Speaker 1 (00:00):
So it was on Friday night whenever the ESPN and
YouTube TV war came to an end. And I really
think YouTube TV I believe that they are the losers here,
just my opinion. Now again, they still can lose if
you can lose five million dollars a day, which is
what was being alleged. I mean, I guess maybe it

(00:22):
was Disney. Both of them are losing money. YouTube TV
was losing subscribers. It was Disney that was allegedly losing
five million dollars per day. So really, if you can
have this fight and it cost you that much money
on both sides with subscribers and of course just losing
money because you're not you're shut down essentially, then you're
not really a loser. You're doing pretty well. But overall

(00:42):
I have a hard time seeing ESPN as a loser
in this because they were able to, I believe, make
it quite clear that when it comes to watching live
television in America, ESPN has something that has a lot
of value Whenever there's really not a whole lot of

(01:03):
valuable options or valuable pieces of content when it comes
to live consumption. And what I mean by that is
people still watch TV. They watch. I mean, really, it's
content on their devices, phones, tablets, of course, televisions. I mean,
if you've got a smart TV, I mean it's like
you get a big iPad. Really, So we consume content

(01:24):
on our screens in a variety of different ways. But
when it comes to live television, something that is appointment viewing,
Hey this is on, let me sit my ear end
down and watch it, because I want to watch what's
going on in real time. There's really nothing that competes
with sports and ESPN. They knew the leverage they had,
They had a lot of the games, and I think

(01:44):
that that was something they realized, Hey, it's not ideal
for us to not be available to YouTube TV customers
because that does, in fact impact the amount of people
who watch. There's no doubt about it. But they didn't
know it wasn't as if they just didn't exist anymore.
You could still get it elsewhere, And I think ESPN
realizes the scenario where people just decide, well, yeah, you

(02:08):
know what, I guess I'm just gonna stick with YouTube
TV because I don't want to go look for another
option where I may pay less money and by the way,
get access to sports channels. Again like ESPN, ESPN, U,
ACC Network, SEC Network, all that. I mean, that just
wasn't realistic. They would just move on with life and
just not care anymore. And that gives you value. You
have something that people want and I'm not sure how

(02:32):
much they actually need it. That was my worry is that, Okay,
maybe this is a real danger zone moment because you're
you're actually making somebody go without something that they think
they can't live without. But maybe they realize, oh, yeah,
I don't have access to sports and I don't even care.
And I'm sure there were some that that was the
way this played out for them, But people like sports, right,

(02:57):
and not every sporting event is on ESPN family of stations.
I mean, the NFL Sunday's not highly impacted because again
they're on most of those channels. Are you know, you're
talking CBS, Fox, Even the Sunday night game is is
an NBC thing. So the only Monday on the Monday
in football is the only ESPN NFL game that people
lost out on. So this would not have been possible

(03:21):
in my opinion, as far as the link of this
holdout from both sides, if it impacted all NFL consumption.
But if you watch sports, I think even a little bit,
if it's something you just keep up with a little bit,
in the last two plus weeks, you probably realized that
you were no longer had access to something that you

(03:41):
that you need access to. Maybe not every day, but
certainly I think in that amount of time you realized, Hey,
I guess I am going to go ahead and ditch
YouTube TV because why not. I can get everything I
need and get sports back and maybe pay less than
what I'm paying for YouTube TV. So I think this
could have lasted even longer and ESPN would have proven, hey,

(04:05):
look you may not want to because that's what it
came down to, is ESPN Disney. Essentially, they realize what
they have and they realize they've got value that nobody
else can offer, as far as just the demand to
have it live. So I'm sure there was some truth
to what YouTube TV was saying that they're being greedy,
we're pointing the finger at them. You need to contact

(04:27):
Disney and let them know you want access back on
YouTube TV, And I'm sure many people did that. But
at the end of the day, life is all about leverage, right,
and ESPN has it. They just do. And it really
is telling that the NFL, which is king. I mean
it really you only lost one NFL game per week
if you have YouTube TV, and that's not that big

(04:49):
of a deal. But it's also the one and only.
I mean, if you've got a good money the night
football game, think about viewership and ratings, because Monday night
football it's a standale thing. It's not competing with other games.
So I'm not at all surprised to see that this
came to an end. And again, I'm sure you can
find ways to determine that Disney and ESPN were the

