Now the latest news, weather andtraffic. It's more of what matters to
you. From the John Morris Servicesstudios. Well, good morning, five
am is our time now here onHouston's Morning News, I'm Jimmy Barrett along
with Sheriff Ryer Monger. Top stories. As we get started this morning,
we have a Harris County deputy ambushedand killed. One point one million still
without power, and at five aweight, when the going gets tough, we

(00:24):
find an open restaurant. Details inthe minutes ahead. You're in Houston's Morning
News. First, just check outthat warning vibe. Sky Mike is here
as digital technology continues to fail us. All am radios here for you,
and we've got it. I've gotI forty five North. We're just seeing
some just a little slow down cominginto downtown. Not sure what's up.
Maybe we have a stall right atthe merge at the b Someone Bridge.

(00:46):
So I've got a road debris onthe East Tex northbound at lower copy.
That's tire stuff over there. It'son the right side. Just don't let
it, don't run over that.Watch out for other people swerving at the
last minute. But this is outbound, not inbound. We're all good twenty
minutes from the from humbold and Skymiaelthe Generator Supercenter, dot Com traffic Center
from our KTRH top tax defenders twentyfour hour weather's under for today. We're

(01:07):
looking at partly clotty skies, fortypercent chances of seeing an afternoon shower storm
with the high temperature right about ninety. We'll get Terry Smith in here from
the Weather Channel. Get your completeforecast in about nine minutes. Right now,
it's seventy eight at your official severeweather station, News Radio seven forty
KTRH. It is time now forthe news. Here's Sheriff Fryer. Good

(01:27):
morning. Everyone is now five ohtwo on news Radio seven forty KTRH and
our top story this hour. Manhuntunderway. A Harris County deputy ambush killed
in the line of duty in northeastHarris County while we were sleeping. This
started as an assault on a pizzashop employee. The deputy found the car
that was involved with that assault talkingto detectives when he was attacked. Deputy

(01:53):
apparently was ambushed. The other detectivesin the area went to his location and
at that time they saw his undercovervehicle with multiple gun strikes in it.
Deputy died at the hospital. Hewas twenty eight years old, A five
year veteran of the department. SWATteams set up at two locations. Believe

(02:15):
they will have this suspected shooter incustody soon, think they haven't cornered.
Also tragically, a fourteen year oldwas shot and killed near Hobby Airport.
HPD says appears to be a targetedshooting there. Shooter got away on foot.
Also topping our news, I amso livid with Centerpoint Energy, one

(02:36):
angry caller to k TRH yesterday. One point one million customers still without power
this morning. Centerpoint says another fourhundred thousand will be reconnected by tomorrow night,
three hundred and fifty thousand more bythe end of the weekend. But
there's another four hundred thousand customers ofCenterpoint that could be in the dark,

(02:58):
without power in the heat into nextweek. We know that customers want to
understand the process. We know that'sstill frustrating that our priority is to get
the most people on the stonest finallycoming into the public. A Center Point
executive Jason Ryan with our TV partnerChannel two Internet access though should be under
fire, it is under fire. There are hundreds of thousands of AT and

(03:21):
T and Exfinity customers still unable toget internet. AT and T telling KTRH
here's their statement quote. Service restorationlargely depends on the extent of the damage
incurred. DUH. Exfinity claims thirtysix percent of nine hundred and seventy five
thousand customers knocked offline have been restored. I'm not one of them. Still

(03:45):
not being told what is the sourceor the cause of these widespread outages.
Is it the power failure or isit damage to their major equipment. AT
and T's making separ point look prettygood, aren't they. It would help
you, It would help you tobe to understand if they would just tell
you, well, this is whatwe're dealing with. I mean, I
don't get it. As for debrispickup, Mayor John Whitmyer's office says damage

(04:08):
from the direct Joe in May isstill an issue. They spent thirty days
picking it up, and on Monday, July eighth, they were planning and
had scheduled to begin the second pathof pickup, but then we were at
that point dealing with the impacts ofHurricane Beryl. Yeah, that's Mary Bitten,
a Whitmyer advisor. Now Cruz areworking twenty four to seven, she

