lot of work to do, that is Vice President elect JD.
Vant As. We are one week away from Donald Trump
retaking the oath of office as president.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
I'll always be an optimist about our country, but I
think that that optimism has to start with a bit
of realism. And the real truth is that Joe Biden
has left us a dumpster fire. Donald Trump is going
to have to put it out, but he's good at
doing that.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Vance on Fox's Sunday morning, futures and Trump will start
putting those fires out on day one, telling Republican senators
he's preparing more than one hundred executive orders, a shock
and awe campaign that said President Joe Biden still has
a week left to do more damage and issue more
pardons if he wants to.
Speaker 7 (02:21):
Have you ruled out a partner for yourself or any
other additional members of the family.
Speaker 8 (02:25):
For myself, Yes, sir, what want I pardon myself for?
Speaker 5 (02:29):
I remember Joe said he wouldn't pardon his son Hunter either.
He will make his farewell speech from the Oval Office
on Wednesday night, and that, by the way, is scheduled
for seven o'clock our time, five oh two on KTRH.
Several wildfires continued to burn in Los Angeles this morning,
as the death toll has risen to at least twenty four.
Speaker 9 (02:50):
Fire crews in Los Angeles are scrambling to contain deadly
wildfires as Santa Ana wins intensify. A fire warning remains
in effect across the region until Wednesday. Winds could gust
up to fifty miles per hour along the coast, and
as high as seventy miles per hour in the mountains.
Officials warn these conditions could spark new fires and threaten
the progress already made.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
That is Mary Anne Rafferty reporting a team of Houston
area firefighters is going to California to help fight the blazes.
The group will deploy for at least fourteen days. While
home owners here might be wondering about the insurance consequences
of all this, For instance, will the Texas Windstorm Insurance
Association have enough to get through a major disaster, for instance,
(03:36):
a Cat five hurricane.
Speaker 10 (03:37):
There's already concerns about twea's cash reserves after Hurricane Barrel.
Speaker 11 (03:41):
TWEA in the fall tried to get the State of
Texas to allow them to increase premiums by ten percent
because they knew they had a short fall already.
Speaker 10 (03:49):
Insurance expert Ron Snowferd told KTH there is somewhat of
a backup plan in case TWEA goes broke.
Speaker 12 (03:54):
Well.
Speaker 11 (03:55):
Last time that something like this happened, the State of
Texas told them naked still bond come up with the
reserves that they needed.
Speaker 10 (04:02):
Snowfferd did warn, however, that that wasn't a viable long
term solution and it might not be long before coastal
homeowners can't get insurance at all. Ethan Buchanan News Radio
seven forty KTRH.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Thank you, Ethan. It is now five to zero four.
The legislative system begins in Austin tomorrow and the State
Ethics Commission they get involved in the fight over speaker.
State Representative Cody Harris has filed a complaint against the
Texas GOP because there, he says, threatening to punish members
who don't support speaker nominee David Cook. Brandon Waltons with
(04:34):
Texas Scorecard says this is a big move.
Speaker 12 (04:37):
Essentially, you have Courty Hares trying to put the Republican
Party in Texas chairman in jail because he is trying
to ensure the Republicans during the speaker vote vote for
the Republican candidate and don't work with Democrats.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Meantime, the state Republican Party says they have the right
to set rules for their members. Meantime, Governor Greg Gabbott
has ordered DPS to strengthen anti terrorism ANTHETS efforts following
the New Year's attack in New Orleans.
Speaker 13 (05:04):
And it was Todd Benzman who started the Anti Terrorism
division at the DPS.
Speaker 14 (05:10):
Texas has a lot of intelligence horsepower. People don't really
realize that a lot of information, a lot of material,
a lot of personnel.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
So what are they doing to fight terrorism?
Speaker 14 (05:21):
To work more closely with the FBI extra manpower to
the whole counter terrorism effort in Texas.
Speaker 8 (05:27):

