Speaker 2 (03:00):
So James, you're on the Michael Berry Show.

Speaker 9 (03:21):
Go ahead, sir, Hey, Mike uh I heard y'all talking
about the SS Grand Camp earlier in the show, and
I just wanted to let you know that my amateur
radio club sponsors the SS Grand Camp every year for
museum ships on the air, and we go out there

(03:42):
to the where the prop is and we we set
up and and we sponsor that with our call sign,
our club call at Quila five Brava Sierra. So it's
a real fun weekend. And I don't know, I just
thought it was a lot of fun and I thought
it was cool. We were y'all were talking about the
s S Grand Camp because not a lot of people
know about it.

Speaker 10 (04:04):
So you said about the prop that y'all go out, Yes,
is that the prop on the Grand Camp or on
the flyer?

Speaker 9 (04:15):
That was the prop on the SS Grand Camp. It's
at the base of the dyke, kind of adjacent to
Boyd's Bait and Tackle.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Okay, So I was reading about let me see if
I can find this. The reason I ask.

Speaker 10 (04:32):
Is I had somebody that had pretty good knowledge on
this whole situation, and he told me about the the
High Flyer it was called, and I guess the High
Flyer was on the scene as well. I had never
known that I'd never heard that, so I went and looked,
and it sure as heck, it was the High Flyer.

(04:56):
The first explosion had set High Flyer free from its more,
and it drifted across the harbor, coming to rest against
the Wilson b Keene. Her crew stayed aboard for an
hour before the smoke of the burning oil and the
harbor forced them to leave. In the afternoon, two men
boarded High Flyers searching for injured crew members. They noted
that her cargo was a blaze and reported it to

(05:19):
someone on the harbor front. The message seems to have
gone unheeded for several hours, until it was realized that
this indicated a serious problem. Only around eleven PM did
tugboats attempt to pull High Flyer away from the docks.
Despite having cut her anchor, they were unable to move her.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
They fled the area around one am the next day.

Speaker 10 (05:40):
Ten minutes later, at one ten am, High Flyer exploded,
killing two more people. According to witnesses, the explosion was
more powerful than that of the Grand Camp. Casualties were
light since the docks had already been evacuated, but the
second explosion exacerbated that means it made it worse for
mee the damage to nearby ships and buildings.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
The blast destroyed the nearby Wilson B. Keane.

Speaker 10 (06:03):
The steel frame of high Flyer had been heated until glowing,
and these chunks rained down upon Texas City, setting mass fires.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
One of the propellers was.

Speaker 10 (06:15):
Blown off and subsequently found near a mile inland. It
is now in a national park near the anchor of
Grand Camp.

Speaker 9 (06:27):
That's fascinating, I think it is. It is very fascinating
because there's two memorials for it. There's one at the
base of the dike where the propeller is, and then
there's one off the loop, off of one ninety seven.
And on Wikipedia here it shows the anchor of the
Grand Camp is at that memorial park over there off

(06:48):
the loop. So it is very fascinating. But yeah, my club,
my amateur radio club, we sponsored that ship memorial site
or the ship every year. How many people in here
m ships on the airth I think we got about
sixty on the books and about thirty or forty active members.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I bet everyone of them's white, so.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Uh no, we.

Speaker 9 (07:14):
Got we got one or two black people in there.

Speaker 11 (07:19):
I know, I know.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
White nerds is one black dude.

Speaker 9 (07:26):
Well, I know I'm the only one who doesn't get
the senior citizen discount when we go out to eat.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Well, I figured you sounded a little young for for
this whole soul operator. How old are you?

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Well?

Speaker 9 (07:37):
I turn thirty two Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
See things like that, that's a dying art. Young people
today don't do those sorts of kind of nerdy gathering things.
We went and uh.

Speaker 10 (07:49):
We went to the uh to the what's some railroad,
the toy train thing that Jim Mudd did.

Speaker 9 (07:57):
What was that Texas City Museum?

Speaker 10 (08:00):
Oh no, no, it's it's that Memorial City donates the
space to it.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
But it's called the there's a certain term for the track.

