Wisconsin Head coach Robin Pinchtin Ten players played fourteen minutes
or more in the season opener. Can you kind of
talk about that and what's the biggest reason why everybody
got so much plain time.

Speaker 12 (09:05):
Yeah, you know, just trying to find out those rotations,
and you know, I guess it's a good and bad problem.
We don't have anyone that's really separated themselves enough in practice.
But at the same time, depth is something that's really important,
and so just trying to really play up tempo, trying
to play physical and aggressive on the defensive end, and
I think, you know, if you're really going to empty

(09:25):
your tank, you know, playing in those spurts of three
and four minutes is probably the max you can go
if you're really going to leave it all hanging out.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
I know we're really early in the season, but it
feels like depth could be a strength of this year's team.

Speaker 23 (09:36):
I think, so I'm really excited about it.

Speaker 12 (09:38):
And I think, you know, with so many new players,
you're just trying to figure out as a staff who
plays really well together, and you know, use something you
look at and the off season as well. But you know,
there's a lot of install going on, new system, new
players and learning that first and foremost, and then figuring
out who compliments each other on the court.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Four players in that opener scored in double figures, led
by Death Sunny Howell's seventeen points. Can you tell me
a little bit more of what type of a player
Howell is?

Speaker 12 (10:05):
Yeah, pretty dynamic young lady. You know, she's got the
ability to score on three levels. She's pretty smooth, she's
got a nice jumper, she can get to the rim,
and I think we all.

Speaker 23 (10:15):
Seen how well she can shoot the threes.

Speaker 17 (10:16):
So just a.

Speaker 12 (10:18):
Scoring threat on all levels. Defensively, continue to challenge her
to just kind of be more of a presence for us.
To be honest with you, I think there's more that
we can get from her. You know, just a really
great player. We're really blessed to have her in our program.

And finally, eight three pointers made. I believe there were
twenty four taken in that season opener. Is there a
sweet spot? Is there a number of threes attempted that
your coaching philosophy you think is a good number.

Speaker 23 (10:43):
Yeah, you know, we're not set on an exact number.

Speaker 12 (10:45):
I think, you know, it's nice to pretermine that, But again,
you never know how the game is going to be played,
what kind of defense want to push and transition. We
definitely love the three ball. I think we've got a
lot of players that are willing and able to knock
down shots, and so I think trying to score early
in that shot clock is something that we've really really
worked hard on.

Now joined by the Bacheer's assistant coach McGhee man. You
spent last season at Missouri as an assistant coach and
video coordinator. What was it that made you want to
join coach Pinchton in Madison.

Speaker 32 (14:41):
Well, obviously, you know, I was with her in Missouri
last year and just knowing the type of person and
human she was an awesome chance to just continue to
be with somebody who I knew and coach Bracy as well.
And then the opportunity in terms of Madison, just always
heard really good things. It's a great university, great place,
and just really excited, I think with some of the
facilities in the backing from administration, like we're really pumped

about the opportunity to build something special here for sure.

Now the season is here, it's game number two, it's
in in state rivalry today against Marquette. How important is
it to be the best in the state.

Speaker 32 (15:13):
I mean really important. I mean, you name it. I
mean we were talking to these guys a little bit
in pregame about, like, you know, I really feel like
this game has probably circled on both of our calendars.
You know, Coach be talked about in some of her
opening statements of securing the border and and that being
kind of like on the recruiting stand piece, but also
we want to do that on the court as well.
So it has huge implications just for bragging rights in

state and recruits going forward and all of that. So
we're pumped for it.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, Marquette's a team that won twenty one times last season.
They're want to know this year, what's the biggest thing
that stands out the most to you about them?

Speaker 32 (15:46):
No, I just say that like their continuity. For sure,
they have their whole entire start in five coming back.
So their only team I think in D one that
has that, and so you know, they didn't have to
go through a lot of the things that that most
teams probably in the NCAA were dealing with over the
summer of of you know, trying to get their team
chemistry down, and they flow into their actions really well.
Like their motion offense. They just know they know how

to get into it all right, So a lot of
that time that they probably spent with practice was probably
cut down a good bit, so they flow into it.
They know, they know their strengths and weaknesses for each
of their people on their team, so it'll be a
good test for us well.

with you. It's not for Wisconsin women's basketball today. The
Badgers are on the road ready to face the Marquette
Golden Eagles. Both teams come in with one to zero records.
Wisconsin coming off a win over Oakland at the Coal
Center on Wednesday, seventy nine to sixty eight, Marquete coming
off a win over Winthrop. Now back to the Badger's victory.
Four players in double figures and the Badgers were led

by all transfers. Destiny Howell, a transfer from Howard, scored
twenty or scored seventeen points rather in twenty six minutes.
Shaye Bolin, She's a transfer from Illinois, was second on
the Badger's leaderboard with thirteen points in just fourteen minutes
of action. Lacy Steele is a transfer as well for Wisconsin.
Steel comes courtesy of NC State. She scored twelve points,

and it was Kira Daniels with eleven points the last
Badger in double figures. Daniels is a transfer from Missouri State.
The Badger shot fifty percent from the floor in that victory,
and they also had eight three pointers eight of twenty
four in the game. That is thirty three percent shooting.
Four of those eight came in the first quarter. Now
it's on to Marquette. It's the I ninety four rivalry renewed.

These two teams haven't met since December fourth, or twenty seventeen.
It was a Marquette win eighty eight to sixty five.
In fact, the Badgers haven't beaten the Golden Eagles in
over ten seasons. Back in twenty fourteen was the last
victory eighty nine sixty four, a Badger's win in Madison,
the last time Wisconsin has won in Milwaukee against the

Marquette Golden Eagles a year prior to that in twenty thirteen.
So Wisconsin trying to get back on the winning track
against the Golden Eagles. As these two teams playing for
the first time since twenty seventeen, it's a good break,
