(00:00):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station, Bangals. What's up on Molegger.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty. Thankyou for listening. I hope you're having
just the greatest Thursday of your life. I don't know if it's the greatest

(00:20):
Thursday of my life, but sofar it's been a pretty damn good Thursday.
We have loads to get to today. The Reds lose again yesterday.
They did it in an hour andfifty nine minutes, so I guess if
if you're gonna lose, lose quick, lose quickly. They're now off to
Los Angeles, which is where youwant to go when you haven't won a
series in a month. You wantyou want to go to Los Angeles.

(00:43):
You want to play the Dodgers. You want to play perhaps the best team
in baseball. So Reds and Dodgers. That I first of four. We
are going to get to that injust a bit. More on Nickolodolo coming
up as well as he obviously notgonna make his start tonight because he went
on the injury list yesterday with thatgroin strain. We have the schedule release.
We have an FC Cincinnati victory, another FC Cincinnati victory to discuss as

(01:08):
the Orange and Blue victorious again lastnight. The Kevin Kelsey acquisition is continuing
to be awesome, and so we'llspend some time on that as well.
And we have another pair for thefourth straight day, another pair of Hooty
and the Blowfish tickets. Go seeHoody in the Blowfish at River Bend Music
Center. That show is coming upJune seventh. We are going to give

(01:30):
away tickets in the five o'clock hours, specifically at five thirty three. We
are going to test your knowledge. We did it with the Diamondbacks. This
week, we're going to test herknowledge of the shared history of the Reds
and Dodgers since those two teams playstarting tonight. The schedule came out last
night thanks to those of you whocame out to Bad Tom Smith Brewing.

(01:53):
There were awesome hosts. Second consecutiveyear. That is just such a fun
show. I said this to Tonyand Austin. We were talking about this
during their show. It's the sortof show that trying to explain this to
my wife this morning, because Isaid, man, that was a lot
of fun last night. I thinkit was a good broadcast, but it
was just a fun show, andI couldn't really accurately explain to her why

(02:17):
it was so much fun. Sowhen we do it next year, come
on out and join us. Butanyway, last night, bad Tom Smith,
we had an absolute blast. TheNFL has done the Bengals a favor.
So I'm gonna do what many don'tdo. A lot of folks,
the schedule comes out and gotta findsomething to complain about, gotta find something

(02:38):
to form some sort of conspiracy over. I'm not gonna do that because I
think the NFL has given the Bengalsa gift. What has been the Bengals'
biggest issue over the last couple ofyears, or at least one of their
biggest issues over the last couple ofyears, they get off to slow starts.
Notorious. Now, maybe notorious isa bit twenty twenty one, they

(03:01):
did not get off to a veryslow start, and that's one of the
reasons why they won the AOC Northand then obviously advanced to the Super Bowl.
But the last couple of years,oh and two starts. Can't do
that every year, can't do thatin a year with the idea is to
win the Super Bowl, right ifyou want to get the one seed.
It's hard to get the one seedif you start zero to two. So

(03:21):
the NFL says, here's what we'regoing to do. We're gonna throw right
in the middle of all this. We're gonna throw in a game against the
Chiefs that's gonna be tough, andit's a road game. So yep,
Bengals v. Chiefs because we can'tgive you four cupcakes early. Beyond that,
this looks like a college football schedule. You know how there are college
teams. They'll play like an SCSteam and then maybe somebody from the Group

(03:45):
of five, and then they'll schedulelike a game that matters in the non
conference. And I know this ischanging because leagues are getting bigger. That's
what the NFL has done here. The Chiefs game is going to be hard
right now. The Bengals are alwayscompetitive against him. They were with Jake
Browning playing quarterback on New Year's Evethis past season, so it's probably gonna
be a really good and close game. The Bengals do have a chance to

(04:09):
go to Kansas City and win.Right now, they're projected to be four
point underdog, so nobody is gonnabe surprised if it's a close game.
I don't think anybody's gonna be surprisedif they win it. But even if
they don't, the NFL is saying, you know what we're gonna do.
We're gonna give you Gerrod Mayo andperhaps Jacobi Brissett or Drake may that's what

(04:32):
we're gonna do Week one in yourbuilding. We're gonna send rookie head coach
and like the quintessential backup quarterback ora dude making his first NFL start.
Right now, Vegas sports books acrossthe country have Cincinnati as an eight and
a half point favorite. By theway, when this game first came out

(04:56):
first came out, there were projectionsbefore books at their lines that this was
going to be a ten and ahalf point spread. So this isn't a
road game against the Browns last year. This isn't the Pittsburgh Steelers. Remember
that the Borough turns it over fivetimes, had an appened dect tom Me,
so he wasn't at his best. But you had the folks who were

(05:16):
like, god, this is theworst possible possible matchup for Week one.
Okay, well, this is thebest possible matchup for Week one rookie head
coach and either a rookie quarterback orJacoby Brissett. Are you kidding me?
I'm gonna get either Drake may orJacoby Brissette and a rookie head coach and

(05:39):
a Patriots team that is, well, let's just say, a far cry
from those dynastic Patriots teams of mostof the twenty first century. Okay,
then they do have to go toKansas City, and I'll be honest,
I love the Kansas City game beinglate. But okay, fine, so
they're gonna play the Chiefs, whichis a winnable game. Austin made the

(06:00):
point last night of the schedule Leaseshow Kansas City wins the title. Kansas
City is the signature team in thissport right now, That's what comes with
winning. The Chiefs in the regularseason last year could not have looked more
vulnerable, including in the game theBengals played against him. Could not have
looked more vulnerable, losing at hometo the Raiders, getting beat a home

(06:25):
by Buffalo, losing at Green Bay, getting worked by Philly before the Eagles
fell apart, losing at Denver inthe middle of the season. That was
a nine to six football team beforethey played Cincinnati on New Year's Eve,
that was not a team that hadthe number one seed in the AFC.
They looked very vulnerable last year. Now they obviously were terrific in the postseason,

(06:47):
and they're a great team. PatrickMahomes is great, Andy Reid's going
to the Hall of Fame, TravisKelsey is awesome. Going and playing there
is going to be tough, butit's a winnable game even if you don't
win it. The NFL says, okay, cool, you've had such a
hard time getting off to fast starts. So not only are we gonna give

(07:08):
you the New England Patriots, We'regonna send the Washington Commanders to Cincinnati.
Now, Dan Quinn is not arookie head coach, but he's a coach
in a new place. The Commanderslast year ended the season with eight consecutive
losses. The Commanders have a rookiequarterback of their own and Jaydon Daniels,
So you might get Jaydon Daniels, perhaps in his third start, or Marcus

(07:32):
Mariota. Now, the Commanders havehad a good offseason. They've hadded some
pieces. I'd rather play the Commandersin September than maybe later on of the
year. But it's the Washington Commanders. It's a home game for the Bengals,
and hell, let's make it atnight. So you're gonna play in
this what I'm sure is gonna bea really emotional game against the Chiefs,
a tough, close game against theChiefs. They're giving you an extra day

(07:56):
to prepare for the crappy Commanders.Right now, the Action Network projects that
the Bengals are going to be nineand a half point home favorites against the
Washington Commanders. So the NFL issay to night, we threw that Kansas
City game at you, but buddy, you gotta be two and one.
I mean, you're playing the Patriotsand drawd Mayo and we're playing the Commanders

(08:20):
and Jade and Daniels as if that'snot enough. So what happens then Week
four they get sent to Carolina, maybe the least prestigious franchise in the league
two and fifteen last year, BryceYoung is still the quarterback. I'm not

(08:41):
sure how good or bad he's goingto be, but Bryce Young is their
quarterback who played on evenly when hewas on the field last year. They
have a first time head coach andDave Knaalis. Right now, the Action
Network projects the Bengals to be nineand a half point favorites. So in
the first month of the season, the Bengals have a home game in which

(09:05):
they're favored by eight and a half, a home game in which they're favored
by nine and a half, anda road trip to play a team that
went two and fifteen last year thathas a rookie head coach, and they're
projected to be nine and a halfpoint favorites in that game. Yes,
the Kansas City Chiefs game is there. But Buddy, after zero to two,
starts after two and three two yearsago, after what the Bengals went

(09:31):
through last year, if this teamstarts slow again, it's a problem.
It's a big, big problem.Uh, that's the part of the schedule
I care about most. There's weirdnessto it, and we'll talk about some
of the weirdness. When you talkabout the weirdness, to me, they're
not complaints. I got yelled aton social media for just pointing out some

(09:54):
of the weirdness. I love this, to be honest, Man's it's one
of the biggest issues the Bengals havehad. They can't start fast last year,
one in three, two years ago, two and three, both years
zero and two cool. We're givingyou three cupcakes early in the season.

(10:16):
We're giving you the college football equivalentof an FCS school, a bad Group
of five school, and then someother random team that you ought to slaughter
before conference play begins. Now afterthis gets pretty tough, the NFL is
hard. Week five is a gameagainst the Baltimore Ravens. That's not going

(10:37):
to be easy. I don't thinkthe Giants are going to be very good,
but it is a road game. The road game against Cleveland's always tough.
Philly comes here, They've had agood offseason. I still think the
good infrastructure that was around when theywere ten and one and two years ago
when they went to the Super Bowl. I think the Las Vegas game is
sneaky tough. At Baltimore in ashort week is going to be hard.
At the Chargers is going to behard. Pittsburgh's going to be hard.