Speaker 10 (08:09):
There's all sorts of They all have their you know,
one of them's four inches and one of them eight inches,
and one of them and it's called the it's the
Linel scales. Yeah, the Linel train is one of them. Shoot,
I can't remember. Somebody else tell me here in just
a minute, James, what do you do for a living.

Speaker 9 (08:33):
I'm a project manager at Enterprise Products on.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
The gas transmission side.

Speaker 9 (08:41):
Oil, yeah, oil and gas distribution side.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
How long have you been doing that?

Speaker 9 (08:49):
Five years? Five years, Mark sixteen five. Yeah, really, well,
this is.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
The Michael Berry Show.

Speaker 10 (09:03):
Let's track sizes are called in sizes, or so they're
called gauges, like engage the I forget how it works.
It's not like that's something you need in your day
to day life to remember. It's just kind of a quirk.

(09:23):
It's like Ham radio operators, you know. It's not like
I'm really going to be a Ham radio operator. I'm
just mildly interested in what people do now CB radio
stuff that I get fired up about. Uh, let's go
to Kevin. Kevin stuttering, Kevin, do we get something wrong?

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Is there something.

Speaker 10 (09:55):
This is?

Speaker 2 (09:56):
It's not that big a stutter. Nobody stutters that bad. Kevin.

Speaker 10 (10:05):
Hmmm, he's probably hit the mute button. Be cooler if
you hit it, but just just kind of hit it
when we came came back on and hit it while
we're waiting on Kevin, you know how you know how

(10:27):
you can recognize the blind guy at a newdist colony.

Speaker 12 (10:35):
It's not hard. It's not hard.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
That's how you can recognize because well, if you know Kevin,
keep Kevin potted up just in case he comes.

Speaker 9 (10:58):
Back around and cook some soups and eat bread and
desserts and just get on fat and sassy.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
She's one of my all time bearers. I forget how
much I love her till I hear it. Oh my goodness,
will up.

Speaker 10 (11:17):
You think those You think those sauce pans after she
makes stuff in there and they get put back on
the top of the of the stovetop, you think they
ever ever get cleaned?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
How long do you think they sit there? Well, good morning.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
Some of them get moved out of the way to
make room for another one, and they're sitting there and
this stuff is just caked on there. You getting You're
not getting it off of there.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
It is not coming off. Kevin.

Speaker 13 (11:47):
You're probably happy back here.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (11:49):
Well, well, first of all, you got me on in
the background. Secondly, what were you doing when we went to.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Oh, I was at the back of the tree. I
was at the back of the trailer and uh and uh,
my blue my bluetooth would not reach that far.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
But uh.

Speaker 13 (12:09):
But the answer that you're looking for is a Houston
tin Plate Society, and and they deal with oh as
in the letter oh gauge.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yes, yes, Kevin, that is it. It was the old
gauge can do me a favor, Yes, sir, Yes, sir.
How close are you to the front door of your trailer?

Speaker 13 (12:34):
Well, uh no, I'm in the cab right now. I'm
in the cab and I'm about I'm about to get
to a I'm about to get.

Speaker 9 (12:41):
To a work site.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Oh okay, what's going on today? I'm hauling brick today,
hauling brick. Where to I'm hauling yep?

Speaker 13 (12:54):
Uh way out? Uh no, way out on the northwest side.

Speaker 11 (13:01):
I've not.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
On either, taken off.

Speaker 14 (13:05):
In two ninety, turned onto one road, then go on
to grab a road and I and right now I
am heading towards a water treatment plant which is for
a brand new neighborhood.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Or do you do any long haul or you just
here local?

Speaker 11 (13:26):
On?

Speaker 14 (13:26):
I am local, but but the uh uh but the
local is but the local depends.

Speaker 13 (13:35):
Where I'm at.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
What kind of truck you got.

Speaker 9 (13:43):
Right now?

Speaker 13 (13:43):
I'm driving a traightliner Cascadia a day cab.

Speaker 14 (13:51):
Automated transmission, of.

Speaker 13 (13:55):
Which is something I really really do.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Not I'm not I'm not a fan of.

