Speaker 1 (00:00):
Badgers in their home white uniforms, cardinal pans, helmets, gloves,
numbers in Wisconsin diagonally down the chest, Ohio States scarlet
and gray on the road, and the puck is loose
in the OSU zone downlow. Here's Bottrell backhands shot. Everley
kicked it out oh quickly. Morrissey to bottlel in tight
and everly with a big save early on, just fifteen
(00:21):
seconds in now Ohio State long range shot skipped off
traffic just to the left of Daniel Hauser, ricochets to
the near side angles the defenseman will smack it back
into the Wisconsin zone. Now it's back Ohio State's way.
Caught up in his skates, Jack Rossi near the benches
across the way. Now Wisconsin's Ben deck Sheimer has it
(00:41):
as he back pedals into his own zone up the
right wing wall, Falen to the middle of the ice top.
Now left side, it's Finley. Finley coming in back behind
the goal and he got crushed pretty good hit that
time by Ohio States Felix Koran. Following up, defenseman Chris
Abel poked it out to center buck Eye's Koran gets
flattened by Fitzgerald at center ice and the two go
(01:03):
back and forth. Karan reaching for the puck back for Wisconsin,
Zach Shual's good stick by the junior defenseman as he
punched it out to the blue line. And now the
Badgers gained control again. But boy Ohio State on the
four check very very aggressively. Yeah, and two men, they're
making no bones about it.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
We're sending two guys on the puck, and the third
guy better be covering anybody who might get a pass.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Daniel Hawser paddles puff to the near side and Blake Montgomery.
Now there's zillan Off up the left wing wall. The
Celis Zillanoff dumps it in and gives Chase Sandwich by
a pair of Buckeyes, knocked down by the defenseman McGinley.
Badgers retrieved the puck turnaround, shot out high by Kouchen
and blocked down, taken by the Buckeyes, and Wisconsin's Montgomery
is down and shaken up, passing the Wisconsin slot loose
(01:46):
and the Badger is able to shovel it out to
center and Montgomery is favoring his left leg as he
gets to the Badger bench.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, and it was kind of an innocent play right
at center ice. It wasn't like there was anything vicious
on a checker. What happened, I'm not one hundred percent sure.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Max Montees chases the puck down on the Wisconsin zone
far corner and tried to put it on goal. It
went off his stick in into the protective netting, stopping play.
Face off in the Wisconsin zone one fifty nine into
the first no score. The Badgers and the buck Eyes
and trainer Andy Roady attending to freshman forward Blake Montgomery,
who was questionable tonight anyway because he was battling a
(02:23):
bit of an illness. Didn't practice yesterday, but Montgomery suits
up tonight. In his first shift, he gets banged up.
Ohio State wins the faceoff able long range. It went
off the stick of Brink into the left of Houser,
just missed the near side post. Now out to center ice,
over skating Falan right behind him, Wisconsin's Grady Deering. He's
able to muscle it deep into the Ohio State zone.
(02:45):
Wearing number sixty. The goaltender Christopher every paddled it around
to the near side deck. Szheimer able to keep it alive.
Deering now behind the nets. The big right hander on
his backhand out to the point, but Falan was moving
left and the puck came out to center and the
Badgers have to reach group. Adam piedle Of pressured able
to slide a deep. Deering busting in low right, tries
(03:05):
to get a backhander on and Everley stopped and kept
his stick between his pads. Buck Eye's outlet. Here's Montez
and he'll chip it and head to the bench in
on the fore check as Jake Dunlap, senior fourth liner
from Wyndham, New Hampshire, the Badgers trying to pull it free. Instead,
Nail Crocker has it now. Came from the Western League,
big right handed forward, and the Badgers forced the puck
(03:28):
back to neutral ice and the Buckeyes dump it back
in three minutes in no score. Badgers with a couple
of shots on goal early on. Deering's little burst of
speed is something we haven't seen all year. Here's Botterrel
right wing, tassy with a bit of speedy. He's forced
deep now and then try to cycle behind the net.
Does so do Botterlerel pass low left intended for Morris,
he didn't reach him. But Gavin's got it back, taps
(03:49):
it off to Bottlel and he shoots one y off
the bench. Comes Wisconsin's Aden Dubinski keeps it alive in
the attacking zone. Bottlerell catches backhand flipped it behind the net,
wrap around Morrissey kept out by every Ricochet's at the
far side, and Bryce Ingles got it again and Engles
throws it all the way down on Wisconsin's ned and
Houser stops the rolling puck with his stick parallel to
(04:10):
the ice and then covers it up as Riley Thompson
was in the vicinity sixteen twenty one to go in
the first no score. Wisconsin and Ohio State. Logic had
joined us tonight on the Badgers' sports network.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I'm a swimming Simon Tassi kind of likes playing against
Ohio State with three Quebec players on their team, two
from Montreal and one from Kirkland. I imagine when they
start trash talking, it would be in French.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
I put it so so and thankfully we have someone
up here who can translate. Oh, I know I play,
I know you do. I know all the dirty words.
I'm not going to say. I could get.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Into a wholesome conversation by any strategedy imagination.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Two of the better face off teams in the country,
Wisconsin at Ohio State Badgers with the puck Oliver tolkat
it lost it out to the blue line Weston Knox,
his first shift of the season got knocked down by Koran.
He remains down of the ice and now the Buckeyes
lifted back to the blue line, but held in by
Tulk who turned it over to Jake Carabella, a Washington
Capitol's draft choice. He from the Ontario Major Junior League
(05:10):
and now Ohio State ice the puck fifteen to fifty
to go on the first offensive zone face off coming
up for the Badgers. So we're averaging four point one
goals per game and again three and one in the
Big Ten. Scored ten last weekend at Michigan and the
Wolverines had given up only a goal and a half
per game prior to that series.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Montgomery back out on the ice, so it must not
have been too severe of an injury.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Maybe he's just going to find out how good it is.
Zillanoff will center. Horbock's playing the left wing right now,
Montgomery reaching for the loose buckets shoveled over the top
of Deckzheimer hustling after it. Good play by Jack Falin
to help his d partner route and dex Sheimer picks
it up and with speed dumps it into the right
corner of the Ohio state zone to our left. Montgomery
behind the net a little bit of contact there and
(05:55):
now Ohio state deep in the Wisconsin zone. Centering pass
was broken up by the Badgers, Falan digging for it,
Davis burns side their captain top line out for the
Buckeye's route, and right now Rossi out to the point
Ingles far side, played deep by Broughton Sabo to the
stick of Riley Thompson, wheeling pass blind pass didn't reach
his intended receiver to the right of the Badger's cage.
(06:18):
Zillonoff able to knife it free in that horback lifted
it up to center, run down by Montgomery whirling on
his backhand, but bumped off balance ever so slightly by
Ingles and lost possession of the puck. Schules knocks it
down here the Wisconsin offensive blue line and then fend
it off the four checker wise and one handed it
back into the Ohio state zone and a whistle and
(06:41):
off side called on Wiscon's a good strong play by
the defenseman Zach Schulz at the Ohio State line.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, with one big left arm, he kind of horsted
the guy to the side and with a long stick
on the right arm, he pokes it back into the zone.
Unfortunately it ended up being an off side, but back
to the matter, being a heady turned it over at
that blue line, it would have been a loan break
for the.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Ohio State player. Shouls with Logan Hensler, sophomore defenseman from Woodbury, Minnesota,
the Ottawa Senator's first round draft pick this year.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
And I really like this, Paar, I really like this.
Par five and six. You're doing well, Morris.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
He's out with Botterl and Tassie facing their third line
of James Hong, Max Montes and Thomas Wise. Why is
a Madison native blade at Edgewood High School. Badger's force
a turnover, then lost it back to Montes, who's full
of energy. Max Montes left hander Where's number sixteen breakout
passed far side of the stick of Hong ran into
Wisconsin's falen and now back to center Ice. Nathan mcbrair,
(07:40):
assistant captain from doublin Ohio. A defenseman with Chris abel
head Man passed off the stick of Hong, chasing it
down Montese oh pivots away from Hensler, who eyed him
up and missed the hit on the far side boards.
Now Hong to able farside. Mcbraer low shot didn't get through,
picked up by Falan stick handling, falls to his knees
and turned it off over. It's McBrayer low right left
(08:02):
hander out the Hong long range shot. That one off
his stick and wide to the right of Houser. Now
Tassy able to bump it out the center. Badgers have
it two on two. Morrisy gains the line, then slowed
with a check by the defenseman Bryce Ingles and now
Bottling on the fore check squeezed it free for a moment,
but now the Buckeyes possessed thirteen forty to go here
in the opening period no score, but played deep into
(08:24):
the Wisconsin zone. Good play by Dubinsky the wall off
Ryan Gordon. The Badgers now have it weston Knox stick
candling and bumps it back to his deep partner Dubinski,
who's got some time in space. Long leave feed for Fitzgerald.
It went off his stick, apparently so no icing quickly
after it turnover. Now Finley low Lefty shoots one trying
to go short side. Everley down on his knees, made
(08:45):
the stop with his shoulder and now chopped out by
Ohio States Nail. Crocker. I had the dunlap with speed,
good pope check, good back pressure by Aiden Dubinski to
make the play. Finley the other way, tried to walk
the defense ben Ethan Strachey, no luck there. Now tries
to dig it free in the OSU zone. Crocker with
it one hands it to Strachey. Bock to Crocker thirteen
(09:06):
minutes to go in the first no score, three to
one shots on goal in favor of the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, you would think with all the action and the
end and action that shots would be a lot more significant.
But again, once you get inside the blue line, both
teams pushing people out.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Valent chips and chases at a past Montgomery right circle.
He was tied up quickly and the Buckeyes get it
back to neutral ice. Horbock over skates twice, gathered in
now by Koran to Adam Eisley and his shot went
off the sticking up over the crossbar boy that came
off his stick quickly Adam Eisley and Minnesota State transfer
(09:41):
from the right wing, shoots one through the low slot,
held in far side by McGinley, the junior from Calgary, Alberta.
And now it spins all the way to Jack Horback
near the Badgers bench back hands it into the offensive zone.
Montgomery quickly after it takes it low right and then Horback,
with a little contact from Isley, ran into Everley. The
pass intended to Horbach didn't get to him, and Montgomery's
(10:03):
got it back at center, and he appears to be
just fine because leaving right drop pass. Now Penzler shoots one.
Ever League kept it out with his left skate, and
now the Badgers continue to possess in the offensive zone.
Setting off with Kuchen and far corner. It slides away
from one buck eye and thrown out wildly to center
by another, and the Badger's shoals back to get it
(10:24):
for Wisconsin eleven forty to go in the first still
no score. Ohio State averaging two point nine goals per game,
allowing two point one and again lost the last time
they played two weeks ago swept at home by Penn
State three to two and four to three that first game.
Who were seventeen penalties in that first game. Between the
(10:44):
Buckeyes and the Mitney Lions buck back at center ice
and the Buckeyes control.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
This has been end to end, despite the fact that
there's been so few whistles here in the first eight
minutes or eight and a half minutes. It has been
end to end and no team has really had any
glory scoring opportunities.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Early Botterrel had won in tight with a backhand. That
was about it.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yep, there's not much on the score sheet that's gonna
show big time shots.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
On net Ope Knox turned it over behind the net.
Burnside's pass picked off by Kooking and good play outlet
the finn Brink didn't gain the red line, pressured in ice,
the puck icing on Wisconsin ten forty seven to go
in the first period. We have no score here at
the Coal Center. Badger fans choose chill and celebrate responsibly
twenty one means twenty one. Corps Light choose chill twenty
(11:31):
twenty five. Cores Brewing Company, Golden Colorado.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Well head official, the guy with the red armbands was
standing over there counting numbers. So all of a sudden,
some people who thought they got off the bench or
got to the bench aren't.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
They have Dubinski and Knox defensively with Botterrel, Brink and
zillan Off and Vassili won the draw to the corner.
The Badger's in a battle there. Zillanoff finds the stick
of Finn Brink up ahead to center. Botteril crawled off
his stick and the Buckeye set it back in. They've
got numbers in the offensive zone. Now the Badgers have
plenty out to the point. Long range shot by McBrayer
(12:12):
goes airborne about thirty feet up. Jump ball yep passed
to the slot wise, couldn't handle, taken away by Wisconsin's Finley,
he mishandles, the puck chopped at it found its way
to botterlel slot. Here's talk he'll shoot one, but it's
blocked good coverage by Thomas. Why is to get back
in that shooting lane? Now, here's hong for Ohio State.
Three Badgers wide defensively, and Ohio State is offside ten
(12:35):
o seven ago. In the first period, Wisconsin and Ohio
State no score. Minards is a proud sponsor of Badger

