Speaker 1 (00:04):
And Window, Tony and Mo Football Show on ESPN fifteen
thirty percent of by Omega Wolf, Private Capital and O'Connor
at Chani and Levy. We are joined at the end
of day three. It don't exactly look like you've broke
in a sweat today, but no, great Chase Brown is
with us. Thank you for stopping by, Thanks for having me.
How would you describe today's practice.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
A mental day?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Man? Well, these walk three days, you got to take
advantage of it.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's a good day to rest your body. But also
when you get those slower reps where.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
You know, you kind of get to work through the
nuances of everything, you got to take advantage of that
and just be sharp.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I want you to take a conversation we were just
having off air on air because my guy Tony played
in the Prehistoric Hero where you had, you know, two
days and stuff and Joe Flacco even before that. So
when you hear those stories of what training camp practices
used to be, like, what comes to mind?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
It's it's funny you say that.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
So I was talking to Flacco the other day at
lunch and we were just talking about past experiences and
the two a day thing came up and.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, I heard it sucked. That's pretty much what I
got from that.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
But age he was talking about how like in a
single day, like you know, you could get about one
hundred and twenty plays off, so like there's so many
there's a ton of opportunities to like, you know, make
plays and get a hang of everything. And not saying
that we don't do that here, but it just got
to be different comparing it to what you went through.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
So the maturity though for a team on days like this,
because it's easy when you're not out here in pads
and helmets and it's a little bit of a walk through,
but there is, as you said, a lot of stuff
you can still get done on a day like this.
How much does a team's maturity shine through to say, okay,
it's lighter, Well let's take advantage of an opportunity to
still get.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Out there, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
I mean, we have a lot of experience on both
sides of the ball, so on days like this it
just at least offensively, it's you know, in your landmarks,
making sure you get lined.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Up properly, hearing the play call, and just being sharp.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Just there's not many days you get to run through
a practice that is at that tempo, so you know
when you're able to hear everything at once and you
know you just got to be sharp. It's like when
you get into a game, there's sometimes like you get
the look and you're like, okay, like I've seen this

(02:27):
on film twenty times, like I can recognize it. But
during camp sometimes I think it's just that's that's the
important thing, is just taking advantage of that because like
when it's slower, you get to just lock in on
everything and all the little small things.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
We watched every day of camp last year and we
watched you go through individual work at wide receiver catching passes.
Joe Burrow talked earlier in the week about you training
in the offseason almost at times like a wide receiver
and you come out last year and you're second on
the team in receptions. What's the next of your game
that you want to hone in on to take another
step for not only you personally, but to take this

(03:06):
offense to another level.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Well, I think with my skill set and you know
what I've worked on to the off season, I think
just expanding my road tree and becoming more of a
thread on different routes other than choice and certain inbreakers.
So that's why I look forward to build on and
as this offensive bags and as we see what this

(03:29):
twenty six season looks like, that's how I want to
take my game to.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
The next level.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
See a lot more Joe under center, which that's been
an evolving conversation. Is that a part of the offense
you look forward to tapping in a little bit more?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
I do.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
I mean statistically last year we were a more explosive
running offense well under center.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
But I think that's a common theme around the league.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
All of the most expensive, most explosive run offenses, they
were all under center pretty much. So I think we're
trying to build on that area. And you know, with
Joe's versatility and his ability to adapt, you know, I
think we're gonna be great out of this year.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
It's it's only a couple of days in the camp
and you haven't thrown the pants on yet.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
But the opposite side of the ball, how.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Different does that look from your standpoint as opposed to
what it was last year?

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, I mean they're playing fast man, and you know
with all those new faces like Decks and b Cook,
and you know, I could name about ten other guys,
but it's it's really impressive.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
To see how good they are right now, this early.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
It looks like they're meshing really well and they're they're
communicating really well, and that's always encouraging to see.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Since you arrived in the NFL, the offensive line has
often been sort of a work in progress, and then
at the end of the year last year that group
was really playing well. You bring all five guys back,
there's a lot of a lot of running backs who
would like to have that continuity. What is this camp
like for you knowing, like up front, we're probably as
good as we've.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Been since I've gotten Yeah, I mean, it's just really impressive.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Obviously, last year we didn't start off the way we
wanted to in the run game, like we were struggling,
and it was a group effort to get that going,
like just side conversations, extra meetings and just doing everything
we could to just figure out how to get that
thing going. And you know, we were able to be
a really effective run team for about you know, eleven

(05:28):
eleven weeks there or whatever. So and that's what we
look forward to building on man is just being that
explosive and efficient run team to keep this offense out
of the change.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
You talk about three down backs in the National Football League.
You possessed the running ability, the past catch ability, and
the past block, but talk about that third dynamic. I
used to hate blitz pick up drills. I absolutely hated it.
I despised it at practice when I saw it. For you,
how much pride goes into your ability to be a

(06:01):
past protector when called upon.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
As Wall and I take a lot of pride in that,
especially in an offense where we throw the ball as
much as we do, you've got to be able to protect.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I can remember early on in my.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Football my NFL career, at least, that was a struggle
for me. And I can vividly remember year two, I
had just missed up blis pick up into practice and
I went over to J Hill. I'm like, hey, man, like,
let's just let's meet after practice and take some extra
time and just get this pass pro stuff down. And

(06:32):
for me, I think the most effective way to become
better at pass protection is in the film room and
just prepping yourself with all the looks, and.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Then you're just able to play faster.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Like I can think of all the crazy looks that
we got last year, And I think the only reason
I was able to react so fast is because I
knew it was coming.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
I knew what was coming. Somebody dropped, I knew where
to put my eyes.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
So taking pride and just prepping and just being ready
for all the looks is something that.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You got to be able to do in this offense.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
You were doing it for us, so I want you
to do it for our listeners. Practice is over, your
work day is not over. So walk folks through like
what a normal begin to end day like during training
campus lines.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, at least for me, I started a little bit earlier.
It's not everybody, but I started a little bit earlier.
I like to gat in the sauna and just sit
there for a little bit, get my lift in, and
go through the script as early as possible, just so
I'm ready for practice. And then after practice, I mean
that's when your recovery starts. You get in the tubs,
you go see the trainers if you have to, and

(07:37):
then there's another install for that night, because we have
a walk through at night, So then you have meetings
for the install that's going in and then you go
walk it through. Then you go home and you wake
up and you do it again for thirty days.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
There's something like camps for me, A lot of it.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Not mad, Yeah, no doubt, no question.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
This has been awesome. You're my son's favorite. My six
year old played Madden last year for the first time,
created himself and wanted to be a running back. Okay,
at the end of last year, he came to me
and said, I need to switch positions because Chase Brown
needs to be back at running back. So you've already
made an impact on the on the youth in Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
He wasn't a ninety nine overall he is, Oh, he is.
He don't want to play running back anymore. He wanted
to get you back in the game. Okay, all right, well,
I don't know that. There's a bigger compliment.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
No, no, I want to play quarterback, he said, No,
I want to play quarterback, tight end.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, there you go. How many other positions you can
be here? No, can't thank you enough. Yeah, thank you guys,
thanks having Chase.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
