Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Bengals travel to Texas to take on Houston in
a Lone Star showdown. Which raises an important question. What
style of chili do I prefer? Hmm, I'm not sure,
but they both make me gassy. Can the orange and
black handle Houston? Or will the Texans defend their home turf?

(00:21):
Coverage begins Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Stream for free
on the new and improved iHeartRadio app. Or on ESPN 1530,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals. It's the Bengals
and Texans.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yep, it will be Sunday at 1 live on ESPN 1530.
And you don't need me to tell you that because
you just heard the promo. Dan Klaskens joins us later
on this hour to help fantasy football owners as we
get set for week two, which begins tonight with fun
game Lions and Bills games.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Dan will join us at 445. Plus, Mr.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Cincinnati Cyclone, he just retired. He hung up the skates
just in five. Friend of the show. By the way,
speaking of pucks, I've made Blue Jackets fans. I'm not
telling folks not to root for them.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
You do whatever you want.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I'm just, I'm not rooting for a team that doesn't
have a dedicated audio broadcast.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
And I'm sorry. It's the radio guy in me.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
It's the fan who believes that a team should do
right by their consumers. If I have to explain why
television on radio doesn't work, then chances are I'm not
going to win you over to my side, so I'm
not going to bother. But the Blue Jackets, the Cyclones
are always welcome. The Cyclones have, it's on the internet,

(01:39):
but it's an audio broadcast. Rudy Hodgson is effectively the
radio guy. He's the play-by-play guy. Love the Cyclones. Cyclones
always welcome Blue Jackets.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
Banned.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
And I'm looking for a new hockey team. This guy
is the best. Sports Talk Radio host for years in Houston.
He's now on the Texan Squad Show, part of the
Locked On Network.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
He's Stan the Sportsman. Stan Norfleet is with us.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Every time the Bengals play the Texans, we get Stan
on with us because he is terrific or terrific.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
And he's with us now. 30,000-foot view. Texans lose to
the Buffalo Bills. What happened?

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Josh Allen is obviously one of the top two players
in this league. And I believe this defense kind of
relaxed on their laurels a little bit.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
Maybe, you know, reading the press clip is a little bit. And,
you know, it's human nature to get complacent.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
And Josh Allen with his new toy and wide receiver
DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid, who did not play last
year versus the Texans when this defense sacked Josh Allen
eight times last You combine that with some symmetry with
Joe Brady and his first game as a head coach
for the Bills and the symmetry he has as the

(02:54):
previous offensive coordinator. And of course, they still have James Cook,
who led the league in rushing last year.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
And the Texans were on their heels.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Now, as you saw across the league, even in your
game versus Tampa, you know, it tied the all time,
at least since the merger scoring output since week one.
So I believe some of that can be attributed to
the lack of defenses playing in the preseason and kind
of need that ramp up period. But let me be clear.
The Texans would have still won that game, even with

(03:23):
the two Stroud fumbles. had they been playing some other
people not named Josh Allen. He's a different guy. You
guys have seen him before. You know what a talent
he is.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
No, no question.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
So do we expect at home, again, a desperate Texans team?
What's the mindset going into week two?

