Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Tony Pike since he three sixty about Cincinnati
from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy Shirts
all sincey all day. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
All right, here we go. It's our number two thanks
to Cincy Shirts. On ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Each and every Wednesday at one o'clock, Zach Taylor takes
the podium. He's speaking there now from pay Course Stadium
as we go to Zach Taylor.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Right, no, not today?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
You said he will be doubtful this week. Right, Yeah, Okay,
he'd expecting a practice this week.

Speaker 5 (00:38):
He'll be doubtful this week. What about same? You know,
we'll keep working through week to week with him flak
coel not third today, He'll be similar to a two
weeks ago. He'll throw tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Well, I do you have any kind of updated timeline
on Mike Dasiki.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
Yeah, things are coming along nicely. I think this is
the last week of his four weeks he's required to miss,
so we'll assess at the end of this week and
see where he's at. I know he's met with doctors
this week, but things have been encouraging. I don't want
to make a prediction on where it lands. But his
his progress has been really good.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
You think Joe looks Burrow looks on Monday really sharp,
really sharp.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
You know, I had not watched him throw.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
He'd been doing that with the trainers, So seeing him
live on Monday get a chance to do that, I
was I'm not gonna say I'm impressed, because that's that's
how it always looks.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
But he was really sharp.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Didn't look like he had been coming off an injury.
I mean, did how much how much could you tell?

Speaker 5 (01:34):
No, not from a throwings perspective, I mean, everything was
in the pocket there, there wasn't you know. It wasn't
eleven on eleven, so he wasn't required to move. He
does normal movements through the ball nice and so for now,
that's just that's where we're at. You know, like I said,
we're not doing any eleven on eleven. We'll have a
really good progression plan for him as part of his
rehab and we'll go from there.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Do you don't have an idea of when you want
to start eleven on eleven.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
We'll just get through this week and then figure out
what next week. But we internally We've got a good
plan in place, and we'll just keep working through that.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
What changes this week from last time we played Pittsburgh,
you know, just a couple of short weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
I mean there's three games I think between both two
games from US, three from them on tape, so they've
had a couple of personnel changes. We've had some personnel
changes as well. It's always interesting, you know, it feels
like they're they're tight turnarounds for the divisional games, and
so you spend obviously a lot of time watching our
last game against them, trying to predict what they do
the same, what they do different.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
That's the fun of it.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
You know, you've got to get ready to get into
the game and be ready to adjust as we get
going there, and I think both teams were built to
do that. We've played these enough, so it'll just be
interesting to see how it plays out.

Speaker 7 (02:42):
With the Logan trade, What steps do you expect to
see both Baron and Demetrius take.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
In their positions?

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Well, just keep keep gaining experience from the reps they're getting.
I don't think that the trade has anything to do
with that. You know their position and where they're at.
Just keep keep learning. They're going to make stakes. The
times they're sold to react to something, let that be
the one time it happens, you know, and learn from
that one, put it behind you, and continue to grow.
And I expect both those guys continue to do that.

Speaker 7 (03:10):
I know Warren has talked a lot about and Demetrius
as well about I'm sorry, I know Barrett has talked
about Warren, so as Demetrius, what kind of impact leadership does.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Yeah, he's been around a lot of winning teams. You know,
He's played countless NFC championship games. So I think he's
been a really good resource for that room as especially
right now, the veteran in the room, him and Joe
Giles Harris have got great experience. They've done a great
job mentoring those guys, doing a good job with the

(03:42):
roles that they're playing, and so I'm glad to have one.
I think he's done an excellent job just helping outside
of the coaches develop those those young linebackers.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
That we have.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
From a work standpoint, what was the biggest objective that
you had during the bye week, Well, you.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Just try to review any tendencies you got, bull sides
of the ball, things that weaknesses that you want to
continue to do, but you got to improve on and
how you're going to improve it, the strength that you
can build on. And so again there's there's I think
sometimes it's a bit of an overreaction on what all
changes during the bye week. It's just because we're always
trying to review what we're doing every every single week,

(04:17):
we have that information. Uh So again it's just fine
tuned to some stuff and getting a little bit of
an advance on Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Is the old line trending up? And if so, I think.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
That they're trending up, I think you know, if that's
sibility at center in the two tackle spots, then you
get the two young guards that are ascending and learning
a lot really fast. This is a huge challenge for them.
You know, this game in a lot of ways goes
as they go. It's a tremendous front group that Pittsburgh has.
They present a challenge every game you watch, you know

(04:52):
it a lot of times comes down to the trenches
in this one and especially on the road, silent cadence,
the advanta it is just that that creates for them,
and so we have to do a great job. This
is they need to continue to trend upwards in a
game like this.

Speaker 8 (05:06):
If Samar and Trey you can't go, where are you
looking to step up this week in place of them?

