Speaker 4 (01:37):
And we welcome you inside the Herb Brooks National Hockey
Center here in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Aiden Michael's here with
you on ten seventy of the game. This is the
pregame show presented by Fields Madison on ten seventy. The
game the Badgers and the Saint Cloud Huskies, who are
ranked number ten in the nation. The Badgers, despite losing
one game against Minnesota last weekend, remain at the number
(01:59):
one now. Last series, the Badger turned a split against
number three now number two Minnesota. They lost five to
one in the first game, letting up five second and
third period goals after a dominant first period, and then
luckily the next day, they won seven to two in
the next game to blow back Minnesota and keep that
number one ranking. It was the first Badger loss this season,
but they bounced back in that dominant win. Then came
(02:21):
the rivalry series between the US and Canada, so there
was a bit of a bye week in the WCCHA
not for practice, but as far as the games go.
A couple of Badgers made an appearance for the national team,
Lacey Eden, Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey and Aba McNaughton. In fact,
Edwards played in her home city of Cleveland for one
of the games as well. She had a goal and
two assists in one of the games, so very successful
for her on the blue line. It is understood that
(02:43):
we're going to see most of those players in the
Olympics in Italy in a couple of months. For Saint Cloud,
they've only had one series where they didn't play against
the ranked opponent. In fact, they played against the top
five team, and now five of their last six series
they sit at the very bottom of the WCA table,
while still being the number ten ranked team in the nation.
If that doesn't show you the competitive level of the WCCHA,
(03:06):
I don't know what does. They dropped the series last
weekend or two weekends to Goo rather against Minnesota Duluth
in their last outing. They have not won a game
since October seventeenth, that is nearly a month now. Looking
at the lineups tonight, fully healthy for the Badgers, which
is something we have not been able to say in
a few weeks. But they are fully healthy. Finally, Adela,
(03:27):
Lady and Aba did not play last game against Minnesota,
but they are all back in the lineup tonight, so
all three of those will be back. Last game's third
defensive pairing, Grace Pickett and Mackenzie Jones both slide out
of the main rotation, Grace Pickett getting the scratch. Mackenzie
Jones will be there as the extra skater in case
of any injury on the blue line. Now some offensive
(03:50):
shape that we saw early on in the season and
we now see tonight. Of course, all the injuries in
the last couple of weeks prevented us from seeing this
normal shape, but tonight we are back to normal. So
that first line and now has changed. Adela Chappo valle Vova,
Lacey Eden, and Kirsten Simms back on the first line together,
which means that second line, that red hot second line
back together again. Cassie Hall, Kelly Gorbtenko, and Maggie Scannell,
(04:13):
who was the center of that first line the last
couple of games did pretty well scored fourteen seconds in
to that Minnesota win last or two weekends ago. She
is back on that second line with Cassie and Kelly.
Claire Enright, who spent some time on the first line
because of a few injuries, ended up getting WCCHA Player
of the Week because of it. Moves back on the
third line where she started the season. She'll be there
(04:33):
with Marianne Bicard and Finley McCarthy, and that fourth line
centered by Charlotte Pekinhagen will be joined as always by
Mikayla Zillish and then Hannah Halverson. Bella Vassar out of
the lineup tonight after playing the last few games only
ten career games for her in her career for the Badgers,
played in the last few games again because of so
many injuries. I'll keep saying, but again the slides out
(04:55):
of the lineup tonight. And then of course in goal
for Wisconsin Ava McNaughton, who has been incredible, she continues
to be. We'll see what she can do against another
tough opponent this weekend. Now for Saint Cloud, they've gone
with an identical lineup his last year is pretty much
the same lineup they've gone with throughout the entire season.
The red hot Mira Mikhaili and the Russian native and
(05:16):
the Quebeci and Alis Sail being centered by the Swiss
superstar Laura Zimmerman. That's going to be a red hot
first line. And then you go to the second line,
Minnesota native Avery Ferrell on the second line with a
couple of Finns, Riley musten In and Sofiana Sunderland. Certainly
a name you're going to be hearing me called quite
often throughout the evening and tomorrow afternoon. And don't count
out that third line either for the Husky Svena Folk
(05:37):
and Peyton Remick of the Wings for the Wisconsin native
Peyton Holloway. And that fourth line hasn't really done much
for Saint Cloud's state. They haven't produced as much as
coach jalasuo Wo had hoped at this point, but keep
an eye on for that anyway. An end goal, of course,
Jojo Choback. Now it's a tough one because she is
one of the best goalies in the nation. She has
proved to be over the past couple of years, but
(06:00):
she's had to do with quite a tough schedule. I
mentioned how many ranks and top five opponents Saint Cloud
has had the face that is why her numbers are
among some of the worst in the WHA, which is
very unlike her. She's had a career high forty five
saves twice in her career, both coming against Wisconsin. Now
we're gonna take a listen to the coach's corner, presented
by Fields Madison instead of head coach for the Badgers
(06:20):
Mark Johnson. I had a chance to talk to the
Saint Cloud State Huskies coach Mira Yellosuo. It's her first
season as head coach in Saint Cloud. So we're going
to take a listen, and this is the coach's corner,
all right, So this is your first season as the
head coach here in Saint Cloud. How has it been
in your first few months in this new position.
Speaker 7 (06:40):
I think it has been a lot of fun. Obviously,
we have a great coaching staff. We have a lot
of new faces in the locker room right now, thirty
new players, so a little bit of growing pains there,
but at the same time, it's a I see a
lot of potential in this team, and I know when
the games matter, we people have our all stuff together.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
And you're just the second female head coach and program
history first since the very beginning of this program in
the late nineties early two thousands. What kind of messages
this send to the younger women in hockey. You want
to continue past their playing career and get into coaching
like you did.
Speaker 7 (07:11):
Yeah, I'm a little bit different than most coaches that
I don't necessarily see it as a chander thing, Like obviously,
it's a great thing that we have more female coaches coaching,
and I think at the end of the day, it's
a numbers game that meant there is more female coaches coaching,
they will be given more opportunities in the game as well.
That it used to be a very male dominated field,
(07:31):
but now when we have a lot of female qualified candidates,
they will be getting jobs as well.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, and alongside you on the coaching staff, your former
roommate and teammate, Nora Ratu obviously played together and you're
playing days at Minnesota. How's that been to have her
on the coaching staff with you.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
It's a lot of fun that obviously we have the
trust built with each other that we we were college roommates,
started playing with the Go first two nine and graduated
twenty thirteen, and it has been super fun.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
There's four finished players on the team, and specifically the underclassmen,
the two sophomores and the freshmen. How's it been for
them and how's it been for you as someone from
Finland to kind of help them integrate themselves into playing
in the States.
Speaker 7 (08:11):
I think that it's great for the overall for the
European hockey players that there is more and more opportunities
for them to come to USA, because I think at
the end of the day, like if the European countries
wants to compete against USA and Canada, they need to
be playing against the best of the best. And it
starts with the college. Then you have to go to
beat up on UHL afterwards, and then we start seeing
(08:32):
that the gap is not anymore like seven nothing. When
USA and Finland are playing against each other, that the
gap is gonna get much much more closer.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
And the fourth finn Sofiana obviously has always been incredible.
What has pleased you the most from her game so
far this season.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
Her work ethic exampliable. That you see somebody that I
never have to question her work epic and sees one
of those players that wants to stay almost too long
at the practice that this morning when we had a
pre pregame skate, one of one of the goals, she's
had to kick her out of the out of the
ice because see wanted to stay there for way too long.
So that's who sees as a human being that she
(09:08):
is out working.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Everybody and another player that's been rather impressive as a freshman.
Maria obviously has some experience playing in New York, was
pretty good in the O WHL. But how what is
impressed to the most in her game as a freshman
coming in and playing D one.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
Point production that sees right away she was able to
produce points, put the park in the net. She's a
little bit different, different player than most of the European
players that the Euros and French Canadians they like to
pass the park too much, and the Marsha is completely
opposite that she shoot first mentality and I love that
about her game.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
And my last question, obviously the WC should get in
a bye week in terms of games because of the
rivalry series. Was the practice schedule for you guys different
if so, what was the difference and how did that
impact heading into this weekend.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
Yeah, we were able to skate Monday through Friday, so
obviously we got an EDG day there to practice. And
there's only four weeks that we can really push the players.
It said five weeks. Usually that's when we're able to
go a little bit horter. So I think it was
much needed for our group that we were able to
do a little bit more small area games battle compete.
(10:17):
So I thought it was.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Very good for us.

Welcome one and all inside the Herb Brooks National Hockey
Center here in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. A top ten matchup
between the hosts, the number ten Saint Cloud State Huskies
and the number one ranks. Wisconsin Badgers. You're listening to
the ten seventy of the game. My name is Aiden Michaels.
Joined alongside me is Mark Greenhall and Greeny Back on
the road, big game for the Badgers coming up.
Speaker 13 (14:03):
Yeah, good to be back on the ice after you know,
a two week hiatus here and should be a good contest.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
It's always tight with Saint Cloud.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Absolutely it is players getting ready to get going. The
Husky's starting their second line out with a couple of
fins on there. So Fiana Sunderland, we talked about her
in the pregame. She has been incredible. But it looks
like there are no injuries for the Badgers. There are
a lot of injuries in the past few weeks, but
that bye week certainly helped them.
Speaker 13 (14:28):
Yeah, a little time to get healthy and heal up
certainly didn't hurt us. We were plagued and riddled with
a lot of injuries there for a while and always
good to see everybody healthy.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
So back on that first line, Kirsten Sims, Adela Chappo,
Vali Vova and Lacey Eden. And again that second line
red hot. Second line back together again, Kelly Gourbtenko Cassie
Hall Maggie's scannal as. I mentioned that first line out
for the Badgers to start things off, Vivian Jungles and
Caroline Harvey the Blue Liners to start on the ice
and Ava McNaughton the Golds And here we go, puck
(15:01):
drop at the Brooks Center. Here's Jungles right off the
draw over to Captain Harvey. Now Jungles up ahead to
Eden just out of her reach and an early icing
in the first period.
Speaker 13 (15:14):
Yeah, viv tried to get it to her, but it
just kind of overshot the target there, and we'll face
it off just to the right of Ava McNaughton.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Here at our one end, important face off coming up,
trying to set the tone. Now, Saint Cloud State is
the only team in the WCCHA that can say the
last time they played the Badgers, they didn't lose, they
got the tie. So they're gonna hope to keep that
streak alive tonight. But the Badgers, obviously red hot, are
not gonna go down easy. They have beaten Saint Cloud
State ninety nine times in program history. This could be
(15:43):
number one hundred. It would be nice, wasn't it not bad?
And they've only lost nine times, so they get the
triple digits before they get to single their double digit losses.
Right at center ice, now picking it up is Peon
dumps out one across Now Harvey picks it up in
the D zone, slides it across the Jungles. Jungles finds Eaden,
this time in the neutral zone, skating it and sending
(16:06):
that one down. Sims sends pe onto the ice and
it's turned over Yoriola now skating it up for Saint Cloud.
Up the middle, Mikhaelion takes a shot into the glove
of Magnaughton and the puck is frozen. Another face off coming,
so the.
Speaker 13 (16:23):
First shot of the games taken by Saint Cloud, not Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
There you go, nice glove saved by Eva.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Another face off to the right of McNaughton, Zimmerman and Hall,
the two number elevens dueling at the left circle. Hall
wins the draw. Edward's picked it up, sorry, all trying
to take it off her poked free by Potter. Edward's
got it up ahead to scannal scannal, just miss Gorbatenko.
She picks it up in the neutral zone, drops it
(16:50):
off for Hall, haul skates away from Zimmerman and has
it in the neutral zone. Hall gives that one away.
Mikaelian put a stick to it and it took a
deflection into the Husky bench.
Speaker 13 (17:01):
You know, one thing I noticed here aiden is Saint
Cloud has some fast skaters on their team. And I
don't know if that's a product of, you know, practicing
on this big ice sheet here. It looks like Lake
Superior out here. It's a lot of ice, and they
cover it well. They got some fast skaters, and I
don't know if it's reflection of that ice or their
head coach has just got them working on that in particular.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Absolutely, I mean they do have the benefit of being
able to practice on his ice, whereas the Badger's playing
on a smaller ice. They come here, not that the
Badgers can't play. They love open ice. Who doesn't, But
of course it's a bit different from what they normally do.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
It's a little different game.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
Off the draw, Potter takes a shot blocked by Sorel
up in the air and into the netting. Lady Potter
slotting back into the lineup. Obviously she got hurt a
couple games ago. Good to see her back on the
blue line.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
It sure is.
Speaker 13 (17:49):
She had a knee or a leg there that got
banged up, and it's good to see her healthy.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Face off Now, Zimmerman and Hall duel again. One by Hall.
Potter sends that one back behind the net. Botenco battling
there with Miguelian. Scannell has it in the left corner,
down low, skating to the opposite corner, shoveling it to
the right point, but just out of the reach of Leila.
Edwards is going to retreat and chase it back down.
Scannal at center ice picks it up, lost it for
(18:15):
a moment, picks it back up. Gorbtenko can't stay on side.
We get a whistle.
Speaker 13 (18:19):
Yeah, little stick haling around the blue line. You run
that risk you're going off sides when you do that there.
So that's what happened, and that second line. We'll take
a seat on the bench, bringing up this third line.
Claire Enright, who has spent some time on the first
line because of a few injuries, now back on that
third line with Maryann Picard and Finley McCarthy and Picard,
who's the best face off taker on the WCHA wins
(18:40):
another one there.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
He gets it done consistently, doesn't.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
She absolutely centering pass, then a collision between three skaters
leading to an odd player rush. Now for the Badgers,
McCarthy on the left side enters the zone. Here's Picard
slides it across. Venusio takes a shot. She's score. Venusio
with her second goal of the season and second in
as many games, opens the scoring two minutes into this game.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (19:09):
That was the first shot of the game for the Badgers,
and a nice, pretty high percentage here bet in the thousand.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Not too bad. Emma Venusio, who scored one goal in
her rookie season last year, scored her first goal of
the season last game, gets her second goal the season
this game, and like you said, Greenny first shot of
the game finds the back of the net for Wisconsin.
Speaker 13 (19:30):
Really happy for her. I tell her in practice all
the time, he said, you got a good shot, just
hit the net. Go ahead and take that shot. Coach
isn't gonna call you up, Puckquaga. Shot on net is
a good play, you know, especially coming off for her stick.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
She usually puts a lot on it.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
And here's end right now. Centering pass was looking down
low for McCarthy couldn't find her, and Venusia certainly listened to.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
You Greenie, well you know here to give him the
straight steer right.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Sunderland down low looking for a centering pass. Another collision.
Sunderland ends up in the Badger goal, but the Huskies
stay with it and then chipped out by En right
picked up by Zimmerman who lost it. McCarthy's gonna chase.
Badgers go for a change. McCarthy has it in the
offensive corner. I like that makes a nice move, find
Sims now first line back out for the Badger. Sims
(20:16):
makes a nice move, allowing McCarthy to get off the ice.
Jungles right circle, holding with it, looking for a slot
download of fines. Eden centering pass looking for Shapovaley blah blah,
and it's a couple whacks from her and into the
glove and covered by Jojo choback boy.