Speaker 4 (03:42):
That's a good way to phrase it. Is this team desperate?
I think the fan base would probably say they're not.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
I think the real fan base.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
are a little apprehensive of this week and have some
anxiety for a few reasons. Number one, yes, CJ had
the two fumbles. Russo ended the game beating Trent Brown
off the right side, and that was the ball game
the other day. And so here we go talking about
CJ and the fumbles.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
Now, I only put one of those fumbles on CJ.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
That could have happened to anybody in the pocket, you know,
from a blindside standpoint.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
The other thing is we now deal with our Pro
Bowl wide receiver, Nico Collins. He's got a hamstring.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
He missed five games in 2024 with hamstring and has
missed games each of his seasons since coming to Houston.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
I believe that was 2022, 2021, 2022, somewhere in there.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
All right, so now we got Andre Johnson, he's playing
mind games. Our resident Hall of Famer here in Houston
could play some wide receiver during his day, obviously. He
says he doesn't love CJ Stroud's body language.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Now, I agree with Dre.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
I don't love Stroud's body language all the time either.
I just don't know that this is the time to
make that comment and to.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
Make it so public.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
It just adds another layer of distraction to this whole deal.
Then you got my secondary, Reed Blankenship comes over from
Philadelphia to be a starting strong safety, if you will.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
And he didn't play well the other night.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Derek Stingley, our all-pro corner, he gets beat by Dolph Kinkade.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
And DJ Moore had.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
His field, both of those guys going over 100 yards
for the Bills. So we're looking at a situation now, Mo,
where this team.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Could go down to 0-2. And I made this comment,
you know me, I'm a straight shooter.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
I don't hold back just because I cover the team.
Joe Burrow, Higgs, obviously Chase, Yoshi, you got Gaticki who
got in the end zone on Sunday. You got Chase
Brown that's running the ball. I'm like, there's more than
enough firepower to come in here.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
And do the exact same thing to Buffalo.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
So yeah, I would say we are certainly not comfortable.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
It sounds like it.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
So the CJ Stroud body language thing, is that just
about last week or has that been a reoccurring issue?

Speaker 5 (06:07):
No, he has had moments that has been bad. And
he has admitted as such.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
At Kansas City 2024, Tank Dale goes down some friendly fire,
collides in the end zone with a teammate, shuttle wide
receiver Jared Wayne, bust his.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Knee, all the you know what.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
And CJ, I mean, CJ had to be consoled multiple times.
You know, he can get pouty. He can get a
little woe is me. And so Andre voiced that. It
wasn't as much about Sunday. Even after the first fumble,
CJ got right back in the saddle, scrambled for, I believe, 15,
20 yards, picked up a first down, beat his chest

(06:44):
to the crowd, playing to the crowd, let him.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Know that he wasn't going back down.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
And he went on to play a really good game,
passing rating about a buck 08. So CJ Stroud was
fine in between the fumbles to start the game and
to end the game. But when Andre, a man that
doesn't speak a lot he's a man of very few
words when andre johnson is on a podcast with uh
houston rapper look kiki the legend that he is as
well as kendrick perkins the former nba and you see

(07:08):
him on your four-letter network there when they're talking you
know the legends podcast when andre talks now people are
going to listen so it caught many of us by
surprise including demico ryan's who acts like he didn't know
the comments made by dre i find that very hard
to believe We will see as CJ is here fighting
for a contract extension, given that he's eligible as the

(07:30):
number two overall pick in 23 and this being his
fourth season. We'll see if he can play his way
into some money. They've offered him a contract. And we
believe in the 50 what's been reported in the 50
plus million dollar range. I think he's got that Dak
Prescott 60 something in his sights. I just don't want
anything affecting my quarterback psyche. We'll find out on Sunday

(07:52):
about his mental fortitude.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
You know, CJ Stroud is a rookie. I kind of
felt like, all right, this guy's on the verge of
being a dude. And you see him every week. So
you've watched every snap. But there's just been... It's just
been something to be desired, I think. And I know, like,
recency bias, the last time we watched him in the
postseason last year, he was, needless to say, not good. So, like,
where are you with what they should do with him?

(08:15):
Is he worth investing in to the degree that he hopes?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
I told Nick Casario and through various media outlets in
the city, they absolutely should pay him. Now, I'm a
little peeved because....