Speaker 6 (05:11):
Too?

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Well, we still got Joseph Miles. Cam said, you know,
so we've got a group of guys that have been
working in there that would continue to go.

Speaker 9 (05:18):
It was a limited sample size, was said, But how
did you think he played against the Bears and the
practices leading up to that.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
Yeah, I think it's good to have him back against
It's been about all the right stuff. It's just been
unfortunate what happened to him, you know, early in training camp.
So we didn't get that spot. But he's not a
guy we were excited about coming off last season. All
through the spring, he made a really good impression and everybody,
defensive staff, special teams, and so just continue to increase
his role as he gets more comfortable, Zach.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
When it's time to finish a game, how much of
that is the makeup of the player of their mindset
and how much of that is coaching to finish the
right way?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
If that makes sense.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
I think it's all different circumstances. Whatever that game dictates
is usually how it goes.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
Is there a certain certain way that you kind of
preaching practice, you guys go about it as a coaching staff.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Or you use a head coach, Evan, It's always different.
I mean again, every every game is going to come
down to a different finish and what it's required.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Do the stakes feel higher going into this week knowing
that the North is probably your best path to getting
a division or getting the playoffs?

Speaker 10 (06:15):
One?

Speaker 4 (06:15):
How does the stakes feel going into a game like that?

Speaker 5 (06:17):
And the stakes always feel high in divisional games. So
I don't think where we're at in our season is different,
but you do feel, you know, anytime you're getting a chance.
Right now, look at your two to zero in the division.
We got a chance to go three and oh and
that would be a huge step in the right direction
of putting us back in with with the teams that
are at the top two of our division. So it's
always significant regardless of where we're at. You know, whatever

(06:40):
game the regular season we're at, when you're playing a
divisional game, chance to go one to o and separate
yourself a little bit from the pack or get yourself
into the pack. Huge we're embracing. It always feels like
a big game when you're playing these types of games.

Speaker 11 (06:56):
Thank you ECT.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Wow, short and sweet. That's coming off a bye from
Zach Taylor and nothing else to talk about. I got
that at six minutes in thirty seven seconds. Wow from
Zachi ballgame. That might be a record what I wrote
down Shamar Stewart week to week, yeap doesn't seem like

(07:20):
he's going to practice today. Trey Hendrickson not going to
practice today. He's doubtful, said Joe Burrow. Looked sharp, looked
like his same self on Monday, and that was the
first time that Zach had seen him throw. Biggest part
of the bye week was reviewing tendencies and his own
strengths and weaknesses or their own strengths and weaknesses. Does
believe the offensive line is trending up thanks to stability

(07:44):
at the center and tackle positions and the learning of
those two young guards, and that the stakes always feel
a little bit higher in the AFC North.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, outside of what you just hit on. Also, Trey
Hendrickson's doubtful feels right now. No Trey and no Chamar
this week. Mike KASICKI trending back in the right direction.
I wrote down as well, the Burrow comment about how
sharp he looked also interesting because of the point you
made in the last hour. No Joe Flacco throwing today again.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, which you know, as Zach said, that's the same
plan as last week, and clearly it worked, or I
shouldn't say last week, the previous game. Clearly it worked
the way that he performed. So yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
The tendencies, the focus on tendencies during the bye week
is always fascinating to me because it's so much about
what goes into the week to week preparation for your opponents.
You know, tendencies are how you know, when when I
was in Carolina and even when I was at UC,
the first meeting that you're having during the week about

(08:51):
an opponent, you're talking about their tendencies. The first meeting
that you have, you're you're given. At the time, for me,
it was a DVD. Now it's on the iPads for
the players. You have all of an opponent's tendencies. You
have what the team does on first down, what do
they do defensively on second down? What do they do
on third down? What about third and one to three?

(09:12):
What about four to six? What about third and seven
to ten? What about third and ten plus you literally
have tendencies broken down into every possible category that you
could about an opponent, and out of those tendencies, you
then learn third and seven to ten, let's say seventy
percent of the time they're a cover three team. Let's

(09:33):
say third down and long forty eight, fifty percent of
the time they're a blitz team. That is why the
tendencies is such an important thing to revisit during a
bye because you don't want to make it easy on
an opponent. You don't just want to say, well, here's
what this team does, and we pretty much know at

(09:53):
this point when it comes to third and four, we
know what they're going to be in. It's so important
to get out ahead of your own tendencies so that
you don't just fall into being predictable for an opponent
on offense or defense, to be able to pinpoint this
is pretty much who they are, especially when you have

(10:14):
an opponent who you've already played once this year, because
now you have tendencies and you have your game that
you already played against that opponent. League games are so
much more difficult, so the ability on a bye week
going into a league game is key to me, because
you can erase those tendencies, and that makes it a
heck of a lot harder on Pittsburgh to respond in

