Speaker 1 (00:01):
That's one of them. Seven twenty three side time here
on Houston's Morning News. The story is about how America
is becoming less Christian, and that's a problem for all
of us. Now, I don't think they're saying it's becoming
more Muslim or any other particular type of religion. Maybe
we're becoming more agnostic. Certainly, it feels sometimes like our
court system is agnostic, doesn't it It is. Stealing doesn't
(00:26):
seem to be a big deal anymore. That's a that's
a top ten commandment, but it doesn't seem to be
a big deal in our court system. So I think
that's what's meant by how us becoming less Judeo Christian
is a problem for everybody. Dave Welch joins US president
at the Texas Pastor Council. You know, some of those
teachings are pretty basic, and and our laws were based
(00:47):
on Judeo Christian values. If we get rid of those values,
then we get rid of those laws in many different ways,
don't you think.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Well it's very true, Jimmy, and thanks for having me on.
You know, this is argument right now, even going on
in Texas about having the Ten Commandments in the classroom
is founded on our fundamental history and then our found
our framers talked about that incessantly, and even as lady
as Harry Truman, for example, another President sensent. I've said,
(01:16):
there are laws were predisposed and built on the Ten Commandments.
But ultimately, where you're really talking about here is a
kind of a decay of faith in the ultimate core
principles of Christianity as a whole of the nation. But
you know one thing that's interesting, Jimmy, if you look
at the other dynamics. For example, in two thousand, the
(01:37):
US population was around two hundred and eighty two million,
and we're about three hundred and forty five million now.
Our birth rate is just barely over replacement rates. So
if massive part of our growth has been immigrant and
multicultural and multi religious, and so there's a lot of
dynamics going on here. And the other underlying story here
(01:59):
is the fact that eighty six percent of the people
still believe we have a soular of spirit, eighty three
percent believing God's literally the church. And I say the church,
I mean the pastors who are still preaching the Word
of God or preaching the traditional Gospel and doing the
work are out there faithfully, but many of our churches
(02:19):
have just gone sought. I guess if you will. They're
front a market driven, seeker, friendly, Hey, just make your
life better gospel, and that doesn't bring the answers to
tough questions of people's lives. So a lot of people
have left on that basis.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, well, you raise a great point, you know. I
think in some cases churches are trying to put fannies
in the pews, for lack of a better way to
put it, they're trying to get their attendants up, and
they're trying to do it by talking about things that
in many cases don't have anything to do with morality
and morality. It seems to to me, Dave, that morality
is getting a tougher and tougher thing for people to
(03:00):
step in to teach.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Well. It's interesting because because there's a phrase our fauniding
fathers used reputedly. It's called the morality and religion. It's
even built into the Northwest Ordinance, passed at the same
time as our First Amendment. There's a George Washington said
the twin pillars of our country, uh, and when they
when he meant that, or he said that he meant
(03:24):
that the religion produced the morality. And they say religion
in those years, of course they meant Christianity. Uh. And
when we compare the fruits of America built on the
Judeo Christian framework to all the rest of the world
and all the rest of history, we have to ask
the question, why is it that people are running here,
breaking down walls to get here? What produced the difference
(03:46):
of prosperity, peace and freedom for more people than any
place in the world. And it's the framework of the
Golden Rule taught by Christ himself, just woven into our
culture and what it was. And we do have to
fight to restore that. We need to redeem the concept
that we are all creations of God. We have an
(04:07):
accountability to Him, and we're to love our neighbor as
ourselves and to do as his word says, love, mercy,
in due justice.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, you're absolutely right, sir As always, thank you so
much for your time. That is the President of the
Texas Pastor Council, Dave Welch
