You're gonna be a busy voice, got Mike.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I don't plan on shutting down myself today, we will,
I'm you know, I'm expecting a lot of sunk ins
today in different spots. For now, here's to deal. We
had roadwork over the weekend on the South Loop. Looks
like they've reopened the lanes now from Almeta over to NRG. Also,
we were scheduled for a closure on the North Freeway
and that's out of the way. It looks like we're

(01:03):
good to go here. We'll see if there's any leftover roadwork.
From the night before. Otherwise, freeways rocking along. Let's treat
them like there could be an ice patch here there.
I'm skylike at your Generator Supercenter dot com traffic center.

Speaker 9 (02:51):
We're going to be activated for this event.

Speaker 8 (02:53):
It's probably going to be for multiple days, and as

a much easier event for all of us to get through.

news and information. Jeff Biggs News Radio seven key tieries.

Don't forget, we will have updates on the combing storm
throughout the day on KTRHKTRH dot com, and our Facebook

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It's now five oh four on KTRH.

Speaker 14 (04:16):
We will not waste a single moment in delivering on
our promises to the people.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
That is President ELEC. Donald Trump in Washington rallying last
night ahead of Inauguration Day.

Speaker 14 (04:28):
Within hours of taking office, that will sign dozens of
executive orders, close to one hundred to be exact, many
of which I will be describing in my address.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
They are expected to address issues related to the border.
The ceremony will start just before eleven o'clock our time
this morning.

Speaker 15 (04:46):
He is said to be sworn inside the Capitol Rotunda
due to dangerously cold weather. Instead of an inaugural parade,
he will celebrate with supporters in Capital One Arena.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
That is Foxes, Ashley Stromeyer. Don't forget that our own
Clay Travis and Buck Sexton will be live from the
inauguration this morning. Their show starts at eleven o'clock on
KTRHKTRH dot com and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Five oh five.

Speaker 16 (05:11):
Now.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Trump will delay the ban on TikTok, and the social
media app returned after going dark for several hours yesterday.

Speaker 17 (05:20):
It's not the platform that members of Congress were concerned about.
It's the Chinese Communist Party and their manipulation of the algorithms.
They have been flooding the minds of American children with
terrible messages glorifying violence and anti Semitism.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Our speaker Mike Johnson on NBC's Meet the Press, the
ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is holding this morning after
three hostages were released by the terrorists yesterday.

Speaker 18 (05:45):
The President was responsible for this release, and we all
owe him a debt of gratitude, as do all the families.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Special Envoy Steve Woodcoff didn't say that as part of
the release, Moss got back several Palestinian prisoners who are murderers.
Trump is also vowing to shut down the border beginning today.

Speaker 19 (06:08):
We want to start security border day one, but we'll
start deport deportation operation day one, when we'll start looking forward.
Three hundred thousand missing children day one, Industry day one.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Incoming borders are tom Homan and in Austin, Texas. Lawmakers
want to beef up our state's border efforts to help
the new Trump administration. State Senator Tan Parker has introduced
SB seven to eighty, which establishes a State Homeland Security Division.
That new division would oversee border security operations. Governor Greg
Gabbett recently discussed the importance of Texas working with the

(06:39):
federal government on this issue.

Speaker 20 (06:41):
Because of the size of the state of Texas, because
it's the most southern border states. Two thirds of the
entire mileage between the United States and Mexico is the
sate of Texas. A lot of reasons why Texas will
be playing a centerpiece role in closing the border and
a deportation process.

Speaker 21 (06:57):
Under the bill, the Texas Homeland Security Division will be
responsible for things like threat assessment, security drills, and monitoring
border cameras. Coriolson Who's Radio seven forty ktr EH.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
At five oh seven.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
The Texan season ends in Kansas City twenty three to fourteen.
The Chiefs now face Buffalo in the AFC Title Game,
while the Eagles play Washington in the NFC Championship and
recapping our top story. A winter storm is expected tonight
in Houston, snow across the city, possibly seven inches in
some spots. Most school districts are closed through Wednesday. The

(07:30):
airports will be closed tomorrow Orcott is not expecting any
grit issues. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news weather in
traffic station News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 22 (07:41):
What happened why it happened, the information you need to
start the day.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Now back to Houston's Morning News. We'll see we're all.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
To be living in a ghost towns starting tonight. I'm
guessing anytime after you folks get home from work and
and and don't be surprised by the way, this is
the last thing you work this week, or that that
the kids don't go to school all week. It's Martin
Luther King Junior Day. That's the other thing. So we're

(08:11):
already half of goes down because a lot of people
have the day off today, and then you couple in
the winter storm Endzo coming in tonight, especially after midnight
when the snow really gets going and there's there's just
no reason to go out into go anywhere. So between today, Tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday,

(08:32):
maybe maybe Friday, before anything starts to return to normal.
I did, that's just what we need to expect. I
guess by the way, we will be here. We will
remain open. We're a radio station, we're an information station.
We will remain open. We will continue to our show.
We're in fact, we're gonna start early tomorrow, four am,

(08:54):
even though most of you will be toes up and
resting and relaxing, and that's good. That's a good thing.
Families together, kids will play. Everybody will go out in
the snow, make a snowman if they If the snow's
well enough, hopefully it's gonna be good packing. So you
can make a snowman and have a little fun. And
see if you still have a sledge somewhere or snowshovel somewhere,
so you can dig a path for the dog to

(09:14):
go out in the backyard and go to the bathroom.
But the metro bus system is going to shut down,
the court system is going to be shut down. Schools
are already shut down for both Tuesday and Wednesday for
the most part, so again ghost down. A lot of
businesses will be closed. So I hope you've got your supplies.
If you don't have your supplies, get them today and
be prepared to stay home and cook a few meals.

(09:35):
Five ten time for traffic and weather together. I didn't
know I had to leave that at home so that
Elizabeth can get a dig a path for a swiper
to go out in the backyard do his business.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Oh, I've never actually seen a snow shovel.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Oh, I'll take a picture of it for you.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
I'll bet it looks exactly like my horse poop shovel.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
On the farm. Similar.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah, I bet it's the exact same thing. All right,
let's go.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Can you say the same thing when you're using it?

Speaker 2 (09:59):
By the way you say horse poop while you're using it,
There goes my alarm exactly. All right, let's get on
golf freeway first of all, Terry, by the way, be
ready because I'm going to defer time here. I don't
need much golf freeway. They picked up the U of
H roadwork, and they picked up the roadwork from the
Belt to the Loop that's gone south Loop al Me
to NRG. They picked that up. I would just drive
as if there could be a passive patch of ice

(10:20):
wherever this morning Skymichael the Generator Supercenter, dot Com traffic center, and.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
It's all I'll go to sell you about that?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
And so and so and Zo where did you find that?

Speaker 5 (10:31):
And so and so and so is.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
The guy that sings your name and he does every name,
including Enzo.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
I've never heard the name Inzo. Well.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Enzo is the winter store of this coming? Is it
from boys or girls?

Speaker 23 (10:44):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (10:44):
It's it's Italian I think it's like, what's the matter
for you, Nzo.

Speaker 24 (10:48):
It's probably a male name.

Speaker 22 (10:52):
Antonio and Marco Zol.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
He got a pizza parlor, and what he's not doing
to pizza, he's bringing to make a snowstorm. Terry Smith
is here to fill this end. All right, It's time
to get specific, Terry as far as when the snow starts,
how much we get, how long the winter storm warning lasts.

Speaker 25 (11:15):
Okay, well, we're nice and dry today, and that's the
good thing. We will start to get what I will
refer to as precipitation tonight that will continue into tomorrow.
What's going to happen is as we start to get
enough moisture for something to fall from the clouds, our

(11:37):
temperatures will be generally warm enough that it'll start out
as as some rain. I suspect that rain may mix
with a little bit of sleep before it changes over
to snow. I think it will quickly change over to
all snow during the overnight hours and continuous snow, perhaps

(11:57):
even heavy snow tomorrow. So we have a ninety percent
chance of precipitation tonight and a ninety percent chance of
what I'll call precipitation tomorrow, it's mainly snow. You might
have a little bit of sleep in there as well.
The winter storm warning is six pm tonight, so that
means you're in good shape until six pm tonight. After

(12:20):
that all bets are off. You might not see the
rain for a little while. You might see the rain
right at six o'clock, but it's gonna start up sometime
this evening, and then as the temperatures cool down, we'll
get that to change over to snow. By the time
it's over with, we could have snow amounts in general

(12:40):
across our listening area and the three to four inch range.
But just like we get these thunderstorms that sometimes produce
some heavier bands of rain, we're gonna have the possibility
of heavier bands of snore. So there may be some
places that pick up more than four inches of snow.
Now I heard you talking earlier, and you make a
very good point, which is obviously we're below freezing tonight,

(13:03):
we're below freezing or just slightly above freezing tomorrow.

Speaker 24 (13:06):
That's not going to help us out at all.

Speaker 25 (13:08):
Back below freezing tomorrow night, it won't be until Wednesday
that the sun is out. That's going to help and
the temperatures warm up some upper thirties to upper forties,
so we'll start to see the road conditions improve.

Speaker 24 (13:24):
Maybe late in the day Wednesday, but certainly later in
the week. We should be in better shape. So plan on.

Speaker 25 (13:32):
Staying home if at all possible, and I highly recommend
it tonight and Tuesday and Tuesday night, and then we'll
see how Wednesday turns out. But Wednesday's going to look
a little sloppy too, I suspect, yep.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
You're going to get the if nothing else, you get
a little bit of falling in the daytime refreezing at night,
and that's even worse because that turns into ice.

Speaker 25 (13:53):
Yeah, and black ice that is which black ice is
just water that is frozen, and you can't tell that
it's from I can see a reflection, but you don't
know if it's water or.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Ice, right, yeah, exactly. So anyway, don't go out there
unless you have to. That's good advice. Yeah, temperature right now,
let me double check that for you. I didn't even
bothered to look twenty eight at your official severe weather station.
News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 22 (14:19):
It's Houston's morning News, brought to you by New south
windows solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barrett and the Houston
Morning News team all the info you need to take
on the day.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
So today is day one of the Trump administration. He
gets inaugurated. Think that the inauguration ceremony starts at about
ten thirty this morning our time. He is officially president
once he takes the oath of office, so that'll happen,
I would think within an hour or so. So by
this afternoon, certainly President Donald J. Trump, number forty seven

(14:50):
will begin his latest term. What do we expect him
to do here on day one? Well more than that
coming up next first though, traffic and weather together with
you sky Mike, Oh happy day.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
All right, let's go to the south side. We did
pick up the roadwork if you're just getting up on
the Golf Freeway in front of front of you, of
h and also that roadwork between Almeda and the South Loop.
That's out of the way now. And I would just
drive as if there could be some ice here and
there anywhere there was moisture, because I had I think
twenty six at Bush Airport this morning. I'll defer time,

(15:23):
but we'll check ship channel bridges at the five thirty
and we'll open up the tip line two seven one
three two one two tips Skymike and the generators Supercenter
dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
From r KTRH top tax Defenders twenty four hour Weather Center,
Winter Store Morning starts tonight, that's through tomorrow. Uh Sunshine
this morning, becoming Claudie this afternoon. Forty one. Tonight, Clotty
was snow developing after midnight, but Terry says some precipitation
could start anytime after six pm. Low tonight twenty seven.
As far as the snow amounts go, hey, three four

(15:53):
inches before it's all said and done. Some places, we'll
probably get more right now twenty eight at your official
severe weather station, News Radio seven forty KTRH. Time now
to get you caught up on some of our top stories.
Here's Cliff, Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Your winter Storm Morning is in effect from tonight through
tomorrow night for the greater Houston area. Donald Trump's inauguration
starts at ten thirty and UT football coach Steve Starkesian
turned down two NFL head coaching interviews to sign a
contract extension in Austin on Saturday. Get the latest news
anytime at KTRH dot com. Our next update is at

(16:28):
five thirty.

