Well, let's do you know? It is Veterans Day. Many
of you are off today. We're honored, you've honored you
have joined us here live or if you listen on
the podcast, just know we are observing Veterans Day because
on this day in nineteen eighteen, who conclude the war
(02:51):
to end all wars, which of course wasn't our Mistics Day,
the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,
the armistice with Germany went into effect. It would remain
Ourmistice Day, which of course is separate and distinct from
(03:14):
Memorial Day. Memorial Day is the day in which we
honor those who died in war. The original Armistice Day
was to honor those who had served in World War One.
Actually those who had died in World War One. There
were one hundred eighty four thousand, four hundred ninety three
(03:36):
Texans who served in World War One. That is a
staggering number of people. One hundred eighty four thousand, four
hundred ninety three Texans alone would serve in that awful war.
We don't study World War One as we once did
(03:58):
because World War Two became so important and so interesting,
so fascinating the personalities, and of course it's more recent.
And then in nineteen twenty six, a resolution was adopted
(04:18):
proclaiming an annual observance of November eleventh, with appropriate ceremonies
by President Coolidge. And then, of course, in nineteen forty five,
toward the end of World War Two, a fellow from Birmingham, Alabama,
by the name of Raymond Weeks had the idea to
expand our Mistice Day to honor all veterans because we
(04:40):
were concluding another brutal war. It would eventually end up
on the desk of World War Two General Dwight Eisenhower
in nineteen fifty four to make this Veteran's Day, which
it is and always has been since then for the
(05:02):
last seventy days. The official observance of two minutes of
silence is recommended at one eleven pm today Central Time.
Just a reminder that Veteran's Day honors all who served,
wherever they served, in whichever branch they served, not those
(05:24):
who died, and not those who are serving today. While
those do fall into this, this is the broadest, most expansive,
most inclusive commemoration of service to our nation in the
armed forces. So to every one of you out there
who is a veteran, thank you very much for your service. Yesterday,
(05:46):
of course, was the Marine Corps Birthday, So to all
our devil dogs out there, thank you very much for
your service. One of my favorite events at the RCC,
and we started it that first year, was to honor
the Marine Corps and our veterans. And then the following
(06:08):
month on December seventh, was to honor our World War
Two veterans on Pearl Harbor Day, which we also called
Grandparents' Day for those who were elderly but had not served.
They were also invited to come out and be honored
and be celebrated. It was always a it was always
(06:29):
a fun time, and during the course of the almost
ten years of the RCC, we would lose one or
two of those veterans every year, and I believe we
have lost all of those who attended that first year
(06:51):
during this time, which is which is a great loss,
a great loss. Indeed, we had a we had an
event at twenty nine to twenty Roadhouse recently and as
always I went through the three things that we always do,
which is first, make a new friend, Second, kiss your wife,
(07:13):
and third we honored our veterans and I told the
story about how we didn't have any more of our
World War Two veterans. We would go through each of
the conflicts. But if there happens to be a World
War Two veteran here, could someone raise your hand and
point to him. And from the back I heard kind
(07:34):
of a hushed and you could hear, you know, quiet,
and there was a World War two veteran. And I
invited him up to the stage. And it's taken a
little while and he gets up to kind of the
barrier to where the inside area, you know, the front
area right in front of the stage, and then which
we had set off for show sponsors, and then the
(07:57):
area behind that, and I invited him to come on
down on because those guys are very humble. They don't
they're very modest, they don't want to draw attention. And
he kind of put his hands up like no, no,
that this is as far as I'm going. Well, he
was out of gas. That is what it came down to.
So the event proceeds the pace and a little while later,
(08:18):
an ambulance shows up and they're trying to get in
the back and get him out of here. And I
didn't know who it was, and I find out it
was our World War two veteran. He'd had a heart attack.
I think the festivities were so much he'd had a
heart attack, and the deputies, who were helping the EMS
get him loaded onto the ambulance said, he asked us,
(08:39):
please don't tell mister Barry, I don't want to ruin
the night. I thought, now, how sweet is that? How
cute is that he did not want me to know
because he did not in anyway want to be in
this tract. That is the spirit of the people who
have served this great happy Veterans Day.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
This is the Michael Berry Show.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
Hey, y'all during just here missus liquor, Hey, honey, what Tuesday?
