the Badgers, Matt Lapey.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Good morning from Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, alongside Mark Tawsher,
our sideline reporter Patrick Kurbs, statistician Mike Keller, our engineer
Dave McCann, and Aishad Jackson. Back at our network studio.
This is Matt Lapey. We welcome you two. Wisconsin football.
Another daunting task in a season that's been full of
them for Luke Fickles Wisconsin Badgers. Today they're on the

(01:31):
road taking on the second ranked team in the land,
the Indiana Hoosiers. And before we get started, let's pause
ten seconds for station identification. Ten for an ID. This
is Badger football from Learfield. Hoosiers take the field. The
Badgers got out there a couple of beats before Kurt
Signetti led his group out there. Ten and zero for
the second straight year. Ranked seconds in the country, the

(01:54):
Badgers coming off the win last week against then twenty
third ranked Washington and taush Let's get our construction business
group keys to the game, Wisconsin Operating Engineers, Build your career,
Join one three to nine dot com. What are you
looking for today from Wisconsin?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
There's a couple of things.

Speaker 7 (02:10):
Obviously, the defense is gonna need to be as good
if not better than what they were last week. And
you know, I think offensively, we all kind of understand
where we're at as a unit. But you mentioned in
the pregame show, Indiana is susceptible to giving up big plays.
Wisconsin has had a hard time finding big plays. You're
gonna need to find some big plays. I don't think
that this offense is gonna be able to do a

(02:32):
bunch of twelve thirteen play eighty yard drives.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
It's gonna have to get short fields and.

Speaker 7 (02:36):
It's gonna have to find ways to make big plays.
And so for today, I think if you're looking for
the anatomy of another upset, it's gonna have to look
very similar to what we saw last week, but probably
even more so.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
You're gonna need more from the offense.

Speaker 7 (02:51):
And I think that's gonna need to come in the
in in a big play for him.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
All right, captains are on the field. Jason Nickelby is
the referee as we get ready for the coin toss
here today between the Badgers and the Indiana Hoosiers, and
as they go through that process. Right now, let's check
in with our sideline reporter, Patrick Curb. Not all the
seats are full winning is a new thing here at Indiana.

(03:16):
They'll be loud, It be louder than what we've always
known Indiana football to be. But what's it like down
there right now?

Speaker 8 (03:22):
Yeah, we've made a lot of trips to Bloomington here
for football, and I think this is going to be
an environment that we haven't seen here in Indiana. They
obviously are coming off a CFP performance last season and
a great season again this year.

Speaker 9 (03:34):
I'm very curious to see how loud it will be.
We haven't had it at full stadium here and.

Speaker 8 (03:39):
That's a big test for a freshman quarterback on the road.
But in terms of the Wisconsin sideline, it's amazing what
a win can do for you. And the week of
the last week that they've had and just the air
has been lighter, and there's a different level of confidence
that now that they have seen what a win looks like,
there's proof of life, proof of existence, and proof of
concept for how to win a game this season. And

(04:01):
you feel a different vibe, a different energy all the
way through. And I'll say this last thing for November
in the Big Ten country, as weather's about as good
as we're gonna get Patsey Sun seventy degrees. There is
a win, but in terms of November and a big ten,
you can't complain about this.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, the win. They're saying between fifteen and twenty miles
per hour out of the Southwest. As Indiana has won,
the toss has elected to defer. You know, times are different.
As the Badgers were preparing for this trip, they piped
in crowd noise during practice. I'm pretty sure I have
never heard that before watching a Wisconsin football practice, before

(04:41):
coming down here to Bloomington to play a football game.
But everybody loves the winner, and you got quite the atmosphere,
I think, and outside the stadium. They're still filing inside
the stadium for this early kickoff. Let's see what happens.
The Badger's surprised a lot of people last week. Let's
see if they can do it again here today against
the second ranked team in the country. Vinnie Anthony is

(05:04):
deep along with derry On Dupree for Wisconsin, and the
Badgers will go left to right as we view it
here with the first quarter of play, that is north
to south. Quinn Warren, a transfer from Central Florida, will
handle the kickoff duties and he should have a little
wind I think at his back here in quarter number one.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
And I thought last week one of the key things
obviously you saw the blocked punt that set up Washington's touchdown,
But outside of that, and that was obviously a big
outside of really that field position battle was conquered by Wisconsin.
That gave us that opportunity to pull off the upset.
Gonna need similar special teams to play today.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
All right, we are set to go in the end
of the home Crimson jerseys, the white trim Badgers traveling
Whites and the Cardinal trim, and the kick is in
the air and Vinnie Anthony will let it hit into
the end zone. Well the touchback Carter Smith and the
Badgers started their twenty five yard line. Patrick, what do
you got on the Badger's quarterback here today?

Speaker 8 (05:59):
The thing that press the coaches most about Carter Smith
last week in his debut was his ability to take
care of the football and not have the moment be
too big for him. This week, as he heads into
his first career start, that is going to be imperative
taking care of the ball. The second thing is communication.
Now they're on the road, they're gonna have to use
a silent count, you would think at times, and with
all the shifting and movements that they have, being able
to communicate and get things on schedule is critical and

(06:22):
a big test for this freshman.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Quarterback Jaden Baller gets his start lines up wide to
the right tretch Keckahuna's slot right, benning Anthony to the left.
Gideon Atuca is the running back to the left of Smith.
In the shotgun, Anthony starts in motion left to right.
First play of the game, snap the Smith hands off
a Tuca tries the right side, powers his way for
about three yards to the twenty eight yard line. On

(06:44):
the first play from scrimmage, Mario Landino, a defensive tackle,
wraps him up. Game of three second, out and seven.

Speaker 7 (06:49):
And you'll take a three yard start a little just
don't play off to the right side of Wisconsin's offensive line,
a little push and again. Love what you love about
Atuca is he's always leaning forward for so a one
or two yard you end up getting three and out
second and seventh.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Indiana's defense allows just twelve points per game, second best
in the country. Ohio State leads the land in that category.
Keckahuna motions to the left and a little shovel pass
Jackson Acre across a thirty thirty five forty acre forty
five and up to the forty seven yard line. So
a little jet motion action and a little shovel pass
from Smith to Jackson Acre first down Wisconsin at the

(07:26):
Badger's forty seven.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
Just continue, make sure that you make Indiana eye discipline, stay,
you have the fake jet sweep. Obviously Carter Smith is
good with his legs, and then you just leak.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Jackson Acre back in.

Speaker 7 (07:39):
Everybody is spreading out to try to cover the horizontal
quick hitter inside the acre on a shovel pass. Really
nice pickup, nice play design.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Ain't of nineteen empty backfield. Three receivers right, one on
the left, Ariane Duprie, Why to the right, Smith to
throw looks right, looks left, throws knocked down. Ain't complete
intended for Keckahuna and that was de'angelo Ponds. You test
him at your own peril. He is one of the
best corners in the country. People will tell you Junior
out of Miami, one of the James Madison transfers second

(08:10):
and ten for the Badgers at their forty seven.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
I'm not one hundred percent show.

Speaker 7 (08:14):
Obviously you have to pass the football and do some things,
but an empty set early on and that didn't work.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Three receivers to the right and Atuca in the backfield
to the right at quarter Smith second and ten Wisconsin
for the Badger's forty seven yard line, and they have
to take a time out, play clock winding down. So
the Badgers burned one early. Here we're a minute nineteen
into the game, and that can be life with a
true freshman quarterback making his first career start. We have

(08:43):
no score. Badgers with the games opening possessions second down
and ten at their own forty seven yard line.

Speaker 7 (08:50):
I thought one of the things Patrick mentioned there was
really interesting because I could just kind of go back
to my career and my first game. I played a ton,
I didn't start. I didn't have that whole week long
build up to it. Carter didn't either. He knew he
was going to get some reps, so here he had
the whole week. You think about a little bit more.
You're on the road and you have a lot of

(09:11):
things on your head in your mind that you have
to work.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Through second down and ten for the Badgers at their
own forty seven yard line. They'll go out of the
pistol here with a Tuca behind Smith. Now Aker will
motion into the backfield to the right of the quarterback
Kakahuna's lot right motions left. Here's the handoff. Gideon Atuca
trying to go up the middle and runs into Lewis Moore,
the safety at the forty nine yard line, gain of two.

(09:36):
Third down and eight, Patrick, what do you have.

Speaker 8 (09:38):
If you're wondering about the communication here and how it works?
Jeff Grimes is the play caller up in the booth.
He radios down to Kenny Geyton on the sideline. The
quarterbacks coach. Geydon speaks into the headset of Carter Smith
and gives him a number. And Carter Smith has a
play sheet on his wristband that he then reads the play.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Of the huddle.

Speaker 8 (09:54):
So that's the line of the communication. But again it's
new for a freshman.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Third down and eight for the back at their own
forty nine yard line slot left, slot rights and Kuckahuna
in motion. They faked the jet sweep Smith. They'll one
at fifty forty five. Carter Smith down on the forty
two yard line, first down with a yard despair and
again they're teasing with that jet motion. Carter Smith, as
we saw a week ago, and knows what he's doing.

(10:18):
Run of the ball and he'll get a Badger first
down at the Indiana forty two.

Speaker 7 (10:22):
Yeah, really good deception there and a lot again, a
lot of things going sideline to sideline, and Carter Smith
reads it, doesn't hand it off, Seese a little preaset.
You pulled Joe Brunner the left guard to go kick out.
He follows behind and he's able to pick up a
first down.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Two and a half minutes gone by. Badger's on the
move on the game's first possession, double wide to the
right of two of the running back. Smith takes the
toss right, he'll run it off the left side of
the line, runs into Landino and is stormed back Smith
for about a yard of the forty one of Indiana.
Second down and.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Nine, just a hard fake.

Speaker 7 (10:55):
We saw this a bunch last week that what you're
trying to get is the linebackers to even take one
false step towards the sideline when you do the fake
that time off to the right side of Wisconsin's offensive line.
Nobody bit and Carter Smith kind of dropped right there
maybe again of one.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Three minutes in second down and nine for the Badgers
line of scrimmage the Indiana forty one yard line and
the Anthony wide Wright goes in motion to the left.
Two receivers that side of the formation. Smith in the
shotgun gets the stamp. Indiana rushing four. Smith scans throws
short pass over the middle, caught by Jackson McGowan, and
he is shoved back by Isaiah Jones, the linebacker. Progress

(11:35):
will get mcgoan near the thirty six of Indiana, and
it'll be a third down and four for Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Great protection up front there.

Speaker 7 (11:44):
Indiana doesn't blitz, They just rush their down lineman. And
I thought Wisconsin's offensive line really gave Carter a ton
of time there to kind of decipher pick up, you know,
three or four yards five yards there to set up
a very manageable third down.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
And four trips to the right go to the right
of Smith. Now, Kekahuna, we'll motion to the left, comes
back the other way and Smith will give it to him.
Tret's getting a block trying to get to the corner.
He'll get inside the thirty five down near the thirty two,
which is where he needs to be. Let's see where
they market. It might be a little bit short that
it'll be about a yard short. They place at the

(12:19):
thirty three of Indiana. Fourth and one offense days on
the field for Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Love this call. Go for it.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
You're a big underdog, you're on the road. It's a
fourth and manageable. I know last week there are a
couple times that that didn't work out, but again you're
really seeing Grimes, the offensive coordinator, really putting a lot
of pressure on Indiana to cover sideline to sideline to
that time, Tretch was able to get the corner and
make this a manageable fourth and one.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Smith will work under his center, Davis Hines and Ibacks
behind him. Smith take's hand off, a took pushing, pushing,
looks like he has it. He needed the thirty two.
It looks like they may mark just inside the two.
First down Wisconsin. The drive continues five minutes into the game.
No score.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
Yeah, not a ton of movement, but did it good
enough job? Covering up in what you're always looking for
on those fourth and shorts. If you're a defense, you're
trying to get penetration and throw things off the offensive
line did just enough kind of covered people up, and
you gave Gideon an opportunity just to kind of lunge forward.
Didn't get it by much, but got it by enough

(13:26):
to keep this drive continuing.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
First and ten at the Indiana thirty one Smith, again
under center, takes a snap, drops to throw under pressure,
and is thrown down here the forty yard line. Indiana
getting to the quarterback Dominate Ratcliffe senior defensive lineman transfer
out of Texas State, Bill Mark at the thirty eight
yard line of Indiana. That was a loss of seven.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Yeah, you can't. That was you know Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (13:51):
Ruh kind of rushes up to the line and goes
under center, and there's nobody behind Carter Smith, so they're
gonna throw the football and unfortunately, just an initial quick
beat there off of the right side of Wisconsin's offensive line,
no chance for Carter Smith. Held onto the football, but
no chance to complete that throw.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Indiana one of the best teams around it getting to
the quarterback Chris Brooks wide right motions left on second
down hand off Drian Dupree trying to pick his way
off the right side, and the going is tough, maybe
to the thirty five yard line. Aiden Fisher outstanding linebacker
getting in there as well as Mkyle Kamara on the
defensive line though market the thirty five of Indiana. Third

(14:30):
down and fourteen for Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
And this has been a very impressive drive by the
Wisconsin Badgers using a bunch of different things.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
See the quarterback runs and everything else.

Speaker 7 (14:40):
But this is what Indiana is trying to get to
the first time that they've actually gotten Wisconsin in a
third and non managed now Here is where you'll see
how confident you are what.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
You're trying to get done offensively.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Third and fourteen, Brooks, Hilton and Anthony to the left,
with Anthony motioning to the right. Now Smith in the
shotgun Dupree to his left. Smith takes a snap looking
short pass over the middle capp by Anthony at the
thirty five to the thirty yard line, cuts it along
the hashmarks on the left side, dies to the twenty
seven of Indiana. Make at fourth down and six for Wisconsin.

(15:14):
There's a long drive to open the game, will lead
to a field goal try with seven point fifty in
counting left in the first quarter. And we mentioned this
wind here, so Nathaniel Vacos will be kicking into it
a bit right now. This will be a forty five
yard try from the left. Hash mark Veco's five out
of eights this season. He was two out of three

(15:36):
last week. Nike leeve he will snap Atticus Bertram's will hold.
Lions are down, here's a snap spot kick is away
and it is no good. Looked like Veco slipped a
plant foot and lost his footing there and he yanked
that field goal try. So the Badgers have it for

(15:57):
half a quarter, but do not scores. We will take
our first time out. See how Alliant Energy is building

Chevy dot com or visit your local Badger Land Chevy dealer,
a proud partner to Badger Football. What was content? A
thirteen play, forty eight yard drive that took more than
seven and a half minutes but came up empty. Indiana
takes over at its own twenty seven yard line, twenty
eight yard line, first and ten scoreless, seven to twenty

(18:34):
one left in the opening court.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
Really an impressive drive there by Wisconsin. You get out
there and you're able to convert a couple of third downs,
you get a fourth down, you're moving the football and
you know, unfortunately you found one one first down where
you get sacked and you get yourself in a second
In fifteen sixteen, and we're just not built to be
able to overcome that.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
You do position yourself in.

Speaker 7 (18:57):
Unfortunately, Vaco slips as he's misses the kick because you
know to come down this way and not come out
of here with points. Disappointing, but now you ask your
defense to make a stop and get it back.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Whosier's starting at their twenty seven yard line, first and ten.
Two receivers left, one on the right roman himby is
the running back Mendoza. Little playfake throws to the right
side that's caught by E. J. Williams. He'll step out
of ass at the thirty five yard line of the
far side, the cornerback to Yannie Hill on the coverage
at a quick gain of eight yards on that pass
to the fifth year senior receiver.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
Yeah, you wonder how much Indiana you've seen teams really
struggle to run the football against this Wisconsin front. You're
kind of curious how Indiana is going to attack today
in the end.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Of the second best rushing team in the league, ninth
best in the country in yards per game, coming in
double wide to the right as well as the left.
Here's Bendoza throwing to the left. That's caught by Charlie
Becker across the forty yard line. Riccardo Holman slowsing down,
gets help from Cooper, Catalano and Thomas Heiberger. That'll be
a first down for Indiana at the Hoosiers forty two

(19:57):
yard line.