Speaker 24 (16:30):
The twentieth day of January.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Well, President, Hi, Donald John Trump.

Speaker 22 (16:33):
Inauguration Day, the first one hundred days and beyond on
news Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
All right, so today is the inauguration ceremony of Donald J. Trump,
and it's going to be indoors. In case you hadn't heard,
they moved it indoors because the weather is so cold.
And I'm looking at the forecast for Washington, d C.
It's okay, it's cold, but it's it's not extreme cold.

(17:04):
It's not I don't think the kind of cold you
would narmally expect people to move the ceremony indoors. And
I'm not suggesting that I have any inside information on this,
but I have to wonder if maybe this is also
related to security. Maybe they just think it's safer for
the Secret Service to protect him indoors at the Capital

(17:28):
than it is to try to protect him outdoors. Maybe
they're worried about security nf the art, that's fine, let's
keep let's keep the President Trump safe. That's first and
foremost on my mind. All Right, Kelly on Conway and
a couple of other folks too, Kelly on Conway, Carl Rove,
and political consultant Alex Costellanos on what they expect to

(17:50):
see day one from President Trump.

Speaker 26 (17:53):
The symmestry for me is eight years ago getting there
on day one. So much activity day one, week, one
month one, the first one days President Trump. This time,
I think, Bret, the issue alignment for America matches up
with that America First agenda. He keeps talking about the mandate,
the sweeping electoral mandate to effectuate change. Expect him to
work with a certain alacrate urgency, but expected to be

(18:14):
very transparent. I think he's going to call the press
into the Oval. He'll have his press secretary out there
telling us He'll be tweeting shoes socially and nothing really
shows results like producing and delivering. Also, I just want
to say a quick word about the hostages. This happened
during his first term. He presided over the release of
dtaenees and hostages from many different countries. We had a
special session of it at the convention that year. And

(18:36):
you see even tonight at least Dorin's mother and family
crediting President Trump.

Speaker 24 (18:40):
With the release.

Speaker 27 (18:42):
I'm taken by the fact that we're going to see
so much on the first day. Kelly and I went
through this process of trying to figure out what a
president should do in the first weeks. I hope he
spends a lot of time after the first day explaining
the many actions that he takes, because the American people
are going to hear on Tuesday and Wednesday big glob
of stuff and a couple of things will pop out.

(19:05):
But it's really going to be important for him and
the White House in the administration to meticulously go and
explain and demonstrate by his personal presence what he's doing.

Speaker 24 (19:14):
It is a different communication style, Alex.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Very different.

Speaker 28 (19:17):
Remember the movie Everything Everywhere, all at once. That's how
you communicate in today's world. It's no longer a linear world.
It's social media. We're all connected in it. Sometimes Donald
Trump two hundred executive orders, you think, oh my god.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
This is chaos.

Speaker 28 (19:32):
H He's flooding the zone with receivers so you can't
cover them all. And I think you're seeing our first
non linear social media presence.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
This is what the future is going to look like. Wow,
football analogy. I like, he's flooding the zone with receivers.
You can't cover that many. So there's gonna be so
many actions going on that you'll be able to react
all of them. One of them will have to do
with the border, at least that's what we're told. A
lot of those initiative actions will have to do with

(20:06):
the border. Tom Holman's gonna be very busy on day one.
He's already in places the quote unquote borders are. Christy
Noman had her hearings on Friday for a Department of
Homeland Security, and she spent a lot of her time
talking about what a terrible job and justifiably so, what
a terrible job my Orcis did as the director, and

(20:30):
that how things are going to be different. So I
would expect a whole lot of difference starting this afternoon,
five twenty seven, our time here on Houston's Morning News.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
You are no Houston's News.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Why there were traffic plus breaking news twenty four to seven.
This is US Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 22 (20:50):

the Sean Morris Services Studios.

Speaker 5 (20:57):

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Good morning, five THIRTI is our time here in Houston's
Morning News. I'm Jimmy Barrett among Our top stories this
half are will that salt Brianley put down? Do anything
to help our roads tonight? How many Trump executive actions
will come down today? And coming up at five thirty eight.
The city doesn't want you to, but should you drip
your faucet? Details in the minutes ahead. You're in Houston's

(21:18):
Morning News First, we're checking out that morning Drive again.
Sky Mike's here.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
We just don't need those problems. Jimmy Barrett, let's go
one forty six. I want to check your ship channel
bridges this morning, and I would treat them like you know,
there could be possibly a patch of ice here or
their heart Membridge. What a pretty shot here Bytown de Laporte.
We look good if you're doing the toll bridge so far,
no sucket's here between it and two twenty five, and
we're looking pretty normal. Six ' ten the Sherman Bridge

(21:44):
for now, bud Plant two twenty five rocks. I'm Skymike.
It's your Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center from r
ktr H Generator Supercenter, twenty four hour weather center for today.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Well, we're gonna have a cold day today. Partly Claudia
to mostly clatty this morning. We have a cold advisory
that's until twelve noon high today, forty one winter storm
mornings starting tonight through tomorrow, and you'll probably get extended
after that. One to three inches of snow well in
some spots, three to four in other spots, four plus
and other spots. So we'll have to wait and see

(22:15):
what happens. But the most of the snow is going
to fall in the overnight hours in early tomorrow. Temperature
we'll talk to Terry about all this again, by the way,
in eight minutes. Temperature right now currently is twenty eight
at your official severe weather station, News Radio seven forty
k TRH. It's time for the news. Here's Cliff Saunders.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Thank you, Jimmy. It's five thirty two on KTRH. Our
top story this morning, old man, winter.

Speaker 29 (22:40):
Travel is going to be very difficult, if not impossible.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Harris County Meteorologist Jeff Lindner is a winter storm approaches
uston named Enzo, some areas could see as much as
six inches of snow. We're talking about three to four
in most places.

Speaker 30 (22:56):
That's where snowplows come in. But here's the problem, we
don't have any zero snowplows. The City of Houston doesn't
have any either. The state is scrambling some plows our way.
Your neighborhood street likely won't see any pre treatment with Brian.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Gauge Golden with our TV partner Channel two. Despite that,
tech dot Cruise are preparing highways the best they can
ahead of the system.

Speaker 31 (23:17):
We've actually been preparing for the last week, making sure
that our equipment and fleet are ready to go, that
we have sufficient fuel. That way, we are equipped and
ready with whatever this winter weather presents.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Tex Dot's Leo Flores says they're applying brine to the
major highways to keep ice from forming. But officials want
you to stay in place beginning tonight, and as a
result of that, many of our school districts have already
closed for Tuesday and Wednesday, including Alden, Konro Incite their isds.
We've got the entire list for you at ktrh dot com.

(23:53):
Other closures include the Houston Zoo and both airports Bush
and Hobby to shut down tonight after their response to
Hurricane Beryl.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Center Point.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
We'll have twelve hundred workers getting ready today. Urcott's not
expecting any issues as far as the greatest concerned, and
most experts agree that it will hold up.

Speaker 32 (24:11):
I think very well could be some blackouts at neighborhood
scales where where lines and transformers get affected. If ice
freezes onto branches and ice freezes on the lines, that
there could be blackouts in those ways. What I don't
think we'll have is is a winter storm, you're any
type event.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Rice is Daniel Cohen with our TV partner, Channel two.
We're scheduled to talk to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick at
seven twenty. Make sure you check in with KTRH throughout
today for the latest on the storm. We'll have updates
on air, online at KTRH dot com, and both on
Facebook and our ex page.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
It's now five point thirty four on KTRH.

Speaker 14 (24:48):
This is a once in a lifetime realignment that we'll
endure and lead America for generations to come.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
President Elect Donald Trump at a candlelight dinner last night
at the National Museum. Remember today's inauguration is now indoors
because of cold weather in DC. The last time in
inauguration was moved indoors forty years ago, Ronald Reagan's second term.
As for the man Trump is replacing.

Speaker 9 (25:14):
I'm not going anywhere. I'm not kidding.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Oh, you're going somewhere.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Joe Biden spent yesterday ranting during a speech in South
Carolina five point thirty five as for what Day one
looks like following the inauguration, Well, he says he's going
to sign more than one hundred executive orders. In Texas,
Congressman Wesley Hunt says Trump is ready to rock.

Speaker 29 (25:42):
You're going to see a stark change in our border
policy and our energy policy, and you're going to see
a star change and just how we run this country.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
He is ready to hit the ground running on day one.

Speaker 29 (25:51):
He has been preparing for this for the past four years,
and he is ready.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
Trump also says he'll sign an executive order pushing back
the TikTok ban. The social media platform were turned after
going offline in the US for a few hours yesterday morning.
The mainstream media wants you to think Trump is massively unpopular, right,
but Fox's latest numbers have him going into office with
a whopping approval rating of fifty two percent.

Speaker 33 (26:18):
That's a higher number than Trump has seen at any
other point in his political career.

Speaker 23 (26:22):
More than half people feel really good about him, and
that's a strong number, and it's a strong number for anybody,
but in his case, it's certainly better than what he's
used to.

Speaker 33 (26:30):
Political consultant Bill Miller says that if Trump can keep
this up, they could meet a massive midterm win for Republicans.

Speaker 23 (26:36):
He's starting in a good place, and if he does well,
Field maintain that number or close to it, and that's
a real boost for Republican chance.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
There's no question about it.

Speaker 33 (26:44):
Miller says Trump can maintain that fifty two percent by
simply getting inflation under control and keeping America out of war.
Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty KRH.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
It's now five thirty six.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Today also marks the start of mass deportations as new
borders are Tom Holman takes control.

Speaker 34 (27:01):
They'll begin on day one today and it signals America's back.

Speaker 35 (27:05):
Americans will be glad to achieve this. This is what
they voted for, and frankly, it can't come a day
too soon.

