Speaker 1 (00:02):
It's a triple decker Montage Friday, a triple decker, not one,
not two, but three montages in one.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
It's like search two minutes in one.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
It's like sometimes if you like a nut, sometimes you don't.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
You're either an I'm enjoy.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Guy or a mounds and the montage Master correct, the
montage Master is back. Finally, finally decided to get off
your lazy button do something that was my favorite line.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Many years ago.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
My wife's husband, my brother in law, got laid off
from his job. Like on a Tuesday Wednesday morning, my
sister listening, when are you getting get off your lazy ass?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
He got a job?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I always love that one.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Been out to work about it, but not even not
even not even a half a day. Just that's so funny.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
A lot of people are saying that was a great montage.
Tend to be well done. Links win in dramatic fashion.
Wild get off to a great start to the National
Hockey League season. I think there are a lot of
people that a lot of people are are excited and
delighted that the Minnesota's winds are at least and we've
got to remind people they're exploring.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
The possibility of selling the club.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
They haven't said absolutely, lock Stock and Barrel it's sold,
but we're going to explore that possibility.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
And I do believe they will eventually sell it. But
you never know. They could always go, you.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Know, couldn't find a couldn't find a buyer at the
right price, couldn't find a local guy.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
So we're going to keep it for another year.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
So I don't know exactly where it's going, but that's
what our triple decker montage was about. I also see
tennab when I look at the brade on Brian Kavan
text line at six four six eight six, because the
show was out of studio today, so there was nobody
manning the brade on Brian Kvan text line I think
was Falness.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
And Russo Yeah, from Tria.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
From Tria near the fuse box, and a lot of people,
a lot of people, a lot of people on the
brade on Brian k voicing their displeasure with the decision
to really, first of all, where do we start pointing
the fingers?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
How about Pa? Where is he? All the vikings are
on the buy so I'll take time off too.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
The links are it It's I'm not gonna say it's
quite as significant as miracle on ice. But this was
a team that predicted to finish seventh or eighth in
the league when the season started, and.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
A Minnesota team in the final season. Yea's pretty rare.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, and he's decided to take time off really okay?
And then so okay, we've got to we've got to
have a fill in show.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
So instead of.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Getting Marnie Gellner and maybe Lea b Olsen Sloan Martin
and when the LEPs, what do we do? We go
to hockey, guys. One hockey game has been played. That's
on Chad Abbott, right, And where's he today?
Speaker 2 (02:54):
He's not even the here. No, who makes the decisions
around this place.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
You're gonna get plenty of link's talk here because we're
proud of these gals, and we're Minnesota through and through.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
We're going to talk a lot of Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Who did they beat the Liberty that's liberty, liberty, liberty, liberty.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
They beat the New York Liberty, and they did it
in dramatic fashion. They were getting destroyed early. I don't
you know, I read the account fish Rap Factory West Side.
Were we down like nineteen two or nineteen eight. The
Liberty got off to a big start. They were a
bigger team than we are too, and then we came
back ferociously and.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
We had it was an epic comeback.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
As a matter of fact, I'm being told it might
be one of the greatest comebacks in WNBA history. When
you talk about finals appearances, did you see what else
tend to be? You and I we were we were
beside ourselves as to why we couldn't understand why why
is the w NBA Finals not seven games? It was
announced that night that and I think we have that
kind of influence because did you see the story see
(03:57):
that next year they're going to a seven game WNBA
fan nice?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, I think they.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
They know where they're going to get links coverage, and
I'm sure they were listening.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
The league was listening. I saved the story.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I think they're going man two more games of Caitlin
Clark in the finals next year. Really great for our
TV ratings?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Well yeah, that and just be it's and that too,
but also just because why it's that, like we talked
about yesterday, but you know, at Wimbledon and at the
US Open and the French Open, the women only play
the best out of three sets, and the men play
five well, because they're bigger and stronger and they don't
get as fatigued.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I mean, that's sexist, is what it is.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, And here's the story right here, Timneby, you.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
And I think women should be treated equally.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Exactly, Dateline, New York. This is an Associated Press story.
