(00:00):
Oh, No. One covers theBengals like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports
station. The Cincinnati Reds have lostten of their last fifteen games. They
are six games under five hundred. They have lost what is it, four

(00:21):
consecutive series. They just had atwo to four home stand. There ten
and a half games out of firstplace. The quote from Tyler Stevenson,
and this was in response to,I guess something that Graham Ashcraft said.
I like Tyler Stevenson. The TylerStevenson quote here quote I feel like we're

(00:42):
all kind of like coming together. This is because Graham Ashcraft. Graham Ashcraft,
who pitched yesterday and gave up twohomers and had a start that looked
like all of his starts before hegot sent to Louisville. After the game,
he says, quote, I feellike I'm about to kick that door
down and take it over, okay. Tyler Stevenson in response as quote,

(01:07):
Yeah, I love that. Imean, we've had plenty of conversations,
and I think that's something we reallydon't do. I feel like we've had
highs and lows, and I feellike we're all kind of like coming together.
Can you imagine what it would looklike if they weren't coming together.
Hi, my name's Mullegar. Thisis ESPN fifteen thirty. I hope your

(01:29):
Thursday is unbelievable. Thank you toChad Brendle for filling in on this show
yesterday. I was in for Lance. I'm also in for Lance tonight.
Thanks in advance to Chad for doingthis show tomorrow. I ain't going to
be anywhere close to Cincinnati. It'sgoing to be load management Friday for me.
Ah Reds are in Saint Louis Tonight. Noelve Marte is set to come
back. The eyes of the entirecountry are not only on Noelve Martes's return,

(01:53):
but now the fourth game where DavidBell has a chance to establish a
new franchise record for managerial ejections. We'll spend some time on that here in
a bit. Plus, what isthe Bengals' biggest weakness as training camp approaches.
If it's what ESPN says it is, this team's about to be really,
really, really good. We've obviouslyhad a lot of injuries to discuss,

(02:17):
both with the Reds and with FCCincinnati. We have Nick Haglin,
Matt Miosga, TJ. Friedel andthe Christian Incarnacion Strands saga, Doctor Jonathan
Slaughter from Orthos, since you willhelp us make sense of these injuries and
figure out when these guys can comeback, coming up at four thirty three,
and Mark Followill from a MLS seasonpass on Apple TV, It's gonna

(02:40):
talk FC Cincinnati with us coming upat five twenty. I like Tyler Stevenson
a lot. I think he's agood catcher. I think on a good
team, on a good team, well constructed team, nobody would have any
issue with what Tyler Stevenson does offensiveor defensively. And unfortunately for him,

(03:02):
maybe he hasn't quite realized the potentialthat a lot of us thought he had
or may still think he has.But I like Tyler Stevenson. He's always
come off as a thoughtful guy,a smart guy, a good guy,
a good teammate, a guy whocares. We've been lucky enough to have
Tyler in studio with us and hewas terrific. And I get it.

(03:23):
There are only really so many thingsplayers could say when they're on a team
that is thirty seven and forty three. I appreciate optimism, but boy,
it feels like, and you couldyou could tell me your thoughts at five
point three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. It feels like
being a Reds fan constantly involves oneof two things, sometimes both at the

(03:46):
same time. Either being told, hey, here's what's coming up next,
and that's when they're gonna turn itaround, right, Hey, just wait
till these guys come back, orand I'm I'm already saying it, Hey,
look after this road trip, man, the schedule gets easy. Like
being a Reds fan, it feelslike we're constantly being told, hey,
don't worry, here's what's coming upnext, or we're being told, hey,

(04:13):
we're about to turn it on,we're about to take off, We're
about to be Okay, Tyler's doingthat again. Here, here's my question
for you this afternoon. So thisteam is at the midway point. Tonight
they play game number eighty one, first of four in Saint Louis. Right,
it's been a rough first half ofthe season. There have been some

(04:33):
highs. They had that seven gamewinning streak, remember that again. They
have since lost ten out of fifteengames. Ellie Dela Cruz has had some
cool moments. Hunter Green has hadsome cool moments. Nico Lodolo has had
some cool moments. There's been abunch of relievers who have had some cool
moments. But the team's record isthirty seven and forty three relative to what

(04:55):
a lot of us hoped and relativeto what many expected. Where they are
right now is a disappointment. Andthe disappointing thing for me isn't as much
the record as it is recently,at least how they've played, the sloppiness,
the mistakes, stuff that I've harpedon now for a couple of weeks.
So here's what I want to know. When are we supposed to expect

(05:21):
the Reds to win? You know, last year it was, well,
you know, they were ahead ofschedule. I mean, no expectations,
right, they're ahead of schedule,so hey, you know, I mean,
anything's gravy. And they win eightytwo games and it was a good
year, but and a fulfilling yearin some respects and an unfulfilling year in

(05:42):
others. Now, this year, this year, it feels like they've they've
kind of gone in reverse a littlebit, right like it does. It
feels like, at least to thispoint of the season, like they've taken
a step backwards, and injuries area factor. They are, in my
opinion, at least not the factor, but they are a factor, and
so maybe the excuse is going tobe, well, look, they were

(06:04):
ahead of schedule last year and theschedule caught up to them, and you
know, gee whiz, I mean, they probably Let's be honest, really
you shouldn't have expected them to winin twenty twenty four. So fine,
when when is it fair? Whenwill it be reasonable to say, you
know what, the Reds should beexpected to win this season. I'm the

(06:24):
first to admit I didn't expect theReds to be really good this year.
I there were too many young guys, right, There's too many variables that
you can't really wrap your brain around, too many things that you can't count
on. I remember back in Februarywhen people were getting mad that Baseball Perspectus
projected the Reds to win seventy ninegames, and a lot of people were

(06:45):
getting mad at that, and Isaid, disregard it. Disregard any projection.
If they said the Reds were gonnawin ninety four games, disregard it,
because projections are based on track record. This team's too young, have
too many guys who don't have atrack record. My guess was yes,
and maybe I'll end up being right. Maybe not. My guess was they'll
finish between seventy nine and eighty threewins, which is probably not going to

(07:08):
be good enough to get them tothe postseason. Right now, seventy nine
might seem ambitious, so you know, but now things have kind of gone
sideways, So hey, little bitmuch to expect them to win this year?
Does what has happened this season changeour expectations for twenty twenty five?
By the way, if the startingpitching on this year's team continues to be

(07:30):
as as decent as it has beenfor most of the season, they'll go
in the next season with a prettywell established starting rotation and a bunch of
pitchers that make up a bona fidestrength of the team. But because we're
constantly told, hey, stuff likethey're ahead of schedule, and well they're
not quite there, and they're hey, they're really young. Legitimately, when

(07:54):
is the next time we can gointo a season harboring bonafide high end expectations
bonafide high end expectations. Not,well, maybe they can sneak in and
get in his last wildcard. Notwell, you know, golly gee,
maybe they can finish lightly above fivehundred, like legitimate bonafide expectations. I

(08:18):
think that's been a problem now withthis franchise for a while, where we've
been in this almost endless cycle ofrebuilds and repositioning and recalibrating the plan,
which to the Reds credit, theyhaven't done here in a while, And
oftentimes what they're doing is spoken aboutin vague terms generalities the future. Well,

(08:43):
they're really well positioned for the future. Are they going to be really
well positioned for twenty twenty five?Do we have to wait for them to
be really well positioned until twenty twentysix? Is twenty twenty seven the target?

(09:05):
Like, that's the thing about waitingrights, That's the thing in the
day and age of GPS. Myfamily we're about to take a long car
ride, long car trip in aboutthree weeks. And when I was a
kid, we didn't have GPS's andso we'dn't get in the car and it
was like, when are we goingto get there? I don't know?

(09:26):
Late, well, what are wegoing to get there? I don't know.
It depends on traffic. Well, what are we going to get there?
I don't know. It depends onhow many stops. Well, what
are we going to get there?I don't know. Eight hours, ten
hours. Now with a GPS,it's a lot easier. Hey, we're
gonna get there at eight forty seven. Our ETA is eleven o three.

(09:46):
It's a lot easier. We're stilllike me in the back of my dad's
Monte Carlo when I was a kidin nineteen eighty four. With this club,
What are we going to get there? I don't know. We're gonna
get the hard to say don't know. What would be nice would be to
say, here's here's when they willhave arrived. Here's when we can actually

(10:13):
talk about them and in real championshipcontention terms. Are are we doing that
now? It feels like to meat the beginning of the season the answer
was no for a lot of folks, and that was reasonable. But I
also wonder if the issues that havepopped up this year mean that we can't

(10:35):
talk about next year in those terms. Right, are we going to talk
about twenty twenty five being the yearwhere we can finally expect them to do
more than just hover around five hundred. When do you expect this team to
win? When is it fair? When is it reasonable to expect the Reds

(10:58):
to legitimately win? And when Isay legitimately win, I mean like have
bona fide World Series hopes actually betalked about in the conversation of the teams
that have a chance to hoist atrophy at the end of the year,
because as much as things have changedand changed so much for the better with

(11:20):
this team, so many good youngplayers promising starting pitching, a better farm
system, although there does seem tobe a little bit of a gap between
the guys who got caught up lastyear and the next wave of dudes,
the sticking to the plan, whichis something they used to not do.
For all that's changed and for allthat has gotten better, it feels to

(11:45):
me, and you can tell meif I'm wrong, it feels like we're
still talking about the future and verysort of abstract, vague, open ended
terms. To me, at leastthings will have changed when you could say
this year or definitively next year, that's when you can realistically expect them to

(12:09):
win, not hope, remember, hope and expect or different words The reads
hope that Matt McClain can play baseballthis year. I don't think they expect
him to. There's a lot ofthings in life I hope for. There's
only a handful of things in lifeI expect. If I could get some
of the stuff that I'd hoped for, that'd be cool. That's not how

(12:31):
it works. So why my linesare open? Five point three seven four
nine, fifteen thirty. When canwe expect them to win? Because I
think a lot of us are goingto be patted on the head if you
express any disappointment, any frustration, any anger, any exasperation, any impatience.
Okay, fine, some seasons justnever really get going. This has

(12:54):
gone awry from the get go.It's been a little bit too old to
expect them to win this season.Okay, is it next year? When
is it? Five one three sevenfour nine, fifteen thirty is our phone
number? We were guest free forthe next hour and fifteen minutes at moegar
on Twitter slash x, where youcan find our show preview video. Go

(13:16):
watch it now. It's thanks toour friends at Emory Federal Credit Union,
which is your credit union with heartsince nineteen thirty nine. Go to EMORYFCU
dot org. It's eighteen after threeo'clock. My name is Mouegar. I
think there are I think there areshort term expectations and long term expectations.

