Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, is there anybody but the host of this program
anywhere in the United States of America who is picking
the Minnesota Vikings to beat the Baltimore Ravens in three hours,
a hop, skip and a jump from our current location.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I can't find anybody.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Else with either the courage or the stupidity to pick
the Purple every you know, I get a bunch of
tweets from a bunch of different media agencies that tend
too towards the end of the week, offer up, whether
you want it or not, picks from their experts, and
(00:42):
I'm serious. I may have missed one, but it appears
to me every national pundit is picking the Baltimore Ravens
to win this game.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
So am I the smartest person in the room?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Or am I kidding myself on the basis of a
very complete and thorough performance on the road at a
much needed time against the Detroit Lions. Good Morning Sunday Sermons,
one hour edition, Barrero and blakemore with you until ten
o'clock today, Bratchewan Brian cafean text line is already hopping
(01:24):
six four six eight six if you'd like to get
in on that fun and Blake Moore if you do
a little shopping around the internet, let me know if
you find any of the Nationals.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
So I'm talking about ESPN. I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Like like serious XM NFL channel, which includes the picks
of let's say occasional guest on this program and former
Vikings quarterback rich Gannon a number of others. Every place
I look, I see the symbol of the Ravens, not
the helmet or the help horns of the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
And I guess.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
It surprises me a little bit because I get it.
The Ravens have their quarterback back, and their quarterbacks all
time record against the NFC is twenty four and three.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's impressive.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
They're a different team with him.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
They're more desperate.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
They go into this game needing it from a record standpoint,
even more than the Vikings do. Although losing you know,
any home games at this point, or continuing to lose
home games if you're the Vikings a bit of a problem.
But I I just figured, Okay, there's gonna be a
few people who say, yeah, the Ravens have recovered nicely,
(02:49):
but they're not unbeatable. They earlier in the season they
were giving up thirty seven points a game. Their defense
has played better, but the game is here. The Vikings
do have some webs. They are getting healthier, even though
allegedly the Ravens have literally nobody on the injury list.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Have you found somebody?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
So the first two results I had NFL Networks Game
Day three for three picked the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Then on the game previews that they put out on YouTube. Sure,
let's see one, two, three, four, five. So out of
ten pickers, nine of them Rave picked the Ravens. Only
one deed, Jeremiah, who I don't know what that is.
I don't either, Uh picked the Vikings to win twenty
four to twenty three.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
And that's disrespectful. Yeah, they're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
They'll only win by one point, barely, barely, Yeah, grudgingly. Yeah,
it's and again, I guess I just don't see this.
It's being viewed almost as if it's like sort of
would be the upset of the century and they are
at home.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Maybe I'm the Homer.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Maybe I have become Polydanna.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Maybe I'm I.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Mean, as soon as I made the pick Friday, I
was second guessing it, but then I started getting more
stubborn about it and say.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Well, people, this is but.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I don't think these are the which Ravens team won
the Super Bowl. This isn't the Ravens defense. It was
a two thousand two whatever year it was. Yeah, yeah,
the no, the trend Dilfer. Oh, talk about the trend
Dilford defense where they want it all on defense.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
It's not the eighty five Bears. It's like what what
do wait? What am I? What am I missing here?
So we'll see. I'm very I am.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
As curious as anybody. Somebody says that ESPN commentator Peter
is it Schrader or Schrager.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I think it's proud of Schreger. He picked the purple.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
He always picks the purple, though, doesn't he doesn't He
have some Minnesota connection I don't remember. More importantly, most importantly,
the Ravens are a ninety three on Madden, which seems high.
Translate that for me, what does that mean? I don't
think that's true. You don't even think it's accurate. But yeah,
that Madden has their own overall team to do like
a rating.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
But I don't.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Oh, the Ravens are a ninety three. Yeah, the Ravens,
Yeah that's possible. Yeah, They've got a lot of talent.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
So that is ninety three high? Is that a good
one hundred? One of the highest in the league.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Bro Dan picks the Vikings because he's secretly a nine
fanatic skoll.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Maybe that's what it is. Maybe that's what it is. Dan.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Your Sunday alter ego is nine, as in on from
nine to eleven. Well, today it happens to be nine
to ten. No Gopher football Sunday today. Because the Gophers
were off, I'm guessing many of them watched their next
opponent take on in a driving rainstorm. The the Oregon
(05:39):
Ducks take on the Iowahawkeyes in a game that went
down literally to the last play of the game. Right,
A late field goal saves it for the Ducks. Found
somebody else?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Rap sheet? No, oh, rap sheet?
