Speaker 1 (00:44):
Starting in and out of treatments like gas? Let me
tell you good morning, Good morning, gardeners. Welcome to garden Line.
Gardeners and want to be our hope be gardeners. You
both welcome. We are here to provide you information so
(01:05):
you can have a bountiful garden and a beautiful landscape.
And the very important third part is more fun in
the process. Gardening is an enjoyable hobby and should be
an enjoyable hobby. And if you feel like you have
a brown thumb, well you've come to the green place.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Just you got to do is bring your thumb with
you to guarden Line and we'll visit with your thumb
a little bit and get it up to speed and
you'll be amazed how brown that thumb turns and how quickly.
If you'd like to give me a call ask a
gardening question today, you can. Here's the number seven one
three two one two five eight seven four seven one
(01:41):
three two one two fifty eight seventy four. We'll be
glad to visit with you about the questions that you
might have regarding success with gardening. Boy, oh boy, do
you like the weather that we are about to have
and the weather that we've been having? You know, after
going through summer, we can't complain about warm. Although I
(02:02):
am hearing people complain about yesterday and today being so warm. Well, okay,
they're a little bit warm, But my goodness, what have
we You know, the escaping the summer months has just
been a really nice thing. We're going to get some
cool weather in here, not cold, but cool, and we're
looking forward to that coming too. Just remember this. When
(02:25):
the weather cools off and when we get a little
bit of rainfall or you irrigate your grass, what ends
up happening is a disease called brown patch, also called
large patch. It gets in it makes us big brown
circles in the cool season. Now, fortunately, this disease doesn't
kill grass. It just makes you look ugly. It does
(02:49):
not kill grass. The circles that are brown will regreen
when the warm weather comes, so you get to look
at them all winter. That's why we like to prevent
them if we can, and there's ways to do that,
and I'll talk about some of that a little bit
later here. But if you're going to take if you're
gonna take steps to do that, now it's time to
get it done. Last call, I guess you could say, uh,
(03:10):
cause again, once the circles appear, well, there's no green
in them until spring comes. Just preventing them or preventing
additional ones. That's the case. Our trees went through a
lot of stress toward the end of summer. We had
a we had a building drought. They kind of went
somewhat unnoticed. They did by me, at least, and I
(03:30):
was seeing some leaves falling off my crape myrtle trees
early on, and I just kind of ignored it and stuff,
and then kind of got to thinking, man, these things
need water, and the stress is not a good thing
for the trees. And so hopefully now we've got some
water on the roots and they're going to be doing
what they need to do to make these final preparations
for the cool season. Now, when the cool season arrives,
(03:51):
it's time to prune your trees.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
And but even though it hadn't arrived yet, it is
time now to call Martin Spoon Moore out affordable tree service.
And for Martin has been doing this for many, many years.
We're talking about decades in the business here.
Speaker 7 (04:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
And so he knows what he's doing. And if you
want him to come out and prune your trees, you
need to give him a call, and you need to
do it soon because he stays busy. When you do
good work, you stay busy. And here's the number seven
one three six' ninety nine two six sixty. Three go
ahead and call, him get on the, schedule, uh and
have him come out there and do the dormancy's in
(04:30):
pruning on your. Trees, now with every tree that he,
trims he'll provide a free deep root feeding on that. Tree.
Uh and so that's just kind of a little extra
plus that he's doing right. Now but again seven one
three six nine nine two six sixty, three he's got
a lot of other services he. Offers of, course the
pruning and deep root, feeding but also pest and disease.
Control if you got stumps that need, ground if you
(04:52):
need just basic, consultations he can come out and do.
That and if you're going to do any pre construction
care on your, trees and you should Call martin to
come out and take a look at it and advise
you before anybody shows up to start trenching or laying
slabs or. Anything seven one three six nine nine two
six six three easy as. THAT i have a couple
(05:17):
Of ACTUALLY i got three cypress trees in the place
that we moved into a few years. Ago And i'm telling,
you cypress is a tree THAT i have A i don't,
KNOW i love hate relationship WITH i guess you could, say.
Uh and the REASON i say that IS i love
the cypress. TREE i love the way it. LOOKS i
love the form of. IT i like the wispy foliage
(05:40):
that it. Has it's a beautiful tree and very very.
Tough you, know we think of, cypress we think of,
swamps and, yeah they'll grow in, swamps so put up
with the, soggy wet conditions which we often have around our.
Landscapes but they also do pretty, well when it gets,
dry they you, know you may see them In august or.
Something the little leaves are bronzing and, stuff and it's
(06:03):
like it's going in the fall because of just lack of,
water but it bounces. Back it's very. Resilient like that
THING i don't like about, cypresses the dadgam knees that come,
up and that there are actually types of cypress that
don't produce. Knees and if you're ever going to plant,
one give us a. Call let's talk about, this because
(06:25):
with three in my, YARD i can tell you the
knees are a. Problem lawnmower targets is what they amount. To,
now there's ways to pop those knees up out of
the out of the ground fairly. EASILY a guy taught
me about that years. Ago but, anyway the cypress needs.
Themselves when the soil is saggy, wet especially when there's
(06:45):
poor oxygenation saggi wet soil, conditions the roots will send
up these rising mountains called cypress. Knees and SO i
put in a brand new front and back and sideyard
a couple of years. Ago and WHEN i, did the
first THING i did was go through and get all
the knees out is down to the base as BEST i,
(07:05):
could AND i USED i didn't want. TO i did
three wheelbarrow fulls of knees to get out of that.
Yard now that was some work to put my new yard.
In are the knees coming? Back of course they, Will
that's what cypress. Does but at LEAST i got a
few years of a break BEFORE i start having to
deal with those things. Again but, anyway word of the,
(07:28):
wise give me a call and we can talk about.
It if you are gonna plan a, cypress my, gosh
let me let me direct you to one that doesn't produce.
Knees or maybe your cypress is in an area that
doesn't stay too, wet or just that you don't care
if it has knees or, not or maybe it's by
a pond and you actually love to have those knees come,
up just for the esthetic appearance of. Them let's head
(07:48):
out to our first caller. Today we're going to go
To tomball and talk To. David, Hey, david welcome to Garden.
Speaker 8 (07:54):
Line your morning.
Speaker 9 (07:57):
Slipper, hey you're talking of uh depret seating on a.
Tree i've got a live oak tree that it was
looking bad in certain, spot AND i had a tree
company come out and they looked at, it and his
diagnosis was that the tree looked like it had been
(08:18):
struck by.
Speaker 10 (08:18):
Lightning he felt like it would.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Survived he felt like he would, survive and it had
what he called hardwood wounds that were, healing and he
recommended A the only thing he didn't.
Speaker 10 (08:35):
Recommend was a a deal a theme for the feeder,
roots for the for.
Speaker 11 (08:43):
The, tree and wanted to charge an absorbing price for
a one time. Application And i'm just, thinking, man if
this is a one time, application there's JUST i can't
imagine any chemical that he would put down would be that.
Speaker 10 (08:57):
Expensive and so, okay you, know IF i was.
Speaker 12 (09:04):
If the turrey actually needed a deep root feeding or
for the feeder, root.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
What would that chemical, Be, well it would be. Nutrients
it would be a fertilizer of some. Sort, now you
don't have to deep root feed a. Tree no tree
in any forest gets deep root. Fed the leaves and
things decomposed at the, surface the soil gets built and
(09:29):
the water washes nutrients down and they're. Fine it is
a way to get a quick source of. NUTRIENTS i
don't like the term deep in deep root feeding because
it makes it sound like you're going down a couple
of feet to put, nutrients and the majority of tree
roots are in the top foot of. SOIL i don't
care what the tree, is the majority of the roots
are in the top foot of, soil and so by
(09:50):
deep root, feeding we're basically just just sending a probe
down in the ground a little bit to put the
nutrient down, below not up on the. Surface and so that's.
Fine but you don't have to deeper. Feed you could
do a you, know do some aerration on the, soil
and you could spread a regular fertilizer lawn fertilizer even
(10:11):
around those, roles and the nutrients will wash.
Speaker 12 (10:14):
Down i've already did a week and a half ago
with with n.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
So that should take care of.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
It, okay, yeah that that should take care of. It
and the only thing that doesn't wash down very well is.
Phosphorus BUT i think you'll be all right on. THAT
i can't see your live oak, Tree, david by the,
Way i'm gonna have to run to a. BREAK i
can't see the, tree SO i can't assess WHAT i
think of what the guy told. You but IF i
(10:45):
if we don't need to talk prices on the, air
but if, he if he quoted you a high price on,
IT i would just do it yourself on, that on
that potential. Fertilization all, right thank, you appreciate the. CALL
mm we'll be right. BACK i could save you, Alrighty
(11:11):
welcome back to Garden. Line good to have you with
us this. Morning we were talking about some various things
a while, ago AND i was mentioning that if you
were going to do a treatment for the large patch
or brown, patch now is the time to get it.
Done i'm already seeing circles in my neighborhood and different.
(11:32):
Yards you. Know an interesting Thing i've noticed, though is
yards yards that are not well cared, for pushed along
with fertilizers and, things they have very little brown patch in.
Them and yards that get well, care good. Care they're beautiful.
Lawns the other ones are ugly, lawns but they're the
ones that didn't have the brown patch in. It it's
(11:53):
because brown patch is an opportunist and it likes a
lin that is that is well. Fed so does that
mean don't feed your, Lawn, no of course it. Doesn't
it just means don't overfeed your. Lawn some of these
folks are pushing their lawns going way beyond my schedule
in terms of what they're putting on or how often
they're putting it on and. Things and when you get
extra succulent grass and you get lots of extra, moisture
(12:17):
way more than the grass. Needs and we can't control,
rainfall but we can't control. Irrigation and then you mow
your lawn real, low and then we get a little
coal front in, here drop, temperatures a little bit bron
patch is going to. Occur it's not LIKE i don't
have it in my. Lawn it's that you do have
it in your, lawn it just hasn't appeared. Yet it's
like a rose bush and black spot of. Roses that's
(12:38):
one of the main leaf diseases of. Roses and so
you put a rose bush in your, yard if it's
not a resistant specie or a, variety excuse, me and
you start spraying that foliage all the time with the.
Sprinkler let's say every other day the sprinkler comes, on
and what's the. Foliage you're gonna get black. Spot it's
because where to come from with, there it's just you
(13:01):
created the conditions for. It and that's what happens with
brown patch as. Well so take care of your, lawn
have a nice, lawn but don't do those things that promote,
it like, overwatering like poor, drainage like cutting the lawn
a little bit, low like lots of extra. Nitrogen that's
why our fall fertilization is lower nitrogen and higher. Potassium
(13:23):
and that's why Nit foss and Their texas Three step
is they're creating that. System they chose a. Fertilizer they
created a fertilizer Called Fall Special. Winterizer it's an eight twelve.
Sixteen notice that eight nitrogen is, lower the sixteen potassium
third number is, higher and that's what you want for. Fall,
(13:43):
now they've got three steps to their Whole texas Three
step program in the, fall and that is that, fertilizer
and it also is barricade which prevents weed seeds from coming.
Up and it also Is Nitrofoss eagle turf fungicide which
directly helps fight the brown patch or large patch that's
(14:04):
occurring in your. Lawn you put all three, down just
make three trips across the yard each time putting one
of the three, down AND i would do all three
in one. Day you don't have, to but we're getting
to the point. Now you got to get those things
on if you're going to do, it because the problems
they fight are going to be, here and so if
(14:26):
you wait until, after it's like swinging at a baseball
after the catcher is already holding the pitch, right it's
too late to swing, Then so swing. Now if you're
going to do, This night To Fass texas three step
the Winter riser. Fertilizer the sooner you get it, on
the better the grass can take it. Up the hardier it'll,
get and the stronger it'll come out and spring the
barricade before the weeds, sprout barricade the knight fass eagle
(14:50):
turf fund to side before the circles. APPEAR a brown
circle is going to stay brown all, Winter so why
not prevent. It it's much easier to prevent brown. PATCH
i don't care what product do you use than it
is to try to cure. It there's no really curing
it once it. Attacks now where do you find these?
Speaker 13 (15:06):
Things?
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Where you can find? Them At Lake hardware And, clute
you're going to find them At Fisher's hardware And baytown
and if you go up To Brunham plants And, things
carries Night foss products up, there so that makes it
kind of easy to keep up. WITH i want to
remind you that Today i'm going to be heading out
to the Wild Birds unlimited In, Kingwood. TEXAS i can't
(15:27):
wait to get out. THERE i love that, place a,
great beautiful little, store and you need to come out
if you're in the community and see that. Store if
you come out, today well we have some fun answer
your gardening. Questions you want to bring me some weeds
and bags to, diagnose if you want to, whatever some
photos on the, phone we can do any of that
kind of thing you'd like to. Do BUT i will
(15:49):
be in king With this is the last Time i'll
be anywhere this fall until sometime next spring or late.
Winter so this is At kingwood. Now i'll be there
from twelve until two, thirty twelve thirty to two thirty
out at the Wild Bird's unlimited store In, Kingwood. Texas
so hope you'll come on out for.
Speaker 14 (16:11):
That.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Uh plants fall season is a great. Nursery you, know
those of you who live anywhere in the, region of
plants fall. Seasons you know, it you've been. There it's
a very popular, place and it is because they have great.
Plants they have plants that grow. Here they have great
products for managing pests and whedon, diseases for fertilizing, lawns
for providing soil. Mixes they understand brown stuff before green
(16:35):
stuff THAT i talk about all the. Time and they
also have unbelievably helpful. Advice is the family owned and
operated business since nineteen seventy. THREE i believe it's when
they first kicked it off. THERE i BET i bet.
TOO i Bet Tamaill PARKWAY fm two four. NINE i
bet that was a goat path back in the day
(16:57):
in nineteen seventy. Three when you look at the Way
houston has grown through the. Years but the folks At
plants For All, Seasons True lawn And Garden, Experts plants
For All seasons dot. Com that is the. Website it's
they did some revamping on. It it's a, nice very helpful.
Website if you want to give them a call to
eight one three seven six sixteen forty six two eight
(17:18):
one three seven six one six four six you can
give them a. Call do THAT i have been working
on reorganizing my. Seeds. NOW i don't know if you
are this, way BUT i am a seed collector And
i've got bach just all these plastic containers of. Seeds.
(17:39):
Uh and here's WHAT i. DO I number, one you,
know you buy, seeds buy seed, packets or buy them
by the, bulk, whatever and you use, them but you
don't use them all and so then what are you gonna. Do,
well hopefully you'll store. Them and if you're going to store,
seeds if you if you have a seed packet that
you know you've used some seeds out, of and now
what do you? DO i would recommend putting it in
an air tight storage. Container i've used big old quart,
(18:04):
jars you, know the old mayonnaise jar or canning. Jar
they seal absolutely air. Tight i'll put little packets of
descate in. There you, know when you, buy like if
you buy supplements or vitamins or even, electronics come with
those little packets that help keep the moisture out of the.
Air because moisture doesn't do those things any, good and
(18:27):
nor does it do seeds any. Good So i'll throw
a couple of those seed packets in. There seal it,
up and you got all your seeds. THERE i also collect,
seeds you, Know i'm going down the road AND i
see this plant, that, oh that one's kind of, unusual you,
know it looks looks kind of. Cool and, anyway WHEN
i see that kind of, Thing i'll collect the seeds from.
(18:47):
It but you got a. Storm. Now if you store
them in colder, storage it's. Better. REFRIGERATOR a refrigerator is
adequate for cold storing these. Things but you just need
to get them in. There but they need be, dry fully,
dry and stored and, cold and they last a much
much longer. Time and, boy DO i have a. Refrigerator
they are like two shelves that is full of my.
(19:09):
Seeds AND i also have apparently a very patient wife
as a. Result, well it's time to. Plant falls the
best season to, plant and whether you're transplanting, shrubs woody, vines,
annuals flowers and, vegetables it's time to. Plant And medina
Plus medina plus is fortified with essential. Nutrients it's The
(19:30):
medina the Standard medina soil activator plus forty trace elements
and natural growth hormones from seaweed extract things like magnesium
and iron and zinc and vitamins and all kinds of
stuff are in, there and the stuff. Works Medina. Plus
WHAT i would do and the WAY i do all
My medina liquid products IS i mix them in a
(19:51):
watering can and drench them over the. Plant now you
can use these as folier feeds too if you. Like
But Medina plus excellent product From, medina many products that
have been around for a very long time from the
folks At. Medina it's the stuff, works AND i would recommend.
It AND i also would recommend you go ahead and
get those plants planted. Now you're not going to find
(20:12):
a better time to give your plants a head. Start
so next summer when it's blazing hot and other people's
brand new spring planted plants are struggling to stay, Alive
yours have that extra edge of being fall planted because
all during the fall season roots are settling, in they
are even growing a little bit in the soil, conditions
(20:35):
and your plant will be better. Off and then use
That Medina plus when you, Do we're going to take
a little break for the. Noos we'll be right, back all, right.
Folks if you're running on, Empty i'll wait just a,
minute let's go get you a cup of coffee so
you can get both both eyes. Open how about? That
and we try to play easy music And i'm not
(20:58):
going to blast you With Ennegatta davida or something else
to blow your brain first thing in the, morning but
we'll kick it up here a little bit get some
more upbeat stuff going for. You thanks for listening To.
Guardline by the, way we appreciate having you as. Listeners
we enjoy visiting with you and your gardening questions. Too
if you would like to ask a question seven one
(21:19):
three two one two five eight seven four seven one
three five one two uh no two one two fifty
eight seventy, four feel free to give me a. Call
we've been dealing with some questions on the email this
week and have some folks that'll be calling in later.
Today as we go through, this uh the WAY i
(21:40):
like to do, it first of, all for me to
help you with an accurate. Diagnosis SOMETIMES i can just
hear the question AND i know WHAT i know exactly
what the situation. Is but SOMETIMES i need to see,
things and when people describe things and THEN i picture,
things the reality on the ground and the reality in
my brain are not always the same, thing, Right so
(22:02):
if you send me a, PICTURE i can then for
sure tell you what you got in that. Situation, WELL
i got a weed and it's. Grain, okay that's. Helpful
and it's on the ground and it's kind of down
in the. Grass, Okay So i'm not gonna be able
to help with, that, Right but you send me a
picture of that, weed get up, close up close to
(22:25):
it WHERE i can see in real clarity the. Weed
check your pictures before you send. Them these are tips
for me giving you better. Answers if you send me fuzzy,
PICTURES i give you a fuzzy, answer and that's not
what you. Need you need a, nice, sharp, crisp accurate.
Answer so send me a, good sharp focus. Picture if
(22:45):
you can attach them rather than embed them in the,
text that is much. Better AND i say this all the,
time AND i still half the PICTURES i get are
embedded in the, Text and WHAT i have to do
to get that, picture it's almost LIKE i have to
save it and then reopen, it and it's just harder
(23:05):
to get, to especially When i'm trying to do the radio.
Show but if you will attach, them that is the
little paper clip on your email. Thing you, know a
little paper clip that Means i'm going to attach instead
of paste it into the. Text so there you. Go
if you can do. That that also is. Helpful show
me the whole. Plant in some cases it's. Helpful LIKE
(23:27):
i have a tree and it's losing. Leaves, well back,
up let me see the whole tree and see what
this looks. Like or the leaves all falling off one?
Side is that the older interior leaves that are falling
is you know What i'm, saying is the whole tree
going leafless in all the. Areas that? Helps and then
get up close and show me a pick the problems up,
close what you're. Seeing what do those fallen leaves look?
(23:47):
Like that's the best way that you can help. Yourself
it helps me to help. You so that's WHAT i would.
Recommend if you want to do, that attack some photos
and send.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Them.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Now i'm because of my other horticulture, Pursuit i'm just
not able to type the answers to emails kind of
like pimpals back and. FORTH i just don't have the
time to be able to do. It and so WHAT
i ask is is send the pictures but then call
in on Garden line and we'll talk about it that.
There most of the, TIME i just am not able
(24:19):
to really go back and forth on questions and. Stuff
we've got a lot of, Listeners we've got a lot
of questions that come, in and my time is just too.
Limited IF i try to do, That i'd literally spend
all week just on the computer type and, answers and
So i'm not able to do that with my. Schedule
But i'd be more than happy to help. You but a,
picture a good close up, picture would, help especially a.
(24:42):
Weed sometimes people stand up on you, know they're standing,
upright and they point their phone camera down and take
a picture of the, grass and there's this weed in the,
grass BUT i can't remake it out WHEN i zoom,
in it's all. Pixelated so help me to help you
by maybe pulling the weed out of the grass and
lay it on a, table dark, table and take a
(25:04):
picture of it so it really shows up really. Well all,
right those are some. Tips IF i can help you,
Better i'd like, To and that's the way we do.
It the folks At pierscapes are professionals at making your