Speaker 7 (19:58):
Well, so far, it seems as if in 's good
in all right, We're gonna snap the ball. There's a
little bit of space on the outside. We're just gonna
whip it out there and see if Wisconsin adjusts to it.
You saw what Alabama that's a long time ago to
another top team in the country. That's how they approach
it in Indiana. So far, through two plays, E J.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Williams wide to the right, Omar Cooper to the left
on first and ten, and Doza will hand it up
the middle to Roman Hemby and he gets wrapped up
by Mason Reeger at the forty five yard line. It
looks like of Indiana Game of three for the former
Maryland Terrapin and it's check it down in seven full
the Hoosiers.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
And one of the things that was so impressive last week,
I know everybody was talking about Posa Catalano, and deservedly so.
With all the tackles and everything else, but the big
fellas up front, you know, Barton and Suggs being able
to kind of hold that point and let.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Those guys run around. That's gonna obviously be critical again today.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Crystal formation and MB behind Fernando Mendoza. Second and seven,
Indiana at its own forty five and Doza pops back
to pass off the play fig checks it down right side.
That's caught it the forty five. I've to midfield and
into Wisconsin territory. Matt Young makes the stop at the
forty nine yard line. Holden stage their senior tight end,
a transfer from Tennessee with the catch, just his sixth

(21:12):
catch of the year, and it's third down in one
Indiana at the Badger's forty nine.

Speaker 7 (21:16):
That's just the quarterback that understands, you know, defenses and
where he needs to go with the football. There, a
little bit of pressure comes late Mendoza season it gets
it out into the flat and gives himself a manageable
third down.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Riley Nowakowski wing Left's former Badger in motion to the right.
Third down and one Mendoza hands to him. He has
a crease inside the forty five and he's taken down
at the forty two yard line of Wisconsin. The linebacker
Catialano on the tackle. First down. Indiana the best third
down converting team in the country fifty seven percent coming

(21:47):
into today's game.

Speaker 7 (21:48):
They just were able to kind of wall Ben Barton
off on that left side ran inside of him. And
that's about as much space as I've seen an opposing
offense get on a short yard It's playgainst this Wisconsin
defense in quite a while.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Four thirty seven in counting. He left in the first quarter,
no Scorekylon Black now in the backfield on first intent,
Indiana shotgun Stamp Mendoza pockets tight glushed to his right
under pursued as Brandon Lane passes incomplete down inside the
thirty yard line to the far side. Omar Cooper the
intended receiver at its second inten Indiana at the Wisconsin

(22:24):
forty two yard line.

Speaker 7 (22:25):
Well, if they're not going to call that hold off
of the right side, I think it was Corey Walker.
I mean he was tackled by the right tackle there,
and that's the side there. Indiana's left tackle, really good player,
Carter Smith. Their right tackle. He's given some things up
this year, obviously, that time. Just a tackle that they missed.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
All right, as long as you're doing it both ways,
all right, I'm alright with well.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
I was hesitating on the call. I was waiting for
the flag. Never saw three receivers left, one on the right,
Black the running back, shotgun Stamp Mendoza at a screen
to the left. Black will catch forty five to the
forty yard line and cuts off a man inside the
thirty five breaking left. He has stopped by Jamiir Latimer,
and it looks like they'll place at the thirty three
yard line of Wisconsin, a gain of nine third down

(23:07):
and one for Indiana. I don't know why they're converging
rates so high. They get a lot of these kind
of third and ones third in short situations. They're in
another one right now. Two receivers to the right, Jonathan
Brady in the Slotkylon Black. They're running back and they

(23:28):
snap the Mendoza. He'll hand it the Black little cut
to his left. He'll get the first down as he
will move the stack to the thirty one yard line,
driven back basin posta there Sebastian Cheeks as well. First
down Indiana.

Speaker 7 (23:41):
Yeah, a really nice cut there by Black. That was
Wisconsin did a much better job that time of the
initial gaps up front, kind of covering up. He does
a quick little jump cut and jump bounces it out
to the left side. Didn't get it by much, didn't
need a lot, but he was able to pick up
just enough to keep the chains moving.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Three fifteen in counting left in a quick first quarter,
no score. Indiana with its first possession, Jay Williams tight
to the right, Charlie Becker to the left. Now Wilmark
Cooper lines up for the right as well. Wellman him
be back in there at running back. Ndoza gets the
head high stamp back to throw deep shot left side
wants Becker reaches up. Got a touchdown Indiana on a

(24:19):
perfect pass. I'm telling you, Austin Brown had pretty good
coverage there. The pass of the catch a little better
and it's six nothing Indiana.

Speaker 7 (24:31):
I'm really good protection up front, and you see the
one on one coverage with Becker and Austin Brown and
a beautifully thrown ball by Mendoza where his guy could go.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
He is able to recognize it and Austin not being
able to get his head.

Speaker 7 (24:44):
Turned around quick enough. Nice high point catch there. By Becker.
Beautiful throw and great execution by Indiana's offense.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Charlie Becker has really emerged those seven receptions.

Speaker 5 (24:54):

Just on that drive, I thought he was able to
kind of see what was going on, get rid of
the football when he needed to four different receivers, obviously
Becker understanding the coverage and then being able to execute
that throw and then you're able to run the football,
and he was going tempo. You just see a quarterback

Two minutes fifty six seconds left to the opening quarter,
seven to nothing, Indiana leading Wisconsin's second possession. Now for
Carter Smith and the Badger's offense.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
Really liked the what Wisconsin did on its first drive
is able to keep things manageable and using that run
game and incorporating everybody. You have a nice little shovel
pass with an explosive to Jackson Acres. So some really
nice things to build off of. And now you're just
trying to figure out that the only times we really
saw Wisconsin's off struggle on that first drive is when

(31:01):
we went empty.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Yes, so I would think, let's pull.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
Back a little on the empty, Let's go a little
more full, and let's see where we go.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Darry and Dupree, the running back Badgers were showing heavy
to the left, and now I rot a little heavy
to the rights. And on first down hand off Darry
and Duprie trying the left side. Nothing doing Badgers when
they're twenty five yard line and go backwards a yard
or so, and it looks like on the play was
Daniel and Duke Way on the defensive line. Sophomore out

(31:30):
of Georgia loss of one of the twenty four of
Wisconsin's second down and eleven.

Speaker 7 (31:34):
Shifted Riley Malman from his normal left tackle spot over
to a jumbo tight end over on the right side
of Wisconsin's offensive line. And I'm I'm guessing what you
think you end up running it left? You think that
Indiana is thinking, well, they're going to come right, we'll
get it backside not so.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Much tretch Kekahuna in motion or right to left to
the receivers either side. Chocolnt snap Cattersmith fore Man rush
left side pass caught by Chris Brooks across the thirty
yard line. Brook's surging his way across the thirty five
and as Brooks, using that strength of his took two
or three Hoosiers to bring him down. First down for
the Badgers on a game of twelve frush out of

(32:10):
downs at the Wisconsin thirty six yard line.

Speaker 7 (32:12):
Yeah, love that second intent a second and nine, second
and ten, and Carter just goes back there. That back
foot hits the ball comes out right to Brooks and
Brooks you said three guys to bring him down. They're
trying to rip at the football. Coach always talks about
how great of a blocker is.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
He's a big, strong cat. He is able to pick
up that first.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Out Kakahuna slot to the right, first and ten Wisconsin,
it's own thirty six. Smith fakes the toss, drops the throw,
pops it up down the left sideline and it's incomplete
intended for darry On Dupree, and he had tight coverage
from the linebacker Elijah Hardy. It would have been at
thirty one left of the first quarter. It's second and
ten for the Badgers at their thirty six.

Speaker 7 (32:52):
Yeah, this obviously is something. We saw this play a
bunch last week. When Carter came into the actual toss.
We saw three or four times. Sometimes it worked, sometimes
it didn't. But hear, what you're doing is you're letting
Indiana's tape study and you're hoping that they bite, and
actually they bid a little bit too. Pre had a step. Unfortunately,
Carter overthrew him by a couple of yards.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
The end a Tuca back of the game to the
left of Smith. Jackson aker to the right, second and
ten for the Wisconsin thirty six yard line handoff at
Tuca and he gets smothered behind the line of scrimmage.
Indiana just all over it. Tyreek Tucker three hundred pounds
Richard junior defensive tackle, another one of those. James Madison

(33:33):
transfers loss of two and it's third down and twelve
for the Badgers.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
He ended up making the play about what happened.

Speaker 7 (33:39):
A lot of penetration up front and you never really
let him get started.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
He actually made the tackle, actually was.

Speaker 7 (33:46):
Flexed back, read it and kind of came back around,
almost like he was playing linebacker. Way too much penetration
there by Indiana's defensive line.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Lance Basin, Eugene Hilton, Chris Brooks out to the right,
do Pre motions out of the backfield to the right.
Smith will throw it that way and making the catches
Dupre and he gets a yanked down by Jamari's sharp
the cornerback defeeding the block attempt from Lance Mason. Dupre
take it to the ground at the thirty yard line
of Wisconsin loss of four more and it's fourth down
and sixteen here in the final half minute of quarter

(34:17):
number one.

Speaker 7 (34:18):
Yeah, I don't want to sound like a broken record,
and I hope I don't have to as this day
continues on. But we just can't function third and fourteen.
We're not built that way. We can't have lost yardage plays,
can't have penalties because I'm sitting up here thinking we're
gonna throw a bubble screen. Indiana felt the same way,
and we're punting it.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Here's Sean West on the punch. Jonathan Brady is deep.
This kick hangs up in the air end over end,
and Brady waving his teammates away. They'll take a badger
bounce inside the twenty five inside the twenty. It works
out well as it rolls to a stop at the
eighteen yard line of Indiana after a fifty two yard punch.
And with that we have come to the end of
the first quarter of play.

mentioned it earlier twenty seven to thirty. Last night, a
couple of touchdowns nearly perfect, Oregon blows out Minnesota forty
two to thirteen was the final Matt, all.

Right, Mike, thank you very much. Wisconsin football brought to

are starting to have some doubts about Oregon a few
weeks ago. Maybe fewer people are having doubts now as
the Ducks get ready for their stretch drive. Figure this league,

(38:02):
Ohio State in Indiana on a clear path to the playoff,
Oregon stating its case, Michigan still trying to stay the case.
Needless to say, Conference commissioners will be doing a lot
of public jockeying here in the next few weeks. Indiana,
starting from its eighteen yard line, going left to right.
Here in quarter number two, Kylon Black is the running back.

(38:23):
Two receivers to left, Omark Cooper one of them motions,
and a quick throw right side of EJ. Williams or
catch turns it up across the twenty five yard line,
and Christian Allegro back in the fray with that big
club on his left hand is able to stop Williams
Delmark across the twenty five to the twenty six yard
line on a gain of eights.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
It's great to see Christian back out there.

Speaker 7 (38:46):
I know you got that big old club and he's
playing outside now, but great to see him kind of
fight his way back in out get back out on
the field.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
This says something figure you might you might just go
ahead and tap out that he's not doing that. Here's
the keeper for Mendoza running left, chase by Allegro, who
will get to him at the thirty one yard line.
That'll still be a first down for Indiana. Mendoza is
very capable of doing this. He has rushed for five
touchdowns two hundred and forty rushing yards for the Indiana quarterback,

(39:17):
and he runs for the first down here in the
first minute of the second quarter.

Speaker 7 (39:20):
Ye if I'm Wisconsin, I'm saying, okay, you can do
that all day if that's gonna be the case you want.
And then when he gets out into space, make sure
he feels it yes when he does that, because if
I'm Indiana, I don't know how often I want to
be doing that.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Seven nothing Indiana first minute gone. Here in quarter number two,
pistol formation, Black behind the quarterback Mendoza to throw a
short pass left side that's caught by Becker across the
forty yard line and he has spun down at the
forty four another first down the Yanny Hill on the
tackle a gain of thirteen yards.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
You just feel, you could feel the kind of command
that Mendoza has of this offense. They're a little uncomfortable
for a second, but new got off of his read.
It so many times you see quarterbacks get off that
first read.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
And they panic. He didn't do that.

Speaker 7 (40:05):
A little bit of pressure, but he knew where to
go with the football. He delivered it on time, and
Indiana picks up an easy first down from.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
The Hoosiers forty four yard line. Becker comes out to
the left, Omar Cooper to the right, shotgun stat Mendoza
hands off k Lod Black and Big Perk Charles Perkins
is there and having none of it. Says they're running
back to the turf at the forty three yard line
of IU on a loss of one.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Yeah, Perk, that's it. It's great to see Perk get
out there.

Speaker 7 (40:31):
He just got a little bit of penetration there, got
his eyes up and was able to kind of push
his man back and then also react and get a loss.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
A little TfL for big Perk.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
Second down and eleven for Indiana from the Hoosiers forty
three yard line, Black to the right of Mendoza. Three
receivers to the rights, including Riley Nowakowski. Charlie Becker is
out to the left. Snap the Mendoza looking left, throwing
left Becker the catch, Deanny Hill smacks him right away
across midfield along boundary at the forty eight yard line

(41:01):
of Wisconsin, and that's up another third and short for
the Hoosiers. Third down and two.

Speaker 7 (41:06):
Now Wisconsin stemmed into a bear front, which is an essence.
You cover up the center, you cover up both guards,
and then you bring guys off of the edge. And
again Mendoza sees that is able to get rid of
the football and pick up a big chunk here to
get a manageable third down.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Indiana two for two on third downs so far, quarter
and change into the game. Third and two now at
the Wisconsin forty eight yard line. Trips to the right,
Black to running back to the right of Fernando Mendoza.
Takes a snap, rolling right as Mendoza under pressure down
he girls and there's Mason Posa, oh, just exploding into
the backfield. Posa went the sack inside the forty five

(41:43):
of Indiana.

Speaker 7 (41:45):
He has been so good at basically spying. We saw
him close up the game last week against Washington doing that.
But that was a rollout in designed to have the
ball out quick. Wisconsin covered that little under route right
at the sticks.

Speaker 3 (41:59):
Mendoza has to hold.

Speaker 7 (42:01):
Posa sees him hold it, shoots his shot, goes and
brings him down and forcing a punt.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Big time stop there by Wisconsin's defense line.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
Of scrimmage the forty five of Indiana. Mitch McCarthy, the
twenty seven year old with the punt coming up on
a Tyrell Henry catching up the twenty five twenty two
yard line rather and he gets hit quickly a yard

Speaker 9 (44:27):
It's been well document.

Speaker 8 (44:28):
Wisconsin has had to play four quarterbacks this season, and
all the four quarterbacks have different skill sets. That's been
a big challenge for offensive corner Jeff Grimes to prepare
for a different game plan for each week, often multiple
game plans in the same week, not knowing exactly who's
gonna play, and emergency situations in case guys get injured,
which has been the case. He said this week that
last week for the Washington game was the first time

(44:50):
in his career He's had three separate play sheets that
he had to take with them to the booth for
calling plays given that the different quarterbacks he could use
again this week, he has three separate sheets for the quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Man he is Carter Smith under center on first down
of playfake Smith rolling to his right, looking, still looking
and hardy. The linebacker gets there and shoves him out
of bounds. And that's where you just want to throw
it away. Is Cauter well outside the pocket again, true freshman,
first career start on the road, second ranked team in
the country, where that's a two yard loss, second down

(45:23):
and twelve.

Speaker 7 (45:23):
Yeah, and that's experience that you'll figure that out because
you don't you we don't want to be going a
quarterback five. That's the that's the kind of hit that
you take. That was a big time hit.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Throw the ball away.