make sure the event is secure.
Speaker 15 (05:50):
You will see some enhanced resources in various areas the GRB.
Speaker 8 (05:57):
You will certainly see a more visual presence there.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
There will be nearly thirty five thousand runners plus thousands
more spectating throughout the city. Five oh six, the NFL
saw a two point two percent ratings drop from twenty
twenty three to twenty twenty four.
Speaker 16 (06:13):
So many people will cut the cable and ESPN did
clock in as the biggest loser of the year. The
NFL lost a very small amount really over last year,
but it's still lost. You can peg a lot of
it to ESPN's you know, fall from Grace.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Right Bart's Warner Todd. Houston says ESPN's politics has gotten
in the way of what they're supposed to do, which
has produced sporting events. The Texans play the Chiefs next
Saturday in the divisional round of the playoffs. That game
is set for three point thirty in the afternoon in
Kansas City, and the thirty two to twelve win on
Saturday over San Diego over Los Angeles. Excuse me had
(06:51):
many of the national experts eating Crow, including ESPN's Rex Ryan.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
If you guys were going to play like that, I would.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Have taken you to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 17 (07:01):
I'm seeing the games going up into it one and
five against playoff teams. I'm seeing all that and I'm
sorry Houston.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Yeah, Ryan had previously said the Chargers had a bye
week by playing the Texans. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's
News Weather in traffic station News Radio seven forty k
T and rh.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Be Informed be on time.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Houston's morning news continues with Jimmy Parrett.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
No rodeo seasons almost Tier already March fourth, the twenty third,
and every year, of course, the lineup comes up of
musical acts they're going to appear at the Rodeo, and
every year there's people who are excited, people who are
disappointed because, you know, maybe maybe their favorite act is
not represented. I mean you can't you can't get everybody
(07:50):
on stage. You can get a lot of people, and
they have a lot of people appearing, but the lineup
to me, is always reflective of who's going to put
the most fannies in the seats. I think that that's
probably the idea right behind the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,
at least when it comes to the concerts, who's gonna
put the best fannies in the seats, who's gonna sell
the most tickets? It's not about and I don't believe
(08:13):
it should be about diversity, equity and inclusion. In other words,
you don't book an act just because you think it
ticks off some sort of a deibox. You book an
act because they can fill the seats. It's the whole
point of having the concerts. But that doesn't stop the
Houston Chronicle from wondering, how love why is it that
(08:33):
we just can't get enough women. Where's our diversity. We've
just got three non white performance bun Bee, Karen Leone
and group of Fronterra. The rest of them are white
people losing Countory singer Charlie Crockett. He's black is his
great grandmother was part black, but he said he identifies
(08:56):
as white. Oh okay, he's not taking off that box
on his own. We have two point seven million Latino
residents according to the twenty twenty three US census. That
number not reflected. The Houston Chronicle says in Rodeo Houston's
annual Go Tehano Day, which celebrates Latino culture, one of
the most attended rodeo days of the year, seven of
the top ten most attendant concerts are held by Go
(09:19):
Tehano Day performers. The Jonahs Brothers, another non country act,
broke the all time attennis record in twenty twenty four.
So why you got so many country people Because it's
a rodeo and this is Texas And yeah, okay, I
get it. You know, part of its price, part of
(09:40):
its availability, I mean is the Chronicles is saying that
the reason why more Tehano acts have not been booked
at the rodeo. Is because they don't want to have
diversity actaway inclusion or are they just I mean, is it
a possibility that they book people based on availability in popularity?
(10:01):
I mean, Reba McEntire's back, she's been This will be
the twentieth time she's performed at the Houston Livestop Showing Rodeo.
She hasn't been there in eleven years. It will be
her twentieth time that she's performed, So she's an all
time favorite. They got Journey, that's a rock act. They've
got plenty of coffry guard as shore. But I mean
they've got to go to Hanod Day. They've got R
(10:22):
and B hip Hop Day? What more do you want?
Five ten time for traffic and mother to go. You know,
my first radio act was what was your first rodeo acts? Guy, Mike,
Charlie Pride. Do you know anything about Charlie Pride Jims.
I know they want to talk about diversity, equity and
inclusion in company of music.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
That would be the guy, right, I shut up. Chronicle.
I mean, next time we have a run on toilet paper,
there's always the Chronicle. All right, let's go to the
felts and loops here. Check your north loop six ' ten.
We're not loopy at the squeeze yet to look in
westbound at forty five. In fact, when it's not loopy,
when things aren't backing up there, then you have to
watch out.
Speaker 16 (10:53):
For that curve.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
It's been on the wicked side watch out from sixty nine.
But we're moving nicely so far, a little on the
chili side. If you're coming down from two forty nine
the Forgotten Freeway, we look good Pinehurst all the way
to the North sam Katie Freeway, rocking along from Katie
Mills Mall to the President's Heads and easy twenty six
minute stroll. Oh almost forgot tip line seven one three
(11:14):
two one two tips.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
You're the reason I know stuff.
Speaker 18 (11:17):
Hey sky Mike, we're gonna have a little mess up
for a little bit northbound at Cullen.
Speaker 16 (11:22):
They're just now starting to pick up the traffic control.
Speaker 18 (11:25):
Traffic's already backing up, oh Man Darren from Spring the
morning's first banana sticker, and they've also picked up the
roadwork on the East Freeway at Wade Skymichael the Generator Supercenter,
dot Com Traffic Center.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
It's time to take a look at what's going on
with the weather. KTRIH Top Tax Defenders twenty four. Our
Weather Center forecast Terry Smith is here, and it looks
like the quint essential January day is coming up today.
Speaker 19 (11:48):
I love it. Yes, it is a quintessential January day.
Speaker 20 (11:53):
A little on the cool side, but not crazy cold
like we endured a good bit of last week.
Speaker 19 (11:58):
It's dry.
Speaker 20 (11:59):
That's the most important things. Slowly we're going to get
the clouds back. We'll get some rain for the second
half of the week. But today, blue skies and temperatures
similar to what they were yesterday. Generally from the mid
fifties to the low sixties this afternoon, so there may
be a couple of places slightly warmer. That'd be nice clouds. Tomorrow,
(12:22):
no rain though, mid upper fifties. We could get some
rain by the afternoon Wednesday. Looks like a little area
of low pressure out in the Gulf might bring us
some rain by the afternoon. Fifty percent chance you'll get wet,
thirty percent chants of rain Thursday, forty percent chants of
rain Friday. Right now, I am fixated on Friday because
it looks like temperatures may wind up in the mid
(12:43):
to upper sixties.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Now you're talking, I know right now forty three and
your official severe weather station, News Radio seven forty KRH.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barrets and the Houston
Morning News team all the info you need to take
on the day.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
So one of the things you're gonna hear over the
course of the next couple of weeks as Congress gets
back to work, Trump gets inaugurated and they start talking
about the budget and reconciliation and all that kind of stuff.
One of the things that will rear its ugly little
head again is the national debt and extending the national debt,
and the fear mongering will also begin on us, the
(13:24):
United States being US going broke and you know, redigging
on the debt and all the problems that would cause
when the reality is that that is never going to happen.
At least Senator Ron Johnson doesn't believe whatever is going
to happen. We'll share some audio from him coming up next.
First though, at five twenty, Little Traffic and Weather Together
is starting with you use sky Let's do.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Some Southwest Freeways. We come up from beautiful, historic Richmond,
driving across the Brazis River. Problem free on the inbound outbound,
of course, we have that lane shift. The real fun
starts in about a couple of months or so on
the outbound side. They'll go do some stuff, but for
now things are kind of normal. Let's we're twenty two
minutes from Sugarland up into downtown Katie Freeway, still rocking
(14:05):
from Pinoak Road. Easy going to the President's heads. Let's
do some two ninety off the tip line.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Good morning, Sky Michael's if your slip sliding down the
Highway of life, the two ninety is lean and green.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
All right, All clear? You didn't say your name?
Speaker 17 (14:19):
All right?
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Well, Banana Stick or Paul Simon, maybe Garfunkel. We'll call
on the Golf Freeway. I'm Skymichael, a Generator supercenter, dot
Com traffic.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Center from r KTRH top tax Defenders. Twenty four hour Weather.
It's under part of the cloudy. About sixty today, mostly cloudy,
cool fifty eight tomorrow for Wednesday, mostly cloudy with occasional
afternoon showers. I temperature fifty four. We're flirting with seventy
degrees though by the weekend, at least according to terry
temperature right now currently is forty three at your official
(14:49):
severe weather station, News Radio seven forty k TRH. Check
out some of our top stories on this Monday. Here's
clip sponsored.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
By Moro Mechanical. Senate confirmation hearings for Donald Trump's cabinet
begins tomorrow. The Biden administration claims and is rarely hostage
deal with Hamas is close, and Blue Origin called off
the launch of its new Glen rocket after several delays.
There's no word on when they'll try again. Get the
latest news anytime at KTRH dot com. Our next update
(15:19):
is at five point thirty.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
I live in friends with Your forecast is at the
bottom of the hour on the seven forty KTRH. Yeah,
US government's busted right now, but they're not redaking on
the national debt.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
That's just talk. That's just in some ways I wish
we would, but no, that's just tak Senator Ron Johnson
asked about the budget and reconciliation, and you know how
we can trim trillions from the budget and all that
good stuff.
Speaker 21 (15:47):
Here he is, there is no way the United States
government is going to default on our debt. There is
no way that's literally a scare tactic. This is all
about spending. That's going to be the primary sticking point.
And as I pointed out your show on Sunday, in
twenty nineteen, we spent four point four trillion dollars in total.
We went on a spending spree, spend six point six
trillion dollars the next year. Because of COVID, we've never
(16:10):
come off that. Over the last five years, we've averaged
six point five trillion dollars. So four point four to
now five years averaging six point five trillion dollars.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
That is ridiculous.
Speaker 21 (16:20):
So what I am doing is I'm reintroducing the concept
of setting a budget, living within our means, prioritizing spending.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
And I'm on a relatively some key.
Speaker 21 (16:30):
Committees, the Budget Committee, the Finance Committee, and I will say,
as I've started socializing that this week, it's people pretty
receptive to it because I've laid out such a reasonable plan.
You go back to Bill Clinton's spending from nineteen ninety eight,
and you just leave social security and medicare as they are,
and interest inflate everything else for population and inflation we'll
(16:51):
be spending five point five trillion dollars versus Biden want
to spend seven point three. If you just go back
to Obamas twenty fourteen, do the same thing six point
two trillion. By the way, use Trump's own budget because
last budget for twenty twenty five spending, it would be
six trillion dollars inflating the same way. So again, these
are reasonable spending numbers, way less than what Biden's proposing.
(17:14):
Why would we want to embrace President Biden's spending levels?
So again, people around your time, all, we got to
save two trillion over ten.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Years, that's peanuts.
Speaker 21 (17:23):
We should be saving ten to fifteen trillion over ten years.
That's gonna be the battle. That's the sticking point right there.
How much are we going to spend? And I'm I'm
glad President Trump saying this is about spending more money.
It's not. We need to spend a whole lot less,
start living within our means. There is no there is
no way we're going to fall turn into death.
Speaker 22 (17:40):
No way.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
There's also no way they can't trim a whole hell
of a lot more. I mean what he's talking about,
like going back to going back to a Clinton budget,
you know, and then making up for population growth and
inflation and still would be you know, one point wherever
trillion dollars less than what Biden is proposing they spend.
That doesn't even take into account making any changes. Say
(18:02):
this is where this is. This is what I fear
is that even somebody like a Senator Ron Johnson will
be perfectly happy, you know, just trying to get the
budget back down to where it was a few years
ago and not really look for the redundancy in the savings.
There's a whole lot more money that could be saved.
I mean, tons more. I mean there's no reason why.
I mean, I'm hopeful because at the end at least
(18:24):
he seemed to recognize that. You know, will it be
difficult to get Congress to change their ways, Yeah, it
will be difficult. But that's what the Department of Government
Efficiency is supposed to do, you know, get rid of buildings,
get rid of get rid of get rid of dead weight,
dead people departments. We don't need employees, we don't need
(18:45):
there's a lot of money to be saved. Five twenty six,
Here on Houston's Morning News on the Monday time to
take a look at your money. Jeff Bellinger, good morning,
and Jimmy, good morning to you.
Speaker 23 (18:55):
Investors will shift their focus to inflation and corporate earnings
this week. Economists think underlying price pressures cooled very slightly
as twenty twenty four ended. That, combined with friday stronger
than expected employment report, would support the Fed's go slow
approach to interst rate cuts. Worries that interest rates will
stay where they are for an extended times sent stocks
(19:17):
lower on Friday, with each of the major averages falling
more than one and a half percent. The government reports
on wholesale inflation tomorrow, retail inflation on Wednesday. Today we
get the Conference Board's Employment Trends Index. It comes out
after the markets open. The price of oil has jumped
to a four month high. Washington imposed new sanctions on
Russia's energy industry. Some overseas refiners were confused by the sanctions,
(19:41):
and some analysts say there's a downside risk to oil supplies.
President Biden admitted on Friday new sanctions on Russia could
send US gasoline prices higher. Stock market futures are lower
across the board at this early hour. I'm Jeff Bellinger,

