zero zero eighty six. That is the text line. That

(01:29):
is the phone line. And again, be a part of
the program anytime any place you where on our website
clipsosportsaw dot com. Tiger Baseball goes West gets the sweep
of Cal. It wasn't easy, but they got the job done.
The job done. In the NCAA Tournament, Nearly, ah nearly

(01:52):
had a chance to finish in the top three. In
my bracket, I had Florida and Duke playing for it all.
Florida over Auburn, check, Duke over Houston. Check not so fast,
my friends. The Blue Devils led by nine with two

(02:14):
minutes at fifteen seconds remaining in the game, They led
by seven with a minute at twenty six, They led
by six with forty two seconds left. It was a
meltdown of epic proportion as Houston outscores Duke fifteen to
three over the final two minutes and change to have

(02:37):
the biggest comfort behind victory in Vinyl four history. We've
never seen anything.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
As the Duke Blue Devils melt it down.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Don't part right what y've done?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Malaie, malie, what the world? What the world? Yes, the
Duke Blue Devils fall, melt down, just choke job at
the Final four. So we put out a pole question

(03:16):
Sunday evening, late Sunday night, because I wanted to give
it plenty of time to Marinade, give you guys a
chance to chime in. But would you rather lose the
way Clemson did in the NCAA tournament or the way
Duke did? And there's a lot that goes into that, right,

(03:38):
Clemson's loss is a first round exit, scoring what just
thirteen points in the first half, roaring back at the end,
and then just not having enough in the tank, or
you're Duke and you're in the Final four and you

(04:01):
have the game in your hand and you melt it
down and you end up losing. Of course, Cooper Flag
had a key foul when the Duke Blue Devels went
to the free throw line late and Tyree's Proctor would
miss the front of the front end of a one
to one and then on the rebound. A lot of

(04:23):
people were complaining about it, and there may have been
a pretty good argument that there should not have been
a foul call. I mean, if we're gonna have some
tiki tag fouls, that's not exactly the one I'd like
to see. I would have preferred to see that game
be played out. But there was a foul called on
Cooper Flag during that free throw attempt from Procter or

(04:47):
that miss from Proctor, and Juwan Roberts, who was boxing
out Flag because the Duke Blue Devels already had seven fouls,
went to the free throw line and Roberts, who was
three of eight from the free throw line in last
year's Sweet Sixteen, lost to Duke and shot about sixty

(05:07):
two percent somewhere right in that range. It was like
sixty two point seven percent or something. When he took
those free throws, goes to the line and the senior
knocks down bow free throws to give Houston the lead.
Then on the next possession, Cooper Flagg tries to go

(05:29):
one on one, kind of misses a little shot in
the lane and that was it. A nine zero run
to close it out. I believe was the number. And
one of the funny moments was after the game when
they were talking with Kelvin Sampson. I guess it was

(05:50):
his sid was filling him in on the fact that
it was an all time come from behind. When in
the final four, Kelvin Sampson had a little quip because
they were down fourteen. He said, well, thankfully or something
along this line, thankfully we worn't down seventeen, something like that.

(06:12):
Here he is finding out that news after the game
as he's walking in the locker room.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
It's biggest comeback conin force was it was their biggest
depths fourteen. I thank you wasn't sus so.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I don't know if you could hear that or not,
but his line was good thing it wasn't seventeen. When
he finds out that being down fourteen points was the
largest comeback in Final four history. That was with eight
seventeen Romania that they were up, that the Duke Blue
Devils were up by fourteen when Tyresh Proctor hit a
free throw and the Blue Devils controlled that ballgame, only

(06:53):
to have it blow up squarely in their face. Duke
is the only team the only team to have an
NCUBA tournament game with a higher field goal percentage, more
free throw attempts, more assist, fewer turnovers, and more steals

(07:18):
than their opponent and still lose, dating back to nineteen
eighty six, when steals became an official statistic that the
NCUBA tracked. Since that time, since nineteen eighty six, teams
have been three hundred thirty five and oh in the

(07:41):
NCAA Tournament when winning those categories in a ball game,
three hundred thirty five and oh, well, now three hundred
thirty five and one. You can chalk it up as
the Duke Blue Devils, who were square barely in control
of the game with eight seventeen left up fifty nine

(08:04):
to forty five, end up losing seventy sixty seven after
a furious Houston rally. Just an incredibly wild finish kept
me from finishing in the top three in my bracket,
and now we've got Florida and Houston for all the marbles.

(08:27):
They enter tonight's game with identical thirty five and four
records should be a good one out of San Antonio
this evening. Houston, according to ESPN's matchup predictor, has a
sixty five point five percent chance of winning. Florida, according

(08:47):
to Vegas, is about a one and a half point favorite.
And if you haven't watched Walter Clayton Junior play for
the Florida Gators in this tournament, you are missing some
spectacular play. Mean, Walter Clayton Junior has been on fire

(09:09):
in this tournament out really outside of the game against
Maryland where he scored just thirteen points. I mean, you
look at what they've done in the tournament. Twenty three
against Norfolk State, twenty three against Yukon, thirty against Texas Tech,

(09:30):
and thirty four on Saturday night against Auburn in a
seventy nine seventy three win for the Florida Gators, giving
us our final matchup of the college basketball season tonight,
tip off eight point fifty on CBS. Another late night
affair could have been an eight o'clock tip. That wouldn't

(09:53):
hurt anybody's feelings, would it. Heck, I don't think would
have hurt anybody's feelings if it was a seven to
fifty tip eight fifty tonight on CBS, just late enough
that many of you won't even stay up to see
in one shining moment, Yeah, you know, one shining moment.
Surely there'll be some tribute to Greg Gumble again, who

(10:15):
passed away. Obviously that was a big moment during the
selection show. But Gumble being such a huge part of
the NCUBLEA tournament, I would be hard pressed not to
believe that he gets some sort of recognition tonight as well.
But man, what a crazy, crazy finish in that Duke

(10:40):
Houston game. And so again the pole question, who would
you rather lose like in the NC DOUBLEA tournament, Clemson
the way the Tigers did or Duke the way the
Blue Devils did. You know, personally, I'd rather lose the
way Clemson did. And you'll say, but you'd have been

(11:00):
in the final four. Yeah, I'm kind of taking that
not into account for like, oh, Clemson has never been right,
Like some of you will say, well, I would prefer
to lose the way Duke did, because it would have
meant I was in a final four. I'm choosing to
look at it as if, Okay, would you prefer to

(11:22):
lose like that in the final four oof or have
a terrible first half in the opening round and not advance. See,
I'm of the mindset I'd rather just do what Clemson did.
I'd rather just have that kind of loss and go,

(11:43):
oh well, we'll turn the page to next year. For Duke,
imagine how long it's going to take them to get
over the loss and the heartbreak and the fans that
just knew, the fans that just knew they were going
to win that ballgame on Saturday night, they had it

(12:05):
in the bag. I saw a post on TikTok where
it was going through the live here. You know, as
a matter of fact, I can't find it on TikTok
right now, But I know I can find it if
I go to the matchup from Saturday night on ESPN

(12:26):
and look at the slider, you know, that winning percentage
chance that they put out you that shows what your
odds are to win the game. Yeah, let me see
if I can walk you through what that looked like.
Because there was a post on social media. They had
all of that in there, and it was like Duke
was like an eighty six point seven percent chance to win.