Speaker 7 (45:35):
They did a really good job of covering the tight
end coming underneath.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
That's where it was supposed to go. Didn't go dump it, move.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
On Jackson Peeker slot left, al tretch, Geckohuna motions right
the left. Here's the second down hand off a Tuca
with room up the middle across the twenty five yard
line and pull down to the twenty eight by the
linebacker Aiden Fisher, and that brings up third down and
five for the Badgers, just shy of their own twenty eighth.

Speaker 7 (45:58):
And we thought Indiana was gonna come in here and
try and slow down the run game. That was a
nice chunk played there. But prior to that it was
ten carries for thirteen yards. So Wisconsin, you're gonna have
to stick with this really utilized Carter, I think his
legs to continue to force those edge guys to squeeze
or to not allow him to squeeze down.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Give Gideon a little room that time we were able
to do that.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
Badger's one out of four on third down as they
go empty here and for the moment now, Darry and
Drew Pree motions into the backfield, the receivers to the left,
one of the right. Du Pree motions out to the left.
Smith under pressure throwing high pass he could blait and
oh my, a better pass and Vinnie Anthony has got room,
but the pass a little high and hot than it's

(46:40):
fourth down for Wisconsin five to go.

Speaker 7 (46:43):
Oh, I can just imagine Grimes up in the booth
right now, because that was a beautifully designed play. You
have everybody going left Indiana the screen. A convoy out
there did a great job. Mandell did a great job
copperly of kicking out and if he could have just
thrown that a little bit leading Vinnie Anthony there was space.
Don't know if you would have scored, but that was

(47:04):
a huge chunk play missed opportunity.

Speaker 2 (47:06):
Sean West on the punts and the kick is away.
Brady will field it at the seventeen, breaking right twenty
twenty five yard line, cutting left of the thirty and
Jonathan Brady will be taking down drover board a lotty
helping lead the charge in punt coverage and Indiana will
have good field position when play resumes. UW Athletics is

Wisconsin Football brought you at bar by UW help a
sports mediciner of the healthcare team for the Badgers and
proud sponsors of UW Athletics. Nine forty six left to
the first half. Indiana seven, Wisconsin nothing. The Hoosiers will
take over at their thirty four yard line, and.

Speaker 7 (49:49):
You know it's we're up here, and it's again, everything's
always easier up here. But just a really good play design.
You have a third down, you end up getting a
perfect call. You have your right guard and right tackle
out there to kick out, and I think Vinny Anthony,
I don't know if you to score, but it would
have been a huge chunk play unable to connect.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
Now the defense back.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
At Roman Hemby. The running back lines up behind the
quarterback Fernando Mendoza, double light to the left, play fake
Mendoza under pressure. Darryl Peterson gets home and down goes Mendoza.
Oh Ma supposed to had a sack to end the
last Indiana possession. DP gets one. Just start the next
IU possession, loss of four.

Speaker 7 (50:29):
And I feel like, again, I've said this a bunch
almost every game, and I know DP was able to
only play the second half last week, but he just
finds he's got a knack for finding a spot if
he goes inside or if he's playing on the edge,
beats his guy immediately off and was not allowed Mendoza
to even set his feet there.

Speaker 3 (50:48):
Great play by DP.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
Second to fourteen. Hoosiers are own thirty yard line. Handoff
Roman Hemby off the right side across a thirty five
yard line, bangs his way near the thirty eight thirty
eight yard line. Looks like they'll place at the thirty
seven on a gain of seven, and it's third down
and seven for with the Hoosiers.

Speaker 7 (51:07):
And this defense now settling in and dictating a little bit. Now,
Indiana sees a little substitution, decides to go a little
tempo here in third and seven.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
Olmark Cooper slapped to the left, snapped the Mendoza Badgers,
bringing five penalty markers down. Mendoza, with a tied pocket
flush to his left, winds up, throws to the left
and it is incomplete intended for Charlie Becker Ricardo Hallman
on the coverage penalty markers down.

Speaker 7 (51:32):
However, I think they're gonna say we jumped, but I
didn't see it, and it did the fake little clap
deal and Mendoza thought he had a free play.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Yes, here's the call.

Speaker 30 (51:43):
Aside defense number fifteen, fiveer penalty third.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
Down, they get Sebastian Cheeks.

Speaker 3 (51:52):
I mean, if it is, it's not by a bunch.
I don't know if we'll be able to see a replay.

Speaker 7 (51:55):
It did not feel like from up here because I
was looking, and obviously the clap and then we snapped.
I did not think Cheeks went across. Obviously the refs did,
and they got a free five yards on a free plan.

Speaker 3 (52:07):
Now third and seven goes to third and.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
Two, first penalty of the game for either team. Indiana
with a third and two from its own forty two
yard line. Cooper's slot to the left hend be the
running back. Now Wakowski motions left. Here's the handoff roll
man Henby and he gets covered up. Jvar sugs first
there and then Mason Posa, and they're gonna be a

(52:29):
little short of the first down, and Signetti's gonna go
ahead and punt on fourth and one from the IU
forty three yard line. At least they'll show it.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
Oh little boop birds coming out.

Speaker 7 (52:41):
He're starting to see a little angst amongst the Indiana faithful.

Speaker 3 (52:44):
But Suggs did a fantastic job of holding the point.

Speaker 7 (52:48):
And you let your young stud linebacker shoot his gun.
He's able to get in there in the backfield and
forcing at least what looks like a punt from Indiana.

Speaker 2 (52:56):
Mitch McCarthy on the punt Tyrell Henry deep at the
Badger twenty yard line, snapped. McCarthy steps up, light pressure,
kicks away end over end, fair catch signaled by Henry.
He'll gather out about the twenty one yard line in
Wisconsin territory. So the Wisconsin defense continues to be very effective.
That was a thirty six yard punts from Mitch McCarthy

Wisconsin begins in its twenty one yard line, seven forty
six left in the first half. Indiana seven, Wisconsin nothing had.
Your defense has allowed one hundred three yards to IU.
Wisconsin has managed just fifty seven. They've left some meat
on the bone. Though they had a big play opportunity
didn't connect on the past to Indie. Anthony had an

(55:33):
impressive drive to open the game, only to have a
miss field goal when Nathaniel Vaco slipped trying to kick
a forty five yarder. But now Carter Smith in the
Wisconsin offense. Back out there, Smith five of eight for
forty yards through the air. At Tuca winds up behind Smith,
Keeckahuna wide left, motions right. Smith will feed Atuca off

(55:55):
the right side of Coross twenty five across at thirty
Get me in at Tuca off to the thirty five
yard line on a gain of fourteen. So the young
man who is impressed against Oregon against Washington, trying to
do some damage now against Indiana. First down for the Badgers.

Speaker 7 (56:09):
Yeah, Tretch Kakahuna comes in motion to the right, to
the right side. They fake that and then just a
really good job by the right side of wiscon the
young fellas over on the right side there in mandelan
coverly of opening up a hole.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
Gideon sees it, He hits it, picks up a big
first down.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Get Touka to the right of Smith, Acre to the left,
Keckahuna slot right, motions left on first and ten for
the Badger thirty five, and here's a little end a
round Tretch Kekahuna across at thirty five. Tretch slips a
tackle and steps out of bounds along the far side
at the thirty nine yard line on a gain of
four second out and six for the Badgers.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
Yeah, a lot of action there for a four yr r.

Speaker 7 (56:48):
Jackson Acre kind of takes a shuffle step left to
kind of try to sell to those linebackers that they're
handing it off to Gideon going left, and Carter Smith
does a pretty good job of ball handling. He ends
up pitch it back and you're able to just go.
Jackson then comes back across this line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
Nice block, picks up four yards.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
Good Anthony Jayden baller to the left, Anthony motions to
the right, and here's a jet sweep Anthony bending right
forty and popped out of bounds by de'angelo Pons just
shy of the forty five, which is what he needs
for the first down about a half a yard short
third down for Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (57:25):
And you know, Kiddy and Atuka, Hey, you're our starting tailback.
You're gonna get a bunch of touches. You're also gonna block.
And that was the case there. You got the jet
sweep out to Vinnie. Gideon's your lead blocker. Does a
pretty good job of covering guys up at setting up
a very short third.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
Down Badger's one out of five so far on third down,
third down less than a yard here about the forty
four and a half they need the forty five acre,
the full back at twok of the tailback Smith thunder
center takes a snamp hand off Jackson Acre pushing he
should have it didn't get much, but he got enough

(58:00):
just to cross the forty five yard line Wisconsin Territory.
First down.

Speaker 7 (58:03):
Feels a little old school there. That feels a little
old school, back to the old days. I can remember
our fullbacks always grab it first downs under center, and
you know it'll be nice for not getting our phones
blown up. That was a nice case where just old
school football. Lineup, give it to your full back. You
don't need three yards, you need about a half a yard.
You pick up a yard, and you keep the chains moving.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
Five twenty three in counting left in the half, seven
to nothing. Indiana Badgers say first intent at they're own
forty five, do a whie to the rights Smith and
the gun takes a stamp play fake back to throw
under pressure and throws it at the feet of Gideon Atouka.
That's a good incompletion because that was a negative yard
it's play. You just take second in ten and that's
what Smith and the Badgers' offense will do.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
Just thinking the exact same thing.

Speaker 7 (58:47):
Indiana has been sitting back to decide on first down,
We're gonna bring a bunch of pressure. Wisconsin unable to
kind of adjust and pick that up. And that's evolving
and understanding what is needed. Their car sees it doesn't
need to take the sack. He just fires it at
the feet of Gideon and you move on to the
next play.

Speaker 2 (59:06):
Linebacker Elijah Hardy was putting the heat on Smith. Two
receivers left, one on the right, second and ten Wisconsin
for the Badger's forty five yard line. Shotgun snapped a
Carter Smith under pressure, flushed to his left, throws to
his left and going down and getting it is the

(59:29):
long time Indianapolis colt back in the day, and Eugene

Speaker 3 (59:35):
That was a kind of a funky delivery.

Speaker 7 (59:37):
You said, Damis Hinesen got beat initially, but stuck with
his block and pushed his man by let Carter Smith
roll out to the left. He did like a funky
little jump twist to be young, and he delivered to

game here to get a manageable third and three.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
Three receivers to the right. Darian Dupree breaks out to
the left, empty backfield for the Indiana forty eight yard line.
Smith called for the calls for the ball, quarterback drawl,

from the freshman and he is very close by. Indiana
looked like it had him pinned with Smith then just
trying to move the pile and is right shit the

(01:00:17):
forty five. They need to get just inside the forty five.
It is fourth down, four h five left in the half,
seven to nothing Indiana Wisconsin, one of one on fourth down. Here,
Smith under center Acre the fullback a took of the tailback.

(01:00:37):
Smith takes playfake watch the throw pops it up wide
up and Lance Mason half the twenty table left sideline
ten five touchdown Wisconsin. They roll the dice and come
up big hits seven six Indiana. Late in the second quarter.

Oh baby, do you love that? You're a You're a

it to Jackson Acer a little full back dive and
you leak Mason out. Indiana sells out to stop it.
Nobody within ten yards of him. Carter Smith delivered it
right where he needed to. And that big chunk play
we've been asking for. Wisconsin delivers on a fourth onund

Last week, Carter Smith scored his first touchdown as a Badger. Today,
he throws for his first touchdown as a Badger forty
five yards on fourth and inches. They go up top
Smith to Lance Mason, Badgers and Hoosiers tied at seven.
Before we move on, let's plats ten seconds for station identification,
ten for an ID. This is Badger football from lear
field three forty two left in the half. Indiana seven,

(01:03:23):
Wisconsin seven. Let's send it downstairs to Patrick.

Speaker 8 (01:03:26):
We've been looking for signs of growth all season, and
one thing Fickle has yearned for is resiliency. How can
this team bounce back from adversity when things don't go
their way. We've seen many times this year a play
goes the wrong way and things just avalanche from there.

Speaker 9 (01:03:40):
Now, this is two games in a row. Last week
against Washington.

Speaker 8 (01:03:43):
They had the block punt, gave up that touchdown. They
didn't fold after that. Similar I think here where missed
field goal, gave up a long touchdown on the next drive.
Things could have gone south here on the road against
the number two team in the country quickly. Instead, defense
forces a punt offense makes a play. There is contagion,
a contagious atmosphere here and energy on the sidelines.

Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
There's Nathaniel vacos Is set to kick off. Roman Heemvy
is deep for Indiana. This will not be returned, as
Patrick mentioned in the notebook, this is the norm for Vecos.
Twenty eight kickoffs from Nathaniel twenty four now have been touchbacks.
Who's your start at their twenty five yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
Well, we're gonna all look at that touchdown.

Speaker 7 (01:04:23):
A great play call, obviously, when it works, it's great.
But the design and when you are struggling for explosive plays,
there is your shot to do it. Indiana was going
to sell out, but a couple of plays earlier, when
Carter Smith is able to avoid that rush going off
to his left and delivering that strike to set that
up to get in that position. It doesn't always just happen.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
On fourth down, Kaylon Black the running back, three receivers left, EJ.
Williams out to the right. Vendoze in the shotgun takes
the stamp, hands off the Black ry to pick his
way off the right side of the line and he'll
get near the thirty. Corey Walker in there to help
the gate for Wisconsin. Still a gain of about five
and Aylon Black is a little slow to get up.

(01:05:07):
Play has stopped and Black will come off if favoring
his left hand or left arm, So Roman Hemby will
check in.

Speaker 7 (01:05:14):
And you're seeing Wisconsin rotating a lot of big fellas
through there. You're seeing Perk a little bit more, you know,
it's been a lot of ben Barton and Suggs. You're
seeing more and more guys kind of working into that rotation,
understanding Indiana's offense and what they're asking. And that's I
think a very good sign moving forward.

Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Second down and five for the Hoosiers at their own
thirty mb to the right of the quarterback, Olamark Cooper
slot to the lefts I mean, Hemby will shift to
the left of Mendoza. On second down, the gift goes
to Henby up the right side, wrapped up by Cooper
Catalano at the thirty four yard line of Indiana. Gain

(01:05:54):
of four and it's third down and one for the Hoosiers.
Indiana two out of four so far and third down.

Speaker 7 (01:06:00):
Yeah, and I'm mentioning, you know, rotating more guys through.
It seems as if one of the things Wisconsin is
looking to do to kind of slow down Indiana is
to jump into that bear front, get Mason Posa off
of the edge and let him kind of do his thing.

Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
Working on that quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Well, Rakowski motions to the formation on third down and one,
Hoosiers at their own thirty four. Here's the hand off
their HIV. He'll fight for the first down. He will
get there as Deanna Hill is over there, Austin Brown
as well. But even one got three? Did Roman? Jem
me to the thirty seven of IU first in ten
with two and a half that it's left in the
second quarter.

Speaker 7 (01:06:32):
Yeah, a lot of patients there with what Indiana is doing.
You'd think, all right, Wisconsin goes down and scores on
a big play. Let your heisman quarterback eat a little bit, run, run, run,
trying to kind of work this clock, trying to go
get points here before the end of the half went
the two.

Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
Ant timeout coming up. Indiana has all three timeouts of
available for the Hoosier's thirty seven yard line. Men Doza
quick shot right side Noakowski the catch and he gets
pulled out of ounds by Mason Posa. So the former
Badger Nowakowski gets his first catch today and will stop
the clock just for a second. Now it'll roll and
get to the two minute time out. There's no place
of the forty two of Indiana. After a five yard gain,

(01:07:07):
we'll keep it here as we hit the two minute
time out. Two minutes t remaining in the first half,
Wisconsin and Indiana are tied at seven.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
A nice veteran move there by Mason Posa.