(04:30):
says, to hauloff debris. ActingGovernor Dan Patrick, he came back.
He posted on social media the calllog of his conversations with the White House,
and it refutes Joe Biden's lie thatTexas was slow to ask for federal
aid. More school districts still closetoday entire list kturah dot com. It's
now five oh five. Donald Trumpsays, yeah, he'll do another debate

(04:51):
with Joe Biden. Some believe, though, Trump has nothing to gain at
this point, but Fox's David Marcusdisagrees, all of us were so incredibly
distracted by the train wreck of JoeBiden setting his own campaign on fire that
we miss a lot of the bodyof the debate. Even if sleepy Joe
is able to get some PEP pollsor something, there's a lot of opportunity

(05:12):
for Trump in a second debate.Yeah. He also not sure though,
that Biden will still be the nomineein September. Democrats reportedly are using celebrity
influencers Oprah and Taylor Swift to helpunify their party, but an op ed
in The New York Times attributed toactor George Clooney called for Biden to drop
out. Cloney's a close buddy ofBarack Obama's, and he was a star

(05:32):
host of major Hollywood fundraising events. The Biden campaign is, meantime, spending
that money just as widely as hisgovernment does. The Biden campaign is spending
fifty million on TV ads this month, on top of the fifty million they
spent last month. Political analyst ElizabethJames says it's not going to help the
Trump size is going to counter someof whatever they're doing on the Democrat side.

(05:56):
Bottom Line, voters understand what's reallyhappening here. People know that this
is something that's not going to improve. It's only going to get worse.
That plus the fact the policies arejust nuts. Although this is why Trump
is doing so well in the pollsCliff Saunders News Radio seven forty KTRH.
It's five o six. New YorkCongresswoman, AOC of the Squad, officially

(06:16):
has filed articles of impeachment against USSupreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
She doesn't like their opinions. Youknow. She calls them unchecked corruption.
The Wall Street Journal Editorial ball Boardcalls these cries of a Supreme Court
turning Maga out of touch. Theyare looking at the original text and determining

(06:39):
whether or not a statue or lawis constitutional or not, and so the
Democrats don't like that. The Democratswant a Constitution that's interpreted as a living,
breathing document that changes with their ideology. Former Harris County Republican Party Chairman
Jared Woodville, well, looking atour money, we'll get another temperature check
on our economy with the government's Juneinflation numbers. They'll be out this morning

(07:02):
around seven thirty. Real estate expertspredicting some huge changes in the housing market.
Though with the uncertainty in the electionand at the Fed right now as
to the direction of interest rates andwhat's happening with inflation, a lot of
people are just sort of going tobe sitting on their hands and waiting to
see how this plays out over time. Walter Cliff Freeman says it's a seller's

Houston's Morning News with Jimmy Verrett andSheriff Fryar. Time here in Houston's
Born News. One point one millionwithout power and they were all looking for
open restaurants yesterday. It was funto watch. I'm very close to the
Woodlands and the Woodlands got their powerback at about three four o'clock in the
morning yesterday. And there's a placewhere we frequent up there called the Republic

(08:09):
Grill, and I love that place. We're there probably once a week.
And they put out a notification onFacebook will be open at two pm.
So I say to Elizabeth, wegot to get there right at two because
soon's people find out they're open,it's going to be everybody's going to go.
We got there at two oh oneand there was a line of people

(08:30):
to get into that place could waitto you know, especially people who are
just south because the power was outjust south of the Woodlands where we live
and still not back today, bythe way, although I did some encouraging
news. I saw a lot morelights share on the way into I don't
know about you, but I sawa lot more lights on the way into
work today. Yeah. I wasgoing to put that out. Galleria.

(08:52):
All these skyscrapers over here, they'reall lit. All the floors are lit.
So I thought, Okay, theygot most of the Galleria area back
in power again. Looks like, yeah, more nearly as many dark spots
on I forty five coming in todayas I've seen in the past. A
lot more lights on there. Yeah, I have more street lights working,
some of them. Yeah. It'ssporadic, right, it's not everyone,

(09:13):
right, No, you know yousee these little pockets of darkness. But
it is progress. It's it's it'sit's tough to maintain the patience with all
the heat and the humidity and everythingelse, but we are making some progress.
Do you see They had a greatcrowded min made last night. Not
only were people going because the placeis air conditioned, but they were having
dollar dog night. What a greatcombination that was. That's perfect timing,