(12:48):
All right, here we go, let's see percent chance. Okay,
win probability. Yeah, this is what I want, I think,
all right. So with eight forty five left, that's still
a long time. Eight forty five left, Duke led fifty
eight to forty five. That's a thirteen point lead. But

(13:10):
you know the swany number, right, You know how the
Swanee math works. You take the time remaining, which was
eight forty five, and you multiply that by two. It's
about nine, right, So nine minutes times two is eighteen,
and Houston was only down thirteen at the time, So

(13:31):
they were still in the ballgame. If you will, they
continue to battle, they get it back to with four
thirty seven left, they were down four. They're within range
just one point. But then Duke explodes from there, from
the four thirty seven mark to the two thirty mark,

(13:55):
Duke goes up from fifty nine fifty five to sixty
five fifty five. Duke has a nine point advantage two
point two minutes and twenty six seconds left. Again, if
you multiply that by two, you're at like five. At
this point, Houston is in much more trouble than they

(14:16):
have been at any moment in the ballgame, in my opinion,
using the Swanny method, They're down by nine, and your
minute number when you multiply it out, is five. You're
almost double behind where you need to be ninety six
percent chance Duke wins the game. At that point. Fast

(14:39):
forward to a minute and twenty seven seconds remaining, Duke
is up sixty four to fifty nine and has a
eighty three point seven percent chance to win the game.
That number would go back up to ninety two point
three percent. At sixty seven sixty one, with forty two

(14:59):
seconds left, Duke up by six, they had a ninety
two point three percent chance to win, and that number
would dwindle down to eighty four point seven when Houston
hit a three to cut it to sixty seven sixty four.
That number would dwindle to sixty seven percent when Tyres

(15:21):
Proctor missed his free throw with twenty seconds left with
Duke up sixty seven to sixty excuse me, sixty seven
to sixty six, And then when Houston would take the lead,
it would immediately flip from a sixty seven percent chance
that Duke was gonna win to a sixty point two
percent chance that Houston was gonna win, and the Cougars

(15:45):
closed it out. They had only been on the positive side.
Kelvin Samps's team had only been on the positive side
of the percent chance to win the game when they
were up three to nothing and when they were up
four to two. I think every other portion of that game,
actually when they were up six to five was the
final time until the last twenty seconds of that ballgame

(16:13):
when the Houston Cougars topped the Duke Blue Devils. Cooper
Flag had twenty seven points on eight of nineteen from
the floor, eight of eight from the free throw line,
but in front of sixty eight thousand, two hundred and
fifty two fans in San Antonio, when the Chips were down,

(16:35):
the Blue Devils couldn't finish. And I know there are
Duke fans out there complaining about the foul call on
Cooper Flag, And there's a couple of reasons why I
think people feel that way, Because it did appear like
there was a little bit of what you'd label kind

(16:57):
of like the hook and hold from the Houston ballplayer.
I forgot his name. I just said it earlier. Let
me look it up. Juwan Roberts look like he had
kind of a little hook and hold. But then the
way it appeared, I think to the official on the
backside was that Cooper Flag was going over his back

(17:18):
and Flag was flabbergasted that there was a foul. And
again I said earlier, I'd like to see the guys
play it out. I'd like to see the officials let
that go. But then I also think to myself, like,
in the moment you're up by one, and if you
know that you are in the penalty and that you're

(17:40):
gonna send them to the line with a foul, you
can't be that aggressive. If you're Cooper Flagg and you
don't have inside position, you just can't. Whether it's the
right call or not, you don't give them a chance
to give Houston opportunity for just free throws to take

(18:02):
the lead. Like, you have to be smarter, in my opinion,
you have to be smarter in that moment and you
just have to say, Okay, I'm gonna let him get
that rebound. It can't be one where you battle over
the top. You just it just can't be. And I

(18:26):
know that that's a level of frustration because you want
to be aggressive, but it's just like everything else, you
have to know the situation. You have to know the situation.
You have to know you're up by one, you have
to know you could send them to the free throw line.
Now you get unlucky that Roberts hits both free throws

(18:46):
as a guy that shoots about sixty two percent, But
in that moment, you'd rather play d in my opinion,
you'd rather play defense. A zero three four five zero
zero eighty six. We'll look at the pole question and
just a little bit to see what everybody thinks about it.

(19:08):
Plus looking forward, looking forward to chatting it up with
our good buddy William Qualkin Bush to see how he's
doing after a little West coast trip. Man, what a
what a ride for the Clemson Tigers this weekend as

(19:29):
they travel all the way to Berkeley, California to take
on the cow Bears, and Clemson comes away with a
clean sweep, breaking out the brooms. Welcome to the acc
cow At. Clemson wins six' four On friday thirteen to
three and seven innings On, saturday and four to three

(19:51):
yesterday in the evening or the afternoon game there In.
California all, right quick, break we'll hear From Eric backete
to talk about the. Series right after, this rocking and
rolling along with you on A monday, afternoon the show
that shakes the South land. Again clemson baseball goes out
To california and brings back a three game. Sweep they
get a few days off their back at it On

(20:13):
wednesday Against Gardner webb At Doug Kingsmore. Stadium they'll take
on The. Bulldogs is that the running? Bulldogs they? Are
they the running bulldogs in all? Sports, Anyway i'll have
To i'll check seven o'clock on THE Acc network On.
Wednesday and then this Weekend clemson all Welcome stanford across

(20:34):
the country as The Stanford Cardinal venture Into clemson On, Friday,
saturday And. Sunday REMEMBER i was talking about the scheduling
thing LAST i GUESS i Was friday looking at like
the teams that play cal also go To stanford or

(20:54):
vice versa or, Whatever and that's kind of the way it.
Looked but the other THING i was wondering WHEN i
really started looking into, it IS i wonder if.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
The the the.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Softball team from those schools as often as possible have
the same travel you know WHAT i. Mean, like, so
if Baseball stanford baseball is coming To, clemson not necessarily
Is stanford softball also coming To clemson this, weekend but

(21:28):
Is stanford softball also playing on The east? Coast and
what got me thinking about that Is clemson softball was
playing At stanford this, weekend AND i don't know if
they all traveled Together stanford And. Berkeley i'm not sure
how far Apart stanford And cal, are but if you

(21:51):
were gonna take everybody out there and then bust from
one side of the state to the, other let's see
IF i can find the distance Between that's what got
me thinking about. It two hundred and one hundred and
thirty seven miles Between cal And, stanford so two and
a half three. Hours whatever that ends up being dependent
on that might be as the crow, flaws but either,

(22:13):
way that's what got me thinking about, It, LIKE i
wonder if that's how they're trying to save a little
bit by both of those schools traveling together on the
same flight and then maybe one of the two teams
busting if they weren't playing at the same. Venue BUT
i have no idea AND i don't have the time
to go through the schedule and check that. Out but either,
way for The Clemson tiger baseball, team they did complete

(22:35):
the three game sweep over the Cow bears On, sunday
but it began On friday. Night and WHAT i, really you,
know thinking back a few days on that, recall was
how strange it was to have that game on so.
Late and so we had a soccer game and then

(23:00):
my son went out to eat with some friends At
Buffalo Wild wing and WHEN i left the, House clemson
was down to nothing and this would have been AROUND
i don't, know, ten maybe something like. That and by
the time we got, back ONCE i scooped him back,
UP i Think clemson had taken like a six 's two.
Lead it maybe even been six,' four which was the

(23:21):
final score in that. Ball game but the whole late
night aspect, of it and we talked about it going, into,
it well it was, Real right there was no doubt.
About it when you're watching that Game on. Friday Night
dominic listy hit a homer in the sixth inning and
the go ahead two run double in the, seventh inning
Which propelled clemson to that six to four victory to

(23:43):
kick off the series in the. Right fashion Then, on
Saturday the tigers took no time in dismantling The cow
bears on their. Home turf clemson came out and scored
six runs in, the first seven runs in the second
to jump out to an early thirteen. Nothing lead cal
at that point's pretty much threatened by the. Run rule