Speaker 7 (01:07:20):
He's yeah, getting Noakowski out of bounds, and maybe you
throw it a little bit late, but then throws the
arms up. Make sure, Hey, I know yet. Patrick mentioned this,
and I think it is worth repeating. The resiliency and
this defense has been asked to do a lot this year.
They have given everything they've had. You saw it in

(01:07:41):
Oregon obviously, we saw it last week. And I think
there's one of the things when you're having a season
that's not going the way you like, you kind of
get that woe is me. I've been on not very
many teams, thankfully, but they're kind of a something bad happen.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
It's on the road.

Speaker 7 (01:07:56):
Oh they're better, they're number two team, and they give
up that touch down, miss the field Wisconsin, missus the
field goal they got out of score, and you show
we're not going to give into that, and the rest
of the team fuels on that, and then your offense
goes out and does something. You're kind of winning the
special teams battle. So this defense is the belcow of
this football team. They have bowed up and have made

(01:08:18):
things incredibly difficult for this Indiana team. And you know,
we all get caught up in Mendoz and he's nine
to ten for ninety four, but what you can you
hold him on the ground. This group has been so
good against the running game all season, and so far
in this half, twelve carries twenty six yards.

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
And Carter Smith is seven of eleven for ninety one
yards through the air.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
I guess that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Yeah, I'm me. I'll freely admit that pass play of
forty five yards the longest four Wisconsin sent Billy Edwards
when he played briefly in that Maryland game. He and
Tretch Kako Huna hooked up for forty five.

Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
Laidie, I thought you were going to say something a
lot longer.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
Yeah, exactly tells you. You said something after the game
last week. The old line seeing is believing, and you
mentioned that you weren't sure how many people outside the
locker room thought they could win. You weren't sure if
everybody in the locker room believed that they could win.
You mentioned you haven't been on teams that have had
tough years much at all. In your football life. But
have you ever gone into a game thinking No, I

(01:09:18):
don't think so.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
I mean, I would admit it if I did. But
there obviously there are some seasons.

Speaker 7 (01:09:23):
We went four and twelve in one of my seasons
up in Green Bay, and you always kind of felt
like with Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers, you had an opportunity.
And as that season was unfolding, there were some games
that you did kind of get where you're moving the football,
but something bad would happen, and it is a really
hard thing in that locker room to make sure you

(01:09:46):
keep that positivity and at some point you're going to
run out you need to refill. Was so important because
at tank isn't empty. If you're a defensive player, you
need to at least throw me a little something to
get this thing home.

Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
You got that.

Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
Now you kind of get the feeling like, all right,
we're gassed back up, but let's get back on this train.

Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
And right now we are right in this football game.

Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
Indiana has all of its timeouts available. They have a
second down and five at their forty two yard line
two minutes left in the second quarter. Badgers and Hoosiers
tied at seventh, Charlie Pecker comes out wide to the left,
o Mark Cooper in the slot, Roman Hemby and E. J.
Williams out to the right. Riley Nowakowski is winging right
motions left Mity backfield behind. Mendoza takes the stamp Badgers

(01:10:33):
bringing four middle screen Dowakowski forty five to the fifty.
Nowakowski forty five, cutting right to the forty thirty five
yard line thirty twenty five yard line and pushed out
of ounds by Austin Brown out just outside the twenty
yard line though mark of the twenty one Riley Noaikowski.
He had a big catch in that game winning drive
last week as well against Penn State, and a big

(01:10:53):
catch here in Indiana with a threat.

Speaker 7 (01:10:56):
Just really nice job by Indiana's interior three. They're in
their two guards of getting their down linemen out of
the way to give a little bit of a viewpoint
there for Mendoza to get it to Noakowski and then
get up at that next level, get the linebackers out
of the way.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
Everybody else is running.

Speaker 7 (01:11:12):
Noakowski is able to elude one tackler and make a
big chunk player Game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Of thirty seven for Nolakowski bought the Wisconsin twenty one
first and ten Mendoza thanks to hand off the Henby
now under pressure from Peters sid and help from Mason
Riger and down goes Fernando Mendoza outside the twenty five
yard line of Wisconsin. It is sacked number three for

(01:11:36):
the Wisconsin defense today. Indiana using its first time out
with a minute forty four left of the first half.
That was a loss of six second out and sixteen.
Indiana was sacked three times by Penn State last week
and now has surrendered thirteen sacks on the season, six
in the last game of the half.

Speaker 7 (01:11:55):
And I was just going to say, as were coming
out of the two minute timeout, you saw what Alabama
and some other teams have done where they just kind
of say, all right, you're really good against the run,
we're gonna throw it. Well, that's if you could protect
Alabama's offensive line very good.

Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
Indiana's got a.

Speaker 7 (01:12:11):
Really good left tackle, their right tackle has given some
stuff up. They've shown some things and Wisconsin, I think
Field felt pretty good coming in. And we can get
him in a town of distance that we can go,
We're gonna be able to put some pressure on Mendoza,
and so far in this half, outside of that one
touchdown drive, you're seeing a lot of pressure. Three sacks
DP again beat the right tackle there, got in his face.

(01:12:34):
And I don't care Heisman quarterback or not. You get
around a quarterback and get in his face. That's how
you stop good passing attack.

Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
Second in sixteen Indiana at the Wisconsin twenty seven yard line,
slot left slot, light snap the Mendoza Badgers bringing three
Mendoza with time throws deep over the medal incomplete, intended
for Charlie Becker at the goal line, tight coverage from
Riccardo hollman Man. It's third in sixteen Indiana at the
Wisconsin twenty seven with a minute thirty nine left in

(01:13:03):
the half. We are tied at seven.

Speaker 7 (01:13:04):
And when you start putting a little bit of pressure
on all of a sudden, now that offensive coordinator so well,
maybe we need to bring a tight end in or
leave it back in to help. And that takes one
person out of your route. And as a quarterback, you
want as many people out in routes as you can.
And when you limit that there.

Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
As you see a high sailing throw in the end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
Three receivers left one on the right, hem Bey the
running back on third and long man. Those are the
throw swings the left, Henvy the catch at the thirty
twenty five Sugs racing over there to get him down
inside the twenty and a violent collision inside the twenty
to the nineteen yard line. That was Mason Posa who
just emptied the truck on him. Be there a minute
twenty two and counting left in the half. And now

(01:13:47):
Indiana brings on the field goal team.

Speaker 7 (01:13:49):
And here's where I would like to see us use
the timeout. I understand where we're at, but you're gonna
let this thing run down and you if you stop it.
It was about one thirty five in the is gonna
let this thing turned down to get under a minute
and try to take a ten to seven lead.

Speaker 2 (01:14:04):
Here Niko Radocich has yet to miss this season. Thirty
seven yard try inside the left hashmarks app spot kick
is away and it is good. He remains perfect thirteen
for thirteen. Try to jinks them. Yeah good, I like that,
all right?

Speaker 7 (01:14:19):
He did everything you could do. Boy, there is a
lot of wind. Yeah, that thing did not go through
what was it thirty seven yards?

Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (01:14:28):
Yeah, it was hung under forty. Yeah, I was thinking,
is he got enough there to get it there? He did,
And I'll tell you what this defense has been. We
shouldn't be surprised, right. I know Indiana's offense is really good,
but I think one of the things that you came
into this in the physicality of Indiana, I think is
underrated our defense, and especially when you start thinking back

(01:14:51):
to the back end of last season where it was
tough to watch, Yes the Nebraska in the Iowa game
where we were just mauled. That has not been issue
all season and matter of fact, they are getting better
and deeper as the season is going, and we're seeing
it in this first half.

Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
So you would think with this win being as it is,
there's a return chance. Here fifty five seconds left in
the half. It is ten to seven Indiana leading Wisconsin.
Benny Anthony is deep. He's standing about three yards deep
in the end zone, and here's the kick. You'll have

(01:15:28):
a chance to run up on it. Vinnie will field
right side at the five. He is to the ten fifteen,
Anthony the twenty twenty five yard line and up to
the twenty eighth and now we'll see what Jeff Grimes
and company do. With fifty seconds left in the half,
Indiana leached ten to seven. Remember, Indiana will receive to
start the second half.

Speaker 7 (01:15:47):
And this is always, I think obviously normally, if you
have your first quarterback or your second quarterback, are maybe
even your third quarterback, you're probably looking at this. Let's
go well here, you know what, Smith's seven of eleven
ninety one. He's made a couple of nice throws. This
is where you want to make sure you get that
big chunk play to start to kind of get the

(01:16:09):
ball roller.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Badgers have two timeouts available. At twok of the running back,
Smith will hand it to Gideon up the middle across
the thirty to the thirty one yard line, gain of
about three Isaiah Jones on the tackle, and the clock
will run forty seconds in counting left of the break.
So the Badger's showing the appearance of just burning off
the time. We'll see ten to seven Indiana Badgers huddling

(01:16:36):
down to twenty five seconds left in the half.

Speaker 7 (01:16:39):
I think that they are definitely with that approach. Maybe
it'll be a little sneak attack here, who knows.

Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Double wide to the right down to fifteen seconds left
in the half, Lance Mason in motion to the left.
Smith will give it to a Tuca again getting in
across the thirty five and up to the thirty seven
yard line, and time will run out here in the
first half, so the Badgers just go ahead and burn
off the remaining time and three points separating these teams

(01:17:07):
as they head to their locker rooms. The first half
has come to an end. Run the Wisconsin defense outstanding
Indiana one hundred and fifty nine yards of offense, one
forty five for Wisconsin. A couple of touchdown passes, one
from Fernando Mendoza of thirty one yards Carter Smith a
forty five yard toss to Lance Mason at the half

Mike Keller with you at Memorials Stadium in Bloomington, and
it is just ten seven Indiana at the half. They
are second ranked in the country.

Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
Let me give you a couple of numbers on Indiana.

Speaker 20 (01:20:28):
They have one of the top ten defenses in America,
and offensively, they're the highest scoring team in the land
at forty five and a half points per game. They're
top ten in most offensive statistics. Well, here are the
stats that stand out in the first half.

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
A I told you.

Speaker 20 (01:20:45):
It's ten to seven Indiana at the half. Total yards
Indiana one fifty nine Wisconsin one forty five, first downs
eight for Indiana, seven to four Wisconsin. So what the
Badgers have been able to to do defensively is really
kind of remarkable. They have sacked Mendoza three times, they

(01:21:09):
have four total TFLs, Indiana has five, and Wisconsin converts
on a big fourth down inside of four minutes to play.
In the first half, Wisconsin was in a fourth and
one scenario in plus territory. So they go fourth and
one at the Indiana forty five and a play action

(01:21:30):
fake and a throw to Lance Mason, and nobody went
with him. He went up the left sideline and Carter
Smith just laid it out there. He didn't lead him,
just put it right on him. Because there was no
defender within twenty yards of Lance Mason. Who then turned
and ran to the end zone a forty five yard
fourth and one conversion. That's Wisconsin's touchdown. But the Batchers

(01:21:55):
also missed a field goal on their opening possession, or
we could be talking about a ten ten game at
the half. How about Mario Mendoza, who's a Heisman candidate.
Certainly maybe in many books he was the lead candidate
coming in. He's eleven for thirteen, one hundred and thirty
nine yards and a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
That's fine.

Speaker 20 (01:22:13):
Carter Smith, who last week was outthrown by his punter
in the game, Carter Smith is seven of eleven in
the first half for ninety one yards and a touchdown.
Giddy and I took a eight carries for thirty five yards.
Smith is added five carries for three sack. Yardage goes
against him there, but all in all, an impressive first

Back whether you at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, a
picture perfect great November day, mid November, and it's seventy
plus degrees here at game time, and we are at
halftime with Indiana leading Wisconsin ten to seven. Bilschmid, host
of the postgame show, steps in and joins me and Billy.
This is an even game by all measures, statistically and

(01:29:39):
essentially on the scoreboard. Wisconsin missed a forty five yard
field goal on the first drive. Otherwise we'd be dead
even in a game that Indiana was favored by more
than four touchdowns.

Speaker 43 (01:29:50):
Yeah, in a game that features a true freshman making
his first start on the road in a newly dawned,
hostile environment in Bloomington, India, at one of the fifty
eight memorial stadiums in college football. But you're talking about
a team that is second ranked in the country. They
have the potential Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback. They're as

(01:30:12):
discussed as any team in the country, rightfully so. But
the Badgers. You mentioned it evenly. The stats would show it,
but I think the tape does as well. There's been
no side that has felt manhandled on either side of anything.
The Badger defense has maybe been the most impressive unit
on the field so far for the first thirty minutes.
Mark said it in the last couple of minutes of

(01:30:34):
the first half, maybe something we should not be surprised in.
But the caliber of Indiana and what you've seen them
do to some of the best teams in the country,
it is a little bit surprising. But hey, now you're
in the ballgame. Now you got to keep yourself in
it and see if you give yourself a chance to
have a chance.

Speaker 20 (01:30:49):
Billy, after indian Is opening drive netted a touchdown on
their second drive, I'm talking about Wisconsin's defense now on
a third and two Mason posts that got a sack
for seven yards, forced to punt on Indian and his
third drive on a third and two him Be tried
to run and Wisconsin limited him to a yard. They
punted again. In big scenarios in the first half. Wisconsin

(01:31:12):
has been very good defensively on the stuff.

Speaker 43 (01:31:15):
They've come up with the biggest play and you mentioned
him right out of the gates, Mason Post has been
the most imposing player on the field. I mean Darryl
Peterson with a sack and a half in a TfL
as well. Those numbers are amazing, but Post has been
all over the place. And whether or not it was
that third down play, the Saka Mendoza also later on
into the half just set different types of tones and

(01:31:39):
teams have not been able to pressure him the way
the Badgers have now. Maybe it is a little bit
of a homecoming feel that there was a thought that
eleven am game or rollout the helmets that enjoy a
start of the month of November. But the Badger's defense
I think has maybe woken up the Hoosiers because the
physicality has definitely been felt, especially in those got to

(01:31:59):
have downs. They're holding number one point five yards of
Toad this is something Indiana has not felt all year long.

Speaker 20 (01:32:05):
Mason Posa has a sack you mentioned, Darryl Peterson has
one and a half riiger at the other half of
that one. Wisconsin has been in the backfield and made
Indiana uncomfortable. I expected to see the number two ranked
team in the country exert some of their will. Maybe
they still will in the second half on Wisconsin. But
this Badger defense that played so well at Oregon bad

(01:32:26):
weather conditions, played so well against Washington bad weather conditions
here in a perfect day. Today, they're telling you that
it wasn't just the weather that has this defense playing well.

Speaker 3 (01:32:36):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 43 (01:32:37):
And Mike, I think there's another thing to it that
once you fill up the tank, as Tush said earlier on,
you get a little bit of confidence that brings some
wind into your sales and it can continue to carry you.
You needed to see and a little bit of proof
of what you were doing was going to result in
a w And now you're seeing a little bit more
complimentary onto the offensive side doing their part.

Speaker 20 (01:32:59):
Bill last twenty seconds, how about the stones on the
fourth and one.

Speaker 43 (01:33:02):
Call phenomenal, But it's also what you have to do
right you walk into this game.

Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
You mentioned it.

Speaker 43 (01:33:07):
I think some institutions added at a thirty point difference.
You have to go in, make a play and give
it yourself a chance. And hey, what a great way
for Carter Smith to taste the end zone through the
air for.

Speaker 3 (01:33:18):

big for him.

Speaker 8 (01:37:46):
A big message coming out of the locker room was
this is a line game both ways. Push on them,
push on them. I heard one of the coaches say,
put your autograph on them and sign it. That's kind
of the message here. There is this little swag are
coming now out of this Wisconsin locker room. They know
Indiana has not been in many four quarter games this season,

(01:38:06):
certainly have not been in one here in this environment,
and they'd love to see what this crowd starts to
look like if this game is still close in the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
All right, Badgers, we'll be kicking off. Indiana will receive it,
go left to right as we see it north the
south here at Memorial Stadium, big crowd and why not
Indiana ten and oh ranks second in the country. But
the Badgers are giving them a push at least through
the first half of play. As Daniel Vacos gets set

(01:38:36):
to kick off, the ball falls off the tee. That
breeze still there between fifteen and twenty miles per hour
it's seventy one degrees here in Bloomington.