(13:39):
Let's different differentiate between the two.And I got a question about the Bengals
coming up at about fifteen minutes onESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station,
Cincinnati six twenty three after three. This is ESPN fifteen thirty. You can
send a tweet during the show atMoegar or an X thanks to Delta Dental,

(14:00):
which is building healthy, smart, vibrant, vibrant, I said,
communities for all gonna Delta Dental.Oh dot com five one, three,
seven, four nine, fifteen thirtyis our phone number. Bob, You're
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Hi,Bob, Oh, what's going on?
I'm sitting here doing a talk show. How about yourself? I'm sitting down

(14:20):
in the sun in Bowling Green,Kentucky. Oh boy, how is it
in Bowling Green? Hot? Howis it in Cincinnati? It? Uh
warm? I haven't been outside inhours, unfortunately, but it's not as
scorching hot as it was maybe aweek ago. Wells anywhere else is hot?

(14:41):
It's hot in Saint Louis, Missouri, because we've got the hottest team
in the National League. And whenI say that, I say that without
the services of Tommy Edmund for oneat that this year, and for Lars
Nukebar since that terrible lat injury hesaid he suffered in Cincinnati, and somehow

(15:09):
without Jordan Walker, we are stillplaying the best baseball for anybody in the
National League right now. Uh yeah, I mean, the Brewers are playing
well, the Dodgers are playing well, the Mets are playing well. But
the Cardinals, the Cardinals have separatedthemselves a little bit from the rest of
the pack in the n L CentralAnd you know what you were talking earlier

(15:35):
about the the youth and things. And here's the great part about what we're
doing right now. They're doing allof that without any real contributions from Paul
Goldsmith or Nolano Aeronato. Yeah.I mean, but both guys, both

(15:58):
guys, by by their standards, have been severe disappointments. So when those
guys start doing what they're going todo based on the back of the baseball
card I think this is going tobe one of the better teams they've had
in a while. Uh yeah,I mean, look, the pitching staff

(16:22):
all season long has has kind ofoverachieved. If you look at the last
month, their fourth and all ofbaseball and era, Kyle Gibson is pitching
like a man eight years younger.Miles Michaelis has thrown well. Ryan Fernandez
has been pretty good. They've beenawesome at the back end of that bullpen.
What I think is interesting about theentire division. And I tried a

(16:45):
month ago to make the case forthe Reds, and now I sound pretty
stupid because it's sort of hard tomake a case for the Reds the Milwaukee
Brewers, and to their credit, they have proven me wrong so far.
But they've used a billion starting pitchersthis year. They've used a billion relief
pitchers this season. All year long, their pitching has felt like a house

(17:06):
of cards, no pun intended,I guess, and I keep waiting for
that to catch up to them, and it hasn't happened yet. It does
feel like if it does happen becauseof their starting pitching, the team that
is most likely to take advantage isSaint Louis Hey Mo. The two guys
who didn't mentioned are probably the twoguys playing better right now than anybody.

(17:30):
And one is Sonny Gray, whohas just been incredible. Yeah, Sonny
Gray is just I mean the guy. And you know what, two years
ago, mo I Wass had theadvantage of sitting right behind the Reds dugout
for a game. And I saytwo years ago, it was more like
three or four years ago. AndI never saw a guy so into a

(17:55):
baseball game that he had basically nothingto do with that day. And they
have a guy named Alec Burlison whois just absolutely crushing the ball. And
they have a guy named Mason Wynnwho might turn out to be the best
shortstop in baseball. I'm sorry aLa gave up Bruce fans, but this

(18:18):
guy is unbelievable. And he's twentytwo years old. Yeah, and you
know the Sonny Gray thing. TheReds made an attempt. There's a lot
of people who looked at Saint Louisand said, man, I wouldn't do
I wouldn't do that deal, whichwas what three years, seventy five million
dollars. And he is correct meif I'm wrong. Sonny Gray is thirty
four, might be thirty five, thirty four years old. He's made them

(18:41):
look really really good. Lance LynnIs pitched okay. Sonny Gray has been
terrific this season, and by theway, it's worth mentioning, you know,
the Reds trade him to Minnesota intwenty twenty two. He's really good
for the Twins last year on agood Minnesota team. He has been.
He has been terrific for a Cardinalsteam that is thoroughly in the thick of
things. You've You've made me moreagitated than I already was, Bob.

(19:04):
Thank you, Well, I didn'tI certainly didn't mean to do that less
game, thank you. I mean, I do think it's fair like if
you Cardinals were not good last year, and I don't know that they're good
this season, but they're at leastmarginally relevant, right like, they're very

(19:26):
much in the thick of things. You know, Bob mentioned Aeronauto by his
standards, isn't having a great year. Gold Schmid, who's thirty six by
his standards, is not having agreat season. They have figured out away.
They have figured out a way tohang around. The Brewers, despite
a billion different set of pitching issues, have needless to say, figured out

(19:48):
a way to hang around. TheReds are not hanging around right now,
but Tyler Stevenson says they are kindof like coming together. Five point three

By the way, it is aseven game road trip. I'm i'm,

(20:37):
I'm, I'm literally looking at theschedule. I was corrected via Twitter.
Mo it's a six game road trip. Let's see one two three four
in Saint Louis Now. I didattend public school in Kentucky, but then
there's an off day on Monday. One two three in New York. Four

(21:00):
plus three is seven. I makemathematical mistakes every day, But if you're
going to be a jerk about mymistake, make sure I actually made a
mistake and put your name on it. Cardinals hosting the Reds seven forty five
tonight game is live on seven hundredWLWT. I have the rn L carriers

(21:21):
inside pitch. That's right, doubleduty for me. Andrew Abbott will throw
against Miles. Michaelis Noelve. Marteis eligible to return tonight. The Reds
have not yet released tonight's starting lineup. Florence y'aw's take on Schomberg tonight,
you see basketball news there are Bigtwelve opponents for the twenty Why does this

(21:47):
thing say twenty twenty three, twentytwenty four. It's twenty twenty four.
This graphic is wrong, but theschedule is right. At home this year,
Home Only will play Arizona, ArizonaState, Kansas, Texas Tech,
and TCU Home and road. They'llplay by U Baylor, Utah, West,

(22:08):
Virginia, Kansas State, Away Only, Colorado, Iowa State, Oklahoma
State, Houston, and UCF.Big East tends a media deal that now
includes games on NBC and TNT,some games being streamed, and of course
they are games on FS one inFox and this was announced last night.

(22:30):
Matt Miaska underwent what they're calling successfulsurgery on a torn PCL and torminiscus.
Obviously, his twenty twenty four isover thered. You go, there,
you go. ESPN ranks rosters onethrough thirty two. It's it's list season,
it's ranking season in the NFL.I like. I like these rankings

(22:52):
because they're they're done. I thinkfrom a pretty nuanced and analytics excuse me,
point of view, they've got theBengals with the seventh best roster in
the National Football League. Now,I will admit to you, I have
yet to sit down and rank everyroster in the NFL. Maybe I'll do

(23:18):
that, maybe I won't, butI haven't done that. So but that
seems about right if you're what Iasked. Asked me yesterday. I saw
this yesterday afternoon, yesterday morning, like, all right, where would the
Bengals fit within the the one throughthirty two? Where would they be?
I would have guessed somewhere in thesix to eight range, and seven's right

(23:41):
there in the middle. And look, there's a lot to love about the
roster. That's why they're in thetop quarter of the league. That the
reality is there's some some major majorquestions about their defense. And it's it's
okay, those are questions, andI like some of the potential answers.
But until you see them, there'sstill questions. What is interesting is as

(24:03):
they break these teams down all thirtytwo one through thirty two, they go
through each team's biggest strength, whichfor the Bengals to know, in surprise,
would be wide receiver at the wideout position. And I kind of
expand that to include pass catcher becauseI do think Mike Kasiki can make a
major impact in this offense. Ithink at pass catcher the Bengals are stacked

(24:26):
even without Tyler Boyd. Love theJermaine Burton pick, love the potential for
andre Yosebash. By the way,the Paul Danner junior piece on him and
Chase Brown on the athletic is amust read. You'll get really excited about
those guys. If Trenton Irwin islike your sixth wide receiver, that's really
really good. Now they list thebiggest weakness for every team. Every team

(24:49):
has the biggest weakness. For theBengals, they list running back. This
kind of ties into something we talkedabout with Paul on Tuesday that it still
feels like they're they're not totally wholewith that position, Like, are we
really gonna do the Trayvon Williams andChris Evans thing again. And I think

(25:12):
all of us, like Chase Brown, I think most of us are pretty
excited about what Zach Moss can addto this offense. But it still feels
like they're that samaj p Ryan type. We've been talking about this now for
a while away at that position, and so hey, it's gonna be interesting
to see if they do add arunning back. There are a bunch of

(25:33):
guys out there still available. MeI just think it's gonna be interesting to
see what can they get out ofthat group. Is that the weak link
on the roster. I'm not quitewilling to say yes right now because I
want to see if they're dramatically betteragainst the run. I want to see

(25:53):
if they're gonna be equipped enough inthe secondary to show massive improvement this year.
But you could certainly lead me downa path where we arrive at a
point and all agree that running backis the biggest weakness. If running back
is the biggest weakness on this team, they will win no fewer than twelve

(26:15):
games. Like legitimately, they're ateam where if they run the ball,
they're doing what the other team's defensivecoordinator wants them to. Do something has
to be the biggest weakness. Bythe way, I am kind of concerned.
You know, special teams was notgreat last year. That's got to
be cleaned up and do it,and clean it up while you're trying to
figure out how you're gonna do kickoffswith a new rule. But if if

(26:41):
running back is the biggest weakness, that will tell me the secondary is dramatically
better than it was last year. It'll tell me that more than Trey Hendrickson
got to the quarterback, and itwill tell me that whatever interior of the
defensive line issues plagued them last yearhave been at least partially fixed. And

(27:03):
if those things do happen, thenyeah, I think running back is going
to be the weak link. Weeklink on a really good team means you're
still a group that's better than mostteams, and that could be the case
for this one. When I readthat, I'm like, dude, if
we're ranking position groups from top tobottom on this team by the end of
the year, if running back isthe worst, that will have said a

(27:26):
lot about how explosive they are throwingthe ball, how good the offensive line
is, and how much more improvedthe defense is. You can find those
rankings at ESPN dot com. Moreof your phone calls are coming up.
We've got a lot of injury questionsabout the Reds right and we've got an
expert who's going to answer some ofthem coming up at four thirty three,

(27:48):
and we'll talk about the two fC Cincinnati players who are dealing with injuries
right now as well. Matt Mioskaand Nick Haglan. Also a trade deadline
approach for the Reds that makes sense. That coming up in the four o'clock
hour as well on ESPN fifteen thirtyCincinnati Sports Station GM parted ways see man,
I'm on top of the hockey offseasonnews. Meanwhile, why darn why

(28:11):
does the NBA Draft started? Thesecond round of the NBA Draft start at
four o'clock in the afternoon on aThursday. I'm not sure so Round one
was last night. This draft obviouslyhasn't generated a lot of buzz. There
are two players in this draft whoI loved watching, one of them from
mi alma mater, Deron Holmes, ends up with the Denver Nuggets. And

