Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Monday morning. It is Coffee and Company, fueled by
Thornton's with you here at News Radio eight forty whas
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on
the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at WHS dot com.
And if you're listening on the app, we've got the
talk back line powered by Alex R. White Pllcseudistracted Driver
dot com. Been a busy morning so far. Just an
hour to go for us and then we'll hand it
(00:21):
off to Tony and Dwight. If you were a YouTube
TV customer and you made the move because of this
dispute between Disney and ESPN, meaning those those two being
really one entity feuding with Google, which owns YouTube TV,
if you made the move, I'm curious how many of
(00:41):
how many of you are there? And I was going
to say how many of us? But I'd be a
liar because right now I'm I'm I'm the idiot that
is well, I guess now I've got a decision to make.
Do I want to be petty and spiteful and just
say you know what, you you waited too long and
I've already at least because right now I've paid for
NFL Red Zone on YouTube TV, So I also have Fubo,
(01:05):
which gives me what I was missing until Friday because
the YouTube TV ESPN dispute came to an end. It
was Friday evening when everybody had access to those channels
they were missing, And it lasted a long time to
where I feel like, regardless of where you are as
a sports fan, meaning if you're somebody that really doesn't
(01:26):
watch a whole lot, maybe you watch a little bit,
I think that was enough time to where if you
have YouTube TV, you at least noticed you didn't have
access to any of those channels. I mean, that's not everybody,
but I'm sure a lot, And I'll give you an example.
Sports is a part of not just your it's not
just your hobby, it's not just your escape, it's not
(01:46):
just entertainment. Sports is a part of our culture, and
that varies dependent upon where we're talking about. But last
week when Louisville and Kentucky played in basketball, we all
know what that game is for this state. You can
be a non sports fan, maybe not anti sports, but
just like it doesn't really come to mind for you,
(02:07):
but you realize what it is around here. When it's
red V blue. That may have been the first time
certain subscribers realized they didn't even have access to ESPN,
because that'd be the one instance where they're looking for it,
but not because they just need their sports consumption. It's
just for a lot of folks, how do you not
have that on when they're playing around here because of
(02:27):
just how much we care about college basketball. So I'm
anxious to see if we do get any real data
from YouTube TV as far as how many customers they
ended up losing, because I think it was a dangerous game.
That won't be a decision that'll be the demise. I mean,
I don't think YouTube TV is going to go away,
(02:48):
but ESPN and they look. If you want to criticize them,
that's fine, but if you're going to truly evaluate who
won the war, I think ESPN won it and they
want it moving forward to where they stood their ground
and realized they have leveraged nobody else does. If if
you are in the market to reach a ton of
(03:10):
viewers live on TV, your best bet to do that
is in sports, because nobody watches live content to the
level of sports. There are the occasional things that are
appointment viewing that people will say, Okay, now I got
to watch this right now, it's on live, find me
a screen, whether it be my device or a TV.
(03:32):
The election coverage, like the debates, things like that. There's
also some random things because every year that we get
the top one hundred most live viewed events on television
in the in the year, and nearly all of them
are sports. And I mean that nearly every single one
of them it's sports. So of all those sporting events,
(03:53):
ninety percent of those are NFL games. So what I'm
what I'm getting at is if YouTube TV was just okay, well, look,
you know, hey, if you're not going to come to
the agreement that if you're not going to accept our terms,
then we'll just move on without you. Well that you
think that you're going to be able to maintain your
customer base that's anywhere close to what you had with
live sports than without it. Again, ESPN realized we we
(04:17):
do deserve a bigger piece of the pie because we're
not like, there's a good probability that the reason anybody
ever signed up for your service at all at YouTube
TV was because they know they needed to watch live sports.
So we all lost as consumers, right as customers, because
we missed out on stuff that we were paying for,
(04:37):
that we were supposed to have and we have no control.
You've got two companies fighting, fighting with each other. Disney
and Google essentially were at war, and I'm sure they
had They'll give you a good reason as to why
they tried to stand their ground and why they fought
like they did, because they're both going to tell you
they're fighting for you when I have a hard time
(04:58):
believing that. But over all, we have to just call
it what it is. And I would rarely side with
Disney and ESPN really on anything, to be honest with you.
