which is obviously close to Boulder, And we have two

(01:16):
are among the absolute best in this game. Eric Goodman,
tremendous sports talk radio host in Denver, is gonna talk
about coach Prime, Bearcats bev Bearcats v Buffs. We're off
too a good start. He is going to join us
coming up in just about fifteen minutes. Entire show preview

(01:37):

who wants me to get a TikTok account. I don't know, man,
I don't know. I put a lot of time and
effort and energy in the social media. I got the Twitter,
I got the Insta, I got the Facebook. Do I
need to add TikTok? I don't know. Maybe that's a
conversation for a different day. Nonetheless, entire show Rundown is
(02:02):
available on Twitter, slash x at Moeger thanks to Emory
Federal Credit Union, your credit union with heart since nineteen
thirty nine. Go to Emery FCU dot org. There are
six words I never want to hear or read consecutively
(02:22):
again as they relate to the Bengals Bengals Eagles on
Sunday one o'clock on ESPN fifteen thirty. We've said this
each of the last few weeks, a big They're all
big games, but this really does feel like a swing
game because I think they're going to beat the Raiders
and if this team goes to Baltimore in a four
(02:42):
game winning streak, regardless of how well the Ravens are playing,
and they were obviously awesome specifically on offense on Monday night,
and they were awesome on offense when they played the
Bengals at the venue originally known as Paul Brown Stadium,
but it's going to set up an opportunity to really
use the the Ravens game is a launching point.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Four and five.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
They can still do that, but five and four and again,
I'm maybe getting ahead of myself, and I shouldn't because
the Bengals haven't won at home this year, and they've
lost twice in games where they had, they were giving
a lot of points as big home favorites, So maybe
I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself, but I
do think if they beat the Philadelphia Eagles. This team
will go to Baltimore at five and four. They will
(03:25):
also hit the trade deadline at five and four.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
The single most.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Important event happening on Tuesday, November fifth in the United
States of America is the trade deadline. Well, the Bengals
be active, by the way, they can still make trades
before the trade deadline. The NFL itself has been very active.
The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired DeAndre Hopkins. Now you
(03:52):
might think, well, DeAndre Hopkins has washed, He's passed his prime.
He's not the player that he was, very fair things
to say. But the Chiefs trying to address a weakness,
trying to address a deficiency. They need some guys who
can make plays for Patrick Mahomes. It's been a very
busy last couple of weeks. Cam Akers is now a
(04:13):
Minnesota Viking. Davonte Adams is now in New York jet
Amari Cooper is not only now a Buffalo Bill, but
they decided to put him right to work. Targeted him
five times. He had a big touchdown reception. Roy Robertson
Harris's now is Seattle, Seahawk Like. Just within the last
two weeks, there's been a lot of trades. Trades are
(04:36):
more of a thing in the NFL. Trade deadline deals
are more of a thing in the NFL, but teams
aren't waiting until the trade deadline. We do this in
baseball sometimes, right, what are they gonna do with the deadline.
It's like, yeah, you're allowed to make trades in May
for your team's not very good. I tried lobby for
the Rets to do that back in May instead of
signing dudes like Mike Ford.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Nobody wanted to listen. But you could do it in
the NFL. Now.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
The pushback to that is, as it relates to the Bengals,
quote ready, that's just not what they do. That's just
not what they do. And sometimes you get patterned on
the head, and then sometimes you get admonished, and then
sometimes you get sort of told sit down, relax, don't
(05:23):
even start to talk about the trades because quote, that's
just not what they do. If I had my wish
as it relates to the Bengals, yes, I would wish
they'd win a championship. But more than maybe anything else,
I wish those words that sentence would go away forever.
(05:49):
That's just not what they do. Why Why?
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Why?
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Especially you know, we've talked about how great the bj
Hill trade continues to be. More than three years later,
it continues to pay dividends. Bengals gave up a dude
that wasn't going to make the team in exchange for
a guy who's been an asset, been an important contributing
player to a couple of teams that played an AFC
(06:17):
Championship games, a guy worth investing in. You've had success
with a trade, Why then, would in season trades be
something that they just don't do. What's the difference really
between trading for a guy in late August and trading
for a guy in late October or early November. That's
(06:38):
just not what they do. Why in an age where
we've watched the Bengals evolve and adapt to the circumstances
around them and do so sometimes in a manner that's
way overdue, why would we accept quote that's just not
what they do. Bengals aren't winning. They've won two straight games,
(06:59):
They've got a mostly healthy team. I still't think they
have a pretty good team, but they're not a team
without flaws. Let's face it, man, Two of their main
competitors in the AFC, Buffalo and Kansas City have addressed
at least perceived weaknesses, and in one case with Buffalo,
it's paid immediate dividends.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Would you be stunned to see.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
The Baltimore Ravens make an in season trade they did
a couple of years ago with Roquan Smith, to be
floorid to see the Pittsburgh Steelers make an in season trade.
Speaker 8 (07:30):
I wouldn't.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
And maybe the Bengals will, and maybe they won't. Maybe
a trade doesn't materialize because the player they target gets
sent elsewhere, or they just can't agree to terms and
they don't want to overpeck whatever it is. But you
cannot tell me that's just not what they do and
expect me to just shrug my shoulders and go along
with it. That's just not what they do. We wouldn't
(07:54):
accept that. As it comes to free agents, and the
Bengals have done pretty well in free agency. They've stepped
out of their comfort zone or number of areas. Hell,
they negotiated a deal it didn't work out with Jamar
Chase when he had still two seasons left on his contract.
Pushing aside what they do, I hope the Bengals make
a trade. The Bengals make a trade soon and don't
(08:17):
wait to the trade deadline, because that's being proactive, that's
acting with urgency. But I hope they at least make
some deal just so we can cast aside those six
words and never use them again. That's just not what
they do. I want them to go away forever. Want
(08:37):
the Bengals to be the sort of team where what
they do changes, evolves, adapts, reacts to the moment, reacts.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
To the market.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Bengals could use some help on the defensive line. They
could use some help at running back. You cannot have
enough corners, you cannot have enough offensive lineman. And a
season that is supposed to be about going for it
and winning it all, which is why you've chosen to
keep t Higgins in a season that's all about urgency.
Why then, would they stick to a trade philosophy that
(09:17):
revolves around it being something that they.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Just don't do.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
I want them to make a trade for mechanical reasons.
I want them to make a trade so once and
for all we can stop saying that's just not.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
What they do.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
You can tell me if you agree we are loaded today.
I don't know how much time will have to squeeze
in phone calls. That is my fault, but I'll throw
out the phone number anyway. Five point three seven four nine,
fifteen thirty. You could send a tweet at moegar and
what the hell an email too, mo d ESPN fifteen
thirty dot com. We are loaded today, you see, is
(10:00):
a big opportunity on Saturday night against Colorado.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
We're going to go there next.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
This is the Orthos Cincmo Eggers Show on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Put on Saturday night. This is a big game for
the Bearcats. Ten to fifteen late night kickoff on seven
hundred WLW. I'll begin with pregame coverage a little bit
after nine. This has turned into a big game in
the context of the Big twelve race. Obviously, it's a
coach in Dion Sanders that Scott Satdayfield is probably going
to be forever compared to, and so a big opportunity
(10:34):
for the Bearcats. I chatted with Eric Goodman for the
first time what I guess it would have been twelve
years ago, because he wanted me to come on his
show in Denver to talk about Colorado maybe hiring Butch Jones,
which did not happen. Twelve years later, they have Dion Sanders.
Eric is one of the co hosts of Morning Drive
with Goodman and Hurdle on Mile High Sports dot Com
(10:56):
and kind enough to give us a few minutes.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
It's good to have you, sir. How are you.
Speaker 9 (11:00):
I'm good. I got to tell you something. I have
been in the Denver market for twenty years. And this
is not an exaggeration. This is the first time in
twenty years I have ever done an interview talking about
the Colorado Buffalo's football team. Wow, that's how long it
has been since they've been good. And right now they
(11:22):
are good, but they're not great yet and I don't
know if they'll be great yet. But think about that
for a second. That's how down this program has been
for twenty years.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
How much time have you spent talking about them over
the last two years compared to every other year?
Speaker 9 (11:39):
Certainly more because certainly there's a lot of excitement, But honestly,
last year was far more sizzled than steak. If we're
being honest. They start when Dion Sanders came here. Clearly
it was a big deal. Dion Sanders is a self promoter.
Dion Sanders promotes promotes, so you kind of get hooked
(12:02):
into that, and you get hooked into you get kind
of hooked into his orbit of excitement. And they started
well last year. But personally, I've had some challenges with
Deon Sanders. Deon Sanders likes to take victory laps before
the win. So I don't know if you remember they
beat TCU and he goes on a rant do you believe?
Do you believe?
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Dude?
Speaker 9 (12:23):
You won a single game? And how did you finish
the season. I mean, really, we're not ready to crown
yet after one particular game. But what he has done,
more so than anything else, is he has generated excitement there,
sellouts certainly at Felsome Field, and the university itself has
(12:44):
benefited greatly. As you know, more kids are applying to
go to the school the city of Boulder on game day,
I mean the millions they are making because of the
excitement of the football program in Deon Sanders, I can't
even imagine the waiting lines to get into breakfast places
(13:06):
pregame or in case of you know, the game on Saturday,
dinner reservations eight fifteen. Here, shoot, it's ten to fifteen.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
There, that's going to be a go ahead.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
I'll put one more thing in perspective. I don't know
if you have the stats on it, I certainly dope
give me. I don't know if there's ever been a
team in the history of college football that has started
the season with every game on national television. They played
every game on national television this year, and they certainly
(13:41):
have won more against Oklahoma State at the end of
the year, so they're gonna have eight games on national TV,
which is unheard of outside of notre game that buys
it with NBC.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
So the national TV game that I think in this
part of the country most people watched was Game two
against Nebraska in Lincoln, and they got mannedid they got
pushed around. Since then, they've won four out of five
a narrow loss to Kansas State, and it feels like
the noise is quieted.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
But the team has gotten better. Where have they improved
the most.
Speaker 9 (14:14):
They've improved in the running game a little bit more,
something that they were not good at last year. That
that is for sure. I think their defense has kind
of come together better. But I'll be honest with you,
I mean, with Cincinnati, would you say that Arizona State
has been your signature win, if you want to call
(14:36):
it that this season short, yeah, Colorado doesn't have one
when you look at Power four schools, because there's no
such thing as Power five anymore. They haven't beaten any
Power for teams this year. They've beat North Dakota State,
not a Power four team, obviously, they beat Colorado State.
They're in the Mountain West. They got drilled by Nebraska,
(14:58):
they lost to Kansas State. All their wins have been
against teams that have had losing records. This will be
the first time again that they have a chance to
beat a team with a winning record.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
In Cincinnati, everybody knows Shadora Sanders. Everybody knows Trevor everybody
knows Travis Hunter. Who else should I know?
Speaker 9 (15:19):
Horns really good. They're receiving corps. Honestly, I think you
could take the top four guys off their receiving corps
and they could start for any team in the SEC.
I mean, they are a big play team, so you
know your secondary should be on notice that any of
those guys can get behind any of your guys at
(15:42):
any time in the game. They're a big play team
and they can score fast, and Shador Sanders has the arm.
The problem for Shador Sanders since he has been here
is he just takes way too many sacks, and we
can extrapolate that out into the NFL, even though as
a world of talent, the question is how fast it
(16:03):
is his processor? You know, I'm going to use the
Denver Broncos as an example. Russell Wilson throughout his entire
career got sacked a lot, and Sean Payton and Russell
Wilson certainly had their issues. One of them was Seawan
was always very upset with Russ taking way too many sacks.
(16:25):
Bo Nicks, like him or not, doesn't take a lot
of sacks. And Sean Payton has come out and said
many times, and there's a part of me that truly
agrees with this. Quarterbacks acts are more on the quarterback
than the offensive line. How fast is your processor? When
you look at some of the top quarterbacks of all time,
they rarely got sacked because their processor was so fast.
(16:47):
They read the defense well, pre snap, reed, was really
really good, quick release, all of that stuff. I don't
know how fast that is.
Speaker 10 (16:57):
For Shud or Sanders right now.
Speaker 9 (16:59):
Their offensive line, I know is definitely improved, but he
still gets sacked too much in general.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Uh, I hear there are a lot of Cincinnati fans
making their way out to the Boulder area for this game.
You mentioned breakfast and dinner spots before. Where should folks
making the trek go?
