world on the iHeart Radio application. Download it today, It's free.
The website, put the dot com on it, dog on it.
That's Clemson Sports Talk dot Com AO three four five
O zero zero eighty six. And of course showed the
Shakespare south Land, brought you in part by our good
friends over at METS Plumbing seven three two drip Drip,
(01:32):
drip drip, you know the jingle seven three to two drip.
That's METS Plumbing, mets Plumbing dot com. That's the website
as well. All right, Clemson yesterday, as we expected, picked
up another commitment, this one in the twenty twenty six
recruiting class. Four star offensive lineman Leo Delaney into the
(01:57):
mix with the Clemson Tigers now sixteen come in the
twenty twenty six recruiting class, and in a large part,
as we wrote in the article on Clemson sports talk
dot com yesterday, thanks in part to Matt Luke, who
we talked about his son Harrison getting an offer. Mentioned
(02:19):
the significance in my mind about you know what what
that offer in satisfying Matt Luke's desire to kind of
be around his kids could mean for Clemson. I don't
think there's anybody that would say, yah, yeah, you know
what's funny, We'll be all right without Matt Matt Luke.
(02:45):
I think Clemson fans have quickly embraced it. It was
a spectacular hire and it's working out. So if his
son gets an offer in an era where one hundred
and five guys are going to get scholarships at this point,
crimea river. But Delaney commits to Clemson and the Tigers
are building things the right way from the inside out,
(03:07):
with that offensive line kind of being the catalyst and
a big part of what this twenty twenty six recruiting
class looks like nationally, And depending on where you like
to turn, I like on three myself, but depending on
where you like to turn. If you look at the
on three team rankings, Clemson currently with sixteen commits, has
(03:32):
the seventh best recruiting class in the country, behind currently
Texas A and M at six, Georgia at five, Notre
Dame at four, Ohio State at three. LSU checking in
with an impressive, impressive recruiting class just nine commits right now,
(03:55):
but the second rated class according to score of anybody
out there. And again, when you start accepting, you know,
three star prospects or four star prospects or whatever, it
kind of can affect your score depending you know, there's
only a handful of five stars out there, but LSU
does have two of them. But LSU, with just nine commits,
(04:17):
two of which are five star, have the second rated
recruiting class according to all three. And the top class
in the country is Southern col And I don't know
that it will hold, but they've got one five star,
sixteen four stars committed, and ten three stars for a
twenty seven team class right now for Southern cal. And again,
(04:44):
the closest team to Southern Cal in numbers of commits
that I see, like on the top of the charts
or atter near the top of the charts is Penn
State with eighteen, Clemson again with sixteen. You've also got
Notre Dame currently with six team but Leo Delaney. If
you look at Clemson's twenty twenty six recruiting class, he
(05:08):
carries a ninety two point three to zero rating, which
is the third best rating of any Clemson Tiger current commit,
and it is the highest rated or he is the
highest rated offensive lineman in the class that Clemson currently
has committed out of Providence Day School. And when you
(05:29):
look across the board at his national ratings, he's the
one hundred and thirty fifth national player in the country.
He is the fifth best player according to ON three
at his position. You check that out across the board.
Two four seven has him as the fifth best offensive lineman.
(05:50):
ESPN's got him as the eleventh best. Rivals doesn't like
him quite as much. Rivals has got him. I think
at like forty sixth in terms of his position, but
that number is probably gonna fluctuate. You know how these
recruiting numbers change. Not to mention Rivals and ON three
coming together a big discrepancy in how both of those
(06:12):
outfits see them. I think forty six at rivals, as
I said, and then the composite rating, I guess is
what I was looking at. The composite rating has in
fifth ahead of Chancellor Barclay, who's just behind him. The
only players rated ahead of Leo Delaney in Clemson's twenty
twenty six recruiting class currently Kentavion Anderson, the safety out
(06:35):
of Dorman High School, and Name Burrows, wide receiver out
of the Bowls School down in Jacksonville, Florida, who checks
in with a ninety four point five to one rating
just on the cusp of being a five star in
on threes ratings. If you're interested in no or in
their in their industry what's the word I just said
(07:01):
it five seconds ago. The ON three industry rating, I
think is what they call it, or their football industry rating.
To get to a five star, you have to be
at a ninety five. So you're looking at Burrows being
just off of that five star billing. And in Clemson
(07:22):
and Texas, A and M I think right now in
the top ten are the only schools that do not
have a currently rated five star prospect committed now. Delaney
also joins his fellow fellow Providence Day School star Gordon
Sellars at Clemson, and as I noted yesterday, the future
(07:46):
potentially bright for Clemson at Providence Day School, as they
should certainly have a great relationship with Griff Galloway, who
was an upcoming defensive lineman whose father, Lonnie, is a
part of Clemson's staff as a defensive analyst. And assuming
that Galloway, the elder Galloway, sticks around Clemson, you know,
(08:08):
I would think the Tigers would have a pretty good
shot at bringing Griffin as well as he comes across
the state from Charlotte if his dad is still in Tigertown.
But Gordon Sellers, the wide receiver out of Providence Day School,
ranks as a ninety point sixty seven recruit, so Provadence
Day School putting out some stars, including last year's David Sanders,
(08:33):
who committed to Tennessee. And I thought it was interesting
that I can't remember if I brought this up yesterday
or not, but Leo Delaney had been down to four
schools Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee, and Clemson and eliminated Tennessee
when the graphic came out during I guess it was
(09:00):
that graphic might have come out Tuesday, maybe Monday, that
he was going to be committing on Wednesday. Either way,
the graphic comes out and he eliminated Tennessee. I found
that interesting with a you know, a colleague of friend,
another guy that blocked on the offensive line with him
at Provadence Day School being eliminated before the final decision
(09:25):
was even made. Leo Delaney did get a little bit
emotional with his parents in the room as he talked
about his commitment and making the move to Clemson. He
talked about all the things that his mom did for him.
I do have to say the Ultimate College Football Show
for two four seven is where this audio comes from.
And I think a lot of people felt like they
(09:48):
got hoodwinked into watching twenty minutes of the show or
twenty five minutes of the show before they got to
Delaney's commitment. I don't know if we all just missed
in the release two four seven that it was going
to be in this show or in the part of
the show. But a lot of people in the chat
I was watching it, They're saying, come on, can we
(10:10):
just get the commitment already? Can we just get to
the commitment. Well, here's when Delaney joined the show the
four star offensive lineman out of propert This Day School
up in Charlotte. This is when he joined the program
and here's what he had to say about his decision.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Well, first off, I really just want to thank y'all
for having me on the show today. I really appreciate
you know, y'all taking the time and and this is
one of the biggest decisions of my life. And the
journey has been filled with hard work, long hours, and
a lot of people that believed in me, even on
the days when it was hard for me to believe
in myself. You know, to my parents, thank y'all for everything,
(10:46):
early morning practices, late nights, every ride, waiting for me
after practices. I think I'm getting my mom to tear
out back there. You know my mom, she all the
cooking she do for me, keeping me fueled. I wouldn't
be who I am today without their consistent love and support.
They've been my rock through every high and low, and
I mean I really I love you more than I
(11:07):
can put into words. To my coaches. From my first
years at East Mecklenburg High School, Coach Alpha, he was
my first coach telling me I could play power for football.