(28:33):
then I'm a huge Rob Dillingham guy, and he goes to Minnesota after the
Spurs deal the eighth overall pick tothe Timberwolves. I love watching Rob Dillingham
at the University of Kentucky. Thetrades were happening so quickly that neither the
understandably so neither the talent on theESPN set nor the graphic person could keep

(28:56):
up with who was going where. It was kind of amusing. Uh,
they've made it a two day event, which, okay, why is Round
two at four o'clock in the afternoon. Doesn't make a look of sense.
Like there's nothing on TV tonight,is there. Did they move it to
the daytime because of the debate?Oh? Yeah, well maybe yeah,

(29:21):
so we can't have the NBA Draftto night because there's a debate on television.
Possibly the Reds are gonna play tonight on TV and your friend Moe
will be watching that they're not stagingRound two. I mean, I know
it's Round two, so the TVnumbers probably aren't huge anyway, but still
people to watch. Don't put atfour o'clock in the afternoon. And if

(29:41):
you want people to see where Bronniegoes, yeah, like four o'clock.
Really, well, I guess Bronnie'sgonna go fifty five to your Lakers,
And so that's gonna be sort ofon the edge, maybe not the edge
of prime time, but it's gonnabe. It's not gonna be at four
o'clock. Do you want Bronni noseven man for a losing team and he's

(30:03):
the most talked about guy in thisdraft. You'll like it because you like
interesting things. But I do thinkI think it's interesting. I think so.
I think it's interesting to see ifthe Lakers wouldn't take him. I
think it'd be interesting to see whathappened if some other team did take him.
I think it'd be fascinating to seewhat Lebron's reaction would be if they
didn't take Like, I think it'sinteresting, but it's it's a lot of
conversation for a guy who didn't didnot make a dent in college basketball and

(30:27):
seems like a nice kid. AndI'm I'm obviously very happy that his cardiac
issue got resolved, and have noreason or root against him. It's just
if you didn't know any better, you would think Brownie James was a good
college basketball player. He was theseventh man for a bad USC team.
Uh, let's see what do wehave here? Get the mouse to work.

(30:51):
Craig, you're on ESPN fifteen thirty. Haws it going, Craig,
good. Thanks for taking my calmthough. Sure. I've been Mulley and
over since Dusty Baker left the selectionof manager for the Reds, and I'm
really interested in your opinion, uhmy feeling. I'd really like your opinion

(31:12):
about whether my feeling carries water. When Dusty Baker left, Barry Larkin expressed
an interesting becoming manager, David Bellexpressed it an interest. Bell was selected
now Brian Brian Brian Brian Price.Brian Price was hired after Dusty Baker.

(31:36):
Okay, so then David Bell, yes, then David Bell after after a
half season, or Jim Jim,yes, thank you for the correction.
But when Barry Larkin expressed interest,I thought about Barry Lark and I realized
we had you know, prior readshis managers, Pete Rose, Perez,

(32:00):
others. But you know, Ilook at Barry Lark and he looked.
He worked with Zach Cozart, andCozart could hit after working with Larkin.
I don't hear about Cozart anymore. After leaving the Red Well, yeah,
retired, but he wasn't the samewhen he didn't have the tutelage. I

(32:22):
also, when Larkin does broadcasts,Bell has somebody warning a couple of guys
warming up in the bullpen, andhe selects one, and Larkin will say
something pretty innocuous, But that wouldn'thave been his pick because that guy throws
the pitch that the batter most likesto hit, and he already had the

(32:45):
other guy warmed up. What happenspitch home run? I've heard you talk
about and I'm very interested in youropinion because you're concerned about these young Reds
and their development. Steer de laCruz the crew, and I'm thinking of

(33:06):
Very Larkin's ability to develop talent. He understands metrics. He's may not be
the cheerleader of a David Bell. That's yet to be proven. But when
you've talked about recently, maybe someof the blame might have to go to
who's managing the batting coach. Atwhat point, Very Larkin I believe is

(33:34):
he sixty months? Yes, Iwas hoping that to build this young crew
if David Bell's cut loose, butthey gave him a three year contract after
a brilliant half season but that kindof rankled me because I'm wondering, why
are you rewarding him for three yearsso quickly? I'm just interested, mo

(34:00):
am, I on the wrong track. Help me understand why Larkin wouldn't be
a better choice for this young teamright now? That's it? Well,
I think you make some really goodpoints. I mean, Barry, Barry's
worked with Ellie Dela Cruz. Youknow, he goes down there to good
Year and he's not a hood ornament. You know, he's not a former

(34:20):
player who's going to put the uniformon and post for pictures. He gets
out there and he works. Usedto do so with Billy Hamilton. You
mentioned Zach Cozart, has done sowith Ellie Dela Cruz, has done so
with Edwin Arroyo. He gets downthere and works. He is invested in
the success of some of the youngerguys. The Barry Larkin conversation to me

(34:43):
has has always revolved around whether theperson who brings him up wants the Reds
to hire him because he's a Red'sgreat or because they legitimately think that after
a search, he would be thebest guy. My response has always been,
whenever there has been any sort ofvacancy, whether it's post David Post,
Dusty Baker Post, Brian Price,or even when the Bengals have had

(35:07):
a have had a vacancy, Doa search, do a comprehensive search.
Talk to people inside your organization, talk to people outside your organization, talk
to former players, talk to peoplewho haven't been players, talk to people
who work in front offices. Andthen whoever the best person is. After
you do a legitimate search, let'sgo. If the idea is we're just

(35:30):
gonna elevate Barry Larkin, that strikesme as you're doing that, because he's
Barry Larkin. If it's let's doa search and include Barry in the search,
assuming he's interested, and then atthe end of the search he's the
best guy. Sign me up forthat. I am. I am a
fan of searches. I am afan of let's let's turn over some stones

(35:51):
here, let's let's get perspective fromoutsiders. Let's let's learn about our team
and learn about what we're doing bytalking to people who work for other organists.
But sure, if you included Barryin that mix, there's a lot
of validity to the idea that heshould at least be considered, and if
at the end of a full processyou go, you know what, Barry's
the best guy. Awesome. Idon't love the idea of we're gonna can

(36:15):
David Bell, or even when theyhad Brian Price, We're going to can
Brian Price and then just make BarryLark and the guy. That to me
feels like you're doing it for reasonsthat go beyond finding the most qualified person.
I understand one other question then,as a hitchhike to your answer,

(36:35):
which I genuinely appreciate, do youthink, despite the fact he's a past
Red and he's got the name recognition, that he would be a good choice
for this young team to manage them? Now? Well, I think he
would. I think he would beset up for at least moderate success because

(36:58):
the Reds have quality starting pitching, which Brian Price never had and which David
Bell has had sparingly. But that'sgoing in the right direction. I think
if you took what we thought thisyear's team was going to be, and
it's next year's team, but it'shealthy and the younger guys are better,
well, then whoever the manager isis going to be better set up for

(37:20):
success. I'll say this, I'venever I've not seen anything that would make
me believe that he would be abad manager, a poor communicator, a
bad leader. How he would dealwith the media, I'm gonna be honest
with you. I don't know,but I think he's smart enough to figure
it out. I've seen nothing tosuggest he would be a poor manager,
but I think I think managers aregood or bad based on their players.

(37:43):
What I think would be interesting, though, is you know, I've been
a David Bell guy for the betterpart of five and a half years.
The last few weeks have soured mea little bit because I've seen the inability
of or the I've seen mistakes, per I haven't seen stuff that's gone wrong
get fixed. And the question thatI would have, and what neither of

(38:05):
us know, if Barry Larkin oranyone else were the manager, would would
those things be addressed in a waythat minimized the mistakes and made some of
that stuff go away? I don'tknow, But look again, if the
Reds decided to move on from DavidBell and Barry Larkin was mentioned as a
candidate, who would be opposed tothat? What I would be opposed to
would be just simply making him theguy without doing a search. I appreciate

(38:30):
the conversation, Craig, thanks somuch, Thank you. I do think
it's worth mentioning. And look,I didn't like it when Barry Larkin openly
campaigned for Brian Price's job. Ihave gone to Goodyear and I've watched him
work intently with younger guys. It'sfour o'clock. I'm Oeger. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty. This is sportsset up. I'm Doug Brown. Round

(38:58):
two of the NBA just about totip off in New York. The Toronto
Raptors will be on the clock first. Dukes Kyle Philipowski is the most notable
name left out of the party inround one. There will be only twenty
eight picks today. The Suns andseventy six ers each forfeited their second round
pick for violations of free agency rules. Draft coverage now underway on ESPN,

(39:22):
radio and TV. Copa America Soccerin Atlanta tonight Team USA against Panama.
It's their second match in Group C. Landon Donovan, who played one hundred
and fifty seven matches for Team USA, second most all time, says Christian
Polisic is now a team leader. He had worn the armband a little bit
in previous years, but he isnow the unequivocal leader of the team.

(39:45):
And being a leader mean you dodifferent things for your team at different times.
What it meant the other night wasgive me the ball. I'm gonna
take it and put in the backof the net, and he did.
Landon Donovan on Carlin versus Joe,the Americans beat Bolivia to start group play.
Hey, it's Devin Con coming upFriday, Paul George, James Harden,

(40:06):
Klay Thompson. With free agency aboutto start, I'll tell you where
they'll all land before free agency begins. It's on sportsman like six am Eastern
right here in the ESPN Radio ESPNtwo and he SPNU this report. No
one covers the Bengals like ESPN infifteen thirty Cincinnati's sports station. He is

(40:29):
officially back, although I don't yetknow. I haven't yet seen if he's
in the starting lineup. I can'timagine he wouldn't be. Noelleb. Marte
has been activated from the suspended list. Lemon Soto has been sent to Triple
A Louisville, and they have puton the sixty day injured list, right,
I should I should clarify Transferred tothe sixty day angelist Writy Emilio Pagan.

(40:52):
Nowelve Marte is back. His numbersat Louisville were futrid. I'm I
don't care. I okay, Icare. And if this team were performing
better, and if it were morewhole, and if they didn't have as
many guys hurt, and if theyhad more guys contributing offensively, I'd say

(41:14):
stick him in Louisville for a while, let him figure it out. Or
I'd say bring him to the bigclub and bring him off the bench.
How are you not giving Noelve Martea chance? I mean, you've you've
run out. There are a lotof guys who are not having very good
seasons. I have no idea whatto expect. He is a young player.
If there's one thing that this seasonhas taught us, it's you can't

(41:37):
count on young players, even ifthey've had brief flashes of potential, like
Christian and Carnassion. Strand just rapedwhen he got called up last year before
he got hurt. He looked cluelessat the plate. Ellie de la Cruz
has had ups and downs. Ithink more ups than downs. What I

(41:59):
do know about welve Marte is thatguy did nothing but hit when he got
called up. I am willing totake a chance to see whether or not
that can continue. If he couldpick up where he left off. And
if he can't, okay, sowhat the team's bad offensively and it could

(42:19):
just be chalked up as part ofhis development. But he is back with
the club, and as soon asthey release tonight starting lineup Andrew Abbott versus
Miles Michael is tonight in Saint Louis. As soon as they release the night's
starting lineup, we will pass italong to you. How about that good?
After New mowggor ESPN fifteen thirty,Thank you so much for joining us
today, Brendivan and Jones on Baseballlater on this hour. We've spent more

(42:44):
time talking about injuries this week thanI think any one of us would like,
and so we typically do this onWednesdays, but I wasn't here yesterday,
and so we're gonna get one ofthe experts from Ortho Sinsey, doctor
Jonathan Slaughter, and we're gonna gethim to talk about the Christian in carnassion
Strand Ordeal and maybe what's ahead forTJ. Friedel, as well as what's

(43:07):
ahead for both Matt Miasga and NickHaglan. That coming up in just about
twenty five minutes. One other thingon the Bengals list last hour that I
did not mention coming up as well. First though, our buddy Mike,
Mike, what's up? Well, you surprised me? Cut me off guard.