(10:58):
At Alice is going to be hard. At Tennessee might be hard, Cleveland
here could be hard, Denver hereprobably not going to be hard. And
then at Pittsburgh, your guess isas good as mine. It gets hard,
and there's some challenges with how theschedule is constructed. So okay,
you get the soft landing of threePatsy's to start the season. If this

(11:20):
team is not three and one,Zach Taylor will have failed. If this
team is not three and one,Joe Burrow will have failed. I hate
to put it in harsh, bluntterms, but how else do you put
it. The team that has hadthe contending team, the team that over
the last two years, has enteredthe season harboring legit, bonafide Super Bowl

(11:41):
hopes, that has had them notextinguished, but has had them compromised by
slow starts, was given an absolutegift by the NFL. I'll be honest
with you. There's a big partof me that wishes the Chargers game was
early, because I'd rather play themin Somember than when they do, which
is mid November. But whatever. You can't start fast, all right,

(12:07):
fine. What we're gonna do isgive you a schedule that makes it impossible
for you to not start fast. The Kansas City game for me is a
coin flip. The rest of them. Cincinnati should win, and win handily.
Vegas is telling you as much Vegasprojections are telling you as much.
For what it's worth, I'm tellingyou as much. So there's my big
schedule takeaway. I walked away fromthis last night pretty thrilled. Okay,

(12:28):
I get Patsy's early, This teamwhich has had a hard time finding its
way, this team that, bythe way, the continuity has been disrupted.
Look at all the new faces. They're gonna be dependent upon some guys
who were not Cincinnati Bengals in twentytwenty three. So as you use the
first month of the season as thepreseason, guess what we're gonna do.

(12:48):
We're gonna give you teams on yourschedule that you should be able to beat
when you have ten guys on thefield. You might say I'm downplaying the
difficulty of teams like the Patriots,Commanders and Panthers, but relative to what's
ahead, relative to what they couldhave done, it could not be any
easier. And that's acknowledging they putthe defending Super Bowl champs in week two.

(13:11):
I am thrilled. Like I don'tthink most NFL fans express how happy
they are with the schedule the dayafter it comes out. I'm thrilled aren't
you five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty eight six
six seven oh two three seven sevensix. If this team is not three
in one barring you know, likehalf of the team getting something contagious and

(13:37):
not being able to play football fora month, I mean legitimately, dude,
how are they not three and onebefore the Ravens come here? And
if you're like me and you believethere are three wins there, just imagine
what it would feel like if theydo go to Kansas City and win and
Baltimore's coming here for a week fivetilt on Sunday, October the six,

(14:00):
It will be awesome. Anything shyof three to one, it's gonna be
a problem. Our phone numbers arefive point three seven four nine, fifteen
thirty eight six six seven oh twothree seven seven six. Show preview video

to the Reds who lost a gamein an hour and fifty nine minutes.
Yesterday they waste a terrific pitching performanceby Andrew Abbott and UH. I did
not get a chance to watch thebig debate, the big debate between Adam

(14:48):
Schefter, UH and Dan Orlovsky.I have not what I've I've kind of
purposely avoided it over the last coupleof hours. So they had a big
debate about t Higgins. We'll spendsome time on that as well. We
have a lot to get to todaybetween now and six o'clock. It's three
twenty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati SportsStation. Is anything you might have missed,

(15:11):
you can find it on the iHeartRadioapp. Old shows, Interviews,
great segment, great segments, segmentsthat we recorded and put it on the
website. Podcast of our showy serviceof Long Neck's Sports Grill. This summer

(15:37):
UH five three seven, fifteen thirtyis our our phone number. I
will do the Bengals T Higgins, the big debate that went viral because of
Adam Schefter. I've never heard AdamSchefter speak as passionately as apparently he did.
On NFL Live in regards to A. T. Higgins yesterday, and

(15:58):
I admit to having not heard this, and we'll get to why here in
uh in just a bit. Quitesimply. As for the Reds yesterday,
you know, Tony and Austin weretalking about, well, they lacked life.
They looked lifeless yesterday when the teamis not hitting, That's that's how
it looks. But it did reallyfeel, it did really feel like they
were in a hurry to get onthat airplane to Los Angeles yesterday afternoon.

(16:23):
Rids and Dodgers tonight. Let's behonest, man, this this feels like
it's this feels like it's it's alittle bit on the verge of unraveling.
And I know it's it's early ish. I know it's still just the middle
of May. I know there's agreat reluctance to write a team off before
it's played, you know, athird of its games. Look at the

(16:48):
standings, man, they're eight gamesat of first place. And I know
you can make the postseason as awildcard, but they're eight games at of
first place. They have to leapfrog four teams in order. They're tied
with the Cardinals. So I don'tknow if you leap frog a team that
you're tied with, but still youhave to figure out a way to win
a lot of games in a shorteramount of time than you did when you

(17:11):
had one hundred and sixty two onyour schedule. And you have to leapfrog
the Cardinals and the Pirates and theCubs and Brewers. That's not going to
be very easy. So it's wherethe Reds are in the standings. It's
the opponent the Reds play. TheLA Dodgers are going to run away and
hide in the National League West. They have the best run differential in the

(17:33):
sport. They have perhaps a historicallygood lineup. And not only do the
Reds play them this weekend, theyplay them next weekend in Cincinnati. It's
the schedule, it's where they arein the standings, it's how they're playing.

(17:53):
This team is not playing well.Andrew Abbott was good, and the
starting pitching has been fine. Asa general rule, it's been in most
respects slightly above league average. It'sbeen fine. At the beginning of the
season, we thought if the Redshad league average starting pitching, they'll be
okay, They'll be in the huntthey're getting league average starting pitching and in

(18:14):
some respects better, slightly better atleast than league average starting pitching, but
offensively they're just not good. Bullpenhas had some issues, Fernando Cruz star
turn has well hit a roadblock. And then there are the injuries, Like

(18:36):
there's there's nothing to hang your haton right now. And you could use
the injuries as a reason, whichI will do. You could use the
injuries as an excuse, which Iwill not do. But you know,
even if Nicolodolo is going to comeback pretty soon, it's just it's another
thing that you have to work through. It's another thing that you have to

(18:57):
overcome. And all the other guyswho got hurt are not coming back anytime
soon. Even the Noelve Marte countdown, if there's one thing you can count
down to specifically, it's Noelve Marte'sreturn. He still has thirty seven games.
He's gonna miss this. I hateto do this. I'm not I'm

(19:21):
not throwing dirt on them, butI mean, beyond just knowing that there
are a lot of games left inthe season, What's what am I supposed
to cling to? What are youand I supposed to cling to today.
This. If the Reds win threeout of four in Los Angeles, which
let's be honest, does not seemlikely, maybe that'll change things. But

(19:45):
today, when you just combine howthey're playing, who they're playing, who
they're using. I make fun ofthis on social media, but the red
starting lineup includes Jacob Herdaby's, ConnorCaple, and Mike for Would those three
guys be getting major playing time fora good team anywhere else? No?

(20:10):
And yet those guys have been inthe starting lineup, each of them each
of the last two games. Schedule, injuries, how they're playing, who
they're using, where they are onthe standings. I mean, just flip
the record. If you're twenty fiveand eighteen, which the Reds are eighteen

(20:33):
and twenty five. If you're twentyfive and eighteen and you have the injuries
the Reds have and you are hittingthe way the Reds are, and you're
playing who the Reds have on theirschedule starting tonight, even with a good
record, you feel like, Okay, this is going to be a rough
patch. The Reds don't have agood record. It's as they say,

(20:53):
getting late early. I mean,I don't have it in any more creative
way. This feels like it's onthe verge. If it doesn't change here
very quickly, and let's face it, if it does change very quickly,
it will change against the odds. This feels like it's on the verge of
unraveling. Man, And we're notthe Memorial Day yet. I know there

(21:17):
are one hundred and nineteen games remaining, but I've asked this question for weeks,
like how big of a hole doyou dig? How big of a
hole can you really afford to digand still maintain realistic hopes of doing something
meaningful this season. Let's just saythey go to Los Angeles this weekend and
lose three out of four, allright, that would take them from seven

(21:42):
under to nine under. I haven'twon a series in forever. The makeup
of the club right now just doesn'tseem very good. What am I supposed
to and like I beyond, hey, it's early, what are we suppose
to hang our hats on? Iget into this conversation sometimes with people who

(22:03):
will go, well, you know, teams have come back from eight back
and teams have still made the playoffs. You know from where they were in
last year. You know, theReds were not very good in mid May,
and then by the middle of Junethey were in first place. None
of those things really have anything todo with this year's team in the way
it's built right now and what injuryissues it has right now, and who's

(22:23):
playing for the team right now beyondjust time, what are we supposed to
take some comfort in? And that'sacknowledging the starting pitching has been okay.
It's acknowledging Andrew Rabbit again yesterday wasterrific, and Hunter Green. It really
does feel like the light bulb haskind of come on. Five point three,

(23:27):
We have no Bengals news today. No since FC Cincinnati wins last night.
Kevin Kelcey, after helping to jumpstart FC Cincinnati in their victory over
Columbus, scores in the seventh minute. The goal stands. Last night they
beat Atlanta one nil. That's fivestraight wins. FC Cincinnati is it feels

(23:52):
like they've survived a lot of stuff. I will be painfully transparent in that
I I don't follow the transactional partof what FC Cincinnati does all that closely.
Maybe I should, but it doesfeel like the new editions Miles Robinson
has been very good. Edlein hasfit in well. Kevin Kelsey's made an

(24:18):
immediate impact. I don't know howfeasible it was to bring back last year's
team, but if there was athere's been a franchise that I think could
afford to not be that aggressive inmaking its roster better. Feels like it
could be. FC Cincinnati have thereigning MVP. They have not rested on

(24:40):
their laurels. It is seventeen awayfrom four o'clock. I talked about the
schedule at the top of the hour. I focus more on the beginning of
the schedule. I think sometimes interms of the opponents, we spend more
time than we should talking about whatthe schedule is like at the end of
the season in May, because theseason unfolds and then suddenly what you think

(25:06):
is going to be really tough latein the year ends up not being as
tough, and what you think isgoing to be easy late in the year
ends up not being as easy. And so I'm always a little bit more
interested in what does the first monthlook like, especially in this day and
age. The Bengals are not theonly one where people talk about treating the
first month of the season like it'sthe preseason. I'm looking for something forgiving.
You could argue the last couple ofyears the NFL schedule makers were not

(25:30):
very forgiving to the Bengals early. The AFC North last year was really really
good. The Bengals started the seasonwith two AFC North opponents. They lost
both games, and so this yearI get three just rebuilding franchises in the
first four weeks, surrounded around aKansas City game that the Bengals are gonna

(25:55):
compete in. And I say thatbecause they typically when they have lost to
the Chiefs. It's not because KansasCity has blown them out. There are
some oddities, and when I pointthese out, I made the mistake of
just mentioning this. On social mediatoday and social media, especially Twitter,
everybody's just looking for a fight.I wasn't trying to fight anybody. I
wasn't complaining. I just it's Ithink. One of the fun things about

(26:19):
Schedule Release Night are finding the peculiaritiesthat exist with each team's schedule. The
Bengals have some peculiarities. For instance, they have a stretch where they play
one game in twenty three days fromNovember the eighth through the end of the

(26:41):
month. They play Baltimore on Thursdaynight, November the seventh, play the
Chargers ten days later on a Sunday, the seventeenth. The following week is
their bye week. So they're basicallygoing to have one game in twenty three
days. Well, that'd be reallynice for the players who are beaten up.