(09:37):
air conditioning and dollar dogs. Heck, yeah, how much is a ticket?
I don't care how much a ticketis. I'll buy a ticket five
eleven. Time for traffic and weathertogether. Oh lord, what's going on,
sky Mike. We got some lightsaround Bush Airport, and of course
I noticed north of Rankin and Richie. They've still got a lot of vantages
there. So just hang in there, everybody. You will get a normal

(09:58):
you know, your normal life backright shortly. Let's go to the north
side here. But now with thesepower outages comes all these lights out.
Let's see who is it telling me? Text says six hundred plus signal lights
are out around town and we knowto treat them like four way, but
some other stations listeners don't know,so watch out for them. And then
you have some people that are justgoing through them like, oh well there's

(10:18):
no light, there's no law,So watch out for those people especially.
I'm showing a closure on forty fivethat's not there southbound between Tidwell and that's
actually about Little York down to thenorth Loop six y ten. That's most
likely Front Detroit. I'll double checkthat for what we've got for coverage here.
And let's see we've got East TextFreeway outbound cleared to stall right past

(10:41):
the North Loop six ten. I'vegot kind of something doing on it East.
Looks like a slow down. That'sgot to be a stall right there
at the East Text Freeway. We'llget you some laneage at the five twenty
report if we can backups from Wacothough, that's real. That's inbound from
the Baytown side on it. I'mSkymike and the Generator super Center, dot

(11:03):
We have Terry Smith's standing by.No real relief yet from the heat,
Terry, So you know, forthose of us that still don't have a
power the other day, we're gonnahave to figure out how to stay cool.
That's right. Well, And thething is it's July. We're not
really going to see. If weget just typical July, that's the best
we can hope for. That's prettymuch what we've got. Though. The

(11:24):
temperatures are just a little bit cooler, but it trust me, between no
electricity and the humidity, it doesn'tmatter that the temperatures are a little bit
cooler. Well, the rain isback, folks, and so we are
feeling the humidity and other heat advisorytoday in effect, mainly because we still
have so many people without power. We have a sixty percent chance of showers

(11:46):
and thunderstorms today. The temperatures inthe upper eighties to low nineties, so
that's just slightly cooler than what wenormally would see, but the heat and
decks over one hundred. So ifyou're one of those folks without electricity,
hopefully can get to a cooling centeror someplace to cool off during the middle
part of the day. Fifty percentchances of more showers and storms Tomorrow,

(12:07):
Saturday, thirty percent chance of verySunday and Monday, just sunshine. We're
going to see those temperatures basically stayin the upper eighties to low nineties through
the weekend. Right now seventy eightat your official severe weather station. News
Radio seven forty k TRH five twentyis our time here on Houston's borning news.
Interesting to me how everything's being reportedin other cities. We are national

(12:30):
news. We are part of localnewscast all around the country. As you
can imagine, do you have TV? I don't have TV? About I
do have TV? Yes, Ido? And I also noticed how many
how many vice presidents to center Pointhave I That'd be a question I would
love to ask, because they allseem to be coming out of the woodwork
now and making appearances. One ofthem. They wouldn't until we started battering

(12:54):
them yesterday. I mean, weonly had a few minutes to ask the
questions that no one will answer, and then boy Michael Barry took off.
Yeah. Then here we go,all of a sudden, geez, somebody
finally comes out of the woodword.Well, one of them, one of
the VP the heat on them tomake them talk. That's it. One
of the vps of this one forgovernmental Affairs showed up at Houston City Council

Time to check out some of ourtop stories on this Thursday morning. Here's
share. It is now five twentytwo on news Radio seven forty k TRH.
Our headlines are sponsored by Moro Mechanical. Herris County Deputy sheriff has been
shot and killed in the line ofduty. Looks like an ambush. More
than one point one million Center Pointcustomers still without power and hundreds of thousands

(14:24):
still without Internet or cable. Businessbankruptcies jumped by thirty four percent in the
first half of this year. LatestNews anytime at KGRH dot com. Our
next update will be at the bottomof the hour five thirty. It's gonna
be a hot summer this war btest the trial our borders this election,
the hottest happenings happen right here.News Radio seven forty KTRH so one of