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Aaron Jones LISTA is questionable with an ac joints brain
expected to play today.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Oh, not a surprise, Aaron Jones.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
That's big if it's the real Aaron Jones, right, I mean,
if it's the one we saw bursts of last week.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Who had the stat? It may have been.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Our guy Alec Lewis. Yeah, an interesting stat. Vikings had
twelve plays last week that gained more than ten yards,
and Jones was responsible for a third of them. He
had four. He was very good before he got hurt,
so it is at least encouraging that he might be available.
(06:37):
Could this be the game where the cliche that we
were talking about back in the ancient days of Carson
Wentz or Carson Wentz as he's now called, might apply.
The power of completions compels you because everybody keeps telling
(06:57):
me the Ravens get no pressure. On the other hand,
I hear their secondary is excellent. So there's the conundrum,
as we say in the business, is this a game
where we might be able to do some stuff through
the air because Jmax is going to have time? Or
is that too risky based on the fact they have
(07:19):
at least two defensive backs that we could have drafted
that are all graded as among the best in the
National Football League. I also because Vikings football, I should
say Gopher football, Sunday was off this week with the
Gophers idol again. They play Friday night in Oregon against
(07:42):
the Ducks, a game, of course you'll be able to
hear in the fan. I think that's an eight o'clock
Central start rather than seven, I believe, because it's the
games being played in the West Coast, so I believe
it's an eight o'clock Central.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
We'll double check it.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Either way, it'll be on the fan, and so we'll
be on probably until six, being then preempted by the
Gopher pregame show because there were no go there was
no Gophers game, Packer Preview was allowed to sit in
the highly coveted eight to nine slot just completed.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
You were a part of that as well.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Your club is hosting the Eagles Monday night, correct, that is?
And I I have to say I admire the discipline
of the host of that program, David Sinekon, because I
assumed at some point, even though the program is called
Packer's Preview, that he would be unable to help himself
(08:43):
as a hoosier rube like me and at least say
something about what is being hailed not just by me
but by football experts as a catch worthy of being
considered the greatest with the game on the line of
all time. Don't tweet at me. That's what folks at
(09:06):
a number of places are saying. It's best catch I've
seen in a long time. That allowed Indiana to come
from behind late to knock off the Penn State Nitley Lions,
and I just assumed, even though it was Packer preview,
he wouldn't be able to help himself remarkable discipline. That
same discipline will not be revealed between nine and ten
(09:27):
o'clock we will have some hoo's your hotline. I'm no
longer going to apologize for it. It's my show and
every once in a while the host of the program
should be allowed to indulge. And if I can't indulge
now as a person who went to a school that
has have featured the losingest major college football program in
(09:49):
the entire.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Country, when the hell can I?
Speaker 1 (09:52):
And I would say at this point too, they become
a national story that is interesting, regardless of whether you
have any affiliation with that beautiful campus in Bloomington, Indiana.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
In our little pre show meeting that we have with Cynecicon,
where I say here's what I got for you think yes, yes, uh,
he said did you see the catch? First thing he said,
did you see the catch? And I was like, well,
I was around, like I saw the score. He's like,
stop everything you're doing. We're watching the catch right now.
So that's what we did.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
I said it to so many people. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
In fact, I was angry with coach Perrero because she
didn't watch it. She knew nothing about it. Now this
so happens. She has a very busy schedule. But you
have to know this, You have to know when they're
playing and you have.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
To see this catch. I still don't.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Believe he got the second foot down properly, with keeping
the first foot up in the air in a way,
or not hitting out of bounds before the.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Full first foot came in.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Going as high as he did, You're not going to
ever see a better catch in a in a National
Football League game, college game, etc.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
It's remarkable.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
So we will discuss a little bit of that before
in more detail before this program.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
He's done. Is this game live on NFL Network? Is
this another European game?