(10:36):
game to what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Yeah, I did think. I have a couple of numbers
here if you're interested, please that I found interesting when
it comes to the Bengals. So this is personnel groupings
in weeks six through ten, so the most recent weeks,
including a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals at
the highest percentage in the NFL eighty three percent of

(10:59):
their snaps have come in eleven personnel that's one running back,
one tight end. They have gone sixteen percent of their
snaps in twelve personnel, one running back, two tight ends.
They have not had have zero percent in thirteen personnel,
twenty one personnel, twenty two personnel or six or more

(11:22):
offensive linemen. So they've really only got themselves into two
personnel groupings offensively eighty three percent eleven, sixteen percent twelve.
In that stretch of time, they have tied for the
second best expected points added in the NFL at zero
point two to two. The best is the Rams at

(11:45):
zero point twenty six. The Bengals, Eagles, Chiefs, and Colts
are all next, and the Bengals have better EPA on
offense than the Chiefs and Colts in their different personnel groupings.
I thought that was an interesting one as far as
the Steelers are concerned. Who the Bengals are playing this week,
thirty five percent of the time they are in eleven personnel,

(12:07):
which is a vast difference than what the Bengals do.
And if you remember that first time that the Bengals
and Steelers played on Thursday Night Football, we saw a
lot more of Logan Wilson because the Steelers had multiple
tight ends on the field. They're at twenty eight percent
in that twelve personnel, one running back, two tight ends.
They go eighteen percent with three tight ends on the field,

(12:32):
and then at fifteen percent of the time six or
more offensive linemen. Yeah. So one of the parts of
this game to me that now is starting to become
really interesting is, Okay, Logan Wilson was fine in that
Steelers game. He did have one really nice pass defense.
What is the role of those young linebackers going to
be Is Orrin Burk's now going to be thrust into

(12:55):
that Logan Wilson role as being the run stopping linebacker,
because I don't think that Pittsburgh's just gonna show up
and run seventy percent of their snaps out of eleven personnel. Now,
I think they're gonna stick to who they are, which
is multiple tight ends on the field and using the
big bodies of guys like Darnell Washington. And I'm curious
to see how the Bengals react to that. And Zach

(13:17):
talked a little bit about those linebackers, but that could
be to me the type of difference from game one
to Game two that can change the outcome of the game.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, do you think we're gonna have to see like
twenty times again on Sunday the combined weight of the
line and Darnell Washington for the No, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
We got fed out a ton Thursday Night Football. The
TV group this time. Now I'm gonna be listening to
Dan Horde and Dave Lappy. Yeah, but I did see
that the production of the CBS crew this week is
Kevin Harlan and Try Green. Those guys know what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yeah, it was I knew. I felt like I left
that game knowing more about Darnell Washington. I have in
five years of any other player.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
I will say this though, it is amazing how big
he looks on TV. Massive, Like, if you look that
big on TV, you gotta just be unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
And well, I was watching Sunday night. They made comment
that they've approached him or were approaching him about moving
to town. Yeah, I heard that too, and he's kind
of like, no, I'm good. And they made a good catch,
made a good catch, But.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Dude, I would not want that coming at me.

Speaker 10 (14:23):
No.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
He does kind of remind me of Jerome Bettis a
little bit. That's that's how ginormous Bettis felt when I
was a kid.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Yeah, I just don't it doesn't make much sense for
Pittsburgh why they wouldn't have went and got one other
playmaker at wide receiver, you know what I mean. Like
Friar Muth is solid. I like what they do when
they go big and force the issue in the running game.
And Metcalf is good. But teams, you want to talk
about tendency.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
You're talking about man, they got Marquez Valdez.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Scale teams just I think feel like if they just
send extra help to DK Metcalf, they're going to be okay. Yeah,
Like you can't let DK Metcalf go off in a
game against the Steelers. I agree that that's one guy like,
but I feel you have to account for him and
Rogers at this point. If he's ever one on one,
Rogers will aboard everything and throw it to him. He'll

(15:11):
get out of whatever play they're in, and he'll make
sure that that DK Metcalf's getting the ball. So I
don't even give him the option.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
But if you're the Steelers, you know, don't you kind
of welcome that? This week? Hey, why don't you put
two guys on Dk Metcalf. I'm going to eviscerate your
young linebackers underneath with my tight ends.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Well, I mean you're you're going up against future Hall
of Famer Pat Fryermuth. Oh, well, there's a hall of famer.
When he plays every.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Tight ends future hall of famer. That's also true. Speaking
of future Hall of Fame tight ends. You see the
news a little bit ago, Rob Gronkowski It's coming Back,
has officially retired as a New England Patriot. Oh okay,
signed a one day deal today to retire a Patriot.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Maybe kind of made me where like, why wouldn't you
just sign a deal and play one more game next week,
knowing it's against this defense.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
So there's that. But you know, well, in the press
conference today, Robert Kraft said, how about a two day
deal because the Patriots play on Thursday Night Football next
week or tomorrow. And Gronk said, what's the siding? BoatUS
tell you what man? Could you imagine? You imagine him?