(27:02):
That'll be really nice for players whocould be coming back off the injured
list or IR. We call itIR in football. That is, it's
weird, it's strange. It getsfollowed up, though, by a stretch
where the Bengals are gonna play onSunday December the first, Monday December the
ninth, and then Sunday December thefifteenth, then Thursday, December the nineteenth.

(27:27):
They're gonna play four games in nineteendays. That stretch will be bookended
by AFC North games. It willinclude a Monday nighter against Dallas and the
Brian Callahan Bowl on the fifteenth ofDecember against Tennessee. Four games and nineteen
days. Now, there are alot of teams that have three games and
eleven days, or a lot ofgames in a tightly closer amount of time.

(27:51):
I can't wait for December. Bythe way, like I'm in the
sports talk radio business, December, especially if the Bengals are in it is
going to be awesome. You're notgoing to have to spend too much time
on the game that just happened becauseanother one is going to be coming up
really soon. Plus you throw intothe middle of that the Skyline Chili Crosstown
Shootout. Are you kidding me?I can't wait for December, but it

(28:11):
is sort of weird. They also, for what it's worth, have a
stretch where they play October twenty seventh, November third, then November seventh,
So again, three games in whatis that for three games and eleven days?
They have two stretches where they playthree games in eleven days. It's

(28:33):
sandwiched where I should say book endingis stretch where they play one game in
twenty three days, and then atthe end of the year, because they
play on Thursday, a home gameon Thursday, they get a mini buy
of sorts, especially if they playon Sunday, the twenty ninth against Denver.
That game is scheduled for either thetwenty eighth Saturday or the twenty ninth
Sunday. So it's it's kind oflike how I eat, Like if you

(28:59):
put a play the food in frontof me, people who have been to
dinner with me will tell you this, like I'll go after it and then
take a break and then finish upand go really hard and then sit there
and take a break. That's kindof what the schedule is like. And
again it's not a complaint, it'syou know, I made the mistake of
on Twitter today this morning asking likehow many times has this happened? Where

(29:23):
a team plays three games in elevendays? And it's happening a lot this
year, and it's happened before andI got yelled at for not knowing that.
Sorry. I love the December.I love it when there's a lot
of sporting events going on at once. Now November, from my perspective,

(29:44):
might take some days off. Weare gonna have the beginning of college basketball
season, but you're gonna get,as they call it, a mini buy
after they play the Ravens on theroad, and then you're gonna get the
bye week within two weeks of eachSo it creates a stretch where they're gonna
they're gonna play one game in threeweeks, one game over twenty three days.

(30:07):
Not a complaint necessarily, but frommy perspective, I like it when
there's a lot of stuff going on, and the bye weeks are kind of
tough. I view things through avery selfish lens. How does it affect
my show? How does it affectmy rooting interest? How does it affect
the stuff I want to do?I was selfishly rooting for the Tennessee game
to be on a Thursday because I'dlike to go to Nashville for a Thursday

(30:30):
night football game, as rooting forBaltimore to be a standalone where maybe I
could go to the game and Ican go to the game at Baltimore there,
So I do this very very selfishly. December is going to be incredible,
but from a competitive standpoint, it'salso going to be a challenge.
And it's not unfair to say you'renot saying that something's unfair when you say

(30:52):
that it's challenging. Every schedule providesunique challenges. Sometimes a team will have
three straight road games. Sometimes ateam the Bengals two years ago, they
threw all their divisional road games inprime time. Sometimes a team the Bengals
had this three years ago too, will have three straight home games. Sometimes
the schedule can present some really advantageousareas. Again, look at the Bengals

(31:15):
first four weeks, but that isgoing to be really tough in December,
where after the bye boy, theydon't get a break. Four games in
nineteen days, two divisional games thatare going to be really tough, A
Monday nighter against Dallas and the Tennesseegame is not going to be easy.
And there's going to be the emotionalcomponent of Tyler Boyd and Brian Callahan and

(31:36):
Bengal South. It's just that's whatI really enjoy finding the scheduling oddities and
they happen for every team. Theseare scheduling oddities. They are not complaints,
and every team has to deal withunique challenges. And frankly, the
better your team is, the morein demand it's going to be, so

(31:57):
the more likely it is to playon Thursday multiple times or play on Monday
multiple times. And the Bengals are, but there's there's some weirdness to it,
and that weirdness does present some Again, when you play one game in
twenty three days, you get achance to get some rest, especially with

(32:17):
the backstretch of the season in frontof you. That's good if you're playing
catch up or you're trying to figurethings out with your roster, because there
are a lot of guys who arehurt. Playing four games in nineteen days
is perhaps less than ideal. Sofor those of you following me on Twitter
this morning who accused me of complaining, and by the way, I'm sorry

(32:39):
at eight o'clock this morning, Iwasn't an expert on every team's schedule,
not complaints. Every schedule presents challenges, and every schedule has quirks and peculiarities,
and I think that's what makes theschedule release fun. At the baseball

(32:59):
schedule boring. Everybody plays each other, Yeah, unless you're gonna go play
in Mexico or play in the fielda Dreams game or Williamsport or something.
The NBA schedule is kind of boring. The NFL schedule, there's weirdness to
it, and it's why I likeit, not complaining. It is a
ton away from four o'clock. Yeah, even like like, I'm the opposite.

(33:23):
When it comes to December, youknow they're gonna, well, the
NFL doesn't care about player safety,of course it doesn't. You know what
I care about me. In December, we're gonna have NonStop stuff to talk
about. I cannot wait. We'rejust gonna have to overcome a pretty barre
in November. It's eight away fromfour o'clock. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports

(33:44):
Station. Travel back, ESPN fifteenthirty. What's up, Get afternoon?
I'm my wager. This is ESPNfifteen thirties. Thank you for joining us.
You know what we're doing today,I'm doing a radio show. But
we're not just broadcasting from a radiostudio. We're broadcasting from the ESPN fifteen

(34:07):
thirty studios powered by a Greater Cincinnati'sroofing at exterior restoration experts Maadewell Restoration dot
com. Freshen up your entire exteriorwith one call to the guys at Madewell.
Check out their website, Good dudes, Madewell Restoration dot com. Brendiman
and Jones on Baseball a little bitlater on Nick Lodolo to the injured list
yesterday. Brent Souter is going toopen the game tonight for the Reds.

(34:29):
They take on the Dodgers in LosAngeles, first of four. The Lodolo
News, he is being insistent thatthis is not going to be that big
of a deal. I take allof that with a grain of salt,
man, and not just athletes, not just Reds players. I take I
have a friend of mine who isgetting his hip replaced, and he's a

(34:52):
huge golfer, and the hip replacementit might be happening this week, huge
golfer. And I saw him abouttwo weeks ago and he's like insisting,
He's like, I'll be I'll beback. I'll be back on the course
by mid June. Okay, Ihope you're right. I'm doubtful you are.

(35:14):
I just you know, let's canI talk to your doctor about it?
So when Nicolodolo will insist I'm goingto be fine, I'm going to
be okay. I hope he's right, and I don't think he's trying to
hoodwink anybody. Let's just see howthis unfolds. I've I have followed sports
for long enough that when the athleteinsists I'm going to be fine, this
is not that big of a deal. I kind of don't even really pay

(35:36):
attention. So we're gonna learn moreabout his groin string with one of the
experts from ORTHO since he doctor angelVelaskiz coming up at four point thirty three.
Looking forward to that, I'm actuallygonna say something nice about the Reds
because there is something good that's happening. Imide all the losing, IMiD all
the frustration and all the angst andcriticism and a lot of it very well

(35:58):
placed. There is something that's happening, and we're gonna spend some time on
it. Whether we want to ornot, let's do this. I will
admit to you to having not watchedor listened to this, and I don't
pride myself on much, but Ido like to be prepared and so this

(36:22):
morning, I see Awful Announcing, which is a really good website kind of
covers sports media, sent out alink regarding a debate that took place on
NFL Live between Dan Orlovski and AdamSchefter, and they tweeted out a link

(36:45):
to the video, and they alsohad a story about the heated debate on
NFL Live and the headline was NFLLive heatedly debates T Higgins future. So
I see this this morning, andnot that you or anybody else cares.
I kind of had a really busymorning. You know what I did this
morning? I fixed a toilet,right, I could be a plumber on

(37:08):
the side. You know, DougGottlieb's going to be a college basketball coach
but also do a sports talk radioshow. I could be a plumber and
do a sports talk radio show. There's a better chance of me being able
to do both those jobs than DougGottlieb doing both those jobs. And he's
better at this job than I am, without question. So I had to
do that. Then I had ameeting to go to and just a lot

(37:30):
of stuff going on. I hada few other professional responsibilities. And the
reason I'm talking about this is everytime I went to go watch this like
three and a half minute video, something would get in the way. I
would have to do something, andit's the sort of thing I could have
listened to, and then I kindof forgot about it. So I get
to work and I have fixed thetoilet, I have gone to my meeting,

(37:53):
I'm eating lunch, I'm gonna sitdown. I got some stuff to
do. We got to show toprepare for, and I'm going to watch
this video. And then just everytime I went to watch it. I'm
sure everybody has been in a situationlike this. So as things got closer
to three o'clock, I know Tonyand Austin played the audio. I heard
their discussion about the audio about thedebate, but I didn't hear it.