The WNBA will expand its finals next year to a
best of seven format, the league announced Thursday, the same
day we talked about it. The league currently has a
best of five semi finals and finals in this playoff
of the best of three first round. Commissioner Kathy Engelbert
Kathy Inglebert Humperdink. Actually, this we'll give our fans a
(05:03):
championship series format that they are accustomed to seeing in
other sports. Englebert Humperdink said the better seeded teams will
host the first, second, fifth, and seventh games first, second, fifth,
and seventh. The league also will be changing the opening
round to give the lower seeded team at least one
home game. Higher seeded team will host game one and
three if necessary. Currently, the first round has been has
(05:26):
the first two games at the better seeded team.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
All four of the first round series or sweeps.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
This year's The commissioner said that with the league using
charter flights all season, including the playoffs, it makes it
easier to travel back and forth between cities.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, so I like that that they're changing to that.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Speaking of the best to three, and in Major League Baseball,
that first round in the wildcard round all played at
one park, I like that. Actually that really makes I know,
if you're the visiting team, you know, it's a tough
pill to swallow.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
If you're gonna win, you gotta win two games on
the road.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
But it was done this year on a couple of occasions,
if not all of them, I think, And it makes
having a better record more important. Right, you're both wildcard clubs,
but then you don't want to or no, it's it's a.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
How does it work?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Because dude, just one team gets a bye, right, two
teams do? Yeah, that's right, two teams get about one
division winner plays, yes, least the lowest record, right, So.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
You want those the wild card round and you want
to make sure you have a better record.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
So you played at the bitter end, so.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
And much after one hundred and sixty two games, there
should be an advantage to get the new team that
has about I think so and so.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
It's we're proud of the Minnesota Links and hey, we're
delighted the wild one. I mean, you know, and we're
not suggesting they shouldn't have some coverage here. But we're
the audio home, if you notice we call it that, Yes,
for the audio home where the audio home of the
Minnesota Links. So I think we should pump it up
around here is what we should do. I'll talk with
(07:01):
the front office about our decisions made today.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
I've programmed five rate.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
All right, I programmed three radio station, but five sounds
like more than four. I know how the business works. Tenny,
you want to put a grand in somebody's hand? Try

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Do a couple of segments with her, and then Audra
Martin and Carly Zucker join us at one thirty for
a little program password yeah. And then four I didn't
tell you this got tend to be former International Boxing
Federation super middleweight champion Caleb True actually be on the phone.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Golden's going to talk about a.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Maybe the biggest fight of the year, a light heavyweight
fight that's coming up on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
We'll talk more about that. We'll do We'll give that
a couple.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Of monsus jabs.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
It will give that a quick few minutes with Kay.
I've always good to reconnect with with Caleb and see.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
What's on his mind.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Anyways, I got a couple of quarterback stories tend Toby.
First one would be, uh, the kid that's getting a
lot of attention right now. A lot of people are
paying attention to Jade and Daniels of the Washington Commanders.
That Commander's Club is off to a four and one start,
and much of it in large part due to the
(08:46):
play of Jade and Daniels, and I saw a quote
from him.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Well, you know, it's it's only natural, Tenneby.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
When when when when a rookie quarterback gets off to
a nice start, they start making comparisons. He looks like
he's the next Pat Mahomes, that acts Johnny Uanidas.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
He looks a lot like Tom Brady. To me, they
always made these comparisons.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
He was asked about it, and he said the quote
was something to this effective. You know, at the end
of the day, I don't really want to be I
just want to be the next Jayden Daniels. You know,
I just want to be Jade Daniels. I don't need
to be compared to people. It's kind of it, you know.
It's kind of a good answer. I mean you could
always know it was. I'm flattered and I feel like
I have pattered myself. It's just I like that he
(09:24):
just didn't care about that stuff. I just want to
be known as Jayden Daniels. And he's off to a
great start, and the kid seems to have a good
head on his shoulders.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
The other is Tennebe.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
You and I were the driving force in getting the
WNBA to go from a five game WNBA Championship Series
to seven games.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
We talked about it yesterday. We were.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
We were, we were I would even say a ghast
at the whole idea. We couldn't believe that they didn't
do seven games. Four hours later they make the announcement
that they're going to go to a seven game series.
