Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're back with Jayden Ross. He wears number twenty three,
the junior forward six seven two O five for the
Yukon Huskies on the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show BYU
coming up. You go to the Garden twice to play
against good teams, right, Illinois and Florida. Tell me about
that experience. I worked in that building for twenty five years,
(00:20):
so I know a lot about it. But you've had
some pretty good experiences in that building, haven't you.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, that's awesome. I didn't even know that you worked there.
That's amazing, But just that says a lot about it
in itself. You know that building, you know, we look
forward to playing games in there every single year, all
the way from my freshman year. I remember playing UNC
Texas Indiana and there. Those were my first experiences. Being
able to win the Big East Tournament my freshman year
(00:46):
there was an unreal feeling. And then even last year
whinning some big games. I remember Gonzaga and playing some
other games there, winning a Big East game there. Those
were all amazing experiences. So that those are games we
definitely look forward to and and they give us a
lot of energy for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
And it's kind of amazing, isn't it that your fans
will travel. You guys bring people on the road, and
I think there's gonna be a good showing in Boston
and New York. That has to be a bit of
an advantage, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, I would say one hundred percent. And it's a
bit of a motivating factor for sure, because we feel
like we owe it to him, you know, we give something,
We give people something to look forward to, and we
want to produce for them as best as we can.
So it's amazing. I hope they'll continue to do that
and we can keep itting on for them.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
You know. And when I was in the NBA, Vinny
Johnson played for the Detroit Pistons and they used to
call him the microwave because he come off the bench
and all of a sudden he'd be doing stuff, scoring
points and turning the you know, the momentum of game around.
In some ways, I think you're similar to him because
you the way you play and the kind of things
you can do can really ignite a team. Do you
(01:54):
sense that when you come off the bench that hey,
maybe I can make it a real difference in this game?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, it's funny because that's something that me and Malachi,
we sit next to each other on the bench as
the game starts, we talk about every single game, you know,
being able to come in and just become just like
provide an extra fire for the team and just come out,
you know, shooting and just come out with so much
energy and just boost the team as best as we can.
You know, we don't want to come up coming off
the bench and have the level drop, so we come in,
(02:21):
try and make as many plays as we can, play,
play as much energy as we can. And another thing
we like to talk about a lot is the depth
of our team. So you think about how many people
we have and without no drop off, and we come in,
we play as hard as we can, and we put
more players in the game. And I think that's gonna
be one of the focal points for our team this year.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, I think that's one of the real positives for
you guys. And you don't have Jacob Burphy or you
don't have Braylan Mullins yet. So it's been it's been
good in a lot of ways for you know, people
like Silas Demroy to get lots of minutes and try
to figure out what the point guard thing is all about.
Let's talk about him for a second. The other day
he had nine assists. I was talking to Coach Hurley
about this, didn't score a lot, five points or whatever
(03:01):
it was. It's amazing how a point guard at that
level can really impact the game. Wouldn't you say?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah, it's super impressive. Especially playing here, you have to
have a really high level of IQ, and coach likes
to use the term, you know, a quarterback. The team
kind of kind of lead, So it's super impressive. The
point guard play from everybody this year has been grey
and we got to continue to grow in that way.
But I think it's something that will rely on heavily
(03:29):
this year because you know, we have such such great guards.
This year.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
The Huskies go to Boston, they take on BYU, and
then you have Arizona back in gamble. Let's talk about
playing in gamble because that place rocks. It's a small
arena compared to some of these places you're going to
be playing in. But ten thousand people in that arena,
what's that sound like for you on the court?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Ten thousand people in that arena feels more like double that.
You know, it's an amazing experience to be able to
have the student section over there filled to the top,
and you know, even everybody else is just as rowdy
as them. So I honestly, I don't hear too much
on the core outside the game, but I don't hear
it quiet, I can tell you that much. It gives
us so much energy and it's an amazing experience to
(04:13):
play in there.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
All right, you personally, now, you're shooting the ball, you're
making baskets, you're doing some stuff. Three of seven from
three uh seven of eleven from the field so far
in the ball game. In these first three games, I
should say, what are you specifically working on when you
go to practice every day? Beside all the team stuff,
what are the individual things you're focusing on.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I try to attack every single day in practice with
just the mentality that you know, first off, got to
be able to defend. Got to be one of the
best defenders on the team. So I try and stick
out in that sense, you know, try and covern some
of the better guards and just be able to work
on that and just be super aggressive. You know, I'm
a junior now, I got to be able to take
(04:56):
some responsibility on both ends of the floor and and
trust my so I know it's all there for me
to be able to do, and I just got to
keep being aggressive and stay consistent with it. I think
that's the biggest thing for me.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
All Right, I'm with you, Jade, and I appreciate your time.
Thanks so much, good luck in Boston. We'll see you
there BYU and Yukon. That's Jaden Ross and that wraps
up the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show here on lear Field.
Thanks for joining us, everybody,