But this is just this. This isn't even opinion based,
This is just facts. Live television still has a lot
of value to people who want to advertise, and there's
nothing competing with live sports in the live TV world.
(05:22):
And I think it was evident with the amount of
time that this this fight lasted. And it's not really
that YouTube TV is doing anything wrong. They just got
to read the room. Like YouTube TV they they I
have no issue with them overall as far as the
service they provide, but if they if they couldn't read
the room that. Yeah, you know what, we probably have
(05:43):
a lot of these monthly subscriptions because people like sports.
But we're not going to budge and we know that
we've got enough loyal customers that'll just change their lifestyle
to no longer have it where they consume sports the
way they used to. I mean, that's just that's delusion.
So now I got to figure out what am I
going to do? Am I gonna stick with ubo and
then just cancel YouTube TV in the NFL season comes
(06:04):
to an end, to drive bail on my trial and
just go back to the way it was before. I'll
probably do that because that's the most convenient thing to do,
and I'm all about convenience. I don't believe that if
I do cancel YouTube TV, they're gonna they're gonna, you know,
make a phone call to try to win me, win
me back. They'll be fine without me. All Right. It's
eight twelve year news Radio eight forty whas. Stick with
(06:25):
us right here again, taking you up until nine o'clock.
Hang out. We're rocking and rolling here on a Monday morning.
Appreciate you hanging out with us at news Radio eight
forty whas. It is coffee and company, and we are
with you for the next forty minutes roughly. Then we'll
hand it off to the fellas Tony. I believe Dwight
may be enjoying some some vacation time this week. In fact,
(06:47):
I think both of them are out later in the week,
and that means you're gonna get Leland Conway in very
familiar voice, a familiar face for us, of course, our
former colleague here. So you'll you'll be in good hands. John,
just curious, probably a conversation for off the air. But
while the heck not, do you have any vacation left.
I've got two days left, okay, I have them submitted.
I don't know if they're approved yet. They're for in December.
(07:08):
I got to burn some because I don't want to
be that guy that leaves them on the table. And
I've done that before. And look, it's just because, I mean,
they can't keep me out of here. I love this
place so much. I mean it's just even whenever I've
got time I need to take off, I just you
can't keep me out here. And I hope you can
sense the sarcasm there. But in the sports world, whenever
I was hosting sports each day. It would just feel
(07:30):
wrong to be to be off work during certain holiday
times because, yeah, it's time to take time that you
can take because you know, your job gives you time
off that you can take, and no better time to
take off than those holidays to spend that with your family.
But a lot of times that's come with the Kentucky
Louisville game and the Bowl games and things like that.
So I need to double check mint and see what
(07:52):
I've got left is I'm sure it's a rare thing
where you end up getting to the end of the
year and they don't roll over and you didn't use them.
So don't want to do that this year. But yeah,
in fact, I bet there's a lot of folks, especially
next week that probably saves some time they have to
just give themselves an extra amount of time off during
during Thanksgiving, which again crazy to say it, but it's here.
(08:14):
Thanksgiving will be here next week, which another reminder how
fast this calendar year has gone by. All right, let's
talk about my friend, my good friend, he's been helping
folks in this area when it comes to the buying
and selling of your home process, which is by the way,
it's a pretty big deal, right Bob Sikohler and his
team at remaxs Properties Ease, the Secolar team, they have
(08:35):
been doing it long enough to where their results it
really speaks for itself, the amount of reviews they have,
five star reviews, countless reviews. Really, it's because it's such
as it's a heavy process. Let's put it that way, right,
buying and selling a home. There's so much that goes
into it, and you're just hopeful that it works out,
especially if you're wanting to get into the home that
you believe is your dream home, or if you're wanting
(08:58):
to sell your house and really really make a profit
from it, or maybe you just are it's urgent to
sell your house because you want to get in that
dream home. So there's a lot of moving parts, there's
a lot that goes into it, and there's nobody better
to help you navigate that than Bob's Sicoler and its
team again it's the Cucolar team at Remax Properties East.
There's a lot of noise, a lot of coverage about
(09:20):
the industry for good reason. When it comes to interest
rates and just the market, well, that can get confusing
for a lot of people myself included, and I'm sure
there's some that just think they know what's going on.