I think we have that kind of influence after after,
I think the Pole adds.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
One of the one of the main reasons.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
They decided to sell was because for thirty years on
this one thousand, this hundred thousand watts soapbox, I've been
I've been begging for the for the Pole Ads to
do something, and finally they did.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
They're selling the club.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
So we have a lot of power and a lot
of influence in this town, and we even have a
lot of power influence nationally when it comes to to
an award that's given by the Associated Press.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
It was a couple of weeks ago where people were
starting to.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Go, oh, Sam Donald's the front runner for the Comeback
Player of the Year, and you and I talked about
that and I said, I don't know what the criteria
for Comeback Player of the Year it is, but to
me and I think people thought I was doing a
wet blanket Wednesday. As a matter of fact, I think
we talked about it on a Wednesday that I was
wet blanketing the whole idea of of Sam Donald being
(11:01):
the Comeback Player of the Year, because I said, what
did he really come back from? He was third overall
draftic didn't work well in New York, moved to another club,
didn't work well. They're backed up. Now he's playing again.
How can you come back from a place you've never been?
And the story broke today headline Sam Donald is ineligible
for NFL's Comeback Player of the Award. The new guidelines
(11:24):
mean Donald can't win the award even though he's clearly
making an incredible comeback with the Vikings. He's not making
an incredible comeback with the Vikings. He hasn't come back
from anything. He was a really good college player. He
hasn't come And here's all the story this is. It's
in a number of different places, but I'm going with
the tiny Joe Nelson, our local guy, a tiny Joe,
we used to call him. Sam Donald's arguably the best
(11:46):
individual story in the NFL right now, but one thing
going against him is a recent change that disqualifies him from.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Winning the NFL Comeback Player of Theyear Award.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
The Associated Press announced back in June the Spirit of
the AP Comeback Player of the Year Awards to honor
a player who has demonstrated resilience in the face of
adversity by overcoming illness, physical injury, or other circumstances that
led him to miss playing time the previous season.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
And that's what I've always felt it should be. That's
what I always thought it was.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
And it said, you know, Darnald isn't coming back from illness,
injury or anything, and prevented him from playing. He was
simply the number two quarterback behind Rock Perty in San
Francisco last season. The award was previously without guidelines, leaving
the door open for any player who had a terrific
season after a miserable season to qualify. That says it's
too bad for Darnald's tied for saying that, blah blah
blah blah blah. And you've got to remember too, where
we're a long way from the end of the season.
(12:38):
I mean, it's it's quite possible. I don't think it's
going to happen, but it's quite possible. You know, I
don't want to make the comparison I'm going to between
past or Not and Darnald. After pastor On's first two weeks,
there were those that wanted to give him a five year,
twenty million dollars a year contract.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
And is he in the league now?
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Is he backing up somewhere? He's backing up in San Franike,
he's backing up, but san fran So. Sam Darnold's had
a terrific storry. Matter of fact, he was the NFC
Offensive Player of the Month in the month of September.
I would expect that play to continue. But let's face it,
against against the Jets, he wasn't very sharp in that
second half, and he certainly wasn't very sharp against.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Green Bay in the second half. So it's not as
though he's this.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
He's he's become this, this player that has has no issues.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
You know that he has. He has no no flaws.
But I I like that ap change that up.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
The comeback player of the Year is supposed to be
you've come back for some real adversary, not just because
he didn't play very well.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Or do you not agree with that game?
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I agree? Yeah, yeah, you haven't been good for X
amount of years and now you have a good year.
Is that really a comeback?
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Now he's certainly and idiot, what you'd like, any adversity
you face was on your own accord.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
That's correct.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Now, what he is, what he is eligible for is
most Valuable Player award?
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Right if you are eligible for that?