(05:11):
losers here, but I think you'd be reaching because at
the end of the day, who needs who more ESPN,
They're still available on all these other providers. In fact,
they've got their own thing with like the Hulu where
you can you know, they're all under the same umbrella.
And yet YouTube TV. I think they just I don't
know what it was, if it was arrogance, if it
was just lack of awareness. But newsflash, if you no

(05:33):
longer can offer everything that comes with live sports that
ESPN has and you just decide, yeah, we won't, we
won't do business with you anymore. We're gonna offer all
these other channels, but ESPN, Disney, you guys can you
guys can go kick Rocks. The scenario where you could
do that and still maintain even close to the customer
base that you've become used to is delusion. So again,

(05:54):
life's all about leverage. Who had it here ESPN? And again,
it would have never been this if it impacted more
than one NFL game per week because when it comes
to live television viewership in this country, sports has no competition,
and the NFL is really on its own planet when
it comes to that because of just that's what people

(06:14):
still watch live at a high level and there's not
many other things that are just appointment viewing for us
in society. All right, quick time out. We've got traffick
in weather updates on the way, so stick around. It
is coffee and Company. We are fueled by Thornton's right
here at news Radio eight forty whas So, fraud within
the Snap benefits system is going to require in a
lot of people, maybe everybody, having to reapply and go

(06:38):
through the process to see if you are if you qualify,
and that's the type of thing that would happen whenever
they uncover one hundred and eighty six thousand cases involving
people receiving benefits who are actually dead. Yeah, they were
usually raise some eyebrows. Wait a second, something doesn't make

(06:59):
sense here. One hundred and eighty six thousand people that
are no longer with us, they're still receiving SNAP benefits.
And by the way, that's just in twenty nine states specifically.
They don't even know if it's how widespread it is overall.
So yeah, The Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins says, the Trump

(07:19):
administration is preparing to make every single person on SNAP
reapply for benefits after this federal probe uncovered the amount
of widespread, widespread fraud that they're dealing with here. So
I'm sure there are some that may be worried about
reapplying and thinking, Okay, I think I qualify or am

(07:41):
I going to be flagged for maybe not qualifying under
something I didn't even realize was part of the qualifications process. Look,
fraud exists every day in life, more so than we
probably even know. But one hundred and eighty six thousand
dead people still having money sent it's going somewhere, and

(08:02):
of all those who still are able to obtain this
help through the means of a dead person, Like you
know what you're doing, right, Like, what's the scenario where
somebody's out here receiving Snap benefits from through through someone
who's dead and they don't know it? Right? Like scary?
Also just awful that this this is the thing. One

(08:26):
of those one of those moments where I just think, man,
you really are naive because if you would have told
me weeks ago this was the thing, and like I would,
you're a conspiracy theorist. What are you talking about? That's
crazy that there's no way, how could that happen? How
could one hundred and eighty six thousand cases of snap
fraud where there's dead people. Yeah, there's no way. That's
just we would know nobody would do that. I guess
that's how I was wired for a long It reminds

(08:49):
me back and this is an exaggeration, but it reminds
me whenever I was like a young to mid level
teenager where I realized, wait a second, so you're saying
all grown don't do the right thing, all grown ups
are good? Like what It's a real eye opener for
young me, And that's kind of where I find myself
at times now whenever I learn about the fraud and

(09:12):
the corruption that exists in society, I guess it was
out of sight, out of mind for me. But yeah,
this is the kind of thing that will require everybody
having to go through the process and reapply when you
find out that there's one hundred and eighty six thousand
cases of people receiving benefits who are dead. All right,
we've got an update of traveling weather on the way.

(09:32):
Another sports update coming up as well, So stick around,
don't go anywhere, don't move, keep it locked. What are
some other ones? What's Tony Vinetti? Keep it where you
got it, Keep it where you got it. News Radio
eight forty whas it is News Radio eight forty whas
Coffee and Company with you, and we are fueled by Thornton's.