(38:15):
So it kills me that something thatI think a lot of Bengals fans you
probably saw or at least heard,I have not, but I have to
talk about it. So what we'regonna do is play the audio. We're
gonna play the debate from NFL Live. It's about what freight tearin three three
and a half minutes. At threethree and a half minutes, this is
Adam schefter and Dan Rolofski as anybodyelse. Is Marcus Spears involved, Yeah,

(38:38):
Marcus Spears chimesing okay, very good. NFL Live is a good show.
It's typically on while we're on,but they replay it at night and
I often watch it. I thinkDan Rolofski's great, I think Marcus Spears
is really good, and Mina Kimesis terrific. It's a good show.
I just didn't get a chance tosee this, So pardon me if you
have heard this already, I havenot. If you haven't heard it,
we're all gonna, We're all gonna, and so this means I haven't had

(39:01):
time to form an opinion based onthe debate that we're about to hear.
And I whenever it's time to takea side on something, I typically like
to think things through. I liketo form an opinion, not just blast
off a hot take here. I'mnot gonna have time to do that.
So here's the audio from NFL Live. As these guys talk about t Higgins.

(39:27):
I have no idea if this isgood, if it's interesting, or
if it's really worth reacting to.But we're gonna do it anyway. Tarn
go ahead and hit it, boyd, And I will say questions of T
Higgins because he's going through the lastyear of his contract. He wants money.
He's not gonna get the money, but he's gonna get it from someone.
Okay, Right, So what's gonnahappen middle of the season, if

(39:51):
and when his knees creaky, hishamstrings tie, his shoulder sore. Is
he playing through those injuries weeks beforehe becomes a free agent? Or oh,
is he gonna be making a businessdecision. But here's the thing,
chef, Well, oh yeah, absolutely, you gotta go get your You
think a team is randomly gonna payyou if you're not healthy? What you

(40:13):
look he's getting paid? Nah,No, just getting paid if he goes
and plays the way that T Higginshas. You're gonna tell me if T
Higgins six or seven weeks in andI don't want to even put that out
in the universe. I want tosay, if he how many times have
we seen this play out? I'llgo back to Jaris Bird, a safety

(40:35):
in Buffalo where he had all kindsof injury issues, injury issues, becomes
a free agent New Orleans makes himthe highest paid safety in football. Somebody,
no matter what season t Higgins has, is gonna pay him, and
so at some point this year,I'm just saying I think there'll be business
decisions that are made. I thinkthere will is to play well. I

(40:57):
think a couple of years ago pointso the way this pison just calling in
from college football nowadays, I thinkthe different chef. I gotta be with
Dan on this one. I thinkthat particular position changes it because we are
seeing these dudes go for twelve hundredthey first year in the league. And
the problem is with a lot ofthese we just saw Stephanda's get true,

(41:17):
you know how few quality players hitthe market. What's a fair point.
That's a fair point. But whatis if does t Higgins have I get
it with injury now that but ifhe I'm with Dan, if he is
not motivated to go get almost twentysix million dollars a year, he's gonna
go out and play his best.Yeah. My question is every player gets

(41:38):
nick, but at some point theseason later on, if hey, how
many times does it guy questionable forSunday? My question is how many questionables
is he playing through when he's weeksbefore becoming a free agent. I think
that's a good point. I don'tknow man to know his character, so
I can't speak to that. Ido think that when you have a chance

(42:00):
to go win a Super Bowl, which is what since Cincinnati expects to,
I think that and a lot ofit is based on his performer, correct.
And I think we made this pointyesterday. Right. Two years ago,
Jesse Bates franchised by the Bengals. They didn't give him a deal.
He played out the season and thenthen went to Atlanta as a free agent.
Right, But in the meantime hehelped them get to the horse is

(42:20):
we're trying to get into T higginsmental makeup, right, Like we could.
We could draw on history to yourpoint, Like Jaylen Ramsey walked in
the building every day and said somethinghurt to get traded, right, So
I get that, we understand whereyou're coming from. But I'm like,
I'm not going to pretend to knowT Higgins and how he's approaching this house.
He's probably pissed off. But thereality is this shifty. The reality

(42:43):
is this for T Higgins, JamarChase on the other side, that you
know that you weren't going to bepaid like a number one mis organizations take
rookie quarterbacks that need to spend nextyear, and he just saw seven wide
receivers going the first question, itis a question to why my question was
about Joe Burrow, Right, Sothere you go. That was that was

(43:07):
a good segment. So that wasAdam Schefter and Dan Orlowski and Marcus Spears
and Dan Graziano. It's a gooddiscussion. Here's what I will add to
it New Year's Eve. This pastseason, Bengals are in Kansas City.
T Higgins suffered a hamstring injury inthe first half of that game. In

(43:31):
the second half of that game,he put himself back in without his coaches
knowing. That's not the type ofplayer who fakes an injury. I don't
know that there's anybody more connected inthe NFL than Adam Schefter, and so
whenever he says something, you haveto wonder where it's coming from. What

(43:55):
place of information is that coming from, Like this is not this isn't some
hot take artists, This isn't somelocal carnival barker like me. I mean,
there's probably nobody more plugged into AdamSchefter, and so if he is
saying it, maybe that's being talkedabout in NFL circles. You have to
acknowledge that all I can do isdefer to the track record with the franchise

(44:21):
tag coming, but also possibly freeagency coming if they didn't franchise tag him,
which let's be honest, wasn't themost likely outcome. T Higgins in
a situation where he could have onemight argue justifiably said I'm not going back
out there, willed himself back ontothe field in the game the Bengals had

(44:45):
to win. Now, as wehave seen before, perhaps most notably with
AJ Green in twenty nineteen, I'mled to believe AJ Green could have played
in the second half of the season. Remember he suffered the injury in the
first camp when they went to WelcomeStadium, which never should have happened,
and AJ suffered the injury. Theteam was awful that year, and so

(45:07):
AJ's out there late in the season. Remember he was out running routes and
doing stuff on the field before gameseven though he wasn't practicing. He probably
could have played well. If theBengals are zero to eight, then there's
probably gonna be all sorts of issuesthat bubble to the surface, and at
that point it would be extraordinarily unsurprisingif T Higgins or a lot of other

(45:27):
players decided, ah, yeah, you know that knee. It's just it's
different. Nobody expects the Bengals tobe in a situation where they're so non
competitive that at important parts of theseason, important points during the season,
a player is going to come upwith an injury or make a business decision.
So I can only I'm going tobase. I'm gonna go with two

(45:49):
assumptions. One is going to bethe Bengals are playing meaningful football games all
season long. Last year, theyplayed a meaningful football game Week seventeen.
I'm going to assume the Bengals areplaying meaningful football for the overwhelming majority of
the season. Even if they wereto not make the playoffs. It's hard
for me to imagine those games inDecember don't matter. So that's assumption number

(46:13):
one. Assumption number two is basedon what I have seen. T was
injured often last year. Tea wasnot as productive as you might hope.
But I watched that dude on NewYear's Eve. I saw him come out
of the game with the hamstring injury, and I thought, a they might
have to try to win this gamewithout him. B I'm not really sure.

(46:36):
I'm not really sure anybody could reallyblame him from a business perspective for
not going back out there, andthen see when he goes back out there,
thinking like that, that's that's notthe sort of dude that you assume
is going to quote fake an injury. And that did not get interjected into

(46:59):
the discussion, and understandably so itdidn't sound like they were really planning on
having a T Higgins discussion. Sofor me, I can only speak for
me. You can tell me ifyou disagree. I can only go by
what I've seen. I've watched everysnap of t Higgins's career. I've never
thought to myself that this is aplayer who's not motivated, that this is

(47:21):
a player who's going to put himselfin front of the team, or that
this is a player whose effort willbe compromised because he's upset at what's happening
with his contract. Nobody will besurprised if he doesn't show up for the
first day of training camp. Iwouldn't show up for the first day of
training camp. I'll be honest withyou, wouldn't playing him at all.
Nobody will be surprised if he doesn'tplay in preseason games. Not sure that

(47:44):
I would show up and play inpreseason games, but when the real games
begin, he'll show up for those, because he's going to make close to
twenty one million dollars when the realgames begin. I can only defer to
the track record, and his trackrecord is one of playing really hard,
playing selfless, playing when hurt, trying to play when hurt, and until

(48:06):
I see otherwise. That's what I'mgoing to assume he does. Now.
Again, if it's December and theBengals are somehow two to nine and the
season has gone totally sideways, firstof all, we're gonna be talking about
things beyond T Higgins at that point. Would it be surprising if he shows

(48:27):
up on the injured list with somethingthat wasn't an issue before. No,
it would be unsurprising. AJ Greendid it? I love AJ Green?
AJ Green did it? Until thathappens. If we assume the Bengals are
going to be at the very leasta factor in the AFC playoff race,
There's been nothing about this guy's historythat would suggest he's going to quote make

(48:49):
business decisions once the games begin again. If he doesn't show up for training
camp or for the start of trainingcamp, that's gonna be unsurprising. That's
not showing up for training camp doesn'tmean you're a bad guy, doesn't mean
you're a selfless guy. Not showingup for preseason games. Look, he's
not a player under contract until hesigns the one year deal that he gets
because he's a franchise player, sohe's not going to be fined nothing like

(49:14):
that. Nobody is going to besurprised at all if he takes the Jesse
Bates approach, completely understandable. Butwhen the games begin, based on what
you and I have watched from THiggins, why would anybody assume that he's
going to allow this contract situation withHe's I'm sure he's not happy with I

(49:35):
don't blame him for that. Idon't really blame either side here, but
I think at this point we wouldagree it'd be surprising if when the Bengals
are competitive, when the Bengals areplaying games that matter, that there's going
to be a phantom injury. Andthe reason I say that is what I
watched on New Year's Eve, whena player who pulled his hamstring put himself

(49:55):
back into the game. Willed himselfback in the game. Remember, Zach
Taylor afterwards said he didn't even knowthe T Higgins was back on the field
until he saw him on the field. That's not the kind of guy who
fakes injuries. Twenty two minutes afterfour o'clock, five point three seven four
nine, fifteen thirty is our phonenumber. So I'm taking I guess I'm

(50:16):
taking Orlowsky side. I'm team Dan. I'm taking dan Orlowski side. That's
a pretty good place to be.I like dan Orlowski. It's twenty two
minutes after four o'clock. I amway late. This is ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station, Cincinnati's ESPN.Hey, Brenneman and Jones, I
don't know what that was. Hey, Brendiman and Jones on Baseball's coming up.