Speaker 9 (17:18):
Postage's is great, poster Jas is great. And I know
I'm going to say something blasphemous. I can find better
chili throwing a dark down the street than Skyline.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
You can't. I mean, that's sky you know that's great.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
There's there's no there's no way on earth that that's
actually true. But I'll try Pastage's.
Speaker 9 (17:36):
Okay, possage As is really good. There are a lot
of there are a lot of great places. I want
to say one thing. I don't know if you're gonna
ask me this, and what I'm about to say is
going to probably sound, well, this guy's being a total homer.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Yeah, nothing you say right now will be as dumb
as what you just said about Skyline.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
So go ahead.
Speaker 9 (17:55):
I said that really just to get a reaction. My
my cousins live out there, They're probably not listening. Skyline
is not bad. I've had Here's the thing, Okay, skyline
Chili to me is like in and out Burger. It's
pretty good, but it's talked about too much as being great.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
How's that again?
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Disagree wildly inaccurate, but but that's okay.
Speaker 9 (18:17):
You know what we can listen you ever write to
your opinion thought as long as you agree with mine.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
But I digress your next thing, go ahead here.
Speaker 9 (18:26):
This is something that you're gonna put that you might
that you likely disagree with more than my skylight chili comments.
Travis Hunter is the greatest college football player of all
time period. He is Shotani. He is Babe Ruth. The
two greatest baseball players of all time? Why dominant pitchers
dominant hitters. If Travis Hunter doesn't miss the last really
(18:51):
game and a half, he's the eighth leading wide receiver
in the country and he is easily the top cornerback
in the country. Charles wood And never did that. Champ
Bailey never did that. I have never seen a player
with this much talent, combine it with the amount of
plays that he plays like him ever, You've watched a
(19:12):
lot of college football as of I but he dominates
on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 11 (19:19):
Even with all the Cincinnati fans.
Speaker 9 (19:21):
Coming out here, and you want your bear Cats to win,
and you know, best of luck to you. If Travis
Hunter plays, and I would expect him to and he's
expected to play, just focus on him and enjoy is greatness.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
All right, seriously, I love him.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
And then I'm privileged, privileged enough to have a Heisman
vote and he's he's my early leader, right, Oh yeah,
I mean I really haven't thought thought about him in
the context of greatest of all time.
Speaker 9 (19:47):
But well, give me a guy, give me a guy
who does what he does offensively and defensively, and I'll
waiting list again.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I mean that there's what he what he does is insane.
What he does is absolutely and saying, I guess for
me to consider the greatest of all time, it would
have to happen in the context of something special with
the team as a whole, and they are playing well
and so maybe it will. But I for me to
consider someone the greatest of all time, it has to come.
It has to come in the context of a winning
(20:15):
season and a special season. Then maybe the Buffaloes are
authoring one of those. We will see.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
Yeah, yeah, all right, you're the best man, MO.
Speaker 9 (20:25):
Appreciate your next time I'm in Cincinnati, I'm gonna try Scott.
How should I get the Skyline Chili? Tell me how
I because like with in and out Burger, you got
to get an animals. So that's what everybody tells me.
Am I missing? How am I missing the bow? Here?
Do I need to prepare it a certain way?
Speaker 5 (20:42):
You asked for cheese Coney's, all right? Which are you know?
Chili dogs? With Skyline Chili, you get mustard and onion
and cheese and you order it all the way and
you're good to go. Now, you could also get a three,
four or five way. I'm a three way guy, which
is simple. It's just getting noodles.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
Just talking about chili, right.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Spaghetti noodles, Skyline Chili, talking about a three If you
come to Cincinnati for a different type of three way,
I'm I'm not the guy to talk to there. But
but the next time, the next time you're in Cincinnati,
let me know I will take you to Skyline Chili.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
You will have an awesome experience. I promise.
Speaker 10 (21:19):
By the way.
Speaker 9 (21:19):
On a side note, yeah, can the Bengals lose a
couple of games? So t Higgins goes on the marketplace
because the Broncos could not only desperately use him, but
they have the cap space to hand him a contract
when he watch in the door.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Yeah, I mean, the thing is, the worst case, they're
going to be four and five and they're not punning
on the season. If they're four and five, if they
if they lose the next two, they play Philly. Thing
is they play Philly, then the Raiders come here. They're
not losing to the Raiders. So at four and five,
they're not given up.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
On the season.
Speaker 9 (21:48):
Tell that to Baltimore fans.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Yeah, there is something to that.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
All right.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Well, uh, when you're in Cincinnati, let me know.
Speaker 9 (21:54):
Okay, thanks mo, whenever you come out here, I'll take
you wherever you want to.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
I'm flying I'm flying out tomorrow, so you know, I
got a lot of time to kill on Saturday before
the game.
Speaker 9 (22:06):
Well, I'm playing golf at one forty where you're staying in.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
The city, staying in Westminster.
Speaker 9 (22:14):
Oh, seriously, you have my you have my cell phone?
Speaker 10 (22:17):
Yeah, yeah, okay, I will.
Speaker 9 (22:20):
I will seriously give me a call. Let's meet for breakfast.
I'll take you to breakfast, seriously, soul.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
All right, all right, Well we'll discuss her.
Speaker 10 (22:28):
I got to be at the golf course.
Speaker 9 (22:29):
I got to be at the golf course about twelve
twelve thirty. Let's make this happen.
Speaker 10 (22:34):
Give me a call, okay.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
Loads of time to kill done. As soon as I
get done with this, you're going to get a text
from me. All right, man, thanks so much.
Speaker 9 (22:40):
Can I bring my Can I bring my wife? Who
knows nothing about sports? She's from Scotland. Are you cool
with talking about, you know, horses and jumping, because that's
the direction she's going to want to go.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
I would rather talk horses and jumping with her than
your bad food takes with you.
Speaker 9 (22:54):
So yes, Well now we're splitting the check, you and her.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
That's totally get it. All right, man, you're gonna hear
from all right. I'll I'll say it.
Speaker 11 (23:04):
Man.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Eric Goodman's despite the bad skyline take, he is. He's
good dude, So is Lee Sterling. He joins us next.
Let's see twenty three away from four o'clock. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty. I'm egri Chad Reynold's gonna join us
in just about ten minutes.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Right now, we got our guy. Lee Sterling makes.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
His money college and pro football Paramount sports dot Com
on x at Paramount Sports, William my friend, what's up.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
I'm good. I'm good. Another another week where the Dolphins
do nothing and I can't I can't even watch it.
I mean it's it's back to after like when Dan
Marino left, and that would be a game that I
would watch on Monday or Tuesday afternoon, you know, watch
it in like twenty twenty five minutes on YouTube and
(23:54):
and thank you know what, two was back. But at
least my mind me Hurricanes and you were since in
head Bearcats are rolling.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Yeah no, and so let's start there a big game
in the Big twelve on Saturday night, the Bearcats go
to Colorado take on the Buffalo's You see a five
point dog?
Speaker 6 (24:11):
Yeah, we had uc last week. It was a big
play for us and they dominated. Didn't love the play calling,
especially late. I think you go for the field goal,
you go up thirteen didn't make a whole lot of sense.
A couple other plays I thought weren't aggressive enough. But
they're going to have to be aggressive against Colorado because
Colorado has a deep group of receivers, really good quarterback,
(24:35):
the best two passing teams at Cincinnati's face pitt in
Texas Tech. They represent the Bearcats two losses this year.
I know the losses were by just one in three points.
They weren't out classed, but their defense is tasked with
containing a team on offense has a seventy two point
two percent passer they're averaging almost eight yards per attempt
(24:57):
and an up tempo offense altitude. I hate to say it,
I like Colorado thirty seven to twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
They killing me.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
That's okay, that's okay, that's all right, fine, I get it.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Your job is to be objective. I totally understand.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
We get a New York team in primetime again, which
isn't much fun. Pittsburgh's having fun. Russell Wilson, who played
against the Jets, got off to a slow start, then
looked terrific in the second half. Steelers nearly a touchdown
favorite at home against.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
New York, and I had a bunch of people tell me, oh,
you got to go with fields, got to stay with fields.
This is why you don't. They needed some plays that
could get down the field. They finally got that here
the Giants. They haven't beaten a winning team in a standalone,
nationally televised game. Maybe since Bill Parcells left and they
are not getting the job done here, So briand up
(25:49):
all the coach just trying to figure out how to
get this offense going. They'll now be without their starting
left tackle. You know Danny used to be Dimes. Call
them now Danny, Dink and dunk Nick not getting the
job done. Steelers defense swarming here. I like Pittsburgh twenty
seven to thirteen.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
All right, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports dot Com. Bengals are
at home where they haven't won, and twice they've lost
as big favorites, their favorites but not big favorites on
Sunday against Philadelphia.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
What's funny how getting aj Brown and Davonte back healthy
can cleared a lot of doubts about the Eagles. Philadelphia
ranked in the top ten and scoring offense and defense.
The Eagles shouldn't be underdogs in my opinion, to the
Bengals in this game. Cincinnati's victories have come against the Panthers, Giants,
and Browns combined record of those three teams four and seventeen.
(26:44):
In fact, during the last two games, the Bengals were
outcamed by the Giants and the Browns by one hundred
and thirteen yards. Cincinnati has played three good offenses this year,
and the Bengals love forty one to the Ravens, thirty
eight to the Commanders, in twenty six to the Chiefs.
I just think Cincinnati's mediocre defense is vulnerable to strong attacks.
(27:05):
And the Eagles have won again this year with second
one Barkley, I believe, the best running back in the
NFC this year and Jalen Hurts. Having two star wide
receivers on the field again clears up a lot of problems.
I hate to say it again, Philly thirty one seventeen.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
This is like talking to the Grim Reaper, and you're
killing me.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Paramount sports dot com, your free play of the week

folks have asked me how is ucf favored, even if slightly,
how is ucf favored against BYU?

They want to get this game for free. We have
a real strong opinion on this game. First filed five callers.
They call eight hundred four hundred nine seven four one

pulled off the shocker last week in that Iowa State.
So called eight hundred four hundred nine seven four to

What's going on?
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Oh, not much, just catching up with Arn. It's been
a while since we've seen each other, so.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
Yeah, and anything new happened in the in the twenty
two and a half hour since you guys last talked.
Speaker 7 (30:36):
No, not really, I don't think so. I think you know,
we're both getting We had a big lunch yesterday, and
you know we're both finally getting back to normal and
being able to have food consumption again.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
It was a lot I understand, understand, all right? Are
the Bearcats good.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
In some areas?
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (31:00):
I assume we're talking about football.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Yes, we're starting with football. Yes.
Speaker 7 (31:04):
Okay. What worries me is where we don't know if
they're good or not is past defense and we're going
to find out on Saturday night. So, you know, I
think they can run the ball. I think they can
throw the ball. I think we have seen with their
performances against R. J. Harvey and Cam Scattibell that they
(31:26):
can defend the run. We're about to find out if
they can defend the pass. Because Sugar Sanders is really
really good, and you know, I think we are past
the point. I think some people looked at him as
kind of a novelty act. If you if you really
watch him and sit down and watch how he plays quarterback,
the dude can really really play the position. So and
(31:48):
he's got great talent at wide receiver complimenting him. So
if they're good at pass defense, we'll know at I
don't know what, one point thirty in the morning, uh, Saturday.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
Yeah, yeah, So you know, I think for a lot
of folks, I was talking about this earlier when when
Colorado played the game this season that I think most
people maybe around here watched.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
It was the Nebraska game.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
You know, look a Big ten opponent, but Nebraska really
pushed him around. And in the aftermath of that, there
were a lot of conversations about Colorado's offensive line, and
you know why Dion, for all that he's done there
hasn't been able to put together a good old line
all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
It feels like that unit has gotten better.
Speaker 7 (32:34):
They have definitely gotten better. I mean, they're still you know,
I think the key to this game, though, it could
very well be Dante Corleone. You know, if he can
have his way at the point of attack and really
kind of collapse that pocket from the middle, I think
it'll have a big impact on Shader Sanders. But you know,
(32:57):
if you if you're watching what they have done lately,
and it's on both sides of the ball. Really, their
offensive line and defensive line got pushed around against Nebraska,
and both of those units over the last three weeks
have been considerably better, and that's why they're on a
three game winning streak. And you know, really those games
that have not been all that close, like they have
(33:19):
been at times dominant in those last three games. So
that's what you worry about, at least when you when
you're breaking down this game, is you're looking at a
team that is showing considerable improvement week over week.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
You know, you and I joke about my propensity for
throwing pens. When things go poorly in a college basketball game,
I'm gonna start throwing heavier stuff at the end of
the first half of football games.