Speaker 3 (08:29):
What's my man?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Elon Musk won't get my x.com unhacked. So I'm a
little peeved so I can't get on my social. I'm
still on Instagram and Facebook. But nonetheless, we can put
somebody on the moon, but we can't unhack me.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
This is crazy.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Nonetheless, I've told anybody that can listen and will listen to.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
An old man talk some ball. Play the quarterback. C.J.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Stroud is three and three in the postseason. He's had
more playoff success than Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence,
and I could continue Tua. We know Kyler, both Tua
and Kyler on different teams now. So when you start
going down that list of guys that got their money
after their third year, C.J. Stroud, who owns the franchise

(09:10):
record right now for playoff wins.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Although.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Last season didn't conclude the way we wanted it to.
CJ's resume, when you put that up, again, he hasn't
been able to repeat what has taken place coming off
that 2023 season. But I challenge everybody, since CJ has
been here over those three seasons coming into this season,
They've had the worst O-line play by all the metrics,
and they've had one of the worst running games on

(09:35):
all the metrics. CJ doesn't have Higgins and Chase. We
appreciate you sending us Joe Mixon for a year, and
then out the blue, Mixon has a foot injury, and
we don't know, we can't find him in the building.
We haven't seen Joe Mixon since. So it's just, now
we're on our second, hear me clearly. Nick Cayley, the
current offensive coordinator who came in last year, This is

(09:58):
CJ's second first-time play caller. Who does that? Burrow hasn't
had to deal with that. Mahomes isn't dealing with that.
Josh Allen isn't dealing with that. Lamar even isn't dealing
with that. These other guys have play callers and weapons
and CJ is just trying to make chicken out of

(10:19):
you know what.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
So it's been real interesting.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
How CJ is being evaluated and you and I both
know how easily these narratives can shift.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
In the National Football League.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
So I cheer for the kid, and I think they
should pay him because it's one less thing that I
want my quarterback worrying about. I just want my quarterback
to stay healthy and go play good ball. You're not
worried about him off the field. You're not worried about
his work ethic. He's not a kid that's out of shape.
He's a team captain again for the fourth year in
a row. And when you look at how he has
performed compared to his contemporaries, he should be compensated in the.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
$ 55- plus million range. And now you got these young guys.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Here comes Caleb Williams. Here comes Drake May, Bo Nix,
Jay Daniels. Lamar Jackson wants more money. Now that Baker
got his $ 55 million a year, the price of doing
business at the position is going up. And I think
Nick Casario, our general manager, they're playing a dangerous game
of chicken with David Mogeta, who also represents some other
guys that have gotten their money, a la Deshaun Watson

(11:20):
and others.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yeah, we know him well here in Cincinnati. Stan, you
are the absolute best. Always awesome to have you, man.
I can't thank you enough. Hope we can do it
again sometime soon.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
Appreciate it, Mo. Thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
And again, appreciate to see you in Cincinnati for hosting
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Yeah, no question. That was fun.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Stan Norfleet, Locked On Texans, the longtime, longtime Sports Talk
radio host in Houston and for my money. if you
run a sports talk radio station in that part of
the country, you should make Stan a part of your
everyday life. Could we just get Stan to talk about
whoever the Bengals opponent is every single week?

Speaker 5 (11:56):
Man.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
There's just like, there's something like when Stan, I don't
remember the first time we had him on. But I just,
I got so excited when, you know, the schedule came out.
We knew they were playing the Texans. I'm like, cool,
week two, we're calling Stan. There's just something about hearing
him talk ball that makes me smile. Stan Norfleet, Stan
the sportsman, his Twitter account got hacked. So he's not

(12:18):
on Twitter right now, but he's on Instagram and Facebook,
and I think he has a MySpace page and whatever.
Stan Norfleet, Stan the Sportsman, Houston legend. He is the
absolute best.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Can we do have him on when the Knicks play
the Rockets?

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Sure, why not?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Reds play the Astros in 2027, or FC Cincinnati plays
the Houston Dynamo.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Can we call him back and see if he wants
to talk about that game?

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Let's do some Knicks Rockets with Stan Norfleet, Stan the Sportsman.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Do they still have the Houston Arrows? Do they play
the Cyclones at all? Justin Vive will know. He joins
us in a few minutes.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
18 minutes after 4 o'clock, Dan Klaskens and Brenneman and
Jones on baseball all coming up this hour. I got
to come up with a poll question. Reds lost to
the Dodgers 8-2 today at GABP. 18 after 4. This
is ESPN 1530 Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Cincinnati's ESPN 1530. Traffic.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Ruiz once again