(09:52):
Make sure you keep them in mind. They've got what
you need to stay fueled for the day ahead, including
a lot of good breakfast options. Almost bought some biscuits
and gravy to bring in just to have you guys
sample it. I probably would have eaten some myself, but
I'm a weirdo when it comes to eating. Before I
go on air and eating while I'm on the air.
But as I was looking at all the options, it
hit me, you know, you could. You could get a

(10:15):
different breakfast breakfast item at Thordan's every day and be
satisfied because they've got all different kinds of sandwiches. I
always guess up the sausage, egg and cheese croissant because
I think it is the best. But they've also got
breakfast sandwiches where the bun is French toast. They've got
just your typical sausage, egg and cheese, biscuits. They've got

(10:38):
breakfast tacos and again now biscuits and gravy. So a
lot of good options when it comes to breakfast. But
they've got whatever you need to stay fueled for the
day ahead. At least I believe that's the case, And
if not, then I'd reevaluate some things if I were you.
It's just the way I see it, all right. I've
been a busy morning so far, and the Louisville football
game on Friday night. I was happy that it was
a Friday night game to where I could just turn

(10:58):
the page and forget about it on Saturday with doing
busy stuff with the family because uh, I guess if
there is a silver lining, most people on Saturdays for
a college football game, it's a big investment of your
time because games last forever. If you go to the games,
you probably want to tailgate to an extent and it
can just take up a lot of your time. And
when your team lets you down, that's that's that's it.

(11:21):
That's you know, that's that's what you don't want. So
it was Friday got it out of the way, and
really Friday night closed the door on Louisville's season when
it comes to expectations that were that were that were
set realistically, and not only were those expectations will within reach.
I mean it was right there. If you just don't

(11:43):
if you don't screw up, and nobody's asking anybody to
be perfect, because that's that's ridiculous. But if Louisville just
kind of got out of their own way, they would
be sitting with a chance to play for potentially, I
mean to not only a chance, but you you be
in the ACC title game, you'd maybe be safely in
the college football playoff. And yet you now really don't

(12:06):
have a whole lot to play for other than just
salvaging what's left and avoiding an upset loss to your
rival at the end of the season. And I think
football college football specifically has taught me over the years
that every season can't be defined by just the amount
of games you win and you lose. And what I

(12:27):
mean by that is you're always going to be defined
by your record, but not every record is the same story.
You can get to an end of a twelve game
season and consider those season's movies. You can get to
the end of a twelve game season and be nine
and three, and it be drastically different as far as

(12:50):
how you feel, because Louisville could Let's say Louisvill ends
the season nine in three, that's best case scenario now
because they have three losses. So it'd be hard for
me to look at Louisvill football overall and say a
nine to three season is not successful, because come on,
that's there haven't been that many nine win regular or

(13:11):
nine win regular season seasons that for this program in
the history. So again, sounds foolish to say, well, it's
a bad year if that's the case. But let's also
be real, you easily could have been I mean Louisville
right now, could be ten and oh, and they're put
it this way, this is a good way to put

(13:32):
it in perspective. Louisville could be ten and oh. You
could still find people that would claim, yeah, I don't
know how good they are who they beat? What what
have they done? Because you beat the team that everybody
thought was going to be the biggest challenge for you,
and that was at Miami. But yet you somehow lose
to Virginia where you fall in overtime and you end

(13:54):
up giving them fourteen points for free. And then against
another situation that if you just you know, you had
it there and you couldn't hold on to win. Despite
that duo quarterback and receiver duo for cal Louivill still
was in a position to win, and then they screwed
up and made the avoidable mistake. They made mistakes that

(14:16):
the team didn't have any impact on. Meaning it's not like, well,
what are you gonna do? Man, you had a chance
in really good defense there, or hey, you were in
good spot defensively, but that team just made a play. No,
you just had a goof that like was avoidable and
you and you lost. Same thing happened on Friday that
became a game down the stretch. If you're watching without
rooting interest between Louisville and Clemson, you're thinking, man, who

(14:36):
wants to lose this one more? Because the big mistake
you couldn't make if you want to hold on to win,
each team seemed to make. But Louisville, of course made
made more of those, and it's just it's frustrating. I
think Jeff Brohm for the first time, is receiving criticism
at a level that is higher than it's ever been.

(14:59):
I don't think that you're seeing people out there realistically
claiming I mean, I don't think anybody's going to say
the louivel should make a coaching change. I know. Look,
I know the world of lunatics and sports. That's where
I come from, that's my background. But anybody doing that
is just, I mean, it's nonsense. Louisvell's not making any
coaching change, nor should they. But there's now, I think,
for some an uncomfortable level of criticism because Jeff's our guy.