Speaker 2 (16:17):
He plays Thursday and then plays against the Bengals and
then he retires, and like an O to Bill Belichick,
I'm on to Cincinnati one more time.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Yes, I'm gonna put a pin in this to talk
about tomorrow, and I know we have limited time. Maybe
we'll get to it on Friday. Because I'm fascinated by
this personnel thing. The Rams, for example, they have the
best EPA in the NFL. They're at thirteen personnel forty

(16:44):
percent of the time. Yeah. The next closest team in
the NFL is Pittsburgh at eighteen percent, so more than
double the Rams are in thirteen personnel, one running back,
three tight ends. And because of that, defenses are putting
a variation of their base defense on the field, which

(17:05):
creates miss mismatches for Sean McVeigh to exploit. I heard
Greg Olsen talking about this yesterday that if he were
a defensive play caller, he would no longer match up
based off personnel. Yea, it would be based off of
UH formation or whatever it was. And I want to
pick your brain about that, maybe that Thursday or Friday,

(17:25):
and maybe that is part of reading reality. Yeah, how
defenses choose to to defend offenses and maybe how that
could shape a Sunday's game against the Stellers.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
I do think it's interesting you mentioned that, Like, I
feel like I talk all the time about personnel matching scheme.
Doesn't it feel like every pick the Rams make, doesn't
it feel like that player matches who they need to
be perfectly sure? That's the that's the that's the example
that I go to.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
I think Detroit's a good example of this too.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Like players they draft and then you're like, oh, that
makes sense, that's gonna fit.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
It just doesn't happen as much as City, not as
much as they used to. But yeah, that's a couple
of years ago as one of those teams for sure.
For sure.

Speaker 12 (18:09):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
The Wednesday edition of your Talkbacks happens next on this
the Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati sports
station thanks to Cincy shirts.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Ex go and.

Speaker 13 (18:22):
Grab your phone and record a message. Just hit that microphone.

Speaker 14 (18:26):
Please keep it clean and don't mean and those.

Speaker 15 (18:31):
Sprinkle sprinkle drip drip drips.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
It's at Despert talkbacks.

Speaker 13 (18:36):
It's suck favorite party since E three sixty Boston, buddy,
play those talkbacks on your screen and please drive now
to sabotage it.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
All right, Look, we don't do the sabotaging thing. It's
just you leave the talkback. We're gonna play it. I
also have learned via social media that, uh, we have
a first time talkback today at some point.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Oh yeah, I did you see that? I believe our
guy Quinn tweeted at him. Yeah is that right? Yeah, okay, okay.

Speaker 16 (19:05):
Often elmore taking off callers happens here on Cincinnati's ESPN
in fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
That's right. Let me tell you what. If you're listening, Mike,
I welcome your phone calls. I do too. I would
love to hear from you, Mike. I listen. Mike has
gotten hours and hours of airtime on this station, and
he gets criticized once and he gives up. Not a
big fan Hey.

Speaker 17 (19:34):
Guys, it's Jeff Happy Wednesday. So the Bearcats did what
they needed to do last night. However, the turnovers, twenty
four of them is just too much. I get that
they're trying to run, they just seem like they were
a little bit off. So hopefully they get that fixed

(19:57):
before next Friday, because I watched part of the Louisville
last night and they look scary good.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Yeah, man, Louisville looks good. Louisville is a good basketball team,
and that it'll be interesting next Friday, but it's been
a game that type of game next Friday is what
people have been clamoring that west Miller eventually needs to win.

Speaker 15 (20:17):
Man, what a great win by you see you last night.
I don't care if Dayton's not Power five or not.
They play you see tough every time they play. And
to have twenty four turnovers and still win by double digits,
that's impressive. We got some talent now on this squall
Abaya as a dog. I like Kirk Chris even with
them turnovers, and day they was silk down the stretch
with that free throw.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
I'm going to the cross Town shootout.

Speaker 16 (20:39):
I'm super stroked about that.

Speaker 15 (20:40):
And let's steal that then you on Sunday. Them tickets
are shaped.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Come on, come on, Mount Saint Mary's.

Speaker 18 (20:51):
Greg Sharonville, Hey, Tony, I was at the game last night.
Early prediction for the shootout.

Speaker 19 (20:58):
You see X fifty eight, it's over, Okay.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Would Xavier fans take a twelve point loss right now?
I'd say forty eight, More like forty eight, seventy to
forty eight.

