Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome into the Jay and Case Curty Solutions basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper, joined by Nick Bruswiz. The
Wisconsin Badgers bounced back for a dominating eighty eight sixty
two win over the Washington Huskies. You can join the
conversation with us on the hotline six eight three two
one thirteen ten. Just what the Doctor ordered today, The
(00:25):
Brewers or the Badgers responded after a tough loss their
last time out, but doing everything they needed to do
and beat up on a weaker opponent. The turnovers were addressed,
the defense locked in. John Blackwell had himself a big game.
More on that later on in the show and fun
facts with Dave and Nick. Wisconsin looked a lot more
like itself tonight and got themselves back on track.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Absolutely, Dave, this was an inferior opponent, right. This is
a team that is last place in the Big Ten.
The Badgers are battling for the top spot, but in
the mix of it in the top four, no doubt
about it, and they showed why they are in their
respective positions. The amount of players that you can attack
with on the Badgers and versus those that Washington is
(01:10):
relying on it's drastically different. We've preached the depth of
Wisconsin and how many different mouths that are in need
of being fed but are oftentimes overfed in terms of
offensive output. To go around and tonight Max Klesmant plays
just the five minutes he doesn't return to the game.
His status will be worth monitoring as the Michigan State
(01:32):
game approaches on Sunday. But in all reality, they're probably
trying to limit his minutes now before that game and
for the stretch run.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
But Wisconsin did.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
They leaned on John Blackwell in the first half nineteen
point six rebounds, three or four from deep. He's really
been a great, consistent offensive player, and there were questions
dumb ones in my opinion, about his commitment to this
group following their loss to Oregon. Those with the eyeball
test that matters to nobody on this coaching staff and
(02:04):
this team said it didn't look like John was trying too.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Hard against the Ducks in the second half.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Well, he showed up tonight in the first half, no
doubt about it, and he made a couple of buckets
down the stretch in the second half after the game
got out of control.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah, John Blackwell had himself a big game, nineteen of
his twenty four points coming in the first half, and
just really putting this one out of reach for Washington
early on.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I mean, they jumped out to a big lead.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
They did the same against Oregon, but they avoided the
same second half mistakes with the turnovers, with the lack
of aggressiveness. Wisconsin was a lot more aggressive. They end
up getting to the free throw line a bit more.
They end up getting eighty eight points in this one,
and they continue their offensive onslought that they've really been
on all season long, and that's been fantastic to see
(02:50):
from them. And yeah, it was just a great performance
all around from them utilizing that depth. And you know
it's gonna have a lot of fans happy and Badger Land,
including Pat and Waukeshaw, who was on the hot line
six eight three. Uh, Pat, you got to be feeling
a lot better after this one than we were over
(03:11):
the weekend.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Awesome, w Dave and Nick. I love the little slip
up there as you were coming on the air. Dave,
that's okay, though, buddy, you're just thinking spring training. Spring training. Absolutely,
it'll be here before we know it. And uh, I
just got to tell you Nick real quick from White
two K. I certainly remember Kirk Penny. He was a
sophomore on that team, same as Charlie Wills and same
(03:39):
as Mark Vversha. The other day, I just I shared
with the the audience the starting five in that White
two K team. And then I'll always remember that game
at Iowa in February of White two K. Charlie Wills,
I think he turned that season around. He hit a
number of threes as I shared it with the audience, Yeah, yeah,
(04:00):
we won that game. Yeah, I'm getting there. I'm getting there,
don't worry. I think one of our super dark horses
this year heading into the postseason, I think he's shining
up his dance shoes already, is market Marcus Silver. He
is gonna play a role as we get into the
Big ten Tournament and into the Big dance Mark my word,
(04:21):
Guardo has him prepped and shined. Marcus says, his dance
shoes ready, and he is gonna He's gonna play a role.
I will tell you that. And all right, and at
least one big game. The other thing is, I've always
said going back to bow and even before that, especially
going back to Bowl. No team in America learns more
(04:44):
from a tough loss than the Badgers, and they showed
it tonight. It was Johnny Bee's clinic. Baby, Johnny Bee's
clinic was open, Go Red Baby, win it all.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, there we go, Pat in Waukesha, Yeah, Johnny b.
