Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, Kentucky, Ina, Thank you for joining us. It
is coffee and company and we are fueled by Thornton's
here at News Radio eight forty whas. It has been
a busy week, a heavy week, and it is coming
to an end. But this story, this situation, I should say,
from Tuesday, will be with us forever and certainly something
that we monitor for a while until there's full closure.

(00:23):
Now I suppose full closure can be however you see it.
The actual NTSB investigation wrapping up case closed, that's going
to take a long time. So again there's levels to closure,
I suppose. But finding out where all those that are

(00:44):
still unaccounted for where they are are they going to
be able to be identified. And you would hope that
everyone that is missing, I mean you hope that some
that are missing. It's not what these family members are fearing,
but clearly the worry and concern and really just the
belief on their end. I don't know how I would

(01:07):
process it. None of us would ever know unless we
were in this situation, and god, I hope I never am.
But there's going to be layers and levels to the closure.
But I think just accounting for all those that are missing,
that that's going to be a big part of this,
and how long that could take is completely unknown. And
I'm sure there's a lot of this that you try

(01:29):
not to think about because of just how tragic it is,
how sad, and also just how graphic it could be.
But the ability to identify some of these missing individuals
is far from easy given what we know took place
with the fire, and just I haven't seen it up close,
and I don't want to see it up close, but
hearing from those that have, from Andy V. Sheheer, Greg Greenberg,

(01:53):
Morgan McGarvey, I mean, I don't think they were laying
it on for effect to be dramatic. I think you
could just visual the visual of them, the body language
shifting as they process in front of a camera and
a microphone. Telling people what they experienced. I mean, I
can imagine it was awful, and some of these folks,

(02:15):
just because of the nature of what they do, they've
seen some awful stuff. So we'll keep you updated, but
right now, no change since we started this morning, and
probably no change since last night if you were somebody
keeping up at this towards the end of the evening.
But there's a total of thirteen that we now know
that have lost their lives, and there are nine that

(02:36):
are unaccounted for. And one thing that I've mentioned throughout
the morning here and there is just the waiting and
how that just must be absolute torture because it's not
a coincidence. If you've yet to hear from somebody that
you typically talk to, maybe on a daily basis, maybe

(02:59):
it's somebody you work with, maybe it's somebody you live with,
and if you have not heard from them since this,
since the plane crash, and you have a good idea,
or maybe you just know they were in the area,
maybe you've already come to grips with it and accepted
it and you're dealing with that grieving process as best

(03:21):
you can. Everybody's different and nobody knows how they would
respond unless they were in that situation. So what I've
picked up on is just some of the family members
that are posting things on Facebook, and it's always tough
to get full contact with just a Facebook post. But
I sense a level of hope and belief that it's
not what they fear and what they deep down may know,

(03:42):
And I think that's strength. Some would say, well, you
should just go ahead and accept it. You're setting yourself
up for it being even worse because you need to
just go ahead and come to grips with it. And
maybe some people are, but I think it's easy to
just assume that you know what you would do, you
know how you would handle it if you were in

(04:04):
that situation, because very few ever will be and you
have no clue what you would do. And I don't
want to insinuate that there's family members of these potential
victims that are unaccounted for, that are completely sharing a
level of delusion that they don't believe that there's any
scenario where it could be their loved one that was
a victim. Here, it's just that hope that you can,

(04:27):
as much as you can, you can pull from somebody's
Facebook post or Instagram post, and I found that it
just humanizes this entire situation even more, which we're all humans, right,
And because of that, it's just human instinct to process
these things from the outside looking in and try to
imagine how you would be impacted by it. And this week,

(04:49):
for me, it's just been a real reminder that I
hope I never know and I have no clue what
life would be like for me if I was somebody
just waiting to get some closure from from those responsible
for identifying these victims. So again, we'll update you as
soon as there's any new information. I would expect we'll