Them piercescapes dot com is a. Website two eight one
three seven oh fifty sixty two eight one three seven
oh fifty. Sixty let's head out to lakeside Of states
now and we're going to visit With maureene this. Morning, Hey,
(26:12):
mareene welcome to Garden.
Speaker 14 (26:13):
Line good thank, you good. Morning. Oh about ten years
AGO i had the opportunity to buy a grafted apple,
tree and it was a great deal of fun because
each of the variety would produce just enough apples THAT
i could do one apple, pie SO i didn't have
(26:34):
to run around the neighborhood the leakay of my. Apples
so Since i've just bought a new, ONE i remember
that with the first, ONE i didn't have to worry
about the five hundred hours two hours BECAUSE i just
remember something that it didn't need to be thirty two.
(26:55):
DEGREES i thought it if they were getting forty that
would be. Okay and then the other part was one
DO i need to it's in a pot right, now
which is a fourteen inch? Spot when DO i take
it into the garage to protect. It i'm not going
to put it into the ground. Yet i'm looking for
(27:16):
a good.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Spot so those are the. Peoples apples are. Cold, yeah
apples are, cold, hardy so you don't have to bring them.
Indoors they're, fine you. KNOW i mean if we get
down to seven degrees or, something, well because of the
roots being above ground and, stuff you would that would
be in in a. Pot you might want to bring
it in just because the roots are exposed up above
(27:39):
ground like, That but in, general ninety percent that you
don't have to worry about. That on, apples you do
want varieties that fit your. Zone and we've got folks
listening In, huntsville we've got folks listening down In. Galvestone
so there's a pretty big range. There and so make
sure you get your chill hours right for your. Zone, Now,
(28:00):
marine are you planting a tree that's Been are you
planting a tree that's been multiple? Grafted like you have
more than one variety on the.
Speaker 14 (28:09):
Tree, yes SO i have the main stock or and
THEN i have A Dorset, golden A, fuji a gorden an.
Anna and so the tear gave me lots of, information
told me the zone for each. One it also told
me that two. Hours but the one THING i need
(28:31):
to also ask to add on to that is because it's,
young and they don't tell me when this was. Done
at LEAST i didn't see it quickly on the.
Speaker 15 (28:41):
Labels DO i take off the first in other, words
when it starts blooming and the fruit for other lemons
or whatever whatever it, was you were supposed to not
let them go all the.
Speaker 14 (28:55):
WAY i think you had to take off the fruit
and wait a year or.
Speaker 16 (28:58):
TWO i just don't.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Remember it's, Better, yeah it's better to spend the first
couple of years growing a tree so that you can
put more fruit on. It that that's what you're looking for,
now you, KNOW i know people don't want to wait and,
stuff so you can leave yourself an apple or. Two
(29:20):
the one thing about the varieties that you, Mentioned let's,
see you Said, Anna, Dorset, gordon and what was the other,
One Fuji? Puiji, yeah, okay The, Anna dorset And gordon
are all comparable chill. Hours they're in the three fifty
(29:44):
to four hundred chill hour range somewhere in. There fuji
is about a six, Hundred So fuji may bloom later
than the other. Two and so you'll my only concern
would be does it get? POLLINATED i think it you'll be,
okay but that would be the only thing to kind
of watch. For on those it's a little higher chill.
Variety and you're, right the chilling is not. Freezing chilling
(30:07):
means about forty to forty five degrees being, ideal and
so if it's a little, higher like you, know forty eight,
degrees you get some, chilling but not as. Fast and
if it's down thirty, two you're not getting much. Chilling
maybe a, little but not. Much so it sounds like
you've got everything lined up for. Success my only, again
my only question is will the fuji bloom at a
(30:29):
time when it can get? Pollinated BUT i think you got.
Everything you've done this, before so you know what you're doing.
Speaker 17 (30:36):
WELL i HOPE i.
Speaker 14 (30:37):
DO i normally pretty much follow the directions IF i
heard them AND i have my pen in, hand WHICH
i do right. Now all, right everything else is. Wonderful
i'll just stay on and listen to the rest of.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
You.
Speaker 14 (30:50):
Morning thank.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
You there you.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Go, now you, know on Garden, LINE i don't charge for.
Advice it's, free BUT i do expect a pior to
if you have, success so you take care of. More
thank you very.
Speaker 14 (31:02):