To night's promotion, cow gloves col mittens were handed out
to the student section first. I think five hundred that
came prease. Reachers are here in abundance. Tonight passed at
Finley low right, got tied up by the defenseman Ingles.
Fitzgerald went to one knee back upon his skates, trying
to retrieve behind the net, and now Ohio State will
(14:21):
bump it out to center. Yeah. A fantastic student section
here tonight, going up into the second level, all the
way to the top row of the second level. Buck
guys have the puckets. Felix Kuran, Kuran with four goals
eight points this season plus six of transfer from RPI's
got some speed. He can shoot and he does. But
dex Sheimer got in the way, and now deering I
(14:43):
had to Fitzgerald off the wall. Christian gathers skates. It
stops looks hassles won from the hash marks, stopped by
Everley and almost stuffed between his pads. Every gets a
whistle in a face off. The come in the Ohio
State zone. No score nine twenty one to go on
the first. Badgers have held Ohio's date to just one
shot on goal in the first ten and a half minutes.
(15:03):
They've had a lot of near misses.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
That would be the other part of it that I
would add into And how many shots actually missed the net.
I'm not one hundred percent sure, but they've had some opportunities.
But I'll give the Badger defenseman all the credit in
the world. There's been no rebounds or no deflections the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
That blocks seven shots already. To Ian, that's impressive. Face
off to the left of every I know what Zach
will tell me. I just couldn't get out of the
way fast enough. Well, guys, win the face off and
get it out to center and then cough it up
again and Deering taps back to Shoals, goes D to
D to Logan. Henzler, the man's to Brink, wanted to
(15:40):
send it far right, but he threw it into the
right hand of the defenseman McGinley, and then he gives
it back to Wisconsin. Engle passed to Brink left wing
across the line stops little stutter step against McGinley. Now
battling to maintained possession, gets some assistance from Adam Piedla
Brink throwing his body around and then Crocker stood up
(16:01):
by knocks and deering trailing able to play the puck
away from Harm's way and it's back out to neutral
ice a thirty five to go on the first no score.
Chris Abel Now from Libertyville, Illinois, at center pass, knocked
down by Tassie found deering right wing Bottrel on the
attack slot. Here's deering. Oh, he just couldn't catch the pass,
(16:23):
kind of handcuffed him as he was going left, the
big right hander. And now a back play by Dubinski
as he was back checking as Ohio State was on
the attack, and he pulled down Jake Rossey. Delayed penalty
coming up on Wisconsin. Ohio States added an extra attacker.
Abel at the point left wing Rossie slot pass. He
(16:43):
found his man Oldhauser, stopped the shot in tight bumped
the stick of Broughton. Sabo in covers, but Wisconsin will
be shorthanded for the next two minutes. Dubinski maybe for
a holding.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I would imagine it'll be a holding call because he
kind of grabbed him and pulled him down right at
the blue line. I don't think that that player that
he pulled down would have had any opportunity to get
the puckers score. But I think he also embellished it
quite well. I don't think Aiden put much of a
hold on him, to be honest with you. Regardless, the
(17:15):
Badgers will go short handed with eight h two left
here in the first period, it is holding.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
On new Binski at eleven fifty eight. The Badgers penalty
killed eighty six percent this season, just one power play
goal allowed in eleven Big Ten games so far, and
killed off all seven Michigan power plays last week when
the Wolverines had the number one power play unit in
the country Ohio State, eighteen percent on the mat had
batted six of thirty three.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, ten for ten was a pretty oppressive penalty kill
percentage last weekend.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Here's brought in Sabo down the wall to Jake Carabella.
Left hander sweeps it back to the point and the
left handed sable the quarterback. On this power play back
right wing Carabella. They're playing pitch and catching the slot
he steps in. Carabella is shot low right, went off
the stick of it up and out of play. Thirty
seconds gone by on the two minute minor to Aiden Dubinski.
No score here, seven thirty two left in the first well.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
You can see what they're trying to set up. They've
got the box from Wisconsin, trying to move the box
over to the board side and then wide open on
the far side. I can't remember which number it is.
It might be Islee, I'm not sure. Yeah, but he's
just primed to shoot it off the pass dek Sheimer
and knocks on the penalty kill. The face off one
by Fitzgerald and cleared by Dak Szeimer. Finley joins Fitzgerald
(18:31):
on this penalty kill. All right, with it is brought
in Sabo, he'll leave it back into the Ohio state
zone and here come the Buckeyes burnside fans right. Koran
takes a bump, but pass to the point in Sabo
far side. Now it's Thompson back to the center point
in Sabo right wing. Carabella open man far side stepping
(18:51):
in was Karan is shot blocked by Dax Sheimer. Now
Carabella's got it back at the right dot, pressured by Knox,
throws it pass out to Sabo out of the tone
hip free by Findley. He's got a breakaway shorthanded Finley
comes in Hills one low right pad saved made by
Everly and the Buckeyes turning come the other way.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
That might be a first. He shot low Finley five goals,
ten points an eight ten games so far, had a
chance there and tried to beat him Low. I'm sure
he wanted to get it just over the pad, but
just missed. And now he's positive.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
When the scoring opportunities are in favor of the penalty killers.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Look how pass slot turn around shot they score. Ryan
Gordon a broken play fought through the contact to the
right of Houser, a power play goal in Ohio States
on the board first here in Madison, thirteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Four at the time of the goal, and it was
kind of a broken play. The puck went into the
far corner and as he just came out, he just
kind of chipped it out towards the front and sweeping it,
I guess is the best way to put it. It
wasn't much of a targeted shot, ends up beating our
wonderful goaltender and down low. I guess they're going to
(19:59):
get the Ryan Gordon of course, the goal, but I
don't know. I haven't handed out the assists.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Yet gordon Is first goal of the season, a power
play goal at thirteen thirty four. So Ryan Gordon, the
junior from Stone Mountain, Georgia, gets Ohio State on the board.
Buck guys have outscored their opponents eleven to three in
the first period this season. The Badgers have outscored their
opponents eleven to four in the first period this season
(20:26):
to the Buckeyes on the board first year. Tonight and
Ohio State went six and one against Wisconsin. Last year
ended the Badger's seaton season in the first round of
the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus. Now a whistle and
delayed offside against Ohio State a laateally whistle, thankfully because
Montes had the edge on the Badger defender. Time out
on the I six ZHO five to go in the

Badgers down won nothing. Ryan Gordon a power play goal
at thirteen thirty four, his first goal of the season.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Well, you look back at opportunities and you see that
Quinn Finley had a shorthanded breakaway and didn't score, and
they came back and just one.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
An average play ends.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Up getting a tip in shot to go into the
back of the net.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
It's not how many right, it's how many score face
off just outside the Wisconsin blue line. Won by the Badgers,
and here's Deckheimer right through the middle with speed. Chip
the pass right wing to kuchin In pokes it to
the corner in Deckzheimer behind the net intended for zillanoff
didn't reach him. Falan pinches down left wing to keep
(22:51):
it alive. Sports behind him, and now it's taken by
James Hong, former Madison capital from Irvine, California. Here's out
to the point. Little backhander by mcbraer as he was
pressured by Montgomery blocked. Here's Montgomery into the offensive zone,
high slot, turn around pass right wing and tennant for
Kuchen and he was defended well by the back checking Montes.
(23:12):
Now the referee gets in the way on a D
to D pass and the Buckeyes struggling a bit to
get out. Now they'll just tip chip into open ice
and quickly after it was Wisconsin Zach Schulz and sends
it back in while the Badgers are in the midst
of a change. Six or four shots on goal in
favor of Wisconsin won nothing, though Ohio State leads five
twelve to go in the opening period. Long lead feed
(23:34):
deflected at center icing waved off. Howser will sweep it around,
has to hustle back to the net and does quickly.
Burnside had the puck on the near wall, but Deering
got there quickly as well, preventing any attempted shot on goal.
Fourth line out now for Wisconsin, Deering Piedla and Brink
Riley Thompson with Rossi and Burnside their number one line.
Burnside opened got behind Knox in the Wisconsin zone, but
(23:57):
Burnside couldn't get the puck to him. He was skating
right down the middle of the ice all by his lonesome.
Now here's Weston Knox with a puck. Three assists in
eleven games for Knox a year ago. His first point
came in his second career game at two to one
win at Notre Dame last November. Here's Finley now left wing,
miss handles for a moment, now pokes it for himself
(24:18):
and had it batted away from him, and now Eisley
will scoop it towards the Badger's net, steered aside by
Howser to the corner behind the cage. Karan, roughed up
by Knox, gets back on his skates and comes out
of there with a puck passed a Carabella left wing,
deflected by Fitzgerald, put in tight. Iley got knocked down
by Noxy, had position blocking out the Badgers defender, and
(24:39):
when he tried to shoot the puck, he fell down
and pushed it wide. Now Smith shoots one load of
the ice and it skips through the blue paint Ingles
pinches down right wing. He's got a goal line right
setting up Eisley. Left pad save made by Howser. How
Eisley wide open. He's got it again. Adam Eisley from
Lake Elmo, Minnesota, around to Smith side angles Ohio State
(25:02):
with all kinds of offensive zone time. Here, here's Carabella
knocks tired trying to hang with him. Caribella skates to
his backhand out to the point, angles floating shot knocked
down by Wisconsin and it's cleared ever so slightly by Dubinski.
Buckeyes pick it up. They'll change three fifths of their skaters.
The Badgers will get a partial change. Tassy can't catch
(25:23):
the blue line and it trickles back into the Ohio
State zone one nothing, Buckeyes three point thirteen to go
in the first down the middle of the ice. Gordon
again back, can't dig south Howser boot he recovers, makes
the stop trailing on the play. Tassy knocked it out
of the blue paint to the corner. Oh Howser stops
Gordon on a breakaway. Now it's lobbed deep into the
(25:46):
Wisconsin' z own faling. Boy, the Badgers have had some
defensive breakdowns in their zone here. Ian.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Yeah, and I think it's just the fact that it's
the off winger for Ohio State who's cutting across, not
just some of the center iceman and the guy on
the puck side.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Wisconsin can't get to the puck. Buck eyes have it.
The student section trying to cheer on their Badgers, and
we've got a whistle and we have too many men
on the ice. Nope, icing, No, the referees got his
arm up. Sorry, now they're gonna call icing. Yep. Yeah,
that's what the linesmen we're calling.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
And then I saw the striped shirted one go running
over to Ohio State's bench. Yeah, and again they've got
to be very particular of who gets caught out there
on the icing, the defensive team cannot make the change
on the whistle.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Tom Delafranco was pointing at the Ohio State bench and
for a moment led me to believe that there may
have had too many men on the ice. Not the
case it was icing. Ian's right, Ian's always right. If
I'm not, I'm left face off to the right now.
Christopher Everley, who's had a quiet first period after the
Badger's initial burst, Shoals leaps at the blue line, trying
(26:59):
to hold the zoo. Dropped it on the blue line,
but the line's been there. Called Wisconsin offside two and
a half minutes to go in the first one. Nothing
Ohio states.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Those are tough ones to call because the skates were
outside the blue line.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
But he had his hand inside the blue line and
when he knocked it down it was on the blue line,
but his skates were still outside borderline.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Call. But Max Montes wins the face off mcginling a
head off the stick of whys taken by Shulls. Headman's
to zill and off to his left in Montgomery across
the line stick Candling trying to walk to the defenseman
does fourhand back, can't kick get a shot off oh
and then chucked away by Montes. One on one with
(27:40):
Zach Schulz Montese wide left, Shual stays on him stick,
he gets checked by Horbock knocks him down with a
clean hit right in front of the Badger's gold mouth.
Now another collision between Hensler and Ohio states Hong the
Badris Hensler has it, scoops it ahead to center, bounces
over the stick of Montgomery. He'll give chick, but the
defenseman stracked he has position, turns and sends it to
(28:03):
center and then misplaying at dex Seimer Montes he needs
a change. He'll sweep it into the offensive zone burnside
in Dexheimer on the near side Dexi kicks it to
his stick. Now Zillanoff finds an open man that's Dubinski.
Sauce pass ahead of Montgomery about belt high and Wisconsin
just ice the puck with ninety seconds to go in
(28:24):
the opening period of play.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Yeah, that's a tough one because you get into a
situation where I think it's deering who's gonna have to
come back out. I'm not a one hundred percent sure. Oh,
maybe he's already back out there. My problem. Yeah, whoever
it is can't come off the ice, and I think
it might have been Piedla, who I was looking at
eighteen versus nineteen, But those guys are tired.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Base off to the right of Zillanoff. Yep, Dubinsky, Dexheimer, Piedla,
Montgomery and Zillanoff. Puck loosened the circle to the right
of Hauser, taps it over to Dexzheimer and bad have
some time and space as the Buckeyes back off for check.
Chance to change true single man four check, it's Riley Thompson.
(29:10):
Then kind of a one to two to two as
they're back by the Wisconsin line and the red line.
The Badgers gained the red line. Morrissey pushed it ahead
too far for Tassi back to the blue line and
shoals his pass went off the body. Now Morrissey turns
and clanks it off the glass behind the nets a
minute ago in the period won nothing Ohio State and
now it's back to center and Logan Hensler has it
(29:31):
for the Badgers. Ancler two goals last three games he's
played in. Here's Smith now for Ohio State outled to
Rossi up to center off the stick of Morrissey, taken
by Thompson. He flips it on goal and Houser deflex
it far side. Botteril now will bank it off the
wall out to center, over the head of the defenseman,
(29:53):
bounces near the OSU line and then chipped ahead now
to Carabella looking tries to make a move on Shoals,
who knocks him down. It slid through and underneath and
maybe behind Houser no who was down, and then reached
back with his left glove hand to keep it out.
The referee was right there, blew his whistle, did not
indicate goal is stoppage and play that almost snuck in.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
I was ugly, but it was a great play, you know,
as Zak Sualz just hammers the young man and as
the puck is flopping around over there. The referee had
blown his whistle, and notice the ah point right to
the faceoff dot, not to the back of the net.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Howser fell back whards just to make sure, and then
he was kind of scooting on his keyster if you will,
like you were sliding on a rug, you know, trying
to get it just a goal zone out of the
blue paint. Yeah, Badrews win the face off. Wisconsin down
won nothing. Final seconds of the opening period, Fitzgerald ran
(30:49):
into traffic. Oliver Tult now tied up by Carabella deep
in the OSU zone ten seconds to play. It's all
able to muscle it around to Finley and he shoots
one on goal for the tough Ingle and Everley made
the stop and covered. And then after the whistle, Tulk
got smoked behind the nets. Referees in there quickly to
make sure nothing else comes from that. Finley had an
(31:11):
id in his head how much time was left on
the clock, and he picked it up from the hash
marks left and put it through traffic on goal. Everly
made this stop, but the Badgers get an offensive zone
face off with four point four seconds left in the period.
One draw, one win, one shot, right, Oliver. Your theory
is Oliver Talk will take the draw fifty nine percent
(31:31):
in the face off circle for Talk against Carabella, one
of their best face off men, Talk wins the draw.
Tap back Finley shot blocked by the sprawled out Adam
Eisley with one point four seconds left. Well, he won
the draw cleanly, But you can tell what Ohio State
was told if the buckets won cleanly. We're going out
to block it. We're not going to allow any free shots. Yeah,
(31:53):
Tulk won the draw. Fitzgerald calmly tapped it back to
Finley who was in the high slot, and he pulled
a trigger. Let's see if Wisconsin can do it again.
The Buckeye stack up at the hash marks right in
front of every waiting for them to drop the puck.
It's Gordon against Tulk again. Oliver Tulk wins the face
off to dex Sheimer. Nope, pass broken up in the
horn sounds, ending the opening period of play. While the
(32:16):
Buckeye score the low goal, a power play goal. It's
one nothing OSU after one period of play. Badger fans,