(24:07):
they would scratch three, runs back but still trail by
ten at the end of, seven innings which of course
Would give clemson a thirteen to three win and a
little lighter work For the tigers before the final, game
yesterday When the tigers would win four to Three After
luke gafney's sacrificed flying the seventh inning broke a three

(24:29):
to three tie and Lifted the tigers to a four to,
three Win given clemson, a sweep their fifth win in.
A row they're now thirty, And five they're nine and
three IN the Acc, and, clemson AGAIN as i mentioned
just a little, bit ago Will Host gardner Webb On

(24:49):
Military appreciation Day At Doug Kingsmore stadium wednesday at. Seven
o'clock that game's gonna be ON The Acc. Network extra
Here's Coach eric Beckett following clemson's Sweep.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
On sunday tough, to sweep tough to win on, the
road and, our guys, you know earned a hard.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Fought sweep this weekend against a really good.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Cal team, the pitching, the defense the timely hitting all weekend.
Was outstanding our pitching staff only issued five walks, all weekend,
which is, you know just an outstanding.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Effort of guys coming in and counting the.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Strike zone the defense that we played might have been
one of The Biggest Bright spots championship. Level defense hitting
committed error all.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Weekend long and then the two out RBIs the.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
Timely hits none Bigger Than tristan bissetta's pinch hit.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Just three, to zero count Two runs jack to take.
The league that.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Was big but guys just getting done in different ways
and just very proud of those effort all. Weekend long
so it'll be a about as happy of A red
eye flight as you.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Can have.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Those, ships sucked but we'll make it a good one
and ready to get back to work. This week Gardener
reb Web, On wednesday appreciate the crowd that showed up
here all the time of faithfull Out, in california.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Look forward to getting back TO. The DKs then have
been a couple.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Of weeks so we got a lot to CELEBRATE at DKs,
this week and got some new new FEATURES at DKs,
this weekend and looked forward to seeing everybody out which,
in fun. Rowdy fashion but you're gonna be a great
week of ball ahead and proud of.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Our effort Here That's eric beckett's Talking about clemson series
Sweepover cal one of the noticeable things for me looking
at that STADIUM and i can't wait to Talk With
william qualkinbush, about it just how small it looked by
Comparison To Doug. Kingsmore stadium And so clemson wins thirty.
And five. All right we didn't even mention the spring

(26:51):
game out of gates, quite FRANKLY because, i, mean yeah
there were some. Bright Spots Obviously tristan smith had a,
huge day but it wasn't. ON television a lot of
people didn't have a chance to, see it and, you
know the format. WAS strange i told you Here, ON
friday i DIDN'T think i didn't think that the defense

(27:13):
stood a snowballs chance in a microwave to win if
they didn't get some. ADDITIONAL points i thought twenty one
would have been a good number to. Give them had
you given the defense twenty one out of, the gates
they would. Have won it would have been thirty six. Thirty,
three instead the offense wins it thirty three. To fifteen
so we'll talk about the spring game when we. Get

(27:34):
back stay with us rolling along On, a monday they
Show the Shakespare South Land Clemson sports Tall. On swan
hope if you were Up in tigertown for the spring game,
this weekend that you Stopped By alumni hall right there
on the corner of Campus On college Avenue With Downtown
Clemson alumnae hall for all, your hats, t, shirts, gifts
likes officially licensed merchandise and apparel For Your. Clemson tigers

(27:56):
upgrade those stickers for. Your vehicle shop for Items by
nike yet under. Armour more you just never know what
new item you can add to your Collection At. Alumni
hall go check them out or shop online at alumni haul.
Dot Com It's alumni Hall where tiger. Fans shop and
if you were up There, at clemson you got a

(28:18):
chance to see Why the tigers Really Like. Tristan Smith
tristan smith caught five passes for one hundred and thirty
seven yards in, a Touchdown leading clemson's offense to a
thirty three fifteen victory over. The defense in the twenty
twenty five. Spring, Game again clemson used an offense versus,
defense format and we went through last week about how

(28:42):
you know points were gonna. Be done defense could get
some points in some. DIFFERENT ways i didn't think the
defense had a good chance.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
TO win.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
I thought they need to be spotted about twenty, one
POINTS as i mentioned before, the break and that would have.
Made it that would have made it better in. My
opinion but, You Know David, IZIA mume i think eleven
attempts sixty nine yards and had a thirty yard touchdown
run to help seal the victory for. THE offense i
think that obviously excited a lot. Of People khalil barnes

(29:16):
had an interception in the game Of k klubnick to
give the defense an early six. ZERO lead i think
the defense had a fourth down stop as well early
in the game that was worth three plus the turnover was.
Worth three, YOU know I think clipson did what they
could with it to make, It INTERESTING but i mean

(29:37):
it's it was a. SPRING game i do think that
this year less than any other year in recent memory
when you've kind of had these teams going head, TO
head i don't think you're gonna have a bunch of
people running around this season, going Well Maybe trent peerman
should be. THE starter, I mean pyramid did throw, an

(30:01):
interception but he also Connected with smith for a seventy two.
Yard touchdown the funny thing about that touchdown for Me
is smith racing to the end zone holding up the,
Number one and it was the Image that clemson used
in the press release that. Came out we used it
on our website, as Well clemsons sports dot. Dot com

(30:22):
but everybody on the sideline is also pointing the, number
One and i'm gonna have to start. Paying attention.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (30:30):
The noise is that something everybody does now when somebody
gets off to, the races do you just point and
give the number? One signal or is that something that
they had planned for the? Spring GAME so i gotta.
Really look. We'll see, but anyway.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
It was a.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Spring game i'm hoping it's the. Final, One honestly i'm
hoping that the Future of spring games looks more Like
What dion Sanders And frank brown wanted them to. Look
like that would make for a much More. Exciting spring
it's probably part of THE reason i didn't mention out of.

(31:07):
THE gates i Don't, really yeah what were you gonna
take away? FROM it, i mean the good News Is
tristan smith looked. Really Good tristan smith looked. Really good
but he wasn't exactly going up against the top flight
dbs in some of, those, Plays either so. There's, that
anyhow we did see the beer Prices in clypson kind

(31:31):
of talked about the the Money that clemson would hope
to generate from. Beer, sales well here, you go a
Domestic Beer, miller Lite bud light, nine dollars a premium
Beer Like mick Ultra or modello. Eleven dollars how about

(31:54):
one of Those white Claw Black cherry seltzers eleven bucks
bottled waters for three dollars and roasted peanuts for five
At the tiger. BEER stands, i mean that's a, pretty.
Penny folks that's a pretty penny for a beverage. Of
choice by, the way the bottle. WATER deal i don't

(32:18):
know if you guys, know this but you can go
At any clemson game and get. Free water just a little.
Heads up all you gotta do is go to like the,
go to like the little nurses station or whatever they.
Call it they got water over there for you as
much as. You, want legally they have to give that.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
To you.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Canned wines are. Ten dollars i'm not sure what a canned,
wine is, but hey more power. To you, all right
we'll hear Some From dabo sweeney right Now following clempson's,
spring game and we'll hear a little bit more from
him here in the back end of our number one
and we'll probably Squeeze some sweeney In on tuesday show.

(33:01):
As well but here's what he had to say Just
after clemson spring Game.

Speaker 6 (33:05):
On saturday, All, right well first, of all just appreciate
our fans.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Coming out it, was, awesome stayed we had a.