(50:38):
Brenneman and Jones on baseball is comingup in like twenty minutes. Yesterday
was about baseball. Most of theshows this year have have been about baseball.
I have to get his back ontime. I have just completely messed
up the clock today. You knowwhat we have going on? We're eight
days away. Radio's Best Contest crownsits winner a week from tomorrow, May

gonna win both prizes. Think aboutthe how much that's worth, Like,
what the value is there? It'sinsane. Every River Bend show and a

(51:50):
brand new lawnmower. And by theway, we had a guy that once
won the lawnmower who lived in anapartment complex and he gifted the lawnmower to
his father in law for Father's Day. So I'm just saying it might be

let's get us back on time andtalk about Nick Lodolo's growing Next.

(53:22):
Cincinnati's Es, Reds and Dodgers playedto night at ten ten. Brent Souter
is gonna throw against Tyler Glass Now. The game live on seven hundred WLW.
No lineup is out yet. NickLodolo was supposed to pitch this game,
but he's not because he's got astrained left growing so he's on the
injury list. He insists he's gonnabe okay. We chat every Wednesday with

(53:46):
one of the experts from Ortho CincyOrthopedics. Yeah, we did this yesterday.
Yesterday was Wednesday. We had doctorMark Juhas on with us to talk
about well TJ. Friedel, andwe did some Joe Burrow and a Matt
McClain update, and then we hadjust found out about Nick Lodolo and that
was still sort of fresh, andso I thought what we would do today

(54:07):
is reach out to another one ofthe experts at Orthosinsey to talk specifically about
Nick who is dealing with that groinstrain. The great thing about orthosincy is.
They have specialists on locations all throughoutthe tri State. They also offer walk
in orthopedic urgent care during the weekfrom nine a m. To nine pm

(54:27):
and on Saturdays from nine a m. To one pm. You can learn
more orthosinc dot com. You neverneed an appointment. Go to orthossinc dot
com, ortho ci n c Ydot com. Doctor angel Alaska is from
Orthosincia is with us always kind enoughto lend his expertise. Nick Lodolo specifically,
So, we're dealing with a groinstrainhere, a left groinstrain. What

(54:52):
are the range of possibilities we couldbe talking about here? And are there
different grades of groinstrains? Well, you know, when you're talking about growing
strain, the question is is ageneralized diagnosis? Right, So, and
they're growing, there's different things thatcan be happening. Obviously, when I
hear growing strain, I'm assuming whenI'm interpretating that that he does have an

(55:15):
ad ady doctor ad doctor tendo ormuscle tendo injury. That is the area
of the inside of your side.So when he's a left hand the fisture
he's pushing off the mounds and hegot that pull over the inside of the
side really close to your your growinga private part area, and you know

(55:36):
that can be a strength if itis that the main issue we're talking about
that we have talked before about tendon muscle tend on injury, and it's
depending you know, how bad orhow extensive is that injury. There's grade
one, grade two, grade threeif it's a muscle injury, the same
thing grade one, grade two, grade three versus tend on injury. But

(55:57):
the tendo's take a little bit longer. Sounds like it's precautionary because he looks
like he's felt in his bullpen sessionbefore the appearance, but they didn't bother
him enough and he was able topatch through the game. So you know,
Kubila, when you have a calfinjury, you know you are able
to do things, but it's stillaggravated and that's probably what they call it
precautionary. Obviously they will get MRIto see the degree and the extension of

(56:22):
the injury, but that's what I'mlooking at interpretating for what they say,
do injuries like this, if they'reat their most severe ever require surgery?
Is that something we should even bethinking about long term. You know,
a complete tendom pair that is offthe bond, that will be a grade
three. Obviously that's something that youlook at it as a possibility. I

(56:45):
complete hamps intend on injury, buta lot of the time it is not
complete, and they are mostly gradeone grade two and they will reattached together
and they will heal together. Andyou know that's when you ask your question,
what can you do to try tomake this too quick to heal quicker?
So then you talk about you know, prp ingections and you know other

(57:06):
modalities to promote healing process into thearea. But everything is depending where the
injury. You know, me andmy friends with death when I have done
it for you know, for theteen years ago. You know, any
injury that is a great two oror even more, you know we require
that doesn't require surgery. We talkabout doing the you know those type of

(57:27):
ingestions to almentain the healing process andcut down around twenty five percent of the
of the length of the that wenormally look or we expect. So yeah,
there's there's surgery for some type ofinjury, depending if there's a real
retraction that means pulling off the bondcompletely, but a lot of the times
they're not. And that's why youdon't see too many people with a hands
fring injury to get surgery, orwith an eighty doctor or a doctor tendom

(57:52):
muscile injury to get surgery. Sowalk me through what the most likely course
of treatment is going to be forKnicks specifically, and and maybe when we
can expect to see him back onthe mound, well when he has.
You have somebody who has an injurylike this and it's a greade one strain
and there's no tearing right, justa pool or even if it's a muscle

(58:14):
grade one lider tear on it orgrade two lidder tear. You know,
you number one, you're gonna getthe inflammation down right, So you start
with you know, antiflammatory teroid pillsUH to try to get that inflammation down.
You start working with the modalities withthe physical therapist and the analytic trainers
you know at the ballpark, andI start working with exercises to start putting

(58:34):
a threating to attend on the muscleto make a heal appropriately and obviously working
in other muscle groups because other musclegroups will come and say and will need
to be strong for the for thestress of throwing. So sometimes Mike balance
of those muscles will put stress becausethere's fatigue. So I think right now

(58:54):
it's getting the inflammation down. Giventhe next week probably to see how he
recovered. Is the m R Isay that it's not a significant injury obviously,
and then from there get into astrengthening program. Remember it's the left
leg. It's the push legs, right, but it's the leg that you
actually stress. Is the inside ofthe left leg that you stress when you
are stressing toward the mound, soit's toward the home plate. So you

(59:17):
know, definitely is gonna put alot of stress, and we at the
beginning need to get the information down, get the strengthening. If it's a
low great train, you talk aboutyou know, fifteen, you know to
maybe twenty one day. If ifit's really light, he may be right
for it, you know, intwo weeks, or he may take a
little bit longer. If it's agreat two. You know, we always

(59:37):
talk about you know, six toten weeks if it's a greade too or
great tray grade three even more. But for me, when I look at
this diagnosis on the news, obviouslythere's other things that are happening. Right
you have the you know, notjust the tend on there, you have
you know, some arisa, youcan have somewhearnia, some somaro that you

(59:59):
can have some into the joint. You know. But when they do when
they say that it's growing strength,we're talking most of the time about that
eighty dollars ten on in the insideof the tide. Are there are there
things that could be done for anathlete or you know, even just someone
like myself to avoid having this sortof injury. Well, you always need

(01:00:21):
to, you know, to besure that his leg is strong, right,
are strong? So you're talking aboutwhen you're doing this exercise, especially
to the middle of the season. You know, there's a way to evaluate
how he's doing when he's getting fatigue, when he's getting tired, when his
arms lot change. You know, things that the pitching coast and the anthletic
training staff, you know, onthe physical therapists can look and see,

(01:00:45):
hey, hey, you look thatyou're not stretching too much. You know,
you look that you are you know, changing how you're throwing there's anything
anything going on, and you cando so much strengthening testing on both legs
to different Shay how was at thebeginning of the season, because they do
before spring training they evaluate the strengtheningand they monitor into the season. You

(01:01:06):
know, if there's a lot ofweakness there, they may have to start
doing more strengthening to compensate, youknow, getting a little bit of rest.
That's what we have the All Starbreak, right, so they can
get a little bit of break too. So there are things that can be
done to see if there's any inclinationof hey, we're inclined that he's getting
tired, let's give you a littlebit of break here on. There as

(01:01:27):
always outstanding insight. You always havethe answers to my questions. We'll do
it again soon. Doctor Rangel ofAlaska is from Wortho, Sinsey. I
appreciate it, man, Thank yougood perfect, Thank you man, Doctor
Angel of Alaskaz. Orthos. SinceI say this every week, I've said
it twice this week. The greatthing about the folks at Orthos since specialists
and locations all across the Try State. This includes walk in orthopedic urgent care

(01:01:49):
during the week from nine am tonine pm and on Saturday nine am to
one pm, and Edgewood and Anderson. It's easier and it's cheaper than going
to an er. Whenever you havean urgent orthopedic injury Athosinc dot com,
that's Ortho c I n CY dotcom. The Reds did not win yesterday,
but we're still gonna say something nice. Plus Brendanman and Jones on baseball

(01:02:10):
and why I love the Bengals schedulecoming up on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station No Idea ten away from fiveESPN fifteen thirty on Moeger we're giving away
more Hoody and the Blowfish tickets atfive thirty three. Will test your knowledge
of the shared history between the Redsand Dodgers. That coming up in uh

(01:02:32):
just about forty five minutes or so. Reds are in La tonight, first
to four against the Dodgers. NicolodoloIs is not gonna pitch. I think
the frustrating thing. The first ratingthing about yesterday would be Andrew Abbot pitched
very very well seven innings. We'vetalked a lot about length. Seven innings.
He was pitch of fishing ninety fivepitches and was good seven innings of

(01:02:54):
four run baseball. Andrew Abbott hashad one bad start, and even the
one bad start wasn't just an abjectdisaster. It was the game he pitched
against the Rangers, a good lineup. He gave up a couple of homers.
By and large, Andrew Rabbits erathis season is three point zero six.