Speaker 19 (21:12):
Timer, Hey, guys, and I got out the portals and
making college basketball really difficult to figure out. I've watched
Bear casts three times and I still can't get it
real them. And I think that was a good Dayton
team last night. Either I'm happy for Kelsey, but the
bearcasters step up their game, or I think Louiso's.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Going to kick their butt. Okay, thank you, I think
that's fair. Thank you.

Speaker 20 (21:36):
Dami Audi. This is Wayne from Oakley. There it is
I'll here in Laver Dinner, Denver, Colorado. I'm talking about
turbulence for a moment. I thought last night, since ninety
versus Dayton game and more turbulence with Morty cows called
on both sides. Yeah, and I was gonna say that

(21:57):
was more rough than that flight.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
I just took the Denver. Let me say this, you
start flying out to Denver, Arizona, that type area, do
you get a little turbulent?

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Now I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I don't
know how more people stay calm or I don't know
how more people don't freak out with turbulence. I am
terrified of turbulence. I immediately anytime the plane starts shaking,
I look around me to see if anyone else is panicking.
And then I fly I look at the flight attendants.
Are they operating like normal? Are they buckling into and

(22:28):
if they're buckling in more in trouble.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
I mean to be honest with you, Whenever I get
on a plane, as we're pulling onto the runway to
take off, that's when I make my peace with the Lord.
And it's like, I know, if this thing goes up,
there's a chance I'm not gonna come back. So whenever
we hit turbulence, I'm just like, all right, well here

(22:50):
we go, I have already made my peace. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
This is one other thing, the inability one I think
you see subs a ton. We've talked about that before.
Forty nine fouls called it was impossible for either team
to find any sort of rhythm last night, referees remain terrible.

Speaker 10 (23:08):
Hello, this is former president ron O'dreagan.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Well, I'm not.

Speaker 10 (23:12):
So sure about Joe Burrow coming back for the Thanksgiving game.
If he were to come back, though, I feel more
comfortable and confident with him coming back as a defensive
back rather than a quarterback. I mean, he's got to
be a better tackler than what we've got back there
right now.

Speaker 21 (23:31):
Maybe Mary del high Hey shout out to Shamar Stewart.
Happy birthday today, Bud. Question of the day, Budd, is
smart Stuart going to have more birthdays.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
This year and more sacks this year?

Speaker 21 (23:43):
Who was a betting man? I'd say probably more birthdays unfortunately.
My other point is the Bengals need to start drafting
guys that produced at a college level, because a couple
of years in a row they've bought guys that look
great on paper but don't put up good stats. Miles

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Look like Tarzan, play like James put it on the pole.

Speaker 16 (24:07):
A thousand times means hello, oh gospeak to crawl isn't.

Speaker 11 (24:14):
Me on looking far?

Speaker 16 (24:17):
I can save us out a line. I can hear
the crowd run. But I gotta tell you weekends.

Speaker 18 (24:29):
Afford you. Oh my god, wow.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Wow, I'm gonna I'm gonna play that again. Please just
listen closely to what you tail man.

Speaker 11 (24:43):
In my dreams.

Speaker 18 (24:44):
You're fit home runs a thousand times.

Speaker 16 (24:50):
Hello, oh speak to crawl. Isn't me on looking far?
I can save us out a line. I can hear
the crowd run.

Speaker 18 (25:04):
Bet, I got'ta tell you weekends afford you.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Godow, God bless Kyle Schwarber. I'm gonna tell you what,
God bless dj Mitlance mc alister. Gosh, that's good.

Speaker 11 (25:24):
Going.

Speaker 10 (25:25):
Hey, Nancy's asking and asking how many weeks Joe Burrow
has missed, and I told her six seven.

Speaker 11 (25:34):
You see what this Burrow is is done to us fans.
You got people calling in saying, no, I don't think
that miraculous, impossible date of Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
I think he's gonna be back next week.

Speaker 11 (25:48):
I mean, our fan We're like a bunch of abused
dogs that have been you know, abused by owner for
two years straight. Every day still hoping and thinking he's
gonna come home with a true and then Nope, comes
home and s maxes again, and I know, I get
a lot of it.

Speaker 22 (26:08):
Is we we're done, Tody Ausin, George v toown. Hey,
Tony man, that that game was so sloppy last night.
Only reason you see wins that game is because ud
was what two for like twenty four from three point l.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
I mean, you see is not?

Speaker 22 (26:29):
I mean, I don't know who your point guard is.
If you want to call Day Day your point guard,
I mean that's a it's a sad thing coming.

Speaker 11 (26:35):
Man.

Speaker 22 (26:35):
He's never gonna have the end of them all the
way he needs to. That you should have won that
game later in this season, they would win that game.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Well they didn't win the game. Oh you s won
the game. That's like a hypothetical SEC fan And at
the end of the day, that's all it matters.