Speaker 3 (01:38:45):
It's one hundred and two up here. You did all right,
I'll make it.

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Got the hydrate.

Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
M got me a bottle war or all hydrate.

Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
You're gonna look back at this finally next Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Prop here we go.

Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
Here's Vecos with the kick in the air. This will
not be returned to touch back. The Hoosiers begin at
their twenty five yard line at quarter number three is underway.

Speaker 7 (01:39:05):
And Patrick just mentioned as the line game we thought
coming in physicality, and Wisconsin defensively has been fantastic a
little bit on that one drive where they did go
down and get a touchdown, but to hold this team
to twenty yards rushing, and you know, Mendoza is very
efficient at eleven of thirteen. He's been doing but a
lot of times you would think, well, why not keep

(01:39:27):
doing it? It's because Wisconsin has found ways to disrupt,
get in the backfield and get them an uncomfortable yards
long down third and distance.

Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Got to continue to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:39:38):
Haylon Black back of the game was shaken up a
bit of the second quarter. The running back lines up
to the right of the QB. Fernando Mendoza, who takes
the snaphands to blackle up the left side that he
is taken down at the line of scrimmage. Good work
by the quarterback Deanni Hill. No gain on the play,
second and ten for IU.

Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
Yeah, Wisconsin's d line did a really good job of
just forcing him.

Speaker 7 (01:39:59):
To continue to look and look and look and bounce
and bounce and bouncing. Hill is there for another tackle
out on the perimeter, keeping it at second and ten.
Really nice job by the front of Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:40:09):
Charlie Becker comes out wide to the left, two receivers
to the right, pistol formation, now Black behind Mendoza. He
takes stamp hands to Black off the left side and
Mason Posta is all over him. Wow, he just grilled
him at the twenty eight yard line. Maybe the only
the twenty seven. As a matter of fact, it'll be
a third down and long coming up for Indiana.

Speaker 7 (01:40:29):
And Indiana is sticking with it. They're staying patient. They're
going to try and run the football. And that is
at least the second or third time. Didn't even really
see who it was. You heard far sideline. You can
hear the pads popping.

Speaker 2 (01:40:42):
Mason Posta both times third and eight Indiana for the
Hoosiers twenty seven yard line. Tyro skeens out there as
part of the Badger defense. Mendoza back to throw, looking
pressure at Flins. It left scene Becker up and makes
the catch inside the thirty yard line. Austin Brown on
the tackle on a beautiful pass. Becker another big catch

(01:41:02):
first down Indiana at the Wisconsin twenty five.

Speaker 7 (01:41:06):
Really good route by Becker there, and you cannot drop
the ball any better than Mendoza. They tackled I think
it was Walker. They tackled him. He'd ran over the center.
Mendoza stayed in the pocket, give him credit and delivered
an absolute dot to Becker.

Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
Big huge play on a third and long at.

Speaker 7 (01:41:25):
Is a big that's one of those you mark down
as a game changing type.

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
Play forty eight yards on the pass play Indiana first
intenda the Wisconsin twenty five. Two receivers left one on
the right. Mendoza hands off to Klon Black up the
left hash marks and he'll twist his way down near
the twenty of Wisconsin Brandon lane first to make the hit.
See where they place here, maybe the twenty one of Wisconsin.

(01:41:50):
That's where they'll market gain of four second down and
six for Indiana.

Speaker 7 (01:41:55):
Lane did a nice job of beating the right guard
Lynch just able to get off of an edge, but
still they were able to pick up four yards on that.

Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
First dount carry Becker out wide to the left. He's
with Deanni Hill Well Mark Cooper to the right, pistol formation,
Rollman Hemby in the backfield, Mendoza, we'll give it to him.
Hen be off the right side inside the thirty, inside
the twenty five yard line, and finally Matt Young makes
the tackle inside the fifteen and near the thirteen, and
just like that, it's first in ten Indiana, penetrating ever

(01:42:25):
deeper into Wisconsin territory.

Speaker 7 (01:42:27):
That nice job by Indiana's offensive line of just kind
of covering people up and then getting up on that
next level covering up Catialano allowed him to be able
to kind of shift and move and pick up that
first down.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Benker comes out wide to the left, Cooper to the rights,
and be the running back first in ten Indiana at
the Wisconsin thirteen yard line. Mb will shift to the
right of the QB and Dooza play fake flips the
right side that's caught by Cooper and he is driven
back immediately inside the ten yard line. Deanni Hill over
there for Wisconsin forward progress. We'll get Omar Cooper to

(01:42:59):
the eight of Wisconsin on the gain of five. Second
down coming up.

Speaker 7 (01:43:04):
And that's what you're looking for. Does Mendoza does a
great job of getting kind of his arm angle. He
had a little rush in his face side armed it
out there. But when you do that, you come, you
close the gap and you make that tackle. No yak So,
while it was a nice play by Mendoz, a nice
job by Hill getting him down on the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:43:21):
Hooper slot left, EJ. Williams wide right, motions to the formation,
has Mendoza hands off to Rollman Hendy crashing inside the five,
brought down by Dionni Hill near the two. First down
goal to go Indiana, and they're gonna get right back
on the ball they placed at the two of Wisconsin
first and goal NB stays in there. There's Mendoza hands

(01:43:47):
off the Henvy off the left side of the line.
Not much if anything is he got tied up right
away at the point of attack. That was Sebastian Cheeks
getting in there for Wisconsin second in goal Indiana at
the two we have ten forty left to the third quarter,
ten to seven Indiana.

Speaker 7 (01:44:04):
It felt like Indiana thought they had Wisconsin reel in
a little bit there, trying to get go up quick
and run tempo, not letting Wisconsin get into their goal
line package. Now, Wisconsin does bring in some of their
goal line cats here.

Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
Including Charles Perkins second and goal Ibatch Wiley Noakowski lining
up at fullback playfake, Mendoza flips it right side, caught touchdown,
Indiana holding stage. The tight end leaks out free right
side of the end zone, and it's sixteen to seven Indiana.

Speaker 7 (01:44:34):
Just a really good play design and their tight end
did a pretty good job of picking up the Wisconsin
free runner at Mendoza, and Mendoza saw that pressure, continued
to backpedal out of it and just lofted it over
Mason Posa for the not easy touchdown, but a really
well designed play and executed by Mendoza at a high level.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
The impressive drive, the big play, the forty eight yard
pass on third and eight. Those are the Charlie Becker.
It's Nico Radichichan for the pat that is in the air,

(01:47:40):
And with ten nineteen left in the third quarter, it's
now seventeen to seven, Indiana leading Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (01:47:45):
And I told you to bookmark that big throw on
third and eight. To Becker, it was just you do
all that work to get in that position. It's a
ten to seven game, and if you can get the
ball back for your offense, you can kind of all right,
kind of settle in a little bit, maybe go down
and take a lead. And that's what really good teams do.
They find ways to make a play. Mendoza through an

(01:48:07):
absolute perfect throw. They protected good enough to let him
execute that play, and then after that they ran the ball,
they were able to kind of go down and finish
that drive. But just a big time play by a
big time player in a big time moment in that game,
and that was one to bookmark. Is obviously huge drive
instead of it being ten to seven. At seventeen to.

Speaker 2 (01:48:26):
Seven, Vinny Anthony Deep for Wisconsin again. Indiana kicking into
the wind here Quinn, Warren and alein the kickoff duties
should be an opportunity here for Vinnie. Here's a kick
in the air. Anthony will take it at the goal line,
right side five to the ten, cutting left fifteen Anthony
the t twenty five thirty Vinnie up near the thirty

(01:48:47):
five yard line. A good return from Vinnie. Anthony Woll
recalling that Alabama game back in September, he brought one
back ninety five yards to the house. That was after
Alabama had to kick off from its own twenty following
a penalty. Andy with a nice return there. First in
ten four Wisconsin at the badger of thirty five.

Speaker 3 (01:49:04):
Yeah, he was mad at himself.

Speaker 7 (01:49:05):
You saw him kind of pounding the ground after because
one guy kind of tripped him up. He did a
great job of cutting back. The blocking was really good,
and I think Vinnie thought of he.

Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Could have just got by.

Speaker 7 (01:49:15):
Maybe he could have replicated what we saw down at
Tuscaloosa a couple months ago.

Speaker 2 (01:49:20):
Play Mark at the thirty four of Wisconsin first and ten,
Gene Hilton comes out wide to the rights, Anthony to
the left, a Tuka the running back to the right
of Smith. Working from the shotgun. They'll get the stamp
from Davis Hinzen back to throw as Smith looking fresher
checks down, he'll throw it to a touch on the
right side. Indiana closes quickly and a Tuca gets stopped

(01:49:43):
at the thirty four yard line, right at the line
of scrimmage, with Elijah Hardy, a sophomore linebacker out of Lakeland, Florida,
on the tackle.

Speaker 7 (01:49:50):
Yeah, Carter stayed in the pocket, did a pretty good
job and then felt it late, got rid of the football.
Indiana has plenty of guys there kind of sitting back
in that zone, gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:50:00):
Let anybody just run free. It's a good job of
gang tackling there for no game.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Second down and ten Badgers at their thirty four Chris
Brooks fitting Anthony out to the left tretch Kakahuna to
the right. Tuca remains the running back. It's Kakahuna motions left,
jet sweep left, turning it up his tretch thirty five
tretch Kakahuna up to the forty yard line. Lewis Moore
out of the second Aya up to make the play
defensively for IU gain of six for Kekahuna and it's

(01:50:27):
third and four for the Badgers. They were two out
of seven converting on third down to the first half.

Speaker 3 (01:50:33):
A really nice job of blocking again, Gideon, Hey, you
gotta go block.

Speaker 7 (01:50:36):
Brooks did a good job of kind of holding his
guy and Tretch really looked like a running back there
the way he was able to set his blocks up
and go, and he ended up, you know, picking up
six yards, setting up a very manageable third and four.

Speaker 2 (01:50:48):
Empty backfield at the moment. Now at Tuca and Kakahuna
will motion into the backfield flanking the quarterback quarters Smith
for the Badger's forty yard line. Third down, four yards
to go, snap the Smith, you'll hand off to a
Tuca who gets hit right away by Stephen Daily back
behind the line of scrimmage. They'll place at the thirty

(01:51:09):
seven a loss of three for the transfer out of
Kent State. Stephen Daily makes a big play and a
Tuca is down flat on his back and receiving attention
right now for the medical staff.

Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
Ugh, now, you hate to see that. Too much penetration.

Speaker 7 (01:51:30):
Gideon actually was tackled and got back up, and I
think where he ended up getting hurt was on his
second effort that actually was blown dead, and you just hope,
you know he's laying there, You hope that he's gonna
be all right.

Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
Here, we have eight minutes and thirty five seconds left
in the third quarter. It's seventeen to seven, Indiana leading Wisconsin.
As I think we'll go ahead and take a full
time out here, Yes we will. We'll step away with
eight thirty five I've left of the third quarter. Indiana

Dot Eight minutes, thirty five seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Here in Bloomington, Indiana, Elites Wisconsin seventeen to seven Badgers.
Running back Gideon Attuca remains down. They have brought the
cart outs. Took a hard hit from Stephen Daily or

(01:53:58):
a good defensive lineman, an excellent defensive unit for Indiana.
Players on both teams are down on a knee right now.
There's a lot of medical personnel around Gideon Atuca, who
has been really a terrific story here in the in
recent weeks, his performance against Oregon, his performance last week.

(01:54:18):
I'm doing some good things today. But now the concern
is all directed toward Gideon Atuca.

Speaker 7 (01:54:26):
Yeah, and you know this is obviously football is an
incredibly physical game.

Speaker 3 (01:54:30):
But you just see, you know, the Indiana whole team
down on a knee.

Speaker 7 (01:54:35):
Everybody wants everybody to be healthy, and you know, you
just hope from Gideon standpoint, you always are going to
proceed with a ton of caution with any injury, and
that's what we're hoping for here.

Speaker 8 (01:54:48):
Patrick, what do you have, Well, no one wants to
speculate obviously at this time, but they've put him on
a on a back brace here and they're supporting his neck.

Speaker 9 (01:54:56):
I can tell you this, he does have movement in
his hands and arms.

Speaker 8 (01:54:59):
So at times like this, you're looking for things like
that that say, Okay, he has feeling in his extremities.

Speaker 9 (01:55:04):
And that's about all you can say at this point.
But that's that's a positive in my mind.

Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
Appreciate that as he is surrounded, so it's hard for
us to see even from up here in our in
our booth. It will when play resumes, it'll be fourth
down and seven for the Badgers at their thirty seven
yard line. It is seventeen to seven Indiana with eight
minutes and thirty five seconds left in the third quarter.

(01:55:32):
And as it looks like they're about ready to put
Gideon on onto the cart. Thing Man, red shirt freshman
out of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and he featured him last week.
He got to see his brother play basketball. He is
on the Northern Illinois team, and Gideon surprised his brother
and it was quite a moment just outside the Northern

(01:55:54):
Illinois locker room last Friday. And then Saturday, Gideon had
himself a good day, rushing for seventy three yards as
the Badger's bead Washington. And now they continue, multiple folks
in the medical personnel down there attending to Gideon Attuca
as they will put him now onto the cart. If

(01:56:19):
by chance we get any updates, we will certainly pass
it along. There's a players from both teams, and this
crowd of fifty two thousand here a memorial stadium offering
their encouragement, and every Badger player making their way now
from the sideline over to the cart. I can tell

(01:56:47):
you just you don't get to know guys really well.
And then and this is his second year and you
get a chance to talk to him. We had an
interview with him the previous week going into the Washington game,
and he's such an engaging guy. Even after practice this week,
he'd come over and say hi, and so, so they
will go ahead and tend to him and give him

(01:57:11):
more attention. To Patrick.

Speaker 8 (01:57:12):
Well, you're getting a cheer from the crowd here, and
part of it is because Gideon has got both of
his thumbs up in the air as he's being carted
off very slowly. You could tell even just the speed
at which the cart is moving off the field. It
gives you, gives you pause because they're taking it so
slowly to make sure that they don't rattle him. But
he's moving his hands around quite a bit and gave
the thumbs up. That's what the crowd was reacting to.

Speaker 2 (01:57:35):
We will go ahead, mart No I was.

Speaker 7 (01:57:36):
I always get really nervous when the players immediately after
the whistle start looking up and yelling and getting people
out there, and so it's Patrick's report.

Speaker 3 (01:57:48):
That's great news that he's putting his thumbs up.

Speaker 7 (01:57:50):
And you know, from a playing standpoint, it is really
difficult to flip that switch after you see one of
your brothers getting carted off the field. And it's on
the same side from Indiana side. Everybody understands these risks
when you go out and play, and it's another thing
when it showcases itself and you just everybody here is
hoping for the best.

Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
Obviously, it is fourth and seven for the Badgers at
their thirty seven yard line. Stephen Holder, the deep man
for the Hoosiers standing inside the IU ten sean West
out there to punt. So we are set to resume
play with Indiana leading by ten here in the third quarter.

(01:58:28):
This Brook starts in motion here the snap back to
West and the kick is away. When it is back now,
it is fielded by a Holder at the fourteen, cutting
right across at fifteen to the twenty five to the
thirty yard line and gets wrapped up there across the thirty.
I said, Holder, that's Jonathan Brady. You beg your pardon
on the punt return for Indiana and the Hoosiers will

(01:58:49):
begin first and ten with eight thirteen left in quarter three,
seventeen to seven, Indiana leading Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (01:58:57):
And it is always a challenge you to kind of
reset and rebring that energy.

Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
You just have a tough stop.

