Speaker 1 (00:00):
I guess we're not far from somebody wanted to show
off their brand new car they got and then they say, yeah,
got it on Amazon. Sounds weird, right, But I guess
in the grand scheme of things, that shouldn't be a
real surprise, because we get a lot of things online now,
but a vehicle is something that is going to seem

(00:22):
weird until it doesn't, until it's just how Yeah, everybody
gets their vehicles online, they deliver them to your house.
I mean, I don't think that's in the near future.
None of us really know, but maybe we shouldn't be
shouldn't be surprised. I mean, Amazon does sell everything, and
now they're going to be able to sell you a
car because of this the story that you just heard
there from John Shannon Ford has started listing their certified

(00:44):
pre owned vehicles, the EVS included by the way, right
on Amazon Autos, you can browse a dealer's inventory, check
the price, look at the service history, set up financing,
and then schedule pick up at the dealership, all without
leaving the Amazon website. So it's basically forward plugging into
the ad to cart world that a lot of us
live in online and also there's still going to be

(01:08):
warranties associated with it. So whatever makes things convenient for
the customer to where they're they're they're giving you business.
I guess that's that's what you'll do. So, yeah, it's
Ford in Amazon partnering here, and it's certified pre owned
Ford vehicles that are going to be that are going
to be available. So it starts in La Seattle and Dallas,

(01:28):
with more cities to follow. So it's the same Ford
dealer inventory, but it's just now on Amazon, so customers
will get all the info that you would expect to
get when you're looking at purchasing a vehicle. I just
have a hard time thinking this becoming routine. But there's
a lot of things that are now routine in society
that I probably would have been reluctant to embrace and

(01:52):
just thought, yeah, that's not going to catch on, right.
I mean, John, you're gonna buy your next vehicle from
from Amazon.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
I have bought a vehicle in general since I think
I was still in high school when I got the
camera that I'm driving now, and I'm going to ride
this thing out as long as I can. I can't
see me using Amazon.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
It's kind of an awesome feeling because you and I
were both in the same spot. I haven't had my
car nearly as long as you, but it's paid off
and it gets me from point A to point B.
I've never been materialistic really with anything, but especially vehicles.
If I had a you know, if I had a
car that was viewed as maybe a hideous one but

(02:31):
it was comfortable for me, it got me from point
A to point B, had enough room for me and
the family, I think I'd be fine with it. So, yeah,
I'm not in the market for any vehicle or anything
like that, but if I was, I just I'm not
anti technology by any means. I'm all about convenience, and
this sounds as convenient as possible, but it would just

(02:53):
be I don't know, man, anything i'll order online, there's
always there's always a hint of like not really knowing
what you're going to get and wondering if I mean
to me, there's there's still some level of risk when
I order something online, and I don't really know why
that's the case because it's pretty convenient, and if you
end up ordering something and it's not what you want
it or it's defective, you can usually return it. But

(03:14):
I bet in ten years this is maybe not the
new norm, but it'll be a big part of how
people people purchase things.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I'm somebody who would want to test drive the car.
I'm sure with this situation, of course do that.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, I mean maybe when you when you arrive, Like,
here's my thing. The online process, I guess that's getting
a lot of the legwork out of the way. But
the scenario where you just walk in and pick it
up after you've ordered it, no way, that's not still
going to be a timely sign papers, go over stuff

(03:47):
like so if I still have to do some of that,
I don't even want to go through the online stuff,
you know what I mean? Yeah, Like for me, I
would reference it like I already would anyway, go to
the website of this dealership, look at what I can see,
and then go in knowing that I've got all the
info that's possible from online. Now we're letting me test

(04:08):
drive it, and then we'll talk potential financing if that's
if that's needed and whatnot. So I guess just offering
it is I mean, if you can make it work,
why not, right if you get a few more sales
a month. Because of this, people appreciate the convenience, then
there's no reason not to do it. But it's one
of those things. I still think it's such a big
purchase for people that the thought of just pulling out

(04:30):
that Amazon app and adding it to the cart, it
just sounds it just sounds really really weird.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
But here's the other thing, though. People don't like to
deal with pushy car salesman, and this probably eliminates that
almost completely, I would imagine, correct.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I think that mindset is. I bet as soon as
this story came up, there are people who thought, oh wow,
that's if I can avoid that, then maybe I would
be more willing to at least consider getting myself in
a newer vehicle. But I just have a hard time
thinking that they'll ever be a scenario where you could
order it online and there's still not be a level

(05:04):
of you needing to like just not hassle, but just
the process.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
I mean, I haven't bought many cars in my life,
but it's always been a and I've had great service.
It's not as if like it's been an issue, but
like it's just a process with paperwork and all that,
and you would think that the online option would avoid it,
but I just I'll believe it when I see it.
All right, let's get to a traffic and weather update.
We're off to a cold and wet start here on

(05:29):
a Tuesday, and that could of course cast some issues
on the roadway. So Bobby Ellis will get us updated
throughout the morning. Matt Melosovich has the forecast again, cold
and rainy. That is what we are expecting today, So
be advised, don't go anywhere, keep it locked right here