Speaker 22 (26:48):
I'll just listen to you talk about this. Tony uh
Benna is not our best player and Jay, you know
I'm not. I'm not gonna gonna give you names.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
I'm just gonna give you numbers.

Speaker 14 (26:57):
We're missing.

Speaker 22 (26:58):
Our best player is Adam and Jay is number five.
He will be back, and when he is back, he's
our best player.

Speaker 10 (27:06):
Again.

Speaker 14 (27:06):
I'm not gonna give you play your name. He was
out last night, number seven is our best player on
the team.

Speaker 22 (27:10):
Well, how to You don't watch enough gide basketball to
tell us who the best player on the team is.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Well, Conte Jones had seven points last night and took
eight shots.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
You don't watch enough basketball to tell us who the
best player on the team is. George doesn't even know
their name. No, he couldn't pronounce the name, so he
just gave me numbers. Idiot.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Javon Bennett has been at Dayton. I believe it's his
third or fourth year. And believe it or not, I've
watched a lot of Dayton over the past couple of
years for different reasons, but I've watched a lot of
the Dayton Flyers play. I think Javon Bennett's a good player.
He everges sixteen points, that is sixteen points a game.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Good, Yeah, I think so? Okay?

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Well, yea averages sixteen points a game. He plays thirty
four minutes a game. I think he's one of their
better players. And again, my point of view is that
point guards usually make the team go, so you need
a good guard in order to make things happen. Javon
Bennett plays guard. I think he's one of their better players,

(28:17):
but number seven, Yeah, what do you what do you apologize? Well,
if you would have pronounced the names. He also said,
a player that's not even playing yet, so he's not
the best player on the court, doesn't count. Yeah, it
doesn't count. Playing doesn't count.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Your best ability is your availability? Yeah, it's number seven.

Speaker 8 (28:32):
And then someone touched base on the Easton game last night.
All the turnovers were just lazy perimeter turnovers. There was
a couple end of the game where curve was getting cute,
But I want to talk about the free throw shooting.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
It seems to me that may be one.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
Of the reasons why players nowadays is just they can't
tune out the noise used to wearing earbuds and headphones
when they're practicing, and I do think some daily life
and they just can't turn everything off and just conturre
and focused on.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Free Okay, so maybe maybe the headphones we're seeing at
UC practice where guys were wearing.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Head I think the headphones are to blame. Listen, I'm
not It's not a national thing. Because I watch basketball
teams make free throws every night of the week. They
just don't make him here in Cincinnati. I don't know
if it's not valued, I.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Will say this something to do with the climate. I
got in the car last night. It's a new arena.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Got in the car and I'm listening to Dan Horde
and Steve Logan. Talked to Wes Miller and as they're talking,
Seana Bive with fans still in the stands, is out
on the court working on his foul shots. After a game,
back out there working on free throws. At least I
respect that side.

Speaker 10 (29:43):
Now.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Wes Miller was asked about that and he said, that's good.
I wish he was out here working on his defensive
slides a little bit, but nonetheless, at least he was
out there practicing.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
Without headphones. I'd like to see the Reds books.

Speaker 12 (29:57):
I want to see their profit margins, and then I
want them to explain to me why this payroll is
roughly the same as it was last season. Secondly, if
you're Zach Taylor and this Bengals offense going into this Sunday,
you've got to take every single offensive snap down to
the last second.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
You got to keep that defense off the field.

Speaker 12 (30:16):
That's one way to do it.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Clock management.

Speaker 12 (30:18):
If you can score at will keep your d off
and snap that ball with one second.

Speaker 14 (30:23):
Okay, I'll listen to the end of the Kentucky Louisville
game last night. I need to hear Jack Gus Gibbons
fifty years later, still rocking with Kentucky. The six foot
seventh thing. That's that's way over my head. I think

(30:44):
it helps the South Flacca has played the Steelers a
million times, but he can't tackle. If I was the Steelers,
I just do three tight ends hand.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Catch.

Speaker 23 (30:57):
Start repping the city out here, somebody, hotbody, Man, what
did I watch last night?

Speaker 3 (31:03):
Twenty four turnovers? Man, you press you see they gonna
turn the ball over. We got a problem.

Speaker 23 (31:08):
I was watching Louisville game and watching UC's game, comparing
back and forth styles. Did not like what I see.
Louisville terrifies me. Man, bab bab Miller disappeared, dude, real talk.
We need to step up. We need an alpha now.
You see better figure a way to win this game.
And uh, Tony Iceman calling you out. He wants to
win the Show's good.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
They caught out. I get caught out again? Yeah, I mean,
who knows? You probably get fired again. I can't do
anything these days that I'll get in trouble. Ah energy,
how are we here? How captain, my captain? The return
of Joe Burrow? What kind of a.