Speaker 7 (33:48):
The frustrating part is mo they're doing exactly what you
would want them to do all the way up to
the converting the field goal part. Like they have several
times march right down the field taking some shots at
the end zone, you know, haven't haven't been able to
connect on them. I don't think they're doing you know
(34:08):
where all. They're too conservative. They've taken some shots and
worked their way down the field, got into field goal range,
and it's just a deflating feeling to feel like, you know,
we should have gotten this momentum that you get from
putting points on the board going into halftime, and they're
(34:30):
going into halftime kind of a little bit frustrated. I
will give them credit. They have come out most of
the time in the second half and you know, regained
their momentum. But these these games would be so much
easier if they would just go ahead and you know,
convert those three points. The weird thing is, I don't
(34:51):
know if I've ever seen anything like it before. Nathan
Hawks kicks the ball perfectly straight every time. That is
not a good thing when you're kicking from the left
hash and or the right hash. So that part has
been a little frustrating. But the leg is there, the
distance is there. He's not hitting it poorly, he's not
(35:15):
duck cooking it, you know, one way or the other.
He's just kicking it incredibly straight. And that has not
exactly been a good thing three games in a row
and the other one wasn't him, but four times this season.
Speaker 5 (35:31):
Yeah, definitely frustrating. Chad Brendel Bearcat Journal dot Com. For
most of us last Friday, it was our first glimpse
at the Bearcats. You've obviously had a chance to watch
them in practice, but the game itself against Ohio State,
what was your biggest takeaway?
Speaker 7 (35:49):
How good the starting five looked.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Immediately?
Speaker 7 (35:54):
I mean, you know, I will say this and I
said this yesterday because you know, Austin, our good friend,
Austin Elmore, was a little discouraged by by how Ohio
State looked. Ohio State's dealing with the brand new team.
You know that they have very few returning guys. Sincinnati
has earned six of their top eight scorers and they
(36:14):
brought in transfers that fit the roster, and they should
be well ahead of Ohio State at the moment. And
I said that to Wes Miller talking to him, you know,
since then, I said, look, yeah, it was great that
you guys played as well as you did, but you
should have been that much more ahead of the system
(36:37):
than Ohio State team that's been together for a couple
of weeks. And he agreed. So I'm not going to
get two out over my skis because on October eighteenth,
this should be something that rolls through November and into
December mo with with as much turnover as there is
in college basketball, maintaining your core is something that very
(36:59):
few teamsday face are going to have. There's not going
to be this feeling out process of who are we?
You know? What does it look like? They should know? Boy,
you watched that seven minute segment with that opening five
to start the game, and I think we were all
it's funny. George Vogel on the George and the Jungle
(37:20):
podcast on the Bearcat Journal Network on Tuesday said he
was walking out of the arena and he looked at
his friend that he was with and said this could
be a lot of fun. And then he said he
could hear over his shoulder somebody talking to their friends
saying this team could be a lot of fun. Yeah,
and he heard it like three times walking out of
the arena that that was the general sentiment that everybody
(37:41):
was like, man, got a chance to be pretty good here.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
I mean.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
I've watched a lot of exhibition basketball, obviously not you know,
high major versus high major, but it's rare that you
feel that way based on that performance. And so, you know,
a lot of us went into that game with high expectations.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Sort of built. It was fun.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
It was fun to to to come out of something
where it felt like gas was poured on the fire.
It was it was fun to see the the hype
beast get fed that. To me, that was a lot
of fun on Friday night. And for me, it starts
with my new favorite player, Dylan Mitchell.
Speaker 9 (38:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (38:17):
The other thing that was that I thought was really
kind of telling mo was there was a couple points
in that game where it felt like, Okay, this is
the spot where maybe Ohio State cuts into the lead
and maybe gets it down in you know, six eight points,
and then we get a you know, we get a
competitive game since Donny never let that happen. And you know,
(38:38):
one of the reasons was Dylan Mitchell just his energy,
his effort. The rebounding one thing I love. I love
a forward that can get a rebound and just go
and we saw that from him several times. That puts
incredible pressure on a defense as they're they're they're getting
back to try to figure out how to stop him.
(39:00):
And you know, the other thing for me really was
a lot of the pass it Like, yeah, they made
ten threes, which is a big number. It's not twenty
nine Celtics made the other night, which was one of
the crazier things I've ever seen.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
Thanks for bringing up.
Speaker 7 (39:14):
But they were open. They were open though, like they
were rhythm open looks. There wasn't anybody you know, taking contested,
difficult shots at the end of a shot clock. It
was guys moving the ball, knowing where their teammates are
going to be, and then guys taking comfortable, rhythm shots.
(39:35):
And I think that's why you saw that seven different
guys made a three. I think that's why you saw
that was because nobody was taking you know, dumb, contested,
bad three pointers. So yeah, there's there's a lot of
reason for excitement.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
You're telling me, all right, man, thank you as always.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
I was going to say we'll talk next week, but
you're hosting the show on Halloween, and I'm not so
but I'll be listening.
Speaker 7 (40:02):
You're gonna have fun with the with the little one?
Are you Are you wearing a costume or are you
just walking her around?
Speaker 4 (40:08):
I think I'm wearing a costume.
Speaker 7 (40:10):
Are you doing are you doing the old man thing
where you build a fire pit in your driveway and
you hand out candy at the fireplace?
Speaker 4 (40:16):
Are are our plans are somewhat fluid.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
I'm not sure we're going to be in our neighborhood,
but I I think I think I'm wearing a costume
this year. I think I haven't been told, but I
think I'm wearing a costume.
Speaker 7 (40:28):
Well, I hope we get to see pictures.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
If there's I mean, every parent has an obligation to
take a picture of their kid in the costume, so
that will happen if I also am in one. I
think we're trying to debate whether I'm gonna wear a
costume or if our dog is going to wear the costume?
So there will be someone else in costume. It may
be me, it may be the dog, and this will
all make sense next week.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
You got to get one that's got the like the
dog with like the I saw one today where it
looked like a little like Canda.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Yeah, yes, and the dog walks.
Speaker 7 (40:58):
Around and looks like it's something else. Those are great
out well yeah, And.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
I mean, you know the thing is, you know, you
put a costume on this dog never looks happy. So
there's a part of me that wants to, like, do
we have to do this to the poor dog? But
then I've got to wear the costumes. So we'll see Chad,
Thank you very much, all right. Thanks get Chad's coverage

The Cincinnati Reds, like three minutes ago, released a statement
from Fawn Rose, Pete Rose's daughter, on behalf of the
Rose family and in so many words, It announces that
a public visitation lasting fourteen hours at Great American Ballpark
(44:08):
will take place on Sunday, November tenth. It'll be free,
it'll be open to everybody, and you have a chance
to say your goodbyes to Pete Rose. And so that'd
be on the tenth of November, which is two weeks
from this. Sunday, starts at seven am, goes till nine am.
That is on the tenth of November. And the statement
(44:30):
also announces that Pete Rose's life will be celebrated. His
career will be celebrated with a special Pete Rose Day
at the Reds game on Wednesday, May the fourteenth next year.
More details about that game and other tributes as the
date approaches. But if you want to pay your respects
to the hit King, November tenth, starting at seven am,
(44:50):
all the way till nine o'clock, fourteen hours at GABP.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
So there you go.
Speaker 5 (44:57):
Ten minutes after four o'clock. J Morrison on the Bengals
Here in just a few minutes. Bengals Eagles on Sunday,
Let's go to Philadelphia. John Marx, longtime sports talk radio
host in Philadelphia, hosts a show that's that's a lot
of fun to watch, even if you're not really a
Philadelphia sports fan. Philly Philly with John Marsh. I'm gonna
ask you the same question I asked our previous guest
(45:19):
about the UC Bearcats.
Speaker 4 (45:20):
I'll ask you the same about the Philadelphia Eagles. Are
they good?
Speaker 2 (45:26):
No?
Speaker 1 (45:28):
All right?
Speaker 4 (45:29):
I was just thinking about this tonight.
Speaker 7 (45:30):
Right.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
They're four and two, and the way I talk about him,
you think they're two and four, right, I mean, they're
they're a playoff team. I don't I don't think you're
gonna get a I don't think you're gonna get the
the type of you know, collapse that you had last year.
But the expectations also a little bit different. They were
(45:50):
ten and one last year. They couldn't get out of
their own way. They end up not winning the division,
they end up losing in the first round of the Bucks,
you know. Keeping in the last two weeks, they beat
the Browns, who stink, and they beat the Giants, who stink.
So they're four and two. Let's see what happens when
they face a good football team. And maybe the record
doesn't indicate it right now, but I think the Bengals
are a good football team.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
Yeah, and coming off victories against the Giants and Browns
in opposite order.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
You talked about this on your show.
Speaker 5 (46:17):
Look, they got say Kwan Barkley, who's terrific, and yet
for a player of I think Jalen Hurts caliber, at
least a player who is supposed to be someone who's
held in high regard, they've kind of taken the football
away from him.
Speaker 4 (46:33):
Is this the blueprint moving forward?
Speaker 14 (46:37):
Well?
Speaker 2 (46:37):
I mean gee, So twenty twenty one, there was a
big discussion of whether or not Jalen Hurts he's a
starter in the league, But how good of a starter
is he? Is he a game manager? Is he a
guy that can really play from within the pocket? Can
he win with his arm? Twenty twenty two, he proved
that he could. He made great progress. They were in
the Super Bowl. They Dan'll near beat Pat Mahomes. Jalen
(46:58):
Hurts looked like a star that day. I'm a new contract.
In twenty twenty three, they were ten to one through
the first eleven games, and then the league started blitzing
the Eagles and started blitzing Jalen Hurts and they totally
fell apart. Now he's better this year against the blitz,
but there's still something missing. So it feels like the
formula for this team right now is Jalen Hurts. Don't
have him throw it too much. As long as he
(47:19):
doesn't turn the ball over, which he has in the
last two weeks, the Eagles have a pretty good chance
to win because aj Brown, Devonte Smith, Sakwon Barkley, you
mentioned it. There's a ton of talent on offense. They
have a good offensive line. So if Jalen can just
not turn the ball over, then the team has a
chance to win. The problem with that, MO is they're
paying up two hundred and fifty five million dollars. They're
(47:40):
not paying them to be a game manager. I put
this out on Twitter earlier in the season, and you'll
appreciate this because you're in Cincinnati. I said, if Andy
Dalton was the quarterback of his team, what's the Eagles
record right now? It was after four games, and everybody
agreed it would be two and two, which is what
their record was, or three and one.
Speaker 6 (47:58):
Right, So you don't pay a game manager two hundred fifty.
Speaker 2 (48:00):
Five million dollars. So we'll see where he goes from here.
But it seems to be trending. He's more game manager
than star.
Speaker 4 (48:07):
Are you a Knick Sirianni guy?
Speaker 2 (48:12):
No, I mean, like, it's pretty amazing if you were
to just take the nonsense. He mean mugs for the camera.
He comes off as being juvenile. He looks more like
a frat boy than an NFL head coach. Nobody else
behaves the way.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
That he behaves.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
But if he's also had success, right, so a lot
of people don't give him credit for the success. But
he's been the playoffs three straight years. He was in
the super Bowl. Damn near won the Super Bowl in
twenty twenty two, and they're four and two so far
this year. So if the Eagle's underachieve and they don't
win a playoff game, the fans are already or he
already had the pitchforks. So he's the one that's going
(48:49):
to be blamed after a loss. But not like, here's
the best thing I'll say about Nick Sirianni mo is
the guys play hard for him.
Speaker 7 (48:56):
The guys like him.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
I don't know game day he's the best coach.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
It's not his offense.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
He's not calling plays anymore, but the guys play hard
for him. And if guys play hard for you. That's
one thing that is very very important that everybody's pulling
in the right direction, the same direction, and it appears
the team is doing that right now.
Speaker 4 (49:14):
All right.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
So we talk a lot about what the Eagles are
offensively with Hurtz and Barkley, when they've had their moments
on defense, what have they done.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Well rush the quarterback? They're line Their best players on
defense are their young players, and it's the Georgia the
Philly Dogs as they called them while they Howie Roseman
the GM said, Hey, how am I going to go
to defense? I'll just draft every Georgia player that comes
out of the draft the last couple of years, and
he did it. Jordan Davis in the first round. Jalen
(49:44):
Carter slid because of the off the field stuff first round.