Speaker 1 (14:00):
And could you say, if you were going to do
a five week most Valuable Player would.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
It be Sam Donald. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
I'm not paying his close attention to all the other
teams and players in the league. I'm sure there's other
guys that are having I.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Mean the Daniels kids might and Daniels over Yeah, he
certainly could. He would probably be Rookie of the Year,
but he could certainly be MVP too, so and I
would think that would be the award that a.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Guy like Sam Darnald would rather have.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Anyways, if your choice was Comeback Player of the Year MVP,
I think MVP because that means, you know, not just
didn't come back from somewhere, you were the most valuable
player in the league. And there's a lot of guys
in the league. Over fifteen hundred guys play pro football.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
So pretty good.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Maybe come back coach of the Year as b flow
after all he went through in Miami. Could be Yeah,
lawsuits with the NFL and haw to just be like
a linebacker coach in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah no.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Now he's basically almost maybe the best defensive coordinator in football.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
This test said, why did Flacco beat out Damar Hamlin
who died on the field last season. I think that's
why they changed the rules back in June. That's what
they're saying, because that's what this story says. It says, uh,
the spirit of the a becoming of the AP announced
in June, So I think maybe that was maybe that
was is the do I have the right word?
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Impetus?
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Is that the right word? I m p E t
u S great word as a great word. A lot
of people like the word impetus. I think it was
the impetus probably for them saying, you know, yeah, Flacco
was basically he wasn't he did he get he wasn't one.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
He was out of the league.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
He was out of the league. So that is you
could say that's a comeback impetus.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
Impetus Does that mean that you can't you can't have kids?
Speaker 3 (15:46):
A moving force in Paul stimulus or the momentum of
a moving body, especially with reference to the cause of motion.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
I think that was would work. Yeah, that's what the
cause of motion to get.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Them to change the way they they awarded the bit
was because of that.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
But you know what, we're not gonna let any always
disqualified for award.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
That's okay, MVP, MVP, we're dying. Might MVP Donald zad.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Well, that's not even the award working turn about. Yeah,
that's exactly big game or Sam Donald. That's not really
an award though. That's a trophy shared by everybody bowl right.
That is true, true, But what MVP of the league
I think is a much more gratifying, rewarding.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Award. Let's pause, come back a little disdat lat uh
here in the common end program in the.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Fantallico, inflation vacation is back on KFA N. We have
nine chances free to win one thousand dollars every weekday.
That's every hour from nine am until five pm. Jaja
the keywords and learn more. Head to cafean dot com.
(17:03):
Inflation Vacation is powered by two men in a jump truck.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
It's always controversial here on the common Ban program, and
I'm about to say something controversial.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
That's interesting.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
This text message came in and says, I understand the
award rule change, and I have no issues. But he's
coming back from a bunch of bad seasons. But he
never had a good season. So in other words, I've
never had a good show. Let's just say for some
reason I have a great show to day, Am I
comeback talk show host of the Year. No, I'm not
coming back from having had a great show, then a
bunch of bad ones, then.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
A great one.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
You had to have been really good at some time,
then falling off the face here and come back.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
He was great in college. That's fine.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
That has nothing to do a lot of people have
been great. A lot of people have.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Been great in college and never never, never did it
in the pros.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
That being said, if there is, let's say that the
vikings against the Colts a couple of years ago, right
when they were down thirty three to nothing, they call
that a comeback. Yeah, they weren't never great at any
point in the first half. With the coming back from
same with the Lynks, Yeah, I get I got there.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I guess he got me there, but you have to
I guess there's different different definitions of.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
What if they just call it like we didn't see
that coming award.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Maybe that's what it should be. Maybe that's what it
should be. I just think there are different definitions. I
guess have come back. This is a callback. Earlier today,
I criticized the program director of this radio station. I'm
not afraid to do that, you know me, Tnaby, everybody
else kind of tiptoes. There are people here that are
every man except me is terrified a little ball that's
(18:35):
been established, and everybody's afraid of the corner's office and
I'm not. And I got this text message from Chad Abbott.