John Blackwell putting on a clinic today. Twenty four points
nine of sixteen, shooting ten rebounds as well, leading away
for the Badgers. They're thirty minutes of action on the court.
And now Marcus Silver being up prepped for a big
moment here in March, as the calendar is going to
(05:15):
be turning to that in a couple of days here,
and that is the prediction from Patton Walkershaw. So sure, whenever,
whenever we get to March and Marcus Silver is hitting
a big shot. Remember you heard it from Patton Walkershaw first.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
So what I hope, Dave, is that in twenty five years,
if we're lucky enough to still be doing this, that
we have Pat.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Still calling in and telling us about you.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Guys, remember the twenty twenty five lineup.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
You remember the twenty twenty five lineup. I remember those guys.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
John Blackwell the Johns, John Blackwell and John Tom Jay,
us S Crowell, He tells us all the guys that
would just tell you that this team has been cemented
in history, and tonight they got back on track a
lot to still be seen again. I'm gonna hammer on
how Washington's an inferior opponent. Will see now Michigan State
on the road on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, that's really gonna be the big test for this team.
I mean, this was a get right game for Wisconsin.
I'm coming off their loss to Oregon. It is an
opponent that's really kind of battling just to make the
Big Ten tournament. That that's really kind of what they're
holding on to. Washington just doesn't really have the pieces
in order to be able to keep up in this conference.
(06:32):
So I mean, they're kind of a bottom tier team
to beat up on it, and Wisconsin did what they
needed to do. And that's really kind of the important
thing because we saw in the last game against Oregon,
if you struggle in certain categories, you can still have
a team, you know, like Oregon that Wisconsin still should
have beat. You can still have a team that that
can come back in beaches. So you still have to
(06:53):
do the little things right. Don't turn the ball over.
Just five turnovers in this game. The Badgers had seventeen
turnovers against Oregon. That is obviously a big factor, a
big difference. Wisconsin got to the free throw line sixteen
times in this game versus just four times in the
game against Oregon, so another big difference. And that's how
(07:14):
Wisconsin ends up with a nice twenty six point victory
over the Washington Huskies. And uh it's it was a
fun win for Wisconsin. And we'll have fun facts coming
up on the other side as well. And as you mentioned, Nick,
I want to talk about this coming up in the
show as well, Max Klesman just five minutes in this game.
(07:35):
We'll try to get an update on Max Klesmt from
Nick osin I'm twenty four to seven Sports, who is
also going to be joining us later on in the program.
That's all going to be coming up here. On the
other side, we'll get to fun facts with Dave the
Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Well, we'll get to more from you on the hotline
as well.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Six eight three two one thirteen ten Wisconsin Badgers win
eighty eight sixty two over the Washington Huskies.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Keep it right here.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
You're listening to the JANK Scurity Solutions basketball postgame show.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
Blackwell against Mason. Six seconds Blackwell ride of the paint,
spins in the lane, bump, plays through it, plupped it
up and in and that's how the first half ends. Boy,
John Blackwell playing right through that contact Greg Garden one
and a hand one. They won't get that, but a
terrific first half. Nineteen points for John Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame show. Jay and K Security Solutions from home theaters,
so smart lighting to a universal home control, go online
to jksecurity dot com. Dave Gasper here with you alongside
Nick Bruswiz. The Badgers win eighty eight sixty two over
the Washington Huskies, and they did not get much from
(08:58):
Max Klesmitt in the game, just five minutes of game action.
Did not see him at all in the second half,
did not see him the latter half of the first half,
and instead, you know, it is a bit of a concern, Nick,
when one of your starters doesn't play for the rest
of this game. Now, granted the Badgers were fine. They
didn't really need him to win this game, but still
(09:21):
it's concerning that he's not able to play, not able
to be out there for the rest of this game
just five minutes. We'll get to two more on that
later when we hopefully get an update from Nick ostin
twenty four to seven Sports. But in the gap in
the void left by Max Klesmitt, Xavier Amos stepped up
today twelve points, four or five, shooting three or four
(09:42):
from beyond the arc. A big game for Amos, who
came in as a transfer with a lot of potential,
you know, scoring wise, we haven't really seen him realize
that much this year, but it was a big game
for Amos to step into that void.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I thought that tonight was his best game of the
year in terms of scoring production, which is pretty obvious.
