you two Wisconsin football Badgers off their second and final
bye week of the season. Now into the final four

games of the regular season, taking on the twenty third
ranked Washington Huskies this afternoon, first meeting between these programs
since nineteen ninety two. And Tash, let's get right to it.

the best chance here today?

Speaker 7 (01:56):
I think you need to see some very similar traits
to what we saw out in the Oregon game, where
the defense was able to really kind of clamp down
and keep what was, you know, offensively outside. Obviously at TUCA,
the throw game not was pretty much non existent.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Find a way to get some short fields.

Speaker 7 (02:16):
I think if you can keep this thing tight, defensively
have to create some turnovers today because for as much
good as we've seen from what this defense can do
getting after the quarterback last two weeks ago, you need
to see that corraling this quarterback, but finding a way,
and it can be defense or special teams. I think

you need to get this offense some short field so
they can build some confidence. Because if it's going to
be a game where they have to go seventy five
or eighty yards on offense, I think that's going to
be a pretty big ask for where we're at right now.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Danny O'Neill expected to get another start at quarterback. He's
you know, been the number two here in recent weeks.
Hunter Simmons had the opportunity. We've seen some good things
for Danny. To be sure, he's a tough good He's
not particularly big, but he's shown some toughness. He's thrown
some bad balls, we get that. But he had been

a starter last year at San Diego State, so he
gets another chance to try to lead this team. Let's
see what he can do.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Here today, no doubt about it.

Speaker 7 (03:17):
And I think one of the things that we saw
in his you know, ten year when he was you know,
kind of leading the charge, does some things with his feet,
and you know, whether it's grabbing a first down on
a third and four and you know, finding a way
you're not going to sit here and line up and
you know, design a ton of run plays for him.
But I do think getting some first downs and finding

some rhythm, and he has been He's made some throws.
Obviously when you look back that you kind of are like,
you know, what did he see there? But there's also
been some other throws, So I think you look at this,
he gives you a couple of more options of moving
the chains, and hopefully that also will help you in
the run game, because, as you know, we've been commenting

(03:59):
a bunch those defensive ends. When your quarterback isn't a
threat or you're not doing a ton of bootlegs, the
ends will crash down and that really kind of tightens
all your run game. So you hope that that adds
another layer to this offense.

Nick Hayden is the honorary captain for Wisconsin. This afternoon,
he'll be out there with Vinnie Anthony Tretch, Kakahuna, Aaron Witz,
and Darryl Peterson. We're about to play some football, but
obviously some news this week with the announcement that Luke
Fickle will return in twenty twenty six as the Badgers
head coach. For more on that, we say hello to
our sideline reporter Patrick Hurb.

Good afternoon, gentlemen. So far we are dry here on
the Camp Randall Service. Not sure that's going to last,
but you're right. Earlier this week, Chris McIntosh got in
front of this team and told them that Luke Fickle
is the head coach beyond this season and they should
be happy and proud and keep fighting like they are
because the way they've played is a reflection of why
he believes that this program is still in the right direction.

I think publicly people want to have three questions, why
do you believe in Luke Fickle? And is Chris macintosh
articulated They believe in him as he's the same coach
that we hired, and he's.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
As competitive as anybody I know to what will change, and.

Speaker 8 (05:07):
He's committed to assessing every aspect and implementing an nil
structure and an investment structure that can help build.

Speaker 6 (05:14):
This roster in three What does investment mean?

And then he's alignment with the campus and Chancellor Manukn
and investing in the infrastructure to be able to build
a roster of retention and new players to add to this.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
And I'll say this, coach Fickel has said that it
was a shot.

Speaker 8 (05:28):
In the arm for this Program's he's he it bothers
him that it needed to be said so many times
this season that McIntosh has faith in him, but he
believes that it's reassuring to this program and they're going
to fight and continue to fight today.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
And now they get the place in football here as
Wisconsin is one the toss has elected to defer here.
So the Badgers and the home Cardinal unis the white
trim Washington. The traveling White unis in a little purple
and gold trim, so they do have clarity on that mark.
With the coaching position, They've got a recruiting class, so
they're going to get signed in the next few weeks

and you hope for all concerned down to the field,
they can just focus on playing football.

And that's you know.

Speaker 7 (06:08):
One of the things that we asked Mac when we
interviewed him was what do you want to see in
these last four weeks because there's still a quarter of
your season right here in front of you. And there's
a lot of guys that have been through a lot
of turmoil that are going to be finishing up. This
is their second to last home game, so finding a
way to you know, compete, but finding a way to

win and having that formula so you have that certainty
you can rally around that, and I think today will
be a really good testament to kind of where this
locker room is. I think for all of the stuff
that has happened and the injuries and the things that
you could say, the one thing that you can definitely
say about this group, I have not heard the all
of these you know, splintering. It has still been a

unified voice. Maybe the play hasn't been where we would
love to see it, but I think this locker room
has held it together in a big way, and hopefully
we'll see some of the fruits.