The Kobe Dean slid to the third round. Keeley Ringo,
who is a Georgia player, they drafted him a little
bit later on, and you're seeing Jalen Carter develop into
one of the better interior linemen in the league. Jordan
Davis is more of a nose tackle. I don't value
them as much as pass rushers, but when they're good
(50:05):
and they're at their best, they get to the quarterback.
When they're not, and they can't get to the quarterback.
That's where you can get a quarterback like a Derek
Carr or a guy that likes to dig and dunck
his way down the field. You get killed by a
thousand paper cuts. So the defense, the defense can give
up yards. I think it's a bend, but don't break
(50:25):
defense will give you everything underneath. You're not going to
beat us over the top and eventually you'll throw an
interception or something like that.
Speaker 8 (50:32):
So I think it bests.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
This defense is like a top twelve defense. But they've
been really inconsistent so far this year. They've looked great
some games, they've looked terrible in other games.
Speaker 4 (50:41):
Yeah, Ben, but don't break defense. We've heard that before.
Speaker 5 (50:43):
John Marx Philly, Philly with John Marx in Philadelphia Bengals
Eagles Sunday at till one o'clock. Pregame coverage from the
from the Grail starts at nine am. John good Stuff,
Jay Morrison on the Bengals next Orthosinci Mulleger Show, ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Day, Cincinnatis Even fifteen thirty twenty
(51:04):
two after four o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty on moegor.
On Thursdays, we spend a few minutes with our friend
Jay Morrison, who's with Bengals Talk dot Com under the
SI Umbrella and on x at by Jay Morrison.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
Also part of the Growler Podcast with our guy Paul Danner.
Junior Jay is with us.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Now.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
Hello Jay, Hey Mo.
Speaker 10 (51:25):
How are you doing today?
Speaker 5 (51:26):
I'm well, last week it was your mom, two weeks
ago was you and any other birthdays we need to
talk about.
Speaker 10 (51:30):
Today, not today, okay, Dad on Monday, rather on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (51:36):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (51:37):
October busy month in the Morrison family. All right, good stuff.
So the Bengals won their last two games, and yet
there's I think there's apprehension. There's apprehension about the offense.
Should there be apprehension about the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 10 (51:57):
What about their defense?
Speaker 7 (51:59):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (51:59):
Or just about the Eagles in general. Yeah, it's a
step up, no question. You're talking the last two games
the Giants and the Browns. The Eagles can say the
same thing, but the Eagles their last two games, Browns
and Giants, these two teams just are flipping opponents. So
it is going to be a step up, but this
(52:20):
Eagles team is just not I don't know that they
scare you defensively, They're gonna make you work for it.
They're gonna take away the explosives, and they try to
keep everything in front of them. They don't flit a lot,
they don't take a lot of chances, and as a result,
they don't take the ball away. They only have two
turnovers this year. I looked it up through in the
Super Bowl era, there have only been six other teams
(52:41):
that have made it through six games with only two turnovers,
and if they fail to get one against the Bengals
will be one of only two teams they have two
turnovers through seven games. So they do a lot of
things well. They don't do much great. They have a
couple of rookie corners that that's something that you would
think Jamar and te can exploit. But they're both played
really well, so it's kind of a mirror matchup. The
(53:04):
Bengals have a lot of high paid talent on offense.
The Eagles do too. They've got a lot of young
talent on defense. They've struggled. They kind of found their
foot in the last two weeks. These teams are really
really similar for being opposite conference teams that only see
each other once every four years.
Speaker 5 (53:18):
Bengals are coming off for performance where they held Nick
chubbed at two yards of carry. They were good stopping
New York's running game for what that's worth. With the
exception of the overtime run by Derrick Henry. They did
a good job against him. And so you know, they're
healthier up front. It would be a stretch, I guess
to say that they're a really good run defense, but
(53:41):
they've certainly got better. Have they gotten better enough to
at least slow down Saquon Barkley?
Speaker 15 (53:47):
Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 7 (53:48):
See.
Speaker 10 (53:48):
That's the thing with Derek Henry, you knew what you
were keying on and what we were able to take
away with the two threat or the don't duel threat
that the taekwon Barkley is you can focus on taking
the runaway that they start throwing him swift screen passes
or short little crossers and and he can really get
you that way. And I don't I don't buy too
much in it just stopping Nick Chubb holding him to
(54:11):
two yards per carry. He hadn't played a game in
thirteen months. Yes, it's he's still a great back, but
it was kind of Nick Chubb light. It wasn't the
full Nick Chubb last week. So this is a huge
test because you can't just key on Saquon and and
the kind of the way they did against the Ravens.
The AJ Brown and Devonte Smith are legit top tier
(54:34):
wide receivers in this league, and you've got to You've
got to spread that concern out all around. It's a
huge game for for Cam Taylor, Britton, for DJ Turner.
I think they're going to be in single coverage a lot.
You're gonna see the Bengals and man coverage a lot.
Those guys are going to have to lock those guys down.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
How are we feeling about Gino Stone in Orlando Brown.
Speaker 10 (54:55):
Yeah, they were out there today. I just saw Orlando
and and the locker room. He's just come out of
the training room. I wouldn't expect him to be honest,
but I asked him how he's feeling. He thinks feeling great.
He seems in a really good mood. I think I
think both these guys have a shot to play this week.
You do wonder about Gino with how painful it is,
and how he can hold up. It's not like he's
(55:15):
been playing great anyhow, So maybe they do spell him
a little bit more with Jordan Battle, but Orlando's the one.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
They really need.
Speaker 10 (55:22):
There's just no real significant depth behind there. I mean,
he got Cody Ford that could step in and he's
probably better suited to play.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
God.
Speaker 10 (55:30):
He held up okay against Cleveland, but you don't want
to go against this Eagles defense that does have nineteen
sacks and they spread it out. They don't have one
big rusher. But you need Orlando Brown to play in
this game much more than Gino's soon.
Speaker 5 (55:42):
Evan McPherson is ten for seventeen since the beginning of
last year from beyond fifty yards. One of those was
obviously the kick against Baltimore, which I don't put on him,
but he was awesome his first two years right from
beyond fifty and that's sort of shaped maybe play calling strategy,
that sort of thing.
Speaker 4 (56:00):
Are are they are?
Speaker 5 (56:02):
Do they have a little bit more confidence in him
from fifty plus than he deserves for them to have
right now?
Speaker 7 (56:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (56:09):
I don't know. I mean, he has been so good.
I wasn't I knew he'd had a couple of misses lately.
I didn't realize ten of seventeen from fifty plus. You
think back to the Jacksonville game and the clutch when
he had in that game, and I still think they
have as much confidence in him. But yeah, that's that's
something to watch going forward, and the kicking game will
(56:31):
always be something to watch when Jake Elliot's on the
other sideline. I know a lot of Bengal fans are
still mad that he's not in the Bengals jersey right now,
but yeah, I don't think that they will hesitate if
it's if it's in the fifty yard fifty to fifty
six range and they need a field goal. I don't
think they're going to worry about his last seventeen picks.
They're going to worry about that one that he's lined
(56:51):
up for.
Speaker 7 (56:52):
Great.
Speaker 5 (56:52):
So Jake Elliott's going to bang home like a fifty
eight yarder to win it, and I'm gonna have to
deal with that. Thanks so much. Good with the good reminder.
Jay Austin's off as always, man, Thank you so much.
That's our guy, Jay Morrison. He is Bengals Talk dot
Com along with James over there. You got James Orpene,
you got Elise Jesse, you got Russ Helman, you got
you got Jay Morrison, uh and probably like nine or
(57:15):
ten other people.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
Bengals Talk dot Com.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (57:19):
FC Cincinnati plays on Monday. This is our last show
before that. I mean, we're on Monday, but it's football show,
so it's our last chance to uh talk about the
game and talk about the season and the playoffs and
so much more.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
Jeff Berding is gonna stop by, well so you could
use football at the double entendre. We could wet football
in the Natty.
Speaker 5 (57:38):
We're not going to mention the game, but I mean
it is a a show sort of devoted to American football,
and like we did like three minutes on college basketball
on Monday.
Speaker 4 (57:48):
I mean, it's not like we're just we're gonna ignore
the soccer game.
Speaker 5 (57:51):
But it's our first, our last chance to devote large
swaths of time to the MLS Cup playoffs, which are
already underway and they begin for FC Cincinna on Monday.
Jeff Birdings in a stop I spent a few minutes
to talk about the season. Next Orto sin Cmoagor Show
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
You've been listening to football in Thenetti on the official
home of the Bengals Cincinnatis, ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 5 (58:15):
In c moagor show on ESPN fifteen thirty. FC Cincinnati
is back in the NLS Cup playoffs for a third
consecutive year. They will host Game one of their best
of three series against New York City on Monday night.
Came will start at six forty five. The CEO co
CEO of FC Cincinnati, Jeff Birding, is with us. We
(58:36):
always get you on right before the season starts, and
last couple of years we've had you here in studio
with us right before the playoffs begin. Hopefully this year
with a better outcome. It's good to have you. You know,
the season kind of at the end it got weird
and then they win their last game. Obviously, you guys
(58:57):
were locked into the three seed, but you beat Piladelphia,
and I know it didn't really have any impact on
playoff seeding or anything like that. There were other ramifications
that we'll talk about, but that was a much needed win. Yes,
you know, we were excellent the first two thirds of
the year, certainly one of the strongest teams in the
league contending to repeat his Supporter Shield champions And you know,
(59:20):
the last two years we were very healthy, and this
year injuries cut up to us. When when we lost
Matt Miosca and Nick Haglan back to back weeks and
then Lucho missed you know, the better part of seven
or so games, you know, we're just not as good.
And we brought in some newer players and it took
them time to them adapt with the team, and it
(59:40):
just seemed like we were never really hitting on all cylinders.
I think we've played forty games this year in all
the different competitions, forty different starting lineups by Pat Noonan.
So there's no question the final third of the year
was poor by our standards, it was poor, but getting
that win against Philly the first time we ever beat
(01:00:01):
the Union in Philadelphia, and they had a down year,
but at the end of the day, they are a
winning organization in a in a in a good veteran
led team, and to beat them in their place does
absolutely give us momentum into the postseason and also qualified
us for Champions Cup, which again at standards, we want
to be one of the teams that everyone in the
(01:00:22):
region of the.
Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
WARLD, this region of the world.
Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Conkacaff knows Cincinnati is one of the best teams in
MLS and every year they're going to be in Champions Cup.
I like how that rivalry with Philadelphia has turned into
a rivalry that's fun.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
It is.
Speaker 5 (01:00:34):
You know, it's one of those things where there's a
lot of respect because a lot of our players and
coaches and everyone were there. I also want to acknowledge
that they're actually good guys. I know, I'm being honest,
like it's a it's a I'm gonna for me. It's
not supposed to say that. No, But can I tell
you when when when When I was at the Bengals
for all those years, you know there's a bitter rivalry
(01:00:54):
with the Steelers. You know, the Ravens was a fierce rivalry,
but not bitter because of course Marvin's history and you
knew a lot of the people in the front office,
and you know, there was a lot of respect. Now,
of course you want to, you know, bash their heads
on Sunday. But my point is, I think with us
in Philly, it's a little bit of the same. Given
a similar dynamic where the coach came from there as
(01:01:17):
the assistant gets promoted here to the head coach. Some
of the players come over to help create that winning
culture from what was not a winning culture, and then
we start to experience success. And I would tell you,
you know, you want to surpass them, and I feel that,
you know, year in and year out, it's going to
be a battle with them, But we do want to
(01:01:39):
sort of assert that FC Cincinnati is one of the
top teams in Major League Soccer year in and year out,
in a way that Philadelphia was when we hired Chris
and Patty.
Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
You know, I'm a huge pat nowt and guy.
Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
He's kind enough to come on our show when we ask,
and he always has such great perspective. I feel like
he's and maybe it's different behind the scenes, but at
least publicly, he's the same when you guys are playing
really well, and he's the same guy when things aren't
going so well. And in my experience and certainly i'm
sure yours, I think that's so critical with coaches. I
think it's so critical with leaders. Well, and let me
(01:02:11):
go just one stuff further. I not only agree Mo there,
he's also the same guy off the field, he's the
same guy when you're just sitting around in meetings, he's
the same guy. You run into him at the Quarter
in Marymont and you're having a dinner and he and
his wife walk in, He's the same guy. He's authentic
(01:02:32):
and real and what you see is what you get.