It was his highest total, but the shot selection right,
He only missed one shot in tonight's contest. He was
able to connect with three three pointers, four or five
from the field, three or four from deep, a couple
of rebounds, and assist. It was a great game for
(10:18):
a guy that we have been waiting to kind of
have his signature performance of the season. So I've been
talking about it all year long that there are games
where you can say this is the guy and why
they won, This is the guy and why they won,
and how you've probably had at least six, maybe seven
different badgers that you can say definitively that their performance
(10:39):
put them over the top.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Tonight did Amos have to know?
Speaker 2 (10:43):
I think even if he didn't play tonight, even if
they only played seven guys, they probably still would have won.
But his effort out there, and his shot selection and
his timing in terms of finding the open spot and
getting the past, it's just what proves that this offense
he is clicking on all cylinders and Ken continue to
play at the level that they were prior to the
(11:05):
second half against Oregon. And it wasn't just him who
stepped up. Kamari McGee played a higher total of minutes.
He played well in the second half, in particular hustle plays.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Those are his fourte a.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
There was one where he dove and slid across honestly
a third of the court. It felt like skidding both
elbows but getting it off the opponent out of bounds,
and Jack Janicki you can see the confidence continue to
grow with him, and he hit that three late in
the second half. And everyone here went crazy because fan
favorite Jack Janicki, the guy who's done it quote unquote
(11:38):
the right way, stuck it out last year, decided he
wanted to stay instead of leaving, and now he has
earned this role, and I have to imagine in the
future he'll be pretty much a cornerstone at what they're
doing on the offensive side.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Of the ball.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yeah, I'd have to imagine Janicki's putting himself in line
to be a starter next year when we see some
of these guys Tanjay and Klesmidt and McGee graduate, you know,
after this season. But yeah, Janicki a fantastic performance from him,
having these guys step up him, Kamari McGee, Xavier Amos,
all of them really, you know, being able to step up,
(12:14):
and it is growing that confidence. That's really kind of
the important thing. You know, they were in pretty good
control of this game before Janicki hit that three. They
were already up twenty points. So it wasn't even necessarily
for winning this game, but it can be for winning
future games because when you get these guys some confidence,
get them rolling. A guy like Xavier Amos, a guy
(12:36):
like Jack Janicki, you know, when they can come in
there and know that that they have the ability to
shoot like that and step into those moments. That's going
to be crucial when we get to these big games
down the stretch, when we get the calendar over to March,
and when we go into those big games, whether it's
against Michigan State or the Big Ten Tournament or the
NCAA Tournament, that having that kind of confidence is going
(12:58):
to be crucial for these guys because you never know
who it is that steps up in March. It's always
gonna be someone and it's generally someone you don't expect.
And having all these guys, having Amos get a big
confidence game, a career high in points, having Janiki get
a couple of big shots, that's gonna be important for
the psyche of all these guys down the stretch as well.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Absolutely, in a game like this is such a palette
cleanser in terms of the bad taste that was left
in your mouth after an Oregon contest that certainly got
away from you in the second half. Right You're up big,
you had a sixteen point lead at one point in
the second half, and you lose, and you lose in overtime,
and you lose in a way that is incredibly detrimental
(13:39):
to your chances to win the Big Ten regular season title.
Now you find yourself fighting for that final four, that
top four in the conference, to get a double buy
to play on a Friday instead of a Thursday in
the Big Ten tournament coming.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Up in now two weeks.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
But you see how they won this game, and it
was dominance on the boards, right, forty one to twenty.
The Badgers have fifteen more rebounds, right, So you see
thirty three to nineteen in bench points, and that's catapulted
a little bit, right, of course with Klesman not playing
the majority of the game, so those bench points are inflated.
