(00:00):
I thought what we would do todayis reach out to another one of the
experts at Ortho Sinsey to talk specificallyabout Nick who is dealing with that groinstrain.
The great thing about Orthos Sinca Isthey have specialists on locations all throughout
the tri State. They also offerwalkin orthopedic urgent care during the week from
nine a m. To nine pmand on Saturdays from nine a m.

(00:24):
To one pm. You can learnmore orthosinc dot com. You never need
an appointment. Go to orthossinc dotcom, Ortho c I n c Y
dot com. Doctor Angel Alaska isfrom Orthosinci is with us, always kind
enough to lend his expertise Nick Lodolospecifically. So, we're dealing with a
groinstrain here, a left groinstrain. What are the range of possibilities we could

(00:47):
be talking about here? And arethere different grades of groin strains? Well,
you know, when you're talking aboutgroinstrain, the question is it's a
generali diam office, right, soand there growing there's different things that can
be happening. Obviously, when Ihear growing strain, I'm assuming when I'm
interpretating that that he does have anat ady doctor ad doctor tendo or muscle

(01:12):
tend on injury. That is thearea of the inside of your side.
So when he's a left hand thepicture, he's pushing off the mounds and
he got that pull over the insideof the side really close to your your
growing a private part area, andyou know that can be a strength if
it is that the main issue we'retalking about that we have something before about

(01:36):
ten of muscle tend on injury, and it's depending you know, how bad
or how extensive is that injury. There's grade one, grade two, grade
three if it's a muscle injury, the same thing grade one, grade two,
grade three versus tend on injury. But the tendel's take a little bit
longer. Sounds like it's precautionary becausehe looks like he's felt an in bookpen

(01:57):
session before the appearance, but didn'tbother him enough and he was able to
patch through the game. So youknow, Kobila, when you have a
calf injury, you know you areable to do things, but it's still
aggravated, and that's probably what theycall it precautionally. Obviously, they will
get MRI to see the degree atthe extension of the injury. But that's
what I'm looking at interpretative for whatthey say, do injuries like this,

(02:22):
if if they're at their most severeever require surgery? Is that something we
should even be thinking about long term? You know, a complete tendom pair
that is off the bond, thatwill be a grade three obviously, that's
something that you look at it asa possibility. I complete hamps intend on
injury, but a lot of thetime it is not complete, and they

(02:45):
are mostly grade one grade too,and they will reattached together and they will
heal together. And you know that'swhen you ask your questions, what can
you do to try to make thistoo quick to heal quicker? So then
you talk about you know, PRPingestions and you know other modalities to promote
healing process into the area. Buteverything is depending where the injury. You

(03:05):
know, me and my friends withdeath when I have done it for you
know, for the teen years ago. You know, any injury that is
a great two or or even more, you know we require that doesn't require
surgery. We talk about doing theyou know those type of ingestions to out
maintain the healing process and cut downaround twenty five percent of the of the

(03:27):
length of the that we normally lookor we expect. So, yeah,
there's there's surgery for some type ofinjury depend that if there's every retraction that
means pulling off the bond completely. But a lot of the times they're not.
And that's why you don't see toomany people with a hands fring injury
to get surgery or with an eightydoctor or ad doctor tend on muscile injury
to get surgery. So walk methrough what the most likely course of treatment

(03:51):
is going to be for Knick specifically, and maybe when we can expect to
see him back on the mound, well when he has You have some budy
will has an injury like this andit's a grade one strain and there's no
tearing, right, just a poolor even if it's a muscle grade one
litter tear on it or grade twolitter tear. You know, you number

(04:11):
one, you're gonna get the inflammationdown right, So you start with you
know, antifammatoryteroid pills to trying toget that inflammation down. You start working
with the modalities with the physical therapistand the analytic trenders you know, at
the ballpark, and I start workingwith exercises to start putting a threat in
to attend on the muscle to makea heel appropriately, and obviously working in

(04:32):
other muscle groups because of other musclegroups will compensay and will need to be
strong for the for the stress ofthrowing. So sometimes Mike balance of those
muscles will put stress because there's fatigue. So I think, right now it's
getting the inflammation down. Given thenext week probably to see how he recovered

(04:53):
if the MRI say that it's nota significant injury obviously, and then from
there get into a strengthening program.Remember the leg is the push leg,
right, but it's the leg thatyou actually stress. Is the inside of
the left leg that you stress whenyou are stressing toward the mound, so
it's toward the home plate. Soyou know, definitely is gonna put a
lot of stress. And we atthe beginning need to get the information down,

(05:15):
get the strengthening. If it's alow great traind you talk about you
know, fifteen, you know tomaybe twenty one day. If if it's
really light, he may be rightfor it, you know, in two
weeks, or he may take alittle bit longer if it's a great two.
You know, we always talk aboutyou know, six to ten weeks
if it's a great too or greattray grade three even more. But for

(05:39):
me, when I look at thisdiagnosis on the news, obviously there's other
things that are happening. Right. You have the you know, not just
the tend on there. You haveyou know, some area you can have
somewherenia, some somario that you canhave, some pinching into the joint,
you know. But when they dowhen they say that it's growing strength,
we're talking most of the time aboutthat eighty dollars ten in the inside of

(06:02):
the tide. Are there are therethings that could be done for an athlete
or you know, even just someonelike myself to avoid having this sort of
injury. Well, you always needto, you know, to be sure
that his leg is strong, right, are strong? So you're talking about
when you're doing this exercise, especiallyto the middle of the season. You

(06:25):
know, there's way to evaluate howhe's doing, when he's getting fatigue,
when he's getting tired, when hisarms lot change. You know, things
that the fishing costs and the anletictraining staff, you know, on the
physical therapists can look and see, hey, hey, you look that you
are not stretching too much. Youknow, you look that you are,
you know, changing how you're throwing. There's anything anything going on, and

(06:46):
you can do so much strengthening testingon both legs to differench shay, how
was it the beginning of the season, because they do before spring training they
evaluate the strengthening and they monitor intothe season. You know, if there's
a lot of weakness there, theymay have to start doing more strengthening to
compensate, you know, getting alittle bit of rest. That's what we

(07:06):
have the All Star break, right, so they can get a little bit
of break too. So there arethings that can be done to see if
there's any inclination of hey, we'reinclined that he's getting tired. Let's give
you a little bit of break hereon. There as always outstanding insight.
You always have the answers to myquestions. We'll do it again soon,
Doctor Rangel Alaskaz from Wortho, Sinsey. I appreciate it, man, Thank
