the most part.

So how do you.

Speaker 9 (02:56):

check in for.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
The latest dog government shutdown, big fight in Concrest.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
We'd used radio seven k t RH.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Five oh eight. You're on Houston's Boying News. I love
to eat turkey too. Do you like turkey? I love turkey,
but I love turkey when Thanksgiving comes around, I don't.
I guess I eat some turkey. The rest of the time,
I don't mount I don't even mind, you know, ground
turkey and some things instead of ground beef. Of when
I'm feeling like feeling healthy, turkey, Turkey is cheaper this

(07:39):
year than it was last year. Where was I at yesterday?
I was at was that Kruger or hib I can't remember,
but I was looking they have Butterball premium turkeys for
ninety nine cents a pound, and went, whoa hey, blow
a buck. That looks pretty good. And then I hear
President Trump last night on Laura Ingram doubting that Walmart

(08:00):
says that this year's Thanksgiving will be twenty five percent
cheaper than one year ago. Well, you talked about food
and inflation in general. Here is the President Laura Ingram
last night talking about food and inflation. He brings up
the Walmart index for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 11 (08:14):
We are doing phenomenally. Well, this is the greatest economy
we've ever had.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Their talking points.

Speaker 11 (08:19):
Oh course course sorry, by the way, the only thing
is beef. Beef coffee is a little high because the
ranchers are doing great.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Coffee coffee. We're going to lower some tariffs. We're going
to have some coffee come in.

Speaker 11 (08:30):
We're going to take care of all this stuff very quickly,
very easily.

Speaker 18 (08:33):
It's surgical.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
It's beautiful to watch.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
But our course is a way lower.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Now.

Speaker 11 (08:38):
Walmart came out with a statement that they do every
year for many, many decades, and they said that a
Thanksgiving meal costs twenty five percent less this Thanksgiving coming up.
Think of that than it did last Thanksgiving under sleepy
Joe Biden. That's a twenty five percent reduction.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I think that's right.

Speaker 11 (08:59):
And if you remember when I first came in the
first two days, I had a news conference, eggs so
hitting me with eggs. Eggs had quadrupled in price, and
they're screaming, I mean.

Speaker 19 (09:08):
I just got here.

Speaker 11 (09:10):
I didn't know about eggs, and brook Rollins or Agricultural
Commission did a secretary did a great job, and now
eggs are what they were.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
We got eggs down, We get.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
It all down.

Speaker 11 (09:21):
But our prices is much much lower. Their line is
prices affordability. That's the new word, affordability. It's much less
expensive under Trump.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
And you'll say, and I haven't been here long.

Speaker 11 (09:32):
Nine months is not a long time, But look at
what I've.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Done to energy. Look at the price of gasoline.

Speaker 11 (09:38):
Going from four to fifty to two fifty or two seventy.

Speaker 19 (09:41):
It's going to be two dollars gasoline.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
The reality is though, that other things, well do other
things have not retreated in prices, not that I expect
them to. I don't expect them to retreat. You get inflation,
especially in the place we had during the binding years.
There's there's no going back from that. We're with those prices,
and as far as Walmart index goes, you can quit
if you want to. Evidently, there are a few fewer

(10:08):
items on the Walmart index for Thanksgiving costs than there
were the year before. They traded out some brand name
items for store brand items, which generally brings the price down.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
But it is.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I mean, there's no doubt that Thanksgiving, at least the
food we eat at Thanksgiving, the turkey and that kind
of stuff, is less expensive this year. Now, if you
have a beef tenderline, that's a different story. Five eleven
time for traffic and weather. It's together, but there's your
big butt against them. This is a big after the
day after Thanksgiving.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
But I am still going to be thankful when Eddie
Martine gives us all our Thanksgiving turkey here at iHeartRadio Houston. Really, okay,
did you know that fifty percent of people surveyed say
they would just as soon have just the side dishes
as turkey, though.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Is that amazing? Like mashed potatoes and green beans.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
You know what, My favorite one is Terry green bean casserole.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
I make that.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
I make the world's best green bean castle. By the
way you do I do. It's not your Campbell soup
ghetto recipe.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
This is ghetto recipe.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
This is the real feel. Oh no, this is the
real deal. This takes it up a notch and a half.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Cool.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Wow, we're going to have to talk about that. I
would be happy to share with you.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
All right, put your hard hats on, everybody, we're going
to the hard work in east side.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Let's check out I ten from months Bellevue. If you're
somebody's butler in mont Bellevue, you're in.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
A good ride so far from Annawak in Winnie going
across the Lost and Old River Bridge, which is super interesting.
We're in good shape here. Once you get to Chevron Phillips,
we're looking at thirty two minutes into town.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
If you're coming in from ninety. Let's do some grand
parkway back there.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
They finished that road work at thirteen fourteen or fourteen thirteen.
I get that backwards. That's in good shape there. Crosby
looks good. We're rocking along so far, it's almost slinky time.
Skymike and the Ability Tree Experts Traffic.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Center from r ktr H Tom Tax Defenders twenty four,
our weather Centerterarrig is here. We're talking like saft taped
mushrooms and onions. We're talking cheese, ch cheese, what kind
of cheese, cheddar cheese usually, but you could use more
than cheddar cheese in it. And we're talking yeah, we're
water chestnuts. It's just oh yeah, it's a big deal.