Speaker 13 (20:33):
Just some good cross ice puck movement there from uh
you know, Jungles over to Eden on the left wing
and then Eden brings it back to Shappy right on
the goal post here on the right side.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
And only three minutes gone to the Badgers play getting
things going already here. Yeah, face off now to the
right of chow Back, one of the few goaltenders in
the nation to be wearing a letter on the front
of her sweater, has the a alternant captain picked up
behind the play by Lamb. Sydney Lamb skating it up
into the neutral zone. Nice pass up ahead, but it
(21:09):
was just out of the reach there of Peyton. Remick,
the Wisconsin native poked out in the corner. Lacy Eton
tried to get it. Folks picked it up instead, and
Lamb has it at center ice. Sidney Lamb dumps it down.
Was she passed the red line? No she was not.
Jungles touches up. We'll get a nice thing and a
face off on the other end of the ice with
sixteen thirty eight to go in the opening frame.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Pretty good pace here out the gate, wouldn't you say
in I.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Would say so, yeah, not bad at all.
Speaker 13 (21:36):
That's a nice rink here, a good well lit is
nice big sheet too big for my.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Blood, but uh I like it. Haul on the draw
with Holloway. Holloway wins it there. Here's Lamb behind the
net pestering her is Scannal. Lamb makes a nice move
just out of the reach though of folks. Folks picks
it back up, back up, gave it away to Scandal
now here left side. Scannal back enter the net, blaloker
(22:03):
away by chowback, centering past, looking for Gorbtenko in front,
but gobbling that one up again is Jojo Choback.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I like the way Scannal went.
Speaker 13 (22:12):
Uh you know, after puck or shot was saved there
she went and got the puck behind the net and
got it out front.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
They slot right.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Away now on the board and on the big ten
plus stream, and they haven't given sat Cloud State a
shot on that. I thought that Maria Michaelian had the
first shot of the.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Game, but yeah she did.
Speaker 13 (22:27):
Ava gloved it there and yeah, I don't know what
they were looking at her exactly.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Shot tipped in front, wide of the goal. I'm sure
ab was gonna want that on her statue.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Yeah, come on, let's make it official.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Yeah. Right. Edwards pokes it along to keep it in
the zone, which turned over to Peon. Cassie Hall picks
it back up, centering past the Scannal Scandal a shot
wide of the goal. Gorbtenko has it in the corner
now tries to get it to Scandal, can't quite do it.
Long reach of Gorbatenko can't get the puck, but it
trickles along the corner to Potter. Opposite corner. Now chasing
(23:00):
it into the corner is Edwards. Right point is Cassie
Hall skating around and getting taken away and down to
the ice as she loses their stick. Collision between Edwards
and mik Gallion at center ice. Scannal up to Gorbatenka,
who just chops it along and goes for a change.
Brings that third line back out for Wisconsin. Shovel along
(23:21):
at center ice, out of the reach of Hustinen looking
for it. There's hustinon gives it away and here's Venusio,
the goal scorer for Wisconsin, back on the ice and
right now with speed on the left side, here comes
Claire en Wright snaps a shot turned away by chowback.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Theanks drive to the net, coming down the left wing
there and.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
That's how she scored her first goal of the season,
taking it coast to coast, driving to the net and
getting it into the back of the net. The card
centering pass looking for McCarthy couldn't find her. Ava Murphy
over to Picard. Now at the point is enright snaps
the shot, took it aflection off a Husky skate and
chow Back was quick to react.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
But yeah, a little redirect there.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Oh yeah, and it's not like soccer where the Husky
player would have gotten credited with an own goal. Yeah,
but that would have been one to forget. But luckily
for the Huskies, chow Back was quick to react and
covered it up fourteen forty eight to go. Here in
the first period, Badger's lead won nothing officially with seven
shots on goal to the Husky zero. But as we
(24:24):
just said, the Huskies have one. Here's Sims now at
the left point. She likes to dance, and here she
is Sims across to Eden. Eden right circle sends that
one behind the net for Sims again. Now here's Harvey
at the left point. Harvey goes to the middle, keeps
it in on the right side. Now stops up. Still
(24:45):
Harvey looking for an option going to the middle, and
then gives it away Shapo vale Vova could not pick
it up and it's cleared away. Uncharacteristic turnover there.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
From k Yeah, you don't see Harvey do that very often.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Up by Sims on the right side right circle, centering
pass was looking for Harvey, couldn't find her. Husky's trying clear,
Jungles keeps it in. Shapovalevova in the corner, Lamb getting
it away from her, eating behind the net, trying to
poke it free, and it's picked up there by Yeriola.
It's such a weird bounce.
Speaker 13 (25:20):
Yeah, it's just good to see these players back in
the lineup, Like you were commenting earlier about people being healthy.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Again, you know, absolutely, and seeing them on their normal lines.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Here's Zimmerman left side, skating past Harvey behind the net.
Now Zimmerman going to the right side, shot at the point,
blocked in front there by Mikayla Zillish.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Nice block.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
And here's Peon taking it back in for Wisconsin. Nice
play from Pekin. Haguen moved back down to that fourth line.
She's been doing a great job on the third line
in the last few games. Puck is along the wall,
Peon trying to get it free as well as Zimmerman.
It comes free for Pekin. Hogen behind the badger net.
Now is Caroline Harvey. Harvey thought about a long pass,
(26:01):
goes to Peak and Hagen instead Peak and Hogen up
to center. Ice gets hounded by a couple of Huskies,
one of them being Krueger, who gets that puck away.
Now here's peon stretch eyes passed to good aflection, chasing
it there as Sidney Jackal and as Landy Potter's there
to react for Wisconsin. Halverson Stretch Ice pass just out
(26:23):
of the reach there of Cassie Hall, but he's able
to regain possession. As that fourth line goes to the
bench for Wisconsin. Here's Hall try to touch that one along,
gets it right back though Cassie Hall lifts it over
the net little high and Gorbatenko in the corner. Now
scannal backhand or wide of the goal, picked up at
(26:44):
the left point by Landy Potter. One touches that one
down for Hall, who touches it along to Gorbatenko in
the right corner. Right point now is Edwards Laney Potter
snaps a shot blocked in front, comes free for Gorba
Tenko right into the chest of Jojo Choback with twelve
six team to go in the first.
Speaker 13 (27:01):
I like the way Gorbo just gathered dead in in
the high slot and curled it to her forehand and
ripped a nice shot on nut Good, saved by Chowback.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Yeah, she's kind of like a Corey Perry. Just finds
her office right in the crease, right outside of it. Yeah,
a little bit bigger than Corey.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
Perry though, Yeah, somewhat face.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Off now to the right of Chowback. Maryon Picard's surprise surprise,
wins another draw. This time it goes in between Potter
and Edwards and goes out into the Badger's zone. Peyton Remick,
trying to keep the zone for the Huskies, can't do it.
Picard picks it up in the corner, touches that one
along Remick and at center Ice finds McCarthy Leyla Edwards
(27:42):
will pick it up in the defensive zone in the corner.
Potter sends that one along. Did it take a touch
off of enright? Yes, it did so no Ice, and
there's a disagreement between the two referees. One referee at
his h Yeah, her linesman had his arm up, the
other one did not. Here's Venusio. Now slides it across,
finds Murphy, who dumps that one down and right goes
(28:05):
for a change as well as Picard. McCarthy's still out
there trying to keep the puck in the zone.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Good check by McCarthy had.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Some help and the Badgers were able to keep it
in the zone for a moment. But now it's skated out,
they're able to get some new fresh skates out on
the ice. Venusia now picked it up in the corner
of the Badger's zone, across to Murphy, up to Sims.
Sims still with it on her knees, but still makes
the play, shovels it along to Murphy behind that Eden
(28:33):
looking for a centering pass just under the stick of
Kirsten Sims.
Speaker 13 (28:38):
That's funny how Simms is able to stick handle better
on her knees than most people are on their feet,
No kidding.
Speaker 12 (28:43):
You know.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Most certainly not bad at all, and it worked out.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Yep, Badgers still.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Exactly and it still is in the zone. Is that
first line can go for a change that defensive pairing
at least feral centering pass. Nobody there in red. Here
comes he eating up the middle right circle, rips a
shot off the stick of Uriola, who loses it in
the process as the Husky skate out of the zone.
(29:10):
Nikaelian shoveling that one along, still with it in the corner,
goes for sorryal but lost it. Now up ahead finds
more and who takes a shot say by mcdonnal, the
first official shot on goal for the Huskies. Nick Alien
from the point, blocked by Jungles in front. Felt that
(29:30):
one in her hand. But she's gonna be okay, Yeah,
Vivian Jungles, who blocked more shots than any skater on
Wisconsin or on Minnesota in last weekend series.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
She is a solid defensive player, isn't she?
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (29:42):
She is reads the play well.
Speaker 13 (29:44):
In smart Hockey Iq, there those where to position herself.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
One of the most underrated players on this team because
a lot of the stuff she goes unnoticed.
Speaker 13 (29:52):
Yeah, it's not stuff you see on the score sheet,
but its very valuable contributions to be successful.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Now Here comes Harvey Wright circle spinning away, centering past.
It's a Hall spins away as well, right point to Edwards.
Now Harvey goes under her stick, but she picks it
right back up. Makes a nice move to get around Sreal,
stopping up his end. Right in the corner, finds Harvey
behind the net, shovels that one along and picked up
instead by Sidney Bryant. Here's en Right in the slot,
(30:21):
fans on a shot, looks for a second attempt, but
Chowback is there to gobble it up.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Yeah. I was hoping Enright could whistle that one in there,
but not enough on it. Fanned it.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Not a bad look, but Right just missed it.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Fanned a little bit.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
As we get our under ten time out, nine fifteen,
I mean, Granny eight shots for the Badgers, obviously they
have the one goal to show for it. Yeah, Husky's
just with one official shot on goal. They haven't really
possessed a puck in that zone. The Badger's been all
over them. Yeah.
Speaker 13 (30:49):
I like the pressure we're putting causing transitions in the
neutral zone. You know, if you don't manage to puck there,
you turn it over. And we're forcing Saint Cloud to
do that a little bit. So that's our advantage, I think.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Yeah. And it's weird how the w CCHA works, just
with how competitive this league is. Oh, you're not kidding, yeah,
I mean Saint Cloud State is the last place team
in the w CCHA, but there's still the tenth ranked
team in the country.
Speaker 13 (31:12):
They'll give you a game, no matter what, you know,
regardless of the record, whether it's home or away. Much
like BAMIDGI for instance, or our conference in general, you're
gonna get on a weekend, you're gonna get six periods
out of your opponent, and you better bring your a
game or you're gonna it's gonna cost.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
You, absolutely, certainly Badgers. Meanwhile, of course the number one
team not only in the nation but in the w
c CHA as well, Minnesota, and they're able to get
a win against the Badgers last weekend or two weekends ago.
Rather they jumped up on Ohio State. They're number two.
Ohio State down at number three, So it's just shaping up.
Those three teams are always the teams to look out for.
Speaker 13 (31:46):
Badgers, Gophers, no margin for air, they're.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Not at all. You know, Yeah, one loss could take
you down. You know, thank gosh that the Badgers were
able to get one against Minnesota in that second game
to stay at number one. I mean, you make one
mistake and that could that could cost the spot as Yeah. Absolutely,
And here we go, nine to fifteen to go in
the first period, we are back on the ice, Chapa
vale Vova taking the face off. There against Sofiana Sunderland,
(32:11):
a couple of Europeans playing abroad.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Jappy winds the draw.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
Great draw win there from Chappie on her return to
the ice. Good to see her back as always, we
could say that for so many players that have business.
The last couple of weeks, centering pass down low tied
up with Murphy, though was Avery Ferrell, so she never
got to The puck comes free for Hustinen, sent it across,
picking it up as Wolf takes a shot wide to
the goal. Tried the one time slapper. Just trying to
(32:36):
get pucks to the net here.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Yeah, I think Eden might have got a piece of that.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Nice block out in front then from Eden, Yeah, picked
up by Ferrell. Nice play there from Potter, but then
gave it away in her own zone. Luckily Eden's there
to the rescue. Murphy now up ahead to Sims. Sims
on the right side, lost control of it for a moment,
picked up by Peon. Sim's time her up, trying to
(33:00):
get it free for eating in the corner. Puck still
frozen against the boards in that right corner in the
husky zone. Sim's out there, gets it right back and
then lost it to Peon who can try and clear
collision there at center ice. Referee says it's incidental. Big
hit there as shapavali Vova goes down, loses her stick
(33:21):
in the process, picks it right back up. Huskies keep
the zone. Here's Soreo up the middle. Soreo rips a
shot into the glove of McNaughton. No tip there from
Zimmerman in front.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
I'm glad she was able to pick that puck clean.
Speaker 13 (33:34):
There's a lot of traffic in front of her and
she saw the puck through traffic and no rebound aloud.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
I like that. So now the Huskies, who were down
seven nothing as far as shots on goal, are now
only down eight to four. A couple of good surges
from the Huskies, Yeah in recent minutes.
Speaker 13 (33:52):
Yeah, you say, if you fail to get the puck
out of the zone or you turn her over to
the neutral zone, you know, just gives them more opportunities.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Centering pass gets gloved up by McNaughton. Following another face
off win from Marian Baccard three for three tonight. And
I know I already mentioned that she's the best face
off taker in the WC. She's winning almost seventy five
percent of the draws. I know.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
I love to see that out of her, you know.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
And of course commentator's curse. She loses that one.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
There I did.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
I'm sorry, Marian, don't do it again. I won't. I won't.
I've learned my lesson. Yeah. Here she is now back
to the Badgers, tipped in front by Enright, she's gonna
chase it behind the net in the in the husky zone.
McCarthy makes a nice move around Bryant drops it off
for Picard Mackenzie Jones. Her first introduction of the night
(34:44):
was on the line with Grace Bickett. Last series is
the extra skater tonight chasing it is McCarthy, Badgers keeping
the zone still seven twenty to go in the first period.
Badger's lead one nothing thanks to an Emma Venusio goal
early on, and here's he is in the corner to
touch up for an icing.
Speaker 13 (35:05):
You know, Aiden, They've got kind of a strong finish
influence on their team, don't they.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
I absolutely do, of course head coach Mira.
Speaker 13 (35:12):
Yalasuo, yeah, as well, and their goalie coach. I don't
know if you remember Nora Ratzu Ratu, Yep, she was
just amazing.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Uh you know they went forty one and once with
her in.
Speaker 13 (35:23):
That Minnesota golfers Yeah, yeah, she's incredible.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Doorba Tenko is it's a backhand now from scandal got
pushed from behind, no call, but a couple of good
staves there from Chowback right off the draw.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Yeah, good pressure in tight Yeah, not.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Bad at all. It cut us off. It was that quick. Yeah,
Chowback is going to be pressured by gorbatenco show hold
on and yeah, more on Nora Rotsu. Obviously I wasn't
old enough to watch her play, but teammates with head
coach Yalasuo as well at Minnesota. There were roommates too.
They were among the two first European players to play
for the University of Minnesota winning hockey team, So yeah,
(36:02):
they've come a long way. Of course, Nora.
Speaker 13 (36:04):
Isn't very tall at all, but she proved to me
that you don't have to be that tall to you know,
play solid goal, good strong legs and foot movement, good
edgework in the crease.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
And three players go down. Scannell looked like got tripped up,
but I think the referee signaled the body check.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Yeah, No, I was that there letting them go here.
I'm not sure. Maybe the ref's gonna get there.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
And is it gonna go against Cassie Hall? So is
that a body check? I think is the call? So
Cassie Hall collided with the husky.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Yeah, look like incidental collision to me.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Not to be biased, of course, and then Scannell got
tripped up, which I didn't think any of that was
a penalty. I just saw the referee hold their hand up.
But there you go. So the Badgers we'll head to
the penalty kill. Yeah, they've got They killed ninety four
point four percent of their penalties. They're number one in
the WHA Saint Cloud.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Who'd end up calling there?