Power play his first goal of the season, Max Montes
and Bryce Ingles with the assists. So Gordon from Montes
and Ingles at thirteen p thirty four that after Quinn
Finley was stopped at a short handed breakaway.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
It's amazing how the complexion of the game can change
on a miss and and a good goal or whatever
you want to call their powerplay goal, call it whatever,
But yeah, it was a golden opportunity for Quinn Finley.
I've been critical of him and he's had three or
four shots on net and all of them have been
low shots. Yeah, And I kept thinking, you know, he
(36:49):
only knows how to shoot high. But then I looked
at the size of their goaltender. He's like six foot
twelve and three hundred pounds. Even if he goes to
his knees, he's still covering three quarters of the net.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Yeah. So shots on goal in the opening period eight
for Ohio State, seven for Wisconsin both goaltenders Everley and
Houser with seven saves. The only penalty was on Aiden
Dubinski of Wisconsin, and then Ohio State scored on a
power play to take that one nothing lead. How has
Ohio State been able to limit Wisconsin scoring chances?
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Well, I guess the one thing about it is they
don't ever really give you any opportunity from the board
or from the boards.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
If you're throwing the puck out in front. There's just such.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
A calamity in front. I guess there's the best way
I could put it. Everybody knows where everybody is for
Ohio States team, but they didn't give any second shot,
rebound shots, kip in shots, any of the rest of
that kind of stuff. I think it's just they're so
good defensively, so the Badgers kind of started to looking
(37:50):
like they were getting frustrated at the end of the
first period.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
All right, the Badger's down won nothing to Ohio State.

Brian Posik and Ian Parron here at the Cole Center
in Madison, Wisconsin, currently trails Ohio State by the score
of one to nothing, and I wanted to bring up
while we have a moment or two, congratulations to Tim Coglan,
longtime head coach at Saint Norbert College. He's won five
national championships there. Last weekend when Saint Norbert beat Dubuke,
(38:44):
Tim coglan moved five hundred games over five hundred for
his career. Five hundred games over five hundred, the first
Division three coach ever to do that, and only the
second coach at any level to be five hundred games
over five hundred, the other being Ron Mason, the longtime
late Michigan State head coach. So yeah, Tim Coughlin, five
(39:07):
hundred games over five hundred, and then he made it
five oh one by beating his alma moderate KB Wilded
Arena on Tuesday night forty two.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
I was about to say, he's gonna credit it all
to the fact that I graduated from Point.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Under the tutelage of Mark yep. Just inducted into the
Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in September was Mark Mazzolini,
along with Carol Marshall and some other stiff, some other
stiff goaltender. Yeah, he's a Hall of Famer for sure. Greenie.
(39:44):
All right here the Badgers trail Ohio State won to nothing,
and we'll see if Wisconsin can get its offense going here.
It's been one of the highlights of the early going
this season, the Badgers, averaging four goals per game, put
up ten last weekend on the road against Michigan. But
Ohio State hellhman check in the first twenty minutes here.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Well, if you're a hockey purist, you're in a situation.
Shots are eighty seven. The scores won nothing. You can't
ask for a much more competitive than that.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Badgers have Morrissey, Tassy and Bottrel on the ice and
push the puck into the offensive zone. It comes out
to center and then sent back in by Dexheimer. But
the delayed off side and a face off at neutralized
sixteen seconds into period number two.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
I'm not sure if it was an offsider. If Dexheimer's
shot went off a Badger leaning on the bench chep,
but regardless, the face off's gonna come to the same place.
Jake Carabella to take the draw.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Washington Capitol's fifth round draft pick a couple of years
ago played for the Gwelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey
League for four years. Had a pretty good career there too,
one hundred and seventy one points in two hundred and
forty nine games. Good addition for Steve Rollicks club. One
of six trans on this OSU team. The Badgers with
the puck and the offensive zone, dex Sheimer tied up deep.
(41:05):
English now threw it around to the far side wall.
Tassi pressure to the corner in Dexheimer and then he
coughed it up and English skates away with it. Angles
a pass up to center and Koran and he'll send
it into the corner and give chase, but got knocked down,
so Wisconsin quickly to it. Phelan bumped pass ahead to
Tassy off his stick and the Buckeyes have it again
back in their own zone. Minne gone by in the
(41:25):
second one nothing Ohio State. McBrayer on the attack, reaches
the puck, throws it through the low slot, hoping to
hit Karan stick. Unable to do so, Buck goes off
the skate of Finley, slides free. Morrissey's got it pass
off to Fitzgerald right wing. Morrissey takes a left hand
turn and goes to the bench. Out comes Oliver Tulk
down the far side wall. But the Buckeyes get to it.
(41:46):
Now they come. Here's David Burnside weaving to his left,
defended by Hensler, point past McBrayer, shot low, hit the
skate of Thompson before it got to the goaltender and
pulled free. Now by Hensler up the middle of the
tulk and the Badgers across the Ohio state line, and
Christian Fitzgerald tried to shoot at Abel got in, sticking
the way taken by Thompson a blind wheeling pass in
(42:08):
his own zone. He was fortunate, went off of skate
to one of his teammates and then up to center.
Burnside tied up. Hensler went down puck loose at neutral
ice again went off the linesman. Burnside had to crawl
off his stick. Hensler poked it away from him, giving
Chase now Rossi in the Wisconsin zone. Brink white pass
right wing and whistle and too many men on the ice.
(42:30):
I won two, three, four or five.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
But there was the person who came onto the ice
played the puck before the other person got off for
Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Yep. So this time they got caught. Yeah, too many
men on the ice against Ohio State. Wisconsin's going to
get a cutest power plane. We'll see if this lifts
the Badgers a little bit, give.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
It a little more uh jump in your step hopefully.
Unfortunately this uh well, this will be the second unit
that's coming out. I was about to say the Finley
top line unit had just been out there for about
forty five seconds. So we'll start with Tulk Kukan in.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Montgomery yep, hens lateral and henslayer yep. Talk to take
the draw to the left of Everley, Wisconsin's power play
number one in the country thirty six percent sixteen of
forty five eight for eighteen of the Big ten. Badgers
win the face off and set up in the offensive
zone to our right. Talk with it left wing, looking
Montgomery on the right wing down to the goal line.
(43:28):
Kukan in Montgomery went back door, couldn't get him the puck.
Kukanan now with it again goal line left, pressured by McGinley.
Tulk sends it out to the point. Hensler's stick handling
away from Montes left wing. Tulk cross eyes from Montgomery
off of skate loosen the slot and heaved out by
Ohio State and the Buckeyes will quickly change their penalty killers.
Lucky break by Ohio State. They got a stick on it.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
There were two Badgers sitting right there ready to pounce
on it, but it didn't work out that way.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
Now the top unit comes out, although Hensler will stick
candle into the offensive zone and stop shovels it off
to Tassy, who whips it around to the far side,
and Fitzgerald Henzler will stay. Now Ben dex Sheimer comes
out on the number one power play unit. Morrissey has
it for Wisconsin. Pass to the right wing, kick to
the stick by Fitzgerald, now deck Shimer left wing. Finley
puts one low stick save made by Everley ricochet to
(44:15):
the near corner. Morrissey back out to the point in
dex Sheimer left side. Now Finley catches and looks. Finley
moves to the setter point backside left. Fitzgerald sweeps it
in front stuff by Everley, reap out attempt, Fitzgerald denied
and then got crushed to the ice by Burnside as
Everley dives out and covers the puck. Well, Christian had
two chances, the second one he paid for it. I'm
(44:37):
not sure.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
I think it was Burnside who, yep, laid the lumber
to him. And then when he was laying there and
the referee standing right there, Burnside gave him another cross
check right to the back.
Speaker 1 (44:48):
Why there's not a penalty on that? I am a
little bit of confused. Badger's power play will continue. Forty
nine seconds left of the bench miner for too many
men on the ice.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
When you're play such a tight defensive game like Ohio
State does yep, a silly.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Penalty like too many men on the ice? Oh that
just drives coaches wild, and that's where Wisconsin has to
make him pay. Yeah, Morrissey sixty three percent of the
face off circle wins that draw power play. Forty four
seconds left in it. Morrissey down to the goal line,
out to the point dex Sheimer. It'll work it right wing,
now to Finley, back to deck Zheimer. They pressure out high.
(45:30):
Finley whips it out to Morrissey now left wing tried
to shoot and it came off his stick, and take
it away by Wise. Heart of the middle of the
ice is Hong. He's on side. Weiss stops four Badgers
in the Wisconsin zone. Now it's Wise behind the net
to Hong. He wanted to pick it up and maybe
look cross it in, but he mishandled. The Badgers take
it away. Fifteen seconds left on the power play, long
(45:51):
lead feed caught by Thing. Lead back pedals into the
offensive zone, lost it. Tassi retrieves. Seven seconds go on
the power play, Finley slopped past for deering. Find him
out to Fitzgerald. Two seconds left of the power play.
Finley steps in Addie at the crossbar with a whistling
wrister from the right wing. Fitzgerald's got it again, walks
the goal line left, put it in front off of skate.
(46:11):
Tassy swings and missus beg your pardon. That was deering
and now here comes Ohio State's Rossy. So the Badger's
zero for one on the power play, still one nothing
Buckeyes fifteen forty four to go in the first oh
to Finley with his exit shot.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
I was about to say, as exciting as that off
the crossbar off the pipe shot is it doesn't even
count as a shot on net.
Speaker 19 (46:30):
Right.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Finley had a team best three shots on goal in
the opening period. Had a breakaway short handed that was
stopped by every good hit far side by Shules On
Koran pucked deep into Wisconsin zone to our left. Shoal,
still battling, takes a tumble down, so does Deering. Riley.
(46:51):
Thompson on the ice with him burnside pulls it free
left point pass for Sabo, chopped away from him by Piedla.
Now brink gives Chason Abel and back for Ohio State.
Long lead feed turn it over right to the stick
of Deering. Badger's on side passed by Deering, intended for Piedla,
picked off by Thompson. Ohio State. We'll scoop it down
in five minutes gone by in the second one nothing
(47:12):
Buckeye's power play goal from Ryan Gordon in the first period,
Piedla pass up into the air, knock down by Deering,
taken by Ohio State. Pass redirected far side with speed.
Isley try to get around Knox. He does, wanted to
wrap it around but had no angle to the nets,
and then Knox recovers bumps. Eisley took the puck away.
His stick came out, did Issley's who now retrieves the
(47:35):
biscuit and it rolls over by the Badger's bench and
back to the Wisconsin line. New Binski long range bump
off for knocks up the middle. Now stick handling beautifully.
He's in and off, eludes Caravella across the line, drop
past Kuchen and hill work left. Now finds an open man.
Faling has it caught up in his skates. He put
one backside. It went off the skate and went wide
(47:56):
to the far post and out to center ice. Falan,
once again for the Badge, put it right on the
stick of Ohio State's Carabella, who dumped it in. And
then Carabella got knocked down by Falan and the Badgers
get the puck back up the middle. It's Falin again
pitched a pass right wing Montgomery, he wanted it cut
to the slot instead, throws a backhander from the right wing.
(48:16):
Everly with a stick, say Montgomery battling for it. Dunlap
took it away, finds the defenseman McGinley. You'll head man
to Crocker in Ohio State three on three the other way,
bad pass intercepted by Morrissey, but Crocker followed up and
poked it back into the Buckeyes possession and now a turnover.
Wisconsin's got it. Here's Morrissey stick handling lost it taken
(48:37):
away by Ohio State, and now the Buckeyes have it
near side Nail Crocker drop pass to the defenseman. Smith
shoots one through the crease far side. Botterrel can't reach
it to get it to center. Buckeyes with it. Dunlop
slot pass. Gordon his shot off the stick of falin
in high. Tassy then chopped it out to center. Botterrel
can't catch up to it as McBrayer squashes him against
(48:59):
the glass head man. Now for Ohio State. Hong passed
behind Weiss loose pucket the Wisconsin line taken by Bontrel
left wing. Now Tassy on him defensively is Ethan Strackey.
Tassy down to his knees. Lost possession. Buckeyes have it
back back and forth we go Ian. Yeah, it's been
breakneck end to end pace here and good hits. Physical
(49:21):
play on both sides won nothing. Ohio State twelve forty
to go on the second long range turnaround shot by
a Hong went through the legs of Shoals and then
through the crease in tight now Montez from the end
boards tried to tuck in a backhander and Houser made
the stop and cover. Twelve thirty two left second period.
Wisconsin still trails Ohio State won nothing. This is badger