Did you see President Biden on the television yesterday? Yes? Good,
that man grinned more than he have ever did. I mean,
both him and his son Hunter Biden have got their teethcapped,
and the President of course have had hair plugs and
(09:37):
boattox and everything to make him look a little more younger.
But I think at this point, when he got there
and just grinned and laughed and congratulate the next president,
that he just was giving a giant thumbs no uh,
middle finger, yes too, Camellia Harris, because she was ignorant
(10:04):
and presumptatory. She tried to do what she need to.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
But what's the.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Word war tis completed? Unequipped. That's right, she was completely
unequipped to even deal with this ignance. That's why she
had lost. She was rudderless and ignorance.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
And God lover.
Speaker 6 (10:31):
She was fadus in the history books like, let me
ask you this question, who is Hillary Clinton's running mate?
The last time she ran doo.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Doo doo doo doo do do?
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Nobody can't remember? I see it was Tim Kane, But
who give her? And now back to the Mica Bear
program books.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
It's not even a week since all of your work
bore fruit in the election of Donald Trump, and all
over the state of Texas. The state of Texas is
more red and twenty twenty four than it was in
twenty fourteen. It's an incredible, incredible feat you pulled off.
(11:20):
And you would think, because you've been hard at it,
that now you can get back to your job, you
can get back to your family. I don't know about you.
I'm guilty. I sort of put everything mentally, I put
everything on hold. You know, back when you were in school,
(11:42):
is you know after final exams, then I'll do this
at your business after we finish our year in reports,
then I'll do it. If you have a medical issue,
say I need to get I need to do this,
and do this, and do this, and men, you just
put a fence around you, and you're gonna put this
(12:03):
outside the fence. Now that might be the first thing
outside defense, but I'm putting it outside defense. And I'll
get to that when my surgery is over. I'll get
to that after the Thanksgiving or breaker, after.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
The new year.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
We love to do that. The problem is you stack
those up and it gets to be February and you
realize that thing you've been putting off since October. You
added a bit more to that because now you wanted
to start with all your new stuff. And Jenney, we
all do it. But we just finished the election and
Mitch McConnell and the swamp have already pulled a fast
(12:39):
one the election of the Senate majority leader. We've won
the House, We've won the Senate. This is our time
to Donald Trump has a mandate, a very clear mandate.
He won the popular vote. Nobody believed you won the
(13:01):
popular vote. Nobody believed it was possible, but it is.
It happened. Almost the only states we lost were states
with no voter iding, so we don't know how many
people voted illegally.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
There.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
We got people to the polls properly legally in such
large numbers it was too big to rickt We beat
all of their illegal votes and vote harvesting. That's incredible.
So now there is the issue of the Senate Majority Leader.
(13:39):
I cannot overstate the importance of who that person is
and what they do and don't do in their role
as Senate Majority Leader. So Mitch McConnell and the swamp
ran a little game. They set the election of the
Senate Majority Leader for a few days. It'll be this
(14:03):
Wednesday after the general election. That would mean that you
would wake up Wednesday morning hungover but exhilarated with the victory,
and without any time for the same grassroots that put
(14:26):
those senators in office to have time to organize that
the representative would be someone that we would actually want.
And it was all by design. Look, we can talk
about Joe Biden poop in his pants. If you haven't
(14:47):
seen the video of Joe Biden walking on the beach yesterday,
get thee to a computer, pull up your search engine,
and it look any video that was posted of Joe
Biden walking on the beach yesterday. My goodness, I mean
(15:08):
you could have put what's it? Uh, baby elephants? What's
the video? Ramona? If you were gonna put together three
have you seen it? If you were to get you have,
If you were to put together three of the best
audio beds to watch that with, what would that get?
Give me the three that would work best. He is
stumbling and bumbling. He looks like he just had three
(15:32):
gummies and two beers and went out on the beach.