Coach Jones, Coach Oates, and then once I got to
Providence Day coach Greer, coach Corio, Coach Hill coach Repka.
They put in countless hours of work into pushing me
to be the best version of myself, not just as
(11:30):
an athlete, but as a leader, a teammate, and especially man.
They've taught me what it has meant to be accountable,
work hard, and represent something that's really bigger than myself.
And I want to say a special thank you to
my strength coach, Coach Gates and my trainers for help
can me come back stronger every year and consistently get
better And it's taking always sticking by my side, And
(11:53):
to every coach that's recruited me and believed in me
for day one. I really I can't put into words
how grateful I am for every opportunity that I've been given.
You know, from my first offer to my most recent,
every opportunity it's been a huge blessing, and I'm so
grateful that I've had people that have believed in me
that much to become a great player. To my teammates,
(12:13):
friends and everyone who's supported me along the way, thank
you so much. Every Rep every snap, every moment. It's
all led to me being able to sit here and
make this decision. And with that being said, I'm extremely
proud and excited to announce that I'm one hundred percent
committed to Clemson University. Go Tigers.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
So that was Leo Delaney's commitment. Yesterday, during the Ultimate
College Football Show by two four seven, Delaney was asked
why Clemson.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Oh Man, there are so many reasons, you know, Like
I said, the culture of that program is second to none.
And you know, I talked about coach Newson and coach
Trout from Penn State and Michigan, but Coach Luke was
a driving factor for my commitment. You know, we'd sit
there and we talked football up in my head coach's
office when he'd come and come and recruit me, and
(13:06):
he's just so passionate about the sport and about coaching
me to become an amazing athlete and an amazing person.
And I couldn't have been more confident that he's someone
that can develop me into the athlete I want to be.
And you know, I have some family connections to Clemson.
My uncle Johnny, he went there when Clemson's Lake was
being built, So he's been he's been a diehard Clemson
(13:27):
fan since day one. And yeah, I mean it's just
it's a remarkable place. I really feel like it's kind
of a one of a kind spot.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
So they go. Another win on the recruiting trail for
the Clemson Tigers, specifically a win on the recruiting trail
or Matt Luke who now has Leo Delaney six two
hundred and seventy five pounds, Chancellor Barclay sixty four to
two hundred and eighty pounds, Grant why six three three
(13:58):
hundred pounds, Them Guthrie sixty seven two hundred and eighty
pounds committed, Brayden Wyams six' eight two hundred and seventy.
Pounds five offensive linemen committed in This clemson class out
of the sixteen players currently. Committed so that that hiring
(14:26):
again Of AND i was on the radio earlier today In,
atlanta AND i was asked About Tom allen And Tom
allen's hiring And dabbosweeney looking outside the. Program that didn't
just begin With Tom, allen that didn't just start with
the hiring Of Tom. Allen don't Forget sweeney venturing outside
(14:48):
of the program to bring In Matt luke and the
job That Matt luke has, done and not Solely Matt luke.
Either before they went and Got Tom allen, right they
also went outside the program and brought In Chris Rump
and this has been a change that's come about over
(15:14):
the past few. Years The Garrett riley hire is another
one where it's sort of that outside the program and
dabos when he gets a lot of criticism for people
feeling like all he Hires Tyler, grisham he HIRED. Cj,
spiller he Hired Nick, eason you, know he hired these
guys that have been a part Of clemson's program and
(15:37):
as a player or. Whatever, now my question coming into
this season probably focuses ON. Cj spiller and The clemson
running back room And spiller's legendary, STATUS i mean ring
of honor all all of the things that come along
(16:01):
with being at that magnitude At. Clemson AND i think
that if there's at this, POINT i Think Tyler grisham
last year would have been the. One BUT i think
you saw the wide receiving group and you look at
the wide receivers West co And, bryant and how good they,
were AND i think you still have to give him
(16:23):
credit obviously For Antonio williams And Tyler, brown and If
Tristan smith comes in has a great. Year, LOOK i
Think Tyler grisham coached his way off of the hot
seat a year. AGO i don't know ABOUT. Cj. SPILLER
i don't know ABOUT. Cj spiller and how much leeway
(16:53):
he's kind of got for a lack of success this.
SEASON i think IF. Cj spiller and The clemson running
backroom don't, Perform i'm not saying he'd be, fired, okay
BUT i would say that the chances that he gets
(17:15):
promoted inside the program might be good because and we
could certainly look at this running. Backroom we'll do. That
we got about two minutes and change. REMAINING i think
if you look at this running back, room and if
(17:37):
you look at the room over, time And i'll throw
another name in there too THAT i think falls in
line with. This but this guy wasn't a wasn't A
Dabo sweeney. PLAYER i Think Kyle richardson in the tight
end room are also in the spotlight this, year because
(18:02):
it feels pretty pretty certain to me that the tight
end room has underperformed and the running back room has,
underperformed and one or both of those needs to have
(18:24):
an elite. Year be nice if they both. COULD i,
mean if they both had an elite, year you'd be
talking about just an incredible season For. Clemson but there's
certainly no, guarantee ESPECIALLY i feel like in the running
(18:47):
back room that you're going to have great. Success LIKE
i think the tight end, room given the nature Of
Garrett riley's, offense given the nature Of kate Love nick at,
quarterback given the wide receivers that you, HAVE i think
(19:08):
it is reasonable to assume that the tight end should
have a good, year that the tight end should be.
Open AND i think that IT'S i think it's fair to, say,
hey look the tight. Ends you, know they can't control
(19:33):
when they get the ball and it really comes down
to the. Quarterback but you can't control if the quarterback
begins to trust you and if the quarterback feels like
you are going to make big plays when called. Upon
AND i think it's a big year for BOTH. Cj
spiller And Kyle richardson as. Coaches we'll talk more about
(19:55):
it When Clemson sports tal. Laws this wine with you
on The. Thursday Tim berray coming up in our number.
Two don't forget if you're up In tigertown to stop
buy our friends over At Alumni hall on the corner
Of campus On College avenue in Downtown. Clemson Alumni. Hall
you know your officially Licensed clemson, merchandise, HATS t, shirts,
(20:16):
tall get gear. More don't Forget clemson, students faculty in
military ten percent off when shopping in. Store It's Alumni
hall Where tiger fans. Shop go check them out today
At Alumni hall dot. Com and, hey you don't have
to just be A tiger. Fan by the, way lots
of other universities under The Alumni hall. Umbrella so maybe
(20:40):
you got a friend it's A tennessee, Fan go check it.
Out It's Alumni, hall all, right mentioned before the break
kind of maybe the way to call it a money
year feels like it's the money year FOR. Cj spiller
as the running backs. Coach feels like it's the money
year For Kyle richardson at tight. End almost a make
(21:07):
or break type vibe in my opinion around both of those,
coaches and again more so Than Kyle, RICHARDSON i think
if it doesn't work, out FOR. Cj spiller this. Year
he's not gonna be. Fired spiller would, be in my,
estimation promoted, right, Like, hey wyon't you come take this
(21:28):
job in the program can be an, ambassador and maybe
he would do. THAT I i feel like the running
back room At clemson has underperformed UNDER. Cj spiller's. Guidance
spiller took over the running back room in twenty twenty.