Speaker 34 (27:12):
Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies says top
priority is criminal illegals, and after sitting around for four years,
ICE will be chomping at the bit.

Speaker 35 (27:20):
Those officers and agents are ready to go and are
going to look forward to being.

Speaker 24 (27:27):
Allowed to do their job.

Speaker 34 (27:28):
She says, It'll take a while to plan out, but
we will restore border enforcement andore Perard.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
And Texas lawmakers are looking to help Trump's border security
plans with legislation to establish a Homeland Security Division.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
At Texas DPS.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
Governor Greg Abbott has promised to coordinate state and federal efforts.

Speaker 20 (27:48):
Texas has and will continue to do whatever it takes
to make sure we gain control of the illegal immigration
in the state of Texas, and that means working hand
in hand with the Trump administration and making sure that
we close the border, secure the border, and aid them
in the deportation process.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
It's now five thirty seven. The Rockets played Detroit today.
Pregame is at noon on Sports Talk seven to ninety
and recapping our top story. It's winter storm end Zo
moving in and expected to bring us about three to
four inches of snow across the area through tomorrow. Some
spots could get seven inches of snow. Most school districts
are already closed through Wednesday. The latest closure list is

(28:26):
at KTRH dot com. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news,
weather in traffic station News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
Stay Informed, Stay on time.

Speaker 22 (28:37):
Houston's Morning News continues with Jimmy Verrett and the Houston
Morning News Team.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
All Right, David, I got pros and pipes.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
Yet, I think Dana down the hallway from Sunny, I
think she's already got some frozen pipe issues that she's
dealing with in her home. I don't know what about you.
I spent I spence probably a couple hours on Saturday,
in a couple more on Sunday, moving plants right back
into the garage again, getting the space heater to keep
the garage at above freezing temperature.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
What else did I do? I?

Speaker 3 (29:10):
Oh, the big thing I did was I have a
water purification system that sits outside of the house. And
those are like steel tanks, needless to say, sub freezing
whether it's not good for the plastic pipes around them
or for the steel tanks.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
So there is.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
I've always had a certain amount of insulation, you know,
the foam insulation, the fuam little sleeves you put on
those on those pipes out there, but not on the
tanks themselves. So what I did well, and I did
this to last year is I bought some insulation, home
insulation and like a home depot those kind of thing,
and you packed insulation around the entire system and then

(29:50):
took an old grill cover and taped that around to
keep the wet and the snow out of it. And
hopefully it'll be fine. Wrapped a lot of towels though again,
the you know, the faucets outside have a certain amount
of insulation on them, but I've wrapped them in towels
and tape boxes over the top of them to kind
of cut down on the wind. It served me well

(30:11):
a couple of years ago when we had the big freeze,
so hopefully it'll work well again now. I did note
that Houston Public Works has asked us to not let
water continually drip from your faucet, saying it can lower
water pressure across the area. Instead, they say to leave
cabinet doors open to ensure your pipes are exposed to
warmer air.

Speaker 12 (30:29):
Well.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
I would agree that the cabinet door's open is a
good thing. But you talked to just about anybody in
the plumbing business and they'll tell you that you should
trickle water from a faucet in sub freezing temperatures if
the pipes in particular are exposed to the cold. So
if you have if you have a faucet, let's say
you have a bathroom and the the the pipes are
on the outside wall of the house at that point,

(30:54):
then you would want to drip, drip some water from there,
just to keep the water moving through the pipes. That's
most plumbing experts would tell you to do that. The
constant movement of water through the pipe can help prevent
the ice from forming and building up, which can block
the pipe slope and cause pressure to build up. So
drip the fawcets most. You can either listen to the
City Houston or you can listen to a plumber. I'll

(31:16):
leave that choice up to you, but they recommend dripping
fawcets most at risk and it doesn't take a lot,
just a small little trickle five point forty one time
for traffic and weather together. As we check in again
with Skymine.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
You can you just turn your.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Water off completely, right which I did at the getto
drain your pipes if you can. I led the pipes
and turned the water off at the ghetto house this morning.
Let's go around town. I'm just taking a random look here.
Probably gonna defer, Terry, so be ready. But Golf Freeway
at Scarsdale. Looking around here, Go Freeway looks good. Now
we'll register about twenty minutes from Clear Lake up Nord Freeway,

(31:51):
Party Toll Road. I'm just south of the Woodlands. Boy,
that's a pretty shot. We are all good to go.
Twenty two minutes from Sawdust Road down Katie Freeway way
out fourteen eighty nine.

Speaker 5 (32:02):
That's nice.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
I'm glad they finished the road work right right in
that area. That's out of the way. We look good
from Berkshire in smooth sailing on the southwest for now.
We'll be here when the first shoe drops in the woods.
So far Sugarland twenty twenty minutes even I've been to
the canyon northbound. I'm in the Generator Supercenter dot Com
traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
From r KTRH Generator Supercenter, twenty four hour Weather Center.
Terry Smith is here. Cold weather advisory right now. Winderstorm
warning cumming Terry and the command performance of the Houston
Ballet beginning probably around midnight tonight when the roads get icy.

Speaker 24 (32:34):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 25 (32:35):
And I was just noticing that flight operations are suspended
at both of our airports starting at midnight tonight in
anticipation of the wintry weather and conditions could delay or
completely cancel flights prior to that. We'll be watching that too,
all right. You mentioned the cold weather advisory, and that

(32:58):
doesn't continue until temperatures today low to mid forties. It's
tonight and tomorrow that are the primary concern, but Tomorrow
night snow picnic either and Wednesday may be a slow improvement,
but limited improvement, so that moisture is starting to make
its way into Southeast Texas tonight. Initially, I'm expecting that

(33:19):
we'll see some rain to begin with, because I do
believe that we'll have enough air that is not thirty
two degrees or colder that most of it will be
at least rainfall. But then it's going to transition pretty
quickly into that a little bit of sleet and then
the snow. And once the snow gets going, that snow

(33:41):
is just going to keep on going, and we'll get
some snow tonight, with the bulk of the snow I
expect will fall tomorrow and mainly tomorrow morning before it
tapers off in the afternoon.

Speaker 24 (33:51):
At the end of the day. We're going to wind up.

Speaker 25 (33:53):
With generally somewhere between two to four inches of snow,
but there will be areas that see heavier snow than that.

Speaker 24 (34:01):
And basically what this means.

Speaker 25 (34:03):
Is we're all staying home and just chilling out tomorrow
and Tomorrow night and definitely the first part of Wednesday.
I don't know how much better things will be by
Wednesday afternoon. We're back down below freezing. Wednesday night, we'll
finally get up above freezing. Thursday and Friday will be
in the upper forties to low fifties Thursday, load of

(34:26):
mid fifties Friday.

Speaker 24 (34:27):
So some improvement by Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Right, you might as well stay home because nothing's going
to be open teputure right now twenty eight at your officials,

What you need to know for the day ahead.

Speaker 22 (34:41):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
All right, so today we get to experience, at least
starting late night tonight, we get to experience what winter
is like in the northern towns in the Northern States
of America. You could get to have a little piece
of Ohio or Michigan or New yor or you'll remember
very quickly White as you don't live there. Let's go
ahead and do this. We've got Mark Keo, Montgomery County judge.

(35:10):
We're gonna see how they're preparing for the storm. We'll
talk to him next, but first we've got traffic and
weather together, starting with you, Sky makee all right.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Let's go. Let's go to the north side. Speaking of
Mark Keo and Montgomery County. Hey, Mark, we're looking good.
From Woodlands down. Let's go all the way back to Conroe.
One oh five down. Piece of cake. So far on
the south end of forty five Golf Freeway, Easy Drive.
We don't have our wreckhead at the south loop twenty
one minutes up. Skymike on a Generator Supercenter dot Com
Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
From our ktr H Generator Supercenter twenty four hour weather center.
We have a cold weather advisory until twelve noon, then
a winter storm morning starting tonight through tomorrow, partly to
mostly Claudi this morning and then Claudi for the afternoon.
Forty one rain and sleet and snow developed mainly after midnight.
We could get three or four inches in a lot
of spots, maybe a little bit more in a few places.

(35:58):
Temperature right now is twenty eight at your officials severe
weather station News Radio seven forty k TRH. We're checking

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Five fifty three. Our time here in Newston's Morning News.

Speaker 30 (36:46):
YEP.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Real Winner hits Houston starting late night tonight, joining us
to talk about it and preparations they're making the Montgomery County.

Speaker 5 (36:53):
Here's Judge Markel. Good morning, Judge, Hey Jummy, how are
you today?

Speaker 3 (36:58):
Doing fine? How many snowpolls do you have in Montgomery County?

Speaker 36 (37:00):
Mark Man, We've got a bunch.

Speaker 5 (37:02):
They're ready to roll.

Speaker 36 (37:03):
We're expecting, we are expecting some snow. Let me tell
you counties under the county is under a winter storm warning,
as you can imagine, and it's going to go from
six pm tonight through six pm tomorrow. And that's that
is a warning. So we know it's coming, and so
we've directed non essential public safety offices, non essential offices

(37:27):
to be closed. But our public safety and our Office
of Emergency Management we're up and running. Man, We're prepared
for this.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
So there's only so much you could do, because if
you don't have it's not like we have a bunch
of like we're kidding about the snowplows. Obviously we don't
have that kind of equipal because we don't normally need it.
But so what kind of preparations can you do?

Speaker 36 (37:49):
You know we have we we have sanded in some
areas assaulted, but the previous as we've done in the past,
we have taken care of our bridge is. You know,
there are some roads that are very, very tough that
we will do with some extra standing on those. But
I don't care what we do in our area. You

(38:11):
by the end of the morning, most of that stuff
will be you know, you run over it enough, you're
on the road. You don't need to be on the road.
And the fact of that is that it goes away.
So we're going to be constantly working at keeping these
roads open and working with text thought as well to
help us.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
To do that.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Well, obviously you'd like people, Yeah, you'd like people to
stay home if at all humanly possible, even if you
have four wheel drive. I happen to have four wheel drive,
and I've driven in snow before, but if that turns
to ice, four wheel drive won't matter on ice.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
Will it.

Speaker 36 (38:40):
No, that's a problem. Yeah, that's that's true. And the
tree of roads are just not going to last the
duration of the winter weather. So we're urging people to
limit their travel to only a central travel. As you
just mentioned, so power outages, you know, truthfully, we don't
expect it, but we are prepared and were warming centers

(39:00):
that are going to be prepared, and we work with
our power companies to be ready. We've also been in
contact with Acting Governor Crichton, who is in contact with
us and is ready to assist and things get worse.
So we've collaborated and planned with all the agencies in
our area and offices throughout the county. You know, we

(39:23):
Montgomery County takes great pride in being prepared. Here we
are in a situation. We've been watching it.