Speaker 6 (33:12):
GREAT crowd I think i think there was people here
like seven am that had the surplus l, this morning
there was a bunch of people Here And tiger walk.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Was awesome, it's.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
Always, you know fun to, do that but especially now
that we've got, you know the little ceremony there where
we were unvailed the captains in the In The tiger.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Walk concrete that was that.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
Was SPECIAL and i had a great team meeting, this
morning so just, you know just just an, awesome day
just a.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Beautiful day you got to see a bunch of, former
players a bunch of guys. In town had had several.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
Of them actually come to our team meeting, this morning
so that was that was a. Real Treat grady jarretty
and one, of them, YOU know i think that's. Really
cool he's been on since twenty fourteen and he just
makes it a priority to come back here every single
YEAR and i really.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
Appreciate that but just an, awesome, day awesome. AWESOME day
i thought we were.

Speaker 6 (34:05):
Able to get the amount of plays that we needed
to get and the, WHOLE thing i think was an
hour and, a half, you know when we really kind
of wrapped it up and we got a chance to
get everybody in the game and again get the snap
but we kind of without having IT, on tv we're
able to kind of cut out all the delays and
the time and.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
All that so it was it was actually really good and.

Speaker 6 (34:25):
And fun, you know a lot of guys flashed and
did some, good stuff but just, an awesome. Awesome DAY
and i appreciate our fans giving us. THAT environment I
cannot i cannot overstate or, appropriately quantify you know how
how special that is to be able to have an
environment and an opportunity to have a game feel that's

(34:49):
the best we.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Can do and we won't get that again until WE.
Play lsu so there.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
You go some openie Comments From dabos. Sweeny two what
we'll hear some more. From him we hope to get
Calored with William walkin bush if he's not napping after
A Little west coast swing this weekend With the clemson.
Baseball team right, quick break we'll come back with More
from tigertown right. After this stay with us here On
the Show that shakes The South land Final seven devour
number One. On monday clemson Sports Taw davos swingy was

(35:14):
mean with the Media after clemson's spring Game, on saturday
and he was talking about the environment and the fact
that the fans were so important to creating an environment
that simulated what some of these young guys are gonna
get to play in or have to play in in.
The fall here's some more on that front where he
specifically mentions a couple of the young guys that had

(35:36):
some opportunities in front of a huge Crowd In. Death
valley so to be able to.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Put a lot of those guys out there in, that
situation it's it's just.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
YOU can't, i mean, for like you saw a lot
of young players, out there, you Know Big braden jacobs
out there at, left tackle, you Know, seeing gid these
young guys, out there, you know, flying around seeing, You
know tristan, a receiver, new guy he's never played at
this level and all of, a sudden he's, you Know
he's it's the confidence that can come, From, that uh

(36:08):
they can. Really grow so it's just IT'S just i
just don't take it for GRANTED because i know it's
not that. Way EVERYWHERE so i really appreciate our fans
for giving us a. GREAT environment i hope everybody. Had
fun and, then also, you know, last night if, all involved.
Was amazing we were right about one point four to,
five million and it was just an. Amazing night so

(36:28):
many generous people that that, really uh just get on
board with all in team foundation to to serve, you
know so many people in our community in, the state
and uh so that was special last night to be
a part of that. As well so it's just been
a great weekend and and h, just thankful thankful for
a really.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Good spring i'm proud of how the. Guys worked.

Speaker 6 (36:50):
They've been very business like all spring really just kind
of just about the work really and that's been that's.
Been good so a lot of guys took some some
good steps forward that we needed to see. As coaches
and and then guys that we, feel like, you know
need to be guys, for us they they they showed
what they needed to show, the spring and then some

(37:10):
young guys kind of got exposed and they know what
they need to do to kind of take another step.
This summer so good spring from all. Those standpoints but
we're not far from a. Complete team. You know we
had a bunch of guys out in the spring with
postseason mostly postseason surgery. Type stuff we had a couple
get hurt in the spring that ended up having to miss.
Some time but, you know everything goes well like, we project,

(37:34):
you know every when we when we get up back
on that Field, late july there we should be we
should have all hands on deck and when we get
all when we get it all, put, together hey well
we'll be a team that has.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
A chance and it's all you can. Ask FOR so
i just got to go do the work and put
our head downs and be.

Speaker 6 (37:51):
About it but really but proud of appreciate, this team
a lot of fun about our staff did an awesome
job of, you know. Coming together that's always a, a reset,
you know this time. Of year, and uh it's been
spend spend great.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Energy Offspring So dabo sweety there talked about. The energy
he was Asked About Tristan smith climpson. Wide, receiver uh
and his nerves potentially before the. Ball game, oh man
just confidence.

Speaker 6 (38:16):
Will grow, and again, you know if we don't have
the opportunity to, create that he's going into that game
with nothing other than just, you know, you know he's
just he's never played in front of probably a crowd,
like that, you know so spending his first couple of
years in a ju junior college and then and then Obviously.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
At SIMO so i mean that's a. Big deal it's a.

Speaker 6 (38:40):
Big deal and for him to go out there and
make something and we we really really wanted we kind
of forced some things that way because we really Wanted
to we need him like we. Need him i've said
this a couple. Of times You Saw cole turner im
about to Play cold turner Made And. Cole cole that's
the first time he's practiced in about. Two weeks he
had a little little just in he's coming back from

(39:01):
so we had him on a pitch. Count today so
to see him go out there and make a, big
play To see tristan go out there and have the
day that, He Had todler brown has had an.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Awesome spring.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
YOU know I think i think we kind of all
know we've seen enough of one and twelve and zero to, know,
that hey, them guys they're gonna be ready for. The
show but we've got we've got six guys and that
core GROUP that i think can.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
All start they can, all play, you know at a
really high level.

Speaker 6 (39:29):
For us and, you Know but tristan was the guy
that really needed to kind of, you know we had
to kind of get. Him going he's the new guy
and it's been a lot of pressure. On him but
so for him to go out and do what he,
did today that that will really boost. His Confidence and
i'm just proud. Of him he puts his. Head down
he's just a. Humble kid that's, that again done. Say
much he just works and as you see when you

(39:51):
get up, on him he is long and JUST what i,
you know saw. ON tape i, was like you know what.
This is this is, the guy this is what, we need.
You know and he's just come in and. Bought in
and that whole little group has has really kind of
clicked well together and they're gonna need each other and
we're gonna need all those guys and uh so, you

(40:11):
know then you then you you got some other guys that.
You Know parker fulgium has had a good spring, For
Us chase bird has had a good spring. For us
marquez has not really been able to do much. To
Spring uh so we really hadn't even gotten the first base,
with him but we know he's a.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
Great athlete we'll Get ju ju in here this summer.
As well so, it's uh it's it's gonna be a.
Fun group we. Stay healthy they don't have a chance
to be be a.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Good Group So dabo sweeny there talking About These clemson
tiger wide outs as they Finish up clemson's spring practices
with the spring Game, on saturday fifteen practices in, the
book turning their attention towards the L S u tigers

(40:58):
in that season Opener on august. Thirty first so we
are basically focused now. ON baseball, i mean that's that's
kind of where the tenor of the conversations. WILL be, i,
mean look you don't go away from you don't go
away from. Football EVER but i think, more importantly just

(41:20):
kind of when you think through like this time of,
the year you're not going to be hearing much on the. Football.
FRONT now i oppose the Question, on twitter would you
rather your basketball season in The way clemses did IN
the ncaa tournament or The way? Duke did seventy six
percent of the people say they'd rather in The way.

