Speaker 1 (00:00):
One of the very best sports talk radio show hosts
in the country is a guy by the name of
Mark Yarborough who was on the Afternoon Rush on seven
point thirty the game in Charlotte. I love listening to
this guy Bengals Panthers, so we got him on. You
did a topic I think last week, maybe the week before,
where you and your partners asked, are the Carolina Panthers
the NFL's most irrelevant team?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
How did that go over? I my co hosts.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Didn't think they were the most irrelevant because people were
actually talking about him with the Bryce Young situation. I
still thought they were irrelevant. But two to what Bobby Now,
my co host, said, yeah, that they were being talked about.
So I guess at least last week maybe they weren't irrelevant.
But up until last week, it sure felt like they
(00:51):
were the most irrelevant team in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
So when you say that, is that irrelevant in the area,
is that irrelevant nationally?
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Where does that come? No? No, not, no, not in necessary.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Obviously, people good or bad they talk about the Panthers.
I was looking more from a national landscape that they
are not, you know, not, they're not block a not block,
d C, D on A, on a, you know, on
any type of talk show nationally, but no around here,
people obviously are are interested in what's going on, good.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Or bad, because I do know what it's like when
the Bengals are irrelevant here and uh, the fear of
things keep going the way they have been. We'll be uh,
we'll be there, and I'll be doing the same topic
on a local basis here in November. Why has the
Bryce Young thing not worked?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
You know a lot of people actually last week nationally
wanted to blame the Panther organization, and I, you know,
I would say this last year, Bryce was not particularly
set up well to succeed.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
You had, uh, you know, Frank Reich was the coach.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
He was supposed to be a quarterback guru, much like
we're hearing with Dave Canallas.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Uh and you.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Know, yeah, Frank Wright started the year calling out plays
and then they decided to move the play calling over
to Thomas Brown, offensive coordinator, and then Frank Wright took
back the play calling and it was a yo. Yo.
The offensive line was a mess. You know all that,
It's true, But in the end, MO, Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Just did not play good football.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Look He started sixteen of the seventeen game last year
and then started the first two games this year, and
we all have eyes. We all watched and if it
was the weird thing is all off season we talked
about he can't possibly do anything but.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Get better, right right, right? No, mo, no, wrong, he
doesn't have to get better.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
He actually looked worse in the first two games this
year than he did last year. I mean, there were
just no signs that he was progressing and it was
painful to watch. So there's a lot of re but
the bottom line is Bryce Young did not play good
enough football to remain a starter in the National Football League.
Had he been allowed to continue to start, David Allis
(03:10):
was going to lose this football team.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
So you know, a lot has obviously happened since they
took him. But when they did take him, was there
a sense, all right, this is the guy we won
Or were people on board with Stroud before he ever
threw a pass in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
No, I tell you, Bobby, one of my co hosts
of myself on the show last year, we both wanted
c J.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Stroud.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
We thought that was the better pick. I think the
consensus around here was C. J.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Stroud. I think there were people in that building that
wanted c. J. Stroud.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Unfortunately, the man who runs the team that signs the checks,
that brings music to Charlotte, if you listen to him,
David Tepper, he wanted Bryce Young. And guess what they
took Bryce Young? And they when they made the trade
up to take up they were originally going to move
up to three. David Tepper's question was, well, forget, but
(04:00):
bet far, let's just move.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
All the way up to number one. And once they did, it.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Became pretty apparent that Bryce Young was David Tepper's guy.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
So guess what they took, David. They took Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
So his benching in favor of Andy Dalton. If you
have to turn the team over to somebody we know firsthand,
you could do a lot worse. I've read people say, well,
Bryce is in effective, he's effectively in time out. And
I've seen people say like, it's done, They've reached the
point of no return, it's time to figure out who's next.
In reality, where are they with him?
Speaker 3 (04:32):
We all believe that Bryce Young is done here. We
I just I don't see anyway particularly I'm not gonna
say Andy's gonna go out there and play like you
did last week every week, because you know this better
than anybody, that there's gonna be weeks where Andy Dalton
shows you why he's been a backup for the last
several years. But even with that said, I don't know
(04:52):
he's playing He's gonna play.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Better than Bryce.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
I just don't know how you go into that locker
room and tell those guys, Okay, we're gonna go back
to Young here. I think again, you're gonna You're gonna
lose a lot of the locker room if that happens.
But it just feels like that that Bryce's days as
a starter here are done. They've been determined. I'm not
saying the guy's career is over. He baby goes somewhere else,
(05:17):
finds a fresh start. And this is all part of
the great movie that has made one day about Bryce's
great career in the NFL. But for right now, I
don't see it, barring an injury. Well, I don't see
any scenario where Bryce Young is the starting quarterback for
the Carolina Panthers again this year or any year.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Mark Yarbroad seven point thirty the game in Charlotte for
a few more minutes, so they hired Dave Canalison. He's
like the quarterback guru. So if you're hiring him, it's
because you think he can get the most out of
Bryce Young. If you're bailed on that experiment early, is
there a chance they bail on the head coach early.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Look, I would never put it past David Keeper to
get unhappy with the coaches situation. We saw that last year.
So I am not about here to pen on the tables.
And now there's no way Dave Dallis will get fired.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
And I think that, to me, that.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Had something to do with him making the switch at quarterback.
I think he saw from afar last year what happened
here and he said that's not gonna be me.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
I'm not getting I'm not gonna get caught up in that.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
I'm gonna at least go with the guy I think
it gives me the best chance to win. I don't
think Dave Canalis is going anywhere this year now next year,
I can't make any promises, and the hell, like I
just said, I'm not gonna make any promises this year
that he's not going anywhere. But it feels like he's
at least safe for this year. I will say this
Mode and you brought up, you know about him being
the quarterback guru and everything.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Big difference here.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
I think Bryce shawng obviously just in his second year
as Dave Canalis took over.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Here.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
You look at the other stops Seattle. You know, Gino
was a veteran, Baker Mayfield was a veteran. So the
people like to make those comparisons, but I think there
is a bit of a difference of his previous stops
and then what happened to he with Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Awesome stuff. Man, have a great show today. I do
appreciate the time. Enjoy the game on Sunday. Thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Well you got it, man. You gotta take care of there,
all right. There you go.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Marky Yarbro seven thirty the game in Charlotte. He's awesome.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
We're done.
