Here saw my good afternoon, Moegger ESPN tifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Appreciate you listening.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Bengals are not practicing today, which means Paul can be
here in the cool confines of our studios here in Kenwood.
We'll get into the Reds. Last night the Elie de
la Cruz show that was on display in Miami. Here
in a bed plus hourly updates from Tony Pike. He's

(00:58):
giving us training camp reports even though there's no training
can tonight. That's the sort of commitment that we make
to covering this team.

Speaker 5 (01:05):
I am jealous of Tony Pike. Why why got a
tent yesterday? He had a tent to do the broadcast
stay the lie they had the broadcast of sincey three
sixty going on over there, and those of us in
the media that have been sweating to just very uncomfortable
levels for a week or two now to walk in

(01:26):
and see him just set up in the beautiful confines
of that blue tent, extreme jealousy. The tent wasn't for him.
The tent is for the equipment yet, but he got
to be under it. He gets to be under it.
I don't care. Why doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
The tent isn't for Prima Donna, Tony. The tent is
to keep the equipment from overheating. Because I go back
to my experience in Los Angeles. I had no tent.
I had really nothing, but I had equipment to broadcast from,
and my only concern was how do I keep this

(02:03):
stuff with the sun beating down on it from overheating.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Is that why you wanted to be so close to
the icebox? Yes, yeah, because there's cooler.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Well yeah, Also, the ice box was plugged into something,
and so I needed to plug into something. But during
commercial breaks, I would put the equipment in the icebox
to cool it off.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I mean, I've I've never wanted to do the long
longest segment ever. Then what a great day. So so
I'm I'm down for whatever. If they ever need any
any time, I'm happy I or just to sit, I
can be I can help with audio, be a two
or key grip. Yeah, you know, any number of things

(02:39):
that I would be happy to do to help the
production time.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Always get some tent to.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Long list of key grips that we employ here.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Paul Daanner Junior covers the Cincinnati Bengals for the Athletic
dot Com. He does a podcast, The Growler podcast Balds
Don't Lie came out today.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, me and you. You turn that around very quickly.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
I did.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I talked about the preseason game on Saturday night and
so much more.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Yeah, there's a lot, there's a lot to discuss. I
thought it was another great discussion. It was, it was,
And so we're ramping up to Sunday. Bengals back out
of practicing tomorrow. They did make a change.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
The workout on Thursday is now gonna be inside the
stadium and not open to the public. They did add
and open to the public workout on August the nineteenth.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
We're gonna watch Joe Burrow on Saturday Night. How about that? Yeah,
you have to be so uncomfortable with this. I am, yeah,
I am.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
I mean you had one ask, really and that was
just please no preseason for this man ever.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
But I am. I'm a flexible person. I'm not rigid. Okay,
I change my mind. I can be swayed. I can
be convinced. Have you changed your mind? I haven't changed
my mind. I hope that next year Joe Burrow doesn't
play in the preseason. I understand why he's playing in
the in the preseason this go round. We talked about

(03:58):
this on your podcast and it was a longer discussion.
I am going to watch on Saturday Night with apprehension
and nervousness that I have not ever had for a
preseason game because the risk reward equation still is not
really in favor of him playing. But I'm also the
guy that's yelled and screamed about how bad they've played
in September.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
So you got to change some things in August. So
they are, So let's do it.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
And you know, I'll give you a silver lining to
that personal cloud there for you, and that is he
feels good enough, the team feels more than comfortable enough
with where he's at physically, with the risks, which the
way he's playing, with where he's just at generally to say, yeah,
this is totally fine, like this is there's no reason
we can't do this. We should be able to do this.

(04:41):
If everybody here is in agreement, so go ahead. That's
a good thing. I mean, if I would have told
you that back in March, right, you just said, I'll
take it. Yeah, put him in the preseason if that
means everybody feels comfortable enough with where he's at. And
I think that's kind of the silver lines he's in.
It's such a comfortable place that everybody feels good about.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Him going out there and going through this whole routine
and playing.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
The second game of the season. Each of the last
couple of years has been clunky. Really the second game
of the year the last three years has been clunky
because you go back to twenty twenty one, they played
the Bears, I think we two and it was awful. Yeah,
well they're gonna play there arguably their toughest ever Week

(05:27):
two opponent on the road. Now, they did play Baltimore
last year, who ended up being really really good. The
Bengals made that game close, but they were terrible offensively
in the first time. I want to beat two and Oh.
I want to beat the Kansas City Chiefs week two.
I want to put them in a maybe an zero
to two hole, depend depending on what happens against Baltimore.
I want to be four and oh at the Ravens
coming here. I can't do that if I'm not two

(05:49):
and Oh. I want to win those games. I want
to play from ahead. I want to make this great
division all. I want to make all the other teams
chase Cincinnati. I want to make Kansas City have to
chase I want to make them play all year long
Arm with the knowledge that in order to get the
higher seed than the Bengals, they've gotta they can't tie him.
So I woult to win that second game. Yeah, I'm

(06:10):
putting a premium on winning Game two. That game really matters.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
So let's go. Let's do what you got to do
in August and go win game two.

Speaker 5 (06:17):
I don't know playing a series in the preseason is
going to change the way to the level that they
play in Game two. I just I just have never
bought the fact that playing in the preseason has had
to do with these slow starts. I understand why Joe
wants to do it, and I will look at Game
one for that. I think it's about the first quarter

(06:40):
or half of Game one really just coming in and
finding that comfort that It's just always been more about
his health, like I just I've just that's what it's been.
I think for the most part has been about the
health of Joe Burrow, not getting all the reps he's
getting right now in practice and in the joint practices

(07:00):
that they're about to have, and whatever he's gonna do
in the preseason game is fine if that's part of
his process what he wants to be part of his
process of going through game day and the off the
field and going into the huddle and just having a
team that goes through that one time with him. That's
like that stuff part is so secondary to me. Then
everything we've been watching out there for the last ten

(07:22):
practices and we'll be watching for the next couple of weeks,
and just.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
You know, Joe danaman Chane nineteen.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Had had a great look that he caught of Burrow
with Andrey Jossi Vash just talking through a play and
then talking to Andre about it afterwards what they're doing,
and Andre was saying, Oh, he's showing me how on
this one to kind of go up a little that
way and then I'll throw it that way. Then he
runs through it, and it's something that we saw him

(07:51):
catch for a touchdown and an eleven on eleven earlier
in practice sessions, and like he's got none of that
in recent years, like that type of stuff to have
develop younger players connections other than Jamar Chase and t Higgins,
and he's had the luxury of the three guys that
that he had. But it's it's so much about sharpening
the sword that way for him more than it is, oh,

(08:12):
this this one drive. I just think that's just a
mental part of feeling prepared for Week one is just
going through that. The actual playing better in week one
and two is about everything that's happening out there right now.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah, how much do we expect him to play Saturday?
A drive? A drive regardless of how the drive goes.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I think, so, what if the drive is one seventy
five yard touchdown pass?

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Woo, that's cool? Yeah, right, yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:38):
What if the drive is two handoffs and a drop
pass and it's.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
A three and out. We've seen that before, we have Yeah, no,
I mean probably right. Maybe they maybe they decide to
go back out the vers second one just because they're
so unhappy with how it went, or they have six
or seven plays scripted, or something like that. I I
don't know specifically, but every single time I have heard
it mentioned, the word drive has been used singularly. Now,

(09:06):
I'm sure there's circumstances that it might change, but I
think for the most part, the idea is go out
there and do a drive and then go sit down.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
First and ten. He drops back to throw and it's
a pick six. He coming back out for another one.
Throw it again, throw it again. Revenge on the mind. Yes,
keep going. That's it.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
That's when you all of a sudden, Jamar comes off
the bench with a helmet and just runs a dough
ball so they can.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Okay, i'd me that'd be all right. Uh? Is he
going to play in all the preseason games? Burrow? Yeah no, No,
I think this is it. This is it, one and done.
I think this is probably it. Okay, yeah, all right.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
I'm just I'm trying to figure out what my level
of anxiety I think this should be your highest level
of anxiety should be just for this first drive, and
then I think you'll be What I'm considering doing is
just turning it on right around eight o'clock on Saturday
and just sort of looking at you guys on Twitter
to Okay, they're not tweeting about season's over, and then Okay,

(10:05):
it happened. He was out there, and now I can
enjoy the rest of the preseason and watch Jake Browning
and Logan Woodside at all.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
It's sort of the theory of leaving a Reds game
in the eighth inning when they're up by one. It's like, look,
if they win, good, they should have won, and I'll
hear about it on the way home. And if they lose,
I didn't want to see that anyway, Right, you just
don't watch, Just just rely on this isn't something you're
gonna want to see unless you can go back and
rewatch it without the anxiety.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
So just just take it that way.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Yeah, I mean, I'll watch it Sunday or Monday or
something just so I could, you know, talk about it
and stuff. But like experiencing that in real time fun.
It isn't going to be necessarily enjoyable. Yeah, I'll make
sure I can just text you directly. Burrows on the ground.
He's holding something like you want me? Do you want
to get it from me?

Speaker 1 (10:52):
No?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
No, No, I don't. How would you like that news delivered?

Speaker 4 (10:54):
It?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Not it would ever happen, of course, just Joe, I have.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
A feeling if it would be something like that, there'd
be no shortage of folks that would. I don't think
you have anything to worry about, Okay, A Marius Mims
is the story of Camp and I want to talk
about him when we come back.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Let's do it.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Paul Tanner Junior on X At Paul Tanner Junior, it's
a quarter after three. He covers the Bengals for the
Athletic and for the Growler podcast, of which on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
This is more exciting than the preseason game itself. I think.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
So you'll have a live, live broadcast, live podcast. Yeah,
at the Nation Kitchen and Bar and MGM. Yeah, that's
from three to from three to four. Dra Or Patrick
is our guest. We're gonna have some free graders down there.
They're doing all kinds of drinking, food specials, and we're
doing giveaways.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
It's going to be a big old party down there.
Three to four.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
That starts at three o'clock. YEP, very good games at
seven o'clock. It's almost sixteen after three. Glad you're with
us today. Paul's here till Paul's here till three forty.

Speaker 5 (11:49):
Five because Tony's gonna take it from there. Tony's gonna
take it from the tent YEP.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
It's sixteen minutes after three o'clock on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
Station Cincinnati's esp YEAH fifteen thirteen thirty, and iHeartRadio Station,
the exclusive audio home of NBC's coverage of the twenty
twenty four Harrisolente.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Twenty two After three. This is ESPN fifteen thirty. Paul
Danner Juniors here from The Athletic and Other Growler podcast.
Bengals and Bucks coming up on Sunday evening live on
ESPN fifteen thirty. That game starts at seven pm. You
wrote about a Marius Mims. Yeah, how much would he
have to fall flat on his face to not be

(12:29):
the starting right tackle week one against New England with
the way things stand right now and his primary competitor
basically saying like, yeah, I'm fine, I'll.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Just join what want you know, I do it.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
I think he could even fall on his face a
little bit on Saturday, But as long as the arrow
those mistakes don't get made the next game against Chicago
or in the joint practice or whatever, if you see
the improvement from that baseline, I think even falling on

(13:01):
his flight face, he still has a good chance of
winning this job because I just they're just so happy
with his attitude and his approach and how he has
been good at fixing the things that haven't gone right
that you're willing to do that versus you know, to me,
what is the bigger question mark on opening day right now?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
To you?