(01:03:14):
Now you'd like to see a littlebit more in length. He's only
had three starts this year where hehas gotten through six innings, obviously including
yesterday, But one of the themesof the last couple of weeks that has
been kind of hidden amid all thelosing and all the offensive struggles, the
red starting pitching is better than itwas last year. Start with health,

(01:03:37):
and unfortunately Lodolo's injury cuts into thisa little bit. But we've seen some
really good things from Nicolodolo. Ilike how Nicolodolo pitched on Saturday. He
gives up the Grand Slam in thefirst inning and then nothing. Now,
okay, they lose. The GrandSlam loomed over the entire game, but
he didn't allow a terrible first inningto turn into the type of start that

(01:03:58):
he's done in the third bullpen's gotto come in eat a bunch of innings.
They have no chance of winning thegame. He kept him kind of
in it. This is if theReds had played five hundred ball over the
last couple of weeks. This iswhat we would be talking about. And
on a macro level, as wetalked about where this team is going,
they are, let's face it,right now, you'd be hard pressed to

(01:04:20):
convince anybody that they can make theplayoffs this year. Right It's just the
math is starting to really work againstthem. The state of the roster is
really starting to work against them. But as we talk about, like the
big picture stuff with this franchise, one of the things that had to happen
was the starting pitching had to startto show improvement. That is happening.

(01:04:41):
Hunter Green's a part of that conversation. I'd like to see better from Graham
Ashcraft. I'll be honest with you. Of all the guys, he's the
one that to me has been themost underwhelming. But we're seeing it with
Hunter Green, and we're seeing itwith Andrew Abbott, and now we'll hear
Brennaman and Jones on Baseball Cincinnati's ESPNfifteen thirty. Traffic from the UC Health

(01:05:04):

Bengals Like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati'ssports station. Hey, what's up,

(01:05:56):
Good afternoon, Mullagger, ESPN fifteenthirty, Thank you for for listening today.
We're giving away more Hoody in theBlowfish tickets. I'm gonna be honest
with you. Some weeks ZiT byand you get to Thursday afternoon and it's
like man, where did the weekgo? It feels like, and I
say this because of the Hoodi andthe Blowfish tickets. I love Hoody in

(01:06:18):
the Blowfish. I'm going to thatconcert. I may have an extra ticket
to that concert, so I'm excited. But it feels like we have been
giving away Hoody and the Blowfish ticketsevery day for a month. It's only
been this week, and we haveanother day this week in front of us.

(01:06:40):
So it some weeks just fly by. Some weeks not five o'clock Happy
Hour, though. It's a serviceof our buddies at michelob Ultra. This
time of year, nothing goes downsmoother than a cold, crisp michelob Ultra.
It's brude for active people. It'sperfect for watching a ball game,

(01:07:00):
you know what, like tonight tenten game, late late night ballgame.
Everybody else is gonna go to bed, sit there and have a mic Ultra
and maybe more than one if thingsgo as many expect with the game tonight.
Bigelow Ultra. We thank them forsponsoring the five o'clock Happy Hour here
on ESPN fifteen thirty. I havenot yet gotten to our poll question,
which we will anyway hooting in theblowfish tickets at five thirty three. Another

(01:07:26):
three points for FC Cincinnati last nightthat we'll spend some time on. If
you missed. Danny higg abought themon FC Cincinnati yesterday. He was terrific.
We'll have that on the We dohave that on the podcast page of
ESPN fifteen thirty dot com. We'regetting somebody else from Apple TV tomorrow.
I don't yet know who it is. I can't tell you. Sam Leckire
is going to be on the show. So we're looking forward to that.
Also really quick, and I seethe phones aligning up. You can call

(01:07:48):
now if you want to try towin Hooty in the blowfish tickets. We're
not giving them away until five thirtythree as a very quick programming though,
just a piece of housekeeping. Yesterdayon the show, we were playing the
weather report from Brandon Spinner of Channelnine. He's one of the meteorologists at

(01:08:10):
Channel nine. And I mentioned justsort of offhand that he has a YouTube
show where he reviews bourbon. He'sa bourbon connoisseur. Now I love bourbon.
I will admit that. Like ifwe're going to get into a conversation
about like the ins and outs ofeach particular bourbon and how was made in

(01:08:31):
the specific notes when you put yournose in it. I'm not that guy,
but Brandon is, and he's gota YouTube show and it's I love
bourbon. I love watching people whoknow a lot about bourbon talk about bourbon,
and Brandon does. So I justmentioned that he has a YouTube show
about bourbon, and I had seenfour or five episodes that showed up in
my feed. I'm like, it'sthe guy from Channel nine. I watched

(01:08:54):
it. He's talking about bourbon.I'm in And so today he sent me
a DM because you know I lovecommunicating via DM. He sent me a
DM and just said thanks for themention, and had I had said like,
we should have him come on ourshow and talk about bourbon. And
I think he's also a big baseballfan. I don't know him personally,

(01:09:15):
but I've watched him on Channel nineand he's slid into my DMS and was
like, dude, let's make ithappen. I love to come on.
We'll talk bourbon, we'll talk weather, like I have questions about weather,
and so I think we're gonna We'regonna try to make this happen it's it's
based on his schedule. We're gonnado like a Bourbon Hour next Friday.

(01:09:36):
It's it's gonna be okay if wedo that, right, Yes, like
next Friday, it's the Friday beforeMemorial Day. If you're okay with this,
Tarn, Yes, like we're we'renow. If there's like some big
sports story, I promise we'll talkabout it. But on a Friday in
May, can we just do thethe brand? Can we call him Brandon

(01:09:57):
Bourbon Brandon? Can we just weatherguy comes in studio and we talk about
bourbon for an hour? Arran, you're good with this? I am down
with it all right? I threwout last Friday. He said he has
to check his schedule. He's typicallynot on TV on Thursday and Friday.
So but it's going to happen. It's just a matter of when. But

(01:10:18):
yeah, go check it out hishis bourbon show. It's weather Whiskey because
he's the weather guy. There yougo, Terry, should we take phone
calls we talk to people? Sure? Should I just keep babbling break it
down? Schedule even more. I'lljust say this about the schedule. We

(01:10:40):
had a great time last night atthe schedule of these show was a lot
of fun. The NFL schedule isalways fun to talk about in relation to
other sports because there's oddities, andthere's different maybe competitive advantages that one team
might have during a certain stretch,or some competitive disadvantages that one team might
be at during a certain stretch, and so I love sifting through all that.

(01:11:01):
Everybody loves to complain about how theleague screwed him. I think the
league did the Bengals an enormous favor. Man. This franchise has had the
hardest time the last couple of yearscharging out of the gate. Joe Burrow
not being one hundred percent is theprimary reason why the NFL has given the
Bengals a three and one start, and if they can go to Kansas City

(01:11:25):
and win in Week two, whichis certainly not beyond the realm of possibility,
they have given the Bengals a fourto oh start. I'll be very
very upfront about this. There isno excuse for the Bengals to not be
at least three and one when theBaltimore Ravens come to town week five.
I know things happen. Right now, Cincinnati is an eight and a half
point favored against the Patriots. That'sa real line. Eight and a half

(01:11:46):
points. Grod Mayo's first game, perhaps Drake May's first game. Jacoby Burssett's
the other option. Now they're underdog'sWeek two against Cam's a City. By
the way, they're projected to bedogs in just three games, and the
Baltimore game here is a pick themthat according to the Action Network. Now
that'll change, I'm sure is theseason unfolds. But still Week two,

(01:12:12):
Kansas City four point dog, that'sthe projection. That's going to be tough.
Week three, they come back andplay the Washington Commanders. Now the
Washington Commanders have hit the reset buttonand I think they've had a good offseason.
Now us have a rookie quarterback, not a first time head coach,
but they have a new head coach. You get him in your building in
prime time. Then you go toCarolina and play the Panthers rookie head coach.
They were two and fifteen last year. The NFL is solving one of

(01:12:38):
the Bengals' biggest issues, which isthey have to constantly play catchup because they
dig themselves a whole early this pastyear. It was one and three.
Two years ago was zero to two. It's also and two last year.
If this team is anything but threeand one, something will have gone terribly
wrong. Now the rest of theway, the schedule is obviously pretty damn
tough, and there's some weirdness toit because they play three games in a

(01:13:01):
tight amount of time, and thenthey have one game in twenty three days,
and then they have four games andnineteen days whatever. This team should
be three to one. This teamhas a very good chance to play from
ahead. And so that's what Ilike about the schedule. I'm always more
concerned with how does the schedule begin, What do the first few weeks look
like? Than I am what's itlike in December? Who knows? As

(01:13:26):
a Bengals fan, I think youshould be thrilled with this. This team
stinks out of the gate. Soall right, fine, you're gonna treat
training camp like it's a vacation. You got a quarterback that can never go
through a normal offseasons, last trainingcamps, last preseason. Don't want to
play your main guys during the preseason. We're gonna give you three cupcakes in
the first four weeks. Oh andby the way, the tough game you

(01:13:48):
have during that stretch is an opponentyou always play good games against. I
am elated with this, elated withthis. What I didn't want were a
bunch of hard teams to start theseason. I didn't want Baltimore, Pittsburgh,
Cleveland. I kind of wanted theChargers because I feel like it's gonna

(01:14:08):
be at least a little while beforeHardball gets his program going. I didn't
want to go to Dallas. Ididn't want the Tennessee game. I wanted
the Cupcakes. Give me the newhead coaches, give me the rookie,
inexperienced or bad quarterbacks. Give methe bad teams early. I get three
of them in the first month. If you're a Bengals fan, this is
pretty much best case scenario. Ilove this schedule. Please make sure this

(01:14:32):
clip goes viral for the people whoare accusing me of complaining about the schedule
on social media this morning. Thankyou. All Right, now we're going
to talk to other people, someof whom have been waiting very patiently.
Five point three seven four nine, fifteen thirty is our phone number. Nick,
Go ahead, you're on ESPN fifteenthirty. Hows it going? Hey?