(12:18):
This green bean cast, well, it actually actually makes me
love vegetables. One day of the year, I love vegetables.

Speaker 20 (12:24):
There's not very many good point.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
I think you figured it out.

Speaker 15 (12:30):
Well.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
It does sound French French style green beans too, not
the regular French style.

Speaker 20 (12:34):
Oh yeah, nice, Oh yeah, oh yeah, all right, well
that sounds like something worth trying.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
Hey, I don't know if you noticed style. When you
stepped outside this morning, it didn't seem quite as chilly.

Speaker 20 (12:48):
Temperatures are warming up as we were expecting to see.
Starting out in the fifties this morning, we'll wind up
upper seventies to low eighties today.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
It's a mile day.

Speaker 20 (12:59):
We'll stay tonight most of us in the sixties overnight,
staying sunny and dry right now through the weekend. I'm
gonna have to go see what happened to that area
of low pressure that was going to bring us some rain.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Maybe we'll see some of that early next week.

Speaker 20 (13:12):
But we're dry through Sunday close to eighty, low to
mid eighties, tomorrow, low to mid eighties through the weekend.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
It's really going to be quite a nice weekend.

Speaker 20 (13:22):
But you know, too much of a good thing is
getting us very dry around here.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah, the little rain would be helpful right now. I'm
fifty seven at your officials, Severe weather station, News Radio
seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Fifty nine inbound at the loop is always.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
A problem KTRH time saving traffic connect.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
On the ten.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
You know, I see these conversations all the time, and
because I do, and because I so firmly believe in this,
I try to share this all the time. I kind
of feel like I'm on a little bit of a
mission here. I'm not a Ntai college, but I'm not
pro college for everybody. And I see so many stores
worries of young people getting into the trades who are

(14:04):
just making amazing salaries right of high school or right
out of you know, trade school, vocational school making salaries
that they can't even dream about. You know that a
teacher will never make. I mean again, nothing wrong with
being a teacher, especially if you're a really great teacher,
and if that's your vocation. But at the end of
the day, maybe going to trade school makes a lot

(14:25):
of sense. We have thousands upon thousands of openings right now.
Just Ford Motor Company alone has like six thousand plus
openings just for mechanics. And these are good paying jobs.
More than that story coming up next first though, traffic
and weather together and as long as you're behaving and
the bubble wrap holds up, then this guy Mike can
play with that for a while.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Yeah, that's what I want.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
I want, like I would like to see no recks
this morning, but you know, dream on, you have enough
bubble rap the last of the whole morning. I've got
a pretty good roll of it right here. We've gotten now.
There is one thing I want to point out. If
you haven't been in this route, some of you work
at the Med Center or you know you're going try
like from East End, trying to get over toured. I
still call at the Astronoum area. Old Spanish Trail is

(15:06):
all tour up. It's down to one lane and there's
a couple of spots. Well, those lights are just horrible. First, obviously,
this time of morning, let's stick to the loop, especially
if your hazard is six ten South. I'm Skymike. It's
your Generator Supercenter dot com traffic.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Center from our KTRH stop tax defenders twenty four hour
weather Center party Claudi eighty two today, partly Claudi eighty
three tomorrow mostly sunny eighty three for the high temperature
on Friday, it is still fifty seven at your official
severe weather station, News Radio seven forty KTRH plus here
and he has an update on some of your top stories.

Speaker 6 (15:38):
Thank you, Jimmy. We're sponsored by d and m Autoly Sing.
No serious injuries reported in a crash yesterday afternoon that
involved a school bus in Montgomery County. President Trump endorses
Governor Abbot for a fourth ternament. She might be retiring
next year, but unfortunately we're not done with Pelosi's There's
another one, Christine, her daughter running for state senator in Cali.

(16:00):
At the latest news anytime at KGIH dot com. Our
next update is at five point thirty.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
The free set that sets the record street.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
This has made my whole day more efficient.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
One News Radio seven JGRH five twenty four Our time
here in Houston's Morning News. All right, plumbers, electricians, people
with building skills, building trade skills. They're in high demand
right now, and they're in high demand because we just
don't have that many people doing those jobs, at least

(16:33):
native born American especially gen Z has not been that interested.
The Big Money Show to a feature on the Ship,
I thought i'd share it with you. It begins with
Jim Farley, he's the CEO of Ford Motor Company, talking
about all the openings that his company has right now
for skilled tradesmen.

Speaker 21 (16:46):
We have about four hundred thousand people that we need.
Right this morning at Ford, we had six thousand stalls
that were that were open with no mechanics in them
to fix our view.