But if you're not an expert, if you're not living
it day to day, it would make no sense for
you to have all the knowledge that's needed. That's what
Bob and his team, that's what they do, right. They
can market your house to the right people. They can
(09:41):
tell you, yeah, interest rate's probably not ideal, but still
here's what you should do. Take advantage of where you
could benefit from the market and where it is right Mary,
the house date, the interest rate. That's something Bob said
the other day when we were chatting, and it makes
total sense. Right. Interest rates are gonna change. You're gonna
have opportunities at some point to restructure. So again, if
(10:02):
you're thinking about buying or selling and you've just been
putting it off, don't because you could potentially, especially put
in your house on the market, you could make a
big profit. So again, it's it's the Cecolar team. It
Remax Properties Ease check them out at we sell Louisville
dot com. You can give Bob a call directly Fibo
two five. Let make sure I've given you this number correct,
because I think I know, I know it's I know
(10:22):
the number off the top of my head, but I
also know that they want me to deliver it in
the right way. So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm
gonna make sure I've got it correct for you, because
if you go to the Cecolar team website, you'll get it.
We sell Louisble dot com as the right website. And
this is a really really unprofessional way of me to
deliver this because again it's it's the Cecolar team. But
you know the number five O two three seven six
(10:43):
live five O two three seven six, five four eight
three is the number. And I could have just moved
on there, but I got to make sure you know
the number five O two three seven six five four
eight three or check them out online. It we sell
Louisville dot com and it's it's the Cecolar team. All right,
Quick time out. We've got trafficking weather updates on the way.
We'll get to another sports update and Roy is set
to join us coming up here at eight thirty five,
So stick around at News Radio eight forty w h as.
(11:06):
All right, we were wrapping things up here on a
Monday morning Tony Venette's coming your way, Dwight is he's
he's not with us this week.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Right, Yeah, that's where he is.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
He didn't go to Cabo again, did he.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
He's doing the he'll be all for basically the rest
of the year, about half the year. He's got a
lot of the ketchup sil So I don't know where
he is, but I got to tell you. I'm ready
to and I'm off Wednesday through Friday, so I'm heading
to Charleston.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Oh nice, Yeah, yeah, nice, going to see John.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah, yep, he's graduating from Nuclear Power School.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Tonti's son. I mean he's already well and now he's
graduating from Nuclear Power Power School.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Yeah, I say that, right, yeah, And I saw a
picture of him.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
You got it, honestly, though you I'm not trying to
do the bit of like, oh, former rock radio guy,
his son's a genius, because that's a little played out.
But like you have to be as a father myself
whose children are young, you have to be insanely proud.
Oh yeah, not that you wouldn't be, but like it's
one of those things where I just imagine if if
my son grows up to have the success your young
(12:07):
son is already having As a young man, I would
stop people in the street, Hey gotta tell you about
my son how Brady is, because I'd be so proud,
you know what I mean, Like I would, I would
like wear it on my forehead. Uh yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
But what you don't want to do is get used
to the successes to where you dismiss him because you
set the bar so high for some kids. Look, I
have multiple kids. You set the bar differently, for sure.
Different everybody's different. If you've ever coached a minute of
any sport, you realize who the ones you can yell at,
who's the one you have to hug, and you got
(12:39):
to push different people and you set the expectation level
on different one. But you don't want to dismiss the
successes like, oh, that's just John, right. You want to
make sure he knows I'm proud of it.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Okay, Well, because because I feel like you kind of
do that, Yeah, maybe just to us askin I'm sure
behind the scenes still like you're letting him know, and
I'm sure he knows it's And again that's one of
the things of a father son, like you don't have
to tell him.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, I ingrained his head. My philosophy is you get
twenty four hours to celebrate or twenty four hours to cry.
So after twenty four hours, I don't care what you did,
or go do it again. No one else cares go
go do something else.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
And and this is gonna sound corny, but I think
it'll it'll stick with you forever. As a father and
as a son, there's there's a constant want to to
make your make your dad proud.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
And you understand, I don't care how old he gets,
He's always gonna need his own man.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Oh of course, yeah, absolutely, So, Hey you you enjoy
your your half, your your part. You're a part timer
this week.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Basically, yeah, have fun. We're out of here. Tony's coming
your way next right here. He was ready to wait.