hey it's good to have you with us this. Morning
if you've got a question we can help, with we'll
give me a. Call seven one three two one two
fifty eight seventy four seven one three two one two
(31:26):
five eight seven. FOUR i was talking to somebody the
other day about some, fish you, know pond fit coyfish
and things like, that And Nelson nurser And Water gardens
is just it is the place to go for. That
the selection that they have is. Unmatched if you're looking
(31:48):
for like water, lilies maybe the standard types of water
lilies or the tropical types of water. LILIES i don't
know if standard is the right, way but you, know
the non tropicals and the, tropicals they've got them all
and they've got them and they got the. Ponds if
you anything, water you, know if you love the sound of,
water and if you have a, pulse you love the
sound of. Water it just it is so soothing and.
(32:09):
Easy love, love love to hear. IT i love going To.
Nelson's in, fact just go there and sit and enjoy
the sound of the water that they have. It trust,
ME i put two different features in my landscape BECAUSE
i like that sound so much and it is so
relaxing to. Do just like the, beauty the visual beauty
of your, garden well the sound is also a nice.
(32:32):
Thing now when you go out, there don't think that
you're just going to a water garden. Place Nelson Water
gardens And nursery is a retail garden, center a destination
retail garden center that you will. Enjoy they have some
really amazing selection of. Herbs you know when you when
you go there to buy an, herb you, say, WELL
i want some, basil but you know you're gonna get
(32:54):
there and you're gonna, go, well do you want The
sacred tool sea? Basil do you want The kapoor basil
or kabor? Basil do you want sweet? GENEVIES i, mean
they carry a lot of different kinds of. Basils you're.
Interested maybe in? Mint you want A mahito. Mint do
you want A moroccan, mint a peppermint, chocolate The Ricola swiss.
Mint that it's a, peppermint The Kentucky. Colonel that's a
(33:15):
very common, one a very proven and popular. One and
it's that way with all of their. Herbs but they
don't just have. Herbs check out the new. Houseplants they've
gotten a new shipment of houseplants that is just outstanding
inside the. Building go look at them and see it's
the interior, plants very. Beautiful it's a place to. Go
they know what they're talking. About the advice is. Sound
(33:36):
they're very, friendly very. Hopeful Nelson nursery And Water gardens
On Katie Fort Ben, Road north of The Katie. Freeway
here's the website where you can learn a lot. More
nelsonwatergardens dot. Com Nelson watergardens dot. Com let's go out
now to a. Tescasita we're going to visit a gym this.
Morning Hey, jim welcome to Guarden. Line good.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Morning approximately three and a half weeks, AGO i spread.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
The microlife win a riser and the brown.
Speaker 12 (34:05):
Bag let's get these.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Fungus, okay, yeah and right NOW i bought Some.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Nelson's carbo.
Speaker 12 (34:16):
Load is it too early to spread?
Speaker 3 (34:19):
That?
Speaker 1 (34:20):
OKAY i spread that this. Weekend, well both products are
for the same. Thing so if you used The microlife
already to do The nelson's on top of it is doubling.
Up and we don't want to overdo the fertilization of
nitrogen in this, season SO i would hang on to that.
(34:42):
Now The nelson carbo load is made for, fall that's all,
fine but you can also use it during the growing.
Season there's not a problem with using that during the
growing season if you want to use. It SO i
just would be careful to not overdo because when you
get a lot of nitrogen, available you can have more
problems with the problem with brown patch and things like.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
That, OKAY i would just hang on to is this
time to cut back on watering to twice a week
or yeah we should we, yes it.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Is and here here's the, Thing. Jim if you go
to my lawn care schedule online at gardeningwiskip dot, com
it talks about fertilizing and aerating and mowing and, watering
and the watering is a blue row across and it
gives you each month of the, year what is the
average number of inches your lawn needs per? Week and if,
(35:40):
so if you look In, november it's still about a
half inch per, week and that's on. Average now that
that's in the absence of, rain so you, know we've
had some good rain lately and so for a little
while here we're not going to really need. Water and
by time we get To, december we're not watering at.
All but whenever you water, GYM i would always make
it a once a week, thing if. Possible the more
(36:01):
often you wet, it the more problems you. Have so
a good, soaking but not very.
Speaker 12 (36:06):
Often and that would be a ten minute.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Soaking it would be enough to put about an inch
on the ground or in the case of where we are,
now it would be enough to put about a half
inch onto the. Ground so everybody's system is. DIFFERENT i
stick a rain gauge out there or some straight sided
(36:32):
cans around and that WAY i know Whether i'm getting
an inch or a half inch or. More, Right thank
you very, much and that's, It, Hey, Jim, yeah thanks
for the. Call you take care you as. Well the
folks At greenpro know how to turn a struggling line
(36:53):
into something that is not struggling at. All they do the,
corderation they do the compost top D by the, way
they can also do fertilization for. You if you don't
want to do it, yourself just have them do. It
the core, aeration making the holes in the, ground popping
the plugs, out breathing oxygen down into the root. System
organic matter falls down in there from that compost top,
(37:15):
dressing fertilizers and nutrients get down in. There it just
makes the root system revitalized and it works very. Well.
Now they serve an area in the northwest quadrant Of.
Houston so if you and this is a general, guide
they don't like refuse to cross an. Interstate but if
you look At interstate forty five AND i. Ten The
northwest quadrant is primarily the area that they. Serve here's the,
(37:38):

