One oh six one the Twister. This is my Tulsa with Carla Cantrell.
Hey, Carla, Hey, howare you? I'm so good? I
can't stand it. Are you?Are you okay? After the July fourth
holiday? Did you stay up waytoo late? I did? Actually I
stayed up pretty late, and butI'm sitting here sipping on a coffee and
I'm doing pretty good. Well, that is a very good thing. Did

(00:24):
you go to a professional fireworks showor did you? Uh? Oh,
we just kind of did it oldschool with the kids, with the kids
at the house and just got theneighbors and hung out, hung out on
the street and shot some fireworks andhad a good time. Oh that's awesome.
Yeah, we did the same thingand all was well and right with
the world until someone set something offand it tipped over and then all heck

(00:47):
broke loose and oh no, notwhat you're gonna want. We had a
we had a giant windstorm here inTulsa last week or the week before.
I don't know. All my daysare running together now with that July four
with holiday in there, but um, they had this huge debris pile piled
up in our circle and sure enough, it caught on fire. We were

(01:08):
ready, We had the hose,we were ready, so we didn't lose
the house or anything. But yeah, it was it was crazyful. I
like that. You got to beprepared, prepared for the worst. Well,
I'm glad to know it didn't itdidn't, you know, do any
damage. No, No, itwas just like, hey, we set
it on fire. We all knewit was coming, so you did that.
You did the neighborhood of favor. It's probably true. Well, I'm

(01:33):
glad you got your coffee and you'reall settled. Are are you ready to
go on tour? Now? Areyou ready to hit all the fears and
festivals this summer? Oh? Yeah, I'm ready. We're I feel like
we're you know, a few goodweeks in at this point the band,
we're all kind of warmed up inrock and feeling good about the stets.
So it's uh, it's already beena fun summer and we're looking forward to
the rest of the show this year. It's gonna be uh, I don't

(01:56):
know. It's a lot of fun, momentum building. You can feel it,
you can feel the energy the fansbring, and it's just uh,
it just feels really good to beout for sure. Here's what I love
too is you know, I've seenyou obviously with Florida Georgia line, but
I can't imagine that it's got tobe like a new energy being out there
by yourself. What's the biggest surprisesince you've become a solo artist. What's
the thing that you were like?Huh, I didn't think about that,

(02:20):
you know. Um, I wouldsay overall just I don't know if surprise
is the word, but definitely it'sbeen fun to watch the fans connect the
dots, you know, and youcan tell there's a diverse audience at this
point. You know, you havesome some fgl fans that roll over and
have been fans of me and havefollowed along, and then you have you

(02:42):
have new fans that are connecting thedots and oh this is the guy that
this is the guy that was inthat that band. Yeah, you know,
and it's just been interesting to kindof feel and hear everybody's different narrative
and where they are and how theyyou know, became became a fan of
me and my music at this point, and uh, it's just been really
fun. And we have the showsof just been really dynamic from kids,

(03:05):
you know, very young kids thatare fans and know all the words to
to their you know, to theirparents and even their parents. So it's
just been awesome and I've had alot of fun with it. And uh,
again, probably just the biggest surpriseseeing continuing to see that the dots
being connected out there in the audience. I love that. Yeah, you
don't even realize how many hits thatyou have until you see you in concert

(03:29):
and then you're like, oh,yeah, I forgot about this one.
You know, now you've got twonumber one as a solo artist, and
you're getting to write with new people. When I've found out that you wrote
Dance in the Country with Keith Urban, I was like, oh, that
makes all the sense because Keith likesthose little licks, he likes hooky songs,
and I think you guys are justa match made in heaven. Oh
thanks. Yeah, Keith's becomes sucha good friend and someone I look up

(03:52):
to so much creatively and for manymany reasons. So yeah, to get
to work with him is in anycapacity is always a gift. And you
know, especially when you when youget a big old song out of the
deal, so we uh yeah,we need to get back together and write
some more some more songs for sure. But I love Keith. Well,
you've taken some major steps, Imean just this year alone, like going

(04:12):
out on your own. But justthis doesn't even have to be musically.
What's the scariest thing you've ever doneand would you do it again? M
you know, it's probably having children. I mean, that's pretty scary.
I remember riding home after having youknow, riding home from the hospital,
thinking what in the world will howdo we do this? And we're responsible
for this human life, you knowin the backseat, So it's that's a

(04:35):
pretty scary moment. I don't knowwhy that just popped in my head when
you asked that question. So Irolled with it. But uh but I
would definitely do it again. NowI'm three kids deep, and it's it's
one of the biggest gifts in mylife. And and you know, me
and my wife are having a blastwith it, but it is it is.
There are scary moments, for sure, We're like, how am I
going to do this? Yeah? No, I remember the first time we

(04:55):
were even trying and I got pregnantand I cried that whole night. I
was like, what was I thinking? Yeah, it's a big it's a
big you know, it's a biglife change, but it's a you know
what a beautiful thing. Yeah.Well, and speaking of a kid,
now you've got kids to give adviceto, what's the best advice you've ever
gotten? Oh, best advice I'veever gotten? Yeah, we're like best

(05:15):
dad quote, like, who didyou get the best line from that?
You're like? That really helped me. You know, I don't know why
I'm thinking about this, but Ican almost hear my dad telling me that,
you know, whatever you want togo get it, and if you
don't get it, somebody else willbecause somebody else is out there wanting and
just bad. You know, soI think, I don't know. I
feel like a lot of my workethic came from my dad and in quotes
that he told me and things thathe showed me along the way, and

(05:40):
now having three three kids on myown, it's just interesting how some of
those things pop out occasionally, andI can you know, I can hear
him kind of telling me, Hey, if you if you want't, you
got to go get it. Youknow, it's not gonna come easy.
I love that. Oh no,does that mean our time is done?
That incessant beep I'm being told itdoes. Well. Hey, we cannot
wait to see you in Oklahoma laterthis month, and you have a wonderful

(06:02):
week and hopefully that coffee you'll kickin any minute and you'll feel great.
Thanks, Carla, have a goodday and looking forward to hanging and we'll
see you thing all right, seeyou than This has been My Tulsa with