(05:50):
we are fueled by Thornton's. Make sure you sign up

twenty cents off per gallon once per week. So again,
Refreshment Awards dot com. That's the website, download the app.
You'll be happy that you did. All right. So a
Texas official has Texas City official, i should say, has
resigned after he made national news last week for sending

(06:13):
threatening messages to a college football coach who was our
own Jeff Brahm who received threatening messages to him, threats
to himself his family, and also quarterback Miller Moss was
involved in that. And Brian Mandel is the guy's name
who was indicted on seven charges, including six counts of

(06:34):
terroristic threatening. And this of course was after Louisville's overtime
loss to cal So Mendel. I guess, not your typical
degenerate gambler. He's somebody that is from Corpus Christi, Texas
and he was the vice chair of the Corpus Christie
Planning Commission, a role he'd had since twenty twenty, a
role that he has now resigned from. Looks like his

(06:57):
resignation was submitted three days after after this incident. So
he was arraigned last week, endered a not guilty plea,
and the court restrictions no alcohol, no gambling, no contact
with the victim. I would say that confirms what really
hasn't been confirmed yet. So maybe it's unofficially confirming that

(07:19):
he's he's owning up to it. And I mean, this
is wild. This guy saw the news that he'd been
he'd been indicted, and yet he he didn't know yet
news like it being a headline is how he found
out about it, so he got on a plane and
came to Kentucky to get himself out of this mess.
And my assumption here is that with those restrictions handed

(07:42):
down by the judge, he's saying that I was drunk
and I lost a bet and I lost my mind. Paraphrasing,
of course, but sounds like that's that's the direction that
he went. And Brahm didn't didn't at all address this
and giving any details, but did just say that the
threat came in as a is a direct message, a

(08:03):
direct message on his phone and went on to say
that he's not he's not bothered by threats necessarily to
come towards him, but when it comes to his family,
a much different situation, as as you could expect, I
would say most would be with that would have that
same mindset. So Brian Mandel probably not a name that
people are gonna remember for a long time, but it

(08:25):
does seem as if this this this is the first
of its kind where people losing bets, losing their mind
on the Internet, probably assuming that that nobody will ever
find out who they are. It's just the toxic world
that is the Internet. But sometimes you're gonna make examples
out of people for good reason. And this guy, he

(08:47):
learned the hard way what happens when you do things
like this. All right, quick update of trafficking weather on
the way. We've got another sports update on the way
as well. Again, going to be chilly and wet this morning,
probably gonna be low fifties, that's the highest. So again
be prepared for that, and again be prepared to get wet,
or I guess more than anything, be prepared to try

(09:08):
to stay dry because it's gonna rain all day. It
looks like keep it locked right. Here it's News Radio

(09:31):

And when that happens, you're going to want to know

it comes to fighting for what you deserve for being
made whole. And I can tell you you'll find nobody
better than Alex and his team at Alex R. White Pllc. Again,
check them out online at Sudistracted driver dot com. Alex
going to be stopping bottled later on and chatting with us.

(09:53):
Looking forward to that in about an hour. All right,
So the airports are back on schedule, which what does
that really mean? Right? I mean, every day there's things
that are on schedule, but keeping things to remain with
the schedule that was set, that's always just to roll
the dice. It's really just it comes down to luck.

(10:13):
So it is good news. It's not as if we've
got the ten to twenty percent reduction in flights available
because of the shutdown. So this is positive, but I
just I give you a very very questionable grin whenever
I hear that back on schedule, as if every day
at an airport there's not big time schedule changes that

(10:35):
you have no control over and you just go with
whatever luck you end up you end up getting. So again,
those flight reductions have been lifted as of yesterday morning,
and so let's talk about compensation. So the Trump administration
aded regulations that made airlines pay compensation after extended delays,
So now passe passengers have no formal leverage, no automatic

(10:59):
reimburse no mandated vouchers. You know, airlines can go back
to simply choosing to be nice, which has always just
been again a roll of the dice. I know I've
said it many times, why not say it once more?
An airport seems to me to be one of the
more helpless places one can be. I'm sure you can
find examples of somewhere where maybe there's even less control,

(11:22):
and it for no roalm or reason, not to say
that that they're they're canceling your flight just because they
want to. But when I say no rom or reason,
it's just there's no there's there's no way you have
any feel for what you should expect. Now, I guess
if you've got you've got really bad weather, you're going
to go in knowing that some weather could could delay

(11:43):
some things and cause issues. But it's just whatever happens happens,
and you just go sit at the airport bar and
and and and ride it out until until you can
actually get on your plane and leave. So I will
admit I did not realize that the Trump administration had
made it to where airlines are gonna have to pay
compensation for some of the issues that took place during

(12:07):
the shutdown. So it's back to the airlines just kind
of deciding whatever they're going to do based on what
they feel. Oh yeah, your flight's canceled and we don't
have another one out of here for three days. Here's
a twenty five dollars coupon of the best Western Enjoy
our fond city. We'll see in a few days. I mean,