And it's that kind of look. It's not always easy
to walk. He's not walking on the flat part of
the beach. He's walking on the part where you can
sink down. And some of it's hard and some of
it's not, and it's and Jill, she's walking along and
(15:55):
enjoying her last moment because this has been her big
debutop ball, and he's he's a jerky just at any moment,
he's gonna fall over. And I'm counting on him to
fall over. I'm counting on it. I'm here for it.
I want it so much because when he falls over,
you don't know if he's gonna fall over to get
stuck right there in the sand, or if he's gonna
(16:18):
roll for a bit, you're gonna lay there and you're
watching the Secret Service and the unease on the face
of the Secret Service. All right, give me my three
that you would most play.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
What is this?
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Oh this baby elephants? All right, turn it up? So people, Okay,
that's a good one. All right, what else you got?
Speaker 2 (16:55):
All right?
Speaker 1 (16:55):
And third, that's where gonna let that right, Oh, that
might work perfectly because he's moving real gingerly. And then
there's a moment where he kind of stumbles, and so
he decides he's gonna kind of trot for no good reason.
He's gonna try to trot because maybe if he goes faster,
(17:17):
you won't notice that he's stumbling and bubbling Chris Berman style.
So the grassroots wants Rick Scott, And yesterday a list
was released, or sorry, a list was leaked, and the
three top contenders, in descending orders order of votes that
(17:38):
they have are John Thune with twenty four, John Cornyn
with eighteen, and Rick Scott with eleven. A number of
you have reached out through my email at Michael Berryshow
dot com and asked that I convey to to Ted Cruz,
(18:00):
or have Ted Cruz on the air to discuss your
desire that Rick Scott be the the choice. My understanding
from within the Trump campaign, from within from within Trump World,
is that Trump wants Rick Scott, does not want John Cornyn,
who's presently running in second, and Ted Cruz is supposed
(18:24):
to be committed apparently to John Thune, which has people
understandably very angry.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
The Michael Arry Show families can be deported together.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
So the tally of senators. By the way, the Veterans
Day tribute we played at the beginning, each of the
artists there, several people asked what that montage was. Each
of the artists in that montage was a veteran. So yes,
there were folks. Is music you did not realize was
(19:02):
being performed by an American service member veteran because they
were just pop songs or rock songs or whatever. But
they were, including Willie Knowlson. So the Senate Majority leader,
the importance of that position is not lost on you.
The Senate is the upper chamber of the Congress, the
(19:25):
lower chamber the House of Representatives, their primary function, their
most powerful function. The four hundred and thirty five members
of the House, which is very very dominated by the
Speaker of the House. Their primary function is appropriations, the
funding of the US government. That is the role where
(19:49):
they will have the biggest impact on American policy. On
most other things, the much smaller upper chamber, the Senate,
with one hundred members, will be far more influential, particularly
(20:10):
particularly populating the federal government, because our Constitution calls for
the ratification of nominations by the President through this smaller body.
So you've got a Senate with fifty three members. By
the way, Pennsylvania now Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania. It took
(20:34):
a week, but we finally got a result. Chuck Schumer,
the current Senate majority leader, will not invite McCormick, the
Republican that seat was flipped into the Senate orientation this
week because Casey, the current Senator, has not yet conceded.
(20:58):
It's a classless act. But we're talking about Chuck Schumer. Remember, so,
Chuck Schumer will no longer be the Senate majority leader.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
We know that.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
The hard work of Americans to win these seats, to
flip these seats and give Republicans a clear majority, means
that for two years, and that's all we're guaranteed. Donald
Trump will have free reign to do what he wants
to do if Republicans in the House and the Senate
(21:29):
will support him. The Senate majority leader has an incredible
power to carry out Trump's agenda or to stifle it.
And that's what you would expect if a Democrat was
in charge of the Senate. Sadly, even with a Republican
(21:50):
you could have what you call a catch and kill.
They could smother Trump's agenda by claiming they didn't have
the votes. For instance, you remake the federal judiciary. And
this was perhaps Trump's greatest accomplishment in his first term
was how many justices, was how many justice systems are
(22:12):
in court, but how many federal judge ships he managed
to get through. And I credit where it's due. McConnell
did a good job pushing those judges through. That is
a that is a skill, it's a it's a real
skill to be able to wrangle that body. The Senate.