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
It is in Berlin.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
I believe Berlin Colts smarting after their first really bad
performance in a while last week, leading Atlanta thirteen to seven.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Late in the first quarter, cam Binham had a strip sack.
Didn't need him.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
We didn't need him, No, we didn't need him. Is
he still doing his dances and everything? So? Yeah, that
followed him in Indianapolis. It's a beautiful thing, is what
it is. All right, let's get our first pause in
I do have some Vikings Ravens steam to discuss, and
we'll get into a number of other controversial subjects between
now and ten o'clock.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Sunday. Sermon sprots You by J cr Rufin.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
The Baltimore Ravens have beaten three teams so far this season.
The combined record of those three opponents is nine and sixteen.
That make this an impossible game for the Vikings to win,
should it. They beat Cleveland early, they beat the Bears,
(12:30):
who do have a winning record, and have a chance
actually to go to a remarkable six and three if
they win at home today against the Giants, which probably
means they won't. And they dominated the Miami Dolphins. Now
I'll give them credit. The bad teams they've played, they've dominated.
They beat Cleveland by twenty four, they beat Miami by
twenty two, they beat the Bears by fourteen. But and
(12:55):
again they you know, some of the other losses, they
did not have their quarterback, which changes everything thing for them.
But again, I I just don't view that this has
to be set up as.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Well no, you got to pick the Ravens. You're kidding.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Were even talking about this game, which seems to be
sort of the national.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Consensus. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
That's, as they say in the business, is why they
play the game. And the Browns are a good team.
They are they're tough. Oh, they're a tough team to beat.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Yeah. Yeah, so it.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Is Carolina acquordingie. Yeah though, actually Carolina doesn't have a
horrible record. Yeah, they are above there, right, they're above
five hundred. Were they as good as the score indicated
defensively or was it more a number of self inflicted
wounds by your offense? Uh?
Speaker 3 (13:47):
The Packers did not punt a single time, yet they
scored thirteen points.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
How is that even? Is that ever happened in the
history of the league. Unexplainable? That's remarkable.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yeah, turnovers, penalties, yep, miskick SMIs kicks, and now you
lost your the soul of your offense the tight end, right,
one of them?
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, at least one of them for sure.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
This is from lynn Wood Township guy. Everyone from the Stacey,
Minnesota lynn Wood Township area commends you on the radio's
greatest radio lead in all of Twin Cities. Radio shows
from a Hero Samuel L.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Jackson.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
We also agree talk Hoosiers, Go Hoosiers, enjoy this, go
to the playoff and make some noise. Well, they got
to make the playoff. At this point, the question is
can they hold on to their by now? I think
all they have left is Wisconsin off of victory field storming.
(14:45):
Who knows. Yeah, there's been a lot of bitter But
who'd they beat? Was it Washington? Yes, Washington was ranked.
Who was ranked higher? Washington mines when Wisconsin beat him?
Or Nebraska when the Gophers beat I think Washington was
twenty three. Weren't they going into this game? I think so,
and I think Nebraska was twenty five. So I'll tell you,
(15:11):
I'm actually, if you're asking me to like compare my
level of offense, I'm still more offended by Gopher fans
who rush the field after beating Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I mean, let's face it.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
In the case of Wisconsin's it's gallows humor is what
that's about. That's like Mike, Yeah, hell yeah, we're gonna
We've had nothing this season. So no, I'm I'm I'm
not with the consensus on this. I'm if I'm going
to be offended by either of them. I'm still gonna
be more offended by what Gopher fans did. And somebody
(15:47):
said there weren't that many Wisconsin fans left or even
in the building in the first place.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
I don't know is that true. Have you seen the video?