(21:52):
One now that would be off the heels of the
greatest running back In clemson, history leaving In travis Et,
in the greatest running back really statistically in The Atlantic
Coast conference. History and in twenty twenty one WHEN. Cj
spiller took, over the main running backs Were Will shipley
(22:16):
And Kobe. Pace Phil maffa was on the roster as
a freshman as, well But shipley in that year with
just seven hundred and thirty nine yards one hundred and
forty nine, carries he did have eleven. Touchdowns Kobe pace
with one hundred and four carries for six hundred and
forty one yards and six. Touchdowns then in twenty twenty,
(22:38):
Two Will shipley did go for eleven hundred and eighty
two yards of fifteen, scores but that is far and
away the best year any running back has had UNDER. Cj.
SPILLER Dj Leui unglilla that year was the second leading
rusher with five hundred and forty five yards And Phil
(22:59):
maffa with ninety eight carries for five hundred and fifteen total.
Yards then at twenty twenty, three a real down, year
splitting Carries MafA And. Shipley MafA one hundred and seventy
nine carries nine hundred and sixty five yards and thirteen,
touchdowns Will shipley one hundred and sixty seven. Yards excuse,
(23:20):
me one hundred and sixty seven carries eight hundred and
twenty seven yards and five. Scores and then this past
season minus Will shipley Fill MafA tote in the load
for eleven hundred yards eleven hundred and fifteen with eight.
Touchdowns K clubney the second leading, rusher and Then Jay
haynes with two hundred and ninety five. Yards Obviously haines
(23:41):
trying to return from an injury this. Year but it
is a, group and it is a position that feels
like it's falling on hard. Times AND i think it's
more so the lack of impactful, plays game breaking, runs
(24:09):
things that you saw and maybe we should call this
The travis Et in, effect things that you saw take
place Under travis etn have not materialized under the tutelage OF. Cj.
Spiller and it may have more to do with the
players than the. Coach but now that's what makes this
(24:33):
so significant when you turn your attention to that running
back room this, season and again the belief is that
you are going to have to trust in a freshman
In Gideon davidson to maybe be the. Guy, AGAIN i
(24:58):
Mentioned Jay haynes trying to return from. Injury haynes when
we interviewed his high school head, coach he told us
the reason That Jay haynes is an unknown prospect out Of,
Roanoke alabama for the most part was because he had
been behind two players that went on to play collegiately
and That Jay haynes was a great, player AND i
(25:20):
think he showed flashes of that before his injury in
THE Acc championship. Game, Now David, eziamume red shirt Freshman Jarvis,
green a red shirt sophomore out Of vermo played over
At Dutch, fork has not. Materialized Keith adams junior sort
(25:41):
of a hammerhead style running. BACK i don't think he's
going to be one that gives you the, breakaway game breaking,
moments maybe picks up that big third and. Two and
then there's a unique bird In Adam, randall And Adam
randall has shown some flashes in limited, opportunities BUT i
think Where kendell, maybe and this is something we talked
(26:01):
about in the, spring maybe gives you a unique piece
of his ability to catch the ball of the. Backfield
probably maybe arguably he should be the best receiving running
Back clemson's put on the field in, years maybe. Ever
and you've had some good, Ones Wayne, Gorman you've had
(26:22):
some good, Ones Travis etn catching them all in the,
backfield EVEN. Cj, Spiller but this guy is a former wide.
Receiver and then There's Gideon. Davidson AND i, think you,
know when we probably look back at some of those
running back rooms when When Travis etm was a, FRESHMAN
i might say the same, thing like who's going to
(26:43):
be the, Guy and it ended up being you know
That Tavian feaster And Travis etn shared that running back.
Room but then Obviously etn took the. Reins who's the
guy that will take the? Reins and if that guy doesn't,
emerge what does that mean FOR. Cj? Spiller BECAUSE i
think the argument could be made if there isn't that
(27:03):
guy in this. Roster and when you think about the
Way clemson limits the number of offers that go, out
it really does put the onus on talent evaluation and
making sure that you don't. Miss and at this, point
If Gideon davidson doesn't pop off the, page at what
point do you believe Maybe CJ's just continuing to. Miss
(27:26):
we'll turn our attention To Tighty, off the show that
shakes of South land on A, Thursday timbore coming up
in hour. Two all, Right, so as much as we
could call it The travis etn, effect when it comes
down to what you feel like you see from the
running backroom At, CLEMSON i think it is still very,
(27:48):
fair incredibly fair to call it The Jordan leggot. Effect
and that's been a long time Since Jordan leggott has
walked through those doors At. Clemson but the legg effect
and its impact on the evaluation of the results in
the tight end, room and one thing is certain when
(28:13):
you talk about the tight end play At, clemson it
has also underwhelmed and this year look a year, Ago
Jake brinny still had some moments through the, air no
doubt about, it forty nine, receptions five hundred and thirty
yards and seven, Touchdowns but the dude didn't want to
(28:38):
do the job blocking and Give Jordan leggott. Credit go
Back Jordan leggott as good as he was and as
clutch as he, was and as many plays as he
made catching the ball and making a move downfield and
really looking like an elite athlete on the, field unlike
(29:01):
some tight. Ends some tight ends just don't have that
level of. Athleticism like you think back to When Jordan
leggett dives at the goal line At Florida, state puts
his hand on the ground to give himself the ability
to extend the ball out over the goal. Line you
think about the play Where Jordan leggitt catches the ball
(29:25):
Against louisville and then turns the ball back to the
inside and ends up scoring a. Touchdown and then you
go watch like tight end play At clemson since he,
left and how few and far between those types of
(29:45):
moments have been for that tight end. Position AND i
think everybody's just waiting for someone to kick in that,
door AND i think one of the end caters AND
i brought this up several months. Ago one of the,
(30:06):
indicators at least for me about my concerns at tight
end is the fact that and there have been some
names that have come, through no doubt about. It but
when you go back a couple of years And Davis
allen's at tight end thirty nine, receptions four hundred and
(30:28):
forty three yards and five. Touchdowns and maybe some of
this comes off because of dj lell Unglo a being the,
quarterback Right, like maybe some of the Things i'm holding
these coaches accountable for come back to a underwhelming quarterback
(30:48):
being in charge of the offense for a couple of.
Years But Davis, allen even with the lack of statistics,
collegiately is playing in THE. Nfl Davis allen is AN
(31:11):
nfl tight, end not just drafted but. Playing and the
most receptions he had in the year where was thirty
nine in his final season for four hundred and forty
three yards and five. Touchdowns he had twelve total touchdowns
in his. Career AND i will spare you looking up
(31:36):
the stats for a tight end Like Jordan leggatt when
he was At, clemson and Remember legott barely held on
in THE, Nfl so now who is the guy at
tight end this? Year and a little bit light running
back Where clemson had to lean in to go Bring
(31:58):
Adam randall over tootentially help out tight end in some.
Respects you could make an argument has made a similar
move with leaning Into Ian shefflin for a fifth year
at tight. End the former basketball player brings in a huge.
FRAME i, mean you look at Him schefflin compared to
everybody else at tight, End he's gonna look like a.
