Take care of yourself first and bea little bit more selfish. One O
six one on the Twister. Thisis my Tulsa with Carla Cantrell. Hi,
Carlo, this is Caitlyn. Hi. Hey, Caitlyn. I am
so glad to speak with you.We are so excited about you coming back
to Tulsa for New Year's Eve.Me too. It is going to be
a great show. Cane's Ballroom alwaysa great time, and I just want

(00:22):
everybody to know that that's where you'regonna be Caitlyn. Butson Jr. Carroll
on New Year's Eve, just ringingin the new year with us at Kaine's
Ballroom, legendary ballroom. So we'reway excited. I'm so excited too.
I grew I grew up going toKayne's Ballroom. I'm from Tulsa, so
I grew up going there. Andmy whole life's going to New Year's Eve
shows, going to see Termpike,Trubadours and Jason Boland and bands. My

(00:44):
favorite band. So it's it's areal honor to get to play it.
Headlighting myself this year with Jr.I love that, you know. We
just saw Corey Kent came right beforeChristmas last year. And he's also from
you know, from Tulsa, andhe got up on the Cans Ballroom stage
and he was like, Okay, hang on, guys, I just got
to like, just let me standhere for ten seconds. Okay, this
is like a dream. This iswhat I used to dream of in high

(01:07):
school. Did you used to dothat too, Caitlin, Oh yeah,
I have so many memories of NewYear's Eve and Kane's Ballroom was my favorite
show up, going to see theWreckers, a girl band from the two
thousands, and I can I canimagine it's going to feel how he explained
it. I love that. Sothis is your first time playing the Cane

(01:27):
Stage. No, I played itwith Turnpike. I played New Year's Eve
a few times ago, or acouple of times with Turnpike opening up.
But this will be my first coheadlining with JR. Heck, yeah,
that's amazing. Well, and you'regonna have to tell me how it holds
up, because I know this lastyear you have had a whirlwind year,
Caitlin. You played the Ryman, you played the Opry, you played Stage

(01:49):
Coach. Wow, what was yourfavorite venue that you get to play in?
Twenty twenty three. I would sayStage Coach was insane and had a
great crowd whenever we played the budLight Stage, and that was pretty unreal
to have, you know that manypeople all the way out in California come
in to see us. But Imean, I'd be silly to not say

(02:12):
it wasn't the Ryeman because the Rymanit is just such a legendary venue and
there's so much history there. AndI got to play there twice this year
with Morgan Wade and then again wouldturn Pi Tupidours and each time it just
felt like it feels like your firsttime every time you walk out there.
So I would say the Ryman forsure. Oh man, I love that.
I'm glad you've had such a greatyear. But I wanted to ask

(02:34):
you, like growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, what's the thing about Tulsa?
Like, what's the thing that youmiss about just being a kid and
being to kick back in Tulsa?Honestly, just like a kind of a
niche reference. I love the landscapingin Tulsa. I love the land.
Everybody doesn't realize how like much careTulsa puts into making it beautiful there and

(02:54):
the city parts, and then likeI don't know, just like in the
shopping centers. I just missed likeUtica wear so much and shopping there in
the Christmas time, and I justmissed like the culture of the you know,
Tulsa. I'm just the Oklahoma musicscene in general. I do miss
Tulsa quite a bit, and I'mhappy to go back there. Yeah I
can. The good news is that, yeah, almost everyone from the Tulsa

(03:16):
area misses it and says about thesame thing, like it's a big town
but it thinks of itself as asmall town. It totally is, and
just the way people treat each other, and yeah, how we take care
of the city. Like I feelthe same way. It's a gorgeous city
and every time I go back,I hardly recognize it, but I'm excited

(03:37):
to go back. Always excellent.Well you're gonna have to go check out
all the lights at Guthrie Green andall that stuff downtown. That's changed a
little bit, but yeah, you'regonna love it. Kay's ball rooms still
right there where it always was,So that's the good news. Yeah,
No, I'm excited. I thinkI want to go stop by my first
ever, open mic was just downthe street at the Hunt Club, So
I think I might make a stopover there too at some point. But