Speaker 22 (17:00):
If I had like one of those big red bells
in a fire department, I'd hit it with a hammer,
I'd ring the alarm.

Speaker 23 (17:08):
This is it micro and Ford CEO Jim Farley giving
America a chilling warning train the workforce for manufacturing now
or China will expand and build nearly everything that we consume.
And a new report shows the the US doesn't change course,
the country will be almost two million manufacturing jobs short
by twenty thirty three. So I'm going to come to

(17:31):
the youngest person on the panel, which I think is EO.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Kareem, and ask you this.

Speaker 23 (17:34):
We keep talking about micro sounding the alarm in the
way that he has trade schools. We've seen anti semitism
on campus. We've seen campus as a place of indoctrination.
We've seen campus as a place where you can't get
an education that's going to end up getting you a
job to pay back your loans. Why aren't more people
going into the trades. Why are there still so shortages?
Is it something that the kids don't want to do well?

Speaker 24 (17:58):
I think it's just something that they've never been they've
never seriously considered because it hasn't been seriously presented to them.
So I graduated high school in twenty seventeen. These are
just not conversations we were having at that point. Trade schools,
trade schools, vocational schools were not a popular option going forward.
Now it's become part of the conversation.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
More and more.

Speaker 24 (18:19):
And actually, when I was on the campaign trail. I
was always heartened to hear how many young people I
was interviewing who did go to vocational schools or did
go to training schools, but their efforts under way to
expand those offerings. Obviously, I think that's important. But there's
also still a cultural.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
Taboo that you need to go to college to be.

Speaker 24 (18:36):
Successful and gain the still skills that you need in
our high tech economy, etc. But a lot of part
of what's going on is those types of majors like
computer science, healthcare that you think of more job oriented,
are actually becoming more popular. But the question I have
is do you need a four year degree to learn
how to code and to get the coding job that
you want. I think that people are starting to think

(18:58):
more creatively about this, and it's good.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Well, there's a lot more out there than coding. I mean,
I know that Biden was all about you learning how
to code. That's your future of learning how to code.
But there's a lot more out there than just that.
Five twenty seven is their time. Let's take a look
at your money.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Time good MORNING, Toia welcome to our. Program if you're
just waking up and tuning, in you've heard about the
fifty year more each The President trump is talking about right.
This see, here if you're forty years, old, adiot fifty ortgaged.
You they look forward to paying that off by the
time you turn. Ninety by the, way that's the average
home buyer age is about forty as you will soon

(27:08):
Learn kevin, O'Leary who knows a thing or two about,
money is not a big fan of what The president
wants to do here with fifty year.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
Mortgages let's talk about.

Speaker 32 (27:16):
The real problem.

Speaker 33 (27:17):
Here for almost twenty two, years as infrast rates went,
down mortgages were being done at three point eight to
four point five. Percent and that's extraordinary over one hundred,
years because generally, speaking the average mortgage rate was sort
of five and a half to seven and a half.
Percent even for a while it's seventeen. Percent so people
really got used to the idea of getting a house

(27:38):
twenty five hundred square feet with a mortgage at four
and a half, percent even like floating rate mortgages at
three point nine.

Speaker 32 (27:45):
Percent but those days are.

Speaker 33 (27:47):
Gone inflation is still north to three percent right, now
and there's a lot of issues around, that and so
it's very hard for THE fed toal ore rates much.

Speaker 32 (27:54):
More and there's a big debate going on about.

Speaker 33 (27:56):
That as you, know this idea of a fifty year,
MORTGAGE i, mean think about. It if you're, forty which
is the average age of buying a home, now you're
going to be friggin dead before the mortgage is paid,
off so you're never going to own the.

Speaker 32 (28:09):
HOUSE i don't like this fifty year.

Speaker 33 (28:11):
Idea you're going to pay so much interest to save
two hundred bucks a.

Speaker 32 (28:14):
Month it's not a great. Idea you.

Speaker 33 (28:16):
Know i'm not A i don't show for. Politicians i've
said this countless. TIMES i think policy is what. Matters
this is bad, policy not a good.

Speaker 34 (28:24):
Idea, Well, kevin we know that the affordability is not
just about the interest. Rates it's about the price of.
Homes those are the two inputs that make it. Up
but if the alternative is, renting you're still against the
fifty year mortgage if it's the same.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Payment, YEAH i.

Speaker 33 (28:37):
AM i, am because a fifty year mortgage you're going
to pay almost three times more interest than a normal
mortgage seven.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
Year you know.

Speaker 33 (28:46):
WHATEVER i, mean fifty years is a, lot is beyond a.
Lifetime if the average age is, forty AS i said,
earlier you're.

Speaker 32 (28:52):
Ninety not everybody makes it that.

Speaker 33 (28:55):
FAR i, mean so you really want to end up
getting rid of your mortgage over. Time it also means
is if real rates are north of north close to seven,
percent then you're not going to be able to buy
five thousand square foot, home you're going to buy a
nineteen hundred square foot.

Speaker 32 (29:10):
Home but that's just the way the world is right.