Monster six' eight Two Forty christian bettencore is the one
(32:23):
that most people tend. To believe the red shirt freshman
out Of, Lake more illinois six four. Forty five most
people Believe that bettencore has, the talent athleticism and everything
that you want to be sort of in that same
style at tight end that you've seen great tight Ends Like,
(32:47):
jordan leggatt maybe have an Impact Like. Brock bowers maybe
not B. BROCK bowers, i mean he's, next LEVEL but
i mean this is something that you've been. Waiting FOR
and I Know josh sapp has, some talent but who's gonna.
Be elite bettencore would be the ONE that I Think
(33:10):
kyle ridgison needs to, show up MUCH like I think i. THINK.
C j spiller needs one of his recruits because if
it ends up being, you know at the end of,
the Year If, ian shefflin, all right let's Just Say
(33:30):
ian shefflin was the best tight End at clemson, this
season what does that say about the recruiting in? That
room what does it say if at Running Back adam
randall is the best running back in? That room what
does it say about? The Recruiting and i'll leave. It
(33:50):
THERE as, I noted i Think both Spiller And kyle
richardson are sort of in a. Money year they have
to go prove It because dabosweney has shown with the
Hiring Of, matt luke with the Hiring Of, chris rump
(34:12):
that if you're not cutting, the mustard so, to speak
he's going to go find somebody that can get. It
done and it doesn't matter what your. Ties Are, TYLER
grisham i thought last year was his. Money year guess what.
He did the guys he brought in made plays and made,
(34:33):
it happen and he bought himself, more time and now
he's got one of the top wide receiver rooms in.
The country we'll see how that plays out for him
this year. As WELL but i think he's say for,
A while i think you put in you prove. YOURSELF
once i think in this sport you get three to,
five Years and grisham. Earned it now IT'S, On cj
(34:54):
now It's On. Kyle richardson that's. My opinion, all right,
quick break we'll put a ball. On it in return
final segment of our Number One Clemson sports talk, Coming
Up tim beray. Joins us in a couple of weeks
since we Talked, with tim because we were at jury duty.
Last week fun stuff like it's so bizarre that jury.
(35:16):
Duty deal you can't talk about the trial until, the
trial or the you can't talk about the case until.
The trial but yet you're pinned to this room with
a bunch of other people and we didn't talk. About it,
you know some we might, have mentioned like the some
of the stuff where the lawyers are like searching, for Paper,
(35:39):
like god find, your, Paper bro like there are people,
like that, but, uh yeah it is just a. Weird
SCENARIO like i even got admonished at one point by
one of the one of, the bailiffs because the judge
called a couple of the called both lawyers up to
(36:02):
the approach. The bench you know that, old saint they'll
please approach. The bench so they're talking about something that
we're probably not supposed to, hear anyway and it is
completely silent in. The courtroom and so during, THIS moment
i was an alternate at. That time This, WAS thursday
(36:23):
i was still. AN alternate i had not been moved
up to a. HOT seat i did get moved up
to the hot Seat. On FRIDAY but i leaned over
to the other alternate during this break in the trial
to simply say this to the, Other, alternate hey even
if we're not allowed to stick around for, The result,
(36:46):
i'm Staying like i'm gonna stay in the courtroom and
watch it. Play out like THAT'S all. I said in
the bailiff's like snapping at, me, like, hey, hey hey
no talking not talking about. The case bub not talking about.
The case, TO mention i, get it like judges are the.
(37:08):
TOP dog, i mean everybody all rise the lawyers when they,
say something they kind of stand up a little bit,
to speak know, Your, honor yes. YOUR honor i get,
all THAT but i hate to tell JUDGES and i didn't.
My judge the judge Was not the judge in, my
(37:28):
case was not like some kind of, you, know controlling
didn't have like an, this attitude this how great they are.
Like this our judge was not like that. At all
but the bailiff made me want to look at him,
and say not. The judge the judge was, A she
but THE bailiff i wanted to look. At him and
(37:50):
when he snapped at me talking to the other guy
about just, STICKING around i wanted to look at him,
and say you do realize, without us this whole thing is.
Not HAPPENING like i know everybody's respecting. The judge you
do know that the citizens that are sitting here are
the ones that are really the most, important people because
(38:12):
this ain't it ain't fun to, be. Here baba i'm
not exactly gonna retire off of. THIS money i did
think about, that. Too though if they wanted to make
people want to be on, A jury i could fix
it in. A blink i can fix that in. A
snap pay the jury more than most people make to.
(38:34):
BE there i didn't say, all people but more. Than most,
you know if you paid the jurors three hundred dollars,
a day a lot of people are gonna probably. Stick
around LIKE when's i can't people be coming out of?
(38:55):
THERE going i cannot wait to get jury, duty again
the easy fifteen Hundred bucks i've, ever made but, instead,
instead uh it's Like no. Jerry duty. All right back
to the conversation we were, HAVING earlier i was Talking About.
KYLE richardson i was looking at that tight, end ROOM
(39:20):
and i don't KNOW if i. MISSED it i you,
KNOW what i didn't Even check Clemson sports talk dot
com to See if i'd made. The switch let me
go to. THE roster. I, don't yeah probably NOT because
i haven't Updated THE no. I did i did move
the roster of the twenty, twenty FIVE but i don't
Know that i've updated in. The system. This move i'm
(39:45):
gonna do it right Now while i'm talking. To You,
MARCUS dixon i didn't see his name on the tight,
end LIST and, i, thought, oh no Did Did marcus?
Dixon transfer.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
And.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
He Didn't But marcus dixon has now switched to. Defensive
end so the former tight end who, YOU know i
didn't know How good dixon would be at, tight End
(40:26):
But marcus, dixon APPARENTLY and i guess he's still gonna
wear number. Eighty four it looks, like that at Least on,
Clemson's Roster marcus dixon will play defensive End for clemson.
This Year so i've made the switch on. My ROSTER
but i just saw It on. CLEMSON'S website i don't
(40:50):
remember it from them, from spring but, you know spring
ball is pretty tough for Me because i'm kind of
all over the place with school and. Everything else, But
Yeah marcus dixon gonna switch over to the defensive side of,
(41:10):
the ball which maybe is a little bit of an
indicator that perhaps his hands were not as good as.
People THOUGHT now, i look he does have a photo
it looks like On his. Instagram account he must have
played defensive end DURING the uh during the spring GAME
(41:30):
and i just, Missed it, But Yeah marcus dixon switched
to the defensive side of. THE ball i thought about
IT when, i LOOKED and i didn't see his name
when we were talking about the tight, end room, because
man he's a heck of. An athlete he is a
heck of, an athlete and he played defensive ending in
high school. As well but he's gonna make the move
(41:53):
to the other side of. The ball so speaking of
making a move to the other side of, the ball
we're gonna make a move to the other side of.
The show our number two coming up right around. The
bend and, of course legendary And longtime CLEMSON. S. I
D clipson Hall Of Famer tim beret joins us right.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
It is our. Number two. That's drivetime i'm ready on.
The show the Shakespare, South Land clemson Sports tal Lot

(43:20):
Drip drip you know, the jingle seventh three to. Two

Website Saw. Met's plumbing over the neighbor's house the, other
DAY and i like to, think, that, yes indeed it
was because they ASKED and I recommended. Mets plumbing, all
Right timber ray on the, Guest, line tim. Welcome in how.
(43:41):
Are you.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
I'm, doing, Great law and how?