(43:29):
Thank you? Mo Hey. Didyou enjoy the draft last night?
I was. I had my handstied a I was on the air last
night till nine o'clock, and thenwhen I got home, I had a
project I was working on, soI had it on. I did not
watch it as intently as I wouldhave hoped. But let's be honest,

(43:50):
what the New York Knicks did yesterdayand the day before has, for my
money, sort of overshadowed the NBADraft. Yeah, they did a pretty
good job, and Tony and Italked about it today. I just enjoyed
it. Now some years I haven'teven watched the NBA Draft, but I
did last night, and I enjoyedit very much. And Jay Bill said

(44:10):
before the draft started that this wasa particularly good year in his opinion or
draft. Of course, everybody's fallingaway about all the French guys. Yeah,
I like it. I mean it'sit's uh, it's not. It's
not a headline grabbing draft. Ifyou only looked at this through the lens

(44:30):
of college basketball players right now,as a UD grad, I was interested
in where Deron Holmes went. Allyou heard was how the Denver Nuggets were
in love with him, They swinga trade and they get him. I
mentioned before and obviously reed Shepherd wentnumber three overall last night. I love
Rob Dillingham's game. I think thatguy can play and be a really good
rookie in the NBA. I wasinterested where he goes. But if you

(44:53):
if you watch the draft solely throughthe lens of the way we used to
which was college basketball players getting theirnames called, this really wasn't the draft
for you because of the G Leagueunite guys, and because of the guys
from other countries. Yeah, theD League, you night guys now see.
That fascinates me because I don't getto see those guys that often.

(45:13):
But they must be worker waiting someregard, but they're just not popularized.
Like you said, I thought thatone of the steels was Antonio getting Steven
Castle from from uh Yukon. Guy'sa player and a half and really good.
And I'm trying to and the otherguy that I loved that we didn't
see much last year. He washurt with the guard from Providence. I

(45:35):
can't think of his name, moUh off the top of my head.
I know, yes, I knowexactly what you're talking about, because he
didn't play against Xavier when Zavier playedhim, and I am I am being
totally irresponsible and completely drawing a blankand what they they were just given the
details on the athleticism is jumped froma stand and all these other things.

(45:58):
It's just that incredible act. Butevidently he's a pure legit point guard that
will go in right away that theycouldn't say enough good things about it.
Devin who got Devin card. DevinCarter actually played I think most of the
entire year, but it was DevinCarter, Yes, who is a terrific,
terrific defender. I think there area lot of years he went if

(46:21):
I'm not mistaken sixth right, Ithink there are years where it would have
been hard to imagine him going thathigh. But nonetheless, he did.
Yep, So that's that's just kindof one thirteenth. He went thirteen.
That thirteenth makes sense. It goesto show how closely I paid attention last
night. He went thirteenth to Sacramento. That's what it was. I felt

(46:45):
sorry for doing him because they calledhim. Uh uh? Was it San
Antonio that called him? And thenthey traded him before he got off the
datis to Minnesota? Yeah? Uh, this this is this is sort of
this is sort of commonplace in theNBA draft, where it's it's announced that

(47:06):
the team took the player, andthen the player walks up and puts the
hat on, and the player hasn'tbeen told actually that pick has been traded.
It doesn't work like it does inthe NFL draft, where Roger Goodell
will come up and say, hey, there's been a trade and then announce
the team that traded to that spotand the player that they're taking. Yeah,

(47:27):
I'm sure the players kind of confoundeda little bit, or maybe they
hit an inkuin. But I'll tellyou, in Minnesota, with the kind
of club they got, they pickedup a dandy. I agree with you,
dandy. With Stillingham, I thinkhe's among the two guards that I
saw, and this is not exactlygoing out in a limb. I think
he's the most skilled two guard inthe draft. I kind of believe.

(47:52):
You know. Obviously he's only six, maybe six to one and a half,
and so he's going to have toHe's going to have to handle the
ball a lot more than he did. It can tell. But he can
handle the ball, he can pass, he can create his own shot.
He obviously can shoot from outside. He's got to get a little bit bigger,
He's got to be more physical. His wingspan isn't huge, his frame

(48:14):
isn't big. But in terms ofjust raw skill, I loved watching him
last year. I think he'll beable to step in and help out a
team. He's gonna have to.He's not gonna play as much off the
ball as he did at Kentucky, but because of his size, but he
is so skilled with the ball.I think he's gonna fit in almost instantly.

(48:35):
And JJ Reddick who steps in andthe Lakers want to look that first
round draft pick and they get connected, which was a great pick. Yeah
right, that's a terrific pick.So JJ's already working a little magic.
Hey, just real quick I knowyou got to go to the Reds.
I'm looking at hope. I'm hopingon a split here based on the starting
pitching of the of all four games. But you know, the Cardinals pitching

(49:00):
was pretty atrocious during the majority ofthe year, and I haven't been paying
attention last two weeks. They justpassed the Reds from thirteenth twelfth to thirteenth.
Now the Reds are thirteenth or twelveth, so the pitching must have gotten
astronomically better in the last couple ofweeks or month. And then they are
seventeenth and hitting and we're twenty seven. So yeah, I mean, look,

(49:21):
they're getting a good year from SonnyGray, Miles, Michael List.
At the beginning of the season wasa batting team. That hasn't been the
case anymore. If you haven't watchedRyan Fernandez on the mound out of their
bullpen, he has been an absolutemonster. Kyle Gibson is pitching like a
guy eight years younger. They've turnedit on. You mentioned the split at
face value. Any four game serieson the road where you split, you

(49:45):
go, Okay, that's not bad, but the wins have to dramatically outnumber
the losses moving forward, and ifit doesn't start this weekend, they go
to New York to play the Yankeesnext week. If it doesn't start this
weekend, you're just you're putting itoff even further at this At some point
this team has to go on alittle bit of a role. Why not
starting tonight, you sent apathy morethan people being pissed off, or you're

(50:08):
sending more apathy. That's what worriesme. I don't know. I think
it's a good question. Uh I, It's not like it was two years
ago, where there was the initialburst of anger at Phil Castellini on opening
Day and then basically five and ahalf months of apathy. I don't detect

(50:31):
that. By the way, thecrowds this weekend at the ballpark were really
good. I went to the gameon Tuesday. The crowd was really good.
I still think people are paying attention. I think to a degree that's
the Eli de la Cruz factor.Maybe to a lesser degree that's the Hunter
Green factor. But I do believethat. I believe that there are a

(50:54):
lot of fans who are less emotionallyinvested in the season as a whole and
the results. Then they thought thatthey would be when the season started.
And if we get to the middleof August and training camp is underway and
this team is playing out the string. I I've been through that enough that
I know apathy will take over.Yeah, thank you, No, appreciate

(51:16):
the time. Brother, herego Mike, thank you. It's eighteen minutes after
four o'clock. I have two goalsfor the Rats, one short term,
one long term. We'll share themwith you. Next, the Toronto Raptors
select Jonathan Mobo from the University ofSan Francisco. That dude played against the

(51:38):
Bearcats and the n I t JonathanMobo. Yeah, that Ted. This
was Tarran's idea. You know,we do a show during the NFL Draft
and we carry the picks from thepodium. Where are they doing round two
from Tarran? They are doing itfrom I forget the name of the room,
but a room in ESPN studios. So they're not even doing it at
like the Felt Forum or Radio Citywere do they They did it at the

(52:01):
Barclays Center last night, yep.So they're just doing it from some studio
and it's not even the commissioner,it's the other guy. Yep. Wow.
Mark Tatum yep. Why do theyuse the exact same like chime music
that they do for the NFL Draft. Can't the NBA draft get its own
song? Well? I went backand tried to find it, and one

(52:23):
from back in the day was itwas bad. It was yeah, Okay,
for how many years as the ESPNcarre the NBA draft because for years
it was on TNT uh a littlewhile now you're about twenty twenty years Okay,
where I've been? All right? So Terren will keep us updated on
what's happening with the the NBA draft. Johnny Furfey, Johnny Furfey's listed as

(52:47):
the best player available right now.Johnny furfy who I wanted to punch in
the throat when he played against theBearcats, and Lawrence twenty five minutes after
four o'clock, we'll talk injuries,a couple of FC Cincinnati players and one
confounding Reds injury plus TJ. Friedelcoming up in just about ten minutes,
Doctor Jonathan's laughter from Ortho since Brennanmanand Jones on baseball coming up as well,

(53:10):
and in just about an hour.Just about an hour from now,
the folks at Major League Soccer havebeen awesome to us. They continue this
week, Mark followill, who's gotthe match on Saturday. I f C
Cincinnati on the road. He'll joinus coming up at five twenty. They're
doing this like like from the roomthey do the lottery from Wow from Duke

(53:31):
University. Is that Philipowski? Iwanted the Knicks to take him at twenty
six. Well, that's not gonnahappen. It's going to Utah. Yep.
I was on down the Hall lastnight for Lance on a seven hundred
WLW, and the conversation was aboutkind of what now right, Like,

(53:53):
the Reds have played a half seasontonight is I guess game number eighty one,
so it will officially be season aftertonight. And they haven't played well
recently. They have given back muchof that seven game winning streak. They've
gone five and ten since. Theyhave the third worst record in the National

(54:13):
League. And so the question thatI asked was like, what what now?
And my answer to my own questionwas this, And you could tell
me if you disagree, like, let's let's work in. Let's work within
the parameters that are pretty reasonably established. They're probably not going to fire the

(54:36):
manager. You may wish they wouldget rid of David Bell. They're probably
not gonna pay him to not worknext year and the year after that,
they're not gonna sell the team,so they're also not gonna start over.
I find it find it hard tobelieve that they're just gonna junk what they're
doing and go and totally pivot ina different direction. So what now for

(55:00):
this season? Now that question maybegets answered a little bit differently as we
talked about the offseason, but forthis season, and I had two answers.
One wasn't the short term, likeI just I want the slop cleaned
up. I wasn't here to talkabout this yesterday, but the game on

(55:22):
Tuesday night was maddening. A runscores because they just sort of lazily float
the ball back into the infield wherenobody's paying attention. Hunter Green on top
of barfing on the mound because hedoesn't know how to hydrate, he's cutting
off balls that he has no businesscutting off, and he's allowing fat,

(55:44):
slow players to steal bases. TheReds ran the contact play and had a
guy get thrown out at the plateon a ball hit back to the pitcher.
It was just a sloppy baseball game, a sloppy performance. Now,
that in itself is frustrating, butwhen you add it to the growing list
of really sloppy games the Reds haveplayed in recent weeks, it starts to

(56:08):
amplify a problem and it starts tocreate conversations about some big picture stuff.
So in the short term, likethis weekend in Saint Louis, I'd like
it if they could win the seriesor maybe even split it. But more
than anything, can I get somecrisp, crispy plate, crispy, crisply
played baseball. Can I get ridof the slop? In the long term,

(56:32):
I'd like to use the second halfof the season. Yes, it
would be great if they can jumpback into contention, but I would like
to use this season to really kindof identify what they can move forward with
and what they're going to need inorder to legitimately contend in twenty twenty five.