gave it away and now here's Hong. The Buckey's playing
with a lot of purpose right now, Sabo his pass
intercepted by Tulk, tries to spring Fitzgerald, get behind the defenseman.
Fitzgerald comes in backhead shot. Beverly got his pat on it,
kept it out. Finley picks it up now left wing,
throws it to the corner in Tulk he'll stick candle
and move it around to the right corner and Fitzgerald
(51:54):
turn around. Pass intended for Finley cutting down the slot,
broken up, comes out to the blue line, kept in
by the bad tree. Bounce one to the left of
the goldtider Everley who tried to snag it with his
left glove hand and it bounced over it and went
to the corner. Now here's Falan farside deck Sheimer. Badger's
tried to pull even long range shot, got knocked down
in front. Abel blocked it down outlet to wise back
(52:17):
to able middle of the ice, and he'll dump it
in one nothing Buckeyes eleven twenty three to go here
in the second period of play.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
That was as good as scoring opportunity as either team
has really had as far as.
Speaker 1 (52:28):
Loan brakes are concerned. Yeah, here's Thompson. Now two on
one pass deflected by Dexzheimer, didn't reach Burnside in time.
Good look by Thompson. Dex Sheimer, defending Burnside, broke up
that two on one play deep in the Wisconsin z own.
And now the Badger's captain takes a hit, but able
to get it to neutral ice. Piedla a head now
(52:49):
to Deering, who sweeps it deep into the Ohio state zone.
In English, the freshman defense been back to get it
from Port Huron, Michigan up to center again, Birdside through
it to the center circle, taken by Deering, Chip passed
the Piella. Badgers have numbers right side. Piedlla passed towards
the slot, went off the skater two on his knees.
Everly he tried to cover. He did, and now a
(53:10):
little skirmish half of the whistle and cooler heads appear
to be prevailing here. I don't know Smith had his
arm around Deering, but I think that's all cool. I
don't think there were prom dates or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
They were just just gonna hold hands, let's put it
that way.
Speaker 1 (53:26):
No, but it was a good drive to the net. Yep.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
You take a look at Piedla. He's down on his knees,
but he went to the goaltender. There was no major
contact to the goaltender, so it's an innocent play, or
it's a regular hockey play. But players do take offense
when somebody else on the other team has touches their goaltender.
Speaker 1 (53:47):
Yeah, there was a lot of contact on goalie Daniel
Hauser last week in ann Arbor, and the referees for
the most part let him play rather see them protect
the goaltender. That's why the crease is painted blue. That's
the goaltender's house. Badgers win the offensive zone face off
Jack Horback will sweep it to the corner in Zen
and Off Montgomery out there on this forward line setting
(54:09):
Off cycles with a defenseman Hensler back behind the net.
Forced to the far corner, Hensler all the way around.
He goes turn around, the shot blocked by Dunlap and
Hensler has to play it back in his own zone
with Dunlap right on him. Fucked to neutral now Dunlap
saw us pass ahead and knocked down by Crocker. He
possesses Pope check by Zen and off Schultz gives Chase
(54:29):
Seling off behind the nets and now Wisconsin's Hensler has it,
tries to fend off. Gordon, passed to Montgomery, drops it
off to Zel and off center circle. Now Montgomery on side.
Looks like he took a stick up near the chin
and the whistle. They're gonna call Wisconsin for offside. I
didn't think that was the case, but they blew the
whistle anyway. In a stoppage and play, we paused ten
seconds for station identification, ten seconds for a legal ID.
(54:53):
You're listening to Wisconsin Badger.
Speaker 21 (54:54):
Hockey Buck Badgers play here. This is your old Badger's
sports station. Thirteen to ten WIBAD.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
Down one nothing, ten minutes exactly left in the second
period of play. Not a lot to cheer about for
all the creased creatures who have made it up into
the third deck here at the Cole Center tonight. There's
lots of good support from the student body. Oh yeah,
lower bowl is almost filmed. Quite a few fans in
the second deck here tonight. Buck in the Ohio state zone,
(55:27):
Buckeyes have it. Here's Nathan McBrayer out of Dublin, Ohio,
out to center weston Knox now d to d to
Dubinsky and Knox blew at tire, fell down, able to
recover in time to pass off to Bondrel and now
Dubinski dumps it in and gives Chase the defenseman instead.
The Buckeyes get to it first and they'll break out
(55:47):
Felix Koran pass up to the Wisconsin line, knocked down
by Morrissey. Tassy can't reach it back into the Badger's end.
Dubinsky head man's to Morrissey. Tassi able to get it in.
Morrissey feared with by McBrayer. Buckey's turn it over. Tassy
whips it around to the far corner down the wall
deck Ceimer Dotterill picks it up, turn around shot from
(56:09):
long range sticks saved by every Falan then holds his own.
Morrisy lets it slide to the far side in Finley,
passing tenant for Fitzgerald. He flubbed it, taken away by Kuran,
side steps Fitzgerald, although Christian recovered, got his stick on it,
sent back towards center and Kuran now with it. Came
a two on one. Why is with it? Right Wing
wanted to refeed Kuran good stick by Falan and now
(56:31):
a pedalty coming up out of the Badgers defenseman Jack Falen.
He made the original play ian and then he just
kept holding on to Thomas Wise and wouldn't let him go.
Speaker 2 (56:39):
And I don't think Thomas Wise was in any hurry
to get away from him. Yeah, once he realized that
it was going to be a penalty. But Jack Falin
will take a two minute holding minor.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
I'm assuming that is the case.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
At eleven fourteen yep, eight minutes and forty six seconds left.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
And it's been such tick tack.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
I mean, we got to look at the shots were
seven to eight in the first period and now it's
thirteen to nine in the second period. It's been a
game of perimeter hockey. Yeah, you saw on that last
shift Wisconsin went around the backboards like seven times before
they even attempted a shot on net. Ohio State's doing
exactly the same thing, except that when they get.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
A breakaway yep Ssconsin's six shots on goal in this period.
Ohio States had only one so far. But a power
play now for Ohio State, although the Badgers win the faceoff,
hoour box steals the puck. Jack trying to get around
the defense, Yeah, he got wiped out and an interference
finally on Broughton Sabo. That play courtesy of Jack horback
(57:40):
from the defensive zone into the offensive zone, drew a
penalty on Broughton on Sabo, and so Wisconsin has effectively
killed off that Ohio state power play, which lasted nine seconds.
That's just in a cup, putting pressure on the defense.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
But well, yeah he did. But look at Horbach. He
dumps the puck in. Both of them are supposed to
go to the puck. Correct, they're not supporting. He doesn't
have the puck anymore. You can't just lay him out
on the ice. But it happens, and we'll skate four
on four. I'm not sure who has the advantage in
this four on four. We've got the wheels of Fitzgerald
(58:18):
in the hands of Hensler, and I'm all sure who
they're gonna put out there for four on four.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
Yep, they've got Thompson and Burnside. Who's got speed. Thompson's
got the hands, Smith and mcbrair. Defensively, Badgers win the
offensive zone face off. Christian Fitzgerald out near the right point,
slides it over to Shoals. He'll cycle out high and
Oliver Tulk tries to move to his right gut around
the defender. Talk now low right, still stick handling, now
pinned against the end boards and falls down. Thompson took
(58:45):
the puck away. Thompson scoops it ahead and tended for
burnside off the stick of Pensler all the way down
to the Wisconsin zone and Shoul's able to sweep it
around the kick plate it out. Ohio State had too
many men on the ice. They don't call it. Montes
hop right off the bench. They had five on the ice.
He scampered back to the bench. Now Finley on the
attack is shot, getting out of the glove of Eberly,
and then he covers. Oh Finley veered left and found
(59:08):
an angle and fired one, but Everley made the stop
and cover.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
If you're going to play four on four and you
get Quinn Finley on a one on one situation and
you can go to the outside with some speed, take
that shot.
Speaker 1 (59:20):
Nine times out of ten.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
It's going to either be a good scoring opportunity or
rebound whatever might happen with it.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
Face off to the right of Everley, Finley and Morrissey
with Dexheimer and Dubinski right now for the cardinal in
white and Morrisey won the face off dex Sheimer shoots
one that's blocked, ricocheted to the corner. Finley shoulder to
shoulder with a defenseman Ingles, and now the Buckeyes have
possession seven fifty to go on the second still one nothing.
(59:48):
Ohio State Ryan Gordon's first period power play goal the
lone marker slot pass shot saved made by Houser off
the stick of Ingles that was point blank just outside
the hash mark straight away. Yeah late coming into the zone.
Montez out to the point, McGinley back out to Ingles,
pass off his stick. He'll run it down and actually
bring it back out to center and the Buckeyes will regroup.
(01:00:10):
Forty seconds left in the penalty to Wisconsin's phalan Then
the Badgers will get a nine second power play. Morrissey
with a steal at center left wing pass Montgomery, good
stick check by Abel to poke it away and now
it slides back deeper into the Ohio State zone and
Chris Abel will take it from there on him as
Fitzgerald lifted his stick, forced to turn over. Hensler down
(01:00:31):
the boards quickly double team sweeps to pass out Fitzgerald's
slot looking find shoals now takes it low left, can't
get a shot off, wheels around to the right side,
cycles wins Hensler. He over skates, but now Logan gets
it back. Go lie right. Hensler behind the net and
looking still looking off to his left, he goes Now
that Fitzgerald runs into trouble. McBrayer immediately on him. Badger's
(01:00:53):
get a quick qunits power play nine seconds past slot
as Hensler stuffed behind everybody. It was behind Hensler, however,
and out to center Ice and the Buckeyes back at
full strength. Two five on five, six thirty to go
here in the second still won nothing, Ohio stay.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Good offensive play by the Badgers, and that last four
on four yep never got out of the zone, never
got into the zone very quickly, but when.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
They did, they stayed there for a while. Badgers, with
a pucket center, poked a head to Zillin off cross
the line. Tassy will backhanded deep bounces off the shelf
of the left corner in botterrel hits the brakes away
from one man, moved it around to the right corner,
and Tassi tried to force a past to Zilling off
That one off of skate the Silly pulls it free.
(01:01:37):
His pass for botterrel broken up by the Buckeyes, and
it's back out to center. Eyes Weston Knox with a
nifty move and neutralizes fires off a pass for ziling
off too far, not strongly enough for Icing, however, now
Tassy down the right wing wall got hit from behind
by Wise and that freed the puck for Gordon, and
the Buckeyes have possession with five thirty eight to go
(01:01:58):
here in the second period one nothing, Ohio states only
two shots on goal in this period for the Buckeyes.
The Badgers have just six, make that seven. Yeah, we
knew it was going to be a defensive stalwart. Think
that way. Auser out of his net whips it round
off the high glass, but the Buckeyes hold it in.
Smith steps in, is shot blocked by Falan off his
(01:02:18):
stick behind the nettic carems. Falan ran into traffic Dex
Sheimer helps his deep partner out. Piedlo will move it
out to center. Sauce ahead for Deering off his stick
swept away from him by Strackey, chased down by Finn
brinket center, and he turns to his right and dumps
it in five minutes to go on the period, Badgers
lines out of the boards. Yep, here's Piedla with Deering
(01:02:39):
and Brank. Fourth line out for the Badgers. Deering try
to work it free. Still battling along the right wing wall,
pinned against the glass by the defenseman pucked down to
the corner in Piedla. Adam Piedl has scored his first
goal to the season last Saturday against Michigan. The Michigan
native Brink there for support along the wall. Deering gets around,
a man falls down. He ain't get a shot off.
(01:03:00):
It still lose. Oh, Piedla got his stick on it,
just couldn't pull the trigger. Brink pulls it free out
the shoals now skates at the middle of the ice.
Zach Schulz leaves it back for Hensler. His shot blocked
by Koran right in front of him. He stuck out
his left skate.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Not a lot of energy in any of the ten
players who are out there on the ice right now.
That's been a long shift in the defensive zone and.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
Now the puck flipped into mid air. Koran got nailed
by Hensler just as the puck was coming. Now no
pedale cooking in fight through a stick check as he
came across the line, turns and sends it to the
corner and talk. Now he cycles for horback low lat
back handed front chance for cooking it that's denied. Tulk
was there too, Dubinski came flying in from the point.
Badger's getting close. Here's horback long range shot that went
(01:03:44):
off the right cheek of the goaltender, Everly, who actually
turned his body to the right and put his left
arm back behind him. Rossie now pass out to Montez,
drives an his skate move out to the point, long
range plast on goal. Houser stopped it, pushed the rebound
high the nets, and then Rossie pushed off balance centering
pass goes off eskate right back to Howser. He covers pace,
(01:04:06):
picking up a little bit. Three thirty two to go
on the second still won nothing Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Good offensive opportunities for the Badgers. Good offensive opportunities for
Ohio State. So much play in the neutral zone drives
me crazy. Badger's trail won nothing. Three thirty two to
go on the second period. Padri Hockey brought to you

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
All of this pressure started for because Tolk lost the
draw and neither none of the Badgers seemed to react
to it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Fuck loose at the Ohio state line in the pedalley,
coming up on the Buckeyes, and so Wisconsin will get
a Cunis power play. Trying to get on the board
here late second period gotch it well, they called it holding.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
I thought it was going to be a hooking and
the hometown favorite, mister Weiss, goes into the penalty box