Speaker 8 (31:45):
Legal stem cell Frankenstein's monsters going on here?

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Like to know, Ah, just hit a voter or something,
but what's that?

Speaker 16 (31:57):
Anyways?

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Welcome back, captain. We'll see you soon. Thank you. Did
he get in touch with that dude with that laser?
That might have been what happened?

Speaker 24 (32:06):
Oh my god, Beinianna here in Naples, Florida. Hey, Ben, Ye,
I'm excited with the Joe Burrow news as everybody else is.
I'm also real in the fact that it's too little,
too late most likely. But you know, I was thinking,
I believe Joe has the longest active winning streak of
any quarterback right now injury aside, doesn't he? Yeah, so hey,

(32:29):
gotta lose one first, right, of course, got to win
the next two, Okay?

Speaker 3 (32:34):
I believe that would be seven straight games started by
Joe Burrow's results to begel victory. It's the Lord. It's
pretty interesting.

Speaker 25 (32:42):
Around the same time, Joe Burrow has his twenty one
day window open, so does the scene. Watson at the
Cleveland Browns has his twenty one day window open, it's
the scene. Does he have any chance of playing again?

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yes, if his windows open, he does. Yes, he does.
He absolutely does have a chance of playing again. By
the way, quick update from Baltimore. Lamar Jackson not practicing today.
Took some hard hits towards the end of that game
against Minnesota. The injury report came out late, comes out
later this afternoon, but noteworthy, Lamar Jackson not prask practicing today,

(33:19):
nor are starting wide receiver Rashad Bateman, running back Justice Hill,
cornerback Marlin Humphrey. So the Raven's dealing with some injuries.

Speaker 9 (33:32):
Boy, he loong tam talk. I was listening yesterday you
guys talking about old Joey Burrets coming back in his crystals.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
You know, back in my.

Speaker 9 (33:44):
Day, my Swampbusters recalled Black Peggy and Margaret names like that.
I never had a crystal.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
That's incredible.

Speaker 26 (34:00):
They often but I listen every day and I look
forward to Mike. I love you, man, Come mom, appreciate
your service, and I really do appreciate your your outlook
on the sports, whether it's local or LA, it doesn't matter.
And if anybody has a problem with it, who cares.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Amen, that's right. Amen.

Speaker 18 (34:25):
Hello, this is James in an unincorporated Butler County, Austin.
You need to apologize. Why would you do this to Mike?

Speaker 3 (34:37):
I mean, walkway through the whole thing. I need to
understand what happened.

Speaker 18 (34:42):
I mean, do you realize that this man is in hospice,
not hospitality room. I know you, you radiotypes. You enjoy
the hospitality room and all the sporting events.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
That's not what we're talking about. Mike came in, he
made a phone call. It was fine. I later on said,
wasn't his best. He called it and told me to
if you dictate what I get to talk about, you
can kiss my butt. Then hung up. So that's the
last time I talked. Though. It was nothing mean, it
was nothing egregious. It was like the one that gets

(35:15):
I feel like it affects me the most. It was
a difference in opinion. I enjoy talking to Mike.

Speaker 11 (35:19):
I do too.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Hey, guys, TJ east Side, awesome question.

Speaker 5 (35:24):
Why do you also find it so funny when somebody
calls somebody else bud, like happy birthday Bud.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
But it is a great term for cheef dude, anything
like that.

Speaker 17 (35:34):
But I'm curious wise because they're not like personally friends
with them.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
What's up with laughing about the words?

Speaker 2 (35:40):
But it's it's one of the things I to get
get Austin through early on because in my circle of life,
but is a term of endearment, right, and you weren't
used to that early.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
On, correct, So quite frankly, I don't like the term bud.
I don't like being called bud. I see it as
a derogatory term. I see it, especially when it's comes
from somebody that you don't respect. I don't like it,
and so I've always seen it as like a little

(36:14):
demeaning towards someone. Okay, now that being said, the Pike
family has taught me their version of bud is the
exact opposite. Yeah, Bud, it is very so like Big
Steve is the He's the all time greatest at this

(36:35):
ye Tony Like those people are fine. And I really
don't mind being called bud from people that I respect.
But if you call me Bud or buddy and I
don't respect you, I will normally nip that in the bud.

Speaker 27 (36:50):
Hey, Joe from Casey here, I went to a UD
graduated in two thousand as they around the same time
as Mo. There's this guy on our team. He's got
dark carry, he's pretty tall, big hands, he's by far
our best player. For you to think it's anybody.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Else, Chris, that's good.

Speaker 6 (37:12):
You know.

Speaker 12 (37:12):
I was always under the impression that the great Miami
River ran through Dayton, But apparently it's denial.