(56:54):
I also really like this from Joelluck Up, who is the statistician
for Sports. I found this onthe great website Redreporter dot com. I
guess Joel's not on Twitter anymore. He's on something called Blue Sky. I'm
gonna be honest with you. I'mon three social media platforms. I don't
have room for another. But theypointed this out. I appreciate them for

(57:16):
doing that. Joel is a smart, funny guy, but he wrote this.
I think the Red's best move thisseason is to deal the small set
of players who aren't part of thefuture, meaning mostly relief pitchers and Frankie
Montas and Jonathan India, to tryto restock the upper minor leagues with players

(57:37):
who can cover for injuries in thefuture. The next prospect wave is a
couple of years away. This thisteam's that gap was exposed this year because
all the guys got hurt. Therewas nothing like the reinforcements who were available

(57:57):
last year. And so that's howyou hand up with Nick Martini and Connor
Caple, And it's it's how youend up having a trade for Santiago Espinal,
and it's it's how you end upauditioning Mike Ford. I think this
is a reasonable approach. None ofthis involves moving on from guys who are
a big part of your future overpaying. None of this really involves even totally

(58:22):
abandoning the idea of you of winningthis year. It sort of does but
not entirely from a trade deadline perspective. That is the most sensible thing that
I have seen. Figure out waysto build depth to be able to withstand
injury better next year. That shouldbe a priority as the deadline years.

(58:44):
Getting healthy should also be a priority. Doctor Jonathan Slaughter on two key Reds
and two key FC Cincinnati players nextwith the thirty third pick in the twenty
twenty four NBA draft, the MilwaukeeBucks, Tyler Smith from Houston, Texas,
and the NBAG League's team McKnight. What's that guy's name again? Tarn

(59:08):
The other guy that's not Adam Silver? What's his name? Mark Tatum?
Mark Tatum? There he is,Mark Tatum. NBA draft coverage continues sports
headlines for a service of Kelsey Chevrolethome of lifetime powertrain protection and guaranteed credit
approval from their family to yours forlife, kelseyschev dot Com. Noelve.

(59:30):
Marte is back. Reds have notyet released their starting lineup, but Marte
is available Tonight. Red's in SaintLouis to take on the Cardinals, first
of four, first of a sevengame road trip. Nasty Twitter guy still
has not deleted his tweet. AndrewAbbott, Miles Michael is seven to forty
five tonight on a seven hundred WLW, Florence hosting Schomberg. Tonight, U

(59:57):
sees basketball opponents home owned on Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Texas Tech,
and TCU home and away BYU Baylor, Utah, West Virginia and Kansas
State. And they play road gamesexclusively against Colorado, Iowa State, Oklahoma
State, Houston, and UCF AndI can't read. Oh. Matt Mioska

(01:00:19):
had successful surgery on his PCL andhis torn meniscus, which leads us to
something we do on a weekly basis. We're doing it a day late this
week because I wasn't here yesterday. But we love having with us the experts
from orthos since Orthopedic Sports Medicine. These guys they have specialists and locations across
the Tri State. They offer walkin orthopedic urgent care, which means you

(01:00:44):
don't need an appointment weekdays nine amto nine pm, Saturdays nine am to
one pm. Learn more at orthosincdot com. That's orthos ci nzy dot
com. Doctor Jonathan Slaughter is withus. It would take me ten minutes
to work through the entire last twomonths as it relates to Christian and Karnasi

(01:01:06):
on strand, So I'm gonna savesome time by not doing that. But
the original injury this year at leastcame after he was hit in a game
that was played two months ago.Today, April twenty seventh, He's gonna
finally have surgery on July the eleventh. Explain to me how and why.

(01:01:27):
So his story is interesting because itwas initial hit by pitch old or sub
acute fracture scene, then Emri startedto come back have more pain than I'll
Actually he does have an Honor stylifracture six to eight weeks apparently cleared by

(01:01:49):
red staff, but I'm guessing thathe was still having some discomfort or pain,
sought a second opinion. Now there'sligament damage and now there's surgery.
So it's a cop story of like, well, how did all this come
about? What took so long? And it's hard because without truly seeing MRIs
imaging examining him, knowing exactly whatthe diagnosis is, it can be difficult.

(01:02:15):
But my guess with him here inligament damage, especially with a known
ulner styloid fracture. So again onthe small finger side of your wrist.
It's that long bone that goes fromthe elbow to the wrist, and you
can feel a little bump on thatsmall finger side right at your wrist.
That's your owner styloid. What attachesto that ulner styloid is a disc of

(01:02:37):
cartilage called your triangular fibro cartilage complexor the TFCC. It almost acts like
a meniscus of the wrist. Myguess, without knowing the true diagnosis,
is that's probably the ligament that istorn. The TFCC. That ligament can
help provide stability between the two longbones of your form, the radius and

(01:03:00):
the ulna. And if he wasstill symptomatic having pain and an MRI showed
tearing of that disc of cartilage,my guess is that's likely what's going to
be repaired, especially if he's havingany subtle instability or some increased movement between
the two bones, the radius andthe alm at the wrist. So the

(01:03:23):
procedure will take place July the eleventh. What we have read, what we've
heard is three month recovery. Thatobviously pretty much kills the rest of his
season, which it stinks on athousand different levels, So kind of walk
me through the timeline and will itend with him being able to go for
the beginning of spring training in twentytwenty five. Yeah. So if it

(01:03:45):
is that TFCC, that disc ofcartilage, and if it is repaarable,
because it's like in mniscus, notall moniscus tears in a knee are repaarable.
Sometimes you just have to debreed them. But if his tear is more
on the edge or the periphery ofthat TFCC, it is repairable. So
then you go in, you repairit, attach it back down to the
ulna or where it's torn off of, and then you immobilize the risk,

(01:04:11):
including trying to limit a rotation ofthe risk for the first six weeks to
get initial healing. Then at thesix week mark, I initiate range of
motion with therapy, just getting rangeof motion back so that when you're getting
to the ten to twelve week orthe three month mark, now you're working
on the strengthening and starting to resumemore normal type activities with the wrist.

(01:04:33):
And again that's if the ligament thathe's having repaired is that TFCC. I
doubt it's one of the bigger ligamentslike a Joe Burrow with a scape of
lunate ligament or a lunotricholat ligament, which there's many other ligaments, but my
guests, especially with an ulner styloid, is that it's at TFCC. Let's

(01:04:54):
talk about TJ. Friedel, andunfortunately in my conversations with many of your
colleagues, he is been a frequenttopic and his back on the injury list
again with a hamstring string. What'sinteresting is he originally suffered the injury in
the game against the Pirates last week, made a great catch, and then
he sits for a day, comesback and plays, and then they ultimately

(01:05:15):
determine let's go ahead and put himon the il. How much risk did
they run by having him play acouple of games while he was dealing with
this. It depends on how badhis initial strain or tear of the hamstring
was. Most likely it was alow grade just partial pull or very minimal
tearing of the hamstring. And soanytime you have an injury to a muscle,

(01:05:38):
you're going to be an increased riskof further injury if you play.
But you're talking about professional athletes thatare playing one hundred and sixty two games
in baseball. By this time ofthe year, I'd say most athletes are
having some sort of aches and painsof going through through the rigors of the
season and so putting him necessarily atrisk for further injury, I would say,

(01:06:00):
especially with how depleted the Reds areright now. Most doctors, if
it was a minor strain, wouldsay, yeah, you could potentially make
this worse. But it was actuallyhot out, which is actually can be
sometimes preventive of muscle pulls. It'smore the cold that we worry about with

(01:06:20):
muscle injuries. I think it wouldprobably be reasonable if it was a very
mild strain of a hamstring to lethim try. All right, So you
you kind of referenced something that Iwas going to ask about next. It's
it hasn't just been hot. Imean, for a while it was.
It was it was unreal. Uh, But that's that's conducive to being able

(01:06:43):
to bounce back from something like this. Because you hear all the time about
cramps in extreme heat. That's notsomething you worry about with something like this
in the weather. So just astrain, no, the cramps you worry
about more due to dehydration. Lackof fluid intake and a electro lights from
how much you're constantly sweating in theheat. So in heat you worry more

(01:07:04):
about heat exhaustion dehydration, which canlead to cramps and muscle and you see
especially in like soccer players, footballplayers going down stretching out due to more
fluid loss, not a true musclepull when when you have tight or strain
of a muscle, Heat can actuallybe more protective because it's easier to stretch

(01:07:27):
out and keep the muscles loose, which can be protective. It's talking about
a pair of FC Cincinnati players,Matt Miosga. Those who follow that team
know how important he is to theirfortunes. His season is over. He
is undergone surgery for a PCL andmoniscus tear. The injury originally suffered a
couple of weeks ago and sort offelt like from the get go he was

(01:07:48):
taken off in a stretcher. Thiswasn't going to be good. So walk
me through this injury. What's hedealing with? Yeah, so injury.
So the post here car ligament isa ligament in the back of the knee
that helps protect against your shin translatingor moving backwards on your thigh bone or

(01:08:14):
your femur. Isolated PCL injuries arenot near as common as like an acl
which we hear about all the time, but usually it's a dashboard type injury
is what we call where the kneeis flexed and it takes a direct blow
causing a shift of the shin boneon the femur or thigh bone. And

(01:08:34):
that's exactly what you saw when hedid that slide tackle trying to save the
cross or the goal which he did. His knee was flexed and his shin
went right into the goalpost, creatingthat dashboard type injury. He then sought
an opinion with medical treatment with doctorsin New York City and they proceeded with

(01:09:00):
a post a cruciate ligament reconstruction ofmeniscus repair. So had the procedure.
Obviously, he's not going to playthis season. Are we talking about something
that could jeopardize the beginning of twentytwenty five? Yeah, And I even
talked with some of my sports docsthat you know, anytime you have an
injury like this that involves some ofthe major liigments of the knee, you