But you see the free throw percentage seventy five percent
(14:16):
for the Badgers, not perfect, but twelve of sixteen. You'll
take that versus three of eight for Washington. You've already
highlighted the fact that they had five turnovers their best
half in the Oregon game with six turnovers, and they
had seventeen total, so nearly three times as many last
time out, more than three times as many last time
out than they did today.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Right, So fifteen assists.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
The Badgers had nine assists in that last game, right,
so they corrected so many things that would be quote
unquote correctible, and this coaching staff and this team will
now need to prove that this was not just because
Washington is a bad team. They can do it again
hostile environment. They've already won three in a row in
the Breslent Center at Michigan State ne Lancing. Can they
(15:00):
make it four. That'd be remarkable. I don't think anyone's
done more than that.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
So yeah, they're gonna they're gonna have to get this
momentum rolling and carried over heading into that game against
Michigan State that's gonna be coming up here this weekend
on Sunday. That that is gonna be very important. But
you also got to enjoy this win. You know, you
gotta look at this like, Okay, we just had twenty
six point victory. That's fun, right. We can enjoy it
(15:26):
tonight and then look ahead to things tomorrow. But it
is very fun, which means we have to enjoy our
fun facts with Dave.
Speaker 8 (15:32):
Hey, have you ever heard me?
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Here's the term of fun fact. I got a couple
of fun facts here.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Because I have a fun fight.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
You're a fun fact.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I do first time in history this has happened that
eight games, five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.
Spent a long time since we've seen a game like this.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Welt to tap the fun out here.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
This game's fun.
Speaker 9 (15:53):
Okay, that fact is fun.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (15:56):
Are you fired up?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
I'm fired up for fun facts to day. All Right,
we got a couple of fun facts after age twenty
six point victory for the Wisconsin Badgers, and one of
the big reasons for it was John Blackwell, of course,
twenty four points for him and a notable stat as well,
(16:18):
ten rebounds. That sets a career high for rebounds for
John Blackwell, and it means he just had his first
career double doubles. So let's give some some flowers, a
little bit of applause there for John Blackwell first career
double double. There may be more coming for young Jones.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
That's all surprising to me, Dave.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
I actually thought he may have already gotten There's he's
had high single digit rebound games already.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
His career high was nine prior to this.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
You gotta give him his flowers because not many.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Guards attack the boards like he does, and that's what
makes him special. That extra effort that he has proven
time and time again that he had as that extra
gear in terms of I'm not just gonna score, I'm
gonna provide in other ways. And he took a lot
of contact, and there was a lot of contact. There
was a holder breath moment late in the game when
john Tonjay got landed on. Has already highlighted Kamari McGee
(17:14):
and Blackwell took a couple of shots too. But yeah,
no doubt about it. Awesome game, double double.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, after Tanjay got landed on, I think it wasn't
much longer until Greg Guard was like, hey, you know what, John,
why don't you grab a seat on the bench rest
of the game. This one's in hand, there's only a
couple minutes to go. I think that was a wise
why out get him out of there? But speaking of
john Tonjay, a fantastic transition there, Nick, But john Tonjay,
(17:41):
you know when he gets foult there, gets landed on,
goes to the free throw line, gets a couple more
free throws under his belt. Four free throws in this game.
John Tonjay has now moved up into a tie for
third for the third most free throws made in a season.
In Badger's history with one hundred and sixty eight, and
he's tied with Clarence Sharad who had one hundred and
(18:03):
sixty eight free throws in nineteen seventy. That nineteen seventy
season keeps on coming up, Nick when we keep on
talking about this offense and the scoring output we haven't
seen since nineteen seventy. Oh, Clarien Charad was basically the
John Tanjay of that team. From what I can gather now,
I wasn't there for nineteen seventy. I wasn't there for
(18:24):
that team. Maybe if Patton walkshow can give us, you know,
an idea of what that team was rolling with. But
that John Tanjay is getting up there. So yeah, third
most free throws in history, and he's got a chance
chase down that number one spot for most free throws
in a season, which belongs to Nigel Hayes. Believe, as
(18:45):
far as you away, Nigel Hayes is at one to
ninety for the top spot. Thought a little bit to go,
but he can get there if he can get a
couple of couple of nice games there. And our final
fun fact, Stephen Krow is it's now a part of
one hundred wins in his Badger's career. He is just
(19:06):
the eighth player in program history to play in one
hundred wins. So there's some flowers for Steven Crowley. He's
stuck around five years. He's been a part of five
or been a part of one hundred wins. Only eight
players in Badger's history can say that.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Well done, Big Steve. I knew that one was coming, Dave.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
One hundred wins, that's pretty crazy, and I don't know
how many more guys will even reach that number. And
the current climate of college basketball, sticking with one program
that long maybe unheard of moving forward.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah, it is not very common anymore in the air
of the transfer portal. But Big Steve he gets his
flowers for that as well. So those are our fun
facts here on fun facts with Dave. And another fun
fact just kind of bonus one here. Nick Osen is
going to join us on the other side from twenty
four to seven Sports.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
He's going to give us.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
His insight, his thoughts after this Badger's win eight sixty
two of the final score that's coming up.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Keep it right here.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
This is the jan K Security Solutions Basketball postgame show.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
Steps back turned it down fourteen to shoot McGee driving
right on the link up by Davids.