Speaker 3 (15:52):
The student section usually starts to filter out once jump
around it's done, which is really sad.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, that is kind of sad. That's very, very true, Davy.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
So in any case, I'm not here to tell you
that Viking should go into this game over confident, but
I just I think it's being set up in a
way that doesn't mesh with reality. And as I mentioned,
maybe I will get schooled. Maybe the Ravens will just
utterly dominate this game from start to finish. I'm very
(16:26):
curious to know what our approach is going to be,
as I said offensively, and let's face it, I mean
you could argue that in the end, what matters is
what happens upfront, as we learned. Really two weeks in
a row Chargers game, we got dominated there both sides
and weren't competitive. Last week at times, we dominated the
(16:49):
Lions at least enough to end up winning the game.
Much closer game, a game that probably was closer down
the finish that it needed to be saved a bad
the coaching decision bailed out by the young quarterback JJ
McCarthy on a very good throw to wrap it up.
But that was the story. And I know a lot
(17:10):
of us have taken encouragement out of what the Vikings
did to the Lions running game. This is a very
different running game, is what everybody tells me. Right, I mean,
who's the best Lions running back?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Gibbs? Right, Gibbs is a scatback kind of a runner. Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
The guy who runs for the Baltimore Ravens is big,
is beast like basically, right, I mean, he's he's, he's
and he's playing. He's actually running quite well right now,
Henry So. And everybody tells me they when they want
to run the ball, they've got they use like three
extra offensive linemen and two tight ends. Basically, they have
(17:52):
ten people at the line of scrimm. Now I guess
it'd be nine, the quarterback and the running back. So
it's a different it feels like a different kind of
a challenge, and it is undeniable that against running backs
with some mobility the Vikings have not been very successful
at all this season. The assumption is they'll go to
some sort of a form of a spy approach, but
(18:14):
whether that works against Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, et cetera,
it's very very difficult to say.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
I think CJ. Ham is back.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
That should help for us on the offensive side in
terms of pass protection. So we'll see how it goes.
And again, the Ravens defensively have been very inconsistent in
that the defense lately has recovered nicely. They gave up
(18:50):
I think they gave up almost forty points a game
in four of their first five games, and now the
last three, what have they given up? Seventeen against the
Rams that was a loss, But you know seventeen, they
gave up sixteen to the Bears, that's thirty three, and
(19:12):
they gave up six to Miami.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
That's thirty nine.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
But again I'm going to factor in the Rams gaming lost,
and you know, the Bears, obviously their offense is improving.
They put up forty seven on the Bengals, but the
Bengals are pretty bad defensively at this point. Miami's dreadful.
Did you also see this is a sidebar. The Bears
(19:39):
probably best receiver is rome A Donsay. Do you hear
about that controversy this week? So A Donsay's dad apparently
is one of those dads where if his kid doesn't
get the ball thirty two times, he gets annoyed, and
he gets annoyed publicly, And apparently he expressed some public
(20:03):
bitterness via acts or Insta or someplace about the number
of receptions. I think A dunes they had won in
the Bengals game. But isn't there a certain tone deafness
to complaining about how many opportunities your kid had when
(20:25):
the team scored forty seven points?
Speaker 2 (20:27):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
If a team had scored like fourteen or fifteen, he go,
oh yeah, I mean that's that's it.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
You gotta target.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
But when the teams when they end up with forty
seven points, I'm gonna guess that's not the time to
make whatever point you think you're making about whether the
team Ben Johnson is properly utilizing your son's wide receiver gifts.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
I think that just goes to show how stupid making
those comments are. Yeah, because it's just ten, but they
don't see it.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
That way. No, they don't.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
They take it very very personally so, and I'm might
even accept it more last year, when you didn't have
a great offensive mind in charge of this offense, you
at least do have Ben Johnson knows how to run offense.
That doesn't mean he can't make mistakes, doesn't mean this
team is ready for the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
But very very odd.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
But that's kind of the world in which we live,
as we've learned over and over again.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Bottom of the hour pause.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Now we'll get to some texts, a lot of good
texts coming in on a number of controversial subjects. I'll
ask again, among Vikings fans, what is your level of
fear and loathing for this game?
Speaker 2 (21:30):
What is your level of confidence?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Is it pretty much the same as the national outlook
that basically says, no, this is not the Vikings game.