(01:09:23):
really are looking at potential nine monthsfor recovery, so it would put the
initial start of the season in jeopardy. But he is also high level athlete
working with some of the top specialist, top rehab, top trainers, so
he's going to get exceptional rehab thatwill make it possible to come back at

(01:09:46):
the beginning of the season. Onemore to talk about doctor Jonathan Slaughter from
Worthos since he is with US.Nick Haglan, local kid. Another kid
on that back line for FC Cincinnatiis dealing with a broken fibil. He
was carried off the field on astretcher and they're lost in New England last
week. Let's start with that bodypart, the fibula. We hear about

(01:10:08):
it. I think sometimes we hearabout that particular body part and we're not
necessarily certain what it is. Whatis a fibula. So the fibula,
it's one of your in your shin. You have two long bones in your
shin. You've got your big one, which is your tibia, that's your
main weight bearing bone, and thenyou have a smaller, skinnier bone on

(01:10:29):
the outside of your leg called thefibula. Is from the knee down to
the ankle and helps make up partof your ankle joint. What's kind of
interesting about this? The first thingthat the first thing that jumped to mind
to me was there are NFL playerswho have played in football games through fibula
fractures. I think Alex Mack ColeBeasley. Those two players come to mind,
Mac in the Super Bowl. Howis that possible? It all depends

(01:10:53):
on where the fracture is in thefibula. The most common fibula fractures that
we see as orthopedic surgeons are downat the ankle. Usually some you roll
your ankle in you break the fibuladown near the ankle, and depending on
even there, it could be justa small little tip of the very end
of the bone where the ligaments attached, pulls a fleck a bone off,

(01:11:16):
which then acts more like a reallybad low ankle spring you could play through.
The higher up you go in theankle makes it less likely to be
able to play on it, themore likely for some instability of the ankle
that would require surgery. Or sometimesyou can even break it right from like
a direct blow in the midshaft,so right in the middle of the leg,

(01:11:39):
or even up closer to the knee. Those typically, as long as
it's not a twisting injury that disruptsthe ligament that connects the two main bones
of the leg, can be treatedwith partial weight bearing or even full protected
weight bearing, which could potentially allowyou to play through. So what's the
treatment here and should we expect himto return in time for the beginning of

(01:12:02):
next season with a fib A typicalfibular fracture, I would have low or
I would very much expect him tobe back next year, not knowing exactly
where he broke it, but fromeverything and St. Sinsin is very good
about being tight lipped at not shittingthing, letting things slip out, not

(01:12:24):
knowing exactly where it is. Uh, if it's just a if it's a
low fibular fracture, let it heal, protected weight bearing, I mean even
maybe the end into August, potentiallyreturning to play. If it's higher up.
I haven't heard anything that this isgoing to require surgery, so I

(01:12:45):
don't think it's an unstable ankle fracture. I think it's a stable ankle fracture
going to be more lower down andlikely going to be treated either in a
cast or a boot, protected weightbearing uh, get initial healing, start
increasing weight bearing, start working withrehab therapy, increasing strength. So from

(01:13:06):
everything I see, I would besurprised if he's not back at the at
the beginning next year. A lotto discuss, a lot to us sift
through, a lot to pay attentionto. You always provide such great perspective.
We'll do it again, man,Thank you so much. I appreciate
it. MO, thank you, thank you. That's doctor Jonathan Slaughter from

(01:13:26):
Orthosinc. Dot com. The greatthing about Orthos since is they have specialists
on locations all over the Tri State. That includes walkin orthopedic urgent care weekdays
nine a m. To nine pmand on Saturdays nine am to one pm
at both Edgewood and Anderson. It'seasier, and it goes without saying it's
cheaper than going to an er.Whenever you have an urgent orthopedic injury,

(01:13:49):
go to Orthosinc dot com. That'sOrtho ci Ncy dot com. Bred excuse
me, Bredavan and Jones on Baseball'sNext with tea mobile, weillve Marte is
back, baby, and now theseason can begin. What's up? Moegger,
ESPN fifteen thirty five o'clock Happy Houris a service of Mikeelobultra. My

(01:14:15):
weekend starts in fifty four minutes.I will have Actually that's not true.
I have to do the inside pitchcheck that my weekend starts in two hours
and nine minutes right around first pitchtonight. Once I get home, crack
and open an ice cold Michelobultra, and then I'm gonna probably have another one

(01:14:40):
after that, and maybe another andwe'll see how the game goes tonight,
and that may determine how many morewe have. Michelobultra is perfect for this
time of year, no matter whatyou're doing, watching a ballgame, at
the ball game, playing golf poolday, doing a radio show during the
five o'clock out, if you arewatching the debate tonight, which that's not

(01:15:03):
my jam, so that won't beme. But enjoy and ice coool michelob
boltri if that's your thing, whateverit is, it's brute for active people.
Mark Followill is an active person. He is gonna be with us.
This guy's busy now. He isthe TV voice of the Dallas Mavericks.
He is also part of MLS SeasonPass on Apple TV. He is calling

(01:15:25):
the game Saturday FC Cincinnati on theroad at Dallas. We'll chat with Mark
in just about fifteen minutes. Excitedfor that. I have yet to post
a poll question. We've been busywith a lot of other stuff today.
We'll do that a little bit lateron. I think I'm gonna do too.
One We're gonna have some gentle funwith Tyler Stevenson, and the other

(01:15:45):
is about the Bengals' biggest weakness thatcoming up in just a few Marte is
back. Look, man, ignorenow almost everything. Ignore the fact that
you may ormay be disappointed or pissedoff in him for getting suspended and missing
eighty games. You may be concernedabout the fact that during his rehabstint in

(01:16:09):
Louisville he hit a total of onefifty one five hits in fifty three at
bats, with exactly one extra basehit and fifteen strikeouts in fifty three played
appearances. You may be jaded thatcounting on a young guy to help lift
this offense a little bit is aperilous approach, given the fact that we

(01:16:32):
have seen that counting on young playersis well a perilous approach. That said,
the dude that we watched late lastseason I think God is really excited
for the player he may be thisseason. Now. You could say that
about a lot of guys. Youcould say it about Matt McClain, you

(01:16:54):
could say it mostly about Elie dela Cruz. You could say it about
Spencer Steer. You could say itabout Christian and Cronassia Strand. You could
say it about Noel ve Marte.Noelve Marte. It's not like he got
to the big leagues and then didnothing but hit immediately. But he did
finish the season with a sixteen gamehitting streak. He did in that stretch

(01:17:15):
of time, which was I thinkthirty five games, he batted three sixteen.
He didn't hit with an over abundanceof power. He only had three
home runs, including two in thetwo of his last three games. But
the guy looked like he knew howto hit. We have heard great things
about Noel v Marte. He seemedto live up to the hype. He's

(01:17:38):
still, by the way, justtwenty two and a half years old.
So what is he going to dotonight? What is he gonna mean for
this offense? None of us haveany idea. But he is a guy
that for as much as we've talkedabout, I think a little bit more
all the other dudes, all theother injured guys. He is a guy
that a lot of us couldn't waitto see last year, where we were

(01:18:00):
excited when he finally got called up, and then when he did get called
up, especially over the last twoand a half three weeks of the season,
he did nothing but hit. Thisteam could use offense, any offense.
He is probably not going to solvetheir biggest offensive issue, which for
my money, is the inability tohit the ball out of the ballpark.

(01:18:20):
I mean, they could use athumper, but they could use almost anything.
They could use just another hitter. They could use a guy who's good
at getting on base. Noel AMarte. During that stretch last year where
he batted three sixteen, his OBPwas three sixty six, and so he

(01:18:41):
was getting on largely on the strengthof getting base hits. But the guy
that I watched last September could beof great benefit to a team that is
going through just a team wide funk. It feels like and is offensively just
not that good. The question isis what noelve Marte do they get?

(01:19:02):
And I think the conversation about himbrings us back to the beginning of the
season, and it's why, LikeI'm disappointed with where the Reds are,
I'm only frustrated with how they've playedrecently. Like I'll be honest with you,

(01:19:25):
if you would have said to mein early March, Hey, the
Reds are going to approach the midwaypoint and they'll be a below five hundred
team. Didn't sound that far fetched. I mean, it really didn't.
My exasperation has less to do withthe wins and losses and more to do

(01:19:47):
with, well, the slop Ikeep using the same word, the slop.
The slop that they have played withhas been frustrating to watch, and
it's all all the same stuff we'vediscussed for a couple of weeks now.
The bad base running, the illadvised contact plays, the mental miscues,

(01:20:09):
the fielding mistakes, stuff that itjust doesn't feel like gets fixed. That's
frustrating. Some of the injury stuffhas been exasperating, but the overall performance
of the team, relative to whothey haven't had and relative to the inexperience

(01:20:32):
of so many players, is disappointing. It's maybe discouraging. I don't know
that it was to be totally unexpected. They counted on a lot of young
guys staying healthy and getting even betterthis year. They counted on players who
are not so good last season beingeven better, And so it does kind

(01:20:58):
of highlight the fact that the seasonmight be a disappointment. But I don't
know, it's not as massive adisappointment as it would be if this team
went into the season with a wholebunch of established guys. When young players
have poor seasons, when they gothrough slumps, you just sort of shrug
your shoulders and say, well, that's part of the process. So with

(01:21:21):
Noelve Marte, because we watched himlast season, none of us would be
stunned if he put together a goodsecond half of the season, because we
understand how things work with young players. You could tell me if I'm wrong.
I don't think any of us wouldbe surprised if he looks a little

(01:21:42):
bit in over his head by theway, he's joining mid stream. He
did get a bunch of games inLouisville that was essentially his spring training.
He got what twelve games playing forthe Louisville Bats, so not quite a
full spring training, basically a thirdof it. So is he where is
he where he needs to be tojoin in the middle of the season and
help get this team going. Froma statistical standpoint, the numbers are kind

(01:22:08):
of hard to look at, andthey are what they are. Do you
take those with a grain of salt? What do you put more weight on?
How he played at the end ofthe season last year, how he's
performed so far Louisville, by theway, and I got an email here,
well, A Martes offered an explanationas to the ped usage and like
a lot of guys, do kindof played dumb. I'll be honest with

(01:22:30):
you. I don't believe his explanation. I just I find it hard to
believe when these guys say that theyhad no idea what they put in their
body, that that's actually true.On the other hand, I don't care
that much. I care that hecost himself eighty games. I care that
he wasn't available to his team.I don't need an apology. I don't

(01:22:53):
need an explanation. I need himto hit and if he does that,
for my money, all's forgive. And yes, if they make the postseason,
he's not eligible. But noel VeeMarte is back, and I'm excited
to watch him. I'm I'm excitedto see if the guy that we saw
at the end of the year lastyear can make an appearance and stick around

(01:23:14):
for a while, or if theguy that was hitting one fifty one in
Louisville shows up, or if somany of the growing pains that we've seen
younger players to go through end upsort of being the story of his half
season. We'll find out tonight,Reds and Cardinals coming up. By the
way, yes, Noel Vay isin the starting lineup. They did add