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Trent Brown, who, yeah, he's played ten years, but he's
also sounds like a guy who's played ten years and
he's just like, Eh, I'll get out there and it'll
be fine.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Okay, I'll be fine. It'll be good.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
Like no real enthusiasm or energy or feeling of like,
yeah it matters, versus this guy who, like all you
know from Amariusman's right now is man it matters to him,
like he wants to be really good. He has so
much energy and enthusiasm to get it right and be
a good teammate, and he's got confidence and humility, and

(13:58):
he's making mistakes because he's a rookie.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
But what would you rather have to me?

Speaker 5 (14:04):
I think the bigger question mark the way it stands
today is Trent Brown. Yeah, I need to see some
of Trent Brown, who's never taken a rep next to
Alex Kapa on his life, right. Mims has been doing
that through the off season. Granted, I mean we're talking
about no pads, but you're still the mental aspect of
knowing the system and stuff like that. And I know

(14:25):
that Brown's done it for ten years in the league,
but I just think the idea of him going out
there and just being able to pick up and it's
all good is a little off to me.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
And so we'll see what happens.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
I mean, there's plenty of time for this to play out,
but I think Mems is certainly in the driver's seat
from my spot.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Well, that was the thing, Like I watched the Trent
Brown scrum yesterday.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yeah, the first time we've really had a chance to
talk to him, and it was off putting.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
And then I compare that to you know, your piece
on a Marius Mems and a lot of what we've
heard and read, which was and is. First of all,
we understand his upside is immense, That's why they took
him in the first round, right. But the willingness to learn,
the willingness to learn from mistakes, the willingness to kind
of be a sponge, the attitude and you compare contrast, like,

(15:21):
just on a human level, I want the guy who's like, Yep,
throw it at me, let's go willing, Yeah, willing.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
And it doesn't mean Trent.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Brown's a bad guy or a bad player can't help
this team. But like I watched that yesterday and for
a team that's theme has been urgency and hitting the
ground running, And I got a guy who kind of
acts the way I.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Do at work.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Man, I don't know, yeah, and he's you know what,
And there's an excitement that that brings to others. I mean,
his teammates talk about him he's an offensive lineman like
that doesn't happen all the time. And it's not just
because he's huge, all though the things that they say
about him being you just are funny for people are
just like God, I mean, it's overwhelming, even in a

(16:05):
even on an athletic standpoint in the NFL level. But
his teammates talk about him and the energy and excitement
they get in watching him and seeing how much he
he cares. And there's just a respect level for that.
And I'm not saying that there isn't a respect level
for Trent Brown. I have no way of really knowing that, sure,
but I know how it's gone him down over there. Yeah,

(16:28):
I mean, And so you know, I think that Brown
certainly could go out there and probably be just fine.
But if you're picking and choosing and you're seeing one
thing versus the other, I think you'd have to say, man,
he's just making too many mental errors at this point
of that a veteran can pick up to comfortably put

(16:50):
him out there and they're not getting fixed. You'd have
to see three weeks of him getting fooled by stunts
and games and not passing stuff off or or whatever,
all that type of stuff of that continually giving him
problems for you to say, let's just put the vet
in there. At least we feel like we kind of
know he knows what he's seeing. He's gonna know what

(17:12):
he's seeing. But if it's even and he's not making
all those mistakes or repeating those mistakes. I think we
and I and I and boy, what a great position,
you know, having Trent Brown as a guy who's like
ten year vets off the bench, go get it at
left or right tackle. Look, that's a nice luxury, and
it's actually the ideal scenario. So I think I think

(17:35):
with every day the percentages continue to tick more in
the direction of Mims for me being the starter week one.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Although Trent Brown now has a permanent nickname on this show,
it's Wet Blanket look man, so to try and I say, hey,
what Blanket's going to be starting at right tackle for
Marius Mims for whatever reason, Okay, just default back to
August fifth, when he blanketed everybody at his locker yesterday,

(18:02):
And I'll play the audio in the four o'clock hour
for those who missed it. But like, I watched that
when I got done yesterday, and I'm like, well, that's
the spirit, Trent.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Yeah, here we go.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
It sounds that sounds like a guy that's been in
the league for a decade on a bunch of different
teams and just kind of gone out there and he's
just kind of on his own clock. You know, I
do training camp the way I want to do training camp.
I know how to get myself ready. I'll be fine
when I go out there. Everybody that thinks that I
should be out there practicing or caring about it, and

(18:32):
I don't worry about it, don't worry about it.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
It'll be fine. It'll be fine.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
All right.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
I have six other topics to discuss, all right, in
the next second.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Does that mean we do like a lightning round type
thing or we could if you want to do.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
That, we could because we have an abbreviated amount of
time because we have to.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Tony Tony training Camp report.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
I'm willing to do a lightning round with you. That's
what you'd like, Okay, we'll do that when we come back.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
It's twenty nine minutes after three o'clock Pulte and her
Junior The Growler Podcast live version at the Nation Kitchen
MGM three to four before the preseason game on Saturday afternoon.
And of course you could read his work Theathletic dot Com.
It's twenty nine after three. Sports headlines coming up as

Speaker 4 (19:28):

one nil victory in extra time. They beat Germany the
women advance to take on either Brazil or Spain, who
play today quarterfinal Men's basketball US and Brazil. The Americans
two minutes in have a seven to four lead, looking
to advance to the semifinals. Paul Danner Juniors here at

(20:34):
the Athletic dot Com, The Growler Podcast, and on all
things Bengals.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
Did you see the goal by Sophia Smith? I heard
our office react to it.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
As it happened.

Speaker 5 (20:44):
Unbelievadble, just sick, just awesome. I've seen the replay. Can
we get golden goal?

Speaker 8 (20:49):
Like?

Speaker 4 (20:49):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (20:50):
I despise the fact that after that then it goes
on for another fifteen a walk off, I mean, and
they were talking about how these they the way they
scheduled it, all these games, and then they're moving them
all around France where these athletes are really exhausted in
the one area. Can you cut them a brake where
they don't have to play an extra thirty minutes if
somebody scores a goal? Bo, But can we just the

(21:10):
goal is so much more exciting anyway?

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Why are why are we not? Why is this not happening?

Speaker 4 (21:15):
I don't know, come on, soccer, I don't know. I
do nothing but unbelievable goal. Do we know how McKinley
Jackson is. I don't have an official update on that.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
He just kind of he kind of went down a
little bit, popped up signal for the side, hobbled off.
He looked like he was hobbling. Okay, yeah, that means anything. Yeah,
and then but he didn't believe on a car. But
I don't have you know, we haven't been down there,
and I haven't. I haven't heard anything on that officially.
People see cart and fear of the worst. Yeah, but
I got the sense there's this wasn't like cam sample

(21:47):
card right, cam sample. He went down, an immediate call
for cart happened. Everybody knew this didn't look good, and
it turned out that it wasn't. Unfortunately for him, this
wasn't like that. This was more you know it did.
It didn't feel like it had that type of severity.
Now you never know, stuff like that can happen and
it's worse than you thought. But it did not look

(22:08):
severe like cam sample. You could kind of tell right away.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
The camp sample injury increased the likelihood that maybe they
find a veteran there.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
I I they already felt like they maybe had one
too many there anyway, because when they drafted Cedric Johnson,
and I think they've kind of like what they've seen
them him says round pick, and so they're pretty fully
four edge guys that are that are dudes. I mean,
there are four guys that they want to find time
for though, Si and Murphy behind Heddrickson and Hubbard. So
you already were wondering whether they're what Sample's role was

(22:37):
even gonna be. You got Cedric Johnson, They've got all
these guys in the middle. They're trying to figure out
what they got. Sample was nice because he could do
a little bit of both potentially, but I think Osai
can do a little bit of both potentially too. So
I think they're okay. I don't think they need to
go veteran there. You know, we'll see how it plays
out in camp in the preseason games, but I think

(22:59):
they're probably an okay place where they don't need to
go veteran.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Still feel comfortable that Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson are okay.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Yeah, I think Sam's you know, they're kind of looking
at it. Let's turn this into a positive. There's no
reason for them to be out there playing in these
preseason games anyway, you know, keep yourself rehabbing and getting
your conditioning going, and then when it's time to ramp
up for the season, ramp for the season, but use
it to get yourself fresh, use it to be fresher
on on week one, and get all the way through
the season. For two guys that are on the older

(23:27):
half of the spectrum on this roster. So I think
that's kind of the way it's being viewed. But there's
no concern about them not being fully ready to go
when the Patriots come to down stay on defense.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
How behind is Dax Hill? I don't know, you know,
it fluctuates, man.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
I think you know he was gonna be one that
you he was gonna be, uh you know, he was
gonna have to be like Noah Lyles, right, he was
gonna have to make the late charge to probably win
this thing. Yeah, and then tell the world how good
he is, and then tell everyone how good that might happen.
That might happen if he wins the job. For he
does I told you, right, But I do think that
that's because he it was going to take him longer

(24:06):
to pick it up in general, just getting the reps
in and so we'll see what it looks like at
the end.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
But I think you're.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Starting to see things turn for him a little bit
where he's having some more moments, having some more days,
having less moments that stick out of you know, getting
whether it's beat by Kendrick pryor a couple of times
or whatever. Maybe maybe you're starting to see him go
in the right direction.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
How are things evolving with regards to the running back battle.

Speaker 5 (24:33):
I think they feel like they have two starters and
they have been really happy with Chase Brown Zaglass, really happy,
and I think they feel like people will see that
not only whenever whatever they do in the preseason, but
as the season gets going. So I don't think anybody
views it as a problem or a battle, but it's

(24:56):
going to be a share, Like I know, like fantasy
Dude is going to be enraged, but I think that's
what it is. They they see real value and real
skill with both of these guys, and there's different ways
slightly that they can be used, but they want to
use them both. I think they'll use them both in
a fairly similarly until somebody really changes everyone's mind. A

(25:19):
month or two in like, that's very possible. But I
think entering the season they feel like they've got two
starters that deserve full workloads and they're going to give
them as much as they can. And I don't it
feels like a fifty to fifty type deal to me
right now.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
And I know I asked you this last week. Still
feel like there's a decent chance they get a veteran there.
I still think that's in play.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
The back of that room is still in play, right,
Trevion is there, Chris Evans is there. I don't know
that there's a you know, any either of those two,
specifically Evans obviously that would preclude them from, if they
liked somebody that was available, making a move to put
into the back of that room and as a you know,

(26:00):
as a fail safe.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
So but you know, but as far as the top
of it goes, they feel good.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
If the Bengals had a game that counted tomorrow, who's the.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Punter, Brad Robins probably still yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
I mean you got to you got to see the guys,
and they have been happy with the progress from Robbins
from last year. Darren has been and the other two
are new. I mean they're just I mean, who knows,
and so I just I can't tell you a thing
the same way Zach Taylor can't tell you a thing about.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
The punter battle. I don't know that any anybody can.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
There's a reason there's three of them and Kevin Hubert
was walking around and Joe Burrow was punting. I think
because I think everyone's like, if anybody wants this, Yeah,
if anybody has an idea of how the punting cannot
be an issue this year, feel free to do it,
because they're they're they're interested in anybody that can solve
the problem.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Harrison Butcker gets his deal with Kansas City. Is Evan
McPherson gonna get his anytime soon? I mean, this should
have already happened. I don't understand what's so hard about
Especiallyicker deals. They all look the same, right, Like they're
all in this same range. And I'm sure there's guaranteed

(27:07):
money issues as there always is uh with this that
are slowing things down. But he's so valued you they
know what they have. He should be here.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
There's like seven Kicker deals that are almost identical that
you can just that you can just give to Evan.
It is not done yet. They're grinding it out. I
believe was the quote yesterday that he use. They're trying
to figure and if it happens, good, If it doesn't, whatever,
it should happen. If they don't, it's pretty embarrassing for

(27:40):
the Bengals if they can't figure out a way.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
This is easy, like.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
This is the this is such a one, this is
such a layup. So but hope that they can find
a way to get that done. It seems like An
absolutely is he gonna do a hold in? Maybe no,
he doesn't see it's but he's just kind of like,
I mean, it's different when you're a kicker, although I
would say, you know, kicker year to year, if there's
any possession that right where you see guys just fall

(28:04):
off out of nowhere, right, And I'm not saying it's
gonna happen to Evan, but it happens to kickers sometimes
where you'd want to get that deal, but I don't,
you know, it's just just give Evan the standard deal
and can we all move on with our lives.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
That would be great, Yes, that would be great. He
deserves it. Yeah, what has a guy gotta do?