(41:41):
DUKE did i, don't, know man that's a that is,
a painful. Heartbreaking Loss smack, Check says i'd rather lose
the way, we lost but in the. Final four and
then The new jersey, sports DOC who i don't want
to be my doctor because apparently he doesn't Understand what,
i'm asking. He Says any clipson fan who says they'd

(42:02):
rather lose in the first round to It. McNee state
then the, final fource you would probably STOP watching ncaa
basketball and go watch pickleball. Or curly i'm talking about.
The heartbreak i'm talking about The heartbreak i'd rather lose
The way clipson did in the. First round can you
imagine The heartbreak duke fans. HAVEF today i. Don't know that's.

(42:22):
My feelings we'll See what qualt thinks around. The bend stay.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
With us.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
It's Time For Clipson sports Talk With. Luwton schwan.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
It is our.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Number two that's drive time right here on the show
that shakes The, South Land Clemson, Sports talk Lord and
swine hanging out with you On.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
A.

Speaker 2 (43:20):
Monday Afternoon william qualkinbush said to join the program in
just a few minutes eight oh three four five h
zero zero. Eighty six, of course the text line in the,
phone line and you can be a part of the
program anytime on Our Website clemsonsports salt. Dot com and
don't forget to support one of our loyal, SPONSORS Here

(43:41):
mets plumbing seven three, two drip. Drip drip you know
the jingle seven three to, two Drip That's mets plumbing
and we appreciate them being a part of the program
along with all of our other fantastic sponsors here On
the Show that shakes The. South land so we talked
a Lot about clemson's. Spring game would love to get

(44:03):
your thoughts on the format kind of harken back to
the Days Of tommy bowden as the head coach with
the offense. VERSUS defense i can remember even back in,
the day the guys would run out there with like
A little scully. Helmet on, you know they throw the
little beanie on top if they were the punt. Return

(44:24):
guy and, YOU know i think this was kind of
eerily similar to that and not nearly as EXCITING as
i brought up in our. Number one but we'll Talk
With William qualkin bush to see what he thought. About
it obviously he was all the way across the Country
in California or clemson's baseball series against The, cow bears

(44:48):
but we'll get his take on just the format being
a little. Bit DIFFERENT but i think at this point
it's kind of the nature of what you're, looking at
especially given the Fact that clemson and OTHER programs i

(45:09):
think have learned that there's not much value in potentially
injuring your own players over and. Over again and so,
YOU know i think WE'RE gonna i think we're shifting away.
From IT and i think that's certainly perfectly fine with

(45:32):
the way. It goes and, you know one of the
guys that was not out there this Weekend was Ta.
Boy fagan To boy fagan had been a part of
the program for. A year he's a red shirt freshman
at cornerback and he's going to enter the transfer. Of portal,
he told he told On three and he doesn't have

(45:56):
a ton of stats during his Time.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
At.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Clemson uh he was a kid THOUGH that i really
thought had a chance down the road to have a
bit of an Impact. For clemson but we're no longer
in a slow. COOKER society, i mean it's a microwave
mentality in college sports. These days guys want to get on,

(46:21):
the field they want to earn, their money and they're
not going to sit and be. A backup THAT'S just
i think it's something we've all had to. Really understand
he played eleven defensive snaps over two games while redshirting a.
Year ago the six foot one hundred and eighty pound
Corner From Carrollwood day school Down, In, tampa florida again

(46:45):
entering the. Transfer portal you can read more about it
over on, Our website Clemson sports talk. Dot COM but,
i mean that's just kind, of where, that's where this
where this, thing is and and it's another REASON that
i don't get all up in arms about how things

(47:07):
are going with the spring game or who plays or
or how. THEY play i don't know if you, guys
remember but a couple of, Years ago travis etn and
it and it Looked Like, Tavian feaster we're gonna be,

(47:32):
YOU know tnt it was gonna be back for, another
Year and feaster had had a good, spring game and
then before you, know it he was no longer on
the team and he ends up playing his final Season At.
South carolina, and so, you know it's it's hard when

(47:55):
there's all these opportunities for players to, jump in for
all these guys to be, able to, you know portal their.
Way out that spring window officially Opens on april, The
sixteenth but don't you, feel like as a consumer of
the sport that the portal just closed from that defense

(48:17):
that THAT that i almost said, defensive Window that. December
window fagan was a four star recruit and again will
take his talent to. Another program davosweeney was asked about

(48:38):
it following the Scrimmage, on Saturday and, davosweeney, said quote.
Who knows those are just the things you have to.
Respond to if everyone stays the, same today we feel
good about. Our roster we have a lot of work,
to do but we are ready to go to battle
with the guys we got and let's. Go compete we

(49:00):
like we like. Our guys? Who Knows and fagan becomes
The first clemson player to Enter the portal, this spring
although again it does not open Officially until april. The
sixteenth but what does. THAT matter, i mean as long
as guys, Can, Announce hey i'm going to go into,
the portal and that's. Essentially, Portaling right you're not gonna

(49:25):
be at. Practice anymore you're not gonna be doing anything
like IT'S it's i don't really know how to rope.
IT in i don't know how to other than, AND
again i know it's a tired conversation, to HAVE but
i think the one thing that would really fix it
is to bring back the you have to sit out,

(49:46):
one YEAR and i don't think that that's such a,
terrible concept especially given what we're dealing with with the
number of players nationally that jump into, the portal and
the sad part of. THE portal i don't even know

(50:07):
what the best comparison would be. IN life i truly.

Speaker 3 (50:11):
Do not.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Some of you might have some, good ideas and you could,
text ME maybe i can figure something. Out online but
the sad part is we never talk about the kids
that don't end. Up anywhere.

Speaker 3 (50:30):
We.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
Don't That now i'm about to go real tragic on this.
Comparison here we probably have no idea. What, happens Okay
so i'm just gonna. SAY it i don't actually know.
What happens but we don't talk about the animals at
the shelters that don't. Get placed it just is not

(50:52):
something that you think about all. THAT much, i mean
there are certainly activists and people, out there but most,
OF you i don't think sit around every day thinking
about the shelter pets that don't get placed and what happens.

Speaker 3 (51:10):
TO them.

Speaker 2 (51:12):
I don't know what happens. To them i've got, some
ideas and they're terrible that, you know animals can't, get
placed but it's like guys in. THE portal i hate
it that they can't find a place. To land but

(51:34):
you put yourself in. That situation it's like an employee
quitting their job and then struggling to get hired, somewhere, else, like,
OH man i do so good at, this job turned
in my resignation letter looking for a, better opportunity not getting.

(51:57):
Picked up the leap of faith doesn't land where you thought,
It would.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
AND so.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
I think that's another, good example probably a. Better example,
quite frankly from. My standpoint the only people that maybe think,
about that, you know is the, former teammates the, former
coworkers unless the guy was, a, Jerk RIGHT but i
would imagine if you're sitting around and You're in clumpson's corner,

(52:35):
back room and you start looking around, and, talking man
whatever happened To? Du boid where'd he end? Up going
he didn't? Land anywhere you gotta be. Kidding me you
mean he had a, Scholarship here you mean he was
getting some, nil here and he's just sitting at Home.
In tampa and it might, seem, like oh that's so

(52:59):
far face that could not possibly could not. Possibly happen
look at the numbers of players that enter the portal
and think about how few final. Ending spot, it's, rough
man it is rough a, zero three four, to five
zero zero zero. Eighty six all? Right Again The national

(53:22):
championship in, Basketball tonight Florida and houston eight oh FIVE.
ON cbs i don't know if you, saw this But
in houston's Win, over duke Where the cougars had a
stunning and, Epic Comeback Hakeem, elijah wan program Legend, from
houston could not believe that he wasn't allowed to join

(53:43):
the team on the court. In celebration security would not
let him. Up THERE and i thought, to myself it
is hard, to believe and maybe we've just reached, that
point but it is hard To That, hakeem elijahwan who
played his Basketball, In houston texas IN the nba and

(54:11):
his college Ball, at houston right Was In san antonio
At the final four and could not get on. The
stage could you imagine If wake forest had won that
game and for the right to go to the national
Title And tim duncan was in the Crowd or Navy

(54:33):
And david robinson was in. The crowd does anybody here
think that those dudes wouldn't have been able to get
up on, the stage wouldn't have been able to get
up on. THE court i guess maybe even more than
anything to celebrate with. THE team i don't. Understand it
and there was a guy there trying to, Tell security,

(54:54):
hey man this is who the. Guy is And as,
i'm aware he never did. Make it never did.