from the Justice Department over the weekend. On truth Social
the President elect reacted saying Smith was a quote disgrace
to himself, his family, and his country. It's now five
point thirty two. Trump wants to close the border. The

keep it open. They announced an extension of temporary protected

The governor should direct every state agency head to immediately
conduct an audit to the term.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
When we have any other planting parents that.
Speaker 28 (25:01):
Officials secretly on the Texas tax payers payroll, and they
should be terminated immediately. We should not be subsidizing the
world's largest provider of abortions.
Speaker 8 (25:08):
It's insane.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Harrison says he plans to address the issue during the
legislative session. He'll join Jimmy at seven twenty. It's now
five point thirty five. Several of the California wildfires continue
to burn, as officials announced that the death toll is
up to twenty four at least. Governor Gavin Newsom reportedly
cut funding for wildfires by more than one hundred million
(25:30):
dollars in the months before the disaster.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Does the buck stop with you?
Speaker 29 (25:35):
I mean, hey, you're governor of California, inviting it will
be the mayor of California. We're all in this together.
We're all better off. We're all better off. We're all
better off, and we're working together to take care of people.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Newsome not saying it was on him during NBC's Meet
the Press, Looking at Your Money. Oil prices keep rising
now up to nearly seventy eight dollars a barrel this morning.
That's the highest we've seen in three months. Gas prices
up as well, as the Euston average is up to
two sixty two a gallon the state wide average at
two sixty nine. But the Left keeps forcing evs on us,
(26:09):
and under Biden, we're almost at the point where the
government is choosing your car.
Speaker 30 (26:14):
The push has included an EV mandate and tax credit,
but Trump is coming.
Speaker 31 (26:19):
He says, he wants to get rid of that, and
I think you might be able to do that. That
is going to require an Act of Congress, So hopefully
Congress can get rid of that.
Speaker 30 (26:25):
Carson Clayton of the tppfs, as manufacturers are oversupplying because
of Biden's penalties, and as much as they try, evs

Speaker 8 (26:34):
The infrastructure is not there.
Speaker 31 (26:35):
We're not ready to roll out electric vehicles like this,
and only are they extremely expensive, but they are not
nearly as convenient as gasoline vehicles.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
He says.
Speaker 30 (26:44):
Even people like Elon Musk support getting rid of the
EV mandates. Andrey Perard News Radio seven forty KTRH.

And yet another major company rolls back DEI initiatives as
Amazon joins Meta and other companies in making the move.
Future of Jobs Reports says that by twenty thirty, forty
one percent of large companies worldwide plan to replace some
workers with AI. Tech expert Peter Shankman says, the next
(27:11):
time you call for something like airline tickets, you could
be talking to an AI bot without knowing it.
Speaker 32 (27:18):
AI is a very specific term that means, you know,
artificial intelligence doing the work that regular intelligence used to do,
so we're not at skynets from terminator levels anytime soon.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Study showed that seventy percent of companies said they would
be hiring people to design AI tools, and the Rockets

Speaker 3 (28:00):
I'll get a whole lot more country than John Anderson,
but I don't need the Houston Chronicle accusing of me
of being like the rodeo not having any diversity. So
let's try this instead.
Speaker 22 (28:10):
In the bank, yeah, shouted, what's your drink? I got
money in the bank. Yeah shouted what's your drink? I
got money in the bank. Yeah shouted, what's your drink?
I got money in the bank.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
All right, the first nut. All right, let's talk about
money in the bank. Millions of Americans have no bank accounts.
They got no money in the bank. I don't know
where they got their money under the mattress. People still
do that, They still stick money under the mattress. Most
financial experts agree the best time to start using a
credit card is the age of eighteen. But in order
(28:44):
to use a credit card, you're generally speaking need to
have a bank account. So how do you get a
credit card by the bank account? You don't have a
debit card, you don't have a credit card. They have
found it. About four point two percent of Americans are
considered the term is unbanked. They have no bank account.
(29:05):
That's according to a data released by the FDIC, Assuming
that's anywhere near accurate. Not using banking services can be
expensive and time consuming. Many of the people who are
unbanked are in the American South. In fact, Louisiana is
the number one state for unbanked individuals. Over eight percent
(29:27):
of the population has no bank account. Mississippi very close
behind Texas. We have a fair amount of people in
Texas that are unbanked. Where one of the bigger states Nevada, Well, Nevada.
That's got to have something to do with gambling, right,
Here's the question. Are they unbanked because they don't trust banks,
(29:47):
or are they unbanked because they're dealing in drugs or
some other illicit business, which is a cash business, and
therefore they do everything with cash. That part I don't know.
But again, Texas one of the top states. The top
state Louisiana, followed by Mississippi. But they're all pretty much
all the other states where most of the people who
(30:08):
are unbanked lived five forty time for traffic and weather together.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
All right, that's our limit of wrap this morning. Jimmy, Yes,
got my more country.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
But it's all about diversity, I mean divorsit.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
I Mike, Okay, you're doing a nice job of that.
Let's check your Gold freeway here, and we're going right
in front.
Speaker 16 (30:25):
Of you, of H.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Let's see.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Jennifer just rang me up.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
She's like, well, what is going on on the Gold Freeway?
Is this? I've got a record it because you know
she talks like that, Terry, but in bound what it is?
I forgot to tell her that Darren from Spring got
eyes on that. I'm trying to get some eyes on
it right now, right in front of you, of H.
That roadwork from overnight is not yet up. We still
got some orange barrels and little flashy lights here. Now
(30:49):
I believe somebody did run into somebody right behind it
at Wayside. I've got reports of a wreck there and
I could see the seconds here. There's just we're trying
to get some things rebooted here. Also, this is what
we have on the digitals. That's about an eighteen minute delay.
So let's do two eighty eight if you're trying to
get up into downtown, or you could take six '
ten if you're hazardous. Either way, we're looking at an
(31:10):
extra eighteen minutes this way. Now the other side of
forty five North Freeway, we haven't had our wreck yet
at the Shepherd Curve. We're actually nice from Green's Point
to the Loop and twenty two minutes from the Woodlands