Speaker 1 (43:43):
You doing i'm? DOING good i, tell you. It's amazing
YOU and i were talking just a few weeks ago
about how busy things were on campus with all the
spring sports that are. Taking place you, got softball baseball
and tennis and everything, going on and then almost in
a tim it basically comes to a. Screeching. Halt h
(44:04):
what's it Like around clemson this time of year for
those of you that have been there as long as,
you have when things do really temper and the students.
ARE gone, i mean what's it light rolling around campus?
Right now.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
The biggest change and the biggest positive is when you
comes to Light on route one twenty three and take
a Left To, college avenue doesn't take it fifteen minutes
to make. The turn there's just not as, much traffic
so it's a lot easier to. Get around, but yeah
this kind of strange that you go from, You know
(44:42):
september One until, june first or second, THIS year i,
guess first and, you know with home events to go
to and then, you know all of, a sudden it's
over for basically for. Three months but but. That's okay we,
you know with the way football recruiting is and the
Album the grands for a portal, for baseball and, in
(45:04):
basketball we actually. STARTED workouts i think they had their
first Team workout estandy for. Men's BASKETBALL so i think
the transfers are on, Campus.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
Now tim beray with us here on. The program and
of course let's Start with Clemson softball tim for, a
minute because they went Out. To, texas Obviously the longhorns
are playing for the national, championship Now but clemson won
game one and put themselves in position to have two
opportunities to kick down the door and make it To
(45:35):
The Women's College. World, series unfortunately they come, up short
losing in ten innings seven to five and then getting
beat six to five in that final game of. The
Year For john ritman and those, young ladies they're getting closer,
and closer and certainly, this year with the run that
they made after the way, THINGS started i think this
may have Been Maybe john ritman's best. Job coaching they
(45:58):
were a young team. As, Well, uh tim it's. GONNA
happen i don't think that there's any question. About that
but it really was a bit of, A letdown i
think for softball Fans in tigertown to see those two
girls or those girls lose those final two games Out.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
In, austin, well yeah especially the second game, when uh,
you know a inning we got runners and second AND
third i think there were no out and uh and and.
Didn't score we were the, home team so just scrape
across one more run and you're you're going to. The
series and and then you look At what texas has
(46:36):
done since they're in, the championship. Uh series so uh
that that was kind, Of heartbreaking but, you're right got
to be one of the more overachieving teams, we've seen
especially when you just figured the team started out three
and six and lost all those good free seniors from the,
previous Year Including. Valerie cagles definitely gonna be at least
(46:57):
In The clemson Hall of. Fame someday so that, was
disappointing but at the, same beat it was just such
a rewarding speason to Win The. Agency championship the number
one ranked team on. THE road I think i looked
up it was the first time of women's sport had
ever beaten the number one ranked team on their. Home
(47:17):
facility so a lot to be happy about with this
season of a disappointed that had the opportunity to Get
To oklahoma city but.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
Didn't, happen now you've been around for the beginnings of
several different programs during your Time. At clemson has there
been one that's been more well accepted this early like
The way clemson softball has been or maybe embraced is the.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
Right, word well, you know you'd have to Say That
jim nason's progress been pretty well embraced when you figure
eight thousand people are going to virtually every home boat that.
We have obviously softball. HAS two i went to one
OF The ncaa tournament Games against kentucky and it was.
(48:08):
Absolutely packed but, you know when you look at what
a team has accomplished in their. Early, part now Remember
the clemson women's soccer team went TO The ncublea tournament
its very first year and might have gone their first
five or, six YEARS and i know WON the acec
regular season championship in its, Seventh Year so we've had
(48:30):
a good run of SUCCESS a b sports that, have
started and of course you gott to include lacrosse this
year getting to the second round OF the. Ncublea tournament so,
you know we've had a lot, of success especially with
these women's sports here in.
Speaker 1 (48:45):
Recent, years man it's been a fun Ride Watching john
ripman and those young ladies each and. Every season certainly
looking forward to what's to come for that young ball club.
Next Year tim berray with, us here He's on Twitter,
at Timberray The clemson Hall of famer. Joining us have
you gotten used to?
Speaker 3 (49:01):
That? Yet tim people referred to me as, That now,
so yeah it's nice. To hear and we're certainly looking
forward to the induction Weekend.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
In november And so clemson, baseball also the season came to.
A conclusion this one a bitter pill to Swallow, on
sunday losing in that early Game. Against kentucky, but look
when you, get beat it doesn't really matter whether you're
the top seed in, your regional whether you're the four
(49:35):
seed in. Your regional when you get beat in regional
play The way clempson Did Against west virginia in that
second matchup Of the little tournament There. In tigertown it's
so hard to bounce back even if You, BEAT kentucky,
i mean To Beat west. Virginia twice you just really
put yourself behind the. Eight ball what were your thoughts
(49:56):
on the way the? SEASON closed i know it was
certainly Disappointing for erica that you pulled the team together
in like the sixth or the seventh inning at some
point and just had to talk about the way the game,
was going, you know being down as much as. They
were what was what were your thoughts him on, You know,
clemson season the way it ended there In The, Clemson, regional.
Speaker 3 (50:19):
Yeah it, was disappointing but it could shit the the,
you KNOW The ncaa region was like no other tournament
or there were no other games that, you faced because
if you lose the, second game you got to win three,
more games including beat the undefeated. Team twice so if
you lose that, second game it is just, a killer, you,
(50:42):
know psychologically and so we've seen, that actually you know
in recent in recent Years where clemsons lost the second game,
at home and in fact they go back to all
the way back to nineteen, ninety eight we lost a
second Game To south alabama in sixteen innings and both
Coaches got now that was the days of the, sixteen
(51:04):
format but everybody kind of knew as that game was
going on as we went into the thirteen fourteen to
fifteen to sixteen and who's ever lost that game was
going to be out of pitching and was going to
be very difficult to uh to. Come back and and
so we've seen that happen in. Recent years that second, game,
is uh it's just, so important and we've had some
(51:25):
heartbreaking losses And ONE tendessee i remember a couple of,
years ago and so it's it is tough to come.
Back from but obviously a terrific year forty. FIVE wins
I mean i looks at a lot of the teams
that are, still going and, you know a lot of
teams don't have forty, five wins and we had a
we had eleven wins over. Ranked teams we had a lot,
(51:48):
of success got to a number, two ranking but, you
know the last twenty games of, the season we were
just a five, hundred team, and uh, you know just
a lot of the problems did involve around depth. Of
pitching most THAT had i believe he Tied the clemson
record for saves with still twenty games, to go and
(52:09):
then didn't have a save, you know the rest of.
The year so it was it, was difficult uh to
watch that last game when we got beat. Pretty bad
but but by, and large you got to say it
was a.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
Successful Season tim bray with us year On a, thursday
afternoon talking About Your clemson tiger. Baseball, team tim Where
Does cam canerella sort of fit into in your mind's
eye the, you know the History of. Clemson, baseball, yeah
(52:44):
certainly certainly a great a.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Great player his, defensive abilities catching. The ball, You know
i've seen a lot of. Center Fielders neil simon's comes.