They're gonna lose again and they're gonna go back under
five hundred. One of my favorite national football shows. I
(21:58):
know it's one of yours as well, Brett play more
Moving the Chains A yes, Moving the Chains with Jim Miller,
former Bears quarterback, among others and Pat Kerwin. It just
popped up Week ten Picks Ravens and Vikings, Miller Baltimore, Kerwin, Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
It's never ending.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
It's could be the upset of the century, apparently, if
we find a way to win this ball game today,
and according to.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Our texts, most people agree.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Jim Wrights one emotional letdown two, Lamar three, Henry four,
Ravens by ten. Pete from Pequot, Dan Vikings lose by thirteen.
Lamar runs and throws with a vengeance. See if I
can find anybody who's gonna pick the pay attention. Dan
(22:52):
Vikings fans are feeling exactly the way we felt all season.
We have no clue what to expect. As from Lee
on Musk Guy. For me, this is the first Sunday
of football season. It feels normal to this point. The
season felt like a malaise. Eight thirty am start seven
thirty here in Boulder. It's from flim flam primetime games
(23:16):
wentz winging, wins, et cetera. No quarterback drama this week,
plus back to back noon kickoffs. Finally some routine to
my football enjoyment. Maybe that ubuntu in sense of relief
after the Lions win leaks into the locker room. Vikings
win by nine, thirty three to twenty four.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Here's one.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Yes, Aaron and Mendota Heights says Ravens overrated nine overheted
pa always elated Vikings in five.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
That's that's standing.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Can you hit the calendar calamity for me? Yes, you
can find that if on the run.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Here is here to Minnesota Sports calendar of calamity.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Do you know what happened on this day? Really not
so long ago, even though it feels like it was
only yesterday. D'Angelo Russell, then a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves,
forgot to check in, meaning that the the Timberwolves were
(24:31):
forced to defend for one possession down the court with
four defensive players. Here's the way Chris Heine wrote it.
Timberwlves have played plenty of mindless basketball to start this season,
but just when it seems their low lights have hit
the Nader, they come up with a moment like the
one in the second quarter of Wednesday's one twenty nine
(24:52):
to one to seventeen loss to the Suns. It was
a moment that wasn't overly significant to the final score,
but one that typified the frustration of watching a team
that can't or doesn't want to get out of its
own way. After falling behind by fourteen points after the
first the Wolves cut Phoenixes lead to eight, with the
Angelo Russell set to check in, except Russell didn't check
(25:15):
in before play resume. Russell appeared to think he was
entering for Jalen Noel, the free throw shooter, but instead
he was entering for Tarrian Prince, who had already made
his way to the bench. As the Sons came down
the floor, Russell remade to the scorer's table, and Phoenix
was able to hit an open three on the power play.
Phoenix's lead back to eleven, and soon enough it had
(25:36):
an eighteen point lead at halftime. The gaff passed around
social media circles within minutes. Here's the quote from dil
Classic DLO after the game. We know what happened. I mean,
that's all I got. We know what happened. I mean,
that's all I got. Sons were playing without Chris Paul
(26:01):
and Cameron Johnson, but still managed to embarrass your favorite
basketball team under those circumstances. That was in That wasn't
that long ago. Twenty twenty two was when that game
was indeed played. So that's that's an oldie, but a goodie.
I have not seen anything.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
I think. I think Dillo is in Dallas now. I think.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
I have had no idea. I don't I'm in baking.
They're struggling as a team. I don't know how he
has played during that stretch. A couple of people are
reminding us that Roman Dunze not only to add insult
to injury, regarding what his dad tweeted after the Bears
victory against the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
He dropped the pass.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
I don't know if it was a touchdown pass or not,
but he had at least one drop in that game
as well. Another reason to probably stay away from any
sort of commentary, that's for sure. Dan. This is from
John in Plaia Vista, California. Dan, what's more satisfying the
sound of a perfect swish shot in basketball, the crack
(27:08):
of a bat on a home run, or the home
crowd noise chriscending to a burst when the home team
sacks the quarterback. The Vikings will need multiple sacks on
Lamar broken Place today in order to win. Fingers and
horns are crossed. He's a tough guy to sack, but
(27:29):
it's not impossible. It has happened, and it obviously would
be helpful. The Vikings got really good pressure. I thought
on golf it is funny, I mean the way we
look at that game. I mean, because I agreed, I
viewed it as a really good game for the defense.