Speaker 5 (39:29):
You know.

Speaker 36 (39:29):
I ordered this to them to start getting prepared last Wednesday,
and sure enough Thursday they started really acting on it.
And now we've gotten advance of this storm and disaster
declaration has been issued activating our emergency management plans. And
we do that so that we can ensure that we
have resources that are available to us from the states.
So what does the county is ready?

Speaker 3 (39:51):
What is your biggest concern post storm? Are you concerned
about frozen pipes at schools and other public buildings for example?

Speaker 36 (39:57):
Oh yeah, yeah, but we have a heart freeze like this.
We experienced this a couple of years ago and I
sat at the Office of Emergency Management and talk people
off the ledge. It was amazing the amount of pipes
that were broken. To great concern to us. The schools
are going to be closed, and so you know, in
terms of the safety of the kids on the road,

(40:19):
I think the biggest thing is is that if we can,
if we just hope and pray that we won't have
freezing rain, but we can't guarantee that, and we can't
guarantee that if it does, know that it won't melt
them then freeze again. That's the big concern. Now you
have a very dangerous situation where there's ice on the roads,
and it can be very tough on people. So we
just urge people to if they're able to stay inside,

(40:42):
stay at home and just wait this out.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
All right, Judge, thanks as always, do appreciate it. Stay
warm and stay safe.

Speaker 36 (40:49):
Thank you, all right, Jimmy, thank you you've been.

most of the area. Most school districts tomorrow are closed
for Wednesday as well. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News
Weather in Traffic station k TRH.

Speaker 22 (47:50):
Listen to News Radio seven forty KTRH on the free
iHeartRadio app. It's all your news, music, sports, podcasts, and talk.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
Never sounded so good. Six oh late our time here
on Houston's Morning News. So we don't have Christy Nome
in place yet as the Department of Homeland Security, but
we do have borders are Tom Homan, who will be
on duty on day one, so I guess he will
be doing the directing. If if we're going to have

(48:21):
mass deportations starting this week, and Tom Holman says we
are here he is yesterday, I'm foks.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
Well, look, I.

Speaker 19 (48:29):
Want categoryized raids. They're going to be targeted enforcement operations,
and ICE goes out. They're going to exactly who they're
looking for pretty much where they'll find him. It's a
well planned operation. They'll know who's possibly who's in the household,
including children. Just a well planned enforcement operation. Every target
of this operation is well planned and the whole team

(48:50):
a team will be out there for officer safety reasons.
Sanctuary cities it's unfortunately, you would think the sanctuary cities
they if they care about public safety, if they care
about the safety of the communities, they let us in
their jails. I mean, that's where we want to arrest
the bad guy. We want to arrest the bad guy
in the safety and security of a county jail where
the officers saved, the community is safe, and the aliens safe.

(49:13):
Whether the sanctuary city are going to force us into
the community because they're go release that public safety threat
back in the community, which is a huge public safety threat,
and we're going to force officers into the communities and
we'll find the bad guy on his turf. We as
access who knows what weapons, So it's very dangerous. But
when we find the bad guy, he's probably with others,
others that are in the United States illegally. They may

(49:34):
not be a criminal priority, but we're not walking away
from them. So these sanctuary policies are won't force us
in the communities, and the result it's going to be
exactly what they don't want. More aliens arrested, More clad
was arrested because they forced us in this position. I mean,
we have got over seven hundred thousand illegal aliens in
the United States with final orders to removal. President Trump

(49:55):
has been clear from day one, from the campaign on
to today that he's going to secure the border and
he's going to have the deportation operation. There has to
be consequences for bolin or loss to joy country. Leading
as a crime. Then to commit a crime against your assistant.
President Trump's had it. He has, he has no patience.
We're going to start this operation. We're going to fulfill
the mandate and the American people gave him on election day.

Speaker 3 (50:17):
There you go. I don't know that they will start today,
but they will be going on this week. And I'm
hearing that at least five to ten of the executive
orders coming down today have to do with the border.
Six ' ten Time for traffic and weather. Together's you
check out the drive once again. Here's skyline all right.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Trendstar is actually calling this a series of stalled vehicles,
which tells me road debris. But I don't see them
picking anything up. Jennifer thinks this is a wreck. We're
I'm forty five golf Freeway right at the South Loop.
We knew something always happens right there about this time
of morning and I've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight nine vehicles here. Let's call in the left line inbound.

(50:54):
We're smashed after waffle House. Stay the course on the
Gulf and it looks like you're moving well to be
a little careful if you're taking the ramp that goes
over to the westbound side. Let's hit some tip line
and we've got Uber Mike's standing by. He's got a
Bush update. But let's go with Mike from Magnolia.

Speaker 39 (51:10):
Hey's got mic everything coming in for Magnolia's dry and
no ice.

Speaker 40 (51:15):
Hey, and if you have an applian swashing machine or
dishwasher that has.

Speaker 41 (51:18):
A delayed start before you go to bed at night,
send it to come on like at two o'clock in
the morning, and that'll run some water through your fight.

Speaker 2 (51:25):
Bobby Durn. People that have that know what he's talking about.
I don't have anything nice like that, but there we go. Mike,
Magnolia banana sticker. Let's for time. Let's move Uber Mike
to six twenty. He'll have an update on Bush Airport
and how to get around. Skymike on the Generator Supercenter
dot Com traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (51:41):
From r ktr H top tax Defender's twenty four our
weather center. The storm is called Enzo. Enzo is on
its way here to the greater Houston area and Benu
where you are. As far as how much snow and
ice we're likely to get, but good guest, seems to
be somewhere in that two to four inch category there, Jerry,
would you agree with that.

Speaker 25 (52:01):
Yeah, that's a fair estimate of what most of our
listening area could expect. What's interesting about end Zo this
particular storm is the closer to the coast you are,
the more likely you are, excuse me, to see the
heavier snowfall further north, like our northern suburbs up toward Conroe.

(52:27):
I think the snowfall amounts will be a little bit lighter,
primarily because the amount of moisture that's available is going
to be concentrated closer to the coast, which that is
not unusual at all. What is unusual is the extent
of this cold air, the depth of this cold air
that has settled in and settled in starting yesterday. So
it's kind of a confluence of events that don't usually

(52:51):
happen and so making for a very unusual situation.

Speaker 24 (52:54):
So we are dry today, folks.

Speaker 25 (52:56):
It's going to be a cold day though, low to
mid forties starting tonight. Looking for initially some rain to
start because we're above freezing, and then that may mix
in with some sleep and eventually some snow as we
head into the overnight hours, with the snow becoming the
primary thing falling from the clouds tomorrow. It looks like

(53:17):
heavy snow at times tomorrow, mainly in the morning. It
does taper off by the afternoon. That's the good thing.
The bad thing is our temperatures are right at freezing
or barely above freezing, so everything is going to stick
tonight and tomorrow. It's a ninety percent chance of something
some sort of precipitation tonight and a ninety percent chance

(53:39):
tomorrow and again tomorrow, mainly snow. Generally, I'm thinking three
to four inches for most of us, but again, lighter
snowfall to the north and to the west, our heaviest
snow here around the Houston metro area to the east
and to the south. We will dry out Wednesday, Thursday,

(54:00):
and Friday. It looks like we're dry through Friday with
sunshine that'll be beneficial. Temperatures will gradually warm up and
I really don't think that temperatures are going to be
very helpful until maybe Thursday and Friday, when we're up
above freezing for a significantly longer period of time.

Speaker 3 (54:17):
Okay, sounds like we're gonna get a little snow globe
effect sometime during the storm. All we're just coming down
like the inside of a snow globe.

Speaker 24 (54:23):
Yeah, that'd be kind of picturesque.

Speaker 5 (54:25):
That makes it sound like it's going to be fun.

Speaker 24 (54:28):
As long as you're not driving it.

Speaker 5 (54:30):
Yeah, as long as you can stay home, you're fine.

Speaker 3 (54:45):
Well, it looks like we're all get to well not
all of us, but most of us are going to
get a snow day starting tomorrow. Tomorrow prov Wednesday, Virtually
all the school systems of the ICDs are all shut down.
They called it early. They know that there's no way
those school buses gonna be running, and there's plenty of
other businesses that'll end up being closed Tomorrow and probably
Wednesday as well. I will talk to Brian Murray. He's

(55:06):
at the Harris County Office of Emergency Management about preparations
in Harris County for the big storm. I will talk
to him next. First though, traffic and weather together, starting
with you, skuy Mike.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
I'll go fast, go freeway. Nord found out that they
cleared all nine vehicles. It was just a very minor
chain reaction. I've got just a moment for Uber Mike.
He's at Bush Airport. A what's okay?

Speaker 9 (55:26):
Mike?

Speaker 42 (55:26):
Just left Bush Airport. I will tell you right now,
C is completely backed up because all the flights that
have been closed for tonight. Drop off at a rival

the Mirriaud Hotel drop off over there.

Speaker 2 (55:40):
Have David Tramp all right outstanding. I'm in the Generator Supercenter,

Speaker 3 (55:45):
From r KTRH top tax Defenders, twenty four hour Weather Center,
Cold Weather Advisory until noon today. Winter storm mornings start
at six tonight, runs through six pm tomorrow, could get
extended after that. We'll have to see partly to mostly
clotting for today. Preaty one for the high temperature, the
precipitation will begin tonight after six pm, but the most
of it will fall in the overnight hours. Generally, Terry's

(56:08):
thinking three to four inches on average for most of
us from this storm. Less if you're to the north,
up around Conroo, for example, current temperature twenty eight at
your official severe weather station. News Radio seven forty k TRH.

Speaker 22 (57:04):
Happens here on Youth Radio seven forty KRH.

Speaker 3 (57:10):
Yeah, it's gonna be a snow day around here for
tomorrow and probably for Wednesday. Brian Murray joins US Harri's
County Office of Emergency Management. He is their Deputy Emergency
Management Coordinator. Harris County is a big place, but as
big as it is, there are no snowplows in Harris County?

Speaker 5 (57:26):
Are there? Brian? You know there aren't.

Speaker 8 (57:29):
I do understand that our friends of tech Dotter are
looking to bring in some down from around the state,
but it's kind of hard to justify millions of dollars
for equipment that you use once every twenty years.

Speaker 5 (57:37):
Exactly.

Speaker 31 (57:38):
We do.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
We do what we can do well at least this
is in eighteen ninety five, you know, Valentine's Day, eighteen
ninety five, we got a twenty inch snowstorm here in Houston.

Speaker 5 (57:46):
Can you imagine that?

Speaker 35 (57:49):
You know?

Speaker 8 (57:49):
I used to live on the shores of Lake Erie,
so yes, unfortunately I can, but I can't imagine it here.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
No, No, it's gonna be crazy here. So what are
the things that you can do? How can you get
Harris County ready? I guess you could put some salt
and brine on the roads right and hope it helps
at least a little bit.