(39:31):
two fifty eight seventy four, Gong well visit with you
about the things that are of interest to. You don't forget.
That Today i'm going to be At Kingwood Garden. Center
Kingwood Garden center from twelve. Thirty i'm, sorry King, Sorry
kingwood Wild Birds. Unlimited oh my, GOSH i do need.
Coffee all, right we're. Back let's get going. Again we've
(39:55):
got a lot of gardening to talk about today here
on Garden. Line i'm your. Host Skip rick, here and
if you've got a, question all you gotta do is
pick up your phone seven one three two one two
five eight seven four seven one three two one two
fifty eight seventy. Four BEFORE i went to, BREAK i
(40:15):
gave you a confusing announcement as to Where i'm going
to be, today AND i want to clarify that for.
Sure i'm going to be at the Wild Birds unlimited
store In, Kingwood. Texas Wild Birds unlimited In, Kingwood texas
is not my first time to go to that. STORE
i love. It it's a it's a really nice little,
store chalk full of all kinds of things that you.
(40:36):
Need you, know that is so typical of a walk
by the. Way i'll be there from twelve thirty to two,
thirty so grab you a quick lunch and come on.
Over we're gonna have some giveaways. There they're going to
be providing some little packets of seed of some of
their special blends that they're going to be given, Away
so if you show up you can get some of.
THAT i will be. There i'm going to be providing
(40:58):
some samples of The nelson plant food products in the.
Jars now it's a first, come first served. Basis so
the sooner you get, there the better chances you have
of getting one of these. Things BUT i hope you
will come on. OUT i also have my schedules on
hand for those of you who show. Up there are
six Wild birds stores in The Greater houston area Wild
(41:20):
Birds unlimited stores in The Greater houston. Area, now when
you go into a Wild Bird's unlimited, store you're going
to find the best of the, feeders of the bird,
houses of any kind of equipment you want for the,
birds books for the, birds but also the, seeds the bird,
food if you. Will they have the. Blends they do
(41:43):
not fill their blends full of cheap bird seeds that
birds don't. EAT i call them the red. Bebes that's
the majority of most bird seed you buy when you
think you're getting a good, deal is full of those red,
bebies and birds don't care About they kick it off
on the. GROUND i, mean they have to be starving
to want to eat the. Stuff it's better to provide
them with what that kind of bird really likes to.
(42:04):
Eat and so they have different. Blends they have different
blends for different times of the. Year right now we're
doing our winter super. Blend it is extra high in
fat and. Protein that is important winter superb blend right
now from Wild Birds. Unlimited some folks are also putting
out some of the other blends that Wild Birds unlimited stores.
(42:25):
Have you go into your store and talk to. Them
it depends on what you want to bring to your feeder.
Too you, know there's a little thistle type feeders for
certain kinds of birds that just like or especially fond
of eating those types of. Things do you want to
bring in like a blue? Jay do you want to
bring in like a? Cardinal they have A cardinal blend as.
Well it depends on what you're looking, for but they
(42:47):
have all of them there at the six Wild Birds
unlimited stores In. Houston so Today i'm going to be
A kingwood store On Kingwood drive right there in the
middle Of. Kingwood also a store In. Paarland there's one
In houston on Bel, air and there's one on the
west side Of houston On Memorial. Drive there's a store
(43:09):
In cypress On Barker. Cypress there's another Wild Birds unlimited
store in Clear lake On El Dorado. Boulevard you can
go TO wbu dot, com Forward Slash houston and find
The Wildbird's unlimited store near. You as simple as. That
WHAT i would suggest today is come on out to
The kingwood store and see me again twelve thirty to two.
(43:30):
Thirty i'll be out there providing some. Giveaways they're going
to give away some packages samplings of seed that they.
HAVE i think you will be very impressed with the.
Store another reason to go To Wildbirds unlimited stores is the.
Knowledge maybe you're brand new to attracting, birds or maybe
you're having a problem and something's not, working you, know
(43:52):
go talk to. Them they can tell.
Speaker 7 (43:54):
You they.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
KNOW i talk To Wildbirds onlimited store owners all the
time WHEN i have. Questions you, know how long do
the hummingbirds typically stick? Around, well the answer is most
of them have flown the flown the coop on their,
migration but the roof of hummingbirds sometimes hang around through
the cool season, here so keep a feeder out for.
Those see that's an ANSWER i got WHEN i talked
(44:15):
to a Wild Bird's unlimited. Store, anyway it's a great,
place it's fun and, listen holiday season's coming on, us
and that is a really cool gift for someone who
wants to enjoy their backyard and just you, know create
that perfect little setting out. There you need to go
to Wild Birds unlimited for that as. Well you were
(44:36):
listening to Garden line the phone number seven one three
two one two five eight seven four seven one three
two one two five eight seven. FOUR i was talking
earlier about the things we do in the fall for our. Lawn,
WELL i want to tell you something you can do
in the fall or any, time and that is an
application of trace. Minerals and the Product i'm talking about
(44:57):
is as mite as and mite is a crush mineral
product mined ot a utah and it contains about seventy
seven known trace elements and. Minerals so you, know we
have about roughly seventeen nutrients that plants use and forming
the plant and growing and producing and. Whatnot so as
(45:17):
might has all those and more in. It there is
a concept known as the law of. Minimums, okay so
little fun fact. Here the law of minimum states that
whichever nutrient is, limiting that's the extent to which the
plant can. Grow so imagine a, barrel a whiskey, barrel
(45:41):
and you've got the staves going up to the.
Speaker 6 (45:43):
Top.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Right if you were to take a saw and cut
off staves at different. Heights maybe one is three fourths
of the way, up one is two, thirds one is halfway,
up one is one third of the way. Up and
each of those represents a nutrient that the lowest cutoff
stave is as much as the plant can. Grow in other,
(46:05):
words that limited nutrient is how. LIMITED i don't care
if you have lots of, nitrogen lots of, phosphorus lots of.
Potassium if you don't have enough, zinc it's gonna limit.
Growth if you don't have enough iron or, manganese if
you don't have enough of any of those trace, minerals
it's gonna limit. Growth As might provides. That so whenever
you're doing you're, fertilizing don't mix them in the same,
(46:26):
container our same. Hopper just go ahead and do your.
Fertilizing come, back load up on as might and do the.
Might you can do it anytime of the, year it
is not certain, times like our nitrogen applications are anytime
of the. Year but the main thing is just do.
It we're gonna go now out to See Austin county
and talk To. Steven Hello, Stephen welcome to Garden.
Speaker 12 (46:47):
Line hello mister skipp got a turf management question for,
you and uh without all, right you too much. Detail,
basically WHAT i have is a lot of compaction in my.
Soil that's the same the pure sand. Soil and we've
had a lot of construction work and stuff around our
house and, all and it's resulted in severe. Compaction, unfortunately
(47:09):
BEFORE i recognized, THAT i had already done my fall
application of the fall, fertilization the barricade and the eagle,
yes and THEN i, realized you, KNOW i really should
have rated that and put down some, compost mult, leaf,
mold molt or whatever BEFORE i did, This BUT i
did it. Backwards HAVE i HAVE i limited my ability
(47:33):
to do?
Speaker 1 (47:33):
That, no not really you. Have it's up to. You
you could go ahead and do the aeration and compost
stop dressing still now h or you could wait and
once wait until we get through the initial green up
period in the. Spring if you, wait wait past that
and once we g the grass is actively, GROWING i
(47:55):
would say sometime in later In. April or may go
ahead and do the aerration and compost top dressing then as.
Well either one is. Fine just know this that you
put down the. Barricade so now when you air, rate
you're gonna have some soil exposed that doesn't have the
barricade protection on, it and you might get some spots
(48:16):
where weed seeds are popping through because you break broken
the barricade barrier a little. Bit but that's not what that.
Was that was my exact question right. There, yeah, well
it's a small. Thing but more important than that is
getting your lawn strong and. Healthy so if it were,
ME i think i'd wait and go ahead and do
(48:38):
the aerration in the spring late. Spring but you could
do it. NOW i wouldn't debate that at. All that's just,
fine all, right.
Speaker 12 (48:48):
Sir but but but aerrating it and then coming back
with barricades again is not an.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Option do not do. That don't double. Up, okay that
will cause.
Speaker 12 (48:58):
Problems, yeah, okay, okay, Okay SO i got.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
You thank, You, thanks Thanks. Steven All, right we got
to run to break. Here we'll be right back with
a call From bill In galveston And brian In. Avinesota all, right,
folks welcome. Back good to have you back with. Us
you're listening To Garden. Line i'm your, Host Skip, richter
(49:21):
and we're here to help you have. Success the WAY
i like to put it is a beautiful, garden a bountiful,
garden a beautiful, landscape or fun in the. Process that's
all part of WHAT i would call success in the.
Garden the Arbor gate in Tom, Ball texas legendary. Place
people all over the place know about. It WHEN i
say all over the, PLACE i mean way outside of,
(49:42):
town driving in from long distances to come to the
Arbor gate because of what they. Offer there just an outstanding.
Place you. Know they recently Had Chris weisinger From Southern
Boat company come and, speak And chris is. Outstanding he's
an author and he just does a great. Jo he
has collected bulbs from Across texas across The south that
(50:04):
live in old homesteads with no. Care, so in other,
words you can grow them without failing when you use
these kinds of, bulbs And arbrogate just stocked up on
them and they have so many different kinds of bulbs
that he's brought in really quality. Bulbs so rather than
(50:25):
spending money on tulips and hyacinth and crocus and one
shot wonders and then you got to do it again next,
year why not plant something that once you plant it
you get blooming. Returns blooming dividends on what you've. Planted
that's what we're talking. About and you can get them At.
Arbrogate while you're At, arbrogate you need to check out
some of their other. Stuff they got a lot of cool.
(50:45):
Stuff fall is for ornamental. Grasses it's the prettiest time
of the year for ornamental. GRASSES i was driving somewhere
just the other day and looking at The Gulf mulei
with the beautiful ruby colored adds as the sun comes
through the the what we would call a seedhead up
on top of just so. Beautiful but all the ornamental,
grasses they've got them there At. Arbrogate other fall blooming
(51:08):
plants are there At. Arburgate make sure when you're there
pick up their organic Food complete feeds anything with, roots
a soil, Complete organic Soil complete for any application that you.
Have it's got expanded shale in it as. Well arburgate
understands that importance of a dealing with these heavy clay
soils and. Shale and then the organic Compost. Complete The
(51:29):
organic Soil complete and The organic Compos complete both contain
expanded shale and both are available in bulk if you
would like to get them by the, yarc just Call.
Arburgate they'll take care of, you make sure that that.
Happens arbrogate's a mile and a half west of two
forty nine on twenty nine to twenty out there In,
tomball and today would be a good day to go
and visit. Them let's head A Nauta galveston and we
(51:52):
are going to visit With bill this. Morning, Hey, bill
welcome to Garden. Line, Okay i'm gonna Put bill back on,
hold get my producer to check into, that And i'm
gonna go To i'll come back To. Bill we're gonna
(52:13):
go To brian In. Avinesota, Hey, brian welcome to Garden.
Speaker 6 (52:16):
Line Hey, Skip, hey question Is i'm having trouble getting
some lower petche them. Established and it occurred to me maybe,
okay because it's in full. SUN i, MEAN i Know
i've seen them, Growing i'm getting them started is a different.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Story, Perhaps, Okay well they they should they should, Do
okay in full? Sun uh tell me what what are the?
Symptoms how what does it look like as your as
it's after? Planting what's it?
Speaker 6 (52:48):
Doing gradually drop their leaves over the course of about,
okay six, months they, don't you know they, okay they
don't really.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Wilt.
Speaker 6 (53:00):
UH i definitely have you, know put in a good
mix of soil in. There, uh you, know so they're
they're in uh soil.
Speaker 10 (53:11):
Attitudes.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
Okay as far as good, drainage, yeah, yeah good drainage is.
Important you're not seeing any yellowing on the new, growth
the ends ends of the shoots there, leaves aren't.
Speaker 12 (53:25):
We also the?
Speaker 6 (53:27):
Same i'm not really seeing any new. Growth AND i
have you, know a couple in a different area of
the law of like in the front, yard they're.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Doing, fine.
Speaker 6 (53:36):
So they get the same.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
Care, well so my question Is i'm saying the same
amount of.
Speaker 6 (53:41):
Sun very shade cloths.
Speaker 1 (53:47):
Say that last few.
Speaker 6 (53:48):
Words i'm, sorry go, AHEAD.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
I missed what you're contemplating.
Speaker 6 (53:58):
Putting shade cloth over them for like a?
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Year, okay, okay that shouldn't be. Necessary if is the
one in the front in less sun than the ones
that you're having trouble. With THOUGH i lost, him we
had a drop. Call i'm gonna keep talking so if
(54:23):
you can hear. Me Brian Loura pedlum likes good, drainage
but adequately moist. Soil if you can create a forest
environment by adding a lot of compost into the soil
and then keeping them adequately. Moist they don't want to
be in soggy, conditions but they don't want to dry out,
(54:45):
Either and when you plan a new, plant it takes
a while for the cylinder of roots that came out
of the pot to get established in the soil where
it has some resiliency during that, time keeping that cylinder
of roots moist is, tricky and a specially in hot,
weather it's very. Tricky so you gotta keep it adequately
moist without drowning. It and after they've been in for
(55:08):
about a, year then they're gonna have much more of
a root, system AND i think do better for. You
so that would be the only THING i can think
of to add to what we. Said is that a good,
soaking but making sure that you do it often, enough because,
again if that plant had a root, system you could
water once every week or two and it would be just,
(55:31):
fine and even in the absence of. Rain but in
the garden, center you, know in that little, pot they're
watering them every. Day you put them in the ground
and nothing. Changes the root system is still essentially in
that little pot in terms of shape and the. Expansion
so a little more frequent WATERING i would plant now.
Too by the, way anything you want to plant shrub
(55:52):
wise now helps do what we just talked. About if
they were in a root bound, condition where roots are
circling around in the, pot it's important to cut those
roots before you put a plant in the ground because
that will help fresh new roots to come, out and
it establishes better than what we call root, bound which
is a water roots all circling around and waded up
(56:15):
in the pot that doesn't establish well at. All so
those are the last few tips THAT i would suggest
for you, There bill Or. Brian, also in an episode Of,
area you got a lot of clay. Soils yours may
be different than, that but there are a lot of.
Clay the pH is a little, higher And Laura peddlum
sometimes struggles as a pH goes up a little. Bit
(56:36):
so acidifying fertilizers are generally a good idea for Your laura,
pedalums especially in soils such as you may have. There
let's go now To galveston and talk To. Bill, Hey,
Bill welcome To Garden. Line, Hi, schip good Morning.
Speaker 13 (56:50):
Chip we talked to a month and a half ago
ago so about root ride my, lawn and you told
me to go ahead to apply my, barricade AS i,
did AND i applied the, fertilighter WHICH i did in
the entire long and THEN i put on the The
scott's DISEASEY x in the end and put LIQUID i
(57:14):
and put and put the peed boss over. It, now
IF i, read you're oh well sheets. Correctly, correctly you
said that you're supposed to be repeated in about a
month or.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
So is that? Correct, Well, uh the DISEASEY x we
typically do twice on my. Schedule, uh you, KNOW i
show it In october and Then november because those are
the primary months that we would get it. DONE i
think if you have not done it, already Just november
(57:43):
is okay for. Now if you've already done, it a
second time is. Recommended and then if you look in the,
spring we'll do a third one of the disease E
x on. It but the peat moss you should only do,
PROBABLY i would say each year in the fall, Season
i've put it on it every month of the. Year
it's not going to hurt to put it on it other,
(58:03):
months but we seem to get the most benefit out
of it coming either coming out of spring.
Speaker 14 (58:10):
Or in the.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
Fall so what does the peat moss actually do the
pete Moss and that's a good. Question i've asked a
turf of pathologists that question and not gotten great. Answers
we think it's because it's. Acidifying it sits there on the,
runners around the runners and makes them a less habitable
(58:31):
place for that disease to. Occur pete must does not
offer nutrients or anything to the. Ground it basically is
just a somewhat acidifying thing you. Need when you put
the pete, down you ought to water it in, too
because you want it to kind of settle in around the.
Runners and that's that's what we, do and we do see.
(58:52):
Benefits i've had a number Of guardline listeners that have
done it and send me pictures of how well it.
Helped just, know pete moss isn't a. Fungicide it's not
going to kill the disease and make it all go.
Away your goal right now is to keep the patient.
Healthy which you read my information on gardening with skip dot,
com so you know What i'm talking. About and the
iron is just because without a root, system you're gonna
(59:15):
get yellowing because of lack of iron and iron. Folier
feeding is just a supplement to get the patient along
until we get it healthy.
Speaker 13 (59:23):
Again, well DO i rake up the pete mass BEFORE
i do the second? Application or DO i just put
it on?
Speaker 1 (59:31):
Top, no not at, All, Bill i'm five seconds away
from a. BREAK i. Can't You just hang on And
i'll come back to.
Speaker 16 (59:38):
You there you.
Speaker 1 (59:41):
Go that's a power.
Speaker 18 (59:46):
All.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
Right welcome back to the garden, line. Folks good to
have you with. Us, Hey Nae Fas Texas street. Step
it is. Time it is. Time it is. Time i've
been telling you last call. Here we got to get this.
Done and the reason is everything we're doing in the
three step is done in a prepared preparatory preparatory getting
(01:00:08):
ready or avoiding a heading off. Way here's WHAT i
mean getting. Ready Night fossphall Special. Winniser get the nutrient
in the ground so the plant can take it, up
so the grass will be hardier in the winter and
come out stronger in the. Spring that's. It night to
Fass fall Special. WINNERIZER a twelve sixteen second step at
(01:00:30):
the three. Step this is preventive night of us. Barricade
a weed seed tries to, germinate barricade says you can't make,
roots and the weed seed dies and you never see
the weed. Seed that's barricade, preventative doesn't kill existing, weeds prevents.
Weeds number, three night of Us egle turf fungicide is.
Preventative you put it down the roots of the grass,
(01:00:53):
plant take up night of Us egle turf fungicide and
it goes into the system of the. Plant so when
a disease tries to attack the brown patch specifically is
the one we mainly are dealing, with but it'll work
on other diseases as. Well, uh it can't because the
plant has been. Protected so all three need to get.
Done do, one two, three same day three applications and
(01:01:15):
then water them all in with a half inch of
water because they all need to go into the ground
to do what they. Do where do you find that
fast products bearings hardware And bissonet enchanted forest And richmond
And langham creek case hardware on your copperfield In? Cyprus
those are three examples of places that carry the night
foss texas three. Step we're going to go back to the. Phones,
(01:01:36):
now let's see. HERE i believe we're talking With Bill
stillt And. Galveston Bill sorrey had to go a quick break.
There how can where were we probably left?
Speaker 13 (01:01:44):
Off, Okay, well we were talking about doing the second
application of the disease ex and my question, WAS i
DO i rake up the passes already there BEFORE i do,
that or go to just put it on top of?
Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
It, now leave the peat, moss leave the, old and
put on the new if you want. To oh, No i'm,
sorry you're you're talking about the DISEASEY x just is
getting watered, In so it'll water through the, Peat it'll
dissolve and go through the peat moss and go down
into the. Soil it takes about a half inch of
water to do. That, Okay now one other questions for.
Speaker 13 (01:02:24):
YOU i purchased A, Laredo texas sage and it says
in the SPRINGTIME i was supposed to fertilize. It what
kind of fertilizer shall put on?
Speaker 8 (01:02:33):
It?
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Uh you know there's a lot of companies that will
make a tree and drub. FERTILIZER i know that Night
fross Does nelson does you? Know but then there's the
fertilizers that are just for your, lawn and those are
fine for. Shrubs so then you've got again The nelson
Knit fross. Microlife the folks IN medinai even have stuff for.
(01:02:56):
That just just take a fertilizer and apply. It if
you're going to do a GRAND i would say probably
a cup or a spread around the. Plant if it's
an organic, GRANULAR i would make it two or three
cups all the way around the plant and then watered.
In really, well don't just put a ring of, it
but make a, big evenly spread throughout a circular. Area
(01:03:19):
that's ALL i.
Speaker 13 (01:03:19):
Needed thank you so, much thank, you.
Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
Well good, luck you take. Care thanks for thanks for.
Calling let's go to we're going to talk To phyllis
and Dan.
Speaker 16 (01:03:29):
Berry.
Speaker 1 (01:03:30):
Now, Hello, phillis welcome to Garden.
Speaker 12 (01:03:32):
Line good, Morning thank.
Speaker 7 (01:03:34):
YOU i talked to you about two months ago about
my lemon bush and the leaves turned black and it
had those little white, spots and you told me to
pick up the product and spray it, in WHICH i,
did but it was kind of too far gone as
far the whole thing turned black, eventually but we did
get some fruit off off the lemon.
Speaker 6 (01:03:56):
Tree two.
Speaker 7 (01:03:58):
Questions is the fruit good enough to? JUICE i mean
it did have.
Speaker 12 (01:04:02):
Some black es on on the.
Speaker 7 (01:04:05):
RINDS i did clean them up and they look.
Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Okay.
Speaker 19 (01:04:10):
Yeah number, one are they safe?
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Them, okay they're, Safe they're. Fine no problem with.
Speaker 14 (01:04:16):
That oh.
Speaker 7 (01:04:18):
Good the second thing is my husband just wants to
hack that thing, down And i'm telling, them, NO i don't.
Speaker 12 (01:04:23):
Think that's the right thing to, do because it is it's.
Speaker 7 (01:04:26):
Beautiful do we just cut off those branches that have
all those black leaves to start fresh.
Speaker 6 (01:04:33):
Or because it's the new growth is?
Speaker 7 (01:04:35):
Green But i'm not too SURE i killed all those
little mites or whatever the heck they?
Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
Are, Okay well NOW i, know but PLESS i gotta tell.
You first of, all the gardening advice is. Free marriage
advice costs three hundred dollars an. Hour so WHAT i
would do is you two get together and, y'all y'all
decide to leave that tree. Alone don't cut everything. Off that's,
fine let the new growth come. Out it's an unfortunate
(01:05:02):
time for the plant to be trying to put out new.
Growth because is this in a container or in the.
GROUND i missed. That if you said, it so it's
in the.
Speaker 7 (01:05:10):
Ground it's in the.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
GROUND i, mean, well sure gave.
Speaker 10 (01:05:14):
Me beautiful, lemons.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
So, yeah so get ready to cover it up this
winter because that's. Succulent new growth is not going to
have even less winter heartiness than the lemon itself. Does
but leave it all, alone don't proNT. It let the
new growth come and the next spring if you need
to do some trimming around to shape it like you,
want you can go ahead and do.
Speaker 8 (01:05:34):
That.
Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
Then, okay, okay that's WHAT i wanted to.
Speaker 8 (01:05:38):
KNOW i just wasn't sure WHETHER i should little market poor.
Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
Thing, yeah NOW i wouldn't. That all that'll do is
promote new growth less winter, hardiness and it's unnecessary at
this POINT i. WOULD i, would, however in the, spring
get ready to jump on the leaf. PROBLEMS i can't recall,
specifically you're calling what we talked about, Out but WHATEVER
i told you to, do then do it again in the,
(01:06:02):
spring because whether it's scale or white flies or aphids
or mealey or, whatever you need to stay on that
and don't let it do to your lemon what it
did this. Year so catch it, early, okay, okay, okay thank.
You good appreciate your.
Speaker 12 (01:06:19):
Call thank, You bye.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Bye there you. Go Intended Forest Great Garden center down