(12:28):
that's the type of I'm using. This is an exaggeration,
certainly a hypothetical, but I don't know if that scenario
is really that wild. I bet there are people listening
right now that have actually had a worse scenario than that,
where they didn't get any type of compensation. Oh yeah, sorry,
flight's canceled. Best we can do is get you. We'll

(12:49):
get you on a flight out of here five days
business days, so yeah, next week. Again, hypothetical exaggeration, but
I'm not really sure how much of an exaggeration it
actually it actually is. I say this as someone who
has been very fortunate. I've never had any real big
issues with an airline where when it comes to just

(13:11):
some of the nightmare experiences that I know some people
have had, and sometimes it's not even about your flight
getting canceled or delayed switching planes. Sometimes it's just like
I see enough videos that seem to surface every day
of somebody losing their mind on an airplane, being drunk,
having to you know, sometimes they got to make an
emergency landing, or they just they won't take off, they

(13:34):
have to deboard the entire plane because somebody's drunk and
won't just get off the plane and realize they need
to just take the elf of the day. So I
haven't had any experience like that. In fact, I've never
even seen an unruly passenger at an airline, So I
guess I'm on the lucky side. But I guess the
worst for me is we did get on a plane
and sit for an hour once only to then have

(13:56):
to get off the plane and then wait like another
hour or so for them to do something, and that
was not convenient. We did, in fact, lose a good
chunk of what was supposed to be our first day
on a trip. But if that's the worst that's happened
to me in my time traveling, I'd say I'm probably
doing a little better than others as far as just
some of the other issues that can happen. And look,

(14:20):
it's part of it. When you consider what we're talking about,
you know, traveling via airplane and the amount of people
that do it, and the amount of regulations and things
that have to be done before one can actually take off,
makes sense that there could be some hiccups along the way.
But it just with it being completely out of your control,
it's such a helpless feeling. All right, let's get to

(14:41):
a quick update of traffic and weather. We'll talk a
little more about what JCPS plans to do, because they've
got a plan, folks, they've got a budget nightmare, to
put it lightly on their hands. And the new doctor,
the new superintendent, doctor Yearwood, he said he didn't know
what he inherited as far as the mess they're in financially,
but he's the guy that's responsible for getting it cleaned up.
And I wish him the best of luck, I really do,

(15:03):
because that is a nightmare that he has no factor
in it being that way, right, he just inherited it,
all right, quick update trapping a weather right here in
news radio A forty whs. So we have some accidents
causing some issues this morning. It is a cold and
wet star been raining seemingly all morning, at least a
little bit. Sometimes it's it's picked up some momentum and

(15:26):
that's the expectation throughout the morning. So right now we've
got at it looks like we've we've got a handful
of accidents. We've got at I two sixty four East
that is a near Virginia Avenue. It looks as if
there is a crash causing some issues, but the it's
tough to see just the real extent of the backup

(15:48):
right now. Also at I sixty five North, that is
as you are approaching Broadway, it looks like the right
shoulder is blocked because of an accident. And then also
you've got a disabled vehicle causing some issues. That is
near seventy one. So, yeah, be mindful of the roadways
this morning. It's it's not guaranteed to happen, but it

(16:11):
certainly seems more likely to happen. Whenever we have wet
roadways that there's some accidents. So if you need to
leave a little earlier than usual, I would recommend. Actually,
you may need to do that, given the fact that
it looks as if sixty five man at seventy one
there's some Yes, it's seventy one North. It looks as
if there's there's an issue. That's yeah, seventy one North
near Zorn Avenue. There's a backup that actual, I'm sorry,

(16:34):
that's construction. So that's a backup, but it's not not
due to any crash. But yeah, be careful. It's it's
wet and it's cold, and that is likely to stay
the case for the next couple of hours. All right,
let's talk about my friends over at Track County Forward
right now, they have never had a better deal that
I can think of, especially in my time partnering with

(16:55):
the fine folks at Track County Forward. Because right now
you can get the brand new twenty twenty five Ford
f one fifty or the brand new twenty twenty five
Ford Explorer with no interest. Thinking about that zero percent
zero percent you heard me right, zero percent in financing.
I mean again, that's something that should incentivize you to realize, Hey,

(17:18):
I've wanted to get myself in a newer vehicle. This
is this is the way to do it. So again
we're talking zero percent financing for sixty months and no
payment for sixty days, So again take advantage of that.
They've got a great selection of brand new forwards out there.
They're just outside of Louisville Exit eighteen off I seventy one.
Tell them I sent you. You won't face any pushy salesman.

(17:41):
It'll be a comfortable process to answer all the questions
you have. Of course, I'll let you, let you get
a test drive, and no better time than now. Again,
zero percent financing on the twenty twenty five Ford F
one fifty and the twenty twenty five Ford Explorer, and
again no payments for up to sixty days, so again
take advantage. It's my friends over at track any foward,
just outside Louisville Exit eighteen and Oldham County off of

(18:02):
US seventy one. All right, quick update of trabick in weather.
I did a pretty pretty poor job of describing the
issues on the roadways. We'll leave it to the pro
that's Bobby Ellis. He'll get us caught up on that
in just a moment. Sports as well, coming up on
the other side right here, A news Radio eight forty

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