(05:10):
get another update from Mayor Greenberg at some point. He's
been everywhere. And I say this with one thousand percent sincerity.
I would say this if I didn't know Craig Greenberg.
But I think leadership really really shows in situations like this,
and I think he's done a phenomenal job at handling

(05:31):
this as best you can, which with what is such
a tragic situation. So I mean, he's really highlighted something
that I think we should emphasize more in this city.
Certainly no better time to emphasize it than now, because
you are seeing a tragic situation like this, how it
can bring people together. And his social media team they

(05:51):
put together a video that, in fact, I'm sorry, they
shared a video on Mayor Greenberg's Twitter account that just
shows the outpouring of support that you see at these vigils,
at the locations that are set up to provide assistance
to those who survive but their place of employment is

(06:11):
still closed or maybe it's destroyed. So again, heavy heavy
week and we've tried today to get back to normal
as best we can, but this will continue to be
something we monitor for a while and that's just the
nature of what it is. All right, We've got a
quick time outcoming your way, so stick around eight thirty five.
Roy O'Neil's going to join us. We'll talk about the

(06:32):
government shut down and how it's potentially going to really
really impact air travel like it never has before. Also
the weight loss drugs that have become super popular and
super effective, they're now going to become once again more affordable.
It sounds so again Royo join us, coming up here soon.
Stick around. It is News Radio eight forty whas Happy Friday, everybody.

(06:54):
The rain is I don't know if it's here right
now because I'm in a studio where I can't see
any thing but the beautiful, beautiful set up here at
four Street Live. But I know we're expected to get
some rain today, so be advised, and it could be
some storms with that, so stay safe out. There been
a busy, busy, heavy week and the last thing we
need is you know, rain to start the weekend. But

(07:17):
all things consider, that's not that big of a deal.
But again, stay safe everybody, and we'll have another weather
update coming for you before too long, and Bobby Allis
will keep us caught up on the traffic. I have
not necessarily followed the issues on the roadways as much
as I typically do this morning, but that's okay because
again we've got we've got somebody that can they can,
they can do that for us, and he does a
great job. That's Bobby Allis. So your next update traving

(07:38):
and weather is coming up here shortly. All right, So
right now, I'm sure if you are somebody that has
been looking to put your home on the market, or
maybe you have been looking to find at home that
you want to put an offer in, maybe first time buyer,
maybe just want to get out of your house. I
guarantee you that you have for a while put it

(07:59):
off because you're fearful of timing not being on your side.
And what I mean by that is you just assume, well, hey,
market's crazy, it's not convenient for the buyer or the seller.
I'm going to wait. That's understandable. But two things. One,
interest rates are adjusting to where it's now a little
bit more of an attractive thing to do more convenient.

(08:19):
But also don't let that coverage, even if it is
legitimate facts, don't let that scare you from taking advantage
of one maybe just maybe benefiting from the market where
you can make a lot of money on your home.
Or if you find a dream home and you're worried
about maybe not the price, but just the interest rates.

(08:43):
What Bob always says, and he's right, You date the
interest rates, you take that on a date, you marry
the home, and you can get in a home and
you can take advantage and strike when timing is on
your side to maybe get a better rate. So if
you know, you know when it comes to the home
that you want to buy. And I just encourage you

(09:04):
to trust Bob Sicola and his team at Remax Properties
East because they can guide you through that right. They
can tell you everything you need to know and what
you shouldn't be afraid of that you might be afraid
of just because of the coverage of the real estate industry.
And they're also going to know how to target the
right people to put your home in front of. They're

(09:25):
going to target not only those people, but they know
how to target them as far as what matters, what
stands out, what's going to get the phone ring in
for Bob and its team Because there's interest from people
that want to make an offer. So trust the experts,
and there's no better expert than Bob and its team
at the the Colar team at Remax Properties East. Go
to we sell Louisville dot Com. You'll get all the