Of all of this stick to itiveness this afternoon.

As you were saying earlier, I just hope these guys
can be rewarded here and have a happy locker room.
It's been more than a calendar year in Big ten
play where they've been able to say that is Thatthaniel
Vacos gets set to kick off. You got their running
backs as the deep man Adam Muhammad and Jonah Coleman.
Washington will receive go right to left, that is south
to north at Camp Randall Stadium. Vaco's on the run

up of the kick is in the air and he
bangs this to the back line of the end zone
for a touchback. We're underway and Madison as the Huskies
will begin at their twenty five yard line.

And one of the things I was very happy with
in the last I keep saying last week is two
weeks ago, was that defensive effort.

You saw that It was kind of a murky day,

Everybody kind of was assuming Oregon was gonna move the football,
all the explosive plays, and you saw right from the
jump posts, you know, making plays in the backfield.

Benny Barton cheek, You just saw a lot of guys.

Now, Darryl Peterson not gonna be a available for the
first half of today's game, but you just want to
see that same effort and let's see some turnovers that
can be created.

Andyana Hill does get the stark boundary corner, working opposite
Ricardo Hollman from the twenty five yard line to Von Williams.
The high shotguns to have quick pass to Denz Hill,
blast it across the thirty yard line and he gets
smacked by the safety Matt Young at the thirty two
and a quick gain of seven of the game's opening play.

Well and there Wisconsin brought a little pressure Washington well
rpo and Cheeks laid laid into Williams hit a great hit.
Nice job of staying in the pocket. They were able
to get some positive yards, but making him feel it.
You want to make sure he knows you're gonna be
around him all day.

Yehs some asking Cheeks, Mason Rieger, the outside linebackers and
second down and three reading keeping into Von Williams, angles
to his left, gets the first down across the thirty
five yard line, scoots out of ounds, forced that way
by Austin Brown. It's like they will mark right at
the thirty five and that's exactly what he needed for
down for the Washington Huskies.

That's the challenge with a quarterback like that. Your edge
has to make sure they're maintaining present day.

They get right back on the ball playing with Temple
a rip over the middle. That's caught by Busted across
midfield and driven back of the first down. Well, the
Huskies quickly into Wisconsin territory. Deanna Hill the corner drives
him back. First down. Washington now at the Wisconsin forty

Williams little backside heat. He'll throw it up in a
way well beyond the reach of Den's Desmond Roebuck at

You can notice they want to move. They want to go.

They don't want you getting set. They want they're gonna
run rpo. They want that quarterback to be able to
kind of see what's in front of him, what's happening.
And Wisconsin's going to have to continue to keep up
with that tempo.

This is an offensive score. Is better than thirty five
points a game. Has been outstanding in third down situations.
A second and ten now at the Badger's forty seven
quick receiver stream caught by Boston inside the forty five
is yanked down just inside the forty yard lineup Wisconsin
by the linebacker Cooper Catalano, the freshman, the gain of
a better part of eight yards. It'll be a third down,

we'll call it two. Just outside the Wisconsin thirty nine.
The Huskies get right back on the ball. Two receivers right.
One on the left snap the Williams hands to Jonah
Coleman and he gets hit and dropped at the line
of scrimmage. Nothing doing for Coleman as Matt Young gets

This is a team that converts fifty six percent of

And obviously their thought process there on a third and
two thirty three was they're gonna go for it. They
tried to run at Wisconsin, boat up in the middle,
forcing his fourth down.

Boston steps out of bounds and depending on the mark,

way down to the thirty five yard line, a gain
of fourteen for the red shirt freshman, making a couple

four guys missed there. That was just a toss, and
an unblocked guy comes. He arm tackled, not gonna get

breaks in motion to left handoff Jackson Acer hits it
off the right side. He'll drive the pile down to

Camp Randall for the third straight year. A couple of
years ago, he played at Iowa, last year in Western Michigan,
and today he's at Camp Randall as a member of
the Washington Huskies.

He's loving getting good hotel points here. Heinzen at center
did a nice job there, just kind of covering his
guy up. But again that making that edge guy have
to stay home on the quarterback run, helping some spacing
in this run game.

The backfield now wide right, motions left to two up bottling.
The snap is O'Neill under pressure and the traffic is
heavy and Thompson will get to the quarterback as that

better off to live for third down. It was a

A lot of times you'll see there's some motion and

happens and panic kind of starts setting in a lot

can be very physical. Coleman is a very good catching

and Adam Mohammed are two hundred and twenty pounds Coleman's
five to nine, Mohammed had even six feet tall.

They're just holding the point down that little toss off