(15:21):
I don't think anybody's got a chance to take this
program to higher levels than he himself, Jeff Brohm. But
right now you've got two straight years where you know,
you're you're looking at seasons that if you just don't
make the avoidable mistake, I'm sorry if you Yeah, if
you just avoid which should be a pretty avoidable mistake,

(15:45):
you're sitting pretty and you couldn't do that. I mean,
this is this is where they've been the last two weeks,
back to back games. Late in the fourth quarter. Let's
go to cal Cal has an eighteen yard punt to
the fifty yard line. It's a tie game. Louisville somehow
couldn't hold on to win because of penalties that back
them up. They just put them in a spot to
where they couldn't do it. And then cap I mean Clemson,

(16:07):
they dropped the punt. Louisville gets the ball on their
own twenty three yard line down, one easy setup to
win the game, couldn't do it. They go backwards with
penalties that again are just things you shouldn't do. So again,
they may finish nine to three, and I'd have a
hard time telling you failure of a season. But we
can also consider context that, Hey, if you just don't

(16:30):
lose to teams that you really should have won without
even playing that great, you'd be in a much different situation.
And what's unfortunate is that this is now two straight
seasons where you're saying that, and that's again, if anything,
just not a good look for Jeff Brown. All right,
quick break, let's get a trapping weather update as we
roll along here. It's news Radio eight forty whas it

(16:51):
is six forty eight here at news Radio eight forty
whas gonna be a rather cool Monday afternoon. It's really
dependent upon the sunshine. When we get to the fifties,
the upper fifties, for sure. If it's not sunny, it
can be chilly. I mean, it's not brutal. In fact,
it's actually not really that cold in the grand scheme
of things. But when it's sunny and you've got those temperatures,

(17:12):
it's much more pleasant. That was I think a good
chunk of yesterday. We were out and about enjoying a
nice Sunday on my wife's birthday, and when we were
in areas where the sun was on us, it's perfect,
you know, hoodie hoodie weather. But if we got into
the shade and that wind started whipping, pretty chilly out there.
But the rain is coming tomorrow, so I feel like
we've been hearing about this rain that was on the way,

(17:33):
and it sounds like tomorrow is the expected arrival. But
today should stay pretty dry and again fairly warm. Anytime
you can get close to sixty. For those that hate
cold weather, I think you should. You should count your
days because there'll be days where sixty is a real
rarity once we get to the dead heat of winter.
So just he advised today not rain, Tomorrow pretty wet,

(17:55):
and you know we'll keep you updated throughout the morning.
That's what we do, trapping weather updates every ten minutes.
And also I want to tell you guys about my
friends over at Jefferson Animal Hospital. And I know a
lot of you listening are pet owners. And I'm sure
you know this because they've been doing it for a
long long time. We're talking forty years. But Jefferson Animal
Hospital they have the only twenty four to seven, three

(18:18):
hundred and sixty five days. I mean, they're the only
place you can get that type of care for your pets.
And I would be willing to bet that a lot
of pet owners that are listening right now have been
in a situation where an emergency happens and this is
when they learn, oh okay, this is this is this
is my option, and it's a great option, by the way,
because that's how they've that's how they've developed such a

(18:39):
great reputation in this in this community for helping folks
when it comes to pets. But it's not just emergencies.
It's routine care from major trauma or routine checkups day
or night. They're ready, So check them out. Go to
Jefferson Vets dot com. They've got two locations, one on
Outer Loop in Oklahoma there and the other that is
in Fern Creek, and they're there for you. And it's

(18:59):
not just the emergency situations as I mentioned, I mean
things that you may not even realize are are needed
when it comes to keeping your pets healthy and keeping
them safe. I mean, they have a pet blood bank
where your pets can donate blood and help keep other
pets alive. You can get a diagnostic exam for your pet,
wellness and preventative care, pet dental care, pain management for

(19:22):
your pets, and of course something that nobody wants to
think about, but it is a real thing, end of
life care. So again it is Jefferson Animal Hospital. Give
them a call. FABO too. Nine hundred pets or check
them out online at Jefferson Vets dot com. All right,
trafficking weather updates on the way once again. Also another
sports update Louis of basketball Man. They look good the
other day against Ohio. That was a performance that reminded

(19:46):
me just what kind of options Pat Kelsey has when
it comes to lineups. Now, Ohio not a team that
is going to challenge you like Cincinnati will on Friday,
which is their next game. But so far, so good
for Pat Kelsey in year two. Here a right, let'
get to a quick update. Don't go anywhere, stick with

Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