(01:14:54):
Mo Hey. First of all,I am a very much a fan
of Guests the Foot. You are. I love Guess the Foot? Oh
yeah, all right, I Ithink can we can we bring that back?
Please? I think there's a verygood chance the tomorrow show will include
a game of Guess the Foot.I love Guests the Foot. I don't
know why people hate on it.I'm like, yes, come on,

(01:15:15):
bring let's well, let's polarizing,you know, it's it's nobody has like
a lukewarm feeling about Guess the Foot. There are people who hate it or
love it, which is good. It's you want to elicit a strong reaction.
Tomorrow, Nick, I really likeyour chances of of hearing a game
and maybe even playing a game ofGuess the Foot. That's oh awesome.

(01:15:35):
Good I'll call tomorrow too then.Yeah. Also, one on one other
quick thing, I I signed upfor mow your lawn the other day.
Yeah, and uh, what youknow, if if I win, I
won't make you cut my cut mylawn. But what what beverage would you
like? I've got I got beer, I got bourbon, I got I

(01:15:58):
got nick Ultra. I don't haveneutral. That's fine. You you had
me at beer and bourbon? Yes, okay, all right, done,
all right, cool? Hey,two questions for you. First of all,
not to be Debbie Downer, buthow long before we start talking players
the redskin trade? And what arethe odds? What are the odds that

(01:16:20):
the Bengals can go five and nonot not, you know, three and
one or three and two in thosefirst five games? Well, I mean,
mathematically, let's be honest, notgreat, but sure, I mean
you, the Kansas City game isnot going to be a blowout, and
so I'll take my chances with ahealthy Joe Burrow against the Kansas City Chiefs.

(01:16:40):
I'll take my hands my chances witha healthy Joe Burrow against the Baltimore
Ravens. He did not play ineither of those two games. Healthy.
I guess you could say he startedthe Baltimore game healthy. He was not
himself in the first game that washere. That game right now is projected
to be a pick them. Butlet's say they do that, then they
go to the Giants, then theygo to Cleveland. They never beat the

(01:17:00):
Browns up there, But why not? Like, why why can't this team
start five to zero? White? Why should I? Why should I dismiss
the possibility of them beating the Ravensand the Chiefs early, along with the
three Pats as they play in thefirst month. Yeah, I'm with you.
I love the what the NFL hasdone with these these early games,

(01:17:23):
like let's go. Yeah, Yeah, here's a team that has had a
hard time getting out of the gate. Cool, we'll give you easier opponents.
Last year, that wasn't the case, right, they had a good
to Cleveland. Baltimore came here. You could say two years ago, it
wasn't the case. They had Pittsburghcome here and they were all fired up
for Game one, and then theyhad a good to Dallas. All right,
fine, so we'll make it easy. We'll give you the Panthers,

(01:17:44):
Commanders, and and Patriots in thefirst month. Yeah, as far as
I'm concerned, we got to guess. I'm unlike you. I would have
rather I would like to see Tennesseeearly on, because I'm not sold on
Tennessee yet with all their new pieces. But and I would have liked the
Chargers early on too. But yeah, I like this, I like this

(01:18:04):
schedule. Let's go, let's doit. Nick, thank you. I
think the other part of the questionthere he asked about, like when do
we start about talking about trading players, who could they trade that would get
anything back? Right, Like, typically if teams are in cell mode,
it's well, we're trading away veterans. Well, the Reds don't really have
any veterans. Nobody wants jam OrCandelario's contract. I can't imagine teams are

(01:18:26):
going to be beating down the doorto take Jonathan Indy off their hands.
I don't really see a reason tomove on from Tyler Stevenson, like maybe
Frankie Montas because he's, you know, only on a one year contract and
maybe if he's healthy and performing well, somebody would give you something for him.
I think we dramatically overstate what teamscan get at the deadline when they

(01:18:48):
go into cell mode. But unfortunately, the way things are trending, having
those conversations feel almost inevitable. Imean, I'm really hoping that this isn't
you know that we're not having thisconversation come late June early July. But
like you said, yeah, we'rekind of trending in that way. But

(01:19:09):
I will definitely be calling tomorrow forguests to foot because let's let's let's bring
it back. Man. Is thata dog or a human in the car
with you. It's a human.I've got a one year old in the
back seat. So I used toplay that game when I had a one
year old? Is this a dogor a human in the back And oh
yeah, I think you have toget off the phone now, Nick,

(01:19:29):
thank you. Yeah, time togo. I've been there, many,
many, many many times. TarnBy request. We're playing guest the Foot
tomorrow. I have no problem withthat. You're okay with that? So
tomorrow guess the foot and uh,next Friday, our guys checking a schedule
Bourbon Brandon Spinner. Do you thinkhe'll bring like Jennifer ketchmark with him if

(01:19:54):
he doesn't have to work? Well, she does the mornings and he says
he's off on Fridays. Now Ifollowed Jennifer Ketch more work on Instagram.
She likes bourbon. She also playshockey, She's sews stuff, she rides
dirt bikes, she has two kids. I don't know when she has time
to do all these things, butI've seen her drink bourbon. You have
our own happy hour up here?We could we can have our own Channel

(01:20:15):
nine Happy hour. Brandon's gonna getback to me, and we're gonna do
the Brandon Spinner Bourbon Show here nextnext Friday. All right, we're late
twenty minutes after a five o'clock theHooty and the Blowfish tickets. We're we're
not gonna play. We're gonna playstupid trivia coming up. Do you think
Nick likes Guess the foot or doyou think he just hates our dumb trivia
games. I really think he likesto guess the foot. Yeah, me

(01:20:38):
too. I love Guess the foot. So tomorrow's more people a chance to
win. It does it's a littlebit more inclusive. It's a it's a
little bit more you know. Now, it's just like luck of the draw.
You get in. We ask youquestions, hopefully you get them right
right. U five point three sevenfour nine fifteen thirty's our phone number.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty, CincinnatiSports Station. Paul question on X,

(01:21:00):
a service of United Heartland Insurance.Want to save mo money? Well,
whether it's your personal insurance, businessinsurance, auto insurance, homeowner's insurance,
you name it. My friends atUnited Heartland Insurance can help. Go to
uhis dot com. Tell them, tell them you want to save MO money
and when they go MO money,Yeah, you be heard it on this

(01:21:24):
show hosted by a guy named Mo. The pole questions are very simple.
What is the Bengals record going tobe after four games? Vote now at
Mo Eggar again thanks to United Heartlandin Insurance quickly, thank you for hanging
on as always, Jeff, what'sup? Oh how Mo? Is a
Indian Hill exempt from your long cuttingthing? Those are big, big yards,

(01:21:47):
and those are also people who hirefolks to cut grass for them.
I could have a couple of mybuddies thro the hat during a few LEAs
do it? Yes, you know, I like because we deliver the lawnmower
after I get off the air oneafternoon, right, and Indian Hill and
Kenwood are pretty close. So anythingthat's more convenient for me, I'm a
favor of. Oh that's good. That's good man. That was some of

(01:22:09):
the best free entertainment last night I'veheard in a long time. You guys
were just and you walked out withthe bottle of bourbon. Right, I
walked out with the bottle of badTom Smith bourbon. That was That show
was a lot of fun. Wewe don't we don't get to do enough
shows with each other, full shows, Lance, Tony Austin and myself,
and so when we get to therare chance to do it, it's it's
always a blast. That was alot of fun last and I thank you

(01:22:30):
for listening and for the kind words. Yeah, how does schedule work out
with your UC obligations? Anything matchup? Really? For Homer Road games,
that's fall into place. No,But as Paul Daanner pointed out on
his podcast today with Mark Shaalafu,if you are a really really optimistic UC
fan, I mean really optimistic UCfan, the Big twelve Championship game is

(01:22:59):
on December seventh, and it's Iguess it's at Jerry World. The Bengals
play there on Monday Night Football twonights later. And that's about it,
right, Unfortunately, Yes, thatis that is That is about That explains
why there's no hotel rooms available thatweekend. I poked around multiple websites last

(01:23:24):
night. Hotels there are tight forthat weekend. That makes a lot of
sense. Yeah, So the BigBig twelve Championship games at Jerry World on
the seventh, and the Bengals playthe Cowboys there on the ninth. So
if you are if you are areally optimistic UC fan, really optimistic,
maybe the most optimistic UC fan onthe planet, you could you can make
a go of it. See theBearcats play in the National in the Big

(01:23:45):
twelve Championship game, and then stickaround and see the Bengals play the Cowboys.
There you go. I'm with you. I like the schedule. I'll
bet if you took a survey inthe locker room, everybody would be more
than happy with it, particularly likeWeek twelve being the bye so we can
keep our TVs off during Hardball versusyou know, you know what that week

(01:24:06):
is going to be like it is, and and I'm bummed at the Baltimore
game is at night, but Imight figure out a way to try to
get up and out of there andstay alive. Well, you just have
to wait. That's the one that'sthat's the one that I think I'm gonna
go to. That's the one thatmy schedule I think is going to allow
me to go to. What I'mtrying to figure out is can I broadcast