(22:36):
You got a hundred egos in there, and you've got
the Democrats working hard to keep these Republicans because remember
federal judiciary appointment or federal judiciary seats. Benches are for
a lifetime. Once you put a federal judge on the bench,
they're not leaving until they retire or die. And you've
(22:58):
got to have a Senate Majority leader who is with
us on this. Rick Scott is a grassroots choice. Thune
is presently leading in the leaked list with twenty four,
Cornyn is at eighteen. Cruz is reportedly I have extended
an offer to him to come on the show and
(23:20):
talk this morning or this evening about the leak that
he is with Thune instead of Rick Scott, who's in
third at eleven. But what John Wayne mccornyn is now
doing is he's got his kib'le head on. He's out there. Boy,
I'm for Trump. One thing we got to do is
get that Trump administration and it's all crock. So prepare
(23:41):
for the next two days to see old fashioned John
Wayne mccorny and making a return. He's just like you,
old John Wayne mccornyn.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
John Wayne mccornyn wants to be your Senate Majority leader.
That because you are maga, and John Wayne, by God
mccornyan is the maga. Is some bitch in Texas. If
you catch him at a monster truck rally. Chances are
you'll catch him in one of them dazzled Maga cowboy
(24:15):
hats in a red, white and blue made in America
three piece suit. How Maga is mccornyn. His playlist has
two songs, YMCA God Bless the USA. He drives a
Ford F three point fifty duly with over one hundred
tattered flags furling in the bed. Half of them say
(24:36):
make America great again, half say Let's go Brandon, and
half say FJB. John Wayne mccornan was not a math major.
He majored in America, and it's gonna take a leader
that majored in America to be the majority leader in
the Senate of America. A MAGA leader who's everyday Carrie
(24:57):
kit includes a Gerber multitool, a time X iron Man watch,
an iPhone six, ridge wallet, and a well worn pocket constitution.
So call your senators America and leave a message that
you support super mega Ultramega John Wayne mccornyn, who is
(25:18):
definitely not a squishy rhino that is clearly incentivized to
keep the status quo. The status quo. John Wayne mccorny.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
John Wayne mcconne.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Just watch. You gotta see what he's tweeting. We gotta
get Donald Trump's agenda. Pett John Wayne mccornyn works behind
Donald Trump's back to undercut everything.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
That Joe Biden's released in our country and violation of
federal law. You better start packing nowt.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
The Michael Berry show, cause you're going home. We have
neglected some Houston issues. I wanted to get to. Amy
Davis at KPRCTV Channel two has done a wonderful job
(26:15):
exposing some of the corruption just the tip of the iceberg.
But she's done a wonderful job at the Houston Housing Authority,
and she's found that after all the scandals millions and
millions of dollars, that some of the top executives have
(26:37):
left the agency and oh, here's a big cash payout
as you leave to retain confidentiality because we don't want
you telling what's been happening here. Well, the procurement policy
(26:57):
at HHA is that anyone who gets any one hundred
thousand dollars payment requires BORD approval. So what do they do.
They give them a ninety nine thousand dollars payment. That
alone is a red flag. And that's exactly what's happened
(27:21):
this guy, David Northern, the CEO, He is by all
accounts up to absolutely no good. That is a criminal
organization they're running over there. The story to her credit,
Amy Davis, KPRCTV.
Speaker 8 (27:36):
This long list of former Houston Housing Authority employees came
from the HHA, just names and dates their employment ended,
no details.
Speaker 9 (27:45):
That's astonishing that you would see that high a turnover
in such a short period of time.
Speaker 8 (27:50):
Houston City Councilman Julian Ramirez said the large number of
employees leaving is concerning, but more troublesome are the executive
level employees who left essentially muzzled. GPRC two investigates obtained
three confidential settlement, release and severance agreements signed by David
Northern and the former HHA employees. Keeland Lewis, former vice
(28:13):
president and general counsel, was paid ninety nine nine hundred
ninety nine dollars on the condition Lewis file no claims,
lawsuits or make any disparaging statements or representations to anyone
about HJ or its attorneys, directors, employees, contractors, or agents.