Speaker 3 (31:27):
We've got pretty unevent of the week. Looks like for
the next at least three or four or five days.
Speaker 20 (31:32):
Yeah, I mean overall it's fairly quiet. We do have
some brain that will had our way about midweek. The
big change for us, I think will be the warmer
weather toward the end of the week like regular January warmth. Oh,
I'm still I can't believe that we're talking like being
January warmth. Is a good thing, but compared to all
(31:54):
the cold weather we've had lately, that would be a
nice change of pace.
Speaker 19 (31:58):
Today's a dry day, still on the cooler side.
Speaker 20 (32:01):
Temperatures today mid fifties to low sixties, and tomorrow cloudy
but dry mid to upper fifties. Wednesday begins that possibility
of some rain of fifty percent chance of showers Wednesday,
a thirty percent chance of showers on Thursday, and a
forty percent chance of rain Friday. And Friday's when Right now,
temperatures look to reach into the mid to upper sixties.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Just about five fifties our time here in Houston's Morning News.
The Monday morning quarterbacking began a long time ago in
those Los Angeles wildfires. But maybe the person who made
the most sense was the most concise and really illustrated
exactly what needs to happen. To prevent this from happening
again was former California congressman and current Trump Media CEO Nunez.
(33:00):
I'll share his thoughts and I'm to fix the California problem. Next.
First though, at five fifty, traffic and weather together, starting
with you, sky Mike.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Let's rock up the golf Freeway. It's Keio from League City.
Speaker 33 (33:11):
Sky Mike, coming in towards downtown, starting at Telephone Road.
We're having some sort of hooplah up ahead boom. I
personally am diverting through downtown going to Ipan. Also, as
you mentioned, we have something going on on Ian.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
It's a double banana sticker there north bound. We have
that roadwork and let's see. James from Texas City tells
me all we have is that left lane getting by.
That's why we have the suggage from Telephone. And yes,
we have a minor accident on the KD. This is
outbound at Stewdentmon Just to watch out. We've got a
lot of flashy lights, Skymichael. The Generator Supercenter, dot Com

The Trump inauguration is seventy day is seven days away.
Nearly thirty people have been arrested for looting in the
California wildfires. And according to a new study, and we
shouldn't be surprised because of the state size, Texas had
more lightning strikes than any other state in the country
last year. Get the latest news anytime at KTRH dot com.

in the new year. NewsRadio seven forty KGRH.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
You know, it's not a hard problem to fix, at
least according to a former California congressman and current Trump
media CEO, Devin Nunez. It really really isn't hard. I mean,
they haven't done it. Writing californ Corney as far as
managing the forest, managing the brush and all that kind
of stuff for like thirty forty years now. But if
all they need to do is go back to former policies.
(35:08):
Here he is explaining how it used to be and
how it needs to be again to save California.
Speaker 24 (35:13):
It's water, it's grazing, it's logging. Those industries have all
been hampered. If you look at agriculture, we're down in
We're down in land that's being far because of lack
of water. This means when farms don't get water, guess what.
The La Basin also doesn't get water. So as you're
building out and adding people and adding homes in the
Los Angeles Basin, if you don't have an adequate abundant
(35:37):
water supply and you're rationing water, the people that are
building those homes, the city planners. They're not putting in
green areas, they're not building fire brakes. If you run
the farmers and ranchers out of the state of California,
guess what, you don't have the animals to sit there
and graze. So a combination of the proper land management
(35:57):
would solve all of this problem. Now, what's going to happen,
Just like they've done for the last twenty years, California's
going to run to the federal government and they're going
to ask for money. And I think this time, hopefully,
I think President Trump and the Republicans in Congress will say, look,
we're just not going to keep doing the same thing again.
So California is going to need a lot of money.
(36:18):
And I feel bad. I have friends that lost homes.
Some of the most wealthy real estate in the planet
has burnt to a crisp, is burnt to the ground,
and it all should be built back. But it has
to be built back when California decides that they're actually
going to use the water infrastructure that's been built in
the state for the last hundred years. They're going to
actually use it and allow the water to flow into
(36:39):
places like Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
They're going to bring the timber.
Speaker 24 (36:43):
Industry back so you can actually efficiently go and get
the logs and the dead trees and everything out of
the forest and so that you can actually and then
also managing that vegetation growth and building in fire breaks.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
That's what has to happen.
Speaker 16 (36:55):
Now.
Speaker 24 (36:56):
What I'm concerned about is will these people that lost
their home, who consistently voted for people like Gavin Newsom
Jerry Brown before, who have who've given money to these
these radical green causes, who have embraced the Green New Deal,
are they going to sing from the same verses they've
been singing from for thirty years and are they going
to tell the people, Oh, this is global warming.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Uh, there's there's no issue here. This is all about
climate change.
Speaker 24 (37:19):
If the politicians in California say that again, hopefully the
voters in California will say, We're not going to take
this nonsense anymore. Let's just let the water flow, Let's
let the animals back on the on the land, Let's
mow the grass, let's clean the forest. Let's build proper
fire brakes, Let's have green areas.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
That's how you solve this problem. Duh. The problem is
the politicians he was referring to are already saying that
they're already they're already claiming climate change. Oh yeah, we
just this is not normal to get these these hundred
miles per hours Santa Anna winds. This is not no,
this is this is extreme weather. This heck, the head
of FEMA, what a joke. She is the ahead of FEMA,
(38:01):
was on I think faced the nation yesterday talking about it.
We'll share somebody, but from her coming up later in
the meantime too. You know what kind of pain they're
gonna have to deal with now. The people who are
who are going to insist on staying there, who are
going to live there, who are going to rebuild there,
They're going to need some place to live. And there's
a lot fewer places to live in the Los Angeles
(38:22):
area now because of these fires. So guess what's going
to happen to the home prices and the rent over
the course of the next few months through the roof.
You think it's an expensive place to live, now, just wait,
it's going to get crazy expensive. Five fifty six is

That was some leftovers from the weekend. Northbound.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
The spackle has gone too, So that's the good news

they've knocked out some right lanes and put a wall up. Also,
we've shut down the Taylor Street. We're doing that elevation

shut off the exits and inserts from Taylor Street. East

Speaker 3 (40:48):
We have a wide open southern border. Oil is going

get to work immediately, telling Republican senators late last week
he's preparing more than one hundred executive orders. But between
now and then, Joe Biden is still in charge. He
could issue more pardons, but claims he won't pardon himself.
Speaker 8 (41:16):
I have no contemplation to pardon my self friend, that
I didn't do anything wrong.
Speaker 5 (41:20):
Remember, he also said he wouldn't pardon Hunter, but he did.
He will give his farewell address from the Oval Office
on Wednesday night at seven o'clock and later today he
speaks about his foreign policy legacy at the State Department.
He probably won't mention how powerful China has gotten under
his watch.
Speaker 12 (41:40):
China's cyber program is by far and away the world's largest,
bigger than that of every major nation combined.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Outgoing FBI Director Christopher Ray also told sixty Minutes he
resigned before Trump could fire him six oh three on KTRH.
As the Santa Ana wins get stronger, one wildfires continue
to burn in Los Angeles.
Speaker 34 (42:02):
Firefighters in southern California are still struggling to contain those
deadly out of control wildfires. While crews report some progress,
officials warn the threat remains very high winds expected to
pick up in strength this week. At least twenty four
people are now dead, more than a dozen others are missing.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Those numbers expected to rise.
Speaker 5 (42:22):
John Scott reporting a team of firefighters from Houston is
part of a Texas contingent heading to California for at
least two weeks. Now, the impacts of a natural disaster
like this lead to questions here at home. Any Texas
homeowners have turned to the state's Windstorm Insurance Association for
home insurance, but it might not be able to afford
(42:44):
the cost of a Category five hurricane.
Speaker 11 (42:47):
It's a losing battle for TWEA to try and keep
up with the amount of reserves that they need in
order to take care of damages associated with storms.
Speaker 5 (42:56):
Insurance expert Ron Snuffer told ktr ate that the state
burned through a round fifty percent of its cash reserves
during Hurricane Beryl six o four. Now we are a
day away from the start of the Texas legislative session,
and if you think it couldn't happen, it is. The
fight over the Texas House speakership is getting nastier.
Speaker 4 (43:16):
State Rep.
Speaker 35 (43:17):
Cody Harris has now filed a complaint with the State
Ethics Commission against the Texas Republican Party because they're threatening
to punish members who don't support party nominee David Cook.
Brandon Waltons with Texas Scorecards says the party made the
rules clear.
Speaker 12 (43:29):
Party says, look, you're somebody who's joining with Democrats, you're
pushing democrat and priorities, you're putting Democrats in charge. Then
you can't run as a Republican. And that's what has
members like Cody Harris up set.
Speaker 35 (43:39):
The Texas GOP fired back, calling Harri's complaint baseless. The
vote for speaker is set for Tuesday. Corey Ulson, who's