(01:24:27):
because it's a Thursday? Can Ido this show on a Thursday afternoon from
somewhere in Baltimore. Oh, I'llbe there next Friday night for the baseball
game, pull me aside and let'stalk about Baltimore. Definitely, I'll give
you ideas on where to go.So but no, I think it's gonna
work out. You know that thetravel stuff should be pretty good and let's

(01:24:48):
just hope everybody stays healthy. Andman, I'm trying hard to think about
watching the Reds games, but I'mman, if they just go one and
three this week and I think they'redone, Yeah, it feels that way,
unfortunately, Jeff, I appreciate itas always, Thank you. I
you know, the schedule from arest perspective, a lot of folks are

(01:25:08):
going to kind of focus on thetightly cloistered chunks of time where they play.
You know, again, they fromOctober twenty seventh to November seventh.
That's three games in eleven days, not easy, and then December ninth through
the nineteenth three games, but youalso get one game in twenty three days

(01:25:34):
between their Thursday night game against Baltimoreand their Pittsburgh game here on the first.
Like, if I'm a player, like I asked Archer Hall Hawkins this
once and he was like, dude, players love Thursday eye football. You
get the mini bye, like they'llcomplain about it, but get the mini
bye. They're gonna get two Thursdayeight football mini byes, and then in

(01:25:58):
the middle of the season because ofthe week twelve by which is later than
it's been in quite a while, three weeks more than three weeks where they
played one game. I don't know. I think that's pretty good. I
think it's a pretty good trade off. And like for me, like December
December, if the Bengals are playingmeaningful football in December, which we all

(01:26:19):
expect them to four games in nineteendays sandwiched with the Crosstown shootout sandwiched in
the middle, are you kidding me? I'll be honest with you. I
usually try to take some time offin December. That ain't gonna happen.

(01:26:40):
Like there's a lot there. Signme up twenty seven away from six.
All right, Hoody and the Blowfishtickets. We're not playing guess the foot.
We have a Reds lineup? Allright, We'll give you the Reds
lineup and we'll take two contestants togo see Hoody and the Blowfish On June
seventh at Riverbend. We're going todo a dumb trivia game. We're going

(01:27:01):
to test your knowledge of the sharedhistory of the Reds and Dodgers. Their
shared history is insane five three fifteenthirty eight sixty six seven oh two three
seven seven six. If you wantto go see Hooty and the Blowfish call.
If you don't want to go seeHooty in the Blowfish, then don't.
Twenty seven from six. This isESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinna Sports Station.

(01:27:23):
Oh No. One covers the Bengalslike ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports
station. We have a very shortamount of time to do a lot of
stuff. Let's take a look attonight's red starting lineup. Hopefully it's made

Corey, We're gonna ask you fivequestions related to the shared history of the
Reds and Dodgers. If you getthree, you're gonna go see Hooty and
the Blowfish. If you don't,Mike's gonna go see Hooty and the Blowfish.
And uh and and this is prettypretty basic stuff, yet I find
myself going overboard and explaining it everyday. Are you ready? Yes,
sir Tarity, you have your gameshow music. Corey. The Reds and

(01:31:27):
Dodgers have met in the postseason once. It was actually the last time the
Reds advanced in the postseason, nineteenninety five, Cincinnati swept LA in the
National League Division Series Free Zip.Cincinnati won the first two games in Los
Angeles. They came back home inwon Game three to sweep the series at
Riverfront Stadium. Who for the Redsrecorded the last out? Who recorded the

(01:31:50):
last out on the mound of thatseries for the Reds? Was it a
Jeff Shaw b Dave Berba or seethe Cowboy? Jeff Brantley. I'm gonna
go to the Cowboy? Can Iget the Cowboy? Jeff Brandley? Yes,
Jeff Branley got the last out. They won that game eleven to one.
Mark Lewis had a Grand Slam.Hamilton's Mark Lewis. All right,
very good? Uh. The nineteeneighty one Dodgers, as you know,

(01:32:12):
Corey won the World Series. Itwas a weird year. They had a
strike, they played the Yankees, came back from down two to oh to
win the nineteen eighty one World Series. On that pitching staff the Dodgers had
that year were two pitchers who wouldeventually pitch for the Reds. One was
Jerry Royce. Who was the other? Was it a John Franco b.

(01:32:34):
Rob Murphy or C Ted Power? Not one power? Can I get Ted
Power? Yes? Ted Power?Who would go on to pitch for the
Reds the very following year was withthe nineteen eighty one world champion LA Dodgers.
Very good. Now you gotta getone more. You get three chances

(01:32:56):
to get one more. Here wego. As you know, Corey.
Tom Browning pitched a perfect game forthe Reds in nineteen eighty eight against the
Dodgers. Approximately seven hundred and tenthousand people were there. Tom Browning,
Reds won that game, won nothing. Who started and pitched eight innings of
one run baseball for the other team? The hint is he would eventually pitch

(01:33:19):
for the Reds. Was it aTim Leary b? John Smiley? Or
see Tim Belcher? I'm gonna gosee one more time? Can I go
see Tim Belcher? What common game? Every answer was see this go around?
Unbelievable. Tim Belcher pitched great thatnight, eight innings, gave up
a run and unearned run. Redswon the game, won nothing. Tom

(01:33:40):
Browning was better that night. Hethrew a perfect game. Congratulations Corey,
You're gonna go see Hooty and theBlowfish. Do you turn forty before June
seventh? No? Okay, Igot one year. All right, you're
gonna have to bring a fake IDbecause I think you have to be in
your forties to attend that show. But maybe just talk your way in.
We'll see you there. Okay,I got the looks very good. All

(01:34:02):
right, Corey, thank you verymuch. Go ahead, Terry and get
Corey's information. We appreciate Mike forhis participation. We don't have consolation prizes.
Do we guess the foot? That'sright, guess the foot is tomorrow.
Everybody's eligible except for the poor people, the four people who won this
week. Tarren, do you wantto want me to ask you the other
questions? You know what? Youneed to let our guy Michael Medley answer?

(01:34:27):
Okay, yeah, you know what. He's a Dodgers expert. Mike.
You want to answer some Reds Dodgerstrivia questions for absolutely nothing? Sure?
Okay? Uh. In nineteen ninetyeight, the Reds at the All
Star Break traded their lone All Star, Jeff Shaw, to the Dodgers.
His first game as a Dodger uniformwas in the All Star Game. I

(01:34:47):
screwed up this question. Never mind, I'll just I'll skip. Do you
know what? Do you well? They traded Jeff Shaw? Do you know
who they got? I don't know. Paul Canerko and Dennis Rays. I
was supposed to ask the Paul KonerkoDennis Rays part first. Okay, all

(01:35:09):
right, so Mike, here's whatyou should know this one. Okay,
So as you know, Mike,in the nineteen seventies, the Reds were
in the National League West. TheReds and Dodgers dominated the National League West
in every decade. In every yearof the seventies, the Reds or Dodgers
won the division, with the exceptionof one year, nineteen seventy one.

(01:35:30):
Every other year in the seventies, either the Reds or Dodgers won the division.
In seventy one, though there wasan exception. Who won the NL
West? Was it a the Braves, B the Cardinals, or c the
Giants? As that was the Giants. I would have bet my pot on

(01:35:51):
that one too. You didn't winanything. I didn't want anything. Hey,
can I can? I You're afremist on how to evaluate the schedule
is the only way to go,because, like you said, after the
first four games, you don't knowwhat this season will unfold, and I
totally agree with that. That's mylast night when I heard Riddick, Willis

(01:36:14):
Riddick said ten and seven, buthe based it on the defense questionable in
the running back situation. Greg Bassellsaid eleven and six, but again same
premise defense running back. And TroyAikman was on this show and he went
ten and seven too, but theyall brought they were different shows, but

(01:36:35):
they all brought up the same twoquestion marks. What do you think mainly
the defense? Yes, I thinkthe running back question is interesting because,
look, the reality is the Bengalsdon't want to run the football, so
when they run it, they're doingwhat the other team's defensive coordinator wants them
to do. Do I think withinthose parameters where they want to be a

(01:36:59):
pass first team, they could bemore explosive. Absolutely, absolutely, because
Joe Mixon, for all of hisqualities, just wasn't very explosive in recent
years. Now, if they haveto lean on the running game more,
first of all, something will havegone wrong if they have to lean on
it. I think that's going tobe a problem if they use it as
a compliment to what they want todo throwing the football. I think it

(01:37:21):
could be fine. I think itis completely reasonable to wonder what the defense
is going to be, because youcan convince me not going to be very
good at all. You can convinceme actually it has a chance to be
pretty decent. I think the coolthing though, is if it's basically league
average across the board, they're probablya team that wins ten games or more.

(01:37:44):
Okay, So that sounds reasonable,And that's basically what great Cross co
Sale said. He said, yougot to go something to play action with.
You can't the shotgun all the timewhere he's going to get killed,
And that's basically what you're saying.Hey, I'm I'm almost home now and
I get to see Big Tyler tonight. That is a monster dude. He's

(01:38:06):
about six foot eight. I didn'tknow he was that big. And tomorrow
night we got the Big Maple going. And you know who the Big Maples,
right, his nickname is the BigMaple. Yeah, it's the weft
handed tax. It's uh it's JamesJackson. Correct. Yeah, sure he's

(01:38:28):
gotta So you're looking at this glassnow, two point five Big Maple.
Well, you're depressing me. You'redepressing me, Mike. I'm trying to
trying to be optimistic about this series. You're depressing me, well, yours
trying to. He's just coming back. So he's six point five now.
He had a little rough time theother night and then he either got Gavin
Stone or Yamamoto. Three point twoto three point two. Yeah, thanks

(01:38:50):
Mike. We have to go.The show's over. We have to go.
But if they can't get on base, they can't steal. That's their
only hope. Thanks all right. Thanks, By the way, I gotta
do this as well. I didn'twant to squeeze this out. Your performer