Speaker 7 (01:59:04):
You see one of your teammates, they cart it off
and now your defense, this is obviously a huge possession
to make a stop. You got to reset and rebring
that energy, and it is a very difficult thing to do.
You're looking for someone to kind of set it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Here on first down coast and ten for Indiana. Kobe Martin,
a redshirt freshman out of Fisher's Indiana now the running back.
You go to snap them in Indoza, You'll hand it
off to Martin and crashing down as Darryl Peterson Martin
across at thirty five to the thirty six yard line
on a game of four shut it down in six
for the Hoosiers.

Speaker 7 (01:59:38):
Yeah, Darryl Peterson again just does a good job off
of the left end on the right side of Indiana's
offensive line, kind of staying with it. Boll bounces back
out to him and Darryl is right there, wrapping him
up and getting him down.

Speaker 23 (01:59:51):
On the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
Mart remains in there at running back. Two receivers left EJ.
Williams out to the rights. Thewakowski in motion lines up
winging the left side for the EU thirty six yard line.
Man Dooz against the shotgun stamp looking pressured by Peterson.
Another sack for Darryl Peterson BacT just outside the twenty
five yard line, his second sack today and the fourth
for the Badger's defense.

Speaker 7 (02:00:12):
Yeah, he just does an inside move on Khalil Benson,
the right tackle for Indiana, and it looked like from
up here he thought his guard was gonna slide out
there with him. I think DP beat him so quick.
He thought for a second, where's the guard? And again,
it's one thing to beat your guy, then it's another
thing to get down, get in there and make the play.
He got Mendoza again at second for Daryl today.

Speaker 2 (02:00:35):
Third and fifteen Indiana well the Hoosiers twenty seven yard line.
Two receivers either side snap the Menzoza out of the gun,
whips it to the right.

Speaker 5 (02:00:43):
EJ.

Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
Williams. The catch gets capped out of bounds by a
Millio a guard at the forty yard line. A couple
of yards shy of the stick and Signetti will send
on the punt team again, the crowd not liking it.
Your team's second in the country.

Speaker 7 (02:01:00):
Man, quick light up, Francis, you get chet, You're up ten.
Your defense has been pretty dog on effective. But that's
again that lost yardage play Mendoza fifteen to seventeen. But
you've been able to get him down on the ground,
putting him in long third downs. That's a beautiful throw,
but you left two yards short and you're forced to punt.

Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
It's McCarthy on the punt. Tyrell Henry is deep punt
his end over end. Henry will catch you at the
twelve fifteen yard line, slifts to tackle twenty and Tyrell
Henry advances up near the twenty three yard line forty
eight yards on the punt, eleven on the returns. We
will take another break. Sisconsin Football brought to you in

Speaker 2 (02:03:42):
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds you to always drive
sober zero in Wisconsin. Together, we can save lives or
more at zero in Wisconsin. Dot go, let's plaust ten
seconds for station identification. This is Badger football from lear
Field six nineteen left in the third quarter seventeen to seven.
Indiana leads to Wisconsin. The Badgers of a fir at
their twenty two yard line Derrion Dupree. Now they're running

(02:04:05):
back double wide to the right. Smith out of the gun.
It's the snap. He'll feed Derry on Dupree trying the
left side, riding his way up across the twenty five
and wrapped up by Aiden Fisher at the twenty six
on a gain of four. Patrick, what do you have
right now on Gideon Atoco.

Speaker 8 (02:04:23):
I don't have much other than I can tell you
that he was transported to a local hospital here in Bloomington, Indiana,
and as we as we noted, he had movement in
his upper extremities.

Speaker 9 (02:04:32):
That's a good sign.

Speaker 8 (02:04:32):
They take him there as a precaution to make sure
everything is okay, spinal neck, have anything like that. So
thought some prayers to him and hopefully he'll check out
okay at the hospital.

Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
All right, thank you, Patrick. Two receivers right, one on
the left, Dupree the running back of the twenty six
yard line, Wisconsin territory, Kakahuna motions left handoff dupre trying
to run right and they have him boxed in, dropped
behind the line of scrimmage. And that's Stephen Day again,
who's been a factor in this third quarter. That's a
loss back to the twenty three of Wisconsin. Loss of three,

(02:05:02):
make it third down and nine.

Speaker 7 (02:05:04):
Just a little bit too much coming off of Wisconsin's
right side of their offensive line. Got good penetration and
you had all kinds of eye candy there, fake handoffs
and jet sweeps, but you gave it to Dupre right away.
Indiana smelled that out, got that penetration, got him down
and now setting up a long third down opportunity.

Speaker 2 (02:05:22):
Tyrrell, Henry, Vinnie, Anthony, Chris Brooks trips to the left,
Henry motions to the right, and they faked the jet sweep.
Quarters Smith not lurs by Steven Daily scrambled for it
at the twenty one yard line. Are Stephen Daily all
over into the third quarter force fumble recovered by Indiana,
and there's the first turnover of the game. That was

(02:05:46):
hosea Wheeler coming up with the loose ball and now
Indiana in position to pop it open.

Speaker 7 (02:05:52):
Yeah, Wisconsin did again well, fake jet sweep, Carter Smith
keeping it the whole way, and nobody bought it. They
knew what was coming, and that's that's Carter trying to
make a play. Free runner coming at him. He gave
it up, put it on the turf in Indiana takes
over with great field position.

Speaker 2 (02:06:08):
Indiana and La plus fourteen on the season in turnover margin,
best in the league's second best nationally, and among the
many things they are good at is paying off those
forced turnovers. They have a first inten at the Wisconsin
twenty one four fifty two left of the third quarters,

(02:06:29):
seventeen to seven, Indiana, the news. Mendoza bringing him up.
He's got Roman Hemby to his right. EJ Williams slat
to the left. We've off to the right, snapped the
Mendoza back to throw, looking time to scan, clips to
Nolakowski left side. Fifteen, Olakowski to the ten rights to
tackle five touchdown Indiana. The former Badger Riley Nolakowski into

(02:06:54):
the end zone and it's twenty three seven the Hoosiers.

Speaker 7 (02:06:58):
I'm sure that feels good for he just runs a
little under route and there's really good protection. Mendoza put
it right where Nowakowski didn't have to break stride, and
then he was able to kind of rip through Mason
Post's tackle a tip.

Speaker 3 (02:07:12):
It's like Mason actually got him around up on the helmet.

Speaker 7 (02:07:14):
He's able to tiptoe down the sideline and score a
touchdown here for Noakowski.

Speaker 2 (02:07:20):
That's his second touchdown of the season. For Indiana's Niko
Radicich on for the extra points in Indiana with a
couple of third quarter touchdowns to break the game open.
The pat is good. Four minutes forty four seconds left
in quarter number three. It's now Indiana twenty four Wisconsin seven.

(02:07:41):
We'll keep it here.

Speaker 7 (02:07:43):
You obviously can't turn the football over, especially where Wisconsin's at,
but Indiana taking advantage of Again, this is what good
football teams do. They'll take advantage of every opportunity you
give them. They make it big play when it is needed.
And Wisconsin just so limited obviously with the injury to
Geteon that changes the dynamics as well. So you know, offensively,

(02:08:07):
it's it's been tough sledding today. They've hung in there.
They made the one big play. But Indiana's defense is
kind of caught onto what Wisconsin is trying to do,
and they've been able to get back and make those
lost yardage plays and along that you keep chipping away
doing that, you're gonna create turnovers. They were able to
do it, and they were able to take advantage of it.

(02:08:28):
Now give themselves a three score lead.

Speaker 2 (02:08:30):
Well, Bennie Anthony earlier this quarter had a good kick return,
he thought it should have been even better, and see
if he gets another chance. As the Hoosiers continue to
kick into the wind. When Warren handles those duties for Indiana,
Bennie standard about four yards deep in a running start. Here,

(02:08:51):
the kick is in the air, it's hit well, and
Vinnie will let this hit about four yards deep full
the touch back and Wisconsin will start at its twenty
five yard line.

Speaker 7 (02:09:00):
So now the question is you're down seventeen. You are
not built to go no huddle. You're not built to
go empty as we've seen. We haven't seen many empties
since that first quarter, So how are you going to
go about doing your business? And I think you have
to stick with your plan at this point. You're going
to try to use Carter's Smith's legs. You're going to
try and find different ways to create some explosive plays.

Speaker 3 (02:09:22):
But it is a heck of a challenge.

Speaker 7 (02:09:24):
And with this Indiana defense now smelling blood, you know
they're going to be coming after Carter Smith in a
big way.

Speaker 2 (02:09:31):
Darian Dupree lead running back now Grover bord A, Lottie
and option as well. Jackson Acre motions into the backfield
on first intent, Kakahuna wide right, motions left. They hand
off to dupre up the right, hash marks and gets
a couple of yards They're going to make. The play

(02:09:51):
is dominate Ratcliffe defensive lineman, second down and eight Wisconsin
at its own twenty seven twenty four to seven of
the Hoosiers with four to twenty five left in the
third quarter. Smith brings him up and coming out our
Acre just off the wing, Anthony and Brooks to the left,

(02:10:16):
Dupree to the right of Smith in the shotgun and
the stamp from Ryan Corey back to Smith looking pressured,
rolling left, throwing left, caught by Chris Brooks and he
gets smacked by Devin Boycott at the thirty four yard line.
Driven back there a yard short of the first downs.

(02:10:37):
Mentioned that again, Ryan Corey working at center right now,
Davis Heines and toowch you talked about it Oregon game.
He's been baggling through a lot of pain and now
and needing a little relief from Cory.

Speaker 7 (02:10:49):
And good experience for Ryan and some of the things
you're looking for growth from Carter Smith, and today we're
seeing some really done a nice job of rolling out
to his left. That's his second ball, and I can
remember delivering a strike rolling live.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
Under center backs, offset handoff to pre and heus Stone
short of the thirty five getting low with Stephen Daily
and help from his friends up high. It is fourth
down in a half a yard four Wisconsin, and let's see.
I thought the offense might stay out there, and it

(02:11:25):
looks that is not the case. So three minutes in
counting left third quarter, Badgers send on Sean West and
the punt team.

Speaker 7 (02:11:35):
Boy, you continue to say Stephen Dally's name a lot
this quarter. He has been incredibly disruptive there on a
third and short, able to penetrate and make another big play.

Speaker 2 (02:11:45):
Lake clock winding down down to three to two one
and a time out taken by Wisconsin. With that play
clock about to expire with two thirty five, I've left
in the third quarter and we will keep it here.
At thirty second time out, it looked like the I mean,

(02:12:09):
the offense would got the impression they were assuming that
they were going to go for it. The punt team
had gathered and it was just a a little slow
on the organization there. So Badgers have to burn their
first time out of the second half.

Speaker 3 (02:12:23):
Yeah, that's obviously not ideal. And you just wonder.

Speaker 7 (02:12:27):
You know, it's fourth and I don't less than a
yard if you're going to line up and you've had
some success doing it, you run the punt team out here,
and you know, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (02:12:40):
Shield protectors are Aaron Witz and Jackson acre Ball at
the thirty four and a half on fourth and a
half a yard they leave, you will snap and they
snapped back to west and the kick is away looking
up into that and then a fair catch inside the

(02:13:02):
twenty yard line by Jonathan Brady Mark at the nineteen
and that's where Indiana takes over first and ten with
two twenty eight left of the third quarter, twenty four
to seven Indiana.

Speaker 7 (02:13:13):
And I'm fairly certain, not going to look at my phone,
I'm fairly certain there's probably a lot of people questioning,
you're down seventeen, why not go for it there? And
I understand that because you want to give your team
an opportunity. And here your defense is you're the leading
part of your football team and special teams. You're trying
to create some opportunities without putting your defense again in

(02:13:35):
a bad spot, which is what you did to get
him to twenty four. So it's an interesting decision there
by Luke Fickle.

Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
In Indiana and Fernando Mendoza starting at the Hoosiers nineteen
yard lineman Dooza sixteen of eighteen two hundred, twenty eight
yards and three touchdowns snap to him. He'll hand off
Roman Hemvy across the twenty yard line. He'll move the
stack up across the twenty five finally sent the ground
of the twenty six yard line. Masi Posa getting in

(02:14:05):
there defensively. Henby is really you know, obviously had really
good numbers at Maryland. He's rushed for more than three
thousand yards in his career. Another one of those really
hard nosed runners who falls forward. Second down and three
for the Hoosiers at their twenty six yard line, Becker
wide left, Omar Cooper in the slot. Mark Cooper will
motion to the right, Mendoza hands off to Henby trying

(02:14:29):
to go up the middle, and he will move the
pile up to the twenty nine yard line, which is
what he needed for the first down. Looks like he
will get there. JVR Suggs getting a hat in there.
They place it at the thirty first down, Indiana would
have been at thirty five left in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (02:14:46):
And I've said this a bunch today. You give Indiana credit.

Speaker 7 (02:14:49):
They are not overly effective running the football, but they
have stuck with it.

Speaker 3 (02:14:54):
That was the twenty third carry forty six yards.

Speaker 7 (02:14:58):
But they are not show a ca that they're even
thinking about not going back to that run game.

Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
Pistol formation, rolling Hemby in the backfield, Coopers slot to
the left first and ten Mendoza gets the snamppans to
Heimby off the left side across the thirty thirty five
yard line, and so back and take it down at
the thirty six trying to pry it loose was Thomas
Heiberger or Iberger on the tackle gain of six second

(02:15:24):
down and four for the Hoosiers, and.

Speaker 7 (02:15:27):
A nice job Suggs is rocking across the left tackle's face.

Speaker 3 (02:15:31):
They're left tackled at a nice job of.

Speaker 7 (02:15:32):
Kind of walling him off, and I gave Indiana's tailback
an opportunity to just kind of hammer it home and
pick up six yards.

Speaker 2 (02:15:39):
Final minute of the third quarter, forty seconds counting left
in quarter number three. Kobe Martin back in the game
at running back, second and four Indiana from the IU
thirty six. Mendoza back to throw, rolling right, flips it
ride and that is caught by E. J. Williams. Able
to keep a foot in bounds. He'll step out of
bounds of the air side at the fifty first down Indiana.

Speaker 7 (02:16:02):
I can't tell you how tough of a throw that is.
He throws off a one foot rolling right. There's they
leak out their their tight end. He is open, but
he decides to take a little bit more and he
leads him perfectly, allowed him to get his one foot down,
and I think that's gonna end this quarter on a
really nice throw by Mendoza.

Speaker 2 (02:16:21):
Two touchdowns in the third quarter for Indiana and the
second ranked team in the country, now leading by seventeen points.

Mike Keller with a scoreboard update here at Memorial Stadium
in Bloomington, the Hoosiers second ranked in the country and undefeated.
They lead the Batcher's twenty four to seven, getting ready
to start the fourth quarter. Elsewhere in the Big Ten,
Michigan Top twenty rank, they lead against Northwestern at Wrigley.
It's seven to six Wolverines. That game about three minutes
into the third quarter. We're about fifteen minutes away from

(02:18:40):
Iowa and USC playing out in Los Angeles. Elsewhere Top
twenty five quick update, South Carolina. They're not ranked. They
lead at third ranked Texas A and m thirty to ten,
eleven and a half minutes to play in the third Matnix.

Speaker 2 (02:18:54):
Ever, no week to week more and more like the NFL.
It seems like twenty four to seven Indiana. Lee's Wisconsin
as we get ready to begin the fourth quarter. Let's
check in again with Patrick.

Speaker 8 (02:19:05):
Wisconsin's defense is on the field now and Cooper Catalano
and Mason Posta, the two freshman inside linebackers, got a
lot of attention and rightfully so for their gaudy numbers
last week, Big ten.

Speaker 9 (02:19:14):
Awards for both of them.

Speaker 8 (02:19:15):
And I found the Wired piece that Wisconsin social media
did this week was really enlightening. Mason Posta was miked
up and he talked about how much credit his D
line deserves for all the stats that he and Catalano posted,
and he is joking, I think, joking about having to
buy all of them dinner. But I will say this
that has been an emphasis that this D line really
has been so impactful to those linebackers and their growth.