(14:50):
the center point vps of regulatory affairs. His name is Brad Ttuncian. I
think I'm pronouncing that close to correct. Anyway, I hope I am.
This. By the way, seeof KPRC to our television partner. He
was in front of Houston City Councilyesterday. Mario Diaz had a chance to
talk to him outside of chambers. It's a little echoy, but if you
listen carefully here he is toting thecompany line. Well, what I could

(15:13):
tell you that when you look atthe results that we've seen to get a
million customers on within forty eight hours, the planning and everything that we've done
appropriately has been working. We haveto ask and try to get the resources.
Typically what we do when you lookat from the industry perspective responding to
the storms, the storms are unpredictableand you don't know exactly what the extent

(15:37):
of that damage is going to be. So traditionally utilities will ride out the
storm, assess the damage, andthen ask for crews for us to be
able to try to work and effectivelyefficiently as possible. We want to go
ahead and start requesting the crews thatwe need. And again keep in mind
that is, you know, withthe information that we have based on the

(15:58):
store, initially thinking that it wasn'tgoing to hit us, then it was
going to partially hit us, wewere able to still secure the resources necessary.
So we were operating our operations plan, which is the limited information that
we had prior to the storm. As the storm was going we were recognizing
that we're being hit directly. We'reactually increasing the number of crews that we've

(16:22):
had, and so we feel thatwe've done everything on our part to be
prepared. And I could say inmy twenty six years history working with Centerpoint
Energy to have staging sites mobile upand operating for thousands of crews. We're
talking about creating circus sized tents tohouse and feed crews by the hundreds.

(16:44):
We're talking about tables, We're talkingabout chairs, we're talking about offices,
we're talking about staff resources to manageinventory. That inventory consisting of one hundreds
of fifty foot sixty foot poles onthe ground, all the transformers necessary they
need to be able to park andsecure their vehicles. We need to make
sure we got the porta potties outthere, all of those things that take

(17:06):
place to have that up and runningwithin fourteen hours. I've just never seen
that before. And then again, you look at in twenty twenty one when
we had Hurricane Nicholas, there wereseven hundred thousand plus customers that were without
power. We were able to restorethem within five days. We did that
Yere within twenty four hours. Wecould not have done that before. We're

(17:26):
not prepared. So I feel veryconfident with our preparation that we've done.
Unfortunately, this is a category hurricanethat we've experienced. It's done significant damage
to our facilities. We're going tohave to rebuild it, and that's going
to take time. All right. It's like going to war. The logistical

(17:48):
aspect of it, you know, cruise and equipment, and we've never cornered
them on that. I mean,we've tried to ask about that and all
we get are these platitudes. Theproblem is always it needs to be done.
Come out and tell us what's goingon. The problem is the pr
approach that all of these companies useAT and T is doing it now.
You can't get anybody from AT andT to give you a comment, just

(18:10):
how severe the damages and wear it? Oh, shut up, Just tell
us what's going on, tell uswhat the deal is, what happens,
so we can understand. By theway, if this won't make anybody feel
the least bit better around, noteven trying to, but somebody, I've
lived before I lived here, Ilived in Richmond, Virginia. Before I
lived there, I lived in Detroit, Michigan. I have dealt with similar
situations in all three cities, andthey all do it the same way,

(18:33):
and the reaction is always the same. Where's my power? But they all
do it the same way. Theyall are reactionary do these things. They
don't, you know, they're not. They don't get out in front of
the story. And that's, asyou just said, that's where the problem
is. You know, in frontof the story. Tell people exactly what's
going on, tell them what's goingon so they can make arrangements to deal
with it the way they need todeal with it in their own families.