He's a winner. He's not a self promoter. He cares
about his people, the team, the organization, and the community.
He's adopted Cincinnati. His family loves it here. He has
little kids that now have circle of friends and schools
and whatnot. And you know, I've always said that in
(01:02:53):
this town, that's a key part of being a successful
head coach is to adopt this city. That if you
adopt this city, this is going to put its warm
embrace around you and want for you to have nothing
but success. Marvin certainly experienced that for a very long time.
And you know, you look at Sam Weish, you look
(01:03:13):
at some of the college Purchase and Xavier in UC
you know that's sort of they live here year round.
They're not just flying in and the family somewhere else. No,
Cincinnati is home. Yeah, Monday night seems weird. I know
this was it was either going to be Monday or
Tuesday kind of can you walk us through how they
select winning? Where I know how they select where you're
(01:03:33):
going to play a qualify for that, How do they
select win?
Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
This is forty five on Monday, seems weird. Well, there, they.
Speaker 5 (01:03:39):
Want to get all the playoff games in this first
round on TV, so that fans sort of the opposite
of the regular season where they're all on all the
same time. Here in the postseason they're all on at
different times. So they want the fans to be able
to watch all the playoff games, which I think is
a good idea, and they want to do them there
for as double headers where every night there's an Eastern
(01:04:00):
Conference playoff match followed by a Western Conference and a
little bit of the earlier times not only allows that
West Coast match to follow at a time that maybe
people in the Eastern time zone can watch, but also,
if you think about it, it's a school night, so
kicking off a little bit early six forty five does
allow people to get home a little bit earlier, you know,
(01:04:22):
get the kids to bed, whatnot.
Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
It's a school night.
Speaker 5 (01:04:24):
So I'll say, personally, I don't mind the earlier time
for that reason. I think it does make it a
little bit easier for the fans, although you do have
to remember if you're going to be watching like you're
not thinking it six forty five, I have to turn
on the f C Cincinnati game.
Speaker 4 (01:04:36):
It's it's a little bit different.
Speaker 5 (01:04:37):
I guess also this time year where it gets cooler,
the later we get it's it's nice to have a
better opportunity for warmer weather. I would I would say,
you know, I went, you guys beat Miami six to one,
and I put on social media that night, this is
the best soccer team I've ever watched. And then like
two weeks later, I pulled the sword and then things
started to unravel a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
So I've had people in my life blame me.
Speaker 5 (01:04:57):
Well, no, I would say that, I don't know that
we have a better advocate in the Cincinnati media than you,
So I'm certainly not going to go there. Okay, Well,
I do appreciate that six forty five it's best of three.
FC Cincinnati two. Now, I think there are some casual
followers of the sport or the club who might not
be aware of I guess, first of all, what FC
(01:05:17):
Cincinnati two is.
Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
But for the first time they qualify for their postseason. Yes,
so FC.
Speaker 5 (01:05:22):
Cincinnati two for sports fans would be like double a baseball,
you know, for the Reds, and it is our farm team,
if you will, a lot of our kids who are
in our academy work their way up, and in some
cases we have sixteen and seventeen year olds playing in
these professional games. But in other cases we've signed players,
(01:05:45):
whether there are college draft picks who aren't ready yet
or other parts of the country of the world, but
we sign them. They're looking for their shot to make
the big leagues, to make the first team. No different
than the Reds and so f C Cincinnati two. You know,
when we hired Chris and Pat, we said, listen to
(01:06:06):
the example I used literally in the interview process with
Chris Albright is Hey, listen, it's like I'm hiring you
as a surgeon to run my hospital.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
I literally use this.
Speaker 5 (01:06:18):
But before I need you to run the hospital, I
have a patient, a very important patient in the ICU,
and I need you to make sure that that patient survives.
That's the first team. The first team is very sick,
it's been very unhealthy, and I need you to do that.
Then once you stabilize that I need you to run
(01:06:38):
the hospital. I use that example to say it took
a few years where the whole focus was on the
first team. Now we've made the playoffs three years in
a row. The league created this reserve, so yes, we
have FCC two. The first couple of years, we didn't
pay a lot of attention to it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
We had to have a team.
Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
We had players, again, mostly academy players or draft picks,
but not real key sign We just didn't prioritize it.
This year we really prioritized it last offseason. This year
the FCC two comes first place in the Eastern Conference,
I think the third best record overall, made the playoffs.
(01:07:15):
We have players who are contributing to the first team,
like Doto Valezuela, who came from FCC two. Just as
an example, Roman Celatano, when he started his career with US,
played for the second team Ala con got injured. Roman's
ready to go and obviously, like Louke Garrett out never
looks back. So it's a very important part of our
(01:07:37):
development program as well as the academy. Our academy teams
are rated as among the best academies in the Major
League soccer. We have players that are highly rated that
are playing on youth national teams at different age groups,
some US national, some in other countries where maybe they
have family that originally in other countries and they have
(01:08:01):
an opportunity to play there. All of that is a
part of an ecosystem, which you know when you're a kid.
I was a kid growing up playing baseball. I wanted
to be on the big red machine. I never made it,
but dreaming big served me well. And so given these
kids the opportunity to dream big and think that they
have a shot, and they work hard towards their goals,
those are good life skills. Hopefully they'll have a chance
(01:08:22):
to play at the Stagia. See here's the difference between
you and I. You were encouraged to dream big. I
was told why don't, Why don't you set your expectations
pretty modestly, And so that's why I'm sitting here on
top of everything happening on the pitch. The Thanksgiving Day
Race is gonna end at TQL Stadium this year, which
is really cool. Yes, so the Thanksgiving Day Race, obviously,
(01:08:42):
Julius Ferdin has been such an amazing steward of that race.
I think consider her one of Cincinnati's favorite daughters, and
she wanted to get the race with a new vibe,
so she brings it to TQL Stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
The race starts at the outside, but at.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
The stadium and finishes at the stadium where you get
you come in the stadium there at the end, and
then there's a big party afterwards. And it's one of
since one of the country's most historic ten k's and largest.
Last year, eleven thousand people walked and run the race
Western and southern of course the ten k, but then
(01:09:24):
there's a Chick fil A five k and a pro
am pack kids run. The kid's fun run starts at
eight thirty. The other two races nine o'clock, so I know,
the night before Thanksgiving is a little bit of a
social night Wednesday night, so you don't have to get
up too early nine o'clock down at the stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
You can walk.
Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
I say this, anyone can walk without any training. Can
walk a five k. You know, maybe the ten k
you got to do a little bit of prep, but
you can walk it as well. And it's such a
great family environment. Just as the example last year was
the first year, do it again this year where my
kids who are coming home from living in different cities
across the US, we all walk it together. You know,
(01:10:04):
maybe there's a little jogging in there, but probably not
too much. But you know, you think about what Thanksgiving
is in terms of family and obviously a big meal,
but to do a healthy activity ahead of time, I
think makes it just a really fun and more complete
Thanksgiving Day race. We're proud to be a part of it.
It's such a wonderful Cincinnati tradition. Want to invite everyone.
Thanksgiving Day Race dot com is where you can sign up.
(01:10:27):
Awesome Monday Night's going to be a lot of fun.
Hopefully it's a long run. And you brought the supporter
shield last year, so I asked you to do this
and then obviously things didn't work out the way we
would wish. But I still want to drink from the
MLS cup. I'm counting on Okay, you and I all
right done? I want to drink from the MLS car.
Can we do it at at at the stadium? Yes,
(01:10:48):
we'll do it like right there, Fine, yes, sure, MLS
and then we'll also bring it in and then we
can also do it in studios.
Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
That would be let's do it in real time.
Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Done.
Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
I'm I'm I will be parched until then.
Speaker 5 (01:11:01):
Okay, all right, thanks so much, good to see, good
luck always great, All right, good stuff. Jeff Birning FC
Cincinnati in the MLS Cup Playoffs on Monday night, Game
one against New York City. Let's pivot from that to
our guy, Dan Klaskins, Fantasy football help get sportsinfo dot
com on x at Dan Klaskins. Uh, I'm now five
and two and two and five, I've got some life
(01:11:21):
in the one league.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
I'm now tied for first and the other. I know
you've been waiting to find out an update.
Speaker 15 (01:11:27):
Yes, yes, we're only halfway through, so we've still got
a whole bunch of season last so maybe uh you'll
find the regression to the norm here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
The tats are more. Yeah, you're overachieving.
Speaker 5 (01:11:42):
That's the only only area in my life where I've overachieved.
As we get said for week, we get a full slate,
no buys this week. Give me some passing points to ponder.
Speaker 15 (01:11:53):
Yeah, let's start with j Stround.
Speaker 7 (01:11:55):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:11:55):
He's a guy.
Speaker 15 (01:11:55):
We're all excited about that, that assumational rookie year, but
only two top twelve QB one performances this season.
Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
That's a rate of just twenty nine percent.
Speaker 15 (01:12:04):
Last year QB one rate of fifty three percent. There's
are a lot of variables to it, but a lot
of it's that tough schedule. High liking the bounce back
this week a great matchup Forst. Indianapolis. We look at
the rams A team playing tonight MO. They scored eleven
touchdowns this year. Just three of those have come via
the pass. That's twenty seven percent of the overall touchdowns.
Lowest rate of touchdowns coming from passing since twenty eleven
(01:12:27):
has been thirty seven percent. That was the twenty sixteen
Buffalo building. Finally, on the flip side, the Jags D
and how they struggle against the pass after Drake May
lit them up last week in London finishes QB eight.
That marked the eighth or excuse me, the seventh straight
week in seven weeks more they've allowed a top twelve quarterback.
(01:12:48):
So really everybody except that Shawn Watson who they played
in Week two finishes QB eight. More So, start those
quarterbacks all season long versus jag D.
Speaker 10 (01:12:58):
This week, that's Jordan.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
Jordan Love very good. One of my two QBS on
a team. Let's take a look at some of the
Week eight injury situations.
Speaker 15 (01:13:07):
Let's start with the night's big injury news, and we'll
start with the good news on the Rams side, Grooper
Cuff he's already been cleared. We will see him return tonight.
You're dealing with that high ankle issue. With all the
stuff we're going to talk about, a receiver and everything else,
I can't imagine where you're not putting him in lineup.
The Rams just within the last couple hours here have
officially activated Puka Nakua, who's been dealing with a knee issue.
(01:13:30):
So it does look like he will be activated. How
much he played tonight remains to be seen. It could
be one of those limited situations. We have more clarity
on the other side of it, where the Vikings they
have ruled out tight MTJ Hockinson. It didn't look like
he had a chance to return. Good news is Hockinson
should make his twenty twenty four debut in Week nine.
(01:13:51):
Elsewhere injuries, nobody hits harder than the Bucks. Both of
their stud receivers Mike Kevin and Chris Godwin injured in
last week's matchup. First Baltimore hamstring issue for Evis I
expecting to miss a few weeks, would probably return after
that week eleven By not as good news for Chris
Goveny's out for the season, as is the forty nine
ers Brandon Ayuk with the knee injury. Two really tough
(01:14:13):
drops and cuts for people out there. I'm sure Deebo
Samuel will see if he can return to action this week.
His hospitalized recently as Tuesday for pneumonia. I expect dk
Metcalf to miss this week, maybe more with the NCL
spring say Flaers, you had to practice this week. He's
dealing with an ankle issue.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
With the Browns on.
Speaker 15 (01:14:29):
Top of the Ravens, who really need to rush him back,
I doubt it. Chris and Lobby with hancussions trending in
the right direction. Jonathan Taylor with his ankle issue is
as well. The big news at quarterback, Jayden Gan hasn't
practiced all week. The Bengals got bumped down at one
o'clock so we can all watch Caleb versus Jayden, but
it looks like it might be Caleb versus Marcus unless
Daniels can practice on Friday and everybody rooting for two
(01:14:52):
attag of a load a clear concussion for protocol, especially
Tyreek Hill owners who have gotten nothing out of their
first round pick in his absence. It's trending in the
right direction. Of course, Tygy Hill shown up today at
the limited participate with the foot issues.
Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Let's keep our eyes.
Speaker 5 (01:15:06):
On mat Till pridea Mo Dan Klaskins, Good Sportsinfo dot
com give me your weekly studs, Dudge and sleepers.