(01:23:36):
him to the active roster and heis in the starting lineup. He is
playing third base, and he isbatting sixth five point three, seven four
nine. Fifteen thirty is our phonenumber. Meanwhile, FC Cincinnati is coming
off a loss that was sort ofsandwiched in between a bunch of bad news.
We'll talk about Saturday's tilt Orange andBlue on the road against Dallas with

(01:23:59):
the guy who's gonna call it nexton ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station Cincinnati's
ESP twenty one after five. Thisis ESPF fifteen thirty a FC Cincinnati.
You know, you hate to saythat, it feels like a lot of
air has come out of the balloonbecause they only lost one match, but
they lost a match to a teamthat we think we thought they'd get at

(01:24:21):
least a point against. They loseanother player in Nick Haglan. The Matt
Miyosga news this week was not unexpected, but still sobering. And it was
like a two weeks ago. Theywere getting ready to come back from the
international break and we talked about thisteam kind of hitting the ground running,
which which they did in terms ofgetting points, but they've taken some personnel

(01:24:41):
losses and they do need to playbetter than they did on Saturday. They'll
get a crack at Dallas or RoadTilt on Saturday evening that starts at eight
thirty. You could watch it onApple TV part of MLS Season Pass,
where the game will be called bya guy who is quite busy. He's
the TV voice of the Dallas Mavericks, so obvious he followed their run to
the NBA Finals very very closely andhas the match on Saturday night. Mark

(01:25:04):
Followill is with us. It's goodto have you, Mark, thank you
for joining us. How are youyeah? Great, good to be here,
looking forward to the game. Ihad FC Cincinnati and San Jose a
couple of weeks ago. So thatwas fun. And you know, I
get up your guys way too forsome Big ten network football. So so
who knows, I might be consumingthrough Ohio at some point later on this

(01:25:25):
year, Nile. We we hopethat that's the case. When when you
talked about Saturday Night from a froman FC Cincinnati perspective, is is that
the main angle, at least atthe top, this team trying to figure
out how to get by without somekey guys on the back line. Yeah.
Sure, you know, I heardyour intro, and and maybe I'm
kind of a glass half full guy, you know, I look, there's

(01:25:46):
still a lot of talented players inthis team. And you know, bear
in mind, not only do theyhave two injuries to deal with, the
two serious Winston Matt and oz GettNick Aglin, but you know, being
a Woldo is on red card suspensionfrom last week, and I think,
look, that changed the game lastweek. Obviously there were a couple of
defensive breakdowns leading to the goals inthe first half. Look, I love

(01:26:08):
the fight and the team. Ithought the energy of the crowd some of
it was frustration with the number offouls being called against Cincinnati and not being
reciprocated in terms of fouls against NewEngland. But I thought, uh,
you know, everything was channeling andpointing in the right direction for Cincinnati.
Emilasade pulls one back off the beautyof a delivery from from Luciola Costa and

(01:26:30):
then the red card happens, andI still thought there was a lot of
fight after that. I mean,if you were called with nine players because
they'd used all the subs and Haglanhad the unfortunate injury, they're down to
nine guys and still had a LucaRigano opportunity Origano opportunity to tie the game
that required a say from Eva Chase, the New England goalkeeper, off a
corner kick there in the last andthe last little bit of stopage time.

(01:26:53):
So, uh, this is agood team that obviously you know, you
know how good they are. Theywon Supporter Shield last year, are used
to dealing with adversity. This isgoing to be particularly troubling to lose two
key guys. But that's what theupcoming transfer window is for to try to
fortify that, and that's what youknow you've got a thirty man roster for
and what other guys will step upto do, And so I have no

(01:27:15):
doubt that, especially given their roadtheir road performance this year. You know,
I think it's important to remember thatthese guys have twenty two road points
this year, the most of MajorLeague Soccer, and seven road wins,
also the most in MLS. SoI think you know they're going to have
their head in the right place comingthis game on Saturday. They've also been
really good over the last couple ofseasons at not letting a loss turn into

(01:27:36):
a losing streak, right, andthe main reason why it helps when you
have the reigning league MVP, soLucho Acosta. I ask all your colleagues
every single week when we get oneof them on, like, do you
what superlatives do you use? Howdo you describe them? What's it like
calling a Lucho Acosta match? Ohmy gosh, Yeah, you know,
it's funny. Today I talked toPat Noon and asked if anything that he

(01:28:00):
still surprises him, and I saythat, you know, having that that
San Jose game two weeks ago wherewhere Kubo had the hat trick and all
three goals by Kubo were assisted bya cost To and Pat said when we
talked today, you know, nothing, nothing surprises him. And the great
thing about that performance was that hewasn't having the best game and then all
of a sudden it had three kindof individual moments of brilliance and just you

(01:28:23):
know, the the vision for theball in the first goal, Uh,
you know, the timing for thethird goal. And to me, like
I know that the finish was alittle weird. How how you know there
was a there was a bit ofa fortuitous bounce, but Luco still basically
broke down like four guys in thebox for San Jose. And I know

(01:28:45):
San Jose is not pretty good defensively. Still, that was a master class
and just one dude shredding almost anentire other team. Uh, the way
he set up that second goal.So look, Luco was a very special
player. Delivery on set pieces, his creativity when he adds the ball around
to play, you know the factthat he I mean, look, you

(01:29:09):
can see it, like I said, on that second goal that he sets
up in the San Jose game againstCubo, It's like he strikes fear into
the opponent. Nobody wants to lungein on a challenge and concede a penalty,
or dive in and be made tolook stupid because he maneuvers around him
a nutmeg hum or something like that. So he's just man, there's a
there's a very very long list ofsuperlatives that are available to use, and

(01:29:33):
I just I think, let's seeif I were going to throw a new
one out there. He's capable ofincandescence. How about that? Yeah,
yeah, all right, of incandescencewhen he's at the hype of his game,
which is a lot of the time, at the biggest moments too.
Right, That's that's the thing.I mean, you know, we've we've
seen it time and again. It'soften been with the game hanging in the

(01:29:55):
balance or a result in peril, where he does something that's just on its
own awesome, but the timeliness ofit is is insane. Well, you
know, if I may borrow fromsomething that I saw recently that's kind of
made the rounds and social media, that is the the Roger Federer commencement speech
that he gave at Dartmouth recently.And I look, I think there's there's

(01:30:16):
a great life lessons to be learnedfrom the whole thing. And as it
applies to what you just said andwhat your comment was about about lu Joe
Acosta, he has become, asRoger Federer said in Disconsencyed, I would
recommend anybody go watch it. Butbasically the gist of it is, he
won eighty percent of his matches, but you know the way tennis is,
he only won fifty four percent ofthe points, and so he was able

(01:30:38):
to put each lost point behind him. And he said what he was able
to do was be, you know, have all of his intensity and all
of his focus on the next thing, and he became the master of the
hard moments. And that's sort ofthe life lesson he was trying to impart
upon all the young graduates in thespeech that in your life, when bad
things happen, you put it behindyou and you become the of the heart

(01:31:00):
moments. And I don't necessarily thinkthat Lucho has bad moments that he has
to put behind him. But toyour point about his ability to have this
incandescence and the most important moments ofmatches, he certainly has at this stage
of his career with this club, which he said when he resigned. You
know, I saw the interview thathe gave whenever he resigned. It talked

(01:31:21):
about how important, how long hehad dreamed of being a long term piece
of a great club, and that'swhat he is with FC Cincinnati, and
he has become the master of thehard moments because of his ability to shine,
you know, the brightest, whenthe lights are brightest and the pressure
is the biggest, and he's justable to perform at an extraordinarily high level.

(01:31:43):
That's very well put. Mark Followellfrom MLS season past Apple TV.
FC Cincinnati on the road against Dallas, first time these two sides have met
since twenty nineteen, the Orange andBlues first season in Major League Soccer.
You're down there, so you're alittle bit more familiar with the team than
most. From an SC Cincinnati perspective, What should concern us about Dallas,

(01:32:05):
Well, they acquired Petro Musa, who is a striker who was playing at
Benfica, Croatian international handful of internationalappearances with Croatia. He was playing at
Benfica in Portugal, and that wasa club record transfer fee for e FC
Dallas earlier this year. And PetroMussa has scored nine goals. He's come
to life as of late. Onegoal against Seattle over the weekend. Now,

(01:32:28):
e FC Dallas blew that game. They were up two nil and lost
three two and it fell apart inthe last fifteen minutes essentially, But he
had a hat trick in the midweekgame before that against Minnesota, So that
would be the first thing that Iwould point to. FC Dallas has an
outstanding goalkeeper, Martin poss who's inhis third season with the team and three
years running, has always been amongstthe best in the league and save percentage.

(01:32:50):
Now their new interim manager, PeterLukxan, who was an assistant coach
on Nico Estebus's staff, and Nico, of course was let go a few
weeks ago. I believe after theJune eighth game that they tore against Minnesota
was an Eco's last game. Sothis will be Peter Luksane's fourth game as

(01:33:12):
the interim manager. So there's alwaysthe new manager bang, and so you
know that was evident in the firsttwo games at FC Dallas won and really
they were in position to win threein a row and then it just completely
collapsed on the other night. Butone thing that Peter has said in talking
to him, is he loves howhow well his goalkeeper is playing, but
obviously they would like to take someof the pressure off their goalkeeper. I

(01:33:35):
mean, it's it's great when yourgoalkeeper makes a bunch of saves, but
that also means he's having to makea bunch of saves, which is sort
of the catch twenty two. SoI think you know, they have a
striker who's playing very well. There'sa real focus right now on trying to
get their act together defensively because theyhave the conceeding a lot more goals than
they typically do over the course ofthis season, and they do have one

(01:33:58):
player of Nope back this now. They've got some other injury news that's developing,
including Jesus Baneda coming out of thegame last week against Seattle with an
apparent injury, and I think morenews is going to be coming out about
that as the hours lead up towardskickoff on Saturday night. But they also
have an Endi back from a yellowcart accumulation suspension in the last game against

(01:34:20):
Seattle. He's a deep lying midfeeler, but he is an important component to
their team, and you know, for those who are familiar with the US
national team, not that they getappearances anymore for them, but Paul Auriol
and Sebastian Legit are a couple ofnames I think most people would know and
those are those are other key componentsof what FC Dallas is doing. They
played we're playing with a back threemo whenever the year started. That's what

(01:34:43):
Nico kind of transitioned to. Butsince they've made the managerial change, they've
been setting up a little bit differentlyin each match. So we'll see,
you know how they set up onSaturday against the season Sinnati. That's about
as in depth they scouting reporters Iever could have asked for the match on
Saturday night. I would give youmore. Pass that along to Pat Noon
in eight thirty Apple TV MLS seasonpass FC Cincinnati on the road at Dallas.