Speaker 8 (20:14):
Her first layup is good head.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Kamar McGhee putting on a show at both ends of
the floor here sixty to forty two Wisconsin with twelve
and a half minutes remaining and McGee urging on the
crowd here at the Coles Center.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Welcome back to the J and K Security Solutions Basketball
postgame Show. From home security to automation, Jay and K
Security Solutions has you covered? Go to jksecurity dot com
for more info, and for more info for US, we
go to Nick Osin of twenty four to seven Sports.
He joins us now here on the postgame show after
this Badger's eighty eight to sixty two win over the
(20:51):
Huskies of Washington and Nick, the Badgers did it tonight
without one of their starters, Max Klesmett, played just five
minutes in the first half. Did not see him at
all in the second half. Do you have an update
at all on Max Kleusmit's stanus.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
I do, Dave, So I guess first from the outset,
I will say coach guard said lower leg. I believe
from kind of what I've seen, whether that was early
on tonight or just kind of what's been happening with
him throughout the season.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
I think it's kind of like an ankle.
Speaker 9 (21:21):
So obviously Guard was accurate without maybe going to in depth,
and I personally just felt like it's obviously bothering him
a little bit. But I also feel like if this
were I don't know, second weekend in March, you know,
maybe I could have seen him test that out a
little bit more.
Speaker 10 (21:38):
So.
Speaker 9 (21:38):
I think it makes sense trust your teammates, don't overdo it,
and obviously, like you said, my friend, they took care
of business without him for the vast majority of the evening.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
When you look at tonight's contest, it starts with John Blackwell,
when we talk about the performances, right first career double double,
I felt like he already had already been there before.
But his career high was nine rebounds coming into tonight,
But the nineteen points in the first half, and a
lot of dummies on the internet thinking that he wasn't
engaged in that Oregon game, that he wasn't locked in,
that he didn't give it his all. I think he
(22:09):
proved some people wrong at least tonight, and what he
did in the first half, let alone the whole game.
Speaker 9 (22:14):
Yeah, Nick, I think you're exactly right. You know, it
felt like, and we talked about it. It wasn't Blackwell's
best game by any means on Saturday, But I don't
think it's fair to say some of those things like
you referred to from people online.
Speaker 10 (22:26):
But it did.
Speaker 9 (22:27):
Feel like he was looking to prove a point, maybe
not to people like that, but to himself, teammates, the staff,
just because like knowing him and the competitor, he is
maybe the most competitive person on this team. I imagine
he was hurting after that one, and he was, as
Danny Sprinkle said tonight, best player on the floor in
my eyes by far. I think he probably could have
(22:47):
had around thirty to thirty five if he wanted to
shoot more. Obviously played a little more. But what stood
out to me the most was just how easy he
made some of that look, whether it was a couple
three pointers driving to the cup, which I know we
both love, beautiful like NBA like mid range jumpers, terrific performance.
We know his capability as a star, and it was
really nice to see. Heading into Michigan State.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Nick another guy who had a terrific performance here tonight.
Xavier Amis, he really kind of stepped up without Max
Klusman in the lineup, got some extended action fifteen minutes
and twelve points, four or five shooting. Just a really
strong game from him, a career high in points. And
we were kind of coming into the season, we were
kind of maybe expecting a little bit more from Xavier Amos,
(23:33):
you know, on the scoring side of things, and we
haven't seen it as much. But what did you what
did you like from what you saw from Xavier Amis tonight?