right we are going to now go To madisonville and
talk To danny this. Morning Hey, danny welcome to Garden.
Speaker 20 (01:08:55):
Line how you, doing, yes, sir how you doing? Good
WHAT i have is me and my wife trimmed back
are magnolia. Tree it was getting it was sprawling the
limbs or fall on the ground way. Out we trimmed
it about three foot high and raked up under.
Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
It now we're.
Speaker 12 (01:09:14):
On off the roots like hundreds of, them AND i
don't know can we do back feel over it with
soil or trim them cut them all down then bink
feel over with what's the best thing to?
Speaker 14 (01:09:26):
Do?
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Well when you cut it back like? That do you
still have green growth on the original? Trunk is there
still leaves and things on the original? Up? Okay?
Speaker 16 (01:09:38):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
UH i would just, YEAH i would cut off those
suckers down as low as you can to where they're coming.
Out and then there's a product called sucker, stopper, uh
and it and you dab. It, well some of it's
in a spray, form some of it comes in a little,
(01:09:59):
bottle the little brush And i'll stick and then you
brush it on. THERE i use the little foam brushes
from paint, stores you, know the little wooden handle poham,
brush the tiniest. One just dab that in there and
dab it on the fresh cut wound right away when
you make, it and it will prevent. Resuckering you may
get some after a while that come back out, again
(01:10:20):
but that's the way to stop all these suckers and
stop more from constantly.
Speaker 12 (01:10:24):
Happening, yeah yet normal for them to grow off the root.
System that's where they're. Coming they're coming off the root
system way.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Out, No, yeah that's not. Normal but you cut the
heck out of that thing when you cut it back that,
far so the plant trying to survive just started sending
out buds and. Stuff you may be seeing some seedlings
coming up under the, tree that's, possible but the fact
that it all happened right after you cut the top
(01:10:52):
back makes me think maybe they are. Suckers but either,
way dab in that sucker stopper on there will be, fine,
okay shucker. Stoppers thank.
Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
YOU i appreciate program.
Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
You, bet thank you appreciate appreciate your call very. Much good,
luck with getting to the bottom of That microlife fertilizers

To microlifefertilizer dot com find out more about the other
excellent products that they. Offer let's go TO westu now
we're going to it With charlie this. Morning Hey, charlie
welcome to Garden.
Speaker 16 (01:12:02):
Line good. Morning oh could you tell me please about
care For asian jasmine of specifically moulting and fertilizer and
trimming anything else that might need the, most especially.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Yeah asian. Jasmine, yeah it'll grow in some, shade but
it likes sun and the things that drive growth and,
vigor And asian jasmine and other plants as, well or
adequate sunlight and adequate. Nutrition AND i would just use
a lawn type fertilizer and just spread it out in
there and water it in the same you would do
if you're fertilizing your lawn watered in though after you apply,
(01:12:41):
it and that that is the best thing you can
do to get it. Going and then during hot weather
when we're not getting rainfall like we want dry hot,
spells a good deep soaking on a very infrequent basis
will help prevent die back or stress on the jasmine
and again maintain that vigor that you're hoping to. Get
(01:13:02):
but you got to have some sunlight to have. Vigor
no matter if you water and, fertilize if you don't have,
sunlight you're not going to get good vigor on Your Saint.
Augustine I'm Saint augustine on Your asian.
Speaker 16 (01:13:12):
Jasmine it's under a big tree that's doing good so,
far but, Hopefully.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Yeah it is shade. Tolerant, yeah it is shade. TOLERANT
i just see people try to grow them under like
a live oak tree, especially you just never get sunlight
because the live oakoye has. Leaves and but if it's
getting adequate light intensity to look okay right, now then you're.
Okay don't worry about just giving a little, fertilizer not too,
much and then.
Speaker 16 (01:13:39):
Water yeah this is this is under a live. Oat
but we've had the live oat thinned out each. Year
maybe that's what's helping.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
It, YEAH i bet it. Is, well good luck with.
Speaker 16 (01:13:52):
That on the, most they don't have to mostly at. All.
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
NO i, mean you, know if the jasmine is thin
enough to where sunlight's hitting the, soil you can throw
some mulch in there around it and help prevent weed
problems from sprouting up under. There but in general we
don't have to worry about mulching jasmine because it forms
a nice thick. Cover all, Right, charlie appreciate your call very. Much, yeah,
(01:14:22):
yeah it shades itself all, Right thank. You appreciate. That
short after run, today, Guys i'm just having to keep moving.
HERE i want TO i do want to mention. SOMETHING
a giant in our nursery industry passed away recently Here
october thirty, First John ferguson From Nature's Way resources passed.

a kind human. Being just he's a wonderful person to.
Know he loved. People his life was service basically long long.

Why Nature's ways Called Nature's. Way john. Was he was
(01:15:29):

As john. Did he was a lover of. Knowledge he
never quit. Learning and then he took what he had
and he had a passion to share it with. PEOPLE
i mean many of you have Heard john, speak probably many.
Times thousands of people were touched By john's. LIFE a
(01:15:54):
humongous loss for The houston, area certainly for the organic,
community the gardening. World john was part of Founding Oba
Organic Horticulture Benefits alliance been around almost twenty five years,

carry on the same, tradition same quality. Products you, know
so many things that we just sort of assume. Today
we're born At nature's. Way rose, soil the importance of,
rosa the importance of leaf, mold, compost and how to use.
(01:17:24):
That nature Taught john how to do. That And john

Boy let's go out To West houston now and talk To. Marie, Hello,
marie welcome to Garden. Line.
Speaker 21 (01:20:20):
Hi, THANKS i appreciate you taking a QUESTION i had
about a five and a half Foot japanese. Maple we
have an organic yard and garden and The japanese maple
was planted by a professional established landscaping company about three years. Ago,
recently approximately a quarter of an inch around the periphery
(01:20:42):
of the leaves has turned brown AND i can't figure
out is it too much, water not enough?
Speaker 4 (01:20:49):
Water or DO i need?
Speaker 21 (01:20:51):
Fertilizer and if, so what type would you? Recommend thank
you all, Right.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Marie so the problem is water is This japanese? Maple
how much sun is it?
Speaker 21 (01:21:04):
In how many hours in the, mountains probably about seven
hours but it has partial shade from a large tree
that blocks a bit of the.
Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
Sun, okay good, Well japanese, Maples we're in a very
warm climate for, them and you can grow them. Here
they do fine, here but in this warm climate gets
a little on the dry. Side the soil, does or
if it's in quite a bit of, sun which means
the demands to pump water fast or. Greater we often
(01:21:36):
see the tips of the leaves turned, brown and that
that is just a thing that can. Happen you could
create that problem as well by overdoing a salt based
fertilizer and burning, roots BUT i don't think that Is
that would take a lot to do, that AND i
don't think you're doing. That but that's the only other
(01:21:57):
thing that would cause the symptoms you're. Describing but it
is quite. Common we have to deal with. It it's
just one of the things on The japanese. Maples so
try to keep the soil as evenly moist as you
can during the warm, season the hottest part of the,
season especially which is summer even into early. Fall to
(01:22:17):
minimize that, problem put a good mulch on the surface
of the ground to hold in moisture and moderate root,
temperatures AND i think YOU'LL i think your plant will
look a lot better next.
Speaker 18 (01:22:27):
Year.