Speaker 33 (29:12):
Now and so affordability on housing is also the input
cost what a cost to make a. House that's, labor, softwood,
lumber cost of land regulations and places Like california which
you are impossible to work, with very hard to build
a home.

Speaker 32 (29:26):
There so you got to think of it all the
other input cost.

Speaker 33 (29:29):
Issues SO i really think tariffs are part of that
because we're tariffing, software, lumber it's all in one big.

Speaker 32 (29:36):
Mix but fifty year mortgage no known then.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Net, YEAH i would, AGREE i would. AGREE i would
SAY i would rather. Rent you'd be better off running
than having a fifty year. Mortgage the interest, rate you,
know the interest cost first thirty, years would be paying
hardly anything on principle on a fifty year. Mortgage it
just doesn't make financial. Sense he can't build up equity
nearly as quickly as you could with a fifteen or

(30:00):
a thirty year. Loan i'm not even a big fan
of thirty year loans as far as that goes by
forty one time for traffic and mother.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Together AND i want you to think about. Something, jimmy
what's that Skuy? Mike what do you think of when
you think about?

Speaker 4 (30:11):
You, remember you know?

Speaker 5 (30:12):

so this could be more. SERIOUS i could certainly use your.
HELP i see a backup from. Stuckies if you get
one of those pecan, rolls you start eating. It by
the time you get halfway through, it you're, like, oh

To our next, guest a member of The TEXAS a
AND m faculty lost her job at least seemingly was
going to lose her job over some of the things
that she was. Doing i'm trying to Remember State Representative.
Harrison was it things she was doing in the classroom
that that caused all the hubbub refresh our?

Speaker 36 (34:34):
Memory, Yeah, Jimmy, No, yeah You're zach Zon.

Speaker 4 (34:37):
Wright got good.

Speaker 36 (34:37):
Morning always great to be with you and all my
friends down In. Houston and, yeah this is the. Thing
and let's back up two. SECONDS i, Mean texas has
a reputation for me a small, government conservative. State but
what in the world is going on where all these
leftist Market marxist transgender advocates had been hired as as
professors all across at our public universities all Across texas

(35:00):
and this one professor in, particular she was forcing students
to memorize And i'm not making this, up the gender
unicorn in a children's literature, class because she was literally teaching,
children and the focus area for this, class by the,
way field of study for these College english students was
three years to twelve years, old and she was telling

(35:21):
them in literally. Slides i've read the materials that, yes
children that age three years, old that is not too
young to talk to them about, queerness, gayness. Transgenderism this
is what was going on in the, classroom and they
got a brave student recorded.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
It, yeah and if the student recorded, it you raised
the alarm over at The the president dismissed her AS i,
recall and the department head IS i, Recall and now evidently.

Speaker 19 (35:45):
This is ALL i Didn't, well, yeah he didn't want,
them he.

Speaker 36 (35:46):
Said the president tried to cover it. Up it's one
of the REASONS i kept pushing and finally got him fired.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Too, Right, well now you have an interim. President his
name Is Tommy. WILLIAMS i don't know what where he
stands on any of these, issues BUT i know that
there's A TEXAS a AND m faculty panel report that
claims that the professor's firing violated or academic. FREEDOM i
didn't know that they had complete academic freedom to teach
whatever the hell they want to. Teach At TEXAS a AND.
M i don't know what's going to happen With Tommy.

(36:12):
Williams do you have a field for where this goes from?

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Here, WELL i haven't seen much good.

Speaker 36 (36:17):
YET i mean that they're having meetings and discussing audits
and this sort of. Thing but here's the bigger. Point
If TEXAS a AND m has got this faculty advisory
committee and they believe that because she was a, PROFESSOR
i got a professor fired for indoctrinating and, transgenderism is
can't amount of violating academic. Freedom they probably shouldn't be
employed either if they don't understand the most basic concept

(36:39):
That TEXAS a AND m is a public university paid
for by the. Taxpayers the men and women driving to
work right. Now it's their hard earned money that funds
their fat, salaries and it's up to the. Taxpayers the
people Of texas should get to decide what's being taught
at our public. Universities And garan darntea that thirty Million
texans aren't working their butts off to provide for their,

(37:00):
family only to have their government steal their money to
weaponize it against, them their, children and their. Values by
indoctrinating In, marxist progressive transgender and. Ideology but that's what's
apparently been happening for the last decade or more here
in the state Of.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Texas, WELL i know you'll be keeping an eye on.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
It and if things do not work out to your,
satisfaction what will it be your next?

Speaker 36 (37:18):
Step so what we should do and What i'm calling
on the governor to do right, now BECAUSE i do
these universities have proven unwilling or unable to police. Themselves
So i'm calling On Governor, abbott who immediately right, now
forget the, audit for forget the, committees forget the faculty advisory,
nonsense call a special session right now and pass one

(37:39):
of the many bills THAT i or even others have
filed to finally end all taxpayer funding of transgender indoctrination
and ALL dei policies across all of our public universities
and state.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
Agencies here's the.