Blue line sixteen to fifty five. The todd of the
Pedaly Badgers out for two on the power play tonight.
One of those power plays lasted only nine seconds, but
the top rank power play in the country eleven for
twenty seven over the last six games and four for
ten last week end at Michigan unsuccessful so far. The
(01:06:57):
Buckeye's long goal came on the power play. Morrissey, Tassy, Finley, Fitzgerald,
and Dexzheimer on the ice for Wisconsin. The puck was
dropped and Gordon fell down on the seat of his pants. Actually,
the puck wasn't dropped, the line's been held onto it.
The two centermen engaged and they stopped playing. They'll do
it again. Puck loose on the dock, still loose, and
(01:07:18):
the Badgers win it free. Dex Sheimer walks the line
left wing, Morrissey looking to the goal line. They tried
to work a triangular pass for Fitzgerald, didn't work, and
now it's Morrissey to Finley. Quinn's got it out high
near the big ten logo, shoots one low off the
stick of Fitzgerald, taken by Ohio State and chipped out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
There's just no room down there, and Finley did the
right thing. He wasn't going to be able to get
a good shot from any place. Might as well throw
it in front and see what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Dex Sheimer drops it back, picking it up with speed
as Morrissey middle of the ice left wing. Finley tried
to walk the defenseman got around him, then lost possession.
Then he took out the legs of McGinley. Could have
been a slew foot nothing called Wisconsin's Tassy. Now with
it behind the net, he flubs the puck, gets it
back Tassy right wing point pass for deck Seimer handcuffed him,
broken up by Montes, who's got speed, but Tassy hustles back.
(01:08:07):
Montes forced to the corner, then hit by Tassy, jars
the puck free in Wisconsin, Finley has it. Badgers just
do not look in sync here offensively tonight. It might
have something to do with the way Ohio State's playing them. Also,
long cross eyes passed by Fitzgerald that was knocked free
and the Buckeyes take it away and clear fifty seconds
left on the man advantage. Badger's down won nothing. Hensler
(01:08:30):
now out on the power play with Tulkien, Montgomery, Botterrel
and kuchanin Here's Montgomery with speed up the middle of
the eyes Fans off to his left, got around one man,
sweeps it back to the slot, deflected, leaping, keeping it
alive as Hensler in the offensive zone. Kukanan now left
wing to Tulk. Oliver Tulk, he shoots one down low
office sticker two taken by the Buckeyes and cleared.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Yeah, I'm not gonna get to the net, or at
least get to a Badger stick Tulk made the right
decision because I don't think there was any play on
the perimeter that he could greek. But when he threw
it at it's got to either get there or not
get blocked.
Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
One of the two talk to Montgomery across the line.
Ten seconds left in the power play, Badgers turn it
over again. Smith now to Gordon, takes his time. Look
like the Buckeyes were off side. They didn't call it.
Badgers take it away. Power plays expired. Wisconsin though with
a puck in the offensive zone, and Tulk tried to
spin it ahead to Montgomery, couldn't reach it. Minute to
go on the period, Wisconsin down won nothing. Tulk cycles
(01:09:25):
behind the net for Montgomery, Montgomery maintaining possession as he's
defended by Abel out high as Montgomery sends it to
the left wing and Tulk try to put it behind
his back and escape McBrayer. No luck. The puck's still
free in the Ohio State zone of the right of
the goldt header Christopher Everley, who stopped all fifteen Badger
bids so far. Botteril rolls it around the near side,
(01:09:47):
failing down the wall. Right wing, It's loose in the corner.
With thirty seconds to go on the second period, Piedle
had tried to dig it free, zilonoff waiting for it
to pop free. Brank and Shoals also out of the
ice for whisky. It's down in the corner in Piedla,
defended by Carabella. Eighteen seconds to go on the period.
ZeLing Off over skates now he has possession, pass deflected,
(01:10:09):
went into the air and then bounced out to center.
Eight seconds to go on the period, right wing Piele
It picks it up. He'll shoot one low, easy say
by Everley behind the net. Ziling Off got it off
to Dubinski, is shot quickly from the right wing, sailed wide,
and that's it for period number two. While Ohio State
managed only four shots on goal in that period did
(01:10:30):
not score. The Badger's had nine shots on goal. Wisconsin
has yet to score. It's one nothing Ohio State after

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
Brian Posik with the parent here at the Coal Center
of the Badgers Trail Ohio State by the score of
one to nothing. Series finale tomorrow night, six pm Central,
face off five point thirty pre game on the Badger
Sports Network. Well, let's see if Wisconsin can get something
going here against a very very testy, uh not testing.
(01:16:44):
How about disciplined, strong defensive unit in the Buckeyes.
Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Yeah, they pride themselves, There's no question about it. Steve
Rollick was one of the best defensive wingers that ever
played at the University of Wisconsin. Carried over that tradition
of hard work and defensive play.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Goals will come once you get.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
The opportunities, but if you don't allow any, it's even better.
It's kind of Steve Roddicks philosophy. Since he was captain
of the nineteen ninety championship team in Detroit.
Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
You said, maybe the best captain that you had ever
had the privilege to coach. Yeah, just in the sense
that he kind of understood everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
I mean, that's what it was the best part about him.
He understood everybody he knew. As he used to say.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
Oh, here's a chance for Wisconsin off to draw. Tassie
just won Satan made by every long rebound picked up
by the Buckeyes but then taken back by Morrissey who
backhands one on goal. Everly covers that. So Mike Hastings
has made a change here on his forward lines. Morrissey
with Tassy and Montgomery moves up to that second unit. Yeah,
I'm not so sure that twenty one.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
I'm not sure that Batterol was doing enough for that line.
And I'll tell you what, Montgomery has proven a lot
of people.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
Proven to a lot of people, he is the real
He's got five goals this season, all in the last
five games. Badgers whin the face off, Hensler shoots it low,
kicked out by Everley, goes to the corner morris He
tries to poke it back to the point taken by
Ohio State, but they cough it up on the near sidewall.
Tassy turns and faces the net from the left wing,
now to Dexzheimer, back to Tassie. He fires one and
(01:18:18):
that goes into the glove of every leaning left. He'll
snag it and hang on for a face off thirty
seconds into the third one nothing Ohio State. Sorry to
interrupt when you were talking about Rolls there, but he's.
Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
Just one of the finest individuals you'll ever meet in
the hockey world. As far as i'm concerned, never too high,
never too low. And you talk to him about what
do you think we should do with this player? And
he goes, he's Haywire. Just let him do whatever he
wants to do.
Speaker 1 (01:18:46):
Here's talk with Finley and Fitzgerald on the eyes, Sensler
and Shoals. Steve and his wife Julie have three children,
one of which Annie, is a freshman at the University
of Wisconsin. He and Julie dropped her off in August.
Said they spent some time here for a couple of days.
Steve said his wife had never been on the Wisconsin
campus or toured the campus, so they went from here
(01:19:08):
to there and everywhere during a two day span. And
then they took their daughter to her dorm and she
waved goodbye, and they drove back to Columbus and on
the last time. Yeah, he said he hadn't seen her
until yesterday when he and the Buckeyes came in. So
Annie the Rawlicks daughter. She's actually a student manager from
(01:19:29):
Mark Johnson and the Wisconsin women's hockey team. So that's
pretty cool. Yeah, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
I mean, it's uh, you can never get rid of
your college connections, let's put it that way. Now, regardless
of where you're coaching, where you're playing, whatever the case
may be.
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
And Annie wanted to wear her dad's Wisconsin Rawlicks sweater
to the game tonight, and he told her he didn't
think it was a good idea. Didn't want her to
get assaulted and beaten into the ground. Face off to
the right of Daniel Hauser, Oliver talked to take the
draw against Carabella and Tulk won the face off. Badgers
try to bank it out and do it. He finds
(01:20:02):
the stick of Fitzgerald left wing pass Finley, nice catch,
but he's slowed angled off by McBrayer and it's loose.
Now the Buckey's collect here's Koran left wing. Now Eisley
makes a move on Dubinski, who falls down and then
knocks went down two and actually slid into the skates
of Isley, took him out. Kuran picked up the puck
(01:20:23):
and fanted a shot left wing and now knocks with
it and he tucks it towards the Ohio State zone
and the Buckeyes take it from there. Both Badger defense
been wiped out and Ohio State had a chance and
icing waved off of the Buckeyes as Carabella hustles after
it in the Wisconsin zone and then he turned it
over to Horbach, passed behind Finn brink back out at center.
(01:20:46):
Horback and Wisk go at it loose puck collected by Piedla.
Piedla walks across the line, stops and shoots one low
and leaning left down low as Everley, and again he
gloves it and hangs on. Eighteen twenty two to go
on the third. Badger's down one to nothing. They've already
put three shots on goal here early in the third
period against Christopher Everly, who's played well, came in with
(01:21:08):
a nine to thirty save percentage. Yeah, he's been rock solid,
there's no question about that. Doesn't seem to panic in
any situation, even when there was a scramble in front.
Just put his big mid on top of it and
call it a day. Face off to Beverly's right one
by Ohio State. They can't clear though, deck Szheimer holding
(01:21:30):
the zone down to the corner. Zillanoff. Botterol is out
there now with kuchenin. Bryan botterrel with the puck hits
the Brakes turns back right towards the net, putting his
blocker down the goaltender Everly and he covers again one
nothing Ohio State early third period of play at the
Coal Center in Madison. Both these teams very good in
the face off circle. Wisconsin's second best in the country
(01:21:53):
at fifty seven percent. Ohio State up of the top
ten at fifty four percent face offs in favor of
the Badgers nineteen eleven after two periods of play. We'll
see how Zillanoff does here against Max Montes, the Heartland,
Wisconsin native who's been their best face off man, and
the Badgers won that draw and dex Sheimer with a
wrister off the blocker of Everly, then the glass behind
(01:22:14):
the net. Zilanoff has it right corner, walks to the
cage and swept it through the crease. Borel taps it
out to the point man. Dexheimer shoots it low, blocked
away by McGinley, Bell guys can't clear. Kukanin keeps it
alive in the attacking end. Botterrel whips it around, but
too strongly. Fealian had left the far wall. It'll slide
all the way back into the Wisconsin zone, allowing Ohio
(01:22:34):
State to change.
Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
Boy, that's the type of shift you need out of
that line. Win those battles in the corner. Chip a
couple towards the net, get to the Ohio State back
on their heels.
Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
Morrisey and on the Ford check. Montgomery comes out now
with Tassi, puck squirts free and the slot only Buckeyes
there and it's lifted over the leaping shoals and out
through center and Blake Montgomery goes to get it. Montgomery
the Big Tens number one start two weeks ago, and
that three goal performance against a Soda and he was
minus two and Friday's game against Michigan before a beautiful
(01:23:07):
move in the second period gave Wisconsin a three to
nothing lead in what turned out to be a six
to one victory over the Wolverines and a series split
at Yost Arena. Badgers dump it in every out of
his net, will leave it for the defenseman, thought better
of it and paddle it to the near side of Montgomery.
We'll chase it down and then he gets knocked down
and look out four on one to our right able
(01:23:29):
with it to the middle. Carabella off his skate, then
tapped back towards the front of the net, picked up
and scoring was Iisley. All the Badgers gave up a
four on one, but it was the fifth skater the trailer
that finished off the play and the Buckeyes lead to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
Yeah, everybody gets caught down deep. Montgomery turns it over
at the blue line nose. He made a mistake, tries
to hustle back skates by the puck carrier, to be
honest with you, And it's not the first shot and
not the second attempt, it's the third attempt ends up
going into the net.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
Adam Eisley, the Minnesota State transferred, gets his third goal
of the season at three twenty three and the Buckeyes
with a two to nothing lead on Wisconsin. Mike Hastings
was talking with referee calling Crown Forced about something, but
we shall play on.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
Weird. I'm assuming that they were talking to about the
fact that the Ohio State player may have been in
the crease on the second shot.
Speaker 1 (01:24:32):
Yeah, Buck lucid the Wisconsin line and then batted back
through center. Fitzgerald got knocked down trying to draw a
penalty nothing goal. That was probably the most obvious one
of the night. Yeah, that was interference. Now, bad pass
out to center taken by Wisconsin's Dexheimer. Fitzgerald has to
touch up and does. Dex Heimer played a deep at
(01:24:54):
the Badgers all the way back at neutral eye, so
not much for checking pressure and now Eisley lifted it
off the gl glass and all the way down. Should
be icing on Ohio State. It is sixteen oh two
to go here in the third, Badger's now trailed two
to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Badgers need something good to happen. They've two or three times,
but they've gambled and won. But the last two times
that they've gambled, they've lost. And that's not a winning
percentage by any stretch of the imagination. They need something
good to happen. Whether it's a big hit or big
save by Hauser, whatever it may be, it's got to
be something to change the momentum.
Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
Yep, face off to ever Lee's left and daring trying
to win the draw. Instead it goes to the Buckeyes.
No headman to center off the stick of Koran to
the stick of Hensler, playing keep away from Koran, and
he'll bank it off the wall and back through neutral ice.
(01:25:52):
So again Isley with a goal from Dunlap and Carabella
at three point twenty three of period number three. The
centering pass intercepted by Wisconsin Deering can't clear, but he
gets help from Brink, who just got tripped down. But
nothing called, and now it will be called. That's a
late one. The referee tell Franco calls Ohio State for tripping.
(01:26:17):
So Wisconsin, in desperate need of a goal, gets a
power play. Four thirty into the third.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
James Hang will make his way to the penalty box,
the former Madison Capitol and Irvine, California native. Yeah, who
has had a very good college.
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Career, to say the least, tripping on Hong at four
thirty Wisconsin zero for three so far on the Cuness
power play, See if you can get something going here.
It's tassy with Fitzgerald Finley Morrissey will take the draw.
Dex Sheimer at the blue line. Morrissey will lean in
against Ryan Gordon. Gordon's out there right now on this
(01:26:56):
PK with burnside. Abel and McBrayer are the defenseman. Badgers
win the draw and we'll get things set up. Dex
Shimer left wing. Morrissey back to Dexheimer, catches him, looks
now the right wing in Finley back to deck. Shimer
fake the shot, gets a man out of position, is
shot then blocked Finley left side. Morrissey back to Finley
one timer. He shut it too high off the glass
(01:27:17):
morris He tries to settle it down and does, and
at thirty eight to go on the power play Morrisey
shot blocked off the stick of Finley twice. Burnside roughs
him up, gets positioned, gets some help and they lift
it into the Ohio State bench and that stops play.
Steve Rolick saying the face off should be at neutral ice,
(01:27:37):
that the Buckeyes had it. Yeah, go off of Badger's
stick at neutral ice and into the bench. That's the case.
They'll drop it at center.
Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
Wasn't sure whether dex Sheimer actually touched it with his
glove and pushed it in or he was the last
person to touch it, but goes into the hostate bench.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
Same power play unit out for Wastin now Montes and
Weiss to Wisconsin Natives on the penalty killed for Ohio States.
Finley will take it at center left wing, can't get
by a straka and then picked up by dex Sheimer
and his pass intercepted by Montes. He's able to clear
and bank it all the way down and wise for
the buck eyes all the way into the Wisconsin zone
(01:28:20):
and then Mauser turns it over and has to lean
back left and kick out that left pad to stop Montes.
Oh Houser was with the puck to the right of
the net and just softly played it to the far
wing and then had to scramble back and made a
stop dex Sheimer.
Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
Everybody in the building knew that dex Sheimer was going
to try and go to Finley, including the two Ohio
State players who ended up intercepting that and creating the turnover.
Speaker 1 (01:28:46):
And Henzler's pass and the skates of his teammate and
Buckeyes cleared again. It was a little disjointed tonight. Wisconsin's
ben only nineteen shots on goal. The top rank power
play unit in the country hasn't been able to generate much.
Tulk with it right wing it seling off. He'll drop
(01:29:06):
it off now to Hensler outside the right circle, backside
left to Tulk. He caught it on his backhand. Nowt
to zeal it off eighteen seconds left on the Cuneis
power play Badger's down two third period. Hensler's shot off
of stick and wide, and then Ohio State's able turned
and tried to whack it out, went off of sticking,
out of play a face off in the OSU zone.
(01:29:27):
Eleven seconds to go on the Badger's power play down
a pair.
Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
Well, when it's not working for the cross ice passes
and when it's not working for the little.
Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
Chip passes in front.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
Yeah, Ben Dexzheimer, whoever the point man is, bury your
head and let her go. Get all those people in front.
When it comes to nobody knows where that buck's going
except you, so bury it.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Fourth lineout for the Badgers deering with brink and they
have horback out there Nowalen and dex Szheimer. Now Montes
kicked out of the face off circle. The captain for
Ohio State, Davis Burnside, will take it from senior from
Scottsdale Badgers. Within the face off, dex Sheimer with a
little room, finds Falan, shoots one low everly save it's
(01:30:15):
up into the air, bounces in the slot orback, can't
get a stick on it, and then has chipped away
from Falan out to center and the penalty has expired.
So Ohio State four for four on the PK and
leads Wisconsin to nothing here third period in Madison, special
teams have played the role. Yep. Now the badger's steal.
Deering slot Horbox shot into the chest of Everleau corrouse
(01:30:37):
it with his glove and blocker to his chest, stopping play.
A little pushing and shoving afterwards, but nothing major to
worry about.
Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Yeah, it's interesting that Ben dex Sheimer goes in and
two very large defensemen from Ohio State are going after
him in the corner. Dring standing out in front with
the much smaller Ohio State and they just kind of talk,
no big deal.
Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
Base off the left of Everly. He stopped all twenty
one badgers shot so far here Tonight, Deering, Horback and
Brink remain with dex Sheimer and Falen. Deering trying to
win the draw. Brink with it placed it to the corner.
Deering reaches for it and has it trying to fend
off Ryan Gordon Warbock there for support. Deering continues to
(01:31:28):
possess the puck. The large body freshman finds Horbock behind
the net. Now to the corner. Jack battling there goes down.
Deering tied up by Gordon. Now Wisconsin's brink with it
hits the Brakes goal line right looking for some assistance.
Finn Brink snaps off past cross ice. Horbock thought about shooting,
elected not to. Now twirls on his backhand left wing.
(01:31:50):
Pushed to the corner. Now Deering throws his body in there.
Buck squirts free and brought in Sable. Now has it
for Ohio State. From what we are understand, no relation
to former Badgers Scott Sabo or Steve Sabo, Steve and
Madison native Scott from Thief River Falls brought and save
oh A redirect in front, Yes by Crocker, stop by
(01:32:13):
Houser who was on his knees, saw it coming and
just smothered the puck. Most dangerous player of the first
of the first twelve minutes. Yeah, but the Badger's goaltender
up to the task. It's two nothing Ohio State, twelve
nineteen to go in period number three. Back in a minute.
This is Badger hockey from Airfield.
Speaker 12 (01:32:30):
It's the biggest savings event of the year. Minards eleven
percent rebate ends Thanksgiving Day, save big money. Everything you