Speaker 15 (01:15:14):
Well, let's start with our old friends Joe Mixon. I mean,
here's the guy.
Speaker 7 (01:15:17):
Escored on these twenty six PPR.
Speaker 15 (01:15:19):
Points, and he saves the three complete games he's played
in pool this season and in the games we're used
in his head, Joe Mixon, They've run the ball sixty
one percent of the times of their red zone played
compared to just forty one percent of its residone played
without mixing. It's pretty clear the Euston Texans want to
run their offense through Joe Mixon. This week, WHESUS Indianapolis
makesing my number two running back and they must edge
(01:15:41):
down the stretch. Jayden Reid has been quietly probably one
of the most least talked about top receivers in fantasy
he's been a little dinged up. I like him be
able to play this week and if he does, till
take advantage that Jacksonville be we just talked about. He's
one of my favorite receiver plays on the dud side.
Patrick Mahomes certainly has the top the list. He's thrown
two more interceptions and touchdowns this season. He's a clipped
(01:16:03):
twenty Fantasy points once all year. He's yet to finish
as a top ten quarterback in any single week of
the season. Now he gets to face the Raiders d
on the road that's held him under two hundred and
forty one yards and a touchdown in two of his
last three. Yeah, it's time to sit my home. I'm
sitting Ramandre Stevenson to one hundred percent. Don't like the
massive person Jets and my speakers. I like Caleb Williams.
(01:16:24):
We talked about that matchup. He's a healthy quarterback. I
think he's going to have a big day. And I'm
really pretty excited too about lead my cockey, not just
this week but the rest of the season for the
Chargers of the rookie really coming to his own is
going to make the most of that matchup versus the
Saints that the Chargers that to get healthy offensive.
Speaker 5 (01:16:40):
Week overall, not the most inspiring thing for me when
I had both of your duds in the same starting lineup,
So I've got to make some adjustments.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
The annual DAV five K.
Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
Is coming up on November the ninth, and I know
you're inimately involved for those who might not be aware
of what's going to be happening.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Phill Us in Yeah, really appreciate that.
Speaker 15 (01:17:01):
Yeah, DAV Disabled American Veterans Organization, I'm being part of

for national headquarters right here in earl Anger. But we're
having our walk overroll a run a Ride is our
thirteenth year of an Americans Veterans. It's November ninth, Veterans
Day weekend. Veterans can register for free. We would really
(01:17:23):
like people register and help us raise funds and awareness
for BAV so we can help more veterans. You can
volunteer bunch of stuff about DAV five k dot org
to get more info.
Speaker 5 (01:17:33):
That again is DAV five k dot org and of
course Dan's website get sportsinfo dot Com.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
Appreciate it always, my man, thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
Always appreciate it. Good luck to you. Enjoy the game.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
Really good one should be a good one something, Yeah,
no doubt, Dan Klaskins Good Sportsinfo dot Com.
Speaker 4 (01:17:51):
Chris Whittingham on the call.
Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
Monday night, Fccincinnati hosting NYCFC. He'll join us next Orthosincmo
Egger Show ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 4 (01:18:01):
Who will be crowned King.
Speaker 6 (01:18:02):
Of the Curl.
Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
No one covers the Bengals like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's
sports station.
Speaker 5 (01:18:09):
All right, there you go, five after five ESPN fifteen thirty.
Imlayor thank you so much for listening today. We have
been busy and it continues. FC Cincinnati has to wait
the MLS Cup playoffs. The two wild card games are
behind this and son, so now easy for me to say.
The playoffs about to begin in earnest. Starting tomorrow night,
(01:18:29):
Leannel Messi will make his MLS postseason.
Speaker 4 (01:18:32):
Debut first Round.
Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
By the way, the first match of the opening round,
you could watch for free on Apple TV or online
at TV dot Apple dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
That includes Monday night.
Speaker 5 (01:18:43):
FC Cincinnati will host New York City first game of
a best of three series.
Speaker 4 (01:18:48):
Six forty five is when the game starts and joining us.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
I was so excited to have Chris Whittingham on with this,
and and then I went to his X feed and
he's he's got his prediction for the entire MLS Cup playoffs,
and he has our team losing so reluctantly high Chris, oh.
Speaker 16 (01:19:07):
Man, I guess that's why on College Game Day they
don't have Kirk Curstreet picked the game that he's calling,
because then you guys are gonna think I'm hopelessly biased
to get No, it was just a way that it
was just the way that I looked at the bracket
and how I saw the game now I see the series.
I was really mostly just trying to look for an
upset somewhere in the East. I didn't think it was
coming from Miami or or from Columbus. And I do
(01:19:30):
think there was a slight bit of concern about the
way that Cincinnati entered the playoffs from a form standpoint.
Speaker 8 (01:19:35):
So that's why I went for it. I mean no
harm by it, I promise I.
Speaker 5 (01:19:38):
Totally understand, and it's a completely fair perspective. We were
talking earlier, you know, FC Cincinnati's last game against Philadelphia
didn't have anything any bearing on their postseason seeding. They've
been locked into the three for a while, and yet
I felt like it was badly needed, if for no
other reason, just to rid the taste that was in
everybody's mouth from the previous few weeks with the way
things are kind of unfolded and unraveled.
Speaker 8 (01:20:01):
Yeah, I mean, you look at since match day twenty three.
Speaker 16 (01:20:03):
FC Cincinnati closed the season with three wins in their
last twelve games.
Speaker 8 (01:20:08):
There's seven defeats in that bunch as well, and there
just seems to be a search for an answer that
had been there during the summer. If you looked during
the summer, the run of form is absurd.
Speaker 16 (01:20:17):
A seven game winning streak, nine wins and ten eleven
wins in fourteen, or excuse me, twelve wins in fourteen,
and there really were some real continuity there.
Speaker 8 (01:20:27):
And Cincinnati for.
Speaker 16 (01:20:28):
Me, or a team that I've always felt we're always
there to find a way, and it's kind of remarkable
how much that narrative turned from when the club began,
but the last two years under Pat Nowtan, there's always
a solution, there's always a way to find that key
goal and a key moment, and yet there's just something
about the way that they closed the season that just
has me that.
Speaker 8 (01:20:46):
Little bit worried. I think the biggest reason why is
Lucho Acosta is doing his thing. He's having another great season.
Speaker 16 (01:20:53):
I think if Cincinnati had finish a little bit higher
up the table and won a few more games, it
would have been a more serious conversation about him winning
the MVP.
Speaker 8 (01:21:00):
I think the question is is that Cincinnati in the.
Speaker 16 (01:21:02):
Past have had those secondary and tertiary answers to figure
out how to score goals, and I just don't think
there's that one reliable player that's doing that job alongsign
him right now.
Speaker 8 (01:21:12):
So that is my concern for them going into these playoffs.
Speaker 16 (01:21:15):
And obviously the Miaska absence, the Hackland that absence, they've
found ways to replace them personnel wise, But the question is.
Speaker 8 (01:21:22):
Are they hitting the same level? And you have to say,
based on the results that there's still work to do there.
But maybe the playoffs is the best time to find
that run of four.
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
Those concerns would be there regardless of opponent. What does
New York City do specifically that presents.
Speaker 16 (01:21:36):
A problem, Well, I think the biggest thing is that
they have found their stride. They also kind of went
on a really long run without winning a game.
Speaker 8 (01:21:44):
They win nine games without winning, and then they've found
a striker from probably their least likely source.
Speaker 16 (01:21:50):
They've spent a lot of money on attacking players, but
they found this costa Rican player, Jim Alonzo Martinez, who
has absolutely stepped up and I've seen him in person
a few times. Just looks like a player that is
ready to score a goal at any given time, has
that center forwards instinct, and he is really finding his stride.
Speaker 8 (01:22:06):
And I think there was always a team there that
had a lot of talent. New York City spends among
the most money in the league.
Speaker 16 (01:22:12):
They have a club that are affiliating with Manchester City,
and so they really try and invest in young players,
and the issue with that is that you don't often
have those players developed quickly enough.
Speaker 8 (01:22:22):
To win games in the here and now.
Speaker 16 (01:22:24):
But the problem with that is if they do figure
it out and that potential is found all of a sudden,
they have a really good team and I really like
their attacking pieces, namely Martinez. I mentioned Maxi Morales is
thirty six years old, and back for another run. That
defense is always pretty rock solid.
Speaker 8 (01:22:39):
I think that two met midfield of sands and parks
might be among the very best of the league.
Speaker 16 (01:22:43):
So it was always for them about finding pieces to
put together, and I do think that they've started to
figure out the best way to combine them. You mentioned
kind of being locked into a seat. They were also
really hoping for a good result elsewhere, if they were
going to finish higher up than the standings in that
final game of the season. So I like where New
York City is that I feel like they're in a
good position to take advantage of maybe some of the
(01:23:04):
Cincinnati weaknesses.
Speaker 5 (01:23:06):
I watched Miami and Columbus in early October, biggest regular
season MLS match maybe ever, and it just, you know,
sometimes you watch a game and you're like, you know what,
these are the best two teams And I hate to
say this, but it just it feels to me. I
don't know, I hate to say it, like if you're
looking at objectively, if you're looking at the East, if
I if you get the field and I get Columbus
(01:23:27):
in Miami, I like my chances.
Speaker 16 (01:23:31):
Yeah, I completely agree with that, and I think since
that he can definitely post Columbus to problem I think
there is they are the team that probably slow down
Columbus besides Miami.
Speaker 8 (01:23:42):
Even for me from the teams out west, I know
that form has a lot to do with that, but.
Speaker 16 (01:23:46):
Cincinnati Columbus is that game just has that extra juice
in it that can make what maybe is a talent
and an overall cohesion differential not matter. And so I
do think if Cincinnati get through this round and base
Columbus in the next round, even though it's a way,
it's a rivalry game and it's one of those where
it gets nasty and it gets different, and it it
brings that playoff intensity out of both teams, They're actually
(01:24:09):
gonna have rivalry games in both halves of the next
round because.
Speaker 8 (01:24:12):
Miami is potentially on a collision course with Orlando.
Speaker 16 (01:24:15):
But yeah, I actually think that if not for inter
Miami and if not for Leono Messi stealing all the headlines,
maybe the fans and Cincinnati will enjoy the fact that
Miami exists, because otherwise Columbus will get all of the
praise from all of the national soccer media because of
the way that they built that team, because the way
that it's coached by will Fornncie. The style of soccer
is so good, and so I do think that Columbus
(01:24:37):
are kind of unfortunate that they are still winning trophies.
They're having a great time, but they're not maybe getting
that national limeline because Messi takes up so much to
the oxygen and deservedly so.
Speaker 5 (01:24:46):
And I sort of feel like here and I'm guilty
of it, we sound like spoiled children. NFT Cincinnati is
a three seed. They've had, relatively speaking, a really good year.
They've dealt with injuries, they've they've got home field in
the first round of the postseason, will give them more
than a puncher's chance in the second round no matter
who they play. And we're kind of entering the postseason
(01:25:07):
with frownie faces. We're spoiled here at Chris and maybe
we shouldn't be.
Speaker 16 (01:25:11):
Yeah, I mean, it's it serves as a reminder of
what life was like before Pat Nouta the company took over.
And you know, this is a team that was historically
bad in the history of Major League soccer. Despite all
the infrastructure that was there, despite all the support that
there is in Cincinnati, it's become one of the very
best markets.
Speaker 8 (01:25:27):
I can't wait to go back.
Speaker 16 (01:25:28):
On Monday, because I haven't been this season, and I'm
really looking forward to seeing Cincinnati and that atmosphere person again.
But you have to remember that Luco Acosta was part
of a team that was among the very worst in
Major League Soccer, and he has engineered, along with the
coaching staff, along with the technical staff, that has brought
in a whole new group of players and the way
that this team has been built that all of a
sudden now they are a team that can compete in
(01:25:50):
the difficult end of Major League Soccer. And they finished
with the best record in Major League Soccer, and that
is genuinely something to celebrate for this club. The question
will be is can they can they rise to another level?
Speaker 8 (01:26:01):
They had that chance to do so.
Speaker 16 (01:26:03):
Last season and they could in Columbus ultimately going to
the final and winning it. And I do think that
Cincinnati need to find a different gear and it just
comes down to, in my view, those top level players
you bring in. Kevin Telsey, who was kind of meant
to be the Brandon Vasquez replacement, didn't get off to
a good start or got off to a good start,
but hasn't really continued that level of form, since who
are the players besides LaCosta and Autoschano that are really
(01:26:26):
going to be the ones that lead the way?