Speaker 9 (14:02):
So I'm not a fan of the automated transmissions.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
And why is that? Uh when you go low on air,
the thing does does not shift? So what does it do?
Just revs up red lines?

Speaker 13 (14:21):
Yeah yeah, yeah, uh what uh uh on what the
system is? And it is It is a.

Speaker 14 (14:29):
System of elves and uh uh the system of elves
and processors and.

Speaker 13 (14:36):
Mechanically it's just like a uh it's just just like
a regular standard transmission, but you have actuators uh are
shifting all the gears, which you know what I like
to say to on on all of my friends there

(14:56):
is uh is uh it's just like a regular regular trucks.
But you got R two D two all kid doing
all the shifting and cliss.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
I know nothing about cars.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
If my car breaks down, I have to make the
noises my car's making for the mechanics. And you know,
they know you have to do that because there's always
like five of them hanging around waiting for a shot.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
You know, they're just standing there. Hey, here he comes.
What's the matter with your car? Man? I don't know,
you know, if you could take a look at it,
Come on, what's the matter with tell us? You gotta
stand there, Let's go on.

Speaker 15 (15:36):
Bring can you fix up?

Speaker 2 (15:52):
I don't know, I just clean up air? Harry?

Speaker 11 (15:56):
Well, well, well, lucky you Michael, this must be.

Speaker 16 (16:01):
Your lucky day seven one thousand.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
If you call, we're gonna try to get you on.
But let's get right to it. I'm good, you're good,
We're all good. Let's get right to the point you
are calling about Kevin. You're up, Kevin. Go ahead, sir,
Hello Kevin. Oh, it's going to be and you've got
his name wrong. It's going to be Devin. You're known.
Sit there for ten minutes and go, oh, did you

(16:35):
mean Devin? Kevin? Devin kevlar uh Levin seven seven one
three nine two seven If that's your number, never understand.

Speaker 11 (16:59):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Maybe you hit the mute button. I'm not even sure
what to do.

Speaker 10 (17:07):
Well, I guess leave it up at some point, maybe
he went out of bluetooth range or something. Folks, I
want to be very very very very very important. I
hate to be serious on a Friday, but I gotta
do it. I keep getting emails from people saying, are

(17:29):
you going to release your list of endorsements. I want
to make this as clear as I can. When we
have a Republican primary, we are choosing which candidate we're
going to vote for in November. Because we're going to
vote for the Republican We're deciding which of the Republicans
we want the better of the two Republicans. Okay, when

(17:51):
it comes to November, we're not letting the Democrats win.
We vote, and we vote all the way down. I
got new polling information. Trump's up in Texas, but we
got local races and statewide races where we're in real trouble.

(18:12):
Do you know what that means? That means a lot
of people are saying, I'm gonna vote for Trump. I'm
gonna show America. I'm gonna vote for Trump. We'll make
America great again. What about the US Senate race? I
was just gonna vote for Trump.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Okay.

Speaker 10 (18:31):
Do you realize that Colin Allred, all wrong? Allred would
harass Donald Trump as a US Senator the entirety of
Trump's term. Do you realize you will have been responsible
for that? Oh, I didn't think about that. Then there's
people that I know that I like, that I thought

(18:53):
were reasonable human beings that voted for Barack Obama twice.
And now I want to tell me how bad Obama was. Yeah,
it wasn't a secret. You just had to take a
minute to figure it out. These people slither into office
because our people don't want.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Is Ted Cruz perfect? No, who is well? I would
like to express.

Speaker 10 (19:21):
That he's imperfect, and therefore not vote or vote for already,
And then you end up with terrible, terrible office holders,
and wonder how we can get rid of already. You
have to stop them before they get to the age,
to the power, to the position. The first chance you get,

(19:42):
you whack them ole them. You don't let Alread get
in the Senate. It'll be six years. He is all wrong,
he's awful. He was there, handpicked, he's got a football background.
He was their next round of Beto. And all his money,
it's coming from California and New York, all of it.