Speaker 3 (55:01):
Make it.

Speaker 2 (55:03):
By, the way the other thing to shout out TO
the cbs graphics department nerd. A hurt, you know most
of the time when the graphics come out for these
games late and, they'll say, you know who to foul
at the end of a, ball game AND the ela
teachers Or the english teachers among us, will go don't

(55:27):
you mean whom? To foul and that would. Be correct
and indeed the graphics Department at florida, excuse me the
graphics DEPARTMENT, at cbs when showing a graphic about whom
to foul For The florida gators late in, the ballgame

(55:49):
actually put the whom. In there.

Speaker 3 (55:54):
So that was a.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
That was a pretty pretty epic moment over the WEEKEND
when i saw that on. SOCIAL media i missed it
actually during, the GAME but i did not miss it on,
social media which is one of. The, things honestly one
of THE reasons i love social media is just to
be able to keep up with all of the stuff

(56:17):
going on in the world and the things that you may.
Have missed So The national, Championship tonight Florida and houston
thirty five, and four both teams. ENTERING again i don't
really know who to pick in. THIS one i ask
a couple of. PEOPLE today i think it should be

(56:40):
a really good game if you buy into the thought
process of how TOUGH the sec has been this. Past
year if you buy, into THAT then i think it
would be safe to Say at florida is your. Best

(57:01):
BET and i Do think florida is playing better Basketball
than houston. Right NOW and i think you can really
look no further than the NUMBERS that i talked about
Earlier With, walter clayton and you know just how good
he has been with the ball in his hands throughout,
the tournament making the, big shots getting himself into position.

(57:26):
To score he is silky. Smooth MAN and I also
i Do like. FLORIDA size i don't know that they're
the most athletic group Compared, to houston but if you
believe that iron, sharpens iron and you believe that having
fourteen teams IN The ncaa tournament from one conference hypothetically

(57:51):
should make a team better than. The COMPETITION and I
still I picked nuke to one. At all i'm Shocked
that i'm not Talking about Duke. In florida these are
the TWO teams i had In The national championship in,
my POOL and I think duke would Have beaten, florida
tonight but Minus The, BLUE devils I think. I am

(58:14):
i'm gonna roll the dice With the gators that they
win their first basketball national championship since going back to
back in six. And seven they were the runners up
back in. Two thousand they've been to the final four
six times nineteen, ninety four, two thousand two thousand, and

(58:38):
six two thousand, and seven, twenty fourteen and now. Twenty
Fifteen but i'm Gonna take florida to, win TONIGHT and
i think they'll win. GOING away i Don't think houston's
got to come back. IN them i also think that
comeback may have taken something out Of the cougars. As
well with just a couple of days to turn it

(58:58):
around and to get back Out there houston has never
won the. National championship they were the national championship or
the tournament runners up in nineteen. Eighty three in nineteen,
eighty four, of course the eighty three team LOSING To
nc state in that famous Moment With jim valvano and

(59:19):
that group led by Players Like charles shackelford and all,
those guys the miracle that that. Game, was, houston though
has been to the final four, more times if you can.
Believe This in florida they've been seven times nineteen, sixty seven,
sixty eight, eighty two, eighty three, eighty four twenty, twenty

(59:40):
one and two thousand and. Twenty five so it is
a very, decorated program but it is a program that
has yet to reach, the paramount yet to be at.
The Top And, kelvin sampson, WHO again i played the,
audio four you're now. NUMBER one i don't know if

(01:00:02):
you know a lot. OF you, i know certainly it's a.
Little Changeover But kelvin sampson, WAS told i don't have
the audio anymore on. MY screen i could probably. Grab
It but sampson was asked about the comeback and he was,
told that, you know it was the largest Comeback in final.
Four history and the funniest thing about it was as

(01:00:24):
he was hearing, That news i'm looking for it. Right
now as he was hearing. That news here it is
as he was hearing, that news, you know he's calculating
the numbers game on what how far down they would
have needed needed to be to lose. That game here's.
The Take As kelvin sampson gets told that statistic it's
biggest comeback?

Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
In colinforce was it our? Biggest? DEATH fourteen i? Thank
you un.

Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Sums so again he's he's told that their biggest dev it,
was fourteen and he kind of mumbles under, his breath
good thing it, wasn't seventeen because, of course if that were,
The case houston would, have lost so pretty impressive the
way they Finished. Against duke will they have their legs

(01:01:15):
tonight Against. THE gators i personally Would pick florida. To
win that's. MY opinion i think that, you know whether
or not you buy into the sec being as sharp
and strong as everybody said it was, all year may
be insignificant in, this ballgame just based off of the
fact that even if you don't think from top, to
bottom it was a. Tougher league florida's probably the much

(01:01:39):
more well prepared team for. This ballgame if there is
one thing THOUGH that i would say that would maybe
Play in houston's favor outside of the geography of it
all and Being In, san antonio they may play kind
of would like nothing, to lose because when you got
like a ninety percent chance that you weren't gonna be,

(01:02:01):
there anyway like all of, a sudden you've got you've,
been resurrected you've got, new life and to still be
playing basketball For for houston probably feels like, some incredible some.
Incredible fortune so we'll see how that goes tonight again
as a tip off this EVENING on cbs at eight.
Point fifty, all right, quick break we'll come back with

(01:02:22):
more of the Show that Shakes The south plane right.
After this rolling along On, A Monday clemson's sports Salalaw
to swad hanging out, with You A Fox sports radio
fortune Hundred the budldins around the world On the. iHeartRadio
app so we're Gonna push qualk over to. Tomorrow's program
not gonna be able to get connected with, him today
busy day. For him we're turning off Of That west,

(01:02:44):
coast swing so we'll find out how things went for
him when we talked to him tomorrow here On a
tuesday afternoon instead of His, usual MONDAY but i kind
of thought that might be. A, POSSIBILITY heck i was
kind of thinking he might even be, back today, quite
frankly given the stretch that he, just had having to

(01:03:06):
go Out to california and back With This clemson tiger.
Baseball team and again they're Off, until WEDNESDAY so i
would assume that anytime you Make that west, coast trip
you're only gonna play one midweek game the following week,
As well And so qualk will be on the program.
Tomorrow again the big news Out of, CLEMSON today, i

(01:03:30):
think more than anything is the news Of To boy
fagan jumping into the. TRANSFER portal i know The portal
gibbeth and The Portal, Taketh away and certainly we talked
about nowur Number One, Tristan smith clemson's transfer wide receiver

(01:03:53):
From southeast missouri who is Originally, From. LAGRANGE georgia i
wrote a story about him over on. The website he's
a quiet kid and he went out and had a
very loud Performance on saturday with five catches for one
hundred and thirty seven yards in. A touchdown and so

(01:04:16):
when you look at that wide receiver room, right NOW
and i don't know what this team's going to look, like,
offensively OKAY but i want you to place yourself in
this mindset. Real quick remember how you felt when the

(01:04:36):
news came out that you Were Hiring garrett riley to
be the new. Offensive coordinator do you remember how? You
felt do you REMEMBER the tcu offenses and what you saw?
From them, and again none of this means it is
going to translate The This clemson tiger football team.