(09:46):
info you need. You can call Bob directly on his
direct line and reach out to him at any times.
That's the commitment that he has to his clients. And
if you go through this process buying or selling with
Bob Wants, maybe it's your first home you're buying, you're
fresh out of college, You'll never go with anybody else
because that's the attention to detail that you get from

(10:08):
Bob and his team. So again, we sell little of
dot comments the Cecola team at Remax Properties East. All right,
we've got another update of trafficking weather on the way.
Also back with another sports update. A big sports weekend
is upon us. A lot going on, but I know
I'm not the only one that has shifted the majority
of my attention to next Tuesday, just a few days

(10:29):
from now. Whenever we see Louisville and Kentucky play at
the YOUM Center first time. Pat Kelsey gets to host
in this rivalry matchup. So that's on my mind more
than it should be. But anyways, we'll take a quick
time out stick with us right here at news Radio
eight forty whas it is our final segment of the
week and what has been a very very very busy,
hectic week and a heavy week, and I'm ready for

(10:50):
the weekend. I don't know about you, guys, John Shannon
with me here in studio, and I'll admit it, I'm
going to drink some boothe this weekend. Okay. Yeah, So
there was a study slash Survey that came out a
while back that said that drinking people aren't drinking as
much as they used to and that it was tied
to the younger generation. I guess finding different ways to

(11:11):
catch a buzz. And I didn't question that because you know,
there are ways in which you can have you know,
you can let your hair down if you will, and
it doesn't include alcohol. You can get a hangover free
type of buzz with CBD products that kind of stuff,
and look, it's a real thing that is growing. So
I thought that maybe that was part of it, but
we now have a new a new report that kind

(11:33):
of debunks what was said, John, is that younger Americans
aren't cutting back on alcohol like you initially thought, especially
during holiday seasons. So a recent poll of two thousand
Americans found seventy seven percent of adults twenty one to
forty four plan to drink the same or more this
holiday season. Nearly eighty percent of drinkers say they have
alcohol at least once a week. Sixty four admit they

(11:54):
drink more during the holidays than any other time of year.
That's what I was going to ask you, is is
the holiday season as we're getting set for Thanksgiving just
a few weeks away, and of course Christmas will be
here before you know it. I don't do it with intent,
but I do just because of everything that comes with
the holidays. I've probably put more booze in me during
these two months than any other time this year.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah. Yeah, And it's you know, the colder weather factors
into it, and you know that sense of alcohol warming
you up. It just you know, relaxes you a little
bit because it's the holidays can be a tense time
for people, but you know, I'll admit when I start,
when I put the turkey in the oven, or I
put the spiral ham in the oven on Thanksgiving Day
at like ten o'clock in the morning. As soon as
it's in there and the oven door is closed, I've

(12:37):
got a tradition where I cracked my first crown and
coke of the holiday season, you know, right right there,
part of the.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Process, right part of the celebration. We have mimosas on
Christmas morning, after we open presents, the wife cooks a
nice Christmas breakfast. It's become sort of our own little
family tradition, and I look forward to it. Also, though
mimosas are dangerous.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Oh yes, I mean it means stealth drink.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Yeah, it's one that'll sneak up on you if you're
not careful. And I've learned that the hard way on
chris On. By the time we make our third, our
third stop throughout the busy day, I realize man at
Mimosa had a little more on it than I thought.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Sit Christmas. Yeah, it's all about pacing yourself.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
No doubt about it. So again I'll enjoy, but of
course responsibly like you, like we all should. This weekend,
and man, I'm looking forward to this weekend. Not that
I haven't enjoyed everything this week, but a heavy week,
no doubt, big week for the city of Louisville. And
we'll have more for you throughout the day here at
news Radio eight forty whas obviously Tony and Dwight coming
your way next and of course Terry later in the afternoon,

(13:36):
So any anything that develops will have it for you.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
And don't forget there's a vigil tonight on the Great
Lawn at Waterfront Park starting at seven pm for the
victims of Flight twenty nine to seventy six.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Good to know. Have a good weekend, everybody,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