To mind i've compared Him To neil simon's a. Good
bid they both were, Number ten they're, both lefties and
they both played an outstanding CENTER field. I do the,
(53:08):
only thing, of course With with cam was the arm
surgery had. To have he didn't have the the arm
that he had earlier in. His career and now he
certainly finished up strong with twenty two game, hitting streak
hit over three point fifty for the for. The season
kind of waiting to see What all america teams come
out and see what.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
He.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Makes now, you know there's been a lot of people,
talk about, you know putting his name out On the,
you know that's not necessarily that we Have a Ring
of honor in baseball like we do with. All sports
but they have a couple of names out there who
don't have, their degree so they're not In the Ring.
Of honor but certainly we're great Players Now chris Benson And.
(53:50):
Khalil green of course They Were national players Of. THE
year i don't think cam is at at, that level
but certainly the hits Oudt a Hall of.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Fame, Career Again tim morayle with us here on. The,
program now when you look at just, The, TEAM tim
I think William qualkin bush put out a stat talking about,
strikeout percentage and this is not Just, about clemson but
really across. THE board i think of the, hosting seeds
the TEAMS that i THINK when i looked, AT it
(54:22):
I took qualk's number and ran it up a little.
Bit more twenty one and a. Half percent if you
strike out twenty one and a, Half percent all of
those teams were eliminated in the. OPENING weekend, i mean
what does this team need, to do in, your opinion
to kind of rain that in a, little bit because
clearly not necessarily getting, on base but just putting the
(54:44):
ball in play seems to be the, big key, you
know for advancing in.
Speaker 3 (54:50):
Some, respects yeah it seems like we were a team
that got a. BASE enough i got a lot Of
walk we set a record for getting hit by, a
pitch getting hit by with the SET the acc record
in that in. That CATEGORY but i do think it
needs to improve in, terms of, you know hitting the
long ball and and team. Batting average so team batting
(55:14):
averages year was two seventy eight and, you know OUR
team era was five point. Oh nine that was the
first time since nineteen fifty six that we did not
hit two eighty and HAVE a era of under five
or at least five in the same season since nineteen. Fifty.
Six wow so my point kind, of being there are,
(55:37):
number one there are certainly areas where there needs to.
Be improvement, NUMBER two i think this was one of
the more. Overachieving teams you know that team in nineteen
fifty six that failed to hit two eighty and HAD
an era, over five they were four fourteen. And two,
you know this team was forty five and eighteen and
(55:57):
had a. Successful YEAR so I think eric did a
good job managing, you know, this TEAM and i do
think in a lot, of regards as you, can say
this Team, over KEEVES but i think it certainly needs
to improve both hitting and, you know and pitching. Pitching
depth obviously we had, you know the we Had THE
(56:17):
all acc starter And THE all, acc reliever but we
need to get some more pitching pitching depth as we.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Go Forward tim ray with us here for a few,
more minutes talking About Your, clemson Tigers, AND tim i
was talking college football a little, bit earlier and now
that we're what technically at the end of next month
WHILE the, acc kickoff which really gets, things rolling and Then,
in august you know For the tigers they'll be on
the grid IRON. Facing lsu but when you look at,
(56:48):
this offseason there's so much hype and Discussion About cave
clubnick And This clemson tiger offense and maybe, more specifically
just another year in the System Under. Garrett riley when
you talk about consistency in coaches that are in the program,
multiple years you've seen coordinators. COME through, i mean in,
(57:11):
your opinion, you know when you have guys that stick
around and kind of get entrenched a little bit with
the players and. THE staff, i mean how valuable is
That for clemson that This Is kate klebnick and this
is his third year running this System Under. Garrett riley,
OH yeah i.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Think it's very significant when you look at, you know
our history and the quarterbacks and how they've improved, over
time and and, you know, and nationally, YOU know i
quota to this stat the guys who are in the
three finals For The heisman trophy in twenty and, twenty
(57:51):
three how their average passing efficiency when they were sophomores
was Like seventy and then in the years, they were
of course their senior years when they all Went To
new york For The heisman, trophy celebration, you know they
were all in the. Top ten So and kate of
course has gone from sixty fifth to twenty fifth something.
(58:13):
Like that so he's, You know i'm that same type
of a run and a lot of it has to
do with familiarity and having the same. Same COACHES so
i think just plenty to be excited about when you look,
at that when you look at the receivers that we
that we have. Coming back obviously we don't have the
experience you're, running back but we do Have four attorney
starters in the, offensive line so, YOU know i can
(58:36):
see where there's a lot of People think clempson is
going to have have a very.
Speaker 1 (58:40):
Good season and, Then Defensively, tom allen we kind of
talked about his voice in the room as he takes
over on that side of the Ball for Clemson After.
Wes GOODWIN and i think the big question that you
have kind of like what we just, talked about this
is a new coordinator. Coming in you're trying to MAYBE
fit i don't want to say square pegs in. ROUND
holes i don't think it's quite like that, with football
(59:02):
but it will be a. Different SCHEME and i was
asked earlier this week, about that like how Much Of
tom allen's scheme that if we were to Throw On
penn state a, year ago do you think he will
be able to incorporate Into this clemson team in year
one or is it, simply hey look this is who
(59:25):
he is and it's going to be one Hundred Percent. Tom,
ALLEN yeah i KIND of i.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
Would compare it to going from twenty eleven to twenty
Twelve When brent vennables was here for his, first Year
And brent acorus had a great resume before he, got
here Just coach. Allan, does well whenever you have a,
new coach there's going to be a. LEARNING curve i
mean when we Went To brent benderholes in, twenty twelve
there was a little bit of a. Learning curve. You
(59:51):
know we didn't jump out in the top ten in
the nation in all the statistical categories his, first year
but certainly was. Much improved and, YOU know i think
we've we got some. TALENTED players i saw one service
this Week rank clempson's defensive line as the best in
the country and at the deepest. Defensive line but certainly
(01:00:11):
have some, very good, you know frontline players that are
gonna be certainly. A key but if you look At
coach allen's, you, know resume he's he's been terrific everywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
He's been, Final, thing tim we got about a minute and,
a half uh the college football conversations down the road
in terms of what it might look like with, the
playoff the five plus eleven model sort of being the
one that most people are leaning. In on what do
you think.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
About, that yeah we surely had a lot of talk
about the four four, two two and then therefore there
seemed to be a lot of pushback, on That Which
i'm i'm glad that. There, was uh IT just, i
mean it just seems the most, you know fair way
to do it is let, you know they have let the,
better teams according to the rankings of, the committee, you
know be selected for. The playoffs so if, you know
(01:01:04):
if THERE'S six, sec, teams fine if there's SIX eighty, s,
Teams Fine but i'm glad that we certainly have the,
you know have the automatic bids and that they're going
to go in that type, of order, you know based
on what the. Committee thinks but keep, in mind it's still,
a committee and everybody can talk about all the metrics
that want, they want but at the end of, the
(01:01:26):
day it's those whatever it is thirteen people that are,
you know in the room and discussing everything and how.
They vote so it's still, you know it's still not
one hundred percent according to, The numbers so it'll be
interesting to see how.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
That, goes forward, no doubt but it does feel better
with the five and, plus Eleven and i'm with you
if it's six, sec teams it's six. Sec teams that's
just what. It Is, Tim Bray clemson Hall, of famer
here with us On. The, thursday tim have a. Great
weekend there, You Go tim burray hanging out with us
here On a. Thursday, Afternoon, right well hit a. Quick
(01:02:01):
break we Talked about. Texas, SOFTBALL man i saw something
LAST night i had never seen before In That texas texas.
