Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don that.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome to Associate coach Chris Daily for the daily recap,
brought to you by New Face Home Improvements. Your home
is like our home, New Face. It's and U F
A C E C T dot com. Little assist to
Jackson Fisk here making sure Chris knew where to go,
and this will be our new setup. As Chris is
on the floor, we're up in our broadcast position. Nice
nice work by your team today, especially second quarter where
(00:24):
you got separation and then put the foot on the
gas to start the third. Real nice effort today.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
This is really weird because you're so far away've I'm
trying to make eye contact just so you know I'm staring. No,
it was great, you know, I think today with the
emotion of the whole, the banner and the highlight tape
and kind of having the kids being able to you know,
(00:50):
acknowledge that.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
I think we came started out a little bit shaky. Uh.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
They certainly made their share of threes, banking them in.
You know, that's not really the norm. But I thought
once we settled down, our defense was much better. We
only turned the ball over six times, so we're getting good.
You know, we're getting a lot of shots, which is good.
And then Asy I thought Asy and Sarah took over
and just made it look really easy.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Talk about the defense, I thought that was pretty good too,
especially your guard play and how they were able to
work as a unit.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, we've been working on that.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
In fact, today we went over it again, which I
think was helpful, just to we're trying to mix it
up so that you know, the opponent can't get a
read on exactly what we're doing. So we're mixing it
up between two or three different types of defenses, creating
havoc and trying to take advantage.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Of some of our guard plays. So we did a
good job with that.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Kayleie Heckle, especially all six deals of hers in the
first half fifteen for the game. And I mean she
she and KK or whether she and Ash whoever, the
guards were a lot of good double teaming on the
perimeter and she was the benefit of that.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, and I think we're only going to get better
at that.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I think the more we do it and the more
we practice it, I think we're going to get better
and you're going to see us become a smarter pressing
team so that we're not just running at people when
they can look at us. The whole thing is, if
you're going to press, you can't be a bad pressing
team because then you give up too many easy points.
So if we're going to press, I think we need
to get better at it and get smarter and really
minimize getting the ball. You know, you want to keep
(02:19):
the ball out of the middle and really just try
to make them take time off the clock. I think
at one point we did a pretty good job. Even
though we didn't steal it in some possessions, we were
able to make them use time to bring the ball
up the court, which then lessens.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
The amount of time they have to run the half
court offense.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Your post players even were in the up at the elbow.
We see Sarah Strong do it a lot. You had
the different deflections right there, coming up high on the
post two and Sarah being Sarah.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
It seems that just makes it effortless.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, that was another thing we went over today. You know,
teams that like to get the ball in have an
elbow entry. When you can take that away from them,
that causes, you know, makes them have to do something
different that they're not used to. And if you're able
to step in the passing lane.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Teams did it.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
I think Louisville did it to us the other day
because we were standing there waiting for the ball. So
we're not the only ones that do that, so we're
taking advantage of that. And certainly Sarah's got great hands
and was able to get a couple of steals, but
I thought Sarah Williams did it as well. So when
we can do that, we're just helping our own cause
and making the you know, the whole idea on the
defensive end is to make teams uncomfortable and make them
(03:24):
do things that they're not used to limit it like,
for instance, the kid Williams, she's left handed, and we
let her go left way too many times early on,
and once we were able to, you know, influence her
to her right side, she was easier to guard. I mean,
she's not easy to guard, but she was easier to
guard because we had help on that side of the ball.
So we just need to, you know, as we get
(03:46):
better and learn some different things, whether it's in our
pressure in our half court, I think we're just going
to continue to improve.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Chris, speaking of Sarah Williams, is she pressing a little
bit on offense.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, you know, those are those her layups. She's missing thing.
You know, I think she might need to be a
little bit more patient, but we watch film about you know,
she she does it. She doesn't miss those that many
in practice. So maybe it is like the game the
game situation. But and it's not easy, you know, you
(04:19):
think about it. It's not easy coming in for your
your one year and still trying to figure things out.
So I thought she came back in the second half,
didn't hang her head. I thought she did some really
good things, block some shots.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
So when our.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Offense isn't where it needs to be or where she
wants it to be or where we want it to be,
that you know, she needs just to go back to
what she's really good at as well, block shots, play
good defense, run the floor, and keep the pressure on
the other team. So I think when she settled down
and did those things, she she looked much more comfortable.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Chris, A pleasure to have you come out. I know
it's not right next to us, but we're making the
most of this, so appreciate you coming out as always,
and we'll talk.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
To you my pleasure. Thank you very much.