The defense really did set the tone for every other
part of that team, and yet they still gave up
(27:50):
twenty four. It wasn't like they pitched a shot out
or anything close to it, but it still felt like
there were stretches in the game where they did a
great job frustrating what the Lions when they're going, they're
just free and loose and everything just seems to come
easy to them.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
And it did not come easy for them, that least
after that first drive.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
And then they did pick up again a little bit late,
and god knows what might have happened if they gotten
the ball back, if the Vikings had not been able
to convert. But nevertheless, a certainly a good defensive performance.
Mike from clok CA says Vikings by six. Our defense
is clicking. Henry will commit two fumbles today they could use.
(28:38):
They had a big takeaway last week.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
On a fumble.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Buyer running back. Henry has been known to put cough
the ball up. That would be very, very helpful. So
now it's turning. Now we got nothing but people picking
the vikings at this point. So Kevin from Elk River
Daniel Jackson catch versus Nebraska last year was a better catch,
(29:02):
much less on the line, but a better catch.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
That's he's hit on. Why that's irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
When we start for me evaluating catches, it's the context
of the catch as well.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
The game is over, not literally because I.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Think Indana would have had one more play, but it's
the final seconds of a season that needs you to
score to prevent well, to take away the possibility of
an undefeated season. Number two ranked, I don't think. I
don't think the Gophers were they second ranked last year
(29:40):
against Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I don't know. I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
But what I'm saying is when people start talking, well, well, no,
there's been better catches. No, it's it's the catch and
the context. It's the combination of both that to me,
we're playing a semantical game. The greatest catch there has
to be for me some.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Piece of it.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
That is, when the catch was made and in the
circumstances yesterday for Indiana, it was going to be the
difference between winning and losing, between maintaining an undefeated season
and that undefeated season obviously ending and Omar Cooper Junior.
If you haven't seen it, you have to see it,
(30:24):
and the best way to see it is the slow
motion version of it, because I was convinced it was
going to be overturned when I first saw it and
I saw what looked like the is that the back judge,
I don't know which reference official that is. He's watching
it like a hawk, and he very calmly raised his
hands like touchdown.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I'm going, oh, no, no, that can't be.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
And then even the first time I saw it on replay,
I said, no, I think his first foot was out,
already touched out. And even if that didn't happen, I
think the heel of his second foot grazed that back line,
and it ultimately neither proved to be true. His one
(31:09):
foot he leg he kept up. Somehow in the second
one he managed to turn it in a way that
that there was never a time where that foot was
out of bounds. And by the way, on that drive,
Charlie Becker, who hadn't even really been much of a receiver,
this year, had a great game. He made a catch
on the left sidelines that was also very highlight worthy.
(31:32):
Now I did see the head coach signetti. He had
apparently felt he had to embellish the drive. He said,
Indiana after a sack, had we're back, was backed up
to its own two yard line. Indiana never gotten washed
that far back, although there was a sack on first down,
so it was a second to seventeen play.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
I will tell you this too. I'm not a big
tank guy.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
You know. I don't like tanking. I don't like the
concept of it. There's no it's just it's a bad feeling.
I'd be tempted to tank for that quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
He is going to be.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
He's gonna be a he's got a chance to be
a big time professional quarterback. Mendoza he is.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
I mean, we're.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Talking about kahones the size of church bells. On that drive,
after he gets sacked early, he just thrown an interception.
And the way he started zinging the ball around to
get them back in position to steal that game, I
can see why. Even before that game a lot of
the scouts were saying he was gonna be the first
or second quarterback chosen, big strapping lad, big guy.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Not a great runner, but got a little.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Bit of ability to to to run occasionally. But he
can he can wing the ball. So we'll see as
we go forward. But I think a catch. You can
always pick a catch in the first quarter and say, well,
that was technically the best catch I ever saw. But
for me, it has to be directly connected to the circumstances, right.