(18:53):
You know, if it's going tobe a week, we'll tell us it's
going to be a week. That'sthe thing that supposedly they're working on for
to to give you specific information aboutwhen you will get your power back.
I mean, you've got kids athome, You've got to worry about food
on How long do you can youkeep things in ice chest? Should you
make other arrangements? You know, people need to know this stuff real they

(19:14):

It's now five thirty two on newsradio seven to forty KTRH. Our
top story this hour. Undercover HarrisCounty deputy has been shot and killed in

(21:30):
the line of duty overnight in northeastHarris County. The shooter on the run.
SWAT team set up in two locations. So began with a pizza shop
employee calling in an assault. Thatdeputy discovered the vehicle connected to the crime
was ambush. That deputy had beenon the job for five years, just
twenty eight years of age. Moreviolence to a fourteen year old shot and

(21:52):
killed overnight at an apartment complex nearHobby Airport. HPD says this was a
hit due to the fact that thesuspect shot several times from the outside window
of an apartment unit into a bedroom, striking the victim more than once.
That shooters still on the loose, also topping our news. Of course,

(22:14):
their communications could be better, transparencyand communications. We're going to hold them
accountable. We demand that they dobetter. A frustrated Houston Mayor John Whitmyre
center Point still has one point onemillion plus customers in the dark right now.
More importantly, in the heat, some four hundred thousand of those could
still be without power next week.Center Point begging for patients. We understand

(22:37):
it's frustrating. It's just as frustratingfor us because we want to get an
idea exactly what we need. Butuntil we have all that information, it's
really hard for us to just saycenter Point VP brad to Tungent with our
TV partner channel too. The powerissues bad here, even worse in our
coastal counties. They have a lotof polls that they need to replace in

(22:59):
that area. So the closer tothe coast, of course, the heavier
the damage and the more flooding therewas. Matta Gorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman.
He says it's going to take twoweeks at least to get the power
back in places like that small townof Sergeant Now. Expendity claims they've restored
internet service to thirty six percent ofthe nearly one million customers who lost it

(23:21):
during Beryl and still are without. That leaves more than six hundred thousand with
issues. There are still mass outagesfor AT and T customers too. All
beach access points west of the Galvezand Seawall are now closed until further notice.
School districts remaining closed today Conro Sciphair, Fort BENDIASDS, and entire list
at KTRH dot com. In spitethough of our current lack of power,

(23:45):
we've got to warn AI is growingand so is its big drain of power
in order to run it and share. The bottom line is renewable energy is
not going to cut it. Anda lot of people don't realize is that
your phone uses as much electricity ina typical week as your refrigerator does,

(24:06):
and when we go to AI,you can multiply that by one hundred.
That's Chuck DeVore with the Texas PublicPolicy Foundation, who says, we need

that Governor Abbott's plan for a borderwall would cost this state twenty billion dollars
and would take thirty years to build. They based that on building along all

(26:03):
twelve hundred miles, which was neverthe plan. It's not so much how
much wall is being built. That'swhere it's being built. The governor is
deploying sections of walls in strategic areas. Bob Price of Bridebart says there's natural
barriers that don't require a wall, and Texas won't need to build it.
If Trump wins in November, hewill immediately start building the walls again like

really really hot in the summertime inthe place like Houston, Texas, it's
really really cold somewhere in the southernhemisphere where it's winter, and it's cold

(27:55):
in Australia right now, except youknow, I think there's prone to climate
change reporting as anybody, and they'recalling it extreme weather. We have freezing
cold from Antarctica that we'll see Aussieshivering through a frosty weekend with a polar
blast to bring icy winds and frigidtemperatures. Wow, how bad must that

be? What's the average temperature goingto be during this unbelievable cold snap?
Are you ready? Are you sittingdown shriff eighteen degrees celsius? You know

Texas border wall. Bob, Welcomeback to News radio seven forty KTRH.

(51:59):
How much of the Texas border wallhas been built up till now, Well,
you know, the governor is movingvery quickly on building as many miles
of the border as needed in specificareas. You know, the Texas Tribune
came out with this piece over theweekend or the earlier this week talking about
that it's going to take thirty yearsto build the wall on the entire southern

(52:21):
border of Texas. Well, thatwas never the premise that you know,
that's just their liberal spin on this. The governor is building tactical wall in
positions where it's needed to stop theflow of crossings in specific areas. Right
now that the Texas crossings have droppedsignificantly thanks to the actions of the governor,
and so it's not as high apriority today as it was a year

(52:44):
ago. Yeah, and you know, we're facing a presidential election. So
do you have any doubt if DonaldTrump is alleged to the presidency that that
wall, the federal wall, willgo up to suite Well, let me
break that into two part share.First, I don't have any doubt that
President Trump is going to be thenext president of the United States. You

(53:06):
know, it's very clear to theAmerican people that Joe Biden is not mentally
physically fit to be the president ofthe United States for another four years.
Lucky if he's going to make itthrough the end of this term, and
when Trump becomes the next president ofthe United States, he will again start
building the wall and take that responsibilityoff of the backs of Texas taxpayers.