Speaker 4 (28:21):
Right, He's the second best player from the twenty twenty
one draft, the Bengals twenty twenty one raft.

Speaker 8 (28:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Right, so let's go ahead and get that. Get that
thing done. Get that thing done.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
We did forty four minutes abbreviated segment. We did not
talk about Jamar Chase. Are you relieved? And I don't
have it on the docket.

Speaker 5 (28:38):
There's nothing, there's no new ground to cover, there is
no new ground to cove. I am really thank you,
You're really growing, You're welcome. That's just because you're gonna
use it in the five o'clock hour, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
I'm gonna talk about Brandon Ayuk and the Niners doing
with him what the Bengals didn't do or aren't gonna
do with t Higgins.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Where would you rather have him? Land?

Speaker 5 (28:57):
Not not Cleveland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh or New England, New England,
New England, even.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Though they play in Week one, Yeah, the opener, whatever,
I don't care. I think let's put ten.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Guys on the field against the Patriots in that game.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
I don't want them go to Cleveland. Cleveland's a roster man. Yeah,
if they if Watson can get it figured out, which
is the ultimate question. It's there, we are where we
were a year ago. How many pieces do you need
around a guy? Because they have put one hell of
a roster around him, so I if they can, they're
dangerous and I you would, although if they give up
Marie Cooper Ford, I.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Don't know if that's a wash or not right.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Yeah, latest podcast, Balds Don't Lie, part of the Growler
podcast is up where you get your podcasts and you've
got daily training Camp podcast with Jay Morrison.

Speaker 1 (29:38):

Speaker 3 (29:38):

joins me next.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
It's a quarter to four, twenty one to eleven US
over Brazil. By the way, in men's hoops, this is
esp IN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
Are you paying too much for tur Camp?

Speaker 2 (30:04):
Report? Brook to you by Kimber Credit Union on ESPN
fifteen thirty, The official home of the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
No practice for the Bengals today, but We do not
let that deter us from giving you the latest, most
in depth coverage of Bengals training camp live every hour.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Tony Pike is with me.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
He'll be broadcasting since he three sixty tomorrow from Bengals
training camp.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Today. You're with me here in studio, no practice today.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
In your opinion, there are three battles that between now
and the end of the preseason, or between now and
the end of training camp are most worth paying attention to.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Let's run through all three, starting with number one.

Speaker 9 (30:43):
Yeah, I think number one is the corner position. I
think this is probably the most wrapped up battle to
this point, DJ Turner and dox Hill. And I don't
know that DJ Turner has sprinted to take the spot
as dax Hiale has just kind of let it fall away.
Dax Hield just hasn't had a great camp to this point.
I think running back, I'm sorry, I think corner number two.

(31:06):
I think wide receiver number three is still up in
the air. That's a good battle, it is, and it
feels like each of them possess really good qualities, but
it's what the Bengals need most out of wide receiver three.
For instance, Andre Yosi Vash has kind of been that
solid piece in the slot now. The only problem there
is he's not run a ton of slot, and in
slot receiving, you need to have awareness of what the

(31:29):
protection is when you're hot, when you need to make
adjustments to your route. That's a lot to undertake in
an offseason and fill into that role. Jermaine Burton is
electric a lot of upside, but he's still a rookie,
so the knowledgeist isn't there. Trent Irwin doesn't have the
high end flash, but he's by far the most consistent,
right reliable. He's reliable, So it's gonna come down to

(31:50):
what the Bengals want. And it's another one of those
ripple effects because the longer Jamar Chase isn't practicing, the
more Jermaine Burton is getting those reps and not getting
the slot reps. So it feels like Yoshi Vash and
Trent Irwin right now. Charlie Jones has made a really
good push late in camp. I still think that that
battle is up in the air and then the right
tackle battle. Look, Trent Brown went through individual stuff yesterday,

(32:14):
but you can look at Trent Brown and I know
he's huge, and he said it himself yesterday.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
He's not ready.

Speaker 9 (32:18):
Yeah physically Yeah, how long does that look like? And
if a Marius Mims continues to improve, what does that
look like? Not what I wanted to hear from Trent
Brown yesterday, No, not a resounding confident, just out I
got a month, I'll be ready, Like, not what you
want to hear. And the other one, And I think
it's worth noting. I think running back is a battle
and who's going to start. I just don't have it
as a huge battle because I think regardless of who starts,

(32:41):
the carries are going to be like fifty to fifty
or fifty two forty eight. I feel like it's just
a label for running back to start. But these other
positions obviously carry a little bit more way.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
The Mems thing for me is intriguing because I feel
like his long term upside is really really hot. Sure,
and so to me, if he's on the field week
one means they tap into that upside even earlier. Now
there's a, as you know, a stark difference between showing
what he has shown in practice and doing what he
needs to do in games starting on Saturday night. But

(33:11):
like there are most camp battles. Let the best man
win this one. I'm rooting for Marius Mimes just because
if he wins it, I feel like then it's even
sooner We're going to tap into what feels like a
limitless amount of potential the only night.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
If he wins it.

Speaker 9 (33:25):
What does Trent Brown like, Is there the work ethic
to be like I'm going to be the best backup available,
or if he's called upon, is we don't really know
what we're getting because there are still things. So, for instance,
Marius Mims yesterday, I've talked about the athleticism he just
on that series they were running where they were backed
up and they needed to get out of the two
or three yard the shadow of the goal line. He

(33:47):
just got beat on a speed rush by Miles Murphy.
It would have been a sack, would have been a safety.
There are still instances from a guy who hasn't played
a ton. You play at the college level and then
all of a sudden, what now you're playing in the NFL.
Everyone talks about the speed. Is he adjusted yet to
the speed? And no, knock to Miles Murphy, that's not
Trey Hendrickson. It's not Sam Hubbard, and if you go

(34:07):
up and down the schedule, it's not some of these
defensive ends and edge rushers that the Bengals are gonna
be facing early in the season. So are you willing
to go through those growing pains of a guy that's
got to get adjusted to the speed and the technique
and sacrifice what could be some pressure on Joe Burrow?

Speaker 4 (34:24):
Come back to the Dax Hill thing, because by all accounts,
obviously including yours, DJ Turner has been better. But it's
more of an indictment against Dax Hill. So let's say
he's in the game, in a game that counts. Is
he so bad that the other team is gonna go
screw it? We're throwing right at him.

Speaker 9 (34:43):
I would right now. And again it's the ripple effect
of no Jamar Chase. He's getting beat and again I'm
not not Trent Irwin, Charlie Jones, Yoshi. I mean he's
getting beat by three, four or five receivers for other teams.
And again you're gonna be going against different I wonder
we kicked the rock out of the tire on this
a little bit last week. Is there any conversation with

(35:05):
some of the younger players to get more opportunities of
Dax Hill maybe moving to the nickel or you know,
behind Mike Hilton in that role. Would there be any
conversation of moving him back to safety behind a Von Bell.
I mean, there's just I don't know what the endgame
is if he doesn't improve from a corner standpoint for
the rest.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
Of cancers just not trending in the right direction.

Speaker 9 (35:25):
It's not and you know, I don't know if it
ever was a confident Yes, this is gonna work, but
you thought man athleticism, yeah, skill set, the upside is there.
I can make sense of the move now. Safety is
a pretty done deal. Ginostone and von Bell have been fantastic.
Jordan Battle is a suitable backup. I don't know what

(35:47):
the role is for Dax Hill on this defense right now.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
All right, Tony, thank you so much. Back with you.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
Coming up at four forty five, we'll take a deeper
dive into some of the things happening offensively.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Don't forget Tony.

Speaker 4 (36:00):
He is broadcasting from Bengals training camp tomorrow since he
three sixty from noon to three. Then he'll join me
from Bengals training camp practice three forty five four forty
five and five forty five, and of course everything ramping
up to Saturday preseason opener. Bengals and Bucks kick off
at seven o'clock. Pregame coverage on ESPN fifteen thirty starts
at three h five.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Lots more on the Bengals coming up in a bit.
I do want to.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Play the Trent Brown audio. I understand where Trent Brown
is coming from. I might have the same perspective that
Trent Brown shared if I were him. I still didn't
love it that coming up in the four o'clock hour
as well. Reds win last night, they blow out the
Miami Marlins. We got a chance to watch him put
it in cruise control. They start a four game series

(36:45):
against a bad team with a victory, which is good.
Even better than that was Elie de la Cruz put
on a show, which means we have to talk about it.
I am going to beg the Reds. Beg the Reds
to do something or not do something. I'll figure out which.
Next ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Fall and the Orison Black kick off their preseason schedule.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Against Incredible catch Hip.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
It's the Bengals and Buccaneers in a Pigskin season preview.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
The second effort get the Bangles, but touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Zach Taylor's men proved they're ready for a super Bowl
bound season. Down Bank Football from Dan Ord and Dave Laff.
Coverage starts Saturday at three on ESPN fifteen thirty, the
afictional home of the Bank.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
There you go, Bengals and Bucks on Saturday night. More
on them in a bit Tony Pike four forty five.
A couple of things to let you know about. Let's
begin with the Olympics. Congratulations to the University of Cincinnati's
a net.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
At Chakuoke.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Who wins the silver medal a season best seventy five
point four meters in the hammer throw for Team USA.
That came down just about thirty minutes ago. Congratulations to
a net who was part of one of Dan Hord's
podcasts for Go Bearcats.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
Go check that out. It's terrific. Congratulations.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Also in the Olympics, US men's basketball, our men lead
Brazil forty two to thirty four to four seven to
go in the first half in a quarter final tilt.
This came down the pike thanks to the athletic Jordan Bianke,
who covers Motorsports for the Athletic that the Reds and
Braves are going to play a regular season baseball game

(38:39):
at Bristol Motor Speedway next year. An announcement is planned
for Friday in Bristol. Bristol Motor Speedway, which this Bristol
Motor Speedway hosted a college football game six seven years
ago between Tennessee and Virginia Tech, and the visual looked

(39:01):
really really cool.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
It would see it.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
I guess one hundred and forty six thousand people are
speculating on social media for baseball, which would make it
the largest crowd that baseball has ever had for any
kind of game. Say what you want about how baseball
is run. These one off events that they have done.
You know, they had the game at Rickwood Field earlier
this year. The Reds participated in the Field of Dreams

(39:23):
game a couple of years ago. They've staged games in London.
They've put they have the games in Williamsport every year.
I think they're doing that again this year. They've played
a game in Omaha side of the College World Series.
The Reds played the Cardinals a couple of years ago
in Mexico City.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
These kind of one off events.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
Baseball has done a really really good job of Now
it says regular season game, so much like when the
Reds played in Iowa a couple of years ago. It's
not going to be a series if I'm reading this correctly,
and I think I am. But regular season game at
the Bristol motorsp No date has been reported, although I

(40:03):
guess it wouldn't be that hard. Just the twenty twenty
five schedule is out. Just go find when the Reds
and Braves are gonna play against each other, and it's
gonna be one of those two series. My guess is
on a weekend. But if you're looking for a sort
of a weird venue, a different type of venue to
go see the Reds play Bristol Motor Speedway next year,
Reds Braves be there. What else do we have that

(40:27):
would be a Red's win? Last night they cruise, They
cruise to a win. I hate, I hate to focus
on the negative. I don't like focusing on the negative.
Could someone legitimately explain to me why you love the
contact play? Like legitimately? So the Reds win last night,

(40:51):
going away blow out the Marlins ten to three. Nick
Martinez was terrific. The Reds got a productive game from
Ty France, which was awesome. They got a great game
from Elie de la Cruz, four extra base hits, two doubles,
two homers, drives in three runs and on a day
where the piece comes out Jeff Passing of ESPN, where

(41:14):
Ellie is quoted as saying I'm the most exciting player
in the game, well, he shows you why he has
earned that label. If not the most exciting player, is
certainly one of the most exciting Reds.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
When the ball game ten.