Speaker 8 (58:06):
So we know that the folks at TEXTA are partners
in the city, the folks of the Toll Road Authority
have been treating roadways and bridges and overpasses.

Speaker 2 (58:13):
That's all the going to go so far.

Speaker 8 (58:15):
I think once we start getting to the point where,
you know, we start seeing the snow falling and sticking,
we get some ice mixed in there, we're pretty much
gonna need to be staying at home. I would say that,
you know, wherever you are at dinner time tonight is
probably where you need to look at staying through you know,
most of Wednesday.

Speaker 5 (58:31):
Yeah. Other than that, you.

Speaker 8 (58:32):
Know, I think our biggest focus has been on making
sure that we had warming centers available, not just for
our you know, residents who are experiencing homeless, but maybe
some folks who for one reason or they don't have
access to heat. We've managed to, you know, county and
immediate partners have thirty five warming centers on tap around
the county. I believe the City of Houston has another
ten with their multi service centers. So we're actually looks

(58:52):
we feel pretty good about there right now, and we
can always flex to open up somewhere if we have to,
you know, after that, I mean, it's all on each
of us as an individual to take care of people, pats, pipes.

Speaker 9 (59:05):
And plants.

Speaker 3 (59:05):
Exactly right, exactly right. Frozen pipes are probably one of
the biggest concerns I would think that most residents have
because we're here to be down probably most spots down
around twenty degrees for tomorrow night, and that can cause
some problems.

Speaker 8 (59:19):
Yeah, sure, Canon, you know, I feel like you know,
from what I'm hearing, we may not quite get cold
enough where you know, we have to worry too much
about it. But I know we spent all day yesterday
taking care of our exterior pipes and plants, and you
know you've still got some time before this evening to
do the same at your house.

Speaker 5 (59:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
One of the things that it usually happens, can sometimes
I should say happen in the big city like Houston
with this kind of weather, especially when it gets particularly colder,
water main breaks. How concerned are you about water main breaks?
Because if you start having all that water end up
on roadways with those cold temperatures, we're talking about skating rink, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
Mean, and that is something we'll have to watch for.

Speaker 8 (59:55):
You know, as I said, we feel like most of
the roadways are going to be pretty well impassable anyhow,
So that's kind of an insult to injury situation if.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
That happens, Jimmy.

Speaker 8 (01:00:02):
But you know, I think again, that's something for the
government folks to worry about the individual's need to focus
on their own properties.

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
All right, Brian, thanks for John, I appreciate it. That

Speaker 43 (01:02:19):
What our plan is right and what we do in

wait for the snow to melt, and so that should
be happening on late Wednesday, if not on Thursday.

why we get ready is public safety.

I don't know. I mean, I just don't you know.
We don't have like two things to compare. Obviously, Centerpoint

and Jessica Vaughan with the Center for Immigration Study says

(01:06:08):
it begins with the criminal illegal aliens, but nothing is
off the table.

Speaker 35 (01:06:13):
That would include these overstayers. We can expect a very
broad effort to restore immigration enforcement and restore the integrity
of our laws against all the parts of the system
that have fallen into disrepair.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
She adds that Ice will be ready to roll after

which establishes a State Homeland Security Division. That new division
would oversee border security operations. Governor Greg Gabbett recently discussed
the importance of Texas working with the federal government on
this issue.

Speaker 20 (01:06:55):
Because of the size of the state of Texas. Because
it's the most southern border states of the entire milage
between the United States and Mexico, is the state of
Texas a lot of reasons why Texas will be playing
a centerpiece role in closing the border and a deportation process.

We don't want a new world made of snow. Six
thirty eight is our time here on Houston's boring news only.
And I could make it sound like it's going to
be so nice and peaceful and wonderful. It's going to
be a mess, is what is going to be, and
there's nothing we can do about it. We might as well,
I guess you might as well sit back and enjoy it,
especially if you are not among the people who have

(01:08:31):
to go to work and deal with it. Certainly, we
have doctors and nurses and first responders who are going
to have to deal with it. It would be best
of the rest of us who do not have to
be out not be out so we can clear clear
room for everybody else. They're gonna have a hard enough
time getting around. Where does this where's this likely to
rank in Houston history? And at the end of the day,

(01:08:54):
it will never come close. I don't know that it
will ever again see. I suppose it could happen, but
we'll never again see in Houston. What happened February fourteenth,
Valentine's Day, in February fifteenth, those two dates in eighteen
ninety five, that is the standard that is virtually impossible
for us to ever hit again, hopefully, because we got

(01:09:17):
twenty inches of snow here in Houston. Can you imagine
twenty inches of snow. It's the all time record. Fifteen
inches of snow hit Galveston on those dates. Then we
drop way down. The one that I guess we could beat,
or could get very or tied with, or get very

(01:09:39):
close to, is some a storm that happened sixty five
years ago. That's how rare this is. February twelfth, nineteen
sixty we had four point four inches of snow here
in Houston. It's the second highest snowfall total for Houston
recorded history. So if we beat that, then this storm
coming Enzo would be number two. December twenty fourth and

(01:10:01):
twenty fifth, two thousand and four, we got a rare
white Christmas snow started to fall right around midnight Christmas Eve.
Houston got about an inch. Missouri and Ford ben though
got two to three inches. Down to the south, Victorian
Bay City got nine to twelve inches of snow. That's
December twenty fourth, twenty fifth, two thousand and four, December tenth,

(01:10:24):
two thousand and eight, December fourth, two thousand and nine,
only years on record where we had had measureable snow
back to back years. That's the only time that's ever happened.
December seventh or eight, twenty seventeen my first Houston snow
a Hurricane Harvey course and the Houston Astros Championship and
snow in December wasn't much, but it was a little,

(01:10:47):
and we haven't had much since. But here we go,
three to four inches likely and a chance that we
could end up with the number two recorded snowfall in
Houston history. Traffic and weather together, Let's check out that
drive again. Here's kind of my it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Snowed in nineteen seventy three. Jimmy, I remember, Okay, my
baby sister darnless must have been a dusting.

Speaker 5 (01:11:07):
Didn't make the list.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
It was a big deal to us. You know, we
got off school. Let's go. Oh meanwhile in Minneapolis, you know,
I have that weekend thing at our sister station cool one.
A wait, they're throwing a party. They're having an ice
festival up there in Turkey Bowling. Let's do the north
side here I forty five. We're going down to from
the Woodlands all the way downtown. You got an easy

(01:11:29):
right now, twenty two minutes here East tex Freeway, New
Canyan rocking along from the sticks. We're actually just twenty
six minutes so far, not finding any ice patches. We
cleared up all that spackle on the Golf Freeway Golf
gates south Loop six ' ten. That's out of the way.
Stay the course justin from Crosby's on Iten.

Speaker 42 (01:11:46):
Guy B moved dailing on I from THELU to the
west to a little.

Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Bit of traffic over.

Speaker 36 (01:11:53):
At Taylor Street construction.

Speaker 44 (01:11:56):
People are driving.

Speaker 42 (01:11:57):
Great this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
You have that outbound roadwork from downtown to Heights Boulevard.
We're down the three lanes westside. Mary's having an easy
time on the Katie Freeway.

Speaker 41 (01:12:05):
We love you so much.

Speaker 40 (01:12:07):
Stay warm, We.

Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Love you right back. Please take off tomorrow. I'm Skyline
gets your Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 5 (01:12:13):
You are getting a little defensive driving practice in today.

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
It'll come in handy from our katrh Generator Supercenter twenty
four hour wather Center. Terry Smith is here. I don't
know if you heard, Terry, but if we get above
four point four inches in Houston, it'll be the second
largest snowfall in Houston history, recording history.

Speaker 24 (01:12:30):
That's just crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:12:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 24 (01:12:32):
What was our number one snowfall?

Speaker 5 (01:12:34):
Him out eighteen ninety five? You ready? Twenty inches?

Speaker 32 (01:12:43):
Ough?

Speaker 24 (01:12:44):
Okay, that's very interesting.

Speaker 5 (01:12:47):
Yes it is. Nothing's ever going to equal that again,
we hope no.

Speaker 24 (01:12:51):
And yes, I was gonna say that is definitely a record.
I do not want to see broken at any point.
Oh my goodness. Okay, Well, well here it is, folks.

Speaker 25 (01:13:01):
We are dry today, So make the most out of
today to plan on limiting your whereabouts.

Speaker 24 (01:13:08):
Hopefully confine to a warm.

Speaker 25 (01:13:10):
House tomorrow and maybe even part of Wednesday as well.
Temperatures today lo to mid forties. Here comes the precipitation tonight.
I do think it initially will start as liquid, but
then as the night wears on and the temperatures continue
to cool, And it's not just the surface temperature. I mean,

(01:13:30):
that's where we focus our attention, because that's where we're
hanging out, but it's the temperature matters between the ground
and the cloud, that whole distance that impacts whether or
not it's snow or freezing rain or sleet or rain.
But as the night wears on, this is going to
be changing over to snow and primarily snow by tomorrow morning.
And Tomorrow morning is when I think we'll see the

(01:13:52):
bulk of the accumulating snow, and I expect it to
taper off by the afternoon. Generally speaking, I think two
to four inches is a good estimate of what we'll
see across the metro area, but there could be places
that see a little more than that, and then obviously
some places that may only get an inch. Here's the

(01:14:13):
next problem. Once we get done with the snow, we
are at or below freezing Tomorrow night, barely getting above
freezing Wednesday back down below freezing Wednesday night, and then
finally beginning to warm up with a little more length
of temperature above freezing Thursday and Friday. So the moral
of the story is it could be really tough driving

(01:14:35):
conditions for a lot of folks until sometime Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
Yeah, right now, twenty eight at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KRH.

Speaker 22 (01:14:45):
You are commute, you are forecast your news. It's Houston's
morning News, brought to you. Buying new Southway, those solutions.
So the Trump and augraal has been moved indoors, which
I find kind of interesting. They say they're doing it
for the weather, but I looked up, you know, some
historical facts on the inaugural weather. When Brock Obama got

(01:15:07):
sworn in, the high temperature for that day twenty eight,
the high temperature today in Washington, d C. Twenty six.
They had thirty mile for our wins during the Obama
inauguration two. Yet they held that one outdoors. Makes you
wonder about security, doesn't it. We'll have more than that
story coming up next. First, though, traffic and weather together,

(01:15:28):
starting with you, sky Mike. Let's go downtown. I hit
ie forty five. I got a stall. Now, this is
a sticky spot if there ever was one.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
I forty five Nord Freeway coming into town right before
the b someone bridge at Hogan and this guy's on
the left shoulder. I can't tell if they even have
a shoulder there. We'll call it a left lane.