(20:05):
They don't care about you in Huntsville or Katie or Seeley.
They don't nothing about your life matters to them. They
got their eye on that Senate seat. They're trying to
get to fifty one in the Senate. And if they
lose some seats, which they're gonna do, but they steal

(20:25):
one in Texas. Is that worth two hundred million dollars? Yes,
it is, Yes, it is. That is a dagger in
the heart. And we got a lot of people. Oh,
they're gonna vote for Trump, but not a damn other thing,
and they're going to wonder why we can't ever get
anything fixed because nobody, nobody paid attention that there's more

(20:50):
on the ballot than Trump. It might take you a
few extra seconds, but you've got to go all the
way down Dan Simons, Mike Knox, all of them. Hell,
we got Republicans in this area that can't bother when asked,
should I contribute to Mike Knox? Should I contribute to
Dan Simons? We've got Republicans in this area who won't

(21:15):
even suggest to other Republicans. Yeah, contribute to them?

Speaker 2 (21:19):
What are you doing? Makes me crazy. We've got people.

Speaker 10 (21:24):
On our side that don't want to win. And once
you realize that, once you realize you're going into war
with some people that don't actually want to win, don't
make me mention Robert de Bruce. Remember Robert de Bruce.
Remember when William Wallace realized that the nobles, the Scottish nobles,

(21:47):
these poor you know, these poor peasant land dwelling thiefs
in Scotland. They're fighting longshanks. They're fighting the English king
and the nobles who stood the most to gain they
cut a deal with long Shanks that they wouldn't provide
the backup for the men who had been fighting for them,
and they would let them die off. And that was

(22:09):
the moment that William Wallace realized what was happening.

Speaker 11 (22:14):
I must have a liones with England to prevail here.
He achieved that, he saved your family, increased your land.
In time, he will have all the power.

Speaker 15 (22:26):
In Scotland lands titles, men power, nothing, nothing, they have nothing,
Then fight for me, because if they do not, I
throw them off from my land. And I starved their
wives and their children. Those men who bled the ground
read at Folkirk, they.

Speaker 11 (22:44):
Fought for William Wallason.

Speaker 15 (22:45):
He fights for something that I've never had, and I
took it from him when I betrayed him. And I
saw it in his face on the battlefield.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
And it's tearing me apart.

Speaker 11 (22:55):
Oh men, betray all those hot words hurt he does.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
I will never been smart devices from Michael's brain, every
single one of them. To your ears. This is the
Michael Berry Show. Let's go to Michael. Michael. You're on
the Michael Berry Show. Go ahead, sir.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Then after the good Morning Michael, I messed up while
Ago really bad. I'm sorry, my apologies. I have I
have an idea. It's crazy. Maybe off the wall, Joe
Biden has really been sabotaging Colina.

Speaker 9 (23:37):
Would you agree?

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Yes, he is warning Meca hat Uh October surprises. What
would be and this would be crazy? But what if
Joe Biden, the way he is acting so far, he
is this is himself. They don't like each other. She
is pushing his buttons as in doctor Joe Biden won
If right out before the election, he just come to

(24:00):
and endorses Trump, would it happen?

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Would it happen? Could it happen? Yeah, he's making.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
The most popular guy. It can make him, make him popular,
he'd preserve his legacy. My goodness, whoa, I mean, the
ship's going down anyway? Why not?

Speaker 10 (24:20):
Look, you know it's interesting because I guess because of
the role I play. If if I say there is
a chance that Alex Bragman.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Retires at the end of the season, or there is a.

Speaker 10 (24:42):
Chance that Alex Braman, Alex Bragman does not come back
to Major League Baseball, he goes to the Japanese League.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
If there's a one chance of that.

Speaker 10 (24:53):
But I don't think it's likely, but that that could happen,
and people like you said this would happen. So I've
come to learn that some people do not have the
processing capability. It's a slightly elevated thinking skill to understand
that you can have two distinct contradictory possibilities.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
That could be discussed.

Speaker 10 (25:19):
You have to say one or the other, and you
get credit if it happens, and you get blamed if
it didn't, even though you were trying to say that
when you.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Throw the ball, he could hit it or.

