enough stress for the weekend. Does he know it's
going to be a headache? How does he know? We
hope to hear from Daniel Howser.
Speaker 2 (02:12:34):
We'll have highlights coming up of Wisconsin's for nothing went
over Minnesota when we come back.
Speaker 3 (02:12:38):
This is bad. Your hockey from theirfield