Speaker 29 (01:15:46):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
We've got a text dot wall of death inbound, same
story on it. Ten outbound westbound coming out of downtown

It's fine for now, Skymike and the Generators Supercenter dot

until twelve noon today. Winter Storm Morning starts at six tonight,
runs through six pm tomorrow, partly mostly cloudy forty one
for today, Claudie, with rain probably changing over to sleet
and then changing over to snow. We could have anywhere

(01:16:18):
from probably three to four inches before it's all said
and done with in most spots. Tepature right now, currently
is twenty eight at your official severe weather station, News
Radio seven forty KTRH. Get you caught up on some
of our top stories on this Monday. On this inauguration day.

Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
And speaking of that inauguration, Donald Trump will take the
oath of office before eleven o'clock Houston time. Most Houston
school districts are closed through Wednesday because of the coming storm.
And remember I mentioned that type draft of Bob Dylan's
Mister Tambourine Man last week. Well it's sold for auction

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
You know, there's the part of me that wonders if
the inauguration is moved indoors as much for safety reasons
as it is for the weather. I mean, this is
the Secret Service worried about being able to protect President
Trump at the inauguration today. And if they are, then yeah,
move it indoors. I guess you can tell us whatever
you want about why you did it. But you know,

(01:17:32):
if that's the case. Fine. From News Nation, they did
a piece on the inauguration being switched to indoors, quote unquote,
doe to the weather. Here's a security expert, her name
is Jennifer Coffendeffer.

Speaker 45 (01:17:44):
On the one side, you have all of these changes
that need to be made that are going to affect
the security location of ballards, Where are the individuals that
are going to be doing the protection, where they're going
to be staged, all the security issues at Capital w
and Agrena.

Speaker 5 (01:18:01):
It's a big change.

Speaker 45 (01:18:02):
But on the other side, it's so much easier to
protect to protectee that is enclosed interiorly, So that's a positive.

Speaker 46 (01:18:11):
Our correspondents in DC have been showing as the perimeters
and the security just leading up to this in the
last few days. What can we expect security in DC
to look like on Monday. How big of an operation
is this?

Speaker 45 (01:18:23):
This is a huge operation, Hannah. This is involving hundreds
and hundreds of law enforcement individuals. It is including all
the agencies local, state, federal that will be available. Look,
there will also be SWAT teams and tactical contingents that
are there and on the ready. In addition, you're going
to have a big intelligence network that's going to be

(01:18:46):
working the crowds and working to see undercover any threats
that could be roaming.

Speaker 46 (01:18:51):
On the backdrop of multiple assassination attempts that you have
not You and I have talked about on this show,
the New Year's attack in New Orleans. How can law
enforcement and intelligence agencies work together to prevent another attack.

Speaker 45 (01:19:03):
Well, the FBI is largely responsible for really determining what
threats exist. They are looking at chatter, they are looking
at all inform and information and running down each of
those leads to determine what might be most important. You know,
the problem with this situation is it's coming from a
lot of different areas. You have individuals who absolutely hate

(01:19:24):
Trump and who really celebrated the assassination attempts believe it
or not, and wish they would have been successful. So
you have that, you have extremists that actually just want
to make a stand and want to do a terroristic
act like what we saw in New Orleans. So this
is a multiple pronged attack that could be you know, happen,

(01:19:45):
and they need to thwart that. So they're going to
be looking at all contingencies to make sure nothing happens.

Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
Yep, Like I said, Scarity will be on high alert
and maybe having an indoors can just put us all
of these in feeling the the President's going to be
safe all right. Time for the timeline para. Tickets to

We'll have to get.

Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
Better telling the story of Houston every day. Quite a
story use Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
Somehow, it's harder today to imagine the swimming pool in
Houston summer that it normally is, although I am I
am turning up the pool to like seventy five to
eighty degrees in an effort to try to help the
tropical plants that are around the pool stay alive here
during this next freeze, and of course to keep the

(01:29:35):
pipes going to make sure there's no problems with that.
But you know, from first hand experience, I can see
why this made the list. There's always lists that come
out about the best and worst things you can do
as a homeowner from an investment standpoint. In other words,
money that you put into something that hopefully you get
back when it's time to sell your home. So this

(01:29:56):
is a list of the things that are not a
good idea to do if what you're looking as a
return on your investment. Number one the swimming pool. While
there's no denying how enjoyable a swimming pool can be,
they really aren't worth the investment, at least according to
this survey. Pools can seem like a dream come true,
but they come with a lot of upkeep, high maintenance cost,

(01:30:18):
rising water and energy bills, and they can also put
off potential buyers, especially moms with young kids who have
this innate fear that their child's going to fall into
the swimming pool and drown to death. The best thing
to do, I think personally, and this is what we
did when we bought our home, was to buy one
where the previous owner had spent the money putting in

(01:30:40):
the pool, knowing that you don't get the investment back.
It's not unusual to spend one hundred thousand dollars on
a pool. It's not going to have one hundred thousand
dollars worth a value to your home. Number two extensive landscaping,
but exotic plants, they can be very, very expensive, and
as we find out, when we have weather like this,

(01:31:00):
it's tough to keep them alive. So if you have
palm trees and those types of things, it's part of
your landscaping, and they're not the kind that can survive
the freezing temperatures we're going to have. Then you're gonna
find yourself spending a lot of money in the spring
coming up with something else. Garage conversions also made a list.
You live in a small home, you're thinking of converting

(01:31:21):
your garage into an officer a guest room. The biggest
problem is that you take away the garage. There's a
lot of people want to have a garage to store
their stuff and to keep their cars. Motorized blinds made
the list. A sink in the island made a list
people prefer to have The island is a gathering place,
not one that has a sink in it. Smart home
technology systems, soaking tubs, outdoor pizza ovens, built in fish tanks,

(01:31:46):
and high tech toilets all made the list of bad
investments seven to ten. Time for traffic and weather together.
Hot tub not list is bad investments you have a
hot tub in the ghettohouse.

Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
I want one so bad. I want a hot tub.
So we'll to somebody out there which way you want
to go? Pick a direction, any direction, nor let's go south.
Let's go south, all right, let's hit to eighty eight.
Up Stephen F. Austin not affected by the cold. Strangely,
as we're coming up from Angleden whoo, look out coming
up from Mambo twenty two minutes. Piece of cake cup
this way. We had this weird thing on the golf

(01:32:18):
freeway earlier at the south but there was nine vehicles,
a chain reaction thing. Maybe there was a little piece
of ice there. Gone forget it. Stay the course here,
we're looking good. Oh. I want to mention that we
are going to cover Golden Triangle. We're going to cover
you through this winter event too, as far as freeway.
So thanks for listening to us. Doug from Port Natchius

(01:32:38):
he thought the timeline answer was wrong, Jimmy, Doug. That
was the state of the Union, not the inauguration. So
we did have the right here been from a task

kind of picturesque.

Speaker 5 (01:33:20):
I'm ready for it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
We're in the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (01:33:24):

not going to be a good period on this time.
Tomorrow morning would be the worst place to be would
be on the Houston Expressway. Yeah.

Speaker 24 (01:33:36):
And here's the thing.

Speaker 25 (01:33:38):
You make a real good point about driving, and especially
if you're from the North and you are used to
driving in snow, what you're not used to is the
roads not being taken care of the same way we
take care of roads in the north exactly because we
don't need the snowplouds like that. The other thing is,

(01:33:59):
you know a lot of fun things. Oh, I've got
four wheel drive. I'm good to go. No, honey, you're
not good to go. You're gonna get stuck. Chances are
so please. I'm not telling you to stay home because
I want to ruin your fine. I want to be
able to talk to you Wednesday or Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:34:14):
So yeah, the borol drive is fine if you're on snow,
but if you have any icy stuff underneath it, or
if we get the freezing rain or sleet as a
part of it, then it won't help you with that.

Speaker 7 (01:34:24):
Well.

Speaker 25 (01:34:24):
And the tendency is, and I say this based on experience,
the tendency is to go too fast on the roads.
Even if you have reduced your speed, people tend not
to go slow enough or leave enough space in between cars.
It's just him an instinct. I don't know what it is.
All right, folks, we're dry and we're in fine shape today.

(01:34:46):
It is a cold day though, low to mid forties.
It's starting tonight that this storm gets cranking. Initially, I'm
looking for some rain and maybe even some sleet, which
is the little frozen ice pellets, and then the snow,
and that will be changing over to mainly just snow
as we head into the overnight hours and tomorrow morning,

(01:35:08):
and I think tomorrow morning is when we're gonna see
the bulk of the snow, the bulk of the accumulation.
Generally two to four inches of snow across our listening area,
but they could be places that see more than that,
so extra caution. Temperatures tomorrow will be right at or
just barely above freezing, so a lot of this is

(01:35:29):
gonna stick and it's going to hang around Tomorrow night.
And Wednesday's a cold day as well, with some sunshine.
We're going again in the upper thirty step or forty,
so we will see some melting, but.

Speaker 24 (01:35:40):
Then we're down below freezing Wednesday night.

Speaker 25 (01:35:43):
A little more sunshine, a little more warm Thursday and
Friday should help to improve things. But tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday,
hang tight, stay home, be safe.

Speaker 3 (01:35:52):

at seven twenty let's do traffic and weather together. Started
with Usky Bike.

Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
We're looking downtown I forty five southbound before the be
Someone Bridge at Hogan. That's a stall left show a
left lane watch out. Kind of a sticky spot too.
And you have roadwork on the Katie Freeway outbound. We've
knocked out two lanes from downtown outbound to Heights Boolevard
Skymike on the Generators Supercenter, dot Com traffic Center.

Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
From r katrh Top tax Defenders, twenty four hour Weather Center,
cold weather advise me. That's until twelve noon today, winter
storm morning. It starts at six to night, runs through
at least six tomorrow night. Hardley Cloudie too. Mostly cloudy
for the day today with high temperature of forty one.
We'll probably start off with a little rain and sleet
tonight and then switch over to snow early tomorrow morning.

(01:37:01):
We could get three to four inches on average in
a lot of spots in the greater Houston area. Temperature
right now is still twenty eight at your officials severe
weather station, News Radio seven forty KTRH. Let's get you
caught up on some of our top stories here on
this Monday, on this inauguration day.

Speaker 5 (01:37:17):
Here's Cliff, Thank you, Jimmy.

To Houston and now I can stay in the now
News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 3 (01:37:48):
All right, the Lieutenant Governor of the great State of
Texas is in Washington, DC for the inauguration, where the
temperature high is going to be about twenty six degrees
for the high temperature today course, it's go indoors, Lieutenant
Governor Dan Patrick. Welcome to Houston's Morning News on a
scale of one to ten. How glad are you that
this is going to be an indoor ceremony today?

Speaker 16 (01:38:09):
You know, to be honest with you, I sent a
note to the President and sent a text to him.
I guess it was Thursday, and I said, this President,
thousands of Texas, myself will be there no matter how
cold it gets.

Speaker 5 (01:38:23):
So we would have been there. I've been.