Speaker 4 (36:59):
Cassie Halls, the people there?
Speaker 3 (37:01):
You go for a body check?
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Ain't Yeah?
Speaker 13 (37:04):
It looked pretty much like coincidental collisions really more than anything.
I don't think there was any ill intent there. I
agree with you Greeney. I didn't think there was much
in that. And usually the referees in the WHA let
them play. Yeah, but anyway, shorthanded is McCarthy wasting some
time off that clock? As I mentioned, Padger's best penalty
kill in the WHA Saint Cloud State, second worst power
(37:26):
play like this is one of those. This ice sheet,
this is where like a power plane. Now, it's like
there's acres of space to work with here.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Oh oh, I think they called off side, but that
could have been a trip.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
I know, I was just gonna it was a toss
up there.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Yeah, so they called off side on the Huskies. The
story all was moving in she got tripped up, but
again the offside was called before anything.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
We seated preceded the potential trip. I think so that.
Speaker 13 (37:52):
Yeah, when you're on the penalty kill here with this
size ice sheet, you really got ocean of ice to cover.
You know, absolutely, your position is really critical.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
Picard wins the draw, Badgers trying to kill some more
time turned over by Murphy, though from the defensive zone
at the point is Peon slides it across to morn
Now down lows. Lebay gets it right back morn over
to le Bay. Not a peon. Peon makes a great
move around the car, takes a shot wide of the goal. Wow,
what a move.
Speaker 13 (38:24):
Yeah, she evided Picard and then he got past Murphy too.
I thought one of them was going to block it.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah, he was able to get the shot away. But yeah,
it was wide of the goal, so nothing to worry
about for Ava McNaughton.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Just yet.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
Le Bay now at the point to Sunderland. Now le
Bay spinning away from n right left circle. One time
from Morn turns by McNaughton, Murphy getting that free and
then clearing the zone. With five point fifteen to go
in the first period, just thirty seconds remain on Cassie
(38:56):
Hall's penalty. A couple of good looks for saying Claus,
but nothing too dangerous for the Huskies. Here is Sorreal
now on the left side, stopping up at the blue line.
Harvey and Potter trying to get that free Sims rather
now here is Wolf now? One time we're blocked in
front by Vivian Jungles.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Yeah, I hope she's okay.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
A little gingerly skating.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
It was holy call she got that clean, but of.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Course it's Vivian Jungles the warrior stepping in front of
that shot goes over the glove of mcnonton rebound wide
of the goal. Cassie Hall comes out of the box,
skate straight to the bench. On comes the fifth skater,
Lacy Eden, who's gonna want to mount an attack for
Wisconsin here and they've got numbers. Jungles touches that one
along on the left side. Jungles skating behind the net,
(39:45):
still with it, gets taken down but incidental contact no
call there. Stays with the pucks somehow picked up by
Mikaeleon Now for the Huskies. A two on two to
follow in the neutral zone. Mikaelian trying to get that
and free of Harvey. Harvey makes a nice move skating
into the corner. Is Remick for the Huskies. Remick drops
(40:06):
that one off haul Away lost her footing for a moment.
Jungles putting a stick in so is shappy. Shot from
the point deflected by Folked and why to the goal.
A lot of shot attempts from the Huskies, but not
a lot finding.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Right a little wide wide.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
Scannel lets that one run. Folkd is chasing it but
getting their first. Is Leila Edwards coming off a pretty
good rivalry series. We didn't know if she was to
play in it with her injury a few weeks ago,
but came back against Minnesota and yeah, had a few
points on that weekend in her home city, no less
of Cleveland. Was very nice to see.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Good back checked there by Hall. I think.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Scannal picks it right back up. It's hard to see,
you know. Cassie Hall's got the long hair blocking the night.
Now in the neutral zone, brought down by Scannell nicely
on her own blue line, gets it up ahead to Edwards,
tries to find Scannal it shoveled back down behind the
net and getting it in the corner as potter as
the Huskies can go for a much needed change. Final
(41:11):
three minutes of play here in the first one nothing Wisconsin.
Here's Gorbotenko dumps and chases herself. Gorbotenko trying to kill
some time to get some fresh legs out for Wisconsin.
On defense, Cassie Hall picks it up, finds Venusio. Venusio
slides it across the Murphy shot blocked by Jackal. Jackal
(41:33):
trying to clear it away and she does up the
other way comes Labbe sends that one back behind the net.
Mcnatton's there to get it picked up by Murphy. Labbe
still chasing Labbe poking at it. Enrit trying to get
it free and trying to clear the zone, gets it
back to Murphy, sends that one across over the stick
of Venusio in the corner, who can send it off
(41:55):
the glass and out of the zone. Labe sends that
one back into the Badger zone, but there to collect
is Venusio for Wisconsin fans on a pass and gives
it away. But she's able to make a nice defensive
recovery though. Yeah, and the Badger's keep possession. Murphy up
to Picard. Picard sends that one down, colliding there with Mikiellien.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
Yeah at the blue liner.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
And here is behind the net. Zimmerman sends that one
all the way up to Soreol and the Badger zone.
Sorrel stopping up, takes a shot wide to the goal,
picked up by Captain Zimmerman on the left circle. Now
get to the cross to Mikaelien at the point. Now
up the middle taking a shot but blocking that one
was en right untill go to the beach. Good shift
(42:42):
from her. Nikaelien makes a nice move around Harvey rips
the shot wide to the goal. There aren't many players
that can dance around Caroline Hardle like that. Maria mckellien
is certainly one of them. Five goals as a freshman
this season from Moscow. Played last season in New York
and the o WHL put up some great numbers there,
(43:03):
more than a point per game there in New York.
Chapa Vallee Vova loses it out to Sunderland. Final minute
of the first period. Cam the Huskies find a tying
goal or can the Badgers perhaps add one going into
the break. Here's Eden on the right side now entering
the zone into the corner, centering pass off a skate
(43:24):
idea definitely.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
And it's cleared away, was defended welly st claud.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
And here we go a three on one for the
Husky boy sliding in across but just out of the
reach of Mouston in. Gosh, what a chance. That would
have been a battle line change for the Badgers. Yeah,
and they could not connect. They couldn't get a shot off.
Feral now, final twenty seconds of the first period, right
point to Mouston in one time or why the goal
took a deflection? Feral at the circle getting tied up
(43:53):
with Potter. Edward's there to help, picked up by mooston
In gave it away to Simms ten seconds to play.
Eden up to Sims. They're tired, but they're gonna keep going. Yeah,
here's Kirsten sims up the middle, makes a move but
can't find a lane of the goal, and that will
do it for period number one here in Saint Cloud,
the Badgers with eleven shots to Saint Cloud's five and
(44:16):
Ama Venusio scoring the lone goal. Yeah.
Speaker 13 (44:18):
I like the way she let her rip there from
the point and made it cut it on the first
shot of the game. So a good way to start
for her and our team.
Speaker 4 (44:26):
Yeah, and Graenny, just any any thoughts on that first period?
I mean, pretty good for Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Io.
Speaker 13 (44:31):
I think we really got to make sure we uh
don't turn the puck over obviously in our own end,
you know, make sure we clear the zone and manage
it the neutral zone as well.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
We'll get our chances, all right, Well, one nothing after one.
Well we'll take a quick break. We'll be right back

is the intermission report brought to you by Fields Madison,
your premier luxury auto group serving customers since nineteen seventy
one Aiden Michael's year with you on send seventy of
the game here in Saint Cloud, Minnesota at the Herb
Brooks National Hockey Center. The Badgers lead one nothing after
the first period eleven shots on goal to the Huskies five. Now,
(46:47):
the Badgers have been by far the more dominant team
in this first period. The Badgers normally aren't a first
period team. Of course, they're not bad in the first period.
They are the best team in the nation regardless, but
they normally start to turn things up in the second
and third periods. And that's the same for Saint Cloud State,
as head coach Mirayelosuo said in her media conference after
the Minnesota DLU series two weekends ago, that they really
(47:09):
start to turn things up in the second and third.
But when you're playing a team like Wisconsin, that's not
something you can really do. You need a strong first period.
The Huskies didn't play poorly by any measure, but the
Badgers certainly had their number. Most of that offensive zone
time was in that Husky zone. The Badgers were controlling
it like it was a power play. Badgers did not
get on the power play at all the Badger's penalty
(47:31):
kill remained almost perfect. We can't say perfect anymore. The
Badger's up until two weekends ago had a perfect penalty kill.
They gave up one power play goal to Josephine Bouvang
from the University of Minnesota in that Minnesota win, that
five to one victory in that first game, but since
then the Badgers have been doing okay. They had to
(47:51):
kill a penalty. It was a body checking penalty going
against Cassie Hall, and Green and I were talking about it.
If you're just tuning in and didn't hear this, it
was seemed like to be incidental contact between Cassie Hall
and I believe it was Alice Siol from Saint Cloud's State.
And then after that, Soriel sticks her stick out and
gets into the skates of Maggie Scannal and trips her up,
(48:13):
and the call we got from that was a body
checking penalty from Cassie Hall. So it's not normally. Not
only does Cassie Hall stay out of the penalty box,
it's just her first penalty of the season, but she's
not the biggest player either. She's five foot six and
she's a forward, and she gets called for a body
checking penalty. Not something you see every day, certainly not
(48:35):
if you're Cassie Hall. She's got eleven goals this season,
leads the team in goals, was the first Badger to
get to double digits in the goal category. She's looking
to get on the score sheet. She's on the sheet,
but not in the way that she would have hoped.
But that was the only penalty of the first period.
Badger's killed it off pretty easily. The Huskies, though they
have five shots on goal, they've had many more shot attempts.
(48:56):
They've probably shot the puck goal more times than they've
actually shot it at Ava McNaughton. They're certainly just trying
to put plucks to the net, which is a good strategy,
I'm sure, but they're just missing the net. They're missing it.
Why they're missing it high, They're getting it down low
into the corner centering pass and then it's taken away.
Nobody's there to crash the net to try and put one,
(49:17):
at least on net for Ava mcnotton, of course, one of,
if not the best goaltenders in the nation, so perhaps
that would be better for Saint Cloud. In the second period.
In the third period against Minnesota Duluth in their last game,
they had eighteen shots on goal alone just in that
third period. They ended up losing that game, of course,
by just a score of three to two. They put
out a really good shift. They were the better hockey
(49:39):
team in that third period by far, and that's against
the team who's number five in the nation, Minnesota dulof
So we'll see how they can respond in the second
and third periods. But we got to talk about the
only goal. Emma Venusio, who had one career goal, which
was last season, two weekends ago. Before the Minnesota series
comes into that second game again, Minnesota scores a goal,
(50:01):
her first of the season or second in her career,
and then today she scores the only goal for Wisconsin
in that first period. So it's just her third career goal,
her second of the season, and her second in as
many games. It's her first goal streak of her career,
so perhaps she can continue that tomorrow. But some pretty
good stuff from the Toronto native. She had fifteen assists
(50:23):
last season as a freshman. She's only got three this season,
but now she's got two goals. As I mentioned, she's
been great defensively, of course, we talk about this so
many times in hockey. Vivian Jungles a player, for example,
she doesn't show much, she doesn't show up much on
the score sheet, but when it comes to doing things
with hockey Iq and the getting in front of the
net and blocking shots and taking the puck away, she
(50:46):
is absolutely spectacular. And you can tell that Emma Venusio
is learning a bit from Vivian Jungles. We'll see if
they'll combine online. Mark Johnson changed up the lines defensively
quite a bit, and it's nothing abnormal. We see him
do that quite a bit. But Caroline Harvey and Vivian Jungles,
who started together, they kind of shifted a bit. Ava
Murphy was fluctuating between that second and third pairing. It's
(51:07):
her first game back too. Now we never got word
on whether that was a healthy scratch or an injury.
She played in that first game against Minnesota two weekends ago,
didn't have her best game in all honesty. Then we
find out she's not even an extra skater, but not
in the lineup in that next game. We didn't get
any word on an injury like we did for the
other injured players. But I Digress. That's no longer relevant
(51:29):
at this point. As we said, it is a full,
healthy lineup for the Badgers. It's great to see Potter
back in the lineup. She's been great, has not missed
the step and I'll tell you it's a perfect time
to get the Badgers back to full strength health wise.
Because of the rivalry series last weekend, the Badgers didn't
have a bye week in terms of practice. They still
practiced Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday last week. But of course
(51:51):
with that rivalry series, they did not have to play
a game. They were able to stay home before coming
to Saint Cloud here and they were able to get
a rest and get that full lineup back out. I
thought that first line was pretty good as well, with Shappy,
Lacey and Kirsten. Of course, Kirstin was playing on the
second line for the first time of the season after
suffering that ankle injury in the Icebreaker tournament in New
(52:13):
York a few weeks ago. She came back in the
Minnesota series on a line with Paul and Gorbachenko did
pretty well. But it's good to see her back where
she belongs on that first line with Adela and with Lacey.
Of course, he's always a stalwart first liner for the Badgers.
But like I said, it's been pretty dominant. There's not
much to talk about it. That period went by pretty fast,
I'll have to say, not a lot of whistles. Of course.
(52:35):
A big factor for that is we're playing at a
full size hockey rink. This is where the men's team
plays as well in Saint Cloud, so it's the same size.
It is a full two hundred foot same dimensions as
as the men's team, so it's a lot bigger. It's
very different from most wha arenas for women's hockey, and
of course for the Badgers who play at Lebon next
(52:57):
to the Coal Center, so they've got that smaller rice.
So this is they're letting this game go on a lot,
not a lot of whistles. The referees for the most
part are letting him play a couple of good hits
out there. But the only penalty being called for Cassie
Hall's body check, which I thought it was a bit
of a soft one, but again I'm no expert, I'm
not a referee. But the open ice, as Greenie says,
(53:17):
an ocean of ice for a lot of players out
there who may not be used to playing on this
big ice like the Badgers, but who love playing on it.
Caroline Harvey one of those players, for example, who just
thrives with more open ice as she can just skate
up and find more lanes to get past the Saint
Cloud State defense. But we're gonna take a quick break
(53:39):
here when we come back. Some more on the intermission reports.
Some more in the rivalry series that happened last weekend.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
One call, that's all injured. Remember one call, that's all.
Speaker 4 (55:57):
And we welcome you back to the intermission report. Here,
you're on ten seventy the game brought to you by Fields, Madison,
ad and Michaels here with you. We're at the Herbrooks
National Hockey Center here in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. The Badgers
lead the Huskies by a score of one to nothing
after the first period. Now we must remember the last
time these two teams faced off, it was a two
to two tie, with the Badgers getting the extra point
(56:18):
in the shootout. But I said this on the broadcast earlier.
The Saint Cloud State Huskies are the only team in
the WCCHA that can say that the last time they
played the Badgers, they didn't lose. Every other team the
WCCHA has lost to the Badgers in their most recent
matchup Saint Cloud State, though getting the two to two tie. Now,
just taking a look at the rankings, obviously, the Badgers
(56:39):
number one of the national rankings. Saint Cloud State despite
being the eighth out of eight teams in the WCCHA,
they're the number ten ranked team in the country. But
they are at risk and I know they've played a
lot of tough games. In recent games, they are four
and eight, which is not necessarily what you see out
of a top ten team, but of course they are
better than what we are seeing. They've had to play
(57:00):
number five Minnesota Duluf, number two Ohio State, number three Minnesota,
and now of course number one Wisconsin. These are, by
the way, over the last six weeks, five of their
last six series have been against top five teams. In fact,
they've only had one non ranked matchup that was against
Lyndenwood their two to five nothing wins the opening series.