somehow it didn't help with my delivery. Today talking To
randall at Pest. Bros the other day and We're i'm
about to have him come out and do some termite
treatments around my. House they do, that by the, way
AND i like this system they. Use it's a ten
year treatment and they dig a little trench around the.
House they put the termite treatment in the, trench and
(01:31:08):
any termites that try to go through the soil to
get to your house or, whatever they. Can't they can't
get there because this shuts them. Down and it's just
like Pest. Bros to know how to do things. Effectively
they also know how to do things in the safest,
manner so you get those long term results you want without.
Worries this is also a good time to have them
come out by the way and check your house for
(01:31:32):
where varmints can get. In those creatures that go bump
in the night up in the. Attic they can shut that.
Down they know how to look for, them they know
where to. Look they'll show you what they're looking for
and how to find. It you may not even think
that's a place where a rat or mice get. In
it is and they can fix. It dpestbros Dot com
two eight one two o six forty six seventy two
(01:31:55):
eight one two o six forty six. SEVENTY i kind of, thought,
well we don't need mosquito buckets, anymore AND i let mine.
Lapse and, BOY i have a daughter visiting and she
went outside and had over a dozen mosquito bites attacked.
HER i felt, drible AND i went and, checked and,
(01:32:16):
yeah you'd get them back out to work on the,
buckets because those things have to be kept. Up but
when you, do it is. Amazing when you, don't you
realize why you should have mosquito. Buckets they really work. Well,
normally you, know we get late in the, season cools,
off mosquitoes drop off a little. Bit, boy this year
(01:32:38):
they have hung on And i'm still dealing with them
out at the. Place But i'm telling, you WHEN i
had those buckets going full, force you get a mosquito
here in. THERE i, mean they're not like a. Nuke
the yard eradicate. Everything but if you keep them up to,
date and Pest. Bros will do that for. You they

tell you. Again it's the three things we need to
do for our. Lawn in the. Fall it's the perfect
storm of. Fall we need to fertilize with a fall.
(01:35:36):
Fertilizer it's Called Nitrofoss Fall Special Winter. Riser we need
to prevent weeds with a product Called barricade From. Nitroposs
it goes in the, ground we try to. Sprout they
can't succeed in making, plants and they die and you
never see. Them much easier to prevent a weed than
it is to kill an existing, weed endless damage to
(01:35:56):
your lawn as. Well and then the third is The
eagle turf funge just side for the brown. Patch it goes,
down goes in the, roots goes in the, plant and
it's like having an antibiotic and you're going through your.
Blood you, know it's fighting. Diseases it would attack. You
that's What eagle turfundicide does as. Well you're gonna find
Night fosh products at A bearingshardware On. Bessinette you're going
(01:36:17):
to find them at A court hardware In, stafford at
Auspas ace in The woodlands AND Rcw nursery. Carries Night
fash products are ON i two forty nine at Beout way.
Eight easy to find. Them the main thing is remember
everything is, timely and all those three products and The
Texas street step need to be watered. In that's WHY
i would say put all three down at one time
(01:36:39):
and then waterman one so you don't have the water
in three. Times about a half inch of water will
move them in the soil where they do what they're
going to. Do time for a break will be right. Back,
hey welcome back to your guard. Line good to have
you back with. Us we have some openings on the
phone here if you would like to get in and
(01:37:02):
not have to wait unless everybody else calls at the same,
time that would be a good time to do. That you,
know the folks At Heirloom, soils they take time to
make quality soil products of all kinds of. Types by the,
way and you know heirloom soils, there there's so many
of them And i've worked my way through almost all
(01:37:25):
of the different products that they. Carry i'm especially fond
of the veggie and herb mix for any kind of
raised bed, garden including veggie herb you can do for
a a raised flower bed as. Well they've got a
landscape bed mixed. Specifically they also have a fruit berry
and citrus. Mix they have The works which is their potting.
Soil they also have A cactus And succulent, soil very, grainy, gritty,
(01:37:46):
grainy extra good. Drainage they have A rose And bloomers
blend all kinds of flowering plants that would be good
in your flower beds or as you're planting roses and
other blooming. Shrubs and then they have things that help
with the, soil the clay, soil maintaining good soil, structure
and that would be things like expended, shale expended shale
(01:38:09):
and compost. Mix and they also offer bags of leaf
more composts the top dressing over your, lawn or you
could just use leaf mole compost in any kind of
planting bed as composts too works great for that as.
Well you can go pick up the products At importer
if you've got a truck or. Trailer you can call
them and have them deliver them to, you or you
can go to your local garden, centers feed, stores hardware
(01:38:31):
stores and where many of these airloom products are available
by the. Bag either way you go about, it just
go about. It fall is the time to. Plant always
build a soil before you. Plant check out heirloom soils
and you'll find those kinds of products that work. Well
AND i say THAT i know they work well BECAUSE
(01:38:52):
i have used them AND i continue to use their.
Products i'm always testing out WHEN i have sponsors on
and they've got. Products in, Fact i've got one right
now That i'm testing out and checking before we take
them on as a. SPONSOR i got to know this
stuff is going to. Work that is important to. Me
and SO i mean you hear me talk about groups
(01:39:13):
and products and different things, services things like. That in
almost all CASES i have tried them myself or see
research of their evidence that the products do. Work BECAUSE
i don't want to steer you wrong on that kind of.

Know Ice hardware stores another one you hear me talk
about that just carry so many things that really make
the place look. Cool you, know maybe you're decorating For
thanksgiving and you want a beautiful, basket you, know a
(01:41:26):
metal it could be a standing basket or a hanging
basket made of metal that's planted with fall. Flowers you,
know everybody's been decorating with pumpkins for some time, now
but there's a lot of other fall. Decorations pretty soon
we'll be getting in to The christmas, season decorations that
you see all out and, about and our garden centers
keep you covered with, awesome awesome products and. Options AND
(01:41:50):
i hope you will consider that we're going to be
getting busy as people are visiting during these. Holidays coming,
up and now would be a good time to get
all those plants. Done at, least get the salt prepared right,
now get compost mixed and the, soil get good quality
bed mixes in the. Soil get you a mulch and
put it on the. Surface winter weeds are. Sprouting they are,
(01:42:12):
sprouting and you need to have a mulch because if
sunlight doesn't hit the, soil the weed doesn't have a
chance to get. Started you, know low weed, seeds any
kind of seed has a little store of energy in
that seed to help it sprout and push up a
shoot into. Sunlight the sunlight takes over and feeds the
plant from there right not if you've got a mulch
(01:42:35):
on the, ground it blocks. It and we avoid weed
seed establishment by putting down a good thick layer of
mulch and maintaining. It multch goes, away it continues to.
Decompose that's how nature, works and it builds the soil
as it does. It but always keep about a three
inch thickness of mults on the surface of the. Soil
(01:42:56):
if you have a very chunky, mault it needs to
be a little. Thicker if you have a very fine
textured Mult it can be a little bit. Thinner but
to do the job of blocking the sunlight out of the,
soil now's the. Time get that. Done save yourself weeding.
Later protect that. Soil if you got tender perennials that
may or may not survive through a good hard, freeze
well a little bit mulch over the base once we
(01:43:17):
have a freeze and kind of kills them back and.
Everything just a little bit of a protected mult over to.
Protect we call it the crown of the. Planet it's
a base of the planet where the shoots and the
roots come together for tender. Perennials that works pretty. Good
those of you listening further north than the listening, area
you know things Like duranta our golden. Showers that is
(01:43:40):
a semi tender perennial up. There the yellow bells is
a perennial that typically is dependable coming out of the,
base but a little protection over it wouldn't hurt anything
as you move up in that northern part of the
listening area. Too pard Of, barbados red bird Of paradise
sometimes it's called Say so in The Carama that one
(01:44:02):
is one that usually survives but on a cold spell
may not survive in a winter time and a little
mulch over the base can kind of help. That let's
add out To katie now and we are going to
talk To katie And. Katie is that?
Speaker 10 (01:44:17):
Right?
Speaker 8 (01:44:19):
Hi can you hear?
Speaker 3 (01:44:20):
Me?
Speaker 10 (01:44:21):
Hi Yeski Hi.
Speaker 1 (01:44:24):
Hi welcome to Garden.
Speaker 22 (01:44:25):
Line hi am long term.
Speaker 19 (01:44:28):
LISTENER i really appreciate your, show AND i really like your.
Voice to, you by the, way skib it's really, calming
which goes well with the gardening.
Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
Team, okay, well thank. YOU i Paid katie twenty dollars
to say, that, FOLKS.
Speaker 19 (01:44:45):
I wait for the for the check in the. Mail,
ANYWAY i HAVE i sent you a couple of. Pictures
i've been struggling with the front law front land, beds
AND i have plenty of multiple shrubs and most recent
beings for on or, azaleas and there's always something like
the same, faith so they have to plant it for
(01:45:06):
over a year. Now one out of four looks. Great
either one of them just turns completely. Brown the other
two looks like they're about to be the same faith
of dyeing and it gets it's like a whole branch
would like completely dye like a branch at the, time
AND i just wanted to know if what AM i doing,
Wrong like DO i need to do something different, to.
Speaker 8 (01:45:28):
You, know for the next.
Speaker 19 (01:45:29):
PLANT i don't know that can save any of.
Speaker 1 (01:45:30):
These but, yeah judging from the other plants in your,
picture they all seem fairly. HAPPY i don't see the
problem happening to other. Plants is that? Accurate, seeing, right that's?
Speaker 19 (01:45:43):
Accurate, YEAH i have a a idea and shrimp plants
and they're all doing.
Speaker 1 (01:45:48):
Well, Yeah so it's it's a root, Problem, katie AND
i don't know exactly which. One it is certainly dry
conditions azalias or less drop tolerant than the other plants
you have, there so their little root system it's just
not as, extensive and if it gets a little, dry
(01:46:08):
they suffer more than other. Plants so it could be
a lack of water because it's ried up against the
house under the eaves and. THINGS i don't think it's,
that but it could. Be it also could be excessive.
Water that is a flat, area and so it doesn't
look like water drains off the surface really. Readily so
if it stays too, wet some of them have a
(01:46:29):
little water sprinkler head not too far from them it
stays soggy, wet then you can get root rots that
lead to that same kind of. Problem so it's in the.
Soil it may be disease, related but if disease, related
it may be also because of saggy wet conditions for
periods of. Time that's the best GUESS i can make
(01:46:50):
just looking at the tops of the. Plants but dig
down with your with a trial about four inches into
the soil and feel the soil and if it's up and,
wet that's a. Problem if it is on the dry,
side that's a. Problem so maybe maybe that's what's wrong
with those azaleas right.
Speaker 19 (01:47:09):
There, okay it's a quick. Question so if but if
it's a moisture you, know water moisture, problem DO i
just continue to raise.
Speaker 20 (01:47:20):
That bed or what WOULD i?
Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
Do Just, well that would require digging. Up, yeah it
would require digging up the soil and resetting all the,
plants which this is the season to do, it if
you're going to do. That but that's quite a. Job.
Uh you, know you still have some space on your
foundation where if you brought the soil up just a,
LITTLE i would leave it at the same level at the,
(01:47:43):
foundation but then allow the soil to rise up and
crest on the bed and use a very, nice uh
quality composty soil to give it that forest floor and,
thing and so that that would be it for those.
Areas the only other thing would be to put them somewhere,
(01:48:04):
else maybe where you would would build a raised bed
and enjoy them.
Speaker 13 (01:48:08):
There uh.
Speaker 1 (01:48:10):
That those are your options as far AS i see,
it And i'm gonna have To i'm gonna have to.
Run i've kind of shot past a little break, Here,
katie but good, luck good luck getting that back in.
Order but it is something in the. Soil, alrighty, Folks
i'm gonna have to go to break And i'll be right. Back,
(01:48:30):
hey welcome to Guard, line. Folks good to have you with.
Us it's time to color up that. Landscape you don't
have beautiful. Flowers you want to have color around the winter.
Season there's no reason winter needs to be, drabbed especially
here in. Area it's one of the benefits of living
this far south in the. Country we just have lots
(01:48:51):
of good color. Options and one plant that just doesn't
get planted enough is. Cyclemen cyclemen are so. BEAUTIFUL i love.
Them they the first of, all the lee are kind
of a dark blue green and silvery. SPLOTCHING i think it's.
Attractive the flowers a lot of the. Types if you
look at, them they almost look like falling, stars where
(01:49:11):
it's like the center of the flower is low and
the petals are pointing upward as if you, KNOW i don't,
know meteor was falling down out of the. Sky beautiful red,
colors pink, colors white. Colors it's it's an attractive. Plant
we had a planet. More they do good in the bright.
Shade by the, way they need to when you water,
(01:49:32):
them try to water them at the base instead of
keeping those leaves and, wet and the water runs down
the crown of the plant kind of and keeps it.
Wet you can get some rotten, that but if you've
got a good raised flower bed that drains, well cyclemen
do super super. WELL i was just. Looking Warren Southern
gardens has a nice selection of cyclemen out. There they're In,
Kingwood Warren Southern gardens In Kingwood Garden. Center both of
(01:49:56):
them are out there In kingwood and they're, excellent excellent.
GARDENS i find that Anytime i'm out, there whatever the
plants of the, season you, know whether it's cool, season
color or, vegetables, herbs you name. It they're going to
have them out there by the. Way warrens is On
North Park, Drive Kingwo Garden centers On Stone Hollow, drive
both of them seven days a, week and they do
(01:50:17):
have their cyclemen and a lot of other. Things but
consider planting cyclomen this year in your beds underneath a
live oak tree where there's some bright. Shade the super super.
Well you can put them in a little morning sun
but not too much afternoon, sun and they'll do real
well for. You we just don't see enough of. Them
see plenty of, pansies which is a great. Flower cycleman
(01:50:39):
ought to be planted. More let's go To galveston and
talk To. Blue, Hey, Blue welcome to garden, Line Hie.
Speaker 3 (01:50:47):
SKIP i have A miyer lemon tree which is about
five years. Old it's grown to the height of about
twenty feet and for the first time this, Year i've
seen tree, lemons specifically at the top of the. Tree my,
brother he has A myer lemon tree which is no
(01:51:08):
more than four maybe five feet at, best and he
has a bountiful of lemons And i'm just, wondering DID
i let this go too far in terms of growth
BECAUSE i was told by a master GARDENER i should
have cut it down and kept it at a specific.
Speaker 8 (01:51:29):
Height some time.
Speaker 17 (01:51:30):
Ago SO i can't figure WHY i have such a
such a massive lemon tree with three, lemons AND i
CAN'T i don't know WHAT i did wrong or what is.
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
Wrong, yeah did you have blooms all over the tree
and only lemons said on? Top or did you not
have blooms all over the?
Speaker 4 (01:51:54):
TREE i did have blooms all, Over.
Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
Okay why did the only ones set on? TOP i don't.
Know that's a good. Question for lemons to be, productive
they need good sunlight like any fruiting tree, does and
then they need have blooms all. Over and as far as,
pollination you don't have to have two varieties or anything like.
That SO i don't know that is a good. Question,
(01:52:20):
now plants et, CRUs especially when they get, stressed they
will abort their. Fruit you can have Little english pea
sized lemons falling off and on the ground and stuff
because the sun stress causes them to. Abort could be drought,
stress could be something. Else that's a. Possibility other than.
THAT i don't know why they're just lemons on. Top
(01:52:42):
my first thought was that they're not getting enough, sunlight
and therefore the lemons that the parts that get the
most suns set the fruit bloom and set the fruit.
Best but you're saying you have blooms all through the,
Tree SO i don't. Know but bringing them down and
controlling that tree size and shape will help you balance
(01:53:03):
out the fruiting as opposed to upper parts of the
tree shading out lower and interior parts of the, tree
which is typically what happens when citrus gets overgrown like.
Speaker 3 (01:53:11):
That, well on top of, that the idea That i'm
gonna need a heck of a step ladder to get
up there to get those three.
Speaker 1 (01:53:20):
Lemons yeah just turned.
Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
Yellow, actually, yeah twenty feet up in the, air you, Know.
Speaker 1 (01:53:25):
Yeah, YEAH i know that's. True, well don't do any pruning.
Now you don't want them to try to grow at
this point in the. Season but once we get past
all the freezers and, frost you might want to do
some pretty severe pruning and bring that tree down a
little bit. More it'll resprout with a ton of shoots
and you'll have to select from all those, resprouts you,
(01:53:47):
know to kind of reguide and form a smaller. Tree just,
remember with all that succulent new, growth next, year after you,
prune you're gonna have a lot of citrus leaf, minor
so you need to spray the new regrowth with one
of the two organic. Products one of them is spendosid
and the other one it's an. Op you don't have
to use both one or the other is as a
(01:54:08):
direct and it's a type of, name but not an nem.
Oil but you can call back and we can talk
about that if you want to when that time. Comes thank, you.
Speaker 6 (01:54:18):
SKIPPER i appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
All, right thank you for the. Call appreciate that very.