Speaker 4 (41:26):
Three in the UH in the fourth inning last night,
when they're up six runs, Jonathan India gets thrown at
at home and a ball hit to the shortstop with
the guys playing in and me being me and a
hater of the contact play, I put on social media,
like you can still complain about the contact play when
it's six nothing, and I don't want to focus on
the negative. There's a lot of you that kind of

(41:47):
like that last night, and like it's come up a lot.
The Reds have used it a lot. I refuse to
believe that it's good strategy. And I know it's six nothing,
so it's not that big of a deal. But I
refuse to believe that it's good strategy to tell the
guy on third base when the ball is hit run,

(42:09):
when there's a good chance it's hit to a guy
who's going to throw home, and your guy's going to
be out by a thousand feet. This team is in
love with that play. It used it again last night.
I am in love with Ellie Dela Cruz's play. He
had a hitless weekend, he bounced back, he was well.
He was aside from the guy at Dodger Stadium last night,

(42:30):
the ball boy or whatever he was, who was in
play and one of the goofier plays you'll ever see.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Go find that on social media.

Speaker 4 (42:37):
Ellie Dela Cruz was maybe the most talked about baseball
player last night.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
Reds win the game. They're in Miami.

Speaker 4 (42:44):
They're playing a really awful Marlins team that's traded away
a bunch of really good players. So if you are
still watching this clinging to the idea that they can
leap back into contention, it really can only happen if
they take care of business against a terrible team. Maybe
the Marlins aren't the White Sox, and I kind of
want to talk about the White Sox a little bit
later on, but they're really bad. Last night was about

(43:06):
Elie de la Cruz, and I put this on social
media too. This team can frustrate. This franchise can frustrate.
They can make you question how much longer you really
want to invest in this. They can make you question
who's running things, can make you question how good ownership is,
or how good the front office is, or how good

(43:28):
David Bell is. You are very very reasonable if you
are skeptical that this plan is going to deliver the
sort of payoff that we're all looking for.

Speaker 3 (43:37):
Those things are all earned.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
You may have decided to emotionally move on to football,
Move on to something else, Move on to FC Cincinnati,
who had a remarkable.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
Victory of their own last night.

Speaker 4 (43:51):
You may not anticipate these games in August the way
you were last year. You may think it's silly to
cling to the idea that the Reds could jump back
into contention. You may want the Reds to clean house.
You may want the people who own the team to
sell it. You may want David Bell gone. You may

(44:11):
not be a big believer in anything they're doing, and
yet Elie de la Cruz is so worth watching that
you can't help but tune in. At least I can't.
He is not maybe a finished product. He is not

(44:34):
a perfect baseball player. He is still prone to doing
things that could could could could make you want to
punch yourself in the face. We've we've talked about his
base running. He had an error last night, But he's
must watch television. He must watch television in ways that

(44:58):
I can't remember any other being must watch television this century.
That includes the end of Ken Griffy Junior's prime and
the entirety of Joey Vado's career. By the way, you'll
never hear from a bigger Joey Evado fan than the
guy you're listening to right now, whether it's his bat,

(45:20):
his speed, his ability to do things with both that
others can't, the way in which he plays, the swagger
if you will, confidence, the joy like Alide la Cruz
genuinely looks like he's having a blast playing baseball. It's

(45:45):
more fun if they're winning, I guess, but he genuinely
looks like he's having a blast playing baseball. The connection
that young kids make with him. The red social media
account last night tweeted out of there was a kid
in the stands. I guess last night who before each
one of Ellie's home runs told him hit a home run,

(46:07):
and then after the game Ellie gave him a bat.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
What is there not to like?

Speaker 4 (46:15):
I mean, legitimately and again, is he a perfect Find
me a perfect ballplayer? Right now? I'm not looking for perfection.
I'm looking for someone that compels me to watch no
matter what. This team itself can be maddening. This franchise
itself can be very maddening. The way they have played

(46:39):
over the last couple of weeks has sent a lot
of us into the sort of outward despair that you
associate with franchises that are going nowhere. I do not
know if what they're doing is going to work. I
am frustrated for a lot of different reasons, not the

(47:00):
least of which is I'm not entirely sure they're willing
to do everything they can as an organization to win
a world championship. But holy hell, do I love watching
Ellie Dela Cruz play. I'm not telling you to watch.
I don't care if you do. Ain't my job to
tell you to watch. But for this guy, at least

(47:24):
I was excited to watch last night because of Elie
dela Cruz. Not that I paid to watch the baseball game,
but I got my money's worth, so must watch television.
He's also a guy that I beg them to not waste.

(47:46):
I said all summer long. We should probably just reconcile
ourselves with the likelihood that Ellie de la Cruz is
playing baseball somewhere else in twenty thirty.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
That's forever a way.

Speaker 4 (47:58):
The good news is they get him for five more years,
and who knows, maybe they lock into an agreement that
keeps him here even longer. However long he plays here.
Don't do what they did with Joey Evado. I believe
Joey Vado is a Hall of Famer. He's certainly going
to be in the conversation. He is one of the

(48:21):
very best homegrown players they have ever produced, the best
pure hitter they've had in my lifetime, through no fault
of his own. He's also not someone that you associate
with winning. He is perhaps the greatest player the Reds

(48:41):
have ever had that you don't associate with team success. Yes,
he was on a couple of teams that won the division.
Yes he was on four teams that played in the playoffs,
they never advanced. When you think Joey Evado, you don't
think team success. None of that is Joey Evado's faults.
But unfortunately for a lot of us, when we talk

(49:02):
about the most cherished, or most revered or just flat
out best players in franchise history, the list is long
of players that you associate with at least some level
of team success. And then there's Joey Vado. Do not

(49:23):
add Elie de la Cruz and Hunter Green to that list.
I beg them, Hunter Green, you got a guy who's
era in the month of July is zero point three
to three. The way he is pitching right now, you'll
not be able to have a National League Cy Young
Award conversation without vetting Hunter Green's candidacy.

Speaker 3 (49:45):
He to me is also must watch.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
There's a very good chance that Hunter Green, you're gonna
laugh at me for saying this, And this is more
of a statement about how bad they've bid at develop
starting pitchers. There's a better than average chance, he might say,
Hunter Green is the best red starting pitcher they've had
in forty years. We're not there yet. It's not that
far fetched to suggest that we will be there. Do

(50:14):
not waste these guys. Do not waste these guys. I
know it takes more than two people to win. I
know one picture in one shortstop can only do so much.
The greatest baseball players I've ever seen never played in
the World Series.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
But holy hell, Holy hell.

Speaker 4 (50:38):
You have just uber talents, Guys who are easy to market,
guys who are fun to watch, Guys who a lot
of us want to gravitate toward. Players who are just
now starting to scratch the surface, players who are living
up to the hype, guys who are realizing their potential,

(51:00):
and players who have extraordinarily unique skill sets. Do not
waste them. That should be the mandate. Forget any other
team slogan, forget the arguments overrun differential, Do not waste
these two guys. Forget worrying about where either is gonna

(51:24):
be after twenty twenty nine. I don't care win while
you have them. It is an abject shame that Joey
Vado played here from two thousand and seven through twenty
twenty three and they wasted him. And I cannot emphasize
this enough. That's not on joe Evado. That guy put

(51:46):
together some iconic seasons, MVP caliber seasons, some of the
best individual seasons in the history of the franchise for
teams that lost ninety plus games. Do not do that
with Elie de la Cruz and Hunter Green.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Do not.

Speaker 4 (52:03):
I think it sucked beyond belief that when we talk
about Joey Vada, it has to come with the yeah,
but you don't identify him with team success. Do not
make us do that with Elie de la Cruz. Do
not make us do that with Hunter Green. We could
maybe add other names to that conversation as well, you know,

(52:25):
like it's I'm watching him last night and I'm like,
the biggest tragedy in the history of this franchise would
be if this guy does leave and we go yep.
While he was a Read, they never finished better than
third place, or while he was a Red, they never
advanced past the first round of the playoffs, or while
he was a Red, they never played in the postseason

(52:47):
like a lot of the guys from the era that
I grew up in. You know, did they win a
ton with Barry Larkin and Eric Davis at all? No,
they did win. However, don't make Dela Cruz be the
next Joe Evado. Don't make Hunter Green be the next
Joe Evado. Two guys are must watch. Those two guys

(53:09):
are building blocks.

Speaker 3 (53:10):
Now.

Speaker 4 (53:11):
The other end of this is say what you want
about where the franchise is going, what they've done, what
they haven't accomplished, whatever distrust you have in them, whether
or not you want David Bell to go. This is
in two thousand and sixteen, seventeen eighteen. There are some
some very enviable talents that you're supposed to be able

(53:33):
to build around, build around them.

Speaker 3 (53:38):
Twenty two after four.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
Our lines are open today five one, three, seven, four nine,
fifteen thirty and eight six six seven zero two three
seven seven six Ad Moegger on Twitter slash x. Thanks
to our friends at Emory Federal Credit Union. We've got
the video and go check. The show's like halfway over,
but you can still go watch it. Tell us what
we have coming up to. We'll have a pole question

(54:01):
to get to here in a bit. We'll hear the
Trent Brown audio from yesterday, maybe some Scott Saderfield as well.
We have a lot to get to between now and
six plus two more visits with Tony Pike on ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 7 (54:15):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteenth thirte Bengal's training camp day since he
three six years there, bringing you the Orange and Black,
liking ever before, from the Kettering Health Practice Field Tomorrow
at noon on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of
the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (54:31):
Twenty seven after four, Tony is going to join us
in like twenty minutes, and then we have Brediman and
Jones on baseball. I am being told that I'm getting
ahead of myself when it comes to Elie.

Speaker 3 (54:47):
De la Cruz.

Speaker 4 (54:49):
I don't know what else you want the guy to do, man,
I mean legitimately, you know, you may not think he's
going to be as good as I do. You may
not be as excited to watch him, And like I
also understand there's so much frustration with the team and.

Speaker 3 (55:07):
Just the team.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
I mean, like there's no better way to put it.
There's so much frustration with the team because of how
it just kind of feels at times like they're just drifting.
That it may be impossible for you to feel good
about anything. But if I would have said to you

(55:30):
when the Rets called him up, which was fourteen months ago,
that in his second season midway through he will basically
be unpaced to steal eighty bases, have an outside shot
at thirty home runs. I don't know that he's going

(55:51):
to hit ten over the final fifty games, but has
an outside shot.