Since then, they've had a ranked matchup in every single game,
(57:23):
and they get a nice break from that. Next weekend
they'll play against Bimigie State, but then they're going back
to that. In the D one and DC tournament in
our nation's capital right after Thanksgiving, they got to play
against number fourteen Colgate and then number twelve Parkson as well.
So tough schedules remains for Saint Claus State. That's just
how it is. In the Wcacha quote, my point in
(57:45):
bringing this up here is Yale right now, who is
tied at number ten with Saint Claus State in the
national rankings. They are currently losing to unranked Harvard at
the end of the second period, so definitely something to
keep an eye out off. The Badger get a win
against Saint Claut's, let's just say, and there's a lot
of hockey to play, and we'll discuss this more tomorrow,
but let's just say that the Huskies get swept by
(58:07):
the Badgers. If Harvard can pick up a win against Yale,
let's say they do it today, as they're leading after two,
the Huskies could keep their number ten rank despite getting quipped.
So just something to keep an eye out for those
of you WCCHA hockey fans that follow other teams aside
from the Badgers. Just something to keep an eye out on.
As we conclude our intermission report, hawk drop to start
(58:28):
the second period will just be in a couple of minutes,

Speaker 4 (01:00:42):
Okay, and we welcome you back inside the Brooks Center
here in Saint Cloud's Here, sir, you're in Saint cloud
on the campus of Saint Clouds State University. We're here
to begin the second period. Aid and Michael's alongside Mark
Greenhall as we're right underway, and an offside call to
start things off here about forty five seconds into this
first period.
Speaker 13 (01:01:01):
And an offside I think this is kind of indicative
of some of these girls. They haven't played in over
three weeks, you know, some of them that were injured,
they haven't played in four weeks, and all of them
haven't played in two weeks. So little stuff like that
offside there you know, I think we're going to iron
that stuff out as we get more playing time under
our belt.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
Exactly. Yeah, I mean Shoppy for example, getting hurt. Yes,
she gets right back on the first line after not
playing for a few weeks. As you said, Right here
is Lamb taking it out of the zone, get to
the soil, up to center ice to Zimmerman making a
move past Edwards in the Badger zone, Scannal getting it
to Potter behind the Badgernette shovels it along to Cassie
(01:01:41):
Hall glides that one along the Gorbatenko. Gorbatenko is gonna race.
There is not gonna beat Sydney Lamb. So an icing
called against the Badgers.
Speaker 13 (01:01:49):
Passed this a little long, So yeah, we'll face it
off down here, probably just to the right of Eva.
Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
McNaughton, and the kind of similar to what we saw
in the first period, which is early on the Huskies
were forcing some icings from the Badgers, and same story
here to open up the second period. But then, of
course the rest is history there as the Badgers win
the draw, it was Cassie Hall Edwards get tripped up, turnover,
(01:02:17):
backhander to the net. It's still and tight McNaughton made
the stop, didn't know where the puck was, and Edwards,
who thought she got tripped up, gave the puck away
and again a pretty hot start for the Huskies, as
they did in the first period. Of course, that was
very quick for the Huskies. They got off to a
hot start only for about a minute and a half.
(01:02:39):
Similar story here, but we'll see if they can continue
centering past nobody there in red.
Speaker 13 (01:02:44):
Little indecision by Aba. She was gonna go out and
play the puck and then didn't and then picked up
by a Husky.
Speaker 4 (01:02:50):
Husky's still with it. Here's Lamb up the middle, entering
the zone, takes a shot turned away by mg naughton,
and a turnaround slapshot wide of the goal finds Lamb
at the right. Lamb slides it across. Uriola takes a shot,
deflect it over the goal. Now here is Potter. She's
just gonna lift that one up. Looking for en right
(01:03:12):
the laid off side for the Badgers, I have to
touch up. Here's Jackal now up ahead to Labbey. Labbe
comes loose the chance in front, saved by McNaughton, and
it was Maya Krueger for Saint Cloud State with another
great chance and man a Husky's off to a great start.
The Badgers look a bit flat footed here.
Speaker 13 (01:03:29):
Yeah, Leila Edwards got caught up tangled up there and
she couldn't get loose to get that puck, allowing that
shot from just outside the crease that Eva was able
to stop.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Big save there.
Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
Top line out for the Huskies. Third line out for
the Badgers. Picard rarely loses the draw, gets it right
back though behind the Badger net, trying to fend off Sunderland,
and does Picard gets it right back still with it
up the middle, making a move. Picard takes a shot
off the stick of my Peon and here is Pon
(01:04:02):
now in our own zone, up ahead to Ferrell, stopped
up by Venusio, picked up though, centering pass backhander behind
the net, picked up by Soreal. Now in the slaught,
a shot turned away by the stick of McNaughton. Another
good chance now for the Huskies. They've got nine shots
on goal now in this game, Badgers with twelve. They're
(01:04:24):
closing the gap early on in this second period. Sorreal
shovels that one along. Couldn't keep it in though. Is
Mikaelien shovels that one down. McNaughton just has to grab it.
Pressure from Mickeyellien, and again the Huskies continue to find
ways against the Badgers to get the shot on net.
Speaker 13 (01:04:47):
Yeah, we just have not had much puck possession so
far in this period and allowing the Huskies to get
a few opportunities here in our own.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
In top line, back out for the Badgers. Zimmerman taking
the draw with Chappa valle Vava to the left of
Ava McNaughton. Shappy wins the draw, Harvey sends it back
behind the goal. Shappy picks it up in the corner,
loses an edge, but stays with the puck. Harvey, now
in the other corner, gets it to the blue line,
(01:05:16):
finding it is Sims. Sims takes it in the zone
on the right side, left side.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
He kept possession for a while but eventually got it stripped.
Speaker 4 (01:05:25):
Here comes Lamb a four on two. Huskies have numbers,
but skating off side is Mikhaelien. It was Alie Sorial
just a touch off side.
Speaker 13 (01:05:36):
From certain angles. This rink looks and it is, but
it looks so wide. Yeah, it's what it's one hundred
feet wide. And uh boy, you can see every inch
of it here, A lot of ice, a lot of
space to cover.
Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
Now, Holloway and Hall taking the draw just outside the
Badger zone. Holloway wins it and then it's dumped down
Scannal with a check at the blue line. Badger's regained possession,
but they can't get out of the zone just yet.
Folked is battling for it there along the boards with
Maggie Scannell. Puck's still not loose, Scandal trying to poke it.
(01:06:11):
Now it's free, brought in by Remega, shot blocked in
front by Harvey and picked up by Hall behind the net,
gets it up to Gorbatenko who can skate it out
of the zone uphead to Scannal, a heavy touch, it's
turned over and Gorbtenko is offside.
Speaker 13 (01:06:25):
You know, that was the first time, first possession where
we actually had a smooth breakout. You know, we pretty
much got it up and out of the zone pretty quickly.
There we're struggling for whatever reason, or taking it into
traffic rather than the path of least resistance, and as
a result, we haven't had a lot of puck possession
in the offensive end.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Yet Halloway and haul duel again, this time on the
opposite face off circle, just outside of the husky zone,
and this time Cassie Hall wins the draw. Edwards at
center ice gets it to Potter. Potter skating into the
zone on the left side, Potter behind the net centering
pass looking for a stick in front. Scannal got hammered
by Holloway and it sent up ahead chasing it. There
(01:07:06):
is remick icing has waved office but no, and there's
a badger slow to get up. Who is that?
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
Trying to look on the replay board as well.
Speaker 13 (01:07:16):
I don't like anybody getting hurt, let alone somebody in
a badger jersey an outcome.
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Steph the trainer and Cassie Hall's telling her what happened?
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Is that Leila getting up Laylah Edwards.
Speaker 13 (01:07:29):
Yeah, she went down behind her net there and I'm
not sure what conditioner you know, impact she incurred, but
it didn't look good. She's she's on her feet now
and appears much better, but.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Got up slowly.
Speaker 4 (01:07:44):
Yeah. So I'm looking at the replay here it was
you can't tell which husky it was, but away from
the puck just backs up into Lailah Edwards. So she
just took a hard check and out of all of
that comes a powerfuly for Wisconsin. They did call it
interference penalty on that. So I guess who's on the ice,
Greeny Layla Edwards.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
Yeah, so she recovered quickly, evidently.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Seems to be okay. Obviously had that knee injury earlier
on in the season. Returned last series against Minnesota and
scored on the power play. So we'll see what she
can do on the power play here tonight against the Huskies.
First power play for the Badgers tonight, shot in front
turned away by Choe back, picked up left circle by Edwards,
sends that one down low, tried to find Eden, and
(01:08:24):
then it's cleared away by Grace Wolf. Huskies will get
a new line out picked up by Harvey in the
Badger's zone. She's gonna take it herself up to center.
Ice sends it across to Edwards, out of her reach,
but she picks it right back up. Now Here comes
Harvey up the middle. Harvey skating back to the left
point and then finds Edwards up the middle. Edwards slides
(01:08:47):
it across here, sims centering pass. It's Harvey scullers Caroline
Harvey on the power play and the Badgers lead to nothing.
Another Blue line are getting on the score sheet tonight.
Four whiskyn and goal number seven of the season for.
Speaker 13 (01:09:02):
KK beautiful shot, a hard wrister from the top of
the left circle. I don't think it was even intended
to get to her, but it went wide and it
ended up out in her stick and she made it
count right away. Right before she took that shot, Aiden,
I was going to say, you know, I don't think
we've seen a shot by Carolyn Harvey today. I don't
really think we have up prior to that goal she
(01:09:23):
just scored. But I'm glad she started to shoot.
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Exactly, no kidding, And we saw Emma Venusio score the
Badgers first goal on the first shot of the game. So,
first shot of the first period for the Badgers, Caroline
Harvey scores on the first shot of the second period
for Wisconsin. That was nice to see, no kidding. So
the moral of.
Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
The story is to shoot the puck, right.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
Yeah, right, might as well yeah, So for the second
straight period. It was a good start from the Huskies,
rendered irrelevant by a Badger goal. We'll see how the
Huskies can respond. Now in the second period. They are
a much better second and third period team we've seen
this season. Undland chasing getting there before Murphy, then gets
tied up by Murphy in the Badger's zone. Huskies go
(01:10:04):
for a change. Second line out for the Badgers, led
by Kelly Gorbatanka, who's got the puck now up ahead
to Hall, Hall to Murphy on the left side. That
one is sent across and off the skate of Brian
of the Huskies and gobbled up by Chowback with thirteen
fifty one to go here in the second period, Badgers
lead to nothing.
Speaker 13 (01:10:25):
Now, let's see in this period as it progresses, if
we get into more of a flow, you know, just
from playing a little more. Like I said, a lot
of these ladies haven't played in a number of weeks,
and you know, I think it's kind of evident.
Speaker 4 (01:10:39):
That it is.
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
I mean, we're typically a really good passing club, and
I haven't seen the consistent good passing just yet today.
But we'll see it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:49):
Yeah, it hasn't necessarily been tape to tape, but like
you said, it's been a few weeks. Yeah, we'll cut
them some slack here yep. Scann a nice pass up
ahead to fight and right on the left side, now
entering the zone left circle centering pass was looking for
the stick of McCarthy, never.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
Got it on the ice a little too deep.
Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
Mackenzie Jones stops it up, gets it up to McCarthy,
but then it's turned over at center. ICE's Jungles skips
by her, gets to en Right, who gives it away
to Bryant, who will dump it down and the tired
Huskies can go for a change all but Laura Zimmerman,
who's chasing end right now. Jones spins away from Zimmerman,
who's doing a great job to try and get the
(01:11:28):
puck free. Zimmerman falls to the ice loses her stick.
Badger still can't get out of the zone, though Scannal
turns it over, picked up by sreal Alice Sorel up
the middle, her pass gets deflected off the skate of McCarthy.
She drops it off for Zimmerman, shot to the point,
deflected in front and then picked up behind the net
by Jungles. Pykaelian in the corner sends it across McCarthy.
(01:11:54):
It's poked free by Peon Badger's can finally clear the
zone only as far as Sophia on a sunderling for
the Huskies freshly on the ice for Saint Cloud. Mcnont
nearly turns it over to someone as well. Gotta be careful,
Huskies keep the zone. Shot blocked by Scannal up ahead
is sundling, a shot deflected wide of they go the
(01:12:16):
rebound and the net has been dislodged. We get a whistle.
Speaker 13 (01:12:19):
Now the Huskies have had the puck possession in our
defensive zone for quite a while here, and I think
we've got to find ways to make our breakout a
little easier. I don't know if we're forcing stuff or what,
but we are turning the puck over prior to clearing
the zone and it ends up with a long term
buck possession for the Huskies.
Speaker 4 (01:12:39):
In our end. And now we're waiting a time out
called by Mark Johnson.
Speaker 13 (01:12:45):
I think I think he's going to discuss just what
I mentioned there. You know, they know better than that,
and they're just they're they're making difficult choices and choosing
the wrong ones, and as a result, we're not allowed
to clear the puck out of the zone.
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
Up there you go, So Badger's lead to nothing. With
twelve fifteen to go in the second period, we're gonna
take a quick break. We'll be right back in thirty

Speaker 10 (01:13:30):
At one point, APR Freptice seventy two months on a
twenty twenty six Volvo X forty at Fields Vobo Cars Madison.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Hey, you want to hear some great news broadcasting live
from the Angel Heard Motorsports Studio, your local Polaris off
Road headquarters. This is WTSL Madison ten to seventy the game.
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
Based off now to the right of Ava mcnonton. After
that Badger time on. We'll see if that thing changes
things for Wisconsin. Harvey long pass up ahead, hits the
skate of Eden and it's turned over to Sunderland and
then it's trickled into the Saint Cloud bench.
Speaker 13 (01:14:11):
Sure coach had some useful information for him there and
hopefully they will heed his advice.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
Yeah, and of course we strive for perfection being up
to nothing but still taking a time out, being like, hey,
it's been a while, but let's go back and play
the hockey. We know how to play.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Don't mean to get greedy, but you're capable of more.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Right, exactly exactly, Marion Picard and Peyton Holloway on the draw.
Picard wins that Harvey at center ice picks it up.
Skating in the zone on the left side. Harvey into
the corner seat looking for Eden, but she fann on
the shot. Sims in the corner finds Eden, rips the
shot deflected wide, but Card tried to get a handle
(01:14:49):
on it. Seeing a new line out for the Badgers.
It's Sims Picard and taking a whack at it, and
a husky loses their stick. So a little makeshift power play,
if you will, for the Badgers. Edwards to Sims left circle,
skating to the middle sides it across. Harvey just misses
(01:15:10):
the net and Edwards keeps it in at the left point.
Here's Picard now in the corner. Picard being pressed up
against the boards there by Sidney Lamb. Now here's Sims
in the corner left corner, taken away by Lamb. And
Remick can clear. Will it reach for icing, Yes it will,
so the tired Huskies so we're going to the bench
(01:15:32):
have to retreat and stay on the ice. But I
tell you what I like seeing Picard on the first line.
She had seven assisted season, no goals. She almost caught
one there.
Speaker 13 (01:15:40):
Yeah happened there, didn't She She did creating good plays
and going to the net hard, winning her face offs.
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
She's a spark out.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
There and talking about lineup change. That second line getting
a change too. Cassie Hall, Gorbatenko and Charlotte Pekinhagen who
was on that fourth line now coming in for Maggie's scan.
Speaker 13 (01:16:01):
Pekinhagen's got one speed and it's hard. You know, she'll
go to the net hard. She'll back check hard.