My workload with all these teams and ego driven hosts
is getting to be too much. Probably time I take
you up on your offer to help with programming. Your
wasted experience has been a large miss and that's my fault.
Look forward to your help starting next week. Up.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
I can't quite it.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
I was gonna announce this yesterday, but because of the
announcement with the twins, how.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Did they phrase that again? Exploring exploring the exploring, selling
the team? Yeah, but how the.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Way they it was a intent to explore selling the team.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Intent to explore selling the team.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
I had a major announcement I was going to make,
but I guess I can do it now. And I'm
about to say something controversy that's interesting. I've been here
for part time nineteen ninety three, full time ninety four,
so thirty years. I've been a full time employee here
at KFAN. Over those years, tend to Bee, I've I've
(19:49):
offered what I call free show to the employees here
at the radio station, where I'll come in and you know,
for instance, I'll visit various salespeople throughout the WORL and
I'll stop over to the coroner's office in Little Bee's
office and Greg Swedberg and others including you, and and.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Offer a little.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Hilarity you know, my my, my comedic stylings of hilarity
and high jinks right to kind of it's always new
fresh material to this and it's it's it's it's almost
like having a court jester.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Could you look up court.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Jester and give us the definition of what a court
gester is. I think most people know, but I'd like
to hear if they have an actual definition.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
I think a court jester was hired by the king
and the queen.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
A person who performs silly acts to amuse the people
in the courts of European kings and queens during the
medieval period.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
So replace my name and then put salespeople in there.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Read it again, person who performs silly acts to the
common man, who performed silly acts to amuse the people
he works with.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Yeah right, I'm a court jester. It's called free show
because I'm not paid for that. I'm paid for what
I do noon to three. There's an old saying in
the comedy business, no money, no funny. Free show has
now come doing it. That doesn't mean I'm not still
(21:23):
going to offer up high brow entertainment.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
I'm going to start charging for free show Patreon subscription.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Well yeah so, and I'm wondering.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You know, there was a time where I had offered
up for twenty four ninety five, I would talk to
you personally on the phone, yea for five minutes, if
you'll remember. Still one of the greatest ads Dave, Dave
Allen and I ever put together. I don't mind saying
so myself and I don't And it was done in
the last twenty years. That was twenty four for me
(22:00):
to talk to Rubes, you know, one on one on
my phone to your phone on my way home from work.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
For five minutes. I'm thinking.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
For my co workers, my colleagues, for my friends here
at the radio station. I'm not going to charge quite
that much. I'm thinking though, like ten to be. I'll
give you ten minutes at your cube for ten dollars
venmo check cash. I'll do trade. I mean for you,
maybe a sleeve of golf balls and you can afford
(22:31):
your own golf balls. Would you be willing ten to
be you know, and you know I understand, you know,
I'd be fifty dollars a week for you.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Maybe just want me one day's enough? Maybe on a
maybe on.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
A Monday Monday, maybe on a on a on a
mail iten Monday, or a tank at Tuesday, or a
wet blanket Wednesday?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Would you be willing? I mean, is that something you
think you might be willing to do? To give you
ten dollars to.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Come and offer up some some chuckles for you, you.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Know, you know, you know, in other words, you know,
try to improve your mood, you know, you know, you know,
bring a smile to your.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Face, so to speak. I think you'd have to pay
me ten dollars to listen to you for ten minutes. Really,
you're going about it the wrong way. We should be
getting paid for having to listen to your free show.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Do you know how many people out there are mesmerized
by my trump? Some of the sales get one. I
think one sales gal doesn't particularly like it. She wants
me to start doing kamala.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
I can't do.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
That's a hard voice to do.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Yeah, I don't even know how to do that. But
there are people out there.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
They a lot of people thinking, and so they like that,
And I think I should get paid for that instead
of just giving it for free free. I mean, Bessie,
give baby's got to live, right. I put two kids
through college. I could use the extra added income, and
I take us a bargain at ten dollars for ten minutes.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
What was the twenty four ninety five before? Do you remember?