Speaker 10 (37:21):
Wow, but wow.

Speaker 26 (37:27):
If Austin Elmore got rid of Mike, we needed to
get rid of Austin Anymore.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Well you might have to wait that long. Uh, Mike
got rid of himself. I am not Mike. Mike is
not banned. Mike chose to walk away. He's welcome here anytime.
You'd welcome Mike's call today. Absolutely, I said that multiple times.
That's it. So that's one, all right. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
I always love the point of talkbacks where you get
that you you can sense where people are responding to
other talkbacks.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
They heard, yes, which was the George not one guy?
George left. He's not counting down the days to Ohio State, Michigan.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
He's not you know, he's hurts, he's not playing, and
he doesn't want to even go into names. But he'll
just give the numbers on the scouting report.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
I mean, you got to understand if you're George, how
that makes you look You don't have to submit the
talkback once you record it. That's right. You could say,
all right, hold on, what are these guys' names? You
can do the research, but it just makes you look
stupid by the way.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
That guy and it's three games in that Keyante Jones
number seven going into George that you don't have to
say his name. He averages eight points seven points a game.
The leading scorer through three games for the Dayton Flyers
is Jivon Bennett. Bennett for the Flyers, just to get
that out there, he leads the team in minutes played,

(38:47):
in points per game, and assists per game. And he's
the starting point guard. That tells me he's one of
the better players.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
On the team. There you go. AnyWho.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Football in the Natti is next on ESPN fifteen thirty,

Button Light on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of
the Cincinnati Bengals Football in the NATI.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Welcome back thanks to Cincy Shirts. Our number two.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
The college Football Playoff rankings happened last night Austin. Not
much movement on the Tuesday night edition the second college
Football Playoff rankings outside of what the State of Texas
was able to accomplish last night. The Texas A and
m AGAs are still in the first round. By position,
they are number three. Texas Tech moved all the way

(39:58):
up to number six. It's win over BYU and with
the BYU loss, the Texas Longhorns with two losses have
moved up to number ten, so a win for the
state of Texas last night. Miami came in at number fifteen,

(40:19):
their top ACC team, and South Florida is the first
group of five team to appear in the college Football
Playoff this season.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Don't bury the lead. The Bearcats are in it. Bearcats
are in at number twenty five for twenty five. Number
twenty five. It's good news.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
The Cincinnati Bearcats have cracked the College Football Playoff rankings.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
I have a question okay, and I'm this is not
me being in Ohio. It's about Javon Bennett. Don't want
to hear it. No, this is not me being an
Ohio State homer. But I think back to Oregon last
year as well in this the way that this playoff
is set up. Isn't having the number one seed like
the worst draw I would because you play the winner

(41:09):
of eight versus nine. Yeah, because, first of all, I've
always said it's dumb that the top four teams get
a bye. I don't agree with that. But because of that,
you end up playing the winner of eight versus nine
instead of, you know, potentially the lowest remaining seat. Yeah,

(41:31):
it's one of the things that I wondered. So, like
Ohio State right now, if this holds and this is
the twelve teams at the end of the year, Ohio
State would play the winner of Notre Dame in Oregon
as opposed to Georgia or UCF or USF Correct Miami
or Texas Tech Texas or Old miss Like, all those

(41:52):
teams are really good. But even last year for Oregon
they got the short end of the stick. They played
Ohio State, and out of of those it almost sets
up best for Bama the four seed. I agree, like, yeah,
Indiana is getting no break at number two with Texas
rold mess Texas A. I legitimately, I do think Texas

(42:13):
Tech could be one of the top five teams. Sure,
I think they're good.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
So that's a tough draw for Texas A and M
George is okay, but it's not as dominant they've been
and they would probably beat usf Yeah. I mean, if
you're looking at first round matchups and who you probably
wouldn't want to play, Notre Dame er Oregan would be
at the top of that, and that's right now. Who
the number one overall seed. Ohio State would play the

(42:38):
winner off, and you know Oregon got screwed by this
last year. I just don't understand why the highest remaining
seat or the highest seed plays the shading seed like
it does in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
I don't understand completely redo the bracket after each round. Yeah, yeah,
one break, one touch and go. The Great Dan Horde
will join us to kick off the third hour. That's
next SINCY three sixty, ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
You've been listening to football in the Nati on ESPN

scribbles to the top of the key, driving.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
The bucket, he proves down a left hand windmill dunk.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
That's what it sounded like, one of many poster dunks
last night for the Cincinnati Bearcats and roped to a
twelve point victory over George's Dayton Flyers last night at
Philoid Arena.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
I like the way left handed dunks look. Yep, just
like a left handed shot, you know, always looks better,
always looks smooth.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
Left handed dunks always looks smooth. That's how it sounded
from Dan Horror, who joins us in just a few moments.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