winter WHEN i start appearances. Again so this would be
a good time to get your questions. Answered you can
bring me. Samples if you got any kind of bugs
or leaves or weeds or, whatever put them in a plastic.

we're glad to have you. Back let's, uh let's do.
This let's start off With bill And. Conroe, Hey, bill
welcome to Garden.
Speaker 12 (01:56:11):
Line good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:56:13):
SHIP a couple of.
Speaker 4 (01:56:14):
Questions, warning pretty. Straightforward i've got a. Selvia it's a
heat wave breeze, selvia and it's grown to four feet.
High when SHOULD i pun it? Back i've read different
things doing it like, fall and Then i've also heard
wait until just for.
Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
Spring mm. Hmm, well if you do it and, fall
we have some warm spells that'll try to re, sprout
and so GENERALLY i would say wait until the end of.
Winter cut it back, then, uh and and it'll come
out all fresh again without the danger of a late.
Freeze so so wait not don't do? It, no, okay very.
Speaker 4 (01:56:56):
Good and THEN i have two things that have been
growing great here in, summer late, Summer dinka And. Marygold
are they going to die? Off pull them up now
and put something else in there for the winter or
will they survive this?
Speaker 1 (01:57:10):
Thing? Yeah, yeah if you don't leave, them if they're looking,
good still lead until the first frost and then put
something in their. Place if you want to go ahead
and get started on a cool season color on color,
plants then you. Could you could pull them. Now that's
kind of up to.
Speaker 16 (01:57:25):
You, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:57:29):
If you pull them, now you'll really get the others. Started,
YEAH i know that's the.
Speaker 14 (01:57:34):
Deal.
Speaker 4 (01:57:35):
CYCLEMAN i love cyclemen, too And i've got a great
place for. Them if you have any other suggestions for
winter color, besides AND i love, snapdragon SO i got
to do some of.
Speaker 1 (01:57:43):
Them but, YEAH i like to USE i like to
Use Dusty. Miller it's a silvery plant that's just for the.
Foliage but around the cycleman with the spotsy leaves of
the cycleman and the, red pink and white colors Of
Dusty miller looks really. Good Dusty miller also looks, GOOD
i think with violas and pansies that are. Blue my
(01:58:07):
preferences Of viola's over the. Pansies but you take a
nice light blue of viola and put it With Dusty,
miller it's a really attractive. Combination of, course you mixed
colors is however you. Want, uh but those are those
are pretty. Good dianthus is one of my favorite cool
season color. Plants those they just look.
Speaker 4 (01:58:25):
Good, okay so he's, good you Said dusty.
Speaker 1 (01:58:32):
M I L L E. R, yeah, Yeah, miller like
the man's. Name. UH i would just just google it
and check it. Out just it's a silvery foliage and
you're growing it for the silvery. Foliage so things that
look good with silver look good With Dusty. Miller you'll
get you'll get an idea What i'm talking about all,
(01:58:54):
Right thank, you appreciate. That appreciate that very. Much we're
trying to keep moving. Here we're gonna go To Mount
bellevue now and talk To. Steve, Hey, Steve welcome to Garden.
Lady thank, you.
Speaker 23 (01:59:06):
SIR i have a question regarding a shrub And i'm
gonna put her probably the botanical name The calacarpa, dakatoma
the variety of hurry. Anthus, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:59:19):
Is That?
Speaker 23 (01:59:20):
OKAY i used to live in The seattle area and
it's quite beautiful, there AND i NOTICED i just looked
at uh and it said that it actually would grow
in our, gronson that it takes a lot of. Heat
BUT i kind of questioned that what is your thought on?
Speaker 1 (01:59:36):
That, Well calacarpa is beauty. Berry that's that's the name
for it, here and it's native down in the, south
the forests of The, south so it does very well.
Speaker 16 (01:59:50):
Here.
Speaker 1 (01:59:51):
Uh the what was the what was the variety that you?
Speaker 23 (01:59:57):
Earlier it's a purple, yeah very almost looks like grape.
Clusters it's really.
Speaker 1 (02:00:03):
Beautiful, yeah, yeah it. Is it is beautiful and most
klicarpas are in a kind of a ruby to burgundy
colored clusters of. Fruit. Uh the blooms are you don't
even hardly notice, them but the fruit is what's. Attractive
there are white blooming forms or white fruiting floorm forms
(02:00:26):
Of klicarpa as.
Speaker 23 (02:00:27):
Well, right BUT i really like that early amethis that's
WHAT i need to. Do so it would grow here
and it would take to heat my house basis the
west AND i was thinking maybe in the fray. Ar
but my concern again is that extreme heat in the.
Speaker 1 (02:00:44):
Summertime, yeah it can take the heat just. Fine. Generally, klicarpa,
though is a understory. Plant you see it where there
are trees above it shading. It i've seen it in full.
SUN i don't think it's as attractive when you try
(02:01:06):
to push it into too much. Sun it prefers to
be somewhat. Shaded NOT i don't mean deep. Shade it
needs deep. SHADE i just mean that it does require,
yeah just just it just requires something like. That so,
anyway but, yeah it's a great, plant great native.
Speaker 8 (02:01:24):
Plan, OKAY i will look for.
Speaker 20 (02:01:27):
It thank you very, much.
Speaker 1 (02:01:29):
You, bet you, Bet thanks for the. Call you take.
Care all, right let's see. HERE i try to get
one more in. Here before we go to break uh

Speaker 1 (02:01:52):
Weed that's if that is an evil weed in the
it is called slender. Aster slender aster now everyone some years?
Speaker 6 (02:02:08):

Speaker 10 (02:02:13):

Speaker 1 (02:02:15):
If you're On, facebook, yeah for those people, listening if
you're On, facebook go check out Our Guardline facebook. PAGE
i just posted about. IT i believe it is. Yesterday
but every one of those, flowers and there's a bunch of,
them can have like fifty seeds in. It and so
what you've done in that plant in the picture is
what you need to do with all of. Them that's
(02:02:35):
pull them. Up it's too late to spray for, it too,
late it won't. Work you, there the soil is, moist
you can grab it and pull them. Up oh, lord
you so happy about? That, well, listen so about about
a hell it might have been a month.
Speaker 6 (02:02:55):
Ago NOW i put the the uh pre emergent now
and so NOW i got new.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
Flowers on this on the Slender. Aster, YEAH i put
the the barricade. Down, okay so the. Preno, yeah all,
Right so so ted, ted here's here's the. Deal you
got to the barricade stopped weed seeds that are going
(02:03:24):
to come up this fall and do their blooming and
stuff next. Spring it stopped. Them it didn't kill existing.
Plants and this plant's been around since late spring early.
Summer you just haven't noticed it because it hadn't achieved
the size and started blooming yet so that it. Would
barricade would do nothing on an existing. Plant so, anyway
(02:03:47):
if you wanted to use barricade for something like, this
you would be applying it, PROBABLY i would, say on this,
one probably in Late, march Early, april maybe Early. April, okay,
okay all right, Sir we're gonna pull some. Weeds, okay thank.
Speaker 14 (02:04:06):
You.
Speaker 1 (02:04:08):
Yep here here's WHAT i. DO i get my coffee
and it to go mug so when it falls over
it doesn't. SPILL i get a kneeling bench and a
and a, bucket five gallon, bucket AND i just start
working my way across the yard like you're painting the,
house just pulling up the. Weeds it's actually gratifying to see,
(02:04:29):
ACCOMPLISHMENTS i, know it's no fun getting out there on
hands and. Knees but, anyway that's that's your, Option thank, you.