I have the ad by the way.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Play it here it is.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Have you ever wanted to talk to the common man
one on one off air? Well, now, thanks to new
cell phone technology, you can.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
That's right now.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
For only twenty four ninety five you can talk to
the common man for five minutes, either on his drive
into the show or his drive home. Imagine you talking
to the common man about his golf game, shot by shot.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Thirteen to fourteenth pull, I'm about to hit a knock down.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Are you still there?
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Yeah, I'm about to hit this knocked out punch cut
bay pro.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Suddenly a big gut talks sports, sports, sports, or has
been restored by boy.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
The only question to be answered is will they be
wearing Honolulu blue or.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
Just having recite your favorite common man saying.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Sure a couple of thirteen fourteen. You're either on something
you're wrong on something.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Finally, you can talk to the common man privately, one
on one.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
But it's not free, free, free.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
It's only twenty four ninety five and it's filling up
fast because Woodber is only a couple thirteen fourteen miles away.
Back call Tennebee and get in line today to talk
to the common man.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I'm waiting for your call.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Do you have that list of people I'm supposed to
call you? Because you've been taking the night some numbers apparently,
what is what? Dave Allen says, I haven't had a
lot of those yet, you know, I.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Guess the price is probably it's a bit much.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to make
a buck off yourself. Right, everybody's in it for a dollar,
So why would I quit now?
Speaker 2 (26:00):
With that offer?
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Is still a valid to just get a hold of
ten to B and if you would like to.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Good luck to you on your efforts to charge for
free show around here.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah, I think you'd be surprised. I think people appreciate
the free show. I get a lot of chuckles. This
is almost I love Randball. Michael rand writes for Fisher
Rep Factory West Side. He wrote a piece today, did
(26:33):
Links pull off greatest comeback win in Minnesota sports history?
Speaker 2 (26:36):
There's a stiff competition.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
There's also compelling evidence to suggest that the Links, but
the Links at Thursday night in Game one of the
WNB Finals, qualifies as the greatest comeback.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Victory in Minnesota sports history.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Then he's got some kind of a chart and a graph.
I don't need charts and graphs. That's that sabermetrics analytics.
He might be right, and maybe all that sabermetrics, and
you could certainly even say just forget about sabermetrics analytics.
Charts and grafts. You could just say I think it
was the greatest comeback. It's important because it is. It's
(27:07):
in the finals, right, I mean the championships on the line.
Get back, right, But you just mentioned to comeback moments ago.
The greatest comeback in NFL history was engineered by the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Two years ago?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Was that just two years ago when we were trailing
the Colts? Was it thirty one nothing or some thirty?
Speaker 2 (27:27):
You know? And again was as much at stake?
Speaker 1 (27:30):
No, it's a regular season game, and I don't have
and I don't know he maybe he lists, yeah, the minnieap,
the Minnesota Miracle. He lists yep, Timberwls Nuggets Game seven,
and last year's Sure Western Conference Finals Denver led fifty
(27:52):
eight thirty eight early in the second half. Apparently the
Wild a trio of wild Game seven comebacks over the
years that I guess I'm not real familiar with. Eighty
seven World Series Game six, he lists Twins were down
three to two in the series, five to two entering
the bottom of the fifth winner go home kind of
(28:12):
a series. So there are a lot of candidates for it.
I'm going to suggest Sam Darnold has the greatest comeback.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
In the history of Minnesota sports. That's what I'm going
to suggest.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
It's fun talk. I love the I love the concept
that he came up with the piece. And again I
didn't read. I just kind of skimmed it here. So
I he writes in terms of the most improbable sustain
comeback with the highest stakes, the Links on Thursday just
might have grabbed hold of the top spot in Minnesota
pro sports history. You know, now I'm gonna sound sexist.
(28:46):
I think there was more at stake in the eighty
seven World Series. Down five to two, you know, Game six,
winner go home, and because this is game one and
it's only a five game series, and you the other
club has the home court advantage. But what what it was,
it was it was dire for the Twins at that
(29:09):
point with the score of the way it was down
three games to do, five to two in the fifth,
and then for Pucket to do what he did with
the catch and the home run.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
To me, that's well, that was ninety one night. That's
I'm sorry, ninety one.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
To me, that well, they were down, they were down
five to ninety one, were they They're talking about eighty seven?