Speaker 16 (01:38:25):
This is my third inauguration. One back in five with
George W. Bush his last year, and there was so
much snow on the ground. There were no cars, you
couldn't get anywhere, You had to walk everywhere. It was
I don't know, a foot of snow. And then the
last time on inauguration Day in sixteen, it was forty
eight degrees.

Speaker 5 (01:38:41):
Wasn't bad, little rainy. This would have been cold, but
we would have endured it.

Speaker 16 (01:38:45):
But you have to put in consideration all the police officers,
all the maintenance people that have to work, everything that
has to be done for them to be out in
this super cold temperature for that long wouldn't have been
and it wouldn't have been good for a lot of
the people. So I think he made the right decision.
And we totally respect that, but we'd have been there
if need be.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
Yeah, I think too that, don't you that having it
indoors probably makes people a lot very much relieved.

Speaker 5 (01:39:10):
That's indoors.

Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
From a security standpoint, it's a lot easier to secure
the Capitol rotunda than it is the secure the area
outside the Capitol.

Speaker 16 (01:39:20):
Well, there's about thirty miles of fencing in and around
the city, and you have in the bubble and outside
the bubble. And you know, I've seen this, you know,
at other inaugurations and when we have the Republican conventions
in Tampa and Cleveland, and I'm trying to think.

Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
Of the other one I went to. But you always
have this type of security.

Speaker 16 (01:39:38):
Obviously it's higher now for what's happened this year and
the loan, you know, the lone Wolf actors. But I
feel very safe, and it's been you know, the traffic
is tough and you just can't you could see your hotel, Jimmy,
and you just can't maybe get there because you have
to go two or three blocks to find an opening,
you know, a gate in the fence where.

Speaker 5 (01:39:55):
They scan you.

Speaker 16 (01:39:56):
So that's to protect not only the president and everyone
involved with the inauguration, but the people, so they've done
a good job here and and it's you know, it
was the right, it was the right, It was the
right call to make.

Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
For sure.

Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
Of course, President Trump will be taking over around eleven
thirty when he's sworn in office. There'll be a lot
of executive orders coming out today, and we're hearing that
quite a few of them will involve the border.

Speaker 16 (01:40:20):
Absolutely, and you're going to see this president do what
he did in his first term, and that was to
make sure the border is closed down and as safe
as it's ever been. That last year that he was
in office, Jimmy was the best the border has ever
been in terms of people coming across the border.

Speaker 5 (01:40:38):
You have to put in a comparison.

Speaker 16 (01:40:40):
In his last term it was somewhere around four hundred
thousand over the course of the year, and Joe Biden
it was between two and a half and three million.

Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
So that's the number. You know.

Speaker 16 (01:40:50):
When I in twenty fifteen, when Governor Abaitt and I
were elected, we put in about eight hundred million a
year on border security in a in a budget four
hundred millionaire. Let me correct that four hundred million year,
eight hundred million in the budget and this last couple
of budgets in this budget it's four billion because Biden
didn't do the job. Now we have that in our
budget now to work with the president. But hopefully we

(01:41:12):
won't have to spend all of that money. But we're
going to be there and do everything we can to help.
I also had a great conversation meeting with Elon Musk yesterday,
who loves being in Texas, and we talked about a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:41:24):
Of issues how he can help us on the on.

Speaker 16 (01:41:26):
The grid issue, the hyper the hyperlink which is you
know the loop that goes under the cities for transportation,
the neulink is I have this bill that we're going
to pass that is for dementia, to put a significant
investment in dementia. And he has neurotechnology technology that he
is said that wrong forgive me and as we're working

(01:41:48):
on that and to do a doze for Texas after
he finishes with the federal government.

Speaker 5 (01:41:54):
So I had a really good conversation with.

Speaker 16 (01:41:56):
Elon Musk yesterday and that so that was that was
it was really good meeting.

Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
Meanwhile, you're missing all the fun here in Houston. We're
gonna get like maybe or three or four inches of snow.
They're shut down the airports tonight. Are you worried about
getting back?

Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
No, I'm actually going to stay over.

Speaker 16 (01:42:13):
I have a meeting in Washington tomorrow, so I was
going to stay here for that, and I believe Governorrabbit
is coming back in the morning his schedule. And you know,
I've lived in Texas now. I came here in nineteen
seventy nine, and I think I've seen maybe five snows,

(01:42:34):
but three to five inches. And I have great grank
eight grand kids. I mean they're great grand kids, but
they're not great grand kids, you know what I mean.
I have eight grand kids and I'm going to miss
it with them because three to five inches of snow
is like terrific.

Speaker 3 (01:42:48):
Well for kids, if you get back in about forty
eight hours, we'll save some for you.

Speaker 5 (01:42:52):
How's that?

Speaker 36 (01:42:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:42:53):
Well, I saw the temperature. I looked at the weather
this morning.

Speaker 16 (01:42:56):
I saw the temperature was going to be fifty nine
I think on Thursday or Friday. So it won't last long.
So get out there and enjoy it, make a snowman
while you can. But look this is we went to
the Texas Black Time Bootsball, which is the hottest ticket
in town. There were about three thousand people there last night,
and it's the one that everybody wants to go to.
I remember in sixteen, Vice President Pence's chief of staff

(01:43:19):
called me and said, Governor, we understand you have some
tickets for the Black Time and Bootsball.

Speaker 5 (01:43:24):
Could you spare someone? I said, how many do you need?
He said forty? I said forty.

Speaker 16 (01:43:29):
He said, well, he has a busload of his best
friends coming down from Indiana and that's the only place
they want to go. Everybody wants to go to the
Texas Ball. So that was last night and it was terrific.
And you know, the people are just so optimistic, they're
so hopeful. And that's everywhere I go to me and
all over the country, and I think in around the world.

(01:43:51):
I mean, the president won't be the president for a
few more hours, but look what is already happened just
by the impact of him getting elected. So I can
only shudder to think what would have happened I had it.

Speaker 5 (01:44:03):
Gone the other way.

Speaker 3 (01:44:04):
I think I think we are gonna say, I think
it's like a giant reset button having been hit in
for everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:44:12):
Yeah, it's a reset button.

Speaker 16 (01:44:13):
I'm happy because I talked to the governor and the
governor the president on election day. He called me an
election day, when I thought he'd be calling other states,
like there were swing states, they called and and we're
just talking about a couple of things. We've developed a
really nice friendship over ten years. And I told him
that morning, I said, you're going to be You're going
to get three hundred and twelve electro votes.

Speaker 5 (01:44:33):
You're going to win.

Speaker 16 (01:44:34):
And I believe that because they had a better ground
game and just a better game and all the mistakes
Biden had made. So I felt comfortable in South Carolina
and Georgia, Nevada, in Arizona.

Speaker 5 (01:44:42):
But I really believe Jimmy that.

Speaker 16 (01:44:46):
Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, they're all the same voters. They're
the same people, hard working, god fear and law enforcement supporting,
you know, strong military support, want to border scared. All
those were the same people. And so I thought if
he won one, he'd win all three, and which he did,
and that got him into three twelve.

Speaker 5 (01:45:05):
So I've noticed the three. Every time I sign a
little text to him, I sign it, you're three twelve guys.

Speaker 16 (01:45:10):
But we're working on some things with the administration, and
it's going to be nice. When he was president, Governor Abbott,
myself and Ken Paxton, others, we were here a lot
in the White House. We're in the Executive Office building
working with his team, and we had zero communication with
the Biden administration. And so to be able for a
state as big as we are, the eighth largest economy

(01:45:31):
in the world, if we were a country, we'd be
the fiftieth in population and we'd be the thirty ninth
in land size.

Speaker 5 (01:45:36):
I mean, we are a nation state, and.

Speaker 16 (01:45:39):
To have a relationship with the president where we can
literally the governor myself that we can pick up the
phone and we're always polite and respectful.

Speaker 5 (01:45:47):
Calling cold. We're going to call it staff and ask
if they're free.

Speaker 16 (01:45:51):
But if we call, he'll return the call, I mean
as soon as possible.

Speaker 3 (01:45:55):
And if you won't be wasting, you won't be wasting
your breath. We've got to run, serve. But enjoy your
day in Washington, d C. Thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (01:46:02):
It's a great day.

Speaker 16 (01:46:03):

Our top story.

Speaker 29 (01:47:41):
Travel is going to be very difficult, if not impossible.

Speaker 4 (01:47:45):
That is Harris County Meteorologist Jeff Lynn. There a winter
storm approaching Houston. Most areas to see three to four
inches of snow.

Speaker 30 (01:47:53):
That's where snowplows come in. But here's the problem. We
don't have any zero snowplows. The city of Houston doesn't
have any either. The state is scrambling some plows our way.
Your neighborhood street likely won't see any pre treatment with Brian.

Speaker 4 (01:48:05):
That is Gauge Golden with our TV partner Channel two.
Despite that text, DOT is prepping Houston highways the best
they can.

Speaker 31 (01:48:12):
We've actually been preparing for the last week, making sure
that our equipment and fleet are ready to go that
we have sufficient fuel. That way, we are equipped and
ready with whatever this winter weather presents.

Speaker 4 (01:48:27):
Tex dot's Leo Flora says they are applying Brian to
the major freeways to keep ice from forming, but officials
want you to stay in place if you can. Beginning
tonight again, we cannot hammer this enough. Many school districts
already closed through Wednesday, including Aldine, Conroe, and sci Fare
the entire list at KTRH dot com. Other closures include

the airports, which will shut down tonight after their response
to Hurricane Beryl. Centerpoint, we'll have twelve hundred workers getting
ready for this particular system or KATT not expecting any
grit Ish use. Most experts agree that it will hold up.

Speaker 32 (01:49:02):
I think very well could be some blackouts at neighborhood
scales where where lines and transformers get affected. If ice
freezes onto branches and ice freezes on the lines, that
there could be blackouts in those ways. What I don't
think we'll have is is a winter storm. You're a
type event.

Speaker 4 (01:49:19):

Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
President Elect Trump.

Speaker 4 (01:49:41):
Last night, Today's inauguration moved indoors because of freezing temperatures
in the Washington area. The last time this happened was
nineteen eighty five, Ronald Reagan's second term.

Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
As for the man he's taking over for.

Speaker 9 (01:49:55):
I'm not going anywhere.

It's now seven thirty five.

Speaker 4 (01:50:16):
As for what day one under Trump looks like he's
about to sign more than one hundred executive Ordersuson Congressman
Wesley Hunt says Trump is ready to roll.

Speaker 29 (01:50:29):
You're going to see a stark change in our border
policy and our energy policy, and you're going to see
a star change and just how we run this country.
He is ready to hit the ground running on day one.
He has been preparing for this for the past four years,
and he is ready.