(04:00):
sudden to go back and see allthe spots exactly. You're going to have
to go hang out in the UnionHigh School parking lot for a while just
to bring back those memories. Ohyeah, maybe a snow cone shack something
like that. Oh, I'm soI'm so sad that the snow cones are
shut down for the season, butyou'll have to come back in the spring.
Now, I know. Well, hey, I know that, you

(04:24):
know, growing up and going youknow, you grow up and you think,
oh man, I really want todo this. What is the one
thing the biggest surprise you got,Caitlin when you were like, oh,
well, now I'm like I'm actuallytouring and I'm doing all this stuff.
What's the one thing you didn't thinkabout that you were like, Oh,
that really surprises me. Like goingfrom nobody to somebody that everyone knows.
I mean, this year has beena pivotal, Like I think I've worked

(04:47):
my whole I've worked doing this thelast ten years from coming up on eleven.
I think I can't really pinpoint likewhat made it happen is just the
collective years work is finally kind ofcoming together and people are starting to listen
and show up and by merch. And it's never just one thing that makes

(05:08):
it all happen. It's just forme. It's you know. I mean,
sometimes it's like a single or somethingthat pushes somebody to success. But
I feel like it's just been theyears of you know, one fan at
a time every city, just gainingtwo, three, four or five fans
at each thing, you know, and just watching it grow from there.
So I don't know, it's alot of stuff. No, I love

(05:30):
that, And I think that thereason that you gained so many fans at
each show too, is that yoursongs are all kind of therapy sessions,
right, Yeah. They are allvery from the at least on my last
album. There's very personal to me, and I've been through some hard stuff
and I feel like talking about thehard stuff, even though it is uncomfortable,

(05:51):
sometimes it is kind of the rightthing to do because I feel like
music is supposed to connect all ofus, and I think that you know,
most everybody has, you know, gone through some of the things that
I talk about, Like, youknow, someone knows somebody with that struggles
with addiction, or you know, some know somebody who's going through divorce or
domestic violence or things like that. And I know that, you know,

(06:13):
as a society, we try tostay quiet and avoid like uncomfortable conversation topics
or things that we're supposed to behush hush about. And I just think
that you shouldn't. I don't know, I just I can't keep my mouth
shut about certain things like that andwant to call things out and you know,
connect with my audience rather than justyou know, sing about happy,
happy life and you know it isa happy, great life. But I

(06:33):
think that, you know, talkingabout the real stuff is the way that
we you know, don't feel alonein the world. Yeah, and I
think New Year's Eve is the perfecttime to do that, Caitlin. You're
gonna be up on stage talking aboutchanging your life and going through the hard
stuff. So we can hit twentytwenty four running right. Yeah, get
to get you, sing you somesad songs and bring you into the new

(06:54):
year. All right. So,since you give advice to everybody all the
time, you're kind of like callyourself the mini therapist. What is your
best piece of advice. What's thepiece of advice that you seem to be
given all the time. Be moreselfish. I feel like that's that's the
best advice. I feel like wheneveryou take care of yourself first. You
know, on airlines they tell youwhen the mask drops, don't put it,

(07:15):
don't help the people around you first. Make sure you have your own
mask on first. And I thinkthat that is something that I've I've carried
with me and tried to make surethat you're good before you, you know,
extend help to others, because youcan't be your best self if you're
you know, depleted and you know, not taking care of yourself. So
take care of yourself first and bea little bit more selfish. I love

(07:38):
that. I'm going to write thatdown and hang it in the studio.
That's awesome. Well, Caitlyn,we cannot wait to see you New Year's
Eve. We've got a bunch oftickets to give away and we're going to
be there with bells on to ringin the New Year with you. Okay,
I can't wait. Me and theboys are real excited. This has
been my Tulsa with Carly Cantrell.Available now on the iHeart Radio one O