owners contractorsd I wires, the kids and even grandmother Furry.
Lenard's eleven percent rebate ends Thanksgiving Day, Insane Money, eleven

in store purchases. Steven Arts dot com for details.
Speaker 7 (01:33:00):

your friend skips your favorite song on the playlist and
the friendship or choose chill because that song lives rent
free in your head anyway, and you're planned ahead by
bringing Cores Light to the party and the sound of

(01:33:22):
ears already.
Speaker 9 (01:33:23):
Core's Light. Choose Chill, Celebrate Responsibly. Twenty twenty five. Cores
Brewing Company, Golden Colorado.
Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
The Wisconsin Apartment of Transportation reminds you to always drive
sober zero in Wisconsin. Together we can save lives. Get
the Drive Sober app Today. You're sitting at the Rail
Transport broadcast booths here at the Cole Center and Madison, Wisconsin,
down two nothing, twelve nineteen to go in Game one
of this two game series against Ohio States, Badger's twenty
(01:33:58):
one shots on gold limited the Buckeyes to fifteen. Their
first goal a broken play on a power play. Ryan
Gordon scored. Their second goal was the result of a
four on one after a turnover, and really Howser had no
chance on the shot by Adam Eisley. The puck out
at center ice, Dubinski finds Morrissey across the line, defended
(01:34:22):
nicely by William Smith. Knox able to hold his own
for the Badgers. Pass intended for Montgomery didn't get through.
Morrissey reaches for it, it bounces in the slot. Knox
drops it off. Morrisey sets and fires and shot it wide.
Now Tassy in the corner behind the net. Montgomery, he
protects the puck against Smith, walks it in front of
the net, trying to backhanded. Everley kept it out. Montgomery
(01:34:44):
again reaches and pulls it free. Blake Montgomery, He's got
it right wing out to the point. Dubinsky is low.
Shot missed the nets off the near side wall. Tassy
gives chase back below the goal line. The Buckeyes reverse
and it's scooped out to center by ingles Ssconton down
to nothing, applying a little bit more pressure here. Hearing
(01:35:07):
the midway point of the third period, Fitzgerald, Tolkien, Finley
back out for Wisconsin, tol able to slow the puck
carrier Logan Hensler has it for the Badgers, and he
over skates behind his own net, slides free to Burnside,
tracks it down left wing, and then he's double teamed
and lost the puck. And then Shuls got klopperd from
behind puck taking away Burnside, carries it and leaves it
(01:35:30):
off for Thompson. Shot it too high, able now to
the left point mcbraer, but it comes across the line.
The Buckeyes have to touch up ten fifty to go in
the third. It's too nothing, Ohio state. That shift was
not for the faintof heart. No. A lot of big
boys going down zilling off Fitzgerald, trailor Hensler shoots one,
blocked by Abel who was already down on the ice,
(01:35:51):
an unintended block shot, and then Hensler with a pretty
good hit on mcbraer as he dumped it into the
Wisconsin zone. Badger's half possession dex high leaves it off
to Falin. He'll skate it up to center ice to
the red line, lost control of it, but able to
poke it into the corner of the offensive zone to
our left, ziling off on the fore check. So as
(01:36:11):
Kuconin spins away from Montes, McGinley slows him down. Finley
trying to get to the puck behind the net. Long
ship for Quinn, Finley and now Falan pushed a man
out of the way. Finley fights for it behind the net,
slides to the near side, and deck Sheimer dropped it
back to the point. Zill and off thought about shooting.
No place to shoot now it's Falan scoops it bag
deep to Finley. Finley protecting behind the net. Under ten
(01:36:34):
minus to go on the third Badgers down two. Kuconon
working with a puck. A lot of ozone time here Ian,
but nothing on the net. Yeah, not any shots on it.
Here's Finley now stick candling through traffic, able to keep
it alive. Ran into his teammate that bust free the defenseman.
It's Ethan Strackey hands off now of Montese back cand shot.
Did he get it underneath them?
Speaker 3 (01:36:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:36:55):
Houser kept it out with the left pad and the
goal comes off its pegs. Oh that time, a bit
too much stick candling out by the blue line. Another
turnover by Wisconsin and a two to on zero and
Howser somehow kept it a two gold depicite.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
And you take a look at the two people who
turned it over. One was Logan Hensler and the other
one was Quinn Finley, and both of them been out
there for such an expended period of time. Yep, that's
the last two guys that you want to have back
checking on that play line's been getting the goal back
on its pegs and a face off to the left
of the Badgers netminder Daniel Hauser, who stopped thirteen of
(01:37:33):
fifteen shots here tonight after stopping twenty nine of thirty
in last Saturday's win at Michigan. Howser like the Badgers
undefeated at home so far this season. This is the
seventh home game of the year, the eleventh game overall.
Speaker 1 (01:37:53):
I love that creased creatures trying to get the Badgers
going a little bit. Here was cooking it up by
the benches, ran into a buckeye and the buck Wisconsin
needed to change. Here's dunlap with speed into the Badger's end,
slowed by bottrel knocks. Now one hands it over to
deering Badgers break out cooking and long cross ice pass
botterrel off his stick, can't get it deep coughed it up.
(01:38:15):
It's back of the red line. Piedlo rubs out Dunlap,
and then Knox coughed it up. Here's Gordon now for
the Buckeyes. Protects the puck along the wall and a
turnaround shot went why sable now left point pitched it
to the wing and Dunlap shot one and leaning left
on his knees was Howser. He gloves it and hangs
on eight forty five to go on the third Badger's trail,
(01:38:37):
Ohio State two to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
As I watched this as it goes side to side
and everything, I kept looking at this stick that had
fallen down beside the net. And yet I saw five
Ohio State players with sticks, and I saw five Badgers
with sticks, And I'm going, did somebody just throw.
Speaker 1 (01:38:52):
That thing out there? What happened? I was confusing for
an old man like me. Based off the Hawser's right,
Morrisey to take the draw against Gordon, and it's loosing
the slot and Blake Montgomery picks it up. Badger's potential
three on one becomes a three on one. Here's Montgomery
(01:39:13):
slot shot by Sholsey missed the nets. Montgomery retrieves but
tumbled over the stick of the defenseman Ingles. Ingles now
has it, sweeps it along the kick plate, but not
out Morris. He kept it alive. Tassy turned around, shot
Hey scores.
Speaker 32 (01:39:25):
Simon Tassi from the left wing, turned and fired and
beat every blockers side.
Speaker 1 (01:39:31):
The Badger's on the board late third period.
Speaker 2 (01:39:36):
Well, I will honestly say, if you're a hockey purist,
at all counts when they go in, blah blah blah
blah blah. But the play that Montgomery made previous to
that was so picture perfect. And then Tassy just pulls
it out of the corner and fires it at the
net and he scores. So there is no rhyme nor
reason to where the people score goals or how we
score goals.
Speaker 1 (01:39:55):
But for Simon Tassy, good job. Simon Tassi had scored
it every series this season until last week. Ed at Michigan.
Net's his fifth goal of the year. It comes at
eleven thirty four and so Wisconsin on the board with
some life, trailing Ohio State two to one. Again. The
Badgers' best period this season has been the third they've
(01:40:16):
outscored opponents now eighteen to five. In this period, I
had a turnover by Wisconsin Rizzo backhand from the corner
on net and Howser at a stop and then Al
Riley Thompson and then Dexzheimer need to be separated.
Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
Interesting he went at Dexheimer. Riley Thompson's a big man,
there's no question about that. But you get into a
situation where he goes at Dexzheimer and Jack Palen steps
in and the next thing you know, they all separate.
Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
It's like, no, we're not gonna screw with Jack zichher
zach Fal And that's at ye Falin six y three
one nighty two. Thompson is six four two twenty two.
He's a big young lad who young man, that's a junior.
Thompson considered turning prob back to play another year with
the Buckeyes. Tassi's goal of eleven thirty four I mentioned
(01:41:05):
his fifth of the year. Give Gavin Morrissey the lone assist.
Morrissey extends its points scoring streak to eight games and
takes over the team lead with twelve points in eleven games. Badgers.
After the pop, dex Sheimer got it off to Zilanoff
force behind the net still controls. However, Poorbock down moving
his feet in the left corner away from McGinley. Slowed
now with a body check. Zilanoff tries to pull it free.
(01:41:27):
It's along the near side wall. Thompson tied up three
Badgers to two Buckeyes on the near side boards. Hundred
eight minutes to go in the period. Badger's down two
to one. Dex Shimer steals passing the slot turnaround shot
Horbock that's blocked, pricocheted near the line. The Buckeyes clear
to center and then burn inside will send it all
the way down.
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
Badger's got to be careful if they got to win
those scrambles at the near blue line or at the
opposition's blue line. Don't want any more turnovers like we
had a couple shifts to go.
Speaker 1 (01:41:55):
Jack Falen's out there with Zach Schulz Bottrel piedla dering
Falen right wing pass deering, got a piece of it.
He gives Chas in the corner down the wall near
side Shoals pinching in keeps the offensive zone alive, but
the Buckeyes take the puck away. McBrayer head Man's behind everybody.
(01:42:18):
Montes breakaway on Halser. He stopped it and then it
goes through his body and in Max Montes a breakaway.
Three to one Ohio States.
Speaker 2 (01:42:29):
Yeah, both the defensemen had pinched. They both come back
to their spots, but Montes had snuck behind them and
a pinpoint passed by the Ohio State defenseman all the
way up the ice into two different zones and Montes
very lucky to get that goal.
Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
Max Montes, the Heartland wisconsinnated playing in his fifteenth game
against the Badgers, has scored eight times against his home
state team. And there's a large section of Max Montes
family and friends across the way behind the Ohio State
bench with signs number sixteen jerseys cheering loudly. As Ohio
(01:43:09):
State is taking the lead and then ought to draw.
The Badgers bounce it towards Everley and it almost bounced
over his right pad, but everly able to stop it
and cover it and get a whistle. Six point fifty
five left in the third, just when Wisconsin got some life,
the Buckeyes took it right out of them. We'll see though,
still some time left. It's three to one Ohio State.
(01:43:30):
This is Badger hockey from their field.