(33:04):
I mean this when the stakes are higher in the
game itself, or the circumstances in the game late in
the game, than to me, it changes pretty much everything.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Give me your wild update.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
We we we beat the Islanders, right, okay, Well the
Islanders aren't very good, are they. They're okay, they're okay,
they're above five hundred. Oh okay, I'm sorry. I probably
not giving proper credit there. I'm still smarting from the
previous game, where once again it was we deserve better.
I heard that nonsense again, even though even though a
(33:38):
key turnover is what was the cost of the game
winning goal?
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Correct, right, But we didn't have Zucarello, wouldn't have euros,
we didn't have and who look great and neither one
of the goals I thought were his fault. Interesting, So
I think there might be the start of a little
run or not, but it could be. I mean, the
reason I'm more excited about that is because of the
additions not being sarcastic, and.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
At least it gives you, it gives you some sign
of Okay, let's see now with with with the with
with you know, putting the gang back together.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Yeah, it might fit. I'm back to well new editions
are you know? It's not the Twins new editions where
you're getting back and that's a good trade, but it
is an addition, top line, and they connected immediate and
Caprice off that.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
I mean, that's his there's a connection there. Correct, That's
undis one of the prettiest goals I've ever seen. That's nice.
Are we going to have Kyle Potter on this week?
Regarding the canceled flights? Sounds like things are unraveling. Yes,
we even talked about it doing it late last week
and then ultimately did why did you say guardsy to connect? Yeah, yeah,
(34:41):
well he's he's he's got a good vibe with with him.
So yeah, we'll definitely try to add that early in
the week. The way he bent his knee on the
lead foot to keep it in the air and drag
the backfoot while making a spectacular grab is remarkable. That's
from Jeremy in h in Richfield. Yeah, that's the part
(35:02):
that I still now. Here's my question, what's the rule
in college football? In other words, I thought on the play,
the defensive back who was there.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Didn't do a very good.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Job of just trying to shove him his entire body out.
So if you get shoved in the old days of
the NFL, it could be ruled you didn't give the
receiver a chance to come down and bounds. Does anybody
know whether that exists? That rule exists in college I
don't think it does, So my point is if it doesn't,
the mistake to me was you got to be really
(35:38):
aggressive because he's got the ball. You're not going to
be called for PI at that point. You got to
do everything your play there is, forget making a play
on the ball. Just shove him so he has less
of a chance to get that foot because I don't
think he could have gotten the foot down unless I'm
missing something I don't believe.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
So I think that is the case.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
If you would have shoved him out, I don't think
there would have been any flag for that. I think
that's out of bounds. And that's that the Wild.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Get talked about before the Loons. What happened to your
Western Conference Finals participation requirements?
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Uh? You want to give us a Loons update?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
So they had a really rousing win yesterday. It was
game three of their series. They go down two goals
within eight minutes and think, here we go, first round
next to again for a Minnesota team. They score to
make it one to two, but then they get a
red card to the forty first minute, so they're down
a man the rest of the game. Before even the
first half is over, they score again to tie it.
(36:30):
They score again and take the lead. Seattle ties at
three to three. They go into a shootout which goes
ten rounds before the Loons finally win. Move on, it's
the next round of playoffs in Allen, it's a fun game.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yeah yeah, but you still say it with a little
bit of that condescension. Well, I just don't want to
because you think it's a cute little league.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Well if I overstay the Loons welcome, then I can
feel the text coming in.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Going, we don't care about Oh is that true. Oh yeah,
but it was good. It was a great game though.
Thirty one nine Ravens right, six point two? Guy, The
win against the Lions was fool's gold.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, I am. I am ready for this game. I
am very curious. And the beauty of it is, well,
the I likes watching all the NFC North games. So
the good news is your team's Monday Night. Unfortunately, the
Bears play at the same time. Right, the Bears are
taking on the Giants, and that's our next That's the
Vikings next opponent, right, I think we've got the Bears here. Yep,
next week as well. I just hope that the team
(37:30):
has showed up in Detroit shows up this week too.