Speaker 3 (01:16:07):
She doesn't do anything half speed.
Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
You know. Haul's in a lot of space up ahead
if she can get the buck, and she does, but
then it's turned over.
Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:16:16):
Now Hall picks it up at center ice once again.
Cassie Hall stick handling, takes a couple of deflections, finds
Kelly gorbotenco in the corner, dispossessed there by Wolf Murphy
keeps the zone for the Badgers for Botenko whacking it
away from Zimmerman, but she gets it free. Here's Peon,
I'm ahead to Sorreal nice bat of midair by Peak
(01:16:39):
and Hoggins stick handles as well and stays with it.
Makes the play to find Potter, who gets checked hard
near the blue line.
Speaker 3 (01:16:46):
No wisk to Kip.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
Check there but yeah no whistle.
Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
Yeah, letting him play.
Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
And here is scandal now scandal to wrap around. Save
made by chowback Scannal back out there now is peeking
Hogen take the seat. We don't see that too often.
A Scannell right back in the second line.
Speaker 13 (01:17:06):
He's just juggling him around a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:17:11):
Try some new things here, and of course that that
first line switch proved to work out pretty well. Yeah
at the point. Now is morn collecting it is Krueger
in the left corner in the badger zone for the Huskies.
Now Here is Jackal. Jackal being pestered there by Jones,
gets away from Jones, gets away from Hall as well.
(01:17:32):
Now here's Lamb tight angle pass in front, deflected and
hitting the glass there to collect it is n Right
trying to clear the zone, gets it around to Mackenzie.
Jones Badgers still can't clear the zone. Moran at the
point still with it, rips a shot blocked in front
by Jackal, her own teammate. Now Scannal can look to
(01:17:52):
clear and the Badgers finally can haul in need of
a line change, She'll go on the bench. But here
come the Huskies again. Krueger Jack full oft shot with
sailing wide with gloved up anyway by McNaughton, and I
much needed change for the rest of those Badgers.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Yeah there again. You know that neutral zone.
Speaker 13 (01:18:09):
We got to manage to puck go and allow those turnovers.
They just transition, bringing it back in and giving themselves
another chance.
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
And the Badgers lead to nothing with nine oh two
remaining on the second period. We're gonna take another quick
break back in thirty.
Speaker 14 (01:18:27):
Everyone deserves to be connected.
Speaker 21 (01:18:29):
That's why T Mobile and US Cellular are joining forces.
Switch to T Mobile and save up the twenty percent

Check the math at T mobile dot com slash switch
and now T Mobile is in US Cellular stores.
Speaker 22 (01:18:47):
Savings versus comfortable for Rizon plants plus the cost of
optional benefits plant features and Texas and p's Berry Savings
with three plus lines include third line free VAM up
and build credits, credit stop if you can't le any
lines qualifying credit required.
Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
And welcome you back with the band of Saint Cloud
State playing to the front left of us Drainie and
uh student section not as busy as we expected. They
call it the dog pound and it can fill up.
Speaker 3 (01:19:18):
But uh maybe some people are working a little late
on Friday. I don't know.
Speaker 13 (01:19:21):
But uh, yeah, we got them, like you said, we
got the husky.
Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Band here, so creating a little energy.
Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
Yeah, keeping things alive for Saint Cloud State were.
Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
Horn section, good horn section exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:19:36):
Yeah, not too bad, not too bad at all, a
lot of different instruments there got a flute as well.
I didn't expect to see that, but yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:19:43):
Anyway, well here we go, based off to the left
to Avan McNaughton.
Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
Marian Piccard wins the draw and it's picked up by
Vivian Jungles behind the net being pressured there by Mouston
and Harvey. Turned over there Jungles a move to make
moose it in a shot and right on into the
w of Ava mcnott. Not the best shot there, but
you were talking about it earlier, Greeny. But the turnovers
(01:20:10):
in Dodger.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
Zone, we you know, we gotta make make the simple choice.
Speaker 13 (01:20:14):
If there's no other alternative or no options are there,
just up and off the glass, get it up and
out of the zone.
Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
Just chip it by that.
Speaker 13 (01:20:20):
Defenseman and then you'll have a forward swinging from the
wide side that can go pick it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Up, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
Face off one by chapaval a Vova on a line
with Gorbatenko and sims Now, so really mixing things up.
Here's Gorbatenko staying on side. Gorbatenko centering pass, was looking
for Shappy couldn't find her. Sims Now in the left corner,
skating to the left circle now to the left point,
slides it up to jungle Jungles, takes a shot why
(01:20:49):
to the goal, gets by Chappo val a Vova. As
the Badger's try and keep the zone, and they do,
sims gets taken down by Sorrel. Shappie picks it up
in the corner, gets taken down as well, but stays
with the puck. Gorbatenko there to come to her aid.
All three forwards in the corner there for the Badgers.
Sims Now spins away left circle has it all alone,
(01:21:10):
skating behind the net looking for a centering pass, trying
to find Morwitenko, but Chowback read it nicely.
Speaker 13 (01:21:15):
Yeah, it was a tricky little pass here from Sims.
You know she's got that good hands and can stick
handle pass. Knock to pussing a broom closet. Practically she's
gave Gorbo something to work with right on.
Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
The doorstep there, exactly. Good saved by troll Back.
Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
And Kelly Gorbatenko, who just had her longest goal streak
of her career ended against Minnesota in that first game,
ended up getting on the score. Sheheet again for the
Badgers in that second game against the Gophers. She's been
red hot as well as that entire second line with
Cassie Hall of course, and then Maggie Scannell as well.
Because that one's dumped into the Husky zone chasing it
is en Right getting their first as lamb for Saint
(01:21:52):
Cloud State, picked back up by en Right though Halverson
trying to get it free.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Good for checking by Enright, and.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
It's Scannal, Scannel, Enright and Halverson on a line now together.
Haven't seen much of Hannah Halverson. She started on that
fourth line with Zillish and peking Hogen earlier on. Here's
Murphy staying on side on the left side, behind the
back pass to find Halverson to find Scannal at the
left point, gives it right back to Halberson. It skips
(01:22:22):
over her stick a clearing attempt to Scanneal, collides with
the referee and it falls free for Krueger for the Huskies.
Here's Labbe up ahead to Krueger at center. Ice dumps
that one down, goes for a change. New lines out
for both teams. Murphy Scanneal finds McCarthy. Scannel can go
(01:22:45):
to the go make a change. Now complete that new
line Jones on for Murphy. Here comes Moran skating up
the middle, moving to the right side, drops it off.
Farrell is shot wide of the goal right off the bench.
Now comes Wolf to make the play. It comes free
Farao in front of shot save. They're rebound right yeah,
(01:23:07):
right there. Man quick for McNaughton to react, and she
does so. Husky's keeping the zone Faral again looking for
a third attempt, slides it across the shot hits the crossbar.
Sofiana Sunderland was millimeters away. I guess from putting the
Huskies on the board here in the second period. Wow,
(01:23:30):
a goalie's best friend.
Speaker 13 (01:23:31):
Now, yeah, no kidding, smoke them if you got them,
or something about those pipes, right, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:23:35):
Right, nice move around McCarthy. His peon makes another nice move,
takes a shot deflected wide of the goal. Badgers can't
get it clear. Holloway turn on past shot in front,
save made from the shot from Remick.
Speaker 13 (01:23:50):
See, they're getting too many opportunities here. You are getting tight,
they're maintaining possession of the puck.
Speaker 4 (01:23:56):
Shot in front doesn't get all the way through and
then it's clawed back in. Yeah by mcnonton, But you
were just saying, Greenie, a lot of shot at ten
for the Huskies. Badgers weren't able to clear. It's an
issue we saw pre time out and now we're seeing
it for the first time post time out.
Speaker 13 (01:24:10):
Yeah, i'd like you know, and I don't know if
they're trying to forced off for just a little anxious
or what here, But you know what, you got to
keep it simple, like I was said earlier, shouldn't allow
that much time to have fuck possession her own in.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
That's right, face off one by the Huskies. They keep
the zone, sims Is gonna chase it on the right
circle and back behind the Badger. Or Nette slides it across,
trying to get it out of the zone of the Badgers,
and they do, but they can't keep possession. Right back
in on the left side is Zimmerman skating behind the net,
centering past shot at ten from a tight angle. Save
made another shot wide of the goal, and it's the
(01:24:45):
same line for Saint Cloud State that we've seen. Sorreal
Madame Mikaelian behind the net, still with it, so Real
trying to get it free. She picks it up in
the right corner. Lamb keeps it in the zone for
Saint Cloud State. Shot from the point of reflected wide
of the goal, picked up by Krueger. Now in the corner.
Krueger doesn't have an option at the point, so she
(01:25:06):
gives it away to Harvey. Badger's on the counter attack.
Do they have enough left in the tank here on
this line? Here's Harvey up the middle, Harvey still with
it backhander skull. Yeah, Caroline Harvey oh second goal of
the game for Caroline Harvey, third from a Wisconsin Blue liner,
and after the Huskies were dominating Wisconsin. The backers get
(01:25:27):
out of the zone and Harvey scores well.
Speaker 13 (01:25:29):
And that play started in our own end in the
defensive zone in the mid slot. Harvey read a pass
and stepped up, picked it off, pushed it up ahead
to a teammate to headman the puck in the neutral zone,
gets it back, winds in and to her backhand and
fires in a goal. Now we haven't seen a forward
score yet today, we have not on our team. And
it's fifteen minutes into the second period, and a great
(01:25:53):
goal and effort by Harvey.
Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
Absolutely. Conversely for Saint Clouds, say it after hitting the
crossbar and then getting a couple of more chances giving
up a goal right after that, it's just brutal for the.
Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
Yeah, yes, that's that's a deflator for them, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:26:08):
Maggie Scanneal colliding with a husky and here comes Gorbtenko.
Now on the zone on the right side. Gorbtenko behind
the net, centering pass. Nobody there in white. Now here's
Scannal left side, centering pass looking for Pocard. It comes
free for Potter, a shot go over to the goal.
Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
Yeah, backhander from the slot.
Speaker 4 (01:26:27):
Looking for another blue liner goal for the battess tonight.
Speaker 13 (01:26:30):
Yeah, it's defenseman night on the scoring Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26:35):
And it's shoveled up ahead for Edwards to collect in
our own zone. Edwards tried to find Gorbtenko that will
go down front icing with three point fifty eight. We're
going to take our final quick thirty second break of
the period. We'll be right back.
Speaker 12 (01:26:51):

Speaker 4 (01:27:26):
And right after the break, Layla Edwards got hammered and
draws another penalty. She's the one that drew the first
interference penalty which resulted in a Wisconsin power play, and
she does it again, and I believe that's going to
be Laura Zimmerman going to the box for Saint Cloud
State YEP. That's her seventh penalty of the season. It'll
be powerplay minutes twenty four and twenty five for Laura
(01:27:50):
Zimmerman in the box quite a bit.
Speaker 13 (01:27:51):
Well, we've got one power play goal today, I think,
and let's see if we can convert on another. Uh,
you got to really rack somebody to knock the sticks
out of the hand of Leela Edwards.
Speaker 4 (01:28:01):
She was kidding.
Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
She's a strong athlete.
Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
Six foot one, big body, gets knocked down, but again
draws the penalty, so it works. Yeah, Badger's power play
over thirty percent this season, best in the w c
h A incredible numbers there. And we'll see if they
can get another goal here and extend the lead to four.
Here's Shapovalova to Sims at the left point. Now Harvey
(01:28:25):
up the middle, across to Edwards. Edwards a shot hits
the iron and it hit the post. It hit the post,
then went up and out of the play and then
it I think, I don't think it hit the net.
I think it hit one of these rungs here. Yeah,
that's how Hio went.
Speaker 13 (01:28:40):
Yeah, she sets up on that off wing. You know
she's a right hander. She sets up on the left
wing like play for that one timer. Heck of a shot.
Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
Scored from the power scored from that exact spot on
the power play against Minnesota last year. Yeah, and nearly
does it again, same line staying on the ice for
the Badgers. Oh, under the stick of Caroline Harvey and
the Badgers have to set up again. But very rare
miscue there from Caroline Harvey. Badgers have it right back in.
Harvey looking for a hat trick? Can she get one here?
(01:29:10):
Throws one toward the goal and a good defensive play
made by Grace Wolf, but she can't clear it. Sims
in the corner at the right point drops it off
for Edwards. Edwards to the middle to Harvey. Harvey to
Edwards chance now in the circle, shoots it wide. Can
Harvey keep it in? Yes she can At the right point.
(01:29:31):
Sims sets up on the right side, going to the corner,
spinning away. Good defensive play made by Yuriola and then
Eaton gets it right back for Wisconsin though now Sims.
Sims finds Harvey up the middle. Harvey to Edwards. Edwards
at the circle blocked in front and by Folked, but
Edwards stays with it. Huskies are tired across the sims
(01:29:52):
toe drag shoots, hits the iron again. Oh man, And
now the Huskies can clear the zone finally and go
for a change.
Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Oh man.
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
But wow, two posts on one shift on one power play.
That was.
Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
Really a heck of a shot thereby Simms.
Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
Yeah, that was her classic toe drag moves.
Speaker 13 (01:30:15):
Yeah, yeah, to give herself space and get the shot off.
Speaker 4 (01:30:19):
Fifteen seconds remain in the power play. Is there time
for the Badgers to get one more chance? Here on
the player advantage, here's Cassie Hall with speed on the
left side, driving to the net, centering past Gorba Tanco
who by Chowback.
Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
That was a great sieve. Man.
Speaker 13 (01:30:39):
Paul come down the left wing and slides a pass
right into the slot where Gorbatankle was standing and boom,
great save by cho Back.
Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
Yeah, and just not the placement that Kelly wanted on
that shot. Tried to pick a corner and found the center.
Yeah of Choback's jersey. But so far they've survived this
player advantage. Just two seconds remain, so if a goal
were to would come for Wisconsin, it would not be
on the power play. As out of the box comes
Zimmerman as the Badgers can maintain the zone for now.
(01:31:11):
Back at even strength are the Huskies, and they do
get possession. Here's Peon, I'm ahead to Feral. Feral still
with it at center ice, shovels that one down behind
the goal and into the corner. Sunderland picks it up,
being pressed up against the boards by Murphy, slides it along.
Scannal is gonna get there and poke it away, but
it's kept in by the Huskies. Here's Sunderland centering past
(01:31:34):
the score man Avery Faral.
Speaker 5 (01:31:41):
And with a minute and ten seconds left in the
second period, the Huskies get on the board and it's
the second goal of the season for the Minnesota native
Avery Faral.
Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
And that's an unfortunate turnover.
Speaker 13 (01:31:54):
Yeah, yone, you hate to give up a goal with
a minute ten left in a period there, and it
was a heck of a play.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
We failed to get it out of the zone.
Speaker 13 (01:32:02):
And then they took it by the blue line at
the right point and walked it in diagonal pass to
the back door, right in the doorstep, and the blue
paint thing tipped it in for a goal.
Speaker 4 (01:32:12):
So there you go. And now we're hearing the loudness
of the few here at the Brooks Center.
Speaker 13 (01:32:20):
Yeah, let's see if we can get it together here
for in the last minute.
Speaker 4 (01:32:26):
Yeah, as that one gets shoveled to the net, Ava
McNaughton will gobble that one up. And with fifty four
point two seconds left in the second period, the Badgers,
who have dominated this game so far, give up a
tough one right before the break.
Speaker 13 (01:32:41):
But that's one of those examples in like we were
saying earlier, they're always in it, you know, they don't
go away, and regardless of shots on goal, it's a
tight game.
Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:32:51):
Another shot attempt, this time it's blocked by Claire enright thankfully,
and but Card gets it out of harms way to Jungles,
who has it behind the Badger. Now here's Harvey long
past the fine book. Card three on two for the Badgers.
But Card on the right side takes a shot turned
away by Chowback and Harvey picks it up. Final thirty
in the period, Zimmerman gets in front of that and
(01:33:13):
it goes out of the zone. Harvey has to just
dump it down to lay it off side so Lamb
will be there to pick it up for the Huskies.
Lamb has it again behind the net being pestered by
and right Lamb shovels that one along and the Huskies
clear the zone. Sundoland picks it up, gets it down
for a dump, no icing it took a deflection. Final
(01:33:34):
five minutes, Harvey sends that one up ahead delayed, icing
will there be time they blew the whistle the time expires,
I can't imagine we're gonna be taking that face off. No,
and that'll do it for the second period with the
Badger's leading by a store of three to one and Greeney,
I mean, what did you see in that second period?
Speaker 13 (01:33:53):
Well, we we struggled to clear the puck out of
our own end or breakout's got to tighten up a
little bit, make some simple, wiser choices, and I'd like
to see one of our forwards put it in today.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
We don't have a forward that scored yet. We'll see
if we can change that.
Speaker 4 (01:34:09):
In the third, we will see Venusio and Harvey with
two all Blue liners scoring for Wisconsin. We'll take a
quick break. We'll be right back for the intermission. Report

customers since nineteen seventy one. We've yet to see a
forward score for the Badgers in today's game. Emma Venusio
got things started off in the first period for the Badgers.
(01:36:50):
Whe they're just her second career goal, excuse me, your
second goal this season, just her third career goal in
her young Wisconsin career. And then captain Caroline Harvey gets
gold number seven and goal number eight, so two defensemen
combining for the three Badger goals. But then very late
in the second period, the Huskies got on the score
(01:37:12):
sheet and it was Avery Ferrell, the forward, getting her
second goal of the season. She mostly has the assists,
she has six assists on the season, and of course
just those two goals, but she gets a much needed
goal for the Huskies, cutting the deficit down to just two,
which is very important. Now going back to the rankings,
as I said earlier on in the first intermission, taking
(01:37:33):
a look at that two to one game between Harvard
and Yale. Seven minutes to go in the third period,
Harvard have a three to one lead against Yale, so
this is looking pretty good. It's the same score. It's
an identical score in that game as it is in
today's game. But of course, losing to the number one
team versus losing to an unranked team is very, very different,
as we all know. So this is looking good for
(01:37:53):
Saint Cluid State. Nonetheless, if you want to look at
it that way, if you're looking for a positive for
Saint Cloud State. As far as possibives go for the Huskies,
there isn't much. They've played much better in the second
period than they did in the first. It's not saying
a whole lot, but they've done a decent job. Of course,
letting up those two goals to Caroline Harvey not what
you want to do, one of them being on the
power play, which, of course the Badger's having the best
(01:38:15):
power play over thirty percent this season. On the player advantage,
they go to the box, Harvey scores a goal and
just like that, the Badgers double their lead. So not
the best, but other than that, they did a decent job.
They were getting a lot of shots on net. Now
I talk to you in the first intermission and telling
you guys about how they were getting a lot of
shot attempts, but many of them were sailing wide or
(01:38:35):
going over the net. Now that's still happening in the
second period, but they're finding Ava mcnonton a lot more.
But that has forced the Badgers to make some changes,
and they're getting a lot of skates on the shots
and getting their sticks in front of the net and
blocking shots out in front. So when the Huskies aren't
shooting in wide, perhaps they're just shooting it into Badger defenders.
So they've done a great job defensively Wisconsin stopping Ava
(01:38:58):
mcnotton having too busy of a night now. She has
many shutouts this season, but tonight will not be one
of them because of Avery Ferrell's goal. But the Badgers
who have switched up a lot of things. We saw
an interesting time out being taken by Mark Johnson in
the second period. You don't often see a coach take
a time out when your team is up to nothing
in the second period, but that's exactly what we saw.
(01:39:20):
And right out of that timeout, I'm not sure we
saw the same lines for the Badgers more than once
or more than twice for the remainder of that second period.
Completely switched things up, took shapovale Vova off the first line,
was putting Scannell on the third line, putting Sims on
a line with Gorbatenko and Hall putting Pekin Hogen, who
(01:39:42):
was on the fourth line doesn't get much playing time
that fourth line. She was able to move up to
that second line as well, Hannah Halberson getting some more
minutes as well. We didn't see the on paper fourth
line too much in that period. We didn't see Zillish
at all, but we did see of course Halverson and
pekinhag so interesting. As we know, Mark Johnson likes to
(01:40:02):
switch up the deep pairings a lot, as he continued
to do so here in the second period. It was
interesting to see that he changed up the forward lines
quite a bit because they were just giving the puck away.
They were giving the Huskies gifts in the Badger's zone,
they were turning it over. It was resulting in a
lot of shots obviously, like I said, Badgers were getting
a lot of blocks as well in mcnott and of
(01:40:23):
course making some great saves too. But the Badgers were
just giving it away. So they take the time out.
You come out of the timeout plan a lot better.
But then you know, seven or eight minutes go by
toward the end of that second period and here come
the Huskies again, just controlling the zone. As if it's
a power play. Now, we use that term a lot
on these Wisconsin broadcasts, like, oh, it's five on five,
(01:40:44):
but the Badgers are playing like they're on a power play.
We've never really used it against Wisconsin. They don't normally
look like they're playing shorthanded like they did late in
that second period. As I hope you guys can still
hear me over the band. I can barely hear myself.
Were right next to the band. It's not and I placement,
but anyway, so yeah, anyway, so they were turning the
puck over a lot in the zone late in that
(01:41:06):
second period. Of course, one of those resulting in that
Saint Cloud goal. So a lot of things to fix
up to the Badgers, especially against Saint Cloud. It's only
a two shot game here. Saint Cloud one of the
best third period teams, I would say their second or
third best third period team in the WCHA. Of course,
the Pagers are the best, so this is going to
be best on best, I assume in the third period,
(01:41:27):
but lots of hockey to play, twenty more minutes remaining
in regulation, shifting gears a little bit over the rivalry series,
and then we talked about it quite a bit on
the broadcast during the game, but we saw Lacey Eden,
Layla Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Ava McNaughton, and Kirsten Simms go
to the Rivalry Series and represent Team USA. It is
thought that those players will be gone for the Olympic break.
(01:41:51):
They will be playing in Italy in the winter, which
means the Badgers are going to be heavily shorthanded. That's
without your two best defenders, your starting goaltend, your leading
point producer, and Lacey Eden, who of course has been
on that first line for every game this season. Not
to mention, the Badgers are going to have to play
against Ohio State. Granted, Ohio State does have players going
(01:42:13):
to the Olympics as well, but of course this is
going to be a tough one for the Badgers. We're
a long way from there. We want to talk about
the Rivalry Series. Leila Edwards, we weren't even sure she
was going to play in the Rivalry Series. We didn't
know when she was gonna come back. She had a
very bad looking knee injury a few weeks ago, miss
some time, was on crutches for a bit, did not
travel with the team during those away trips when she
(01:42:35):
was hurt and was able to get back into practice
and come back against Minnesota, which is a tough series
to come back to, playing against the third now second
best team in the nation, tough return for her as
they lost five to one with her on defensive course,
she looked a bit slow, didn't look one hundred percent.
And then even in that second game, I will say
Leila Edwards did not look one hundred percent. She was
(01:42:55):
able to score in the power play luckily, but I'll
tell you what. The difference between tonight and last game
in last series against Minnesota is night and day. Leila
Edwards now looks to be at one hundred percent. She
needed that. I don't even want to say off week
because she had to play in those games with Team USA,
but just that time to get back to being in
the lineup and getting used to things. She looks a
(01:43:16):
heck of a lot better tonight, I'll tell you that.
So it looks like the Laila Edwards that we know
is back and better than ever. Now. The Badgers had
a chance to match up against some of their former
teammates for some not for the younger players, but Hillary Knight, Brittack, Curl,
Jesse Kompfer, Case O'Brien, and Anna Wilgrin. All five of
those players former Badgers, were playing for Team USA. In fact,
(01:43:38):
Hillary Knight, of course one of the best Wisconsin Badgers
of all time before my time as an announcer here
at the University of Wisconsin, but of course I grew
up watching her a bit with the national team man
with Wisconsin scored a hat trick in one of those
rivalry series games. So a lot of Badgers getting on
the score sheet for Team USA this weekend, and it's
looking bright for the Olympics or a couple months away
(01:44:01):
from that. So we'll get back to the WHA. I
had a chance to talk to freshman defender Mackenzie Jones
ahead of this weekend series at practice on Tuesday. She
was the extra extra skater for tonight's game after playing
some more time due to some injuries last series. And
take a listen to that interview. We'll be right back,
or you'll listen to the head interview now with Mackenzie Jones.
(01:44:24):
Aiden Michael's here with Mackenzie Jones. McKenzie, obviously, it's your
freshman year here after quite a successful time in high
school being the captain of your team. What has the
jump been like for you starting in high school and
then coming to play D one for the top team
in the nation.
Speaker 23 (01:44:39):
It's definitely been a big change, having a new environment
with different players. Have never played with any of these
girls before, so that was definitely a big change. But
the speed and intensity of the game is definitely ramped
up way more than.
Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
High school and in of course the young season so far.
What have you learned about yourself but also about the
game since playing for D one Wisconsin in the WHA.
Speaker 23 (01:45:05):
That everyone around me is insane and that you got
to take it day by day and do the little
things to get yourself better and better because the girls
next to you and girls on other teams are also
doing the little things, so you gotta keep going every day.
Speaker 4 (01:45:22):
You said your biggest role models are your parents. What
role did they play to help you get into the
game of hockey when you were younger?
Speaker 23 (01:45:28):
I think working for everything that I do, nothing's given,
it's earned. So putting in the little time of stickhandling, shooting,
and like having time management with her, it's school hockey relationships.
Speaker 4 (01:45:45):
What age did you start playing hockey yet?
Speaker 23 (01:45:47):
I actually started way later. I started at eight years old,
So I started in second grade, and I actually started
because my dad wanted me to learn to skate because
we're in Minnesota, like got to learn how to skate,
but you're doing learned skates. And then I saw that
girls played hockey, like our high school team was on
ice practicing. I was like, oh, my gosh, I want
to play hockey now.
Speaker 4 (01:46:09):
So and I don't know if if your parents then
talk to you about this or if this is something
you saw, but obviously starting later at age eight, which
is still pretty young but compared to a lot of
other players a bit older, at what point did you realize, Okay,
like I'm good enough not only to become a successful
player in high school, but good enough to take it
to the next level and play at D one.
Speaker 23 (01:46:27):
Yeah. I think when I started, everyone was so much
better than me, and I always just wanted to work
to get as good at them, as good as them,
or if not better. And I think it was around
like eight years old I was getting like compliments from
like pretty high level coaches and they're like, you got
to just keep working hard, and like your ceiling can
(01:46:49):
go as high as you want it to go. So
I think from that moment on, I just kind of
kept pushing myself and set goals for myself.
Speaker 4 (01:46:57):
And yeah, obviously your parents being a big model. Did
you have any players that were your big role models
growing up, whether it was someone older than you that
you played with or a professional player or anything like that,
not to put you on the spot.
Speaker 23 (01:47:11):
Yeah, but no, definitely I met she actually came here
and played here. But I looked up to Molly Engstrom,
and I think just her whole process as a defender
and her career was amazing, and she was just one
that I really looked up to. Also, Megan Keller. I
(01:47:33):
love the way she plays on the blue line and
her shot is insane.
Speaker 4 (01:47:37):
There you go, and then obviously Molly Engstrom being the
head coach at may Ande, you guys had a chance
to play them here at Madison. How special was that
for you?
Speaker 23 (01:47:44):
That was really special because she also did She also
just got inducted to the Hall of Fame, I think too,
So it was pretty special having such a big alumni
in the house like that on my first like home
game too.
Speaker 4 (01:47:58):
That's really awesome. Now, obviously you guys had the bye
week as far as games go, getting the break because
of the rivalry series. What does that do for you
as far as rest and getting back in the swing
of things heading into this weekend's matchup against Saint Cloud State.
Speaker 23 (01:48:11):
Yeah, I think last week was a really big key
for us. We got to just take a break for
a second and focus on little things that we could
work on and keeping our conditioning up because games are
long and you got to keep playing one period at
a time, and we can get to the third period.
It's definitely who's more conditioned sometimes.
Speaker 4 (01:48:33):
All right, thank you, McKenzie, Thank you?
Speaker 8 (01:48:34):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:48:35):
Was that fun? And that was Mackenzie Jones great to
talk to her. Heead of practice on Tuesday, we are
here getting ready to start the third period at the
Herb Brooks National Hockey Center here in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
Brooks Center was renamed in honor of Herb Brooks in
(01:48:56):
twenty thirteen, just a decade after his passing in two
thousand and three, and Herbrook's obviously one of the most
iconic figures in all of hockey and of course in
the state of Minnesota. Now he coached here at the
university or at Saint Clouds State university in the late eighties,
and he coached for one season. One of those players
on his roster, twenty year old freshman Mike Hastings, a
(01:49:19):
name that might be familiar for you Badger fans, of course,
the current head coach of the men's hockey team at
the University of Wisconsin. So Mike Hastings, Mark Johnson both
an extension of the long Herb Brooks coaching tree. And
we're just about to get ready for puck drop to
start the third period. Aiden Michaels and Mark Greenhall here
(01:49:39):
with you on ten seventy the game. The Badgers lead
three to one, and of course all three of those
goals coming from Blue Liners.
Speaker 13 (01:49:47):
Yeah, it's defenseman night here at Herb Brooks Arena. Hopefully
we can protect our own end and generate some stuff here.
Speaker 4 (01:49:58):
And it would be daft to say that Saint Claus
out is in need of a miracle here, but they're
definitely in need of something in the final period.
Speaker 3 (01:50:04):
Yeah, they've shown signs of being capable of it, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
Very true, and they had a hot start in the
first and second periods. They did well. See what they
can do in the third. Badgers of course, looking for
a much better start behind the goal now is a
wolf for the Huskies up ahead, turned over a Chapavalivova
has it now for Wisconsin. Gets it to Sims. That
normal first line is back out for Wisconsin to start
things off. Sims being pressed up against the boards, it
(01:50:31):
comes free for chapavali Vova. Now Sim or excuse me,
Eden sends that one across four Sims. Sims skating to
the point, finds Harvey. Harvey rips the shot into the
glove of Jojo Choback and I'll tell you Harvey's looking
for a hat trick here.
Speaker 13 (01:50:45):
Yeah, the past she received was so close to the
blue line. I didn't even think she'd be able to
keep it in, but she did. It was kind of
an awkward angle and she got a shot off out
of the deal. So she can make something happen out
of nothing. She doesn't need much time or space, but
with all her abilities and create something.
Speaker 4 (01:51:01):
And by the looks of it, it seems like the
Badgers are going back to their normal lines that they
began the game with. So you've got gorbatenco Hall and
Scandal on that second line out for the Badgers. Edwards
and Potter the Blue liners out see if they can
get a goal too in the zone. Now is Mickelien
over to Uriola, taken by Hall into the corner of
the Badger's zone, picked up by Potter, Potter up ahead
(01:51:24):
to Hall haul at center ice, entering the zone on
the right side. Hall fanned on that pass and then
gave it away. Cleared away by Sorreal, skips over the
stick of Edwards. Here comes Mickellian toe dragon then getting
a stick in front to stop that from happening, was Potter.
Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
Yeah, nice d by Potter.
Speaker 4 (01:51:43):
She is so good on those one on ones.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
Too, isn't she use that long reach you know? Oh yeah,
stick on stick.
Speaker 4 (01:51:50):
Icing coming up if the nusio can touch up, and
she does so. In the first two periods, it was
the Badger's icing the puck in the first seven minute
and a half. Now it's the Huskies. Yep.
Speaker 13 (01:52:02):
Yeah, if you overpass somebody here, it's it's going on
for a week or so, you know, with all this
ice out here, it takes off and that thus the icings.
Speaker 4 (01:52:10):
Yeah, we could take one of our thirty second breaks
by the time that back hits the end boards at all.
Now Picard is just over fifty percent from the face
off circle and now now below fifty percent from the
face off circle tonight, unlike her.
Speaker 13 (01:52:28):
Yeah, she's typically real successful in the face off circle.
They want to turn the puck over there.
Speaker 4 (01:52:34):
Here's Holloway shot blocked in front, another turnover resulting in
a Saint Cloud State chance.
Speaker 13 (01:52:40):
So here, yeah, chip it up and out just like that.
There you go, And she did And what did we
do that?
Speaker 4 (01:52:45):
We got it out of the zone and just gets
called for offside. But yeah, that's all Emavians needed to do.
And yes, she did it and got out of the zone.
And that's something to the Badger's it's it sounds simple,
but the you know we've strangled doing that so far.
Speaker 13 (01:52:57):
Well, you know they're they're well coached team. You know,
if check your heart, you getting pressure, Okay, well I
don't have any anything I can do with it. What
do I do up and out the off the glass?
Speaker 4 (01:53:07):
Yeah, well coached indeed. Miry Yello Suo, as we talked
about in the pre game, she's a two time PWHL
champion an assistant over there in Minnesota, so she's quite
the coach. She's the woman you want to lead your
team if you're a Saint Cloud. Now a two on
one chance. Here's Sunderland, the pass across great stick there
(01:53:28):
from Venusio. Nice and Venusio who had a great game
going against Abby Murphy of Minnesota man stopping Saint Cloud
state superstar. So she on a Sunderland and look at
her getting out of that jam.
Speaker 3 (01:53:41):
Boy.
Speaker 13 (01:53:41):
She I mean that was a good two on one
that the Huskies had, and Venusio played it perfectly and
intercepted that pass by laying her stick down on the ice.
Speaker 4 (01:53:49):
And Venusio falling down but trying to make a play
still as she retreats back to center ice as the
Huskies pick it up. Stretch pass took a deflection off
of Murphy. So McNaughton will go out to grab the puck.
She'll just leave it for Murphy behind the net. Three
minutes gone here in the third period.
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
Show here we're making work of it. Now we're still
in our own end.
Speaker 13 (01:54:10):
We're behind our own net, and.
Speaker 3 (01:54:13):
You know, I just I wish we wouldn't make it
that difficult, that's all.
Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
Here's Sims behind the net for the Badgers in the
Husky zone. Lamb touches it along to get it around Hall.
Badgers keep the zone for now.
Speaker 3 (01:54:29):
Yep, good pressure along the wall there, we'll keep it
in deep.
Speaker 4 (01:54:33):
Harvey chucks it along, picked up behind the net. Buy
Zimmerman and now here's Labbe makes a nice move around Gorbatenko,
picked up by Jungles at center ice for Wisconsin. Now
here's Scannal up ahead to Hall. Cassie Hall takes a
shot up high on Chowback doesn't know where it is.
Puck is still loose. Gorbertenko whacking at it, trying to
get it free. And then it's picked up there by
(01:54:54):
your real.
Speaker 13 (01:54:55):
Yeah, Chowback made a knife save on the initial one
and juggled up high, and she didn't know where it was.
Speaker 4 (01:55:00):
Here's Krueger spinning away from Harvey, finds Sorrel makes a
nice move around Gorbtenko. Sorrel cycling has it at the
left circle, skating to the middle. At the point Sorrel's
still with it, there's a player without.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
A glove, Gorbels without a stick.
Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
It's a garage sale here at the Badger's old kidden
pass in front, deflected wide of the goal. Now here's
Bryant at the point takes a shot into the glove
of Ava McNaughton, and we'll get a whistle. Gorbatenko will
pick up her glove and I think it was Sorril
who skated to the bench with one glove.
Speaker 3 (01:55:40):
Yeah, there's stuff laying all over the ice.
Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
Here, so we'll clear the ice of all the debris
and we'll get a face off to the right of
Ava McNaughton. Fifteen forty two to go here in regulation,
Badgers lead three to one. They are closing in on
what would be their one hundredth victory against Saint Cloud
State in program history. Halloway and Picard on the draw.
(01:56:04):
Remick getting tied up there with the official comes free
now for Holloway, picked up by Edwards and then touched
along by McCarthy and then Picard at center ice. A
lot of pinballing happening in.
Speaker 3 (01:56:16):
The next don't even quite get that puck to settle down?
Speaker 4 (01:56:20):
Yeah, now chasing it into the Husky zone is Picard
being pressured there by Wolf pushes her along the boards.
It comes free. Now it's frozen back along the boards,
and then it comes free again, this time for Peyton
Holloway for the Huskies. Gets it up ahead to Remick,
beating her out there was Potter and gets it to Edwards,
(01:56:43):
up ahead to Picard, a heavy touch from her being
pushed off the puck by Peon and then picked up
by Zimmerman behind the goal Gorbuttenko's gotta let go, and
she does, just in time to not get a penalty. There.
Mcaellien skates away from McCarthy and from Potter, still Kellyan
to the net. Couldn't get the back hand way. Oh yeah, Zimmerman.
(01:57:05):
A shot up high, gloved by McNaughton. But that is
the line that you got to look out for.
Speaker 3 (01:57:09):
Yeah, they're potent, aren't they.
Speaker 13 (01:57:11):
Yeah they are nice glove saved by Ava there again,
they had somebody right on the doorsteps. So if there's
a rebound, you're gonna whack it in. I'm glad you
picked it clean.
Speaker 4 (01:57:21):
Now a face off to the left of Ava, chap
on the draw with Zimmerman and Shappy wins the draw
and gets it up to Murphy, skips over the stick
of Sims. She's gonna stay with it though somehow, Yeah,
Sims turning and then gets it poked away by Zimmerman.
(01:57:44):
Here comes Sorrial pass up ahead to Zimren on the
right side, stops up, spinning away Zimmerman's still with it
and then coming in front is Eden at the point.
Now is Brian across the morn taking a shot and
gloved up by McNaughton. And we talk about how good
of a third period team the Huskies are, and they're
showing it with quite a few shots on goal in
(01:58:05):
the opening a few minutes here they are.
Speaker 13 (01:58:07):
They're making situations pay off for him, pursuing the puck
hard and getting it to the net.
Speaker 4 (01:58:14):
So another face after the to come to the right
of Aba McNaughton, Yeah, Haul and Sunderland to take the
draw for their respective team.
Speaker 3 (01:58:24):
See if Cassie can win it. She does, he does.
Speaker 4 (01:58:26):
There you go. The jungles behind the net gets at
the Harvey stretch pass controlled by the shoulder of Scannal,
but she couldn't keep possession. Harvey's gonna try it again
this time finds the stick of Haul another heavy touch though,
so picking it up is morn or Potanco keeps it
in momentarily for the Badgers more and picks it right
(01:58:47):
back up though for the Huskies. And on that right
side is mor and tries the centering pass, still with it,
takes a shot blocked by jungle.
Speaker 3 (01:58:56):
By Jungles as always, yeah, exactly, She's with her all
the way through the slot.
Speaker 4 (01:59:02):
Sundolan picks it up at center ice Goorbatenko gets it
free to haul. Now here's KK Harvey up to Jungles
on that right side, entering the zone, stopping up at
the right circle, drops it off for Harvey, mishandle it,
but then picks it up in the corner Jungles. She
rips a shot.
Speaker 3 (01:59:20):
Deflected in front.
Speaker 4 (01:59:21):
And we get a whistle. Gorbutenko looking for a tip
out in front. And that's one of the tougher things
to do with being, you know, the big body of
Kelly Gorbatenko out in front, containing her and making sure
she doesn't with her long reach up get a tip
in front her.
Speaker 13 (01:59:35):
And McCarthy did a nice job of taking that goaltender's
eyes away on that shot from the out by the point.
Speaker 3 (01:59:42):
Nice job, good nut front presence.
Speaker 4 (01:59:45):
Picard on the draw. She wins it here McCarthy spins
away at the right circle along to Edward's at the
right point. Now Potter drips a shot deflected wide picked
up by Picard in the corner. Now chase it is
en right and Right skates it along to Potter, who
takes a shot and gloved up by Chowback. And every
(02:00:07):
defender wants a piece of the cake.
Speaker 3 (02:00:10):
Yeah, we're all getting in on the action here.
Speaker 4 (02:00:13):
And of course Leilah Edwards was an inch away hitting
the bar.
Speaker 1 (02:00:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:00:17):
Earlier on in the second period on the power play.
Speaker 13 (02:00:20):
Yeah, I'd like to see her one get her herself
a goal here tonight or this period's over for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:00:27):
Picard and Zimmerman duel in the circle. McCarthy right off
the draw, turned away by Chowback, and Zimmerman picks it
up in the corner and clears the zone for the Huskies.
Touched along by Uriola. Now here's Creal Soriol at the
left point, but Card trying to take it away. She
can't quite do it. Shot from Uriola is wide of
(02:00:50):
the goal and n Right can clear the zone. Tak
a touchdough. Here comes McCarthy now at two on one.
McCarthy trying to get it to Pacar, couldn't find her.
The second attempt blocked in front, and Potter kept the
zone for the Badgers. Here's Edwards. Edwards takes a shot,
block it away by chowback. Badgers still keep the zone
for now, and then it's cleared away off the glove
(02:01:13):
of pottern into the bench.
Speaker 3 (02:01:15):
You know that that series of shots was preceded.
Speaker 13 (02:01:18):
By somebody in our own end that just up and
out of the zone, off the glass and out, picked
it up in a neutral zone as the foreward was
swinging by pushed it in.
Speaker 3 (02:01:27):
We had several nice opportunities as a result. So I
think it just pays off to keep it simple sometimes,
you know, you want to sometimes do it harder, make
it harder on yourself than necessary.
Speaker 4 (02:01:37):
Yeah, Badgers try and regain the zone. Right after that
draw getting it free, there is Peon Peon up ahead
into neutral ice is Venusio for the Badgers. She dumps
that one down under twelve to go here in regulation
Badger's with a three to one lead. Wolf gets it
(02:01:58):
up to Folks spend folked and just trailing off side
there was Peyton Holloway.
Speaker 13 (02:02:06):
It was nice to see Venusio there. She's got improving
on her gap control. You know, she saw that forward
bringing it in the zone. She didn't back up like
she used to do. A few weeks ago, a month ago,
she just stayed right up to her, stepped up and
stripped her of the pot.
Speaker 4 (02:02:24):
She has been a key piece of this Badger team.
Speaker 3 (02:02:26):
You're not kidding, You're not kidding.
Speaker 4 (02:02:28):
In Badgers win the draw, Murphy gets to the peak
and Hogen had it lost on her skates, but she
picks it back up and then dumps it down and
controlling it with the stick. His chowback has to make
a decision, nearly turns it over. But here comes Folked
for Saint Cloud State at center ice. Now Here is
(02:02:48):
Moran spinning away from Pekin Hogen entering the zone. Now
on the left side and off side again go the
Huskies and not happy with that, I'll tell you it
was Peyton Remick for Saint Clouds State. So now we'll
get another face off outside the Badger's zone. Eleven eighteen
to go. Here in regulation, the Badgers on the cusp
(02:03:11):
of the thirty shots. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:03:12):
See if Scandal can win to dry here.
Speaker 4 (02:03:15):
Against Sunderland, and she scannel does with her skate, she
pushes it back. Now Here comes Harvey on the left
side with speed, Harvey behind the net, still with it,
skating to the right circle, finds Jungles rips the shot,
took it aflection wide of the goal. Chasing it in
the corner is Gorbatenko, peking Hogen trying to keep it
in the zone. It's picked up by Sunderland. Here's peaking
(02:03:37):
Hogen now in front, and it's saved by Chowback.
Speaker 13 (02:03:41):
I was hoping she could convert on that turnover there
right in front of the net.
Speaker 4 (02:03:45):
Yeah. Her only goal of her career was in her debut, Yeah,
against Minji State. Then she had that goal, we call
it in that icebreaker tournament in Schenectady, which I was
joking with Paul L. Lucas, who was on color for
that game. We saw the puck was in the net.
We saw the replay, but they say no goal, and
we're like, Charlotte's gotta be fuming about that.
Speaker 3 (02:04:03):
I wouldn't blame her.
Speaker 4 (02:04:04):
Yeah, almost gets on the score. Sheheet again McCarthy right
off the draw, blocked in front there by Uriola. Now
here come the Huskies Krueger centering pass. McCarthy can try
and get it away and she does. Three on two
Now for the Badgers. If Picard can hurry and right
(02:04:25):
looking down low for bicard out of her reach, but
she picks it up in the corner centering pass nobody there.
Potter has it at the point, takes a shot deflected
wide of the goal. Now the other point, it's Edward's
taking a shot deflected it brought, then pat it away
by Choe Back, and then a great defensive play made
by Jackal diving to get that one out of the zone.
(02:04:45):
McCarthy wants it at the blue line and she gets
it entering the zone, drops it off on the right
side for en Right. En Right rips the shot scull us.
Claire en Right absolutely finds the slot, gets it over
the shoulder of Choe Back and we've got a four
to one hockey game.
Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Oh that was a beautiful goal. Yeah, she just did
She received that from McCarthy.
Speaker 13 (02:05:07):
Yeah, I think soon just walked it in there a
few steps from the right point and fired a shot
through traffic to score.
Speaker 3 (02:05:14):
It was a great goal.
Speaker 4 (02:05:16):
Beautiful goal from Clara on Wright.
Speaker 3 (02:05:19):
Nice to see we needed that one.
Speaker 4 (02:05:20):
Oh yeah, her first goal since stopping from playing on
the first line. Obviously, she came and played on the
first line and was absolutely incredible. Added a few points,
added a couple of goals, gets her third goal this
season now from that third line, and it was all
created from Finley McCarthy, who gets her second assist of
the game. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:05:39):
Nice to see her getting in the you know, scorer
sheet a little bit.
Speaker 4 (02:05:43):
Oh yeah, and our first forward goal, yeah, of the
game for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (02:05:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (02:05:48):
Right, it's not gonna let the defenseman hog all the fun,
right exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:05:55):
He's of keeping it in his own man. Shappie still
has it, slides out one across good defensive play by
Peon and chasing it is Venusio. Huskies go for a change.
Venusio sends it up ahead to Eden. Eden centering pass
looking for Sims. Sims skating behind the net, Sims left circle.
Now Eden turning away at the left point, goes across
(02:06:19):
the Sims. They're just playing catch here todrak from Sims,
but then stopping that one was morn. Now here comes
Wolf for the Huskies on the right side. Badger going
down at center ice away from the place. Yeah, Shappie's
going down. Yeah, I mean, she just had that hand
injury a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 13 (02:06:38):
I hope she didn't fall in that hand or something,
you know, and aggregate that injury. That's just healing, not
even one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (02:06:44):
Yet, So we'll we'll keep you guys updated on that.