Senior Vice President Cupid Alexander was paid out just over
(28:34):
eighty nine thousand dollars for not communicating about his employment
with anyone at AHHA other than the HR director, and
he had to agree to drop any claims for violation
of public policy, fraud, and misrepresentation, among other things. And lastly,
Vice President of Operations George Griffin was paid out ninety
nine nine hundred dollars for his silence.
Speaker 9 (28:56):
You hope that your government agencies are transparent and that
the public can find out what's going on so it
can evaluate the performance.
Speaker 8 (29:04):
Ahja's procurement policy specifically states all procurements that exceed one
hundred thousand dollars must have approval from the board prior
to award. Since these agreements and payouts were just shy
of that threshold, the board may have never known the
executives were paid to keep quiet.
Speaker 9 (29:23):
Anytime an employee is prevented from telling what they know
about waste, fraud or abuse that might exist in an organization,
that's bad public policy.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
And since the AHHA board put CEO David Northern on
paid leave, it made hh Vice President and General Counsel
Janine Hovelcox the interim president and CEO, the very same
person who drew up these confidential agreements and presented them
to now ployees. So I did reach out to Hovelcox
and the new AHHA board chairman to ask if they
(29:57):
would lift the non disclosure agreement so that the former
employees can speak freely with us and investigators. They told
us they did consider this. They also spoke with attorneys,
but decided not to because it could open the housing
authority up to lawsuits from the former employees, because part
of that is them agreeing not to sue.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
So I want to make sure you get what's just
happened with Amy Davis that KPRC has just exposed. They've
taken your tax dollars. They have paid top executives at
a governmental entity the maximum number of dollars they can
(30:39):
pay them, and still do so in secrecy. One of them,
the general counsel, the top lawyer. They have paid them
all this money in exchange for when they leave, they
(31:00):
won't tell all the laws they saw broken within the
organization process. That for a moment, that is as corrupt
as you can possibly imagine and almost certainly criminal. And
(31:24):
the woman who drew up the documents, who basically said
we will pay you not to be a whistleblower. We
will pay you not to expose fraud. The guy who
was in charge of the organization, who I'll remind you,
was paying hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars multiple times,
(31:46):
including to his buddy, the supposed clothing designer in Chicago.
There are certain guys who are self styled entrepreneurs. There
are a couple of businesses. They always have. They always
have a limo service, they always have a mortgage company,
(32:08):
they're always clothing designers. Well, I think this guy had
all those and then and he pulled together a construction
company and HHA gave him money to put picnic tables
at the Section eight housing projects. And then they came
(32:30):
up with a scheme. They were going to pay him
to replace all the air conditioning units window air conditioning units, ramon,
Can I get the sound of a window air conditioning
unit to put people in the right mood? And they
were going to overpay for these window air conditioning units
(32:53):
to a massive degree.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Do you know why?
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Because old boy wasn't going to get the money. He
was going to get a minimal amount. And then there's
a kickback. Oh but we're not supposed to know about
the kickback because there's a confidentiality agreement. Well, let me
just tell you something that veil can be pierced. These
contracts can be busted wide open. The FBI can come in.
(33:18):
You cannot agree to an illegal contract to take ninety nine,
nine hundred and ninety nine dollars. So the board doesn't
have to approve it. I'm not sure this board wouldn't
even have approved it in the first place. So that
you can hold on to the fact that you witnessed
a rate or a murder, or fraud or extortion or bribery.
(33:39):
Is this is your City of Houston government, this is
your Harris County government, this is your Metro, all of it.
This is what has resulted and what happens. What does
Sylvester Turner do, the mayor of the City of Houston
during all this, Oh, he just slides right into Sheila
Jackson Lee's congressional seat. Do you realize how many people
(34:01):
are being defrauded on a daily basis in this town?
And all they can think is, well, we get an
over on. We put Sylvester in Sheilas's Yep, you sure
did
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Mitch Old I'll try