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Oh, I'm sorry it was eighty seven. You're right, eighty seven.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Yeah, Twins were down three two in the series five
to entering the bottom of the fifth. Yeah, that's right
because the game six, but the Game six comeback. You
could even put in there for the for the Twins
because were we trailing in that game.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Or I don't know if they were trailing. I don't
remember that. But obviously the pocket home run was it
was tight en.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, that's right, it was tight experience.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
So the World Series Game six the same thing, though.
You're you're your backs against eliminations. It's elimination game. It's
got check time. And as we say, the Vikings game
is historic just because in all of every game ever
played in the history of the National Football League, nobody's
come back from a greater deficit.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
So you could make that argument that that is and.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Uh and I'd forgotten about Game six eighty seven down
five too, and to me, that's it was even like
last night, I watched them ball last night. Felt bad
for the rod the Yankees advance.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Royals are done, so that was unfortunate.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Tigers now and the Guardians they play I think tomorrow
that tomorrow who's playing tonight. Is that Dodgers tonight, and.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Then yeah, just Padres and Dodgers yet.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Tonight, and then Guardians Tigers on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
The playoffs.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
You know, and Timmy, I think we've talked, But I
haven't been a big baseball guy for a long time
other than one the Twins make post season. I've watched
last year, watched all their games. I've been watching some
postseason baseball. It's been pretty electrifying. Been some some great
moments in in in most games, including last night, we
had some uh uh some really dramatic, some dramatic performances
(31:22):
and some uh comings and goings. But yeah, so when
it when it comes to the greatest comeback, I mean,
last night's was big for the for the for the Links,
no doubt.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
But I well, even if you just take out the comeback,
it was just an epic game. Period. Yes, Now, I
I was watching the Wild game, and so I tuned
over during the second intermission of Wild Blue Jackets, and
at that point I think the Links were down nine,
whether there three four or five minutes left in the game,
and the last four or five minutes of that regulation,
(31:52):
and then in overtime, I watched all of it, and
I mean not only just the amount of stops the
Links needed to have on the defense, defensive side, including
the FISA Collier. Now I know why she was defensive
MVP of the of the Year, Player of the Year
because she was just basically pulling off into the Kemy
Matumba the last three four minutes. But the three and
(32:14):
the foul when you're down three by Courtney Williams just
absolutely cold blooded. You had Stuart for the for the
Liberty had two free throws to win the game. They
were down one and the Links were going to come back.
At that point. She hits the first one, missed the
second one, so just the drama of that, and then
it comes down to the wire in overtime and Collier
hits that big shot to put them up too late.
(32:35):
It was you had the controversy over whether the ball
went off the Liberty gals foot. They ended up not
calling it, but that would have probably sealed the game
for the Links, and it kept the game going. It
was just it was back and forth and great plays
being made and tons of drama.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Hey, Common I'm one of your best female fans. I
love she has a capital as your Trump impression it
would pay money to hear you do more. I've got
a phone number. I think I'll reach out to her.
I don't know if I could. I don't know if
I could do ten minutes of Trump. It guess kind
(33:13):
of hard on your voice. After a while, a lot
of people are saying that you can do ten minutes.
It's kind of hard on your voice. So I don't
know if I could do it, but I'll give it
a try.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
So I will get back to you and call you
and and we'll take care of that.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Here's another text message that raises oh no, before that.