Speaker 5 (43:47):
And following the New Orleans attack, Texas Governor Greg Abbott
called on DPS to bolter anti terrorism efforts. Todd Benzman
with the Center for Immigration Study says there are also
concerns about what they call soft targets.
Speaker 14 (44:01):
Synagogue's, Jewish day schools, places where people are gathering outdoors
in large numbers, parades, those would be considered soft targets too,
like in New Orleans.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
And that includes the Euston Marathon, which will have thirty
five thousand runners on Sunday. It's also the first major
event in Houston since New Orleans. Weighed morehead with the
marathon committee says they are strengthening security.
Speaker 15 (44:24):
We have again the full attention of HPD, Homeland Security, FBI, fusion,
all of our partners, HFD First or Spaders.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
Not only will thirty five thousand runners be in the race,
there will be thousands more watching along the route. It's
six h six. Jimmy's going to talk a little bit
more about this in a minute. But the mainstream media
was surprised that NFL ratings were down this season. Maybe
they shouldn't have been.
Speaker 7 (44:52):
The NFL averaged seventeen and a half million viewers per
regular season game in twenty twenty four, down from seventeen
point nine million the previous year.
Speaker 16 (45:00):
The NFL lost a very small amount really over last year,
but it's still lost, which is unusual for the league.
Speaker 7 (45:06):
Bright Bart contributor Warner Todd Houston says, if all the networks,
ESPN got sacked the hardest.
Speaker 16 (45:11):
Even before the cable cutting, you know trends really started.
ESPN had fallen out of favor from a lot of
people because of its politics.
Speaker 5 (45:18):
Houston blames the network being left wing as a reason
for a drop in viewership chart. Lewis News Radio seven
forty k CHA eight Gee Texans wrapped the Chargers in
the playoffs on Saturday in the final thirty two to twelve.
Speaker 30 (45:30):
It was that's the complimentary football that you know we've
been looking for and we've been needed as a team,
and it's just outstanding performance on all three phases.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Really proud of all of our guys.
Speaker 5 (45:40):
Head coach Tomiko Ryans. The Texans now play Kansas City
next Saturday in the divisional rounds of the playoffs. That
game is set for three thirty in the afternoon in
Kansas City because the Texans always play playoff games at
three thirty in the afternoon on Saturdays, and the Longhorns
lest to Ohio State and the college football playoffs. Some
fans are blaming Texas Senator Ted Cruz Jimmy the Cruise curse.
(46:04):
He made a bet with the incoming Vice president and
former Ohio Senator jd Vance. Again, it's the continuation of
the Cruise curse, according to those fans.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
I'm beginning to think there's something to it.
Speaker 5 (46:15):
I think so as well, stay away from ut Ted.
I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News weather in Traffic station

Your best ways are round Houston next on the ten

Speaker 4 (46:34):
AD.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
All you football fans out there, you saw the Texans game,
right Rex Ryan apologizing to Texas Texan fans and Texas
Texans players as well for you know, basically saying the
Chargers had a bye week by playing the Houston Texans.
In case you didn't hear at the final score was
(46:56):
what was it like, thirty two to twelve something like that. Yeah,
it was ridiculous, just ridiculous. The Texans defense on fire.
But I was a little surprised by Cliff's story here
about fewer viewers for the National Football League if for
no other reason than you know, the story brought up politics.
The viewership was down on ESPN, and they blamed politics
(47:20):
for that. Well, you know, maybe you can say that
about some things, but usually a football game separates itself
from the politics of the moderators that work for ESPNUN
or any other group. For example, if the if the
Texans game was on MSNBC, would you not watch it
because you hate MSNBC. No, you'd watch the game, you
(47:43):
just wouldn't watch it any other time. So I don't.
I don't think that's what the problem is.
Speaker 17 (47:49):
Now.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
You can make a case maybe that the product has
been deluded too much. It's in too many different places
in order to be able to watch all the games.
You would have to have not just NBC, CBS, and Fox,
you also have to have ESPN, Amazon and Netflix. Well
we have Amazon Prime, but I was really surprised we're
(48:12):
in the playoffs now. I get during the regular season
how they'll stick a game or two on these subscription services.
But the only way you saw the Saturday night NFL
Wild Card matchup between the Eagles and the Packers was
if you had Amazon Prime. I mean, what the what
the heck, NFL, why would you do that? It makes
(48:36):
me wonder if we're not going to be going all
subscription one of these days right where you have to
subscribe to a whole variety of different things in order
to be able to get, you know, be able to
see all the NFL games that you want to see.
Maybe it won't be on Prime TV anymore. Maybe maybe
they're coming up with a better way to make money,
or they think better way to make money based on subscriptions.
(48:57):
Six ' ten time for traffic other together. That's it.
It always happens Timekee.
Speaker 4 (49:01):
It used to be on you know, three channels, and
there was a twelve o'clock game and a three o'clock game,
and it was just on normal TV and then you
had a Monday night game. I think the secret to
the success of the NFL was you knew exactly what
was on when and it was part of your schedule
and where to go to find it. That's right. Let's see, Well,
apparently you've got to you got to create some suckage
to make an omelet on the KD Freeway. We're doing
(49:23):
that raising the KDIE Freeway project deal and it started.
Guess what started this past weekend. They shut the tailor exits.
Now I was seeing correctly, that's two right lanes that

Depth telephone problems evidently that's that's that's a problem we're having.
The phone system isn't working right now, which is a shame,
because I wanted to talk to Ron Snow for CEO
of the National Claims Negotiators. In fact, it it's a
story I was kind of pitching last week to the
crew here the Texas Wind and Hail Association, and you
(51:55):
all got insurance with them. We have a place in
Freeport and we have insurance of the Texas Wind and
Hale Association. They're kind of a last resort insure for
coastal properties because you know, a lot of a lot
of the big names, brand names won't won't do the
Texas coast. They're too afraid of the hurricanes and obviously
wind and hale, thus the name Texas Wind and Hale Association.
(52:17):
But my question was, if we were to have Heaven
forbid a Category five hurricane or something like that hit
us and started destroying everything and destroyed a whole bunch
of coastal properties, would be not for resources with the
Texas Wind and Hail Association in order to be able
to pay for the damage. And if they weren't, what
(52:38):
because this is regulated by the state. If if there wasn't,

a poll, get it, a gallup pole, which basically determined
at least according to your opinion. And of course they
didn't ask you, did they or my opinion didn't ask
me either, but they did determined that next to Richard Nixon,
(55:19):
that the worst United States president is Joe Biden hard
to argue that he's amongst the worst. The fact that
he is worse than Jimmy Carter is saying something. Quite honestly,
I think he's worse than Richard Nixon because what happened
with Watergate is child's play compared to many of the
(55:42):
things that we believe that Biden was doing. But then again,
he's not been convicted of anything. He hasn't been prosecuted
for anything, and no doubt never will be. But Greg Guttfeld,
on his late night show riffing about these pole results,
got tricky, Dick.
Speaker 37 (56:01):
There's a new worst president in town. According to a
new Gallop poll, Biden is the lowest rated of any

But to be fair to Nixon, compared to Biden's scandals,
Watergate looks like.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
A broken tail light. Now, when you rate.
Speaker 37 (56:20):
Biden the worst since Nixon, you're saying he's the worst ever.
Because posters only ask about presidents that people have lived under,
going back to Kennedy, unless you're some historian, you're only
capable of rating presidents in your memory. Hell, Biden himself
doesn't even remember his own presidency, so the worst since
(56:41):
Nixon is really the worst ever. And keep in mind
the public hates Biden, even with most of the press
covering up his dementia for this whole term. And sure
they panicked and piled on him after that deadly debate,
but they can't make us forget how many times they
lied for him still doing it even when he does

At the eulogy. It's pretty funny stuff. Yeah, even if
you were to take him from a historical perspective, I think,
and compared to every US president, I mean, we don't
we know that George Washington was the father of our country.
We really you know, we will only know the highlights
(58:11):
of his terms, his two terms as president of the
United States. So yeah, you're right. We have a tendency
to kind of, you know, consider who the best and
the worst were based on who we lived under. You know,
how many presidents have you lived under that you remember
their presidency and can comment on what kind of a
job you thought that they did. And certainly, in my
lifetime used the worst, and I would think that would
(58:33):
be true for most of us in our lifetime. And
you know what, here's the thing. Trump used to be
the worst for a lot of people until historical perspective
and Biden gave you another look at what he was
actually able to accomplish. And they're actually giving him another
opportunity to accomplish more. So it can change one way
or the other over the course of time. Trump's will