(53:29):
Do you think though that, becauseobviously it spent a long time in court
last time out, that whole projectgot delayed so much. That's why he
didn't get completed in the first termof his office. Do you think there's
a plan a foot, hopefully tobe able to get back to building that
ball and find a way to circevent all of these lawsuits that seem to
pop up in the left. Well, President Trump built seven hundred and forty

(53:50):
miles while he was in office duringhis first term. He found a way
to work around it. He wouldhave liked to have gotten a lot more
done. The courts slowed that processdown. The Democrats in Congress slowed that
down, and now we can seewhy. Yesterday, the Save Act passed
the House of Representatives to require thatyou be a US citizen to vote in

(54:12):
federal elections. That seems like itwould be a no brainer, but you
look at one hundred and ninety eightDemocrats voted against that voted against making sure
that only US citizens get to votein the races. Now, there's not
much doubt that it will pass inthe Senate. Very likely that it won't
pass in the Senate. But ifit does, President Biden has already announced

(54:35):
that he will veto it. Sothis tells you why they've been doing this
all along, Why they've allowed millionsand millions and millions of migrants to come
into this country illegally. Is becausethey're planning on giving them the right to
vote in American elections. Yeah. And it's not just the right to vote,
it's getting their names on the voterrolls so then they can take control

(54:58):
of the ballots. Oh absolutely,I mean that's how it works that these
illegal aliens don't show up to vote. A lot of them don't even speak
English. I mean, this isjust get their names on the roles when
they go to collect their welfare afterthey cross illegally, and then you've got
the voter rolls and you can haveanybody you want vote their ballots. Well.
Sure, the cost of the Americantaxpayer of Biden's folly, his intentional

(55:22):
acts of opening the border allowing thisto come in is affected Americans now all
across the country, and his party'sgoing to pair the price for it in
November. When you look at thecost of housing for low income housing,
not just the cost okay, availabilityof lowing come housing has just been taken
up by all of these people allacross the country. Wages are being suppressed,

(55:46):
cost of food is going up,all these other inflationary things that happen
when you have much more demand onthe supply side and not the increases to
keep up with it. Yep,good to hear from you. Was always

Also topping our news, Centerpoint cutmy power twenty seven hours after the hurricane

Problem is they left out. Theydon't have any powers in when they lose

it's access to information and communication transparency. Mass Internet outages continuing too. At

Texas Public Policy Foundation says our energyneed has only increased exponentially because of artificial

consumption of one thousand tarrawad hours annuallyin only two years, more electricity for
AI than the entire nation of Andyeah, means just more strain on the
Texas power grid. Renewables are notgoing to be enough to meet that demand.

allowed to vote in federal elections. That's their game. More liberal biases.
A Texas Tribune reports a Greg Abbott'sborder wall which cost Texas taxpayers twenty billion

(01:03:15):
dollars. Bob Price of Breitbarts thoughsays, look, this is based on
the Tribune thinking Texas should build twelvehundred miles a wall. That was never
the point, and even then itshouldn't be falling on Texans to pay for
border security. There's going to bea change, probably in November, of
the administration at the federal level, and then that function will go back to

(01:03:38):
the federal government, who is ultimatelyresponsible for it. Anyway, he says,
Abbott has been building where immigration isthe worst, and of course the
FEDS are doing nothing about it.It's not going to cost nearly that much.
Venezuela has had a big drop inits crime. Imagine that it didn't
happen until our southern border was openedup wide to them and our crime rates.