Speaker 3 (55:55):
He will have been an All Star. He made an
air last night. It was a bad error.

Speaker 4 (56:01):
He I think has improved as a shortstop. That his
numbers will be what they are. You would have said
no to that. What is there to not like? And
even if you think there's a lower ceiling on what
he can do from a productivity standpoint, I think we
would all agree he is a foundational part of whatever

(56:24):
it is the Reds are trying to do, whether that's
for twenty twenty four, twenty five, twenty six, whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (56:34):
I think we would.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
I mean, I think I did this topic on seven
hundred w WELW. When people complain about Elie de la
Cruz or Hunter Green, I laugh because if your issue
is with either of those two guys, this team must
be awesome. I had a boss who once said, I
want to nitpick my best employees because that means my

(56:56):
worst employees are really good. If you're nitpicking Ellie de
la Cruz one Hunter Green, all the other stuff must
be fixed.

Speaker 8 (57:09):
I just.

Speaker 3 (57:12):
You talk about two guys who have lived up to
the hype so far. Hunter Green.

Speaker 4 (57:17):
That took a while. Tommy John surgery had something to
do with it. The COVID year and the interruption of
his development had something to do with it. Dealing with
injuries last year had something to do with it. Him
going through the inevitable struggles that almost every young pitcher
and not named Paul Skeens has to go through as
a part of it. Look at what those two guys
are doing, right, It's part of what makes this season

(57:38):
so frustrating. Right, those two guys are having an All Star,
are each having All Star years, or each having very
good seasons. They're among the two most talked about players
in the sport, and this team's nowhere close to first place. Like,
to me, this should be the mandate moving forward. These
guys are good. These guys have lived up to the hype.

(58:00):
These guys look like they only may get better, or may.

Speaker 3 (58:03):
Only get better.

Speaker 4 (58:03):
I should say, don't waste them, don't waste them, don't
waste talents like this. Twenty nine away from five o'clock
we've got to play the Trent Brown audio. We're probably
gonna be a little bit unfair to Trent Brown. Try
to think of who I want to compare Trent Brown to,

(58:24):
because he gave me a very familiar feeling. Sports headlines,
Tony Pike and more coming up ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station Cincinnati's ESPO.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
Bang it out in their first preseason game. Coverage starts
Saturday at three on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home
of the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (58:46):
Sports headlines are a service of Kelsey Chevy Life, home
of lifetime powertrain protection and guaranteed credit approval from their
family to yours for life, kelseyshev dot com. Bengals' practicing today.
They're practicing tomorrow. Tony, you will join us in eight minutes.
He's doing his show since he three sixty from Bengals

(59:07):
practice tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
Noon to three.

Speaker 4 (59:10):
One quick note, the workout scheduled for Thursday is being
moved inside the stadium that will not be open to
the public.

Speaker 3 (59:18):
They are adding another practice on the.

Speaker 4 (59:20):
Nineteenth, which would be my dad's seventy fifth birthday, that
is going to be able to the public.

Speaker 3 (59:27):
So there you go.

Speaker 4 (59:29):
Meanwhile, the Reds and Marlins again tonight in Miami six
forty this evening. Nickolodolo and Max Meyer on the hill
line up tonight hopefully made well thanks to Madewell Restoration.
Be ready for severe weather with a Madewell pre inspection.
Go to Madwell Restoration dot com. Jonathan India is at
second base, leading off. Ellie deler Cruz at short steering
left Friedel and center. Stevenson behind the plate. Jamer Candelario

(59:53):
is dhing Ty France who homeward last night and had
a three hit evening. He's at first base. Jake Frelian right,
Noelvemar Tay at third base. A couple of other notes.
Tucker Barnhart coming back to the Reds on a minor
league deal, and according to the Athletic Reds and Braves
are going to play a baseball game at a racetrack
next year Bristol Motor Speedway, which will be interesting around.

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
What's that around? They should do that?

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
They should have a race simultaneous to the ball game.

Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Now, that would be fun.

Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
You get two sporting events in one, play baseball on
the infield and have cars go around the oval. I
tear it out like how you're thinking. And then folks
like me, who typically would not really ever want to
attend a car race, would go to the you'd be
exposed to car racing while the baseball game is being played.

Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
I like this, it's like your pit Bull concert b accident.

Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
Yeah, you're all excited because FIU, with their football stadium,
pit Bull bought the naming rights, so it's going to
be pit Bull Stadium. Yes, I'm for this because what
pit Bull should do is take up minute residency and
play all of his concerts there so he never has
to infect the ears of unwilling audience members anywhere else.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
You know, all those people who get dragged to pit
Bull concerts.

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Or tend by accident like you did.

Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
I did attend a pit Bull show, and I told
this story off air really quick. Two thousand and nine,
I was on vacation with my first wife and we
were in Florida and we were flying in and out
of Fort Lauderdale, and the night before we left, the
Marlins were at home and they were playing in the
old stadium with the place the Dolphins play, and I'm like, well,

(01:01:39):
let's go see the Marlins play. I'd never seen the
Marlins play in Miami, so we got tickets.

Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
We go to the game.

Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
It's a Saturday night, and there legitimately might have been
fifteen hundred people in the stands at first pitch and fine, whatever,
and then like in the seventh inning, six seventh inning,
I noticed like suddenly like we had a crowd. And
then as like we got to the last couple of innings,
like there's like but not a sellout, but the lower

(01:02:08):
bowl was full, and I'm like, let's I know it's
not a double header. They wouldn't start a double header
this late. Finally, the guy behind me, I turn around
to go is there something going on after the game.
He's like, yes, it's a concert. It's Flow Rider and
pit Bull. And we stayed for it. And it was
not the most regrettable decision I've ever made. But it's

(01:02:31):
on the list. What else do we have? We have
a couple of Olympic notes. US women's soccer team advances
to the gold medal match with a one nothing win
in extra time over Germany, which is awesome. It will
take on the winner of the tilt between Spain and Brazil.

(01:02:52):
Congratulations to University of Cincinnati's at net at Chakawoke. You'll
understand why I pause when I say that name, because
I don't want to get it wrong. Win's the silver medal.
In the hammer throw, Lebron James is holding his left eye.
He needs three more assists or rebounds to hit our

(01:03:13):
player propu it is uh. They took the score off
the screen. Is it seventy four?

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
Seventy four to fifty one? Yep, we are blowing out Brazil.
This is the quarterfinal match, the last one of the day.
We play Serbia. If we win, correct, it's a seventy
four to fifty one, five minutes forty seconds to go
in the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
So seventy six fifty one eighty just got add one.
Very good.

Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
We also had a Steph Curry prop where he's got
to make over two and a half threes. That isn't.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
I don't think he's tried to three. He's not even
seen him.

Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
He hasn't.

Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
He hasn't tried to three. Us shooting fifty seven point
one percent. They have been mostly better on the glass
than they have been so far in this tournament, and
on their way to advancing to the semi final round
and the Joel embi game, Joel Embiid, Like Joel Embiid.
Last I checked is like fourteen and eight. Is that
what we're looking at tonight?

Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Uh? Yeah, he's still at fourteen and eight.

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
Is Is there anybody who hasn't checked in yet that
we're gonna have to I don't think Halliburton's played.

Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Yeah, halliburn is the only one hasn't played yet.

Speaker 4 (01:04:21):
Like after two games. So the first game he doesn't
play Tatum, the second game, Kurt doesn't play Embiid, and
that we're like, oh, he's doing a terrible job. Like
I know he talked about this on this show. This
isn't some all star barnstorming tour. We're The idea is
to get everybody some time and let the fancy everybody
and make sure everybody's ego is in check. The idea

(01:04:43):
is to take this seriously. It's a high end international competition.
The idea is for the coach to play the players
as he sees fit. If it backfires and they lose,
then he's subject to all sort of second guessing. They
haven't come close to losing, Like this isn't nineteen ninety two,
This isn't Chuck Daly's there, roll out the balls and

(01:05:05):
never call a time out. Now, they have so far
made mincemeat of everybody they've played, but he's he's coaching
these games like their NBA games, and an NBA game
is not everybody plays. And yeah, we're dealing with big
egos and we're dealing with major superstars. And Joel Embiid
handled himself very well, by the way. The less he plays,

(01:05:25):
the less the likelihood of, like an opposing player getting
tackled or hitting the stones. So he's really doing the
rest of the world of favor. Seventy seven to fifty three. Now, uh,
we have a Tony Pike? Was that ad with that
put back? This is fun to watch. My goodness, how
far behind are you? I'm behind. I'm watching on USA.

(01:05:46):
What is the score on your TV? Seventy see it's
seventy nine fifty three four thirteen to go four six
four five, all right, so I'm eight seconds behind. This
team is fun watch. Tony Pike joins us on the Bengals.

Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Next Hollywood Casino.

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
Lawrence Bergo of ESPN fifteen thirty the you Official Home
of the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Off date for the Bengals not an off date for
Tony Pike training camp reports every hour. Don't forget since
he three sixty tomorrow from Bengals training camp from noon
to three Bengals back at work tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Let's talk about what's.

Speaker 4 (01:06:23):
Been sort of a theme of training camp, and that
is the deployment of twelve personnel. Now, most listening to this,
I would imagine have at least some idea of what
twelve personnel is. But since we're hearing it a lot,
I'm sure we have some who are like, Yeah, I
don't know what that is, and maybe they're afraid to ask.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
I'll ask on their behalf, what does twelve personnel mean?

Speaker 9 (01:06:42):
Twelve personnel is essentially talking about the offensive personnel to
run on the field. Twelve means one running back, two
tight ends, two wide receivers. So, in the instance for
the Cincinnati Bengals, a player like Eric Hall who has
flashed as a legitimate tight end threat, Mike Kasicki, and
and then you'd have T Higgins, Jamar Chase and running
back number one. Now, obviously, what this does it puts

(01:07:05):
pressure on the defense because the defense then has to
get bigger as well. So bigger linebacker sets then you
can move the tight ends around. That's why Kasiki's such
a weapon because the defense has to adjust to twelve
personnel and if they don't, then you just run the
ball down their throat.

Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
So it allows for more.

Speaker 9 (01:07:24):
In the run game, and it also allows in play
action pass and the Bengals have done a ton in
camp thus far with under center, play action, movement, play action,
moving the pocket, play action, hitting teams down the field.
I think that's a legitimate weapon that this team hasn't
and it also it really pushes does twelve personnel a

(01:07:45):
defense from a coverage standpoint very rarely in twelve personnel
does a defense keep too high safeties because of the
run threat, So you have to bring another hat in
the box, which gives you as a quarterback and idea,
it's probably going to be cover three one high zone
and there's a lot of different ways you can attack that.
So twelve personnel we hear it all the time. You

(01:08:05):
just can't run it out there. You have to have
the personnel to run it out there. Yeah, and I
think the Bengals have a good set of personnel groupings
in twelve that can make them dangerous with that and
Joe looks comfortable. Yeah, and that was the thing that
the calf prohibited him from doing anything. And then Jake
Browning came in. It was like, oh, why are they
going under center so much? Joe couldn't last year And
it has certainly been a focal point early in camp.

(01:08:29):
What that means when we get into the regular season
if we see it more. But they have the first
leg of this, they have the personnel to do it again.
You can't just run it out there if you've got,
you know, a tight end group that isn't able to
push the ball down the field or present themselves in
the blocking game.

Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
Tony, you left me speechless. Thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Back at it at to five forty five and Tony
is back for since he three to sixty from Bengals
training camp.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
From noon to three tomorrow, I will play.

Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
The Trent Brown audio because I didn't like it and
I'm probably being a little bit unfair. Plus we'll hear
from Scott Saderfield. We'll talk more about Ellie de la
Cruze's performance last night, and some dude on Twitter as
man that those of us who like to wear hats.
But first it's time for Veneman and Jones on.

Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
You've been having tacos in Paris.

Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
I don't know if they're having tacos in Paris.

Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
I'm sure they.

Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
I'm sure they have tacos, and I'm sure there are
taco joints in Paris. I'm trying to think of what
we're having for dinner tonight. I don't tear them. I
don't think it's tacos. You know what I think we're
gonna do tonight, when I was on vacation, I had
the greatest pasta dish of my lifetime. And I've been
thinking about this pasta dish for almost two and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Weeks, and I believe.

Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
Tonight is the night I think I have I think
I have narrowed down what the ingredients are, and tonight
is the night that I'm gonna replicate it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
In the absence of that, I'll make tacos hi. Good afternoon.

Speaker 4 (01:10:46):
An interesting start to the hour, I guess this is
ESPN fifteen thirty. I'm oegar, it's the michelob Ultra of
five o'clock Happy Hour. If you have listened to today's show,
it might sound like we we tapped into the make
Ultra a little bit early. Michelob Ultra is is per
Today was uber hot, it ridiculous outside. I love days
like this because you can always cool off with a

(01:11:06):
nice cold mic Ultra. Whatever you're doing, maybe maybe you're
lounging by the pool, Maybe you're gonna watch the ball
game tonight. Maybe you're going to the football tilt on
on Saturday. Maybe it's a round of golf. Maybe it's
doing the last hour of your talk show. Michelob Ultra
is perfect for each of those things. Try one, now,
get a six pack for the way home. I might

(01:11:27):
have a mic Ultra well. I try to replicate this
pasta dish.

Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
Wish me luck.

Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
It's red pepper sauce based the single greatest pasta dish
I've ever had in my life, and I haven't stopped
thinking about it. My poor wife has done nothing but
here about this for two weeks. US is blowing out
Brazil one fourteen to eighty last Czech Kentucky's Devin Booker
the high man for the US with eighteen points.

Speaker 3 (01:11:52):
Just about three minutes to go Red's and Marlins.

Speaker 4 (01:11:54):
Tonight. Tucker Barnhart is back with Cincinnati on a minor
league deal. Frankly, one of my favorite play of a
recent year of recent yere. I like Tucker Barnhardt. Bengals
not practicing today, They're back at it tomorrow. More from
Tony Pike coming up at five forty five, will slobber
over Elie de la Cruzimore and I have just tweeted

(01:12:15):
out two pole questions. One is about what the Reds
are reportedly gonna do next year. They're gonna play a
game at the Bristol Motor Speedway against the Atlanta Braves,
which I don't have a map in front of me.
Feels like Bristol's kind of midway between here in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
Correct. I don't know, but I would think.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
In fact, I know this, the Reds and Braves are
the two teams closest, so they're gonna play baseball at
a cart racing track. We have a question about that.
Thanks to United Heartland Insurance for all of your insurance
needs United Heartland Insurance, uhi ands dot com. And the
other questions about Jim Harball, who is playing dumb, which
I don't think is that hard for him to do.

(01:12:58):
We have a pole question about it him playing dumb
regarding what's been leaked involving the NCAA's notice of allegation
that's going to be coming toward Michigan for the whole
science dealing thing. By the way, I cannot wait to
watch the Cotter Stallions dot on Netflix. I reference this.
Trent Brown has played in the NFL for a while.
He's had a good career, and none of us were

(01:13:21):
unhappy when the Bengals signed him this offseason. If he
is your starting right tackle, fine, If he is your
backup tackle, maybe the swing tackle. For my money, that's
even better because it tells me that a Marius Mimms
has earned the gig. And you know, Danner was with

(01:13:41):
us before he's written about this. Marius Mimms has kind
of been the story of training camp, which is awesome.
Marius Mims has a lot of upside. I think so
far he is demonstrated and maybe this will be disproven
in the preseason games, but he has demonstrated that he's
not a project, that he is dealing with a little
bit of an experience gap, but the guy can still play,

(01:14:03):
and I think we all feel like he has a
lot of upside, and to me, the earlier he plays,
then the earlier he taps into that upside. He is
also if you have been following the dispatches from training camp,
he's he's earned rave reviews because of his attitude and
his coachability if you will, and his enthusiasm and his

(01:14:25):
work ethic and all that stuff, which is great to hear.

Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
It's awesome to hear. He comes off as a guy
who gets it.

Speaker 4 (01:14:35):
I don't know if Trent Brown gets it or doesn't
get it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
I think on some level.

Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
If you play for as long as Trent Brown has
played in the NFL, you've got to get it on
some basic level. But he was with reporters yesterday standing
in front of his locker with his uh well noticeable
tattoo that a lot of people on social media spend
time on, and Uh, I don't know. Maybe maybe maybe

(01:15:01):
I'm being mean. I will allow for that. Maybe I'm
being nitpicky. I'll certainly allow for that. I didn't love this.
I didn't love this. Terror Give me the the audio
of Trent Brown yesterday talking with reporters about playing getting
in shape, maybe playing in the preseason from yesterday.

Speaker 6 (01:15:21):
Uh, it's easy, man, It's about that time, about a
month out now, gotta get in some type of football
shape with us being a month away from our first game.
So I'm just following credit card.

Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
What kind of kept on?

Speaker 6 (01:15:36):
Say?

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
What what kind of kept on there?

Speaker 6 (01:15:38):
I'd rather keep that quiet.

Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
What is kind of the biggest thing you worked on
this offseason as you kind of got.

Speaker 8 (01:15:44):
Ready to come here?

Speaker 6 (01:15:45):
I mean I just did the same thing. Where would do?
Where was my pts? Just to be able to be healthy? Uh,
just kind of getting up there in age. I guess,
so where's your coming from in this offense round? I
still got to get some reps under my belt and
working with the guys around me. But like I said,
I got a lot of reps under my belt already,

(01:16:06):
So it'll it'll be fine as long as I get
to terminology down and just be like riding the horse
from riding the.

Speaker 8 (01:16:11):
Bout you worried about you potentially playing in the preseason
or not.

Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
Is it good to have that rapport with your head
coach coming into this type of situation.

Speaker 6 (01:16:24):
Absolutely, Like I said, I already got I'm this is
your team for me, got a lot of reps under
my belt. I think I kind of know how the
game is played and how it needs to be played,
and what's what's expected of myself from from my myself
and from a team standpoint. So I think I'll be
just fine. I don't think so, I mean, I don't think.

(01:16:44):
I don't think it really makes a difference to go
out there for a series and then you're gonna play
again for like a month or three weeks, two weeks, whatever,
So it is what it is. I think, Uh, I
think I'll be just fine.

Speaker 9 (01:17:00):
But with those that must be more valuable, just more
wraps in a joint practice.

Speaker 6 (01:17:05):
I'd say every rep is valuable for sure. It's just
it's just all about being smart. Really, I can't hear you.

Speaker 11 (01:17:13):
What is.

Speaker 8 (01:17:15):
Music?

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
Turn the music down? What are you doing?

Speaker 6 (01:17:19):
Like I said, it is just getting in football sax.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
That's it, getting in football shape.

Speaker 6 (01:17:24):
I think I'm really close. I just got to get
out of there with my guys.

Speaker 8 (01:17:30):
Competition.

Speaker 6 (01:17:35):
It'll play out, it'll play it, stuff out. I'm not working.

Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
That's uh, that's Trent Brown.

Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
Yeah, it could have turned down the music, but but
that's that's that's uh, that's Trent Brown.

Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
He's he's got to get himself in football.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
It's August sixth, man, Like this isn't nineteen seventy two,
where you know guys were working at department stores and
selling copiers in the offseason. Like your job to be
in football shape when camp start. It's camp's been under
way for a couple of weeks. Now I got to

(01:18:09):
get in football shape. Trent Brown is probably a really
good guy, and his tattoo gave me a lot of
amusement when I saw it last night. In that video clip,
we played the audio from.

Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
It and.

Speaker 4 (01:18:26):
There's a very good chance he's helpful to this team
this year. But like, have you ever been really enthusiastic
about something, Maybe it's something at work, and you're really
ready to get started on it, and you're really excited
about it, and you go and tell someone and they're like, yeah, Like,

(01:18:46):
there's I have By the way, I have, I have
made a decision in the last five or six years
to remove those people from my life, like perpetual wet blankets,
Like there's there's nothing worth, nothing worse than you're excited
about something and you tell it to someone.

Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
And like yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Like I don't follow those people on social media anymore.
I don't have those people in my life. That's kind
of what Trent Brown reminded me of, though, Like for
a couple of weeks, all the talk has been about urgency,
right and wanting to hit the ground running and excitement,
and like there have been some things that have kind
of run counter to that a little bit. The Jamar

(01:19:26):
Chase thing has. Let's be honest, there's a little bit
more oomph to the entire thing. If Jamar Chase is participating,
and if you believe that Trey Hendrickson is not entirely
out because he's hurt. Maybe you could say the same
thing about him. I don't know that I'm willing to
go there. But like all the talk for weeks has
been about like, here we go, gotta hit the ground running, urgency,

(01:19:48):
this is our year bounce back. And then Trent Brown's like, yeah, man,
you know, and I just, ah, we got about a month.

Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:19:57):
I'm not really in shape. I don't want to play
in the preseason. I mean again, maybe I'm being a
little unfair. Maybe Trent Brown ends up being really good.

Speaker 3 (01:20:10):
I hope he is.

Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
Maybe he ends up being a huge asset to this organization.
I hope he is. He's had a fine NFL career,
and there is I think there is always some merit
to believing that an athlete of a certain amount of
experience knows what he or she has to do to
get ready for competition.

Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
I do believe that. But I mean, come on, the.

Speaker 4 (01:20:32):
Message all along has been one of urgency and enthusiasm
and intensity, and you know, we got to get things
going and we're not going to be waiting and let
and then our guy try Yeah, you know, you know
whatever I mean, Okay, get myself in shape, and then

(01:20:53):
I have to play in the preseason. I care about
joint practice.

Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
There's there's a little bit of a wet blanket there, right,
that's that's that's the guy. When I early in my career, Man,
we had a guy and I was like all fired
up to work with him and fire it up to
produce his show. And I come in and I got
ideas and he's like, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
You don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:21:16):
Man, take some phone calls like Okay, I'm sorry, sorry
for caring, sorry for having enthusiasm. That's Trent Brown, the
wet blanket. That's his new nickname. I'm not sure that
I would say that to his face. He also doesn't
exactly cut a portrait of a guy who's in awesome shape.
I'm not gonna lie to you. The tattoo is cool

(01:21:39):
that everybody's been talking about. Yeah, I don't know. It's
games games in a month. I just need some reps,
like what if I'm being unfair, feel free to tell me.
But like the message from it, And what's been fun
to talk to Tony, talk to Paul and watch everything

(01:22:01):
happening down there has been one of like we we've
got to approach this different than we have because we
can't screw around anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
We got to hit the ground running. Let's get off
to a quick start.

Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
Let's eliminate and get rid of whatever lingering questions there
are about this team. Let's go and then our guy
over here is kind of operating on his own schedule,
and there's something that's sort of not fun about that.
Eighteen after five five point three seven four nine, fifteen

(01:22:34):
thirty is our phone number, Scott Saderfield Talk today, U
see is a Higher Ground they practice tonight. Actually we'll
hear from the coach of the Bearcats and take some
phone calls and chat with Tony Pike. Some more coming
up on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (01:22:50):
I misspoke, I've just made a mistake. Happened, Scott Saderfield Audio.