Speaker 36 (37:52):
Reality we don't have to wait for another. Election we
don't have to wait till next session in twenty twenty.
Seven we don't have to wait for these faculty. Audits
the governor could snap his fingers and do one of two.
Things order his regions to end it all by the
end of the week and that would be. Done or
to call a special session so we can protect taxpayers
from having some fun transgender. Indoctrination and that's What i've

(38:14):
been calling for on the governor to do for the
last two. Months if he was serious about ending transgender
indoctrination AND dei call a special, session let us bang.

Speaker 11 (38:23):
It.

Speaker 36 (38:23):
Oh and by the, way while we're down, there let's
pass the bill to finally end property taxes.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Too that that's What i'm fighting for right.

action At Toyota center tonight To washington pregame at six point.
Thirty right here ON, Ktrh I'm Cliff saunders On Houston's, news,
weather And traffic, Station Use radio seven FORTY.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Kgrh now back To Jimmy barrett and The Houston Morning news,
Team Houston's Morning.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
News now let's. Talk let's talk about. Hobbies do you
have a. Hobby my closest THING i have to do
a hobby would be. GOLF i don't golf as much
AS i used, to BUT i used to golf a,
lot SO i could relate to when he's, singing you
don't have to be good at your, hobby BECAUSE i
was not very. Good BUT i enjoyed. IT i enjoyed

(45:39):
hanging out with the. GUYS i enjoyed an occasional premium,
cigar drinking a few, beers and you, know chasing that
white ball around the golf. Course, now, GOLF i think
could be considered a. Hobby but is it a pretentious?
HOBBY i saw a list of hobbies that generally considered

(46:00):
to attract deeply pretentious people snobs in other, words to,
me the dividing line on golf is where do you?
Play are you playing at the municipal golf course or
do you belong to a country? Club for? Example the
country club a portion might make it a little bit more.

(46:20):
Pretentious cycling made the. List, Cycling, yet, well think about
the people who are out there. Cycling they have expensive,
bikes and they're wearing expensive spandex outfits and the, gear
all the gear that goes along with, it and they
are a Little most cyclists are a little bit pretentious
about where they. Ride you, know they take over. Roads

(46:44):
they don't. Care they'll take over roads and they will
ride in places that are pretty dangerous to. Ride if
you ask, me meditation made the. List you wouldn't believe
how many narcissistic people.

Speaker 39 (46:58):
Do.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
Meditation disc, golf you know where you throw a, frisbee
it's a. Frisbee you're throwing a frisbee around the you,
know makeshift golf. Course that shouldn't be, pretentious but it.
Is audio files can be. Pretentious people who love picketball
or pick a ball part. Me some of them take
it very serious and they're very enthusiastic about. It but

(47:18):
does that make it a pretentious? Sport wine or? Hobby wine, tasting,
yes wine tasting or wine, collection that would be a
little bit. Pretentious luxury watch. COLLECTING i think collecting anything
that's luxury would be considered, pretentious a. Questrance you, know
people who ride horses and have fancy saddles and are in.

(47:40):
Competition that could be a little bit. Pretentious so here's
my question of today for You. Today you go to
The iHeart radio APP. Ktrh you just once you get,
there make us number. One in your pre said you
got that talkback button thing? There you hit, that you
get the thirty seconds first name where you're calling from
one or two, things either your hobby and whether or

(48:01):
not you think it's pretentious or. Not it will be
maybe be the judge about whether or not it, is
or people you know who have a pretentious. Hobby whatever that.
Is just go to The iHeart, RADIO i HAVE. Ktrh
hit the talkback button six ten time for traffic and
whether together make the. LIST i did not see. Kayaking.

Speaker 4 (48:19):
Know i'm actually, like you, know that's.

Speaker 5 (48:21):
A THING i, do And i'm actually on A facebook kayaking.
Group But i'm afraid to go with the group because
for one, thing they have all these.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
Special you, know you have to put.

Speaker 5 (48:29):
Your left foot in and your right foot, out.

Speaker 4 (48:31):
And THEN i think you have to wear spandex and
a helmet or. WHATEVER i just want to.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Yap anything that's got a lot of rules like, THAT
i think might be a little bit pretentious.

Speaker 4 (48:38):
UNTIL i get in the.

Speaker 5 (48:39):
Water all, right six', TEN north i gotta stop bumping.
My gums now we've got something real six' Ten north

Speaker 3 (52:55):
Fills that way sometimes, with PROPERTY taxes doesn't i mean
that's KIND. Of the biggestu it's not we have to
Crack here in texas is our reliance. On property taxes
we don't have a, state income tax but we have
a pretty good sized property tax i as BIG as
when i got here seven, eight years, ago but, still
you know for a, lot of people it's. An affordability
issue and one of the things that we are Doing

(53:19):
here in texas is we are requiring cities to put
it up to a vote to the people if they
want to raise. Your property taxes only there are four
cities that are. Not playing, along in fact citing that,
New State Law Attorney general ken paxton told, these Four,
cities including lamark, that you know they're not allowed. To
do this they can't. Just Raise taxes and lamark is

(53:41):
basically saying. We have to, we're financially strapped we. Have
no choice so this will probably end up playing its way.
OUT in court i would think joining us to Talk About.
Doctor robin Armstrong He's. In galveston County He's a. GALVESTON
county commissioner i don't know how much you know about
the City, finances in lamark but what do you know
about what's?