Speaker 8 (01:26:28):
And that ultimately is the big question that this have
to answer.
Speaker 16 (01:26:31):
But yeah, in terms of the level of joy and
in terms of what you can expect from an MLS season,
finishing fifth is pretty solid. The run you guys got
in the summer, of all those wins is powered on
top of each other, and they're all in kind of
different and more interesting ways time after time. Smashing Miami
six to one and probably one of the results of
the season.
Speaker 8 (01:26:50):
There definitely is a lot.
Speaker 16 (01:26:51):
To remember and celebrate from the season. The question is
kind of continue and obviously, if you're a fan, that's
what you want.
Speaker 4 (01:26:57):
We'll find out.
Speaker 5 (01:26:57):
Starting on Monday night, Chris has the call as Cincinnati
against New York starts at six forty five, the first
game of every opening round series.
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
Free to watch on Apple TV.
Speaker 5 (01:27:07):
Also find it online TV dot Apple dot com, and
obviously you can watch Messi's MLS postseason debut for free
online at Apple dot com or in the AppleTV app.
I'm glad you're calling this match because it means we
get to have you on. I appreciate the time, Chris,
thanks so much.
Speaker 8 (01:27:24):
Thanks Bo.
Speaker 16 (01:27:24):
And again six forty five on Monday, not the most
conventional start time, but I want to see those stands
full on Saffer kickoff.
Speaker 5 (01:27:30):
You know what, when it's October and you're playing outdoors,
if you can even get a shred of sunlight, that's
a good thing. So we'll take you in. Enjoy your
time intown. Have a great call, Thanks so much, Thanks Bob. Alright,
it's a quarter after five ESPN fifteen thirty on my
leggor bud Light five o'clock Happy Hour on ESPN fifteen
thirty thanks to our friends at at bud Light. My
weekend starts in forty five minutes, and then I have
(01:27:53):
to go to parent teacher conferences and then a bud
Light is going to be involved. Not that's but what
they should serve at parent teacher conferences. You probably get
more parents to go. That should be part of the deal, right,
parent teacher happy Hour. I think I just came up
with a great idea to improve the American educational system.
Parent teacher Happy Hour thanks to bud Light. If I
(01:28:15):
just showed up with like a six pack of bud
Light to parent teacher conferences.
Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
What are they gonna do to me? Might try that?
See if my wife's on board.
Speaker 5 (01:28:23):
We're on board talking with Robert Wintrob Bengals column and
Cincinnati Magazine is up. He joins his next ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 4 (01:28:29):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
This is Football Inninnetti, run to you in part by
blood Light and by Skyline Chilly on the official home
of the Bengals, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:28:43):
You heard Dan.
Speaker 5 (01:28:43):
Horde there and before we get to a Robert Wintrob,
who's standing by Cincinnati Magazine.
Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
Dan obviously, you know, getting ready for a busy weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:28:53):
He got uc in Colorado on Saturday night, which is
a late night kickoff, and then he's gonna call Bengals
Eagles on like a few hours sleep.
Speaker 4 (01:29:01):
And like, Dan is a unicorn and.
Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
An outlier in this day and age where I literally
have never heard anybody say that he sucks. Right, you
go on social media, and you know every broad Bob
Costas just took a beating for how we call it,
an American League Division series, And you'll go on social
media to al Michael's the greatest NFL broadcaster of all time.
Speaker 4 (01:29:23):
People will be crushing him.
Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
And you can find people who had crushed Marty Brenneman
when he was still the voice of the Reds. I've
never seen anybody do that to Dan, which is a
testament to a how good he is, be how likable
he is, and the reason I mentioned this, I retweeted
this today. Dan Horde the recipient obviously Dan you probably know,
went to Syracuse, named by the new House Sports Media
(01:29:46):
Center at Syracuse University, this year's recipient of the Marty
Glickman Award. Now Marty Glickman, a legendary broadcaster, was the
voice of the New York Knicks. He was the voice
of the New York Giants, He did some hockey, went
to Syracuse and was known for being a mentor of
younger broadcasters, and so they named this award after him.
(01:30:06):
I think it goes back to twenty thirteen and Dan
was announced as the recipient of this year's award, which
has been given to, among others, Bob Costas and Sean
McDonough and Mike Turrico and Beth Mowens, Marv Albert Dick
Stockton won it last year. If you go to my
Twitter feed, I retweeted their announcement. The way Dan found
(01:30:26):
out he won this award was awesome, but it is
extraordinarily deserving, and so congratulations to somebody. I'm no play
by play guy, but has certainly gone out of his
way to mentor me and excited to work with this
weekend in Boulder. All right now, our guy, Robert win
Trump is with his weekly Bengals column Cincinnati Magazine dot com.
Speaker 17 (01:30:45):
Hi Robert, Well, let me just throw in mo that
I also went to Syracuse. I also am a huge
fan of Dan Horde.
Speaker 4 (01:30:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:30:54):
I actually had a chance to meet and talk to
on a couple of occasions Marty Glickman in his dotage.
Speaker 4 (01:31:00):
But it was a highlight for me.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
And let me just add on to what you said.
Speaker 17 (01:31:05):
Nobody is more deserving than Dan of this award. Nobody
does a better job.
Speaker 1 (01:31:10):
The man is excellent.
Speaker 17 (01:31:11):
I think we all know that, and we're very lucky
to have him in the Bengals radio group.
Speaker 5 (01:31:15):
There's no question about that. Have you won any awards
from your alma mater?
Speaker 17 (01:31:20):
They gave me one for leaving, which I thought was
nice compliment. Nice, here's your diploment. Now, let's never see
you again. And once in a while they invite me back,
just slap me around a little bit more and remind
them of why.
Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
I left in the first place.
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
But otherwise we have a great relationship.
Speaker 5 (01:31:37):
Yes, my alma mater could not want less to do
with me. They're almost embarrassed. They actually they would prefer
that I didn't mention that I went to the University
of Dayton, and could you blame them? Let's talk about
the Bengals. You've written about him this week. They've won
twice twice in a row. They've won ugly. Ugly wins
count the same as pretty wins, but they've got to
(01:31:58):
be better offensively. How do they get better offensively?
Speaker 17 (01:32:03):
Well, given that you went to the University of Dayton,
the Flyers are the nickname there, and they need to
get back to flying a passing as in throwing the
football a little bit better than.
Speaker 9 (01:32:13):
They have now.
Speaker 17 (01:32:14):
That was just a nice little way to segue off
of your last comment. They do need to run the
ball more efficiently. That's what we saw them do in
the early days of this season. They seem like a
long time ago, and of course that was because they
were losing games, but their offense was clicking, and a
large part of that was because they ran the ball
very efficiently, not necessarily for tons of yards, not necessarily
(01:32:36):
even you know, as we always like to talk about
a commitment to the run.
Speaker 1 (01:32:40):
It wasn't even so much that.
Speaker 17 (01:32:41):
But when they did run, they were doing so efficiently.
They were getting it done wide and between the tackles,
and they've gotten away from that the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:32:48):
Part of that is the way they were defended.
Speaker 17 (01:32:51):
Part of that was a little bit of trying to
force a couple of passes downfield when they weren't there,
I feel like, and some of it was just I
don't know, bad juju hard to say exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:33:03):
You never really know what this team.
Speaker 8 (01:33:04):
It's kind of mysterious.
Speaker 4 (01:33:05):
Half the time we're watching.
Speaker 17 (01:33:06):
Him and seems like they're going great at one aspect
of the game or another, and then it just falls
off a cliff. So we're hoping to find, at least
for the first time this season, the game where they
play a good offensive and a good defensive game in
the same week. Wouldn't that be nice? And I think
it would, you know, start right up front by running
the football and getting back to that efficient way that
(01:33:27):
they were doing it in those first early games of
the season.
Speaker 4 (01:33:30):
So here's my silly idea.
Speaker 5 (01:33:33):
I you know, they dressed Jermaine Burton in the game
against Cleveland and they put him out on the field
for the neel downs. And I don't know what his
Pro Football Focus grade was for those neil downs, but
he didn't screw them up. I've maybe brought this up
to you before, but in the Kansas City game, you know,
they they had Peter with him. He connected downfield on
a pass, and like, I hear what people say about
(01:33:55):
his maturity and maybe he doesn't know the playbook, but
they are addressing him. If you're going to dress him,
why not use them if if for no other reason,
the rundown field and take somebody with him and maybe
clear traffic for the other guys.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:34:08):
Well, you know it's funny because I feel like coaches
in the NFL kind of get, you know, into their heads, well,
we're going to do X or why this week, we
want to feature this player or this scheme or whatever,
and then the game starts and somehow that all goes away.
Whether it's the heat of battle or the game script
or just you know, they just kind of forget about it.
Speaker 4 (01:34:25):
It's hard to know.
Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
It seems like Burton was in that sort of you know,
blide path.
Speaker 17 (01:34:30):
He was going to start to become more of a
regular part at least a little bit of the offense,
and then it just kind of fell off the map
a little bit. And I'm not sure why if they
thought that was a matchup thing. Obviously the Browns have
excellent corners, and maybe they just thought they wanted a
little bit more attention to detail out there. Hard to say,
but yeah, I think you're seeing the limitations of having
(01:34:52):
andre Yoshibas as their number three. Not that he hasn't
done a good job, especially relative to where he's been
you know, picked and his sort of you know image
coming into the league, but you know, he hasn't been
getting open nearly as much. There are some details that
have eluded him, and I think it's a guy who
they have a lot riding on, really, and if you
(01:35:13):
looked at the future T Higgins free future that is
in Burton, it really is kind of high time to
get him groomed and get him into the game and
let him take his lumps. That's fine too, but you know,
it might be simply the fact that if they were
let's say five and two and not three and four
and desperate for every game right now, they might feel
(01:35:34):
like they have a little bit more.
Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
Of a you know, a safety net to do that.
Speaker 17 (01:35:38):
But I think right now you have to see what
you got in this guy and get him on the
field a little bit more. We talked the same way
kind of about Jordan's battle a little bit when he
was buried and you know, they threw him right into
the deep end of the pool against the Ravens and
it didn't look great. But you know, he's rebounded and
had a couple of solid games since then, and he's
ramping up a little bit better, and I think you'll
see Burton start to get on the field. You know,
(01:35:59):
we have all these high hopes for these kids coming
out of college, but you know, unless you're a top
ten to fifteen pick, you have to remember these guys
have a steep learning curve and it's not that surprising
that he's not quite ready to take the NFL field
to make an impact just yet. But I think the
time is ripe for him to get on that step
stool and start climbing that ladder.
Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
All right, My kudos for Dan Horde. Took up some
of our time. So one more have they fixed? Have
they fixed their defense or did the NFL schedule makers
fix it for them?
Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
A little bit of both.
Speaker 17 (01:36:31):
H You know, you always like to throw the props
to New York and let them do that. And they
certainly played a couple of grim offenses against the Giants
and the Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
But and they'll have a much deeper test this week, there's.
Speaker 8 (01:36:42):
No doubt about that.
Speaker 10 (01:36:43):
But you know, there were some positive signs.
Speaker 17 (01:36:45):
The tackling has certainly improved, and that's where he looked
really first and foremost. The kind of effort that they
were putting out and covering those early games was, you know,
left a lot to be desired. They were missing tackles,
they were slow to the ball, they weren't all rallying
to the football the way you.
Speaker 2 (01:36:59):
Like to see.
Speaker 17 (01:37:00):
And I thought you saw that for sure in the
last couple of weeks at a much higher clip. And
that's certainly encouraging whether or not they'll be able to
necessarily bring down a player like Saquon Barkley on the
regular remains to be seen, but you know they've done
a very good job. They did a good job against
Derrick Henry until that last carry in overtime, which we
never should have seen. And you know, there was a
(01:37:21):
lot of talk about Nick Chubb going right back onto
the field and dominating the Bengals like he always did,
and he was essentially a non factor for most of
the games.
Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
So you know, they know what they're after.
Speaker 8 (01:37:31):
The Eagles right now really are.
Speaker 17 (01:37:34):
Entirely game planning around Barkley and if they come out
and want to establish the pass and you know, kind
of league Barkley as a as a decoy or a sidelight.
Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
That kind of plays into Cincinnati's hands.
Speaker 17 (01:37:45):
I feel like, So you know, I think it's that's
where the game will be decided, certainly in that particular
side of the ball. And you know, you have to
like the Bengals' chances to at least control him and
not necessarily give up the kind of ours that the
Giants did against the Eagles last week when they ran
for new three hundred yards.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
Good stuff. We'll talk next week, my man.