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Yeah, Dave, I liked a lot.
Speaker 9 (23:41):
I mean, I think the twelve points obvious, right, but
I think really the comfort and confidence when you watched
him like at times and you guys know this, like
he's somebody that I feel like his game is so
good in today's kind of day and age in this offense,
but it's been a matter of kind of putting it
together and itt like he really did that tonight. Eighty
(24:02):
percent from the field, showed some of that long range ability.
I thought he made a nice defensive player two and
nothing felt forced. And I believe it was another reporter
kind of in our row postgame asking Xavier just about
his comfort and I think he was really honest in saying,
you know, sometimes I rush it, or sometimes it's maybe
not in rhythm or so. I thought it was great tonight.
(24:23):
And again, you guys know, one of my biggest things
this year, I trust nine or ten guys on this
team to play meaningful minutes, and he just kind of
reminded me of what he can do. Really refreshing to
see and happy for the young man as well.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
We saw Kamari McGee play added minutes in the absence
of Klesmans and a lot of guys did of course, right,
we talked about a mis Kamari McGee, Jack Janicki in
the second half, right, those were the guys that you
find the crowd kind of get a little bit higher for,
get a little bit more up for because he loved
to roof for the underdogs. And those two are the
two guys that have been the most along with Gilmore
(24:58):
credited for it the right way, right. The guys that
have stuck it out have earned their roles, that have
chipped away a year after year to build into the
position that they are in the rotation now. So confidence
level as we now trend towards the end of the
regular season. You just said you're confident in nine to
ten guys, but you know, push come to shove. These
moments are going to become more pressure filled, more important
(25:21):
in higher stakes. Guys like Gilmour and McGee in their
final run, do you think that they've got what it
takes to kind of continue this production into those bigger moments.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Nick, I'll say this.
Speaker 9 (25:32):
This might be a bit of a take, as they say,
but I think I trust Cam McGee as much as
anybody on this team, honestly, because I don't just look
at the stats. I mean, obviously we're here beautiful opportunities,
we're seeing the game, but again, he doesn't force things.
We know what he can do. Defensively, he's a leader,
his teammates love him. We know that his shooting ability
(25:53):
is soaring this year, and I like seeing a couple
of his finishes in the paint, getting past contact, a
couple fast drives really the last couple of games. So
I'd say, without a doubt, you know, Gilmour, you don't
need it offensively. He's shown he can do it, but
you don't always need it. So I think that's great
and JANICKI man, I said it. I think two shows
ago with with you guys, my friends, I think that
(26:14):
he's gonna be a top five ur option in this
group next year. I really think his game is that complete.
So all of that to say, yes, I very much
trust those guys, and I think you know you knock
on wood, keep healthy going forward.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Last one for you here, Nick, just kind of building
off what Nick said about guys sticking it out in
this area and doing things right way. Stephen Kraw is
one of those guys that has stuck it out in Wisconsin,
and tonight he earned his one hundredth victory as member
of the Wisconsin Badgers, just the eighth player in program
history to have done that. Is that something, and Nick
(26:55):
brought this up a bit earlier, Is that something you
think we're not going to see too much of any
more in this era of the transfer portal.
Speaker 9 (27:03):
Yeah, I don't think you'll probably ever see it again,
quite honestly because of the portal, because of how good
he's been and those teams, but also the COVID year
factor and unless the NCAA changes to that five year
so everybody which has been talked about that obviously works
against people coming up as well. But still, you guys
(27:23):
know my thoughts on Steve. I've just been so impressed
with him. And again, even though Washington they're not a
good team, and you guys know I'm never critical, but
some of those buckets over six', eight six,' nine falling
away lefty hook high off, the Glass like steve's showing, me,
something GUYS and i do feel like four and a
half minutes Aside, last saturday this team is in a really.
(27:46):
GOOD spot i think we're gonna get a great chance
to see how they Match up sunday At The.

(29:05):
guard certainly was as he met Up With matt Lapey
And brian butch after.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
The game we are.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
Joining court side by Head Coach. Greg guard game, ended
Early so peacock had some time to fill in there
getting up to.