Speaker 4 (01:22:57):
We're gonna play for you as from yesterday, But they're
practicing tonight or putting on protective gear at Higher Ground,
which is an awesome place to go watch.

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
Camp under the lights.

Speaker 4 (01:23:08):
Uh yeah, I had the lights on and I would
go to camp tonight, but I'm committed to making my
pasta and also I'm not going to be home tomorrow.
Or Thursday, and I don't want to get a divorce.
So I had a decision to make. Do I go
to a football practice or do I try to make
pasta and hang out with my wife and kid? And
as much as I love the Bearcats, pasta and wife
and kid win.

Speaker 1 (01:23:29):
And honestlet with technology today, you could just FaceTime a
friend Chad Brenda.

Speaker 4 (01:23:33):
Yeah, I got Chad there for me. Scott Springer's there.
Get like Springer on tomorrow and give us. We'll get
a summation from him. Phil Steels on the show tomorrow too, right,
And I'm also watching a Greco Roman wrestling.

Speaker 3 (01:23:49):
These are the people are quite small, diminutive?

Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
What is MGA? Who's m GA?

Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
Mongolia?

Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
Sound about?

Speaker 8 (01:23:58):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
See, I'm gonna have to yes, Mongolia in Asia?

Speaker 6 (01:24:05):
All right?

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
Do we know who the is this? This is the
semi final. Do we know who the American is? Uh No,
she's up to nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
Greco Roman Wrestling? Do you like this wrestling? Too?

Speaker 8 (01:24:17):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
Didn't say no, Mike? Go ahead. You're on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Good afternoon, Mike, and.

Speaker 8 (01:24:26):
After whom Oh you got me intrigued with this dish
you're talking about making? Is the wife of this cook.

Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
My wife.

Speaker 4 (01:24:32):
My wife and I are both unbelievable cooks. Now, we
have our specialties, So I have things that I make
that I'm awesome at. My wife makes the greatest macaroni
and cheese on the planet. This has been tested by
people in the know, and she's a terrific baker. She
also makes a garlic chicken dish that is unparalleled. And
then there are things that I make. But I had

(01:24:53):
this pasta dish when I was on vacation, and I
had it at this restaurant the last night we were there.
It's the greatest pasta dive I've ever had. I have
spent two weeks trying to like figure out, Okay, what
did they put in it? And after all this deliberation,
I think I've arrived at a conclusion as to what
the ingredients are. I've got them ready to go, and

(01:25:14):
tonight I will prepare this pasta dish. I have never
looked forward to a meal more, but I've never been
more scared to screw something up.

Speaker 8 (01:25:21):
When we we look forward to a full report.

Speaker 4 (01:25:23):
Low, I'm sure everybody's really interested in how my cooking
goes tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
Mike, what else is going on.

Speaker 8 (01:25:29):
Well, your scrambled eggs that you turned me onto with
the daisy was awesome. Brother, Yep, I know, I really was.

Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
I'm I'm an I am you know in my life,
I'm an underrated culinary artist.

Speaker 8 (01:25:43):
Do you watch Triple B with Guy Pierre Err a
little bit?

Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:25:48):
Yeah, that's always you can learn a lot. Yeah, Trent Brown,
It's kind of like Trent Brown's demeanor. A couple of reasons.
I've now dugged in the Snoop Dogg of the Bengals. Okay,
he's still, he's going.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
He's very chill.

Speaker 8 (01:26:01):
I like his steadiness. I like his I think that's
what it displayed. It displays steadiness, confidence and what he's
done over the years. And I have total confidence in it.
So I think he'll be fun.

Speaker 4 (01:26:15):
Yeah. I think that's one way of looking at it
and not an unfair way of looking at it.

Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
And there is a part of me that does want
to defer to his track record.

Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
And I said before any athlete, you know, athletes know
their bodies, and athletes, especially ones who are experienced, know
what they need to do to get ready. In any business,
there's no one way to do it right there's no
one way to prepare for a talk show. We constantly
prove that there's a lot of bad ways to prepare
for a talk show, but there's no one way to
do it. At the end of the day, all we're
asking Trump Brown to do is answer the bell in

(01:26:43):
some way, shape or form when the season begins. But
the messaging I think you have to acknowledge does sort
of fly in the face of what the other messaging
has been from the Bengals, and that stood out to me.

Speaker 3 (01:26:54):
Again.

Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
I'm not saying tramp Brown's a bad guy. I'm certainly
not saying he's a bad player. I'm not discounting his
ability to help this team this year, but just relative
to the overall theme of the off season and the
summer so far, what he said yesterday left me a
little underwhelmed.

Speaker 8 (01:27:13):
Yeah, I could go that got under your skin a
little bit. Hey, I have the fortune of trying to
go to the Phil Dodgers games and I really don't
feel like it, but I don't want to miss it,
and one of my buddies gonna a couple of my
buddies are gonna take me because it's a Kershaw and
Sanchez tonight, so you know.

Speaker 3 (01:27:35):
I was watching. I watched that.

Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
First of all, I hope you're able to make it,
and I hope you feel okay and if you go,
have a great time. I watched that game last night.
The two leadoff batters were Shohey O Tani and Kyle Schwarber,
and I said out loud to my wife, who could
not have cared less. You know, twenty years ago you
would have said these are the two leadoff hitters. The

(01:27:58):
response would have been, there's no way, and yet they are,
and both they're good lead off hitters.

Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
So I have a couple of first place teams.

Speaker 4 (01:28:05):
The Phillies recently broke their six game losing streak, Dodgers
coming off their first losing month in six years.

Speaker 3 (01:28:11):
I hope you're able to go, Mike.

Speaker 8 (01:28:14):
Yeah, I really am too. Hey, the most exciting part
of the Olympics to me has been the surfing. The
only problem is some of the waves have been inconsistent.
And it's in Tahiti. We know why. It's a French
colony still basically, but one of the ladies I know
here that lives next down there's data point where I
live when I'm at home and then there's San Clementi

(01:28:37):
and Carolyn Marx won the short forard gold medal last
yesterday for the United States, and I know her dad
real well, and she's a nice girl and she pulled
that bad boy off. And today they had the final.
No Americans in it, but the two guys that won.
The one guy was native to Tahiti, so that was

(01:28:57):
pretty cool that he won. But you had to watch
it on YouTube because NBC, I guess realizes that most
people are, well, that.

Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Sounds really awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:29:05):
I think the most exciting Olympic sport that I have
watched so far is short track cycling.

Speaker 3 (01:29:11):
Have you watched this?

Speaker 8 (01:29:13):
I haven't seen it.

Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
How are there not more injuries in this sport? They
they basically are in like a gymnasium with an oval,
and they go like a thousand miles an hour in groups,
and it looks like danger is lurking every second, and
yet these these men and women still figure out a
way to go around the oval a bunch of different times.
I haven't seen anything in the Olympics that look like that.

(01:29:34):
Looks like it invites disaster more than I think. That's
what it's called short track cycling. I was watching it
this morning. I'm I'm now a fan. I'm gonna become
a short track cycling officionado.

Speaker 8 (01:29:49):
That's cool, okay, So I'll let you go, and you
gotta go. These Pennant races are getting exciting. So it's fun, fun.

Speaker 3 (01:29:56):
It is, Mike, Thank you. I hope you get to
go to the ball game tonight.

Speaker 8 (01:30:00):
Thanks.

Speaker 4 (01:30:00):
So it's twenty nine away from six o'clock five one, three, seven,
four nine, fifteen thirty and eight sixty six, seven oh
two three seven seven six. We'll update our poll question.
But by the way, poll questions are on x slash Twitter.

Speaker 3 (01:30:16):
Call it whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
I don't care.

Speaker 4 (01:30:18):
I made a mistake on social media today. I'm not
going to apologize because I don't think I have to,
but I but I made a mistake and uh I'll
outline it coming up plus sports headlines and more and
the Scott Saderfield Audio is the Bearcats get set to
uh put on the pads tonight on ESPN fifteen thirty

Bengal's not practicing today, not because are lazy, but because

(01:31:01):
well the rules say they get days off, they do
practice tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:31:04):
Tomorrow's practice is open to the public.

Speaker 4 (01:31:07):
Tony Pike will be there for us, but also doing
his show noon to three since he three sixty from
Bengals training camp at the venue originally known as Paul
Brown Stadium. One note, really quick, they're moving Thursday's workout
inside the stadium. The original plan, I guess, was for
that to be open to the public. That is no
longer the case. So bummer if you had plans to

(01:31:27):
go watch in practice. They're adding a public workout on
the nineteenth, which is a week from Monday.

Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
That's August nineteenth, thirty. Go don't forget.

Speaker 4 (01:31:36):
Bengals Bucks Live on ESPN fifteen thirty kickoff on Saturday
evening at seven o'clock. Reds and Marlins Tonight, second of four. Nicolodolo,
Max Meyer. Nicolodolo has to start pitching better. I thought
he was really good in that Friday night game against
the Tampa Bay Rays. Beyond that, his the five or
six starts sandwiching that start, including his last not good.

(01:32:00):
Hopefully tonight's better six forty this evening seven hundred. WYLW.
Madewell Restoration brings us the lineup. India is at second,
Ellis at short, Steers and left, Friedol and center. Stevenson catching.
Candelario is dhing Ty franc at first base, Jake Frelian
right no Lve Martes playing third base. Former Red Tucker

(01:32:20):
Barnhart is now current Reds minor leaguer Tucker Barnhart. He
signs a minor league contract with the Red spent time
earlier this season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Florence Yawl's on
the road against Washington in the Summer Olympics. Congratulations to
University of Cincinnati track and field standout Annette at Chakawuke.

(01:32:44):
She takes the silver medal in the hammer throw. The
US women's national soccer team beats Germany one nothing in
their semi final match on a goal in the ninety
fifth minute. As a quick aside, that's soccer game last night.
Do what you want with its meaning. I've seen some

(01:33:05):
pretty awesome comebacks in sports, I've seen better comebacks and
last nights last night's was still really awesome to watch
and funny to throw egg in the face of the
people who run the social media account for NYCFC. The
US will advance to play Brazil, who knocked off Spain
for two US men's basketball one twenty two to eighty

(01:33:26):
seven winners over Brazil in their quarterfinal matchup. The US
men will advance to the semifinal round to take on
Serbia on Thursday afternoon. I think that game is also
while we're on the air on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Oh one.

Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
Other Reds note, According to the Athletic the Reds and
Braves are going to play a baseball game next year
at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, and the
expected attendance is going to be like one hundred and
forty six thousand people. This brings us to our poll questions,
which come your way thanks to United Heartland Insurance. So
matter your insurance needs, United Heartland Insurance can help home, auto, boat, motorcycle, business,

(01:34:08):
residential life three offices in the greater Cincinnati area. Go
to uhi ats dot com. Question number one ballgame at
a car racing track? Are you in fifty nine percent
say yes? Baseball's done a really good job with these
these one off events over the last couple of years.
There's something unique about this. I've never been to the

(01:34:32):
Bristol Motor Speedway. Don't know that I'll go for a
car race, So yes, I say yes, sign me up
for baseball at a car racing track. Other question is
this So there was some information leagued about the NCAA's
look into the Michigan sign stealing scandal, and it doesn't

(01:34:57):
make Michigan look very good. Jim Harball is obviously no
longer the coach, and so if he cheated, he has
basically gotten away with it because now he's with the
LA Chargers, where his biggest concern is getting Justin Herbert healthy.
Jim Harball yesterday said quote, I did not participate, was
not aware nor complicit in those said allegations. A. Are

(01:35:21):
you buying it? B Are you not buying it? Or
C Do you buy that? He might just be dumb
enough to be neither aware or complicit, which is our
buddy Austin Elmore's hypothesis, and as terrific of a football
coach as Jim Harball as then he is. I mean,
I say what you want about he won a national
title at Michigan revived that program. He coached in a

(01:35:42):
Super Bowl with the forty nine ers. He wanted Sanford,
not Sanford. He wanted Stanford, He wanted san Die. He's
a good football coach, and my guess is he has
a certain level of success with the Chargers, and I
hope they I hope they're better against the Chiefs this year.
But I also feel like he's kind of real world
dumb enough to actually not be aware vote now at

(01:36:05):
Mullegar Thanks to United Heartland Insurance, the UC football team
practices tonight under the lights at Camp higher Ground Tomorrow.
On the show, It's our annual conversation with a great
Phil Steele. I mentioned my vacation. Now, I mentioned the
pasta dish I had on vacation. Every year I do

(01:36:26):
the same thing. I get the Phil Steele College Football
Annual and I devour it during vacation. And so now
I can't wait to talk to Phil tomorrow. I think
that's gonna happen in the early in the three o'clock hour.
I don't know if Phil is going to be paying
attention to UC football practice tonight, but Scott Saderfield will

(01:36:47):
because he's the coach. Here is the head coach of
the Bearcats, chatting a little bit with the media after
yesterday's workout at Higher Ground.

Speaker 3 (01:36:56):
It's awesome, man.

Speaker 11 (01:36:56):
I mean it's one of the most unique training camps
I've all of college football. And you know, to be
able to come out of here and you escape all distractions,
you got the guys, you know, it was great, you know,
coming out here, jumping on the buses and the guys
seeing we know, we got a lot of new players,
so this is the first time they get off the
bus and they get to see it and a lot
of smiles, you know, when they got off the bus

(01:37:16):
to come in and eat the first meal. Now you know,
this practice, this heat out here has been good for
him and you know, maybe not smiling as much now,
but it's but it's awesome that people treat us so
great out here. You got so much space, meeting space
and and and the fields now we got a new
turf field back behind us that we just just did
this all season.

Speaker 3 (01:37:32):
So it's it's outstanding.

Speaker 6 (01:37:34):
You can't ask for anything better. It's the funniest reaction
player and getting off the bus.

Speaker 11 (01:37:38):
You know, I don't know, I think I think mainly
just some facial express is that, you know, and some
of these city guys come out here and all they
see is trees and uh and nobody else. You know,
it's just kind of us and isolation and and all
that and you know, but it But I but I,
but I do think they've embraced it because they know
while we're out here, and so this this group has
come out of here embraced the you know, the opportunity

(01:38:00):
get to know their teammates better, to be connected and
also to get better. I mean, I think they know
what it's all about, and I think they've really embraced
and that's what I'm proud of.

Speaker 6 (01:38:08):
Did you do this anywhere else?

Speaker 11 (01:38:09):
I'm a back last year, But no, I don't know
hardly any of anybody doing this really quite honestly, you know,
I think maybe I remember when I was growing up,
the NFL used to go to different training camps in
different spots, you know, and I think a lot of
that's stopped as well, you know, so when I got here,
you know, with that's his this is his baby.

Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
He loves it.

Speaker 11 (01:38:28):
He's been doing it for I think all of this,
the twenty six year, all twenty six years, so.

Speaker 3 (01:38:32):
He's telling us all about it. So I feel way
more comfortable this year being out here.

Speaker 11 (01:38:36):
You know, because the second year and you know what
to expect, you know what it's all about, and yeah,
it's been great. Does it change your approach any year too,
because you didn't know what to expect last year?

Speaker 6 (01:38:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:38:45):
I think so.

Speaker 11 (01:38:46):
I think as we plan, as we you know, we
plan our meetings, as we plan our lists and how
when we practice and all that, I think it certainly
you get a better observation of what we need to do.
You know, we are we Last year we didn't have
a night practice, But tomorrow night we're gonna be at night.
I think that'll be it'll be neat, So be under
the lights here and get a good first tackling practice
as well, so that'll be good.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (01:39:06):
Scott Saderfield yesterday with the UC football team pivoting to
a higher ground after a few early workouts in Nippert
Stadium last week. Under the lights tonight and the higher ground.
Obviously those workouts are are not open to the public.

Speaker 6 (01:39:20):
It is.

Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
It's like walking into a time machine when you go
and if if you.

Speaker 4 (01:39:27):
If you kind of like to I don't know strip
football practice down to its its barest essentials. It's it
is really cool. I mentioned I by the way I
or poll questions. I made a social media mistake. I
I mistakenly tweeted something that was meant to be funny
or lighthearted or ignored. And I'm not talking about the

(01:39:50):
guy who doesn't think men should wear hats.

Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
I'm talking about.

Speaker 4 (01:39:54):
The weird woman who works for X who kind of
reminds me of like a fifth grade or teacher who's
tired of like the boys in her class acting out.
And I'm very familiar with that type of teacher because well,
the kind of student that I was, I I invited
some of the wrong people into my mentions, which those

(01:40:18):
folks are the most humorless of the humorless. So my
my apologies. Tony Pike is not humorless. He's going to
join us for a training camp update, even though there's
no training camp today. Next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station, What if you.

Speaker 3 (01:40:35):
Could face every day with comor.

Speaker 2 (01:40:38):
This is a training camp report brought to you by
Skylight Chili.

Speaker 6 (01:40:42):
Feeling good.

Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
It's Skylight Time on ESPN fifteen thirty The official home
of the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (01:40:51):
No practice for the Bengals today, but we do not
let that deter us from giving you the latest, most
in depth coverage of Bengals training camp live every hour.

Speaker 3 (01:40:59):
Tone Pike is with me.

Speaker 4 (01:41:01):
He'll be broadcasting since he three sixty tomorrow from Bengals
training camp today. You're with me here in studio. No
practice today. In your opinion, there are three battles that
between now and the end of the preseason, or between
now and the end of training camp, are most worth
paying attention to. Let's run through all three, starting with
number one. Yeah, I think number one is the corner position.

(01:41:24):
I think this is probably the most wrapped up battle
to this point, DJ Turner and Dox Hill. And I
don't know that DJ Turner has sprinted to take the
spot as Dax Hill has just kind of let it
fall away. Dax Hill just hasn't had a great camp
to this point. I think running back, I'm sorry, I
think corner number two. I think wide receiver number three

(01:41:45):
is still up in the air.

Speaker 9 (01:41:47):
That's a good battle, it is, and it feels like
each of them possess really good qualities. But it's what
the Bengals need most out of wide receiver three. For instance,
andre Yoshi Vash has kind of been that solid piece
in the slot now. The only problem there is he's
not run a ton of slot, and in slot receiving
you need to have awareness of what the protection is

(01:42:07):
when you're hot, when you need to make adjustments to
your route. That's a lot to undertake in an offseason
and fill into that role. Jermaine Burton is electric a
lot of upside, but he's still a rookie, so the
knowledgist isn't there. Trent Irwin doesn't have the high end flash,
but he's by far the most consistent, right He's reliable.
He's reliable, So it's going to come down to what

(01:42:28):
the Bengals want. And it's another one of those ripple
effects because the longer Jamar Chase isn't practicing, the more
Jermaine Burton is getting those reps and not getting the
slot rep. So it feels like Yoshi Vash and Trent
Nerwin right now. Charlie Jones has made a really good
push light in camp. I still think that that battle
is up in the air, and then the right tackle battle. Look,

(01:42:49):
Trent Brown went through individual stuff yesterday. But you can
look at Trent Brown and I know he's huge, and
he said it himself yesterday. He's not ready Yeah physically Yeah,
how long does that look like? And if a Mario
Smims continues to improve, what does that look like? Not
what I wanted to hear from Trent Brown yesterday, No,
not a not a resounding confident just out I got
a month. I'll be ready, like, not what you want

(01:43:10):
to hear. And the other one. And I think it's
worth noting. I think running back is a battle and
who's going to start. I just don't have it as
a huge battle because I think regardless of who starts,
the carries are going to be like fifty to fifty
or fifty two forty eight.

Speaker 6 (01:43:21):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:43:21):
I feel like it's just a label for running back
to start. Yeah, but these other positions obviously carry a
little bit more wa.

Speaker 4 (01:43:27):
The Mems thing for me is intriguing because I feel
like his long term.

Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
Upside is really really hot.

Speaker 4 (01:43:33):
Sure, and so to me, if he's on the field
week one, that means they tap into that upside even earlier.
Now there's, as you know, a stark difference between showing
what he has shown in practice and doing what he
needs to do in games starting on Saturday night. But
like there are most camp battles, let the best man
win this one. I'm rooting for Marius Mims just because

(01:43:55):
if he wins it, I feel like then it's even
sooner We're going to tap into what feels like a
limitless amount of potential the only night.

Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
If he wins it.

Speaker 9 (01:44:02):
What does Trent Brown like, Is there the work ethic
to be like I'm going to be the best backup available,
or if he's called upon, is we don't really know
what we're getting because there are still things. So for instance,
Marius Mems yesterday, I've talked about the athleticism he just
on that series they were running where they were backed
up and they needed to get out of the two
or three yard the shadow of the goal line. He

(01:44:24):
just got beat on a speed rush by Miles Murphy.
It would have been a sack, would have been a safety.
There are still instances from a guy who hasn't played
a ton. You play at the college level and then
all of a sudden, what now you're playing in the NFL.
Everyone talks about the speed. Is he adjusted yet to
the speed? And no knock to Miles Murphy. That's not
Trey Hendrickson, it's not Sam Hubbard, And if you go

(01:44:44):
up and down the schedule, it's not some of these
defensive ends and edge rushers that the Bengals are going
to be facing early in the season. So are you
willing to go through those growing pains of a guy
that's got to get adjusted to the speed and the
technique and sacrifice what could be some pressure on Joe Burrow?

Speaker 4 (01:45:02):
Come back to the Dax Hill thing, because by all accounts,
obviously including yours, DJ Turner has been better. But it's
more of an indictment against Dax Hill. So let's say
he's in the game, in a game that counts. Is
he so bad that the other team is gonna go
screw it? We're throwing right at him?

Speaker 9 (01:45:20):
I would right now. And again it's the ripple effect
of no Jamar Chase. He's getting beat and again I'm
not not Trent Nerdwin, Charlie Jones, Yoshi. I mean he's
getting beat by three, four or five receivers for other teams.
And again you're gonna be going against different I wonder
we kicked the rock out of the tire on this
a little bit last week. Is there any conversation with

(01:45:42):
some of the younger players to get more opportunities of
Dax Hill maybe moving to the nickel or you know,
behind Mike Hilton in that role. Would there be any
conversation of moving him back to safety behind a Von Bell?
I mean, there's just I don't know what the endgame
is if he doesn't improve from a corners point for
the rest.

Speaker 3 (01:46:00):
Of cant just not trending in the right direction.

Speaker 9 (01:46:02):
It's not and you know, I don't know if it
ever was a confident Yes, this is gonna work, but
you thought man athleticism, yeah, skill set, the upside is there.
I can make sense of the move now. Safety is
a pretty done deal. Ginostone and von Bell have been fantastic.
Jordan Battle is a is a suitable backup. I don't

(01:46:24):
know what the role is for Dax Hill on this
defense right now.

Speaker 4 (01:46:28):
Yeah, it's it's it's fair to wonder. We're not gonna
wonder where Tony Pike is going to be tomorrow. See
what I did there. He'll be at Bengals training camp
noon to three since E three sixty then back with
us live from practice three forty five, four forty five,
and five forty five. We hope you're there for that.