Tech matchup i'll take you rocking and rolling along with
you On a. Thursday afternoon The Show the shakes Of.
South LAND The nba finals getting underway tonight eight THIRTY.
On Abc the pacers And The Thunder, oklahoma city the
(01:02:21):
top team IN, the nba favored by nine and a half.
At home but LAST night i Put on i'm loving.
SO YouTube tv has now given us The quad box
with several. Different options it used to just, be, sports weather. Or,
news well now there's A local you can watch all
(01:02:44):
the local channels at, ONE time Abcnbccbs. And fox that's.
Pretty cool but it's also given me like. This MIX
and i don't know if it gives everybody a mix
of the channels they, most watch but it's like my
foremost watched channels in, a box AND so i had.
That ON so i had some news and sports, going on,
(01:03:04):
Pretty AWESOME and i had the women's softball first game
Of The national Championship Between texas Tech and texas in
Part because clemson Had faced texas out At The austin
regional and the Fact that clemson was a, game AWAY
(01:03:26):
as i Mentioned with timberray a few, minutes ago from
advancing To The Women's College. World series and Of course
i'm not Rooting for texas by, any MEANS but i
think you can obviously see Where if texas, does win
you can look at it And, go god not just
(01:03:49):
a cusp Of The College, world series but maybe the
cusp of being a champion collegiately. In softball but LAST
night i saw SOMETHING that i had never, seen Before
as Texas Beat texas tech in large part because of an.
(01:04:15):
Unbelievable mistake so it's late in, The Game texas tech
has a superstar pitcher in she was wheeling and Dealing
And texas tech was up One to oh now it's
the bottom of the sixth inning and the decision is
(01:04:36):
Made By texas tech that they're Gonna Walk, reese atwood
and the first pitch that was, A ball i'm gonna,
be honest might have been a Strike, like kennedy threw
it right across. The plate maybe it was a, little
high but it was across. The PLATE and i saw
(01:05:02):
some people on social, media, saying hey in, that moment
if you're the Head Coach jerry Glascow Of, texas tech you,
probably should, you know call for a time and go
talk to your pitcher about pitching the ball well outside of.
(01:05:26):
Home base but, he didn't and he had indicated that
he wanted her To Walk reese atwood to load the
bases and set up a force out at any any
base up, one zero Even though atwood was zero for
ten At The College world series at, that Point The
(01:05:48):
red raiders decided that they would attempt to have an.
Intentional pass and you can't JUST do i think was
It Major? LEAGUE baseball i think you can just, say,
it hey we're gonna walk, this guy and they send
them down like for pace, of play softball doesn't. Have
that you actually have to pitch. The ball canaday had
(01:06:08):
not attempted had not attempted a intentional walk, all season
and so the second pitch comes down and it's also
very close to. The plate then the third pitch comes
(01:06:31):
across again very close to, the plate and in, That
Moment reese ATWOOD realized i can hit this ball. Like
it it took, THREE pitches, i guess but she finally
got the confidence, to say you, KNOW what I think
(01:06:52):
i can hit one. Of these not, to mention she's
now in a three to, zero count so even if,
she misses it's. One, now additionally if, she misses you're
talking about the situation where they may just go after
her and try to strike. Her Out, but canaday who
was the former pitcher at standout Pitcher at stanford Now At,
(01:07:13):
texas tech throws the fourth pitch and it goes over,
the plate and with runners on second, and third at would.
Hit it here's that whole sequence as it played out ON.
The espn go ahead and. Run aboard Now, for texas
(01:07:38):
they're gonna walk.
Speaker 5 (01:07:38):
Her home.
Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
Me and scott will go ahead and take second. Base
uncontested it's a really interesting. Walk though it's pitches above the,
strike zone not pitches outside the.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
STRIKE zone i think.
Speaker 5 (01:07:59):
She's missed a Both her the last one was almost a.
Strike there it is this is a. Smart call reesatwood
the home run Leader, for texas one of the best
hitters that you're going to See in. Texas history you
don't want her to.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
BEAT you i.
Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
Get It, jolie mitchell who's, on deck has three home
runs here of, the series.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
And she will drive in a on her first hit
On The. WORLD series, i mean it was. Beyond bizarre
just pitch the ball off, the plate not over. The
plate and that's the Difference in, Game one. Game two
(01:08:43):
texas can Win The national. Championship tonight you can catch
that game at eight O'CLOCK. On espn just, you know
reesat would one of the great pitchers in, college softball
and she. Admitted it, you know she took full blame
me able to? Do, it no. It wasn't But also
(01:09:03):
i'm a.
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
College pitcher i'm a JUNIOR now i should be able to.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Do that so that's An So nijah, kennedy, saying hey
look that's. On me i've walked, players, before intentionally. Not
often maybe that's her second. One ever but she was
asked if she'd ever had to do, it before and,
she says, no excuse and she's a. GREAT pitcher i
would expect her to come back and play very, well
(01:09:27):
tonight and, WITH softball i would imagine she could probably
pitch tomorrow night as well. If necessary, all right, Quick
break we'll come back with more here On a. Thursday
afternoon keep it locked for more clumps of sports Talk Called.
Fox sport back at it On. The thursday clemson Of
sports Talk on Twitter At, clemson Sports. TikTok instagram we
are where. You are come follow Us, On instagram come
(01:09:49):
follow us. On TikTok let's have. Some fun TikTok's a
place to. Be too love that, All right so TONIGHT
The nba finals. Get UNDERWAY as i mentioned earlier in,
the show And While oklahoma city is a heavy Favorite
against indiana in The in, game one eight THIRTY, on
abc ACCORDING, to espn the betting public is Backing. The
(01:10:15):
Pacers the pacers ENTER The nba finals as one of
the biggest long shots in the past, twenty seasons but
apparently the public thinks they have a Chance with Halliburton,
with Siakam the pacers are five to one underdogs According To,
david purdham to Beat The Oklahoma city thunder in, the
(01:10:37):
series and those are the longest odds for a team
ENTERING The nba finals since the two thousand And Four,
detroit pistons who were five to one Against The Los.