Speaker 4 (53:57):
Gone Wrong?

Speaker 18 (53:58):
There, DOCTOR armstrong well i know what has happened. Is
is mismanagement and they will they will even admit to
that that. It's been mismanaged the problem is they've been
the ones in, power You know The democrats and liberals
have been in powered for the, last you know fifteen,
to twenty years and so they say it's mismanagement by

(54:21):
their city, former city, manager you know but it's their
producer responsibility to make sure that the budgets. Are in
line they haven't turned in an audit in many years
and so and so they're required to turn in an audit,
to the government to the state. Government every year they
haven't done it, in many years and so they just
have not managed. Their budgets well and so they've spent

(54:44):
more than. They've taken in and now they're at the
point where they're about to be bankrupt if they don't.
Do something emergently and so now the desire is for them.
To raise taxes of course That's always. The democrats answer
but we have statute and eastern a law that just
passed as last legislative session that prevents them, from doing that,
like you said without a vote and without these, audits

(55:07):
being done and so they have to hold off on
that from a, state wide perspective from, a state law
they have. To hold off but they're saying they're going
to have, to do it and so we'll. See what,
happens you're right it's going to play out in court
and we'll. See what happens but this. Is democratic mismanagement
this is happening in these largest cities all over the country,
now as.

Speaker 3 (55:24):
Well of course the people you know holding holding the,
bag on this or the citizens Who. Live in lamark
if you don't, have any money how do you, provide
you know basic city services to your taxpayers in the
interim while you try to figure out do? You borrow
money what?

Speaker 30 (55:38):
Do?

Speaker 18 (55:38):
YOU do, well i mean they're they're they're shifting some money.
Around right now they're certainly going to have to go
into more debt to try and try and. Get this
money but this is something that every city and every
every municipality and county has.

Speaker 4 (55:53):
To deal with we're.

Speaker 18 (55:55):
Required to, pay our bills, and you know we're not
like the federal government that could just, continue, to borrow.

Speaker 4 (56:01):
Borrow borrow money.

Speaker 18 (56:02):
So what will happen is is that the city will
will go bankrupt and then they'll they'll have to sort
of unincorporate and so it it's a tragged situation for,
the residents there and.

Speaker 4 (56:13):
Then eventually they'll have to move out.

Speaker 18 (56:15):
Of that city just because the city is, so poorly
run which is happening in large cities all, over the
COUNTRY and so i think it's a it's it's a
it's a it's a TELLTALE story, of i think what's
Gonna Happen In, new york city what's Gonna, happen in
houston what's happening in all.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
These different cities.

Speaker 18 (56:30):
But these cities are going to be so large that
that it's gonna be it's gonna have a. Lot bigger
effect and so we just need To not Elect liberals
and democrats who do not know how to manage budgets
to these positions because they don't know how to manage
them and they're not doing well and, they're. Causing problems bankruptcies.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
It's, just horrible well hopefully the tax Fairs of the
Mark and other texas cities are going through this will
realize that and start electing people who are. More Fiscally,
responsible doctor armstrong thank. You as Always That's, Doctor Robin Armstrong.

jasmine crockett she was a guest On Liberal podcaster, stephanie
miller's program and when she came, Into The studio stephanie

(01:04:46):
miller got down on her hands and knees and, kissed,
her shoes well, kissed her feet and he's gone. Viral since,
then of, course you know we don't have a very
High Opinion, of jasmine crockett but these are the people
that these liberals. Look up to the ao C's And
the jasmin crockett is is is is weird as she,

(01:05:08):
seems to be as much as, she acts up as outrageous.
As she is the progressive, left loves HER and, for
i think for, A Great part jasmine crockett is playing
playing the. Role she can she can sound normal when,

K t rh that's because, it ain't. Real it's artificial.

Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
Do you get?

Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
A live tree and you all get?

Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
A live, tree i mean it's tough to beat the
smell of, a LIVE TREE but I i just i
guess it's just easier these days just to get. The
artificial tree and many people do get, an artificial tree
but if. You price them LATELY. It's at WHOA where
Was I with Home depot or low's or someplace like

(01:11:43):
that looking at artificial trees because urts is getting kind,
of BEAT up and i couldn't find a decent one
for under. Four hundred bucks it wasn't that long ago
you could buy a really good artificial tree somewhere in
that two fifty to. Seventy FIVE range but i saw
A Segment. With Matt, harmon matt Harmon He's. WITH balsam

(01:12:05):
hill i don't know if you've ever looked. At their
catalog they sell a lot. Of, artificial trees pricey, even
before tariffs. They were pricey But He's the balsam HILL,
founder and ceo and he got asked about tariffs and
supply chain and how all that is Impacting the artificial.
Christmas tree business.