Speaker 8 (29:16):
The clock that was a, quick one That was and only.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
Five turnovers you start with any number, of things but
only five turnovers probably not a bad place.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
To, START yeah i mean that was that's.
Speaker 11 (29:25):
OBVIOUSLY good i, you know those assist numbers, being up,
you know, you know if you can assist at least
on a close to fifty percent of, your baskets.
Speaker 8 (29:33):
We were not near that On, on saturday AND so i.
Speaker 11 (29:36):
Just told me the the, ball movement the aggressiveness. We
were we were in attack mode from pretty much start
to finish and from a lot of. Different people so
it was good. To, See, Obviously Uh, john blackwell, you
know really brought his. A game and, you know just
the contributions we Got from jenicky and McGee and amos off.
THE bench i thought they were all aggressive AND like,
(29:57):
I said steve anchored the paint h and really a good,
team win a good solid across, the board very consistent
And very it's exactly what you would hope the bounce back.
Speaker 10 (30:08):
Would, Be yeah washington through you guys at one three,
to one which you guys knew was. Gonna call but
it kind of slowed down the pace there for a. Little,
bit yeah is it good to see different defenses just
knowing where. You're, going Yeah into march, LIKE that i
could because we. Big template you don't see a Lot,
of no, you don't you don't. See that just it's kind.
OF good, i mean in, MY opinion i looked at,
it great just. Great reps like, you know you got
to find how to to find, that pace right to
(30:30):
find that.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Ball, movement yeah and the biggest thing against that was
when we didn't do well, against it was because.
Speaker 8 (30:35):
We played in.
Speaker 11 (30:35):
Panic MODE like, i said the thing isn't a grenade
or a, Hot potato like just, calm down make a,
ball fake make a. Shot fake there's, somebody open just.
Find them and. We did, you know we're able to
do that much better once we got a little feel
and you get a little feel. For it, you know
we worked on it, in practice but they do it
every day we. Are one three to one is a.
Little different it's not as maybe. As EXTENDED and i
(30:58):
thought on film they they did some good things with
they've they've given some team some trouble, with it, and uh,
you know we were able to once we figured, it out,
you know it was it was.
Speaker 7 (31:08):
Much better one of the things you've already touched on.
It here we've talked about it. This season the depth that,
you Guys say, kamara McGee, you know gets out there
and gets a lot of minutes in the. Second half
his max kind of sits out the second half of.
The game BUT it's i don't know if luxury is the,
right word but it's got to be of some comfort
to you and your staff to know that if you
got to go, in there it's not just a guy
(31:29):
who's going to hold the fort to the next media.
Time out it's somebody who's gonna make things happen on
the gas when he's on. The floor and we've done that.
Speaker 11 (31:36):
All year he's really been a great he's a great
additive when he steps on. The floor, and THEN like,
I said gilmore has done that throughout. The year And
then Jack, TO nikki i thought the more, he played
the better. He, got tonight he just got, really comfortable.
Really aggressive he was everywhere and and it showed just
with his production and and the things he did defensively on.
The glass it's good. To see it was a good
(31:59):
experience for him to get in there and get extended run.
Speaker 10 (32:02):
You like A big steve getting a hundred career wins pretty,
pretty good pretty good winning percentage their. For, him yes
this means you've got a pretty good winnings, Percentage too
but it impacts winning so many different ways he does.
Speaker 11 (32:13):
HE does, i mean he's, just uh, you know, four
assists one turnover scores when he needs. To score, you
KNOW like, i said he was uh he's just really
solid all the, way around. And happy happy. For him
obviously he's played with on a lot of good teams
and won a lot of won a lot, of games
and hopefully a lot more.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
To go that's one of the best things about This
tam you've got guys who've been on those big stages
here as you as you press through the end of,
this season so you get a little chance to exhale
tomorrow and then it's in a few days Off To,
michigan state a little little break time, and.
Speaker 11 (32:45):
Yeah you know we get tomorrow is our normal, day
off and and then we got three days here to
prep and, you know get ready for obviously a Really
Good michigan.
Speaker 8 (32:54):
State team, all right go. Enjoy it, we will, all right.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