Speaker 17 (01:38:04):
Thank you so much, looking forward to it, and congratulations
to Dan again.
Speaker 4 (01:38:08):
Great jet, no question about that.
Speaker 5 (01:38:09):
Robert Wintrup read his weekly Bengals column at Cincinnati Magazine

and he's been on hold all afternoon, and we're not
here tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:38:33):
And I promise you here would he doing, Mike, Mike,
you're on the radio.
Speaker 5 (01:38:37):
Well, what are you doing? You're on the radio? Okay,
Mike is berating somebody. I was gonna let him come
on to talk about the World Series for a minute.
Speaker 4 (01:38:45):
Mike.
Speaker 5 (01:38:48):
It didn't work out the way we would have hoped.
Mike is okay. I'm rooting for his Dodgers. I think
the Yankee is gonna win the World Series. I go
Yankees in six. I think it's gonna be off fun
to watch these two teams play. And if you're not
into it, that's okay. We're into Chatting with one of
the experts from Orthos Cincy about a couple of Bengals

Speaking of Orthos, since we typically do this on Wednesdays,
but because of my scheduling issues, we've had to move
this to Thursdays. Each of the last couple of weeks,
we talk injuries once a week with one of the
experts from Orthos Since.
Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
The great thing about Orthosinc.
Speaker 5 (01:40:15):
Is they have specialists in locations across the Tri State
offering walk in orthopedic urgent care weekdays nine a m.
Speaker 4 (01:40:22):
To nine pm and on Saturday from nine am to
one pm. Learn more at.
Speaker 5 (01:40:27):
Orthosinc dot com. That's Ortho ci Ncy dot com. Doctor
Nick Gates from Orthos Cincia is with us. Let's start
by talking about Orlando Brown, and it feels like it
feels like we got reasonably good news because he came
out of that game on Sunday in Cleveland. We all
feared the worst and it was initially thought that maybe
he was dealing with a calf strain or what they
(01:40:49):
call tennis leg, which is something I've never heard of.
He has officially been diagnosed with a knee strain. Let's
start with tennis leg. I had never heard of that.
Speaker 11 (01:41:00):
Tennis leg. I'm not surprised you haven't heard that term.
It's not utilized a whole lot, but tennis leg refers
to a strain or partial tear of one of the
muscles in your calf, So that balky muscle in your
calf just below the back of your knee, but well
above your achilles tendon, so you can strain or pull
that muscle.
Speaker 5 (01:41:20):
All right, Well, I had never heard that before. Now
I'm wondering if I've had Tennis leg before. Let's talk
about what he's actually dealing with here, what the diagnosis is,
and maybe you could walk us through the determining factors
that decide whether a player with this type of strain
can actually go out there and play well.
Speaker 10 (01:41:37):
I think I agree with you.
Speaker 11 (01:41:38):
I think it's good news that it's been kind of
modified a bit to a knee strain in the back
of his knee, which sounds like they're referring to kind
of a slight hyper extension of his knee. And that
area in the back of your knee is not far
from the calf muscles. I think a knee strain in
the back of the knee is actually probably has a
better prognosis for him for a quicker return compared to
tennis leg or a calf strain. The cap strains can
(01:42:01):
be really a nuisance and linger more. But I think
that they've modified to that to the back of his knee,
and when they called a strain, it indicates that everything stable.
It indicates that they're not mentioning any kind of corn
ligament or any instability in his knee, So that is
a good prognostic sign for him.
Speaker 4 (01:42:19):
Could this be as much about pain management as anything else.
Speaker 11 (01:42:24):
I think it is. I think it's the pain management,
and some people refer to it as pain threshold. It's
he's got to have the confidence in that knee. Obviously
what he's doing, not on the field. He needs to
feel like he has the strength. He needs to not
be thinking about his knee while he's doing his job.
So once that he feels like he has that strength
and stability, even if it's a little sore, that generally
(01:42:44):
kind of puts an athlete over to be willing and
ready to play.
Speaker 4 (01:42:47):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
I really feared the worst when Gino Stone was carted
off and he was wearing an air cast, And as
it's turned out, the news is relatively good. He's dealing
with a tibia contusion, which sounds painful. But I saw
him carted off in an air cast. I felt like,
we're dealing with a fracture here is doing something like that?
Is it just precautionary? Put the air cast on him,
(01:43:08):
get him off the field. And figure it out later.
Speaker 11 (01:43:11):
That would be my impression. He probably was hurting badly
enough right there in as tibia whatever he banged it on,
whether I didn't see the video, whether he hits someone
else in other player's leg or a helmet, that's gonna
be precautionary to get that immobilized before they get a
better look at him. It's a great sign that the
next day or soon thereafter, he seems to be up
and about. That indicates to me they've done their better exam,
(01:43:33):
they've done their studies, the x rays, or whether or
not they've done anything more significant, and now they can
kind of diagnose him as a tibial contusion, which hurts,
but it's not a tibial fracture. I think I remember
was the last week or two weeks ago we did
see a pretty nasty tibia fracture in the NFL. That
would be a much more significant amount of force as
you can imagine. So it is a good sign. I
(01:43:56):
think they were just doing that as precautionary when they.
Speaker 7 (01:43:58):
Get that spot on it.
Speaker 5 (01:43:59):
So I don't know that if there's anything more painful
than being kicked in the shin. Unfortunately, it's been years
since that's happened to me. Is that is that kind
of what this feels like?
Speaker 11 (01:44:06):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (01:44:06):
Tibby A contusion?
Speaker 11 (01:44:08):
Absolutely, you can. I might bump my shin on the
table edge when I walk out of this room today,
and that's gonna hurt a little bit. I might have
you kick me in the shin, and that's going to
hurt even more. But if an NFL player's helmet strikes
me in the shin or their shin hits me, that's
going to be even more. So that's definitely a pain
threshold thing. We'll see that a fair amount, and depending
(01:44:31):
upon the amount of swelling and discomfort, that'll definitely be
a pain threshold thing for him. But I do think
the next indications that we've seen come out seem to
be positive about that. So once he's comfortable, the good news.
It's not a muscle, it's not a ligament. So once
you've got that comfort, I think there's it's likely he'll
be back.
Speaker 5 (01:44:50):
So the next time I bang my shin on my
coffee table, I know what Gino is going through.
Speaker 11 (01:44:55):
Let's think what Gino went through is times ten nuts exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:45:01):
Deshaun Watson left the game with an achilles injury. And
what was interesting about it is I think like watching
it in real time and a replayer to everybody sort
of knew it's an achilles injury. I also feel like
we talked about the achilles and we really don't focus
too much on what the achilles actually does.
Speaker 4 (01:45:16):
So let's start there. What's the Achilles tendon and what
does it do?
Speaker 11 (01:45:21):
Well, it's pretty easy for anyone to see in field
or own Achilles tendon. What it does is attach that
calf muscle that we mentioned earlier in our conversation, that
gas struck or calf muscle that comes down and turns
into your Achilles ten in, which then attaches to your
heelbo That Achilles tenon is what gives you all of
your push off power from your calf muscle. Without your
Achilles tendon, you have no calf muscle function, so you
(01:45:44):
lose a tremendous amount of push off power. Even every day.
Joe is going to feel that loss of push off power.
You're certainly going to feel that loss if you're trying
to be athletic. So it's a tendon or a rope
that attaches muscle to the back of that Helbo.
Speaker 5 (01:45:59):
Can you tell that an as to suffer this sort
of injury just by watching, if not in real time,
maybe just looking at a replay.
Speaker 11 (01:46:06):
I not only can I, but I'm starting to notice
that my friends can. We've seen enough of them, and
with the advent of video and social media, some of
someone ruptures or achilles tenant, we can get any ten
different views with slow mo. So as I watched the game,
not only can I notice that they did it, but
my buddies are getting pretty good at that diagnosis as well.
Speaker 5 (01:46:28):
So I guess he and the team are exploring the
speedbridge technique, which is what the Jets, what Aaron Rodgers
of the Jets had done when he tore his achilles
week one last year, and he was able to practice
within eleven weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:46:42):
What's the speedbridge technique?
Speaker 11 (01:46:45):
Speedbridge? I think you and I may have had a
conversation about this sometime ago. It's a I guess, relatively
new but not brand new, minimally invasive repair of the
Achilles ten in rupture prior to that. For me to
repair that, it's a fairly lengthy incision to suture get
a strong enough repair of the two ends of that
tenon and pull them back together so they heal correctly.
(01:47:06):
This speedbridge technique gives us the ability to make a
smaller incision, pass those sutures in a minimally invasive way,
and still obtain that strong repair. The whole goal being
we still need a strong repair to allow us to
do that early rehab that you saw and Rogers go through,
but do that with a smaller incision. Smaller incision is
less post operative pain. Smaller incision leaves better blood supply
(01:47:30):
to the injured tendon to theoretically facilitate perhaps earlier healing.
That is true. So the speedbridge technique has actually been around.
It's got a lot of publicity the last couple of years,
but it's really been around for a good six or
seven years. We've been performing that for quite some time,
not just in your it's not just your NFL athletes
getting that done, but your everyday Joe and our pickleball
(01:47:52):
players and our college athletes are getting it done.
Speaker 5 (01:47:55):
Night there you go, Doctor Nick Gates from Orthos. Since
the awesome stuff, I say this every week. The great
thing about the people at Orthosincy, they've got specialists and
locations across the tri State including walk in orthopedic urgent
care weekdays nine am to nine pm, Saturdays nine am
to one pm, and Edgewood and Anderson. It's easier than
going to an er, and it's definitely cheaper than going
(01:48:17):
to an er. Whenever you have an urgent orthopedic injury,
check out Orthosinc dot com. You never need an appointment,
by the way, that's orthos ci Ncy dot com will
take a look at Thursday night football and the Bengals
and Bearcats games from a wagering perspective. Next on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
Speaker 18 (01:48:40):
Hear that it's the sound of a gourmet meal you
didn't have to lift a finger to prepare because with factor,
I'm heavy.
Speaker 9 (01:48:50):
Money here on the Vikings.
Speaker 14 (01:48:52):
I think they're gonna bounce back from a tough loss
last week to Detroit Duran's or just cut the mess
all around at a lot offensively from them. They should
get Cooper cup back.
Speaker 7 (01:49:03):
That will throw a.
Speaker 14 (01:49:04):
Little wrench into into the Vikings plan. But overall, I
think I think Minnesota comes out here. If you can
get them at three or two and a half, I
think you're okay.
Speaker 5 (01:49:14):
Let's talk about Sunday, Cincinnati on the road. The last
couple of weeks has covered as favorites. They're zero and
three at home. They've twice been heavy favorites and haven't
even won the game out right? Do things change on
Sunday against the Eagles.
Speaker 14 (01:49:29):
This is a tough one for me being new to
the area, kind of going against Cincy here on my
first show with you Mo. Really really love the Phillies
run oh, I mean they're fourth in the league right
now going up against that switch chief type rundee of
Cinthia coming. I think they're twenty fifth, twenty sixth in
the league. More concerned with the amount of pressure potentially
(01:49:51):
that the Eagles could put on Burrow in that offense.
So really like Philly right now getting the points.
Speaker 5 (01:50:00):
Ouch Matt picking against the home team Bengals two and
a half point favorites against the Eagles. I do think
it's going to be a heck of a football game.
We got a big one on Saturday night, my Bearcats
on the road as dogs against Colorado. Who do you
like in that late night big twelve tilt?
Speaker 7 (01:50:14):
Matt?
Speaker 14 (01:50:15):
I think it'll all come down to whether they can
get some pressure against sdar standers or not, they haven't
been great for Cinthy hasn't been great bringing the pressure
so far this season. So definitely the last to the
last two wins since he had were against some pretty
mediocre quarterbacks that backups at ASU and the true freshman
(01:50:37):
started that game for Central Florida. Overall, I think Cynce
the offense is going to put up some points. I
think Colorado's going to put up put up some points.
I think it opened that fifty six trending a little
bit right now to about fifty seven and a half
for a total. I like the over, even though since
he's struggled to cover the total recently.
Speaker 10 (01:51:00):
So like the over at fifty seven and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:51:02):
If you can get it down to fifty six and
a half, like it even better.
Speaker 5 (01:51:05):
Football weekends are always awesome at Turfway Park, racing and gaming.
Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