Six thirty eighty. Time here in Houston's boing News. Bob
Seeker wants to be UMC. That's upper middle class. I
think probably he made enough money to overqualified to be
upper middle class. About field, good question everybody always wants
to know is where where do I rank? Well, maybe
you don't care, but but but people generally still care
(01:07:52):
or consider themselves to be middle class, upper middle class,
upper class. Not the class means anything to me, but
you know, we do have a tendency to judge ourselves
based on how we're doing compared to others. So every
now and again they come up with new figures of
how much money you need to make in order to
(01:08:13):
be in a certain class. So this latest study of
the personal finance site smart asset found that the middle
income range for Texas, because it's different from state to state,
obviously wouldn't be the same for California or for New
York as it is for Texas. You'd have to make
a whole lot more money in order to be able
to qualify as upper class, for example, in California or
(01:08:34):
New York than you went in Texas. But for the
middle income range anywhere, it's a wide range, anywhere between
forty eight and one hundred and forty four thousand dollars,
with the median household income here in Texas seventy two
thousand to eighty four. So if you make about seventy
two thousand to eighty four, you are right in the middle.
If you make one hundred and forty four thousand, you're
(01:08:54):
more towards the upper end of middle class. And if
you make around forty eight thousand dollars, you're down round
on the lower end of where the middle class range is.
So if you plug all the plug all that in,
by the way, and get even more specific for Houston,
the Houston Pasadena Woodlands metro area, you know, based on
(01:09:15):
those income figures, thirty point two percent of the metro
would be lower class, fifty point seven percent would be
middle class, in nineteen point one percent would be upper class.
And to be upper class, you would need to be
making in Texas. You'd need to make two hundred and
(01:09:37):
sixty seven hundred and sixty seven dollars a year. According
to Yahoo Finance, in order to qualify a s upper
class in Texas, take forty one time for traffic and
weather together for the tollings on two eighty eight. I
mean upper you got to be upper class.

some of that cold air may impact Texas as well.

chris Well, unfaced the nation yesterday talking about the LA wildfires.
Of course, she's just a fond of great information here
she is.
Speaker 42 (01:15:20):
Do you have a sense at this point why the
area was so unprepared?
Speaker 39 (01:15:25):
I think that they were very prepared. This is something
that they are very used to. They fight fires all
the time, but they have never seen one hundred mile
an hour winds that are fueling the fire. And those
winds and that weather condition is what really impacts you know,
where this fire is going to go, but more importantly,
how they're able to try to contain it in those
first few hours and days. And because it was in
(01:15:47):
such a populated area, it just makes it that much
more challenging to be able to get in there and
secure the perimeter, but as well try to save as
many homes as possible.
Speaker 42 (01:15:58):
In terms of the federal and the support you're given
to local authorities. President Biden spoke a few times from
the Oval office this week, and he did mention the
need to move power lines underground. Do you know where
the power lines a cause of any of these blazes?
Speaker 39 (01:16:16):
Yeah, I don't have any information on the cause, and
I think that's certainly going to be something that's going
to be, you know, under investigation. But I think when
we think about moving the power lines underground, it's not
just from the cause, but it's also how do you
keep the power on when we have these severe weather incidents.
When you underground them, you create a more resilient community
and it can withstand the impacts of all of these
(01:16:37):
different types of storms, whether it's fires or hurricanes, and
we want to be able to keep these communities energized.
Speaker 42 (01:16:43):
Will that be a requirement for any federal support for
the rebuild.
Speaker 39 (01:16:47):
It's not going to be a requirement for us unless
it's part of their local code, right, and we want
to be able to enforce the local codes that they have,
and so we'll work closely with California is also using
this as an opportunity. You know, even if it's not
a requirement, is this is something that they want to
be able to do.
Speaker 19 (01:17:02):
We have additional ways.
Speaker 39 (01:17:03):
That we can fund that through our programs as they
begin the rebuilding.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Sure, we'll just give We'll just give California some more money,
and we'll won't make them take our water, and we
won't make them clean up the brush and well you know,
we won't make them have fire hydrants that are working.
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
That's silly.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
You want money to bury the power lines, We'll give
you money to bury the power how much you want.
The federal piggy bank is open and you don't have
to change anything you do. We're you just whatever your
local rules are. That's what we're going to follow. Oh
my god. Well, you want to know why history continually
repeats itself. This is why, this is why the federal
(01:17:43):
government should be saying to California, no help unless you
make these changes. And if you don't want to make
the changes, you're on your own. And if they're on
their own, maybe the citizens of California will wake up
and vote for better government. All right, six fifty five

Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
To start with a bit of realism.
Speaker 6 (01:21:46):
And the real truth is that Joe Biden has left
us a dumpster fire. Donald Trump is going to have
to put it out, but he's good at doing that.
Speaker 5 (01:21:52):
Vance on Fox's Sunday Morning Futures. Trump will start putting
that fire out on day one. By reportedly preparing more
than one hundred executive orders that said President Joe Biden
still has a week left to do more damage and
issue more pardons.
Speaker 30 (01:22:08):
Have you ruled out a pardon for yourself or any
other additional members of the family for myself?
Speaker 36 (01:22:13):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 8 (01:22:14):
What what I pardon myself for?
Speaker 5 (01:22:16):
Remember Joe said he wouldn't pardon his son Hunter and
what happened with that. Biden will make his farewell speech
from the Oval Office on Wednesday night that scheduled for

policy legacy seven h three on KTRH. Several of the
wildfires continue to burn this morning in Los Angeles, as

the death toll is now at twenty four.
Speaker 9 (01:22:40):
Fire crews in Los Angeles are scrambling to contain deadly wildfires.
As Santa Ana wins intensify, a fire warning remains in
effect across the region until Wednesday. Wins could gust up
to fifty miles per hour along the coast and as
high as seventy miles per hour in the mountains. Officials
warn these conditions could spark new fires and threaten the
progress US already made.
Speaker 5 (01:23:01):
Maryann Rafferty reporting there. A team of Houston area firefighters
is in California to help fight those fires. That group
will be there for at least two weeks. Homeowners here
might be wondering about the insurance consequences of this because
the Texas Windstorm Association will it be good enough to
get us through a major disaster like a Cat five hurricane.
Speaker 10 (01:23:24):
There's already concerns about twea's cash reserves after Hurricane Barrel.
Speaker 11 (01:23:27):
TWEA in the fall tried to get the State of
Texas to allow them to increase premiums by ten percent
because they knew they had a shortfall already.
Speaker 10 (01:23:36):
Insurance expert Ron Snowferd told KTRH there is somewhat of
a backup plan in case TWEA goes broke.
Speaker 11 (01:23:41):
Well, last time that something like this happened, let's State
of Texas told them naked still bonds in order to
come up with the reserves that they needed.
Speaker 10 (01:23:49):
Snowferd did warn, however, that that wasn't a viable long

punish members who don't support speaker nominee David Cook. Brandon
Waltons with Texas Scorecard says this is a dramatic move.
Speaker 12 (01:24:21):
Essentially, you have creders trying to put the Republican Party
in Texas chairman in jail because he is trying to
ensure the Republicans during the speaker vote vote for the
Republican candidate and don't work with Democrats.