Speaker 3 (02:06:47):
She's sitting down there yet on the bench.
Speaker 4 (02:06:50):
She's definitely feeling it.
Speaker 13 (02:06:51):
Probably getting a look from the trainer there. I think
Steph is attending to her now yep.
Speaker 4 (02:06:56):
Meanwhile, the Huskies have a right back looking for an
odd player rush and hurry, but the Badgers are getting
back now picked up by Harvey. But then she gives
it away chance in the slot. Now behind the net
is Moustinen at the point. Now is Uriola slides it
across to Bryant. Bryant sends it behind the goal for
Holloway gets away from her and then picking it up
(02:07:18):
for Wisconsin. His scannal soo can get out of the zone,
tipped along by Gorbutenko, but it will go down.
Speaker 3 (02:07:23):
Yeah, it'll be nice.
Speaker 4 (02:07:24):
Yep. So eight seventeen to go here in regulation and
the Badger's lead for one now.
Speaker 3 (02:07:30):
Jeez, I hope uh Chappie's all right there? Yeah, I mean,
we'll see.
Speaker 13 (02:07:35):
See if she she's standing up now I think looking
a little better than earlier.
Speaker 4 (02:07:39):
That's good. Yeah, good sign, I will say I didn't
see much of it because it was behind it, but
she was on the ground, so obviously she took a
big hit.
Speaker 13 (02:07:47):
I didn't know if she fell on her right thumb
that was broke or something earlier or not, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:07:53):
But luckily she's staying on the bench. She seems to
be okay. We hope to see her out in a
couple of minutes. Here's scanning the right side up ahead
the Gorbtenko Orbtenko is shot saved by Choback and another
opportunity for KG. But again, she's not finding her spot
on the shots. She's getting into good opportunities. She wants
to keep scoring goals. She's been on quite a streak recently, Kelly.
(02:08:15):
She's got eight goals this season. Looking to get double
digits eventually, hopefully this weekend. But we'll see. We'll get
our media time out now. With eight oh five to
go in regulation, we're going to take a quick break
as well. We'll be right back in thirty.
Speaker 14 (02:08:28):
This is Paul Brown.
Speaker 12 (02:08:29):
Every day, Alzheimer's disease impacts millions of families, but at
the University of Wisconsin Madison, researchers are leading cutting edge

Speaker 4 (02:09:06):
Art and welcome back with four to one Badgers eight
and change to go in regulation and as the band
starts to play again here and saying clow, the Badgers
have extended their lead to three once again, much better period,
I would say.
Speaker 13 (02:09:22):
A great yeah, well, it was good to see one
of our forwards get on the scoreboard.
Speaker 3 (02:09:26):
That helps, you know, nice to see a fourth goal.
Speaker 13 (02:09:30):
And just what there was a little more, you know,
at least the last four or five minutes more puck
possession by us, and we've got to have more of that,
you know, you got to manage the puck.
Speaker 3 (02:09:39):
Uh, you don't want to turn it.
Speaker 4 (02:09:42):
Over McCarthy right off the draw, finds Potter at the point, Yeah,
goes download a Bacard, loses her edge, tries to stay
with it, can't quite do it. Zimmerman gets it away
and the zone is clear. Goes all the way back
for mcnontin, who's going to hang on to this puck?
The pressure there from Miku Allien. Yeah, I'll get a
face off now to the right of Ava McNaughton. Now
(02:10:05):
we will play again tomorrow at two pm here in
Saint Cloud right here on Sensivity the game with myself
and Greene. Of course, as always, I'll be doing the pregame,
intermissions and postgame as always, and we'll see if the
Badgers can hang on to this third period lead or
if we're in store for a late third period surge
from the Huskies. But with the way Wisconsin's playing, I
(02:10:26):
can't imagine McCarthy trying to beat out this icing and.
Speaker 3 (02:10:30):
Does wow, good hustle by McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (02:10:33):
Nicely done there from Finn and unfortunately can't keep possession,
but stops that face off from coming all the way back,
and they're keeping it in the zone, in the Badgers zone,
and yeah, they've still got it there. It goes into
the netting and now we're going to get a face
off in the Husky zone, I believe.
Speaker 13 (02:10:52):
Yeah, that was a heck of an effort thereby McCarthy.
I think it was to keep it in. Skated the
whole way and battled on the far end and kept
it in and prevented the icing.
Speaker 4 (02:11:04):
And like many of these players, I mean she started
playing hockey at age three. I mean some players, you know,
learned to skate before they learned to walk.
Speaker 13 (02:11:10):
So yeah, yeah, she's smooth skater. Shappy us back in there.
Speaker 18 (02:11:14):
Go.
Speaker 3 (02:11:14):
Good to see her healthy and back in the lineup.
Speaker 4 (02:11:16):
We love to see that and see if she can
get on the score sheet perhaps, Yeah, first time since
the injury. Here she is now making move. Oh, it
takes a big hits. She's gonna draw a penalty. Man.
Luckily she's quick to get up. But oh my goodness.
And I know she's not the biggest player, she's only
five to four, but she takes quite a few hits way.
Speaker 13 (02:11:35):
She really took a dropped. In fact, the official, yeah
was wondering, okay.
Speaker 4 (02:11:44):
Body checking penalty called? I mean yeah, official had their
arm up in the air before Shappy even hit the ice.
Speaker 3 (02:11:49):
Right, Yeah, that was a solid boom drop right in.
Speaker 4 (02:11:54):
Her rear and just looking at the replace, she just
turns and just just doesn't see her.
Speaker 3 (02:11:58):
Coming out the alien. The other game, all was pretty good,
size and you know, yeah, shoulders were about head high
and that's not a good match.
Speaker 4 (02:12:06):
But here we go. Power play again for Wisconsin. Sims
to Harvey, Harvey across one timer looking for Edwards wide
of the goal. Sims now behind the net to Eden.
Fans on the pass to Edwards, but it finds her
way anyway right back down low for Eden. Now here
is Sims takes a shot deflected wide, picked up on
(02:12:26):
the left side by Leyla Edwards down low under the
stick of Eden. Eden gets taken down zone is cleared.
It just gets by the hand of Caroline Harvey and
the Badgers will keep this first unit out as Harvey
picks it up behind the Badger goal. Will we see
a hat trick for Caroline Army. Now would be the
(02:12:49):
time on this power pla. Edwards now moving in, makes
a nice move, gets it to the corner and backhands
it to the right point to Sims up the middle
of Harvey. Here is Harvey download Edwards. Will she get
it back nice past the Simms takes a shot. Why
scores Kirsten Simms.
Speaker 3 (02:13:10):
That was a big time goal.
Speaker 4 (02:13:11):
Oh yeah, nearly knocks the gatorade bottle off the top
of the goal.
Speaker 3 (02:13:16):
She walks it into the slot.
Speaker 13 (02:13:18):
She's a right hander and she just reared back and
whipped a hard wrister just over the glove up in
the corner for goal number five in.
Speaker 3 (02:13:26):
The night Huh.
Speaker 4 (02:13:27):
Yeah, And what a fine from Leyla Edwards passing that
one across the slot. Yeah, finding sims and she's a sniper.
She's not gonna miss that.
Speaker 3 (02:13:34):
She is a sniper. She's got some good accuracy going on.
Speaker 4 (02:13:39):
And the nightmare continues for Saint Cloud State.
Speaker 13 (02:13:45):
Well, there was some good puck possession that preceded that goal,
and that was nice to see instead of some turnovers
and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (02:13:53):
And the red hot power play as well for the
Badgers continues to work.
Speaker 3 (02:13:56):
Wonders set the second power play goal.
Speaker 4 (02:13:59):
Yes it was.
Speaker 3 (02:14:00):
I'll take that.
Speaker 4 (02:14:00):
So staying over thirty percent on the face there in
the power play unit, I mean, that's an incredible steve.
I mean thirty percent. We don't see a number over
twenty five percent very often.
Speaker 3 (02:14:10):
Oh typically, you do not.
Speaker 4 (02:14:12):
You know, it reminds us of the Edmonton Oilers power
play from a couple of years ago with McDavid and Drysdle.
It's like, that's essentially what we have here in Madison. Yeah,
Badgers have it in their own zone. It's peaking Hoggin
shovels that one out the Peon and then finally gets
it out. Peon had a nice play to keep that
(02:14:33):
puck in the zone. Yeah, fooled me. Krueger lost it.
Potter picks it up in the corner of the Badger zone.
Now Patkard touches that one along Halverson keeping that one
in the zone. Offer ship Pad.
Speaker 3 (02:14:47):
No, we haven't seen Alberson out there that much tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:14:49):
No, this is probably her fourth is shift.
Speaker 3 (02:14:51):
Maybe, so hopefully we'll see her make do with her
shift here.
Speaker 4 (02:14:55):
Huh yep, most definitely out there with Picard and Pekin
Hoggin labbe we'll dump it and go for a change.
Some fresh skaters out now for Saint Cloud. Potter and
the Badger's own shovels it up ahead to Scannal makes
a nice move around. Bryant takes a shot blocked in
front and then turned over. Here comes Sydney Lamb.
Speaker 3 (02:15:20):
Boy, she's pretty fast.
Speaker 4 (02:15:21):
Look at her go still it's Lamb fans on the shot.
Second attempt goes wide of the goal, but she just
undressed a few Badgers.
Speaker 3 (02:15:28):
Hit did she displayed some speed going in down there.
Speaker 4 (02:15:32):
And now here's the counter attack for Wisconsin as they
get some fresh legs out as well. Scannal in the
corner down low behind the net, centering pass looking for Zillish,
couldn't find her. Just Zillis's second shift of the game.
Shot turned away by McNaughton. Rebound controlled by Murphy. Murphy
(02:15:54):
with it, takes it to center ice and sends that
one down. Scandal and Enright go for the change. Nice
for check here from Zillish. He picks it right back
up for Wisconsin. Picked up by Hall. Hall moving in
behind the net, gets it to Gorbatenko. Then the centering
pass taken away by Peyton Remick. Now here come the Huskies.
(02:16:16):
Avery Farrell, the goal scorer for Saint Cloud State. Collision
out in front, picked up by Remick, keeping it in.
Remick has it at the left circle, going to the
middle and McCarthy with a great play to get it
out of the zone.
Speaker 3 (02:16:29):
Good her goal.
Speaker 4 (02:16:29):
Huh, She's trying to hustle to keep possession and she does,
and now it's a two on one for Wisconsin. Here
is Kelly Gorbatenko.
Speaker 3 (02:16:36):
Why to the goal Oh boy, got to hit.
Speaker 4 (02:16:39):
That net right. Yeah, another big chance for Kelly. Here
come the Badgers again. McCarthy has it on the right side,
takes a shot why to the goal and Zimmerman can
clear it for Saint Cloud State. Zimmerman sliding, but she
makes the play. Now here's Wolf. I'm ahead to Mikaelian
(02:17:04):
a toe drag. Nice play by Harvey's Zimmerman a shot
blocked by Harvey.
Speaker 3 (02:17:08):
Great d bite kk Harvey.
Speaker 4 (02:17:10):
And Eden has Sims, but it's a great play from Peon.
Would have had Sims all alone on a breakaway there.
But here comes Eden on the left side with speed,
loses possession of that puck and Wolf can shovel that
one along the Peon. Final three minutes of regulation. Here
here is Sorreal entering the zone. Sorrel stopping up being
(02:17:31):
pestered there by Potter. It does a great job.
Speaker 13 (02:17:33):
Yeah, great d just stepping up and making her cough
the puck up.
Speaker 4 (02:17:39):
Labbe wins it right back. Another good stick there from
Laney Potter. But it's still in the Husk. They're still
in the Badger zone for the Huskies.
Speaker 3 (02:17:46):
Taking away that passing lane.
Speaker 4 (02:17:49):
Two and a half to go here in regulation, puck
is frozen in the left corner. It comes free for
Laney Potter now and Potter gets it up to Sims.
Sims and the Neutrals own lost it for a moment.
A couple of Huskies collide at center ice and ultimately
it falls into the Husky zone for Uriola to pick
it up. One of the four finished players playing under
(02:18:12):
their finish coaching staff. Yeah, Edwards with a nice poke
skating off side there and then some pushing and shoving
between Sims and Sydney Jackal and uh with two minutes ago.
We don't want to see what we saw in the
Minnesota versus Ohio State game with all the fighting going on,
and I don't need that. Definitely not the game. Yep.
(02:18:33):
There have been some cool heads in this game so far,
which is what you want to see. Sundle in and
Picard from the circle. Picard wins that face off, trying
to get in the above five hundred category for a
face offs tonight. Here's peakin Hoggen with speed driving into
that peaking Hogen turned away by chow Back. Yeah, she
(02:18:54):
stays with it, gets her own rebound. Halverson being poked
at in the corner Venusio lays a big hit. Here's
Pacard up the middle. Pacarda shot save made, and Picard,
just a day after her birthday, almost got her first
goal of the season.
Speaker 13 (02:19:12):
Yeah, that was a good effort by Picard, a nice
shot on net. Choeback just squared up and made the
save look easy on a hard shot.
Speaker 4 (02:19:19):
And cho Back's had quite a bit to do. She's
had forty five saves twice in her career. Both have
come against Wisconsin. Now she's not gonna face He's not
gonna have forty five saves tonight. Badgers have thirty seven
shots on goal with five goals. But she's still had
quite a busy day. Peak and Hog and chasing. It's
(02:19:39):
in the Badger zone for Halverson to collect in the corner,
and Peon picks it up at center ice, moves it
along to Wolf who just dumps that one down and
over the stick of mcnonton. So Murphy has to save
the day, and she does. Murphy in the corner along
to Picard. Final minute and ten Here in regulation, Peak
and Hog and now it's center ice going to the
(02:20:01):
left side. It's Halverson. Halverson still with it, gets it
through the legs of her teammate Picard. Here comes Harvey.
Can she get the hat trick? She hangs on to
it behind the net. Harvey, Badger's looking for another goal
here in the final minute, it's Halverson and the corner.
Now is Harvey. Harvey behind the net, centering pass. Here
(02:20:25):
comes Scanal, misses the net. Good Jungles, We'll keep the zone.
Good idea Scannal centering pass to Halverson. Final thirty left
point is Halverson drops it off for Jungles at the
left point. Now Here is en right spinning away. Final
twenty five. Harvey on the left side makes a nice move.
(02:20:45):
Harvey behind the net looking for someone out in front.
Tries to find Halverson, can't find her in holloway. We'll
pick it up behind the net. Try and kill some
time off this clock in the final ten seconds. No
time for a comeback bid for Saint Cloud State. Unfortunately
he is storial on the left side. Final three seconds
to go and the Badgers with their one hundredth victory
(02:21:08):
against Saint Cloud State in program history. They get one
hundred wins against Saint Cloud State before the Huskies could
get to ten wins against the Badgers and it's a
commending five to one victory over Saint Cloud State.
Speaker 13 (02:21:22):
Well, I tell you, I like to see the progression there.
We started to handle a puck a little bit better,
some good passing in that last period. Our forwards did
score eventually, and so it was a fruitful day. And
I'll always take this one, especially the first time back
in for a game in a few weeks.
Speaker 4 (02:21:39):
Here here you go, not too bad, Caroline Harvey getting
a couple of goals, Manusu getting a goals well, and
then like you said, the forwards getting a couple of
goals as well. We're gonna take a quick break when
we come back the postgame show on ten to seventy
in the game on Wisconsin. We'll see to see you later.