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
This YEAR.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
But i think when you start to analyze the, wide
receivers when you start to think about what you Know About,
antonio williams.

Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
What you KNOW.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
About tj Moore and bryant westco what you Know About,
tyler brown and what you are possibly Getting From. Tristan
SMITH and I know daboswheney loves to Talk About, Cole

(01:05:38):
turner and even when he Talked about turner after the,
spring game he mentioned the Fact that turner had gotten.
Banged up and, you're, like yep, Breaking news like it's
he's always. Banged up but if you think about those
GUYS that i, just mentioned and you know They've been

(01:05:59):
there're been times in my career doing THIS where, i,
Thought man clemson should go five Wide and i'm not
talking about five wh with a. Tight end i'm talking
about five why with five actual wide receivers. Out there
AND then i take it back to the running back
room Now Having adam randall at, running BACK and i

(01:06:19):
start thinking, about legit legit plays where you could have
on The field BRIAN. Westco, Tj Moore, antonio Williams And
tristan Smith Or tyler brown in, any shape form or
fashion that you Want with randal is the, running back

(01:06:44):
and you start talking about being able to exploit defenses
with your wideouts and the talent that you have on
the field that can catch the football, because, notoriously notoriously

(01:07:04):
running backs don't typically catch the ball all that well
out of. The backfield they catch some, you know they'll
catch some stuff out into, the flats they'll catch a,
wheel route. You know but to think about a guy
running like a post or something out of, that position

(01:07:25):
it just you don't even draw. It up you don't
even draw. It up i'm not so sure that there
won't Be With adam randall as a running, back option
that there won't be some really wacky stuff that's. Being
done so, Like AGAIN i'm i am far from an,

(01:07:46):
offensive coordinator but imagine you've got two wide outs on
the left side of. The field now imagine You've Got
adam randall at, running back and let's say you're gonna
hit a little play action Pass To adam randall so
that he gets up into the scrimmage maybe even you
know you're gonna go with zero pass, protection here and

(01:08:06):
you just have him get through the line and then
break out to. The left but the two guys running
routes that are on the left side of the field
are running back across to, the right pull in, the
safeties and the cornerback's over and now you create like
a one on One With adam randall and a linebacker
with a ton of space. Around them, you should you

(01:08:28):
should be foaming at the mouth for. That opportunity and
you think about like the number of players at running
back that could, do it but just don't quite have
the skill set to catch. The ball so coaches choose
not to do it because it's too too risky of. A,

(01:08:50):
venture perhaps but if you've got a legit, running back
they shoot me a legit wide out playing. Running Back
And adam brandle never really shined THE way i think
we all thought he might at. Wide receiver but this

(01:09:15):
might be one of those best of both. WORLD scenarios,
i mean this Might Be adam randle having his cake
and getting to eat.

Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
It too.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
I'm looking forward to seeing what they could do, with
him because with all these weapons and the guys they
have at, wide receiver it really does give you a
vantage point of looking back at some OF those tcu
games as some of the plays they ran and how
they got guys open and the, running backs and, you,
go man if they can do That With, adam randall.

(01:09:52):
Watch out and To See tristan smith have the game
he Did on saturday was a big step in the
right direction For. The tigers, quick break we'll HEAR from
smi around, the band stay, with us the show that
shakes The, South Land, Clemson sports Salo and swan hanging out.
WITH you a couple of notes we'll get to in
a minute About boy fagan Leaving the clemson football team

(01:10:13):
to hit the. Transfer portal But, first CLEMSON as, i
said the portal giveth and it. Taketh Away tristan smith
incoming wide Receiver From southeast missouri by Way, Of lagrange
georgia was a bright Spot for clemson during their. SPRING

(01:10:34):
game i mean a tremendous. Bright spot and they they,
you Know when davilos when he, saw him as he,
said earlier felt like that was. The guy that was
the guy they wanted to. Bring in they're gonna use,
the portal but they're not gonna, you know it's not
gonna be overrun by. The portal five catches one hundred
and thirty Seven Yards. On Saturday Here's tristan smith talking
about what it was like being out there and his

(01:10:56):
big catch in the. Second half and remember this a
kid who's never really played and and again it's not
that was a packed House, at clemson but a great
chance for him to kind of adjust to having a
bunch of fans in. The Stands Here's tristan smith talking
about his first Taste Of. Death valley.

Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
It was like being out there today.

Speaker 5 (01:11:17):
And talked about that big catching in the second half
there it. Felt amazing i'm not they. Felt amazing, you
know we got a great. Fan base, you know a
lot of fans showed UP when i saw, My mom
my mom came to, the game, you know and not really,
you know made IT where i have to go, out
there you know and just, be myself, you know and
made plays and, you know just it really just make
players for, the team, you know do, my job, you

(01:11:39):
know have some minimum, m ads, you know just get
the plays down and the big player is gonna. Come
on so really just, staying focused, you know on the
SIDELINE because.

Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
I ain't i.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
WAS nervous.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
I was it was a lot of, people THERE so
i was.

Speaker 5 (01:11:49):
Really nervous but at the end of, the day, you
know we got some some great playmakers on both sides of,
the Ball and i'm feeling really good about what this
team is gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Be Doing So tristian smith saying he feels really good
about where they are with. This team he also was
asked about when he felt like his nerves maybe started
to settle down during the Game, on SATURDAY.

Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
When i made the.

Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
First catch, you know usually, you know when you made that,
first catch you, get tackled, you know you get the.
Butterflies OUT but i was, really nervous, you know running
out of hill for the, first time and it was,
you know it was it was a spring GAME and i.

Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Ran down the hill And then.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
I'm nervous so really just after that, first, CATCH seriously
i gotta go down to play and make.

Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
Plays Together That's tristan smith talked about his Opportunity. On
saturday he was also asked about the recruitment process and
what it was like to Transfer, to clemson, and.

Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
Sir really just, YOU know i wanted to enter the.

Speaker 5 (01:12:42):
Transfer portal, YOU know i wanted to play the highest
levels of the GAME and i FEEL like i can.
Do that so just enter.

Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
The photo, you know The.

Speaker 5 (01:12:48):
Coach grisham himio a, long story, short game want to
visit committity coach with, his office and it was NO
doubt i wanted to, come here and this IS why
i wanted To BE so i made the, bus decision,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
For me so it was, really good.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Don't you smith was also asked about the talent in
that wide. Out room h and was you know kind
of mentioned in passing About how clemson was at one
point kind of knowing this wide receiver you and to
get his thoughts on the wide outs that are in
that room working out with him and on the field grinding.

Speaker 5 (01:13:18):
With, him, yes sir, you know we got this, great talent,
you know young guys and the BRON. Westco, Tj Moore, Antonio,
williams chase we got, you know all. These guys so
we we, like to, you know call ourselves three waves
of terror in a. Receiver run, you know when the
first will, come out the second go, go in it's the.
Same thing the third group.

Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Going in it's the. Same thing so only just, you
know there's no.

Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Drop off.

Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
Everybody's amazing, You know we've got a great line that's
gonna block for a. Great quarterback we got a great.
Running back it's gonna.

Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
Block for, a quarterbacks. You know and we got some
great clat bakers on. The edge so really just all
that's gonna come together and, you know bringing.

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
National championship yere final couple of Things From. Tristan smith
he was also asked about the experience that he gained
from playing in The More oriel stadium as that when
you mentioned he thought it was a. Big deal What
did smith think about. That opportunity.

Speaker 5 (01:14:07):
It's, really awesome, you know coach what, you said, you
know treat every practice like IT'S the. Lsu game treat
every scrimmage like it's the end. Of game SO really
i feel like today wasn't my, first time, You Know Bannon.
Silver stadium we had a scrimmage and there we.

Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
Have two, scrimmages again so we just felt.

Speaker 5 (01:14:22):
The same, you know all it is is just adding
fans and that's really. The difference but, you KNOW when
i get to, tuning in, tuning out, you know the
fans and just focusing on, you know making, a play,
you know making, that blog, you know it really comes.

Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Easy marking so there. You go someone Trust is smith's
time with. The media we didn't get all of it
for you, here today but Trust the smith wide Receiver
for clemson after having a big Performance In death Valley
on saturday a zero three four five oh zero zero
eighty six text line. Phone line by, the way yesterday

(01:14:57):
for those of you joining us here and now number
two yesterday was the women's basketball. National championship and with
the men's championship coming, up tonight and the fact that
these final fours, are staggered, you know they play the
semi finals of the women's Game, on friday the semi

(01:15:17):
final the men's Game, on saturday the final of the
women's Game on sunday in the final of the men's Game.
On monday there have been some people out there that
have brought this up shifting gears a little bit. From
football as we head towards the, final segment what if
you played them both in the. Same town what if

(01:15:38):
you had the men and women's tournament in the same
town for the championship.

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Or the?

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
Final four that would be, pretty cool, QUITE frankly, I
mean i think especially for, the town especially for the,
women's game to bump up the numbers of people in attendance.
Even further not that they need a whole lot, of

(01:16:12):
help it's, quite popular but could you imagine if that's
the way it lined up in the extra media attention
that the women's game. Would, GET like i think that's a.
Brilliant concept maybe some people are. Against it i'm not
Again Watching south carolina yesterday just get Blistered. By yukon,
IT was, I mean yukon Went to columbia and dominated

(01:16:34):
The game cocks and, then, said oh you, Know what
we'll meet You in tampa and we'll do. It again
there's a meme going around or a Gift Of don
staley on, the bench stay like drops a. Big bomb
you can figure out what word, it is and then
she like smacks. Herself in they had like. Five times
and the ONLY thing i could think watching that was

(01:16:55):
she's watching those girls play and she's, got like literally
the the most talented team are the second most, talented
team and there's a thirty point gap between her And this.
Yukon team and she was hitting herself at the HEAD
and i, kept thinking she's PROBABLY thinking i could play
better than my girls are playing, right Now Because dawn

(01:17:16):
staley was the truth in women's basketball when she was
in College. At virginia but maybe, one day like, spring
games maybe one day we'll have the men and the
Women's basketball final four is playing at the. Same venue
that would. Be awesome i'd. Love that, all right Quick
breat we'll put the ball on the show right.

Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
After this what have you done for? Me lately it's a.
Fair question just don't lose sight of the. Bigger picture don't.
Forget history lucky for Us, at clemson the answer to
the questions what have you done for? Me lately and

(01:17:56):
what have? You done always are.

Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
The same.

Speaker 4 (01:18:04):
We win.

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
Final seven on the, one day don't forget about our
sponsor along the hall on the quarter of Campus On
college avenue Of. Downtown Clemson remember, clemson students faculty in
all military get ten percent off of shopping in Store At.
Alumni hall upgrade your tail. Gate gear shop for Officially licensed.
Clempson merchandise get ready for. Football season you got a

(01:19:11):
little taste this weekend at the. Spring game go check
them out. RIGHT downtown a, stone's throw a stone's throw From.
Historic Riggsfield It's, alumni hall all, right tonight eight, OH
five i wish, eighth five eight POINT fifty cbs.

Speaker 3 (01:19:35):
One.

Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
Shining moment Florida, in houston.

Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
All.

Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
The marbles florida again favored by a point and A,
half houston according to ESPN's, matchup predictor. The favorite i'm
going With the. GATORS again, I first i think they
have the best player on, the Court And walter clayton
junior at least he's played the best.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
RIGHT now.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
I think florida's length is going To disrupt houston at.

Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
The RIM.

Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
And I think houston is playing with some tired legs
after having to battle back the way they Did. AGAINST
duke i don't think the one. Day turnaround if this
game was a week, you know if it had been
a week since, that game, then maybe but just one,
Day turnaround i'm not. BUYING it i think the fans

(01:20:33):
Will favor houston in a big way There In. San
Antonio but i'm gonna go With the gators tonight to
win the. National Title and i'm happy that IT'S. On
cbs remember, last year in the even, NUMBERED years tbs
Broadcast The final four And The. NATIONAL championship i think.

(01:20:54):
THAT'S terrible, I mean i do think those games need
to BE. On cbs they need to be on kind
of like the women's game yesterday WAS. ON abc i
know people wanted to be a little bit later in
the DAY. On, abc sure WHY? Not abc give up
your eight o'clock program and whatever you've.

Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
GOT on.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
I don't know If It's american Idol or dancing With,
the STARS but i could see moving the women's game
back to a better start TIME. On abc, but historically
do any of you remember what channels that broadcast Did The.
NATIONAL championship i can tell you from nineteen sixty three to,

(01:21:34):
sixty eight it was something Called The Sports NETWORKING. Corporated
sni in, sixty nine it became, NBC's DEAL and nbc
held the exclusive rights To The final four until nineteen.
Eighty one and it's a Shame that i'm not old
enough to remember THAT because i don't have anything to compare,

(01:21:56):
It TO like i was born in, seventy SEVEN so
i don't, remember those even Though like Magic and bird
that would have BEEN, on nbc and certainly the production
values would have been a lot different in. That TIME
but i do wonder if we compared the nineteen EIGHTY

(01:22:16):
one nbc broadcast Of the Final Four national championships versus
the EIGHTY, two cbs how similar were they AND did
nbc do a good job?

Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
With it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
And it's BEEN with cbs up until, twenty fifteen and
then in twenty eleven through twenty, thirty two there was
a collaborative agreement that we told you about a year
Ago With warner Brothers and discovery which Is Formerly turner
broadcasting allowing the. Shared coverage and that's when things SHIFTED,

(01:22:51):
TO cbs TBST and T AND true tv to get
all four games on at, one TIME because i tell
you when the tournament kicks off right like, before that
it was nineteen point one nineteen, point two nineteen, point
three that all had different games. On them they were
all ON the, cbs channel and they just covered up

(01:23:12):
whatever other coverage they had and you had to flip.

Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
Through it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
But prior, to THAT when i was a kid, WATCHING it,
i mean you just got the. One game they would
tell you what the other three games were going to
be that were all, on elsewhere but you just got your.
One GAME but i would be interested if you're old
enough and you remember, NBC's coverage NBC's coverage Of The men's, Final,
four like what do you recall? About it who were,

(01:23:40):
the announcers who are the anchors? In studio i'm assuming,
that stuff, you, know pregame. Post game i'm assuming that
stuff existed back. The end that wasn't a new fangled
idea of the. NINETEEN nineties i just have, no IDEA
and i did not have time to dig in too
much to find out who it was or if it

(01:24:03):
was the Same announce did the same announcers come OVER
to cbs when that move? Was made, you know we
Probably Know. MARK packer i can almost Guarantee You mark
packer because, of course, His Dad, billy packer was the
longtime ANNOUNCER. WITH cbs i Wonder if billy did the
GAMES on NBC when I GET when i get done

(01:24:26):
with the show today in just a, FEW minutes i
make it On because i'm running out. OF time i
make it online and SEE if i can find like
The Old Michigan State indiana state Game between Bird, and
magic and see who was on the broadcast that i'd love.
To know all, Right again i'm Taking, The gators. Chomp
chomp we'll talk about it tomorrow and see if they pull.
It off, until then It's always i'll take care now And.