(02:19:37):
Flip side of that, Mike Trussel said this week one
of the things he appreciates most about those guys is
how communicative they are, especially as freshmen. Those senior D
linemen are saying, keep talking to me, keep talking to me.
It's helpful.

Speaker 2 (02:19:48):
All right, Here we go, start of the fourth quarter,
Indiana at midfield, first to ten handoff Kobe Martin off.
The white side has room inside the forty five and
Emilio a guard, we'll send him down at the forty four. Yeah,
to pick up on Patrick's point. Talking with Ben Barton
and JVR Suggs here in the last week or so,
they have both really pointed that out how impressed they
are at the knowledge the grasp of the defense that

(02:20:10):
those freshman linebackers have. Really encouraging when you hear guys
on their last lap speaking so highly of others on
their first, really encouraging stuff. Second down and four, Indiana
from the forty four of Wisconsin, double lie to the left,
he's Mendoza hands off, the Martin off the right side
and a collision at the forty one yard line. That

(02:20:30):
was posa because of course it was like Reiger was
in there as well.

Speaker 7 (02:20:34):
Third down and one, they pulled their center Coogan there
just to kind of pulled out around and kicked out
and you know, now you're starting to see Indiana they're
taking their time. I think they're just trying to wear
this thing out, trying to get out of here. They
have a seventeen point lead. They're very content slowing the
pace of play down here and just trying to finish
this game out.

Speaker 2 (02:20:54):
Aaron Witz also in the linebacking cords j winning Posa
and Catalano. Third down and one, Indiana at the forty
one of Wisconsin. The Lakowski motions to the right, lines
up of the wing. Mendoza hands to Martin, gets the
first down inside the forty of Wisconsin was covered up
by Darryl Peterson at the thirty nine yard line. First
and ten Indiana and in a half gone by fourth

(02:21:17):
quarter twenty four to seven. The Hoosiers leading the Wisconsin Badgers.

Speaker 7 (02:21:21):
Just sticking with what they're doing running the football. And
this has been as clean of a game, and I
hopefully am not jinxing anything. Indiana's taking their time. Only
one accepted penalty on the entire afternoon.

Speaker 2 (02:21:34):
Ye have been off sides against Wisconsin that's been at.
Indiana does a great job of avoiding penalties less than
thirty yards per game on average. Mendoza on first down
keeps it on the ground with a give to Kobe
Martin up the middle for a yard maybe two in
the heart to the Wisconsin defense at Darryl Peterson down

(02:21:54):
there and Brandon Lane as well. Second down and nine
Indiana make it eight. They'll place at the thirty seven
of Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (02:22:03):
I've mentioned this a few times today, but you really
see a lot It's almost like hockey where you're seeing
guys shifting in there is I don't know if this
is the most guys we've seen kind of rotated through
in that D line, but a lot of guys getting
a lot of action today.

Speaker 2 (02:22:17):
Shuck it down for the Badger thirty seven yard line.
Cooper slot to the left, Mendoza flips to the right,
that's caught by Noah Kowski and he gets popped. Austin
Brown gets over there and brings down his former teammate
at the thirty six yard line of Wisconsin. So not
much happening there. It's third down and seven for Indiana.

Speaker 7 (02:22:39):
You just love the way this defense is flying around it.
You know, we've joked that I thought that was posted
because that was another big hit. That was Austin Brown
that is bringing it from that far sideline. But you
just continue to see that effort and that finish from
this group.

Speaker 2 (02:22:52):
Trips to the left, Klon Black the running back to
the right of Mendozo, who's back to throw for a
man rush. Mendoza looking pressure, got away from one trying
to break to his left. He's not getting away from
the other is Cooper Catalano close the gate and Mendoza
is a little slow to get up as he's brought
down just inside the forty yard line of Wisconsin. Hey man,

(02:23:16):
Doza gets up and is coming off, but it was
Catialano bringing the heat. He was the one who finished.
But there was he coming from other angles on the
Indiana quarterback and on comes the punt team.

Speaker 7 (02:23:28):
And that's the last thing you you know, if you're
Kurt Signetti, you that's the last thing you want to
see is your star quarterback laying there up seventeen. He
gets out of the pocket, Cooper comes flying down, brings
him down and you can kind of hear that audible groan.

Speaker 3 (02:23:42):
And luckily for Indiana he was able to walk off
and get off the field.

Speaker 2 (02:23:45):
McCarthy on to punt just inside the Wisconsin forty Tyrrell
Henry is deep and the kick is away, Henry drifting
to his right and it will fly out of bounds.
Let's see along the near side. Let's see how far
up they go herecar He did not hit that particularly
well Though'll mark at the twenty, so about a twenty
yard punt and the Badgers will take over first and ten.

kel Kravis. One of the three receivers on the left
goes in motion. They'll fay could give to him keeping
it is Carters Smith and he'll drive up to the
twenty five yard line. A gain of five for the
Wisconsin quarterback Isaiah Jones getting in there with help defensively. Actually,

(02:26:57):
Grover bought a Lotti he how does moment if you will?
Four years ago at a game at Rutgers grad student

Speaker 1 (02:27:14):
So hard all year long.

Speaker 2 (02:27:16):
I was back at twenty twenty one. Darian Dupree in
the backfield now motions to the left and they'll give
it to Lance Mason bending to the right. Across the
twenty five to the thirty yard line, and that was
Elijah Hardy taking him out of that, driving him out
of bound. So a little bluff to the left, a
little give to the right at a first down for Wisconsin.

Speaker 7 (02:27:36):
Yeah, a lot of action there, and again you're trying
to get the eyes of these defenders to kind of
move the way you're looking. And if you fake one way,
it almost looked like you've thought about doing a statue
of liberty flipped the other way, and then Mason coming
back the other way.

Speaker 3 (02:27:51):
So a lot of activity there for Indiana to try
to keep track of.

Speaker 2 (02:27:55):
Trips to the left first and Temple of the Badgers
around thirty one yard line. Snap back to Carter Smid
time to throw lip sit to the left side. That's
picked off. It floated up there intended for trench Kekahuna
and it turns into an easy money interception for Devin
Boykin out of the secondary for Indiana. Second Wisconsin turnover today.

Speaker 7 (02:28:19):
And that's where you see some of the limitations and
this is growing up experience.

Speaker 3 (02:28:23):
Really good protection.

Speaker 7 (02:28:24):
He had all kinds of time and I don't know
if he didn't see him where Tretch was but or
if the ball just floated and sailed on him. But
that was a zone coverage Carter has not seen or
did not adjust to.

Speaker 3 (02:28:38):
And that's about as easy of an interception as you're
gonna get.

Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
So the Hoosiers will start at the Wisconsin forty eight
yard line. Fernando Mendoza back in there at quarterback for Indiana.
Took a pretty good hit from Cooper Catalano when the
last series.

Speaker 7 (02:28:54):
I'd be willing to bet you if I would think
Signette's probably like stay in the pocket, you're into the football,
let's hand the ball off.

Speaker 3 (02:29:01):
Don't do that again.

Speaker 2 (02:29:03):
Roman Hemby is the running back. Two receivers left, DJ
Williams to the right. They'll flip Rightley Nowakowski to the
left side of the formation from the Wisconsin forty eight
yard lineman. Those will give it to Henby up the middle,
up the right hatch marks and it gets belted back
by Parker Peterson help from Cooper Catalano. A gain of
four for Hemby to the forty four of Wisconsin. Second

(02:29:23):
down and six.

Speaker 7 (02:29:24):
That was a really nice run there as a zone
playoff to the left, a little bit of push and Hemby.
It was very patient cut it back, and you know,
Cooper Catalana did a good job of kind of getting
off his block and was able to bring him down.

Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
Second down and six from the Wisconsin forty four. Indiana
perfectly content with Milka the clock nine to ten, remaining
twenty four to seven.

Speaker 5 (02:29:46):
The Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (02:29:50):
Crystol formation. There's Mendoza hands off to Hemby trying to
break off the right edge inside the forty five inside
the forty thirty down.

Speaker 3 (02:29:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:30:04):
I thought no one ever held.

Speaker 50 (02:30:05):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:30:06):
Well, sometimes sometimes it's absurd.

Speaker 34 (02:30:09):
This is there.

Speaker 7 (02:30:10):
We go offense number seventy four, ten yard penalty, second out.

Speaker 2 (02:30:14):
It's bray Lynch, the right guard.

Speaker 7 (02:30:16):
I actually thought the tackle held too. And that's one
of those where the ball bounces late. You as a
tackle don't really know where the ball is, so you
kind of grab and you know, the lineman shows it.

Speaker 3 (02:30:27):
But there's been a few and listen, man, I love
games where there's not a ton of penalties. Today has been.
That is only the second penalty of the afternoon, first
on the Indiana Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (02:30:37):
So it's second and sixteen IU from its own forty
six yard line. Three receivers left, one on the right,
ben Dozer back to throw scream caught over the middle
forty five yard line, cutting right fifty little stop and
go move inside the forty five Corey Walker will force
Jonathan Brady out of bounds. They will place at the
forty three of Wisconsin, so that makes it manageable. Now

(02:31:01):
for Indiana, third down and five.

Speaker 3 (02:31:03):
Really nice job.

Speaker 7 (02:31:04):
Corey Walker drops from his defensive end spot into his
zone and did a pretty good job there. They tried
to dead leg him and he kind of kept showed
that athleticism from the big fella, then't fall for it
and is able to help kind of ride him out
of bounce.

Speaker 2 (02:31:18):
So here we go. Third and five for the Hoosiers.
They are five out of ten today. On third down,
Brady slot to the rights. NBA is the running back.
Mendoza in the gun gets the stamp, Badgers sending four
Mendoza scans and the pockets tight rolling over the metal.
Caught by aj Williams and that's an Indiana first down.

(02:31:39):
Austin Brown on the catch as Mendoza hangs tough first
down completionto the thirty three yard line of Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (02:31:47):
I thought for a second maybe he went past the line.
Of scrimmage.

Speaker 7 (02:31:50):
But I think he wisely pulled up and I think
he was thinking about that hit. He just took on
the prior drive and was like, I don't think I'm
gonna get rid of this football even if I am.
It looks like you got it right there, and really
good awareness again by Mendoza.

Speaker 2 (02:32:04):
Halfway through the fourth quarter, twenty four to seven Indiana
Hoosiers a first intend at to thirty three of Wisconsin.
Kobe Martin the running back. Mendoza will give it to him.
He'll take it up the middle and gets wrapped up
at the thirty one yard line. Short gain Anna a
little extraft to play Omar Cooper and Jamiir Latimer, and
the officials quickly separate. No harm, no foul.

Speaker 3 (02:32:27):
Like a little chippiness here, you know, it's let it
rip a little bit.

Speaker 7 (02:32:30):
It's obviously been frustrating because this defense has done what
they've needed to do stopping the run in Indiana is
just going to continue to chip away at it.

Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
So a little bit of chippiness isn't a bad thing.

Speaker 2 (02:32:43):
Second down and eight from the Wisconsin at thirty one
six forty eight, remaining twenty four to seven. The Hoosiers
Kobe Martin to the right of Mendoza. Hooper slot to
the right, snap the Mendoza time to scan looking rose
to the left, clock by Cooper, fifteen to ten sideline
five and driven out of hounds inside the five by

(02:33:05):
Matt Young. First in goal Indiana at the three.

Speaker 7 (02:33:11):
Good protection there. Indiana used a back to kind of
help out that right tackle. It looks like Indiana's put
a new right tackle in as well. He chipped and
gave Mendoza maybe a little bit more time to let
Cooper get open. Let that play develop, and then you're
seeing a really nice talent make a nice play.

Speaker 2 (02:33:27):
They mark at the two. First in goal, Indiana subbing Badgers,
getting their subs in order. Now the center judge will
step away and Indiana will run its offense. Man those
hands off the himb down. He goes big Perk Charles
Perkins behind the line of scrimmage. They'll mark at the five.

Speaker 3 (02:33:47):
That's always fun to see Perk.

Speaker 7 (02:33:49):
Yeah, we had a nice fun after doing with Perk,
So we might be a little bit biased, but that's
his second big play.

Speaker 3 (02:33:55):
You know, he's getting more opportunity.

Speaker 7 (02:33:56):
He's earning some opportunities by what he's doing in practice,
and you see today.

Speaker 3 (02:34:00):
Nice to see him getting that backfield for his second TfL.

Speaker 2 (02:34:03):
The afternoon, Richard Junior out of Memphis, Tennessee, Charles Perkins
second and goal Indiana at the five with five and
a half minutes remaining. Well Kowski slot left, there's slot right.
Rather they snapped them. Indoza looking throwing left, caught by
Omar Cooper, touchdown Indiana Mega thirty to seven the Hoosiers

(02:34:27):
with five twenty one to play.

Speaker 3 (02:34:30):
What do you always say, is that room service? And
something's pretty easy? That was room service.

Speaker 7 (02:34:35):
I don't know if there was a pick, but Wisconsin
did not cover that front pile on that little little
route which you see a lot on goal line plays
protection good. Wisconsin brought a little bit of pressure, was
picked up and about as easy of a pitch and
catch as you're gonna get down on the goal line.

Speaker 34 (02:34:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:34:50):
They had Davyon Chandler in the slot and he just
he cleared out. Yeah, and then Omar Cooper with easy
money is Ratichitz with the extra point?

Speaker 22 (02:35:00):
It is good.

Speaker 2 (02:35:00):
So Indiana again pays off on the turnover, will take

(02:37:15):
and it's thirty one seven Indiana with five point twenty
one to play. Man doze today twenty two of twenty four,
two hundred and ninety nine yards, four touchdowns, and he's
been sacked five times.

Speaker 3 (02:37:26):
I just saw that stat and I was thinking, it
doesn't feel that way.

Speaker 22 (02:37:30):
Now.

Speaker 7 (02:37:30):
He's been very efficient and the ball has not landed
on the ground much, but we have been able to
disrupt and listen, Indiana is a better football team. I
don't think anybody's shocked about that. But Wisconsin has really fought.
It's you can't turn the football over it and fourteen
of those points are basically gift wrapped to this Indiana
Hoosiers offense.

Speaker 2 (02:37:50):
It was ten to seven Indiana at the half, and
they have broken it open here in the second. This
kick in the air, it's returnable for Vinnie if he
wants it right out of the to the ten. Fifteen,
been into the twenty twenty five yard line and is
chopped down shy of the thirty. And that's where the
Badgers will begin first down and ten and the kickoff

(02:38:12):
for next week's game against Illinois. We'll find out it's
some time tomorrow. In fact, every game of the Big
Ten we'll get kickoff times. Tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (02:38:21):
We'll be hoping for nice early one. It would be nice,
you know, Matt.

Speaker 7 (02:38:28):
We're kind of just going through these stats in our
run defense again, not surprising anybody has been very stout.
We're going to look back at that third and eight
play in the beginning of the set in that third quarter,
there as the thing that kind of swung the game.

Speaker 2 (02:38:41):
That good connection with those are there, Charlie Becker on
first down, here's a sweep to Tyrell Henry running to
the right, and he has driven out of bounds by
Elijah Hardy. It's a very good linebacking corps. Aden Fisher
has been terrific. You got Hardy, you got Isaiah Jones.
It's just a terrific defense period that Indiana has second

(02:39:03):
down and ten for the Badgers at their twenty eight
yard line.

Speaker 7 (02:39:05):
And we've been kind of going to that well a
bunch the you know, the jet sweeps and the pop
passes and again trying to and we saw a little
bit of effectiveness early, but teams have been able to
hone in like they did a little bit last week
in Indiana with that front and what they've been able
to do with the linebackers figured some things out in
the second year.