believe that vanilla is the finest of the flavors. My
wife and I disagree on this all the time. She
doesn't think vanilla is a flavor. She thinks it's just
like a bass that you have to add flavor too. No, no, no,
vanilla is a flavor. You either I mean, like vanilla
or you don't. Because if you if you like vanilla,
(01:27:26):
you know the difference between you know, some vanilla ice
creams and other vanilla ice creams. Always find it interesting
to look at these rankings that people come up with
for who has the best vanilla ice cream. Now, I
will say this that I think Agb's got some pretty
good ice cream. Their creamy creation stuff is really really good.
They're not on this list, and I'm guessing it's because
AGB is a regional grocer and non national grocer. These
(01:27:50):
are just national brand names that are found in most
grocery stores coast to coast. They took the you know
the this is not homemade ice cream, This is you know,
ice cream shop ice cream. This is you can buy
it in the frozen foods at the supermarket ice cream
and they rank them eleven of them from worst to best.
(01:28:11):
Worst on the list Mayfield Cream Ring homemade ice cream.
Number ten Briar's Natural Vanilla. I agree. I never care
for Briar's too chalky, it's not creamy, it's you know.
The thing that makes ice cream good, at least in
my mind, is the fat content. It's got to have
high fact content. I'm not eating it when I'm on

a diet, I mean, because I want to taste good.
Number nine Eaties Vanilla bean ice cream. Number eight, Blue
Bunny Vanilla Bean ice cream. Number seven, Trader Joe's French

Seven twenty two. Now here on Houston's Warning News. So
let's see if we can ungravel this story a little bit,
the medical director of the Texas Medical Board, retiring after
less than two weeks after conservative lawmakers publicized his employment
with a planned parenthood laboratory. His name was doctor Robert
will still is doctor Robert Brett worked as medical director
for the State Medical Licensing Agency. Since you ready for this,
(01:34:23):
twenty twelve, so he'd been there for twelve years now.
Of course, my course first question would be from State
Representative Brian Harrison. How many years was he double dipping there?
How many years was he also the state medical director
and working for planned parenthood.
Speaker 28 (01:34:38):
Yeah, we're still looking in to know that for a fact,
But I mean, you just can't overstate how outrageous this is.
And it brings as we gabble in a new session
down here the Texas Legislature, it highlights one of the
most important things I'm trying to educate Texans all over
the state.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
And that's it.
Speaker 28 (01:34:55):
Texas has this reputation for leading the nation and freedom
and liberty and conservative values. But in far too many
ways we are just coasting on those reputations and we
need to start living up to it. And look, the
state of Texas should be leading the fight against planned parenthood,
not putting them on our payroll, not forcing taxpayers to
subsidize them. In this case, if you're listening right now
(01:35:17):
and you pay taxes in Texas, your taxes were paying
a planned parenthood official two hundred thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
Dollars a year.
Speaker 28 (01:35:25):
And to do what to regulate every other doctor in
the state of Texas. That is outrage Proud to have
help deliver this victory to get that guy off the.
Speaker 3 (01:35:34):
Payroll, and thank you for doing that. But here's what
else I would like to know. And this may be
a bigger the sign of a bigger problem. I mean,
let's face it, I'm a Republican, but Republicans are not
perfect and mistakes, mistakes do get made. One would ask
how did this guy get to be appointed? To begin with?
Given the fact that the governor, Governor Greg Abbott appoints
(01:35:56):
the board, the board is the one that appointed him.
So I guess the question would be, are we making
smart board choices if we have governor having appointed board
members who voted to have this guy be the medical
director to begin with?
Speaker 28 (01:36:09):
Well, I think the answer to that question is as
bad as it is is also obvious in that no,
we aren't. First of all, bureaucrats in the state of Texas,
not just Washington, DC, but bureaucrats are wielding way too
much power. And you know, President Trump is going back
to take a wrecking ball to the administrative state.
Speaker 4 (01:36:29):
We should lead by.
Speaker 28 (01:36:30):
Example in taking away all this power from these woke, liberal,
leftist unelected bureaucrafts. And in this case we've got and
yes they are appointed by the governor, the Texas Medical
Board directors. But this is a board that during COVID
was prosecuting doctors over mask policies, and doctors who are
(01:36:52):
trying to treat patients, and who were not just blindly
listening to Joe Biden's CDC and and to FDA. But
what were they doing while they're prospering amcuting doctors trying
to treat patients. On one hand, and I've been sound
to the alarm of this for two years, they were
empowering doctors in the state of Texas to perform these
dangerous sex changed procedures on precious.
Speaker 4 (01:37:13):
Vulnerable children.
Speaker 28 (01:37:16):
And to keep in mind, the same Texas Medical Board
that had a planned parenthood official as their medical directors.
So maybe it makes sense, But to go back to
your question, A second ago. Because I'm reading through his
CV right here, his resume, this planned parenthood official. If
it's correct, and this is we're one of the things
we're looking into. It looks like he was a planned
parenthood official starting in twoenty eleven.
Speaker 8 (01:37:37):
And you know what that means.
Speaker 28 (01:37:38):
That means that somebody, a Republican appointed official in the
state of Texas, hired a planned parenthood official and did
it knowingly. There needs to be accountability, and quite frankly,
budgets need to be cut and people need.
Speaker 3 (01:37:52):
To be fired, I think though, and again you know,
I'm not trying to pick on the governor, but I
think the accountability also has to go to the governor's office.
We need to do a better job of vetting the
people that are being appointed. We've had problems with the UH,
you know, with the State Public Utility Commission in the
way that they handled Center Point. Now we've got this
particular problem. I think I think that maybe way too
often these positions are you know, political favors that are
(01:38:17):
paid by whoever is in power in the governor's office,
and maybe that's the part that needs to stop as well.
Speaker 28 (01:38:22):
Now there's got to be look the legislative branch of
the government is actually that's where the Constitution really gave
all the power to write all the laws in the state.
Let me tell you I've been in the Texas Legislature
three years now after working under President Trump in Washington,
d C. In his first term, we had the legislature
has got to step up and do legislative oversight over
these executive branch agencies, even if we have a Republican governor,
(01:38:45):
as we do. And I'll give you one more example,
because these agencies are off the rails.
Speaker 19 (01:38:48):
Number one, our.
Speaker 28 (01:38:49):
Public universities in the state of Texas. It's like the
inmates are running the assilum. We've got LGBTQ miners popping
off all over the case our our public universities. Ut
they're promote voting transgenderism at taxpayer expense. And here's another agency,
the Texas Workforce Commission. I did the same thing to
them just about a month or two ago when they
put on their website they were going to start treating
(01:39:11):
transgender and sexual identity as a protected class for employment
law in the state of Texas. Same thing I sounded
the alarm, got into the take that insanity off of
their website. But I shouldn't be having to do this.
You're right, they have a boss and there needs to
be better management over in the executive branch.
Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
It's just no other way to say it. Well, thanks
for shining the light on sir. We sure to appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:43:20):
Texas Congressman Brandon Guild told KTRH that making these policies
permanent should be a no brainer because they work, and
as part of reconciliation, House Republicans want to include citizenship
verification for healthcare handouts. Republicans in Congress hopes to have
plenty of important pieces of legislation ready for President elect
Donald Trump's signature on day one.

it doesn't have a leader. David Cook is the GOP
Caucus nominee, while Dustin Burroughs claims support from both Republicans
and Democrats. Meantime, State Rep. Brian Harrison discovered that the
(01:44:31):
director of the Texas Medical Board, Robert Brett, was also
working for Planned Parenthood. Brett stepped down. Harrison wants to
know how we got here in the first place.
Speaker 28 (01:44:42):
The governor should direct every state agency head to immediately
conduct an audit to determine if when we have any
other plant in parents had officials secretly on the Texas
taxpayer's payroll, and they should be terminated immediately. We should
not be subsidizing the world's largest provider of abortions.
Speaker 8 (01:44:56):
It's insane.
Speaker 5 (01:44:57):
Harrison plans to address this during the legislative sets seven
thirty five. Several of the California wildfires continue to burn
this morning. The death toll now at twenty four and
expected to rise. Governor Gavin Newsom of California reportedly cut
funding for wildfires by more than one hundred million dollars
before the current disaster.
Speaker 8 (01:45:18):
Does the buck stop with you?
Speaker 29 (01:45:19):
I mean, hey, you're governor of California, inviting that will
be the mayor of California. We're all in this together.

to the point where the government is choosing our cars.
Speaker 30 (01:45:54):
The push has included an EV mandate and tax credit,
but Trump is coming.
Speaker 31 (01:45:58):
He says he wants to get rid of that, and
I think you might be able to do that. That
is going to require an Act of Congress, So hopefully
Congress can get rid of that.