(01:03:58):
Of course, rose crime has droppedin Venezuela because their criminals are here

sounded so good from Governor Greg Abbottabout the storm. His first comments about
the storm since the storm, whichof course he wasn't here for he's off
on a trade mission. When wedid here right after the hurricane, the
first thing we heard about was sometrade deal that he had made no comment

(01:05:25):
at all about the hurricane. Ofcourse we have Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is
still the establishment of semiconductor manufacturing plantshere in the state of Texas, a
big one that he announced yesterday upin Temple. I get that that's important,
that's important, great, But Iknow time to make that announced.
It wasn't just over there. Iget that. I get that, but

(01:05:50):
he is a victim of poor timing. As many people. Public relations is
a lost art. I agree injust about every sector of politics. Politics
a bad optics. But you know, can you say that the state was
not in good hands with Dan Patrick. Nope, I'm not saying that everything
that he needed to do, I'mnot saying that, right, you know,
I'm just saying that if it wereme, and of course I let

make sure everything's okay. In Texas, there was several countries and it was
really aligned. You know, I'mnot trying to defend the optics of this.
I'm just saying it's very convenient forthe Democrats to try to attack all

(01:06:32):
the Republicans in this state, andthey're going to use any means that they
can, whether it's a tribune, going after the border wall or whatever.
Okay, but let's not help them. Okay, let's not help them.
I'm not going to help them, and I think I think that it was
very, very bad optics. Hedid announce, by the way, that
he is also calling for an investigationof Centerpoint you know, I think there
will be. There will be justjust as there was after the winter storm.

(01:06:56):
We'll have the same thing that willhappen. What I don't know is
if anything will change as a resultof it. It's pretty tough to put
a public relations or communications mandate inthe company. The only way any thing's
gonna change if they make some sortof determination that actually Centerpoint dropped the ball
in the way they've handled the stormis physically handling the storm, which is
different than communicating to us about thestorm and about the issues. Six forty

I know we're backed up around Cullen, but South Loop is better than
getting stuck in that toll bridge.Suck. It's sixteen extra minutes going down.
I've got West Loop down to uptown. We're crammed up from Woodway and
North Sam. There we go withthat roadwork at Aldan Westfield. That's a
real hair puller because it's also messingup the feeder road. People are trying

lights. They say they were destroyed. He is not hippy with a certain
power company. So I'm just I'mjust passing this along because I know a
lot of you want to vent. We've got the big problem Southwest Freeway.
Now that I've got some air support, they're saying no crane. I don't
know where this guy saw a crane, but that was an outbound accident.

(01:27:48):
There is a car fire a SouthwestFreeway outbound at the west Loop six'

I see backups. That's the pointfrom Greenway Plaza out from West Park

uptown, cram up an extra elevenminutes here North Sam. It's worse than

We have a little less humidity anda little less heat, but it's
really hard to notice. And westill have some rain. We've got some

Judge of Montgomery County, joins usthis morning. Judge, welcome to the
show. Good to have you on, sir. Who who's your provider in
Montgomery County? Is the Center Point? Well, we have Centerpoint is a
portion of it. By and large, it is energy, and then we've
got San Bernard co Op and acouple of other smaller ones, but primarily

(01:32:15):
it's energy. But we've been servicedalso by the guys at Center Point,
and I have to tell you we'renot happy. Okay, what tell us
about some of the problems. Yeah, well, let me tell you what
we got going on. You know, I can go to Energy. I
have to be honest, I'm nottrying to drop anybody here, but the
fact of the matters. I cango to Energy and I can find out
what their plans. I know wherethey're going, I know what they've done,

(01:32:38):
and I cannot get that information fromCenterpoint. They did send out somebody
yesterday to come out and be apart of our team this morning and throughout
the rest of this effort that we'redoing out here in Montgomery County. But
even then, when they came out, I was asking and trying to get
information. I just couldn't get it. Right now, Montgomery County is about

(01:32:59):
sixty percent, the whole county's aboutsixty percent out of power. Energy has
got fifty percent of their stuff prettymuch squared away. But again we're still
looking at Center Point in the amountthat they have probably eighty five ninety percent
still out. And uh, andwe don't when we can't give our people
any information to know when this stuffis going to be fixed, that the

(01:33:24):
Assured does because people want to know, excuse me, and they have a
right to know. They're they're theyare if you will, they are tax
paying citizens, and they have aright to know what's going on with the
energy that they that they depend uponfor the Internet, for all of the
uses that we have. You know, when we don't have electricity, man,
we are out of business. Andso when it carries on this many