Montes from McBrayer and Abel at twelve fifty nine, The Heartland,
Wisconsin Native gives Ohio state a three to one lead
based off of the Buckeye Zone one biosu. They chip
it over the point man and all the way down
should be icing and it is six forty eight to go.
In the third, Wisconsin trails now three to one, so
(01:45:01):
the Badger's down one nothing after two when Adam Eisley
scored at three twenty three to make it two nothing.
Simon Tassy finally got Wisconsin on the board eleven thirty
four from Gavin Morrissey, but a minute twenty five later
Montes with a breakaway his fourth goal of the year
three to one. OSU face off to the right of
(01:45:22):
Everley again, Buckeyes win the draw, can't clear. Dex Sheimer
holds he'll throw it to the far corner. Tassy after
it turnaround shot on the right wing this time tried
to get every off guard, but he missed the nets
and now dex Sheimer backhand pass found a Buckeye, not
a Badger, and Ohio State gains the line and dumps
it in six twenty five to go. Hong tied up
(01:45:46):
and dex Sheimer chips it off to Tassy and now
he's pressured and he needs to get rid of it,
and Hong out muscles dex Sheimer and takes it away.
Pass out to the point. William Smith sets and fires
missed the net. It bounces to the right of Chip
towards him. It's right below him, it's underneath his pads,
and they bake it in. Carabella stores The referee on
(01:46:08):
the right goal line calls it. It's a good goal.
Jake Carabella just pop that thing in. It was right
underneath Daniel Hauser's skates. He couldn't locate the puck right
along the goal line. Caribella just batted it in. It's
four to one if this goal stands.
Speaker 2 (01:46:26):
There was a lot of turmoil in front, to say
the least, But as from our perspective.
Speaker 1 (01:46:36):
They're gonna call Isisley for roughing, but the goal's gonna
count Ohio State with a four to one lead.
Speaker 2 (01:46:41):
We could see from our perspective that the puck just
sat underneath of Hawser and it was open, so it
is free to have contact with it.
Speaker 1 (01:46:51):
That was chipped at Hauser from his right and he
couldn't locate it, went off his side and then dropped
in front of him. It was right between his pads.
He didn't see it right below him, and Caribella came
and smacked it in. Jake Carabella for the fresh season
YEP freshman from Guelph, Ontario, his first collegiate goal. Ouch
(01:47:16):
and then Iley that's what hurt. Two minute minor at
thirteen fifty five for roughing. So the Badgers get a
Cuna's power play, but they now need three to tie
won every two minutes. There you go, Kenley will whip
it in, run left corner to right, Tassy down the wall,
loose puck picked up by Morrissey off his stick, chipped
(01:47:38):
away and all the way down.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
Cavin's having a tough time holding the puck in tonight,
seems so he's a little bit uh.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
One step behind. I'm not sure how to put it.
Here's Morrissey now into the offensive zone and he lost
an edge and fell down. Fitzgerald tries to slow Montes
and he interfered with him. Nothing called No. Montes had
the puck on his stick and he got whipped around
by Fitzgerald, but referee elected not to make a call,
(01:48:07):
so the Badger's powerplay continues. Coach coach Rolick not too
pleased with that. No Ohio State idol last week after
getting swept at home by Penn State comes here to
Madison leads for to one with five minutes to go
in the third Montgomery left wing wall, he protects the
puck Blake Montgomery cross ice right wing. Now here's Hensler
(01:48:29):
a shot that bounces off of body or two behind
the nets, and then Ohio State tries to clear held
in by Tulk Gould hustle there and reach right wing.
Now it's selling off, pressured and the puck crawls off
his stick out to center. Fans getting restless here at
the coal center. They have been all night. Oh Hensler,
beautiful move into the offensive. Somat can't shot stop by
Averley and one of the Buckeyes went into the cage.
(01:48:51):
Ryan Gordon knocked it off its moorings because he was
assisted in by a badger. So they'll drop the puck
outside the OSU zone. Oh, that's a polite way of
putting it.
Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
Assisted assisted in You got jammed from behind by Zelenoff
is basically what happened. Yeah, it's one of those deals
where you get into a situation where you're frustrated and
it's going to take a great play like the one
that Logan Hanzler just made in order to get the
Badgers at least a little bit of life here with
four point fifty five.
Speaker 1 (01:49:20):
Left based off at neutral ice, Wisconsin trailing four to one.
Morrissey against Gordon Morrisey will be asked to leave the
face off area. Fitzgerald will step in. Power play continues
for another thirty seconds, and Fitzgerald won the draw to
deck Szheimer out near the red line, and the Buckeyes
(01:49:42):
stacked the blue line. And now a little bit of
pressure and Dexi's got nowhere to go, and now warsee
with it across the line. He'll set it in, got
bumped by ingles, allowing McGinley to get to it, and
they whip it around off the body of Fitzgerald and
now through center. Even though it took time to get in.
They everything right. Twendy got in there. Yeah, my Hastings
(01:50:03):
has been pacing a little bit here tonight. Four five
to go in the third give and go Morisse to
at Finley pass a bit too far ahead of him,
and now Houser out of the box or out of
the net for an extra attacker, just as Ohio Steak
got back to full strength. So Wisconsin's power play zero
for five tonight, Badger's add an extra attacker, needing three
(01:50:24):
to tie. Tassy on the drive right wing, took it
to the net, Everley kept it out. It's loose. Tulk
now has it, Tulk looking for an open man. It's
Hensler right back to Tulk out high right. Hensler catches,
looks and shoots one lo Where is it? It's underneath
every top of his crease. It was underneath his pad.
He looked behind him, but he made the stop and
(01:50:46):
hung on and got the whistle.
Speaker 2 (01:50:48):
Yeah, there's not much else you could do with three
thirty four left ear pull your goaltender. You're out shooting
the opposition, but you're not outscoring them. What's the difference
if you lose five to one or four three? You
know it's a good situation. Badgers have the offensive drone
zaw draw excuse me, offensive zone draw, and they'll rest
(01:51:12):
their probably five premier scorers and select who's going to
be the sixth person out there to be the playmaker
or the tip in guy or whatever. I would imagine
that Simon Tasty is going to park his dairy are
right in front of everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
Badger's down for to one. They take their time out.
Let's pause ten seconds for station identification, ten seconds for
a legal ID you're listening to Wisconsin Badger.
Speaker 21 (01:51:36):
Hockey icing the puck for years. This is your home
for Badger hodeing news talk through.
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
Team international rankings. Alone in first place in the Big Ten,
but it's been an off night for the Cardinal and White.
Here ian three point thirty four to go, it's four
to one Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (01:51:55):
You just don't when things aren't clicking, it's hard to
get them back into sync. And I'm not sure if
it was the line changes, but I'm more certain that
it's the way that Ohio State plays.
Speaker 1 (01:52:07):
And they've been good.
Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
They've been good defensively like you wouldn't believe, and the
Buckeyes has had.
Speaker 1 (01:52:15):
The better of it against Wisconsin over the years since
the Big Ten was formed. Really back in the twenty
thirteen to fourteen season, it's been all Ohio State. Face
off to the right of Christopher Evering and the Buckeyes
clear it, they win it. Burnside sends it all the
way down into an empty net. Davis Burnside the captain
with an empty net goal after a faceoff loss in
(01:52:37):
the offensive zone by the Badgers. Burnside his third goal
of the year, and Ohio State leads five to one.
That's pretty much the icing on the cake sixteen thirty
three at the time of the goal, and we'll put
the goaltender back in and play this last three twenty
seven by just trying to stalemate what's going to happen
(01:53:00):
here for the last three and a half minutes. By
the way, Carabello's goal at thirteen fifty five give Eisley
and Smith assists burnside right now unassisted empty netter at
sixteen thirty three. Logan Henzler at center ice, Botterrel will
(01:53:22):
try to get it into the offensive zone. He finds
Zelenoff passed back to Botterlerel tied up and then Zilanoff
put it through the slot and taken by Dunlap three
minutes to go. Here in the third, Badger's down five
to one. I don't know what it is about the Buckeyes.
Here's Hensler now low shot, skates saved by every remains
on his knees. A rebound attemp by Zillenoff may have
(01:53:44):
gone off of Beverly's left pad. Now to the near wall.
Dubinsky pinches in kuching in getting rough with Gordon Bucks
still loose along the kick plate with two and a
half minutes to go. It is a two game series.
The finale tomorrow night, six o'clock Central, five point thirty.
Pre game on the Badger Sports Network and the Varsity
(01:54:06):
Network app ZeLing off behind the net, kokon then wrap
around backhands stop by every selling off still working hard.
The freshman trying to set up cooking in from behind
the cage. Again no luck. Seeling off long shift has
the puck now Henzler two ten to go, drop pass
horback cuts to his right down to the goal line,
(01:54:27):
goes Horbock back around behind the net, wrap around, popped
into the air, gloved by every and he hangs on
with two oho three to go.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
In the third he has Zelnoff standing right in front.
Anything that would have popped up or down onto the ice,
zelling Off would have had the inside track on it.
But please take a look at how many bat Ohio
State Buckeyes are down there in front of the net one, two, three, four, five,
and three Badgers And that's where their defensive coverage works.
Speaker 1 (01:54:54):
And it's been successful here tonight, face off to the
left of every won by Wisconsin fail indeed to Dada
Knox shot pass off the stick of deering on goal,
everly stopped it and covered. Yeah, thirty shots on goal
tonight for Wisconsin, but they've lit the lamp only once.
Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Yeah, when you've got five on nineteen shots, your shooting
percentages significantly higher and more successful if you're Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (01:55:24):
Yep, face off in the offensive zone, Badgers lost it
to Ohio State. Howser back in goal for Wisconsin and
he moves it around to the far side and Horbach
goes to get it chipped out to center. A collision
between Deering and Carabella looked like incidental contact, although Carabella
(01:55:47):
is not too happy as he tries to hit anything
in a white sweater. Now here's Eisley, former Minnesota State maverick.
He shoots one without looking on goal, kicked out by Hawser,
taken by Deering in won twenty five to play. Deering
right wing wanted to carry it to the net, but
instead carried into the end boards by Kuran and the
Buckeyes clear it out through center.
Speaker 2 (01:56:08):
It was interesting there have been four or five face
offs where Kuran is the right winger and Tassi was
the left on the left side, both of them from Montreal.
They had never stopped talking either one of them.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
Montgomery, stick handling through two Buckeyes, couldn't get past the third.
Loose puck picked up by Piedla, his shot blocked. Minute
to play oh Hensler little head and shoulder fake passed
wise to the slot, shot off the chest of the goaltender.
Everly loose, Tulk creaching for it, can't get it taken
away by Ohio State lead feed bounces past Hensler. He's
(01:56:40):
able to recover though, with Montes in the vicinity, and
now it's Tulk protecting to Piedla across the line. He'll
dump it in and give Chase and now the Ohio
State Buckeyes have control. Max Montes, We'll scoop it to
the corner and let Hong go to get it with
twenty five five seconds to go. Well, the Badgers felt
(01:57:03):
good about themselves after leaving Ann Arbor last Saturday with
a solid six to one road victory over the second
ranked Wolverines, bringing in some momentum here to the Coal Center,
where they hadn't lost a game in six tries so
far this season. But the Buckey's got a power play
goal in the first and then broke it open with
four goals in the third. The Ohio State Buckeyes knock
(01:57:26):
off Wisconsin tonight and knock the Badgers out of first
place in a big ten five to one. The final
score ouch Badger Hockey brought to you by Rail Transports