(01:35:08):
Your MAVs are on the clock andeleven picks, So I'll let you
run, man. I do appreciatethe time. Thank you so much.
Yeah, well, I think everybodyis all focused on Brownie James. That's
the focus of the second round. Are you guys like you whatever? Are
you guys crossing your fingers hoping maybethe Lakers say no, and like he'll
be the missing piece to a teamthat made the finals. Bronnie, Yeah,

(01:35:29):
I have a feeling the Lakers are. If there's ever a certainty in
the second round, especially in thisweird draft, even more so than Reesa
che going to Atlanta number one,the most certainty in terms of a picking
this NBA draft is Bronny going forthe Lakers at fifty five. Here in
the next twenty or thirty minutes,I guess, all right, well,
we'll let you get to it.Enjoy the match on Santa Man, you

(01:35:51):
got it. Yeah, nice totalk, Mel, you got to do.
Appreciate the time. Thank you somuch. Mark follow Will is the
voice one of the voices of MLSSeason Pass Apple TV. Dude's got a
good broadcaster's voice. I sat therein admiration, Like, Man, I
if I smoked eight packs of cigarettesa day, I could sound like that.
I'd be dead in a few yearsand my skin would look like a

(01:36:12):
baseball mitt. But still eight thirtyon Saturday night, Mark has the game
Apple TV. Of course you couldhear it live on ESPN fifteen thirty as
well. We're way late twenty sevenaway from six o'clock. I was gonna
tell them NA should draft Antonio Reeves. So hopefully Bronie gets drafted before we
get off the air today. Yeah, I mean what, We're on forty

(01:36:35):
seven, so they're eight away.H I don't know, Bronni. It
is twenty seven away from six o'clockon ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Since a few minutes. All Rightsports headlines are a service love Kelsey's Chevrolet

Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Houston, and UCF. The NFL has lost

(01:38:29):
in court. A judge has ruledagainst the NFL in their Class Actions Sunday
Ticket lawsuit. I'm sorry it wasn'ta judge. A jury has entered a
four point zero nine to six billiondollar verdict against the NFL. So,

(01:38:50):
basically, after decades of as thepeople suing the NFL, we'll have essentially
alleged that the NFL house has gougefans for Sunday ticket and order, and
basically they they I'm being very verysloppy with this, like the Reds on

(01:39:13):
the field the last couple of weeks. Basically, the NFL is being accused
of price gouging as far as Iunderstand it, violating anti trust laws.
So four point zero nine six billiondollar verdict in a federal class action lawsuit,
Do I get any of this money? Probably not, Mike Florio writes.

(01:39:38):
Of that amount, ninety six milliongoes to the commercial establishments in this
case, the four billion dollar becomesthe recovery for residential customers. So what
does this mean? I did notget Sunday ticket last year on YouTube.

(01:40:00):
I don't have YouTube TV. I'mmore of a Red Zone channel guy,
but I have been a Sunday ticketcustomer in the past. Do I get
any money? The league says it'sgoing to appeal under federal antitrust laws,
the amount is going to be troubledto twelve point two eight eight billion dollars.

(01:40:26):
The jury asked for the number ofsubscribers per year on the amount each
one paid, So, like,do I get my money back for all
those years I had Sunday ticket.I need like a I'm not here tomorrow.
I want to know if I'm gettingany coin. Also, do we
think the NFL is going to passthese along to you and I the four
point nine six billion dollars along toyou and I? Ah, I mean

(01:40:50):
like all they're gonna do now isis just all they gotta do is say,
look, okay, we have tocome up with four billion dollars,
Let's put a let's put a gameon t EV every day of the week,
and every network will bid for it. Like the NFL will make up
the money in no time. Iwant to know if I'm getting any money.

(01:41:11):
Uh. We have noelve Marte speakingthis thanks for our buddy Jeremy Row.
Noelvee has set to play for theReds to night for the first time
since last year. And here heis via his translator, go ahead,
Okay, Yeah, I think there'sbeen a lot of learning, a lot
of learning over these past couple months. But I've been able to just prepare

(01:41:31):
myself a lot to get to thismoment. If you're ready for this moment,
what'd you learn, okay, Kevinat the Yeah, just small little
things. So I know that youknow things won't happen away untit again.

(01:41:54):
Okay, So four point seven billiondollars goes to the residential class. There
are just over two point four milliondollars of two point four million residential subscribers
in the class action lawsuit? DidI miss the memo about joining this class

(01:42:16):
action lawsuit? According to Warren Sharp, if you were a residential Direct TV
subscriber and purchase Sunday ticket between Juneseventeenth, twenty eleven and February seventh,

(01:42:38):
twenty twenty three, you are inthe class. That's me. I had
Sunday ticket for almost all those years. Residential damage class. So that's four
point seven billion dollars split among allof us, all Direct TV residential subscribers

(01:43:04):
that purchased the NFL Sunday did Howdid I not know I was a part
of this? Does this mean you'regot to take a long vacation? Well?
Yeah, all Direct TV residential subscribersthat purchased the NFL Sunday ticket at
any time between I could tell youthe exact years I had Sunday ticket.

(01:43:28):
I had it in twenty eleven,I had it in twenty twelve. I
did not have it in twenty thirteen. I had it in twenty fourteen,
I had it in twenty sixteen, seventeen, eighteen nineteen, and then I
haven't had it since in twenty twenty. It's you know, pandemic, some

(01:43:55):
financial uncertainty, and then I justliked that. I like the Red Zone
channel more. If I lived outof market where the Bengals are, i'd
subscribe. But I subscribe for anumber of these years. So if you
had Sunday Ticket for basically any pointbetween June of twenty eleven and when they

(01:44:15):
stop being on DirecTV, which wasafter the twenty twenty two season, you
are in the in class and mayreceive damages. This is the best news
I've ever delivered during this show.I'm not the only person here who's gonna
get some of that money, right, I mean, there's sure a lot
of folks in our audience who wereSunday Ticket subscribers during that timeframe. We're

(01:44:40):
getting some of that four point sevenmil. Now, the NFL will absolutely
pass that cost on to you andI somehow like they're gonna put a game
on OnlyFans, and they'll they'll streama game on you know some website that
you know probably has viruses, andhey, hey we've got Tuesday Morning foot
ball and they'll put some more.I mean they'll they'll figure out a way

(01:45:02):
to come up with four point sevenbillion dollars. It's the NFL. They're
they're good at that. What isthat four point seven bill? There are
thirty two NFL franchise so like doeseach I'm gonna do the math here four
point for here's this Dayton math.Yeah, you know, and I got

(01:45:24):
people that are waiting on hold andstuff. Four seven nine six Oh oh
oh oh oh oh. My iPhonecalculator doesn't go that high. What's four
point seven nine six billion dollars dividedby thirty two? I guess I could

(01:45:45):
divide thirty two. Each team's gonnahave to shell out one hundred and forty
million dollars? Is that how I'mreading it? This is great radio,
by the way, times thirty twounder forty million? Yea, each team's
gonna have to show out one hundredHow do you think Mike Brown feels about
that? Well, there's no chanceto resigns now. Let's be honest.

(01:46:16):
Every single owner could, like youknow, reach into their couch cushions and
pull out one hundred and forty milliondollars like that's don't worry, They'll they'll
all be okay, The Brown familywill be okay. I want to know
how much of this coin are wegetting per person? And like, do
you get let's say you subscribed everyyear during this time, do you get
more than someone like me who subscribed, you know, on and off here

(01:46:40):
and there. I have so manyquestions, Taren, I I might ask
you to get somebody on who couldbreak this down for me. On Monday,
I wish I was here tomorrow now. I mean, I'm not going
to give back my vacation day,but I wish I was here tomorrow.
Right. Well, congratulations, Soif I just delivered the news to you

(01:47:00):
that you might get paid by theNFL, Matt, thank you for hanging
on to that awful segment. Howare you? I'm doing pretty well.
It sounds like your day is gettingbetter as we speak. I'm getting up,
I'm getting good. I'm getting achunk of four point eight billion dollars
I've had. I'm having a goodday. I had a insurance settlement from

(01:47:21):
a local, well known insurance company, and I think I got forty bucks.
Very good. You know, youget all fired up about it,
and then you find out that there'sa lot of people they got it to
buy that up a moments. Awireless A wireless A wireless company I was
once a friend of mine said tome years ago, I saw your name
in the paper, and I'm like, oh, yeah, what Ford like

(01:47:43):
a wireless company owes you one hundredand twenty dollars. And I don't remember
how, but I ended up likefiling the paperwork and I got my one
hundred and twenty dollars. Good. All right, So I a good listening
here the entire show. I agreewith you that they got to get the
Reds have got to get rid ofthe slop in their game. I've missed

(01:48:08):
some of the some of it.I don't get to see every game,
but I saw the Stuart Fairchild throwingfrom third from the outfield over third base.
That looks sloppy. And I haveto think that David Bell pulls them
in in the locker, in theprivacy of the locker room, the people

(01:48:30):
that need to know hear about it. I have to think that the guy's
been coaching, the guy's been coachingbaseball playing baseball forever, and I take
all the press conference stuff and kindof throw it out the window because nobody
gets hung out to dry on ina conference. I'm gonna let that go.

(01:48:54):
But to your point, we haveto see, we have to see
better than we here, So let'ssee, let's start see some improvement.
And I don't know what the answeris, but as an institution, the
Reds are as an enterprise, asan organization, they have to get better.
And if they don't get better, there have to be changes. And

(01:49:15):
it may start at the bottom, and it may start in the middle,
but the easiest way for it tostart is at the top. And I'm
afraid that's where it might go.So hopefully we'll start to see what you're
asking for, a tone set ofexcellence as opposed to mediocrity. And who
knows, maybe it's the fact thatStuart Fairchild is not a major, is

(01:49:38):
not in the long term plans ofthe Reds. It just kind of have
to grin and bear it, sowe'll see what happens. Yeah, look,
Matt, I appreciate the phone calland you listening the entire show,
which is almost over. I don'texpect David Bell to make large demonstrations of
his frustrations with his players. Idon't expect him to air them out publicly.

(01:50:00):
I expect the stuff to be corrected. It is the job of any
leader to correct things that need tobe corrected, and if after a while
they can't, then you find someoneelse. I just sent Roger Goodell my
Venmo. Let's make this easy.Whatever the dollar amount is, don't cut

(01:50:23):
me a check and I have tolike you know, the runout. Just
venmo me make it easy, andthat way, like I can stash it.
I don't have to tell anybody. You know what I mean? All
right, if you have enjoyed thisshow, guess what I'm going to do
another one in like fifteen minutes downthe hall before Red's and Cardinals seven hundred
WLW. I'm out tomorrow. I'mgonna go sit on a boat for three

(01:50:45):
days. Chat'll be here. Tarranwill be here. We hope you're here.
I will be here Monday. Havea great weekend. Thank you for
listening, Thanks to Tarran for producing, and thanks to that jury for getting
me paid by the NFL. Thisis es he In fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports
Station. You met with the stableboy, despite your father's orders. He

(01:51:12):
hoisted you onto the saddle and you