Speaker 4 (01:50:43):
Trump has also said he'll sign an executive order to
push back the TikTok ban. The social media platform is
back online after going offline for a few hours yesterday.
The mainstream media wants you to think that Trump is
massively unpopular, right but Fox's latest numbers have him and an
approval rating of fifty two percent heading into today.

Speaker 33 (01:51:03):
That's a higher number than Trump has seen at any
other point in his political career.

Speaker 23 (01:51:07):
More than half people feel really good about him, and
that's a strong number, and it's a strong number for anybody,
but in his case, it's certainly better than one has
used to.

Speaker 33 (01:51:15):
Political consultant Bill Miller says that if Trump can keep
this up, it could mean a massive midterm win for Republicans.

Speaker 23 (01:51:21):
He's starting in a good place, and if he does well,
Field maintain that number or close to it, and that's
a real boost for Republican chance.

Speaker 5 (01:51:28):
There's no question about it.

Speaker 33 (01:51:30):
Miller says Trump can maintain that fifty two percent by
simply getting inflation under control and keeping America out of war.
Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty KRH.

Speaker 4 (01:51:39):
It's now seven thirty six today, also marks the start
of the mass deportations with new borders. Aren't Tom Holman
taking the helm with Trump?

Speaker 34 (01:51:47):
They'll begin on day one today and it signals America's back.

Speaker 35 (01:51:51):
Americans will be glad to see this. This is what
they voted for, and frankly, it can't come a day

Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
Texas lawmakers are looking to give Trump's team a boost.
Governor Greg Abott is promising to coordinate state and federal
efforts at the border.

Speaker 20 (01:52:30):
EXUS has and will continue to do whatever it takes
to make sure we gain control of the illegal immigration
in the state of Texas, and that means working hand
in hand with the Trump administration and making sure that
we close the border, secure the border, and aid them
in the deportation process.

Speaker 4 (01:52:47):
State Senator Chan Parker Is introduced a bill to create
a state Homeland Security Department to oversee all aspects of
border security operations. Recapping our top story, winter Storm Endzo
is expected to bring us between three and four inches
of snow tonight through tomorrow. Most school districts are closed
through Wednesday. The latest updated list is at KTRH dot com.

(01:53:08):
And I'm Cliffs Saunders on Houston's news weather in Traffic
station KTRH.

Speaker 47 (01:53:13):
Informed for today's world, for tomorrow's America and connected.

Speaker 5 (01:53:19):
To Houston and now I can stay in the now
News Radio seven KTRH.

Speaker 3 (01:53:26):
Last place I would will to be now seven thirty
nine is our time here in Houston's borning. Here's right,
I don't think there's gonna be stuck at the airport
this time around, because the airport is going to shut
down at midnight tonight and remain closed through Tuesday, and
who knows how much longer after that. Because here's the

(01:53:46):
problems you have with the with the airports here in
Houston is that there is no de icing ability. So
if you get planes that come in, it's not just
it's not just the specter of snow, it's the specter
of just the super cold weather. It's could be down
around twenty degrees tonight, which means that in order to

(01:54:09):
be able to fly out of Houston Airport, out of
Bush or Hobby tomorrow morning, you'd have to be able
to de ice the planes. But they don't have the
equipment to de ice the planes. That if you've never
seen the process, and you know, if you haven't spend
time in a northern city, maybe you haven't. Is they
basically take a liquid that melts ice and they spray

(01:54:31):
the plane with it, especially the wings of the plane,
because if the wings ice up, then you know, you
create drag and it can lead to potential crash and
all sorts of other issues. So it's a matter of
safety as far as whether or not the airport is
open or closed. In this particular case, they don't even
want to. By the way, that they don't even want
to run the metro buses. They're shutting down the metro
lines for tomorrow as well. In fact, they're going to

(01:54:54):
suspend their bus service beginning at nine pm tonight due
to the winter storm. So when I say things are
going to shut down, I mean things are going to
shut down. You know, there's just not gonna be a
whole lot of reason to go out if you need
a few supplies. If you want to fight the crowds
at the supermarket, now's the time to do it because
things will shut down. Although I'm guessing most of these

(01:55:16):
stores will try to stay open. Grocery stores will try
to stay open during the storm, but how many of
them actually will be open nobody knows. Seven forty times
four traffic and weather together. You got all your snow
snacks ready to go sky mine pretty much.

Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
And by the way, Jimmy, I just saw a snowshovel
on TV because I've never seen a snowshovel in real life.
Your snowshovel is totally different from my horse poop shovel.

Speaker 5 (01:55:40):
Just okay, all right, so we know.

Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
I'm glad you mentioned the airport. I'm going to come
back for those of you who are just tuning in
and pick uber. Mike's brainy was talking about airport issues
right now.

Speaker 42 (01:55:52):
He is completely backed up because all the flights that
have been closed. Person I drop off at a rival
for sea and also do the same thing, goes to
the Maria Hotel, am Date tram.

Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
All right, take that tram. Great advice, Thank you, Uber Mike.
We've got to east Sam northbound ktr RAH listeners the
first to know about that stall on the toll bridge.
He's taken a left lane. Bruce from the hard work
and east side has a banana sticker on his hard hat.
I want to say hi to Jack from Connecticut, listening
on the free iHeartRadio app. Wind chill up there five degrease,
Terry and looking at the north side North Freeway still

(01:56:25):
actually pretty nice, even between the Belt and the Loop.
I don't have the usual suck at gin Bound twenty
minutes from the Woodlands down. I'm Skymike on the Generator
Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center from r ktr H Generator
super Center, twenty four hour weather Center.

Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
Time to check in with Terry Smith. I guess I
guess the kids will all probably wake up early tomorrow
because they're all going to want to watch.

Speaker 24 (01:56:44):
It snow and it'll be quite a sight.

Speaker 25 (01:56:47):
I will, Oh, yeah, yeah, it's really you know, snowstorms
are are best observed from inside the house as far
as I'm concerned. Ah, And that's what we got. So
there is a winter store morning. I keep neglecting to
mention that, in all my enthusiasm to talk about how
much snow and what's going to happen when there is

(01:57:08):
a winter store morning tonight six pm till six pm Tuesday,
that's the time period of greatest concern.

Speaker 24 (01:57:14):
Today, no worries, it's just cold.

Speaker 25 (01:57:17):
We did that yesterday, a little bit forties today tonight
a ninety percent chance of something coming down from the clouds. Initially,
I suspect that for many of us it will start
as some rain, but then transition from rain into.

Speaker 24 (01:57:32):
A little bit of sleep.

Speaker 25 (01:57:33):
Maybe more so the snow is that cold air is
very well concentrated across southeast Texas, so we'll start to
get some snow tonight and then the snow continuing tomorrow.
The heaviest snow tomorrow morning, and that's when I expect
we'll see the bulk of the accumulations.

Speaker 24 (01:57:51):
From the snow.

Speaker 25 (01:57:52):
For the most part, two to four inches is a
good estimate. We'll see some places with a little less
than that, some places with a little more, but in general,
I think that's where we're going to wind up. And
two to four inches means stay home if you can,
unless it's really, really urgent temperatures Tomorrow low to mid thirties.
Now we're going to be below freezing tomorrow night, so
everything's going to hang around Tomorrow night and early Wednesday. Now,

(01:58:16):
Wednesday's a sunny day, and the temperatures do get up
above freezing, but I'm not sure how quickly everything will melt,
and then Wednesday nights below freezing, so Thursday morning there
could be some icy spots out there. I think we'll
see a steadier, more widespread improvement in terms of road
concerns starting Thursday and Friday, with the sunshine and the

(01:58:39):
somewhat warmer temperatures.

Speaker 3 (01:58:41):

good all the way up, no problems. Twenty two minutes

in tomorrow in the Gulf of Mexico, at least not

Snow on the Golf Mexico say it ain't so, Matt.

Speaker 41 (02:01:03):
Well, I wish it could, but that's a little bit
above my pay.

Speaker 3 (02:01:06):
Grade, I hear you. So, how how can you prepare well? Obviously,
We've talked to everybody. Nobody has There's no a snowplow
to be found within four or five hundred miles of here,
so we don't have that to rely on. What are
you expecting the impact to be in Bassoaria, Well, you.

Speaker 41 (02:01:24):
Know, I followed Jeff Linder like a lot of us do,
and you know, it looks like we're going to get
We're going.

Speaker 5 (02:01:32):
To get a decent amount of snow.

Speaker 41 (02:01:34):
And which the snow's one thing, it's the ice that
is the bigger problem for our folks that are out
on the road. So that that's the biggest concern is
the traveling public out there and roads being extraordinarily bad,
and it's just creates a very dangerous condition. And so

(02:01:59):
you know, folks just need to hopefully stay put starting
this evening and write it out.

Speaker 3 (02:02:06):
Well, I guess the good news is there's not going
to be a whole lot of anything open tomorrow and
probably Wednesday, So there's not a lot of reason to
leave the house.

Speaker 5 (02:02:13):
Is there. That is correct?

Speaker 41 (02:02:15):
But you know a few of our folks, our first
responders and folks working in our chemical plants keeping them
running safely, you know, they've got to be out on
the road, those nurses, doctors, that type thing. So you
know there will be some folks that will have to
be out, so just to pray for them to be very,
very careful.

Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
Matt, I want to ask you while I have you too.
You know there's a funeral today for one of your
sheriff's deputies who lost his life in the line of service.
That's going to be a very sad day for you folks.

Speaker 2 (02:02:45):
Yes, sir, you will be.

Speaker 5 (02:02:48):
Are you planning on intending the funeral service today? Yes, sir, Yes, sir,
of course.

Speaker 3 (02:02:52):
Yeah. What was the last time Brazoori County lost a
service member this way?

Speaker 5 (02:02:58):
Can you recall this way? Oh? My god, I I can't.

Speaker 41 (02:03:05):
I know in my time we've lost we lost a
young man twelve thirteen years ago in a car wreck.
We had another one a little over eighteen years ago
that was lost d you know, working traffic control. Gosh,

(02:03:28):
you know, I think we go back to nineteen twenty
when Sheriff Snow was shot in the line of duty.
But I just don't have the history that close enough
to know. But I do remember Officer Van Meter and
Officer Olaf both in the last little over eighteen years

(02:03:51):
lost in traffic accidents.

Speaker 3 (02:03:54):
Well, our best to you in the Vargas family, and
we'll keep you folks our thoughts in our prayers today.

Speaker 5 (02:03:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 26 (02:04:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 41 (02:04:00):
And I also forgot, uh we had an officer in Paarland.
I was just talking to about our Brazori County. We
we had an officer in Pairland here that was lost
in a pit drump driver and just.

Speaker 5 (02:04:16):
Just horrible accidents, but this one was just, my god,
particular brutal. Yeah, Matt, thank you so much. Be safe
down there in Missouri, and thank you for checking in
with us. We appreciate it. That's Brazori County Judge Matt Sebasta.
You' all have a great day. We'll see you tomorrow morning.