Angeles lakers you may not want to look up how
that one played Out For. Los angeles. Not Great oklahoma
(01:10:58):
city again favored by nine and, a half the third
largest spread for any opening game in the past thirty,
five years and the thunder have been favored in every
game they've played this. Off season but the betting public
siding With the pacers against those, long odds AND so
(01:11:25):
espn Bet reported thursday that seventy eight percent of the
bets in the series winner Were, on indiana while ninety
percent of the money wagered Was On. Oklahoma CITY, at
bettmgm ninety four percent of the bets in the series
were On. The pacers, And again i'm not a huge
(01:11:47):
like betting guy by, any MEANS but i do think
that a part of this comes down to a running
theme that we've had on this program when we Talked About,
oklahoma city and that is. Their YOUTH and i don't
(01:12:07):
know how much some of the numbers will change as
the series, moves ON but i would believe that in
some respects game one will make a huge determination about
how people feel moving forward in this series because of
(01:12:31):
the youth Of the thunder and if they look wide
eyed and, bushy tailed so, to Speak about, GAME one
i think there will be major concerns about the remaining
games in. This series even if they were To win,
GAME one i think there would be some concerns about
that now looking at their schedule, this SEASON because, i thought,
(01:12:56):
you know part of, me, thought, well okay maybe that's
where some of the story needs to. Be told what
about when They played indiana this year and when these
two teams met up earlier in the season. Two times by,
(01:13:19):
the WAY that's. I believe i BELIEVE the nba when,
they schedule it's across. THE board i think everybody plays
everybody in, their league AND then i think they play
everybody else. Two times But The indiana pacers lost at
home one twenty one fourteen back In on december the,
twenty sixth and then they got blown Out At oklahoma
(01:13:42):
city one, thirty two one. To Eleven and i'm wondering
if that competitive Nature of game one might be part
of the reason that there's some belief, and, look teams
you are a much different Team in june than you
Are in march Or, in december and you don't know
(01:14:03):
who's gonna show up and or. Show OUT but i
can tell you in game one of that, First Matchup
Shay gilgis alexander went for forty five in, that ballgame
forty five points Against, the pacers And the pacers were
(01:14:26):
led and scoring in that Game By. Andrew Nimhard tyrese
haliburton only had four points in a six. Point, loss
now he played thirty five minutes. And change i'm not
sure if he was banged up, or what but he
only scored. FOUR points i Don't think halliburton's gonna score
(01:14:48):
just four points in their. Matchup tonight and then if
you look back at the second matchup between these two
teams that blowout one thirty two to, one eleven if
there's reason to truly Fear The Oklahoma, city thunder it's
(01:15:12):
a twenty one point blowout where Gild justs alexander scores,
thirty three which is really. Really Good, But tyrese haliburton
gave you eighteen and you still. Got drilled now home
and away and. ALL that i mean obviously that, that
(01:15:33):
matters but it sounds like the public is believing, pretty
early at least In The. Indiana pacers we'll see if
the public feels the same way after they get a
chance to see these two teams facing off tonight at. Eight,
THIRTY again I Think oklahoma city is gonna run away with.
This thing and, for me it's not Just About, gilda
(01:15:57):
alexander but his, surrounding cast including one of the PLAYERS
that i think is obviously Underappreciated In, isaiah hartenstein the
seven foot Center For. Oklahoma city and not to mention
the other freakishly talented ballplayer In, chet holmgrm who runs
(01:16:23):
anywhere from seven foot two to maybe even seven foot
three depending on how people but his ability to not
only handle, the basketball but to clean up stuff around.
The rim he's a, power forward but. He's NOT and
i think most, of you if you did not realize,
(01:16:46):
that already we'll see that unfold in, this series or
at least in this. Opening game you're going. To see
if you WATCH The nba finals tonight and you haven't watched,
any basketball you're going to see what a difference that
guy can make for. A team, and again it is
a very, young TEAM but i think it, is AN
(01:17:08):
but i think it is an extremely talented. Ball club,
all right, quick break we'll come back and put. The ball.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
What have you done for? Me lately it's a. Fair
question just don't lose sight of the. Bigger picture don't.
Forget history lucky for Us, at clemson the answer to
the questions what have you done for? Me lately and
what have?
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
You done always are.
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
The same.
Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
We win.
Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
Final segment On a Thursday Afternoon clemson Sports tal Lot
and swan hanging out, with you and again thank you
To timber ray for being a part of. The program,
of course the summer is here and we are closing
in on the kickoff of college. Football season it'll be
here before you. Know, it obviously with the programming of
(01:18:54):
the show and the things of. That nature one of
THE things i think you can't Expect on fridays is
a little recap from the week because there's not a lot. Going,
on obviously we'll talk about some of the, live stuff
but tomorrow will reset Some Of william qualkinbush. For you
we'll give you A Little mike yuva tomorrow, as well
(01:19:14):
and that'll probably be some of the some of the
plan here during the Summer, on fridays just to make
a little lighter lifting during sort of the, down times so,
to speak of the. Dark times we will recap THOUGH
The Nba oklahoma City and indiana against night at. Eight
thirty we'll talk about college softball, as well and gonna
(01:19:36):
really try to look to get some interviews done here
on the program with some of the recruits and things
of that nature. As well so we'll try to schedule
some of that up over the summer to fill some
of the gaps as the, you know the the window
(01:19:56):
of opportunity of things to discuss in terms of actual
happenings on the field tend to divert to what would
you call, it, hypotheticals RIGHT and i don't like dealing
in a ton, Of hypotheticals but as college baseball, winds
down will certainly be talking About The College world series
(01:20:20):
after we. Get there got to get through These super regionals,
this weekend, but after, you Know The College world series
is kind of where you cross over into the realm
of what if scenarios and speculating about what the teams
are going to look like and so on and. So forth,
so again it's that time of. The year This is
(01:20:41):
this is when a lot of people. Ask me, They,
say swanny how do you know you do? This show
but how do you what do you? Talk about what
do you talk About in June? And july and it's
it's honestly not as difficult as you, might think because
there is a lot going on IN The nba finals,
and everything and what's? The date let, me see this
will give you. An idea what's the scheduled date of
(01:21:08):
the final games Of The College. World series we'll SEE
if i can get those, real fast because that kind
of that's when as a, you know individual covering, the
sport that's when it really not, the sport but college
(01:21:29):
sports for the. MOST part i mean that to me
has always been sort of when it really begins to.
Die down so at the end Of The College, world series,
let's see that's scheduled to End on june, twenty third
so you got about. A month it's about. Four weeks
for everybody, that wonders it's really only about four weeks,
(01:21:55):
of true there's not a lot going. On now it's,
more fun, you Know when clemson's making the run To
the elite eight, in basketball that stretches. It out it
would be a lot more Fun if clemson was In
The College, orld series, right like because there's a little
more focus and attention to detail on the team that.
(01:22:17):
We cover but the dark times of the downtimes aren't
as bad as. People think, SEVENTEEN days I, Guess monday
june twenty third would be the potential final day of
college baseball, this year the final day of college. Softball,
potentially however tonight and again that gets underway at, Eight
(01:22:41):
o'clock so if you're interested in, college softball you want
to see potentially the, final result it'll get going to
EIGHT on Espn with Texas And texas tech facing Off
In oklahoma city after last night insane finish again if you,
(01:23:03):
Missed It texas tech up one. To Zero, nijah kennedy their,
star pitcher on the in the circle And the texas
has runners on. The corners at the beginning of, this
sequence she's trying to Walk.
Speaker 5 (01:23:21):
The.
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
Texas batter the first pitch is high and over. The
plate it is. A ball this is an. Intentional walk
did not. Look intentional the next couple, OF pitches i
might deem them. To be the, second, PITCH especially i
might have deemed it to be, A strike texas player
(01:23:41):
patient waits and then on and actually the runner. Took
sacus so now runners are on second. And third both
runners are in, scoring position And the, texas batter her
last name Was. At wood she's at the plate and the,
fourth pitch supposed to be, a ball comes across the
plate and she smacks it two runs score in the
(01:24:04):
bottom of. The Sixth texas tech did get a runner
on in the top half of, the seventh but could,
not Score and Texas wins. Game one just a. Wild
finish you'll never see anything else. LIKE it, i mean it.
Was crazy texas wins two To one game. Two Tonight if,
texas wins they are your. NATIONAL champs, a right we
gotta get out. Of here we'll be. Back tomorrow, until then,
(01:24:25):
as always you'll take care now And. Go tigers