Thirty eight Our time, Houston's morning News. Yawning is a
natural thing when you're tired, but unfortunately it's also a
natural thing when you're nervous, and that's why it's one
of the quote unquote suspicious behaviors that can red flag
you to the TSA. I'm telling you this for the
(01:47:59):
next time you fly. If you're sitting there in your
chair or going through the TSA line and you're you're yawning,
constantly yawning, then you might get flagged. That might be
why they stopped you. It's because you're yawning too much.
Because they believe that it's a common behavior of people
who are stressed. They want more oxygen, so they yawn.
(01:48:23):
It's also common for people who are tired. But yeah,
for wherever that's worth. Evidently, there are some other common
behaviors that we have they can attract the attention at
the Transportation and Security Administration of the TSA folks. One
of them, and this one makes sense if a traveler
is dressed for weather that does not align with either location.
(01:48:47):
In other words, you are flying from let's say a
warm weather climate from Miami to Houston in June, and
you're wearing a you're wearing a trench coat. Yeah, that
would be pretty obvious, right, Or if you are flying
somewhere from somewhere cold to somewhere cold, and you're you know,
(01:49:10):
wearing you know, Bermuda shorts and you know, in a
Hawaiian shirt or whatever, whatever the combination may be. Other
everyday behavior, the thousand yard stare or lack of icon tact.
They're talking to you and you won't look them in
the eye. Those are the three things, three top things
that get their attention. Seven forty time for traffic and

couple clouds with no big deal, right.
Speaker 20 (01:50:58):
Yeah, No, today's actually a fairly nice day as a
whole with the sunshine. Temperature is just a touch cool,
nothing too crazy though, mid fifties to low sixties for Hives. Today,
we'll start to see more clouds Tomorrow. We're dry though,
mid upper fifties, and then we start to get the
rain Wednesday, Wednesday, Thursday, excuse me. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
(01:51:24):
The temperatures will be in the fifties Wednesday and Thursday,
with a fifty percent chance of showers Wednesday afternoon and
a thirty percent chance of rain Thursday. But Friday a
forty percent chance of rain and some warmer weather at

Seven forty nine is are timed. You're on Houston's Morning News.
We got our phone system working this morning, thank goodness,
at least for this hour. So I wanted to get
this guy rescheduled. He's the CEO of National Claims Negotiators.
I was the question I was asking on Friday, you know,
with what's been going on in Los Angeles, with the wildfires.
Is you know Texas also has its own insurance of
(01:52:20):
last resort is the Texas Wind and Hal Association. It
covers coastal properties. I happen to have a coastal property
that has insurance of the Texas Wind and Hal Association.
It's not cheap. In fact, I think it's the most
expensive next to the flood insurance. It's the most expensive
policy I have. But what were to happen if we
had a devastating, let's say Cat four, Cat five hurricane
(01:52:41):
on the Texas coast. They've wiped a whole bunch of
homes out? Are there are there enough assets with the
Texas Wind and Hal Association that cover the losses? More
than that story coming up in just a moment. First, though,
let's do traffic and weather together. As we check out
the drive once again.
Speaker 4 (01:52:55):
The sky Miike Katie Freeway outbound from downtown out to
Heights Boulevard were missing two lanes? Is that a concrete wall?
You're just glad to see me. This is outbound, not inbound.
I got two recks now two ninety inbound at the
West Sam that's three lanes they're working on it, and
a secondary wreck at Highway six. Will zoom it at

Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
You know I don't mind that kind of summer wind.
It's the linger eighty mile per hour one hundred mile
per hour one hundred and twenty mile per hours summer
wind that can cause a problem, that's for sure. As
I said, the Los Angeles wildfires have us wondering as
a state that does have insurance of last resort the
Texas Wind and Hail Association to cover properties on the coast,
and then we are there enough assets. We're hearing all
(01:54:40):
sorts of stories because of the great devastation Los Angeles
that there's their insurance of last resort does not have
enough assets in order to pay for all the damages.
I'm not sure what they're going to do, but I'm
more concerned about us. We live in Texas. Ron Snuffer
joins US CEO of National Claims Negotiators. I guess I
have a dog in this fight, Ron, because I happen
to have a place in Freeport that is ensured by
(01:55:01):
the Texas Wind and Hail Association, and so I'm of
course wondering whether or not if something bad were to happen,
if I'd be covered.
Speaker 11 (01:55:10):
It's going to be a tough situation if we get
some major hurricanes this season. Quia does not have money
in order to cover all the losses that they expect
in twenty twenty five at.
Speaker 16 (01:55:22):
This point in time.
Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
Okay, we had barrel. They had enough money for barrel.
Speaker 11 (01:55:27):
Correct, They had enough money for barrel, but it depleted them.
They have about fifty cents on the dollar compared to
what they their actuaries are saying they need for twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 16 (01:55:39):
At this point in time.
Speaker 3 (01:55:40):
I guess the question would be, why are they have
less assets than they need to have. It's regulated. This
insured maybe a private company, but is regulated by the state.
Speaker 11 (01:55:49):
Correct, So it's not a private company. It's actually a
state agency that they work for, the Texas Department Insurance.
They're the insurance of last resort when you can't get
insurance from anybody else, to get insurance through. And they
actually requested from TDI to have a premium increase back
(01:56:12):
in October and the state said no, and they informed
the state if they didn't get that premium increase and
they would be short on funds if there was a
major disaster in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Okay, So if there is a major disaster they are
short on funds. What happens after that? Are you just
are the people who are paying all this money for
the insurance just out of luck.
Speaker 11 (01:56:32):
It would be basically on a first come, first served
basis who gets paid. People that file their claims the
quickest and have the best documented files will be paid fastest,
and then the rest of the people will be paid
over time as they collect additional money. And that depends
(01:56:52):
on if the state allows them to issue surety bonds
in order to fund the damages that are associated.
Speaker 3 (01:56:59):
With okay, So there is no mechanism with the State
of Texas as far as funding this agency. If they
are underfunded and all hell breaks loose, the taxpayers are
potentially out of luck unless this annuity mechanism kicks in. Right,
it sounds like there's a state coffer of money that's
set aside, or with the state considering taking money from
(01:57:21):
the state budget in order to compensate homeowners.
Speaker 11 (01:57:25):
Well, that's just it. The money that is set aside
is state funded money. It's based on the premiums that
they collect off a TWIA and the money that the
state allows and the keys. So the state has already
said that they will not allow them to or they
will not bail them out. If there's an issue. Back
(01:57:45):
in twenty thirteen, when the last major hurricane event when
we're at a category five happens, they ended up being
one hundred and eighty five million dollars short of being
able to pay out all the planes.
Speaker 22 (01:57:57):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:57:59):
Well, the thing that's really sad about that is last
year alone, I've paid over four thousand dollars for that
Texas Wind and Hail Association policy. That's probably the most
expensive insurance policy I've ever paid on, And it's not
very comforting to know that despite that, there's not enough
money set aside to reimburse me if something should happen.
Speaker 11 (01:58:18):
Yeah, it's really scary the amount of money that consumers
are paying as a last resort. I mean, there aren't
very many options along the coast that will cover you,
and the ones that are able to cover you are
very very expensive.
Speaker 3 (01:58:35):
Yeah, no doubt. Okay, you have a recommendation for people,
what should just have side? I guess save a lot
of money.
Speaker 16 (01:58:41):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (01:58:41):
If you want to live on the coast of Texas,
better set aside a lot of money, Better have a
big Renny Day fund.
Speaker 11 (01:58:48):
That's the best case scenario right there. There's really no
other options at this point. In time, you better be
prepared to pay out a pocket or get a loan
from the bank to rebuild anything that's necessary that insurance
company is not going to cover.
Speaker 3 (01:59:02):
Okay, Ron, I'm not sure. I'm glad to talk to you,
but thank you for the information. I do appreciate that.
That's Ron snow For, CEO of National Claims Negotiators. Have
a great day. We'll see tomorrow morning bright nearly five am.