Speaker 50 (01:12:21):
About Ninety percent of christmas DECORATIONS in the us Are made,
in china historically but we heard the president's request in
the first administration to, diversify supply chain so we started back.

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
In twenty eighteen twenty nineteen.

Speaker 50 (01:12:33):
To do that and so we now have over a
Third of our christmas trees Coming From other southeast asian
countries and the rest we still have Coming.

Speaker 51 (01:12:41):
In from china so what tariff saw you paying on
the trees that Come.

Speaker 4 (01:12:45):
In, from china.

Speaker 50 (01:12:46):
Well the good news for us is that consumers love
our product, and you know four to five households set
up artificial trees, in their home so it's a. Very
important product and we are done everything we can to
try to avoid those tariffs this year and being able,
to you know having to pass costs.

Speaker 4 (01:13:03):
On to consumers so we've passed a lot of many.

Speaker 51 (01:13:06):
Costs to consumers if you're, pay the tariffs have you
passed anything?

Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
Along to consumers. We absolutely have we've brought a lot
of product in at.

Speaker 50 (01:13:13):
Zero percent tariffs before, they kicked in there was some exemptions,
or not exemptions but. Pauses on tariffs we brought as
much product in then, as we could but then we've
had to pay twenty Thirty percent, on christmas trees, on
string lights there's different, types of tariffs so those coming
in have up to sixty. Three percent tariffs so we've
we in the industry have certainly had to pass, some

(01:13:34):
costs on but we're trying to help out as much
as we can and bring things in at lower rates
and absorb as many.

Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
As.

Speaker 51 (01:13:40):
We CAN start if i were to buy a six foot,
tree from you, an artificial tree a top of the line,
six foot tree HOW much would i pay now Compared?

Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
To last christmas that's that's.

Speaker 50 (01:13:53):
A great, QUESTION i mean i think, you'd probably, pay
you know for really nice top of the line tree
from us.

Speaker 32 (01:13:59):
In that height that might be something like seven.

Speaker 50 (01:14:02):
Hundred, dollars last year and it might be seven forty,
nine this year seven ninety. Nine this year, it really
depends but there's definitely an, increase we've, seen you know
major retailers raised prices ten to ten to twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
PERCENT this, year i, mean to me the big takeaway
is we're Not making artificial christmas trees Here In, the
united states at least not. For that, company you Know despite,
the president, saying you know to try to look, for
new sources all their sources. Are foreign sources not a
single tree coming from that company is MADE. In the
usa is there like nobody who makes TREES? In the

(01:14:37):
usa are there none of our allies who make trees
that we have a good relationship with and we don't have?
Big tariffs on do they have to Keep Coming from Southeast?
Asia and China that's what i'd want to know all

hobby they. Could be pretentious uh you Notice the bing
crosby you mentioned. Having a cuttie if you belong to

be pretentious if you just are playing at the municipal
golf course, with your buddies smoking cigars, and drinking beer not.

(01:23:00):
So much so the question of today today is about
hobbies and whether or not your, hobby is pretentious and
that's what we've been asking. You to do you Go
To The iHeart, radio web ktrh hit the talkback button
first thing where you're calling from what is your hobby
and do you? Think is pretentious we've determined we think
cycling is pretentious because people who you know have the

(01:23:21):
expensive bike and the spandex outfit and the helmets and,
and you know they travel in packs and they take
over roads and they and they don't care if they're
cycling somewhere that maybe was not set up. For safe
cycling that seems to me to be a. Little Bit
pretentious but i'd rather hear what you. Have to say my.

and a lot of love and pass on the back
and it's.

Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
Just, a joy. Well.

Speaker 3 (01:24:37):
That's interesting fishing. This is fishing that is a hobby that.
Could be, pretentious you know if you just got your
your average fishing pole and you're you're you're you're going
to the lake or, or the ocean and, and you
know you're just you're casting the water from the shore and,
you you know you got your kids with, you or
whatever and and it's, just you know you're passing time
and and and. Talking about life then then that that's a. Hobby,

(01:24:59):
that's pretentious now if you are renting a big ass
boat to go deep sea fishing and spending thousands of
onm thousands of bum thousands of dollars, to do it that.
Might be pretentious seven to ten time for traffic. And weather,

houston's morning news, A million. Bucks, good morning yeah if
you have an extra, Million laying around i'd be happy
to talk to, you about that if you've got looking
for other ways. To INVEST it but i think this is.
A terrific idea what made you decide that this is

(01:29:45):
something you really? Wanted To do So.