Two things. First of all, I guess actually you could
say the greatest comeback in Minnesota sports history was Seattle
twenty eight, Green Bay twenty two, twenty fourteen NFC championship.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Oh boy, there's no doubt that's the greatest comeback in Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Back Minnesota sports history. That was So what word would
you use to describe at ten tob Yes, that's the
word I would use to describe it.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
I feel like every year on the anniversary of that,
we should just play those highlights because we still have them.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Let's do that. We won't let those disappear.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
He also was it just gonna.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Say, Oh, I was gonna also, I tweeted you, I
texted you. But today is the anniversary of the fat
Cats get slaughtered. Yeah, and now that we're five and
oh again going into the bye week.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Yeah, I saw somebody else bring that up too. You're right, yeah,
that it was the fat cats get slaughtered where they
hung some stuffed kitty cats and it kind of back
from slats.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah, it kind of. It kind of went sideways on us.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
One of those one of my favorite sports sports sports
is your whole life. Just sports topics has arisen, Tenna
Bee and I'm talking about the golfers just had you're
speaking of comebacks.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
They just beat you, right. They were down seventeen to ten.
They scored fourteen points in the.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Fourth quarter, including a gutsy fourth and Inch's call from
the from the goal line that when they originally ran
the play, the officials rule he didn't get in, which
would have meant the ball would go back to USC
giving them an opportunity to take the ball down the
field and try to get into field goal range, win
(35:25):
a game or whatever the case may be, or at
least send it to overtime. What was dramatic comeback. You know,
they stormed the field, blah blah blah. Now I've been
seeing things like, well they come out flat when they
go to against us LA. Well, because seriously, I know
you and I both feel the same way. It's just like, well, no,
you just you know, you would hope that the whole
(35:52):
coming on flat thing is just it's foreign to me anyways,
because every game is different, and this coach even preaches that,
you know, not only are we one to oh in
the in the USC season, he goes with, but I
think it's gotten to the point where one and oh
on first and ten on the first drive of the game.
You know, it's that's how it's gotten too. That's what
that's what Fleck preaches. So if his message is getting
(36:16):
through to the players, I don't think they should have
any trouble getting excited. A matter of fact, to me
would be like, you know a lot of people don't
remember Fleck before the game said we're the best two
three team in the country, and a lot of people
rolled their eyes, shrugged their shoulders and shook their head
and said, well, first of all, there's no way to
determine that. Intwo is that really what you want to
(36:36):
hang your hat. We're the best losing team in the country.
And but they went out and beat a ranked team.
Whether you believe USC was over ranked or not, they
beat a ranked team. And so when you lost the
Iowa game in the manner in which you did and
which you were head at the half, and then we're.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Totally outclassed in the second half.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
The comeback against Michigan that fell just short, and then
you have the comeback against USC and you win. To me,
or now you're starting to build something for this season.
You're up to three and three.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Now you beat a ranked team.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Michigan was ranked at the time, might still be and
you had a chance to win that game.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
To me, it would be just the opposite. You don't
come off from now you're pumped up and excited. Now
let's go UCLA. Isn't very isn't uc.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Like one in four?
Speaker 1 (37:20):
I don't I one in four, two and three. I
don't think they have a winning record. I don't believe.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Now you get to play at the Rose Bowl, which
is cool.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
I know it's not the Rose Bowl, it's not the
Run for the Roses, but still you're you're playing in
a legendary stadium and you've just come off a big
upset victory. If if I don't even believe in coming
out flags, they can get out played.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
I don't think teams go, oh we weren't ready to play,
or wonder why that was. I don't believe in that.
That that the whole concept.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yeah, they've lost four in a row, but they've beaten
They've lost the three ranked teams in the process LSU Oregon,
Penn States. I mean you're good teams.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Yeah, they're losing a good teams.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
That being said, Indiana whipped up on them forty two
thirteen and they beat Hawaii in the opener.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Yeah, that's the Hawaii is always tenacious.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
So in UCLA, was the team that Fleck was flirting
with the summer was Yeah, well.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
That's what we're told. Was he really? I don't know.
Sometimes you know that tend to be.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
That would be like you're saying a couple of radio
stations are making a run at me. I can't say
who they are, but they're making a run, or you
can even say their names.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
We don't know that for a fact.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
You have a lot of that's gonna run.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Yes, just so we don't keep that in mind.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
So I don't think that should be a problem with
the with the Minnesota if they lose just because they
got outplayed or job by the officials, whichever one is
going to be, well, take a break. Feminine touched the
program here on a on a Friday. Li'll be joins
us next here on the Fan