(01:33:47):
days and we don't know what thefuture is, that's a problem, I
can tell you. Well, andthat's good to hear, because obviously you're
having a different experience depending upon whichpower, what a you're dealing with.
You do you have a feel atall, judge about why it's so difficult
to extract information from from center point. If a county judge can find out

(01:34:09):
from center point what's going on,how's anybody else gonna find out what's going
on? Well, you know that'smy question. Then how are we supposed
to know? And I cannot getanswers. Now we know they're doing something,
we know they're working, and theyhad about sixty five in our area.
It's about sixty five thousand max thatwe're out, and now they're down
to I think fifty seven thousand, you know, but that's over the period

(01:34:31):
of this entire time. Entergy hasjust been killing it and they've got they've
got the line workers, and they'vegot people out all over working very,
very hard. So we're working withCenter Point. We're hoping that they'll step
up and help us. But wehave people out in East County, we
have people down in the South Countyand some out in West County towards Magnolia

(01:34:53):
that are certainly going to be withoutpowerful number of days. So we still
have our county offices closedmployees, ournon essential employees are staying home. We've
got pods that we've set up todayout at Magnolia High School and also at
Bullsailis Park out in Newquay, andwe're going to be distributing meals ready to

(01:35:15):
eat, water and ice at thoselocations. Texas Park and Emergency Management has
been helping us. Yesterday we werea wood forest for a good portion of
the day distributing those things, andI want to say people are just so
thankful because they can't get water,they can't get ice, and there's a
problem here. So we're doing thevery best that we can. We have

(01:35:36):
a great team, we've been planningfor this and we're on it. How
many of the grocery stores, gasstations have backup generators so that they're able
to stay open or all those close. You know, there are some.
I sure, I couldn't even giveyou a number. I can tell you
this. Anybody that does not buildinto their business model when they're establishing a

(01:35:59):
business a generator, they're not payingattention because the loss of business to our
economic community here is monumental just becauseof this very thick So yep, yeah,
that's a major problem, major goodpoints to make. I'll tell you
what too. If I were anew homebuilder, I would be building new
homes that all have generators built rightinto the home. What a great selling
point that would be, absolutely forsure, especially if you're anyway. We're

(01:36:25):
we're we're our game here and we'revery hard. We're fixing right now.

You don't have access to food thatyou normally had. It's a miserable
situation. Center Point Energy, whichis in charge of many of the lines

have to be rebuilt. Additional crewsare arriving from out of state, including

But she probably didn't have any treedamage either. No, No,
you're right about that. No,trees didn't have to worry about that.
What has your experience been trying toget information about what's going on with electricity

(01:52:42):
being you know the crews where they'reworking. How long it's going to be
before you get power back? Didthey what are they telling you? If
anything? We have two power providersin Brasori County. We have center Point
in Texas New Mexico. They're bothstruggling to get power back on. We
had more tree damage from this stormthan any storm that I can remember.

(01:53:09):
Center Point is communicating better. TexasNew Mexico has issues communicating. We've got
center Point in our EOC. They'retalking with us. I can't even get
Texas New Mexico to send a representativeby our EOC. So it's been a
mixed bag. They're both struggling. They've got a lot of homes and businesses

(01:53:32):
that they have on their list thatthey need to get back, get power
back to people. This time ofyear, it's hot, it's humid,
and the longer we go without power, the crankier our citizens are getting.
Well, it's understandable. I mean, I think that a lot of the
coverage is certainly coverage is coming ona national level and from elsewhere, even

(01:53:54):
from Dallas. They don't understand howmany trees there are in our urban setting.
You know, it was one thingwhen I came through, and I
did get a lot of trees inmy neighborhood certainly, but a lot of
the areas were ranches that they weren'tas populous as here. This is our
entire urban area, and it's treesthat did terrible damage, trees that were

(01:54:15):
weakened, probably because of drought andfreeze and everything preceding us. Share your
spot on and we go back.Ike was sixteen years ago. We've had
the trees have come back in BrazoriaCounty. When IKE came through the east
side of the county got hit prettyhard. The west side of the county,

(01:54:36):
where we are lots and lots oftrees, was pretty much unscathed by
IKE. So it has been decadessince we have had a wind event of
this magnitude to come in and hitthe trees. We've had a lot of
growth, and then, of course, like you said, we've had the