Back here at the Cole Center of the Badgers fall
to Ohio State five to one. The Buckeyes improved at
five and four, one and two in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin falls to seven to two and two overall three
and two in the league. Play. Let's name our three
stars of the game, brought to you by everlight soler
Ian have you gave. We'll start at the bottom. Yeah,
all right, Three Stars of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:01:29):
Number three star I'll give to Simon Tassi, even though
he was a minus two tonight, he was just a
pain in the dairy air of everybody from Ohio State.
When he got down in front of the net, he
did get that beautiful like kind of rebound goal where
there was a good play made made by a Badger
in the corner and then he just comes out and
(02:01:50):
flings it at the net, which caught everybody by surprise,
including the goaltender from Ohio State that made it. At
that point in time, two to one game, and everybody thought, Okay,
the Badgers are going to start the roll here. Number
two Star of the game I gave to Logan Hensler,
despite the fact that he didn't have any points on
(02:02:12):
the board. By any stretch of the imagination, it was
his best offensive game. He was a zero. He didn't
have any pluses or minuses, but he had five shots
on net and you saw that little dipsy doodle move
that he made here right at the end of the
third period. He pretty much undressed that Ohio State player.
Probably one of the strongest games that I've seen Logan
Hensler play, and the number one star of the game,
(02:02:35):
unfortunately goes to an Ohio State buck guy with Max Montees,
the Wisconsin native with a goal and one assist. A
big showing for the young man.
Speaker 1 (02:02:44):
Yep, Montez again eight career goals in fifteen games against
the Wisconsin Badgers. You may remember last year he had
the game tying and game winning goals at the Cole
Center on a Friday night and then the game winner
in overtime on Saturday. A big crowd, friends and family

Here tonight. Our energizing performance to the game brought to
you by a lion energy powering beyond for you, Ian Well.
Speaker 2 (02:06:35):
Amazingly, the young man from Wisconsin who plays for Ohio
State is the energizing performance of the game, and just
in the fact that the timing of his goal is
so important.
Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
It's uh.
Speaker 2 (02:06:49):
You get into a situation where the Badgers had made
it two to one in favor of Ohio State on
Tassie's goal at eleven thirty four, and just a minute
and thirty seconds later, Max Montes comes down and gets
his fourth goal of the year, and it was almost
like it broke their back. I mean, all of a sudden,
(02:07:11):
the Badgers were pressing, pressing, and pressing made that one
little mistake and Montes made them pay for it. So
his performance energized. And when it was three to one,
all of a sudden, it's a bigger mountain to climb,
and for Wisconsin, not a chance they could come back
when it was three to one, especially the way Max
(02:07:32):
Montes and his line were playing.
Speaker 1 (02:07:34):
Yep, So Max Montes our number one star and the
energizing performance of the game Badger's fall to the Buckeyes
five to one. We planned to hear from head coach
Mike Hastings a couple of highlights to and scores from

You always look at other teams and what their records
are against mutual components or opponents and all the rest
of that kind of stuff, and why they have our number.
Speaker 1 (02:10:28):
I have no idea. Yeah, here's a team picked to
finish sixth in the Big Ten. They were picked to
finish last last year and still won twenty four games
and finished third. So never overlook Ohio State, which won
game one of a six game road trip that continues
at Michigan and Arizona State again. These teams will meet
again tomorrow night, waiting to hear from head coach Mike Hastings.
(02:10:49):
Let's look at some other results from around the country.
First off, the Wisconsin women's soccer team beat Western Michigan
today three to two at the mcclimbing Complex first round
of the the NCAA Tournament. So Paula Wilkins Club advances.
The Wisconsin volleyball team now twelve and three in the
Big Ten, nineteen and four overall after a three set
(02:11:10):
sweep at Michigan State. Kelly Sheffield squad plays at Illinois
tomorrow night. The Wisconsin women's cross country team finished second
the Badger Men third of the Great Lakes Regional today,
so both teams are headed to the NCAA Championships in Columbia, Missouri,
on November twenty first. The Wisconsin women's hockey team knocked
(02:11:31):
off Saint Cloud State today in Saint Cloud five to one.
Caroline Harvey two goals and three points. Kirsten Simms had
a goal in three points. Avan McNaughton made eighteen saves.
So the Wisconsin women now twelve and one and what
is it? Eight and one atop the w COCHA. They'll
play the Huskies again tomorrow at two pm Central time.
(02:11:55):
Let's get to Division one college hockey non conference play.
In overtime, Bentley beat Anchorage two to one, Union over
Lolls seven to one. New Hampshire doubled up RPI six
to three. The ECAC was Colgate four, Yale three, Dartmouth sixth,
Saint Lawrence one, Cornell beat Brown four to one. Harvard
edged Clarkson two to one. Hockey East tonight, Let's see
(02:12:20):
how about eighth rank Maine shut out Vermont seven to
Zhing Providence beat Merrimack four to two, Boston College of
seven to three win over Massachusetts, and in a matchup
of top fifteen teams, Connecticut over Northeastern four to two.
You got the CCHA scores there, Ian.
Speaker 2 (02:12:37):
There's someplace in here. I'm bowling Green and Ferris played
without goaltenders. Final score Bowling Green nine, Farris State five.
Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
Wow. Minnesota State beat Lake Superior two to one. However,
it was a final in overtime, So again Luke Strand
and staff finding a way to win. Bavinci State Michigan
Tech tied two to two final on an overtime Bermidgi
State wins the shootout. Okay NHC tonight, so Western Michigan
(02:13:06):
beat Miami five to two. North Dakota leads Arizona State
five to two in the third, third ranked Minnesota luth
leads Omaha five to two in the third, and fourth
ranked Denver and Colorado College. I had scoreless in the
second period. Do you see any update on that one?
Speaker 33 (02:13:22):
There?
Speaker 1 (02:13:23):
Zip zip ten fifty six mark of the second period
gotcham all right. Also a non conference game tonight at
Merriuchi Arena for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and they trail
Long Island by the score of four to one. So
the Sharks on their way to beating the Golden Gophers
in Minnesota tonight, which would be saying something. You know,
(02:13:46):
Long Island though you can't blink an eye at them.
You know they're four and five this year. They just
came off a sweep of Robert Morris. And we've seen
that Minnesota's had some issues, especially put in the puck
away this season.
Speaker 2 (02:13:59):
Well that was quite obvious when we played here. I
don't think that they're geared to be a great defensive team,
but when you're not getting scoring, it makes it a
double edged sword that you're not winning on either side.
It's a tough pill to swallow. And I'm sure Bob
Motskaw is feeling heat.
Speaker 1 (02:14:19):
Oh, I'm sure. Also Big ten Games tonight, Top rank
Michigan State beat Notre Dame four to one. Freshman Porter
Marton had two goals, Trey Augustine twenty four saves, so
the Spartans improved their record to eight and one overall,
and they now have eight points in the Big Ten.
Second ranked Michigan bounced back from its home loss to
(02:14:41):
Wisconsin last Saturday and blew out Penn State seven to
one in State College. Adam Valentini, Nick Molnauer TJ. Hughes
each had a goal and an assist. Jack ivan Kovic
had twenty six saves. Michigan's record now eleven and two overall,
and with the three points at Penn State, the Wolverines
(02:15:02):
now in first place in the Big Ten with eleven points.
Penn State drops to nine and four and seven points
in Big Ten play. The way Minnesota's going, it looks
like the Gophers will fall to four eight and seven
Notre Dame overall three seven and one, zero to five
in conference play. We go downstairs and join now by
(02:15:24):
Badger's head coach Mike Hastings. Mike, thanks for coming out
here tonight. I know that's not the way you wanted
things to go here tonight. Where did it start?
Speaker 38 (02:15:32):
Well, you know what, I thought, we were ineffective on
the power play when we had a couple of opportunities
to drive momentum. And you know what, guys, I thought
for the first ten minutes. I thought we were playing
a pretty good start. They score one and the helium
went right out of our bench, you know, And part
of this is we've got to be able to drive
our own energy from there. People come to the building
(02:15:55):
to be entertained, and you know what, that just wasn't
our best effort.
Speaker 1 (02:16:00):
There were some chances though, you know, he had a
short handed bid by Quinn Finley right before they score
their power play goal. He hits the crossbar. There were
other chances there tonight, just not enough of them, right.
Speaker 38 (02:16:09):
Yeah, there were and you know what, chances aren't goals,
and again we've got to eat what we put on
our plate. And they were harder in certain areas, and
you know, they score a power play goal, you know
we don't. We get a break late to get us
the two to one and finally give the guys something
to get out of the seats four, and you know,
(02:16:31):
in the immediate next shift that comes back into our hands.
So the ones that are painful a the ones that
you learn from. And so this was painful, but we've
got to turn the page in a hurry because they're
going to be hungry tomorrow and we've got to show
what we've got in between our in between our heart
here a little bit this this weekend. It's very important
that we go right back to work tomorrow, all.
Speaker 1 (02:16:51):
Right, Michael, let you go. Thanks for coming out today.
Thanks Fellows. Sure that's a Badger's head coach. Mike Hastings
a lot of things that we could have discussed. But
after a game like that, you know, it's like, Okay,
you gotta wash your hand laundry four or five more
times right right, just to basically the way it is.
Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
And I agree with him. It's nice to be able
to learn from your mistakes. But on the same token,
as he said, you just turned the page and forget
about what happened tonight and learn from your mistakes and
draw in your positives. And that's the philosophy of a
good coach.
Speaker 1 (02:17:23):
Yep, Badger's Fall tonight. Five to one more of our
postgame show on the way. This is Badger Hockey from Learfield.

Wisconsin Badgers moved up to seventh in the national rankings,
alone in first place in the Big Ten and seven
to one and two overall when it opened its final
home series of the first semester tonight against the Ohio
State Buckeyes, who came to tow with a five hundred
record and we're owing two of the Big Ten after
losing twice at home to Penn State a couple of
weeks ago. But the Buckeyes, for whatever reason, have had
(02:20:00):
the Badger's number over the years, and they added again tonight.
Here are a couple of highlights from tonight's game. For
the buck Eyes all the way into the Wisconsin zone
and then Mouser turns it over and has to lean
back left and kick out that left pad to stop Montes.
Ingles now has it, sweeps it along the kickplate but
not out Morris. He kept it alive. Tassy turnaround, shut
(02:20:22):
Hey scars.
Speaker 32 (02:20:23):
Simon Tassi from the left wing turned and fired and
beat everly blockers side the Badgers on the board late
third period.
Speaker 1 (02:20:32):
Those are the only highlights tonight. Actually, That goal by
Simon Tassi at eleven thirty four of the third period
brought Wisconsin within two to one. Ohio State had the
lead after one period. A power play goal by Ryan Gordon,
Max Montes and defenseman Bryce Ingles with the assists first
goal of the year for Gordon, gave Ohio State that
(02:20:53):
one nothing lead. That followed a breakaway shorthanded bid by
Quinn Finley that was kicked out by Christopher. The Badgers
in the second period had nine shots on goal held
Ohio State to just four. Finley runk the crossbar in
the second period, but again the Badgers failed to score,
so Wisconsin down on nothing after two and then a
(02:21:15):
four on one bust out after a Badger's turnover, and
Adam Eisley finished it off at three twenty three, his
third goal of the season, give assist to Jake Dunlap
and Jake Carabella that made it two to nothing at
the point. At that point it proved to be the
game winning goal for Isisley. Then Tassi's goal at eleven
thirty four, his fifth of the year from Gavin Morrissey,
(02:21:36):
it was two to one, but a minute twenty five later,
Max Montes slipped behind the Badgers defense, took a pass
from Nathan McBrayer and scored on the breakaway against Daniel
Hauser from Montes his fourth goal of the season. It
came at twelve to fifty nine, three to one at
that point. The Buckeyes added another less than a minute later,
as Jake Carabella at thirteen to fifty five scored his
(02:21:58):
first collegiate goal from Isisley and from defenseman William Smith,
and then Davis Burnside an unassisted empty net goal at
sixteen thirty three, his third goal of the season. The
Badgers Tonight thirty one shots on goal but potted just won.
Ohio State had only twenty shots on goal but scored
five times against Daniel Houser. One was an empty netter.
(02:22:21):
Badgers two penalties four minutes. Ohio State five for ten, Wisconsin,
which had the top rank power play in the country,
zero for five Tonight, Ohio State one for two. Badgers
won thirty four to fifty six Faceoffscavin Morris He was
fifteen of twenty one in the faceoff dots. Both teams
had twelve block shots tonight. Chris Abel had five for
the Buckeyes. He was plus three and added an assist. Montez,
(02:22:44):
Eisley and Carabella all with a goal and an assist Tonight.
Issley led the team with four shots on goal. Christopher
Everly made thirty saves, including fourteen in the third period.
He got the win. His record now five and three.
The Buckeyes are five four, one and two in the
Big Ten. Individually for Wisconsin, as Ian mentioned Logan Henzler
(02:23:05):
five shots on goal. Adam Piela, Quinn Finley, Christian Fitzgerald
each had four shots on goal. Fitzgerald and Finley were
shooting the buck a loot on that top line, just
couldn't find the back of the end.
Speaker 2 (02:23:16):
Yeah, they couldn't. And there were a lot of block shots.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of block shots.
But every one of their shots except for the short
handed breakaway and the one that went off the pipe
in particular for Quinn Finley not contested. I don't know
what he's if. Things are just not doesn't have the
sights put in on his stick or not. I don't
know if they're synchronized the way they're supposed to be.
(02:23:38):
But when he is on, he's good good. But when
he's off, it's going to be a long night.
Speaker 1 (02:23:43):
Yeah, hopefully it starts falling for Finley. The Badgers again.
Simon Tassey had a goal tonight. He was minus two.
Gavin Morrisey had the only assist. He was minus two
this evening as well. Daniel Hauser of fifteen saves. He
gave up four goals in just over fifty nine minutes
of play. Howser's record falls to seven to two, and
two of that's Wisconsin's record. The Badger's now three and
(02:24:06):
two in the Big Ten and currently in second place,
now two points behind the Michigan Wolverines. Two hundred and
fifty five fans paid to watch a game that took
two hours and ten minutes to play. Ohio State knocks