Speaker 2 (02:39:21):
Arry and Drew Pree in motion to the left, all
handed to him trying to sweep to the left, and
Hardy's all over it. Actually, Dominique Ratcliffe was as well,
helping force the issue. Hardy finished up no game, third
and ten for the Badgers at their twenty eight yard
line with four twenty five remain.

Speaker 7 (02:39:37):
Yeah, and this is I give Carter Smith a lot
of credit. He has competed. He's you know, run the football.
He've done some things offensively, especially in that first quarter,
that have been pretty good. But it is really tough
in today's college football. If you can't drop back and
complete a bunch of passes, it makes it really difficult.
And that is going to be that next step in

(02:39:57):
Wisconsin's offenses, finding some things that they can do in
the dropback game.

Speaker 2 (02:40:02):
Third down ten, Badgers at their twenty eight yard line,
snap the Smith face, the hand up pass deflected in
kuld play. Getting there again was Hardy, but he's put
on a little clinic on this series. Three and out
for Wisconsin with three minutes and fifty seconds romaining, and.

Speaker 7 (02:40:20):
Even there, you're gonna go quick pass, get the bad
of Cartersmith's hands and try and have one of your
guys make a play. In Indiana understands that they're bringing
pressure and they get their hands up to.

Speaker 3 (02:40:30):
Bat passes that time, batted it down another three and
out in another stop for Indiana's defense.

Speaker 2 (02:40:35):
Sean Smith on to Sean West, beg your pardon onto punts.
Jonathan Brady deep for Indiana.

Speaker 5 (02:40:45):
Sniff the West.

Speaker 2 (02:40:45):
He steps up and then kick is away toward the
near side. Needs a bounce, gets one inside the thirty,
rolling inside the twenty five, inside the twenty, and finally
stops at about the seventeen yard line. Didn't hit it great,
but got a very good balance and we will have
another break in the action. Fans listen to all Thanks

Speaker 7 (02:47:26):
What a day he's had two and a half sacks.
I don't know how many tackles, six tackles.

Speaker 3 (02:47:31):
He has been disruptive. He's found a way and he
does this every week.

Speaker 7 (02:47:36):
He finds a way to go back and make a
big play and give his defense a chance to make stops.
So DP has been around here for a long time
and he's had a really you know, I remember when
Luke Fickle made those comments about him getting everything out
of his talent.

Speaker 3 (02:47:53):
No doubt about it.

Speaker 7 (02:47:54):
He did it again this afternoon and has had a
fantastic afternoon here in Bloomington.

Speaker 2 (02:47:58):
Thirty one seven, Indiana, Wisconsin, with two minutes to play,
We have any more on Gideon Atuca Patrick, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (02:48:04):
I wanted to make sure we provide a one more
update before we sign off the air here. So Gideinatuka
is still at the Bloomington hospital here. The early signs,
early reports are positive, is what I can share. He
has movement in all his extremities, which is the first
thing that you really look for, and they have a
great optimism. It's unclear yet whether he's gonna be able
to travel home with the team. Some of that might

(02:48:26):
be just timing wise, though fairly quick game here. Do
they have his thorough evaluation done before this team can leave,
but hopefully that will be a great sign.

Speaker 2 (02:48:34):
All right, Patrick, it's some positive news there is. Indiana
gets a fresh shout of downs from its twenty nine
yard line. The younger Mendoza hands off Kobe Martin Hill
blast across the thirty and up to the thirty five
to the thirty six yard line posa on the tackle,
gain of seven. As we play this one out a
minute fifty remaining in the Hoosiers in control.

Speaker 3 (02:48:54):
The Hoosiers are definitely in control.

Speaker 7 (02:48:56):
And you look at this team, they I Wiscott more
than held their own on the defensive side of the
ball again today, I know you're gonna look at it,
and well, Mendoza had two hundred ninety nine yards.

Speaker 3 (02:49:06):
He only had two incompletions. That's all fair. This is
a really good football team.

Speaker 7 (02:49:12):
Yes, and Wisconsin came in and I thought gave everything
that they had and put themselves in a position if
you take those turnovers away.

Speaker 5 (02:49:21):
Who knows.

Speaker 2 (02:49:22):
From the thirty six of Indiana, second down and three,
Alberto Mendoza hands off to Kobe Martin Hill get the
first down push of the pile up across the forty
to the forty one yard line, Corey Walker there, Deanna
Hill thirty one seven, Indiana. There was a lot of talk,
you know, back in twenty ten the Badgers hung eighty
three on Indiana and with the Indiana get revenge. But

(02:49:43):
you got to understand in today's college football, particularly with
this Indiana team, it's got bigger fish to front, yes
as a bye week than Purdue. They're hoping to play
a lot more football this season, So it would have
made zero sense to empty the tank in a game
like this and just been saying, taush, Wisconsin defense. He's
been playing really well.

Speaker 7 (02:50:00):
Absolutely, and you would think, well, this probably more than
likely should be the last snap of this game.

Speaker 2 (02:50:05):
And they'll go into the line across the forty yard line,
Solomon van Horse the ball carrier there, and that will
wrap it up. Neither team has any interest in using timeouts.
The final twenty five seconds will burn off, and the
Indiana Hoosiers are now eleven to zero and certainly on

(02:50:27):
a path to the Big Ten championship game and a
path perhaps too much bigger things moving forward. Just a
terrific performance for Indiana and a terrific performance by the
Wisconsin defense.

Speaker 7 (02:50:38):
Yeah, it was I really appreciate what Wisconsin's defense was
able to do again today.

Speaker 3 (02:50:44):

Speaker 7 (02:50:45):
They are going to be in the playoff and they
are going to have all their weapons back. This is
a physical football team. They have talent, they have playmakers.
Their defense found a way to continue to get some
turnovers and do the things that they needed to do
to win a game. It was very workman like today
from this Indiana Hoosier team. They're just a much better

Indiana remains undefeated with a thirty one to seven win
against Wisconsin. Here today, it was ten to seven at
the half of the Hoosiers. A couple of third quarter
touchdowns break the game open. Alongside Mark Tauscher, I'm Matt Lapay,
and you said it clearly. I mean, it's not remotely
debatable that Indiana is the better team. Yet if you're Wisconsin,

(02:56:49):
if you're a player coach, you're thinking of some meat
left on the bone. Right first drive, Badgers had the
ball for more than half of the first quarter. Nathaniel
Vacos slips trying a forty five yard field goal so
that they come up empty. There it looked like they
had a beautiful play designed on a flip to any Anthony.
The pass was a little high, a little hot, not caught,

(02:57:09):
could have been a touchdown, was certainly a big play.
Things like that, and then the turnovers that Indiana cashes
in gets the fourteen points. Those things it turns a
thirty one to seven game into something that's maybe at
least a little more interesting going into the fourth quarter.

Speaker 7 (02:57:24):
This is the hard part with kind of where we
are at right now. Offensively, you have absolutely no margin
of error on anything. You get an opportunity, and that's
where I love the fact that on a fourth and
inches take a shot. You did it and it worked,
and that unfortunately, you know, those are our points for today.
But you have to try some different things and if

(02:57:46):
you turn it over, if you don't take advantage of
a couple of those opportunities, you miss a field goal
or you miss a big play opportunity. You just can't
overcome that right now where we are so defensively a
ton of credit again because they had to answer the
bell time after time, and you know, eventually they were
unable to do it with you know, short fields. But

(02:58:07):
to limit Indiana to what they could running the football
today and getting after Mendoza as much as they did,
they gave your team a chance to have a chance
through the first half. And then Indiana kind of put
its might on the rest of this football game in
the second half, and that's why we ended up with
the margin.

Speaker 2 (02:58:24):
That we did.

Speaker 40 (02:58:25):
Here.

Speaker 2 (02:58:25):
We know about Wisconsin's druggles offensively period two point three
yards per rush today, Indiana two point two per rush.
Here today a Roman Hemby ends up leading the way
with fifty eight yards. Well, this is a guy who
came in with six fifty six. The Badgers get five sacks,
seven tackles for loss. Indiana gets eight TFLs and two sacks.

(02:58:46):
But those sacks and tackles for loss Badgers were near
the bottom nationally in that category last year. So on
that side of the ball, you see progress.

Speaker 7 (02:58:54):
There is no doubt this defense all season for the
most part, has done enough to find ways to win
the game.

Speaker 3 (02:59:02):
But I had to check this again.

Speaker 7 (02:59:05):
Second half offensively for the Wisconsin Badgers, is that number
twenty three yards correct?

Speaker 2 (02:59:11):
Twenty three yards of offense correct.

Speaker 3 (02:59:13):
In the second half?

Speaker 4 (02:59:14):
Correct?

Speaker 3 (02:59:15):
You know, I don't care who you're playing, you're not
beating anybody doing that.

Speaker 7 (02:59:18):
So that's obviously the thing that this program needs to
improve upon. And you know, defensively, I hope nobody is
going to look at this and say, well, mandoz A
through for two and no, no, no, he's a really
good player. He did a lot of good things offensively,
you just can't. You can't function when you're doing twenty
three yards and you can't win.

Speaker 2 (02:59:39):
Yeah, And that's where you talk about balance WITHINDI. I
remember Paul Chris talking about this. You can look at
rush yards pass yards, and with Indiana it's very balanced.
But his idea, and he's not alone, balance is well,
if you can't run it against somebody, can you throw it?

Speaker 4 (02:59:52):
Yeah? And we have.

Speaker 2 (02:59:53):
The Badgers have run across Alabama, Ohio State. They didn't
bother trying to run it a lot. Indiana tried it
was great, but they were able to throw it with
the with the Heisman contending quarterback and oh, by the way,
really good receivers without arguably the best one again not
available today in Elijah Sir Rat Charlie Becker hit five
catches for one oh eight EJ. Williams five catches for

(03:00:15):
fifty two yards. Indiana wins thirty one to seven over Wisconsin.

not get in the red zone here today, Indiana, which
is great when it gets there. Three for three today
it came in getting touchdown seventy four percent of the time,
so you'll take that clip. Wisconsin has only been in

(03:04:19):
the red zone seventeen times all season. The touchdown came
on a forty five yard pass play from Cauter Smith
to Lance Mason. But now you've seen Indiana up close
touch I mean you study them obviously a lot going
into the game. I don't see where there's a great weakness.
Maybe at some parts of their offensive line. They got
some guys filling in. But man, they just when things

(03:04:41):
look like they might get a little squirrely for him,
they settle down. They just go out and make plays.

Speaker 7 (03:04:46):
Yeah, they're not your typical super explosive offense, where you
know Wisconsin's defense was able to limit it, but this
team wants to be physical. They have good tailbacks, they
have a really good offensive line on the left side.
I would say that rights I'd a little bit vulnerable.
They're rotating some guys in and out today. I think
that's going to be something they're going to try and
figure out. But I thought defensively, once they kind of

(03:05:08):
started figuring out what Wisconsin was going to do, they
have guys on every level that go and make plays.
So this is a group that is going to be
a tough out for somebody because they have playmakers at
the most important positions and they play a really physical.

Speaker 3 (03:05:24):
Style of ball.

Speaker 7 (03:05:25):
So I give them a ton of credit for what
they've been able to do. Was it two years ago, three,
whatever it was that we were here. This place was
dead empty and it was kind of a game. Yeah,
great atmosphere today, you can tell this group is excited
about this team, and they should be.

Speaker 2 (03:05:38):
Yeah, it's an Indiana team that's been pressed a little
bit this season, going out to Oregon or a very
impressive winning Eugene, Iowa gave Indiana old and wanted obviously
last week against Penn State, so they've been tested into
some tough moments here and now an eleven to zero
team with a buy coming up, and then they'll close
their regular season against the Purdue boiler Makers. This case

Indiana defeats the Badgers here today thirty one to seven.
A few minutes ago, Mike Keller caught up with head
coach Luke Fickle.

Speaker 20 (03:09:41):
With the head coach Luke Fickle, let's talk about what
you wanted to get accomplished and how that first half
played out to that end.

Speaker 60 (03:09:49):
We wanted to win, We wanted to create some energy
momentum and you know, do the things that we can
do to be successful. And in a lot of ways,
that's what the first half was about. You we gave
up one big play defensively obviously it's a touchdown, and offensively,
we did a good job at moving the football. Obviously
we made a big play, you know, to score a touchdown.

(03:10:10):
But mean, I'm not you know, whether it's a couple
more big plays, and I mean, like the idea of
moving the football and playing complimentary ball.

Speaker 5 (03:10:19):
That what the first half looked like.

Speaker 1 (03:10:21):
You left a little bit out there.

Speaker 20 (03:10:22):
Especially even in the first half. You had a screen
set up in front of your bench that you just
missed that it's probably gonna go for away.

Speaker 3 (03:10:29):
You miss a field goal.

Speaker 5 (03:10:31):
So there were some.

Speaker 20 (03:10:32):
Opportunities that you know, you have to take advantage of
that were left out.

Speaker 60 (03:10:35):
Yeah, I mean they made they made the big plays
down the field and if you know that's a screenplay
or something that we didn't make, you know, But there's
that's the difference in ball games. I mean, you're not
gonna beat a great football team, you know, if you
can't find a way to make some plays and even
those plays down the field, I mean, we got to
make those plays defensively, and if you don't, you know,
I mean, you're gonna it's gonna be really tough to

(03:10:57):
beat anybody, but especially a you know, top two team.

Speaker 5 (03:11:00):
In a country.

Speaker 20 (03:11:00):
One more on the first half the fourth and one
conversion on the long touchdown pretty good.

Speaker 60 (03:11:06):
Yeah, No, I mean it's I wasn't positive that's what
was what was being called. I'm not sure I you know,
would have been all in on that, but we knew
we had to take some shots at this thing. You know,
to think you're going to methodically drive the ball down
the field consistently for twelve and thirteen plays on a defense.

Speaker 5 (03:11:24):
And a team like this, it's just it's not going
to happen. So that they, you know, had an opportunity
to make a big play and we did.

Speaker 20 (03:11:30):
Look, you're down ten to seven at the half. What
did you not see in the second half that was
there when they outscored your twenty one nothing after the break.

Speaker 5 (03:11:38):
It's the same thing.

Speaker 60 (03:11:38):
It's making a play down the field defensive that's where
we you know, didn't do And then we didn't move
the football offensively.

Speaker 5 (03:11:45):
You know, obviously turnovers kill you.

Speaker 60 (03:11:48):
You get zero turnovers on defense, and I don't know,
we turn it over three times on offense, pounding the
red zone again. I mean, I know, you got to
get aggressive when when you're not moving to football and
you got to find other ways. But no matter, you
can't turn the ball over, and it's really tough for
us to overcome those things.

Speaker 5 (03:12:03):
Football can have a scary moment.

Speaker 20 (03:12:05):
You certainly did today with Gideon and I Tuka, I
don't know if you can tell us anything.

Speaker 50 (03:12:09):
What do you know.

Speaker 5 (03:12:09):
I don't have an update.

Speaker 60 (03:12:10):
We can get checked and I know that I thought
there were some positives that they said as we were,
you know, in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 5 (03:12:17):

Speaker 20 (03:12:23):
What was that message?

Speaker 5 (03:12:24):
No, it's about finishing. It's about finishing.

Speaker 60 (03:12:25):
Every guy in this program has things to play for,
whether you know they're a senior and you know this
last two guaranteed games that they'll ever play.

Speaker 5 (03:12:32):
In game of football to young guys. And then we
got to have the real competitors.

Speaker 60 (03:12:36):
We got to have the guys that got kill our
instincts and the guys that are going to keep pushing
and grinding to step forward and lead. You know, we
always say the seniors lead, and when you're a great team,
that's that's what happens. And at some point in time, though,
somebody's got to continue to push the lead. And that's
what we're going to find out the last couple weeks.

Speaker 3 (03:12:51):
Coach, thank you, Matt and Mark.

Speaker 2 (03:12:52):
Back to you, gentlemen, Thank you very much. Indiana wins

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