Speaker 19 (01:29:48):
I've known charlie for a, long long time going back
to when he started because He. Came to texas we
were a conservative bred state placed to raise a, lot
of money and we helped. This YOUNG man and i
was on a call with the top executive team last
week talking about my goal To Put a turning point
a chapter on every, high school campus at. EVERY college

(01:30:10):
campus I was AT u of h last night speaking.
To their chapter, And, you know jimmy since that sad
day That, we lost charlie they've had requests for one
hundred and. Thirty five thousand imagine that chapters from around
the world at all. Across the Country and, turning point,
is you know They teach Values that's. What charlie did
he taught values, about his faith, about free, markets About,

(01:30:33):
capitalism about america, about our history and that's. What he
DID and while i was on the call with him for,
ABOUT an hour i remember A story that i. Shared
with them back, in Twenty Sixteen when president trump. WAS
first elected i Was At the trump hotel at the Celebration,
party in WASHINGTON and as, I walked in charlie was
walking at, the same time and we, knew each other

(01:30:54):
and we just had a conversation and he told me,
about this dream, AND he said i want to go
to place is where there. AREN'T many conservatives i want
to go and talk to young people because he felt
peer to peer he could reach them and he wanted
to listen to them and. Talk to THEM and as
i told that story to them the first real time
we sat down and talked, ABOUT his dream I just

(01:31:16):
thought i needed to. PAY it forward I felt like
i owed. It to him he gave his life for
the things, he Believed in and. I've been blessed i've
raised a lot OF money AND i have i use
my campaign money to help other. People get elected we
use it for things like, helping you know we go.
To women's, groups you know you buy a table. At
the event we can use it for any type of

(01:31:36):
political purpose or any purpose that. Deals WITH this so
i just thought That it was it just STRUCK me when,
i met him, not MET him when i talked with,
him that night so, many years ago that, He did
it he. Made it happen he, started with NOTHING and
and i, JUST felt like i want to DO that
because i WANT to put i want to put this

(01:31:57):
campus on every, on every chapter on. Every School Campus It's,
stratford high school. By the way you know that they
just started one and they only have several, hundred students
involved and they had a. Lot of pushback do you
realize these these These, kids at stratford they got docks
by democrats and socialists just because they stood up and
they wanted. To do that and now they have the

(01:32:18):
biggest club in. The ENTIRE state so i want to
do that.

Speaker 33 (01:32:20):
On.

Speaker 19 (01:32:20):
Every campus, once you know we passed to build this
last session sent it Built ten that, i'm proud of
To Put the ten commandments, in every classroom and to.
Bring prayer back It's okay in america to stand up
for your faith no matter, what it is it's okay
to stand up for Your, values in.

Speaker 3 (01:32:34):
America it says it says A Lot about charlie kirk
that he had that profound impact on you and just
about everybody else that he met.

Speaker 11 (01:32:40):
In.

Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
His life uh you. MENTIONED the, violence i mean we've
seen a lot of Violence, OUT of well i guess
what would you expect Out of cal berkeley other than
you know what. We've seen there we won't have it
to that Extent, here in texas but there will be
places that. Won't be welcoming how do?

Speaker 11 (01:32:54):
You?

Speaker 19 (01:32:54):
Handle that uh you know the as a as A as,
a christian myself, and and uh and. As, a politician
look you're always going to run to people who don't.
Agree with you you're not going to convert every person to.
BELIEVING your views i don't get one hundred percent, Of
the vote. No one does and so you you but,

(01:33:14):
you have to. You have to you have to. TALK
to PEOPLE i told i told the, college students yesterday
be willing to, talk to, anyone any time at any
place and. Share your views it's what you do. On
talk radio. Think about it maybe they can't get in
your face because they're on. The other side of the speaker.
In the car but it's okay for. People To disagree
and charlie was so, good at that these turning point

(01:33:35):
missions that he had and when, people just disagree if
someone ratchets it up to, a higher level. Just move
on but there will be people who will listen and,
want to know particularly young people who are looking at their.
Future in it and and the Big thing, that Charlie
said And i'm the i'm the Chair Of, The present's commission.
I'm really deliberate and, after the assassination we had our

(01:33:56):
top executive on for education and we played The. CLIP
of charlie i want To be that charlie said that
our education system FAILS in and i think this is
going back to taking prayer to public school a, long
time ago. In the sixties but the question in, all of,
us any age have to ask ourselves is where did?

Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
We come from why?

Speaker 4 (01:34:13):
Are we here where?

Speaker 19 (01:34:14):
Are we going and for everybody that's that could be,
a different. Answer same answer we Are basically, a christian
nation but we, respect all faiths And that's, What charlie,
did but well where did? We come from why?

Speaker 10 (01:34:28):
Are you here?

Speaker 19 (01:34:29):
Where you're going And that's what charlie said that we
don't teach in. The education system so he, was about values,
and you know all these things that people say about
the it just was all it's just the left saying
things that. Just weren't true charlie was the least hateful
person you'd ever. Want to meet. He loved everybody and,
again the people a lot of people, came, And said
oh charlie's. A bad guy i'm going to, bring him

(01:34:51):
down YOU know when I come and i'm going to
ask him questions. He can't answer we would give, him
this answer and a lot of people change their. Mind after,
talking it's right good.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