Speaker 10 (25:29):
He could miss it, and they say, no, no, no,
you said he would hit it or you said.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
He wouldn't hit it.

Speaker 10 (25:35):
I don't think the odds are good, but I would
have never believed, Michael. I would have never believed that
we would end up where we are. This is such
a tumultuous time in American politics, and much of it
is good. I think this is wonderful because I'll tell

(25:55):
you what we're doing. We're rooting out the Mitt Romney,
John McCain, Dick Cheney, John Cornyan, Greg Abbott Republicans. They
got all the money. Let's be very clear.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
They got the big money guys, and they got the
coral rose they've got. We've at least pushed them out
of the r n C. But they hold they do this.
You're in. They're the pros. We're the amateurs.

Speaker 10 (26:20):
They own all the resources, they own the structures, they
own the system.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
They've got the lawyers. We just have the people. We
have the numbers.

Speaker 10 (26:31):
But this has been such a crazy time. I think
it's a good time. Look, I'm kind of glad in
a small way that Abbot's Secretary of State Jane Nelson,
is going to allow illegal aliens to vote now that
everybody knows.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
It, because there are a lot of people realizing at
this moment, Oh my god, Abbot doesn't do anything.

Speaker 10 (26:58):
He never has. That's what's crazy. Abbot is John Cornyn.
Abbott is the guy who doesn't do anything. He never
actually does anything.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
But then occasionally, at the right time, he'll pop up
and say, we're gonna that's not true. He did do something.
He did something that I applaud is the best thing
he's ever done, busting the illegals.

Speaker 10 (27:26):
And for that, I will take everything else I've said
and say he did nothing, But he did do this
one thing, and it is a massive thing, and I
give him all the credit in the world for it.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
I'd love to give him credit for a thousand things
or two thousand things. I can give Dan Patrick the
credit for fifty things. I would love to give Greg
Abbott the credit for all the wonderful.

Speaker 10 (27:47):
Things he's done. Unfortunately I have to go the other direction.
Here's the new polling data from Pew.

Speaker 9 (27:54):
This.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
If this holds, this would put Trump in the electoral
college at three hundred and twelve and Kamala Harris at
two twenty six.

Speaker 10 (28:03):
Trump is up point eight, so slightly less than one
percent in Nevada. In Michigan, Trump up one, Pennsylvania up,
Trump up two point three, Wisconsin Trump up two and
a half, Arizona Trump up two point six, Georgia, Trump

(28:27):
up four point four, North Carolina, Trump up five point one.
At seven swing states or battleground states, and he's literally
up in the Pew pole of all places, He's literally
up in every single one of them. Same pole has

(28:50):
popular vote Kamala Harris forty eight, Trump forty seven, Kamala
up by one. And you say, how does that happen? Remember,
we don't have a national election. This is hard for
people to grasp. We have fifty separate elections, and each
one of them is a winner take all. Except for Nebraska,

(29:11):
each one of them is a winner take all. So
if Ted Cruz wins by one vote in Texas or
buy a million votes, you still get all the Electoral
College votes for the state of Texas.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
And we better get engaged. Folks. I'm gonna tell you something.
If you're out there and you're going to every Trump
rally and.

Speaker 10 (29:31):
You got your Trump hat and you gotta, you better
spend some time on Ted Cruz or we're gonna lose
it and it's gonna be on us.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
These seats don't come along very often.

Speaker 10 (29:40):
If the Democrats pick this seat off, they are spending
so much money.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
We can't affect how much money they're spending. All we
can do is get our votes out and beat them,
which we did against Beto. But they're coming harder this time,
and they got a better strategy. I don't think they
have a better candidate. They have a better strategy.

Speaker 10 (29:57):
They're not letting him out because he's for boys in
the women's back and he's for tearing down the border
wall and allowing wide.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Open legal immigration. Those are facts. Those are facts. He's
all wrong all Red, all wrong for Texas, and I
hope some people are going to get very, very engaged,
because I can tell you I am from now to
election day because I'm not losing this seat
