Speaker 1 (00:00):
Chad Brendel joins us every single Thursday to talk about
the Bearcats. Bearcatjournal.com is a UC media empire. UC at
West Virginia in football. Bearcat basketball hosting Illinois on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We'll talk about both with our guy, Chad. How's it going?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
One second.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
I'm trying to decide if I kick or take the
ball in overtime.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Oh, you're as addicted as I am now, aren't you?
A two-minute drill, huh?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I'm just now starting to tinker with it. Yes, I
don't need more things in my life to distract me.
I don't need more things to make me less productive.
I don't need more reasons to be.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
On my phone. And this morning I found one, and
I'm addicted, and.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Uh, I, I feel bad for anybody who's in my
company over the next week or so, because this is
all I'm going to be doing.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Things like this are bad for people like us that
have attention deficit problems as it is.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
So it just, it makes it much worse.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
And this time of year, now that we're getting into,
you know, crossover season, I don't have any free time.
You're going to work 14 hours on my birthday, Mo.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I understand. I understand.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
What's 49 like?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
It's okay. It's a lot like 48. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
The big one's next year for both of us.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
It is.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah. It's a big one on Saturday for Scott Satterfield.
Cool transition by me, right? They have to win this
game on Saturday, right?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I mean, have to like, yes, it, If not, you're
looking at a very real five-game losing streak in the
middle of a gotta-have-it season.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
There's very little.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
When you look at Texas Tech, Utah, and Houston, all
three have great run defenses.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Right. Great run defenses.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
West Virginia is one of the worst defenses in college football.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Power five, power.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Six, FCS, NAIA. Like, they are terrible defensively. You've got
to figure out.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
A way to win this game.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
How do they win this game?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
My confidence level in them stopping Michael Hawkins and Cam
Cook is pretty low. And that means that you're going
to be in a shootout. You're going to be in
a game where your offense really can't. leave anything on
the field because you're looking, I would think at a
game in the, in the upper thirties, lower forties, probably.
They just haven't given me any reason to feel like

(02:58):
the offense is capable in a gotta have it situation
to go out and perform like that.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I just want to see JC friends try to throw
the ball downfield. We've joked about this. Like if you
throw a pick, you throw a pick, like we'll, we'll
move on. We'll live with it. We'll figure out a
way to overcome it. I just, I, I just, I,
I wish he wasn't as gun shy. Like people talk
about like, how good is he? I don't know because
I can't see it unless you're willing to heave it.

(03:26):
And he just seems so unwilling to heave it.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Well, is that because he's unwilling or because he's told
not to? I think that's the, the ultimate question here, right? Like,
are you unwilling or are you being told? And look,
maybe that went out the window, the, the Arizona game,
because at four and Oh, it's working right. And then
you saw what it looked like when it wasn't worth

(03:50):
working and it looked terrible. So the thing is, Mo,
the couple of times we've seen him throw a deep ball,
he throws a pretty good deep ball.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I mean, yes. Like, I mean, is it Jeff Blake?

Speaker 3 (04:11):
No.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Can it get there?

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
And I don't, I'm not expecting.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Him to throw it 45 times in a close game.
It's just when he does go to throw, I find
myself silently.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Going, throw it, get rid of it, throw it. And
he does.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Could you imagine at some point he's going to have to.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Could you imagine if, if the Bengals quarterback only threw
to wide receivers that were wide open?

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Oh, well, He'd never let go of the ball. He'd
just hang out in the pocket all day.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Maybe he'd develop a Malik Willis hat to Pat.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
That's right. Yes.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I listened to the show.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I had tip. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
So the thing about doing the two minute drill and,
and like, you know, distracting me is it's taken me
away from seeing if there's another Supreme court.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Ruling executive order.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
If this is going to some tribunal somewhere, uh, Will
MJ Collins play on Saturday? Let's just start there. Will
he play against Illinois in the exhibition game on Saturday?

Speaker 3 (05:20):
I believe so.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Yeah, I think he will play on Saturday because there
is a court ruling. Executive orders don't hold a lot
of teeth in terms of you could play him, but
the NCAA could still punish you for playing him. What's
in place now is if you don't play him, we're
going to punish you.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
So....

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I would think you're going to see him playing on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Aside from seeing MJ Collins make his UC debut, give
me one or two things you're looking forward to seeing
from the Bearcats against the Illini.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
It doesn't answer that question.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I'm excited to watch Illinois play. I loved their team
last year.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I mean, they were the number two team in offensive efficiency.
They run good stuff. They have really skilled, really talented players.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
I was going to say, like, real hardcore hoop heads
love Brad Underwood.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, for a good reason.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
And apparently they're going to more dribble drive this year
because of their new guards. They're playing a little bit
more downhill and being a little bit more aggressive attacking
the rim. I'm really excited to watch Illinois play. I
want to see what Tylan Riley looks like against Illinois
because he was awesome against Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
He's been awesome.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
There have been times in practice where you're just like,
you can't keep him out of the lane. You can't
keep him from getting where he wants to go. And
that carried over into the first exhibition. I'm interested to
see how it carries over into the second exhibition. The
other thing that is fascinating probably maybe my biggest thing

(07:10):
is I, I'm not certain this is going to be
a really good rebounding team, but.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
They kind of kicked Ohio state's butt on the glass.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
And I want to see what that looks like against
a much bigger, much more physical Illinois team.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Five o'clock on Saturday, UC football at noon on Saturday,
all of it covered at bearcatjournal.com. Have you, have you
completed a game on two minute drill? Have you been,
have you been told which coach you're most like?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
No, I'm still kind of, I just started.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
I was a practice and then came home, heard you
talking about it on the way home. I didn't want
to get too engulfed and then miss my segment. So
I've got between now and seven Oh five when I'm
on down the dial.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
So I got a little time to, uh, to tinker now. Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Well, good luck and set your alarm because once you're in,
once you're enthralled, like, I mean, it just, it, it,
the rest of the world may not even be happening.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
That's, that's how, how much I enjoyed this.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
And I'm in for you tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
You are.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yes, you are. What can we look?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
God forbid you work a Friday.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
It's I would work a Friday.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
We're going to Morgantown.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I was ready to go. Not an off day tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
It did.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
We're going to Morgantown or I'm sorry, Washington, Pennsylvania.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah. Washington PA for the night. And then to Morgantown.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
A really cool minor league stadium in Washington, PA.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
I drive past it all the time.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Anytime you go to Pittsburgh, if, if they were playing,
I would go as it stands right now. I, I think,
I think I'm going to see if the horse track
is doing night racing or something.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
All right. That's that's nobody's nobody cares about that. Have
a good show tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
All right, take Tony to get chicken tenders.