If that happens, Vikings willing. Well, that's always the question
for so many teams other than the really best, the
really good teams that you tend to show up every week,
that's the unknown. And we did say, as much as
we celebrated the victory over the Lions, the turnabout from
the week before the fact that your season, in my opinion,
(37:55):
was going to be over effectively over if you lose
to the Lions, and so you get away to win
and to open the door to the possibility of getting
back in this thing. But it only matters if you
do something with the opportunity, and to that extent, that
means you have to start putting together back to back
to back performances, right Otherwise you're gonna play five hundred
(38:19):
ball this entire season, right, and that's just not going
to do any good. So the Vikings are kind of
in the same boat right now as the Gophers were
after they beat Nebraska thoroughly. What are you going to
do with it? Well, what you should do with it
is go to Iowa and at least play a competitive game.
They didn't come close to playing a competitive game, and
(38:41):
we're happy for what they did last week or you know,
a week ago, that to me is not enough to
redeem the non competitive no show against Iowa to go
with the no show against Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
So Vikings in the same position.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
And if they lose today, they squander at least a
lot of what they seem to establish yesterday, or then
they just come off, as I said, this cute little
club that might surprise you to the good one week,
and they might turn around and lose the next two
and then win one or whatever. And I think we
after the Bears, We've got that meaty two game road
trip to Green Bay and Seattle. Now, I don't view
(39:23):
the Packers as unbeatable at this point, but it's going
to be that also, I would think would be has
to be considered a challenging game there because I think
the Packers tend to play down to their competition and
are less likely to do that against an Eagles team
or against the Vikings. And then we you know, Seattle
is Seattle. We have a heart, we have one in Seattle.
(39:44):
But Seattle is I think a surprisingly sneaky team out
of the NFC that a lot of us were not paying.
You know, all that much attention to Blake Moore is
leaving out that the final two pedalies were the goal.
Our goalie scored the final shot to seal the victory.
That makes it particularly special.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Yeah, yeah, that is true that that has happened before
in shootouts, but yeah, that is it was special and
Saint Clair made his and the other guy Sky is
over the crossboard.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
The Indiana coach reminds me of Brian Kelly has a
bit of jackass to him with dealing with the media
if it when it goes bad on the field.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
It will be interesting for him. It's interesting.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
I don't think the interviews I've seen he's that jack assy.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
With the uh.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
I'm I'm never going to impugne somebody's integery or motives
by comparing him to Brian Kelly.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
I mean, Brian.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Kelly is about as jack assy as you can get,
and I think Signetty seems to be having more fun
with it he does. I mean after the game, he
basically said, we were lucky to win the damn game.
The game is pretty much over, but we found you know,
obviously you find a way to get it done.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
But I know I I don't. I would never.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Saddle that comparison on pretty much any coach, but Signetti included.
I mean, again, when when Signetti is that it's most honest,
He'll say, last year, guess what when we got to
the most important games, we didn't play well. I mean,
we did not compete, we did not handle you know,
(41:24):
that level of rarefied air. He's talking about the Ohio
of State game and then the postseason game against Notre Dame.
So no, Brian Kelly's not capable. I don't think of
admitting all that much. So it looks to me like
and I can't blame Vikings fans for approaching this game
(41:46):
with some measure of trepidation because this year there has
been really no consistency to to speak of. The important
step I thought they took last week is they find
beat a good team, and they beat a team, and
maybe that team was, you know, coming off the buy,
(42:06):
not quite ready. Maybe they I don't think the Lions
played their best football, but they beat them. They went
there and they beat them, and up till now, they
hadn't really beaten any good quarterbacks, quite frankly, and that
was what we said about this defense. Well, if you
want me to believe this is really a good defense
this year, then it can't get riddled by quarterbacks who
don't seem to be all that flustered by the number
(42:29):
of looks that bleep bflow offers. And that's the advantage
and why that game I think was important. But we'll
see if they can build on it today. A pregame
show is indeed coming up. All right, that's enough Loon's
talk until hell Freeze is over. So you're right right
out to you as you said it. Gophers by twelve
over the Ducks this Friday Night, pj's greatest victory, worthy
(42:52):
of a ten year extension and seventy five million dollars buyout.
You never know, so I'm gonna say thanks for watching,
thank you for listening. We'll be back with a bumper
to bumper vikings, talking points, and more, beginning at three
o'clock on Monday,