Charles welcome To garden.
Speaker 8 (02:06:54):
Line good, Morning. SKIP i enjoy your. Program i've learned
a lot listening to. IT i sent you a couple
of pictures of a cactus PLANT i.
Speaker 1 (02:07:05):
Have, yes uh, HUH i see. That how CAN i
help you with?
Speaker 8 (02:07:12):
That, well what's going? On is it something to worry?
About is that just a bloom that's going to have or.
Speaker 13 (02:07:21):
Is that that is a?
Speaker 1 (02:07:23):
Bloom, no not a. Problem it's a good. Thing that,
plant by the, way is actually not a. Cactus it's
called a. Howarthia. Howarthia it's more related to like aloes
and agaves and things like that than they're just what
we would normally think of as a. Cactus it's an
excellent little indoor, plant very, beautiful and it is sending
(02:07:45):
up a. Bloom it'll have little white flowers on. It
nothing to write home, about but kind of cool to
have that tall flower. Spike so that's a good.
Speaker 8 (02:07:53):
Thing so it means it's a happy.
Speaker 1 (02:07:57):
Plant it means it's A it means it's a happy. Plant,
uh be careful on watering. Them let them completely dry
out before you water. Them don't keep them constantly sopping,
wet or they'll rot on. You it's a very good
tough plant that it. Needs it needs a moderate amount of,
(02:08:17):
light which you've got it by a, window and you've
also got a nice little light over. It so that's all.
Good it's gonna be happy. There but, yeah all good.
News you. Know an a fun fact another name for that,
plant and if you look at the leaves it makes.
Sense it's called fairy. Washboard it looks like a little
tiny washboard that fairies would. Use so, anyway there's a
(02:08:40):
fun fact for.
Speaker 8 (02:08:40):
You all, Right, WELL i thank. You so now after it,
blooms it's gonna bloom and there'd be some flowers and
THEN i cut that off after the flowers begin to,
fade or.
Speaker 1 (02:08:54):
Yeah you can just cut it back off at the.
Base that plant will probably produce little side, plants which
we call, pups like a young dog a, pup and
it's just like a little baby plant coming off the
base of the mother. Plant after they get a little
size on, them you can go in there kind of
pull it up and cut them away and create new
(02:09:14):
plants to give away or to use yourself. Somewhere but
let them kind of get, going but kind of watch for.
THAT i think it'll it'll multiply for you very. Slowly
it's a slow moving. Plant but it's a nice easy.
Speaker 22 (02:09:26):
One right.
Speaker 8 (02:09:28):
Now it looks like it's. Healthy BUT i hadn't had.
That it is tall.
Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
Before, yeah, no it is. Healthy how long have you had?
Speaker 8 (02:09:38):
It probably a year or? So to hate?
Speaker 1 (02:09:42):
You, yeah, well well it's happy to be at your.
House if you look at the young the lower, leaves
they are smaller and the new leaves since it's been
at your house or big and lush and. Happy so
you're doing the right. Thing just enjoy. IT i might
have to run to another, call BUT i shit you
calling calling in? Today you take? Care, alrighty alrighty There,
(02:10:06):
Hey microlife, products so many good products out. THERE i
talk about the the you, know the brown, patch the
one for the lawns this time of. Year BUT i
also want to talk About Microlife biomatrix orange. Label it
is a seven to one to three. LIQUID i use
it myself for all my. HOUSEPLANTS i got a good
boost of, nitrogen which you need for house plants because
(02:10:27):
they're basically foliage. Plants. Uh and it's not going to
burn your, plants not salt. Based and it. WORKS i
can tell you that because it's WHAT i Use Microlife.
Biomatrix the orange label comes into, cork comes in a.
Gallon either way you, Go your plants are going to be.
Happy you can go To Microlife fertilizer dot com if
you want to find out more about the, many, many
(02:10:48):
Many microlife products out there on the, market both granulars and.
Liquids let's go now out To Crystal beach and we're
going to talk To. Andy. Hey, Andy, hello thank.
Speaker 22 (02:11:01):
You so much for taking my. PALL i have a
lovely climbing roast bush that has been inundated with these.
VINES i had to be away this past spring and
they've just taken over my beautiful roast. Bush is there
any poison THAT i could buy that would kill these
vines without killing my?
Speaker 1 (02:11:21):
Roses there's a technique you can. Use let. Me let's
first of, all can you describe the leaves of the.
Vines do the vines have? Thorns and what are the leaves?
Speaker 22 (02:11:34):
Like the leaves are, pointy AND i see them coming.
Speaker 21 (02:11:38):
Up out of my yard in the.
Speaker 22 (02:11:40):
Grass they're a kind of an orangey. Red and then
they have clusters of leaves that are, oh probably the
south of a small.
Speaker 14 (02:11:54):
Yes and they're just just.
Speaker 1 (02:11:56):
Everywhere, Yeah AND i think what you have is called
pepper vine and it does sucker out into the yard
and other. Things the way you're gonna want to kill
it is to go to the base of the. Vine
this is gonna be a kind of a hens and knees.
Deal but you buy a product that has the ingredient triclop.
Pier do you have a pen and paper? HANDY i, do,
(02:12:21):
okay T R i c L o p Y. R,
now the brand names. Vary you may it may be
called poison ivy killer or brush killer or something like,
that but it's triclop P. Here you get your little
foam brush like the the little brushes at the paint
store that are on a little wooden, stick the little
(02:12:41):
tiny skinny, one and you're gonna dip it into the
triclop pure. Straight you don't need an add, water and
then paint the bottom of that vine like like two
or three inches near the. Ground paint up and down
on that vine and it will translocate down into the.
Vine and if you put a little bit of vegetable
oil uh, on you, know with it on the, brush
(02:13:05):
you it'll stick. Better but it's not. Required. Uh the,
alternative if the vines are getting, bigger you can cut them,
off or you can slice maybe down the side at
an angle so you have more of a cut surface
to work. With and if you paint it on the cut,
surface it gets in even. Better but if you do,
that it'll translocate. Down you're gonna have to do this
(02:13:26):
periodically for a while because that's got a lot of underground,
storage and so when you do, it it's going to die. Back.
Uh and and then just stay with it wherever it comes.
Up paint that tricleo pere on. It do not get
the triclo pere on your rose bush on a. Stem
so that's why we use t R i c L
(02:13:47):
o p WY. R, yes.
Speaker 22 (02:13:54):
That's something THAT i could just look.
Speaker 1 (02:13:56):
For, yes have you ever been to my website no
Gardening gardening with skip dot? Com write that down gardening
with skipping dot. Com on the, WEBSITE i have a
publication that's a list of. Herbicides and if you go

it'll say triclup here and then over to the side
it'll be a list of all the. Brands so that's
that's the fastest way and get you. There you, Bet
i'm gonna have to, run but thank you and good
luck getting to the bottom of that. Vine let's see.

with a call From adolph In. Menville all, right welcome
back To, guardline. Folks good to have you with. Us,
listen it is planting. Season i've been telling you that
not SINCE i guess sometime In october follows the best planning.
(02:16:47):
Season if you're gonna put a plant in the, GROUND
i want to tell you a product that you really
need to have in, use and that Is Nelson's Genesis Transplant.
Mix it's part of the Nutri star. Line it's a
low jar and it's got the dark colored fertilizer granules in.
It Nelson, Genesis it's got. It they have microizin and
bacteria and fungi that helped that soul. Microbiome of, course
(02:17:10):
they have the nutrients that you. Need and when you
put it in the, ground like if you're going to,
plant you would dig a. Hole normally we don't put
fertilizer in the planting. Hole but you just put Some
genesis in, there mix it in with the, soil set
the plant on, it finish filling it, up or mix
it with the soil you are filling in around the.
Plant that's another. Option, uh and then watered in really
(02:17:31):
well and that gets it off to a good. Start
i've used it. MYSELF i don't care if you're putting you,
know maybe a broccoli transplant in the. Garden do that
if you're if you've got a plant and a container
and you're going to move it to a larger, container
mix the genesis into the soil that you're going to
put in to fill in around you know the current root.
System it. Works it is excellence easy to Find nelson
(02:17:55):
genesis for. Transplanting any time of the year you're going
to transplant, plants it should be in the soil that
your your plant is going. Into that's how that. Works
nelson genisip from the polk folks At. Nelson we're going
to head out now To adolf And. Menville Hey, adolf
welcome to Garden. Line good Morning.
Speaker 18 (02:18:15):
Skip my daughter is asking me whether it's a good
time to plant, grass you know the, squares AND i
told her, yes BUT i wanted to run it by
you at this time of.
Speaker 1 (02:18:27):
Year. Yeah, yeah we're fur enough south where you're located
there where you can get away with planting.
Speaker 14 (02:18:34):
It.
Speaker 1 (02:18:35):
Uh if if you've got a bunch of bear, DIRT
i would go ahead and put the put the grass
down and water it. In just know this that as
we week by, week as we move forward from, here
those grass plants roots systems are not growing, much and
so you can keep the grass alive with. Watering but
my preference would be to wait until. Spring uh and
(02:18:56):
and when when the grass is active, growing probably you,
Know april would be a great time to start with your. Sodding,
OKAY i would wait until, then but if there's a
reason why you got to cover that ground, up go.
Ahead just know that you're going to have to take
good care of it over winter because it it'll grow a,
(02:19:18):
little but very very slowly in the winter. Time as
far as getting established and.
Speaker 18 (02:19:23):
Rooted, yeah her comment was that if it's not a good,
time you, know she doesn't want to spend the money
and lose.
Speaker 1 (02:19:33):
It, yeah SO i GUESS i would just tell her
to wait till. Spring it'll be Much spring is such
a good time ate off because number, one the demands are.
Low you, know in, summertime we're watering the grass a
new laid grass side twice a day, lightly just to
(02:19:53):
keep it alive for that first. Week and and and In,
april you won't have near the pressure on the. Grass you,
know where you're you're having its touch and, Go so
make it. Easier i'd tell, her make it easier on
yourself and do it In. April, okay, great thank you very.
MUCH i appreciate. It you, bet thanks for the. Call
(02:20:15):
appreciate that very. MUCH Rcw. Nurseries they've got this great
sale going on right. NOW i was telling you about
it early on, TODAY rcw number. One it's just a
great place to. GO i always love to go, there
and they carry the products that you need to go
along with the things that you are. Planting you, know
(02:20:35):
products From, Nitrofoss, Microlife, nelson Turf, star a lot of
those kinds of. Lines but right now they got some
heck of a sales going on As elias And. Commite
it's fifteen percent. Off you want a flower for the, wintertime,
camellia that's. It two different kinds of, communities plant one of,
each so you got flowers From december Through. February that'll
(02:20:56):
do it. Great myrtle trees thirty percent, off mettle, benches
arbors the excuse, me metal arbors and various kinds of metal.
Benches and yard. Art they got some cool yard art
thirty percent, off and citris streets forty percent. Off my,
goodness if you do nothing but take that tree inside
the garage during cold weather and put it back out
(02:21:17):
and then plant it in the. Spring you can do,
that or you can plant it. Now r C W
nurseres corner Of Tomball, parkway which Is highway to forty
nine and Belt wait eight And. Tomball they're Open monday
Through saturday eight to five And sunday from ten am
to five. PM Rcw nurseries dot. Com go check them.
Out let's head out to Spring now and talk To. Patty, Hello,
(02:21:41):
patty welcome to Garden. Line good.
Speaker 24 (02:21:44):
Morning my question IS i, have, uh well maybe a
year In march THAT i planted twenty four boxwood little
bitty boxwood across the front of my. House and we're
going to have to have our foundation worked them. Again
and so the first time they did, IT i lost
(02:22:04):
every plant across the front of my. House and so
now they're.
Speaker 6 (02:22:09):
Coming back to do.
Speaker 24 (02:22:10):
It CAN i dig these up and put them in
pots to save them until they're, finished or BECAUSE i
know they're going to trash them.
Speaker 18 (02:22:17):
Again you can Do.
Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
You can do a couple of. Things, okay you said
you planted them in.
Speaker 24 (02:22:23):
The, spring plan and be a year and be a
year In.
Speaker 1 (02:22:28):
March, okay so two. Things you can try potting them,
up but in doing that you're gonna lose a whole
lot of that root. System if if you have a
spot where they could go and be put on, Hold
let's say there's an area you know where you could
(02:22:48):
put them down and set them on top of a
garden bed or a long a fence or, something and
you would dig them and get as much of the,
roots slide them onto a tarp and then drag the
tarp over. There that gets you the most roots. Possible
and it's almost no work to drag them on a
tarp as opposed to trying to pick them up and move.
Them uh the spot and water how big is? Tiny like,
(02:23:17):
oh heck a gallon? FISH i mean, okay well then,
okay well then then it'll be easy to. DO i
would take them to that, spot set them all on
the ground on top of the ground in that, spot
and bring a little bit of you, know, uh saw,
mix like a bed, mix like a rose bed mix or,
(02:23:37):
something put around them and, stuff and then mulch them
really good and water them and they will sit on hold.
There it's better if it's not in full, sun but
if it's in full, sun that's still. Okay you just
keep them moist during the winter and then in spring
you move them back or whenever they're done with this foundation.
Speaker 24 (02:23:57):
Work, okay BECAUSE i have a spot where.
Speaker 8 (02:24:03):
BECAUSE i have a vegetable.
Speaker 24 (02:24:04):
Garden AND i don't have anything in it right, now
and it's really really good. Dirt So i'm going to
dig them, up put them on a, tarp slide them
to this, spot put them in, there and then put
some good dirt and mault around. THEM i don't have
to dig a hole and plant them or, anything, right.
Speaker 1 (02:24:20):
You don't have. TO i mean you. Can i'm just
trying to make it easy on. You but if you
if you put you could if you bought a brand new,
boxwood if you bought a box wood and you brought it,
home you could set it on the ground and bring
bed mix and put it around, it and you'd have
a raised bed with boxwood in.
Speaker 18 (02:24:35):
It.
Speaker 1 (02:24:36):
Uh so that's What i'm trying to make it easy for. You,
hey that's why you know you get some of your.
Vegetable maybe you want to use veggie and or mix
then on one of those. Products, uh but we're just moving.
Them we're getting as much of the roots as we.
Can if they're that, small maybe you don't need the
tarp to drag them. Around you set them in a.
Wheelbarrow but. Whatever but that's that's what you. Do and
(02:24:57):
you want to do it on a on a cloud
or a day when there's not a lot of, demand
it's a little cooler. Day get them moved over. There
but always remember watermen really good with some soil around,
them and then put a mulch on, top and then
they'll hold for you there until you're ready to put them, back.
Speaker 24 (02:25:15):
Okay and when they get, okay so when they get all,
FINISHED i need to wait until spring to do, it
or CAN i go ahead and do it right?
Speaker 1 (02:25:22):
Away, oh you can do it in the winter if
you want.
Speaker 24 (02:25:25):
To, okay all, right sounds, Good thank you so.
Speaker 1 (02:25:29):
Much, okay all, right you beat good luck with. That
there you. Go, hey it's a good time for a.
Break why don't we do that and we'll be right.
Speaker 10 (02:25:37):
Back, yeah, ALRIGHT.
Speaker 1 (02:25:41):
